- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast. We'll try to keep
- 0:03Speaker 1: it as nice as we can, but you might hear
- 0:05Speaker 1: the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Don't tell Mom, Hello, and welcome to No Dribble.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Apparently this is episode twelve of series two. Time is
- 0:27Speaker 1: rushing bye. We have just had round four of the
- 0:31Speaker 1: sun Corps Supernepple season and someone me Carolyn rushing up
- 0:36Speaker 1: the tipping ladder. We'll talk about that soon. But I'm
- 0:39Speaker 1: in Sydney and again shouldered a shoulder with my comrade
- 0:43Speaker 1: in microphone.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Cop And when you say rushing, rushing, rushing, if you're
- 0:49Speaker 3: rushing up on rushing down sizzle.
- 0:53Speaker 1: And today again we have a very special exciting guest.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I don't we call you a guest anymore. I don't
- 0:59Speaker 1: like serious. Yeah, that's right. So Liz is off doing
- 1:04Speaker 1: something important today. We don't even really know what, but
- 1:07Speaker 1: she's just been reappointed as chair of Netball Australia. So
- 1:10Speaker 1: we'll talk about that. But we are very delighted to
- 1:12Speaker 1: have our dear friends so Gordian joining us.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Ye are thrilled, thrilled, tried to be back.
- 1:19Speaker 1: The sarcasm is a little you're a little tired, Dordy,
- 1:23Speaker 1: aren't you.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Ah?
- 1:25Speaker 5: Some might say menopausal. No, yeah, no, I'm a bit tired. No,
- 1:30Speaker 5: it's not menopausal. I am tired, it's all.
- 1:32Speaker 4: It's always tiring after a big weekend of Eddie. Monday
- 1:35Speaker 4: mornings are hard. I think last time we recorded, if
- 1:38Speaker 4: I am correct, it was a Tuesday, so it was
- 1:40Speaker 4: up and about. But Monday mornings a little doesn't get.
- 1:44Speaker 1: A day off. When's your day off? September?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Mostly Wednesday. We actually try to take a Wednesday. But
- 1:52Speaker 4: you know, just in season, Catherine, it doesn't stop.
- 1:55Speaker 3: It just yeah, you need to get one of these
- 1:57Speaker 3: hats off, so please, you've started to making roads into that.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah. That won't be till the end of season, though,
- 2:02Speaker 1: will it. So what did you do yesterday? Is this
- 2:05Speaker 1: a fever related thing or is it with your other
- 2:08Speaker 1: netball hats on?
- 2:10Speaker 5: No?
- 2:11Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, well a little bit of everything actually,
- 2:15Speaker 4: because one is the other is the other. So no,
- 2:17Speaker 4: sn Reserve started yesterday, which is really exciting, like I
- 2:20Speaker 4: love in sn reserves.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Tell me what that means, Well.
- 2:23Speaker 4: It's basically the underpinning competition from sun Corps Supernetwork. I'm
- 2:27Speaker 4: just not allowed to call it SSN reserves because Suncorp
- 2:30Speaker 4: doesn't cover.
- 2:31Speaker 5: It, so come on, get yeah SN reserves.
- 2:35Speaker 4: So yeah, all of the eight teams have a team
- 2:39Speaker 4: in it, yep, which is great, and they travel around
- 2:41Speaker 4: with the teams and play. So fever played Lightning on
- 2:44Speaker 4: Sunday morning at nine am.
- 2:46Speaker 3: So can I ask you a question, how does that
- 2:48Speaker 3: work with reserves and stuff? Because we had a reserves
- 2:53Speaker 3: game before the Swifts game on the weekend, So how
- 2:58Speaker 3: does that work with players that don't get it court?
- 3:00Speaker 4: Yeah, So it's a great question, Kat, and just quickly
- 3:03Speaker 4: because it's such a long conversation. However, the way that
- 3:07Speaker 4: SN reserves is at the moment is it's not the
- 3:11Speaker 4: it's not pure as such, right, So it's the competitive
- 3:15Speaker 4: balance at times might be slightly out. We're just trying
- 3:17Speaker 4: to get a competition up and running. So you'll see
- 3:20Speaker 4: it happening at different venues. Sometimes it might be at
- 3:23Speaker 4: an SSN venue, other times it might be just at
- 3:26Speaker 4: your local training court. Sometimes you might have to buy
- 3:29Speaker 4: a ticket to it, sometimes you may not. Sometimes you're
- 3:32Speaker 4: entitled depending on when the game is that you can
- 3:34Speaker 4: release one of your SSN contracted athletes back in and
- 3:38Speaker 4: sometimes you can't assuming that if I have any reason. Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 4: so it's up to the clubs to determine who needs.
- 3:44Speaker 4: It's all for load management. So as by way of example,
- 3:47Speaker 4: on Sunday morning for the fever, the West Coast fever
- 3:51Speaker 4: dropped back Zoe Cransburg and Olivia Wilkinson and they were
- 3:54Speaker 4: both don managed time. And yeah, it varies per team,
- 3:58Speaker 4: right they competition standard is unbelievable.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Does this explain? I have a question. Where was Grace
- 4:05Speaker 1: White yesterday? Did she play beforehand? Did she plan in
- 4:08Speaker 1: the reserves beforehand?
- 4:10Speaker 3: No, she tweaked her ankle during the week, so she
- 4:12Speaker 3: was ruled out for the game. Briani said they could
- 4:14Speaker 3: have rushed her back, it wasn't worth it, Okay.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So they've given her the week off.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And then they brought Alie Smith in, who was going
- 4:20Speaker 3: to be out of the ten for that game. And
- 4:22Speaker 3: Alice Smith ends up on the court like crazy.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, she had a great I've had a few errant passes,
- 4:27Speaker 1: but otherwise a great game, I thought from Alie Smith's home. Okay,
- 4:30Speaker 1: thank you. That was one of my questions. I didn't
- 4:33Speaker 1: manage to arrive early yesterday because I always have a
- 4:36Speaker 1: massive parking housel out at Sydney Olympic Park and then
- 4:39Speaker 1: you got to line up for your gin. Well there
- 4:41Speaker 1: was no line. It was amazing, I mean, and I
- 4:43Speaker 1: was there in time, there in my seat. I'd almost
- 4:45Speaker 1: got through the gin before the before the first whistle,
- 4:48Speaker 1: but you were working hard.
- 4:51Speaker 3: I did look up and try and fine, you've got
- 4:52Speaker 3: the same seat, safe seats.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I love it. I did look up.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Briefly and have a look to see what you were
- 4:57Speaker 3: throwing back at the time that couldn't find you and
- 4:59Speaker 3: the seat you've read.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And why I had a little a little It wasn't
- 5:02Speaker 1: an incident. But there was a little girl sitting in
- 5:04Speaker 1: front of me yesterday. Maybe she was sort of she
- 5:07Speaker 1: about Dotty's age, I guess eleven or twelve, and she
- 5:09Speaker 1: had the big goal sign, and every time the Swift
- 5:11Speaker 1: scored a goal, which fortunately was quite regular, she'd put
- 5:14Speaker 1: it right up with her arms fully extended to maxim height,
- 5:17Speaker 1: which is great. But then she kept it up there
- 5:20Speaker 1: and like the game, you know, we're back. The Santa
- 5:23Speaker 1: Pass had started, so after a while I sort of thought, Okay,
- 5:25Speaker 1: she'll get bored of doing that and move on. And
- 5:28Speaker 1: then her parents gave her a snack and that sort
- 5:30Speaker 1: of took it off for a while. But then after
- 5:31Speaker 1: a while I just thought she went back to it
- 5:33Speaker 1: and back to it and say, I don't want to
- 5:35Speaker 1: scare this kid, but I just excuse me, do you
- 5:37Speaker 1: mind when when they're back in the in the centa
- 5:40Speaker 1: circle putting it down, and she didn't put the bloody
- 5:42Speaker 1: thing up again. I couldn't have been nicer, but I
- 5:44Speaker 1: scared the shit out of us. So sorry, I don't
- 5:47Speaker 1: I'm very happy for the goal sign to go up.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It's just I can't see the dead ball. So there
- 5:52Speaker 1: was a letter written.
- 5:53Speaker 5: I think that's something to do with it. You need
- 5:55Speaker 5: a boost. See.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Well, well, my friend Laura, who was of normal height,
- 5:59Speaker 1: was next to me and facing the same issue with
- 6:01Speaker 1: this girl's sister. So right, jam, but if there is,
- 6:06Speaker 1: if I can have a boost, why yes, that's what
- 6:09Speaker 1: it is.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Normal to wing attack, gold attack, gold offense, just not
- 6:17Speaker 4: a wing defense, right.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:19Speaker 3: The other disappointing thing about yesterday's game, No Patrick.
- 6:22Speaker 1: No, he was there. He was there all I saw.
- 6:26Speaker 1: There was only one time one of the other volunteers,
- 6:28Speaker 1: also doing an excellent job, came out and didn't even
- 6:30Speaker 1: have the mop. He just had a coloth And it's like, guys,
- 6:34Speaker 1: because I met Patrick.
- 6:35Speaker 3: The day before, Well, so do you remember Patrick. I
- 6:37Speaker 3: don't know if you listened to all the episodes.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Or not, but Patrick floor sweep.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So he was at the game again yesterday. But the
- 6:43Speaker 3: reason they only came out with the tower was because
- 6:46Speaker 3: it was a slipping ball, so the umpire called just for.
- 6:48Speaker 1: A tow to wipe the ball down and the floor.
- 6:50Speaker 3: But at that moment, the whole crowd looked to Patrick
- 6:53Speaker 3: because we wanted him to come out on court, and
- 6:55Speaker 3: this other lady from the other corner came and you
- 6:57Speaker 3: could hear the crowd just be like, oh.
- 6:59Speaker 5: Why everyone Patrick? Yeah, Patrick was there with mop, but
- 7:03Speaker 5: there was no sweat moments called as such on the court,
- 7:07Speaker 5: so he didn't get to come.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Out, not one single time.
- 7:10Speaker 3: But I did go and get a photo with him
- 7:11Speaker 3: at the start of the game and we had a
- 7:12Speaker 3: chat and I said to him, next time you come out,
- 7:14Speaker 3: you got to kind of do it like a round
- 7:15Speaker 3: off with one hand and your mop in the other.
- 7:18Speaker 1: What if he breaks his arm?
- 7:19Speaker 3: Though, no, but he did say that is so for children.
- 7:22Speaker 3: I have got a much better thing I could do,
- 7:24Speaker 3: I know, but.
- 7:25Speaker 1: He said he wouldn't surprise. Yeah, maybe he wouldn't be
- 7:27Speaker 1: allowed to do it, Swifts, not even for today. Come on,
- 7:30Speaker 1: New South Wales, Swifts. Let him do it for Mother's
- 7:32Speaker 1: Day next Sunday when we will be there. Yes, I
- 7:36Speaker 1: met Patrick on Saturday and another dribbler, the Lovely Pea,
- 7:39Speaker 1: at the at Erna at Eastwood Ride Netball Association at
- 7:43Speaker 1: meadow Bank Courts built on top of an old landfill,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but apparently we're getting some new courts soon. And yeah,
- 7:48Speaker 1: they came up and introduced themselves, which was great and
- 7:50Speaker 1: very much softened the blow of the twenty five eleven
- 7:54Speaker 1: loss that my players suffered. Yeah, what what on there?
