- 0:43SPEAKER_02: All right, gentlemen, happy October 7th, 2026.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: And welcome to the Hood A All Day Podcast.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Michael Bergs, in hot carefree Arizona.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Still in the hundreds out here in the desert.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: Uh our hosts tonight are hot.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Our bangles, not so hot.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: We got Brand, Northern Kentucky.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: Brent, how are you doing?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Doing great, guys.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Happy to talk a little bangles with you guys.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Still early in the year.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And I'll keep on saying it uh before the season even started.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I was like, first four games at minimum, we have to be two and two.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: So we at least accomplished that goal.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So a lot of season in front of us.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I'm happy and excited to talk about it with you guys.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: I'm glad we met the bare minimum.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Uh secondly tonight, we have a uh bare minimum.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: We exactly we got a fill in tonight.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, our boy Brian is representing in Big Sky Country up in Montana.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Tell Bosangeles and beautiful Big Sky.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: We said hello, but we got David Ford with us live from Arizona.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: David, how are you tonight?
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Um I'm a little down, but uh you guys got me pumped up now.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: So I'm I'm happy to be here and talk some bingles with you guys.
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Heck yeah.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Great to have you, uh, Brant.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: Appreciate you showing up.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: I feel like this is gonna be a solid therapy session, especially after the last two weeks.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: But you both know the drill.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: We're gonna go four downs.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: First down, all right, second week in the row.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: What the heck happened?
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Second down, I want you both to give me an offensive fix.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Offense shows some signs, but I think that's the side that was taking a lot of bullets probably this week.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Third down, defense still not perfect.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: I want a defensive fix, and then fourth down, we are gonna play a game this week.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: We are in Miami, and rumor has it, David's gonna be there.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: And so want to get your take.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Yes, want to get your take on that.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: So, Brant, kick us off.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: Lost home, Jacksonville.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: What the heck happened?
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, I'm gonna highlight three different things for you guys.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So uh a couple of them are are pretty obvious.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Uh I think the ones that everybody are talking about, especially the national heads, right?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Like Burrow and the two turnovers.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: You just you just can't have it.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Um, especially the late one, right?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Like down in the red zone, getting close to crunch time, you know, you you've got a chance to really tighten up the game, and he just makes an errant throw, which really isn't Joe.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: But you know, you got Tinsley, who just came back from Houston, uh, being on there on their squad for a second.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: You just don't know what if they're just not on the same page there.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, give credit to the Jags and in their defense and stepping up and being a really good red zone defense and proving it.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: But you just can't have the turnovers.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Uh so he had the one earlier in the game, too, right?
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Where he just kind of got uh got kind of pushed back into and couldn't step into his throw, ball kind of floated, you know, stuff like that happen like that every once in a while.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: But um, but the the the second one really, really hurt.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: So Joe's just gotta be better in crunch time, uh, bottom line.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Uh second thing I would highlight is, you know, again, something that's pretty obvious, I think, especially with that game, but the run game was just atrocious.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Like you can't call whatever it was, 12 runs that we had, and we had what was it, 16, 18 yards total on like 12 runs.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: It it just can't happen.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: That puts so much pressure on Joe, the offense, the receivers, and the offensive line.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: The pass block, I mean, whatever it was, 56 pass blocks for an offensive line.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: They know it's coming, they know it's coming.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, you still have to try to mix it in a little bit.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: The run game, the scheme just isn't working, fellas.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Now, give the Bengals credit.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Like in years past, they've been pretty good at correcting it early in the year.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: So I still have some faith that they can make this work, but I I'm still a little puzzled as to why this tends to happen every year.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: We really just struggle out of the gate with getting the run game going.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Um, I think part of that might be Reisner.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: He's pretty banged up too.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: So he's usually a really good run, uh, pretty good run blocker.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I just, you know, the offensive line, they're doing what they can, but what's your third one?
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Straightened out.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Third one, real quick.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: You guys know I I I harp on this all the time because I'm a I'm a defensive guy at heart, but the tackling, I was really encouraged the first two games.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh, you obviously we were getting a lot of pressure, sacks, all that good stuff.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: The tackling was overall was pretty good.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: These last two games, it's been rough again.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, this problem is is you know, rear in its ugly head.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: I think we're second worst in the NFL with 41 missed tackles in four games.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: You just can't have it.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: You it you can't be a good defense.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Again, it puts so much pressure on the offense to be perfect when you're giving away free downs, giving away free yards.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: So tackling's got to get better, especially in the secondary.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: So those are my three big things.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: On the tackling side, I couldn't believe at the end of the game I checked you out when you said that there were 12 missed tackles, because while you could tell there were missed tackles, they seemed more like critical missed tackles.
