- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_02]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_02]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_02]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it until you see it.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_02]: All right, welcome back to the beat to you see it in her view recap where my co-host Claire Solly is joining us today to dig into the money savvy combo.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_02]: I have a test wear smith in our last episode If you haven't yet, listen to that one you missed out you missed the fuck out.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just gonna say it right now She's amazing.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: We had her back.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: We're having Claire back Claire just in case you people don't remember You being part of the precaps like a year and a half ago and from your amazing episode who are you?
- 1:09[SPEAKER_02]: What do you rock at?
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: I am Claire Solly.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I rock it being me right now
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: That's the best answer.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: No one ever gives that.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think you know, it's funny.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I'm like I have nothing super exciting like publicly going on But I've got a lot of like internals stuff happening.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: I rock just being in general cheerleader for anybody I come across and feeling free to
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: talk about money widely so I'm actually like this podcast or this this episode really got me excited.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm excited to be here and talk about it.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm bonus.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here in Vegas with you recording.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: In like I'm across the desk for you.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: I know it's really fun.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: That's why she's got breath.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: Lovely masculine background.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: So you guys clear is that you're visiting and we have these recaps to do because I was in Sacramento on Tuesday and I was like, Hey, I have to do a little bit of work.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to work with me?
- 1:59[SPEAKER_02]: And that is the like, just the testament to her and also like my amazing skills that manipulating people to work alongside.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: But it was a total arm twist.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm not going to lie.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was like walking in through the door.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, can I see the studio?
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'll say like, but the divine time and of these two episodes that we're recording together this one in next week, because like their topics, I think, that you'd actually really be interested in.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: Another Brad would be interested in the money one.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: He absolutely loved his test, but also the skin care one.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean two more perfect episodes for me.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: They're we're not so yeah, I agree.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well today you guys is March 5th 2026 and it's named tag day.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: So on the first Thursday in March, which is on March 5th this year, duh You guessed it wearing name tags on this day people become more human and pay more attention to the people who pass by them or who they pass by every day With over seven billion people in the world, it can be easy to fill alone and small name tag day allows everyone to be in the spotlight a little
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: On name tag day, you're not a nameless joe passing by in the neighborhood.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: Instead, when you pass by, everyone knows your name and kicks with you, which is the whole aim of name tag day.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: So, Claire, are you gonna wear a name tag today?
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: I love this.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I actually absolutely will.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I'm a horrible at names.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's my negative superpower.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I try really hard to remember people's names.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, in our society, you tell people your name once when you introduce yourself to them, and then you don't know it again.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: I've called people by the wrong names so many times, but the tricky thing is like, where do you wear your name tag?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I love where do you wear it?
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: I like to wear my own like down on the hip.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm like a giant, so my hip is like everyone's eyeliner.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like it messes up like, unless you have like a really cute one, like the hello my name is, sticker like messes up.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like your your top half so many top oh my hair is all over it just peels it right off and then also like depend on the material of your top ladies I may so I kind of wish that like this maybe I should have a name tag that's magnet and I can just put it any like you know what I mean so I can use every year
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I am someone who is like, oh, I'm going to put it down on my hip, but then when you if you're sitting for the meeting, you know, like, that's a problem.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: So I, I end up putting on my bag as if that's helpful.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not because it's now that I think about it.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: So I probably am the reason why this namejack digs this because I'm really good at remembering faces of people.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_02]: I can remember like when we work together in retail,
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: I remember what people bought, yeah, I can remember when we saw them last.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: I remember who they bought the gift for, and I cannot remember their name.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: It takes a few times, and so I'm very aware of this, and people like it's a choice.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, I don't think you understand that like the fact that I can remember everything you said to me.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'll say people, I'm like, oh, I remember you, but I don't remember your name.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, oh, it's just when we met two years ago at this time, like, oh, that's right.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_02]: It was in DC, you had so-and-so with you, and they look at me like, I'm a crazy person, because I can remember the details of the event, but not your name.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe this is my day, maybe it's your day.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so it's not too late.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: If you're listening to this in the evening, go put your name tag on before you go to the bar.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: Why not?