- 7:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I have to coach everything at once
- 7:59Speaker 1: in our one hour training session today, and it's like,
- 8:03Speaker 1: I think you should probably start with shooting. No, we
- 8:06Speaker 1: need to start with passing. Oh, you can't even get
- 8:09Speaker 1: it to the shooting accuracy is okay, So that's not
- 8:15Speaker 1: the problem. It's not like we're down there and then
- 8:17Speaker 1: the shooters are letting it down. It's like, Okay, we
- 8:19Speaker 1: do good stuff and then we immediately give it back,
- 8:22Speaker 1: so we take it and then it say, oh, I
- 8:23Speaker 1: feel bad about that. Let's give them the ball straight back.
- 8:25Speaker 1: So can we just be a little bit selfish with
- 8:27Speaker 1: the ball? Girls? Keep it to ourselves so I don't know,
- 8:29Speaker 1: we're back to basics today.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Oh the art of coaching?
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah, can you pop over and deal with my under
- 8:36Speaker 1: twelves please, because seriously they need.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Some answer to that Karen, And that is never no
- 8:45Speaker 4: coach kids, I've never ever ever liked you two, like
- 8:49Speaker 4: as captain you are. I've never coached, not even cling.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Never is that coaching kid like a young netball team. Yeah, well,
- 9:00Speaker 4: at least when you coach clinics, you're in for an
- 9:02Speaker 4: hour and you take your money and run. That's why
- 9:04Speaker 4: you've got But no, no, no, oh god, I couldn't.
- 9:09Speaker 4: I couldn't do it. I don't have the patience tolerance
- 9:12Speaker 4: for it.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a challenge. I reckon you do you just
- 9:15Speaker 1: haven't tried. And the delightful girls not going? Hey, can
- 9:23Speaker 1: we talk about Liza?
- 9:23Speaker 3: You mentioned it, but while she's not here, can we
- 9:26Speaker 3: just pump some serious air in her tales? Because she
- 9:29Speaker 3: did get reappointed as the chair and I.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Texted her and said, do I congratulate you.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Or not, because I'm not really sure that this is
- 9:38Speaker 3: a good thing, because while she's doing incredible things for
- 9:41Speaker 3: the sport, it is a huge.
- 9:44Speaker 1: It is and I say it's hard to get lunch
- 9:46Speaker 1: with her nowadays.
- 9:47Speaker 5: It's not. It's not.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's not a great thing all round. But yeah, thanks Liz,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you're doing good job. She's doing an incredible job.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Though honestly, do you know what else it means is
- 9:57Speaker 4: it means that Catherine, for the best part, you and
- 9:59Speaker 4: I have to continue having professional conversations with her until
- 10:04Speaker 4: she finishes in the job. Well like ninety percent of
- 10:08Speaker 4: the time I talked to Liz, it's on it. It's
- 10:10Speaker 4: now on a different y.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Yes, that's true. I don't do that to it because
- 10:14Speaker 3: I know she doesn't want to deal with that. When
- 10:16Speaker 3: she talks to me, she just you know, I just
- 10:19Speaker 3: talked stupid to her. And just bring it down to
- 10:21Speaker 3: the people, you know, the Catherine people. That's nice, just
- 10:25Speaker 3: away from that mindset.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You're a giver, that's what you are. But I will
- 10:28Speaker 1: say so. Liz was reappointed as chair of Netball Australia
- 10:31Speaker 1: this week. There are two new directors, Vivek Bartier who
- 10:34Speaker 1: has been involved with network for a long time with QBE.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think he's an amazing human and I'm so excited
- 10:40Speaker 1: to see he's on the board. Yep. And Louise Airs,
- 10:42Speaker 1: who has also been involved with netbellh for a long
- 10:44Speaker 1: time through the an Z sponsorship of the comp and
- 10:47Speaker 1: the Netball Australia has reduced debt. They've announced their third
- 10:51Speaker 1: consecutive operating surplus. So I think we have to give
- 10:53Speaker 1: kudos to other people in Netble Australia because some of
- 10:56Speaker 1: them started obviously before Liz. But it's like this is
- 10:59Speaker 1: an organization getting it shipped together and moving forward, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: you know, I think it's really exciting that Liz has
- 11:06Speaker 1: got another year at least there.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a big year too, Like it's a massive year,
- 11:13Speaker 4: like when you think about the things that the decisions,
- 11:15Speaker 4: particularly what they're calling SSN two point zero and so
- 11:20Speaker 4: the broadcast deal comes up for SSN and the forecasting
- 11:24Speaker 4: of what the league structure could look like in terms,
- 11:27Speaker 4: and I know that a lot sits with Stacy West,
- 11:29Speaker 4: but it's around Liz and the board's direction around you know,
- 11:33Speaker 4: what sort of model do we want to have and
- 11:35Speaker 4: who's going to own what and we're like, I reckon,
- 11:39Speaker 4: it's a fascinating it's a fascinating time to be the bosses.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And throw into the mix of World Cup.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Next year, they're doing the big Olympics, Like there's just
- 11:48Speaker 3: so much on their plates, but there's there's a level
- 11:51Speaker 3: of I think people feel feeling secure and happy with
- 11:56Speaker 3: where Nepple's at because Liz is there, right, it's amazing.
- 12:00Speaker 1: More steady hand on the tiller.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so I don't know, she would never blow
- 12:05Speaker 3: sunshine up her own, but I think we need to
- 12:09Speaker 3: have a moment just to I think, as you say,
- 12:11Speaker 3: all of them, not just Lizello's, but she's certainly doing
- 12:14Speaker 3: an enormous amount of work.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good news for the game, absolutely big time. Now, Gordi,
- 12:23Speaker 1: did you get a little delivery during the week.
- 12:27Speaker 5: A little delivery?
- 12:28Speaker 4: I've got an enormous delivery during that I got a
- 12:31Speaker 4: very exciting delivery.
- 12:33Speaker 5: Do you know what.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Let's break this down into two things.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Number one, I need to get delivery.
- 12:38Speaker 4: So the fact that I got a delivery, it was
- 12:40Speaker 4: really really exciting.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But also a little scary, you told.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Me, Yeah, Well then it was also a little scary
- 12:46Speaker 4: because the delivery didn't come to my house in Perth.
- 12:48Speaker 5: It went to my office place.
- 12:51Speaker 4: And when you get a delivery in your office place
- 12:54Speaker 4: in a box and I'm you know, like, and you're
- 12:57Speaker 4: a notable person within your sport, you start to think,
- 13:01Speaker 4: what the hell might that be? And I knew it
- 13:03Speaker 4: wasn't from one of the sponsors. I could tell it
- 13:05Speaker 4: was beautifully wrapped, and I was like, oh, and so
- 13:08Speaker 4: I was a little nervous. And I actually said to
- 13:09Speaker 4: every round in the office and where did this come from?
- 13:12Speaker 4: Does anyone know what this is?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Is this a giant box of anthrax?
- 13:18Speaker 3: But you have to give us the background, though, give
- 13:22Speaker 3: us the background as to why you were a little nervous.
- 13:25Speaker 5: Well, I had.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I have historically received a box in the office that
- 13:29Speaker 4: had come from someone previously that I paid a reasonable yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 4: a reasonable amount of attention to me at a period
- 13:39Speaker 4: of time and then sent me. And when I and
- 13:42Speaker 4: this box, this particular box historically was huge.
- 13:45Speaker 5: It was it was big. I'm like, that would have
- 13:47Speaker 5: cost a fortune to send.
- 13:48Speaker 4: And then when I opened it up it was and
- 13:50Speaker 4: what I what I should say is what was in
- 13:52Speaker 4: the box was lovely, But it did to a point
- 13:56Speaker 4: make me feel a little bit uncomfortable. But it was
- 13:58Speaker 4: a lot of spiritual up and like books on you know,
- 14:02Speaker 4: your chakras, and there was a few other bits and
- 14:06Speaker 4: pieces in there and the things. I opened it up
- 14:07Speaker 4: in the office and everyone was watching, and it was
- 14:10Speaker 4: like I got ribbed for a year, I reckon.
- 14:14Speaker 5: So it was kind of a lovely gesture from.
- 14:16Speaker 4: A person that but it just kind of yeah, it
- 14:19Speaker 4: was maybe a step too far.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Oh are your chakras though, any good chakras aligned? Look
- 14:23Speaker 1: at that?
- 14:25Speaker 5: I only opened page three.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Even what has it been?
- 14:29Speaker 5: Sure?
- 14:29Speaker 1: How do you get it? Do you need to go
- 14:31Speaker 1: and sh see a chakra cairopractor to get it realigned?
- 14:34Speaker 1: But it reminded me of that story you told us
- 14:36Speaker 1: once where you asked this guy who was this friend
- 14:39Speaker 1: to go along to some something at a corporate box
- 14:41Speaker 1: with you, maybe at the Swan's or something, and he's
- 14:43Speaker 1: sitting there rubbing you on the back, going hey babe,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and no, no, that's not where we are, mate. Yeah,
- 14:51Speaker 1: let's just not.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Should we talk more about that story, Catherine? You want
- 14:54Speaker 5: to just cut that off.
- 14:56Speaker 3: On I do have some other interesting stalker s over
- 15:01Speaker 3: enthusiastic fans stories, but we'll go we'll get to those.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'd tell us about what you actually did get Okay.
- 15:07Speaker 4: Okay, So anyhow I did open this. I eventually opened
- 15:10Speaker 4: the box, actually shut my door because I wanted to
- 15:11Speaker 4: do it in private, just in case it was that
- 15:14Speaker 4: was inappropriate. And I one of my staff members who
- 15:19Speaker 4: I won't mention, kept walking fast my door, having a
- 15:22Speaker 4: bit of a looking.
- 15:23Speaker 5: She was like really interested.
- 15:25Speaker 4: But anyhow, as I opened it, it was a lovely, bright
- 15:28Speaker 4: colored box. And then and it was yours sweet ass
- 15:32Speaker 4: or something like that. And then I opened it up
- 15:34Speaker 4: again and it was a lovely card and it came
- 15:35Speaker 4: from three very special people, two of which are on
- 15:38Speaker 4: the screen with me right now. And it was from
- 15:40Speaker 4: you guys, thanking me for doing my voluntary work on
- 15:43Speaker 4: this show. We're all good luck.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, I know.
- 15:48Speaker 4: However, whilst the thought was impressive, it was what was
- 15:53Speaker 4: in it that honestly has rocked my.