- 6:11SPEAKER_02: I couldn't believe that there were 12, but sure enough.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Sadly, good list.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: David, what the heck happened?
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would uh unfortunately agree with uh a few of Brandt's uh lists there, missed tackles, definitely for sure.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think a big component of the loss was not taking control of the game.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, part of which was punting uh near midfield early in the game.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: You've got plenty of time.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: You trust in the defense at this point, you put the money into the diff defense, but um I think that really set the tone um to the players as well on both sides of the ball of hey, we're not gonna we're not taking control of this game, we're gonna see what Jacksonville does.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: So um I think that was a big component.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: And then early to the missed tackles, defense does its job, puts them in third and 18, and then battle comes through with a miss tackle, very reminiscent of last year.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Um so I think that and the but it was also a crazy game, too.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Uh lot of flags, um, which really broke up the momentum of any kind of drive, any um on both sides of the ball.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So I think that compounded with taking the back seat to taking control of the game, really put us behind the eight ball injuries, obviously.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: Joe Burrow, you're unfortunately you're bound to make some bad decisions when you're tossing the ball 60 times a game.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Um, so that he he did what he could with the the weapons that he had, and he, I mean, he took us down for a game-winning drive.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: But if we take away uh one turnover and one missed call, we're we're up two scores, uh 10 points, seven points.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: So um I to wrap up that rant, uh, I think taking control of the game early really set the tone, unfortunately, or lack thereof.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Sadly, I think that is a a huge theme of all of this that uh that that both of you are hitting on.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: This term of well, they were dictating what we could do.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: No one that has ever been a winner in the NFL has ever allowed the other team to tell them what they can and can't do.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: And so for you, like you're saying, grabbing the bull by the horns early and saying, no, we're at home, we're gonna take care of business.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: You know, Bengals games, even though the last two years have been super frustrating, most of the games have been very, very entertaining, but not entertaining on Sunday.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: And I think that was the frustrating piece.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Those penalties definitely interrupted the uh the entire flow.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: But like both of you are saying, you get rid of these mistakes, you do the fundamentals.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Jacksonville now is looked at as one of the two best teams in the AFC, and clearly we had every opportunity without our two best wide receivers on the field at the end of the game.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: Interesting to leave you with via Tom Brennerman, good old Tom Brennerman, via mom, good old Carolyn Burgs for sharing this with us.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Teams that throw the ball 40 times a game have only won 23% of the time.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: When they throw 50 times, they lose even half of that amount.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: So you're one in 10 chance to win the game when you're throwing 50 times.
- 9:42SPEAKER_02: And so second down, David, offense.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: What are you fixing?
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Um, I think we've uh discussed it.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: My big, my big change that will likely not happen um is just getting damn uh pitcher involved more.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: Um I would love for Zach to mix things up, aka handoff play calling to pitcher.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Um defenses know what we're doing based upon personnel in the field.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: So if we can throw a wrinkle in every now and then, um just show them something new, allow the defense not to get comfortable.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Um, we're pretty much giving them our our playbook at the at the start of each game.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: So um, and I and I think the running game has a lot to do with it, but I would like to see us game plan for defenses.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: If they have a strong front, okay, let's maybe let's do some screen passes or something that simulates a run game.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Um, or if we know we can throw all over them, then okay, we can throw all over them and game plan for that.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: But it's going under center, yes, we have to do it.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and we have to mix in the run game, but we can still be creative with with that run game.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: So scheming or the team specifically, not just saying, okay, we need to have more running plays um to exploit the weaknesses of the of the defense, I would say.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: But um I think Zach mentioned in the press conference, uh, I think it was Monday.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: He was like, Yeah, we're still trying to find out who the offense is this year.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: But to me, we've had the same offense for six, seven years, same personnel.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: We know exactly who we are on offense.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Uh defense, sure, we're still figuring out, but offense, we know who we are.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Um, so that that statement's not very comforting.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: So I think we just need to scheme up for the team specifically.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Um, and if we're not running the ball in ways to simulate a run play, even if it is a dump pass or something like that.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: So um mixing it up a little bit, get pitch in there and uh simulate some run plays to keep the defense from uh jumping all over us.
