- 3:15Speaker 2: and for the kingdom. So right now we're breaking down
- 3:20Speaker 2: verse by verse. Romans Chapter seven. Romans Chapter seven and
- 3:27Speaker 2: what we're doing is we're looking into a powerful teaching
- 3:30Speaker 2: by the Apostle Paul. It's a powerful teaching on the
- 3:35Speaker 2: law on the flesh and our need for deliverance through
- 3:42Speaker 2: Christ Jesus. Let me repeat that, it's about the law
- 3:47Speaker 2: and it's about dealing with our flesh, and it is
- 3:52Speaker 2: a powerful teaching on our Lord Jesus. Christ is how
- 4:00Speaker 2: he is able to touch us, to heal us and
- 4:07Speaker 2: to deliver us and to set us free. And with that,
- 4:13Speaker 2: let's go before our Father in prayer. Heavenly Father, we
- 4:20Speaker 2: thank you for this time once again that you've given
- 4:23Speaker 2: us together on this podcast, on this broadcast. Oh Lord,
- 4:27Speaker 2: we give it to you for your glory, your grace,
- 4:30Speaker 2: and your mercy. We ask Father God, that you will
- 4:33Speaker 2: help us to change, to transform. Oh God, it's only
- 4:37Speaker 2: by you, it's only by your word. It's only by
- 4:40Speaker 2: understanding of God. Thank you for the justification. God, Thank
- 4:44Speaker 2: you for the righteousness that you've accounted to our account.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Thank you for all that you did, Oh God, to
- 4:50Speaker 2: win us back to yourself. Oh God, we are completely yours.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Oh God, help us so God to get the victory
- 4:58Speaker 2: through the spirit as we understand your word and as
- 5:02Speaker 2: we understand your plan of salvation in Jesus' name, Amen
- 5:09Speaker 2: and a'men. All right, hallelujah. So make sure you grab
- 5:15Speaker 2: your bibles, your no pads, and your highlighters as we
- 5:22Speaker 2: go through this together. All right, all right, let me
- 5:30Speaker 2: get my place here. Let's go to Romans, and we're
- 5:34Speaker 2: gonna start off in chapter one Romans. Chapter one is
- 5:39Speaker 2: where we're gonna start off at, and it says, or
- 5:48Speaker 2: do you not know? And of course it's a continuation
- 5:52Speaker 2: from chapter six. As we're talking about the law, as
- 5:57Speaker 2: we're breaking it down. The law is only there to
- 6:02Speaker 2: show us our guilt. That's the best we can get
- 6:06Speaker 2: out of the law. There's a lot of people out
- 6:09Speaker 2: there who still think that they can fulfill the law.
- 6:13Speaker 2: They think that they can obtain righteousness by observing the
- 6:20Speaker 2: law and keeping the law. But the law itself, as
- 6:27Speaker 2: we're gonna see in the scripture condemns Us, no one
- 6:31Speaker 2: is able to keep the law. That's the whole point.
- 6:36Speaker 2: That's why we need deliverance. So Paul is making his
- 6:40Speaker 2: argument and he's still talking about the law from chapter
- 6:44Speaker 2: six over here to chapter seven, and it says, or
- 6:48Speaker 2: do you not know brethren. For I speak to those
- 6:51Speaker 2: who know the law, that the law has dominion over
- 6:57Speaker 2: a man as long as he lives. Now let's stop
- 7:02Speaker 2: there for a second. Now, Paul begins by addressing those
- 7:07Speaker 2: who understand the law. Of course, we know that it's
- 7:12Speaker 2: our Jewish brothers and sister sisters. The law was given
- 7:16Speaker 2: to the Jews, and it says the law rules a
- 7:21Speaker 2: person as long as they are alive. Now, death will
- 7:26Speaker 2: break the bond between the person in the law. Now
- 7:32Speaker 2: this will set the foundation for what Paul is teaching.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Right here, The law's grip ends at death. For believers,
- 7:41Speaker 2: we die with Christ right, so we're no longer under
- 7:47Speaker 2: the law, or should I say, we are no longer
- 7:51Speaker 2: under the condemnation of the law, because all the law
- 7:57Speaker 2: can do is condemned. Let's go verse two and three.
- 8:03Speaker 2: For the woman who has a husband is bound by
- 8:07Speaker 2: the law of her husband as long as he is alive.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But if the husband dies, she is released from the
- 8:16Speaker 2: law of her husband. So then if while her husband lives,
- 8:21Speaker 2: she marries another man, she will be called in adulteress.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But if her husband dies, she is free from the law,
- 8:32Speaker 2: so that she is no she is no adulteress though
- 8:37Speaker 2: she has married another man. Okay, well, let's break this
- 8:43Speaker 2: down real quick. Now, Paul uses marriage as an illustration.
- 8:52Speaker 2: He's not necessarily trying to teach on marriage at this point,
- 8:57Speaker 2: but he's using it as an ill frustration to that
- 9:03Speaker 2: death will release us from the legal obligations of the law,
- 9:08Speaker 2: just like a legal obligation in marriage. Or let's say,
- 9:13Speaker 2: if you are a criminal and you are on death row,
- 9:18Speaker 2: you are a sentenced and you're condemned to death. You
- 9:22Speaker 2: did something that is that heinous of a crime that
- 9:26Speaker 2: you were found guilty of. Now, just before your death sentence,
- 9:35Speaker 2: while the officers and the guards they come to get
- 9:38Speaker 2: you from your cell, and then all of a sudden
- 9:41Speaker 2: they find you and you're dead, right, you decided to
- 9:46Speaker 2: end it yourself before they get to you. They're not
- 9:52Speaker 2: going to carry out the sentence. Why, because you're dead.
