  esteemed

  gentleman,
• 1:26
  a
• 1:26
  lover
• 1:26
  of

  Star

• 1:27
  as
• 1:27
  well,
• 1:27
  Justin
• 1:28
  Coleman.
• 1:28
  How's
• 1:28
  it
• 1:28
  going,
• 1:28
  Justin?
• 1:29
  I'm
• 1:29
  doing
• 1:30
  well,
• 1:30
  my
• 1:30
  friend.
• 1:30
  How
• 1:31
  are
• 1:31
  you?
• 1:31
  I'm
• 1:32
  doing
• 1:32
  all
• 1:32
  right.
• 1:32
  We're
• 1:33
  going
• 1:33
  to
• 1:33
  have
• 1:33
  fun
• 1:33
  and
• 1:34
  part
• 1:34
  of
• 1:34
  that
• 1:34
  is
• 1:34
  we're
• 1:35
  going
• 1:35
  to
• 1:35
  talk
• 1:35
  about
• 1:35
  what
• 1:35
  we're
• 1:35
  geeking
• 1:36
  out
• 1:36
  on.
• 1:36
  Justin,
• 1:36
  what
• 1:36
  have
• 1:36
  you
• 1:36
  been
• 1:37
  geeking
• 1:37
  out
• 1:37
  on
• 1:37
  recently?
• 1:38
  Oh,
• 1:38
  man.
• 1:38
  So
• 1:39
  I
• 1:39
  am
• 1:40
  one
• 1:41
  excited
• 1:42
  for
• 1:42
  this
• 1:43
  he
• 1:43
  man
• 1:43
  movie.
• 1:43
  I'm
• 1:44
  just.
• 1:44
  I'm
• 1:45
  ready
• 1:45
  for
• 1:45
  it.
• 1:45
  Want
• 1:46
  to
• 1:46
  see
• 1:46
  it.
• 1:47
  So
• 1:47
  geeking
• 1:47
  out
• 1:48
  in
• 1:48
  anticipation
• 1:48
  of
• 1:49
  this
• 1:49
  movie.
• 1:49
  Also,
• 1:51
  I
• 1:51
  think
• 1:52
  I've
• 1:52
  shared
• 1:52
  before
• 1:53
  that
• 1:53
  I
• 1:54
  have
• 1:54
  been
• 1:54
  following
• 1:54
  this
• 1:55
  show
• 1:55
  for
• 1:56
  all
• 1:56
  mankind
• 1:57
  and
• 1:58
  I'm
• 1:58
  really
• 1:58
  interested
• 1:59
  in
• 1:59
  how
• 2:00
  this
• 2:01
  season
• 2:01
  is
• 2:02
  progressing.
• 2:03
  So,
• 2:04
  yeah,
• 2:04
  those
• 2:04
  are
• 2:04
  the
• 2:04
  things
• 2:05
  I'm
• 2:05
  thinking,
• 2:05
  what
• 2:05
  about
• 2:06
  you?
• 2:06
  And
• 2:06
  my
• 2:06
  dad's
• 2:06
  been
• 2:06
  trying
• 2:07
  to
• 2:07
  get
• 2:07
  me
• 2:07
  to
• 2:07
  watch
• 2:07
  that
• 2:07
  one.
• 2:07
  It's
• 2:08
  on
• 2:08
  my
• 2:08
  list.
• 2:10
  Have
• 2:10
  you
• 2:10
  watched
• 2:10
  the
• 2:10
  80s
• 2:11
  masters
• 2:12
  of
• 2:12
  the
• 2:12
  Universe
• 2:12
  film
• 2:13
  by
• 2:13
  canon?
• 2:14
  Oh,
• 2:14
  yes,
• 2:15
  I
• 2:16
  know
• 2:16
  the
• 2:16
  whole
• 2:16
  movie,
• 2:17
  maybe
• 2:17
  by
• 2:17
  heart.
• 2:19
  That's
• 2:20
  never
• 2:20
  like,
• 2:20
  been
• 2:20
  my
• 2:20
  franchise,
• 2:21
  but
• 2:21
  it's
• 2:21
  like
• 2:22
  every
• 2:22
  now
• 2:22
  and
• 2:22
  then
• 2:22
  I'll
• 2:23
  watch
• 2:23
  the
• 2:23
  movie
• 2:23
  or
• 2:24
  an
• 2:24
  episode.
• 2:24
  It's
• 2:24
  fun.
• 2:25
  So,
• 2:25
  yeah,
• 2:25
  I'm
• 2:25
  looking
• 2:25
  forward
• 2:25
  to
• 2:26
  the
• 2:26
  movie
• 2:26
  too.
• 2:27
  But
• 2:27
  I've
• 2:28
  actually
• 2:28
  gotten
• 2:28
  back
• 2:29
  into
• 2:29
  Pokemon
• 2:30
  Go
• 2:31
  very
• 2:31
  recently.
• 2:32
  I
• 2:32
  was
• 2:32
  helping
• 2:32
  my
• 2:32
  brother
• 2:33
  move
• 2:33
  in
• 2:33
  Chicago
• 2:34
  to
• 2:34
  a
• 2:34
  new
• 2:34
  place.
• 2:35
  And
• 2:35
  you
• 2:36
  know,
• 2:36
  there's
• 2:36
  something
• 2:37
  they
• 2:37
  have
• 2:37
  there
• 2:37
  that
• 2:37
  they
• 2:38
  don't
• 2:38
  have
• 2:38
  here
• 2:38
  in
• 2:38
  rural
• 2:38
  Denver,
• 2:39
  North
• 2:39
  Carolina,
• 2:39
  and
• 2:40
  that's
• 2:40
  Pokestops.
• 2:41
  So
• 2:41
  you
• 2:41
  know
• 2:41
  what?
• 2:41
  Why
• 2:42
  not?
• 2:43
  It's
• 2:44
  been
• 2:44
  fun.
• 2:44
  I
• 2:44
  had
• 2:45
  to
• 2:45
  stop
• 2:45
  years
• 2:45
  ago
• 2:45
  because
• 2:45
  I
• 2:46
  was
• 2:46
  spending
• 2:46
  money
• 2:46
  on
• 2:46
  it
• 2:46
  and
• 2:47
  I
• 2:47
  have
• 2:47
  an
• 2:47
  addictive
• 2:47
  personality.
• 2:48
  So
• 2:48
  now
• 2:49
  am
• 2:49
  I
• 2:49
  in
• 2:49
  a
• 2:49
  better
• 2:49
  place?
• 2:50
  Can
• 2:50
  I
• 2:50
  stop
• 2:50
  myself?
• 2:51
  That's
• 2:51
  kind
• 2:51
  of
• 2:51
  a
• 2:52
  testing
• 2:52
  ground
• 2:52
  for
• 2:52
  me
• 2:52
  too.
• 2:52
  I
• 2:53
  also
• 2:53
  get
• 2:53
  to
• 2:53
  walk,
• 2:53
  which
• 2:53
  is
• 2:54
  something
• 2:54
  I
• 2:54
  need
• 2:54
  to
• 2:54
  be
• 2:54
  doing
• 2:55
  anyways
• 2:55
  for
• 2:55
  exercise.
• 2:58
  Well,
• 2:58
  I
• 2:58
  hope
• 2:58
  it
• 2:58
  goes
• 2:58
  well.
• 2:59
  I
• 2:59
  hope
• 3:00
  you
• 3:00
  don't
• 3:00
  fall
• 3:00
  off
• 3:00
  the
• 3:01
  pokey
• 3:01
  wagon.
• 3:01
  You're
• 3:02
  able
• 3:02
  to
• 3:02
  keep
• 3:02
  it
• 3:02
  in
• 3:02
  between
• 3:02
  the
• 3:03
  line.
• 3:04
  Like
• 3:04
  you're
• 3:05
  all
• 3:05
  my
• 3:05
  sponsors
• 3:05
  now.
• 3:06
  You're
• 3:06
  going
• 3:06
  to
• 3:06
  hold
• 3:06
  me
• 3:06
  accountable.
• 3:07
  Yeah,
• 3:10
  Christian
• 3:10
  spending
• 3:11
  money.
• 3:12
  All
• 3:13
  right,
• 3:13
  so
• 3:14
  getting
• 3:14
  into
• 3:15
  this
• 3:15
  premise
• 3:15
  as
• 3:15
  well.
• 3:15
  We're
• 3:16
  doing
• 3:16
  the
• 3:16
  faces
• 3:16
  behind
• 3:16
  us
• 3:17
  for
• 3:18
  we've
• 3:18
  done
• 3:18
  multiple
• 3:19
  characters
• 3:19
  now
• 3:19
  we're
• 3:20
  actually
• 3:20
  doing
• 3:20
  it
• 3:20
  for
• 3:20
  an
• 3:20
  organization.
• 3:22
  So
• 3:23
  many
• 3:23
  ways
• 3:24
  we
• 3:24
  could
• 3:24
  have
• 3:24
  gone
• 3:24
  through
• 3:24
  this.
• 3:25
  This
• 3:25
  is
• 3:25
  not
• 3:25
  a
• 3:26
  show
• 3:26
  about
• 3:27
  the
• 3:27
  Starfleet
• 3:28
  Academy
• 3:28
  show.
• 3:29
  I'M
• 3:29
  sure
• 3:29
  we'll
• 3:29
  probably
• 3:30
  bring
• 3:30
  it
• 3:30
  up
• 3:30
  at
• 3:30
  some
• 3:30
  point
• 3:30
  in
• 3:31
  time.
• 3:31
  I'm
• 3:31
  sure
• 3:31
  the
• 3:32
  opinions
• 3:32
  will
• 3:32
  abound
• 3:33
  on
• 3:33
  everything
• 3:33
  that
• 3:34
  happened
• 3:34
  there
• 3:35
  because
• 3:35
  we
• 3:35
  got
• 3:35
  one
• 3:36
  more
• 3:36
  season
• 3:36
  after
• 3:36
  this.
• 3:37
  Yes,
• 3:38
  as
• 3:38
  it
• 3:39
  got
• 3:39
  canceled.
• 3:39
  So,
• 3:40
  Justin,
• 3:41
  would
• 3:41
  you
• 3:41
  like
• 3:41
  to
• 3:41
  explain
• 3:41
  to
• 3:42
  the
• 3:42
  good
• 3:42
  people
• 3:42
  what
• 3:43
  Starfleet
• 3:43
  Academy
• 3:44
  is?
• 3:45
  Starfleet
• 3:45
  Academy
• 3:47
  is
• 3:48
  one
• 3:48
  of
• 3:48
  the
• 3:49
  greatest
• 3:50
  formation
• 3:51
  engines
• 3:51
  in
• 3:52
  all
• 3:52
  of
• 3:52
  science
• 3:53
  fiction.
• 3:53
  I'm
• 3:53
  going
• 3:53
  to
• 3:53
  lay
• 3:54
  stake
• 3:54
  to
• 3:54
  that
• 3:54
  claim.
• 3:55
  I
• 3:55
  mean,
• 3:56
  you
• 3:56
  might
• 3:56
  think
• 3:56
  about
• 3:58
  in
• 3:58
  Star
• 3:59
  wars,
• 4:00
  the
• 4:00
  Jedi
• 4:01
  Academy
• 4:02
  and
• 4:02
  how
• 4:02
  that
• 4:03
  works
• 4:03
  across
• 4:04
  time.
• 4:04
  Starfleet
• 4:05
  Academy
• 4:06
  also
• 4:06
  looms
• 4:07
  large.
• 4:07
  It's
• 4:07
  not
• 4:08
  just
• 4:08
  a
• 4:09
  school
• 4:09
  where
• 4:09
  you
• 4:10
  learn,
• 4:10
  you
• 4:11
  go
• 4:11
  to
• 4:11
  learn
• 4:11
  how
• 4:11
  to
• 4:13
  navigate
• 4:14
  or
• 4:14
  fly
• 4:15
  a
• 4:15
  ship,
• 4:15
  pilot
• 4:15
  a
• 4:16
  ship,
• 4:16
  or
• 4:17
  to
• 4:18
  recite
• 4:18
  all
• 4:19
  the
• 4:19
  regulations
• 4:20
  of
• 4:20
  Starfleet
• 4:21
  as
• 4:21
  well
• 4:21
  as
• 4:21
  Jean
• 4:22
  Luc
• 4:22
  Picard.
• 4:23
  But
• 4:24
  it's
• 4:24
  a
• 4:24
  place
• 4:24
  where
• 4:24
  you
• 4:24
  learn
• 4:25
  how
• 4:25
  to
• 4:25
  become
• 4:25
  a
• 4:26
  certain
• 4:26
  kind
• 4:26
  of
• 4:26
  person
• 4:27
  under
• 4:27
  pressure.
• 4:29
  It
• 4:30
  is
• 4:30
  meant
• 4:30
  to
• 4:31
  shape
• 4:32
  your
• 4:34
  curiosity
• 4:36
  and
• 4:36
  courage
• 4:37
  and
• 4:37
  diplomacy
• 4:38
  and
• 4:39
  sacrifice
• 4:40
  and
• 4:40
  responsibility.
• 4:41
  All
• 4:42
  these
• 4:42
  kinds
• 4:42
  of
• 4:42
  virtues
• 4:44
  that
• 4:44
  will
• 4:44
  make
• 4:46
  a
• 4:46
  person
• 4:47
  a
• 4:47
  graduate
• 4:47
  of
• 4:48
  Starfleet
• 4:48
  Academy,
• 4:49
  not
• 4:50
  only
• 4:50
  a
• 4:51
  good
• 4:51
  officer,
• 4:51
  but
• 4:52
  a
• 4:52
  good
• 4:52
  person.
• 4:53
  And
• 4:54
  you
• 4:54
  see
• 4:55
  those
• 4:55
  values
• 4:56
  coming
• 4:56
  up
• 4:56
  over
• 4:57
  and
• 4:57
  over
• 4:58
  again
• 5:00
  in
• 5:00
  Star
• 5:00
  Trek,
• 5:01
  particularly
• 5:02
  in
• 5:03
  Next
• 5:03
  Generation
• 5:04
  Forward,
• 5:05
  all
• 5:06
  the
• 5:06
  shows
• 5:06
  that
• 5:06
  were
• 5:06
  produced
• 5:07
  after
• 5:08
  that.
• 5:09
  And
• 5:10
  so,
• 5:11
  you
• 5:12
  know,
• 5:12
  the,
• 5:12
  the,
• 5:13
  and
• 5:13
  so
• 5:13
  it,
• 5:13
  it
• 5:13
  forms
• 5:14
  the
• 5:14
  best
• 5:14
  captains
• 5:15
  in
• 5:15
  the
• 5:15
  room
• 5:16
  in,
• 5:16
  in
• 5:16
  various
• 5:17
  ways.
• 5:17
  Not
• 5:17
  just,
• 5:18
  not
• 5:18
  just
• 5:18
  because
• 5:19
  they're
• 5:19
  the,
• 5:20
  the
• 5:20
  smartest,
• 5:22
  you
• 5:23
  know,
• 5:23
  but
• 5:23
  they're,
• 5:24
  and
• 5:24
  they're
• 5:24
  all
• 5:24
  very
• 5:25
  bright,
• 5:25
  these,
• 5:25
  these
• 5:26
  captains.
• 5:26
  And
• 5:27
  that's
• 5:27
  really
• 5:27
  how
• 5:27
  they
• 5:27
  lead
• 5:28
  ethically
• 5:29
  when,
• 5:30
  when
• 5:31
  the
• 5:31
  ethics
• 5:31
  of
• 5:31
  the
• 5:32
  situation
• 5:32
  becomes
• 5:33
  complicated.
• 5:34
  Starfleet
• 5:34
  Academy
• 5:35
  teaches
• 5:36
  you
• 5:36
  how
• 5:36
  to
• 5:36
  do
• 5:36
  that.
• 5:36
  Think
• 5:37
  of
• 5:37
  it
• 5:37
  like
• 5:37
  your
• 5:38
  ultimate
• 5:38
  college.
• 5:39
  Like,
• 5:39
  yeah,
• 5:40
  we've
• 5:40
  gone
• 5:41
  to
• 5:41
  the
• 5:41
  stars,
• 5:42
  we've
• 5:42
  experienced
• 5:43
  other
• 5:43
  races
• 5:44
  and
• 5:44
  now
• 5:44
  they're
• 5:44
  coming
• 5:45
  here
• 5:45
  to
• 5:45
  Earth.
• 5:45
  We're
• 5:45
  learning.
• 5:46
  We're
• 5:46
  in
• 5:46
  this
• 5:46
  one
• 5:47
  big
• 5:47
  happy
• 5:47
  federation
• 5:48
  which
• 5:48
  now
• 5:49
  has
• 5:49
  its,
• 5:49
  its
• 5:50
  creaks
• 5:51
  and
• 5:51
  cracks
• 5:51
  every
• 5:51
  now
• 5:51
  and
• 5:51
  then.
• 5:52
  But
• 5:52
  you
• 5:52
  know
• 5:52
  what?
• 5:52
  That's,
• 5:52
  that's
• 5:52
  part
• 5:53
  of
• 5:53
  the
• 5:53
  fun.
• 5:53
  We
• 5:53
  don't
• 5:53
  have
• 5:54
  a
• 5:54
  perfect
• 5:54
  system
• 5:54
  here,
• 5:55
  as
• 5:55
  much
• 5:55
  as
• 5:55
  Roddenberry
• 5:56
  wanted
• 5:56
  to
• 5:56
  make
• 5:56
  one.
• 5:57
  But
• 5:57
  you
• 5:57
  know
• 5:57
  what?
• 5:58
  It'
• 5:58
  thing,
• 5:58
  he's
• 5:59
  not
• 5:59
  in
• 5:59
  charge
• 5:59
  anymore.
• 6:00
  Rest
• 6:00
  in
• 6:00
  peace.
• 6:01
  But
• 6:02
  we,
• 6:02
  we
• 6:02
  still
• 6:02
  have
• 6:03
  this,
• 6:03
  this
• 6:04
  wonderful
• 6:04
  system
• 6:04
  of,
• 6:05
  hey,
• 6:05
  we
• 6:05
  have
• 6:06
  to
• 6:06
  learn
• 6:06
  about
• 6:06
  xenobiology
• 6:07
  now.
• 6:07
  It's
• 6:08
  not
• 6:08
  just
• 6:08
  human
• 6:08
  anatomy
• 6:09
  we
• 6:09
  have
• 6:09
  to
• 6:09
  care
• 6:09
  about.
• 6:10
  We
• 6:10
  have
• 6:10
  to
• 6:10
  care
• 6:10
  about
• 6:11
  history.
• 6:11
  That
• 6:11
  isn't
• 6:11
  just
• 6:12
  Earth
• 6:12
  history.
• 6:13
  You
• 6:13
  have
• 6:13
  to
• 6:13
  care
• 6:13
  about
• 6:14
  mapping
• 6:15
  planets
• 6:15
  out.
• 6:15
  How
• 6:15
  do
• 6:15
  you
• 6:15
  do
• 6:16
  it
• 6:16
  responsibly?
• 6:17
  Is
• 6:17
  the
• 6:17
  captain
• 6:17
  supposed
• 6:18
  to
• 6:18
  beam
• 6:18
  down
• 6:18
  immediately?
• 6:19
  Never.
• 6:19
  But
• 6:19
  you
• 6:19
  know
• 6:19
  what?
• 6:19
  We
• 6:20
  wouldn't
• 6:20
  have
• 6:20
  a
• 6:20
  show
• 6:20
  otherwise.
• 6:21
  All
• 6:21
  right,
• 6:21
  let's,
• 6:22
  let's,
• 6:22
  learn
• 6:22
  about
• 6:22
  how,
• 6:23
  how
• 6:23
  can
• 6:23
  we
• 6:23
  work
• 6:24
  together?
• 6:24
  Well,
• 6:24
  so
• 6:25
  like
• 6:25
  it's
• 6:25
  kind
• 6:25
  of
• 6:26
  one
• 6:26
  of
• 6:26
  the
• 6:26
  ultimate
• 6:26
  tests
• 6:27
  of
• 6:27
  can
• 6:27
  you
• 6:27
  work
• 6:28
  with
• 6:28
  other
• 6:28
  people
• 6:28
  as
• 6:28
  you
• 6:29
  are
• 6:29
  self
• 6:29
  increasing
• 6:29
  your
• 6:30
  own
• 6:30
  knowledge
• 6:31
  kind
• 6:31
  of
• 6:31
  ways.
• 6:32
  And
• 6:32
  there's
• 6:32
  multiple
• 6:32
  ways
• 6:33
  they
• 6:33
  do
• 6:33
  that.