- 15:55Speaker 5: World since the second that I opened that box. And
- 15:58Speaker 5: it was.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Dubai chocolate, like three different brands of a drink, pistachio cream,
- 16:05Speaker 4: like this household is at a different level at the
- 16:09Speaker 4: moment when you open the fridge It's like this beaming
- 16:12Speaker 4: light comes out and you can see nothing healthy except
- 16:15Speaker 4: this bloody boss staring at me.
- 16:18Speaker 5: Of Dubai chocolate. How was even going to bring it
- 16:21Speaker 5: in and need a little bit on the show?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Oh we should have. I want to say how much
- 16:25Speaker 1: is left?
- 16:25Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 16:27Speaker 1: Bit over half well done.
- 16:29Speaker 4: But I will tell you Thursday when I say we wrote,
- 16:33Speaker 4: Rose got in on it.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Rose did get in. I said Rose wouldn't get in
- 16:36Speaker 5: on it, but she did. She gets in on everything.
- 16:38Speaker 5: We devoured one block in silence, like we just it
- 16:48Speaker 5: was like we were looking at each other and you
- 16:50Speaker 5: couldn't talk. And I'm so embarrassing, so good.
- 17:00Speaker 1: The drink sounded fascinating. Have you tried that?
- 17:03Speaker 4: I haven't got there. No, I haven't got there. I
- 17:05Speaker 4: want to get through the chocolate first, and then I'm
- 17:07Speaker 4: I wasn't sure.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Whether the drink would be disgusting or not.
- 17:10Speaker 4: But it's like, well, next time I come on the show,
- 17:13Speaker 4: I'll report back on the drink. But you know, the
- 17:15Speaker 4: pistacha like the jar of pistachio cream. So Rose and
- 17:19Speaker 4: I are now debating what we do because we can
- 17:21Speaker 4: go out and make you can grab the pastry stuff
- 17:25Speaker 4: that you then you know, you cook I think I
- 17:27Speaker 4: was explaining last time. And then you put on the
- 17:30Speaker 4: the pistachio cream and then you can make your own chocolate.
- 17:32Speaker 4: I feel like that sounds hard.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Hard. Just pajamas and like just eating straight out of
- 17:38Speaker 1: the jar with your hands.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and just gone by a block of chocolate and
- 17:42Speaker 5: then you just dip.
- 17:43Speaker 3: What about just even a croissant or something and then
- 17:46Speaker 3: put the pistachio.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Anything, Catherine strawberries, it doesn't matter to drive.
- 17:54Speaker 1: No, I don't know where did we get it? Did
- 17:57Speaker 1: you google it? Can you get it in Sydney's on
- 18:00Speaker 1: the internet? Oh? The world wide? I don't know where
- 18:06Speaker 1: the internet here.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Guys.
- 18:07Speaker 4: That was a very kind stalker gesture and I really
- 18:10Speaker 4: appreciate it.
- 18:11Speaker 1: You're welcome, shout you. And it was nice to hear
- 18:14Speaker 1: something that had tickled your fancy. So we organized that.
- 18:17Speaker 1: But we were getting these messages and hearing the story
- 18:20Speaker 1: about the last delivery. You got to work while we
- 18:22Speaker 1: were out doing something very exciting, won't we. So one
- 18:25Speaker 1: of the lovely dribblers, Angela, invited us to the opening
- 18:28Speaker 1: night of Lemisable, and so Kath and I went, and
- 18:31Speaker 1: my kids were there, and this is the big stadium spectacular,
- 18:35Speaker 1: so massive orchestra on stage, nine thousand people at the
- 18:39Speaker 1: International Convention Center. And so we're walking in this is
- 18:43Speaker 1: this is a buddy parenting fail, though, tell you we're
- 18:46Speaker 1: walking in. I've got my two kids there and we went, oh,
- 18:48Speaker 1: there's David Campbell and kids were like, who's David Campbell.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I said, he's a musical theater star, TV star. I
- 18:54Speaker 1: was also the son of Jimmy Barnes. Both of them,
- 18:56Speaker 1: my nearly seventeen year old son and my nearly twelve
- 18:59Speaker 1: year old daughter said wo's Jimmy Barnes. And it's like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: what what do you mean? Who's traded them in?
- 19:04Speaker 3: You?
- 19:04Speaker 5: Well?
- 19:05Speaker 1: But then I said cold Chizel, not nothing. And then
- 19:07Speaker 1: we met up with Lewis's mate during the interval, and
- 19:10Speaker 1: I was telling Jack this story about how Lewis didn't
- 19:13Speaker 1: know who Cold Chizel was, and he said, who's Cold Chisel?
- 19:16Speaker 1: So I would have put them in a room, locked
- 19:20Speaker 1: the door. I don't know that we should have been
- 19:23Speaker 1: allowed to vote on the weekend.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Gordy, do you remember on that when we were in
- 19:30Speaker 3: we Netfirst Bring Netfirst Back? Wasn't Netfest the best tournament
- 19:35Speaker 3: in the world. So we were ambassadors for Netfest. We
- 19:37Speaker 3: went like four or five years in a row. It
- 19:39Speaker 3: was always was initially in Surface Paradise, I remember that,
- 19:42Speaker 3: and then they moved it to the Sunny coast. It
- 19:44Speaker 3: was on Malula Barbeach. Was amazing. Anyway, they always had
- 19:46Speaker 3: this massive party and we went to the party and
- 19:49Speaker 3: I think it was like disc or. We were dressed
- 19:52Speaker 3: up as eighties something well I can't even remember, but
- 19:55Speaker 3: we were.
- 19:55Speaker 1: All dressed up eighty.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Anyway, we're walking in and you can hear Cold Chisel
- 20:00Speaker 3: being sung, and.
- 20:02Speaker 1: We're like, oh my god, Jimmy Barnes is here. Jimmy
- 20:04Speaker 1: Barnes is here. This is nuts.
- 20:06Speaker 3: So we walk in like all excited, turn the corner
- 20:09Speaker 3: and it's Shelley o'donald singing. I can't remember which song
- 20:15Speaker 3: it was, but so this is Hannah Munday's mum.
- 20:18Speaker 1: How she'd feel about You're thinking she was Jimmy, but
- 20:21Speaker 1: you heard her speak. She was exactly like it.
- 20:25Speaker 3: She was unbel She's got a great voice, but she's
- 20:28Speaker 3: a little like it's a little deep.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Wasn't that incredible? Were running in there thinking.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Yeah, she was singing, she was singing cass Art. That's right,
- 20:36Speaker 4: she was singing Cassarn. Yeah it was Caesar and Shelley
- 20:40Speaker 4: won't mind us saying this. She often finds herself up
- 20:43Speaker 4: on stage even if it's not a karaoke place, and
- 20:47Speaker 4: can rip a song out like she does. You're right,
- 20:49Speaker 4: she's got her and my voice is actually quite so
- 20:52Speaker 4: it's quite deep. But yeah she can. She can crack
- 20:54Speaker 4: a tune. Her and I've got on the guitar together
- 20:56Speaker 4: and sung a couple before, so yeah, she was.
- 20:58Speaker 5: She was good.
- 20:59Speaker 4: But Netfit was netflix best job I've ever been paidful.
- 21:02Speaker 5: I know.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And it stopped in COVID.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Remember we were desperate trying to get back up there
- 21:06Speaker 3: and then they never did it again.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Get it back. Let's lobby the chair of Netball Australia
- 21:12Speaker 1: about that one. But anyway, later it's extra shit to
- 21:14Speaker 1: do speaking in voices. So this Lame miserrab it was
- 21:17Speaker 1: bloody amazing, wasn't it then? And what was incredible? So
- 21:20Speaker 1: we watched this amazing show which always brings me to tears.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Lame Miserrah Black It's just like so so powerful. But
- 21:26Speaker 1: then at the end, because this was like the first
- 21:30Speaker 1: tour in twenty five years or something like that. Cameron Macintosh,
- 21:34Speaker 1: the genius behind lame Is, came out on stage and
- 21:38Speaker 1: then they brought back the original Australian car. So they
- 21:41Speaker 1: brought back like Normy Row, Philip Quast, Simon Burke, David
- 21:46Speaker 1: Campbell got up on stage and sang Nicky Webster, Nicky
- 21:49Speaker 1: Webster and wow and so where then the kids are like,
- 21:53Speaker 1: who's Nicky Webster in the car? We're talking about it
- 21:56Speaker 1: afterwards and we googled, god it, how do you reckon
- 21:58Speaker 1: Nicky Webster is now?
- 22:00Speaker 4: Yeah, so I saw this the other day. She's like
- 22:03Speaker 4: mid thirty.
- 22:04Speaker 1: She's thirty eight years odd.
- 22:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I fine.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Yeah, again the children didn't five you. That was but
- 22:12Speaker 1: that was a great moment. Wasn't see Normi Roo up
- 22:15Speaker 1: there and just like and that obviously meant so much
- 22:17Speaker 1: to these people who'd spent so long with this, with
- 22:20Speaker 1: this production to be brought back on and then the
- 22:22Speaker 1: current cast was so you know it clearly really appreciated
- 22:26Speaker 1: that opportunity to sing with them. And Matt Lucas was
- 22:29Speaker 1: in it from Little Britain. He was the master of
- 22:32Speaker 1: the House. Yeah, he fantastic And Marina Pryor is playing
- 22:37Speaker 1: his wife in this. She didn't sing that night because
- 22:40Speaker 1: she'd lost her voice. But it's like this is like
- 22:42Speaker 1: heavy hitters in this thing, it was umble.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Can I ask a question though the tears did they
- 22:47Speaker 3: come before or after?
- 22:48Speaker 1: You fell asleep? A couple of times, so there's a
- 22:52Speaker 1: couple of moments in it, you know. The Fontine stuff
- 22:55Speaker 1: I don't find is quite as exciting as when the
- 22:57Speaker 1: hot boys are at the barricade. But I I did
- 23:00Speaker 1: have a couple of little nods and my daughter woke me.
- 23:04Speaker 1: But then I felt refreshed and ready for the emotional
- 23:07Speaker 1: turmoil ahead.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Funny as do you know what jet lag, I rose
- 23:14Speaker 4: and I did a trip to London. I love a
- 23:16Speaker 4: theater show, so I'm very I'm loving listening to talking
- 23:18Speaker 4: about the grand that you're just the big exposa you
- 23:22Speaker 4: just went to with lems. But we went and we landed.
- 23:26Speaker 4: We did the seventeen hour direct flight from to London
- 23:29Speaker 4: lands at five am in the morning, so you've got
- 23:33Speaker 4: to kind of hang in there. So it made this
- 23:35Speaker 4: genius decision, let's go to a theater show so that
- 23:39Speaker 4: you know, like we'll be so engaged to be great
- 23:41Speaker 4: and then you know, then that night we'll have a
- 23:43Speaker 4: really big sleep in.
- 23:44Speaker 5: It'll be terrific. And so we hop on the flight,
- 23:46Speaker 5: get up.
- 23:46Speaker 4: You know, you're all excited during the day, and we
- 23:49Speaker 4: chose Charlie and the Chocolate Factory now by Nature on
- 23:53Speaker 4: the TV terrific show. Loved it, used to watch it
- 23:55Speaker 4: all the time. Bit like sound of music for me.
