- 0:00Speaker 1: All right. Welcome back to the complete matchup guide. TJ Pittenger,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Graham coffee with you guys. We are presented by prize picks.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Talk more about them later, but Graham, let's jump into
- 0:10Speaker 1: this first up this week, an absolute must win game
- 0:15Speaker 1: for Texas. They are Owen two in their last two,
- 0:18Speaker 1: both those teams unranked, and they will take on an
- 0:21Speaker 1: Ole miss team that is ranked in the top 10.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Although I don't really know what that means in college
- 0:26Speaker 1: football anymore, but just an absolute must win game. For
- 0:30Speaker 1: the Longhorns and a big one for the Rebels, too,
- 0:33Speaker 1: who have Georgia later, who have some tough games. Like,
- 0:35Speaker 1: this is a big one for both sides, but certainly
- 0:37Speaker 1: you'd have to think it's bigger for Texas.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, you know, everything is bigger in Texas, TJ.
- 0:44Speaker 1: If I had a rim shot, I'd hit it right now.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Thanks for the alley-oop, man. Coming out hot. Let's go.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I do think that this game is more important for
- 0:55Speaker 3: Texas in the sense of, like, I don't think there's
- 0:58Speaker 3: a 0% chance of SART.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Getting fired if he loses this game.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Like I think there's a, there's, there's a greater than
- 1:03Speaker 3: 0% chance that the Texas might just pull the plug
- 1:07Speaker 3: on the whole operation. If this went the wrong way,
- 1:10Speaker 3: I do also think that Texas is probably the most
- 1:12Speaker 3: likely nine and three team that could make the playoff
- 1:15Speaker 3: because of that Ohio state win. But this is an
- 1:17Speaker 3: important game. You, you lose three games in a row
- 1:21Speaker 3: with all that's invested in this roster and it's going
- 1:24Speaker 3: to get very ugly. And, To your point, I mean,
- 1:27Speaker 3: it does feel very large for Ole Miss as well.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I don't want to call it a playoff eliminator game
- 1:33Speaker 3: because both these teams are talented enough to go win
- 1:38Speaker 3: the rest of them, even if they do lose this game.
- 1:40Speaker 3: But it does kind of have that feeling a little bit.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I'm very excited for it.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We have seen Arch struggle. We have seen play calling
- 1:52Speaker 1: seem like it's not all the way there. The one
- 1:54Speaker 1: thing you felt like you could count on was Texas' defense.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And again, I know week to week in the SEC
- 2:02Speaker 1: and really in college football, teams are very up and down.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But the one thing you thought you could count on
- 2:06Speaker 1: was their defense. And Florida certainly did enough on Saturday
- 2:10Speaker 1: to go get the win. Now, if Texas' offense would
- 2:12Speaker 1: have kept going, maybe that wouldn't have been enough. But
- 2:15Speaker 1: they didn't, unfortunately, for them. And I wonder... Again, the
- 2:21Speaker 1: matchup with Trinidad in this defense, sans Colin Simmons, right,
- 2:26Speaker 1: is a pretty big indicator. Jaden Baugh nearly hit 100 yards. Obviously,
- 2:32Speaker 1: as a team, they went over. That's something that Texas
- 2:35Speaker 1: had not been allowing teams to do. They completely shut
- 2:37Speaker 1: down Deshaun Bishop in Neyland. They had been good against
- 2:41Speaker 1: the run. I'm interested to see what Ole Miss' running
- 2:45Speaker 1: game looks like and certainly what Trinidad looks like against
- 2:47Speaker 1: this secondary.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I do think Texas' defense has been
- 2:52Speaker 3: really good. Like, I think that it's unreasonable. When Will
- 2:57Speaker 3: Muschamp signed up for this job, I would imagine that
- 3:00Speaker 3: the pitch and the conversation and the thought in his
- 3:03Speaker 3: head was, you know, if I can produce a very
- 3:07Speaker 3: good to great defense, I'm going to be opposite of
- 3:10Speaker 3: a very good to great offense and we'll complement each
- 3:13Speaker 3: other well. And right now it feels like if Texas'
- 3:16Speaker 3: defense gives up, 20 points in a game, then they're
- 3:20Speaker 3: going to lose. And that's a lot more pressure than
- 3:22Speaker 3: I think any of us expected Texas defense to have.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I look at the, the matchup, you know, where's the
- 3:30Speaker 3: bash rush come from without Colin Simmons, right? Like who,
- 3:33Speaker 3: who steps up for Texas? Is it justice Terry? And
- 3:36Speaker 3: some of these guys that have the pedigree from a
- 3:40Speaker 3: recruiting standpoint, are you going to see perhaps maybe, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 3: them get, some more pressure from the linebacker position, the
- 3:49Speaker 3: inside linebacker position, but Kanu is, is solid in the
- 3:54Speaker 3: interior in terms of like doing the grunt work and
- 3:56Speaker 3: occupying double teams, but that's not enough in my opinion
- 4:00Speaker 3: in this game. And I think if you're Texas, you
- 4:03Speaker 3: gotta be a little bit concerned, not just to come
- 4:05Speaker 3: into this game without Colin Simmons, but to come into
- 4:07Speaker 3: this game without Colin Simmons, considering how well Ole Miss played,
- 4:11Speaker 3: against a Missouri team that does have good edge rushers
- 4:14Speaker 3: and had gotten pressure against a lot of teams and
- 4:17Speaker 3: really struggled to disrupt Ole Miss at all.
- 4:21Speaker 1: On the Ole Miss side, I tell you, I called
- 4:24Speaker 1: some road upsets last week and Calandria let me down,
- 4:29Speaker 1: but Austin Simmons in Missouri really let me down too. Um, I,
- 4:32Speaker 1: I did get the, uh, I did get the road upset.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I did not pick Auburn. Um, but I, I did pick, uh, man,
- 4:40Speaker 1: what was the other, there was another road upset that
- 4:43Speaker 1: I really, Oh, Kentucky. I liked Kentucky a lot. Um,
- 4:46Speaker 1: and so they, they found a way material found a
- 4:48Speaker 1: way to give them that game. So Ole Miss, man,
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'll tell you the, we've seen the circle of suck
- 4:54Speaker 1: in the sec where everybody beats everybody. It's up to
- 4:57Speaker 1: 11 congruent teams now. Um, but the whole miss was
- 5:03Speaker 1: incredibly impressive. Shutting down Missouri's running game, limiting their head
- 5:08Speaker 1: rushers that you talked about. Um, They were really impressive.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Were they the most? I mean, what Florida did on
- 5:15Speaker 1: the road at Texas, what Auburn did was impressive. Tennessee's
- 5:17Speaker 1: defense looked really good from start to finish, man. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: thought Ole Miss might have been the most impressive team
- 5:23Speaker 1: in the SEC this weekend.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I mean, I think you could make the argument they
- 5:26Speaker 3: might have been the most impressive team in college football
- 5:29Speaker 3: last weekend on certain respects.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, like what they got from a pass rush standpoint– I.
- 5:44Speaker 3: Like what they're doing pass rush-wise. You look at that
- 5:46Speaker 3: game against Missouri. They didn't have an overwhelming amount of pressures.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It's not like they had 30 pressures or anything like that,
- 5:52Speaker 3: but they got pressure from nine different players on their defense.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And when you're doing that, I think it makes it
- 5:58Speaker 3: really hard for an offense to know, hey, if we
- 6:02Speaker 3: chip this guy with a tight end or a running back,
- 6:04Speaker 3: then we're going to have time to throw. And you
- 6:06Speaker 3: saw Missouri, I think, really sort of break down Simmons
- 6:11Speaker 3: had some high-volume plays, 339 yards, but it took 44
- 6:15Speaker 3: pass attempts to get there and no touchdowns. Obviously, they
- 6:19Speaker 3: only scored three points. If you're telling me Ole Miss
- 6:22Speaker 3: is going to find these types of defensive performances where
- 6:27Speaker 3: they can give up a bunch of yards but not break,
- 6:30Speaker 3: then this is a team that I would say not
- 6:34Speaker 3: just can make the college football playoff, but probably go
- 6:36Speaker 3: win games in the college football playoff.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I think they're very, very well equipped. And you could also,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I think, make a bit of an.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Argument of like, well, this is probably what Ole Miss
- 6:45Speaker 3: maybe was going to be. You had Lacey get hurt.
- 6:49Speaker 3: They were able to win that LSU game with very
- 6:51Speaker 3: little from him. They were able to beat Louisville with
- 6:53Speaker 3: him out in the second half. Now you have him back.
- 6:57Speaker 3: There is an ability, I think, for this offense now
- 7:00Speaker 3: to have a little bit of like ball control and possession.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And you saw that show up in that game. uh,
- 7:07Speaker 3: against Missouri, in my opinion, like the way that he
- 7:10Speaker 3: was able to sort of pace them. And then also
- 7:12Speaker 3: Frazier is playing great for those guys. I mean, he
- 7:14Speaker 3: had five missed tackles force last week, a hundred and
- 7:17Speaker 3: one yards on 15 carries. Like, like they look like
- 7:21Speaker 3: they've got a one, two duo and that maybe sort
- 7:24Speaker 3: of be the, the blessing in disguise of, of Lacey
- 7:28Speaker 3: being out earlier in the season. Was it to give
- 7:30Speaker 3: an opportunity for someone else to emerge? I.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I, again, the, the week was so chaotic across the
- 7:37Speaker 1: sport and in the conference that somebody asked me earlier
- 7:40Speaker 1: this week, who I trust the most in the sec
- 7:43Speaker 1: right now. And I said, well, I just think the
- 7:47Speaker 1: answer is Georgia still, despite the Auburn loss, but it
- 7:51Speaker 1: might be Ole Miss. Like it's one of the, I
- 7:53Speaker 1: get like based on the, the, the recent performance that
- 7:57Speaker 1: we just saw, it might be Ole Miss. Now Ole
- 7:59Speaker 1: Miss can go on the road to Texas and lose
- 8:01Speaker 1: by 28 because that's the way the sec works. And
- 8:04Speaker 1: I certainly don't think they will, but that's the way
- 8:06Speaker 1: the conference works. And then I'll change my answer to
- 8:09Speaker 1: somebody else. But I really do have high regards for
- 8:13Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Like maybe they've just avoided that wheel of
- 8:16Speaker 1: death that the SEC is putting out to a different
- 8:18Speaker 1: team every week. They got it early with Florida and
- 8:22Speaker 1: maybe they avoid it for the rest of the way.
- 8:24Speaker 1: But yeah, it's a team that I have a lot
- 8:27Speaker 1: of faith in. What are your thoughts on this game
- 8:30Speaker 1: when it comes to man, a struggling arch, an offense
- 8:33Speaker 1: that seems to be rolling but certainly has to play
- 8:36Speaker 1: a different kind of defense this week for Ole Miss.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Just what about Sark, you know, outside of maybe just
- 8:43Speaker 1: how snappy he is and some press conference stuff? What
- 8:46Speaker 1: are your thoughts on the actual matchup that'll take place?
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I look at these two teams.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I think that the Ole Miss offense versus the Texas
- 8:55Speaker 3: defense is just, that's really good. must-see TV kind of stuff.
