- 0:27Speaker 1: continued their interview process for the the coordinator positions on
- 0:35Speaker 1: Kellen Moore staff. They have completed interviews with the Ronte
- 0:39Speaker 1: Jones for defensive coordinator and now for Adam Schefter. Jamal
- 0:43Speaker 1: Singleton is also interviewed for the offensive coordinator vacancy. So
- 0:47Speaker 1: Jamal Singleton was the Eagles assistant head coach and running
- 0:51Speaker 1: backs coach this year, so Kellen Moore was on staff
- 0:57Speaker 1: with Singleton this year. It's interesting because it is widely
- 1:02Speaker 1: assumed has been widely assumed that Doug Nussmeyer is going
- 1:08Speaker 1: to be the new Saints offensive coordinator coming over with
- 1:11Speaker 1: Kellen Moore from Philly, and there have been other assistants
- 1:17Speaker 1: with the Eagles that Kellen Moore has interviewed. I thought
- 1:21Speaker 1: it was interesting because last week when we were in
- 1:25Speaker 1: Houston doing the show, we had our Buddy Brooks Cabina
- 1:28Speaker 1: on with us, and Brooks covers the Eagles for the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Athletic and this was at a point where Kellen Moore
- 1:34Speaker 1: had been officially hired. There were the Nuss Meyer and
- 1:39Speaker 1: Brandon Staley rumors about or reports about the staff. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: I asked Brooks about Kellen Moore coming over and possibly
- 1:49Speaker 1: bringing Eagle staff members with him, and it was interesting
- 1:54Speaker 1: how he presented it through Brandon issued me throughout Nick
- 1:57Speaker 1: Sirianni's lens, the Eagles head coach, of how he normally
- 2:00Speaker 1: handles his assistants who go get head coaching jobs but
- 2:03Speaker 1: then try to poach the staff.
- 2:05Speaker 2: He is very encouraging for all of his coaches to
- 2:07Speaker 2: go get head coaching jobs, but once they do, you're
- 2:10Speaker 2: not taking any of my guys. He locks down his staff.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That's something that he carried over from working with Frank Wright.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Frank Wrhich had the same deal support, go get your job,
- 2:19Speaker 2: but these are my guys. This is this is That's
- 2:20Speaker 2: what we've had. So I don't think he's going to
- 2:22Speaker 2: get anybody that was a part of the staff before
- 2:25Speaker 2: he got there. I think I think nus Meyer has
- 2:28Speaker 2: been his guy, and I think Sirianna will realize that.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And Kevin Patulo has been Siriani's guy back to the
- 2:34Speaker 2: Colts to days together even before that.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So remember the two names that had largely been discussed
- 2:41Speaker 1: were nus Meyer and Patullah. Those are the first two
- 2:44Speaker 1: on the Eagle staff. So uh, by the way, so
- 2:47Speaker 1: there's nus Meyer, Petullo, and now the report of the
- 2:51Speaker 1: Saints interviewing Jamal Singleton for the offensive coordinator job as well.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Brooks made a prediction in that interview as well. Here
- 2:58Speaker 1: it was, I.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Think he'll only get two. I think he'll get Doug
- 3:00Speaker 2: nus Meyer to come with him, and then also count Valero.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Those are the two that he brought with them from
- 3:05Speaker 2: the Chargers.
- 3:07Speaker 1: So Valero, by the way, we haven't even heard that
- 3:10Speaker 1: name yet. But Batulo, Valero, nuss Meyer, and now Singleton interviewing.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So there, listen, there's only so much that Nick Sirianni
- 3:20Speaker 1: can do if another staff is offering you a promotion
- 3:25Speaker 1: financially and in job title. I mean, it's hard to
- 3:30Speaker 1: pass on it, but you heard him mention there nuss
- 3:32Speaker 1: Meyer Valero and then also Batulo interview and now Singleton
- 3:36Speaker 1: will see how it may all fall. Something else worth
- 3:39Speaker 1: considering is for head coach and coordinator positions, you must
- 3:44Speaker 1: satisfy the Rooney rule, meaning you have to interview a
- 3:47Speaker 1: minority candidate. From the day Kellen Moore got this job.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Even before, it's largely been assumed that Brandon Staley was
- 3:56Speaker 1: going to be the defensive coordinator and Doug nuss Meyer
- 3:59Speaker 1: be the offensive Coordinat well, that doesn't satisfy the Rooney rule.
