Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, I don't really want to play my upbeat intro
- 0:08Speaker 1: tonight because it's not an incredibly great night. It's very
- 0:13Speaker 1: confusing with the highs and lows. We're arrive by Wall
- 0:16Speaker 1: Street the Dow Jones fifty thousand points with the backdrop
- 0:21Speaker 1: of a missing person that's the mother of a national
- 0:25Speaker 1: TV host. It's a very weird time this week and
- 0:30Speaker 1: to end the week. But if you go to my
- 0:32Speaker 1: Instagram Alex g nyc one, I took this picture of
- 0:37Speaker 1: Hope Week on the Today Show Plaza. As you know,
- 0:40Speaker 1: every year the Yankees have Today Hope Week, and a
- 0:44Speaker 1: couple of years ago I got to go to the
- 0:46Speaker 1: Plaza and see the Yankees hang out there. Well, I
- 0:49Speaker 1: got the Hope signature, you know, logo with the Today
- 0:53Speaker 1: Show in the background. I thought, well, I didn't really
- 0:55Speaker 1: get a picture of Savannah. But we need to preach
- 0:58Speaker 1: hope here. We need to know, pray and have hope
- 1:01Speaker 1: that this woman has found and maybe Savannah is sort
- 1:07Speaker 1: of an impetus for whoever captured this eighty four year old,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean, the captured eighty four year old. Just this
- 1:14Speaker 1: whole thing is mind boggling and it's relevant to today
- 1:17Speaker 1: because she was supposed to be in Milan today. And
- 1:21Speaker 1: the backdrop also is that tonight's the start of the
- 1:23Speaker 1: Winter Olympics in Milan and Savannah is supposed to be there.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And my theory and I'm not I don't think I'm
- 1:31Speaker 1: supposed to have one, but I'll throw my hat in
- 1:34Speaker 1: the ring on this. Someone either has it in for
- 1:37Speaker 1: Savannah Guthrie or is jealous that she gets to go
- 1:41Speaker 1: to Milan, but they don't. Something doesn't add up. The
- 1:45Speaker 1: week before she's supposed to go and be this star
- 1:49Speaker 1: on an international stage, her mom gets captured and abducted.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It doesn't add up to this being random. Okay, it
- 2:00Speaker 1: just and where I'm in my tim foiler here, But nonetheless,
- 2:04Speaker 1: we have to pray and we have to, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: hopefully get answers here. Maybe she'll be found before too
- 2:13Speaker 1: long and hopefully she's alive. But it's such a weird week.
- 2:21Speaker 1: I mean, we all had our highs and lows this week,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and I want to tell you the big high was
- 2:27Speaker 1: that I had a very nice person find my phone
- 2:30Speaker 1: on the train on Wednesday. And this guy Ben who
- 2:35Speaker 1: found my definitely gets the one Leg Up Award, as
- 2:38Speaker 1: is Ryan Pagano, as is Joni Pelzer for this coordination
- 2:42Speaker 1: to get my phone which I left on the LR.
- 2:44Speaker 1: So there we all had highs this week. But I
- 2:46Speaker 1: think at the end of the week we have to
- 2:49Speaker 1: be reflective, and that reflection should be about putting all
- 2:54Speaker 1: our energy into getting this woman back into the gu
- 2:56Speaker 1: three home. Now I understand they released that video and
- 3:00Speaker 1: it's a very touching video. It bizarrely quotes the Shining,
- 3:05Speaker 1: which I don't really understand why, but it's a touching video.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And I never realized that she is a woman of faith,
- 3:15Speaker 1: Savannah Guthrie. But I've always liked her work on NBC.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure you have too, and every year
- 3:21Speaker 1: she's had the parade, So of course, even if you
- 3:25Speaker 1: didn't like her views, you gotta hope and be in
- 3:29Speaker 1: the trenches with her, if not physically spiritually, that they
- 3:32Speaker 1: find her mom. And it's a headline that I didn't
- 3:38Speaker 1: really want to dominate with today, and it dominates the
- 3:44Speaker 1: whole headlines. But then today I come into the station
- 3:48Speaker 1: and I see this that city council speaker Julie Mennon,
- 3:54Speaker 1: who always kicks butt, is urging city Hall to release
- 4:01Speaker 1: all of the city documents on post nine to eleven
- 4:05Speaker 1: air quality, as Thomas Tracy of The Daily News rights,
- 4:08Speaker 1: City Council speaker Julie Mennon on Thursday demanded that every
- 4:11Speaker 1: single file the city has regarding toxin swirling above ground
- 4:16Speaker 1: zero following nine to eleven. He made public following a
- 4:20Speaker 1: bombshell discovery of an internal city memo that proved the
- 4:25Speaker 1: city feared the dangers just weeked after her terror attacks.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Menon said, my mother died from a nine to eleven
- 4:32Speaker 1: related cancer, and she actually worked just blocks away from
- 4:39Speaker 1: the World Trade Center. After the attacks, the city told