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so you guys, we are days away from going to Poland.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll be in Poland for a few days.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: I guess it's like the 20th or the 22nd.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: So you should come with Karen freshman and I'm don't know what I'm coming back as I was talking to my friend Claire, like I'm really aiming to travel.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: Like I combine the travels and it might be like 2028.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: So, XXLL.co-sash-polland,
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: That I'm going to go to technically I'll be in Bruges, but we've been saying Brussels.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, same country, just a difference.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: But it's at L's studio Pila Tiles, Booth Care and Freshman, L's and my friend Ignacio, we all study with Jake Grimes together.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: That one's almost sold out.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's exxl.co-brussles, but yes, we'll be in Bruges.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: And then after a second honeymoon in France, Brad and I will be at POT London that is almost sold out and at the time that this episode is dropping, you can still get the 10% off that ends like literally next week.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_02]: So XXLL.io slash POT.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: At the time we're recording, I have a few spots left in my Sunday workshop and just because London is different than Poland, doesn't mean that I'll get there any sooner.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 5:54[SPEAKER_02]: you're gonna wanna go.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then when we come back, we have spring training.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: So if you are piquirious, pulized, curious, or your advanced practitioner, who's just struggling with some exercises, you're gonna wanna be in that week-long training, you wanna go to opc.me slash events, is where you wanna go, because that is where we are having.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of fun, and if you're on the events list and you get, you'll never miss the early bird, you'll miss, you'll get all the bonuses, so go there.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: Before you get into this recap, Claire, you're taking over the questions the next two weeks.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: So what do you want to ask me?
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: I am.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I noticed that we're at 650 episodes.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Like, wow, how did that happen?
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's what the question is.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, that was too easy.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: But since this is the be it pod, what is your next big be it item, Leslie?
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, there's a few.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: I can't tell you guys just yet.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: We're kind of like, they're not public yet, but while I'll tell you what that is, public and you'll actually experience on the show, I am being it to I see it as a solo podcast.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, so don't worry, and everybody's not going away.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to reduce how many we have.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: We did a habits series, which was a longer series.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: And it was combined with guest episode.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: And then I did a week about burnout.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: And then a week about self love.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: The self love one was the week of Valentine's Day.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's appropriate.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: And so I want your topics that you want me to nerd out about you guys.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: You can go to be at pod.com slash questions and just so topics for less than you talk about.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: I want to take a topic and then do two episodes on it.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: So Tuesday, Thursday.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: So we're not going to change your cadence of when your episodes come.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: But I feel like you couldn't have, like I would have didn't choose to rest at you to a solo episode ever.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: We first started the pod.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: And now that we're six hundred something episodes, then and I do all these FYFs.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like,
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm ready to like take on maybe one, one week or two weeks a month of just like owning the podcast myself and giving you the information from my perspective and hopefully holding space for topics you want to know about and that's a little scary for me because I won't be able to let someone else's like shine and then like bounce off of them I have to like shine to myself.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: I just kind of want to reiterate what you're saying because I think it's a really, really important for all your listeners, especially this is the be-at-pod and something you and I've talked about incessantly in our lives, so you've done 650 episodes.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: Five, I want to say it's like been five and a half years, almost six years that you've been doing this.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you're just now ready to start out on your own.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, everybody who's listening, you don't have to take that long, but you also can take that long.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then just want to reiterate too, if you have a question, Texas at 1, 3, 1, 0, 9, 0, 5, 5, 5, 3, 4, or submitted at bitpod.com backslash questions.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I want your topics and what your questions, what your wins, they all go
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe the questions will inspire a podcast series, but I just, I know, I think I was highly, buddy, sooner than before, but like, it's a big deal to change the how you run your show.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it means I have to like tell everyone on the team what I want to do and then they have to like adjust everything and like, you know, it used to be a little like tugboat that I was doing this business.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: And now it's kind of more like a yacht.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: And I have to like it's it's harder to turn it got around because harder to turn it around.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's not a cruise ship or not that big yet, but it is a you have to be a little
