- 0:40SPEAKER_10: Yes, have some.
- 0:41SPEAKER_15: Yes, have some.
- 0:44unknown: The mafia.
- 0:45SPEAKER_10: That's Doug.
- 0:46SPEAKER_15: I'm Doug.
- 0:47SPEAKER_15: Hi Doug.
- 0:48SPEAKER_15: Hello, everybody.
- 0:49SPEAKER_10: How was your weekend?
- 0:51SPEAKER_10: Actually, long weekend, right?
- 0:53SPEAKER_10: Because we're recording this on Wednesday instead of Tuesday for for it was my fault.
- 1:00SPEAKER_10: Both my boys had soccer games.
- 1:02SPEAKER_10: Soccer.
- 1:03SPEAKER_10: Soccer.
- 1:05SPEAKER_15: It's less good football.
- 1:07SPEAKER_10: Actually, so Finn had a soccer game at five o'clock.
- 1:10SPEAKER_10: We didn't go.
- 1:11SPEAKER_10: Because he's he's been sick.
- 1:14SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 1:15SPEAKER_10: But so he didn't play?
- 1:16SPEAKER_10: He didn't play.
- 1:17SPEAKER_10: But Myra ran lines.
- 1:19SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 1:20SPEAKER_10: So, and we told Finn that we would go and and stream it on Facebook so he could watch it.
- 1:27SPEAKER_10: So that's why we had to go to that one.
- 1:29SPEAKER_10: I think originally he was gonna go, but he had told his coach he just didn't feel good.
- 1:34SPEAKER_10: You know where he is now?
- 1:35SPEAKER_10: He's at uh his girlfriend's youth group.
- 1:37SPEAKER_10: I'm like, are you thinking that's smart?
- 1:39SPEAKER_10: Do you think that's a wise choice?
- 1:41SPEAKER_10: He's like, I feel fine.
- 1:42SPEAKER_10: I just have a little cough and a stuffy nose.
- 1:46SPEAKER_15: You're in a reddy nose.
- 1:49SPEAKER_15: And diarrhea.
- 1:50SPEAKER_10: And the plague.
- 1:52SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:53SPEAKER_10: So I'm fine.
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: So and but then Eli had one at seven, so I appreciate you uh accommodating me and recording on Wednesday night instead of fine.
- 2:01SPEAKER_11: But we did have a cool weekend.
- 2:04SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 2:04SPEAKER_10: A busy weekend.
- 2:05SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 2:06SPEAKER_10: Um, those are harder and harder as we get older.
- 2:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:11SPEAKER_15: I was like, oh, let's see.
- 2:13SPEAKER_15: I'm gonna work every day, and then we got a gig, and then I'm gonna go to work the next morning, and then I'm gonna go to another gig all day.
- 2:22SPEAKER_15: All day long.
- 2:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_10: So I I started thinking, so we we started playing this rehearsal dinner for a great friend of ours.
- 2:30SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 2:31SPEAKER_10: Um it was so it was for I think her her wasn't her son.
- 2:37SPEAKER_15: It's her stepdaughter.
- 2:38SPEAKER_15: Oh, it's her stepdaughter.
- 2:39SPEAKER_10: I believe it's her stepdaughter is was getting married.
- 2:42SPEAKER_10: So there was a rehearsal rehearsal dinner at the same venue that we were gonna play the next day at Big Rock Mountain.
- 2:47SPEAKER_10: So Which was actually kind of convenient.
- 2:49SPEAKER_10: It was convenient, yeah.
- 2:50SPEAKER_10: So we set our stuff up and we're playing, and we're supposed to play for three hours, and she comes up to us about an hour in and says, Listen, we've had um and and it was just kind of a would you say it was uh awkward is not the word.
- 3:05SPEAKER_10: Um but I mean people are standing around having a conversation and we're singing in the background.
- 3:12SPEAKER_15: Um Well, at this point I just equate us to a like a live iPod.
- 3:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's true.
- 3:17SPEAKER_15: Yeah, and you know, you know, nobody's really paying any attention to us.
- 3:21SPEAKER_15: They're just you know, it's just background music.
- 3:23SPEAKER_15: Right, it's so we're getting ignored, and I'm strangely okay with it.
- 3:27SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 3:27SPEAKER_10: You know.
- 3:28SPEAKER_10: But she came up to us and she said, Listen, we've been going back and forth about the fireworks that we're we're doing fireworks tonight, and we have to have them done by 8 30.
- 3:36SPEAKER_10: Um so I'll pay you the full price, but do you mind getting done at 8?
- 3:40SPEAKER_10: And we're like, sure.
- 3:42SPEAKER_15: You know, if you're gonna full prize, get it done an hour earlier, yeah.
- 3:47SPEAKER_10: And then I got to thinking, I wonder if they actually did have fireworks or if they just wanted to get us out of there.
- 3:54SPEAKER_13: I don't know.
- 3:55SPEAKER_10: But then the next day, uh I I heard from someone, did you did you catch the fireworks?
- 4:01SPEAKER_10: So I think No, they must have.
- 4:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they must they had fireworks.
- 4:04SPEAKER_15: She wouldn't lie to us.
- 4:05SPEAKER_15: She, you know, If she wanted us out of there, she was just like, Can you guys be done now?
- 4:09SPEAKER_15: I know.
- 4:10SPEAKER_10: I know.
- 4:11SPEAKER_15: I mean she's known us long enough that you know we're we're not hurt by True.
- 4:15SPEAKER_10: You know, yeah, but but that that and if she really wanted us out of there, she would have just said, All right, you're done.
- 4:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you're done.
- 4:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_10: Uh just the thought entered my head for like a split second.
- 4:25SPEAKER_10: And then I was like, no, they they probably had fireworks.
- 4:27SPEAKER_10: I'm sure they did.
- 4:27SPEAKER_10: And they did.
- 4:28SPEAKER_10: So we left our stuff there that night, right there in the lodge, because the next day was the County Fall Fest to end hunger.
- 4:38SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 4:39SPEAKER_10: Um interestingly enough, it was packed with food trucks.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: That's how they ended hunger, right?
- 4:44SPEAKER_10: Just send food trucks.
- 4:46SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 4:46SPEAKER_10: Here, food for everybody.
- 4:48SPEAKER_10: And so our job w we were on the side stage.
- 4:52SPEAKER_15: Wasn't really a stage, but well it wasn't even on the side, it was in the b back.
- 4:57SPEAKER_10: It was in the beer garden.
- 4:59SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was like it was like the stage is here.
- 5:02SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 5:02SPEAKER_15: Everything's pointed at the stage, and then there's us.
- 5:06SPEAKER_15: In the back.
- 5:06SPEAKER_15: In the back.
- 5:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 5:07SPEAKER_15: With some really bright freaking LED lights.
- 5:10unknown: Yes.
- 5:12SPEAKER_10: So our job was, you know, after a band played on the stage, we would play for a half an hour.
- 5:19SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_10: Uh like kind of a buffer between bands, and so the other band could set up.
- 5:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 5:24SPEAKER_10: And I mean, I think all in all, it worked.
- 5:27SPEAKER_10: It worked out.
- 5:28SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I I think so.
- 5:30SPEAKER_10: It was uh you know, we we couldn't tell like uh when we were supposed to be done.
- 5:38SPEAKER_10: Like we would play for 30 minutes, yeah, but they weren't ready sometimes, and we'd keep playing, and uh we would try and get word from the sound man, you know.
- 5:47SPEAKER_15: It would have been more helpful than if it's somebody had been around to be like, hey, they're they're all set.
- 5:52SPEAKER_10: Right, because we because we wouldn't know.
- 5:54SPEAKER_10: We would be playing, you know, we'd we'd finish a song and they'd just start.
- 5:59SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they're they would just start playing.
- 6:01SPEAKER_15: Oh, I guess we're done.
- 6:02SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah, okay, we're done.
- 6:03SPEAKER_15: Let's put our guitar down.
- 6:04SPEAKER_10: And uh yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_10: So but you know, we did it for a good friend of ours, um, and he it was his baby, the whole thing was his baby.
- 6:12SPEAKER_15: Yeah, you could tell.
- 6:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and uh you s you said it uh from the very beginning.
- 6:18SPEAKER_10: You want to have a successful music festival hire a musician to plan it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 6:25SPEAKER_15: And and and you could tell just from the way everything was set up for the bands, yes, and the musical.
- 6:31SPEAKER_15: It was it was really catered towards them.
- 6:34SPEAKER_15: Yes, which was awesome.
- 6:35SPEAKER_15: It was such a nice, it was a such nice change of pace.
- 6:39SPEAKER_15: Yes, because it's usually people that don't have any freaking clue what musicians have to go through and do to play for people.
- 6:46SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 6:47SPEAKER_15: And it's like it was such a it was so nice.
- 6:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was so nice.
- 6:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he took care of us.
- 6:52SPEAKER_10: He did, he really did.
- 6:54SPEAKER_10: Yep, so that was good.
- 6:55SPEAKER_10: Um, and hopefully they raised a bunch of money.
- 6:57SPEAKER_10: Uh I haven't earned any totals or I think uh all the bands were were great.
- 7:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_10: Um so I think it was a success.
- 7:05SPEAKER_10: I would I would call it a success.
- 7:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_10: So um hopefully, you know, it's bigger and better next year.
- 7:11SPEAKER_15: Um, maybe maybe do it a week earlier when a little warmer.
- 7:15SPEAKER_10: It was yeah, it was there was a rain delay too.
- 7:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_10: I'm not even sure how late they went because we took off when we were done.
- 7:22SPEAKER_15: Well, I had to go back.
- 7:24SPEAKER_10: What?
- 7:24SPEAKER_15: I left my iPad there.
- 7:26SPEAKER_10: Oh, you did.
- 7:27SPEAKER_10: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 7:28SPEAKER_15: I got about I got about two quarters two uh two-thirds of the way home.
- 7:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_15: And I went, oh crap.
- 7:34SPEAKER_10: Did you leave it like right there where we were?
- 7:36SPEAKER_15: Yeah, right exactly where we were.
- 7:37SPEAKER_15: Oh crap, so I friggin' whipped it around and just NASHC carved it back.
- 7:43SPEAKER_10: And it was still there?
- 7:44SPEAKER_15: It was still there.
- 7:45SPEAKER_15: Well, Lauren and Angel were still at that table there with the with the the bouncer Jared.
- 7:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_15: And it was just still sitting right there.
- 7:54SPEAKER_15: Nobody, nobody didn't touch it.
- 7:55SPEAKER_15: I I I Lauren saw me, he's like, I thought you might be back.
- 8:00SPEAKER_15: He's like, he's like, he's either gonna come back or I'm taking that home with me.