• 6:33
  Like
• 6:33
  we
• 6:33
  don't
• 6:34
  get
• 6:34
  everything
• 6:35
  shown
• 6:35
  of
• 6:35
  like,
• 6:36
  hey,
• 6:36
  this
• 6:37
  class
• 6:37
  is
• 6:37
  taught
• 6:38
  by
• 6:38
  ex
• 6:38
  professor.
• 6:39
  Like
• 6:39
  every
• 6:39
  now
• 6:39
  there
• 6:39
  are
• 6:39
  mentions
• 6:40
  every
• 6:40
  now
• 6:40
  and
• 6:40
  then.
• 6:40
  So
• 6:40
  there
• 6:41
  aren't
• 6:41
  too
• 6:41
  many
• 6:42
  main
• 6:42
  characters
• 6:43
  of
• 6:43
  a
• 6:43
  Starfleet
• 6:44
  Academy
• 6:44
  in
• 6:44
  that
• 6:45
  sense
• 6:45
  as
• 6:45
  far
• 6:45
  as
• 6:46
  like
• 6:46
  leaders
• 6:47
  and
• 6:47
  directors
• 6:48
  and
• 6:48
  the
• 6:48
  like.
• 6:48
  But
• 6:49
  we
• 6:49
  get
• 6:49
  enough
• 6:49
  in
• 6:49
  the
• 6:49
  show
• 6:50
  especially
• 6:51
  you
• 6:51
  know,
• 6:51
  post
• 6:52
  Wrath
• 6:52
  of
• 6:52
  Khan
• 6:53
  where
• 6:53
  we're
• 6:53
  really
• 6:53
  kind
• 6:53
  of
• 6:54
  introduced
• 6:54
  to
• 6:54
  the
• 6:54
  concept
• 6:55
  of,
• 6:56
  you
• 6:56
  know,
• 6:56
  training
• 6:57
  a
• 6:58
  Starfleet
• 6:58
  officer
• 6:59
  before
• 6:59
  they
• 6:59
  head
• 6:59
  off
• 7:00
  into.
• 7:01
  To
• 7:01
  go
• 7:01
  where
• 7:01
  no
• 7:02
  man
• 7:02
  has
• 7:02
  gone
• 7:02
  before
• 7:03
  or
• 7:03
  no
• 7:03
  one
• 7:04
  has
• 7:04
  gone
• 7:04
  before
• 7:04
  as
• 7:04
  we
• 7:05
  want
• 7:05
  to
• 7:05
  say
• 7:05
  now.
• 7:07
  So
• 7:07
  before
• 7:07
  we
• 7:07
  go
• 7:08
  any
• 7:08
  further,
• 7:08
  Justin,
• 7:08
  like
• 7:09
  what
• 7:09
  is
• 7:09
  your
• 7:09
  history
• 7:09
  with
• 7:10
  like
• 7:10
  Star
• 7:11
  Trek
• 7:11
  as
• 7:11
  a
• 7:11
  whole?
• 7:12
  Yeah,
• 7:13
  so
• 7:14
  Star
• 7:14
  Trek
• 7:15
  is
• 7:16
  arguably
• 7:17
  where
• 7:17
  I
• 7:17
  learned
• 7:17
  to
• 7:18
  really
• 7:18
  love
• 7:19
  sci
• 7:19
  fi.
• 7:21
  I
• 7:21
  mean
• 7:22
  Star
• 7:22
  wars
• 7:23
  were
• 7:23
  working
• 7:23
  in
• 7:24
  kind
• 7:24
  of
• 7:25
  a
• 7:25
  parallel
• 7:25
  for
• 7:25
  me,
• 7:26
  but.
• 7:26
  But
• 7:27
  in
• 7:28
  those
• 7:28
  days
• 7:29
  Star
• 7:29
  Trek
• 7:29
  is
• 7:29
  where
• 7:29
  you
• 7:30
  could
• 7:30
  invest
• 7:31
  in
• 7:31
  a
• 7:31
  kind
• 7:31
  of
• 7:32
  a
• 7:32
  serial
• 7:32
  way,
• 7:33
  right?
• 7:33
  You
• 7:33
  know,
• 7:34
  watching,
• 7:35
  watching
• 7:35
  episodes.
• 7:36
  So
• 7:37
  I
• 7:38
  learned
• 7:38
  to
• 7:39
  love
• 7:39
  Star
• 7:40
  Trek
• 7:40
  with
• 7:41
  my,
• 7:41
  one
• 7:41
  of
• 7:41
  my
• 7:42
  older
• 7:42
  brothers
• 7:43
  who
• 7:43
  sat
• 7:43
  me
• 7:44
  down
• 7:44
  to
• 7:44
  watch
• 7:45
  episodes
• 7:46
  of
• 7:46
  the
• 7:47
  original
• 7:47
  series
• 7:48
  and
• 7:48
  talk
• 7:48
  about
• 7:49
  why
• 7:49
  he
• 7:50
  loved
• 7:51
  Kirk
• 7:52
  and
• 7:52
  Spock
• 7:53
  and
• 7:53
  Bones
• 7:54
  and
• 7:54
  you
• 7:55
  know,
• 7:55
  all
• 7:55
  the
• 7:55
  rest
• 7:55
  of
• 7:56
  In
• 7:56
  Uhura
• 7:57
  and
• 7:57
  all
• 7:57
  the
• 7:57
  rest
• 7:57
  of
• 7:58
  the
• 7:58
  bridge
• 7:59
  crew.
• 8:01
  So
• 8:01
  then.
• 8:02
  And
• 8:03
  I
• 8:03
  loved
• 8:03
  it
• 8:03
  because
• 8:04
  I
• 8:04
  wanted
• 8:04
  to
• 8:04
  hang
• 8:05
  out
• 8:05
  with
• 8:05
  my
• 8:05
  brother.
• 8:05
  And
• 8:06
  this
• 8:06
  was
• 8:06
  one
• 8:06
  of
• 8:06
  the
• 8:07
  ways
• 8:07
  that
• 8:07
  we
• 8:07
  could,
• 8:07
  we
• 8:08
  could
• 8:08
  do
• 8:08
  it.
• 8:09
  And
• 8:10
  then
• 8:10
  when
• 8:11
  the
• 8:11
  Next
• 8:11
  Generation
• 8:12
  came
• 8:12
  out,
• 8:13
  I
• 8:13
  was
• 8:13
  primed
• 8:14
  and
• 8:14
  ready
• 8:14
  for
• 8:14
  it.
• 8:16
  And
• 8:17
  boy,
• 8:17
  that
• 8:17
  became
• 8:18
  my
• 8:18
  show.
• 8:18
  It
• 8:19
  such
• 8:19
  that
• 8:20
  to
• 8:20
  the
• 8:20
  extent
• 8:21
  possible
• 8:22
  I
• 8:22
  would
• 8:23
  myself
• 8:24
  but
• 8:24
  also
• 8:24
  help
• 8:24
  my
• 8:25
  family
• 8:26
  to
• 8:26
  be
• 8:26
  home
• 8:27
  in
• 8:28
  time
• 8:29
  to
• 8:29
  watch
• 8:29
  it
• 8:30
  when
• 8:30
  it
• 8:30
  premiered
• 8:31
  every
• 8:32
  week.
• 8:32
  So
• 8:32
  I
• 8:33
  remember
• 8:33
  times
• 8:33
  in
• 8:34
  the
• 8:34
  car,
• 8:34
  in
• 8:35
  the,
• 8:35
  in
• 8:35
  the,
• 8:36
  in
• 8:36
  the
• 8:37
  station
• 8:37
  wagon
• 8:38
  with
• 8:38
  my
• 8:39
  parents
• 8:40
  saying
• 8:41
  It's.
• 8:42
  We
• 8:42
  got
• 8:42
  10
• 8:43
  minutes
• 8:43
  left.
• 8:44
  Like
• 8:44
  dad,
• 8:45
  could
• 8:45
  we
• 8:45
  drive
• 8:45
  any
• 8:46
  faster?
• 8:47
  I
• 8:47
  don't
• 8:48
  want
• 8:48
  to
• 8:48
  miss
• 8:49
  the
• 8:49
  beginning.
• 8:50
  So
• 8:51
  yeah,
• 8:51
  that
• 8:51
  was
• 8:51
  my.
• 8:53
  And
• 8:53
  I
• 8:53
  love
• 8:54
  Next.
• 8:54
  I
• 8:54
  love
• 8:54
  Next
• 8:55
  Generation.
• 8:55
  Even
• 8:55
  still
• 8:56
  today
• 8:56
  it
• 8:56
  is
• 8:57
  like
• 8:57
  a,
• 8:57
  it's
• 8:57
  like
• 8:58
  a
• 8:58
  comfort
• 8:58
  food
• 8:59
  of
• 9:00
  tv.
• 9:01
  And
• 9:02
  so
• 9:02
  if
• 9:02
  I'm
• 9:02
  just
• 9:03
  milling
• 9:03
  around
• 9:03
  the
• 9:03
  house
• 9:04
  or
• 9:05
  just
• 9:05
  wanna.
• 9:05
  It's
• 9:05
  been
• 9:06
  a
• 9:06
  tough
• 9:06
  week
• 9:06
  throwing
• 9:07
  some
• 9:07
  TNG
• 9:09
  and
• 9:10
  relax
• 9:11
  and
• 9:11
  have
• 9:11
  a
• 9:12
  good
• 9:12
  time.
• 9:12
  And
• 9:12
  that
• 9:12
  throws
• 9:13
  me
• 9:13
  back
• 9:13
  just
• 9:14
  to
• 9:14
  days
• 9:14
  of
• 9:15
  like
• 9:16
  before
• 9:16
  streaming
• 9:17
  and
• 9:17
  everything
• 9:17
  before
• 9:18
  like
• 9:18
  next
• 9:18
  day
• 9:19
  releases.
• 9:20
  You
• 9:20
  had
• 9:20
  to
• 9:21
  be
• 9:21
  there.
• 9:21
  You
• 9:21
  literally
• 9:22
  had
• 9:22
  to
• 9:22
  be
• 9:22
  there.
• 9:22
  You
• 9:22
  had
• 9:22
  to
• 9:23
  choose
• 9:23
  which
• 9:23
  channel
• 9:23
  you
• 9:24
  were
• 9:24
  gonna
• 9:24
  Watch.
• 9:25
  And
• 9:25
  you
• 9:25
  had
• 9:25
  limited
• 9:25
  options
• 9:26
  then,
• 9:26
  but
• 9:26
  still,
• 9:26
  you
• 9:27
  had
• 9:27
  to
• 9:27
  choose
• 9:27
  that
• 9:27
  one.
• 9:27
  And
• 9:27
  you
• 9:28
  had
• 9:28
  to
• 9:28
  choose
• 9:28
  to
• 9:28
  be
• 9:28
  there
• 9:29
  at
• 9:29
  the
• 9:29
  time
• 9:29
  it
• 9:29
  was
• 9:29
  gonna
• 9:30
  premiere.
• 9:31
  Otherwise
• 9:31
  you'd
• 9:31
  have
• 9:32
  to
• 9:32
  wait
• 9:32
  for
• 9:32
  reruns
• 9:33
  or
• 9:33
  you'd
• 9:34
  have
• 9:34
  to
• 9:34
  just,
• 9:35
  like,
• 9:35
  go.
• 9:35
  The
• 9:35
  next
• 9:36
  morning,
• 9:36
  I
• 9:36
  didn't
• 9:36
  get
• 9:36
  to
• 9:36
  see
• 9:37
  what
• 9:37
  happened.
• 9:41
  I
• 9:41
  mean,
• 9:41
  I
• 9:41
  had
• 9:42
  my.
• 9:42
  My.
• 9:42
  One
• 9:42
  of
• 9:42
  my
• 9:43
  best
• 9:43
  friends,
• 9:43
  Mark.
• 9:44
  He
• 9:44
  and
• 9:44
  I
• 9:44
  would
• 9:45
  watch
• 9:45
  every
• 9:45
  single
• 9:46
  time
• 9:46
  together.
• 9:46
  And,
• 9:47
  like,
• 9:47
  as
• 9:47
  soon
• 9:47
  as
• 9:47
  the
• 9:48
  episode
• 9:48
  was
• 9:48
  over,
• 9:48
  we
• 9:48
  pick
• 9:49
  up
• 9:49
  the
• 9:49
  phone,
• 9:49
  hey,
• 9:50
  what
• 9:50
  do
• 9:50
  you
• 9:50
  think
• 9:50
  about
• 9:50
  this?
• 9:50
  This
• 9:51
  and
• 9:51
  this?
• 9:52
  And
• 9:52
  I
• 9:52
  never
• 9:53
  wanted
• 9:53
  to
• 9:53
  be
• 9:53
  the
• 9:54
  one
• 9:54
  who's
• 9:54
  like,
• 9:54
  dude,
• 9:55
  I
• 9:55
  missed
• 9:55
  it.
• 9:56
  What.
• 9:57
  What
• 9:57
  happened?
• 9:59
  Yeah,
• 9:59
  that's
• 10:00
  perfect.
• 10:00
  Yeah.
• 10:01
  For
• 10:01
  me,
• 10:02
  like
• 10:02
  you
• 10:02
  said
• 10:02
  with
• 10:02
  Star
• 10:03
  Wars,
• 10:03
  I
• 10:03
  can't
• 10:03
  really.
• 10:04
  Like,
• 10:04
  there's
• 10:04
  not
• 10:04
  even
• 10:05
  a
• 10:05
  time
• 10:05
  in
• 10:05
  my
• 10:05
  life
• 10:05
  I
• 10:05
  can
• 10:05
  imagine
• 10:06
  that
• 10:06
  this
• 10:06
  wasn't
• 10:06
  a
• 10:07
  part
• 10:07
  of
• 10:07
  my
• 10:07
  life.
• 10:09
  I
• 10:09
  grew
• 10:09
  up
• 10:09
  with
• 10:09
  these
• 10:10
  and,
• 10:11
  like,
• 10:11
  the
• 10:11
  whole
• 10:12
  Trekkie
• 10:12
  versus
• 10:13
  Star
• 10:13
  wars
• 10:14
  fan,
• 10:14
  like,
• 10:14
  it
• 10:14
  was
• 10:14
  never
• 10:14
  a
• 10:15
  thing.
• 10:15
  Yeah.
• 10:15
  I
• 10:15
  still
• 10:15
  prefer
• 10:16
  Star
• 10:16
  wars
• 10:16
  overall,
• 10:17
  but
• 10:17
  I
• 10:17
  was
• 10:17
  like,
• 10:18
  why
• 10:18
  do
• 10:18
  I
• 10:18
  have
• 10:18
  to
• 10:18
  choose?
• 10:19
  Like,
• 10:19
  I
• 10:20
  love
• 10:20
  both
• 10:20
  of
• 10:20
  these.
• 10:21
  My
• 10:21
  dad
• 10:22
  was
• 10:22
  a
• 10:23
  huge
• 10:23
  Trekkie
• 10:23
  growing
• 10:24
  up.
• 10:25
  He
• 10:25
  watched
• 10:26
  the.
• 10:27
  When
• 10:27
  it
• 10:27
  was
• 10:27
  in
• 10:27
  syndication
• 10:28
  because
• 10:29
  he
• 10:29
  was
• 10:29
  just
• 10:29
  a
• 10:29
  little
• 10:29
  boy.
• 10:31
  He
• 10:31
  would
• 10:31
  always
• 10:31
  fight
• 10:31
  with
• 10:32
  his
• 10:32
  sister
• 10:32
  because,
• 10:33
  like,
• 10:33
  she
• 10:33
  would
• 10:33
  always
• 10:33
  want
• 10:33
  to
• 10:34
  watch.
• 10:34
  Like,
• 10:34
  I
• 10:34
  think
• 10:34
  it
• 10:34
  was
• 10:34
  like
• 10:35
  a
• 10:35
  Davy
• 10:35
  Crockett
• 10:36
  show
• 10:36
  that
• 10:36
  was
• 10:36
  on
• 10:36
  at
• 10:36
  the
• 10:36
  same
• 10:36
  time
• 10:37
  Star
• 10:37
  Trek
• 10:37
  would
• 10:37
  run,
• 10:38
  and
• 10:38
  it
• 10:39
  would
• 10:39
  be
• 10:39
  like,
• 10:39
  who
• 10:39
  would
• 10:39
  get
• 10:39
  to
• 10:40
  win.
• 10:40
  Like,
• 10:40
  whenever
• 10:41
  his
• 10:41
  dad
• 10:41
  wanted
• 10:41
  to
• 10:41
  watch
• 10:42
  a
• 10:42
  baseball
• 10:42
  game
• 10:42
  or
• 10:42
  something,
• 10:43
  like,
• 10:43
  there
• 10:43
  would
• 10:43
  always
• 10:43
  be
• 10:44
  conflicts
• 10:44
  between
• 10:44
  them.
• 10:45
  But
• 10:46
  growing
• 10:46
  up,
• 10:47
  TNG
• 10:47
  was
• 10:47
  airing.
• 10:48
  It
• 10:49
  started
• 10:49
  three
• 10:49
  years
• 10:49
  before
• 10:50
  I
• 10:50
  was
• 10:50
  born,
• 10:51
  so
• 10:51
  I
• 10:51
  didn't
• 10:51
  really.
• 10:52
  I
• 10:52
  was.
• 10:52
  Would
• 10:53
  watch
• 10:53
  it
• 10:53
  with
• 10:53
  him
• 10:53
  as
• 10:54
  a
• 10:54
  kid,
• 10:54
  but
• 10:54
  not
• 10:54
  really
• 10:54
  understand
• 10:55
  anything
• 10:56
  until
• 10:57
  I
• 10:57
  got
• 10:57
  to
• 10:57
  a
• 10:57
  certain
• 10:57
  age.
• 10:58
  We
• 10:58
  watched
• 10:58
  the
• 10:58
  original
• 10:59
  series
• 10:59
  together.
• 11:00
  Beat
• 11:01
  Space
• 11:01
  9,
• 11:01
  Voyager,
• 11:03
  eventually
• 11:03
  Enterprise.
• 11:04
  When
• 11:04
  that
• 11:04
  came
• 11:04
  out,
• 11:04
  it's
• 11:05
  just
• 11:05
  kind
• 11:05
  of
• 11:05
  one
• 11:05
  of
• 11:06
  those
• 11:06
  things
• 11:06
  that
• 11:06
  has
• 11:06
  always
• 11:06
  brought
• 11:07
  us
• 11:07
  closer
• 11:07
  together,
• 11:08
  and
• 11:08
  it's
• 11:09
  how
• 11:09
  I
• 11:09
  know
• 11:09
  I'm
• 11:09
  the
• 11:09
  favorite,
• 11:10
  because
• 11:10
  no
• 11:10
  other
• 11:10
  child
• 11:11
  has
• 11:12
  watched
• 11:12
  Star
• 11:12
  Trek
• 11:13
  and
• 11:13
  enjoyed
• 11:13
  it
• 11:13
  outside
• 11:13
  of
• 11:14
  my
• 11:14
  sister
• 11:14
  for
• 11:15
  the
• 11:15
  movies,
• 11:15
  because
• 11:15
  she
• 11:16
  just
• 11:16
  finds
• 11:16
  Chris
• 11:16
  Pine
• 11:17
  hot.
• 11:17
  But
• 11:18
  that's
• 11:18
  it.
• 11:24
  Oh,
• 11:25
  man.
• 11:25
  So
• 11:26
  good.
• 11:27
  The
• 11:27
  origin
• 11:28
  stories
• 11:28
  of
• 11:28
  Star
• 11:28
  Trek.
• 11:29
  Yeah,
• 11:29
  I
• 11:29
  mean,
• 11:29
  I
• 11:29
  was
• 11:29
  in.
• 11:30
  I
• 11:31
  was
• 11:31
  in
• 11:31
  elementary
• 11:32
  school
• 11:32
  when
• 11:32
  TNG
• 11:33
  came
• 11:33
  out,
• 11:34
  so
• 11:34
  it
• 11:34
  was
• 11:34
  my.
• 11:35
  And
• 11:35
  I
• 11:35
  still
• 11:36
  have
• 11:36
  in
• 11:37
  my
• 11:37
  office
• 11:39
  at
• 11:39
  the
• 11:39
  church,
• 11:40
  my
• 11:41
  full
• 11:42
  Enterprise
• 11:43
  D
• 11:43
  bridge
• 11:44
  set
• 11:45
  and
• 11:45
  bridge
• 11:46
  officers
• 11:47
  there.
• 11:48
  And
• 11:48
  so
• 11:48
  when
• 11:49
  anyone
• 11:49
  comes
• 11:49
  to
• 11:49
  my
• 11:49
  office,
• 11:50
  they
• 11:50
  see
• 11:50
  all
• 11:50
  this
• 11:51
  religious
• 11:51
  stuff.