- 9:56Speaker 2: They're not gonna put you in an electure chair. They're
- 9:59Speaker 2: not gonna you or whatever you know method of that
- 10:04Speaker 2: they'll use right fulfill the to carry out this death sentence.
- 10:10Speaker 2: You're already dead, so the charges against you are dropped. Now,
- 10:17Speaker 2: this is the same thing here. We are dead in Christ.
- 10:22Speaker 2: So the law has no charge against us. Spiritually, death
- 10:27Speaker 2: to the law frees us so that we could be
- 10:32Speaker 2: free to belong to Christ. Now, Paul's example reminds us
- 10:38Speaker 2: we're not cheating on the law. Right, we're not cheating
- 10:42Speaker 2: on the law. At one point we were married to
- 10:45Speaker 2: the law. But now that we're dead to the law,
- 10:48Speaker 2: we died in Christ. We're not cheating on the law. Now,
- 10:54Speaker 2: through the death of Christ, we are at least and
- 10:57Speaker 2: we are free to join ourselves with him. Amen. That
- 11:02Speaker 2: is good news of the New Testament. Amen. Amen. H
- 11:18Speaker 2: all right, let's jump to verse five and six. Amen.
- 11:31Speaker 2: For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions
- 11:36Speaker 2: which were arose by the law, we're at work in
- 11:41Speaker 2: our members to bear fruit to death. But now we
- 11:47Speaker 2: have been delivered from the law, having died to what
- 11:52Speaker 2: we were held by, so that we should serve in
- 11:56Speaker 2: the newness of the spirit, not in the oldness of
- 12:02Speaker 2: the letter. All right, now, let's break this down. Now,
- 12:07Speaker 2: it's very important to understand this, and I keep bringing
- 12:15Speaker 2: this up. The simple fact that there's a cult out there.
- 12:21Speaker 2: There's Christian a cult. There's new cults that pop up
- 12:27Speaker 2: almost every other day, and their go to is the law.
- 12:34Speaker 2: They love to teach the law. They love to preach
- 12:36Speaker 2: the law, the law of Moses, and they accuse us
- 12:41Speaker 2: of not abiding by the law, like we're doing something
- 12:46Speaker 2: against God. But we see this in the Book of Romans.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Paul is one of my heroes. Do not let anyone
- 12:58Speaker 2: try to talk down about Paul or attack Paul the apostle.
- 13:04Speaker 2: God used them mightily. God use them to write two
- 13:09Speaker 2: thirds of the New Testament. Paul was God's choice. And
- 13:14Speaker 2: Paul breaks it down that it's not about the law,
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's about the spirit. Now, see, the law exposes sin,
- 13:25Speaker 2: but it couldn't free us. It couldn't help us. The
- 13:28Speaker 2: law did nothing to help us or to give us
- 13:34Speaker 2: a strength to overcome. It's only through Christ we serve
- 13:40Speaker 2: God in newness of the Spirit. It's about the spirit,
- 13:45Speaker 2: not the law. We have been divorced or we've been
- 13:49Speaker 2: freed from the law when Christ died on the cross.
- 13:53Speaker 2: For us, it's not the oldness of the letter. This
- 13:58Speaker 2: is spirit versus the flesh. That's the battle now that
- 14:03Speaker 2: we face. We face the spirit versus the flesh. The
- 14:10Speaker 2: law shows us sin, but it can't heal us. Only
- 14:15Speaker 2: the spirit can transform our lives. Amen. Let me say
- 14:20Speaker 2: that again. Only in the spirit can our lives be transformed.
- 14:26Speaker 2: That's why we don't observe the law. It's a new covenant,
- 14:31Speaker 2: it's a new relationship. It's a relationship through God's spirit,
- 14:38Speaker 2: and that's the only way we get the power to
- 14:42Speaker 2: overcome our flesh. All right, Let's jump over to verse seven,
- 14:48Speaker 2: and we're gonna go through seven and twelve. And it says,
- 14:52Speaker 2: what shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not.
- 14:59Speaker 2: The law is perfect, the law is good, It is
- 15:01Speaker 2: not sin. On the contrary, I would not have known
- 15:06Speaker 2: sin except through the law. The law defines sin. The
- 15:12Speaker 2: law allows us to know that sin is alive in us.
- 15:20Speaker 2: For I would not have known coveteousness unless the law
- 15:24Speaker 2: has said you shall not covet it. But sin taken
- 15:31Speaker 2: opportunity by the commandment produced in me all manner of
- 15:36Speaker 2: evil desires. Let me say that again. But sin taken
- 15:42Speaker 2: opportunity by the commandment, by the law produced in me
- 15:48Speaker 2: all manner of evil desires. What is that sin? We
- 15:52Speaker 2: all know that once we are given a rule, we
- 15:56Speaker 2: want to break that rule. We see that sign that
- 15:58Speaker 2: says do not step on the grass, what do we
- 16:02Speaker 2: want to do. We want to do that very thing
- 16:04Speaker 2: we want to step on the grass. That is our
- 16:07Speaker 2: rebellious nature that we eve inherited from Adam. When we're
- 16:12Speaker 2: told not to do something that all of a sudden
- 16:15Speaker 2: we find out ways to do it and we think
- 16:18Speaker 2: is better and fun. Right, how many times we snuck
- 16:22Speaker 2: out at night from our parents to go to a
- 16:27Speaker 2: party they told us not to go to. We think
- 16:30Speaker 2: where it's the best time of the world. But no,
- 16:33Speaker 2: that's a sinful, rebellious nature. For apart from the law,
- 16:40Speaker 2: sin was dead. I was alive once without the law.
