- 0:25Speaker 1: Inside the Birds podcast, which you can get on all
- 0:28Speaker 1: podcasting platforms at And one of the hosts is Jeff Mosher.
- 0:32Speaker 1: He's pitch hitting today for Adam Kaplan, who usually joins
- 0:36Speaker 1: us on a Friday to break down the injury report
- 0:39Speaker 1: and the game statuses, which Jeff just popped in. And
- 0:42Speaker 1: there will be no Saquon Barkley, no Drew Kendall, and
- 0:47Speaker 1: no Devontae Smith. Three guys out. One name not on
- 0:50Speaker 1: that list we'll get to in just a second. But
- 0:53Speaker 1: no Kendall, no Smith, and Barkley. Obviously a big challenge
- 0:57Speaker 1: losing those three guys. But the Kendall one... Now who's
- 1:02Speaker 1: filling in at the center spot? You've already had offensive
- 1:04Speaker 1: line issues to start this week.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Mike.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It just feels like it's never going to get better.
- 1:10Speaker 3: You've got to hit rock bottom before you can improve. Obviously,
- 1:15Speaker 3: the same week that you trade away Cam Juergens, then
- 1:18Speaker 3: your starting center, who's already a backup, goes down, has
- 1:22Speaker 3: the knee injury.
- 1:23Speaker 2: He was in the medical tent last week for just
- 1:25Speaker 2: a few minutes. It makes me wonder.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Was he gutting through a lot of pain, you know,
- 1:31Speaker 3: in that game? But obviously he can't go. He's got
- 1:33Speaker 3: the knee injury. So it'll be interesting to see what
- 1:36Speaker 3: they do. Willie Lampkin, they've got. Jake Majors on the
- 1:41Speaker 3: practice squad was getting a lot of run. People saw
- 1:43Speaker 3: him in practice. So maybe you're going to see some
- 1:45Speaker 3: combination of Lampkin at left guard and Jake Majors at
- 1:49Speaker 3: center or Lampkin at center, Majors at left guard. And, wow,
- 1:54Speaker 3: you got a lot going on over there, buddy.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, we've got people drag racing up Chilton Road here.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Nice.
- 2:01Speaker 3: But the point is, it's just a very unideal situation
- 2:05Speaker 3: for the Eagles going into this game against a very
- 2:08Speaker 3: good Jaguars team, great defensive front. Markel Bell, of course,
- 2:13Speaker 3: is going to make his second start at right tackle.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I mean, this is about as inexperienced of an offensive
- 2:19Speaker 3: line as you will ever see the Eagles.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Have, Mike.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so Markel Bell looks like at right tackle.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Tyler Steen.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We don't know who the center and left guard are
- 2:28Speaker 1: going to be because, as you just chronicled, I guess
- 2:30Speaker 1: they could play Lampkin at center for the week or
- 2:33Speaker 1: so and then move him. Or do they want to
- 2:35Speaker 1: get him going at left guard? What would your intuition
- 2:37Speaker 1: say there?
- 2:41Speaker 3: You know, if it were up to me, I'd be
- 2:43Speaker 3: playing Lampkin at center because he is a natural center.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And I'd probably start Micah Morris at left guard. But
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I'm not there behind the scenes to see what kind of.
- 2:54Speaker 3: you know, progress he's made, but he's a guard and
- 2:57Speaker 3: Lampkin's a center. So, I mean, at least you have
- 2:59Speaker 3: guys playing in the position they're supposed to play. And,
- 3:02Speaker 3: you know, Micah is a big 330-pound guy, so you're
- 3:06Speaker 3: trying to move people. But, obviously, Majors has a little
- 3:09Speaker 3: bit more experience, not a ton, but at least he's
- 3:12Speaker 3: been with the team on the practice squad last year,
- 3:15Speaker 3: this year. He's been through the transition. He has also
- 3:18Speaker 3: cross-trained a guard. I know people are excited about what
- 3:22Speaker 3: they saw from Lampkin and Majors in the preseason, I
- 3:25Speaker 3: wouldn't just go ahead and draw the correlation to Sunday
- 3:29Speaker 3: in London against the Jaguars, that they're just going to
- 3:31Speaker 3: be moving Jaguars left and right.