• 11:52
  Then
• 11:52
  on
• 11:52
  this
• 11:52
  big
• 11:53
  table,
• 11:53
  they're
• 11:53
  like,
• 11:53
  so,
• 11:54
  what
• 11:54
  is
• 11:54
  this?
• 11:56
  And
• 11:56
  I
• 11:56
  said,
• 11:56
  ah,
• 11:57
  here
• 11:57
  is
• 11:58
  this.
• 11:59
  Helps
• 11:59
  you
• 11:59
  to
• 11:59
  Know
• 12:00
  that
• 12:00
  my
• 12:01
  priesthood
• 12:01
  is
• 12:02
  also
• 12:02
  to
• 12:02
  the
• 12:02
  geeks.
• 12:05
  I
• 12:05
  should
• 12:05
  probably
• 12:06
  one
• 12:06
  day
• 12:06
  film
• 12:07
  and
• 12:07
  just
• 12:07
  put
• 12:08
  on
• 12:08
  YouTube
• 12:08
  or
• 12:08
  something.
• 12:08
  Like
• 12:09
  my
• 12:09
  dad's
• 12:09
  room
• 12:09
  right
• 12:10
  now,
• 12:10
  he's
• 12:10
  got
• 12:11
  all
• 12:11
  the
• 12:12
  different
• 12:12
  ships
• 12:13
  and
• 12:14
  action
• 12:14
  figures.
• 12:15
  That's
• 12:16
  just
• 12:16
  the
• 12:16
  Star
• 12:16
  Trek
• 12:16
  stuff.
• 12:17
  He's
• 12:17
  also
• 12:17
  got
• 12:17
  like,
• 12:17
  you
• 12:18
  know,
• 12:18
  Hercules
• 12:18
  and
• 12:18
  Space
• 12:19
  Ghost
• 12:19
  and
• 12:20
  all
• 12:20
  this
• 12:20
  other
• 12:21
  stuff
• 12:21
  up
• 12:21
  there.
• 12:21
  It's
• 12:22
  like,
• 12:22
  you
• 12:22
  know
• 12:22
  what,
• 12:22
  that
• 12:23
  you
• 12:23
  couldn't
• 12:23
  mistake
• 12:24
  that
• 12:24
  this
• 12:24
  man
• 12:24
  is
• 12:24
  a
• 12:25
  geek.
• 12:25
  That's
• 12:25
  how
• 12:25
  his
• 12:25
  room
• 12:26
  was
• 12:26
  when
• 12:26
  he
• 12:26
  was
• 12:26
  teaching.
• 12:27
  It
• 12:28
  was
• 12:28
  same
• 12:28
  thing.
• 12:28
  He
• 12:28
  had
• 12:28
  posters
• 12:29
  all
• 12:29
  over
• 12:29
  the
• 12:29
  walls
• 12:30
  for
• 12:30
  health
• 12:30
  and
• 12:31
  PE
• 12:31
  class.
• 12:32
  You
• 12:32
  know,
• 12:33
  Marvel
• 12:33
  and
• 12:33
  Star
• 12:34
  Trek
• 12:34
  and
• 12:34
  Star
• 12:34
  wars
• 12:34
  and
• 12:35
  everything.
• 12:35
  It's
• 12:35
  like.
• 12:35
  Yep,
• 12:36
  no
• 12:36
  mistaking
• 12:36
  it.
• 12:36
  Yeah,
• 12:37
  I
• 12:37
  know
• 12:37
  where
• 12:37
  I
• 12:37
  get
• 12:38
  it
• 12:38
  from.
• 12:38
  I
• 12:38
  get
• 12:38
  it,
• 12:38
  honest.
• 12:39
  Yeah,
• 12:39
  right.
• 12:42
  All
• 13:33
  right,
• 13:33
  so
• 13:34
  I'm
• 13:34
  going
• 13:34
  to
• 13:34
  ask
• 13:34
  a
• 13:34
  difficult
• 13:35
  question
• 13:35
  next
• 13:36
  because
• 13:36
  it
• 13:37
  kind
• 13:37
  of
• 13:37
  breaks
• 13:38
  everything.
• 13:39
  But
• 13:39
  that's
• 13:39
  one
• 13:40
  of
• 13:40
  the
• 13:40
  good
• 13:40
  things.
• 13:40
  As
• 13:40
  we've
• 13:40
  noticed
• 13:41
  several
• 13:41
  times
• 13:41
  before,
• 13:42
  these
• 13:42
  things
• 13:42
  aren't
• 13:43
  here.
• 13:43
  The
• 13:43
  people
• 13:44
  that
• 13:44
  don't
• 13:45
  help
• 13:45
  build
• 13:45
  us
• 13:45
  up
• 13:46
  are
• 13:46
  there
• 13:46
  or
• 13:46
  the
• 13:47
  character
• 13:47
  we're
• 13:47
  talking
• 13:47
  about
• 13:47
  isn't
• 13:48
  there.
• 13:48
  Like
• 13:48
  the
• 13:48
  story
• 13:48
  would
• 13:49
  break.
• 13:49
  So,
• 13:49
  Justin,
• 13:50
  if
• 13:50
  Starfleet
• 13:50
  Academy
• 13:51
  doesn't
• 13:51
  exist,
• 13:52
  how
• 13:53
  does
• 13:53
  the
• 13:53
  story
• 13:53
  of
• 13:53
  Star
• 13:54
  Trek
• 13:54
  progress
• 13:54
  at
• 13:55
  all?
• 13:55
  So
• 13:56
  if
• 13:56
  Starfleet
• 13:57
  Academy
• 13:58
  didn't
• 13:58
  exist,
• 14:00
  I
• 14:01
  think
• 14:01
  that
• 14:02
  the,
• 14:04
  the
• 14:04
  Federation
• 14:06
  would
• 14:06
  be
• 14:07
  more
• 14:08
  Earth
• 14:09
  centric
• 14:09
  and
• 14:10
  more
• 14:10
  militaristic.
• 14:11
  Okay.
• 14:13
  And
• 14:13
  so,
• 14:14
  so
• 14:14
  it's
• 14:14
  like
• 14:14
  one
• 14:14
  of
• 14:15
  these,
• 14:15
  you
• 14:15
  know,
• 14:15
  parallel
• 14:16
  universe
• 14:16
  kind
• 14:16
  of,
• 14:17
  kind
• 14:17
  of
• 14:17
  things
• 14:18
  within.
• 14:19
  Not
• 14:19
  full
• 14:19
  mirror,
• 14:20
  but
• 14:20
  not
• 14:20
  exactly
• 14:21
  better.
• 14:21
  Yeah.
• 14:22
  Right.
• 14:22
  So,
• 14:23
  because
• 14:23
  I,
• 14:23
  I
• 14:24
  think
• 14:24
  that
• 14:25
  the,
• 14:26
  for
• 14:26
  me,
• 14:26
  Starfleet
• 14:26
  Academy
• 14:27
  represents.
• 14:28
  The,
• 14:30
  represents
• 14:31
  virtue
• 14:31
  formation
• 14:32
  that
• 14:33
  moves
• 14:34
  characters
• 14:35
  beyond
• 14:36
  fear
• 14:36
  of
• 14:37
  the
• 14:37
  other
• 14:39
  and
• 14:40
  toward
• 14:40
  this
• 14:41
  heart,
• 14:41
  toward
• 14:42
  exploration.
• 14:43
  And
• 14:43
  you
• 14:44
  see
• 14:44
  even
• 14:44
  within
• 14:44
  Starfleet
• 14:45
  Academy
• 14:45
  that
• 14:46
  is
• 14:46
  this
• 14:47
  tension
• 14:48
  in
• 14:48
  between
• 14:48
  the
• 14:48
  two.
• 14:49
  Who
• 14:49
  are
• 14:50
  we?
• 14:51
  But
• 14:51
  I
• 14:52
  think
• 14:52
  that
• 14:52
  without
• 14:53
  that
• 14:54
  kind
• 14:54
  of
• 14:54
  virtue
• 14:55
  formation,
• 14:56
  what
• 14:56
  we
• 14:57
  find
• 14:57
  in
• 14:57
  the,
• 14:57
  in
• 14:58
  the
• 14:58
  human
• 14:58
  character
• 14:59
  at
• 14:59
  least
• 14:59
  is
• 15:00
  that
• 15:00
  we
• 15:00
  tend.
• 15:02
  Our
• 15:02
  fear
• 15:03
  moves
• 15:04
  us
• 15:04
  to
• 15:04
  tend
• 15:04
  toward
• 15:04
  militarism.
• 15:07
  And
• 15:07
  so
• 15:08
  it,
• 15:09
  you
• 15:09
  know,
• 15:09
  would
• 15:09
  we
• 15:09
  reach
• 15:10
  for
• 15:10
  the
• 15:10
  stars?
• 15:12
  Yes.
• 15:14
  Would
• 15:14
  we
• 15:14
  have
• 15:14
  done
• 15:14
  that?
• 15:15
  Would
• 15:15
  we
• 15:16
  be
• 15:17
  as
• 15:17
  open
• 15:18
  and
• 15:19
  inclusive
• 15:20
  of
• 15:20
  others
• 15:20
  as
• 15:21
  we
• 15:21
  journey
• 15:21
  through
• 15:21
  space?
• 15:22
  I'm
• 15:23
  not
• 15:23
  sure.
• 15:24
  And
• 15:24
  so
• 15:24
  especially
• 15:28
  as
• 15:28
  you
• 15:28
  encounter
• 15:29
  groups
• 15:29
  like
• 15:30
  the
• 15:30
  Romulans
• 15:31
  and
• 15:31
  Klingons
• 15:32
  kind
• 15:32
  of
• 15:33
  early
• 15:33
  on
• 15:34
  who
• 15:34
  are
• 15:35
  more
• 15:35
  militaristic,
• 15:38
  we
• 15:38
  could
• 15:39
  have
• 15:39
  very
• 15:39
  easily
• 15:40
  just
• 15:40
  matched
• 15:41
  energy.
• 15:41
  You
• 15:42
  saying
• 15:42
  that
• 15:42
  actually
• 15:42
  prompted
• 15:43
  something
• 15:43
  I
• 15:43
  should
• 15:43
  have
• 15:43
  added
• 15:43
  to
• 15:44
  the
• 15:44
  outline.
• 15:44
  So
• 15:44
  I'm
• 15:45
  going
• 15:45
  to
• 15:45
  throw
• 15:45
  it
• 15:45
  here.
• 15:46
  Is
• 15:47
  Starfleet
• 15:47
  a
• 15:47
  military?
• 15:48
  Well,
• 15:49
  yeah.
• 15:49
  I
• 15:50
  mean,
• 15:53
  is.
• 15:53
  See,
• 15:54
  that's
• 15:54
  the
• 15:54
  thing.
• 15:54
  It
• 15:55
  is
• 15:55
  a,
• 15:55
  it
• 15:56
  is
• 15:56
  a
• 15:56
  military
• 15:57
  in
• 15:57
  a
• 15:58
  sense.
• 15:58
  I
• 15:58
  mean,
• 15:58
  it's,
• 15:58
  it's
• 15:59
  Patterned
• 16:00
  and
• 16:01
  it's
• 16:01
  naming
• 16:02
  of
• 16:02
  ships
• 16:02
  and
• 16:02
  it's
• 16:03
  how
• 16:03
  it
• 16:03
  ranks
• 16:03
  its
• 16:04
  officers,
• 16:05
  all
• 16:05
  these
• 16:05
  things.
• 16:06
  It's
• 16:06
  a
• 16:06
  military
• 16:07
  organization
• 16:09
  that
• 16:09
  is
• 16:10
  choosing
• 16:11
  to
• 16:11
  allow
• 16:15
  it's
• 16:15
  curiosity
• 16:16
  and
• 16:16
  exploration
• 16:18
  to
• 16:19
  win
• 16:20
  out.
• 16:20
  So
• 16:20
  we're
• 16:21
  on
• 16:21
  the,
• 16:21
  on
• 16:21
  the
• 16:22
  personality
• 16:22
  test
• 16:23
  on
• 16:23
  the
• 16:23
  Myers
• 16:23
  Briggs.
• 16:24
  It's
• 16:25
  like,
• 16:26
  it
• 16:26
  is
• 16:27
  like
• 16:27
  one
• 16:27
  of
• 16:27
  those,
• 16:27
  like
• 16:28
  I'm
• 16:28
  a
• 16:28
  close
• 16:28
  T
• 16:28
  or
• 16:29
  a
• 16:29
  close
• 16:29
  J
• 16:29
  is
• 16:30
  right
• 16:30
  at
• 16:30
  the
• 16:30
  edge.
• 16:31
  And
• 16:32
  so
• 16:33
  it
• 16:34
  is,
• 16:35
  it's
• 16:35
  closer.
• 16:36
  So
• 16:36
  it
• 16:37
  gets
• 16:37
  close
• 16:37
  to
• 16:37
  50,
• 16:38
  50.
• 16:38
  What
• 16:38
  you
• 16:39
  see
• 16:39
  at
• 16:40
  least
• 16:40
  in
• 16:40
  the,
• 16:40
  in
• 16:41
  the
• 16:41
  next
• 16:41
  generation
• 16:42
  moving
• 16:42
  forward
• 16:43
  is
• 16:43
  this
• 16:43
  sense
• 16:43
  of
• 16:44
  we
• 16:44
  are
• 16:44
  trying
• 16:45
  to
• 16:45
  be,
• 16:47
  trying
• 16:47
  to
• 16:47
  make
• 16:47
  this
• 16:47
  like
• 16:47
  a
• 16:48
  60,
• 16:48
  40
• 16:49
  split
• 16:49
  or
• 16:49
  55
• 16:53
  because
• 16:54
  it
• 16:54
  is
• 16:55
  55,
• 16:55
  45
• 16:56
  because
• 16:57
  we
• 16:57
  want
• 16:57
  to
• 16:58
  say
• 16:58
  that
• 16:58
  we
• 16:59
  lean
• 17:00
  toward
• 17:00
  exploration
• 17:02
  but
• 17:02
  it
• 17:03
  doesn't
• 17:03
  take
• 17:03
  long
• 17:04
  before
• 17:05
  the
• 17:05
  militarism
• 17:06
  really
• 17:06
  has
• 17:06
  to.
• 17:07
  But
• 17:07
  we
• 17:08
  always
• 17:08
  have
• 17:08
  to
• 17:08
  be.
• 17:08
  We
• 17:09
  want
• 17:09
  to
• 17:09
  lean
• 17:09
  toward
• 17:09
  exploration
• 17:10
  but
• 17:10
  we
• 17:10
  must
• 17:11
  always
• 17:11
  be
• 17:11
  prepared,
• 17:12
  be
• 17:13
  militant.
• 17:13
  That's
• 17:14
  I
• 17:14
  think
• 17:15
  the
• 17:15
  way
• 17:16
  it
• 17:16
  casts
• 17:17
  it.
• 17:17
  And
• 17:17
  so
• 17:17
  because
• 17:18
  that
• 17:18
  balance
• 17:18
  is
• 17:18
  so
• 17:19
  close
• 17:20
  and
• 17:20
  seemingly
• 17:20
  those
• 17:21
  things
• 17:21
  that
• 17:21
  they
• 17:21
  teach
• 17:22
  that,
• 17:23
  that
• 17:23
  Picard
• 17:24
  will,
• 17:24
  will
• 17:25
  speak
• 17:25
  eloquently
• 17:26
  about,
• 17:26
  related
• 17:27
  to
• 17:27
  Starfleet
• 17:27
  Academy,
• 17:28
  that
• 17:28
  is
• 17:28
  what
• 17:29
  makes
• 17:29
  you
• 17:29
  lean
• 17:30
  toward
• 17:31
  exploration.
• 17:32
  I
• 17:33
  mean
• 17:33
  without
• 17:33
  that
• 17:34
  I
• 17:34
  think
• 17:35
  we'd,
• 17:36
  we'd
• 17:36
  be
• 17:37
  tempted
• 17:39
  strongly
• 17:39
  to
• 17:40
  move
• 17:40
  the
• 17:40
  other
• 17:40
  way.
• 17:40
  Yeah,
• 17:41
  what's
• 17:41
  that?
• 17:41
  I
• 17:42
  start
• 17:42
  fleet
• 17:43
  of
• 17:43
  military.
• 17:43
  Is
• 17:43
  it
• 17:43
  just
• 17:44
  exploration?
• 17:44
  I
• 17:44
  think
• 17:45
  that's
• 17:45
  a
• 17:45
  false
• 17:45
  dichotomy.
• 17:46
  I
• 17:46
  think
• 17:46
  it's
• 17:46
  both.
• 17:46
  I
• 17:47
  think
• 17:47
  it's
• 17:47
  a
• 17:48
  group
• 17:48
  of
• 17:48
  explorers
• 17:48
  who
• 17:49
  have
• 17:49
  a
• 17:49
  military
• 17:50
  presence
• 17:50
  because
• 17:50
  if
• 17:51
  you're
• 17:51
  going
• 17:51
  to
• 17:51
  be
• 17:51
  intelligent,
• 17:52
  if
• 17:52
  you're
• 17:52
  going
• 17:52
  to
• 17:52
  be
• 17:52
  shrewd,
• 17:53
  you
• 17:54
  need
• 17:54
  to
• 17:54
  have
• 17:54
  guns
• 17:55
  in
• 17:55
  order
• 17:55
  to
• 17:55
  protect
• 17:56
  yourself
• 17:56
  against
• 17:56
  people
• 17:56
  who
• 17:57
  have
• 17:57
  guns.
• 17:58
  You
• 17:58
  know,
• 17:58
  like
• 17:59
  phasers,
• 17:59
  torpedoes
• 18:00
  exist
• 18:01
  because
• 18:01
  other
• 18:02
  people
• 18:02
  may
• 18:02
  not
• 18:02
  be
• 18:03
  as
• 18:03
  friendly
• 18:03
  as
• 18:03
  you
• 18:03
  are.
• 18:04
  And
• 18:04
  while
• 18:04
  you
• 18:05
  having
• 18:05
  weapons
• 18:05
  doesn't
• 18:06
  mean
• 18:06
  you're
• 18:06
  not
• 18:06
  friendly,
• 18:06
  it
• 18:07
  means,
• 18:07
  oh,
• 18:07
  just
• 18:08
  in
• 18:08
  case
• 18:08
  someone
• 18:08
  else
• 18:08
  isn't
• 18:09
  friendly,
• 18:09
  I
• 18:09
  can
• 18:09
  protect
• 18:10
  and
• 18:10
  defend
• 18:10
  myself
• 18:10
  and
• 18:11
  other
• 18:11
  people
• 18:11
  so
• 18:12
  that
• 18:12
  they
• 18:12
  don't
• 18:12
  have
• 18:12
  to
• 18:12
  go
• 18:12
  through
• 18:13
  it.
• 18:13
  Yes,
• 18:13
  it
• 18:13
  is
• 18:13
  a
• 18:13
  military,
• 18:14
  it
• 18:14
  is
• 18:14
  also
• 18:14
  a
• 18:14
  group
• 18:15
  of
• 18:15
  explorers.
• 18:16
  Both
• 18:16
  can
• 18:17
  be
• 18:17
  true,
• 18:17
  both
• 18:18
  are,
• 18:18
  can
• 18:18
  be
• 18:18
  parts
• 18:19
  of
• 18:19
  Starfleet.
• 18:19
  That's
• 18:19
  why
• 18:20
  I
• 18:20
  really
• 18:20
  like
• 18:21
  the
• 18:21
  introduction
• 18:21
  of
• 18:21
  the
• 18:21
  Makos
• 18:22
  in
• 18:22
  Enterprise
• 18:23
  because
• 18:23
  it
• 18:23
  was
• 18:24
  one
• 18:24
  of
• 18:24
  those
• 18:24
  things.
• 18:24
  It's
• 18:24
  like,
• 18:24
  oh,
• 18:25
  it
• 18:25
  just
• 18:25
  makes
• 18:25
  sense.
• 18:27
  There
• 18:27
  was
• 18:27
  a
• 18:27
  video
• 18:28
  game
• 18:28
  for
• 18:28
  Voyager
• 18:29
  Elite
• 18:30
  Force
• 18:31
  where
• 18:31
  you
• 18:32
  had
• 18:32
  a
• 18:32
  group
• 18:32
  of
• 18:33
  call
• 18:33
  them
• 18:33
  the
• 18:33
  hazard
• 18:34
  team
• 18:34
  who
• 18:34
  was
• 18:34
  prepared
• 18:35
  for
• 18:35
  military
• 18:36
  stuff.
• 18:36
  That
• 18:37
  makes
• 18:37
  sense.
• 18:37
  Why
• 18:37
  hasn't
• 18:37
  this
• 18:38
  been
• 18:38
  here?