- 9:00Speaker 3: That's the type of things that people like you and I,
- 9:02Speaker 3: you know, think about in March and April and May
- 9:06Speaker 3: when college football season feels far away.
- 9:09Speaker 1: When we're pretending to like basketball. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:16Speaker 3: But you look at Ole Miss' offense, they're not as
- 9:21Speaker 3: explosive as they were last year in a lot of ways, right?
- 9:26Speaker 2: Like, they've been more methodical.
- 9:29Speaker 3: My concern for them in this game a little bit
- 9:31Speaker 3: is that they have been a team that's lived in
- 9:33Speaker 3: a lot of third and long situations. Their average third
- 9:36Speaker 3: down distance is seven yards, which is 69th in FBS.
- 9:42Speaker 3: And Texas has been a team that's been really good
- 9:44Speaker 3: at forcing third and long situations. They're 13th in average
- 9:47Speaker 3: third down distance face as a defense. So this game
- 9:51Speaker 3: probably comes down to third and longs. which is not
- 9:55Speaker 3: really where you want to live if you're Ole Miss.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I trust Texas probably to still be able to, like,
- 10:01Speaker 3: manage the Ole Miss run game. I'm not saying they're
- 10:04Speaker 3: going to stuff them or anything like that, but you
- 10:07Speaker 3: look at sort of the stuff percentages of the Texas
- 10:09Speaker 3: run defense, it's been pretty high. Ole Miss, you know,
- 10:13Speaker 3: not bad, not great, but I think that this probably
- 10:16Speaker 3: comes down to Trinidad trying to make plays.
- 10:20Speaker 2: In third and long and sort of, you know, can
- 10:22Speaker 2: they string enough of those together to have some longer drives?
- 10:26Speaker 3: And can the run game not pop off on, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 3: at seven yards a carry or anything like that, but just, like,
- 10:32Speaker 3: get them to second and seven? And if they can
- 10:34Speaker 3: do that, then I think you really probably have to
- 10:38Speaker 3: kind of favor Ole Miss' offense in this game a
- 10:43Speaker 3: little bit because– of the experience Trinidad, but, but really
- 10:47Speaker 3: that Colin Simmons injury does loom very large. So I
- 10:51Speaker 3: like Ole Miss's offense's ability to probably score into the
- 10:55Speaker 3: mid to high twenties in this football game. And then
- 10:58Speaker 3: I like Texas's, I mean like the Texas offense, man,
- 11:03Speaker 3: you know, these radar charts and things that I look at,
- 11:05Speaker 3: like their radar chart is, it's very small right now.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It is very small.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Like they don't, if I'm, if I'm trying to sit
- 11:11Speaker 3: here and say, what do they do?
- 11:12Speaker 2: Well, they hit a big pass play or two a game. Yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 3: And that's about it. And they have done a decent
- 11:19Speaker 3: job actually of like cashing in. They don't create a
- 11:23Speaker 3: lot of scoring opportunities in terms of trips inside the
- 11:25Speaker 3: opponent 40, but they've done a pretty okay job of
- 11:28Speaker 3: like when they do.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Getting some points out of those.
- 11:31Speaker 3: But man, I mean, if Texas can't run the football
- 11:35Speaker 3: in this game, I think they're in a world of
- 11:37Speaker 3: trouble because I look at what Ole Miss just did
- 11:40Speaker 3: to a Missouri run game that, has not lit the
- 11:43Speaker 3: world on fire, but like, hasn't been bad.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And they held them to 2.1 yards. I carry on
- 11:49Speaker 2: 24 attempts.
- 11:50Speaker 3: I know that they kind of game scripted the run
- 11:53Speaker 3: out of things for Missouri, but like, do I trust
- 11:57Speaker 3: Sark who has abandoned the run his entire career as
- 12:01Speaker 3: an offensive play caller, when down by two plus possessions,
- 12:05Speaker 3: except for that Ohio state game, really, he did a
- 12:07Speaker 3: good job of sticking on the run in that game.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Do I trust him? If, Texas gets down to keep
- 12:14Speaker 2: going to the well on a run game that really
- 12:16Speaker 2: is not produced much lately. I'm not sure that I do.
- 12:20Speaker 3: And yet, despite all of that, I just kind of
- 12:23Speaker 3: just sort of have a vibe a little bit that
- 12:26Speaker 3: Texas is going to like pull together and maybe have
- 12:29Speaker 3: a bit of a foxhole mentality in this game and, and,
- 12:33Speaker 3: and come out and do what they need to do
- 12:34Speaker 3: because there's just maybe too much talent and too much
- 12:38Speaker 3: invested in this for them to not rally together. and
- 12:42Speaker 3: keep this season alive a little bit longer.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 1: It's just a complete vibes play for me. And again, the,
- 12:49Speaker 1: some historical and I mean, very recent historical, like just
- 12:54Speaker 1: watching the sec, watching college football, some of that, um,
- 12:59Speaker 1: is part of the vibes. I mean, you talked about,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you know, we, we talked about like where teams are
- 13:05Speaker 1: right now. You look at Nebraska, you know, and Oregon.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Oregon can't get out of their own way and has, what,
- 13:11Speaker 1: six turnovers against UCLA? And then their defense plays out
- 13:15Speaker 1: of their mind. Nebraska's defense played really well. Obviously, you know,
- 13:19Speaker 1: kind of the way it's written in the stars, you know,
- 13:22Speaker 1: the kid beats his... his old team in, in Rayola.
- 13:27Speaker 1: But Nebraska held right there with Indiana. And we were thinking, yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: maybe India is a little overrated. They were right there.
- 13:32Speaker 1: They were being, they were a foot out of bounds
- 13:34Speaker 1: away from being that right there with Ohio state. And
- 13:36Speaker 1: of course we, you know, I, I picked Nebraska on
- 13:38Speaker 1: the road. They, they, they let me down Notre Dame,
- 13:41Speaker 1: you know, played one of their best games against Stanford.
- 13:44Speaker 1: And you're thinking like, okay, they're rolling now. BYU is
- 13:47Speaker 1: barely scraping by big 12 teams and then BYU went.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So If you just look at how the two teams
- 13:53Speaker 1: are playing the easy pick here is Ole miss, but
- 13:56Speaker 1: I just, I, nothing easy has happened in this sport
- 14:00Speaker 1: this year, right? From Florida state, Miami to Texas, Florida,
- 14:03Speaker 1: to Auburn, Georgia, to Alabama, Tennessee, just, you know, I mean,
- 14:08Speaker 1: I think that's why Vegas house, South Carolina is a favorite.
- 14:10Speaker 1: And we talked about that just briefly over texts. It's
- 14:12Speaker 1: just like, nobody can string it together. It feels like,
- 14:15Speaker 1: I mean, you know, certainly teams have and done a
- 14:17Speaker 1: better job than others, Yeah, logic would tell you that
- 14:21Speaker 1: Ole Miss is playing better. And they might even have
- 14:23Speaker 1: some matchup advantages if Arch doesn't kind of play better
- 14:27Speaker 1: than he's played for most of this year outside of
- 14:28Speaker 1: that fourth quarter against Ohio State. But all that said,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'll take Texas minus three, three and a half.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah. It's just like that.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I think Ole Miss is better. So Ole Miss fans
- 14:38Speaker 1: will say, oh, you don't believe. No, I think you're better.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I just think the SEC is dumb right now. I
- 14:42Speaker 1: think the sport is dumb right now. And things that
- 14:45Speaker 1: don't make sense continue to happen week after week. And
- 14:48Speaker 1: so if I'm falling into the Texas three and a
- 14:50Speaker 1: half trap, then I'm falling into the Texas three and
- 14:51Speaker 1: a half trap. Like that's what it is. And congrats
- 14:53Speaker 1: to Ole Miss. I enjoy, I will enjoy the fireworks
- 14:56Speaker 1: after on the Twitter timeline. If, if Texas drops it.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I mean, I'll, and I'll, Hey, like I've been, I've
- 15:05Speaker 3: been calling target hypocrite for many years.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Like, don't get me wrong.
- 15:08Speaker 3: If, if this goes South for them, then it will
- 15:13Speaker 3: fit some things that I said a long time ago,
- 15:15Speaker 3: but I just kind of, I do think some of
- 15:19Speaker 3: these games that we've seen this year where like, like
- 15:23Speaker 3: the first one in my head was when Ole Miss
- 15:25Speaker 3: went to Florida and everybody's like, well, Ole Miss is
- 15:30Speaker 3: going to obviously beat Florida, but Florida was favored.
- 15:34Speaker 2: In that game. And I was like, this stinks, man.
- 15:37Speaker 1: This stinks.
- 15:37Speaker 3: And this spread stinks as well. I just, I do
- 15:42Speaker 3: think this could be kind of a shootout-y game, actually. Like,
- 15:45Speaker 3: I could see that happening, I think, We've seen Ole Miss,
- 15:49Speaker 3: when they face teams with a certain level of competency
- 15:54Speaker 3: on offense, then, like, the whole thing kind of breaks
- 15:58Speaker 3: the other way than it did against Missouri. So, I'll
- 16:02Speaker 3: go Texas, but I could also see this game being
- 16:07Speaker 3: one that, like, Texas looks like it's going to win,
- 16:09Speaker 3: and then there's the crippling Arch Manning turnover with four
- 16:12Speaker 3: minutes left in the fourth quarter that sets up the Trinidad, like,
- 16:16Speaker 3: go ahead, touchdown drive. And, and then after the game,
- 16:22Speaker 3: we think about, Oh, it's going to be wild with
- 16:24Speaker 3: arch transfers to this team that just like ended the
- 16:27Speaker 3: whole regime of this era in a couple of months,
- 16:33Speaker 3: but we'll.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Leave that for later.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I'll take the over on 53 and a half to
- 16:38Speaker 1: an extra play. I'm with you. I think it's shootouty.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I think, you know, I like Texas's defense, but I also,
- 16:47Speaker 1: trust trinidad a lot and think they're playing well so
- 16:49Speaker 1: 53 and a half you're talking what 26 a team
- 16:54Speaker 1: 26 27 27 28 like you only have to get
- 16:57Speaker 1: in the 30s for this.
- 16:58Speaker 2: One 28 26 get you there.
- 17:01Speaker 1: So yeah i like it i think that hits so
- 17:04Speaker 1: you want that as well you want to do you
- 17:05Speaker 1: want to.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Double up double me up.

- 17:18Speaker 1: on the PrizePix app and win. Trinidad, one and a
- 17:21Speaker 1: half passing touchdowns. That secondary would be interesting. It'd be interesting.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Florida did it a lot on the ground, didn't they?
- 17:29Speaker 1: But thoughts here?
- 17:31Speaker 2: I don't like that.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Play as much as I like the Kiwan Lacy 58
- 17:35Speaker 3: and a half rush yard play. I think we know
- 17:37Speaker 3: that Ole Miss is going to get Kiwan the ball.
- 17:39Speaker 3: They're pretty committed to doing that.
- 17:42Speaker 1: So more on the rush yards, less on the pass touchdowns,
- 17:45Speaker 1: passing yards, two 43.5. Do you also like the less there?