- 23:58Speaker 4: So we get to the show. We walk in, I
- 24:00Speaker 4: are pretty excited or good, no dramas. Next minute, all
- 24:03Speaker 4: I remember was a tap tap tap on my shoulder
- 24:06Speaker 4: and it was an old couple sitting behind us before
- 24:08Speaker 4: the show had even started, saying.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Oh Love, are you okay?
- 24:12Speaker 4: And I was like, well, I didn't even know where
- 24:14Speaker 4: I was.
- 24:14Speaker 5: I'm like, where am I come?
- 24:16Speaker 4: In the middle of the Charlie the Jump and then
- 24:19Speaker 4: Rose was fast asleep too, and they were We're like, oh, sorry,
- 24:22Speaker 4: we've just landed from Australia.
- 24:24Speaker 5: We're so exhausted. And they said, oh, look, would you
- 24:26Speaker 5: like us to try and keep you away during the
- 24:28Speaker 5: show and we said that would be great. How many
- 24:30Speaker 5: times do you think they tapped us during.
- 24:32Speaker 1: The show stop? Even once it started.
- 24:35Speaker 4: I was out, Oh, Cath, I couldn't keep I had
- 24:38Speaker 4: a really bad jet lag, and I don't I'm bad
- 24:41Speaker 4: on the way back, not usually on the way over,
- 24:43Speaker 4: I would have been snoring.
- 24:44Speaker 5: With the orchestra the show signing note Well, I don't recall.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Because and the reason I asked is because lame Is
- 24:51Speaker 3: was great and you sit there and you're just like
- 24:54Speaker 3: so appreciative of what these people can do. But it
- 24:57Speaker 3: was it was a little boring for me, and that
- 24:59Speaker 3: it's not like a big musical with us dancing, changes
- 25:02Speaker 3: of scenery and stuff, because it is it's much more
- 25:04Speaker 3: static because it's the arena spectacular thing.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yeah, So if it was like that, I get it,
- 25:09Speaker 3: Like I could totally understand somebody.
- 25:11Speaker 1: If you put me in a chair in the dark,
- 25:13Speaker 1: jet lag or not, there's a ninety percent chance I'm
- 25:17Speaker 1: going to have a little snooze at some stage during
- 25:19Speaker 1: the mix. The only movie I can remember watching in
- 25:22Speaker 1: the last well since I had children that I haven't
- 25:25Speaker 1: had a snooze in is The Quiet Place. Have you
- 25:28Speaker 1: seen that one? It is just it's so so stressful.
- 25:32Speaker 1: This whole movie is virtually silent because the premise is
- 25:36Speaker 1: the world's been taken over by some types of aliens.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Who don't You don't see, but they will kill you
- 25:41Speaker 1: if they hear you. So they can't get you if
- 25:44Speaker 1: they can't hear you. So the whole movie is conducted
- 25:48Speaker 1: in silence, and any type of noise is incredibly stressful.
- 25:51Speaker 1: And it's the most tense movie I've ever seen because
- 25:55Speaker 1: the quiet would put you to sleep, no, because it's
- 25:59Speaker 1: so it's so stressful. The second one, how's this We're
- 26:01Speaker 1: watching it at home, it's also very stressful. And I
- 26:05Speaker 1: said to Pete. There was this picture frame hanging above
- 26:08Speaker 1: the couch, and I could see in that that the
- 26:11Speaker 1: frame sort of sat a bit apart from the picture,
- 26:13Speaker 1: and I said, I reckon, there's a cockroach in there.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And that's when I say that that means deal with
- 26:20Speaker 1: the cockroach, because that's the language of our love, is
- 26:24Speaker 1: that I point out the cockroaches. He deals with the cockroaches.
- 26:28Speaker 1: And he just went, yeah, okay, I'll get it later.
- 26:30Speaker 1: And I thought, I'm going to be reasonable, and I
- 26:32Speaker 1: sat down on the couch and this thing fell on me.
- 26:36Speaker 1: During the movie, As I said, it's already super tense, silent, whatever,
- 26:41Speaker 1: and then they're not as definitely awake for the rest
- 26:46Speaker 1: of that bugs. But no, I'm you know I would
- 26:51Speaker 1: go on. I'm just going to say I'm very prone
- 26:53Speaker 1: to falling asleep during during anything, no matter how good
- 26:56Speaker 1: it is. No shade on whatever I'm watching. If it's
- 26:59Speaker 1: if it's nighttime, and it's if I've had a drink
- 27:01Speaker 1: before it, if I've had a glass of wine, then
- 27:03Speaker 1: that's a nice little Well, we're obviously about to have
- 27:05Speaker 1: a snooze. We did have a bottle of rose before
- 27:07Speaker 1: we were in.
- 27:09Speaker 4: That doesn't help, Catherine, I have it. I gave you
- 27:12Speaker 4: a challenge, Carolyn, which I was pleased.
- 27:14Speaker 5: To hear that you upheld. Yes, I did, thanking gelato,
- 27:17Speaker 5: good job.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I have one for Catherine. Oh, I was just trying
- 27:21Speaker 4: to google. It's about watching a show I want you
- 27:24Speaker 4: to watch.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Harry Potter, is it?
- 27:26Speaker 4: You might know it's a little different to Harry Potter,
- 27:30Speaker 4: though I can tell you Black Mirror.
- 27:33Speaker 1: No is it going to scare me?
- 27:35Speaker 5: Have you watched any Carroll I have?
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't watched all of the most recent series,
- 27:38Speaker 1: but they're fascinated. They're like one hour and each one
- 27:41Speaker 1: is a different premise.
- 27:43Speaker 4: It's scary, though, I want no, no, no, no no.
- 27:45Speaker 4: I just want you to watch episode one, series.
- 27:49Speaker 1: One, okay of what black, Black Mirror?
- 27:51Speaker 5: Black Mirror's remember that.
- 27:54Speaker 1: One, Karen, I can't remember which one it is. Give me,
- 27:56Speaker 1: give me some hints to trigger my memory. You're going
- 27:59Speaker 1: to freak me, minister. Oh yeah, what's it on? What's
- 28:05Speaker 1: it on? I don't know Netflix?
- 28:07Speaker 5: I think it's on Netflix's.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Will be on the internet? Have you heard of the internet? Again?
- 28:14Speaker 5: There it is?
- 28:15Speaker 3: Hey, aside from theater movies, whatever, are you too much
- 28:20Speaker 3: of like a crier?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yeah? Do you cry just like in life ads? Whatever?
- 28:27Speaker 3: No? But like if it wasn't something that you were watching, like,
- 28:29Speaker 3: would you you know, like the kids say something to
- 28:32Speaker 3: you or whatever?
- 28:32Speaker 1: Do you cry just in life much? I don't cry
- 28:35Speaker 1: often when my children are speaking to me. I do
- 28:37Speaker 1: sort of sit in the corner and rock back and forth,
- 28:39Speaker 1: holding my head in my hands. But you know, I'm
- 28:43Speaker 1: a big crier. I am. I am. The advertising people
- 28:48Speaker 1: know exactly what my buttons are and they press them
- 28:50Speaker 1: and I just yep, I'm like Pad looves dogs. So
- 28:53Speaker 1: I'm meant to cry now. Oh yeah, I'm I'm there.
- 28:55Speaker 1: What about you? Do you cry much? Gord?
- 28:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm I'm I'm cryer of human kind, Like I
- 29:02Speaker 4: get really emotional about just when you see great things
- 29:07Speaker 4: in life. That's mostly when I cry.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that would be me too, But I don't, I mean,
- 29:12Speaker 3: in normal life, wouldn't cry like I can't remember the
- 29:15Speaker 3: last time I cried.
- 29:16Speaker 1: I came close when Harper said she likes dance more
- 29:19Speaker 1: than netball. Yes, Jesus.
- 29:22Speaker 3: But the thing that, like I reckon, it's good for
- 29:25Speaker 3: the soul, right, just to get it, flush your eyes
- 29:27Speaker 3: out and have a big cry. And so every time
- 29:29Speaker 3: I get in those moods, I'll put the notebook on,
- 29:31Speaker 3: you know, that does the job every single time. Or
- 29:34Speaker 3: I watch now like army coming home from war or
- 29:38Speaker 3: soldiers coming home from war. Have you seen all those
- 29:40Speaker 3: compilations that they put together and haven't seen their loved ones.
- 29:44Speaker 1: To see mum or Dad shows up at school and
- 29:46Speaker 1: the kids not expecting them.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Yeah, every time without fail. But the other day found
- 29:50Speaker 3: a new one.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Oh my god. So it's called army tapouts about you
- 29:55Speaker 1: know what I'm talking about. You have you seen it?
- 29:58Speaker 3: So that when they come back, they have all the
- 30:01Speaker 3: soldiers lining up right and they're all standing to attention,
- 30:04Speaker 3: looking straight ahead as they do, and all their loved
- 30:07Speaker 3: ones obviously get to wherever they are and they've got
- 30:09Speaker 3: to go and find them. But they can stand in
- 30:12Speaker 3: front of their loved one, and some of them have
- 30:14Speaker 3: got newborn babies they've not seen and they hold them
- 30:16Speaker 3: in their face, but they're not allowed to move until
- 30:18Speaker 3: they get a tap on the shoulder.
- 30:20Speaker 1: It's such bullshit. Though it's crazy.
- 30:26Speaker 3: That is also the best thing ever, because they're literally
- 30:28Speaker 3: standing there like with tears coming out of their eyes.
- 30:31Speaker 1: And they can't move.
- 30:32Speaker 3: That is I mean to do to the.
- 30:36Speaker 5: The poor bastard next door is broken down.
- 30:38Speaker 4: He's on the ground rolling hugging his wife and his kid,
- 30:41Speaker 4: and this other person's just standing there like it's.
- 30:46Speaker 1: What Psycho invented. That though that it's like, Okay, you're home,
- 30:50Speaker 1: you get to see your families. You know, you haven't died.
- 30:53Speaker 1: You might have friends who did or you know, had
- 30:55Speaker 1: terrible accents or whatever. Your home. You're safe. You can
- 30:58Speaker 1: see that they're safe. But we're just going to hold
- 31:00Speaker 1: it off just a little bit longer. We're just going
- 31:02Speaker 1: to punish you that bit longer. Who who did this?
- 31:06Speaker 1: Yeah it's mean, but watch it if you want to
- 31:08Speaker 1: release every time. So I will tell you this is
- 31:11Speaker 1: something that a tip if you have to do any
- 31:13Speaker 1: sort of public speaking or whatever and you're worried that
- 31:15Speaker 1: you're going to get emotional, clench your butt cheeks when
- 31:19Speaker 1: at the point that you start to tear up, and
- 31:21Speaker 1: it really helps get you back under control. Do that
- 31:24Speaker 1: when I've got diarrheam if you ever have to do
- 31:28Speaker 1: a speech and it's like I do not want to
- 31:30Speaker 1: cry in this, or like I am seed. The event
- 31:33Speaker 1: for the Royal Life Saving Association a couple of years
- 31:35Speaker 1: ago and they'd had their big it was the Big
- 31:38Speaker 1: Awards and they usually had it with the Governor General
- 31:41Speaker 1: and they couldn't for some reason, some COVID nonsense, and
- 31:44Speaker 1: so I had to read these citations of what these
- 31:48Speaker 1: heroic people had done and the life saving things that
- 31:52Speaker 1: they were involved in. It's like this is not about me.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I need to not cry, but it's like, how can
- 31:57Speaker 1: this is incredible what these people have done, how they
- 31:59Speaker 1: put themselves at risks or whatever. So I clenched for all.