- 16:45Speaker 2: But when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.
- 16:50Speaker 2: In the commandment, which was to bring life, I found
- 16:55Speaker 2: to bring death. For sin taken occasion by the commandment,
- 17:01Speaker 2: deceived me and by it killed me. Therefore, the law
- 17:07Speaker 2: is holy and the commandment holy and just and good.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Now Paul is breaking it down, and he's letting us
- 17:16Speaker 2: know that the law is actually spiritual. Right, It's not
- 17:24Speaker 2: about our word observance. Now Paul shares the inner struggle
- 17:34Speaker 2: with us, heymen, And Paul also says that the law
- 17:45Speaker 2: is not sin. The law is not sin, is not
- 17:51Speaker 2: a bad thing. The law is perfect, but the law
- 17:54Speaker 2: will expose sin. Sin uses the law to provoke rebellion
- 18:02Speaker 2: within us. The law is holy, but it cannot give
- 18:10Speaker 2: us life. Think of it like a mirror. The law
- 18:18Speaker 2: will show us dirt on our face, but it can't
- 18:24Speaker 2: wash it off. That's all it does. Paul said himself,
- 18:30Speaker 2: like he didn't even know what co coveteousness was until
- 18:35Speaker 2: the law said thou shalt not covet and that came
- 18:39Speaker 2: to his consciousness, and then he died. He realized he
- 18:43Speaker 2: was a sitter. And I like the Ministry of Rake
- 18:47Speaker 2: Comfort and uh he was working with Kirk Cameron for
- 18:51Speaker 2: a while. They teamed up, and Uh, I actually had
- 18:56Speaker 2: a chance to meet Kirk Cameron. He was an eye
- 19:00Speaker 2: actor from It Is Enough and he was one of
- 19:03Speaker 2: the actors and left behind some of those series. So
- 19:08Speaker 2: Ray Comforted Kirk Camberon came to Las Vegas, and this
- 19:12Speaker 2: is when I was under Pastor Mike Bumgart and he
- 19:16Speaker 2: had the connection to meet with them. And so what
- 19:19Speaker 2: they would do they would go down to the strip
- 19:21Speaker 2: and they would film. They had a show where they
- 19:26Speaker 2: would film. It's like a TV show. I believe they
- 19:28Speaker 2: still have it. It's called thing. It's called the way
- 19:33Speaker 2: of the Master from not mistaken. But what he does
- 19:37Speaker 2: he uses the law to witness, and so what he'll
- 19:41Speaker 2: do and this is a good practice that we should
- 19:45Speaker 2: use in our time of witnessing. They'll go to people
- 19:48Speaker 2: and say, hey, do you think when you die that
- 19:54Speaker 2: you will go to heaven? Or do you think you're
- 19:57Speaker 2: good enough to go to heaven? In the majority howny
- 20:00Speaker 2: of people surprisingly will say yes, they think they're good enough.
- 20:08Speaker 2: As much as we were we were in this Book
- 20:10Speaker 2: of Romans, right, as much as we read how God
- 20:13Speaker 2: views us and how we need deliverance and all that.
- 20:17Speaker 2: A lot of people are ignorant of that. They're ignorant
- 20:20Speaker 2: of how we truly look towards God outside of Christ.
- 20:25Speaker 2: And so they'll say yes. And then he says, okay,
- 20:29Speaker 2: well let's take the good test. Now. If you pass
- 20:34Speaker 2: this test, you get to walk freely into heaven. But
- 20:38Speaker 2: if you fail this test, then you will go to Hell. See,
- 20:42Speaker 2: we got to share the good news as well as
- 20:45Speaker 2: the bad news. If people don't hear about Hell, they're
- 20:48Speaker 2: not gonna know that they need to avoid going to
- 20:51Speaker 2: this place, horrible place. As I say, I've said in
- 20:56Speaker 2: this podcast sometimes it's good to look up some of
- 20:59Speaker 2: these near experiences and here descriptive words of some of
- 21:05Speaker 2: these people who've been there, and God has used them,
- 21:08Speaker 2: brought them out of the pits, and it's using their
- 21:11Speaker 2: stories and testimonies to warn and it's like as a
- 21:16Speaker 2: fresh revival of the fear of God. Right, So yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 2: you got to speak about hell as well as says
- 21:24Speaker 2: you know, if you fail this test, this is where
- 21:28Speaker 2: you're going. And so as they agree to take this test,
- 21:41Speaker 2: they'll say, you know what, Okay, I'll take this test.
- 21:45Speaker 2: I think I'm a good person. So what you do
- 21:48Speaker 2: is you use the law, just like Jesus used the
- 21:52Speaker 2: law to the rich young ruler who asks them, Master,
- 21:57Speaker 2: how can I good?
- 21:58Speaker 3: Master?
- 21:58Speaker 2: How can I receive each life? And Jesus tells him,
- 22:02Speaker 2: why do you call me good? There's only one good,
- 22:04Speaker 2: which is God. And he says, well, keep the law.
- 22:08Speaker 2: And a young man said, I kept it, and he says, okay,
- 22:11Speaker 2: so all your possessions give to the poor and come
- 22:15Speaker 2: follow me. And this young man was sorrowful and walked away.