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah. So I was, I was stupid enough to bet
- 17:52Speaker 2: against Trinidad on his, his passing yard prop in the
- 17:57Speaker 2: LSU game. I bet under on that.
- 17:59Speaker 3: And like, man, it's just, there's a thing with him
- 18:02Speaker 3: where he can be sitting at like 140 yards midway
- 18:05Speaker 3: through the third quarter. And then all of a sudden,
- 18:06Speaker 3: like two drives later, he pops off and, it's, it's
- 18:10Speaker 3: over with. And he's just put together like 160 pass
- 18:14Speaker 3: yards in four minutes of game time.
- 18:16Speaker 2: So give, give me the over on the pass yards.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Arch one and a half touchdowns through the air.
- 18:24Speaker 2: No, no, thank you.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Under and cam Coleman. Does he score a touchdown here?
- 18:29Speaker 1: Does he get one of those touchdowns? If, if there
- 18:31Speaker 1: are some thrown.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Now, I'm going.
- 18:36Speaker 1: To, I'm going to take the flyer on that one
- 18:38Speaker 1: and say he does.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm going to say just it's a, that's a vibes
- 18:41Speaker 1: play for sure. If they're going to score three touchdowns.
- 18:43Speaker 2: He had one last weekend.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I'll get him to take one against a, I don't know.
- 18:48Speaker 1: He's a matchup problem at times. So you just have to,
- 18:51Speaker 1: you have to kind of see how the game works out.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I mean, there is one for Wingo. It just didn't
- 18:55Speaker 1: fit in the screenshot. So I didn't go with it,
- 18:57Speaker 1: but again.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Do you want to hear my hater answer on that?
- 18:59Speaker 3: My hater answer is I've got a friend who calls
- 19:03Speaker 3: Cam Coleman, little game cam.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Because he snap ads in the big ones.
- 19:09Speaker 2: In the little ones, yeah.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Or in the little, yeah, little ones.
- 19:12Speaker 3: 20 catches so far this year, and he did have
- 19:16Speaker 3: four for 49 against Ohio State. That was a solid effort,
- 19:19Speaker 3: but he dropped the deep ball that turned into the interception.
- 19:23Speaker 3: One for 30 on the road at Tennessee. He showed
- 19:26Speaker 3: up in Red River, but three for 18 last week
- 19:32Speaker 3: in a three-point loss is tough.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Florida's got one of the worst pass defenses ever. In
- 19:37Speaker 1: the SEC. So a little, yeah, not just the SEC,
- 19:42Speaker 1: like in the hundreds in the FBS. So brutal. Let's
- 19:47Speaker 1: do LSU and Auburn. I don't know that we would
- 19:50Speaker 1: have circled this one a few weeks ago, but it
- 19:52Speaker 1: certainly is more intriguing now. Auburn coming off of a
- 19:54Speaker 1: big win in Athens. LSU, after taking down Mississippi State
- 20:00Speaker 1: without their best two players, will look to keep their
- 20:04Speaker 1: season alive. And Auburn only has the two losses, right?
- 20:07Speaker 1: Like Auburn... theoretically is just as alive as anybody else
- 20:11Speaker 1: with two losses in the SEC.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Why not?
- 20:14Speaker 1: I mean, at this point, right? Why not?
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Florida's back alive. Auburn's back alive. LSU. Um, I mean,
- 20:21Speaker 1: just an absolute must win for them with Texas, Tennessee,
- 20:25Speaker 1: Alabama still left on the schedule. Um, uh, uh, a
- 20:29Speaker 1: game against A & M. Oh no, they already beat
- 20:31Speaker 1: A & M. I take that back. Uh, but those
- 20:33Speaker 1: three that I mentioned are big. Um, I, I, In
- 20:39Speaker 1: this one, presented by PrizePix real quick, but in this one,
- 20:43Speaker 1: I just kind of feel like Auburn's running into that
- 20:45Speaker 1: same death trap that I talked about with Ole Miss.
- 20:49Speaker 1: You won a big game last week. Can you keep
- 20:50Speaker 1: it going against a very different team in LSU? But
- 20:55Speaker 1: the SEC has told you you're not allowed to do that.
- 20:57Speaker 1: You're not allowed to have back-to-back good weeks. So thoughts
- 21:00Speaker 1: on Auburn here.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, you could say the same. I mean, LSU,
- 21:05Speaker 2: I know that.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Playing Mississippi state without Camario and Bothwell is not the
- 21:13Speaker 3: marquee kind of experience, but this is a sneaky, like
- 21:19Speaker 3: a low key sneaky rivalry, right?
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Like I, I think people forget that there was a
- 21:25Speaker 3: period of time in the sec where this game was
- 21:30Speaker 3: kind of.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Deciding the sec West in a lot of years.
- 21:33Speaker 3: And then Nick Saban came around and, Obviously, you know,
- 21:36Speaker 3: kind of changed it. But, like, whoever lost this game
- 21:39Speaker 3: for a long time was sort of the coach on
- 21:44Speaker 3: the hot seat a little bit, right? Whether that was
- 21:47Speaker 3: Gus or Les or whoever, Tubbs. I do think this
- 21:53Speaker 3: is a game where things get weird. Auburn is a
- 21:56Speaker 3: place where things get weird, as we know. Playing this
- 21:59Speaker 3: game at 11 o'clock in the morning, a little bit
- 22:03Speaker 3: of an advantage to LSU, in my opinion. I personally
- 22:08Speaker 3: got a good up-close look at this Auburn team last weekend. Look, Georgia,
- 22:16Speaker 3: they kind of controlled that game from a down-to-down standpoint.
- 22:20Speaker 3: They outgained Auburn by 1.8 yards of play. Normally that
- 22:23Speaker 3: equates to a fairly comfortable win in most scenarios, but
- 22:28Speaker 3: Auburn made some spectacular catches.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Georgia turned the ball over, right?
- 22:33Speaker 3: And I do think we've seen The reason I bring
- 22:36Speaker 3: that up is not to turn this into a Georgia show,
- 22:38Speaker 3: but like we've seen Sam Levitt turn the ball over
- 22:41Speaker 3: this year.
- 22:43Speaker 2: And we, we've seen this, you know.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Like I, I don't know how Auburn scores in this
- 22:52Speaker 3: game a little bit. Like I think LSU's defense is,
- 22:55Speaker 3: is the thing I know about in this game, but
- 22:57Speaker 3: I do see a world after watching Auburn's defense last
- 23:01Speaker 3: weekend where I think Auburn's defense is can handle some
- 23:06Speaker 3: of the mobile threat of Levitt, you know, got some,
- 23:09Speaker 3: some good pieces in the secondary. I think they can
- 23:12Speaker 3: keep this game close and at home, you know, can
- 23:16Speaker 3: you get a break? Can you get plus two in
- 23:18Speaker 3: the turnover column and go to the fourth quarter in.
- 23:21Speaker 2: A seven point game?
- 23:21Speaker 3: Cause like I do, I do wonder where LSU's headspace is.
- 23:25Speaker 3: If you get them into the fourth quarter in a
- 23:26Speaker 3: one possession game, the two times that's happened to them
- 23:29Speaker 3: this year, they've lost.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah. The, the, I mean, I thought immediately about the
- 23:35Speaker 1: Kentucky game, but then obviously Ole Miss too. Now, certainly
- 23:37Speaker 1: a little bit different there because of what Trinidad does
- 23:41Speaker 1: late in games. But yeah, that Kentucky one, they just
- 23:43Speaker 1: kind of looked a little, a little wide eyed, you know,
- 23:47Speaker 1: a little like, and again, Kentucky's good. I'm certainly not
- 23:50Speaker 1: trying to crap on them. They've had a great story
- 23:52Speaker 1: and a great season so far this year. And Will Stein,
- 23:54Speaker 1: I think it's, Would you call him so far the
- 23:58Speaker 1: best hire in the SEC? I mean, hard to argue
- 24:00Speaker 1: with that.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Maybe the best hire in the country, honestly.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Him or Bob Chesney. I will say, shout out to
- 24:07Speaker 1: Jim Knowles, though. If we're talking hires, to go from
- 24:12Speaker 1: worst to first. But head coaches, certainly Stein Chesney, way
- 24:16Speaker 1: out there. But they did. They blinked in that fourth
- 24:21Speaker 1: quarter against Kentucky. I do wonder from the Auburn perspective,
- 24:26Speaker 1: If not for the Georgia mistakes, is LSU going to
- 24:32Speaker 1: give you those same opportunities? And that's, that's the big
- 24:35Speaker 1: question because if they don't lining up, I think I
- 24:40Speaker 1: lean LSU here. So six and a half on the
- 24:43Speaker 1: road in the sec right now, seven and a half
- 24:46Speaker 1: right now.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:48Speaker 1: It feels like a lot, but can your offense do
- 24:51Speaker 1: enough if they're not getting the, those extra possessions? Um,
- 24:55Speaker 1: and that would be my question for sure. And let's
- 24:58Speaker 1: use defense. Sorry to throw six things at you at once.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And let's use defense also home and away. Very different animal. Right.
- 25:04Speaker 2: So that's interesting. Yeah. That's a good point.
- 25:06Speaker 1: That's something else I think about. So yeah. Answer those
- 25:09Speaker 1: 18 questions at once.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Well, I do think that Kentucky kind of put a
- 25:14Speaker 3: little bit of a recipe on, on tape for, for
- 25:17Speaker 3: Auburn in terms of this LSU defense.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Like, cause I, I think Kenny Minchie has been good.
- 25:24Speaker 3: but it's not like they've been this big explosive passing game.
- 25:27Speaker 3: It's not like they're hitting 70 yard pass plays and,
- 25:30Speaker 3: and really.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Like dynamic in that way.
- 25:34Speaker 3: What Auburn does is very much like they live on
- 25:41Speaker 3: crossers and eight to 12 yard curl routes and like
- 25:46Speaker 3: little tight end leak outs and things. And, I was
- 25:50Speaker 3: skeptical of that as they came into the Georgia game
- 25:53Speaker 3: last weekend. But when you can get that working with
- 25:59Speaker 3: as physical as Byron Brown is, it does have the
- 26:01Speaker 3: effect of being able to pull defenders and linebackers out
- 26:05Speaker 3: of the middle of the field and kind of create
- 26:07Speaker 3: that conflict where Brown can step up.
- 26:10Speaker 2: And that guy's very hard to tackle. He's very hard
- 26:11Speaker 2: to sack. I mean, Georgia sacked him.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Five times in terms of tackling them behind the line
- 26:17Speaker 3: of scrimmage, there was probably another five times where like,
- 26:20Speaker 3: they should have sacked.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Him or they, they hit him in some way and
- 26:24Speaker 2: forced him out.
- 26:25Speaker 3: But like, he gets back to a one yard loss
- 26:28Speaker 3: every time instead of it being second and 18. So
- 26:31Speaker 3: I do think that Auburn is really hard to throw
- 26:33Speaker 3: off schedule. And I think that they're an offense that's
- 26:35Speaker 3: designed to stay on schedule. I, I look at LSU defensively, um,
- 26:44Speaker 3: They've been really good against the pass, but I don't
- 26:47Speaker 3: know how much of that is a product of who
- 26:51Speaker 3: they've faced. It's like, you know, Clemson's not a good
- 26:55Speaker 3: passing team. Mississippi State without Camario, not a good passing team.