• 18:38
  Well,
• 18:38
  it's
• 18:38
  because
• 18:38
  some
• 18:39
  people
• 18:39
  are
• 18:39
  very
• 18:39
  afraid
• 18:39
  of
• 18:40
  putting
• 18:40
  that
• 18:40
  in
• 18:40
  Star
• 18:40
  Trek
• 18:41
  and
• 18:41
  I
• 18:41
  get
• 18:41
  it.
• 18:42
  Because
• 18:42
  you
• 18:43
  want
• 18:43
  this
• 18:43
  to
• 18:43
  be
• 18:43
  an
• 18:44
  optimistic
• 18:44
  show.
• 18:44
  There's
• 18:45
  some
• 18:45
  idealism
• 18:45
  that
• 18:46
  should
• 18:46
  be
• 18:46
  there
• 18:46
  about
• 18:47
  how,
• 18:47
  you
• 18:47
  know,
• 18:47
  where
• 18:47
  things
• 18:48
  should
• 18:48
  go.
• 18:48
  You
• 18:48
  know,
• 18:49
  Rod
• 18:49
  Barry
• 18:49
  had
• 18:49
  as
• 18:49
  many
• 18:50
  quirks
• 18:50
  and
• 18:51
  one
• 18:51
  of
• 18:51
  them
• 18:51
  is
• 18:51
  he
• 18:52
  imagined
• 18:52
  that
• 18:52
  humans
• 18:52
  had
• 18:53
  evolved
• 18:53
  beyond
• 18:54
  such
• 18:54
  silly
• 18:55
  things
• 18:55
  and
• 18:55
  the
• 18:56
  like.
• 18:56
  And
• 18:56
  you
• 18:56
  know
• 18:56
  what?
• 18:56
  The
• 18:57
  man
• 18:57
  gave
• 18:57
  us
• 18:57
  Star
• 18:57
  Trek.
• 18:58
  I
• 18:58
  will
• 18:58
  make
• 18:58
  fun
• 18:58
  of
• 18:58
  him,
• 18:58
  but
• 18:58
  I
• 18:58
  also
• 18:59
  praise
• 18:59
  him
• 18:59
  at
• 18:59
  the
• 18:59
  same
• 19:00
  time
• 19:00
  I,
• 19:00
  I
• 19:01
  think
• 19:01
  we're
• 19:01
  still
• 19:02
  wrestling
• 19:02
  with
• 19:02
  that
• 19:02
  concept
• 19:03
  and
• 19:03
  DS9
• 19:03
  is
• 19:03
  probably
• 19:04
  the
• 19:04
  best
• 19:04
  that
• 19:04
  we've
• 19:05
  done
• 19:05
  with
• 19:05
  like
• 19:06
  showing
• 19:07
  that
• 19:07
  there
• 19:08
  is
• 19:08
  a
• 19:08
  military
• 19:08
  here
• 19:08
  beside
• 19:09
  behind
• 19:09
  exploration.
• 19:11
  So
• 19:11
  like
• 19:11
  both
• 19:11
  can
• 19:12
  be
• 19:12
  true.
• 19:12
  Like
• 19:13
  have
• 19:14
  the
• 19:14
  desire
• 19:15
  to
• 19:15
  better
• 19:15
  yourself,
• 19:16
  have
• 19:16
  the
• 19:16
  desire
• 19:16
  to
• 19:17
  seek
• 19:17
  out
• 19:17
  new
• 19:17
  life
• 19:18
  and
• 19:18
  new
• 19:18
  civilizations.
• 19:19
  But
• 19:19
  also,
• 19:20
  oh,
• 19:20
  what
• 19:20
  if
• 19:20
  this
• 19:21
  new
• 19:21
  civilization
• 19:21
  happens
• 19:22
  to
• 19:22
  be
• 19:22
  the
• 19:22
  Romulan
• 19:22
  Star
• 19:23
  Empire?
• 19:24
  Well,
• 19:24
  we
• 19:24
  kind
• 19:25
  of
• 19:25
  need
• 19:25
  to
• 19:25
  make
• 19:25
  sure
• 19:25
  they
• 19:26
  don't
• 19:26
  take
• 19:26
  us
• 19:26
  over.
• 19:27
  So
• 19:27
  let's
• 19:27
  have
• 19:27
  a
• 19:27
  military
• 19:28
  in
• 19:28
  place
• 19:28
  while
• 19:29
  also
• 19:29
  explore.
• 19:31
  You
• 19:31
  know
• 19:31
  the.
• 19:32
  So
• 19:33
  Gene
• 19:33
  Roddenberry
• 19:35
  gave
• 19:35
  us
• 19:36
  the
• 19:37
  mirror
• 19:37
  universe
• 19:38
  in
• 19:38
  the
• 19:38
  original
• 19:39
  series.
• 19:39
  Right.
• 19:40
  And
• 19:40
  so
• 19:40
  the
• 19:40
  mirror
• 19:41
  universe
• 19:42
  features
• 19:42
  the
• 19:42
  Terran
• 19:43
  Empire.
• 19:44
  And
• 19:44
  I
• 19:44
  do
• 19:44
  think
• 19:44
  this
• 19:45
  in
• 19:45
  Gene's
• 19:46
  imagination
• 19:48
  really
• 19:48
  was
• 19:49
  the
• 19:51
  part
• 19:51
  of
• 19:51
  the
• 19:51
  answer
• 19:52
  to
• 19:52
  the
• 19:52
  question.
• 19:52
  So
• 19:52
  like
• 19:52
  if
• 19:53
  Starfleet
• 19:53
  doesn't
• 19:53
  exist
• 19:55
  with
• 19:57
  some
• 19:57
  of
• 19:57
  the
• 19:58
  virtues
• 19:58
  that
• 19:58
  Gene
• 19:59
  Roddenberry
• 19:59
  thought
• 20:00
  should
• 20:00
  be
• 20:00
  there.
• 20:01
  Yeah.
• 20:03
  In
• 20:03
  some
• 20:03
  ways
• 20:03
  I
• 20:03
  do
• 20:04
  think
• 20:04
  that
• 20:04
  the
• 20:04
  creation
• 20:05
  of
• 20:05
  Starfleet
• 20:05
  Academy,
• 20:06
  you
• 20:07
  know,
• 20:07
  later
• 20:07
  really
• 20:07
  is
• 20:08
  to
• 20:08
  say
• 20:08
  this
• 20:09
  is
• 20:09
  what,
• 20:10
  what's
• 20:10
  the
• 20:10
  school
• 20:10
  that
• 20:10
  Gene,
• 20:11
  if
• 20:11
  Gene
• 20:11
  Roddenberry
• 20:12
  created
• 20:12
  a
• 20:12
  school,
• 20:12
  what
• 20:12
  would
• 20:12
  it
• 20:13
  be
• 20:13
  like?
• 20:13
  Well,
• 20:13
  it's
• 20:14
  gonna
• 20:14
  be
• 20:14
  something
• 20:15
  like
• 20:15
  the
• 20:15
  Starfleet
• 20:16
  Academy.
• 20:16
  But
• 20:17
  what
• 20:17
  if
• 20:17
  you
• 20:17
  don't
• 20:18
  have
• 20:18
  that?
• 20:18
  What
• 20:18
  if
• 20:18
  you
• 20:18
  don't
• 20:19
  have
• 20:19
  these
• 20:19
  Roddenberry
• 20:20
  and
• 20:20
  ideals?
• 20:21
  You
• 20:22
  get
• 20:22
  the
• 20:22
  Terran
• 20:22
  Empire.
• 20:23
  And
• 20:23
  the
• 20:23
  Terran
• 20:24
  Empire
• 20:24
  again
• 20:25
  is,
• 20:25
  you
• 20:26
  know,
• 20:26
  they're
• 20:27
  more
• 20:27
  Earth
• 20:27
  centric
• 20:29
  and,
• 20:30
  and
• 20:31
  just
• 20:31
  militaristic
• 20:32
  like
• 20:32
  about
• 20:33
  conquest.
• 20:35
  And
• 20:37
  so
• 20:38
  in
• 20:38
  some
• 20:38
  ways
• 20:39
  I
• 20:39
  guess
• 20:39
  I'm
• 20:40
  agreeing
• 20:40
  with
• 20:40
  Gene.
• 20:42
  In
• 20:43
  a
• 20:43
  lot
• 20:43
  of
• 20:43
  ways
• 20:43
  I
• 20:43
  guess
• 20:43
  I'm
• 20:44
  agreeing
• 20:44
  with
• 20:44
  Gene
• 20:45
  in
• 20:45
  this
• 20:45
  in
• 20:46
  that
• 20:46
  I
• 20:46
  think
• 20:47
  that
• 20:47
  is
• 20:49
  a
• 20:49
  result
• 20:50
  of
• 20:52
  our
• 20:52
  lesser
• 20:52
  selves
• 20:56
  because
• 20:56
  we've
• 20:56
  seen
• 20:57
  it
• 20:57
  over
• 20:57
  and
• 20:57
  over
• 20:58
  again
• 20:59
  in
• 21:00
  Earth
• 21:00
  history
• 21:02
  where
• 21:03
  the
• 21:03
  desire
• 21:04
  for
• 21:05
  conquest
• 21:06
  and
• 21:06
  control
• 21:09
  as,
• 21:09
  as
• 21:10
  a
• 21:10
  reaction
• 21:10
  to
• 21:10
  fear
• 21:11
  is,
• 21:12
  is
• 21:12
  so
• 21:12
  high
• 21:13
  that
• 21:14
  you
• 21:14
  know,
• 21:14
  my
• 21:15
  gosh,
• 21:15
  let's
• 21:15
  just
• 21:15
  take
• 21:16
  over
• 21:16
  the
• 21:16
  world.
• 21:17
  That's
• 21:18
  the
• 21:19
  mentality
• 21:19
  we
• 21:19
  struggle
• 21:20
  with.
• 21:20
  No,
• 21:20
  I'm
• 21:20
  with
• 21:20
  you.
• 21:21
  Like
• 21:22
  if
• 21:23
  there
• 21:23
  is
• 21:23
  no
• 21:23
  Starfleet
• 21:24
  Academy
• 21:24
  in
• 21:24
  the
• 21:24
  way
• 21:25
  the
• 21:25
  sense
• 21:25
  of
• 21:25
  the
• 21:25
  Federation
• 21:26
  exists,
• 21:26
  we're
• 21:27
  working
• 21:27
  together,
• 21:27
  these
• 21:28
  different
• 21:28
  races,
• 21:28
  different
• 21:29
  planets,
• 21:29
  I.
• 21:30
  Something
• 21:30
  would
• 21:31
  replace
• 21:31
  it
• 21:31
  because
• 21:32
  you
• 21:32
  still
• 21:33
  need
• 21:33
  an
• 21:34
  Academy,
• 21:34
  you
• 21:34
  still
• 21:34
  need
• 21:34
  stuff.
• 21:35
  But
• 21:35
  it
• 21:35
  wouldn't
• 21:35
  be
• 21:35
  Starfleet
• 21:36
  and
• 21:36
  I
• 21:36
  don't
• 21:37
  think
• 21:37
  humanity
• 21:38
  would
• 21:38
  have
• 21:38
  gone
• 21:38
  full
• 21:38
  Terran
• 21:39
  Empire,
• 21:39
  but
• 21:40
  there
• 21:40
  still
• 21:40
  would
• 21:40
  have
• 21:40
  been
• 21:41
  aspects
• 21:41
  that
• 21:41
  would
• 21:41
  have
• 21:41
  been.
• 21:42
  Nope,
• 21:42
  that
• 21:43
  wouldn't
• 21:43
  be
• 21:43
  Star
• 21:43
  Trek.
• 21:44
  Humanity
• 21:45
  would
• 21:45
  they
• 21:46
  have
• 21:46
  conquered
• 21:47
  Ryza
• 21:48
  or
• 21:48
  Andor
• 21:49
  or
• 21:50
  Andoria
• 21:51
  or
• 21:51
  what
• 21:51
  have
• 21:51
  you
• 21:52
  could
• 21:52
  be
• 21:52
  and
• 21:53
  thinking
• 21:53
  that
• 21:53
  themselves
• 21:54
  wise.
• 21:55
  So
• 21:55
  what
• 21:56
  Starfleet
• 21:56
  Academy
• 21:57
  does
• 21:57
  is
• 21:57
  it
• 21:57
  helps
• 21:58
  build
• 21:58
  up
• 21:58
  the
• 21:58
  central
• 21:58
  premise.
• 21:59
  We
• 21:59
  are
• 21:59
  a
• 21:59
  federation.
• 22:00
  A
• 22:00
  federation
• 22:00
  is
• 22:01
  a
• 22:01
  group
• 22:01
  of
• 22:01
  people
• 22:01
  working
• 22:02
  together
• 22:02
  for
• 22:03
  common
• 22:03
  interests.
• 22:04
  And
• 22:05
  Academy
• 22:06
  is
• 22:06
  one
• 22:06
  of
• 22:06
  the
• 22:06
  best
• 22:06
  places
• 22:06
  to
• 22:06
  see
• 22:07
  that
• 22:07
  because
• 22:07
  you
• 22:07
  will
• 22:08
  literally
• 22:08
  see
• 22:08
  there's
• 22:09
  a
• 22:09
  human,
• 22:09
  there's
• 22:09
  an
• 22:09
  Andorian,
• 22:10
  there's
• 22:10
  a
• 22:10
  Telluride
• 22:12
  way
• 22:12
  in
• 22:12
  the
• 22:13
  future.
• 22:13
  I
• 22:13
  think
• 22:14
  it
• 22:14
  was
• 22:15
  a
• 22:15
  lower
• 22:15
  decks.
• 22:15
  I
• 22:15
  think
• 22:16
  we
• 22:16
  saw
• 22:16
  a
• 22:16
  Borg
• 22:17
  at
• 22:17
  one
• 22:17
  point
• 22:18
  in
• 22:18
  time.
• 22:18
  It's
• 22:19
  like,
• 22:19
  you
• 22:19
  know
• 22:19
  what,
• 22:19
  that's
• 22:20
  great
• 22:20
  because
• 22:21
  that's
• 22:21
  what
• 22:21
  it
• 22:21
  teaches
• 22:21
  us
• 22:22
  is
• 22:22
  more
• 22:22
  cosmopolitan
• 22:23
  in
• 22:23
  that
• 22:23
  sense
• 22:24
  of
• 22:24
  everyone
• 22:25
  coming
• 22:25
  together.
• 22:25
  Because
• 22:26
  we've
• 22:26
  met
• 22:26
  each
• 22:26
  other
• 22:26
  now
• 22:27
  we
• 22:27
  need
• 22:27
  to
• 22:27
  like,
• 22:27
  what
• 22:27
  do
• 22:28
  we
• 22:28
  do
• 22:28
  with
• 22:28
  that?
• 22:28
  Do
• 22:28
  we
• 22:28
  just
• 22:29
  go
• 22:29
  our
• 22:29
  separate
• 22:30
  ways
• 22:30
  or
• 22:30
  do
• 22:30
  we
• 22:30
  actually
• 22:30
  interact
• 22:31
  with
• 22:31
  one
• 22:31
  another,
• 22:31
  learn
• 22:31
  about
• 22:32
  each
• 22:32
  other?
• 22:32
  And
• 22:32
  I
• 22:33
  think
• 22:33
  that's
• 22:33
  what
• 22:33
  Starfleet
• 22:33
  Academy
• 22:34
  does
• 22:34
  really
• 22:34
  well.
• 22:34
  So
• 22:35
  moving
• 22:35
  on
• 22:35
  from
• 22:35
  there,
• 22:36
  another
• 22:36
  question
• 22:36
  we've
• 22:37
  been
• 22:37
  asking
• 22:37
  is
• 22:37
  like,
• 22:38
  would
• 22:38
  we
• 22:38
  rather
• 22:38
  be
• 22:38
  the
• 22:39
  mentor
• 22:39
  or
• 22:39
  the
• 22:40
  influencer
• 22:40
  in
• 22:40
  this
• 22:41
  series?
• 22:41
  So
• 22:41
  idea
• 22:42
  being,
• 22:42
  would
• 22:42
  rather
• 22:43
  be
• 22:43
  a
• 22:43
  teacher
• 22:44
  professor
• 22:45
  at
• 22:45
  Starfleet
• 22:45
  Academy
• 22:46
  or
• 22:46
  rather
• 22:46
  be
• 22:46
  the
• 22:46
  person
• 22:47
  learning
• 22:47
  in
• 22:47
  Starfleet
• 22:48
  Academy?
• 22:50
  My,
• 22:51
  my,
• 22:52
  my.
• 22:52
  I
• 22:53
  am.
• 22:55
  You
• 22:55
  know,
• 22:55
  this
• 22:55
  is
• 22:55
  part
• 22:56
  a,
• 22:57
  a
• 22:57
  phase
• 22:58
  of
• 22:58
  life
• 22:59
  question
• 22:59
  because,
• 23:02
  you
• 23:02
  know,
• 23:02
  I,
• 23:03
  at
• 23:04
  different
• 23:04
  points
• 23:04
  in
• 23:05
  life
• 23:05
  I'd,
• 23:05
  well,
• 23:05
  certainly
• 23:06
  would
• 23:06
  have
• 23:06
  loved
• 23:07
  to
• 23:07
  have
• 23:07
  been
• 23:08
  a
• 23:09
  cadet.
• 23:10
  You
• 23:10
  know,
• 23:11
  at
• 23:11
  other
• 23:11
  points
• 23:12
  I
• 23:12
  would
• 23:12
  have
• 23:15
  enjoyed
• 23:15
  being
• 23:16
  the
• 23:16
  gardener.
• 23:17
  And,
• 23:18
  and
• 23:19
  you
• 23:19
  know,
• 23:19
  at
• 23:20
  this
• 23:20
  point
• 23:22
  I
• 23:22
  do,
• 23:23
  I
• 23:23
  think
• 23:23
  I'm
• 23:23
  at
• 23:23
  the,
• 23:24
  at
• 23:24
  the,
• 23:25
  I'm.
• 23:26
  I'd
• 23:26
  like
• 23:26
  to
• 23:26
  be
• 23:26
  a
• 23:27
  professor
• 23:28
  of
• 23:28
  the
• 23:29
  Academy,
• 23:31
  but
• 23:31
  I
• 23:32
  could,
• 23:32
  but
• 23:33
  I
• 23:33
  could
• 23:33
  see
• 23:33
  myself
• 23:34
  being
• 23:34
  happy
• 23:35
  being
• 23:35
  a
• 23:35
  gardener,
• 23:37
  you
• 23:37
  know,
• 23:38
  so
• 23:39
  I'm
• 23:39
  at
• 23:39
  this,
• 23:39
  I'm
• 23:40
  at
• 23:40
  this,
• 23:41
  maybe
• 23:41
  this
• 23:42
  edge
• 23:42
  right
• 23:43
  now.
• 23:43
  I
• 23:43
  think
• 23:43
  it
• 23:43
  really
• 23:44
  would
• 23:44
  be
• 23:44
  fun
• 23:44
  to
• 23:45
  be
• 23:46
  a
• 23:46
  part
• 23:46
  of
• 23:46
  that
• 23:48
  active.
• 23:49
  Formation
• 23:50
  and
• 23:50
  we'll
• 23:50
  get
• 23:51
  to
• 23:51
  the
• 23:51
  gardener
• 23:51
  in
• 23:51
  a
• 23:51
  little
• 23:51
  bit.
• 23:52
  Yeah,
• 23:53
  yeah.
• 23:54
  So
• 23:55
  one
• 23:55
  thing
• 23:55
  I've
• 23:56
  learned
• 23:56
  with
• 23:57
  age
• 23:57
  in
• 23:57
  my
• 23:58
  time
• 23:58
  in
• 23:58
  seminary
• 23:58
  is
• 23:59
  that
• 23:59
  I
• 23:59
  probably
• 24:00
  said
• 24:00
  this
• 24:00
  before.
• 24:01
  It
• 24:01
  bears
• 24:02
  repeating.
• 24:02
  I
• 24:03
  love
• 24:03
  learning.
• 24:04
  I
• 24:04
  hate
• 24:05
  being
• 24:05
  a
• 24:05
  student.
• 24:11
  Yeah.
• 24:11
  You
• 24:12
  know.
• 24:12
  Yeah,
• 24:13
  yeah.
• 24:13
  It's
• 24:14
  like
• 24:14
  that
• 24:15
  there's
• 24:15
  a
• 24:15
  structure,
• 24:16
  a
• 24:16
  rigidity
• 24:17
  that's
• 24:17
  supposed
• 24:17
  to
• 24:17
  be
• 24:17
  inherent
• 24:18
  in
• 24:18
  becoming
• 24:18
  a
• 24:19
  student.