- 22:20Speaker 2: For Jesus spoke to his heart. He knew his heart
- 22:23Speaker 2: condition and so it's all about the heart condition, right,
- 22:30Speaker 2: because he was in love with his riches. He was
- 22:33Speaker 2: not willing to part from them. Hopefully he got it right, right,
- 22:39Speaker 2: because I was like, over two thousand years ago, like
- 22:41Speaker 2: what good are those riches?
- 22:42Speaker 3: Now?
- 22:43Speaker 2: In eternity? We gotta think also in line with eternity,
- 22:49Speaker 2: how this lifestyle that I'm living is it gonna be
- 22:55Speaker 2: worth being punished for all eternity? And so okay, back
- 23:02Speaker 2: to the good test. So now you have this person
- 23:05Speaker 2: you're saying taking a good tests and you use the law.
- 23:07Speaker 2: He said, okay, Well, in the two Commandments, the Bible
- 23:14Speaker 2: says doubt shall not steal. But then you ask a
- 23:18Speaker 2: question before you bring the long and actually you supposed
- 23:20Speaker 2: to trying to remember it before you even bring the
- 23:23Speaker 2: LNG in. You ask them the questions. You ask them,
- 23:25Speaker 2: have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever stolen a
- 23:28Speaker 2: piece of bubblegum when you were five years old? And
- 23:32Speaker 2: most likely everyone will say yeah, like yeah, we've all
- 23:36Speaker 2: taken something that doesn't belong to us. Then you'll go
- 23:40Speaker 2: and say, well, have you ever told a lie? And
- 23:45Speaker 2: you know we'll all say yeah, you know, we know
- 23:47Speaker 2: we've lied in our past. We've lied before some of us.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Some of us are probably still told a lie today, right,
- 23:57Speaker 2: And then you take them to the third one and says,
- 23:59Speaker 2: have you ever looked lustfully at a man or a woman?
- 24:04Speaker 2: And of course we've all looked, We've all had that
- 24:08Speaker 2: wondering eye. Right. And then if the person is honest,
- 24:14Speaker 2: they will say yes to all three. And then you'll
- 24:17Speaker 2: bring them back to the law. And he said, according
- 24:22Speaker 2: to God's ten commandments, you've broken three of his commandments.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Thou shallt not kill. I mean I kill. Thou shallt
- 24:30Speaker 2: not steal, Thou shant not lie, Thou shallt not commit adultery.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Jesus says, if you commit, if you look upon a woman,
- 24:37Speaker 2: you've committed adult you already in your heart. And then
- 24:41Speaker 2: that right there will bring the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
- 24:45Speaker 2: If the person is honest with integrity, and then you'll
- 24:50Speaker 2: ask them, okay, according to the good test, have you
- 24:54Speaker 2: passed or failed? Then they'll say I failed. Okay, Well,
- 24:58Speaker 2: if you were standing for God right now, you would
- 25:02Speaker 2: not make it into heaven. Does that concern you? And
- 25:07Speaker 2: if they're honest, they should say yes, like this should convict.
- 25:11Speaker 2: If the Holy Spirit is truly working. And if this
- 25:14Speaker 2: is an honest person who looks at themselves honestly, because
- 25:18Speaker 2: the worst type of deception is self deception. A lot
- 25:23Speaker 2: of people will begin to excuse their sin or explain
- 25:27Speaker 2: it away, but you're not going to be able to
- 25:30Speaker 2: do that before the throne of God. So it's really
- 25:33Speaker 2: important for these people. You can't allow them off the hook.
- 25:40Speaker 2: And this is our love because we love them, we
- 25:42Speaker 2: want them to look at themselves. And then you introduce
- 25:47Speaker 2: the Savior, and that's what the law does. The law
- 25:50Speaker 2: points us to Christ say, you know what, Jesus paid
- 25:54Speaker 2: the price. He wants to impute righteousness to your account,
- 26:00Speaker 2: but you have to receive him. You need Jesus to
- 26:04Speaker 2: save you from yourself, to save you from sin. And
- 26:10Speaker 2: that's how that went down. And so I was able
- 26:13Speaker 2: to go with my pastor at the time and meet
- 26:16Speaker 2: with them, and I was a part of one of
- 26:18Speaker 2: their episodes. I was actually behind the scenes. I don't know,
- 26:22Speaker 2: you might see my name in the credits, but we
- 26:24Speaker 2: met them at to be I believed to be Laggio
- 26:28Speaker 2: and help them with their equipments be set up on
- 26:30Speaker 2: the strip, and we were able to do this witness,
- 26:34Speaker 2: and I would love to start that back up again.
- 26:37Speaker 2: You know, I think it was a great time. Amen.
- 26:44Speaker 2: All right, So where were we? Okay, the mirror? So
- 26:50Speaker 2: we were at or was it seven through thirteen? Okay?
- 27:03Speaker 2: Therefore the law is holy and the commandment is holy?
- 27:08Speaker 2: Justin good? All right? We read that? So thirteen, has
- 27:12Speaker 2: in what is good become death to me? Certainly? Not,
- 27:18Speaker 2: but sin that it might appear sin was producing death
- 27:24Speaker 2: in me through what is good? They gotta read this carefully.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Has it what is good become deaf to me? Talking
- 27:34Speaker 2: about the law is good? Has it become death to me?
- 27:38Speaker 2: And Paul he answers his own questions. Certainly not, but
- 27:43Speaker 2: sin that it might appear sin. So sin is defined,
- 27:49Speaker 2: sin is exposed. Now we get to see what sin
- 27:52Speaker 2: really is. And that's what it's all about. We need
- 27:55Speaker 2: to open our eyes to our true state. People think
- 28:00Speaker 2: that they're good because we compare ourselves to one another.