- 26:59Speaker 3: McNeese and whoever they've played out of conference, not a
- 27:02Speaker 3: good passing team. And then Kentucky did have success on
- 27:04Speaker 3: them through the air, right? And so, and obviously Trinidad did.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I don't think that Ole Miss is good, or I'm sorry,
- 27:13Speaker 3: I don't think that LSU is going to give up
- 27:16Speaker 3: like the big bombs in this game, but I don't
- 27:19Speaker 3: think that's how Auburn wants to play anyways. And I,
- 27:21Speaker 3: I do think that Auburn, you know, you look at
- 27:25Speaker 3: LSU's defense sixth nationally in past success rate allowed, but
- 27:31Speaker 3: they're 67th in rush success rate allowed. And, you know, they,
- 27:36Speaker 3: they actually, when you kind of look at them as
- 27:39Speaker 3: a defense statistically, they're very, very, very great to elite
- 27:44Speaker 3: in a lot of areas, but one of the areas
- 27:46Speaker 3: that they're not.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Is rush explosiveness percentage.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Like, so I, I do think Auburn really this game,
- 27:55Speaker 3: if they can keep this game within the range of like, Hey,
- 28:00Speaker 3: we're here.
- 28:01Speaker 2: We are within four.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Here we are within seven or here we are within
- 28:04Speaker 3: 10 and not turn it into a spot of here.
- 28:07Speaker 3: We are down 17, 15, And now we're going to
- 28:10Speaker 3: try and pass and we're going to try and get tempo.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And like, that's not going to work for them, but
- 28:16Speaker 3: if they can lean on Byron Brown's legs, like, I
- 28:18Speaker 3: don't think people are talking enough about how good he's
- 28:23Speaker 3: played in like, we all knew what he did at
- 28:26Speaker 3: you USF and all that. But I think within the
- 28:28Speaker 3: framework of this offense, he's truly had to, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 3: carry a load and he's done it in the sec, right?
- 28:37Speaker 3: Like he, he had, uh, five-plus yards after contact per
- 28:42Speaker 3: rush attempt a couple different times in SEC play this year.
- 28:46Speaker 3: He broke seven different tackles against Vandy. He broke, I think,
- 28:51Speaker 3: six tackles against Georgia. This guy is not just doing
- 28:56Speaker 3: it against bad teams. He's going and breaking tackles against
- 29:00Speaker 3: first-round Georgia linebackers and stuff. I think he has an
- 29:06Speaker 3: element to him where If Auburn can keep this game
- 29:10Speaker 3: in a range where they can ride his legs and
- 29:12Speaker 3: keep those legs as a threat, then they have a
- 29:15Speaker 3: shot to shorten it. They have a shot to run
- 29:16Speaker 3: the ball. They have a shot to do some things
- 29:19Speaker 3: off of that. And maybe they can get lucky.
- 29:24Speaker 1: What is the matchup, and then we'll predict it, what
- 29:27Speaker 1: is the matchup for Auburn that worries you the most?
- 29:32Speaker 1: So what does LSU do that scares you the most
- 29:35Speaker 1: if you're Auburn?
- 29:37Speaker 2: I mean, I think.
- 29:41Speaker 2: You're probably a little bit concerned if you're Auburn about
- 29:46Speaker 2: the way that LSU has stayed on schedule offensively, right? Like,
- 29:54Speaker 2: I mean, they've been.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Typical Lane and Charlie, yeah.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Right, they've been pretty efficient Passing the ball. Maybe... And then, honestly.
- 30:05Speaker 3: There's been all this talk lately around.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Like.
- 30:07Speaker 3: I saw some talk again today at Lane's press conference
- 30:10Speaker 3: of someone asking him about, like, oh, well, why don't
- 30:14Speaker 3: you go for fourth downs as much anymore? Which, of course,
- 30:17Speaker 3: in typical Lane fashion, like, he'll go drop nuts on
- 30:19Speaker 3: Saturday and.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Go for, like... Go for it five times.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Three fourths and fours.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Once in his own territory, you know?
- 30:26Speaker 2: And probably get them all. So... I would not like
- 30:31Speaker 2: that if I was Auburn.
- 30:34Speaker 3: But I do think that, man, I mean, you look
- 30:38Speaker 3: at LSU situationally and they've been.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Pretty balanced, honestly. Like, I mean, they can pass the
- 30:47Speaker 2: ball efficiently.
- 30:48Speaker 3: They can run the ball pretty efficiently at times. I
- 30:53Speaker 3: don't know that it's the LSU offense against the Auburn
- 30:58Speaker 3: defense that worries you as much.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I am curious what I thought when.
- 31:06Speaker 3: I previewed Auburn ahead of the Georgia game was that
- 31:10Speaker 3: this is an Auburn defense that gets a decent amount
- 31:13Speaker 3: of stuffed runs, but as the game goes on, they're
- 31:16Speaker 3: pretty thin in the front seven. They don't have a
- 31:19Speaker 3: bunch of bodies to rotate in, and if you can
- 31:21Speaker 3: get to about 35 carries on them, they start to
- 31:24Speaker 3: bust some explosive runs. You saw Tennessee do that against them, right?
- 31:29Speaker 3: And Georgia got scripted.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Out of that, right?
- 31:32Speaker 3: Like Georgia only gave the ball to their running backs
- 31:34Speaker 3: 19 times last Saturday, which was great for Auburn. So
- 31:40Speaker 3: I I'm interested to see you do lane and Charlie
- 31:42Speaker 3: stay committed to the run. Cause I, I don't want
- 31:44Speaker 3: to sit here and act like I think that LSU
- 31:47Speaker 3: is going to slice and dice them for four quarters.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Cause they're not, but if they can just land enough
- 31:53Speaker 3: body blows and keep possession of the football and run
- 31:55Speaker 3: the ball, and get to the fourth quarter and be at,
- 31:59Speaker 3: you know, 30, 32 carries, especially with what Levitt's legs
- 32:03Speaker 3: do in terms of just making you chase him to
- 32:05Speaker 3: the sidelines and the kind of cumulative exhaustive effect of that,
- 32:09Speaker 3: then I like LSU's chances to get to the fourth
- 32:13Speaker 3: quarter and bust, you know, maybe they bust that 30,
- 32:16Speaker 3: 40 yard run after they've struggled at times in the
- 32:19Speaker 3: red zone or something in this game.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And that's kind of what cracks it up.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I would not be surprised with anything in this one. Again,
- 32:29Speaker 1: I shouldn't even have said that. Like I won't be
- 32:31Speaker 1: surprised by anything that happens in college football this weekend
- 32:34Speaker 1: or any weekend for the rest of the year. But
- 32:36Speaker 1: I do think LSU probably comes out and plays a
- 32:37Speaker 1: little hungrier, plays a little bit more desperate. And I
- 32:42Speaker 1: wonder how much that, you know, Lane coaching this for
- 32:47Speaker 1: the opportunity to continue to be in playoff discussions. I
- 32:50Speaker 1: don't know that they can make it at nine and
- 32:51Speaker 1: three with all the other teams that are up here
- 32:54Speaker 1: and have better records than we were expecting at this point.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I don't want to say never, but because if they
- 33:00Speaker 1: beat Texas and Tennessee on the road and Bama, then yeah,
- 33:04Speaker 1: they'll be considered. But I'll take Auburn to cover. Give
- 33:08Speaker 1: me the LSU money line. I like LSU to win.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Give me Auburn to cover in this one.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I'm in the same boat. I think that, especially at
- 33:17Speaker 2: plus seven and a half.
- 33:19Speaker 1: If it's six and a half, I might go the
- 33:21Speaker 1: other way.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels like a touchdown game in a lot
- 33:24Speaker 3: of ways. I also– I do lean under in this game.
- 33:28Speaker 3: Fifty and a half feels like a lot of points
- 33:31Speaker 3: with this Auburn offense.
- 33:34Speaker 2: You know, maybe there's turnovers and different things that can happen.
- 33:40Speaker 3: But, yeah, I do feel like they're an offense that–
- 33:47Speaker 3: against this LSU defense is probably going to kick a
- 33:49Speaker 3: lot of field goals and maybe go for a fourth
- 33:51Speaker 3: down and in the red zone or somewhere inside the LSU.
- 33:54Speaker 2: 30 that they don't get that ends in no points.
- 33:56Speaker 1: And that, that swings you under, in my opinion, I, uh, yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 1: I'll make the under an official play too. So we,
- 34:03Speaker 1: we were in complete agreement on, on everything this week.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Last time we definitely fade us.
- 34:08Speaker 1: If you're watching this, then I was going to say,
- 34:10Speaker 1: we're going to gain it real quick. Last time we
- 34:12Speaker 1: were out here, we both took the UGA money line
- 34:14Speaker 1: on the road in Tuscaloosa. We hit on that. We
- 34:17Speaker 1: both took Oklahoma. You took them on the money line.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I took them to cover. So we both won, but
- 34:23Speaker 1: you were a little bit more accurate there. I think
- 34:27Speaker 1: you took Indiana. You took Nebraska, and I took Indiana.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I took Nebraska to cover.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Yeah, correct, correct.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Did they cover? They did.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Yeah, seven and a half. So, yeah, they led the
- 34:38Speaker 1: whole thing. They lost.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I remember they led. Yeah. I just, what was it?
- 34:42Speaker 2: I forget.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Seven and a half. So yeah, we've been pretty good. Um, Indiana,
- 34:48Speaker 1: if you were going to win, cover the spread, please. Um,
- 34:51Speaker 1: so we'll see how this week goes again.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 1: If you're watching this on replay, fade us for sure. But, uh,
- 34:57Speaker 1: let's finish up with this. The playoff is interesting and
- 35:00Speaker 1: I want to get to the 24 team. I want
- 35:02Speaker 1: to get to the 24 team because I need that
- 35:05Speaker 1: as a soundbite on here. I don't, I don't have it,
- 35:07Speaker 1: but this is the best I can do. Um, the
- 35:10Speaker 1: 24 team is something that I know you've had a
- 35:12Speaker 1: lot of thoughts on. Honestly, I don't want to spend
- 35:15Speaker 1: a lot of time on that because I think everybody
- 35:16Speaker 1: in the world agrees on that, except for the people that,
- 35:18Speaker 1: that are making the decisions. Um, so I do want
- 35:22Speaker 1: to talk about this year's playoff. I, I know we
- 35:26Speaker 1: focus a lot, sec, big 10, Miami, Notre Dame. And
- 35:32Speaker 1: I think there's a really interesting scenario happening in the
- 35:34Speaker 1: big 12 right now that could really make it chaotic
- 35:37Speaker 1: once we get there. you just had the week of
- 35:39Speaker 1: death in the sec. You had Notre Dame take a loss.