• 24:19
  Like
• 24:19
  a
• 24:19
  professor
• 24:20
  is
• 24:20
  the
• 24:20
  one
• 24:20
  who
• 24:20
  sets
• 24:20
  where
• 24:21
  you're
• 24:21
  supposed
• 24:21
  to,
• 24:22
  what
• 24:22
  you're
• 24:22
  supposed
• 24:22
  to
• 24:23
  learn,
• 24:23
  how
• 24:23
  you're
• 24:23
  supposed
• 24:23
  to
• 24:23
  learn
• 24:23
  it,
• 24:24
  what
• 24:24
  book
• 24:24
  you're
• 24:24
  supposed
• 24:24
  to
• 24:24
  read.
• 24:24
  And
• 24:25
  there's
• 24:25
  nothing
• 24:25
  wrong
• 24:25
  with
• 24:25
  that.
• 24:25
  And
• 24:25
  that's
• 24:26
  why
• 24:26
  I'd
• 24:26
  prefer
• 24:26
  to
• 24:26
  be
• 24:26
  the
• 24:26
  professor,
• 24:28
  all
• 24:28
  things
• 24:28
  considered.
• 24:29
  But
• 24:29
  I
• 24:30
  have
• 24:30
  learned
• 24:30
  over
• 24:31
  time
• 24:31
  that
• 24:32
  I'm
• 24:32
  just
• 24:32
  rebellious
• 24:33
  when
• 24:33
  it
• 24:33
  comes
• 24:34
  to
• 24:34
  someone
• 24:34
  else
• 24:34
  telling
• 24:35
  me
• 24:35
  to
• 24:35
  do
• 24:35
  something
• 24:36
  and
• 24:36
  that's
• 24:37
  something
• 24:37
  I
• 24:37
  have
• 24:37
  to
• 24:38
  kill
• 24:38
  inside
• 24:38
  myself
• 24:38
  daily.
• 24:39
  But
• 24:39
  it'd
• 24:39
  be
• 24:39
  a
• 24:40
  lot
• 24:40
  easier
• 24:40
  not
• 24:40
  to
• 24:40
  do
• 24:40
  that
• 24:40
  if
• 24:40
  I
• 24:41
  wasn't
• 24:41
  the
• 24:41
  student.
• 24:42
  Yeah,
• 24:42
  right,
• 24:43
  right.
• 24:43
  Because
• 24:44
  you
• 24:44
  get
• 24:44
  to
• 24:44
  learn.
• 24:44
  You
• 24:44
  still
• 24:45
  get
• 24:45
  to
• 24:45
  learn
• 24:46
  if
• 24:46
  you're
• 24:46
  in
• 24:46
  the.
• 24:47
  If
• 24:47
  you're
• 24:47
  a
• 24:47
  professor,
• 24:48
  you
• 24:48
  know,
• 24:48
  you've
• 24:48
  got
• 24:48
  to
• 24:49
  be
• 24:49
  actively
• 24:49
  an
• 24:49
  active,
• 24:50
  lifelong
• 24:51
  learner.
• 24:53
  But
• 24:54
  I
• 24:54
  choose
• 24:54
  what
• 24:54
  I
• 24:55
  want
• 24:55
  to
• 24:55
  do.
• 24:56
  That's
• 24:56
  the
• 24:56
  main
• 24:57
  difference.
• 24:57
  No
• 24:58
  one
• 24:58
  told
• 24:58
  me
• 24:58
  you
• 24:58
  have
• 24:58
  to
• 24:59
  study
• 24:59
  this.
• 25:00
  So,
• 25:00
  like.
• 25:01
  So,
• 25:01
  you
• 25:01
  know,
• 25:01
  I'd
• 25:02
  love
• 25:02
  to
• 25:02
  be
• 25:02
  like,
• 25:02
  maybe
• 25:03
  an
• 25:03
  historian
• 25:03
  or
• 25:03
  religious
• 25:04
  studies
• 25:04
  or
• 25:04
  something
• 25:05
  like
• 25:05
  that
• 25:05
  at
• 25:05
  Starfleet
• 25:05
  Academy
• 25:06
  because,
• 25:06
  you
• 25:06
  know,
• 25:06
  that's.
• 25:07
  I
• 25:07
  don't
• 25:07
  really
• 25:07
  focus
• 25:07
  too
• 25:08
  much
• 25:08
  on
• 25:08
  it.
• 25:08
  But
• 25:08
  like,
• 25:08
  you
• 25:08
  have
• 25:09
  all
• 25:09
  these
• 25:09
  different
• 25:09
  alien
• 25:09
  races.
• 25:10
  They've
• 25:10
  got
• 25:10
  to
• 25:11
  have
• 25:11
  religions
• 25:11
  and
• 25:11
  cultures
• 25:12
  that,
• 25:12
  like,
• 25:13
  they're
• 25:13
  not
• 25:13
  all
• 25:13
  Monol.
• 25:14
  List.
• 25:14
  They're
• 25:14
  not
• 25:14
  just
• 25:14
  a
• 25:14
  planet
• 25:15
  of
• 25:15
  hats.
• 25:15
  Like,
• 25:15
  like,
• 25:16
  what
• 25:16
  is.
• 25:16
  What
• 25:16
  is
• 25:17
  Vulcan
• 25:19
  spirituality
• 25:19
  compared
• 25:20
  to
• 25:21
  Klingon
• 25:22
  or
• 25:22
  what
• 25:22
  have
• 25:22
  you.
• 25:23
  Like,
• 25:23
  that'd
• 25:23
  be
• 25:24
  so
• 25:24
  much
• 25:24
  fun
• 25:24
  to
• 25:25
  learn.
• 25:25
  Like,
• 25:25
  I'd
• 25:26
  study
• 25:26
  that
• 25:26
  all
• 25:26
  day
• 25:27
  long,
• 25:27
  obviously,
• 25:28
  you
• 25:28
  know,
• 25:28
  holding
• 25:28
  still
• 25:29
  to
• 25:29
  my
• 25:29
  faith
• 25:29
  and
• 25:29
  then
• 25:29
  like,
• 25:29
  comparing,
• 25:30
  contrasting.
• 25:31
  But
• 25:31
  like.
• 25:31
  Yeah,
• 25:32
  to
• 25:32
  teach
• 25:32
  someone
• 25:32
  else
• 25:32
  about,
• 25:33
  you
• 25:33
  know,
• 25:33
  this
• 25:33
  is
• 25:33
  how
• 25:33
  they
• 25:33
  think,
• 25:34
  this
• 25:34
  is
• 25:34
  why
• 25:34
  they
• 25:34
  think
• 25:34
  the
• 25:34
  way
• 25:35
  they
• 25:35
  do,
• 25:35
  though.
• 25:35
  That'd
• 25:35
  be
• 25:35
  so
• 25:36
  much
• 25:36
  fun.
• 25:36
  Oh,
• 25:36
  man.
• 25:37
  100%.
• 25:39
  I'm
• 25:39
  with
• 25:39
  you.
• 25:41
  All
• 25:41
  right.
• 25:42
  All
• 25:42
  right.
• 25:42
  So
• 25:43
  this
• 25:43
  is
• 25:43
  kind
• 25:44
  of
• 25:44
  a
• 25:44
  broader
• 25:44
  one.
• 25:44
  So
• 25:44
  like,
• 25:45
  we
• 25:45
  mentioned
• 25:46
  some
• 25:46
  stuff
• 25:46
  with
• 25:46
  Picard
• 25:47
  earlier,
• 25:47
  but
• 25:47
  like,
• 25:47
  main
• 25:48
  characters,
• 25:48
  time
• 25:48
  in
• 25:49
  the
• 25:49
  academies,
• 25:49
  you
• 25:50
  know,
• 25:50
  Kirk
• 25:50
  and
• 25:50
  beyond.
• 25:51
  Like
• 25:51
  what.
• 25:52
  Anything
• 25:52
  that
• 25:52
  kind
• 25:53
  of
• 25:53
  sticks
• 25:53
  out
• 25:53
  to
• 25:53
  you,
• 25:54
  how
• 25:54
  Starfleet
• 25:55
  helped
• 25:55
  shape
• 25:55
  them
• 25:55
  and
• 25:55
  who
• 25:55
  they
• 25:56
  are.
• 25:56
  Academy.
• 25:57
  Yeah.
• 25:57
  I
• 25:57
  mean,
• 25:57
  yeah,
• 25:58
  certainly
• 25:58
  Picard
• 25:59
  is.
• 25:59
  Is
• 26:00
  the.
• 26:00
  The
• 26:01
  strongest
• 26:01
  one
• 26:03
  in
• 26:03
  my
• 26:04
  thinking.
• 26:04
  I
• 26:04
  mean,
• 26:04
  you
• 26:05
  really.
• 26:06
  I
• 26:06
  jump
• 26:07
  from
• 26:10
  Picard
• 26:11
  almost
• 26:11
  to
• 26:12
  some
• 26:12
  of
• 26:12
  these
• 26:14
  newer
• 26:16
  iterations
• 26:18
  in
• 26:19
  recent
• 26:19
  years
• 26:20
  of
• 26:20
  Star
• 26:21
  Trek
• 26:21
  where
• 26:22
  they
• 26:22
  do
• 26:22
  spend
• 26:23
  some
• 26:23
  of
• 26:24
  the
• 26:24
  most
• 26:24
  time
• 26:26
  really
• 26:30
  talking
• 26:31
  about
• 26:31
  Starfleet's
• 26:32
  influence.
• 26:32
  But
• 26:32
  I
• 26:33
  should
• 26:33
  pause
• 26:33
  and
• 26:33
  say.
• 26:34
  And
• 26:34
  I
• 26:34
  know
• 26:35
  we're
• 26:35
  going
• 26:35
  to.
• 26:35
  I
• 26:36
  think
• 26:36
  we're
• 26:36
  going
• 26:36
  to
• 26:36
  talk
• 26:36
  about
• 26:36
  this.
• 26:37
  But
• 26:37
  you
• 26:37
  know,
• 26:38
  it.
• 26:39
  Through
• 26:40
  the
• 26:40
  movies,
• 26:41
  you
• 26:41
  do
• 26:42
  get
• 26:42
  this
• 26:42
  sense
• 26:43
  of
• 26:43
  Jim
• 26:44
  Kirk
• 26:44
  and
• 26:45
  at
• 26:45
  least
• 26:46
  a
• 26:46
  moment
• 26:47
  in
• 26:48
  his
• 26:49
  Starfleet
• 26:49
  formation.
• 26:50
  Yeah,
• 26:51
  that
• 26:52
  just.
• 26:53
  So
• 26:54
  I
• 26:54
  won't.
• 26:54
  We'll.
• 26:54
  We'll
• 26:54
  pause.
• 26:56
  Kobayashi
• 26:57
  Maru
• 26:58
  test
• 26:59
  is.
• 26:59
  Is.
• 27:01
  And
• 27:01
  how
• 27:01
  it.
• 27:02
  It
• 27:02
  formed
• 27:03
  his
• 27:03
  character.
• 27:03
  And
• 27:03
  so
• 27:04
  you
• 27:04
  start
• 27:04
  to.
• 27:05
  Once
• 27:06
  you
• 27:06
  know
• 27:06
  about
• 27:06
  the
• 27:06
  Kobayashi
• 27:07
  Maru.
• 27:07
  Then
• 27:08
  you
• 27:08
  kind
• 27:08
  of
• 27:08
  look
• 27:08
  back
• 27:09
  across
• 27:09
  the
• 27:09
  original
• 27:10
  series
• 27:10
  and
• 27:10
  you're
• 27:10
  like,
• 27:10
  okay,
• 27:11
  I
• 27:11
  get,
• 27:11
  I
• 27:12
  get
• 27:12
  this
• 27:12
  guy
• 27:12
  even
• 27:13
  more.
• 27:15
  And
• 27:16
  this,
• 27:17
  this
• 27:17
  lack
• 27:17
  of
• 27:18
  belief
• 27:19
  in
• 27:19
  no
• 27:20
  win
• 27:20
  scenarios.
• 27:21
  Kirk
• 27:22
  is
• 27:22
  this
• 27:22
  person
• 27:23
  who.
• 27:26
  So
• 27:26
  if
• 27:27
  the,
• 27:27
  if
• 27:27
  the
• 27:27
  next
• 27:28
  generation,
• 27:29
  the
• 27:29
  way
• 27:29
  the
• 27:29
  Enterprise
• 27:30
  moves
• 27:31
  through
• 27:31
  the
• 27:31
  universe
• 27:32
  through
• 27:34
  their
• 27:35
  moments
• 27:35
  of
• 27:37
  serendipity,
• 27:37
  but
• 27:38
  just
• 27:38
  moments
• 27:38
  of
• 27:38
  smarts,
• 27:39
  I
• 27:39
  mean,
• 27:39
  these
• 27:39
  folks
• 27:39
  are,
• 27:40
  they're,
• 27:40
  they're
• 27:40
  smart,
• 27:42
  they
• 27:43
  stick
• 27:43
  by
• 27:44
  their
• 27:44
  principles
• 27:45
  and
• 27:45
  that
• 27:45
  gets
• 27:46
  them
• 27:46
  through.
• 27:47
  Yeah,
• 27:47
  in
• 27:48
  the
• 27:48
  original
• 27:48
  series,
• 27:51
  Kirk
• 27:51
  is
• 27:52
  like
• 27:52
  bending
• 27:53
  the
• 27:53
  universe
• 27:54
  to
• 27:54
  his
• 27:54
  will.
• 27:55
  I
• 27:55
  mean,
• 27:55
  that
• 27:55
  is
• 27:59
  seemingly
• 28:01
  how
• 28:01
  you
• 28:01
  get
• 28:02
  through
• 28:02
  these
• 28:02
  scrapes
• 28:04
  and.
• 28:06
  But
• 28:07
  we
• 28:07
  see
• 28:07
  that
• 28:08
  part
• 28:08
  of,
• 28:09
  there's
• 28:09
  just
• 28:09
  something
• 28:10
  that
• 28:10
  was
• 28:11
  part
• 28:11
  of
• 28:11
  him
• 28:12
  and
• 28:13
  you
• 28:13
  see
• 28:13
  how
• 28:13
  he
• 28:14
  engages
• 28:15
  Starfleet
• 28:15
  Academy,
• 28:17
  still
• 28:18
  bending
• 28:18
  the
• 28:18
  rules
• 28:19
  to
• 28:20
  himself.
• 28:21
  So,
• 28:21
  yeah,
• 28:21
  something
• 28:22
  about
• 28:22
  Kirk
• 28:22
  in,
• 28:23
  in
• 28:23
  a,
• 28:23
  in
• 28:23
  a
• 28:23
  different
• 28:24
  kind
• 28:24
  of
• 28:24
  way
• 28:24
  as
• 28:25
  I,
• 28:25
  that
• 28:25
  I
• 28:25
  think
• 28:26
  about
• 28:26
  Picard
• 28:27
  when
• 28:27
  I
• 28:27
  think
• 28:27
  about
• 28:28
  Starfleet
• 28:30
  Academy.
• 28:31
  But
• 28:31
  what
• 28:31
  about
• 28:31
  you?
• 28:31
  What
• 28:32
  are
• 28:32
  some,
• 28:32
  who
• 28:32
  are
• 28:32
  some
• 28:32
  of
• 28:32
  the
• 28:33
  people
• 28:33
  you
• 28:33
  think
• 28:34
  in
• 28:34
  mind?
• 28:34
  Like,
• 28:35
  obviously
• 28:35
  Starfleet
• 28:36
  Academy
• 28:36
  was
• 28:36
  like,
• 28:37
  we're
• 28:37
  building
• 28:37
  up
• 28:37
  on
• 28:37
  the
• 28:37
  idea
• 28:38
  over
• 28:38
  time.
• 28:38
  There
• 28:38
  wasn't
• 28:39
  the
• 28:39
  serialization
• 28:40
  of
• 28:40
  the
• 28:40
  original
• 28:40
  series.
• 28:40
  Like,
• 28:41
  there
• 28:41
  was
• 28:41
  no,
• 28:41
  like,
• 28:41
  set
• 28:42
  plan.
• 28:42
  There
• 28:42
  was
• 28:42
  no,
• 28:43
  like,
• 28:43
  everything
• 28:44
  had
• 28:44
  to.
• 28:44
  Because
• 28:44
  that's
• 28:45
  how
• 28:45
  viewership
• 28:45
  worked
• 28:46
  back
• 28:46
  in
• 28:46
  the
• 28:46
  day.
• 28:46
  Like
• 28:47
  you,
• 28:47
  you
• 28:47
  couldn't
• 28:48
  expect
• 28:48
  your
• 28:48
  audience
• 28:48
  to
• 28:48
  always
• 28:49
  know
• 28:49
  what
• 28:49
  happened
• 28:49
  last
• 28:50
  episode.
• 28:50
  So
• 28:50
  you
• 28:50
  had
• 28:50
  to
• 28:50
  write
• 28:51
  almost
• 28:51
  like
• 28:51
  every
• 28:51
  episode
• 28:52
  was
• 28:52
  a
• 28:52
  new
• 28:52
  one.
• 28:54
  But
• 28:54
  with
• 28:54
  Kirk's
• 28:54
  decision
• 28:55
  making,
• 28:55
  like,
• 28:55
  in
• 28:56
  hindsight
• 28:56
  you
• 28:56
  could
• 28:56
  retcon
• 28:57
  the
• 28:57
  idea
• 28:57
  of,
• 28:57
  well,
• 28:58
  that's
• 28:58
  why
• 28:58
  he
• 28:58
  does
• 28:58
  what
• 28:58
  he
• 28:59
  does,
• 28:59
  because
• 29:00
  he
• 29:00
  believes
• 29:00
  so
• 29:01
  much
• 29:01
  in
• 29:01
  the
• 29:01
  ideals
• 29:01
  of
• 29:02
  the
• 29:02
  Federation
• 29:02
  that
• 29:02
  he
• 29:02
  learned
• 29:03
  during
• 29:03
  his
• 29:03
  time
• 29:03
  in
• 29:03
  the
• 29:04
  Academy
• 29:05
  to
• 29:05
  protect
• 29:06
  these
• 29:06
  things
• 29:06
  and
• 29:07
  yeah,
• 29:07
  bending
• 29:07
  the
• 29:07
  rules.
• 29:08
  He's
• 29:08
  a
• 29:08
  maverick.
• 29:09
  That's
• 29:09
  just
• 29:09
  who
• 29:09
  he
• 29:09
  is.
• 29:10
  But
• 29:10
  he
• 29:10
  wasn't
• 29:11
  a
• 29:11
  maverick
• 29:11
  just
• 29:11
  to
• 29:11
  be
• 29:11
  a
• 29:12
  maverick.
• 29:12
  He
• 29:12
  was
• 29:12
  a
• 29:12
  maverick
• 29:13
  because
• 29:13
  sometimes
• 29:13
  rules
• 29:13
  got
• 29:14
  in
• 29:14
  the
• 29:14
  way
• 29:14
  of
• 29:14
  protecting
• 29:14
  people.
• 29:15
  They
• 29:15
  got
• 29:15
  in
• 29:16
  the
• 29:16
  way
• 29:16
  of
• 29:16
  doing
• 29:16
  the
• 29:16
  right
• 29:16
  thing.
• 29:17
  Right.
• 29:18
  And
• 29:18
  protecting
• 29:19
  his
• 29:19
  people.
• 29:19
  And
• 29:19
  those
• 29:20
  are
• 29:20
  core
• 29:20
  values
• 29:20
  he
• 29:21
  would
• 29:21
  have
• 29:21
  been
• 29:21
  taught
• 29:22
  in
• 29:22
  Starfleet
• 29:22
  Academy
• 29:23
  and
• 29:24
  help
• 29:24
  make
• 29:24
  him
• 29:24
  who
• 29:24
  he
• 29:24
  was.
• 29:25
  I'm
• 29:26
  trying
• 29:26
  to
• 29:26
  think
• 29:26
  of
• 29:26
  other
• 29:26
  things.
• 29:26
  You
• 29:27
  know,
• 29:27
  Janeway's
• 29:28
  time
• 29:28
  in
• 29:28
  the
• 29:28
  Academy,
• 29:29
  she
• 29:29
  kind
• 29:29
  of
• 29:29
  mentions
• 29:29
  talking
• 29:30
  about
• 29:30
  another
• 29:30
  character
• 29:30
  we're
• 29:31
  about
• 29:31
  to
• 29:31
  get
• 29:31
  to.
• 29:32
  Like,
• 29:33
  learning
• 29:34
  under
• 29:34
  his
• 29:34
  tutelage
• 29:35
  how
• 29:35
  to
• 29:35
  care
• 29:36
  for
• 29:36
  things
• 29:37
  is
• 29:37
  very
• 29:37
  huge
• 29:38
  for
• 29:38
  her.
• 29:38
  It's
• 29:39
  a
• 29:39
  nice
• 29:39
  humanizing
• 29:39
  moment
• 29:40
  for
• 29:40
  Janeway.