- 3:33Speaker 2: One of the big things, Mike, is the Jaguars have
- 3:36Speaker 2: a defensive tackle, Eric Armstead, right.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Who's really tall and long, long-armed guy, lanky.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And Lampkin is a short guy. He's 5'9, right?
- 3:47Speaker 3: He even told reporters this week, like, I know there's
- 3:49Speaker 3: not a lot of offensive linemen built like me. So
- 3:52Speaker 3: you're talking about a bad sort of matchup here, no
- 3:56Speaker 3: matter how good of a plan that he has and
- 3:59Speaker 3: can play at guard. I mean, when you're going up
- 4:01Speaker 3: against an Armstead who's long-armed like that, it's going to
- 4:03Speaker 3: be tough for both him or Majors.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Majors are short-armed too.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Right, and the one thing that I look at that's
- 4:11Speaker 1: interesting here, because some people, and Mosher, I'd like to
- 4:13Speaker 1: get your takeaway on this. Some people kind of looked
- 4:16Speaker 1: at the trade as like a waving of the white
- 4:17Speaker 1: flag by the Eagles. I don't know that I see
- 4:20Speaker 1: it that way. I can see it going that direction
- 4:23Speaker 1: if this season goes downhill this week, next week. You
- 4:26Speaker 1: got Dallas the week after that. You lose, you know, three, four,
- 4:29Speaker 1: five games in a row. I don't think trading Juergens
- 4:32Speaker 1: is the waving of the white flag. But I do wonder,
- 4:35Speaker 1: what are you now trying to achieve up front? Is
- 4:38Speaker 1: Kendall your center of the future? Do you want to
- 4:40Speaker 1: see if Lampkin's a part of your future? And if
- 4:43Speaker 1: you do, is part of your future him playing left guard?
- 4:47Speaker 1: I can't imagine that with Landon Dickerson playing. back here
- 4:50Speaker 1: maybe sooner than later. So Markel Bell, do you want
- 4:54Speaker 1: to see if he's your tackle of the future? You're
- 4:56Speaker 1: trying to find out if these guys are your future
- 5:00Speaker 1: in the present right now, but you're still trying to
- 5:03Speaker 1: win at the same time, right?
- 5:05Speaker 2: You are trying to win. I agree with you.
- 5:08Speaker 3: It was not a waving of the white flag, not
- 5:11Speaker 3: at 2-2, when the best team in your division by
- 5:14Speaker 3: record right now is the Giants at 3-1, and you
- 5:16Speaker 3: feel like They're.
- 5:17Speaker 2: A team that will come back to earth on their
- 5:19Speaker 2: backup quarterback.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I also would agree that it is not a fire
- 5:23Speaker 3: sale in the truest sense, because when you think of
- 5:25Speaker 3: a fire sale, you think of everybody has got to go.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I don't care what the price is. How we got
- 5:29Speaker 3: a second round pick for Cam Juergens, right? So that's
- 5:33Speaker 3: not the kind of trade that you would call a
- 5:35Speaker 3: fire sale. But I do think two things can be
- 5:37Speaker 3: true at the same time by trading Cam Juergens.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And I don't care what the PFF rankings were.
- 5:43Speaker 3: People have made it seem like Cam Juergens is responsible
- 5:46Speaker 3: for every single bad play the Eagles have had, along
- 5:49Speaker 3: with the economy, the gas prices, the wars.
- 5:52Speaker 2: In the Middle East and overseas. I mean, it is ridiculous.
- 5:55Speaker 3: You wouldn't have thought the guy is the worst player
- 5:56Speaker 3: in the NFL, the way he's being celebrated for being,
- 6:00Speaker 3: or the way his ushering out is being celebrated, and
- 6:03Speaker 3: that it can't get any worse or anything. I mean,
- 6:06Speaker 3: there are some ridiculous statements on out there. But the
- 6:09Speaker 3: reality is, by trading him, it really does leave the
- 6:13Speaker 3: line in a perilous situation.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Just four weeks.