- 35:42Speaker 1: You had Miami, not quite look great though. They're still
- 35:45Speaker 1: in really good position within the ACC and looking at
- 35:47Speaker 1: their conference schedule. And you've, got a big 12 scenario
- 35:52Speaker 1: that I think is crazy. This is presented by prize
- 35:54Speaker 1: picks more on them in a bit, but, uh, right
- 35:57Speaker 1: now BYU beating Notre Dame really opened things up for
- 36:01Speaker 1: that conference to get multiple teams into the playoff. And
- 36:04Speaker 1: I don't know, I think the over under on teams
- 36:07Speaker 1: getting into the playoff for the big 12. Now this
- 36:09Speaker 1: could change in a week if they have a week,
- 36:11Speaker 1: just like, um, yeah, it's two and a half to me.
- 36:15Speaker 1: It's like, I mean, which you put up the three, um,
- 36:17Speaker 1: because I guess you, you don't have a nub on
- 36:19Speaker 1: either of your hands. So, You did put up the full,
- 36:22Speaker 1: the full three and do it. BYU beating Notre Dame.
- 36:27Speaker 1: And then Utah being undefeated right now, Texas tech being
- 36:31Speaker 1: undefeated and starting to, I don't know if they quite
- 36:33Speaker 1: look like they did last year, but starting to round
- 36:35Speaker 1: a little bit more in a form where I don't
- 36:37Speaker 1: think you look at anybody on Texas tech schedule and say, Oh,
- 36:39Speaker 1: there's the, there's the loss, right? They, they, they look
- 36:44Speaker 1: like a team that's going to go undefeated. If we
- 36:46Speaker 1: end up with a scenario where Utah wins at home
- 36:49Speaker 1: against BYU and Texas Tech goes undefeated, and you've got
- 36:52Speaker 1: two– now Houston and Utah play this weekend, so we'll
- 36:55Speaker 1: see if we don't correct this with Willie Fritz and
- 36:58Speaker 1: them kind of throwing a wrench into things. Utah wins
- 37:00Speaker 1: at home against BYU, beats Houston this weekend, and Texas
- 37:05Speaker 1: Tech wins out. If you have two 12-0 teams going
- 37:09Speaker 1: to the Big 12 title game, they both have to
- 37:12Speaker 1: make it in. And BYU– with an 11-1 record and
- 37:16Speaker 1: a win against Notre Dame and their only loss being
- 37:19Speaker 1: on the road against a rival, which will also be
- 37:21Speaker 1: a top-five team in Utah, you cannot leave them out either. Like,
- 37:27Speaker 1: I don't know who you leave out in that scenario. Now,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I know we play the game of is it more deserving,
- 37:32Speaker 1: is it resume? I don't know, man. Is it who
- 37:35Speaker 1: we think is the best? And it's neither of those things.
- 37:37Speaker 1: We just kind of go by Vegas and put teams in.
- 37:39Speaker 1: The committee can obviously do whatever the heck they want.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I don't know which of those three teams you leave out,
- 37:43Speaker 1: and I think you've got to put them all three in. Now,
- 37:46Speaker 1: BYU has to travel 2,000 miles to UCF this weekend.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Not that I think they're going to lose, but they're
- 37:51Speaker 1: only a touchdown favorite there.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Had that thought as well.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You know, like there's Houston out there. Playing at Utah,
- 37:59Speaker 1: that could be a loss. This conversation could be moot really,
- 38:02Speaker 1: really quick by the time we get together next week.
- 38:05Speaker 1: But if chalk holds, I think the Big 12 is
- 38:08Speaker 1: putting three teams in this thing. So we'll see if
- 38:11Speaker 1: chalk holds is a very obvious statement that holds a
- 38:15Speaker 1: lot of weight in this conversation.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Sure. Yeah, I mean, I think.
- 38:21Speaker 3: It's a really interesting spot that we're in because– Notre
- 38:26Speaker 3: Dame is in trouble, man. I mean, they, they, they
- 38:29Speaker 3: are like, I think that we all just, everyone assumed like,
- 38:33Speaker 3: I think a lot of people assume they'd be BYU.
- 38:35Speaker 2: First of all, second of all, I think that everyone
- 38:39Speaker 2: kind of maybe.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Them quitting on the season last year and protesting, not
- 38:46Speaker 3: making the playoff. In my opinion, it created this perception
- 38:50Speaker 3: amongst casual fans and some media people that was like, we'll,
- 38:55Speaker 3: if they're outraged about this and they must've been really
- 38:57Speaker 3: good and they weren't like they weren't, I mean, they weren't,
- 39:00Speaker 3: they weren't a bad football team by any stretch. I'm
- 39:02Speaker 3: not saying that, but you look at Chris Felica, the
- 39:07Speaker 3: bear is, did some, some, some work on this. I
- 39:12Speaker 3: think yesterday or maybe Sunday yesterday. And since the start
- 39:17Speaker 3: of last year, their Notre Dame 16 wins have come
- 39:19Speaker 3: against teams that are a combined team. 26 and 91
- 39:22Speaker 3: versus FBS opponents.
- 39:24Speaker 2: That's a 400 winning percentage.
- 39:26Speaker 3: And and they're 32 and 78 versus P4 opponents.
- 39:31Speaker 2: That's two 90.
- 39:32Speaker 3: So it like under, under Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame has
- 39:37Speaker 3: five wins in the regular season against teams, which finished
- 39:40Speaker 3: the season ranked two of those.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Were against service academies.
- 39:44Speaker 3: The other three USC last year, NC State in 2023,
- 39:52Speaker 3: Clemson in 2022. So, I think that this Notre Dame team,
- 40:00Speaker 3: I'm just very, I mean, they don't play anybody. Like,
- 40:03Speaker 3: if they don't beat Miami, they're not getting into the playoff,
- 40:06Speaker 3: in my opinion, because there's just not a way for
- 40:10Speaker 3: them to prove they're a good team. And that's going
- 40:12Speaker 3: to be their own doing, because they scheduled this way.
- 40:15Speaker 3: But that opens the door. And then if they do
- 40:19Speaker 3: beat Miami, that, that helps the big 12 even more.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 40:23Speaker 3: So one way or the other, you have a situation
- 40:26Speaker 3: that kind of slots BYU over Notre Dame, as long
- 40:32Speaker 3: as they have an equal amount of losses or, or,
- 40:36Speaker 3: or as long as BYU has, you know, one less loss,
- 40:40Speaker 3: I think the Notre Dame, and that creates an interesting
- 40:45Speaker 3: stack for everyone else. I am very curious, you know,
- 40:50Speaker 3: with Texas Tech, like what are they? I still don't
- 40:53Speaker 3: really feel like I know. I mean, they've had some
- 40:58Speaker 3: very interesting results. You know, like the Oregon State thing
- 41:02Speaker 3: I think has gotten better. But that win over Houston
- 41:05Speaker 3: looms very large in the mirror. And then they've got
- 41:08Speaker 3: the Brendan Sorsby Bowl this weekend against Cincinnati.
- 41:13Speaker 2: I think we could see a world.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Like, you know, I mean, Utah, I struggle with this
- 41:22Speaker 3: because it's like, yeah, they could get, you know, two
- 41:24Speaker 3: and a half I think is the right over-under to
- 41:26Speaker 3: be talking about with this league. But is Utah-Houston not
- 41:32Speaker 3: kind of an elimination game on Saturday night?
- 41:35Speaker 2: I mean, like, even if.
- 41:39Speaker 3: They both come out of that at six and one
- 41:41Speaker 3: because it's Houston that wins. it feels like Utah has
- 41:46Speaker 3: got to be BYU to get back into the playoff
- 41:48Speaker 3: conversation or their toes. Cause they, you know, I mean,
- 41:51Speaker 3: they just struggled with Colorado. They've had some, I mean,
- 41:56Speaker 3: the Arkansas one was nice.
- 41:57Speaker 2: They beat the crap out of Arkansas, but I just
- 42:00Speaker 2: don't know.
- 42:00Speaker 3: They've got enough left on the schedule to really make
- 42:03Speaker 3: a huge difference in the eyes of the committee members.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I yes, Houston, Utah is an eliminator game. And it
- 42:16Speaker 1: becomes a little more tricky, I think, if Houston wins that.
- 42:20Speaker 1: But again, kind of that same scenario would be if
- 42:23Speaker 1: Houston won, then Utah is Houston's artificial floor or maybe
- 42:34Speaker 1: not artificial, but they're their floor. And you just swap Houston,
- 42:38Speaker 1: you know, Houston and Utah, because then Houston has a
- 42:41Speaker 1: really good loss to Texas tech and a really good
- 42:43Speaker 1: win against Utah. And so if they go to the
- 42:46Speaker 1: big 12 championship, you know, say in that scenario, then,
- 42:50Speaker 1: then you're looking at a Houston team. That's 11 and
- 42:52Speaker 1: one at the end of the year, say BYU beats
- 42:53Speaker 1: Utah on the road. And so that's your 10 and
- 42:56Speaker 1: two team in the big 12. Then again, it's BYU
- 42:59Speaker 1: and Texas tech for the title game. They both have
- 43:01Speaker 1: to go. And maybe the committee would leave out an
- 43:04Speaker 1: 11 and one Houston with a, with a win over Utah.
- 43:07Speaker 1: But I think it'd be tough. I think what we've
- 43:09Speaker 1: seen the committee do is say, Hey, we're fine putting
- 43:12Speaker 1: a 10 and two Bama in over an 11, one BYU. Right.
- 43:16Speaker 1: I don't know that I have enough faith in the
- 43:17Speaker 1: committee to say, yeah, we'll put a nine and three
- 43:20Speaker 1: sec 10 team. in over an 11 and one big
- 43:24Speaker 1: 12 team. I'm not saying they won't. I'm not saying
- 43:26Speaker 1: they shouldn't. I just, that might be a bridge too far.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Like I think the strength of schedule gets you like,
- 43:32Speaker 1: it gets you one win. I don't know that the
- 43:34Speaker 1: strength of schedule is going to get you two wins
- 43:36Speaker 1: in the committee's eyes. Now deserving, we could have debates
- 43:41Speaker 1: all day about who deserves more, but I'm just talking
- 43:44Speaker 1: like what the committee will actually do. I don't think
- 43:47Speaker 1: the committee is going to say, I just feel like
- 43:50Speaker 1: nine and three versus 11 and one, It's just a
- 43:54Speaker 1: really far bridge for them to jump. And we can
- 43:57Speaker 1: all agree, 9-3 Texas, I would take on a neutral
- 44:01Speaker 1: field over 11-1 Houston.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Well, I think 9-3 Texas gets in over an 11-1
- 44:09Speaker 3: Houston because 9-3 Texas is going to have that win
- 44:11Speaker 3: over Ohio State.
- 44:13Speaker 1: And if Florida keeps getting better, if the rivalry will
- 44:17Speaker 1: get kind of excused, Florida finishes ranked. But I'm not
- 44:21Speaker 1: completely confident in that. In that 9-3 versus 11-1?
- 44:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think that you look at the
- 44:29Speaker 3: SEC at this point, I feel like anybody that finishes
- 44:34Speaker 3: 10-2 is probably in, right? Like, that seems probably legit.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Seems likely, yeah.
- 44:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but, man, past that, I'm with you.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Like, the 9-3 argument gets real shaky. And I'm curious
- 44:55Speaker 3: how they'd handle that.
- 44:57Speaker 2: I do know that they added.