- 28:04Speaker 2: But once we look into the Word of God, and
- 28:07Speaker 2: the Word of God is a mirror, the word of
- 28:09Speaker 2: God will show us who we truly are. The Word
- 28:13Speaker 2: of God will show us the sin that we are sinners.
- 28:16Speaker 2: And that's the job of the law. Sin was producing
- 28:21Speaker 2: death in me through what is good, so that sin
- 28:26Speaker 2: through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful. Right through the commandment.
- 28:33Speaker 2: And now it's exceedingly sinful, for we know that the
- 28:36Speaker 2: law is spiritual. That's the whole point right here. That's
- 28:42Speaker 2: the whole point of this chapter. This is the meat
- 28:45Speaker 2: and the potatoes. This is what we really need to understand.
- 28:49Speaker 2: And we really need to get this in our hearts
- 28:52Speaker 2: and in our minds and understand that it is spiritual.
- 28:58Speaker 2: But I am carnal sold undersin for what I am doing,
- 29:06Speaker 2: I do not understand. For what I will to do,
- 29:12Speaker 2: that I do not practice now that I will to do.
- 29:17Speaker 2: He's saying that he understands that the law is good.
- 29:21Speaker 2: We understand it's good that we should not lie, we
- 29:24Speaker 2: should not steal, we shouldn't cheat on our spouses. Right
- 29:28Speaker 2: the law tells us not to kill and not to
- 29:32Speaker 2: have no other gods, and all that stuff that is good.
- 29:36Speaker 2: We consent to it. But that I do not practice.
- 29:42Speaker 2: This is a universal, classic struggle for all Christians. Right,
- 29:47Speaker 2: what we want to do, we don't. We don't do it.
- 29:51Speaker 2: But what I hate that I do. How many of
- 29:55Speaker 2: us have been to this place. This is why I
- 29:58Speaker 2: love the Book of Romans. This book will set us
- 30:01Speaker 2: free and start revival. I do what I hate. How
- 30:07Speaker 2: many of us have that sin that be setting sin
- 30:11Speaker 2: in our lives, that once we do it, we don't
- 30:15Speaker 2: want to do it, but while we do it, we
- 30:16Speaker 2: even hate it while we're doing it, but we can't
- 30:19Speaker 2: help ourselves. And when we're done, we feel so condemned
- 30:24Speaker 2: and so ashamed. I went through this when I was
- 30:27Speaker 2: dealing with pornography. I hated it, I was convicted, and
- 30:34Speaker 2: I was disgusted with myself. When the sin is accomplished,
- 30:42Speaker 2: I wanted to stop, but I couldn't Verse sixteen. If
- 30:47Speaker 2: then I do what I will not to do. I
- 30:50Speaker 2: agree with the law that it is good, But now
- 30:56Speaker 2: it is no longer I who do it. But sin
- 31:00Speaker 2: that dwells in me. This is where we come into bondage.
- 31:05Speaker 2: This is where we become that addic. This is where
- 31:09Speaker 2: we think we start something. We think we're in control,
- 31:13Speaker 2: but soon we find out that we're not in control.
- 31:16Speaker 2: We're out of control and men Verse eighteen. For I
- 31:20Speaker 2: know that in me, that is in my flesh, nothing
- 31:24Speaker 2: good dwells. For I will to present with me, for
- 31:34Speaker 2: to will is present with me. Excuse me, but how
- 31:38Speaker 2: to perform what is good I do not find. For
- 31:43Speaker 2: the good that I will to do, I do not
- 31:47Speaker 2: do it. Now, pay attention, belove it, because this is
- 31:51Speaker 2: a struggle. He's gonna give us thee remedy how to
- 31:55Speaker 2: get free from this. But the evil I will not
- 31:58Speaker 2: to do, that I practice. Now. If I do what
- 32:03Speaker 2: I will not to do, it is no longer I
- 32:07Speaker 2: who do it, but sin that dwells within me. All right,
- 32:13Speaker 2: let's park right there and let's break some of this down. Now,
- 32:20Speaker 2: Paul's inner struggle. What I will to do I do
- 32:26Speaker 2: not practice. But what I hate that I do. Now
- 32:34Speaker 2: Paul is being transparent. Now think about Paul heavy Hitter,
- 32:41Speaker 2: an apostle of Christ. He has been to the third Heaven, anointed,
- 32:49Speaker 2: establishing churches, powerful man of God, still struggling with this struggle.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Sometimes we get the pig. We put people on a
- 33:01Speaker 2: pedestal the pastor. We think the pastor is invincible, We
- 33:06Speaker 2: think the pastor doesn't have any problems. We think the
- 33:09Speaker 2: pastor is not human because he preaches and teaches the word.
- 33:13Speaker 2: But we can't put anyone up on that pedestal. We
- 33:17Speaker 2: all struggle with the flesh, and we all have the
- 33:21Speaker 2: potential to lose the battle. Look at so many pastors
- 33:26Speaker 2: who started off good and ended up failing. It's because
- 33:31Speaker 2: of this struggle. Right here, this is the reason why.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Right here, and this is where we must be trained.
- 33:41Speaker 2: We must pay attention. This is something that we must
- 33:45Speaker 2: on a daily basis learn how to get the victory
- 33:49Speaker 2: over and Paul struggled with this. This is a classic
- 33:57Speaker 2: Christian struggle. The flesh wars against the spirit. There's no
- 34:03Speaker 2: good thing in your flesh. I tell my children all
- 34:06Speaker 2: the time. Don't give in to your emotions. Don't give
- 34:12Speaker 2: in to how it feels. That is only your flesh,
- 34:17Speaker 2: and your flesh is only there to bring you down.
