Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Light FM, Cubby, Christine, producer Kristen, you were talking during
- 0:03Speaker 1: two pretty cool things about how you can go back
- 0:06Speaker 1: to a time capsule and find out what words were
- 0:10Speaker 1: added to the Merriam Dictionary. Yeah.
- 0:11Speaker 2: So, like, you go back to 1990 or 1988, it
- 0:15Speaker 2: tells you what words were new. Like, word to your mother.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Was big in 1988.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Vanilla Ice Baby and said, word to your mother in 1990.
- 0:24Speaker 2: So that was fun.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 2: So what's going in this year, Christine?
- 0:28Speaker 3: It's great, Cubby, because like you said, it is like
- 0:30Speaker 3: a time capsule. So this year, Merriam-Webster is adding some
- 0:33Speaker 3: new terms, and they say a lot of it has
- 0:35Speaker 3: to do with pop culture, social media, new tech. We're
- 0:40Speaker 3: getting entries like vibe coding, parasocial, Rick Roll, yacht rock,
- 0:46Speaker 3: and Sunday scaries.
- 0:48Speaker 2: I'm surprised Rick Roll... Is just going in now.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Is just going in now.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Because we've been saying it for like 15, 20 years.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yep.
- 0:55Speaker 2: And the other surprising one, what was after Rickroll? You
- 0:57Speaker 2: mentioned something after Rickroll? Yacht Rock. Yacht Rock.
- 1:00Speaker 3: That's been around a while, too.
- 1:01Speaker 2: That term has been around to me for a long
- 1:02Speaker 2: time as well, like 20 years or so.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Sunday Scaries.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Oh, that's been real for all our life.
- 1:08Speaker 3: For food additions, we have Bao, Chili Crisp, and Superfood.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Other new additions, Cuffing Season.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Love Cuffing Season.
- 1:17Speaker 3: I know it. California Sober. I think that's where you
- 1:22Speaker 3: allow yourself a bit.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Glow up.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Promposal. AGI, artificial general intelligence. Looks maxing.
- 1:32Speaker 2: What's that mean? Anybody know that? Looks maxing? Is that
- 1:34Speaker 2: maximizing your looks?
- 1:36Speaker 3: I mean, it sounds, yeah.
- 1:38Speaker 2: It's like going to, yes.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Like when it shows a little picture, it shows a
- 1:40Speaker 3: guy on Instagram and his hair is all done and
- 1:42Speaker 3: his skin looks perfect. And yeah, like making the most
- 1:45Speaker 3: of it. Limerence. I don't know. Mandela effect.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I do know because I looked it up. It's a
- 1:54Speaker 3: strange concept.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Shapewear.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I thought we had that one because Spanx and stuff
- 2:00Speaker 3: have been around a long time.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Shapewear is just going in in 2026.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Just going in.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Really? Yeah. Fascinating.
- 2:05Speaker 3: But we've been utilizing it since, you know.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Since, yeah, beginning of time.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Forever. And neckbeard.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Neckbeard. Do you know what that is?
- 2:13Speaker 3: No.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Let me look it up. Okay.
- 2:15Speaker 3: So we've got a couple. We need to look up limerence. Okay. Okay.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Neck beard. Uh-oh.
- 2:22Speaker 3: Kristen's showing us it's that fashion where the guy doesn't
- 2:25Speaker 3: have anything on the.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Chin or above the mouth. It doesn't connect to a
- 2:29Speaker 2: mustache or anything.
- 2:30Speaker 3: It literally is just around the jawline.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Neck beard. I can't imagine the crumbs in that thing
- 2:39Speaker 2: and all the dirty food in there. If you have one,
- 2:43Speaker 2: I love you.
- 2:43Speaker 3: 44363, what's on your mind?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Text us. Light FM.