- 4:02Speaker 1: So Derante Jones has interviewed for the defensive coordinator role,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and now Jamal Singleton has interviewed for the offensive coordinator role.
- 4:10Speaker 1: That's two black men who have now interviewed. So you
- 4:12Speaker 1: have satisfied the Rooney rule. Candidly, I hate talking about
- 4:16Speaker 1: it that way, but it's the reality of the situation.
- 4:21Speaker 1: You can't hire someone until you satisfy the Rooney rule.
- 4:23Speaker 1: So there's part of me that looks at it and says,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I hate that these feel like token interviews. However, that's
- 4:33Speaker 1: also how coaches at times have gotten opportunities that maybe
- 4:38Speaker 1: otherwise would not have and the I mean, the impetus
- 4:40Speaker 1: for this was Mike Tomlin's. That's why Mike Tomlin got
- 4:44Speaker 1: the Steelers job. As the Rooney family interviewed Tomlin, they
- 4:48Speaker 1: were so impressed they offered him the job when he
- 4:49Speaker 1: wasn't the leading candidate. And so it's a great opportunity
- 4:54Speaker 1: for these coaches to get the opportunity to go interview
- 4:57Speaker 1: and have their name mentioned. The other part of it
- 4:59Speaker 1: is it does feel like it's just a an obligatory
- 5:04Speaker 1: exercise when you've already made your decision, and quite candidly,
- 5:08Speaker 1: we could talk about how Jamal Singleton might fit and like,
- 5:11Speaker 1: he's a veteran coach. He's forty nine years old, he
- 5:13Speaker 1: was born in Turkey. He's in the Air Force. He
- 5:16Speaker 1: coached at Air Force Oklahoma State Arkansas, then jumped into
- 5:20Speaker 1: the NFL with the Colts, Raiders, Bengals, now the Eagles.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I mean, he is a very well traveled, accomplished coach
- 5:25Speaker 1: who's forty nine years old. He's a veteran, he's been
- 5:27Speaker 1: coaching now for the last twenty three years or twenty
- 5:29Speaker 1: four years. Like, is he capable? I'm sure, especially in
- 5:34Speaker 1: an offense where Kellen Moore is going to call the plays.
- 5:37Speaker 1: But from the Saints' perspective, as I look at it,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I'm looking at the youngest head coach in the NFL
- 5:44Speaker 1: at thirty six years old, and I want to surround
- 5:47Speaker 1: him with veteran experienced coaches. Particularly experienced head coaches are coordinators,
- 5:53Speaker 1: guys that can be a great resource. Which is why
- 5:55Speaker 1: I think like Brandon Staley on the defensive side would
- 5:58Speaker 1: be the right hire. He's been a coordinator, He's been
- 6:00Speaker 1: a head coach in the league. I mean, look at
- 6:02Speaker 1: the two teams that just played in the Super Bowl.
- 6:04Speaker 1: The Chiefs, their defensive coordinator is Steve Spagnolo. The Eagles
- 6:07Speaker 1: their defensive coordinator is Vic Fangio. These are veteran defensive
- 6:10Speaker 1: minds in the NFL. That That's why I think like
- 6:13Speaker 1: a guy like Brandon Staley, who's got that experience as
- 6:16Speaker 1: a defensive coordinator as a head coach would serve him well.
- 6:19Speaker 1: With Doug nus Meyer, he's been with Kellen Moore every
- 6:23Speaker 1: year since twenty eighteen in Dallas, Like that would serve
- 6:25Speaker 1: Kellen Moore well in this situation. Someone who knows him,
- 6:29Speaker 1: they know each other, we know they work well together.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I think I Don't'm not saying hire yes men. I'm
- 6:34Speaker 1: saying hire people that you know you can work with
- 6:38Speaker 1: and achieve max efficiency. So all this will be sorted
- 6:41Speaker 1: out how they play it out. But Jamal Singleton, the
- 6:45Speaker 1: latest to interview for offensive coordinator, I still think that
- 6:50Speaker 1: this is the way that it's going to go, is
- 6:51Speaker 1: that we're going to see Staley is the defensive cordator,
- 6:55Speaker 1: nus Meyer is the offensive coordinator. But it will be
- 6:57Speaker 1: interesting to see there any other assistants from that Philadelphia
- 7:00Speaker 1: staff that Callimore may bring with him. To be continued