- 45:00Speaker 3: This new metric that's supposed to take more account of
- 45:03Speaker 3: strength of schedule and kind of help the SEC, it
- 45:07Speaker 3: seemed like, was the way it was explained and pitched.
- 45:10Speaker 3: But again, a two-loss gap is something that is unprecedented.
- 45:17Speaker 3: It's never happened. We've never seen the committee... really apply
- 45:21Speaker 3: strength of schedule or strength of record in the ways
- 45:24Speaker 3: that like you and I would sit here and apply it.
- 45:27Speaker 3: If we were talking about, Hey, do I, who do
- 45:29Speaker 3: I think is better based on results?
- 45:32Speaker 2: So I'm very fascinated. I think that.
- 45:39Speaker 3: It's going to be a, a very interesting month of
- 45:44Speaker 3: December for Greg Sankey. If, He essentially ramrodded the entire
- 45:50Speaker 3: league on going to nine because he swore that him
- 45:54Speaker 3: and Tony Petitti had an agreement to immediately change the
- 45:57Speaker 3: playoff to 16. They listened to their commissioner and their
- 46:02Speaker 3: commissioner got the rug pulled out from under him by
- 46:06Speaker 3: the Big Ten commissioner and now all of a sudden
- 46:09Speaker 3: you're standing there and you've only got 12 spots and
- 46:12Speaker 3: these SEC teams are They do have gauntlets. Say what
- 46:17Speaker 3: you will about SEC bias and all of that, but
- 46:20Speaker 3: out of conference, the SEC won these games. Mississippi State
- 46:24Speaker 3: beat the dog shit out of Minnesota. Texas beat Ohio
- 46:29Speaker 3: State and now looks very troubled in league play. Hey,
- 46:34Speaker 3: one play here in the Ohio State game, sure, it
- 46:36Speaker 3: could have gone differently, but the SEC has those wins
- 46:40Speaker 3: on their resume, and that's what I'm curious about, how
- 46:43Speaker 3: the the committee is going to handle.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Because if this was last.
- 46:47Speaker 3: Year or maybe the year before where the SEC had
- 46:51Speaker 3: some good non-con results, like last year Mississippi State beating
- 46:54Speaker 3: Arizona State was a good result for the SEC. But
- 46:57Speaker 3: the cumulative of Texas going to Columbus and losing and
- 47:01Speaker 3: some of that, it was not like this year for
- 47:06Speaker 3: the SEC where they've looked pretty dominant outside of their
- 47:09Speaker 3: own league. It'll be interesting to see if the ACC–
- 47:13Speaker 3: can take some games off of them in the last
- 47:16Speaker 3: week of the year. Cause like you do have Kentucky Louisville, Georgia,
- 47:19Speaker 3: Georgia tech, South Carolina, Clemson, that could be large, but, uh,
- 47:26Speaker 3: you're to sit here and assume that a nine and
- 47:29Speaker 3: three sec team, other than Texas has a realistic shot
- 47:33Speaker 3: of getting in. You're assuming that a lot more chaos
- 47:36Speaker 3: is coming for all the leagues.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Or you're assuming that this committee is going to do
- 47:41Speaker 2: something that.
- 47:42Speaker 3: No ranking body in the history of college football has
- 47:46Speaker 3: ever done.
- 47:47Speaker 2: Right. And not group teams by the lost column.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I think it also, again, this is what I hate
- 47:53Speaker 1: about the committee. And we did so much on this
- 47:55Speaker 1: last year. I think I don't, again, if their logic
- 48:03Speaker 1: at the end of the day is Texas would win
- 48:07Speaker 1: on a neutral field at nine and three over an
- 48:11Speaker 1: 11 and one Houston team. I'm okay with that. I
- 48:15Speaker 1: understand that logic. I'm fine. I can reason that in
- 48:18Speaker 1: my mind and say, if that's what you want to do,
- 48:20Speaker 1: then that's fine. I would also try to point to
- 48:24Speaker 1: the fact of, okay, then why are we playing games?
- 48:30Speaker 1: Because these games are scheduled so far out. These teams are,
- 48:33Speaker 1: and Congress is trying to keep these teams from getting
- 48:35Speaker 1: into other conferences. Like how far down that path do
- 48:40Speaker 1: you have to get before you say the games don't matter?
- 48:44Speaker 1: And again, I would agree with you that I, I
- 48:46Speaker 1: think Texas at nine and three is probably going to
- 48:49Speaker 1: be like, well, it's arch has an arch type game,
- 48:51Speaker 1: but let's just assume the best Texas is going to
- 48:54Speaker 1: probably be an 11 and one team. But I can
- 48:56Speaker 1: also probably make that same argument and say like, Hey,
- 48:59Speaker 1: I would probably take Texas over an 11 and one BYU.
- 49:03Speaker 1: And so we're not willing to move the goalposts that much.
- 49:06Speaker 1: So where do we draw that line of, and again,
- 49:10Speaker 1: that's part of the ambiguity of our sport is it is,
- 49:13Speaker 1: it is more of a beauty pageant and less of a,
- 49:15Speaker 1: here's how you qualify. You're in the NFC South. You
- 49:17Speaker 1: win more games than the other three teams you get in.
- 49:20Speaker 1: So I understand that, but I don't, I, part of
- 49:23Speaker 1: me does not love that. Not because it's an sec thing,
- 49:25Speaker 1: not because it's a Texas thing, not because it's an
- 49:27Speaker 1: arch thing, not because I'm anti big 12 and none
- 49:29Speaker 1: of that. It just, if, if, if Texas finishes as
- 49:33Speaker 1: the sixth best team in the sec, and it's nine
- 49:36Speaker 1: and three because they beat Ohio state because of a
- 49:39Speaker 1: miraculous fourth quarter and just a great fourth quarter, then man, there,
- 49:44Speaker 1: there has to be some level of earning it, you know,
- 49:47Speaker 1: not necessarily what you would just do on a field. Listen,
- 49:51Speaker 1: I mean, Texas is eight. And would you, would you
- 49:56Speaker 1: probably still take Texas at eight and four if there
- 49:59Speaker 1: are two losses or close losses to LSU and tennis in,
- 50:03Speaker 1: in over an 11 and one team? Like would Vegas
- 50:06Speaker 1: take them?
- 50:07Speaker 2: Yeah. And so like, that's not, that's not the same
- 50:10Speaker 2: question though. I mean, like, you know, I mean, like,
- 50:15Speaker 2: are you, the, the playoff still.
- 50:21Speaker 3: Is trying to find, they're still ranking teams by resume.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:26Speaker 3: It's not a power rate. It's not a pure power rating.
- 50:28Speaker 3: It's not a spread ranking, but if you look at
- 50:32Speaker 3: Texas's schedule for them to, get to 9-3, they're going
- 50:38Speaker 3: to have to beat.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Two out of three of Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, and
- 50:46Speaker 2: then sweep Mississippi State, Arkansas, Texas A & M. I know.
- 50:54Speaker 3: That by Halloween Mississippi State could have Camario back and
- 50:57Speaker 3: Mississippi State took Texas to overtime last year. Arkansas Are
- 51:04Speaker 3: they good? No, but they just beat Vandy, who was
- 51:09Speaker 3: six points away from beating Auburn and wouldn't have lost
- 51:12Speaker 3: that game if they hadn't had a punt blocked in
- 51:14Speaker 3: return for a touchdown. And then Auburn just beat Georgia.
- 51:17Speaker 3: So stranger things have happened than the idea that Arkansas
- 51:21Speaker 3: could beat Texas. And then you get A & M
- 51:24Speaker 3: at A & M. So I'm interested. I'm intrigued. I
- 51:31Speaker 3: do think a 9-3 Texas game With a win over
- 51:34Speaker 3: Ohio State and a win over Ole Miss or LSU
- 51:43Speaker 3: or Missouri, two of those three, who would review IU's
- 51:50Speaker 3: three best wins, right?
- 51:54Speaker 1: If they run the table, it would be Notre Dame, Utah,
- 52:00Speaker 1: and Arizona's ranked right now. So I think Arizona would
- 52:02Speaker 1: be your third one.
- 52:03Speaker 3: So would you take Notre Dame, Utah, Arizona over Ohio State,
- 52:11Speaker 3: let's say Missouri LSU? Let's say they lose to Ole Miss.
- 52:14Speaker 2: And they run off five in a row to dramatically
- 52:19Speaker 2: get into the conversation.
- 52:21Speaker 1: I would say Notre Dame and Ohio State are probably
- 52:25Speaker 1: fairly close to canceling each other out. You're splitting hairs.
- 52:29Speaker 2: And they beat Tennessee. Sorry, I keep forgetting that. Yeah.
- 52:34Speaker 1: So it's a lot of good wins.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Really good wins. I guess it's, you know, if we
- 52:40Speaker 1: had this model that measured wins and losses and assign
- 52:44Speaker 1: an algorithm to it and went ahead and use that
- 52:48Speaker 1: for our 24 teams now. It could help us quantify it.
- 52:53Speaker 1: What's hard is how do you factor Texas' three losses
- 52:57Speaker 1: versus BYU's zero? Now, BYU didn't have opportunities for losses.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Well, BYU would be in no matter what. Yeah, yeah, BYU.
- 53:05Speaker 1: So Utah's, right? Or Houston's if they're 11-1. How do you... Now, admittedly,
- 53:12Speaker 1: Utah or Texas Tech or Houston or any of these
- 53:15Speaker 1: other teams, they didn't have opportunities for losses. They didn't... Right.
- 53:20Speaker 1: That's so... How do you factor that in? How do
- 53:22Speaker 1: you factor in one loss versus Texas Tech and then
- 53:25Speaker 1: a bunch of cupcakes versus three losses to good teams?
- 53:30Speaker 2: Do you want to hear my conspiracy theory on this?
- 53:33Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Well, I think they're going to go to 24 and
- 53:37Speaker 3: they're trying to sell going to 24 as a way
- 53:40Speaker 3: to get teams back into playing each other in marquee
- 53:44Speaker 3: games out of conference and to kind of get the
- 53:47Speaker 3: scheduling back on track in the first month of the
- 53:50Speaker 3: season in this sport. the best way to do that
- 53:54Speaker 3: would be to start punishing some teams.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:57Speaker 3: For playing crappy out of conference schedules. And like the
- 54:01Speaker 3: big 12, I have some compassion for it. Cause like
- 54:05Speaker 3: they are who they are and they don't have a
- 54:07Speaker 3: lot of great teams. Well, if I'm being truthful, but
- 54:10Speaker 3: like I, I would Houston played Oregon state, right?
- 54:13Speaker 2: I'm not making that up. Correct. Yeah. Am I making
- 54:16Speaker 2: that up? Yeah.
- 54:17Speaker 1: They put them back to back weeks. I think with Texas,
- 54:19Speaker 1: I think they sandwiched the Texas tech game with them.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Well, like, that's a good team.
- 54:25Speaker 3: That's an Oregon state team that could end up being
- 54:26Speaker 3: the 12th team in, you know, the G5 rep in the,
- 54:29Speaker 3: in the playoff.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Right. So it's like, that's more than a.
- 54:37Speaker 3: Lot of, I mean, they went on the road to
- 54:39Speaker 3: Georgia Southern for some reason, but like, that's more than
- 54:41Speaker 3: a lot of these teams in the big 12 are
- 54:45Speaker 3: doing is, is to play in Oregon state.