• 29:42
  Cisco
• 29:42
  talks
• 29:42
  about
• 29:43
  a
• 29:43
  time
• 29:43
  where
• 29:43
  he
• 29:44
  was
• 29:44
  like,
• 29:45
  bullied
• 29:45
  by
• 29:45
  a
• 29:46
  Vulcan.
• 29:46
  I
• 29:46
  think
• 29:46
  it
• 29:47
  was
• 29:47
  like
• 29:47
  Saval
• 29:47
  or
• 29:47
  something
• 29:48
  like
• 29:48
  that.
• 29:49
  He
• 29:49
  was
• 29:49
  in
• 29:49
  a
• 29:49
  wrestling
• 29:50
  club
• 29:50
  there,
• 29:51
  which,
• 29:51
  like,
• 29:51
  hey,
• 29:51
  they
• 29:52
  have
• 29:52
  Clubs,
• 29:52
  you
• 29:52
  know,
• 29:52
  this
• 29:52
  not
• 29:53
  just
• 29:53
  a
• 29:53
  school,
• 29:53
  like
• 29:54
  naturally
• 29:54
  schools
• 29:54
  would
• 29:55
  have
• 29:55
  stuff
• 29:55
  like
• 29:55
  that.
• 29:56
  That
• 29:57
  helps
• 29:57
  humanize
• 29:57
  him,
• 29:59
  honestly.
• 29:59
  Kind
• 29:59
  of
• 29:59
  humanizes
• 30:00
  the
• 30:00
  Vulcan
• 30:00
  too.
• 30:01
  In
• 30:01
  that
• 30:01
  episode
• 30:01
  with
• 30:01
  the
• 30:01
  baseball
• 30:02
  one
• 30:02
  that
• 30:02
  they
• 30:02
  do.
• 30:02
  It's
• 30:03
  a
• 30:03
  really
• 30:03
  fun
• 30:03
  one.
• 30:04
  In
• 30:04
  the
• 30:04
  middle
• 30:04
  of
• 30:04
  a
• 30:05
  war,
• 30:05
  we
• 30:05
  can
• 30:05
  have
• 30:05
  a
• 30:05
  nice
• 30:05
  fun
• 30:06
  holographic
• 30:06
  baseball
• 30:06
  game.
• 30:08
  And
• 30:08
  I
• 30:09
  want
• 30:09
  it
• 30:09
  does
• 30:10
  these
• 30:10
  small
• 30:10
  moments.
• 30:11
  We
• 30:11
  don't
• 30:11
  really
• 30:11
  get
• 30:11
  too
• 30:11
  many
• 30:12
  scenes
• 30:12
  inside
• 30:12
  of
• 30:13
  Starfleet
• 30:13
  Academy
• 30:13
  outside
• 30:14
  of
• 30:14
  Wrath
• 30:14
  of
• 30:14
  Khan
• 30:14
  really
• 30:15
  before
• 30:15
  we
• 30:15
  get
• 30:16
  to
• 30:16
  new,
• 30:16
  newer
• 30:16
  series.
• 30:17
  But
• 30:18
  what
• 30:18
  we
• 30:18
  see
• 30:18
  is
• 30:18
  the
• 30:18
  after
• 30:19
  effects
• 30:19
  of
• 30:19
  their
• 30:19
  time.
• 30:20
  And
• 30:21
  they
• 30:21
  are
• 30:21
  who
• 30:22
  they
• 30:22
  are
• 30:22
  because
• 30:22
  they
• 30:22
  were
• 30:22
  taught
• 30:23
  this
• 30:23
  way,
• 30:23
  because
• 30:23
  they
• 30:23
  learned
• 30:24
  this
• 30:24
  way,
• 30:24
  because
• 30:24
  they
• 30:24
  challenged
• 30:25
  rules
• 30:25
  that
• 30:25
  were
• 30:25
  placed
• 30:26
  by
• 30:26
  the
• 30:27
  Academy
• 30:27
  and
• 30:27
  the
• 30:27
  like.
• 30:28
  Yeah.
• 30:28
  And
• 30:28
  we
• 30:28
  wouldn't
• 30:29
  have
• 30:29
  the
• 30:29
  series
• 30:29
  without
• 30:29
  that.
• 30:30
  Yeah,
• 30:30
  100%.
• 30:31
  I
• 30:32
  mean,
• 30:32
  even
• 30:33
  as
• 30:33
  you
• 30:33
  move
• 30:33
  forward
• 30:34
  and
• 30:34
  you
• 30:34
  think
• 30:34
  about
• 30:35
  Pike,
• 30:36
  Christopher
• 30:37
  pike
• 30:37
  and
• 30:39
  yeah,
• 30:40
  this,
• 30:42
  it
• 30:42
  is
• 30:43
  forming
• 30:44
  the
• 30:44
  people
• 30:46
  to
• 30:46
  be
• 30:47
  moral
• 30:47
  beings
• 30:48
  moving
• 30:48
  through
• 30:49
  the
• 30:49
  universe.
• 30:49
  And
• 30:50
  that
• 30:50
  is
• 30:50
  the
• 30:51
  heart
• 30:51
  of
• 30:51
  Starfleet.
• 30:52
  When
• 30:52
  the
• 30:52
  Starfleet
• 30:53
  loses
• 30:53
  that,
• 30:54
  it
• 30:54
  loses
• 30:54
  itself.
• 30:56
  Yeah,
• 30:56
  yeah.
• 30:57
  Speaking
• 30:57
  of
• 30:57
  a
• 30:58
  moral
• 30:58
  being,
• 30:59
  like
• 30:59
  not
• 30:59
  really
• 31:00
  an
• 31:00
  unsung
• 31:00
  hero
• 31:01
  if
• 31:01
  you're
• 31:01
  a
• 31:01
  fan,
• 31:01
  like
• 31:01
  if
• 31:02
  you
• 31:02
  really
• 31:02
  know,
• 31:02
  you
• 31:02
  know,
• 31:02
  but
• 31:03
  like
• 31:03
  Boothby,.
• 32:53
  My
• 32:54
  boy
• 32:54
  Boothby.
• 32:55
  Someone
• 32:56
  from
• 32:56
  Starfleet
• 32:56
  Academy.
• 32:57
  Not
• 32:57
  a
• 32:57
  professor,
• 32:58
  but
• 32:58
  the
• 32:58
  gardener.
• 32:59
  Take
• 32:59
  it
• 32:59
  away,
• 32:59
  Justin
• 33:00
  Booth
• 33:00
  B
• 33:01
  is.
• 33:01
  Like
• 33:01
  the
• 33:01
  freaking
• 33:02
  Dumbledore
• 33:03
  of
• 33:03
  Star
• 33:03
  Trek.
• 33:06
  And
• 33:07
  he
• 33:07
  doesn't
• 33:07
  have
• 33:07
  to
• 33:07
  be
• 33:07
  headmaster.
• 33:08
  So
• 33:08
  this
• 33:09
  is.
• 33:09
  No,
• 33:09
  this
• 33:10
  is
• 33:10
  the
• 33:11
  why
• 33:12
  I,
• 33:14
  you
• 33:14
  know,
• 33:15
  I
• 33:15
  say
• 33:15
  like
• 33:15
  want
• 33:16
  to
• 33:16
  be
• 33:16
  a
• 33:16
  professor,
• 33:16
  but
• 33:17
  could
• 33:17
  see
• 33:17
  myself
• 33:17
  as
• 33:18
  the
• 33:18
  gardener.
• 33:18
  Like,
• 33:18
  you
• 33:18
  know,
• 33:19
  at
• 33:19
  a
• 33:19
  certain
• 33:19
  point,
• 33:22
  Booth
• 33:22
  be.
• 33:23
  Represents
• 33:23
  to
• 33:24
  me
• 33:25
  humility
• 33:28
  and
• 33:30
  how
• 33:31
  this
• 33:31
  humble
• 33:32
  person
• 33:33
  who
• 33:33
  was
• 33:33
  never
• 33:34
  in
• 33:35
  charge
• 33:36
  still
• 33:37
  loomed
• 33:38
  largest
• 33:40
  in
• 33:40
  the
• 33:41
  lives
• 33:42
  of
• 33:42
  some
• 33:43
  of
• 33:43
  the
• 33:43
  characters
• 33:44
  that
• 33:44
  we
• 33:44
  respect
• 33:45
  the
• 33:45
  most
• 33:46
  in
• 33:47
  Star
• 33:47
  Trek.
• 33:49
  And
• 33:50
  that's,
• 33:51
  you
• 33:51
  know,
• 33:51
  so
• 33:52
  he.
• 33:52
  So
• 33:53
  in
• 33:53
  a
• 33:53
  way,
• 33:55
  like
• 33:55
  mentorship,
• 33:56
  even
• 33:56
  power,
• 33:57
  like
• 33:57
  turn
• 33:58
  some
• 33:58
  of
• 33:58
  it
• 33:58
  on
• 33:59
  its.
• 33:59
  On
• 34:00
  its.
• 34:00
  On
• 34:00
  its
• 34:01
  head.
• 34:01
  So
• 34:01
  I
• 34:02
  enjoy
• 34:02
  that
• 34:03
  he
• 34:03
  is
• 34:03
  this
• 34:06
  small
• 34:07
  character,
• 34:09
  but
• 34:10
  this
• 34:11
  who's.
• 34:13
  Whose
• 34:14
  mentorship
• 34:15
  looms
• 34:16
  large.
• 34:17
  So
• 34:18
  not
• 34:18
  an
• 34:19
  admiral,
• 34:19
  not
• 34:20
  a
• 34:20
  captain
• 34:21
  groundskeeper
• 34:23
  who
• 34:24
  found
• 34:24
  a
• 34:25
  way
• 34:25
  to
• 34:26
  make
• 34:26
  people
• 34:27
  feel
• 34:27
  seen
• 34:29
  and
• 34:30
  no,
• 34:30
  I
• 34:30
  mean
• 34:31
  because
• 34:31
  he's
• 34:31
  on
• 34:31
  the
• 34:31
  margins
• 34:32
  in
• 34:32
  some
• 34:32
  way
• 34:32
  of
• 34:33
  this
• 34:33
  thing.
• 34:35
  And
• 34:35
  so
• 34:36
  that
• 34:37
  some,
• 34:37
  that
• 34:38
  this
• 34:38
  person
• 34:38
  who's
• 34:39
  on
• 34:39
  the
• 34:39
  margins
• 34:39
  of
• 34:39
  it
• 34:40
  managed
• 34:40
  to
• 34:40
  make
• 34:41
  folks
• 34:41
  who
• 34:42
  were
• 34:42
  more
• 34:42
  enfranchised
• 34:43
  than
• 34:43
  the
• 34:44
  entire
• 34:44
  system
• 34:45
  of
• 34:45
  Starfleet.
• 34:46
  He
• 34:47
  made
• 34:47
  them
• 34:47
  feel
• 34:48
  seen
• 34:49
  rather
• 34:49
  than
• 34:50
  seeing
• 34:50
  him.
• 34:50
  He
• 34:51
  saw
• 34:51
  them
• 34:51
  and
• 34:52
  how
• 34:52
  powerful
• 34:54
  that
• 34:54
  was.
• 34:54
  How.
• 34:55
  How
• 34:56
  he
• 34:56
  knew
• 34:56
  everybody,
• 34:57
  everybody
• 34:58
  singing.
• 34:58
  Booth
• 34:59
  B
• 34:59
  is
• 35:00
  talking
• 35:00
  about
• 35:00
  folks
• 35:01
  in
• 35:01
  different
• 35:01
  classes
• 35:02
  and
• 35:02
  what
• 35:02
  they
• 35:02
  did.
• 35:03
  And
• 35:03
  he's.
• 35:03
  Boothby
• 35:04
  is
• 35:04
  showing
• 35:04
  up
• 35:04
  to
• 35:05
  the
• 35:05
  games
• 35:06
  and
• 35:06
  matches
• 35:07
  And
• 35:08
  Boothby
• 35:09
  has
• 35:09
  this,
• 35:10
  has
• 35:10
  a
• 35:11
  ministry
• 35:11
  there.
• 35:12
  He's
• 35:12
  the
• 35:13
  chaplain.
• 35:13
  He's
• 35:13
  the
• 35:14
  spiritual
• 35:14
  guy
• 35:16
  of,
• 35:16
  of
• 35:17
  Starfleet.
• 35:18
  I
• 35:18
  don't
• 35:18
  know
• 35:18
  of
• 35:18
  any
• 35:18
  other
• 35:19
  chaplains
• 35:20
  that
• 35:20
  have
• 35:20
  ever
• 35:20
  been
• 35:20
  referenced.
• 35:21
  Maybe
• 35:21
  there
• 35:22
  have
• 35:22
  been
• 35:22
  some
• 35:22
  that
• 35:22
  I
• 35:22
  missed,
• 35:23
  but
• 35:23
  he
• 35:23
  is
• 35:24
  this
• 35:24
  chaplain
• 35:25
  and
• 35:25
  spiritual
• 35:25
  guide
• 35:26
  of,
• 35:27
  of
• 35:27
  this
• 35:27
  group.
• 35:28
  And
• 35:28
  he,
• 35:29
  he
• 35:29
  listens.
• 35:30
  He
• 35:30
  listens
• 35:31
  to
• 35:31
  their
• 35:32
  confessions.
• 35:35
  He.
• 35:35
  He
• 35:36
  listens
• 35:37
  enough
• 35:37
  to
• 35:37
  know
• 35:38
  who
• 35:39
  they
• 35:39
  are.
• 35:40
  And
• 35:40
  so
• 35:41
  he
• 35:41
  leads,
• 35:42
  he
• 35:42
  shapes,
• 35:43
  he
• 35:44
  shapes
• 35:44
  generations
• 35:46
  of
• 35:46
  officers
• 35:47
  by
• 35:48
  listening
• 35:48
  and
• 35:49
  paying
• 35:49
  attention.
• 35:50
  And
• 35:50
  that
• 35:51
  feels
• 35:51
  so
• 35:51
  very
• 35:52
  spiritual
• 35:52
  to
• 35:53
  me.
• 35:54
  You
• 35:55
  know,
• 35:55
  I'm
• 35:55
  a
• 35:55
  person
• 35:56
  who
• 35:58
  follows
• 35:59
  Ignatian
• 36:00
  spiritual
• 36:00
  practices.
• 36:02
  You
• 36:02
  know,
• 36:02
  this
• 36:02
  idea
• 36:02
  of
• 36:02
  spiritual
• 36:03
  companionship.
• 36:04
  And.
• 36:09
  So
• 36:09
  it's
• 36:10
  just.
• 36:11
  So
• 36:11
  I
• 36:11
  feel
• 36:12
  that
• 36:13
  this
• 36:13
  is
• 36:13
  who
• 36:14
  Booth
• 36:14
  B
• 36:15
  is.
• 36:15
  He's
• 36:15
  a
• 36:15
  spiritual
• 36:16
  director
• 36:17
  of
• 36:19
  Starfleet.
• 36:20
  And
• 36:22
  anyway,
• 36:22
  so
• 36:23
  this
• 36:24
  is
• 36:24
  what
• 36:24
  I
• 36:24
  love
• 36:24
  about
• 36:25
  Boothby.
• 36:26
  And
• 36:26
  so
• 36:26
  Star
• 36:26
  Trek
• 36:27
  really
• 36:28
  understands
• 36:29
  something
• 36:30
  here.
• 36:30
  And
• 36:30
  I
• 36:31
  think
• 36:31
  there's
• 36:31
  a
• 36:31
  wisdom
• 36:32
  of
• 36:33
  putting
• 36:34
  him
• 36:35
  in
• 36:35
  there
• 36:36
  because
• 36:36
  he's
• 36:36
  got
• 36:37
  the
• 36:37
  ability
• 36:38
  to
• 36:38
  speak
• 36:40
  truth
• 36:42
  to
• 36:42
  power.
• 36:43
  So
• 36:44
  where
• 36:44
  does
• 36:45
  Picard
• 36:46
  learn
• 36:47
  that
• 36:48
  the,
• 36:48
  the,
• 36:49
  the,
• 36:49
  the
• 36:50
  first.
• 36:50
  The
• 36:50
  Starfleet
• 36:51
  officer's
• 36:51
  first
• 36:52
  responsibility
• 36:53
  is
• 36:53
  to
• 36:53
  the
• 36:53
  truth?
• 36:54
  Maybe
• 36:54
  he
• 36:54
  learned
• 36:55
  that
• 36:55
  in
• 36:55
  the
• 36:55
  class,
• 36:56
  but
• 36:56
  if,
• 36:56
  if
• 36:57
  I'm
• 36:57
  a
• 36:57
  betting
• 36:57
  man,
• 36:57
  he
• 36:58
  learned
• 36:58
  that
• 36:58
  from
• 36:58
  Boothby.
• 36:59
  Boothby
• 37:00
  is
• 37:00
  kind
• 37:00
  of
• 37:00
  an
• 37:00
  excellent
• 37:01
  litmus
• 37:01
  test
• 37:02
  for
• 37:02
  other
• 37:02
  characters
• 37:03
  and
• 37:03
  how
• 37:03
  they
• 37:03
  react
• 37:04
  to
• 37:04
  him
• 37:05
  because
• 37:05
  as
• 37:05
  you
• 37:05
  stated,
• 37:06
  like,
• 37:06
  he's
• 37:06
  not
• 37:07
  their
• 37:07
  professor,
• 37:07
  he's
• 37:08
  not
• 37:08
  their
• 37:08
  leader.
• 37:08
  But
• 37:09
  one
• 37:09
  of.
• 37:09
  A
• 37:09
  great
• 37:09
  indicator
• 37:10
  of,
• 37:10
  of
• 37:11
  a
• 37:11
  person
• 37:11
  is
• 37:12
  how
• 37:12
  do
• 37:12
  they
• 37:12
  treat
• 37:12
  the
• 37:12
  people
• 37:13
  who
• 37:13
  are
• 37:13
  supposedly
• 37:13
  beneath
• 37:14
  them.
• 37:15
  And
• 37:16
  we
• 37:16
  see
• 37:16
  Picard,
• 37:17
  we
• 37:18
  see
• 37:18
  Janeway
• 37:19
  talk
• 37:19
  it,
• 37:20
  speak
• 37:20
  very
• 37:20
  fondly
• 37:21
  of
• 37:21
  him
• 37:22
  as
• 37:22
  someone
• 37:23
  like
• 37:23
  they
• 37:23
  didn't
• 37:24
  have
• 37:24
  to
• 37:24
  listen
• 37:24
  to
• 37:24
  a
• 37:24
  thing
• 37:24
  he
• 37:24
  said.
• 37:25
  They
• 37:25
  didn't
• 37:25
  have
• 37:25
  to
• 37:25
  look
• 37:25
  at
• 37:25
  the
• 37:26
  gardens
• 37:26
  that
• 37:26
  he
• 37:26
  cared
• 37:27
  for
• 37:27
  or
• 37:27
  even
• 37:27
  work
• 37:28
  with
• 37:28
  them
• 37:28
  in
• 37:28
  any
• 37:28
  way,
• 37:28
  but
• 37:29
  they
• 37:29
  chose
• 37:29
  to
• 37:30
  because
• 37:30
  they
• 37:31
  saw
• 37:31
  value
• 37:32
  not
• 37:32
  only
• 37:32
  in
• 37:32
  him,
• 37:33
  but
• 37:33
  also
• 37:33
  in
• 37:33
  what
• 37:33
  he
• 37:33
  had
• 37:33
  to
• 37:34
  impart.
• 37:34
  Yeah,
• 37:34
  any
• 37:35
  of
• 37:35
  their
• 37:35
  professors
• 37:35
  could
• 37:36
  have
• 37:36
  said
• 37:36
  the
• 37:36
  same
• 37:36
  things
• 37:36
  as
• 37:37
  him,
• 37:37
  but
• 37:37
  chances
• 37:37
  are
• 37:37
  they
• 37:37
  probably
• 37:38
  didn't.
• 37:38
  Professors
• 37:39
  sometimes,
• 37:40
  and
• 37:40
  pastors
• 37:41
  sometimes
• 37:42
  can
• 37:43
  sometimes
• 37:43
  get
• 37:43
  in
• 37:43
  our
• 37:43
  own
• 37:44
  way,
• 37:44
  we.
• 37:45
  We
• 37:45
  have
• 37:45
  a
• 37:45
  message,
• 37:46
  hey,
• 37:46
  do
• 37:47
  this.
• 37:47
  And
• 37:47
  that's
• 37:48
  the
• 37:48
  right
• 37:48
  thing
• 37:48
  to
• 37:48
  do.
• 37:49
  Like,
• 37:49
  otherwise
• 37:50
  we
• 37:50
  wouldn't
• 37:50
  be
• 37:50
  saying
• 37:50
  it.
