- 0:00Was gonna give you a choice because I've just
- 0:03been saving up all these mini ideas, but There's
- 0:07one especially you'll know why you'll know why
- 0:09as soon as I start reading it It just needs to
- 0:12be read right now and without further ado Pizza
- 0:16Express found no evidence Andrew visited restaurant
- 0:19in Woking after infamous claim on Newsnight This
- 0:24is from thesun .co Are they calling into question
- 0:27his impeccable memory? No. For only that night?
- 0:30You couldn't because that interview was so good.
- 0:33Nobody would ever think he was lying. There must
- 0:35be more to it. No, no, it's because they all
- 0:38got sweated on profusely and couldn't leave.
- 0:42So now you see why I couldn't not read this.
- 0:46Pizza Express investigated whether Andrew Mountbatten
- 0:49-Windsor actually visited It's Woking Branch,
- 0:53that's how you say it, right? I've heard him
- 0:54say it so many fucking times. I'm pretty sure.
- 0:57Yeah. In 2001, after his infamous claim on BBC
- 1:01Newsnight, the fast food chain held an internal
- 1:04inquiry into the disgraced former Prince's alibi
- 1:07after... I like that better than Mountbatten
- 1:12Windsor. That's a good title. After he first
- 1:16revealed the claim to BBC host Emily Matless,
- 1:19the company found no evidence that Andrew was
- 1:22there, but also couldn't say he had not not been
- 1:25there, reports the BBC. Matless sat down with
- 1:28the former Duke of York in November 2019 in a
- 1:32TV chat that would become one of Britain's most
- 1:34famous interviews. During the chat, Matless probed
- 1:38Andrew on if he met Virginia Roberts -Dufry,
- 1:41who claimed she was made to have sex with him
- 1:43as a teen back in 2001 after being trafficked
- 1:47by wealthy pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew
- 1:50had quote no recollection end quote of meeting
- 1:53Jeffrey and claimed it could not have happened
- 1:55as he'd taken his daughter Princess Beatrice
- 1:58to Pizza Express and Woking for a party on March
- 2:0110, 2001. The surprising statement alongside
- 2:04claims he does not sweat became one of the most
- 2:08memorable and mocked moments of the interview.
- 2:11Ask why he could remember something so specific
- 2:1318 years ago the 66 year old said quote because
- 2:17going to a pizza express in Woking is a very
- 2:20unusual thing for me to do I've never been I've
- 2:23only been to Woking a couple of times and I remember
- 2:26it weirdly distinctly as soon as somebody reminded
- 2:29me of it I went oh yes I remember that March
- 2:3210th 2001 of course I've listened to this interview
- 2:36so many times I can hear it in my head Chelsea
- 2:38is not doing it justice go watch it again everybody
- 2:43I inserted it in our last episode that he came
- 2:46up on because we're a royalty podcast. The BBC
- 2:49has now revealed an internal investigation into
- 2:52Andrews alleged visit was held in 2019 in the
- 2:55pizza chain. Senior management looked into the
- 2:58legitimacy of the visit as they believed it was
- 3:00in the public's best interest. The inquiry included
- 3:03speaking to members of staff from the time as
- 3:05well as searching through the record. The restaurant
- 3:08chain has now concluded that it failed to find
- 3:10any evidence proving the former prince's visit,
- 3:13but it also was unable to substantiate anything
- 3:16to show he was not in attendance. BBC Newsnight
- 3:19also made, quote, extensive inquiries and, quote,
- 3:22into customer or staff witnesses to the then
- 3:25prince's attendance, but has failed to find anything.
- 3:28Okay, so they couldn't find any minimum wage
- 3:31staff from 25 years ago now at this point who
- 3:34could distinctly remember seeing the Prince.
- 3:37I love this because it's so memorable to him
- 3:40because it's not a regular thing, but it does
- 3:42work in reverse as well. Like people would remember
- 3:45that if he did go in there. I'm sure they'd be
- 3:47like, hey, it's this jackass. It's this really
- 3:50weird sweaty guy. He's so sweaty. Why is he in
- 3:54here? I just think that it works both ways, not
- 3:57just, you know, for him. That's basically it
- 4:00for the rest of it. It's just going over everything
- 4:02that we already know. But that was just something
- 4:05that I had to share with you guys. I didn't actually
- 4:08realize that it said they also couldn't prove
- 4:11that he didn't go in there. So we're really left
- 4:14nothing. the better in this episode i really
- 4:17feel like they called a lot of people in their
- 4:19like mid to late 40s and were like why are you
- 4:22asking me about a minimum wage job i had 25 years
- 4:25ago i have no idea go away but at the same time
- 4:28like you would know if prince andrew came in
- 4:30right would you well i wouldn't because i didn't
- 4:34know him until all this podcast basically i don't
- 4:37know i don't remember many days distinctly from
- 4:40my minimum wage jobs if you're in the uk like
- 4:43the the royal family is some when you know, right?
- 4:46No, that's not the UK. Isn't that in, like, the
- 4:49Bahamas somewhere? Woking? No. Look at how it's
- 4:52spelled and how he pronounced it. I have no idea
- 4:54how it's spelled. Hold on. Woking Pizza Express.
- 4:57This is the hard -hitting journalism that you
- 4:59guys are here for, right? This is the questions
- 5:01we need to ask. Zoom out. Zoom out. Oh, did you
- 5:06find it? I can't find it. Oh, it's because...
- 5:08Yeah, you're right. It is in the UK. Yeah. OK,
- 5:10that makes more sense now. Yeah, so I feel like
- 5:14because it's the Royals, right? And he probably
- 5:17have security with them. That makes more sense.
- 5:19At the very least, you know, even if you're a
- 5:21minimum wage person that doesn't care, at the
- 5:24very least, you'd be like, this guy has security
- 5:27or something, right? Like why? Yeah. Yeah. Okay,
- 5:31fair enough. But yeah, I don't think it matters
- 5:34either way. Yeah, we just really didn't get anywhere
- 5:37with this mini So that's unfortunate and that's
- 5:41all so many questions to be answered And dare
- 5:44I say British Andy's memory may be being called
- 5:48into question. Don't you mean disgraced British
- 5:50Andy? Yes That's way better we got 48 hours I
- 5:57don't know. Just think about British Andy. Watch
- 5:59that interview one more time. I can't recommend
- 6:00it enough. Yeah, it's pretty good. Bye. Bye.