- 8:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 8:05SPEAKER_15: Yeah, so yeah.
- 8:06SPEAKER_15: So it was safe.
- 8:07SPEAKER_15: Well, good.
- 8:07SPEAKER_15: But I was talking to Kelly.
- 8:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:09SPEAKER_15: Because you know, Kelly and Danielle were our friends, and I was I was like, she I was like, hey, it was good to see you, hope you had fun.
- 8:16SPEAKER_15: And then she was like, she she she uh she said that they didn't stay for the whole thing because she fell out of her chair.
- 8:23SPEAKER_15: Kelly did?
- 8:24SPEAKER_15: Kelly did.
- 8:25SPEAKER_15: And alcohol was not involved.
- 8:26SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 8:28SPEAKER_15: And she said some guy went over to help her up and spilled her his beer all over her, and the girl he's with was mad at Kelly for whatever reason.
- 8:39SPEAKER_15: So he Danielle and her just left.
- 8:42SPEAKER_10: Uh-huh.
- 8:43SPEAKER_15: Plus, the smoke was getting to Danielle, and she's very sensitive.
- 8:47SPEAKER_15: So, yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_15: So I guess they didn't stand for the whole thing either.
- 8:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:51SPEAKER_15: But I mean that uh that yellow lead vetter.
- 8:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they were really good.
- 8:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:57SPEAKER_10: Well, I heard I oh hard a first first couple songs.
- 8:59SPEAKER_15: Well, when I came back, they were playing uh Rockin' in the Free World for some reason.
- 9:03SPEAKER_10: Because I think Pearl Jam does a cover up.
- 9:05SPEAKER_10: Oh, do they?
- 9:05SPEAKER_10: Okay, so that's probably wrong.
- 9:06SPEAKER_10: Pretty sure.
- 9:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, pretty sure they do anyway.
- 9:08SPEAKER_10: Um, yeah, so Yellow Lead Vetter was a Pearl Jam Foo Fighters tribute band, sort of a cover band.
- 9:14SPEAKER_10: And then you had before them it was Marionette, who was also a cover band, really tight.
- 9:20SPEAKER_10: Really good, yeah, really good.
- 9:22SPEAKER_10: Um, and before them was Smoked Salmon, which was a was a jam band.
- 9:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was more like fish.
- 9:29SPEAKER_15: Grateful dead Grateful Dead meets uh Neil Young.
- 9:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they were really good.
- 9:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they were good.
- 9:35SPEAKER_10: Not my thing, but they were really good.
- 9:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:37SPEAKER_10: Uh and then Wally the Virginian started out with playing all of Common Crossings.
- 9:42SPEAKER_15: And we met the news, the lady that was on before us.
- 9:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah, she was great.
- 9:46SPEAKER_10: Barb Barbara Dumont, I think is what her name was.
- 9:48SPEAKER_15: Milo.
- 9:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:49SPEAKER_15: Yeah, that was crazy.
- 9:50SPEAKER_10: And uh she was really nice.
- 9:51SPEAKER_15: She was super nice, her and her husband, yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 9:53SPEAKER_10: Um but yeah, Wally the Virginian basically didn't our whole set list.
- 9:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_15: So whenever I feel nostalgic for Common Crossing, I just go, hey, there's Wally.
- 10:02SPEAKER_15: There we go.
- 10:04SPEAKER_10: And I don't think I you know, I gotta think that wasn't that's not purposely done.
- 10:08SPEAKER_10: They just happens to be the one songs that they played.
- 10:11SPEAKER_15: Yeah, but when we started before they did.
- 10:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:14SPEAKER_15: You know, as a band, and we were playing the bars before they were even playing.
- 10:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_15: And that's what you a bar band does, that's what they play.
- 10:21SPEAKER_15: Those songs.
- 10:22SPEAKER_15: That's what that's what people want to hear.
- 10:23SPEAKER_15: So that's the songs you play.
- 10:24SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 10:24SPEAKER_15: It's just that's just the nature of the beast.
- 10:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:27SPEAKER_10: You know, so it was just kind of funny as we they started it, and we're saying, Oh, we used to wear it.
- 10:32SPEAKER_10: Next song.
- 10:32SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, we should do that.
- 10:34SPEAKER_15: I think it only did like one song that we've never done before.
- 10:36SPEAKER_15: One or two, yeah.
- 10:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_10: So yeah, yeah.
- 10:39SPEAKER_10: So, but still, always great to hear Tommy sing.
- 10:41SPEAKER_15: Oh, I love hearing Tommy sing.
- 10:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he's just his own thing.
- 10:44SPEAKER_15: He's just, you know, hand in the pocket, he just wanders around the stage.
- 10:47SPEAKER_15: I'm just waiting for him to wander off the stage and you know, go out into the crowd and you know, just you know, go to his car and you know, just keep saying.
- 10:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 10:56SPEAKER_10: Always a crowd pleaser while he's in Virginia.
- 10:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 11:00SPEAKER_10: Uh so and then so Sunday, Sunday, my my wife took my daughter down to Augusta.
- 11:06SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, for the for the soccer thing.
- 11:09SPEAKER_10: She's the state champ.
- 11:10SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 11:11SPEAKER_10: I saw that picture.
- 11:12SPEAKER_10: Anna Marie too, uh Anna Marie was the state champ in her age group.
- 11:16SPEAKER_10: Uh so that's kind of cool.
- 11:18SPEAKER_10: And so all day Sunday I cleaned just to be on, you know, on my wife's good side.
- 11:25SPEAKER_15: Oh, sure.
- 11:26SPEAKER_10: So obviously it wasn't down here.
- 11:28SPEAKER_10: No.
- 11:29SPEAKER_10: Why?
- 11:29SPEAKER_10: What do you what do you mean?
- 11:30SPEAKER_15: Well, I was about to say everything looks exactly the same.
- 11:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, I didn't.
- 11:33SPEAKER_15: Except there's a new bag.
- 11:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, true.
- 11:35SPEAKER_15: Which is very nice, by the way.
- 11:36SPEAKER_15: I like your new bag.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: I appreciate that.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: You're looking at my bag.
- 11:38SPEAKER_15: Yeah, you're gonna need that.
- 11:40SPEAKER_10: I um yeah, no, I cleaned the entryway, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned the living room, did four loads of laundry.
- 11:46SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 11:47SPEAKER_10: And, you know, she got home about 7 30.
- 11:50SPEAKER_10: And didn't really say anything.
- 11:53SPEAKER_10: And then we went to bed and she's like, Thank you for doing all that stuff.
- 11:56SPEAKER_10: I was like, Yeah.
- 11:58SPEAKER_10: You're welcome.
- 12:01SPEAKER_10: That was it.
- 12:02SPEAKER_15: You're an old married couple.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, we are an old married couple.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Isn't that right, Trace?
- 12:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I know.
- 12:09SPEAKER_10: But it's already, you know, the kids have already, they've been they're bit they've been home, obviously, so it's already a mess.
- 12:14SPEAKER_15: Yeah, there's a there's a big cardboard box out on your porch.
- 12:17SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 12:17SPEAKER_15: And I was like, well, okay, this is new.
- 12:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:19SPEAKER_15: No, it's I was thinking maybe there's an animal in there.
- 12:22SPEAKER_15: You know, maybe one of the kids is in there.
- 12:24SPEAKER_15: I don't know.
- 12:25SPEAKER_10: It's already it was loud, wasn't it?
- 12:28SPEAKER_10: Sorry.
- 12:29SPEAKER_10: Um, yeah, it's already a mess.
- 12:30SPEAKER_10: But you know, what are you gonna do?
- 12:32SPEAKER_10: It's a it's a process.
- 12:33SPEAKER_15: It's a business.
- 12:33SPEAKER_10: It's a process.
- 12:34SPEAKER_15: You know, it's a business going up there.
- 12:36SPEAKER_15: There's there's stuff happening, so it is what it is.
- 12:38SPEAKER_10: So I gotta say, uh um, I mentioned this before we started the podcast.
- 12:43SPEAKER_10: I've been watching a little bit more of that Nothing But a Good Time documentary, which is on Paramount Plus.
- 12:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_10: Um, and I forgot how much I liked Dawkins.
- 12:54SPEAKER_15: I know.
- 12:55SPEAKER_15: Dawkins so good.
- 12:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and you know, I was at Bull Moose.
- 13:01SPEAKER_10: When was I down there?
- 13:03SPEAKER_10: Recently.
- 13:05SPEAKER_15: What did I go down for?
- 13:07SPEAKER_15: I don't know.
- 13:08SPEAKER_15: I don't I don't I don't keep your schedule.
- 13:10SPEAKER_10: Oh, it was a game.
- 13:12SPEAKER_10: Remember I w I went to a game and um Oh yeah, you got like Old Town and Yeah, you got to go to I got to go to Bull Moose for like a half an hour or whatever, yeah.
- 13:21SPEAKER_10: And um they had a r I don't know if it's been re-released or remastered or whatever, but they had back for the attack.
- 13:30SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 13:31SPEAKER_10: There.
- 13:32SPEAKER_10: And I don't ha I used to have it on cassette, I don't have it on CD.
- 13:35SPEAKER_10: And I almost bought it, but it was full price.
- 13:38SPEAKER_10: It was like fifteen dollars.
- 13:39SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 13:40SPEAKER_10: I was like, that's kind of odd.
- 13:41SPEAKER_10: Uh usually it's like twelve or thirteen.
- 13:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 13:44SPEAKER_10: Even if it's you know, uh reissue or whatever.
- 13:47SPEAKER_10: But it was like fifteen bucks, so I didn't get it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_10: But after watching Nothing But a Good Time, I'm going to I'm going downstate tomorrow.
- 13:54SPEAKER_10: I might look for that again and and grab that.
- 13:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 13:57SPEAKER_10: And uh but the other thing that I was uh I so one of the things that I do is I get I just get musically I just get in different moods.
- 14:06SPEAKER_10: I'm like anybody, you know, like we just listen to different things.
- 14:10SPEAKER_10: I listen to movie soundtrack, not not movie soundtrack, movie scores.
- 14:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you know, just to relax and and and I listen to uh like new age piano, uh solo piano, just to relax.
- 14:23SPEAKER_10: Um and I listen to some contemporary folk, I listen to a little country, but I'll tell you this week, uh I don't know if it's because of the week that I've had at school, um, I've been listening to loud rock and roll.
- 14:37SPEAKER_15: Like this this week now?
- 14:38SPEAKER_15: Or this week now.
- 14:39SPEAKER_15: Okay, yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 14:40SPEAKER_10: And so um on I I go on I go on different things like Spot Spotify, Pandora.