- 6:16Speaker 3: In, you're expecting Dickerson to come back, but is he
- 6:20Speaker 3: going to be 100% healthy? Like when he does and functional,
- 6:24Speaker 3: is he going to be? And there's some questions about
- 6:26Speaker 3: his fit for the scheme anyway.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So it's not a fire.
- 6:29Speaker 3: So it's not a waving of the white flag, but
- 6:31Speaker 3: it is absolutely true that the Eagles knew when they
- 6:34Speaker 3: made this trade, it didn't make them better in the
- 6:36Speaker 3: short term or the long term for the rest of
- 6:39Speaker 3: this year.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Well, let's look at some good news for the Eagles.
- 6:42Speaker 1: It seems like, yes, there has been a lot of
- 6:44Speaker 1: gloom and doom. However, Zach Vaughn cleared the concussion. Full
- 6:49Speaker 1: practice today. Jahad Campbell, full participant. I don't know if
- 6:52Speaker 1: that's good or bad, to be honest with you. Dallas Goddard,
- 6:55Speaker 1: full participant today, as is Quinion Mitchell and Fred Johnson.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So they are starting to get some guys back, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: how about Dallas Goddard being back?
- 7:06Speaker 4: It appears that he will play in the game this week.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and that's helpful because right now you're
- 7:12Speaker 3: missing so many guys. You need all the healthy guys
- 7:15Speaker 3: you can get. But, I mean, I'll just ask you,
- 7:17Speaker 3: do you think this is suddenly the difference between the
- 7:19Speaker 3: Eagles being counted out of this game and having a
- 7:22Speaker 3: way better shot to win?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you brought that up. We just had
- 7:27Speaker 1: Mia O'Brien on who covers the Jaguars, and one of
- 7:29Speaker 1: the things she said about the Jacksonville defense, very, very good,
- 7:33Speaker 1: she says, but where they are susceptible is– I don't.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Want to hear that. I don't want to hear.
- 7:39Speaker 3: I'll tell you, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but this
- 7:41Speaker 3: is not your fault. So Adam and I do the
- 7:43Speaker 3: pregame show with Greg Cosell, and every freaking week for
- 7:47Speaker 3: the last 25 weeks going back to last year, oh,
- 7:50Speaker 3: this team has bad corners.
- 7:51Speaker 2: This team has injuries in the secondary. This team has injuries.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Oh, this is the game you come out, get your
- 7:56Speaker 3: run game and your pass game and yada, yada, yada.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It's all BS. You can't execute an offense if you
- 8:02Speaker 2: can't block up front. And Dallas Goddard, A, is not
- 8:05Speaker 2: much of a blocker anymore. And B, in the.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Past game, as much as he can help you, if
- 8:10Speaker 3: you're getting your quarterbacks under duress, I mean, the Jaguars,
- 8:13Speaker 3: maybe they do give up a lot underneath, but they're
- 8:16Speaker 3: an excellent defense and they have a very good defensive coordinator.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I think that they would be fine.
- 8:21Speaker 3: If you asked them to trade, who would you rather have,
- 8:24Speaker 3: like Dallas Goddard playing for the Eagles or their offensive
- 8:26Speaker 3: line being healthy and no Goddard?
- 8:27Speaker 2: They'd be like, yeah.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Goddard playing for the Eagles was fine with us. No
- 8:30Speaker 3: offensive line better.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I just was answering the question that you threw to
- 8:35Speaker 1: me was, is Goddard coming back all of a sudden?
- 8:38Speaker 4: And it does give them kind.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Of that security blank underneath weapon that they, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: it's surely.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Been lacking the last couple of weeks without him.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. For sure. But, you know, they had
- 8:49Speaker 2: him week one. They weren't exactly an impressive offense. They
- 8:51Speaker 2: had them last year. He had 11 touchdowns. He had
- 8:54Speaker 2: a great year. And by the end of the year,
- 8:56Speaker 2: what were we saying about the offense? Right?