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there's a little talk votes in the out there.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, should we talk about Tessworth Smith?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think we should.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: Tess is an accredited financial counselor, trademark, and the founder of wealth with Tess, a platform dedicated to financial education for women.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: She teaches an approachable investing and money fundamentals that support independence and long-term security.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Tessa's work centers on helping women build and enough financial stability to have options later in life, including the ability to step back from work and retire with confidence.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: Mm.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: I really am so glad she's in my life.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: We've had her on the pop before, and we just like obsessed with her.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: I've done her course actually.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think that like, we need more women like her talking about.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: because she does it in such an honest way and she's vocal about what's going on in our world and how it's affecting like your money.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_02]: Not rich people's money and we've been like kind of conditioned I think that like rich people know what to do when they get money.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: And so she's that on the pot that I really love.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_02]: She's like money is a tool.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's not either good or bad or evil.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a tool.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: And she really made the argument that like good people should actively seek to acquire more money because they make a bigger impact and donate to causes that you care about.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't agree more because
- 10:34[SPEAKER_02]: Look, there's a lot going on and we're like, what's my $20 going to do, but you know, if you have money that you are able to like,
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: extra of.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: You're more likely to give it to local causes that inspire you based on your own life experiences, maybe you donate to a local cause like we donate to the MSPCA because I want to adopt all the rescue dogs and I cannot and they're here and my money goes farther with them here.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's people right now who are needing like rent help or health care support and like if you have an extra $100, you can give it to people and so I think we should those of us who have a heart actually should be the ones with the money.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I think to sort of done like piggyback onto that thought to giving money, you have to decide if you want to see it in action or not.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like you, you give locally because you want to see it in action.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_01]: But some people want their money to go farther and they don't need to see it in action.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_01]: What do you care about?
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: What do you think?
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: Because I do think that sometimes we go, oh my god, what are people going to think that I'm not giving to like the environment or like the home, the they're, I had someone on
- 11:39[SPEAKER_02]: If you can take what you care about and you can give to that, whether it's time or money, you will see change and if someone else cares about something different and they focus on that.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think we especially as women feel this pressure that we have to care about all the cares.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: And you should have some empathy for all the cares, but also you'll you'll exhaust yourself and you're mind and then you'll be too busy to actually like go and acquire the wealth that gives you the independence and freedom to choose how you spend your money and who gets that money and I do think that like
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: We've been in a different place right now, if more people had some independence, beat due to finances, I think some people don't leave terrible jobs because, yeah, of money.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: And that means bosses can be abusive, and they can't.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's just different things that if we, if the well is one of them, yes.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: I know.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I don't know.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I, I really but I think we need to continue to remind ourselves that money is a tool.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, in my podcast with you way, way, way back when I'm sure your team will put it in the show notes.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: I want to say it's episode 19, sing a double digits, baby.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I was, I was early on, but I was the booze side of this, like money is energy.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: And it is a measure on the energy you was a human put into something that your company gives back to you.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: So you can use, you know, because we're not in that days of,
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: of goat trading up, you know, the goat that you farm for the milk that I need.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: So go back and listen to that podcast, everybody, that's your homework.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: But one thing I at loved and actually I kind of want to have two things.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take it.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_01]: I love that she said we're afraid it as women, especially to talk with our friends about money.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I think we need to like because we are afraid of money because we've been trained to be a afraid of money and not spending it or spending it when we have it.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, so we as women kind of are trained to go between face and famine because we don't talk about what people have and bonus were also used at the Instagram version of everybody.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: So like
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: I, you know, I'm jealous of like, and like, you're one of my best friends.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I tell you, I'm like, I'm jealous of your lifestyle and you're like, girl, you were seeing the tip of the iceberg.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: And, but like, well, then we'll talk about things and we'll talk about, I mean, and it's sometimes not directly bank account related.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: But we'll talk about things like,
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: you just mentioned you found this great person you've been wanting and you, you know, you bargain chopped for it because you wanted this purse.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I wanted this purse, it's not cheap.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, well, I don't want to spend that much, but I want to buy it.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm just going to wait and be patient.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I think like, I do think I've had friends who are like, because they care.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, well, how much was it?