- 14:46SPEAKER_10: Um, oftentimes it's Pandora, and I'll type in like Winger.
- 14:50SPEAKER_10: And it'll play a winger song, but then it'll play something that similar to Winger.
- 14:55SPEAKER_10: Oh, sure, you know, from that era.
- 14:57SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 14:57SPEAKER_10: And I forgot how much I liked Dawkin, and I forgot how much I liked Europe.
- 15:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_10: Not necessarily the final countdown album, even though that was great, but the album that came after that out of this world, very, very pop but rock.
- 15:13SPEAKER_10: And uh so I've been listening to that for the past couple days on Pandora, so they will play a Europe song.
- 15:19SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 15:20SPEAKER_10: Like today I heard from Final Countdown, Love Chaser.
- 15:24SPEAKER_11: Oh, wow.
- 15:24SPEAKER_11: Love Chase.
- 15:25SPEAKER_11: Remember that?
- 15:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:27SPEAKER_10: Um, and I was like, I forgot how much I love this album.
- 15:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:30SPEAKER_10: And um they have been releasing you know albums up until a few years ago.
- 15:38SPEAKER_10: And there it's very deep purple now.
- 15:40SPEAKER_10: It's less pop and more more like jam like deep purple type stuff.
- 15:46SPEAKER_10: So I don't know.
- 15:47SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna try and look for some of that down there too.
- 15:50SPEAKER_10: Uh I don't think I'll find it.
- 15:52SPEAKER_10: But um what was the one that I heard?
- 15:54SPEAKER_10: Love Chaser, and there was another one.
- 15:58SPEAKER_10: Uh do you mind if I play that for a second?
- 16:00SPEAKER_10: Because I I you know I wanna there was a ballad.
- 16:03SPEAKER_10: Do you remember the ballad off that album?
- 16:05SPEAKER_10: Carrie?
- 16:06SPEAKER_10: No, there's another one.
- 16:08SPEAKER_10: There's another one.
- 16:09SPEAKER_10: Carrie, too.
- 16:10SPEAKER_10: No.
- 16:13SPEAKER_10: Smart Alec.
- 16:16SPEAKER_09: I don't mean the movie.
- 16:19SPEAKER_09: What was it?
- 16:20SPEAKER_10: Uh Time has come.
- 16:23SPEAKER_10: Do you remember that song?
- 16:27SPEAKER_11: Now I do.
- 16:29SPEAKER_11: He Joey Tempest always used to do that.
- 16:37SPEAKER_10: You remember this?
- 16:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I remember it.
- 16:41SPEAKER_10: I heard this in the car today.
- 16:43SPEAKER_10: Yesterday I heard Love Chaser.
- 16:53SPEAKER_10: And then I'm comparing this to I'm comparing this to the the the stuff that we hear today on the radio.
- 17:01SPEAKER_10: Even the rock stuff.
- 17:03SPEAKER_10: There's so much melody in this.
- 17:06SPEAKER_15: Well, yeah, because you actually had to have talent to make music back then.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: You couldn't just, you know, you can't condemn all of rock today.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Or all I am, right?
- 17:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah, kind of single line.
- 18:18SPEAKER_10: And so I did get a um a few years ago.
- 18:23SPEAKER_10: Actually, I remember telling you about this when we were setting up for a gig at the Fort Fairfield um um sports um uh fishing game.
- 18:37SPEAKER_10: Uh we were setting up, and I remember telling you about this album, but uh it it was called War of Kings.
- 18:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 18:44SPEAKER_10: And it came out in 2015.
- 18:46SPEAKER_10: And this is uh where they you know started taking their deep purple.
- 18:50SPEAKER_15: Well, yeah, it started getting deep purpley.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:08SPEAKER_10: Anyway, uh some of the like the titles kind of don't really make a lot of sense.
- 19:15SPEAKER_10: Like Children of the Mind.
- 19:17SPEAKER_10: I'm not sure what that song is about.
- 19:19SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 19:19SPEAKER_10: Um I didn't you know I'm getting off on a tangent now, but I heard oh, I heard this song today, too.
- 19:28SPEAKER_10: Listen, listen for it.
- 19:30SPEAKER_10: Joey Tempest.
- 19:31SPEAKER_15: No, right there.
- 19:36SPEAKER_10: That's a ballad from it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_10: It's like his signature, man.
- 19:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's a ballad from their second album.
- 19:40SPEAKER_10: Um I'm sorry, sorry, not their second album.
- 19:42SPEAKER_10: Uh, because I think their first album was not Final Countdown.
- 19:45SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it was something else.
- 19:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:47SPEAKER_10: I think it's their third album from 88.
- 19:49SPEAKER_15: I think the first one was just Europe.
- 19:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah, probably.
- 19:51SPEAKER_15: Not it was released in the actual continent of Europe, not the Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 19:58SPEAKER_10: But was it called just I don't know.
- 20:00SPEAKER_15: I be honest with you, I have no idea.
- 20:01SPEAKER_10: You know, now we have the technology.
- 20:03SPEAKER_15: Now now now we got a Wikipedia.
- 20:05SPEAKER_10: Yes, we have the we have the technology.
- 20:06SPEAKER_15: Wiki, wiki it.
- 20:08SPEAKER_10: But I remember having uh when I was a kid, this is creepy, I know probably, but I remember having a poster of this band on my wall and knowing all the names of the guys.
- 20:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I didn't like them that much.
- 20:22SPEAKER_10: I did.
- 20:23SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 20:23SPEAKER_10: Um yeah, I really dug it.
- 20:26SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 20:27SPEAKER_10: Let's go to their discography here.
- 20:29SPEAKER_10: I think Out of the World Out of This World was their third album.
- 20:33SPEAKER_10: Oh, I'm wrong.
- 20:35SPEAKER_10: It was their fourth.
- 20:36SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 20:37SPEAKER_10: Uh they've been around since '83.
- 20:40SPEAKER_10: Uh Europe was the first album.
- 20:42SPEAKER_10: Wings of Tomorrow was the second album.
- 20:44SPEAKER_10: Ah, then Final Countdown.
- 20:45SPEAKER_10: And then Final Countdown.
- 20:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:47SPEAKER_10: But look at they got lots of albums here.
- 20:50SPEAKER_10: So Final Countdown, Out of This World, Prisoners in Paradise, Start from the Dark, Secret Society, Last Look at Eden, Bag of Bones, War of Kings, and Walk the Earth.
- 21:00SPEAKER_13: Walk the Earth.
- 21:01SPEAKER_10: Walk the Earth came out in 2017.
- 21:03SPEAKER_10: I'd be interested to see what the what though that latest album sounds like.
- 21:08SPEAKER_10: But they are they are back to the original lineup of the Final Countdown album.
- 21:13SPEAKER_10: Because Key Marcello uh took over guitar for John Norm.
- 21:18SPEAKER_10: I'm getting on a fun tangent here.
- 21:19SPEAKER_10: Uh but I was a big fan of Europe.
- 21:22SPEAKER_10: Um and it's I'm glad to see that they're I think I read somewhere that they're working on a new album.
- 21:28SPEAKER_10: Oh, I'm sure.
- 21:28SPEAKER_10: And it's gonna be like 80s uh heyday type type music.
- 21:34SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 21:34SPEAKER_10: So that'll be kind of cool.
- 21:36SPEAKER_10: Um what else is going on?
- 21:39SPEAKER_10: We have new music.
- 21:40SPEAKER_10: Um there is uh a couple of songs.
- 21:43SPEAKER_10: Ultimate Classic Rock has a couple of songs um that they're previewing, and one of them is the new from the new EP from Motley Crue.
- 21:52SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:53SPEAKER_10: I believe it's the title track.
- 21:55SPEAKER_10: Cancelled cancelled.
- 21:56SPEAKER_10: Have you heard it yet?
- 21:57SPEAKER_10: No.
- 21:58SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 21:58SPEAKER_10: So let's let's take a listen.
- 22:02SPEAKER_15: I like it so far.
- 22:03SPEAKER_15: Me too.
- 23:43SPEAKER_10: Kind of like it better than Dogs of War.
- 23:47SPEAKER_15: I think this album's gonna be pretty great, man.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: I think there's only six songs on it.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: That's all you need.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm not a Motley Crew fan.
- 23:56SPEAKER_15: I'm not either, but I mean, what I've heard so far are.
- 23:59SPEAKER_15: John Five is making it.
- 24:00SPEAKER_15: John Five is great.
- 24:01SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 24:01SPEAKER_15: I mean, that guy's awesome.
- 24:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 24:03SPEAKER_10: I think I I don't know.
- 24:04SPEAKER_10: I kind of and we'll we'll bleep that before we Yeah, please do it.
- 24:08SPEAKER_10: Um We have Young Years listening.
- 24:10SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 24:11SPEAKER_14: Hi kids! Ha ha ha ha! That's Uncle Doug! He didn't mean to fight that thing!
- 24:17SPEAKER_10: Um so that comes out, I think, sometime this month, right?
- 24:22SPEAKER_10: Does it?
- 24:23SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 24:24SPEAKER_10: Uh October 11th.
- 24:27SPEAKER_10: No, I'm sorry.
- 24:28SPEAKER_10: I'm wrong.
- 24:28SPEAKER_10: Those are tour dates.
- 24:32SPEAKER_10: Uh I I do think it comes out pretty soon.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: So the the impetus for that song uh comes from uh somebody said there was an article that was like, How did Motley Crue never ever get canceled?
- 24:49SPEAKER_10: And so they're like, We're gonna write a song about that.
- 24:51SPEAKER_10: Which is a good question, actually.
- 24:53SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah, if any band should have been cancelled, it should have been Motley Crew.
- 24:57SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 24:58SPEAKER_15: Because in their early days, man, they were out of control.
- 25:02SPEAKER_10: Well, we were talking about this nothing but a good time documentary.
- 25:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 25:05SPEAKER_10: I've only seen part of the second episode, but they talked in the first episode a lot about Motley Crue and just I'm surprised they're alive.
- 25:13SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they they all of them should be dead.
- 25:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, for sure.
- 25:16SPEAKER_15: From overdose or whatever, you know, Vince Neal was in that car wreck that killed the Hanois Rocks.
- 25:22SPEAKER_10: Uh I can't think of his name.
- 25:25SPEAKER_10: I know who you mean.
- 25:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_15: And it just basically killed the career of that band.
- 25:29SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 25:30SPEAKER_15: You know?
- 25:30SPEAKER_15: Yep, it did.
- 25:31SPEAKER_15: So, I mean, yeah, all those guys should be dead.
- 25:34SPEAKER_15: You know, to be honest with you.
- 25:35unknown: Yeah.
- 25:36SPEAKER_15: Nikki Six actually did die.