- 8:58Speaker 3: I mean, this is not– Dallas Cowboys is a good player,
- 9:01Speaker 3: but it ain't getting, like, the MVP of the league back.
- 9:05Speaker 3: It's not going to matter to make up.
- 9:07Speaker 2: For all their differences.
- 9:08Speaker 4: All right.
- 9:09Speaker 1: A couple– let's get some takes from Mosher on the
- 9:11Speaker 1: game here. Running back rotation this week, what does that
- 9:14Speaker 1: look like? No Barkley, no Bixby. Running back this Sunday
- 9:18Speaker 1: looks like what?
- 9:20Speaker 3: I mean, obviously Will Shipley's the guy. I mean, he's
- 9:23Speaker 3: on the 53 for a reason. He's the next man up.
- 9:25Speaker 3: He can catch the ball, and he may be needed
- 9:29Speaker 3: to catch quite a bit. He may be needed to
- 9:30Speaker 3: keep in for pass protection because the Jags may want
- 9:33Speaker 3: to come after Jalen Hurts like crazy, like the last
- 9:36Speaker 3: few teams have done.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So it's important. Damian Pierce, I believe he got signed
- 9:41Speaker 2: to the 53, correct? So he'll be there too.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to be like 100% of
- 9:46Speaker 3: the carries and touches are going to go to– Will Shipley.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I think you're going to see, I wouldn't call it
- 9:52Speaker 3: a committee, but I'm sure Damian Pierce will get some
- 9:54Speaker 3: run as well, and we'll see if they elevate Carson
- 9:56Speaker 3: Steele to have a third guy.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Wide receiver, no Devontae Smith. Looks like Wicks did practice.
- 10:03Speaker 4: There was some concern there earlier in the week, I guess. Lemon,
- 10:07Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Wide receiver, did they get those guys involved this week?
- 10:11Speaker 1: They could not get them involved last week.
- 10:14Speaker 4: I thought Lemon.
- 10:15Speaker 1: had opportunities. They just, like, it looked like they had
- 10:18Speaker 1: a little something there and then never went back to them.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, again, I'm probably going to sound like
- 10:24Speaker 3: a broken record. It would be great to get, and
- 10:26Speaker 3: it looks like the Eagles, by the way, just signed
- 10:29Speaker 3: Jake Majors.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And Steele to the 53. So those guys are going
- 10:32Speaker 2: to be playing. Or Bernard on the practice squad injured list. Interesting.
- 10:37Speaker 3: But anyway, the point I'm trying to make is it's
- 10:40Speaker 3: the same thing about, like, getting Lemon involved or nice
- 10:43Speaker 3: to have Wicks. If you can't block it up and
- 10:47Speaker 3: get your quarterback to throw to those receivers when they're
- 10:50Speaker 3: healthy because he's under duress or the offensive environment.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Is bad, then it doesn't matter that much, right? You've
- 10:58Speaker 2: got to be able to block it up.
- 11:01Speaker 4: I agree with all of that.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It's just nice to have some, you know, because the
- 11:05Speaker 1: one thing most that has worked is I'll throw the
- 11:08Speaker 1: ball down the field and Devontae Smith will make a
- 11:10Speaker 1: play for me. So far, I don't know that I
- 11:12Speaker 1: have that guy yet. on the roster for Sunday. That's
- 11:15Speaker 1: one area where that has worked for them this year,
- 11:18Speaker 1: believe it or not. We talked about Goddard being back.
- 11:20Speaker 1: We talked about this offensive line. When you look at
- 11:24Speaker 1: the offense, it looks like it's a total mismatch.
- 11:26Speaker 4: What about the defense? What are they up against?
- 11:30Speaker 2: You know, the Jags offense isn't prolific. It's not explosive.