- 32:03Speaker 3: It was to google this on the worldwide where How
- 32:06Speaker 3: did you know that clenching your butt was going to.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I think I suspect it was an internet arrangement that
- 32:12Speaker 1: originally introduced it to me, But I did tell everyone
- 32:15Speaker 1: that night. I said, this is what I'll be doing.
- 32:17Speaker 1: If you need to hold it together too, I suggest
- 32:19Speaker 1: you do that. And there were quite a few people saying,
- 32:21Speaker 1: I'm going to test this.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I'm going to go home and watch Army tap outs
- 32:24Speaker 3: and clench my button.
- 32:25Speaker 1: Sew.
- 32:26Speaker 4: You know what I'm going the next time I'm doing
- 32:27Speaker 4: an emotional speech, I'm having a curry the night before then.
- 32:35Speaker 1: All right, well we should talk about some netball, can
- 32:40Speaker 1: I quickly?
- 32:40Speaker 3: Before we do that, I've got to tell you about
- 32:42Speaker 3: this the stalker, well, well, the overly enthusiastic fan that
- 32:46Speaker 3: I was talking about before. So we were in New
- 32:48Speaker 3: Zealand and when you were telling us about this delivery
- 32:50Speaker 3: you had to work. It reminded me we were in
- 32:52Speaker 3: christ Church and I think we'd already played against the
- 32:55Speaker 3: silver Ferns. This is with the Diamonds, and we're coming
- 32:58Speaker 3: down to breakfast, getting ready packing up to leave to
- 33:01Speaker 3: go to the airport and fly home again. And there
- 33:04Speaker 3: is this ginormous ice sculpture that had been sent to
- 33:09Speaker 3: the hotel for normal plumber because they called her the
- 33:13Speaker 3: ice Queen in New Zealand.
- 33:15Speaker 1: And random delivery.
- 33:18Speaker 3: The hotel didn't know where it came from, didn't know
- 33:21Speaker 3: who it came from. There was nothing with it. They
- 33:24Speaker 3: just said, this was delivered for you, normal plumber. And
- 33:26Speaker 3: it was this massive ice sculpture. It was a pissa
- 33:29Speaker 3: sculpture of what.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I think it was just a lady giant dick and balls.
- 33:39Speaker 1: They do do that.
- 33:39Speaker 3: In some places though, when you drink alcohol out of
- 33:42Speaker 3: the penis it.
- 33:46Speaker 1: People could book that for their eighteenth So did carever
- 33:49Speaker 1: find out who?
- 33:50Speaker 4: Period?
- 33:50Speaker 1: And never found out? And meanwhile it's dripping in the
- 33:53Speaker 1: foyer as I just a reminder though, it wasn't necessarily
- 33:59Speaker 1: a penis and testicles, So the dripping I.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Think, no, it was not, and it wasn't coming out
- 34:05Speaker 3: someone's unclenched butt cheeks either.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So there you go. That's a great story, isn't it.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Love it.
- 34:10Speaker 1: If anyone would like to let us know that they
- 34:12Speaker 1: were the person who sent the ice sculpture, just DM
- 34:15Speaker 1: me so we can. I'm not saying will necessarily protect
- 34:18Speaker 1: your secret identity, but shit, we'd love to know.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Yeah, what did the plumster? How did the plumster re act.
- 34:24Speaker 1: She was cranky. That's a good thing. Take that on board.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Somebody dislikes you enough to spend a lot of money.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Did you tell me what the strture was off?
- 34:34Speaker 5: No?
- 34:34Speaker 3: I think it was just a woman. I can't write,
- 34:36Speaker 3: to be honest, I can't remember. Okay, Yeah, how funny,
- 34:40Speaker 3: good time, fantastic.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Well that's a nice segue, normal plumber being the former
- 34:47Speaker 1: coach of the Australian Diamonds to talk about this board
- 34:50Speaker 1: of netball and what happened on the weekend and stuff happened,
- 34:54Speaker 1: stuff happened. I have to start with an apology to
- 34:58Speaker 1: the Diamonds, to the Giants. Rather, I spent fifty nine
- 35:02Speaker 1: minutes thinking, you guys are going to be really proud
- 35:06Speaker 1: of getting close to winning this game, and you'll take
- 35:08Speaker 1: a lot away from it. But it was really not
- 35:11Speaker 1: until there was like ninety seconds to a minute to
- 35:14Speaker 1: go that I thought, oh, you guys are going to
- 35:15Speaker 1: be really proud because you're going to win the damn thing. Yeah,
- 35:17Speaker 1: So I'm sorry Giants and hats off man. That was
- 35:21Speaker 1: a terrific game.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Loved it was good until the Giants won and I
- 35:25Speaker 3: got another tip roll.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Yeah, do you know what's really interesting? And I don't
- 35:29Speaker 4: know whether this is the coaching head, but every time
- 35:33Speaker 4: you think about the story that was leading up to that,
- 35:36Speaker 4: Giants win perfectly timed with the Thunderbird story. And then
- 35:42Speaker 4: you know, Shamira Stirling not in there, like it was
- 35:46Speaker 4: kind of like this, if ever there was a possibility.
- 35:49Speaker 4: And this is nothing against the Giants, but like this
- 35:52Speaker 4: was the game for them to win.
- 35:54Speaker 5: You know.
- 35:54Speaker 4: So they're playing reasonable netball, but.
- 35:56Speaker 5: They just can't get there.
- 35:58Speaker 4: They're getting frustrated, their fans creating, you know, some noise,
- 36:01Speaker 4: et cetera, et cetera. The players are coming out to speak,
- 36:04Speaker 4: Joe steps up and leads as a captain.
- 36:06Speaker 5: You know we're going to do this.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Joe steps out in the court, looks unbelievable in the
- 36:10Speaker 4: first few minutes.
- 36:11Speaker 5: Then you go to the Thunderbirds. Thunderbird's been holding this
- 36:14Speaker 5: secret in.
- 36:14Speaker 4: The background, playing winning but not looking brilliant, you know,
- 36:19Speaker 4: and then all of a sudden, the announcement comes and
- 36:22Speaker 4: now the Norse and it's just like this, I don't
- 36:24Speaker 4: know what do you say?
- 36:24Speaker 5: I don't know what it is, but it's like this
- 36:26Speaker 5: story was meant to be on the weekend.
- 36:28Speaker 1: It's cinematic.
- 36:29Speaker 3: It was really Yeah, it was great holding this secret,
- 36:32Speaker 3: the worst kept secret of all.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Time that well I didn't know. Well I mentioned when
- 36:39Speaker 1: you told me on Thurstan, Oh my god, and you're like,
- 36:42Speaker 1: we know for ages, didn't I tell you? No, No,
- 36:45Speaker 1: you did.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Not to be fair, let's yeah, go on, go on.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Yeah, well not not not officially confirmed by anyone, but
- 36:53Speaker 3: enough people talking about it that you knew that it
- 36:55Speaker 3: was happening.
- 36:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but Kat.
- 36:58Speaker 4: What I love about this, though, is that there are
- 37:00Speaker 4: enough people talking about it, but respectfully, no, I'm.
- 37:04Speaker 5: Said anything correct me too right now, and.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I'm going to pretend that was me. Yeah, I knew too,
- 37:09Speaker 1: but I was just keeping mum about it. I don't
- 37:11Speaker 1: bloody know anything about anything.
- 37:13Speaker 4: I would find it hard to believe that there weren't
- 37:15Speaker 4: people in media outlets that didn't have an insight to
- 37:20Speaker 4: this or at least yeah.
- 37:22Speaker 5: That would be really hard to believe. That's it.
- 37:24Speaker 4: I just love the fact that there was this enormous
- 37:27Speaker 4: respect amongst the sport to you know, like that.
- 37:30Speaker 5: That's a really important piece of news.
- 37:31Speaker 4: And I think given the you know, the Jamaican stories
- 37:35Speaker 4: issue that we've.
- 37:36Speaker 5: Been managing and whatever.
- 37:37Speaker 4: I just and so that you're aware, I've been on
- 37:39Speaker 4: I've had some conversations with my counterpart at the Adelaide Thunderbird,
- 37:43Speaker 4: So it was it was kind of nice and I
- 37:46Speaker 4: was hoping that everyone was going to be really respectful
- 37:48Speaker 4: to that story, which is great.
- 37:49Speaker 5: So I think it's a good thing for Nepple that
- 37:51Speaker 5: they did that.
- 37:51Speaker 3: And so good for the Adelaide Thunderbirds that they kept
- 37:54Speaker 3: it under wraps for as long as they want and
- 37:55Speaker 3: they started to plan. So you know, now we look
- 37:58Speaker 3: back at sam Marie Visabe pulled in to replace Ramelda,
- 38:02Speaker 3: Rake and George. I mean out the time, everyone's like,
- 38:03Speaker 3: you're bringing you a defender in from shoot or what
- 38:05Speaker 3: the Obviously now looking back, that was because of Shimira's
- 38:09Speaker 3: stealing comphy. So they had this level of time to
- 38:12Speaker 3: plan and to think about what their second option was
- 38:16Speaker 3: going to be, get someone settled in the team. They
- 38:18Speaker 3: weren't just thrown in the last minute, and they've had
- 38:19Speaker 3: to try and adjust really quickly and on the fly.
- 38:22Speaker 3: So I think the whole thing's been handled really well.
- 38:24Speaker 1: But and what a great like from a human resource
- 38:27Speaker 1: management perspective, you know, it's like it is if you
- 38:30Speaker 1: are running an organization and you were planning around key staff,
- 38:35Speaker 1: it's a massive hassle when someone is becomes unavailable. But
- 38:39Speaker 1: in this sport, it's just like, this is we are
- 38:42Speaker 1: dealing with young women and this is a thing that
- 38:45Speaker 1: we get. We don't treat it like it's a hassle.