- 25:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_15: For what, twelve minutes or something like that?
- 25:40SPEAKER_10: And you know, I watched that movie, The Dirt.
- 25:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 25:43SPEAKER_10: Couldn't get through it.
- 25:44SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it's hard to watch.
- 25:45SPEAKER_10: I I watched it for probably, I don't know, 40 minutes.
- 25:49SPEAKER_10: And I was like, alright, I'll turn this off.
- 25:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah, but you know what?
- 25:53SPEAKER_15: They're the real thing was way worse.
- 25:56SPEAKER_10: Worse than the movie.
- 25:57SPEAKER_10: Absolutely.
- 25:58SPEAKER_15: I mean I'm reading the book, and they're they're talking about um Motley Crue was in this hotel.
- 26:06SPEAKER_15: Uh I can't remember, it's somewhere in upstate New York.
- 26:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:09SPEAKER_15: It was like it was like next to a ski lodge because they were playing somewhere.
- 26:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:14SPEAKER_15: So basically it's a bunch of like ski bunnies and stuff like that, ski people, on one side of this hotel bar.
- 26:20SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 26:21SPEAKER_15: And it's Motley Crue and their crew and the roadies and whatever.
- 26:26SPEAKER_15: I can't go into it, but Vince Neal and a girl do something very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very un unchristian in the in the involving a long-necked beer bottle.
- 26:40SPEAKER_15: That's all I'm gonna say.
- 26:41SPEAKER_10: Oh, well, you don't have to say anymore.
- 26:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:43SPEAKER_15: In the middle of this bar.
- 26:46SPEAKER_10: That's crazy.
- 26:47SPEAKER_15: That's what I'm saying.
- 26:48SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 26:48SPEAKER_15: That movie is nothing compared to what they were like in the.
- 26:52SPEAKER_10: So you actually read the book that's like.
- 26:53SPEAKER_15: I'm reading the book now.
- 26:55SPEAKER_10: Oh, no, I meant I meant so you're reading nothing but a good time.
- 26:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I'm reading that.
- 26:58SPEAKER_10: Did you read The Dirt?
- 27:00SPEAKER_15: I did not read The Dirt because I'm not that much into Votley Crew.
- 27:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, neither am I.
- 27:03SPEAKER_15: But this is so much about all that stuff.
- 27:06SPEAKER_15: You know, they're basically the the start of, you know, hair metal, glam metal.
- 27:11SPEAKER_15: Yeah, you know, and how they got everybody else was like, oh, poison, you know, saw this.
- 27:15SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 27:16SPEAKER_15: Dawkins, uh, Cinderella's coming in, because I was telling you about how Cinderella.
- 27:21SPEAKER_10: Which tell that story because that's that's that's funny to me.
- 27:24SPEAKER_15: So Tom Kiefer, you know, you know, they're they're listening, you know, because they're from uh Philadelphia.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 27:31SPEAKER_15: So they were talking about, you know, he when he was trying, you know, because people could people were really digging, you know, that you know, what became night songs.
- 27:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:41SPEAKER_15: And uh so they were like, yeah, we're gonna sign you, but you gotta get rid of your drummer and guitar player.
- 27:47SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 27:48SPEAKER_15: And so so he did.
- 27:50SPEAKER_15: I I can't I it was really it wasn't really a bad breakup because they wanted to leave anyway because they didn't like the direction Cinderella was going anyway.
- 27:57SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 27:58SPEAKER_15: But that drummer and guitar player turned around and started Britney Fox.
- 28:04SPEAKER_10: And you may remember this.
- 28:10SPEAKER_10: I love this one.
- 28:11SPEAKER_10: This doesn't sound anything like Cinderella.
- 28:13SPEAKER_10: No, not even close.
- 28:14SPEAKER_10: The singer doesn't sound anything like Tom Keeper.
- 28:26SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah.
- 29:01SPEAKER_15: It's basically Cinderella.
- 29:02SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 29:04SPEAKER_08: You're right, he does look like Tom Kitty.
- 29:06SPEAKER_15: He does look like a, you know.
- 29:11SPEAKER_15: I mean, they didn't they didn't achieve the success that Cinderella did.
- 29:15SPEAKER_15: True.
- 29:15SPEAKER_15: But I mean they still did pretty well for themselves, if you know.
- 29:18SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah.
- 29:18SPEAKER_15: So, I mean, you know, and there's no I guess there's no bad blood between them.
- 29:22SPEAKER_15: For sure.
- 29:22SPEAKER_15: So, I mean, I I thought that was good.
- 29:24SPEAKER_15: And then uh Vixen is starting to come into the scene now.
- 29:27SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 29:28SPEAKER_15: Which is really great because, you know, it was really crazy because they're talking to Roxy uh Patruse.
- 29:34SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 29:34SPEAKER_15: And um she was she you know, she was just she tried who did she say she tried out for, just so she said she could try that she jammed with them.
- 29:42SPEAKER_15: Oh, I can't remember who she said.
- 29:44SPEAKER_10: This must have been in the book then.
- 29:45SPEAKER_10: It was in the book, yeah.
- 29:46SPEAKER_15: I can't remember, yeah.
- 29:46SPEAKER_15: But uh yeah, so I mean they're all you know, they're trying to find, you know, gigs, and they're like, we don't want a chick in our band.
- 29:54SPEAKER_15: And then she finds a band with all chicks.
- 29:56SPEAKER_15: All chicks together.
- 29:57SPEAKER_10: Who are great, by the way.
- 29:58SPEAKER_10: But they are awesome! I highly underrated band.
- 30:01SPEAKER_10: So uh and did you know their their big hit?
- 30:03SPEAKER_10: Do you know who wrote that?
- 30:04SPEAKER_15: That was uh uh Richard Marx.
- 30:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you did know that.
- 30:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:07SPEAKER_10: No, yeah, it was Edge of the Broken Heart.
- 30:08SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 30:09SPEAKER_10: I think.
- 30:09SPEAKER_10: Uh not the Bon Jovi song.
- 30:11SPEAKER_06: Edge of the Broken Heart.
- 30:13SPEAKER_10: Right, yeah.
- 30:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, starts off with that uh organism.
- 30:16SPEAKER_10: Yes, it does.
- 30:16SPEAKER_10: That's so funny because I remember actually we were we were doing something.
- 30:21SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, we were playing a game, you were like trying to Yeah, and I started that song, and you heard it for like two seconds, you're like, it's fixing.
- 30:27SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 30:28SPEAKER_15: I love that song, man.
- 30:29SPEAKER_15: What can I say?
- 30:30SPEAKER_15: I love that song.
- 30:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 30:32SPEAKER_10: Um that's but that music is such a part of us growing up, you know.
- 30:37SPEAKER_15: Well, it's it's really it's really it's really the basis of of what we became.
- 30:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:43SPEAKER_15: I mean, that's what we were listening to, and then we started our own band, but we were listening to other things.
- 30:48SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 30:49SPEAKER_15: You know, we were listening to Hootie and uh Bare Naked Ladies and Toad and you know, all those all those guys.
- 30:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:56SPEAKER_15: You know, that's who we wanted to be, but our basis was his Dawkins, Molly Cruz, Winger, Van Halen.
- 31:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:04SPEAKER_10: You know, so yeah, for sure.
- 31:05SPEAKER_10: Oh, and so speaking of uh guitar players, you mentioned Van Halen.
- 31:11SPEAKER_10: I'm taking this guitar class.
- 31:13SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_10: Um for the University of Man Augusta because for my certification I need performance credits.
- 31:20SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 31:21SPEAKER_10: So uh I'm bad you've never performed.
- 31:24SPEAKER_10: I know exactly.
- 31:25SPEAKER_10: That's just crazy.
- 31:26SPEAKER_10: So I I uh decided well this would be a cool class because I can get my performance credits and I can learn a little bit more about the guitar.
- 31:34SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 31:34SPEAKER_10: Uh I'm taking it and I you know, I hope he's okay with me mentioning his name, Scott Hughes.
- 31:38SPEAKER_10: Just a laid back guy.
- 31:40SPEAKER_10: We do a Skype meeting, it's just private lessons, him and I.
- 31:43SPEAKER_10: Oh, nice.
- 31:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and so every Monday night we do we we talk for about an hour and he shows me a bunch of stuff, and it's just blowing my mind.
- 31:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_10: The the stuff that he's opening up for me.
- 31:55SPEAKER_10: I'll never remember it because you know, I'm old and you can't teach a dog old dog new tricks.
- 32:01SPEAKER_10: But um I it's there somewhere.
- 32:04SPEAKER_10: And I hopefully I can recall it.
- 32:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, hopefully I can recall it, you know.
- 32:09SPEAKER_15: It'll be like alien abduction, you know, memories brought out by uh deep, deep, uh, deep, yes.
- 32:15SPEAKER_15: Deep deep regression hypnosis.
- 32:17SPEAKER_15: Well, I like oh get the probe out of my butt.
- 32:20SPEAKER_15: Every time that's a C major's nod.
- 32:24SPEAKER_10: Every time I play with the syndicate or play with anybody really, I always think, I'm okay, I'm gonna do something different this time.
- 32:32SPEAKER_10: I'm going to really explore.
- 32:33SPEAKER_10: And I end up doing the same things I always do because it's out of, you know, um just you know, I'm used to it.
- 32:41SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 32:42SPEAKER_10: And and it's safe.
- 32:43SPEAKER_10: I play safe.
- 32:44SPEAKER_10: I play the I play within the box, you know.
- 32:46SPEAKER_10: And but he's showing me stuff where I'm finding out how it's everything is connected on the fretboard, and it's like by strings.
- 32:54SPEAKER_10: Thank you.
- 32:55SPEAKER_10: Um I can teach this class.
- 33:01SPEAKER_15: So the strings connect to the fretboard.
- 33:04SPEAKER_10: Alright, I'm not even gonna talk about it anymore.
- 33:05SPEAKER_10: No, I want to hear it.
- 33:06SPEAKER_10: No, you don't.
- 33:07SPEAKER_10: You don't actually know.
- 33:08SPEAKER_10: No, you don't.
- 33:08SPEAKER_10: There's nothing more to say.
- 33:09SPEAKER_10: I'm just I'm it's just it's just interesting to me.
- 33:13SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 33:14SPEAKER_10: And, you know, I'm learning I'm learning how things are connected from the from the which I should have learned a long time ago, but I was too busy listening to it and trying to copy it and not putting the theory behind it.
- 33:27SPEAKER_10: Do you know what I mean?
- 33:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:28SPEAKER_10: So now I'm kind of incorporating the theory where I could tell you, you know, I mean I could always say, I could always tell you what note like if I put my my th finger on it on a part part of the fretboard, I could tell you what note it is.