- 54:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:49Speaker 1: BYU had, BYU had the Notre Dame, Utah had, Arkansas,
- 54:53Speaker 1: which is not great, but also scheduled years in advance. No,
- 54:57Speaker 1: that's a good scheduled win.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I mean, that's a good schedule.
- 55:02Speaker 3: But I would say Oregon State and Arkansas are probably
- 55:05Speaker 3: kind of proxies for one another.
- 55:09Speaker 1: It's better than some of these teams that get played.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's my point.
- 55:13Speaker 3: And I think if I look at Texas Tech's schedule,
- 55:18Speaker 3: what is their best out-of-conference opponent?
- 55:22Speaker 2: I guess it's also Oregon State. But, you know, I mean,
- 55:27Speaker 2: you put Abilene Christian and Sam Hewson around that, and
- 55:31Speaker 2: then you're going to go.
- 55:34Speaker 1: And then they don't play BYU. Not their fault, but
- 55:38Speaker 1: they don't play BYU in Utah.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Maybe it is not their fault, but I think Petitti's
- 55:48Speaker 3: Big Ten office, like very, very intentionally scheduled– some, some
- 55:53Speaker 3: of the contenders to miss each other over the first
- 55:58Speaker 3: couple of years of this model. And I think that
- 56:00Speaker 3: other people maybe started catching onto that. So make them
- 56:05Speaker 3: pay the price for.
- 56:06Speaker 2: For that.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Like, well, that was good. That, that leads pretty well
- 56:10Speaker 1: into this. So we talked about the big 12, the
- 56:12Speaker 1: teams that can theoretically make it what the, what the
- 56:14Speaker 1: three team scenario is that they could get three in.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Let's go through each of the other conferences real fast.
- 56:22Speaker 1: I don't want to, I don't want to include every
- 56:24Speaker 1: team that's mathematically still alive. Cause yes, if Florida goes
- 56:27Speaker 1: on a run and wins out, then yes, they can
- 56:31Speaker 1: make it, but I don't want to use them. Who
- 56:33Speaker 1: do you actually think can make it based on the
- 56:36Speaker 1: remaining schedules in the sec? Cause to me, it feels
- 56:39Speaker 1: like Georgia Ole Miss Bama and LSU, and then Kentucky
- 56:45Speaker 1: would really have to I mean, they'd have to pull
- 56:48Speaker 1: a couple of rabbits out to get it done. It
- 56:50Speaker 1: is possible they're on the fringe, but then like Auburn
- 56:54Speaker 1: technically alive, they'd have to do miraculous things down the stretch, Florida,
- 56:58Speaker 1: technically alive. They've got to go beat Georgia in Atlanta
- 57:00Speaker 1: and then Kentucky and then Oklahoma. And then we'll, I
- 57:03Speaker 1: would talk about them a little more, but yeah, in
- 57:06Speaker 1: the sec in Texas, right at nine and three, Texas
- 57:09Speaker 1: can get to nine and three that there's our, there's
- 57:12Speaker 1: our one nine and three. Texas getting to 9-3 will
- 57:15Speaker 1: probably eliminate LSU or Ole Miss. Who do I.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Think is alive?
- 57:23Speaker 3: Tennessee can make it. They've got South Carolina, Kentucky, A
- 57:27Speaker 3: & M, LSU, Vandy left. If they win, it's South Carolina.
- 57:33Speaker 1: They can afford the LSU loss.
- 57:35Speaker 3: They can afford to lose to LSU and probably still
- 57:38Speaker 3: get in as long as Oklahoma doesn't.
- 57:42Speaker 2: Fall apart. Or I'm sorry, as long as Alabama doesn't
- 57:46Speaker 2: fall apart. Alabama can obviously still make it.
- 57:50Speaker 3: I mean, if you look at the rest of their schedule,
- 57:53Speaker 3: I know that like, yeah, they've got two losses already.
- 57:57Speaker 2: It's week seven. That's scary.
- 57:58Speaker 3: But they get A & M. Then they get a
- 58:00Speaker 3: bye week. And then it's LSU, Vandy, SoCon Saturday, and Auburn.
- 58:08Speaker 3: So like, they really have to split lsu a and
- 58:12Speaker 3: m and win the iron ball at this point yeah
- 58:16Speaker 3: i think that's doable i think they'll be in the playoff.
- 58:20Speaker 1: All miss needs to split texas georgia win everything else
- 58:23Speaker 1: yeah it feels like they're which.
- 58:25Speaker 3: Is which i think which i think actually they have
- 58:28Speaker 3: a tougher path because a they got to go on
- 58:31Speaker 3: the road to texas and then they got to play
- 58:33Speaker 3: georgia um And they got an Auburn sandwich between those two.
- 58:38Speaker 3: Like they don't get a buy before either of those games,
- 58:40Speaker 3: which is a big deal in this league. They already
- 58:42Speaker 3: took their buy way back on week five. So they're
- 58:44Speaker 3: going to be pretty beat up by the time they
- 58:46Speaker 3: get to Georgia.
- 58:48Speaker 2: Oklahoma on the road is not an easy task. That's
- 58:52Speaker 2: a good defense. I know that John Mateer is John Mateer, but.
- 58:58Speaker 3: I've watched Ole Miss lose those types of games my
- 59:00Speaker 3: entire adult life.
- 59:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 59:03Speaker 3: Um, And then they go to Mississippi State at the end,
- 59:06Speaker 3: which if Camario and Bothwell and everybody is still engaged, there,
- 59:11Speaker 3: that's a chaos situation, right?
- 59:13Speaker 2: I mean, they do get them at home. So they're in.
- 59:17Speaker 2: I mean, they're alive. Texas is alive, like we said.
- 59:24Speaker 2: So what? Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Texas. I think
- 59:32Speaker 2: LSU is obviously still alive.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Yeah. LSU, the LSU, Tennessee, Alabama, like a lot of
- 59:43Speaker 1: these will work themselves out.
- 59:44Speaker 2: They will.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Somebody's taking another L between Texas and LSU.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Alabama and LSU.
- 59:48Speaker 1: And then somebody's taking another L between Ole Miss and Texas.
- 59:51Speaker 1: And then somebody's taking another L between Tennessee and and
- 59:54Speaker 1: LSU and then Bama LSU as well. If I didn't
- 59:57Speaker 1: mention that one. So some of that will work itself out.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Like there, there will be some eliminator games coming up
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: here in the next couple of weeks, you know, in November.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: So we'll see.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: But like, let's talk about Kentucky seriously here because they
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: got Vandy this week.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Didn't they get a buy and they go on the
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: road to Tennessee. So let's say they lose Tennessee. Can
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: they close out? and win three straight over Florida at
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Missouri and Louisville. Cause like, I don't think that's, I.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Don't think that's impossible. No, they, they, they need to
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: win two out of three against Tennessee, Florida and Missouri.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Two of those are on the road. Tennessee's a different
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: animal at home as we've all learned. So that'd be tough,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: but they get it coming off a buy.
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: And you know that somebody is going to, at least
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: two of these teams are going to win. one of
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: these kind of swing games that we're talking about.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: We're not talking about the next week. Yeah. It's like
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Missouri for somebody. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Or, I mean, you know, and there's the doomsday scenario too,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: where they all just do what has happened through the
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: first part of the season where they all just beat
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: each other. And then you're left with a three loss
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: sec champion, you know, like, I don't think that's happening.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: It's not impossible though, man.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: You, or, or the team that, you know, I'd say
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Georgia has, you know, certainly the most confidence that people
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: have is, is in Georgia. Georgia could lose to Ole
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Miss that's on the road.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: And then from there, maybe Georgia still goes to the
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: sec championship and at two loss, Georgia beats a three
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: loss runner up.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: I don't think they're going to make anybody pay for
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: losing the sec title game.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: I don't either. I just wonder where that three loss
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: team is going into the sec title.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Sure. Sure.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: You know, is that, Yeah, maybe they can make it
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: in by beating a team like Georgia.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: So the SEC is still really wide open. It'll figure
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: itself out. The Big Ten is really interesting.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Well, one other thing I want to say real quick.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: The team that's in trouble here is LSU.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: They have the toughest.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: They've got Alabama, Texas, Tennessee.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: And we already talked about the Auburn game this weekend,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: which isn't a guarantee. It's not a lock. I think
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: they win, but certainly not a lock.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Stranger things have happened for sure.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Within the last four days. Like, um, the big 10
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: is interesting. I think Indiana is relatively fine because I just, I,
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: I like them to go beat Michigan. I do like
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: them to be USC that game in Bloomington. I, I
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: think they're fine. Oregon, not dead. UCLA's path is right there.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I don't trust USC enough. Um, And Ohio state with,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: with out saying is interesting down the stretch.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: They have, Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: They have the game against Oregon. They have the game
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: in the big house or no, no, that's, I think
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: that's at home. Um, but they have the game against
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Michigan at the end of the year. I would still
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: say Ohio state makes it, I think Indiana makes it.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: And then does UCLA get in would be my question.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: Oregon's still very much alive if they could beat Ohio state. Um,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: is a second Ohio state loss without their quarterback. Like what,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: you know, again, the precedent exists. What does the committee,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: are we even sure.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: He's capable of coming back this year? Cause I'm not.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Yeah. If he doesn't come back and they take a
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: second loss to Oregon, what does the committee do? Right.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I don't, I don't have a great answer. I don't,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: I don't know, but what if they take a third loss?
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: You know, I don't think they will, but I don't
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: think it's outside of the realm of possibilities. So the
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Big Ten's interesting. The ACC is Miami and everybody else.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: Can Wake make it? If Wake goes to the ACC,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: they're not getting the respect yet, and I'm interested to
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: see what the committee does. If Wake goes to the
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: ACC championship, that'll include a close loss to Miami. That'll
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: include a win over Louisville. That'll include a win over
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: SMU right now, who is ranked.
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: They still will need help, though. They need some disaster
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: scenarios to happen, I think in the big 10 and SEC.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: Or I mean, but Hey, like I think wake's capable
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: of beating Miami. I mean, they almost beat them the
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: first time. Like Miami's look, man, I know Miami is
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: number one in the country now and all of that,
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: but Miami's not a dominant football team. Every time they
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: play anybody that's got a pulse and that, you know,
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: can hold the ball enough to wear out their overweight
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: pass rushers.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: They, they start to fold. They struggle. They struggle late
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: in games.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: And Malachi Tony is the best football player in the country,
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: maybe for my money pound for pound.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: But if you can make them do something.
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Else and you can get Darian mental office first read,
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: then a lot of things fall apart for them. So
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: it's not outside the realm of possibility that Miami could,
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: you know, lose to Notre Dame and then wake knocks
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: Miami out of the playoff by winning the ACC and I.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Mean, there's a lot of scenarios on the table still.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: I just think because the ACC.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Kind of got the shaft last year, I could see
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: the committee trying to write that wrong a little bit, potentially.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: To me, it would feel like if somebody in the
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: Big Ten, like who's alive in the Big Ten, realistically?
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Ohio State, Indiana, UCLA.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Ohio State, UCLA.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: UCLA, Oregon.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: Is Michigan alive?