- 38:48Speaker 1: We celebrate it and we embrace it, and I just
- 38:51Speaker 1: I think it's wonderful. You know, there are so many people,
- 38:54Speaker 1: certainly in my time in corporate it's like Christ, keep
- 38:56Speaker 1: your pregnancy secret for as long as possible, because you're
- 38:58Speaker 1: not going to get promoted as soon as they find
- 39:01Speaker 1: out you're pregnant. That's it. You know, it's like and
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know there are definitely examples of that. I was
- 39:07Speaker 1: promoted into a job when I was eight months pregnant
- 39:09Speaker 1: thanks to a really good manager who went, well, I
- 39:12Speaker 1: know your potential and whatever. But it's rare. And I
- 39:14Speaker 1: think this sport does an amazing job. And the coaches
- 39:18Speaker 1: in Professional Netbook, like Ivan Cleary doesn't have to deal
- 39:22Speaker 1: with this. Nathan Cleary is not going to go and
- 39:24Speaker 1: get pregnant and then go, my god, that's my whole season.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I need to completely readjust everything. So it's an amazing challenge,
- 39:30Speaker 1: and I think the sport does a great job of saying,
- 39:33Speaker 1: we celebrate you, we support you, this is part of
- 39:36Speaker 1: your life. We don't expect you to give your whole
- 39:38Speaker 1: life over to.
- 39:39Speaker 3: And tough because the Thunderbirds there are no chance of
- 39:42Speaker 3: this three p now, sorry, I mean they've got two
- 39:44Speaker 3: losses on the trot. They didn't look like they were
- 39:47Speaker 3: confident at all on the weekend. To me, they had
- 39:49Speaker 3: a great first quarter. I thought, Okay, they're not going
- 39:52Speaker 3: to skip too many beats here, but then as the
- 39:54Speaker 3: game went on and.
- 39:55Speaker 1: They're not used to losing. So I think the thing.
- 39:58Speaker 3: For me is how will they cope with now a
- 40:01Speaker 3: couple of losses going forward?
- 40:02Speaker 1: And what are they what's the next thing? So early
- 40:06Speaker 1: in the season, they only need to get into the
- 40:08Speaker 1: top four. So there's only one team that's won four games,
- 40:10Speaker 1: and most of them have only I don't think anyone's
- 40:13Speaker 1: won three games. The teams in equal seconds. Yeah, so
- 40:16Speaker 1: all they have to do is get into the four,
- 40:19Speaker 1: don't they, And that that that's still that's that's a
- 40:21Speaker 1: long way away. They know how to win big games
- 40:24Speaker 1: and they know how to do it without Shamira Stirling Humphrey.
- 40:28Speaker 1: I just I'm not willing to say that they had
- 40:32Speaker 1: to do it without Shamira. When did they last win
- 40:34Speaker 1: without Shamira? I don't know, Christ, but they have they
- 40:37Speaker 1: won games.
- 40:40Speaker 5: I do think it's they've.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Won games without her. The club existed before her, oh
- 40:44Speaker 1: yeah yeah, and they only need to win one game
- 40:48Speaker 1: at a time. They might not have won premierships without it.
- 40:50Speaker 1: They won premierships with Tannia Obs who was still there.
- 40:53Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm not you know, like you, I thought
- 40:57Speaker 1: they looked a bit a bit lost, but I think
- 40:59Speaker 1: that they will. You know, I'm not willing to kind
- 41:01Speaker 1: of write them off. And this is the thing that
- 41:03Speaker 1: you know, they are shoulder to shoulder with four other
- 41:06Speaker 1: clubs at the moment.
- 41:07Speaker 4: So two key things I reckon that we've got to
- 41:10Speaker 4: look for moving forward.
- 41:11Speaker 5: The Adelaide Thunderbird.
- 41:12Speaker 4: So number one is this game is all about scoreboard pressure.
- 41:16Speaker 4: So it's about being able to convert your center pass
- 41:18Speaker 4: quite simple. Everyone gets fifty percent of the time. So
- 41:21Speaker 4: to speak, Adelaide were down in that respect, which shouldn't
- 41:25Speaker 4: be something that shifts. To be blatantly honest with you
- 41:28Speaker 4: around their game. However, they've had the great luxury of
- 41:31Speaker 4: knowing that their defense end turns over a lot of
- 41:33Speaker 4: ball and their defense end didn't turn over as much ball.
- 41:36Speaker 4: So the equilibrium is going to change a little bit
- 41:38Speaker 4: in that that's number one for them to figure out,
- 41:41Speaker 4: and their attack and will have won't shift too greatly.
- 41:45Speaker 5: So I still think that they are right up there.
- 41:47Speaker 5: But I think what's.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Interesting and what I really liked about the weekend with
- 41:50Speaker 4: Tanya Robs was that they put Visas straight out there,
- 41:52Speaker 4: like wim right, like get out there and see what
- 41:55Speaker 4: she's going to be able to do. We know that
- 41:58Speaker 4: Latanya Wilson and Tillie Garrett can hold down the circle
- 42:01Speaker 4: and be quite formidable, and then they can run Hannah
- 42:03Speaker 4: Petty and so they will probably the challenge for Tanya Obbs,
- 42:08Speaker 4: I think, and Kathy Fallows moving forward will be what
- 42:11Speaker 4: is the lineup? But I think they were able to
- 42:14Speaker 4: take a lot of information out of that game. Will
- 42:16Speaker 4: be at a loss, and not only by goal, but
- 42:19Speaker 4: there was a lot of information that they'll gather from
- 42:21Speaker 4: that game around their defense and around Visa. Visa will
- 42:24Speaker 4: walk away with an enormous insight to playing the world's
- 42:28Speaker 4: best netball league. So I am with you, Kat, I
- 42:31Speaker 4: think their three peep becomes significantly harder. I don't think
- 42:35Speaker 4: they'd be a network fan that doesn't think that, But
- 42:37Speaker 4: I don't think they're a lost cause just yet.
- 42:40Speaker 3: I'll be interested when they come up against the likes
- 42:43Speaker 3: of a felon them a jock because this is only
- 42:48Speaker 3: one eighty four.
- 42:49Speaker 1: That's tiny for a goalkeeper in the circle.
- 42:53Speaker 3: So yeah, she's athletic, but I think that might be
- 42:56Speaker 3: an issue for them in the in the coming week.
- 42:58Speaker 5: And I think this is all connected, Caroline.
- 43:00Speaker 4: I was going to say this before and oh gee,
- 43:03Speaker 4: So I guess like I'm a person that's been in
- 43:06Speaker 4: position of recruitment when an athlete came to us after
- 43:10Speaker 4: the contract period has happened to inform us that she's
- 43:13Speaker 4: now pregnant, and the Adelaide Thunderbirds are also in a
- 43:17Speaker 4: similar predicament.
- 43:17Speaker 5: I just want to explain to.
- 43:18Speaker 4: The Dribblers out there, it is a really tough situation now.
- 43:22Speaker 4: In fairness, Janille Fowler Emmad and Shamila Sterling Humphrey are
- 43:25Speaker 4: probably beyond Helen Howsby, the.
- 43:28Speaker 5: Two biggest names of the game.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, and so everyone in the background's like, oh,
- 43:34Speaker 4: you're nothing without foul and thema oh, you're going to
- 43:36Speaker 4: be nothing without Sterling Humphrey. But the reality of this
- 43:38Speaker 4: situation is is that you recruit them for a reason,
- 43:41Speaker 4: and so you do everything to ensure they're on the.
- 43:44Speaker 5: Court week in week out.
- 43:45Speaker 4: But what is really difficult and something I really want
- 43:47Speaker 4: the sport to think about, is when you only have
- 43:50Speaker 4: a list of ten and you own, and then you
- 43:54Speaker 4: go in and this situation happens in contract time, and
- 43:59Speaker 4: then you go out England or you go out to
- 44:01Speaker 4: New Zealand and all of their athletes are contracted with
- 44:03Speaker 4: no clauses in it to release them. You're in a
- 44:06Speaker 4: really difficult predicament as opposed to having a list of
- 44:10Speaker 4: twelve contracted athletes, paid athletes, not training partners that have
- 44:15Speaker 4: been paid a pitt the amount of money where you're
- 44:17Speaker 4: able then to recruit the depth of your list. So
- 44:22Speaker 4: I think it's an interesting one because our sport's getting older,
- 44:24Speaker 4: and I think it's great that we've got pregnancy policies
- 44:27Speaker 4: and good luck to those that can fall pregnant and
- 44:30Speaker 4: come back to the.
- 44:30Speaker 5: Game, etc. But there is the other side of it.
- 44:33Speaker 4: When you're in clubland that depending on the timing, it
- 44:36Speaker 4: can be quite difficult.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Yeah, damn right, and I completely agree. I think ten
- 44:40Speaker 1: is such a it's such a small number. Like you know,
- 44:43Speaker 1: I've got ten to my under twelves team and that's like,
- 44:46Speaker 1: you know, I think twelve makes a whole lot of sense.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Can the game afford it? I don't know. Can the
- 44:51Speaker 1: club sufford it? I'm not entirely sure. I'm not making
- 44:54Speaker 1: a comment on that, but it is it's an incredibly
- 44:57Speaker 1: difficult management exercise that other sports don't have to deal
- 45:02Speaker 1: with to quite the same extent. How about the game
- 45:06Speaker 1: over there in the West though, Before we move off
- 45:09Speaker 1: this one, can I just say our girl Amy Sliger
- 45:12Speaker 1: really held her own against Georgie Georgis too.
- 45:15Speaker 3: I saw she was brilliant. She was actually brilliant, and
- 45:17Speaker 3: I saw her after the game. I was like, Hi, Amy, Catherine.
- 45:23Speaker 1: I was going to send Julie Sliger a note, and
- 45:25Speaker 1: so can you give me Amy's directnum because I want
- 45:27Speaker 1: to congratulate it, But Juels, can you pass that off? Magne?
- 45:30Speaker 5: You know what you're talking about?
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, I think she's horrified that it's.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Okay, let us travel west to what I think probably
- 45:42Speaker 1: was the most exciting game of the round, right, Oh, Gordie.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I felt for Cara Knan after that game though that
- 45:51Speaker 3: I mean did not have to be a super shot attempt.
- 45:54Speaker 3: A one put pressure on you. They would have been,
- 45:58Speaker 3: you would have been forced into a two. But I
- 46:00Speaker 3: think given what happened last week and her sinking a couple,
- 46:05Speaker 3: I don't know if that was all she was thinking
- 46:07Speaker 3: about as opposed to we just need a one, but
- 46:09Speaker 3: I got I felt for her.
- 46:12Speaker 4: Well the way I see this, Catherine, There's been a
- 46:14Speaker 4: lot of noise around Kara Conan and shooting super shots. Yeah,
- 46:18Speaker 4: we're led to believe that the players are pretty good
- 46:20Speaker 4: at muting their social media.
- 46:22Speaker 5: I'm not convinced that's been the case with Kara, but
- 46:25Speaker 5: who knows.
- 46:26Speaker 4: That said, though, and in fairness to Kara, she's not
- 46:29Speaker 4: the first by any stretch of the imagination, and she
- 46:33Speaker 4: certainly won't be the last to make a decision in
- 46:37Speaker 4: a super shot period correct that may potentially have been
- 46:40Speaker 4: hurtful or not correct.
- 46:42Speaker 5: And I can tell you and like, it's the amount
- 46:46Speaker 5: of people.
- 46:46Speaker 4: That you speak to around this super shot period and
- 46:48Speaker 4: they think it's so bloody easy. Why didn't she just
- 46:50Speaker 4: go away?