- 33:41SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 33:41SPEAKER_10: You know, but I I I couldn't tell you um, you know and I well, no.
- 33:48SPEAKER_10: I could tell you certain things, but uh there are things that I'm learning that I didn't know.
- 33:54SPEAKER_10: Oh sure.
- 33:54SPEAKER_10: So it's kinda cool.
- 33:55SPEAKER_10: It's it's good.
- 33:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it is, it is good.
- 33:58SPEAKER_10: Um we have another new song.
- 34:01SPEAKER_10: So The Cure.
- 34:02SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah, yeah, they got a new album.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: Uh new album, Songs of the Lost World.
- 34:07SPEAKER_10: They've released a new single.
- 34:09SPEAKER_15: Uh I was talking to a guy last week.
- 34:12SPEAKER_15: He's a big Cure fan.
- 34:13SPEAKER_15: I was like, yeah, you get a new, you know, they got a new album come out.
- 34:15SPEAKER_15: He's like, What?
- 34:16SPEAKER_10: So he's very excited.
- 34:18SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 34:18SPEAKER_10: So um, so this is called A Fragile Things.
- 34:22SPEAKER_10: We'll just uh do a snippet of this and see what this sounds like.
- 34:26SPEAKER_10: I'm a Cure fan, but I'm not a huge cure fan.
- 34:29SPEAKER_15: I'm not either, but I I do like them.
- 36:47SPEAKER_10: I gotta say, I'm not a huge cure fan, but out of all the new music that we've heard in the last six months, maybe, that's my favorite.
- 36:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's really, really good.
- 36:58SPEAKER_10: I I I don't know what I mean, they're a rock band, right?
- 37:03SPEAKER_10: What would you call them?
- 37:04SPEAKER_10: Alternate new wave?
- 37:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:06SPEAKER_15: They came out of the new wave.
- 37:07SPEAKER_15: Well, I mean, they're they got punk sensibility.
- 37:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:10SPEAKER_15: But I think they're more new wave than uh anything.
- 37:12SPEAKER_10: But see, that sounded like a like a pop rock song.
- 37:15SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 37:16SPEAKER_15: Uh well, I mean, he's 65.
- 37:18SPEAKER_15: I mean he's mellowed out a lot.
- 37:19SPEAKER_09: I suppose.
- 37:20SPEAKER_10: You know, so but their biggest hits were pop songs.
- 37:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:22SPEAKER_15: Love songs.
- 37:23SPEAKER_15: Love song, uh uh Friday.
- 37:25SPEAKER_15: I'm in love.
- 37:26SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 37:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 37:28SPEAKER_10: Um, I don't know.
- 37:29SPEAKER_10: I dig that song.
- 37:30SPEAKER_10: I I like the it's really good.
- 37:32SPEAKER_10: It's called A Fragile Thing.
- 37:34SPEAKER_10: Um I'm I've never been a huge fan of his voice or his delivery, but this is fine.
- 37:41SPEAKER_10: I mean I can I'd really good.
- 37:42SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, I dig it.
- 37:44SPEAKER_10: Uh dig it, I dig it, I dig it.
- 37:46SPEAKER_10: Now moving on to something that I care more about.
- 37:49SPEAKER_10: So Alex! Alex Van Halen has his book coming out.
- 37:54SPEAKER_10: Oh, that's right.
- 37:54SPEAKER_10: When is that?
- 37:55SPEAKER_10: Let's oh.
- 37:57SPEAKER_10: We missed the um anniversary of uh Ed Van Halen's.
- 38:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was uh last week?
- 38:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:03SPEAKER_10: Um was it last week?
- 38:05SPEAKER_10: I thought it was like a couple of weeks.
- 38:06SPEAKER_10: October 6th, I think.
- 38:07SPEAKER_10: Was it?
- 38:08SPEAKER_10: That would have been Sunday.
- 38:10SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 38:11SPEAKER_10: Was that last week?
- 38:12SPEAKER_10: You considered that last week?
- 38:13SPEAKER_10: Well, I consider it.
- 38:14SPEAKER_10: Technically this week.
- 38:15SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 38:15SPEAKER_15: So we we haven't missed it by March.
- 38:17SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 38:18SPEAKER_10: Anyway, um so his new book, I'm trying to th I'm trying to find a date here.
- 38:23SPEAKER_10: I know it comes out soon.
- 38:25SPEAKER_10: I'm pretty sure it's this month.
- 38:26SPEAKER_10: October 22nd.
- 38:28SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 38:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:29SPEAKER_10: Um so he has done a he has done uh uh an audiobook as well uh of this.
- 38:37SPEAKER_10: Alex Van Halen has actually read it himself.
- 38:40SPEAKER_15: That's good.
- 38:41SPEAKER_10: Um this is interesting.
- 38:44SPEAKER_15: I think that should be a requirement.
- 38:46SPEAKER_15: Anybody that has audiobooks, they should read it themselves.
- 38:49SPEAKER_10: I agree.
- 38:50SPEAKER_15: Because I I you know I get because I you know, you know the the terminal list.
- 38:56SPEAKER_15: It's a series by Jack Carr as an ex Navy SEAL.
- 38:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:59SPEAKER_15: It's read by some other guy, and he does the women parts, and it just bugs the crap out of me.
- 39:04SPEAKER_15: How does he do the women parts?
- 39:06SPEAKER_15: He's just he does a higher voice and it just friggin' annoys me.
- 39:10SPEAKER_15: They should have actual, you know, spend the money, get an actual woman to do the woman parts.
- 39:15SPEAKER_15: Because he's he's got a female character in every single friggin' book.
- 39:18SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 39:18SPEAKER_15: So just just spend a little extra money.
- 39:21SPEAKER_15: I don't want to hear you do a female voice because you suck at it.
- 39:25SPEAKER_15: So but it's not it's it's not Jack Carr, it's not that guy, and it's it's somebody reading the book for him, you know.
- 39:32SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 39:33SPEAKER_15: But I think he should have to read it and actually get a female to do the female parts.
- 39:37SPEAKER_15: But anyway, that I digress.
- 39:38SPEAKER_15: Back to Alex.
- 39:40SPEAKER_10: Well I'm glad he read.
- 39:41SPEAKER_10: I'm glad he can read.
- 39:42SPEAKER_10: There are yeah, there are um on his uh Instagram page, there are a couple of excerpts from from the the audiobook, which I haven't heard yet.
- 39:54SPEAKER_10: So I don't even know, and I don't even know what they are.
- 39:57SPEAKER_10: Oh well, we've heard this.
- 40:00SPEAKER_10: This is the the unfinished song.
- 40:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_10: So we did hear that.
- 40:05SPEAKER_10: Um I think that's all that one is, is just that uh but this one.
- 40:25SPEAKER_10: I mean I was it was Is it the same one?
- 40:30SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 40:30SPEAKER_10: It was my understanding that there was some uh the book is described as a love letter to Eddie Van Halen from Alex.
- 40:42SPEAKER_10: Uh entitled Overdure and read by Alex himself, the four and a half minute clip, which can be heard on Spotify.
- 40:48SPEAKER_10: Oh let's see.
- 40:51SPEAKER_10: Uh Heard on Spotify served as a eulogy for Eddie.
- 40:57SPEAKER_10: Where's my phone?
- 40:58SPEAKER_10: I don't know if I'll be able to hear that.
- 41:01SPEAKER_10: Just I'm just curious.
- 41:03SPEAKER_10: Oh, so both of those clips were were the the song that's featured.
- 41:08SPEAKER_10: Um let me just see if I can do let me see if I can search that.
- 41:13SPEAKER_10: What's it called?
- 41:14SPEAKER_10: Brothers?
- 41:16SPEAKER_10: Brothers.
- 41:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, let me do that instead.
- 41:22SPEAKER_10: Alex Alex Van Halen.
- 41:25SPEAKER_09: Alex Van Halen Brothers Audiobook.
- 41:31SPEAKER_09: Oh, what just happened?
- 41:35SPEAKER_10: No.
- 41:35SPEAKER_10: Um, it just kind of said, you can do that, and then was closed on me.
- 41:41SPEAKER_14: Alex No!
- 41:43SPEAKER_10: Alex Van Halen.
- 41:46SPEAKER_10: Let's do Alex Van Halen artist and see if it's on there.

- 42:09SPEAKER_10: Verified artists.
- 42:14SPEAKER_15: Spotify is so wonderful.
- 42:16SPEAKER_10: It is I hate Spotify.
- 42:21SPEAKER_10: Let me go back.
- 42:22SPEAKER_10: Let's try the brothers' audiobook again.
- 42:24SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 42:25SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 42:26SPEAKER_10: Okay, so Oh, I ha I think I can get it.
- 42:29SPEAKER_10: Oh, this is a four-minute sample.
- 42:32SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 42:32SPEAKER_10: So I don't know if we'll play all four minutes, but let's just see if we can.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: Without my brother, I would not be.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: We might argue.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: We argue about agreeing on things.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: But there is a bond and unconditional love that very few people ever experience in their lifetime.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: We're not a rock band.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: We're a rock and roll band.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: Alex is the rock.
- 43:06SPEAKER_00: Music was a hard at all.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: That's what we did.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: That's what we loved.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: That's what we enjoyed.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: That's what we were good at.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: It's also the thing that made us as close as two brothers can be.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: We were connected in every way.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: Genetically, artistically, financially, emotionally.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: And neither of us talk with Catholicism.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go ahead and say spiritually.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: It's very difficult to unwind that.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: It's been almost four years since you've had that.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it feels like it just happened this morning.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: One of my earliest memories I couldn't have been more than two.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: Is that my mother telling me to be quiet so I wouldn't wake you?
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: My new baby brother.
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: You were just younger.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: You were more introverted, more impressionable, and more sensitive than I was.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Always.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: I didn't care.
- 44:02SPEAKER_00: I guess I'm tough.
- 44:04SPEAKER_00: You make a living beating things with a thing.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: What do you expect?
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: That's what you said, and I guess you're right.
- 44:14SPEAKER_10: No.
- 44:15SPEAKER_10: No.
- 44:16SPEAKER_10: Uh well he's also gotta be seven.
- 44:18SPEAKER_15: Well, he's gotta be in his seventies by now.
- 44:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 44:20SPEAKER_15: Um or late sixties.
- 44:23SPEAKER_15: Eddie Eddie was what?
- 44:24SPEAKER_15: Sixty three.
- 44:26SPEAKER_15: Sixty five, I think.
- 44:28SPEAKER_15: I think Alex at least seventy.
- 44:31SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 44:31SPEAKER_15: Yeah, he's gotta be.