- 11:57SPEAKER_02: Dan Pitcher called the plays in the preseason, and I know it was second and third and four strings, gonna be heavy on the run game, but you saw how comfortable the quarterbacks looked.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: I think that first game, Josh Johnson got hit quite a bit.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And then all of a sudden, in that second game, those two guys barely got hit and were able to move around and again be creative.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: Imagine doing that with our weapons.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: If we've been this successful, being this predictable and this obvious and this easy to prepare for, imagine, like you said, if you throw some wrinkles.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Look, Zach is becoming that micromanager.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: I still think he is the appropriate CEO for the team, but it's time to relinquish that power.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Um Zach reminds me of when we were all in school and you had that group project, and you were on that team where you're like, oh great, everyone is like way smarter than me.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: And I don't have to sit there and smile, and yeah, you're awesome.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: I agree with that.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: You're awesome.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: That is what Zach's becoming, and it's embarrassing, and that's why he's such a target this week.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Brandt.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love what David's saying with the scheme.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, I would I would kind of uh build I build off of that really.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Um, kind of talk about specifically a skill set that needs to improve across the skill players on offense.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's really just being able to break tackles, yards after catch, like we are just not where we need to be to make life easier on the offensive line, on Joe.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, and and this is this is you know kind of bleeds over into my defensive thing with tackling.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Like other defenses are tackling, like they're just putting us on the ground.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: And that's that's a huge testament to a good defense.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: You got to put people on the ground.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: So offensively, we gotta we gotta be able to break a few tackles.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: And so I'm specifically talking about Chase Brown, Dante Myers.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: You know, Jamar is really good at it usually every year, but Jamar and T still, once they get back, they gotta be able to break tackles.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: And god forbid, Gasicki breaks something.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, it's not a bone, but just don't break break a leg or an arm, but break a tackle, buddy.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Like you're you're you're a solid player, like you can go up and get a ball, like you're you're playing great, but we need more forced miss tackles on this on this offense.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: So I don't know if that's just you know, getting a little bit more wiggle, being a little bit more physical with the ball in our hands, something, but fight for every yard, work for that yak.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, and so with that, I would specifically I love what I'm seeing from Dante Myers.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Like, I know there's been a few drops here and there, but I'm targeting him, you know, especially with Jamar Chase out probably this week.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Like, he needs to get targets.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Like, see what can happen with that kid getting the ball, get the ball in his hands, and I think we can get some explosives if we just give him a few more chances.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: So that's what I would really be focusing on, uh, with the skill players and the offense as a whole.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: I absolutely love that term forced missed tackles.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: We're not making it difficult for their defenses at all.
- 15:20SPEAKER_02: One thing that I will add to that, uh, I was in Idaho last week and had the opportunity uh to actually see one of my favorite bosses of all time.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: The guy, shout out Caleb McKenzie.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: The guy's like 6'8, 300 pounds.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: He looks exactly what you think Idaho looks like.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Hands like Eric Law, big old grisly uh dude, just a great guy.
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: But I both loved him and I was scared to death of him.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: I knew he had my back, but I also knew I didn't want to let him down.
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: And Joe Burrow is the greatest quarterback we've ever had in the building.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: But I heard Tom Brady this week talking about how he could not stand Belichick at first in New England because he would call him out in front of the team, but quickly realized not only was it the best thing for him, but it also was the best thing for the team.
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: Because if Belichick would call out the greatest quarterback of all time in public, exactly.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: He can come after anybody.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: And I question who uh is pushing Burrow because Burrow's been playing fantastic, uh, but again, we're seeing in these critical moments when you're throwing 56 times a game, that one mistake gets blown up even worse.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: And so, Zach, it's time to pull out your Bill Belichick-esque.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: And I think that happens by buffering and putting a little Dan pitcher in between, calling the plays and bringing some coaching to Burrow because Burrow will embrace that.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: So third down, Brandt, how to one defensive fix.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: I know you got a hundred.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: You guys probably already know what I'm gonna say on this one, but uh I was David.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I was I was texting away to Mike and Brian like immediately after the game, but I was like, I'm done with the battle experiment.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: Like the inconsistencies, I I think you know, we're in year four.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, I know his first year he didn't get a lot of run, but uh when he's gotten time, like it's still the same old story.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: So I'm just I'm done with the inconsistencies, I'm done with the the missed tackles, third and eighteen, uh, you know, to to start the uh the the Jaguars drive.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Um, you just gotta put people on the ground.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: To me, that is the one like fundamental skill as a safety.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: If if you're what are you looking for in a safety?
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Number one is can they tackle and put people on the ground?
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: Because they're they're the last line of defense, right?