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I'll tell you, because if you want this bag, you should know, don't pay more than I paid.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: Now you can get it.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's not at all like what we value versus how much we have and and I think one thing too that she said was like don't overspend what you make and I think you know I think there's a little bit of gapage in there, but if you're really trying to control yourself like yeah, make sure that you and you can pay close to what your credit cards are there so many tools
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: now.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like there's, and I think that are different than what we had when we were growing up, which was just like a piece of paper and a budget, you know, like a checkbook to your member.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I could do in the checkbook and doing the math.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that like, you know, it's true, especially because in our lifetimes, our moms finally had permission.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: to get their own bank account in their own loans, you know, in their own credit cards, like that's crazy that in our lifetimes.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_02]: So it's it's clear that the education about that, but if people ask me, you know, about different things, like I'm very honest, like, you know, we got, you didn't know I had a new car and it's a car that I wanted for over 10 years.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I literally said, you know, like this is a right off.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I totally thought you borrowed a car from a friend when you picked me up at the airport I was like, how did you borrow your dream car from a friend?
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's amazing.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean like because I don't like I don't put a ton of of of the stuff on the internet Because people will make up a different story about it and like I
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: But I am really honest with in our coaching business will tell people like this is why you should That your business up this way because these things are right off so you'll get these kinds of things Like the reality is the rich got richer because they know how the loopholes are right and like am I a fan of like a flat tax for everybody So there's no right off but yeah because I think the world pies a better place and there will still be someone who finds a loophole for it But like I actually do want our my tax dollars to work for the people to don't have less
- 16:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I actually want to be like, yeah, this my tax money goes to the healthcare and the housing and the education of the people coming because like, like, it's just funny joke that I'm very much stuck on, but like, I don't, I don't have children.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_02]: So who is going to take care of me when I am older, right?
- 16:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like you now is going to take care of you when you're older, right?
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: So like, you know, I need to have money for that.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: And I also want people who are not me to be educated in a way that they could support me when I'm in need.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want someone to look like, you know what I mean.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_02]: So I think like,
- 16:36[SPEAKER_02]: I wish more people thought like that.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: I do think that anyone listening to this podcast does care about how others are.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, yes, it's voting and yes, it's about all these different things, but also until the government actually works for the people, we women are more likely to spend our money in our communities and support other people.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: And so we need to understand how the game is played and use it.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe it means like,
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: figuring out, you know, maybe it's using like something like a rocket money to figure out where your money is going.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: Then they don't sponsor the show, but if someone knows them, I'll take a commercial ad from them.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take that money.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't give it to the SPC, but like, I think if you don't know where your money is going yet, that's the first place to start, you know.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: And to start the conversation, this kind of goes into my second point or my second, you know, love it, be it item from this.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think in like one of the conversation starters that you can have with your friends, it's easier than hey, Leslie, how much do you make annually?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: Because like that's also a touchy subject and sometimes we don't want to share that, but maybe start talking about the economy and the stock market being
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: different things and talk to your friends about like what they're interested in and if they invest and how they invest because she mentioned a whole bunch of things for a one king Roth IRA, a regular I-Ram.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: She also said the thing about an investing for her her niece.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: You can do that for yourself
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: You can throw $100 in a rocket money account and a currency account, just a regular savings, a CD, like start talking to your friends about how they make their money work for them, and if they're not, like find a buddy and like start going down and share things, like less than the night, we shuttle things back and forth to each other all the time about like business and how to invest in things like that, and like it's not mind-blowing earth shattering, and
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: But we do talk about money, and I'm so glad I have you to be able to talk about money openly.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's so great.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I agree.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: Same.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like the thing is, you who told me, because, like, I work for Equinox, and they told me, in my benefits package, there's a 401k.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a program, and they did, like, some sort of matching up to some amount of money.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: And at my male trainer was like,
- 18:47[SPEAKER_02]: Do you, are you doing the 401k?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, oh, no, I don't really know what to do.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, you just say you want it.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_02]: Like, and I'll just take the money out.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: And like, I didn't know at no female around me had told me to do it.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying that they're at fall.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I could have done the research.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: But like, sometimes we all have so much going on.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: And so like, making sure that our friends know these things, or at least your colleagues.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, hey, yeah, did you hear that they're doing a match on the 401k?