- 46:51Speaker 5: Why didn't she just do it too?
- 46:52Speaker 4: Even in the training environment, it's a really challenging concept.
- 46:57Speaker 4: Like if you didn't paf mass at school, you're in
- 46:59Speaker 4: all sorts when it comes to the super shot, telling
- 47:04Speaker 4: you players, it does really challenge players, and when you're
- 47:08Speaker 4: sort of up and in control on the scoreboard, the
- 47:10Speaker 4: decisions easy and often the like I look at the
- 47:13Speaker 4: Swiss at the moment, and their super shot accuracy is
- 47:17Speaker 4: really great, but they haven't been challenged yet, no right,
- 47:19Speaker 4: and potentially they may be all year, But like, it's
- 47:22Speaker 4: a different to shoot a supershot when you are under pressure.
- 47:25Speaker 4: That's when the percentages kind of you know. And I
- 47:27Speaker 4: look at Fever at the moment as an example, we're
- 47:29Speaker 4: the worst in the league for it, but if you
- 47:31Speaker 4: look at our first two games, it's because we were
- 47:33Speaker 4: diabolical and we had to take them and we just
- 47:36Speaker 4: which we weren't good. So I did feel for Conan
- 47:40Speaker 4: it wasn't the right decision, like in hindsight, and she'll
- 47:43Speaker 4: learn and reflect on that. But like I said, you
- 47:45Speaker 4: can't blame her, and no one game defines no one
- 47:48Speaker 4: moment defines a game, does it?
- 47:50Speaker 3: No, not at all, but yeah, of course, as that individual,
- 47:53Speaker 3: you think it does when it's the last one of
- 47:55Speaker 3: the game, don't you.
- 47:56Speaker 1: At least she didn't get a goal disallowed for not
- 47:58Speaker 1: listening to the umpire teller where to take the bloody shot.
- 48:00Speaker 3: Oh jeez, there was too much whistle in our game yesterday, nuts,
- 48:04Speaker 3: way too much, really, oh, way too much.
- 48:08Speaker 4: Okay, I think you're all referring Carolyn to the.
- 48:10Speaker 1: I'm talking to the yeah, which I thought move. I
- 48:14Speaker 1: listened to it a couple of times, and it's like
- 48:16Speaker 1: she was very clearly saying you're not where I want
- 48:18Speaker 1: you to be.
- 48:19Speaker 3: She wasn't because I listened to it again too, and
- 48:21Speaker 3: she said gold defense.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Move she does no, no, no, that was no no, no, no, no,
- 48:26Speaker 4: go back and re listen.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Yeah. Really she's really clear. Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 48:30Speaker 4: So her first wording is directly to the Gold offense,
- 48:35Speaker 4: and then it's followed with twice to the Gold attack.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:38Speaker 1: But what was the first word in to the goldfence?
- 48:40Speaker 5: So so, and kat what I want to say? So?
- 48:43Speaker 4: So, like everyone's going to think I'm out there definding
- 48:45Speaker 4: a defending fever. I'm not.
- 48:46Speaker 5: I just want to actually give an insight.
- 48:48Speaker 4: So at the beginning of the year it was made
- 48:50Speaker 4: really clear to all clubs around the umpires and the
- 48:52Speaker 4: positioning of penalties, And because the venues and the noise
- 48:56Speaker 4: is getting louder and louder, it is upon the players
- 48:58Speaker 4: to ensure that when the whistle is blown that they
- 49:01Speaker 4: are looking to understand what's happening with the umpire. So
- 49:05Speaker 4: it's not news to anybody that as setting of penalties.
- 49:09Speaker 5: Has already been brought up by the umpiring.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Fraternity preseason, So we're on notice as far as that
- 49:14Speaker 4: is concerned. Not everyone would have known about that. It's
- 49:17Speaker 4: a tough predicament and it was a timely one, unfortunately
- 49:21Speaker 4: for the Lightning.
- 49:22Speaker 5: But like I've watched it over and over for clarity. Yeah,
- 49:27Speaker 5: she should have know.
- 49:29Speaker 1: You know, neither of these are my team, so I
- 49:31Speaker 1: don't have you know, and I know that you are impartial,
- 49:34Speaker 1: but no one can accuse me of being partial in this.
- 49:36Speaker 1: And I just thought, honestly, she told you several I
- 49:38Speaker 1: think she blew the whistle a couple of times too.
- 49:40Speaker 1: It's like, you know this is and you know you
- 49:42Speaker 1: look at someone like Courtney Bruce who is always looking
- 49:44Speaker 1: at the umpire and going here, here, is this where
- 49:46Speaker 1: you want me? And it's like that constant conversation back
- 49:50Speaker 1: and forth. And there's a lot of the players, particularly
- 49:52Speaker 1: in the goal circle, who were doing that, and it's like, well,
- 49:54Speaker 1: that's what you need to be doing.
- 49:56Speaker 4: It's on Batcheldor to see clarity before she takes a shot.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Okay, disagree, Let's listen to the only the only person
- 50:05Speaker 1: who's actually been in that position. Well, and that's what
- 50:08Speaker 1: I did.
- 50:08Speaker 3: I put myself in her position, and I the first
- 50:11Speaker 3: thing I heard was golden Fance move.
- 50:13Speaker 1: And I would have gone off that.
- 50:15Speaker 3: So like THEO changed her mind, she changed what she
- 50:18Speaker 3: said the second time round, which is where Bacheltor should
- 50:20Speaker 3: have listened.
- 50:21Speaker 1: But I would already be in the I'm shooting this shot. Mode. Yeah, so.
- 50:26Speaker 4: Yeah, look, and you know what a pressure situation name.
- 50:30Speaker 4: And I made it really clear in the commentary that
- 50:32Speaker 4: neither of these two sides in the first three games
- 50:35Speaker 4: have had anywhere near a close battle. Like it was
- 50:38Speaker 4: double digit wins and losses for both sides. So and
- 50:42Speaker 4: the umpires right like so, you know, I mean, it's sport.
- 50:44Speaker 4: There are lots of moments, so it was a.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Tough time to take to make the point, to reinforce
- 50:49Speaker 1: the point. It was a tough time in the game,
- 50:51Speaker 1: and it may have been decisive, but it's yeah, I
- 50:57Speaker 1: love this. And then there was the local derby in Victoria.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Kira Austin took her two hundred super shot in that game.
- 51:07Speaker 1: She did indeed nailed her two hundred super shot the
- 51:10Speaker 1: first one to get two hundred?
- 51:13Speaker 3: Was it the first one when we know about Oh god,
- 51:15Speaker 3: I was gonna say it came around.
- 51:17Speaker 1: It feels like I two hundred, does it just have
- 51:19Speaker 1: to be first for that Stu?
- 51:21Speaker 3: But I've never heard somebody else get a two hundred,
- 51:23Speaker 3: so I was just wondering if that was the first
- 51:25Speaker 3: big one of those milestones or not.
- 51:27Speaker 1: There you go.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Well, then Vixen's holding on to her Victorian claims. Aren't
- 51:33Speaker 4: they about being the best team in town? So they
- 51:35Speaker 4: were certainly better formed. I thought Sophie Garbin was a
- 51:38Speaker 4: different beast this week, which was nice to see. Mavericks, Yeah,
- 51:41Speaker 4: they lost their way Mavericks unfortunately. I look probably a
- 51:47Speaker 4: little bit of both, to be honest with you. Glasgow
- 51:51Speaker 4: started the game and then they bought Unique on at halftime. Yeah,
- 51:56Speaker 4: I don't know, And I thought, to be honest with you,
- 51:59Speaker 4: I thought yellis like she sort of chipped away at
- 52:02Speaker 4: Jock in this game, so like she had a lot
- 52:04Speaker 4: of penalties in that, but then Jock sort of started
- 52:06Speaker 4: dropping balls and I don't know, a hard one. I
- 52:09Speaker 4: just thought Vixen's, like I've said this from the get go.
- 52:11Speaker 4: You know, like when Vixen's are on, they're one of
- 52:13Speaker 4: the toughest teams to beat in the league because skill
- 52:16Speaker 4: they're just so clinically skillful, and they hadn't been probably
- 52:21Speaker 4: the previous week against Fever it was.
- 52:23Speaker 5: But then yeah, they just came out and they.
- 52:25Speaker 4: Were out of the blocks early and you know, Kira,
- 52:28Speaker 4: Austin and Garvin just took it up a notch and
- 52:31Speaker 4: that was a big difference.
- 52:33Speaker 1: And for those driven MAVs. Sorry, it was a.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Good crowd for the MAVs. That was probably one of
- 52:38Speaker 4: their better crowds. But I'd imagine there was a lot
- 52:39Speaker 4: of Vixen's fans in Melbourne.
- 52:42Speaker 1: So this is the thing, you know, these these operating
- 52:44Speaker 1: surpluses that Netball Australia has, It happens off the back
- 52:47Speaker 1: of good crowds. We have to go to the games.
- 52:50Speaker 1: We have to be spending money on tickets so that
- 52:54Speaker 1: the game then has money to spend on the game,
- 52:56Speaker 1: so you know, get out there. And Goun said, I
- 52:59Speaker 1: did make a I did make a promise last year,
- 53:02Speaker 1: last netball year, that I would go and see a
- 53:05Speaker 1: game that is not one of my teams. And I
- 53:07Speaker 1: can't travel. I don't think I can travel for the
- 53:10Speaker 1: rest of the season to get to catch one. But
- 53:12Speaker 1: I will go to I think the Giants MAVs game
- 53:14Speaker 1: in July, which is you know, Giants is kind of
- 53:16Speaker 1: my team because I have a T shirt and I've
- 53:19Speaker 1: followed them in the West, and I would like to
- 53:20Speaker 1: support the underdog. But it's like I don't have a
- 53:22Speaker 1: MAVs T shirt. But it's like, we've got to be
- 53:24Speaker 1: buying tickets. We've got to be going to the games
- 53:27Speaker 1: and creating that wonderful atmosphere. Then they might be able
- 53:30Speaker 1: to turn the music down if there's enough people in
- 53:32Speaker 1: the room in the stadium cheering, because I know a
- 53:34Speaker 1: lot of people are upset about that. But for those
- 53:37Speaker 1: dribblers who've asked me to stop tipping the Vixens because
- 53:39Speaker 1: I'm the Jinx. Maybe the problem isn't me because I
- 53:42Speaker 1: tip the Vixens this week. Ah see it was me?
- 53:47Speaker 5: And did you get this weekend gat?
- 53:49Speaker 1: Just two? Bloody stupid tipping competition. Gordy, you got three?
- 53:53Speaker 1: I think?
- 53:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I got three.
- 53:55Speaker 1: I also got three. Liz by tipping the home teams
- 53:57Speaker 1: only got also got three. She tipped Giants by one,
- 54:01Speaker 1: so she did exceptionally well this weekend, but then obviously
- 54:04Speaker 1: didn't tip the map. So fifteen people who got bingo
- 54:08Speaker 1: this week, so I got all four? Right? Only three
- 54:10Speaker 1: people got zero this week.