• 37:51
  But
• 37:51
  sometimes
• 37:52
  we
• 37:52
  miss
• 37:52
  the
• 37:52
  person
• 37:53
  in
• 37:53
  the
• 37:53
  midst
• 37:53
  of
• 37:54
  all
• 37:54
  that.
• 37:54
  And
• 37:54
  sometimes
• 37:55
  it
• 37:55
  takes
• 37:55
  someone
• 37:55
  who
• 37:55
  isn't
• 37:56
  in
• 37:56
  that
• 37:56
  position
• 37:56
  of
• 37:56
  authority
• 37:57
  to
• 37:57
  look,
• 37:57
  say,
• 37:57
  hey,
• 37:58
  you
• 37:58
  said
• 37:59
  this
• 37:59
  absolutely
• 37:59
  right.
• 38:00
  Have
• 38:00
  you
• 38:00
  considered
• 38:00
  this
• 38:01
  or
• 38:01
  what
• 38:01
  about
• 38:01
  what's
• 38:01
  going
• 38:01
  on
• 38:02
  in
• 38:02
  your
• 38:02
  own
• 38:02
  life?
• 38:02
  We
• 38:02
  need
• 38:03
  Booth
• 38:03
  Bees
• 38:04
  like
• 38:04
  to
• 38:05
  help
• 38:05
  supplement
• 38:06
  lessons
• 38:06
  from
• 38:07
  professors,
• 38:07
  from
• 38:07
  pastors
• 38:08
  and
• 38:08
  the
• 38:08
  like,
• 38:08
  to
• 38:09
  make
• 38:09
  sure
• 38:09
  things
• 38:09
  run
• 38:09
  more
• 38:10
  smoothly
• 38:10
  to
• 38:10
  make
• 38:10
  sure
• 38:10
  people
• 38:11
  are
• 38:11
  cared
• 38:11
  for.
• 38:12
  And
• 38:12
  that's
• 38:12
  what
• 38:12
  he
• 38:13
  does
• 38:13
  really
• 38:13
  well,
• 38:13
  not
• 38:13
  just
• 38:14
  for
• 38:14
  his
• 38:14
  garden,
• 38:14
  but
• 38:14
  for
• 38:15
  the
• 38:15
  people
• 38:15
  who
• 38:15
  are
• 38:15
  willing
• 38:15
  to
• 38:16
  listen
• 38:16
  to
• 38:16
  him
• 38:16
  take
• 38:17
  time
• 38:17
  out
• 38:17
  of
• 38:17
  their
• 38:17
  day
• 38:17
  to
• 38:18
  be
• 38:18
  with
• 38:18
  him.
• 38:18
  It's
• 38:18
  not
• 38:18
  like
• 38:19
  he's
• 38:19
  out
• 38:20
  some
• 38:20
  philosopher
• 38:21
  being
• 38:21
  like,
• 38:21
  oh,
• 38:21
  listen
• 38:22
  to
• 38:22
  my
• 38:22
  words.
• 38:22
  It's
• 38:23
  like,
• 38:23
  no,
• 38:23
  no,
• 38:23
  no,
• 38:23
  I'm
• 38:24
  spending
• 38:24
  time
• 38:24
  with
• 38:24
  you.
• 38:24
  We're
• 38:25
  getting
• 38:25
  to
• 38:25
  know
• 38:25
  each
• 38:25
  other.
• 38:26
  And
• 38:26
  while
• 38:26
  you're
• 38:26
  here,
• 38:27
  here's
• 38:27
  what
• 38:27
  I've
• 38:27
  learned
• 38:28
  over
• 38:28
  my
• 38:28
  long
• 38:28
  life.
• 38:29
  Yes.
• 38:30
  Boothby
• 38:31
  is
• 38:31
  helping
• 38:31
  people
• 38:31
  return
• 38:32
  to
• 38:32
  Eden.
• 38:35
  And
• 38:36
  well,
• 38:37
  I
• 38:37
  mean
• 38:37
  we,
• 38:40
  as
• 38:40
  we
• 38:40
  think
• 38:41
  about
• 38:41
  in
• 38:41
  the
• 38:41
  scriptural
• 38:42
  tradition,
• 38:42
  right.
• 38:43
  You
• 38:43
  know,
• 38:44
  the
• 38:44
  garden
• 38:45
  of
• 38:45
  Eden
• 38:45
  or
• 38:46
  Jesus
• 38:46
  being
• 38:46
  mistaken
• 38:47
  as
• 38:47
  a
• 38:47
  gardener
• 38:49
  post
• 38:49
  resurrection,
• 38:50
  you
• 38:50
  know,
• 38:50
  so
• 38:51
  we,
• 38:51
  we,
• 38:52
  we
• 38:53
  tend
• 38:53
  to
• 38:53
  think
• 38:54
  of
• 38:54
  gardens
• 38:55
  in
• 38:56
  these
• 38:56
  very
• 38:56
  spiritual
• 38:57
  ways.
• 38:57
  And,
• 38:58
  and
• 38:58
  those
• 38:59
  who
• 38:59
  form
• 39:00
  gardens
• 39:01
  intend
• 39:02
  gardens
• 39:03
  to
• 39:03
  be
• 39:04
  having
• 39:04
  some
• 39:05
  bit
• 39:05
  of
• 39:05
  a
• 39:05
  divine
• 39:06
  element
• 39:06
  to
• 39:07
  them
• 39:07
  or
• 39:08
  being
• 39:08
  ones
• 39:09
  who
• 39:09
  move
• 39:09
  toward
• 39:09
  the
• 39:09
  divine.
• 39:10
  Well,
• 39:11
  this
• 39:11
  is
• 39:11
  what
• 39:12
  does.
• 39:12
  I
• 39:13
  mean,
• 39:13
  Star
• 39:14
  Trek
• 39:15
  is.
• 39:18
  Its
• 39:18
  spirituality
• 39:19
  is
• 39:19
  interesting
• 39:23
  and
• 39:24
  you
• 39:24
  know,
• 39:25
  quite
• 39:25
  a
• 39:25
  bit
• 39:25
  of
• 39:25
  it
• 39:25
  in
• 39:26
  Deep
• 39:26
  Space
• 39:26
  Nine.
• 39:27
  Nine.
• 39:27
  But
• 39:28
  in
• 39:28
  other
• 39:29
  parts
• 39:29
  of
• 39:29
  it
• 39:29
  it's
• 39:30
  like,
• 39:30
  oh,
• 39:30
  well,
• 39:30
  hey,
• 39:31
  you
• 39:31
  know,
• 39:31
  secular
• 39:31
  humanism,
• 39:32
  here
• 39:32
  we
• 39:33
  go.
• 39:33
  But,
• 39:33
  but
• 39:34
  Booth
• 39:34
  be
• 39:34
  represents
• 39:35
  something
• 39:37
  spiritual.
• 39:39
  And,
• 39:40
  and
• 39:41
  yeah,
• 39:41
  that
• 39:41
  idea
• 39:42
  that,
• 39:43
  you
• 39:43
  know,
• 39:44
  sometimes
• 39:44
  what
• 39:44
  changes
• 39:45
  us,
• 39:45
  sometimes
• 39:46
  the
• 39:46
  people
• 39:46
  who
• 39:47
  change
• 39:47
  us
• 39:47
  the
• 39:48
  most
• 39:49
  are
• 39:49
  not
• 39:49
  people
• 39:50
  were
• 39:50
  in
• 39:51
  charge
• 39:52
  because,
• 39:53
  you
• 39:53
  know,
• 39:54
  apart
• 39:54
  from
• 39:55
  the
• 39:55
  names
• 39:55
  that
• 39:55
  we
• 39:56
  know
• 39:56
  and
• 39:56
  love,
• 39:57
  Admiral
• 39:57
  Janeway,
• 39:59
  Admiral
• 39:59
  Picard,
• 40:00
  different
• 40:00
  people
• 40:01
  who
• 40:01
  at
• 40:01
  a
• 40:02
  certain
• 40:02
  point.
• 40:03
  And
• 40:03
  Picard
• 40:04
  as
• 40:04
  chancellor
• 40:04
  for
• 40:04
  a
• 40:04
  bit
• 40:05
  of
• 40:05
  the,
• 40:05
  of
• 40:05
  the
• 40:06
  carefully
• 40:06
  academy,
• 40:07
  at
• 40:07
  least
• 40:07
  according
• 40:07
  to
• 40:08
  the
• 40:08
  newer
• 40:09
  Picard
• 40:10
  series,
• 40:10
  for
• 40:11
  the
• 40:11
  most
• 40:11
  part
• 40:12
  there
• 40:12
  is
• 40:13
  not
• 40:13
  any
• 40:14
  other
• 40:14
  or
• 40:15
  insert
• 40:15
  incurred,
• 40:16
  you
• 40:16
  know.
• 40:16
  So
• 40:16
  think
• 40:17
  about
• 40:17
  people
• 40:17
  who
• 40:17
  achieve
• 40:18
  the
• 40:18
  rank
• 40:18
  of
• 40:18
  Admiral
• 40:19
  at
• 40:19
  some
• 40:19
  point
• 40:20
  other
• 40:20
  than
• 40:20
  the
• 40:20
  ones
• 40:20
  that
• 40:21
  we
• 40:21
  know
• 40:21
  and
• 40:21
  love.
• 40:22
  There's
• 40:23
  nobody
• 40:24
  that
• 40:24
  we
• 40:25
  esteem
• 40:25
  in
• 40:26
  Star
• 40:26
  Trek
• 40:26
  leadership.
• 40:27
  When
• 40:27
  you
• 40:27
  think
• 40:27
  about
• 40:28
  it
• 40:28
  like
• 40:29
  these
• 40:29
  admirals
• 40:30
  in
• 40:30
  the
• 40:30
  original
• 40:30
  series
• 40:31
  and
• 40:31
  the
• 40:31
  movies.
• 40:32
  And
• 40:32
  they
• 40:33
  should
• 40:33
  always
• 40:33
  cause
• 40:33
  problems.
• 40:34
  They're
• 40:34
  always
• 40:35
  causing
• 40:35
  problems,
• 40:36
  always.
• 40:40
  So
• 40:41
  these
• 40:41
  are
• 40:41
  not
• 40:42
  the
• 40:42
  people
• 40:42
  that
• 40:42
  we're
• 40:42
  looking
• 40:43
  toward
• 40:45
  or
• 40:46
  you
• 40:46
  know,
• 40:46
  for
• 40:47
  any
• 40:47
  kind
• 40:47
  of
• 40:47
  moral
• 40:48
  authority.
• 40:49
  But
• 40:50
  Booth
• 40:50
  be.
• 40:51
  Yeah,
• 40:51
  yeah,
• 40:51
  all
• 40:52
  right,
• 40:52
  I
• 40:52
  know
• 40:52
  we're
• 40:52
  going
• 40:53
  on
• 40:53
  long.
• 40:53
  Oh,
• 40:53
  yes,
• 40:54
  we,
• 40:54
  we
• 40:55
  have
• 40:55
  to
• 40:55
  talk.
• 40:56
  Okay.
• 40:56
  About
• 40:57
  the
• 40:57
  Kobayashi
• 40:58
  Maru.
• 40:58
  Justin,
• 40:59
  can
• 40:59
  you
• 40:59
  explain
• 41:00
  the
• 41:00
  Kobayashi
• 41:01
  Maru?
• 41:01
  The
• 41:02
  Kobayashi
• 41:02
  Maru
• 41:03
  is
• 41:03
  a
• 41:03
  test
• 41:03
  that
• 41:04
  all
• 41:04
  cadets
• 41:05
  take
• 41:05
  and
• 41:06
  they
• 41:06
  are
• 41:06
  put.
• 41:07
  It's
• 41:07
  meant
• 41:08
  to
• 41:08
  expose
• 41:08
  them
• 41:09
  and
• 41:10
  expose
• 41:11
  their
• 41:11
  character
• 41:12
  in
• 41:12
  these
• 41:12
  impossible
• 41:13
  conditions.
• 41:14
  So
• 41:14
  it
• 41:14
  is
• 41:14
  a
• 41:15
  no
• 41:15
  win
• 41:16
  scenario.
• 41:16
  You're
• 41:17
  there,
• 41:18
  folks
• 41:18
  are
• 41:18
  coming
• 41:18
  in,
• 41:18
  Klingons
• 41:19
  are
• 41:19
  attacking,
• 41:20
  somebody's
• 41:20
  attacking.
• 41:21
  And
• 41:21
  you've
• 41:22
  got
• 41:22
  to
• 41:22
  make
• 41:24
  decisions,
• 41:24
  consequential
• 41:25
  decisions
• 41:26
  for
• 41:26
  the
• 41:26
  life
• 41:27
  and
• 41:27
  well
• 41:27
  being
• 41:27
  of
• 41:28
  your
• 41:28
  ship
• 41:28
  and
• 41:29
  of
• 41:29
  its
• 41:29
  crew.
• 41:30
  And
• 41:31
  no
• 41:32
  matter
• 41:32
  what
• 41:32
  you
• 41:32
  do,
• 41:33
  the
• 41:34
  test
• 41:35
  creates
• 41:36
  more
• 41:36
  variables
• 41:37
  to
• 41:37
  ensure
• 41:38
  your
• 41:39
  failure.
• 41:40
  So,
• 41:42
  so
• 41:42
  it's
• 41:42
  meant
• 41:43
  to
• 41:43
  reveal
• 41:45
  how
• 41:46
  someone
• 41:46
  responds
• 41:47
  to
• 41:48
  failure.
• 41:49
  Yes,
• 41:50
  to
• 41:51
  sacrifice
• 41:54
  to,
• 41:55
  you
• 41:55
  know
• 41:55
  what,
• 41:55
  to
• 41:56
  pressure.
• 41:58
  And,
• 41:59
  and
• 42:00
  so
• 42:00
  in
• 42:00
  that
• 42:00
  way,
• 42:01
  it
• 42:02
  is
• 42:02
  a
• 42:02
  refining
• 42:03
  fire
• 42:05
  that,
• 42:06
  that
• 42:06
  shows
• 42:07
  who
• 42:07
  you
• 42:07
  are.
• 42:07
  If
• 42:07
  it's
• 42:08
  true
• 42:08
  that,
• 42:08
  that
• 42:08
  we
• 42:09
  see
• 42:10
  best
• 42:10
  of
• 42:11
  who
• 42:11
  we
• 42:11
  are
• 42:11
  under
• 42:11
  pressure.
• 42:13
  This
• 42:14
  is
• 42:14
  meant
• 42:14
  to
• 42:15
  show
• 42:16
  who
• 42:16
  you
• 42:16
  really
• 42:17
  are.
• 42:17
  You
• 42:17
  can't.
• 42:18
  You
• 42:18
  got
• 42:19
  to
• 42:19
  let
• 42:19
  go
• 42:19
  of
• 42:19
  the
• 42:19
  facades
• 42:21
  in
• 42:21
  the
• 42:21
  Kobayashi
• 42:23
  Maru.
• 42:24
  Yeah,
• 42:25
  it's
• 42:25
  one
• 42:25
  of
• 42:25
  those.
• 42:27
  When
• 42:27
  you're
• 42:27
  watching
• 42:27
  the
• 42:27
  opening
• 42:28
  of
• 42:28
  Wrath
• 42:28
  of
• 42:28
  Khan,
• 42:29
  which
• 42:29
  I
• 42:29
  got
• 42:29
  to
• 42:29
  do
• 42:29
  really
• 42:30
  recently
• 42:30
  with
• 42:31
  Shatner
• 42:31
  hosting,
• 42:32
  it
• 42:32
  was
• 42:32
  a
• 42:32
  lot
• 42:32
  of
• 42:33
  fun
• 42:34
  with
• 42:34
  my
• 42:35
  dad,
• 42:36
  you're
• 42:36
  like,
• 42:37
  what's
• 42:37
  going
• 42:37
  on
• 42:37
  here?
• 42:38
  Who
• 42:38
  is
• 42:39
  this
• 42:39
  woman
• 42:39
  in
• 42:39
  charge
• 42:39
  of
• 42:39
  the
• 42:40
  Enterprise?
• 42:40
  She's
• 42:40
  a
• 42:40
  Vulcan,
• 42:41
  like
• 42:41
  Spock.
• 42:41
  And
• 42:41
  like
• 42:42
  the
• 42:42
  rest
• 42:42
  of
• 42:42
  the
• 42:42
  crew's
• 42:42
  there,
• 42:43
  but
• 42:43
  like,
• 42:43
  then
• 42:44
  you
• 42:44
  see
• 42:44
  the
• 42:44
  reveal.
• 42:45
  Like,
• 42:45
  no,
• 42:45
  this
• 42:45
  was
• 42:46
  the
• 42:46
  simulation,
• 42:48
  like,
• 42:48
  testing
• 42:49
  your
• 42:49
  resolve
• 42:50
  in
• 42:50
  the
• 42:50
  face
• 42:51
  of
• 42:52
  everything
• 42:52
  that's
• 42:52
  going
• 42:53
  on.
• 42:54
  Like,
• 42:55
  how
• 42:55
  do
• 42:55
  you
• 42:55
  handle
• 42:55
  high
• 42:56
  pressure
• 42:56
  situations?
• 42:57
  How
• 42:57
  do
• 42:57
  you
• 42:57
  handle
• 42:57
  losing?
• 42:59
  And
• 42:59
  that's
• 43:00
  huge,
• 43:00
  especially
• 43:00
  for
• 43:00
  someone
• 43:01
  who's
• 43:01
  going
• 43:01
  to
• 43:01
  seek
• 43:01
  a
• 43:01
  command
• 43:02
  position
• 43:02
  because
• 43:02
  you
• 43:02
  got
• 43:03
  to
• 43:03
  make
• 43:03
  tough
• 43:03
  decisions
• 43:04
  on
• 43:04
  the
• 43:04
  fly,
• 43:05
  knowing
• 43:05
  you
• 43:05
  may
• 43:05
  make
• 43:05
  the
• 43:06
  wrong
• 43:06
  decision,
• 43:06
  knowing
• 43:06
  it
• 43:07
  may
• 43:07
  cost
• 43:07
  the
• 43:07
  lives
• 43:07
  of
• 43:07
  your
• 43:08
  crew.
• 43:08
  Like,
• 43:09
  it's
• 43:09
  a
• 43:09
  brilliant
• 43:10
  idea.
• 43:11
  And
• 43:11
  we
• 43:12
  see
• 43:12
  in
• 43:13
  one
• 43:13
  of
• 43:13
  the
• 43:13
  main
• 43:13
  cruxes
• 43:14
  of
• 43:14
  the
• 43:14
  film
• 43:14
  is
• 43:14
  Kirk's
• 43:15
  idea
• 43:15
  of,
• 43:15
  I
• 43:15
  don't
• 43:16
  believe
• 43:16
  in
• 43:16
  the
• 43:16
  no
• 43:16
  win
• 43:16
  situation.
• 43:17
  What
• 43:17
  does
• 43:17
  he
• 43:17
  actually
• 43:18
  do
• 43:18
  later
• 43:18
  on
• 43:18
  in
• 43:18
  the
• 43:18
  film
• 43:19
  when
• 43:19
  he's
• 43:19
  presented
• 43:19
  with
• 43:19
  a
• 43:20
  no
• 43:20
  win
• 43:20
  situation?
• 43:21
  Like,
• 43:22
  the
• 43:22
  needs
• 43:22
  of
• 43:22
  the
• 43:22
  many
• 43:23
  outweigh
• 43:23
  the
• 43:23
  needs
• 43:23
  of
• 43:23
  the
• 43:23
  few.
• 43:24
  And
• 43:25
  we
• 43:25
  see
• 43:25
  Spock
• 43:26
  make
• 43:26
  the
• 43:26
  decision
• 43:26
  he
• 43:26
  makes
• 43:27
  because
• 43:27
  he
• 43:27
  also
• 43:27
  had
• 43:27
  to
• 43:28
  take
• 43:28
  the
• 43:28
  test
• 43:28
  forever
• 43:28
  ago.
• 43:29
  Yeah.
• 43:30
  But
• 43:30
  we
• 43:30
  learn
• 43:31
  as
• 43:31
  Kirk
• 43:32
  teaches
• 43:32
  Savik,
• 43:32
  I
• 43:33
  cheated.
• 43:33
  I
• 43:34
  changed,
• 43:34
  you
• 43:34
  know,
• 43:35
  everything
• 43:35
  about
• 43:35
  it.
• 43:36
  I
• 43:36
  messed
• 43:36
  with
• 43:36
  the
• 43:36
  system
• 43:37
  and
• 43:37
  got
• 43:37
  a
• 43:38
  commendation
• 43:38
  for
• 43:38
  it.