- 34:22Speaker 2: You see, if we didn't have the flesh, Satan would
- 34:25Speaker 2: not have anything to work with. The only reason why
- 34:30Speaker 2: Satan can get a foothold in our lives is because
- 34:34Speaker 2: he understands that if he appeals to our flesh, if
- 34:39Speaker 2: he presents to us desires that appeal to our flesh.
- 34:44Speaker 2: I was talking just just this Sunday after church to
- 34:51Speaker 2: the children, I says, you know what, think of it
- 34:52Speaker 2: like this, Like we're in a big fish bowl, and
- 34:55Speaker 2: the devil has a big hook and he's trying to
- 34:58Speaker 2: fish us. He's trying to snare us. He's the hunter
- 35:01Speaker 2: of souls. And it's like, man, just the reality of
- 35:05Speaker 2: this dude is really trying to hunt us. We're being
- 35:08Speaker 2: hunted and we got to understand this. And he uses
- 35:11Speaker 2: the flesh to get it, to bate us on his
- 35:16Speaker 2: hook and to destroy our lives. Only the spirit can
- 35:22Speaker 2: deal with the flesh. We can't do it ourselves, no
- 35:26Speaker 2: self help. There's nothing we can do to conquer the
- 35:31Speaker 2: self life, only the spirit. We have to yield to
- 35:36Speaker 2: the spirit. Deliverance is only through Christ Jesus, our Lord.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Now Paul's honesty is refreshing. He admits to the battle.
- 35:49Speaker 2: And I believe pastors need to be more transparent and
- 35:54Speaker 2: more relatable to the people, to let them know, like, Hey,
- 35:59Speaker 2: I struggle and I battle just like everyone else. And
- 36:03Speaker 2: on that note, I struggle and I battle just like
- 36:06Speaker 2: everyone else. I'm not perfect. I don't have this down.
- 36:11Speaker 2: But the key is in verse twenty five. Victory isn't
- 36:14Speaker 2: in self effort, but in Christ Jesus. So let's get
- 36:22Speaker 2: that up verse twenty and then we'll go finish off
- 36:25Speaker 2: the chapter, and it says, I found then a law
- 36:32Speaker 2: that evil is present with me. Think about that, beloved,
- 36:37Speaker 2: evil is present with us. Evil wants to fellowship with us.
- 36:43Speaker 2: Evil wants to attach itself with us. Evil wants to
- 36:47Speaker 2: be in our presence. That's pretty freaking that evil is
- 36:53Speaker 2: present with me, the one who wills to do good
- 37:00Speaker 2: for I delight in the law of God according to
- 37:05Speaker 2: the inward man, so inwardly, and I can relate with Paul.
- 37:10Speaker 2: The word of God is awesome. Once we get a
- 37:13Speaker 2: healthy diet of the Word of God, we can't get
- 37:16Speaker 2: enough of it, right, we enjoy. As a matter of fact,
- 37:21Speaker 2: you tune into this podcast just so that you can
- 37:24Speaker 2: get a healthy meal, spiritual meal breaking down the Word
- 37:30Speaker 2: of God together. But in verse twenty three, but I
- 37:34Speaker 2: see another law in my members, worrying against the law
- 37:39Speaker 2: of my mind. Now, remember even Jesus said the spirit
- 37:44Speaker 2: is willing, but the flesh is weak. We gotta deal
- 37:47Speaker 2: with the flesh life and bringing me into captivity by
- 37:52Speaker 2: the law of sin, which is in my members. Right,
- 37:57Speaker 2: Paul talks about members, he's talking about his flos actulely body.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Twenty four Old wretched Man that I am. Now, this
- 38:06Speaker 2: is we need to add this to our prayer life. Right,
- 38:11Speaker 2: and when I come before God and I repent, I'm like, Lord,
- 38:15Speaker 2: forgive me this wretched man. This is us. This is
- 38:20Speaker 2: how we need to look at ourselves. Not that we're
- 38:22Speaker 2: good people and we're good enough to go to heaven.
- 38:25Speaker 2: We all need to cry out, old, wretched man, that
- 38:28Speaker 2: I am. Who will deliver me from this body of death? Right?
- 38:35Speaker 2: It's not what will deliver or how can I deliver myself?
- 38:39Speaker 2: How can I muster up enough will power? Right, it's who.
- 38:47Speaker 2: It's about relationship. Who will deliver me? In verse twenty five,
- 38:53Speaker 2: this is our victory verse. This is our memory verse.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Write this down all right, and commit this to our memory.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I think God. Now Paul is thankful. We all need
- 39:06Speaker 2: to thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So then
- 39:11Speaker 2: with the mind I myself serve the law, but with
- 39:17Speaker 2: the flesh the law of sin. Amen. Amen. Now that's
- 39:28Speaker 2: kind of a weird place to end the chapter, but
- 39:31Speaker 2: stick with me. In chapter eight we're going to continue
- 39:34Speaker 2: the thought. And remember when the translators translated the Bible,
- 39:39Speaker 2: they added chapter and verses. But this is like in
- 39:42Speaker 2: the middle of a thought right here. The verse eight
- 39:45Speaker 2: will continue it. But verse five is I thank God
- 39:50Speaker 2: through Christ Jesus our Lord. Now this is our memory
- 39:55Speaker 2: verse because we can apply this through every area of
- 39:59Speaker 2: our life when we come up against a challenge, when
- 40:03Speaker 2: we come up against a difficulty, situations in our marriage,
- 40:07Speaker 2: situations in our homes, situations at work, as school, I
- 40:15Speaker 2: think God, through Christ Jesus our Lord, we can overcome.