- 44:33SPEAKER_10: Um yeah, I'm not gonna play the whole thing, but uh you can find that on Spotify.
- 44:37SPEAKER_10: Uh look up Alex Van Halen and the brothers audiobook will come up.
- 44:41SPEAKER_15: Well I'll be getting the audio book, I'm sure.
- 44:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 44:43SPEAKER_15: Well I'm gonna get probably the I'm gonna get the hardcover too.
- 44:46SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna get the hardcover or the actual book.
- 44:48SPEAKER_10: These days I probably should get the audiobook because I don't have time I don't have time to read it.
- 44:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it would probably be a lot easier for you.
- 44:56SPEAKER_15: You could just listen to the book.
- 44:57SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 44:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 44:57SPEAKER_15: But I like having I like having a book.
- 44:59SPEAKER_10: Me too.
- 45:00SPEAKER_10: I wonder if you can you there must be a package deal.
- 45:01SPEAKER_10: You could probably get both.
- 45:02SPEAKER_10: Oh, I'm sure.
- 45:03SPEAKER_10: Right, you can get the book and and the audiobook, maybe.
- 45:05SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 45:06SPEAKER_10: I'll figure it out.
- 45:07SPEAKER_10: But I I I do plan on picking it up because I I want to hear that story.
- 45:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 45:10SPEAKER_10: You know, that's kind of cool.
- 45:12SPEAKER_10: Um so yeah, that's Brothers from Alex Van Halen.
- 45:16SPEAKER_10: It comes out October 22nd.
- 45:19SPEAKER_11: Let's uh let's do mixtape.
- 45:21SPEAKER_11: Mixtape! Oh, I forgot.
- 45:25SPEAKER_11: That's our new theme song.
- 45:30SPEAKER_11: Is that what that was?
- 45:31SPEAKER_11: A theme song?
- 45:32SPEAKER_11: Mixtap! Captain K.
- 45:37SPEAKER_11: Did you watch that as a kid, Captain King?
- 45:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we're gonna be.
- 45:40SPEAKER_15: We just watched Captain King.
- 45:41SPEAKER_15: Me too.
- 45:42SPEAKER_15: We actually put it in a Blake Street Blake Street Boy song.
- 45:45SPEAKER_15: Oh, that's right.
- 45:46SPEAKER_15: What song was that?
- 45:46SPEAKER_15: NGS, I think.
- 45:48SPEAKER_15: Yes.
- 45:49SPEAKER_15: We just started, we just went Captain Kan and then went.
- 45:55SPEAKER_15: I gotta find that.
- 45:55SPEAKER_15: I gotta find that.
- 45:57SPEAKER_15: Alright, so past, present, future.
- 45:59SPEAKER_10: So past.
- 46:00SPEAKER_15: Past was Did she answer you?
- 46:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 46:05SPEAKER_10: She did, okay.
- 46:05unknown: Yeah.
- 46:06SPEAKER_15: So it was the uh I don't even remember what the It was the Going into Battle.
- 46:11SPEAKER_10: Oh yes.
- 46:12SPEAKER_10: Oh, and I did Survivor, Burning Hearts.
- 46:14SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 46:15SPEAKER_10: And you did uh For Whom the Bell Tolls.
- 46:19SPEAKER_10: Metallica.
- 46:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 46:20SPEAKER_10: And Larry did.
- 46:21SPEAKER_15: Immigrant song.
- 46:22SPEAKER_10: I feel so bad for Larry.
- 46:23SPEAKER_10: He's 0-5, 0-4.
- 46:25SPEAKER_15: I felt bad because I was playing him this week.
- 46:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 46:27SPEAKER_15: And I just I didn't beat him by much, but I still felt bad.
- 46:30SPEAKER_15: Eli's number one now.
- 46:32SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I know, it's crazy.
- 46:32SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 46:33SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 46:33SPEAKER_15: I didn't know I'd be like, I knew I knew I knew you weren't because you didn't take a screenshot of it.
- 46:41SPEAKER_15: Uh yeah.
- 46:42SPEAKER_15: But now there's only two underfeated.
- 46:43SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 46:44SPEAKER_15: Because John got John got beat.
- 46:45SPEAKER_15: He did.
- 46:46SPEAKER_15: So there's just you and Eli.
- 46:47SPEAKER_15: Yep.
- 46:47SPEAKER_15: So now you guys gotta, you know, battle on it.
- 46:49SPEAKER_10: Duke it out, yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_15: Alright, so this is what she said.
- 46:53SPEAKER_15: This week was great.
- 46:54SPEAKER_15: The songs were all very fitting.
- 46:55SPEAKER_15: All three were great songs.
- 46:56SPEAKER_15: The opening of Metallica, For Whom the Bell Tolls, would be the perfect background music for fog clearing to reveal massive war horses lining on a ridge with warriors on their backs ready to rage war.
- 47:08SPEAKER_15: The lyrics in Burning Heart were very fitting, especially the lines Against All Hope, there's so much at stake.
- 47:13SPEAKER_15: Seems like our freedom's up against the ropes.
- 47:16SPEAKER_15: Does the crowd understand?
- 47:17SPEAKER_15: Is it East versus West or Man Against Man?
- 47:19SPEAKER_15: Can any nation stand alone?
- 47:21SPEAKER_15: It sounds like warriors preparing for battle are ready to take a stand.
- 47:25SPEAKER_15: But ultimately I had to go with Led Zeppelin immigrant song.
- 47:28SPEAKER_15: It sounds like a battle cry rallying troops.
- 47:30SPEAKER_15: The line the line Bahalla I am coming is like the warriors know what is to come and what is at stake, and they're prepared.
- 47:38SPEAKER_15: Uh what happened here?
- 47:40SPEAKER_15: Oh, uh notice coming.
- 47:42SPEAKER_15: What is at stake and they're prepared to go to war for it?
- 47:45SPEAKER_15: Hammer of the God of the gods.
- 47:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:50SPEAKER_10: I I can't argue with that.
- 47:52SPEAKER_10: I mean, I thought all of those songs that were all pretty great were were good, but yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 47:56SPEAKER_10: Immigrant song easily.
- 47:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 47:58SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 47:58SPEAKER_10: So okay.
- 48:00SPEAKER_15: Uh so present song is the uh it's your first day of senior year.
- 48:07SPEAKER_15: What song is playing as you drive up to your high school the first day of your senior year window is rolled down.
- 48:12SPEAKER_10: Now we established that it doesn't have to be from your senior year.
- 48:16SPEAKER_15: No, it doesn't have to be.
- 48:17SPEAKER_15: It's just, you know, whatever song you're playing.
- 48:19SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 48:20SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 48:20SPEAKER_15: So I'll go by what cousin Larry said.
- 48:23SPEAKER_10: Alright, I'm gonna try and get it ready here.
- 48:25SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 48:26SPEAKER_15: Cause I Larry! Okay.
- 48:30SPEAKER_15: This was a great question, but difficult to answer.
- 48:32SPEAKER_15: I began I began my senior year of high school in the fall of 1982.
- 48:37SPEAKER_15: I was blasting W I G Y on the radio or listening to eight tracks or cassettes, depending on the car.
- 48:44SPEAKER_15: Bob Seeger was the man back then, and we loved to blast old time rock and roll or against the wind.
- 48:49SPEAKER_15: Foreigner's jukebox hero, Ozzy's Crazy Train, Molly Hatchett's Flirtin' with Disaster, Lover Boy's The Kid Is Hot Tonight, and ACDC's You Shook Me All Night Long were among many songs you might hear before you actually saw us pulling up.
- 49:04SPEAKER_15: But we love to roll the windows down and blast Revolution.
- 49:07SPEAKER_15: No, not number nine, number nine, number nine.
- 49:11SPEAKER_15: He actually wrote that out by the Beatles because of the opening guitar rift and scream as we pulled up to start our day or went anywhere to meet friends.
- 49:22SPEAKER_10: There's a scream.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: Say you wanna rebel who should know.
- 49:31SPEAKER_10: Is it were you done with his?
- 49:35SPEAKER_10: But see, the thing is, is this could be any year.
- 49:38SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 49:38SPEAKER_10: Coming up to pulling up any senior year.
- 49:41SPEAKER_14: Yeah, exactly.
- 49:42SPEAKER_10: Um the windows down easily.
- 49:46SPEAKER_03: We all wanna change the world.
- 49:49SPEAKER_10: Alright, so that's cousin Larry's.
- 49:51SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 49:51SPEAKER_10: Alright, and yours?
- 49:52SPEAKER_15: Mama don't want to go to school today.
- 49:57SPEAKER_15: Extreme off the first album.
- 50:00unknown: Yeah.
- 50:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, let me get that one.
- 50:06SPEAKER_15: Because I remember being really big into that first album.
- 50:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah, me too.
- 50:09SPEAKER_10: That uh that was a nod to uh Unchained from Van Halen.
- 50:12SPEAKER_10: Do you remember that?
- 50:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 50:13SPEAKER_10: The big the beginning of it?
- 50:14SPEAKER_10: Oh, I'm not gonna play the whole the whole thing in the beginning here.
- 50:25SPEAKER_10: Right here.
- 50:52SPEAKER_10: Because this was right about the time when I was getting into guitar um like heavily and wanting to be in the band.
- 51:03SPEAKER_10: And there's there's this section in this song.
- 51:07SPEAKER_10: I always had a fantasy of playing this song before my high school.
- 51:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 51:12SPEAKER_08: Like at a winter carnival or something like that, right?
- 51:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 51:15SPEAKER_08: And that that whole right here.
- 51:34SPEAKER_10: And the whole school singing with you.
- 51:49SPEAKER_10: God, I love this podcast.
- 51:51SPEAKER_10: We get to listen to that stuff that we haven't listened to in so long.
- 51:54SPEAKER_10: Uh so that's extreme.
- 51:55SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 51:56SPEAKER_10: And and mother.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: Mother.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Um I let's see.
- 52:03SPEAKER_10: I kind of went close to my senior year with this one.
- 52:10SPEAKER_06: Ah yes.
- 52:12SPEAKER_10: So I would have this cranking.
- 52:15SPEAKER_10: I mean, I'd have it cranking today, but this is my favorite Van Halen album.
- 52:20SPEAKER_10: And this is with the windows down, yeah.
- 52:29SPEAKER_10: Something about it, man.
- 52:30SPEAKER_10: Just and that chorus.
- 52:38SPEAKER_15: The first part, oh yeah.
- 52:40SPEAKER_15: Maybe the best song on the outside.
- 52:43SPEAKER_08: Pretty close, pretty close.
- 52:45SPEAKER_08: Pretty close.
- 52:58SPEAKER_08: Everybody.