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: We don't want to give up touchdowns, we don't want to give up big explosive plays, and he's just not doing it at a consistent rate.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, so I'm ready to see what Russ Yeast and um I'm blanking on our boy's name, uh, but PJ Jules.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm ready to see what they can give us if uh Cook or Duggar can't get back this week.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, Cook might be able to kind of slide in there, but they they both looked pretty banged up after that Pittsburgh game.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: But yeah, battle uh so and I maybe I'm wrong on this, but when I when I rewatch the game, the effort from play to play just doesn't seem to be there.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: And it that's you can almost accept missed tackles if you know guys are going like 100 miles an hour and giving you everything, but the effort just isn't there.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, specifically the the run with uh Washington, the tight end against Pittsburgh.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I just didn't see the effort there on that on that play on the sidelines.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: And then you know, the the last drive for the Jags, we got to get the ball back, and they they throw the swing pack pass out to their guy, uh Parker Washington.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: And uh again, battle can't get off a block.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Like, and it just doesn't look like he's fighting to get off the block.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, we just concede too much.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: So battle.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm sorry, I'm done with the he's gotta earn it back to for me.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's what I would be doing.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: I know you know the question's been raised to Al and and Zach this week, but I'd feel a little differently than they feel.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Uh Zach is definitely, I text this, I think, to David and probably to you and Brian as well, but I'm really getting tired of listening to Zach talk in these press conferences because it's starting to sound like a politician where we are seeing exactly what Brant was talking about, and then you are telling us we we don't understand.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: And that is not the case.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: You cut Keyshawn Williams last week because he didn't feel a punt properly.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: Now, granted, we didn't need to make some roster moves on the on the receiving uh with the within the receiving room as well, and so that did add to it, but I think it sends the same message to the defense that this effort's not good enough.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: All you need to do, the one missed tackle of all of them, was on Chris Rodriguez's touchdown.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: Tell me if that was an effort or not.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: It was pathetic, it's embarrassing.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Nick Sabin didn't teach that kid how to do that.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: That was embarrassing and good for Chris Rodriguez scoring, coming back home to uh to Kentucky slash Cincinnati, but that is absolutely embarrassing and cannot have that.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: I think it would send a message to the team that this is not good enough and we want somebody else.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: And guess what?
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: We'll do it again next week.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: If you don't tackle and you don't hit, we'll find somebody else, Dave.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I'll definitely piggyback off your guys' comments and brand specifically with uh battle.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: You want to root for the guy so bad so bad.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: He I think I texted you, Mike, he's this year's CTB.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, no matter what he does, he just squirts.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: And he just does it again, miss tackle.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: Um, so yes, yes, I definitely agree.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: But this was a hard question for me to kind of wrap my brain because the defense is better than last year.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Uh we're not middle of the pack yet, but we moved up about 10 spots or so, 23rd, 22nd in the league, which is heading in the right direction, and that's what we asked for.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Um, they got stops last week, uh late in the game, to get the ball back to us and give us an opportunity to win.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Um, so they made plays when they need to there.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: But I think if I could change one thing, it would be kind of a two-part.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: I would play Shamar Moore.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm not the biggest uh Schmart Stewart fan, but first round pick, let's see what he can do.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Um, they say he's healthy, and I think that would work to our benefit because teams now understand they can't run up the middle on us.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: So now they're breaking it to the outside and they're getting big runs.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: There was two or three big runs called back due to holding in Pittsburgh, but if those don't get Called that's two touchdowns, and the same thing happened in the Jag game as well.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: That was called back.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: So they're they're able to get around the edge.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I think Hal's good.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: I think uh Murphy's good, but let's let's get Shamar in there for rotation to see what he can do.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Speed on the outside, disrupt a little bit to to stop those big runs from happening.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: Um because those big chunk plays, 30, 40 yards, they they change, they flip the field, they flip the field.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Um, so I I my my implementation this week would be to give Shamar some some more reps to see what we have at least so we know the direction we're gonna proceed.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Love that.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: And I don't understand again, if you're gonna draft a guy in the first round and you're and we know he looks lost out there, but he's athletic.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: And so, like David's saying, let's give him a chance if we're struggling on the outside.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Hey, they're gonna be coming outside, get ready to protect the run on the outside.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: To kind of echo that, I'm gonna cheat and say play up tighter.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: How many times, Brant, have you texted literally before the play is even and where are you?
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Why are we so far off the ball?
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Again, if we're gonna give up these passes to the tight ends and the running backs, it starts at the line of scrimmage and being more physical at the line of scrimmage, at least chipping them, at least being up close, at least making it difficult back to the offensive side, making it difficult on offense for the defense to tackle us.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: How about we make it difficult for their offense to get the ball by knocking them off schedule?