- 11:36Speaker 3: But Liam Cohen, the head coach, second year, is a
- 11:38Speaker 3: great play caller. He understands how to make the most
- 11:42Speaker 3: of what he has. They'll throw to their tight ends,
- 11:44Speaker 3: Brett and Strange. They drafted a kid, Berkshire, who's pretty decent.
- 11:47Speaker 2: He plays a lot.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Obviously, Parker Washington has become one of the better wide
- 11:51Speaker 3: receivers against.
- 11:53Speaker 2: All odds in the league.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I mean, two years ago, they were like, Brian Thomas Jr.
- 11:58Speaker 3: is the thing, and now he's fourth on the totem
- 12:01Speaker 3: pole behind Parker Washington, Jacoby Myers, who was a good
- 12:04Speaker 3: trade pickup for them last year. This kid, Josh Cameron,
- 12:09Speaker 3: who gets in that they like, they throw him the ball,
- 12:10Speaker 3: and then then you get Brian Thomas jr.
- 12:13Speaker 2: And even Brenton strange probably gets as many, uh, targets.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So there are balanced offense. They run the ball.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Well, they get explosive runs at a Bischoff tootin. Um,
- 12:22Speaker 3: and then they can pound it a little bit with
- 12:23Speaker 3: Chris Rodriguez. So they kind of, they're like the poor
- 12:26Speaker 3: man's 2017 Eagles where they just don't have one guy
- 12:30Speaker 3: who's probably going to give you a thousand yards definitively.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:33Speaker 2: But they've got a lot of guys.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what, uh, it's amazing. You know, uh,
- 12:39Speaker 1: Doug was here. He left because, you know, he didn't
- 12:42Speaker 1: want to make some changes to the staff.
- 12:43Speaker 4: He goes there. He's now fired.
- 12:45Speaker 1: They've already moved on from him, and they are starting
- 12:47Speaker 1: to take off. Here's Nick, and almost in a similar
- 12:49Speaker 1: situation now where the team is now wondering what's next
- 12:53Speaker 1: at head coach here. Do you look at that and
- 12:55Speaker 1: look at that situation where Jacksonville said, you know what,
- 12:57Speaker 1: we're going to move on and just go in that direction.
- 13:00Speaker 1: These young guys who have got their hands on these quarterbacks,
- 13:03Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence, I think, has finally kind of taken that
- 13:05Speaker 1: step forward that we thought when he was the number
- 13:07Speaker 1: one pick.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Maybe he's not.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes good, but, man, they have turned him around
- 13:13Speaker 1: the last two years here.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yeah, well, just watching tape, to me, he looks just
- 13:18Speaker 3: confident in the system, and he's ripping it. He's making
- 13:22Speaker 3: throws that I think he would be tentative to make
- 13:24Speaker 3: in the pass, and he doesn't appear to be turning
- 13:26Speaker 3: the ball over like we saw earlier in the year.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I just think that he, the offensive environment, Liam Cohen's
- 13:32Speaker 3: offense schematically because he's kind of a Sean McVay guy, right?
- 13:36Speaker 3: It's all working in harmony together.
- 13:40Speaker 1: All right, Jeff Mosher, Football 4, powered by the Inside
- 13:43Speaker 1: the Birds podcast, which you can check out on all
- 13:46Speaker 1: podcasting platforms. He pinch hits for Adam today. I guess
- 13:49Speaker 1: big news, Dallas Goddard will be active this week. Jonathan
- 13:53Speaker 1: Grenard is the only one who is questionable, so we'll
- 13:56Speaker 1: see what happens there. Everybody else is out. Barkley's out.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Smith is out. Kendall's out. So those are three big
- 14:03Speaker 1: offensive guys who are out. Vaughn is back, so the
- 14:05Speaker 1: Eagles do get a little bit of talent back. For
- 14:08Speaker 1: the game in London, check out the Inside the Birds
- 14:10Speaker 1: podcast with the guys for all the coverage of this one.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Jeff, thanks, buddy.
- 14:15Speaker 2: You got it, Mike. Take care.