- 19:13[SPEAKER_02]: I uped my four, like, announced that
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: everyone wins by the way, everyone wins when everyone wins when when you're when when that happens and retirement does the fact to solve.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's just going to, if you're if your family members don't have to set up for retirement, it's going to negatively affect you as someone either they're going to need more from you or they're going to be working forever and you're going to have less time with them.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that's important.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: So that would happen.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: And then
- 19:34[SPEAKER_02]: because I have friends and clients like my business of just teaching people who obviously people have private sessions, flies.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: They have a little bit more money.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: I let them talk about what they were doing when they were talking about investing or they're talking about their stocks or down.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_02]: I would go tell me like tell me more how that works.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: Like I just got curious and I learned from them.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: I learned how
- 19:54[SPEAKER_02]: one of my friends bought money from our parents and she did the right way so that she'd like pay a loan back and then she was able to use that in her taxes to write some stuff off.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: Like yeah, you people will share with you but sometimes we're not asking the questions.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_02]: We just hear them talk about oh I'm buying this house or like I got like I had a friend who's like oh yeah, I'm doing I'm doing a remodel and I was like oh that must be like I didn't really like how long could you save up money for that right?
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: She's like oh I did this he lock and I was like oh my god what's a he lock right?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know these things.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a first time
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: What I know is everything fucking is on on us to fix the guess what it's not because we had the AC go down and because our neighbors mentioned something that they had we had checked the right box when it came to our homeowners insurance.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: When our AC broke that motor's $3,000 and Brad was able to do x, y and z with the homeowners insurance and guess what?
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: And so we would have been out $3,000 that we didn't need to be.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I think this is where like talking with your friends, talking with your neighbors, asking what they're doing.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: If they don't want to tell you, you'll find out.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: They're by language will shift.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: They'll get really weird.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: And then you'll know, interesting.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: They don't want to talk about that.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: I don't have to have a judgment towards it, but I'll find someone else.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'll agree.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_02]: Women, let's talk about money more.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about money more.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: OK, all right.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: So let's talk about those beat action items.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: What bold, executable, intrinsic, or targeted action items?
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Can we take away from your combo?
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: In preparing or weathering volatility stock market crashes and building substantial wealth, she advised, many invested in the stock market should be funds you do not need for the next three to five years.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: And it's your fun money guys, organized finances by their intended timeline and purpose, clearly separate short term needs, hash savings from long-term goals.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: and keep more money in cash, such as high yield savings account, earning it on certain times, the service to purposes, it provides a safety net to cover expenses, without being forced to sell investments, and it prevents emotional and panic driven decisions.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I have like a rule of thumb, because I live in New York City, I have two months of rent saved up, because you never know what's going to happen.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: No, I think that that's wise and thanks for sharing what you're doing.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think like, you know, Tess was honest on the pod.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: Just like, yeah, I'm having, I actually have more cash on hand now.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's a little more uncertain right now.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: And when we were recording this, we're like, it'll be interesting to see when this comes out like what's going on.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I asked her, like, I DMed her and I said, hey, your episode's coming out in March.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, is there anything you want to add?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: And she's like, I really stand by all the things that I said.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: And she, and so one of the things that she's done to be at actionizes, it's just like, no one cares about your money more than you do.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_02]: no one cares.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: No one cares about your money more than you do.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: So if you care about your money, she actually said to go like go I want you to go with the show notes.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: She has a free guide and it's been 20 minutes reading it.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: It takes 20 minutes and just pick one X action step.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like honestly, I think we overwhelm ourselves by all the different things that there is to do, the CDs, the 401k's.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: But like if you start with like
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: one thing, and for those of you who are employed, like, is there a 401k?
