- 0:01SRI Ramana, maharshi, famously. Inquired into the question.
- 0:06Who am I? Through constant
- 0:09self-examination with this question, the Seeker begins to
- 0:12separate himself from the idea that he is the body or the
- 0:17particular Life, Energy formation, or mental sense that
- 0:21makes up his external surface personality.
- 0:24And being for most people, we look to the physical body as
- 0:29being who we are. When we bury someone in a
- 0:32graveyard, we go to visit our family friend or relative and
- 0:36lay flowers on the grave When recount that we went to see that
- 0:39individual even though the body has likely long since
- 0:44disintegrated, we are so embedded in the consciousness of
- 0:48the body that we believed that we were born and that we will
- 0:52die. And we cannot truly conceive of
- 0:56what came before and what comes after in terms of consciousness,
- 1:02some traditions, such as the, Tibetan Buddhist tradition have
- 1:06explored, the question of Consciousness and great depth,
- 1:10and this tradition describes practices such as transference
- 1:14of Consciousness, as well as the movement of the Consciousness
- 1:18after death through an intermediate State called the
- 1:21Bardo and onto a subsequent rebirth.
- 1:26At some point and SRI Ramana maharshi clearly has
- 1:30Illustrated. We can begin to distinguish
- 1:34between the essential nature of Consciousness and the various
- 1:39forms in which it manifests, and we does begin to see that the
- 1:43body, the life force or the mind are just specific, limited
- 1:49forms, but do not either fully contain nor embody Consciousness
- 1:55in itself. The mother notes, quote.
- 2:00But first, this Consciousness must be mobile and one must know
- 2:04how to distinguish it from the other parts of the being, which
- 2:07in fact are its instruments. It's modes of expression, the
- 2:12Consciousness must make use of these things and not you mistake
- 2:16these things for the Consciousness.
- 2:19You put the Consciousness in these things.
- 2:22So you become conscious of your body conscious of your vital.
- 2:27Conscious of your mind, conscious of all your activities
- 2:31through your will for identification.
- 2:34But for this first, your Consciousness must not be
- 2:38completely entangled. Mingled join.
- 2:42So to say, with all these things, it must not take them
- 2:46for itself was not be mistaken. When one thinks of himself,
- 2:53obviously out of millions of men, perhaps there are not 10
- 2:56who do, otherwise he thinks myself, that's my body, that's
- 3:01what I call myself. What's like this?
- 3:05And so I am like that and then my neighbor he is also the body.
- 3:11When I speak of another person, I speak of his body.
- 3:15And so as long as one is in this state used the plaything of all
- 3:20possible movements and has no self-control.
- 3:25The body is the last instrument and yet, it's this, which one
- 3:29calls myself most of the time. Unless one has begun to reflect
- 3:36and quote, reference SRI aurobindo in the mother living
- 3:41within the yoga approach to psychological health and growth.