- 40:20Speaker 2: We can conquer. Remember, we need to yield. Like we
- 40:25Speaker 2: said in our last episode, is like we're on a highway.
- 40:29Speaker 2: We can yield either to the spirit or we can
- 40:32Speaker 2: yield either to the flesh. We decide we have that power.
- 40:37Speaker 2: That's us. The enemy will try to make it seem
- 40:40Speaker 2: like you don't have a choice, and of course, outside
- 40:43Speaker 2: of Christ Jesus, you don't. You are in bondage to
- 40:47Speaker 2: a sinful life. But in God we have that choice.
- 40:54Speaker 2: I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then
- 40:59Speaker 2: with the mind and I myself serve the law of God,
- 41:03Speaker 2: but with the flesh the law of sin. Now Paul concludes,
- 41:09Speaker 2: through the flesh there is still a battle. The victory
- 41:17Speaker 2: is in Christ and Christ alone. That's the shouts of victory.
- 41:26Speaker 2: No self help, no rules, just Jesus say, man, all right,
- 41:35Speaker 2: let's go to a quick music break here, just carrying
- 41:38Speaker 2: the light with Heaven. I'll be right back.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Why would I covet what I covet?
- 42:07Speaker 4: I tell you?
- 42:11Speaker 3: Why would I come when I come?
- 42:14Speaker 1: Yeah? Yo, yeah?
- 42:17Speaker 3: Why would I cove it for anything I'm not made for?
- 42:20Speaker 3: While would I cover it? I got everything I prayed for?
- 42:23Speaker 3: Never want me to die. I gotta live up to
- 42:25Speaker 3: his name, though, and my a man of God, I'm
- 42:27Speaker 3: like who you think I changed for? Wh Look inside
- 42:29Speaker 3: the mirror. I'll be trying to see if Christ in it.
- 42:31Speaker 3: I know he is near. He wonder who gonna spend
- 42:33Speaker 3: a life with him?
- 42:34Speaker 1: Being in my ear?
- 42:35Speaker 3: It feel like I'm rolling dice with him, But I
- 42:38Speaker 3: let God stare.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I feel like I'm on a.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Flight with him.
- 42:40Speaker 1: We up the better.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Guilt is uncomfortable when it's harder when I lie in it,
- 42:44Speaker 3: closet full of skeletons from secrets that then died in it.
- 42:47Speaker 3: He gave me a place, and I've been wasting all
- 42:49Speaker 3: his time in it? Who will full of grace? And
- 42:51Speaker 3: he can't wait until I dive in it? Talk to
- 42:53Speaker 3: God daily when he wake me up with me on
- 42:56Speaker 3: my mind. Every day we try to stay in touch.
- 42:58Speaker 3: It feel like a long way to have man. I
- 43:00Speaker 3: hope I make the cut. Gotta be so deep into
- 43:02Speaker 3: them pages. I got paider cut suicide. It still creep
- 43:05Speaker 3: up in my mind sometimes pray for me. I still
- 43:07Speaker 3: got some fake friends on my line. I think they
- 43:09Speaker 3: pray on me. Anyone that loans for what I have,
- 43:11Speaker 3: I think they take from me. While would I covet
- 43:14Speaker 3: for anything that he ain't made for me? While would
- 43:16Speaker 3: I covet when there's nothing that I lack with? While
- 43:19Speaker 3: would I covet when I wake up and I have grace?
- 43:21Speaker 3: I got a new lens. I got cleansed when I
- 43:24Speaker 3: last prayed, I committed sins with repenting. He hit back space.
- 43:28Speaker 3: While would I covet when there's nothing that I lack with?
- 43:30Speaker 3: While would I covet when I wake up and I
- 43:33Speaker 3: have grace? I got a new lens. I got cleansed
- 43:35Speaker 3: when I last prayed, I committed sins with repenting. He
- 43:38Speaker 3: hit backspay exact space. Swiftly living, Yeah, you swiftly live
- 44:05Speaker 3: in my ages and depression don't even hit the same.
- 44:07Speaker 3: I've been through all them stages, lust, addiction, much conviction.
- 44:10Speaker 3: I've been through all them phases. Some instance, I trusts scripture.
- 44:13Speaker 3: I've been through all of them pages. I'm still stuck here,
- 44:15Speaker 3: darkest where I get for nest. It ain't never no
- 44:17Speaker 3: love here. Pray to God that I get some rest
- 44:19Speaker 3: and dream of things above here.
- 44:21Speaker 2: You have to be afraid of test.
- 44:22Speaker 3: But lately I'm above here. I feel God all in
- 44:24Speaker 3: my chest, and I can since his son near. I've
- 44:26Speaker 3: been seeing kids retrieve the toys that I've been wanting. Lately,
- 44:30Speaker 3: all my prayers been feeling void. But I ain't running
- 44:32Speaker 3: comparison a thief. That's still the joy that I got coming.
- 44:35Speaker 3: I know it's a trap, so I don't touch it.
- 44:37Speaker 3: I don't cove it.
- 44:37Speaker 4: I don't love it.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Why would I come when?
- 44:42Speaker 1: Why would I cove it?
- 44:43Speaker 3: When God tell me keep going, I'm go trusted when
- 44:46Speaker 3: life not how I want it, I still love it.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Tell me why would I cove it? Why would I come?