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: Are you maxing out at, I know that they've made changes to, like, how much you can max out?
- 22:50[SPEAKER_02]: So are you maxing out to the new changes?
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I believe everyone should just have an accountant because these tax laws are still freaking ridiculous.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: And your accountant needs to know what your goals are.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: So you might need to sit down.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe your next action.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_02]: So it was like, what are my money goals?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: Like,
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: you know I'm 43 so my goals now are different than my goals when I was 33 right so what does that look like are they understanding you know Brad and I've been very vocal like we talk to our countens all the time we will be about went to buy our car we're very specific about like okay if we buy it this week for the next week because it was at the end of the year versus beginning of the year like what are the risks and losses and pros and cons and I think that that's important stuff so obviously we work for ourselves versus being employed and you know it with chat to be tea you could literally ask it okay this is who I am this is how much I make
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: This is what's going on like what do you think like I mean obviously I would I would research anything it says but like there's tools right now to take action so you can be educated one step at a time you know Yeah and to kind of piggyback on that you guys didn't talk about this but one thing that came to mind when you were talking is if you're got is saying one thing and your accountant or your investment person is telling you another go get a second opinion
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: Just like a doctor, it's okay to get a second opinion if you're not feeling like something might be off.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: And you don't have to invest with somebody to go doing that.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Just go call somebody up and say, hey, I got this advice.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: They may or may not be able to help you and so you try to have to try a second opinion.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: Bye.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: You might, and also you should, because if they're like, if your gut is going, they seem a little shady, then move on.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: Let's listen to your gut with that.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: And in fact, Tess is first episode with us really talks about like finding those wealth people or how to do it yourself.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: So it just depends on like, you know, what your capabilities are.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_02]: I will say like Brad and I do have someone that we trust helping us because
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it'll be different now that way like I have help with the ADHD, but it just felt like a little bit more than we could take on in this particular moment.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: But they're very clear, very communicative.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_02]: We checked with, you know, tests is fees and all that stuff.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_02]: So we're making sure that we're not getting screwed over like, but so there's just different help out there.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: And you can also go to tests as a certain a sub stack that is free.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: Really?
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's free.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and signing up.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: I know me too because I like her honesty about everything I like her attitude I like she her you guys when she teaches you how to actually manage your own accounts You can literally just do it like I'm just I I have just have a problem with like starting new things sometimes And this is one of them.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: I obviously therapy will help but in an extra could be different, but where am I today?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: But you can do it like it's
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: I, but, well, I watched it.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I can do this right now.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I actually opened up my own high yield savings account without Brad, did myself, like, I'm so excited because that money is what's taking us on our second honeymoon, his and mine.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we, that was the goal of this particular account that we opened.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_02]: But she's such a good information.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to go to wealth with test.substack.com.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_02]: And you can grab it for free.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I, that's, that's
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the test is going to be super proud of you.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's amazing.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, because we should, again, back to what we first said, we should be in control of our money because nobody else cares.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I mean, that's very true.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so anyways, if we can't leave with anything, it's go take one piece of action on educating yourself about your money, a test has for you.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's all free out there.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then there's ways to invest if you want to know more.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm Leslie Logan, and I'm Claire Solie.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for joining us today.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: I hope you had fun with Claire and I.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: If you miss Brad, he'll be back in a couple weeks.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: Don't worry.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not going anywhere, but we are so grateful for you.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_02]: And I can't think of a better episode to share with a friend that our money episodes with tests and Claire.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: So you can listen to the woo one.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_02]: You can listen to the legit one.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_02]: You can listen to this update.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: Not that you're not legit.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: But I guess I actually said it.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: You can listen to the dry one.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_02]: Grounded, grounded, I don't know, I don't know, it's not, I think that like everything a moderation, including moderation, yeah.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll listen to both of them and then go take some action steps that work for you.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: And until next time, be it, tell you see it.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: Go do your homework.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_02]: Damn it.
