Lucas: We have been spending a lot of time there. But there's always something new to talk about. Today, we're going to talk about the seesaw. Luna: Oh, the seesaw! I loved that as a kid. Going up and down, up and down. Lucas: Exactly. And in Spanish, the seesaw is called 'el sube y baja'. Literally 'the up and down'. Luna: El sube y baja. That makes sense. So it's a noun? Like, 'I see the seesaw'? Lucas: Yes. 'Veo el sube y baja.' Let's say that together: Veo el sube y baja. Luna: Veo el sube y baja. Lucas: Good. Now, when you're on the seesaw, you go 'up and down'. That's 'arriba y abajo'. Luna: Arriba y abajo. I've heard 'arriba' before, like 'arriba, arriba!' But 'abajo' is new. Lucas: Right. Arriba is up, abajo is down. So 'subimos y bajamos' — we go up and down. But the phrase we'll focus on is 'arriba y abajo'. Luna: Arriba y abajo. So when I'm on the seesaw, I can say 'Voy arriba y abajo'? Lucas: Exactly! 'Voy arriba y abajo.' Or you can say 'El sube y baja va arriba y abajo.' Let's practice: Voy arriba y abajo. Luna: Voy arriba y abajo. Lucas: Perfect. Now, when you're with a friend, you take turns. 'Your turn' in Spanish is 'te toca a ti'. Luna: Te toca a ti. So I can say 'Te toca a ti subir'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Te toca a ti subir' — it's your turn to go up. Let's try a short dialogue. I'll say 'Te toca a ti', and you respond. Lucas: Te toca a ti. Luna: Voy arriba y abajo. Lucas: Muy bien! Also, to make the seesaw move, you push with your feet. That's 'empuja con los pies'. Luna: Empuja con los pies. So it's a command? Like, push with your feet? Lucas: Yes. 'Empuja' is the command form for 'tú'. So 'Empuja con los pies'. Luna: Empuja con los pies. I can do that. What about 'it's fun'? We've learned 'es divertido' before. Lucas: Right! 'Es divertido' — it's fun. So we can say 'El sube y baja es divertido'. Luna: El sube y baja es divertido. And if I want to say 'playing on the seesaw is fun'? Lucas: You can say 'Jugar en el sube y baja es divertido'. But today, let's keep it simple. Let's review all our phrases. Lucas: First: el sube y baja. Luna: El sube y baja. Lucas: Arriba y abajo. Luna: Arriba y abajo. Lucas: Te toca a ti. Luna: Te toca a ti. Lucas: Empuja con los pies. Luna: Empuja con los pies. Lucas: Es divertido. Luna: Es divertido. Lucas: Great. Now let's imagine a little scene. You're at the park with a friend, and you see the seesaw. Luna: Okay. I say: 'Mira, el sube y baja.' And my friend says: '¿Quieres jugar?' I say: 'Sí, es divertido. Te toca a ti primero.' Lucas: Perfect! That's a natural conversation.