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: And so love to see us be a little bit more aggressive.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: Even if we are undermanned, I'll take the chance versus these things happening, like those 30 and 40 yard chunk plays that you're saying.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: I'm starting to feel a little bit better.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: Feel like the therapy session has been good.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, but David, you're gonna be there live and in person and no pressure.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Yes, sir.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: Yes, sir.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Brant, Brian, and I have all been to games this year.
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: We came away with a W.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: You're headed down to South Beach, you're headed to Miami, long way.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: Holy cow! From the desert to South Beach.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: What wire done on Sunday?
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, we're excited.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I'm going down there with uh Jimmy from Kingpin Barbecue as well.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: So we'll be down there.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, gonna go do the whole tailgate everything, and it's gonna be good.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be good.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: So um group you're tailgating with.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: It's called Fans of Sensei.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: Um and they they do tailgates for all the away games.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: They're going to Madrid.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: I think they did Houston this year, Miami.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Um, they about four or five, uh five or six different cities that they go to.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Um, they even set up plane tickets, hotels, and ticket packages.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: Um, so you just purchase the package and go down there.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: So um we've done that, and then we do the tailgate.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Um, all you can eat, all you can drink.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: So it's it's good.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but my key to victory treat this game.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: I want to be aggressive.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't care about their record.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: I want to treat them like they're 4-0 versus 0-4.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, I want to be a shark with blood in the water, attack, don't let up, no mercy, um, to really, really set the tone for our team.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Um, we might be a little bit banged up.
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: I think we'll have oddly enough, I think Jamar might play.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: But even if he doesn't, um, I think we have the weapons to mix it up.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Um, but I just want to attack.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: I want to set that tone all four quarters um to really show regardless of who we're playing, we're not gonna play down to our competition.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: They bigles are great at playing up to their competition.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: They play the Chiefs, it's gonna be a close game.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: But then they go play the Browns who won three games this year and look like world beaters.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: So um I want that mentality to just all four quarters, attack, attack, attack.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: And I think with that, we'll be able to pull out the win.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Love that approach.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: We've got to treat them like they're it is 4-0.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Brant was talking earlier before the podcast.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Sadly, this is a definitely a must-win game.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: Please send our love to Jimmy and uh safe travels to you guys, and of course, to our boy Derek down there in Florida.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Gotta get the sharks of the sharks.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: We need to get the sharks away from Derek.
- 26:28unknown: Derek.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: Brand, why are we winning Sunday?
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Uh so we win Sunday if we come out firing, uh, you know, with the attitude, exactly like David's talking about.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, they got some good young players.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: This is a team that's still gonna be hungry.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, you can't let them believe, right?
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: You can't let them have a couple plays go their way early, maybe get up on you early, and then start kind of feeding off that energy.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, and then coupled with that, you you just you can't have the turnovers, like you just can't give up easy, you know, easy possessions, especially any turnovers that would put them you know within scoring distance when they've really struggled to move the ball this year.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Uh Devin A.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Chain got hurt, who was arguably their best, you know, offensive weapon.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, so breaking off explosive plays is is going to be a little tough for them.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: You know, my other key, you know, defensive guy, like I said, uh, but Malik Willis, do not let him scramble all over the place.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Like, this is the game where I I think it preps you a little bit for Lamar, right?
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Uh Malik is is trying to find his footing as a passer still, uh, but he's not afraid to tuck it and just start scrambling all over the place.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: You can't let him feel start to feel comfortable and feel like, oh, I got green grass in front of me all day long.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: I can just do whatever I want.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: So the linebackers' safeties have to be aware.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: We got to keep contain on defense and just just get on top early, smother them.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Uh and the veterans need to take control of this game and show like hey, they got some young guys, they got some talent, but they can't compete with us yet.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: So I'm excited to see what Burrow comes back and does against a young secondary.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: And then uh, I'm real excited to see how our defensive line really stacks up against you know a pretty good young offensive line.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: Um, so they got a good young interior.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna we're gonna see you know what we're made of this game.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Uh agree with with both of that.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: Absolutely love that with coming out and firing and what the veterans do.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Jonathan Allen, Bozeman, Jamar, Cook, Duggar, Higgins.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Nobody practiced.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: That group did not practice.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: I want to see what guys are gonna step up.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: This is your opportunity.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Those guys will be back, they'll be healthy.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: We'll keep getting better every game.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: I want to see who wants to be a part of this uh run going forward.
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: Love that.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Appreciate both of you bringing the positive energy after another tough week.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Let's get a win.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: David, come home.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: You're only getting back on that plane if you bring a dub with you both are the best.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: Appreciate you filling in with our boy out.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: But you all know the drill.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: Houday all day.