• 43:39
  Everyone
• 43:39
  was
• 43:39
  mad
• 43:40
  because
• 43:40
  that's
• 43:41
  not
• 43:41
  how
• 43:41
  you're
• 43:41
  supposed
• 43:41
  to
• 43:41
  do
• 43:41
  it.
• 43:42
  But
• 43:42
  he
• 43:42
  did.
• 43:42
  And
• 43:43
  that's
• 43:43
  so
• 43:43
  fun.
• 43:44
  It's
• 43:44
  so,
• 43:44
  like,
• 43:44
  how
• 43:44
  would
• 43:45
  another
• 43:45
  character
• 43:45
  respond
• 43:46
  in
• 43:46
  that
• 43:46
  scenario?
• 43:47
  Like,
• 43:48
  how
• 43:48
  does
• 43:49
  Cisco
• 43:49
  face
• 43:50
  it
• 43:50
  vs
• 43:50
  Picard
• 43:51
  face
• 43:51
  it
• 43:51
  vs
• 43:52
  Janeway
• 43:52
  face
• 43:53
  it
• 43:53
  so
• 43:53
  on,
• 43:54
  so
• 43:54
  forth.
• 43:54
  And
• 43:55
  it's
• 43:55
  not
• 43:56
  canon,
• 43:57
  but
• 43:57
  it's
• 43:57
  one
• 43:57
  of
• 43:57
  the
• 43:57
  Star
• 43:57
  Trek
• 43:58
  novels
• 43:58
  for
• 43:58
  Enterprise
• 43:59
  called
• 43:59
  Kobayashi
• 44:00
  Maru.
• 44:00
  And
• 44:01
  it
• 44:01
  face.
• 44:01
  The
• 44:02
  idea
• 44:02
  being
• 44:02
  this
• 44:02
  is
• 44:02
  what
• 44:03
  actually
• 44:03
  happened.
• 44:04
  Archer
• 44:04
  and
• 44:04
  the
• 44:04
  Enterprise
• 44:05
  faced
• 44:05
  a
• 44:05
  scenario
• 44:06
  with
• 44:06
  the
• 44:06
  Kobayashi
• 44:06
  or
• 44:07
  Maru.
• 44:07
  I
• 44:07
  don't
• 44:07
  remember
• 44:08
  all
• 44:08
  the
• 44:08
  circumstances,
• 44:08
  but
• 44:09
  it's
• 44:09
  him
• 44:09
  looking
• 44:09
  back
• 44:10
  and
• 44:10
  going,
• 44:10
  what
• 44:10
  could
• 44:10
  I
• 44:10
  have
• 44:11
  done
• 44:11
  differently?
• 44:11
  I
• 44:12
  faced
• 44:12
  all
• 44:12
  these
• 44:12
  things
• 44:13
  as
• 44:13
  a
• 44:13
  captain
• 44:13
  and
• 44:14
  that
• 44:14
  becoming,
• 44:14
  like,
• 44:14
  the
• 44:14
  basis
• 44:15
  for.
• 44:15
  We
• 44:15
  should
• 44:15
  use
• 44:15
  this
• 44:16
  as
• 44:16
  a
• 44:16
  testing
• 44:17
  for
• 44:17
  cadets
• 44:18
  and
• 44:18
  the
• 44:18
  like.
• 44:19
  Now,
• 44:19
  obviously,
• 44:20
  things
• 44:20
  have
• 44:20
  changed.
• 44:20
  We're
• 44:20
  allies
• 44:21
  of
• 44:21
  the
• 44:21
  Klingons
• 44:21
  now.
• 44:22
  Sometimes
• 44:22
  it's
• 44:23
  Romulan,
• 44:23
  sometimes
• 44:24
  it's
• 44:24
  some
• 44:24
  other
• 44:24
  race.
• 44:26
  But
• 44:26
  the
• 44:27
  central
• 44:27
  premise
• 44:27
  remains.
• 44:28
  What
• 44:28
  do
• 44:29
  you
• 44:29
  do
• 44:29
  when
• 44:30
  you
• 44:30
  have
• 44:30
  no
• 44:30
  way
• 44:31
  out
• 44:31
  of
• 44:31
  a
• 44:31
  scenario,
• 44:32
  regardless
• 44:33
  of
• 44:33
  what
• 44:33
  you
• 44:33
  do?
• 44:34
  So
• 44:35
  freaking
• 44:35
  good,
• 44:35
  man.
• 44:37
  So
• 44:37
  good.
• 44:38
  And
• 44:38
  just
• 44:38
  to
• 44:39
  say,
• 44:39
  you
• 44:39
  know,
• 44:40
  we
• 44:40
  go
• 44:40
  ahead,
• 44:40
  we
• 44:41
  all,
• 44:41
  we
• 44:41
  all
• 44:42
  benefit
• 44:42
  from
• 44:43
  this.
• 44:44
  Yes.
• 44:45
  And
• 44:45
  because
• 44:45
  we,
• 44:46
  as
• 44:46
  someone
• 44:47
  once
• 44:47
  said,
• 44:48
  character
• 44:48
  is
• 44:48
  not
• 44:49
  formed.
• 44:50
  We
• 44:50
  don't
• 44:50
  grow
• 44:50
  as
• 44:50
  people
• 44:52
  when
• 44:52
  we're
• 44:53
  on
• 44:53
  a
• 44:53
  beach
• 44:54
  sipping
• 44:54
  on
• 44:54
  lemonade,
• 44:56
  people
• 44:57
  through
• 44:57
  the
• 44:57
  crucibles
• 44:58
  of
• 44:58
  life.
• 44:58
  That
• 44:59
  builds
• 45:00
  character,
• 45:00
  builds
• 45:01
  who
• 45:01
  we,
• 45:02
  who
• 45:02
  we
• 45:02
  are.
• 45:03
  And
• 45:03
  the
• 45:04
  Christian
• 45:04
  tradition
• 45:05
  has
• 45:05
  believed
• 45:06
  that
• 45:06
  strongly
• 45:07
  and
• 45:08
  spirituality,
• 45:08
  and
• 45:09
  I
• 45:09
  would
• 45:09
  say
• 45:09
  many
• 45:09
  spiritual
• 45:10
  traditions
• 45:11
  believe
• 45:11
  that
• 45:12
  in
• 45:12
  various
• 45:13
  ways.
• 45:13
  It's
• 45:13
  one
• 45:13
  of
• 45:13
  those
• 45:14
  things
• 45:14
  that
• 45:14
  Jesus
• 45:14
  never
• 45:14
  promised
• 45:15
  we'd
• 45:15
  never
• 45:15
  go
• 45:15
  through
• 45:15
  trials
• 45:16
  and
• 45:16
  tribulations.
• 45:17
  He
• 45:17
  said
• 45:17
  he'd
• 45:17
  be
• 45:17
  there
• 45:17
  with
• 45:18
  us
• 45:18
  as
• 45:18
  we
• 45:18
  went
• 45:18
  through
• 45:19
  them,
• 45:19
  becoming
• 45:20
  the
• 45:20
  people
• 45:20
  he
• 45:20
  needs
• 45:20
  us
• 45:21
  to
• 45:21
  be,
• 45:21
  the
• 45:22
  people
• 45:22
  we
• 45:22
  actually
• 45:22
  want
• 45:23
  to
• 45:23
  be.
• 45:23
  Yeah,
• 45:23
  in
• 45:23
  the
• 45:24
  moment,
• 45:24
  it
• 45:24
  sucks,
• 45:25
  you
• 45:25
  know,
• 45:25
  because
• 45:26
  bad
• 45:26
  things
• 45:26
  are
• 45:26
  bad.
• 45:27
  It's
• 45:28
  as
• 45:28
  simple
• 45:28
  as
• 45:28
  that.
• 45:28
  Is,
• 45:29
  we
• 45:29
  don't
• 45:29
  like
• 45:29
  going
• 45:29
  through
• 45:29
  it.
• 45:29
  But
• 45:30
  yet,
• 45:30
  at
• 45:30
  the
• 45:30
  end
• 45:30
  of
• 45:30
  the
• 45:30
  day,
• 45:30
  I
• 45:30
  can
• 45:31
  look
• 45:31
  back
• 45:31
  at
• 45:31
  everything
• 45:31
  I've
• 45:31
  suffered
• 45:32
  through
• 45:32
  and
• 45:32
  go,
• 45:32
  this
• 45:33
  is
• 45:33
  why,
• 45:33
  who
• 45:33
  I
• 45:33
  am
• 45:34
  today,
• 45:35
  I
• 45:35
  am
• 45:35
  a
• 45:35
  different
• 45:35
  person.
• 45:36
  I
• 45:36
  make
• 45:36
  different
• 45:36
  choices
• 45:36
  now
• 45:37
  because
• 45:37
  I
• 45:37
  suffered
• 45:37
  the
• 45:38
  loss
• 45:38
  of
• 45:38
  my
• 45:38
  grandfather,
• 45:39
  because
• 45:39
  I
• 45:40
  made
• 45:40
  that
• 45:40
  stupid
• 45:40
  decision
• 45:41
  that
• 45:41
  ended
• 45:41
  a
• 45:41
  friendship
• 45:42
  that
• 45:42
  may
• 45:43
  I
• 45:43
  never
• 45:43
  do
• 45:43
  the
• 45:43
  same
• 45:43
  thing
• 45:44
  again.
• 45:44
  Like,
• 45:45
  it's
• 45:45
  a
• 45:45
  perfect
• 45:45
  example
• 45:46
  in
• 45:46
  a
• 45:46
  fictional
• 45:47
  way
• 45:47
  of
• 45:47
  showing
• 45:47
  what
• 45:47
  we
• 45:48
  should
• 45:48
  go
• 45:48
  through
• 45:48
  in
• 45:48
  life.
• 45:49
  Right?
• 45:50
  Yeah.
• 45:50
  And,
• 45:51
  and,
• 45:52
  and,
• 45:53
  yeah,
• 45:54
  it
• 45:54
  shapes
• 45:54
  us.
• 45:55
  And,
• 45:55
  and
• 45:55
  this
• 45:56
  is,
• 45:57
  you
• 45:57
  know,
• 45:57
  one
• 45:57
  might
• 45:58
  even
• 45:58
  say
• 45:58
  even
• 45:58
  when
• 45:59
  we
• 45:59
  think
• 45:59
  about
• 45:59
  Kirk
• 46:00
  trying
• 46:00
  to
• 46:00
  skirt
• 46:01
  defeat,
• 46:02
  you
• 46:02
  know,
• 46:03
  as
• 46:03
  his
• 46:04
  character
• 46:04
  matures,
• 46:05
  really
• 46:05
  through
• 46:05
  the
• 46:05
  movies,
• 46:06
  we
• 46:06
  see
• 46:08
  how
• 46:09
  things
• 46:09
  that
• 46:10
  don't
• 46:10
  work
• 46:10
  out,
• 46:11
  even
• 46:11
  though
• 46:11
  Spock
• 46:11
  comes
• 46:12
  back
• 46:12
  to
• 46:12
  life.
• 46:12
  But,
• 46:12
  you
• 46:13
  know,
• 46:13
  we
• 46:13
  start
• 46:13
  to
• 46:13
  see,
• 46:14
  you
• 46:15
  know,
• 46:15
  we
• 46:15
  start
• 46:15
  to
• 46:15
  see
• 46:18
  how
• 46:19
  it
• 46:19
  shapes
• 46:20
  us.
• 46:20
  Or
• 46:20
  Picard
• 46:21
  saying
• 46:22
  In
• 46:23
  Star
• 46:23
  Trek
• 46:23
  5,
• 46:25
  Kirk
• 46:25
  saying,
• 46:25
  Star
• 46:26
  Trek
• 46:26
  5,
• 46:27
  you
• 46:27
  know,
• 46:28
  to
• 46:28
  Cyboc,
• 46:29
  I
• 46:29
  need
• 46:29
  my
• 46:29
  pain.
• 46:30
  This
• 46:31
  is
• 46:31
  what
• 46:31
  makes
• 46:31
  me
• 46:31
  who
• 46:32
  I
• 46:32
  am.
• 46:33
  You
• 46:34
  know,
• 46:34
  if
• 46:35
  you
• 46:35
  take
• 46:35
  the
• 46:35
  pain
• 46:35
  and
• 46:35
  guilt
• 46:36
  away
• 46:38
  from
• 46:38
  me,
• 46:39
  I'll
• 46:39
  be
• 46:39
  somebody
• 46:40
  else.
• 46:40
  I
• 46:40
  need
• 46:40
  my
• 46:41
  pain.
• 46:42
  So
• 46:42
  at
• 46:42
  some
• 46:42
  point,
• 46:42
  at
• 46:43
  some
• 46:43
  point,
• 46:43
  he's
• 46:44
  learned
• 46:45
  that
• 46:45
  this
• 46:46
  is
• 46:46
  how
• 46:46
  one
• 46:46
  grows.
• 46:47
  Yeah.
• 46:48
  Well,
• 46:48
  speaking
• 46:49
  of
• 46:49
  the
• 46:49
  Kobayashi
• 46:49
  remove,
• 46:50
  as
• 46:50
  we're
• 46:50
  winding
• 46:51
  things
• 46:51
  down,
• 46:51
  our
• 46:51
  bonus
• 46:52
  question
• 46:52
  for
• 46:52
  the
• 46:52
  day
• 46:53
  is
• 46:53
  going
• 46:53
  to
• 46:53
  be
• 46:53
  ourselves
• 46:54
  asking
• 46:54
  the
• 46:54
  question,
• 46:55
  how
• 46:55
  would
• 46:55
  we
• 46:55
  revamp
• 46:56
  the
• 46:56
  Kobayashi
• 46:57
  Maru
• 46:57
  test
• 46:57
  for
• 46:57
  Modern
• 46:58
  Trek
• 46:58
  because
• 46:58
  obviously
• 46:58
  Klingons
• 46:59
  are
• 46:59
  allies
• 46:59
  now.
• 46:59
  You
• 46:59
  can't
• 46:59
  be
• 47:00
  doing
• 47:00
  that.
• 47:00
  Romulans
• 47:01
  are
• 47:01
  now
• 47:01
  kind
• 47:01
  of
• 47:01
  allies.
• 47:02
  Like
• 47:02
  how
• 47:02
  would
• 47:02
  we
• 47:03
  change
• 47:03
  things
• 47:03
  up?
• 47:03
  Spice
• 47:04
  it
• 47:04
  up
• 47:04
  for
• 47:04
  cadets.
• 47:05
  Because
• 47:05
  you
• 47:05
  just
• 47:06
  tell
• 47:06
  them,
• 47:06
  oh,
• 47:06
  this
• 47:06
  is
• 47:06
  what
• 47:07
  happens.
• 47:07
  So
• 47:07
  you
• 47:07
  could
• 47:07
  potentially
• 47:08
  do
• 47:08
  something.
• 47:09
  Let's
• 47:09
  make
• 47:09
  it
• 47:09
  new
• 47:09
  for
• 47:10
  them.
• 47:11
  So
• 47:11
  Justin,
• 47:11
  anything
• 47:11
  else
• 47:12
  you'd
• 47:12
  like
• 47:12
  to
• 47:12
  say
• 47:12
  about
• 47:12
  Starfleet
• 47:13
  Academy
• 47:13
  before
• 47:13
  we
• 47:13
  move
• 47:13
  on?
• 47:14
  No,
• 47:15
  no,
• 47:15
  I.
• 47:18
  Other
• 47:18
  than
• 47:18
  just.
• 47:19
  Just
• 47:19
  reiterating
• 47:20
  that
• 47:20
  I
• 47:21
  love
• 47:21
  it
• 47:21
  here
• 47:21
  and
• 47:22
  I
• 47:22
  love
• 47:23
  this
• 47:23
  question
• 47:24
  that
• 47:24
  you've
• 47:24
  raised
• 47:24
  about
• 47:25
  how
• 47:25
  we
• 47:25
  would
• 47:25
  revamp
• 47:26
  the
• 47:26
  Kobayashi
• 47:26
  Maru.
• 47:27
  Perfect.
• 47:28
  All
• 47:28
  right.
• 47:29
  Do
• 47:29
  you
• 47:29
  have
• 47:29
  a
• 47:29
  recommendation
• 47:30
  for
• 47:30
  the
• 47:30
  audience
• 47:30
  to
• 47:30
  check
• 47:31
  out
• 47:31
  Golly.
• 47:34
  For
• 47:34
  again,
• 47:35
  for
• 47:35
  all
• 47:35
  those
• 47:35
  who's
• 47:35
  not
• 47:36
  seen
• 47:36
  it,
• 47:37
  jump
• 47:38
  into
• 47:38
  for
• 47:39
  all
• 47:39
  mankind.
• 47:40
  Fun.
• 47:41
  Just
• 47:42
  interesting
• 47:43
  stuff
• 47:44
  as
• 47:44
  far
• 47:44
  as
• 47:45
  sci
• 47:45
  fi.
• 47:45
  And
• 47:46
  everybody
• 47:46
  who
• 47:46
  hasn't
• 47:47
  caught
• 47:47
  up
• 47:47
  on
• 47:47
  he
• 47:47
  man,
• 47:47
  get
• 47:48
  on
• 47:48
  it.
• 47:48
  It's
• 47:49
  time.
• 47:51
  Yeah,
• 47:52
  I'm
• 47:52
  going
• 47:52
  to
• 47:52
  recommend
• 47:53
  Monster.
• 47:54
  Monster
• 47:54
  is
• 47:55
  manga
• 47:55
  anime
• 47:56
  about
• 47:57
  a
• 47:57
  doctor
• 47:57
  in
• 47:58
  Germany.
• 47:58
  He's
• 47:59
  Japanese
• 47:59
  doctor
• 48:00
  who
• 48:00
  immigrated
• 48:01
  there
• 48:01
  and
• 48:02
  he's
• 48:02
  faced
• 48:02
  with
• 48:02
  a
• 48:03
  decision.
• 48:03
  Do
• 48:03
  I
• 48:03
  save.
• 48:03
  This
• 48:04
  prominent
• 48:04
  person
• 48:04
  who
• 48:05
  gives
• 48:05
  money
• 48:05
  to
• 48:05
  the
• 48:05
  hospital
• 48:06
  will
• 48:06
  save
• 48:06
  the
• 48:06
  life
• 48:06
  of
• 48:07
  this
• 48:07
  kid.
• 48:07
  He
• 48:08
  chooses
• 48:08
  the
• 48:08
  kid.
• 48:09
  Unfortunately,
• 48:09
  the
• 48:10
  kid
• 48:10
  has
• 48:11
  been
• 48:11
  programmed
• 48:11
  to
• 48:11
  become
• 48:12
  a
• 48:12
  serial
• 48:12
  killer.
• 48:13
  He
• 48:13
  didn't
• 48:13
  know
• 48:13
  that.
• 48:13
  And
• 48:14
  now
• 48:14
  that
• 48:14
  kid
• 48:14
  has
• 48:15
  gone
• 48:15
  off
• 48:15
  to
• 48:15
  grow
• 48:15
  up
• 48:15
  and
• 48:15
  kill
• 48:16
  people
• 48:16
  and
• 48:16
  he's
• 48:17
  wrestling
• 48:17
  with.
• 48:18
  Did
• 48:18
  I
• 48:18
  make
• 48:18
  the
• 48:18
  right
• 48:19
  decision?
• 48:19
  What
• 48:20
  can
• 48:20
  I
• 48:20
  do
• 48:20
  now
• 48:20
  to
• 48:20
  stop
• 48:20
  him?
• 48:21
  Do
• 48:21
  I
• 48:21
  break
• 48:21
  my
• 48:21
  Hippocratic
• 48:22
  oath
• 48:22
  and
• 48:22
  kill
• 48:22
  this
• 48:22
  man
• 48:22
  before
• 48:23
  he
• 48:23
  can
• 48:23
  kill
• 48:23
  someone
• 48:23
  else?
• 48:24
  An
• 48:24
  immensely
• 48:25
  great
• 48:25
  psychological
• 48:26
  series
• 48:27
  once
• 48:27
  again
• 48:28
  simply
• 48:28
  titled
• 48:28
  Monster.
• 48:29
  So
• 48:30
  Real
• 48:31
  quick,
• 48:31
  like
• 48:31
  to
• 48:31
  thank
• 48:32
  some
• 48:32
  supporters.
• 48:32
  Real
• 48:32
  quick.
• 48:32
  Thank
• 48:33
  you
• 48:33
  very
• 48:33
  much
• 48:33
  to
• 48:33
  Ethan
• 48:33
  Overcash,
• 48:34
  Austin
• 48:34

  Amber
• 48:35
  Riley,
• 48:35
  Jonathan
• 48:36
  Augustine,

• 48:38
  best.
• 48:39
  But
• 48:39
  remember,
• 48:39
  we're
• 48:40

• 48:40
  chosen
• 48:40