- 53:07SPEAKER_10: So this would have been this came out in my junior year.
- 53:09SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 53:10SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 53:12SPEAKER_10: But it wouldn't surprise me if I was listening to it my senior year.
- 53:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 53:18SPEAKER_10: So that's my choice.
- 53:19SPEAKER_10: Top of the world, Van Halen, uh, from the For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge album.
- 53:25SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 53:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 53:27SPEAKER_10: Um, alright, so there you go.
- 53:28SPEAKER_10: There we are.
- 53:29SPEAKER_15: So Revolution You gotta say the trivia, man.
- 53:33SPEAKER_15: That guitar riff is the outro from jump.
- 53:35SPEAKER_15: Oh, do I have to say the trivia?
- 53:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah, man.
- 53:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah, hold on.
- 53:38SPEAKER_15: A lot of people might not know that.
- 53:39SPEAKER_10: That's true.
- 53:40SPEAKER_10: Let's do it.
- 53:40SPEAKER_10: Let's do it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_10: Let's do it.
- 53:42SPEAKER_10: Let's do it.
- 53:43SPEAKER_10: Um I'm gonna go back here.
- 53:45SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna have that ready.
- 53:47SPEAKER_10: And I'm gonna go to because I need to go.
- 53:51SPEAKER_10: Because we need to do it! Because we need to do it.
- 53:54SPEAKER_10: We need to do some trivia.
- 53:56SPEAKER_10: T U V right there.
- 53:58SPEAKER_10: And I'm gonna go to the 1984 album.
- 54:06SPEAKER_10: 1984.
- 54:10SPEAKER_10: There it is.
- 54:12SPEAKER_10: Oh no, actually, I don't I don't have that on there.
- 54:15SPEAKER_10: I have I need Castle Baldwin.
- 54:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_10: Where is it?
- 54:19SPEAKER_10: Where is it?
- 54:21SPEAKER_15: I don't know.
- 54:24SPEAKER_10: My goodness, I have so much vanhalen in here.
- 54:28SPEAKER_15: No.
- 54:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 54:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:32SPEAKER_10: It must be on this one.
- 54:33SPEAKER_10: Okay, yes, here it is.
- 54:34SPEAKER_10: Okay, so everyone knows this song.
- 54:40SPEAKER_01: But if you listen to the end of this song.
- 54:52SPEAKER_08: I think it's this one.
- 55:02SPEAKER_10: Again.
- 55:05SPEAKER_10: Oh no, it does it.
- 55:06SPEAKER_10: It only does it one time.
- 55:07SPEAKER_10: It does it once, yeah.
- 55:07SPEAKER_10: It only does it the one time.
- 55:08SPEAKER_15: Actually, I think it does after that.
- 55:10SPEAKER_15: I think it goes back into it.
- 55:11SPEAKER_10: But that riff is this one.
- 55:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 55:18SPEAKER_10: Pretty cool trivia.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:20SPEAKER_10: Always like that.
- 55:21SPEAKER_10: Um interesting.
- 55:23SPEAKER_10: So the Beatles, Revolution, is cousin Larry's.
- 55:26SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 55:27SPEAKER_10: Um, yours is Extreme.
- 55:30SPEAKER_10: Extreme.
- 55:30SPEAKER_10: Mother don't want to go to school today.
- 55:32SPEAKER_10: And mine is Van Halen, top of the world.
- 55:35SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 55:35SPEAKER_10: There you go.
- 55:36SPEAKER_10: So those are three.
- 55:37SPEAKER_10: Those are the That's present.
- 55:38SPEAKER_10: That's present.
- 55:38SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 55:39SPEAKER_13: So now time for Future.
- 55:42SPEAKER_15: What is the future?
- 55:43SPEAKER_15: What is the future?
- 55:45SPEAKER_15: What does the future hold?
- 55:47SPEAKER_15: This is an interesting question.
- 55:50SPEAKER_15: What song defines your rebellion?
- 55:55SPEAKER_09: Oh wow.
- 56:00SPEAKER_09: What song defines your rebellion?
- 56:04SPEAKER_09: Um, I'm just kidding.
- 56:13SPEAKER_10: What song describes your rebellion?
- 56:17SPEAKER_08: Give me a few, give me the give me the No, that's not it.
- 56:22SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 56:22SPEAKER_10: I had to think about that one.
- 56:23SPEAKER_10: I know, right?
- 56:24SPEAKER_10: And I'm probably not gonna think about it until next podcast.
- 56:26SPEAKER_10: Until we're sitting here next week.
- 56:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah, until we're sitting here next week.
- 56:30SPEAKER_13: Uh send you cousinary.
- 56:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well that would uh that's a that's an interesting one.
- 56:35SPEAKER_10: And a hard one, actually.
- 56:36SPEAKER_15: It is a very hard, maybe the hardest one we've done so long.
- 56:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, what song describes your rebellion?
- 56:41SPEAKER_10: Is that what it is?
- 56:42SPEAKER_10: What song?
- 56:43SPEAKER_10: What song defines your rebellion?
- 56:45SPEAKER_15: Your rebellion.
- 56:47SPEAKER_10: Defines your rebellion.
- 56:49SPEAKER_10: Okay, so that that could be a couple of different things.
- 56:51SPEAKER_10: That could be like like when you began to become who you were gonna be.
- 56:56SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 56:58SPEAKER_10: What what song uh what song represents that?
- 57:05SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 57:05SPEAKER_15: Or what started it or defines it, you know.
- 57:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 57:09SPEAKER_10: So yeah, there you go.
- 57:10SPEAKER_10: Interesting.
- 57:11SPEAKER_10: Interesting.
- 57:12SPEAKER_10: Alright, I'm gonna think about that one.
- 57:14SPEAKER_10: Alright, so we're gonna take a break, and we'll come back.
- 57:18SPEAKER_10: Take a break.
- 57:18SPEAKER_15: Climb the wall of tunes, and we're gonna take a break and some coffee and pizza and do I don't know, do you?
- 57:25SPEAKER_10: No, I don't.
- 57:26SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 57:26SPEAKER_10: Not today, anyway.
- 57:27SPEAKER_10: No.
- 57:28SPEAKER_10: Uh all right, we'll be right back.

- 58:41SPEAKER_10: And we're back.
- 58:44SPEAKER_10: So we decided during the break that we're gonna change things up for the Wall of Tunes because we did miss um recognizing the passing of the great Edward Van Halen.
- 58:56SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 58:57SPEAKER_10: So I am gonna climb the Wall of Tunes, but I am gonna pick a Van Halen album.
- 59:00SPEAKER_10: And no, I won't pick up Pick for Unlawful Carnal Knowledge because that's my favorite album.
- 59:05SPEAKER_10: I'll just pick a different album.
- 59:06SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 59:07SPEAKER_10: And we can talk about it.
- 59:07SPEAKER_10: And then we can talk about whatever you want, Eddie Van Halen.
- 59:09SPEAKER_10: Does that work?
- 59:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 59:11SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 59:11SPEAKER_10: Let's do that.
- 59:12SPEAKER_10: I'm okay with it.
- 59:12SPEAKER_10: Alright, so uh Am I still reading?
- 59:14SPEAKER_10: Yes, yes.
- 59:14SPEAKER_10: You can so you're gonna read from the Our Day's Right.
- 59:17SPEAKER_10: Hard Day's Right.
- 59:18SPEAKER_15: Through Turner.
- 59:19SPEAKER_15: And the song is It's from Magical Mystery Toy, Yellow Submarine Era.
- 59:24SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 59:25SPEAKER_15: Only a Northern song.
- 59:28SPEAKER_15: A very uh unknown one.
- 59:32SPEAKER_15: Right.
- 59:33SPEAKER_10: Alright, I'm gonna take off my headphones.
- 59:35SPEAKER_15: Originally recorded in February 1967 is George's contribution to Sgt.
- 59:40SPEAKER_15: Pepper's Lonely Carts Club Band.
- 59:43SPEAKER_15: Only a Northern Song first saw the light of day in Yellow Submarine.
- 59:48SPEAKER_15: The song was a sly dig at the business arrangements of the Beatles.
- 59:52SPEAKER_15: Their songs had always been published by Northern Songs Limited.
- 59:56SPEAKER_15: 30 cents 30% of whose shares belonged to John and Paul, with Ringo and George only owing Wow, okay.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_15: I gotta read this again because this is interesting.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_15: Their songs had always been published by Northern Songs Limited.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_15: 30% of whose shares belonged to John and Paul, with Ringo and George owning only 1.6% each.
- 1:00:23unknown: Wow.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_15: This meant that John and Paul, in addition to being the group's main songwriters, were twice benefiting as prime shareholders in the publishing company.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_15: As far as Northern Songs was concerned, George was only a contracted writer.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_15: In only a northern song, George complained that it didn't really matter what he wrote because the bulk of the money was going into other people's pockets.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_15: Underlying this was his feeling, only expressed publicly after the group had broken up, that his songs were not being judged on merit, and that he was effectively only being offered a token showcase for his work.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_15: Quote, at first it was just great to get one song on each album.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_15: It was like, hey, I'm getting in on the act too, George commented.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_15: After all, I did come to resent this, especially when I had good songs.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_15: Sometimes I had songs that were better than some of theirs, and we'd have to record maybe eight of theirs before they'd listen to mine.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_15: It's not surprising that George, who in 1964 claimed, security is the only thing I want, money to do nothing with, money to have in case you want to do something, ultimately ultimately became the Beatle came ultimately came the Beatle least keen to resurrect the Beatles.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_15: That's interesting.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_10: I didn't know I didn't know that either.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_10: Let's turn this up a little bit.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_10: Just just to make different sounds.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_10: You know, that's interesting.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_10: Um okay, so I almost picked an album and then I realized let's just play some underrated Van Halen album songs.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_10: You know, because so as we said, when we lost uh Eddie Van Halen, uh was it three years?
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_15: 2020.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_10: 2020.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_10: Four years.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_10: Four years ago.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_10: Holy cow.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_10: That's so four years ago, um last Sunday, October 6th.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_10: So I figure we'll just I mean everybody knows what what a big Van Halen fan I am and you are.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_10: Um but are there s are there underrated songs?
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_10: Are there songs that you thought should have been bigger, or their songs that you thought weren't as good?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_10: Or I mean what we can go any direction here.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_10: So uh let's go back to well, let's go into the Roth era because I always argued that the Roth era was the same album, almost the same album every time.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_10: Um that's not true, not every time.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_10: Because Fair Warning and Um Women and Children First were were like different than Van Ellen 2, you know, for example.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_10: But they were there were they were similar.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_10: Let's do I always thought this should have been uh released, I don't know if that it was, released from 1984.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_10: As a single.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_10: Do you agree?