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: No, because they'll take another. I think they'll take another
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: loss this weekend, so I'm chalking that up already. USC
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: is technically alive.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: What if USC beats Ohio State with no sand?
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I think that game is a lot more interesting.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: It's definitely a lot more interesting.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: If Ohio State loses to Oregon and USC, they're out.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Only they can get in at 9-3.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: Look, hear me out. Can Northwestern... I think Northwestern can
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: win out. I know that's crazy. I know it's bold.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: But I would actually say that.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: I mean, I guess Indiana and Ohio State have kind
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: of clearly separated as one, two, but they've been the
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: third best.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Team in the Big Ten.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Better than UCLA?
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: I guess that's tough, but I'm more impressed with like
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: what they've done. Yeah.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: That 29-23 loss to Indiana told me way more than
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: anything I've learned about UCLA.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: If they, I mean, if they beat Oregon on Halloween.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: They can do it.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: And then beat Iowa, which is a ranked win. I mean,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: does Iowa out? You know, if we're doing all this?
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: No.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: Well, I'm just, but I mean. realistically, I was, no,
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: they're not out. I mean, they're 15 in the country
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: and this is a 12 team playoff. Like the thing
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: about 12 team playoff is they got to put 12
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: teams in it.
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: So if, if Northwestern, if Northwestern beats Oregon, Iowa and
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Ohio state, then yeah. I mean, they're obviously, because then
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: at that point they're beating Minnesota and Illinois to finish it.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: So Ohio state without saying, I asked.
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: That's the thing is like, I think that the, the
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Julian say in injury news is, of any program in
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: terms of how does this impact their future, aside from
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: Ohio State, obviously, I think it impacts Northwestern the most.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Because the path for them just opened up. And by
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: the way, I'm not entirely sure that even if they.
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: Did lose to Oregon, if they could split the Oregon-Ohio
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: State deal and finish 10-2 with that win over Iowa,
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: I'm not sure they don't get in at that point.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: I think it is. I mean, you look at UCLA's
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: schedule for the rest of the way, and they're doing
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: this with a backup quarterback right now.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: That's the thing that scares me about UCLA. But, I mean, hey.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: If they go 11-1, can you leave them out? I
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: don't know that you can leave an 11-1 power conference
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: team out.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: Look, I know they do have the backup quarterback. I'm
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: not confident that they... I think they probably do. I
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: think 11-1 is more likely than 10-2 at this point,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: looking at that schedule. They've got Michigan State, then Nevada. Win, win.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: And Minnesota.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: Win.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Could be tricky. Cold. California boys going to the cold.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: It's true.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Illinois could be tricky. Friday night, 9 p.m. Fox. That
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: seems like the kiss of death for Big Ten teams.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: And then at Michigan. and then USC.
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: I mean, like USC, I just don't know if they
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: can score with USC with a backup quarterback. But that
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: backup quarterback is going to be a real season by
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: the time they get to late November.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: So I'm not ruling it out.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I am interested to continue to follow this. We've been
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: on for a little while, but give me a, give
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: me a 90 second, 2014 playoff thought. And let's get
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: out of here.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: I mean, it sucks.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Like I only needed three seconds. Yeah.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Look, all of this drama that we're talking about, like
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: there's going to be a lot of hearts, absolutely broken.
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: And they're in most cases, they're going to be probably
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: like very good teams instead of great teams that get
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: their hearts broken.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: But still, I.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Think college football is at its best when everyone gets
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: to gather around the campfire and, like, point and laugh
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: at a big brand, whether that's Georgia losing to Auburn
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: or Ohio State getting upset or Texas or.
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: Whoever, right?
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: And I think, like, when you get to 24, these
- 1:10:15Speaker 3: upsets of these big brands– they don't really have enough
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: meaning to ruin their season anymore.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: I mean, look, hey, I already thought that.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: We kind of screwed up the regular season when I
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: watched Ohio State lose to a 6-5 rival on the
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: last weekend of the season and go on and win
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: a national title. To me, that was sort of the
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: moment that the sport that I grew up with and
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: loved died.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: But this is a whole other level of really kind
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: of rendering– some of these results moot and turning it
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: into a, a one month tournament, like a six week sport,
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: which sucks.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: I think what so many people have have waxed poetically
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: on is when pay has talked about, you know, we're
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: taking the importance off of Texas, Ohio state, and we're
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: putting it onto Iowa, Nebraska the last week of the year,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: which is fine. That's a good point. What I didn't
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: think about was we are completely removing the the importance
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: of Florida going into the swamp and giving Texas their
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: second straight unranked loss.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: Like Texas can afford one or maybe two more of those.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Like eight and four, Texas is probably right there around five.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: They're definitely in.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: And that is, yeah, you just rendered an entire quarter
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: of your third of your season irrelevant.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: And so, and by the way, this is the shortest
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: regular season in major, Yeah.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: It just, yes, it is going to make some, you know,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: eight and two team in November really well, eight and
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: two teams would already have that, but it's going to
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: make some seven and two team in November or, you know,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: six and three team in November have a lot of excitement.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: You think about that? A six and three team to
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: start November is like, man, we're, we're, we're right here, man.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: We got a bad, we got it right. Like we're
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: right in it. And so it is going to make
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: people feel a little bit better, I guess, from that perspective.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: But I, yeah, I just, I don't love that.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: I don't love open common sense prevails.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: It's not, Oh, it's not. I, the cake has been baked.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: So maybe even like we might have to live in
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: the 24 world for a year or two, but I
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: think in the end, this will all come and be undone.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: It would be nice. I have zero confidence.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: Do you think that's going to happen? You don't think so?
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: I just, I don't think you often see reverting, you know,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: once a decision has been made, you never go backwards
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: from it.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: Do you think there's any chance that Donald Trump.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Will fix it for us?
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: Well, I mean, like, I think it's possible, like not
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: to talk political, but like, he seems like the type
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: of dude.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: That like, if something catches his eye, he's just like, Oh,
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: that's interesting. You know? And kind of like latches onto it.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Uh, Is there any chance that he latches onto this
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: and realizes that it might be the most agreeable thing
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: that you could do in America right now would be
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: to ban this playoff from expanding and say, I.
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: Would love to do something that would make 90 plus
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: percent of people happy. Like some politicians got to look
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: at this, right? That is my hope is that the
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: PCSA bill, it's still got to go jump through hoops
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: in the house and all that. And that somebody jumps
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: in and says- Not like we're going to amend this thing.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess it's possible. I don't have a lot
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: of faith in that happening, but I suppose it's possible. Again,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: I mean, I think we all know what this is.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: It is the teams that are spending too much money
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: feel like they need a participation trophy to justify the
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: money that they're spending. It is the biggest lipstick on
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: a pig situation that I've ever seen in my entire life.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: you are, yeah, you may make the playoff at 24th
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: or 23rd or 22nd or 20th. You still finished 20th
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: that year. You still were not close. And so maybe
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: a year, a couple of years of bad results, you know,
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: early in the playoff, which we're already getting that with
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: 12 teams, but maybe a couple of years of really
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: lopsided results. Honestly, if they would have just, if they
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: would have marketed it better and said, we're going to
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: a 16 with a, 16 plus eight.
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: I'm, I'm, I'm such a soccer nut. I literally just
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: watched a champions league game with my daughter. The champions
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: league expanded exponentially this year. And what they did was
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: they just said, Hey, we're going to have our 16
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: team tournament. Like we've always had, but we're going to
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: have a little play in to get team tournament, which
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: is love that bonus soccer, which is 24 teams. It's
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: the same thing. The playoff CFP is doing. It's 24 teams,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: but it's just, hey, these top eight get in automatically.
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: The next eight got to play their way in. We
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: got eight that are at home and eight that are
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: on the road. If any of the road teams go
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: into a hostile environment and win on a college campus
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: or a European stadium, then we'll put them in the
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: playoff instead. But our playoff is just 16 teams. There's
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: an extra round that's like a play-in. So I think
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: if they would have just marketed this, because that's exactly
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: what the 24 team is. If they would have just
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: marketed it as, We got a 16-team playoff. We got
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: a play-in for the tournament. Nobody would be upset when
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: the NCAA goes to 72 or 144 or whatever number
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: they go to. Nobody would be upset if we said, hey,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: we're going to add extra play-in games. it'd be the
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: same thing in effect. But if we said, Hey, our
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: playoff is 16 teams. We compromised and we're going to
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: give you a way to play your way into the tournament. Sure. Yeah,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: it would be, but we had to call it. We,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: and again, that's the same thing in effect. The marketing
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: around everything with college football is terrible because it doesn't
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: need marketing. You want to know why? it's just already
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: great the way that it is. So it is dumb.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: It's for a way for these boosters and donors to
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: continue to get big time money, bring more money in
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: because it's not even that advantageous from a revenue perspective.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: Pace talked about this losing the conference championships. It's costing
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: the sec a little bit of money. Um, everybody else
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: is kind of breaking even ish. You know, the ACC
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: is making a little big 12, but overall it basically
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: is just a big break even for the whole sport.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: It's not about money. It's about the participation trophy that
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: these people need because they're spending too much on rosters
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: and still coming in 24th. You want to know why?
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: Because good coaches still win. That's why at the end
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: of the day, Kirby's paying the same thing everybody else is,
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: maybe a little less in some situations, and good coaches
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: still win at the end of the day. Ryan Day,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: spending the same thing everybody else is, but they win
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: at the end of the day because they're good coaches.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: So we need a participation trophy, and that's what we're getting.
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and the other thing about it too is I
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: know the coaches have been really behind this.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: Quietly in a lot of cases.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: Cause I, you know, people like myself and people with
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: much larger profiles than myself pointed this out as like participation,
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: trophy culture, creeping into college football. And you know that
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: like college football coaches are like, shit, you know, like, Oh,
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: I can't be seen supporting that. But, I'm going to
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: go tell my athletic director I'm really in favor of
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: this and I'm worried about our ability to get a
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: fair shake from the playoff committee. My point in saying
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: it is these coaches think this is going to change
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: the perception of whether or not they were successful at
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: their job.
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: We'll have interim coach. If I had to bet, I
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: would say we'll have an interim.
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: Coach coaching a first-round playoff game for Team 22, something
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: like that, within the first two years of this form.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Without a doubt. Yeah. Making it sounds good to make
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: the playoff every year. I mean, I was talking with
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: Allie today about it. A peek inside getters football.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Like obviously Florida state's a mess right now. You're going
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: to be just having a competent coach at a big
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: three school in the state of Florida.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: You're guaranteed a.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: Playoff spot every year. Yeah. Like it is. It's insane. So,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: all right. We're going to wrap up Graham coffee, dog central,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: TJ Pittenger, college football addiction. This is our complete matchup guide.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: We did three games today or two games today and
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: talked a little big picture college football playoff. We'd love
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: if you subscribed. We'd love if you defund the playoff.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: We'd love if you wrote to your president and, or
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: your state Senator and told them to kill this thing.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Save us, Donald Trump.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Trump, if you watch this, please kill this. But
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: we'll see what happens. So, Graham, thanks for hanging out, man.
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: Always. Thanks for having me, man.