- 54:12Speaker 3: Oh that's interesting. I saw Bob Jervis after the game.
- 54:16Speaker 3: I had a chat with her and she said she
- 54:18Speaker 3: got three. So I am copying Barb Jarvis's tips for
- 54:23Speaker 3: this week. She's already sent them through to me and
- 54:25Speaker 3: I'm going to copy them. And she did also say,
- 54:28Speaker 3: don't blame me if they don't know.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Well, Barbara, I don't know that that's fair. Tipping is
- 54:32Speaker 1: an individual game. Actually, the person who you probably do
- 54:35Speaker 1: want to be following is the person who won the
- 54:37Speaker 1: vale voucher for this week. In the Valor Dribblers tipping
- 54:41Speaker 1: comp won the fifty dollar voucher. And her tipping handle
- 54:44Speaker 1: is hot Tips. Oh I like it, which might be
- 54:48Speaker 1: mine was great tips last week. I hope everyone saw
- 54:50Speaker 1: my video there from my mammogram. But not only did
- 54:54Speaker 1: she win the round, she is now number one in
- 54:56Speaker 1: the comp having leapt over. I prefer quidditch. So there's
- 54:59Speaker 1: the two of them. I'm sitting at I think I
- 55:01Speaker 1: think twelve points.
- 55:02Speaker 3: It's hot tips from does she want to does he
- 55:06Speaker 3: want to shoot me their details?
- 55:08Speaker 1: It's a hot Tips. I don't think you want to
- 55:11Speaker 1: be sending to her, but I will say that the
- 55:13Speaker 1: biggest mover on the tipping ladder, I don't know. This
- 55:16Speaker 1: is not based on any science. It might be me though,
- 55:19Speaker 1: moved from five hundred and forty seventh into five hundred
- 55:21Speaker 1: and eighth place now, So look out Hot Tips. And
- 55:24Speaker 1: I prefer quidditch because if it's a nine hundred week season,
- 55:28Speaker 1: I might catch you. Are you ahead of me? You'd
- 55:30Speaker 1: be happy? God, no oh, you'd have to be no.
- 55:32Speaker 1: No oh.
- 55:35Speaker 3: We've got perfect round in the first rouew but then
- 55:37Speaker 3: I've sucked the big one since then.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Okay, I reckon, we close. I'll report on that next
- 55:42Speaker 1: week in the in in our Sexy group the Susan, Elizabeth,
- 55:46Speaker 1: Chathrine and Carolyn in the top ten. It's interesting. We've
- 55:50Speaker 1: had a bit of movement in there, and the Elizabeths
- 55:53Speaker 1: and the Susans are sitting at three out of ten
- 55:57Speaker 1: each and the Catherines and the Carolines are two out
- 55:59Speaker 1: of ten each. So the Carolyns we were doing well,
- 56:03Speaker 1: and ladies, can we please pick up our game and
- 56:07Speaker 1: dominate that top ten. You know, I can't help you
- 56:10Speaker 1: other than to give you some some moral support, but
- 56:14Speaker 1: come on, Carolyns, let's get back there. And Catherine, I'm sorry,
- 56:18Speaker 1: that's clearly me. Well, you are in that top ten
- 56:22Speaker 1: in that group of twenty nine, so and I am
- 56:25Speaker 1: not in the top ten in the group of twenty nine,
- 56:27Speaker 1: so it must be you must be well ahead of
- 56:29Speaker 1: men numbers. So that's where we're at in the tipping
- 56:35Speaker 1: comp We haven't talked about the fourth game in the round,
- 56:37Speaker 1: which is the Swift's Firebirds. The gin was cold, the
- 56:40Speaker 1: company was good, it was pride round. We had a
- 56:43Speaker 1: good time. Does Firebirds tell me someone who's watched them
- 56:47Speaker 1: this season? Because I've been away, they didn't seem to
- 56:51Speaker 1: want to take the supershots? Do they not? Have a
- 56:53Speaker 1: super shot expert. They did some more to go back
- 56:57Speaker 1: end of the game, but there was not a lot
- 56:59Speaker 1: of it.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Yeah, where do you reckon tipp A Dwans at Catherina?
- 57:04Speaker 1: Sorry, I don't know.
- 57:06Speaker 3: She just doesn't give any spark for me when she's
- 57:08Speaker 3: on the court, and you can't have I think even
- 57:12Speaker 3: more so, when you've got a tool holding shooter, you've
- 57:15Speaker 3: got to have someone prepared.
- 57:17Speaker 1: To do a lot more work out the front.
- 57:19Speaker 3: Otherwise they go and double defend that tool person and
- 57:23Speaker 3: then it's just it's a battle.
- 57:24Speaker 1: So I'm gobsmacked they took more off.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Moore was having such a good game, and I feel
- 57:30Speaker 3: like that's potentially where it got away from them a
- 57:33Speaker 3: little bit.
- 57:35Speaker 1: I've seen God play better.
- 57:36Speaker 3: I'm not saying she was bad yesterday, but Moore was
- 57:39Speaker 3: better and I thought she should have been on the court.
- 57:42Speaker 1: What's your take on it?
- 57:44Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I agree, I agree.
- 57:46Speaker 4: Look, I thought the five they were a better team
- 57:48Speaker 4: this week than last week. They were definitely had improvement.
- 57:51Speaker 4: I think Kirie, the coach, mentioned at halftime that they'd
- 57:54Speaker 4: taken thirty one and thirty two center passes to the
- 57:56Speaker 4: post in the first half. You don't get much better
- 57:58Speaker 4: than that, right, So, but turning ball over against the
- 58:01Speaker 4: Swifts is difficult. They did it well in the first half,
- 58:04Speaker 4: but the Swifts just sort of knuckled down in the second.
- 58:07Speaker 4: And yeah, they're just premiership favorites at the moment. The Swifts,
- 58:10Speaker 4: it's how do you beat them? Like it's finding a
- 58:13Speaker 4: way to when you know to stop weki without it
- 58:16Speaker 4: being a two on one which then frees up Houseby.
- 58:19Speaker 5: It's just the beast. They've got a formidable goaling circle.
- 58:24Speaker 4: And you know, they're definitely playing finals, and I think
- 58:28Speaker 4: they would be disappointed if they weren't in the Grand
- 58:30Speaker 4: Final competing for the premiership.
- 58:32Speaker 1: I completely agree with you.
- 58:33Speaker 3: But the more I watched them, I think they are beatable.
- 58:36Speaker 3: The first couple of rounds, I would have said that
- 58:38Speaker 3: these guys are going to win the whole thing something
- 58:40Speaker 3: I think I did. Something's gone terribly wrong if they don't.
- 58:43Speaker 1: But they didn't.
- 58:43Speaker 3: They lost two quarters yesterday so they haven't and they
- 58:47Speaker 3: haven't won all four quarters in any of their games
- 58:49Speaker 3: yet this year, so they're not great yet. But as
- 58:51Speaker 3: I said yesterday too in commentary, I don't think bryanie
- 58:53Speaker 3: Akle will want them.
- 58:54Speaker 1: To be great yet either they're still building.
- 58:57Speaker 3: They've got new combos obviously that they're working on, but
- 59:00Speaker 3: there's definitely some holes in there and you can see
- 59:04Speaker 3: some kind of uncharacteristic stuffs creep in every now and then.
- 59:08Speaker 1: So I reckon, if you know, if you're Vixen's, for instance.
- 59:11Speaker 3: All turn it on like they did the other day
- 59:13Speaker 3: and all play well at one time, they can certainly
- 59:15Speaker 3: be beaten.
- 59:16Speaker 1: Tell you geez. I love watching Verity Simmons and Image
- 59:20Speaker 1: and Allison like there's being the mid court representative in
- 59:23Speaker 1: every conversation that we have, just just so athletic. It's
- 59:26Speaker 1: just incredible to watch both of them.
- 59:28Speaker 4: I was just going to say, I can't wait to
- 59:30Speaker 4: see a Lightning place with Yes, when's that? I reckon that.
- 59:35Speaker 4: I'm just quickly looking. I'm just quickly looking looking. In
- 59:39Speaker 4: round seven, it's Lightning's home game on a Saturday May.
- 59:47Speaker 5: Yeah, that would be a great game.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm not. I'm in Sydney.
- 59:51Speaker 3: But I have got the Vixen Swifts next week, which
- 59:53Speaker 3: is also exciting. But I've potentially got a win beneath
- 59:58Speaker 3: our wings.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I have stick.
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: Brace yourself though, because I have just opened up our
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: social media and there is a voice message. It could
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: be abuse, it could be a marriage proposal. I don't
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: know what this voice message is, but.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna play it. Let's give it a crown. All right,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: here we go.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Today I witnessed an incredible humble moment and I wanted
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: to nominate beautiful Liz Ellis as a wing beneath our wings.
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: Not only is she at the very head echelons of
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: Netball Australia, but she is also an amazing mum. And
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: she's a community minded woman who is wearing all those
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: other hats and yet on a Sunday carnival and little
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: Old Casino is still humble enough to help.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: Fold up the gazebo and get stuck.
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: In the plastic top as it's getting pulled off. In
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: her efforts to help, I witnessed her just on the
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: sideline and taking it all in and not just cheering
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: those in the little Balana Rep team that her daughter
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: plays in, but also any of the amazing efforts that
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: were being made by other teams that she watched as well.
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: I saw her go quietly about her day, and I
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: think that's what makes us all love Liz Alice and
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: know that she is absolutely the wind beneath our wings
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: in all that we do here in Australia with netball,
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: but also here on our little humble Ballina North Coast
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: piece of paradise which she calls home. And we're so
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: privileged to have her as part of our club, but
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: also I guess privilege just to have her represent what
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: it's to be to be an incredible woman and humbly
- 1:01:33Speaker 6: just go about being a mum on the sideline as well.
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: So thank you, Liz, and yeah, you're my wind beneath
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: our wing.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Nomination well, Susie couldn't agree more frankly, And what a
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: great week for have this nomination when she's just taken

- 1:01:53Speaker 1: in representing the game. So Scrunchy coming your way is
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: absolutely and we'll find the best one at the bottom
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: of the barrow. Yeah we certainly. Actually we haven't had
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: you were are your two yet? Have we? And I
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: haven't worn mine From my self nomination, I noticed that
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: no one's sending in voice notes to nominate me, so
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: I to nominate myself a few weeks ago. But Susie,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: we agree with you. Thank you very much. Liz, we
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: miss you. You are the wind beneath our wings and yeah,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: really poorly made scrunchy is coming your way together with
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: our eternal affection and respect. So Lizellis, you are the
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: win beneath our wings, and Susie's right, the wind beneath
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: our wings. Nominations have dropped off people coming on board.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: I think we've got some sitting in messages somewhere, so
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: we will get through those and do a little bit
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: of a reconciliation and see who we haven't looked at yet.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: But please, people, don't forget to make your win beneath
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: our wings nominations. It's deep into netball season, for community netball,