- 44:52Speaker 4: Why would I.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Why would I come it? When God tell me keep going,
- 44:56Speaker 3: I'm go trust it When life not how I want it,
- 44:58Speaker 3: I still love it. Why would I throw away with
- 45:01Speaker 3: my heart put in to invest trade and all that
- 45:04Speaker 3: I was put into all of them tests. Delilah still
- 45:06Speaker 3: got all the power and full of fact, got them
- 45:08Speaker 3: claws up in my chest, took my soul.
- 45:10Speaker 1: She got it fast.
- 45:11Speaker 3: I'd be all up in that Bible trying to see
- 45:13Speaker 3: how much some peace costs. Heart been feeling cold. I
- 45:15Speaker 3: need some space so it could defrost. I got Jesus
- 45:18Speaker 3: over just a bell. I got a speed off. But
- 45:20Speaker 3: I can take in al and still prevail, so I
- 45:22Speaker 3: don't see loss solo. Men had paved the way that
- 45:24Speaker 3: I should embark, he said, fear of God is where
- 45:27Speaker 3: all of my wisdom would start. But I've been feeling
- 45:29Speaker 3: weak from all the pain in my heart because I'm
- 45:31Speaker 3: haunted by decisions that I made in the dark. Double
- 45:35Speaker 3: minded movements is leaving me to unstables, broke brand with Judas.
- 45:38Speaker 3: I got serpents at my table, my wife looking at me,
- 45:41Speaker 3: uncertain if I've been faithful. Because history repeat itself more
- 45:44Speaker 3: than it should be able. I've been seeing kids retrieve
- 45:47Speaker 3: the toys that I've been wanting. Lately, all my prayers
- 45:50Speaker 3: been feeling void. But I ain't running comparison a thief.
- 45:52Speaker 3: That's still the joy that I got coming. I know
- 45:55Speaker 3: it's a trap, so I don't touch it. While would
- 45:57Speaker 3: I cover?
- 45:57Speaker 1: What I cover?
- 46:00Speaker 3: What I come?
- 46:00Speaker 4: What I.
- 46:02Speaker 3: Why would I cove it? When God tell me keep going?
- 46:05Speaker 3: I'm gon trust it when life now how I want it?
- 46:07Speaker 3: I still love it? Tell me why would I come?
- 46:09Speaker 3: While what I Why would I come? When I Why
- 46:14Speaker 3: would I come it? When God tell me keep going?
- 46:16Speaker 3: I'm gonna trusted with life now how I want it?
- 46:18Speaker 3: I still love it.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I still love it.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it looks like you lost another one.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Alright, alright, I'm back. Welcome back to the y is
- 46:56Speaker 2: Hot Radio podcast where we go verse by verse through
- 47:01Speaker 2: the word and hit you with some hot stuff like that.
- 47:06Speaker 2: We just hit you right now, curing the life. Why
- 47:08Speaker 2: will I covet? Perfect song for Romans Chapter seven the
- 47:13Speaker 2: Book of Romans we're going through. We're gonna on our
- 47:18Speaker 2: next episode, we're gonna hit Romans chapter eight, which is
- 47:20Speaker 2: another great like these are the meat and potatoes of
- 47:24Speaker 2: the Book of Romans. This will help us learn how
- 47:29Speaker 2: to gain the victory over our flesh, and we live
- 47:33Speaker 2: that victorious life. The battle is the Lord's man. We
- 47:38Speaker 2: can't we have no power within ourselves to conquer this
- 47:43Speaker 2: We just need to allow the Lord to fight our battles. Amen.
- 47:50Speaker 2: That's it, in a nutshell, that's the victory cry right there.
- 47:55Speaker 2: All right. Our next segment is the accountability partner. We
- 47:59Speaker 2: are not designed to do this on our own. There
- 48:02Speaker 2: is no lone ranger Christian right in this battle, in
- 48:08Speaker 2: this army. We're supposed to be together. We're supposed to
- 48:12Speaker 2: be one tribe. We're supposed to stay in with the pack.
- 48:16Speaker 2: The enemy will have a harder time penetrating us when
- 48:21Speaker 2: we're back to back, when we're in the pack, when
- 48:24Speaker 2: we're in fellowship with one another, isolated by ourselves, it's
- 48:30Speaker 2: easier to pick us off. So, if you don't have
- 48:33Speaker 2: an accountability partner, pray as God to bring one into
- 48:37Speaker 2: your life. If you have a pastor that you trust,
- 48:40Speaker 2: or a mentor that you trust, a spiritual mentor, reach
- 48:45Speaker 2: out to them. And the challenge today is this week
- 48:50Speaker 2: or today, let's check in with them, give them a
- 48:54Speaker 2: call and ask them questions like are you walking in
- 48:58Speaker 2: the spirit or falling back into fleshly struggles? That's the topic,
- 49:08Speaker 2: talk about walking into spirit or falling into fleshly struggles.
- 49:13Speaker 2: Paul shows us it's a real wrestling match. We're going
- 49:23Speaker 2: to wrestle with the spirit versus the flesh to something
- 49:32Speaker 2: that we all face as Christians. But accountability keeps us
- 49:38Speaker 2: pressing towards Christ. Right, Allow someone that will correct you.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Allow someone that can get up in your face and
- 49:48Speaker 2: be like, dude, what are you doing. Get out of
- 49:51Speaker 2: the flesh. You need to be pressing towards Christ. That's
- 49:57Speaker 2: someone that we all should have. Now reach out to
- 50:03Speaker 2: your accountability partners, share your struggle and pray together. Hey,