- 4:44Speaker 1: us to put wet clothes on our closs on our windows,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and they echo of former New Jersey Governor Chrissy Whitman said.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Another said that the air was safe, but city officials,
- 4:59Speaker 1: just weeks after nine eleven, we're bracing for potential lawsuits
- 5:02Speaker 1: over health advisories that caused them. We're about twenty five
- 5:06Speaker 1: years ago this year the tragedy happened, and city Hall
- 5:14Speaker 1: has held on to documents that I believe, I believe
- 5:22Speaker 1: we should know. More than one hundred and forty thousand
- 5:26Speaker 1: first responders and survivors are now enrolled in the US
- 5:30Speaker 1: Center for Disease Control's World Trade Center Health Program, which
- 5:33Speaker 1: provides nine to eleven related healthcare benefits, and about eighty
- 5:37Speaker 1: one thousand of them have a certified condition linked to
- 5:41Speaker 1: the toxins above ground zero. As we know, on the
- 5:47Speaker 1: day of the Tarr attacks, three hundred and forty three
- 5:48Speaker 1: FDNY members three forty three died in the collapse of
- 5:52Speaker 1: the Twin Towers, and additional four hundred forty two twenty
- 5:55Speaker 1: four members have died of nine eleven related illnesses. Survivor
- 6:00Speaker 1: advocates and union officials, Thomas Tracy writes, are calling on
- 6:04Speaker 1: Mayor mum Donni to release all the documents, something as
- 6:08Speaker 1: predecessors dating back to Mayor Juliani has failed to do,
- 6:15Speaker 1: claiming that the releasing of the information could lead the lawsuits.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So if the city knew about these toxins and didn't
- 6:25Speaker 1: want to warn the public, that is a big concern,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and I do want to know about this. This DROGA
- 6:36Speaker 1: Act was created and fought for by those like John
- 6:40Speaker 1: Stewart and former Congressman Peter King because of these toxins
- 6:48Speaker 1: and the nine to eleven related illnesses are a real thing.
- 6:57Speaker 1: But Wednesday of this week a bombshell memo saying city officials,
- 7:06Speaker 1: weeks after nine to eleven, we're bracing for potential lawsuits
- 7:10Speaker 1: over health advisories that cause individuals to return to the
- 7:14Speaker 1: area to soon to soon air quality studies conducted by
- 7:26Speaker 1: the city more than twenty years ago could be imperative
- 7:28Speaker 1: to learning more about the cancers that survivors are facing.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Advocates say, so, this is not an ending story. The recovery,
- 7:41Speaker 1: the healing, the trauma of nine to eleven will forever
- 7:45Speaker 1: be with us emotionally and continually physically. But if we
- 7:50Speaker 1: can get these documents released then, and by the way,
- 7:58Speaker 1: one hundred thousand people have designed to not sue over
- 8:02Speaker 1: their illnesses, that's interesting. But if we can get information
- 8:08Speaker 1: and release these documents, this trove of information of what
- 8:16Speaker 1: they knew when, maybe, just maybe a sort of healing
- 8:23Speaker 1: could begin twenty five years later for all of us,
- 8:27Speaker 1: not just those really affected at ground zero, but all
- 8:31Speaker 1: our family members, our loved ones, our friends. People as
- 8:36Speaker 1: a city deserve to know, just like we deserve to
- 8:41Speaker 1: know what the status of Savannah Guthrie's mom is right now.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Nancy Guthrie, eighty four years old, abducted from her own home,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and there's still no proof of life that I can tell,
- 9:03Speaker 1: that any of us could tell. And at the same time,
- 9:08Speaker 1: this city has a council speaker rightfully fighting for the
- 9:14Speaker 1: proof that the city knew, the city knew that people
- 9:27Speaker 1: were returning to the area too soon. And we know
- 9:31Speaker 1: that if we know that, healing can begin twenty five
- 9:36Speaker 1: years later in certain aspects. And that's all I think
- 9:41Speaker 1: we're asking for us to heal like Joseph for nine
- 9:45Speaker 1: to eleven families, asking for the Saudis to be held accountable.
- 9:52Speaker 1: That would bring healing to some of those families. Of course,
- 9:56Speaker 1: we all want our loved ones here today, but if
- 10:01Speaker 1: we can get justice for them through these documents, and
- 10:06Speaker 1: justice for those who currently are fighting nine eleven illnesses
- 10:09Speaker 1: through these documents, then we can have one leg up
- 10:13Speaker 1: over the trauma, the horror of nine to eleven. That's
- 10:17Speaker 1: all we've been asking to have for twenty five years.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Isn't it to have one leg up over this trauma,
- 10:25Speaker 1: to never forget, never repeat, but also heal, but also heal.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And Council Speaker men is asking for that healing process
- 10:37Speaker 1: to begin. When mayors or Ammdani and I love that boldness,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and I hope you do too, here on the Walling