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_10: Disagree?
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_10: It probably wouldn't have gone anywhere.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_15: Well, I think it was the it was the B side in 1984.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_15: Or jump.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_15: Drop dead legs.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_15: On the 45 that I got for my work, you're right.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_10: I think this was on this was on the B side of it.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_10: I just I love this song.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_10: I love the groove of this song.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_10: It's just dirty and swampy.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_15: Great song.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_10: Next to that whole album, Girl Gone Bad, House of Pain.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_15: House of Pain is a crazy intro.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah, listen to that for a second because Eddie and Alex could only really play with each other.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_15: Yeah, they couldn't play with it.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_10: They could read each other's minds because nobody else could make sense of that rhythm.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_10: Because it's all over the place.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_10: It is all over the place.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_14: Change it again.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_10: Okay, uh, let's go to Van Halen 2, because I always love this song and I thought it was underrated.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_10: Light up the sky?
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_10: It's but it's especially the um the end of it.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_05: Watch tonight with the return.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_05: Watch my television.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_05: That's my mind.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_08: I had a guy, so when I was at um Hussan, our college, I lived on a fraternity floor.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_10: And one of the frat brothers is from Caribou, his name's Jordan.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_08: Huge Van Halen fan.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_08: Roth uh era.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_08: Van Halen fan.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_08: I mean, and we still argue to this day every time we see each other about Sammy and Roth.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_08: But we bonded over Van Halen.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_10: This is uh he in his room he had a framed picture of David Lee Roth like doing his split.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_10: So yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_08: Nice.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_08: But he used to, they would crank this stuff all day and all night long.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_08: I like the end of this where they come back in.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_08: Right after this.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_08: The outro.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_08: Where they're singing light up the sky.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_08: I think it's so it's dark, but it's cool.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_10: Alright, we're sticking with we're sticking with Roth era.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_10: Let's just do a couple more here that I thought should have been bigger.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_10: Oh, oh.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_10: I love this song.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_10: From Diver Down.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_10: Again, it's the groove.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_08: And they always had kind of a for lack of a better term, tropical Southern California sound.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_08: You know, like a oh sure, yeah.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_10: Like that rhythm.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_15: But you know, it's it's it you know, it's in that weird brown tone that Eddie liked.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_15: And then if any else anybody else that would have played this song, it wouldn't it wouldn't have the same effect.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_08: Everybody everybody looks too like um um Dance the Night Away.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_08: kinda like this.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_08: I like this one better than Dance the Night Away.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_05: Right here.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_15: Off that album.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_15: I love cathedral.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_10: And he always had kind of an instrumental yeah on it.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_15: But this one is really different.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_10: It sounds like a violin.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_15: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_15: Or like a church pipe organ.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_10: And if you've seen Van Halen in the concert, he does his whole guitar solo.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_10: There's a lot of this in it.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_15: What's really cool is if you if you listen really close, you can hear the volume, the hissing of the volume up and down up and down.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_10: All right, so I'm gonna be controversial.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_10: From the last Roth album.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_10: Different kind of truth.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_10: There are several songs that I thought could have been awesome.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_10: I mean they are awesome, but I think they could have been bigger.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_10: You're like like released from the album.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_08: This is Big River.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_05: With that my bad, face in the sun, over Big Baby.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_05: Listen to a seashell, yeah, the sea.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_05: Listen to a beer black.
- 1:11:49unknown: That we will belong to me.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_10: So there's that one.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_10: And then you and your blues.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_10: Do you remember that one?
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_07: Ain't no red house over yonder.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_07: No stormy Monday waits for you.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_07: Ain't no mere doctrine in Georgia.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_07: And I'm not looking for the truth.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_07: And I tell you what I'm getting rid of next You and your blue.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_05: Yes, I am Your baby's power in it.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_05: Wanna see someone reinstated 90 nervous written?
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_10: That that album doesn't get the credit it deserves.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_10: I I really like that album now.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_10: I didn't like it when it first came out.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_15: No, but it grows on you after a while.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_10: It really does.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it really does.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_10: Alright, let's jump to Hagar.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_10: From 5150.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_10: 5150.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_10: I always thought this should have been should have been huge.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_10: And they did it.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_10: Sammy did it with Joe Satriani on the on the latest tour.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_10: Oh, did he?
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_10: They did this song.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, because they'd never played this live.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_10: No, that's not true.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_10: No, that's true.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_10: That's not true.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_15: They did it on live without a net.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_10: That's true.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_10: There was one that they played that they'd never played live.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_10: Can't Stop Loving You.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_15: Oh, yeah.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_10: I think.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_15: That could be.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_10: I think that's what it was.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_10: But this whole.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_10: So there's an interesting story behind this song.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_10: So my brother, when we lived in Mars Hill, on the Fort Road, we had my dad's old car.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_08: Little Honda Civic.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_08: We used to drive it.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_08: Because we were underage.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_10: We would drive it in the back potato fields.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_10: My brother used to take my Van Halen 5150 album, put this song on, and floor it, and go up this dirt road because there was a jump.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_10: And he would take that Honda Civic.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_10: And as soon as it hit.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_10: As soon as it hit this part, he jumped the car.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_10: And sometimes our dog Chico was in the back seat.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_10: He ended up on the floor.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_10: But that's one of my favorite songs on that album, 5150.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_10: But stop me if you you think of one that I'm missing.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_10: I think most all the other songs on 5150 kind of get the credit they deserve.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_10: Summer Nights.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_10: Everybody talks about summer nights.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_10: Uh Good Enough.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_10: Get up.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_10: Get up.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_10: So looking ahead to more Sammy stuff.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_10: Okay, so OU Eight One Two.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_10: I always like this one.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_10: AFU naturally wired.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_10: Those notes that Hagar hit, my word.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_10: I know, right?
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_10: Unbelievable.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_10: Um Sucker in a three-piece, man.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, you want to hear that one?
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_15: Well, I just want to hear that breakdown where and then Sammy goes into that scream.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_15: You know what I'm talking about?
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, right at the end.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_01: Right in the middle.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, right here.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_08: Right here's a breakdown.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_08: I'll say it is a soul made.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_04: He just a sucker.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_04: He just a sucker.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_04: Look at all that money, baby.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_04: And you know the sugar daddy.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_04: You a sugar mama.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_05: Hey!
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_10: Now Sammy can't do that now, but he can he can still scream.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_10: He can still scream with the best of them.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_10: Uh going on to For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_10: Uh this is one of my favorite ones.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_10: I think one of their heaviest songs, actually.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_10: Just one?
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_08: Judgment Day.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think, anyway.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_08: This was this was just re-released, uh remastered.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_08: If I see this down in Bull Moose tomorrow, I probably will buy it.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_08: I just think this song has everything.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_08: It has the heavy aspect.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_08: It has a bunch of different riffs.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_08: Great singing.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_08: It has melody.
- 1:18:19SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_05: Until judgment.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_08: Probably one of my favorite songs on the album.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_08: Uh as is this one.
- 1:18:53unknown: Come on, man.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_08: Wake up.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_08: This should have been a uh single.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_08: Because the chorus is so catchy.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_08: The dream is over.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_10: I take that back.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_10: This is probably not a single, but just an awesome awesome song.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_10: Almost ain't talking about love right here.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_08: I just love how when they had Hagar in the band, Eddie's writing.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_08: Music music writing.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_08: Just took a different step.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_08: Like you had your there was always the the chorus always picked up the song to a different level.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_08: And this is no no I mean no exception.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_08: Here's your pre-chorus.
- 1:20:44SPEAKER_01: Here you go.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_10: Alright, I'm gonna stop that there.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_10: So jumping ahead to balance, this is the last one we'll do.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_10: So anything on balance that you think was Aftershock.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_10: Aftershock.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_10: Great song.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_10: This always reminded me, after this initial intro part, of something Metallica would do.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_10: Like that riff after this part?
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_08: Right here.
- 1:21:44SPEAKER_08: And then it just opens up.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_08: Now a lot of people criticize this album.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_08: Um, and it's not the greatest.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_08: No, but it's got some pretty good stuff.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_08: So like Big Fat Money, we can take our leave of that, you know.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_15: Amsterdam, I can uh not one of my friends.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_08: I like the I like the guitar.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_08: I like the riff in Amsterdam.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_15: Yeah, it just it just drags on.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_15: It doesn't seem to go anywhere for me.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_08: Uh take me back.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_10: I like that song, but it's very Hagar.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_10: Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's um well let me let me play a little bit of answer.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_08: I like I like this guitar work.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but the chorus in the song is just kind of bad.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's blah.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_10: It's blah.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_10: But I do so let's go take me back.
- 1:23:18SPEAKER_10: So this is very island.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_04: I thought I saw you from a distance.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_10: I mean it's good, it doesn't sound like Van Halen.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_15: No, it's not really a Van Halen at all.
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_10: Um I do like feeling great.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_10: But when I saw them, uh, or what I did see of them when we went to Canada.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_10: Um Collective Soul opened, but my wife was my wife had food poisoning.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_10: So she spent the whole time in the ladies' room, and I spent all of Collective Soul uh in the lobby waiting for her.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_08: Because I was dating her at the time.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_10: Thought it was the right thing to do.
- 1:24:13SPEAKER_10: But then we got back in for Van Halen, even though she didn't feel well, and they started with this one.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_10: Oh, seven seal.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_10: Seventh seal.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_10: Just the guitar riff in this song.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_10: In that it was, I think it was the Bell Center in Montreal, which used to be the Mulse in the amphitheater, I think.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_10: Or maybe it's still here.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah, something like that.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_08: At the time where Eddie was wearing like a uh work shirt and a headband, yeah.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_08: Remember that era?
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_08: But just this just this riff when it comes in here in a second.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_15: That riff has a very far eastern feel to it, you know what I mean?
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_15: I agree.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_15: Of course it has the you know the monks chanting and the you know the sound.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_10: So this uh and again, this is a direction that Roth era Van Halen wouldn't even touch.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_10: You know?
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_10: And a lot of people that like Roth don't like Hagar.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_10: Right, you know, they don't like that era.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_08: Um I like them both.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they're two different bands.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_08: Oh, Joe Roths.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_08: I've always said that.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_08: You can't really compare them.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_15: Well, Roth era was the more party band, and then Hagar era was the more like serious, you know.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_15: Not that they didn't have party songs, but they're more serious about their songs.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_10: Well, um, I think I heard I think David Lee Roth was on Joe Rogan's podcast one time, and he said, you know, um he said how do you know what it's like?
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_10: That's episode two fifteen, until next time.
- 1:28:39SPEAKER_10: I'm O'Brien, I'm still duck!
