- 0:12Speaker 1: Oh, hey.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Kratz, Kevin Pillar, Scotty Braun here. Kratz, is that the
- 0:18Speaker 2: famous FT host, Kevin Pillar, who we can see in
- 0:22Speaker 2: person in Milwaukee in a couple days?
- 0:25Speaker 1: I mean, you look like you're from Wisconsin. Like, they're
- 0:28Speaker 1: going to love you there. They're going to love everything
- 0:30Speaker 1: about you.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I mean, I did spend a summer in Wisconsin. Wausau, Wisconsin.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Shout out Wausau Woodchucks in the Northwood League. So, yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 4: it's kind of like a home away from home.
- 0:42Speaker 2: So you'll be able to navigate the whole team around Wisconsin.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I'm talking about FT Live on the road in Milwaukee.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It's for Fox One and their activation, a two-day pop-up experience.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So anyone can go. It's free. You can relive iconic
- 0:58Speaker 2: MLB postseason memories, experience the thrill of watching live on
- 1:02Speaker 2: Fox One, and then you can see a live FT
- 1:05Speaker 2: both on Friday and on Saturday. KP is going to
- 1:07Speaker 2: be with Alana Rizzo hosting and... former Brewer All-Star Corey Knabel,
- 1:13Speaker 2: who is part of the FT fam as well. We're
- 1:15Speaker 2: excited for him to be there. It's at Catalano Square
- 1:17Speaker 2: at the end of Broadway. But if you get confused,
- 1:20Speaker 2: don't worry. Just tweet at Kevin Pillar, and he will
- 1:24Speaker 2: give you directions specifically on wherever you are with his
- 1:27Speaker 2: Wisconsin roots.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, just reach out.
- 1:31Speaker 4: I know Wisconsin like the back of my hand.
- 1:34Speaker 3: You won't get lost, I promise.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I hope you get like 10 tweets from people just
- 1:39Speaker 2: being like, Hey, so I'm on a different Broadway. I'm
- 1:43Speaker 2: going to send you my location on reply. Can you
- 1:46Speaker 2: just reply what I should do here? And then you just,
- 1:48Speaker 2: I don't know, throw it in AI or something and
- 1:50Speaker 2: then send them what to do.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I'll certainly help you out. I'll help you out.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go.
- 1:55Speaker 2: All right, so we're excited for KP, Alana, and Corey
- 1:58Speaker 2: coming up on Friday. That's before game one of the
- 2:01Speaker 2: World Series. Speaking of which, let's charge. And Charge the
- 2:08Speaker 2: Mount is presented by that Fox One app. That's where
- 2:10Speaker 2: you can watch the World Series. Let's talk about game one,
- 2:13Speaker 2: specifically Jacob Mizorowski. KP, he has not looked the same
- 2:17Speaker 2: in the playoffs. We're talking about a couple starts. But
- 2:20Speaker 2: this was the best pitcher in the National League, if
- 2:22Speaker 2: not baseball, him and Cam Schlittler. I'm wearing this shirt today.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But Miz, not getting swing and miss, not able to
- 2:32Speaker 2: put hitters away as quickly, and not giving the team length.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Do you think we will see a different Miz in
- 2:37Speaker 2: the World Series? And what have you observed from these
- 2:40Speaker 2: first couple starts from him?
- 2:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, we're talking about a young guy who
- 2:44Speaker 4: hasn't had an entire season of pitching, especially as a starter.
- 2:47Speaker 4: And you could just tell there's a little bit of
- 2:49Speaker 4: fatigue there, but... On the flip side, I think this
- 2:52Speaker 4: is the biggest difference when you get into the postseason.
- 2:54Speaker 4: You have this idea of a collective approach versus an
- 2:58Speaker 4: individual approach where teams are really, really focused on this
- 3:03Speaker 4: collective plan. How do we beat the pitcher? And a
- 3:05Speaker 4: lot of times, yes, you have that collective plan during
- 3:08Speaker 4: the regular season. But a lot of times it still
- 3:10Speaker 4: comes down to individuals having their individual approach. What pitch
- 3:13Speaker 4: do they want to hit? But when you see a
- 3:15Speaker 4: team collectively understand, hey, this is how we're going to
- 3:19Speaker 4: beat a pitcher. This is how we're going to get
- 3:20Speaker 4: him out of the game. Because ultimately in the postseason,
- 3:22Speaker 4: it's really about getting wins. It doesn't matter what I do.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It doesn't matter what Kratzy does. It matters what team
- 3:28Speaker 4: I'm playing for does. It's about getting wins. So I
- 3:31Speaker 4: think there's a combination, a little bit of him just
- 3:34Speaker 4: being a young guy pitching so deep into the season
- 3:37Speaker 4: for the first time in his career. But I also
- 3:39Speaker 4: think you have to give the offenses that are going
- 3:41Speaker 4: against him a lot of credit for this collective approach
- 3:46Speaker 4: against him.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And moving forward, I would say you're going to probably
- 3:51Speaker 1: see a lot of the same. I know the Rays
- 3:53Speaker 1: struck out a little bit against the Guardians. The Guardians
- 3:56Speaker 1: had really good pitching. But the Rays just don't strike out.
- 3:59Speaker 1: They put the ball in play. So I– In my opinion,
- 4:03Speaker 1: that's what I'm thinking I'm going to see a lot
- 4:05Speaker 1: in the first game is you're going to see balls
- 4:07Speaker 1: put in play, and I think the Miz has to
- 4:08Speaker 1: pitch to that.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Elaborate.
- 4:13Speaker 1: He has to pitch to not just, ooh, what's the
- 4:16Speaker 1: swing and miss pitch that I'm going to? It's got
- 4:19Speaker 1: to be more of that regular season. He's able to
- 4:22Speaker 1: move the ball to the outer half and not get
- 4:25Speaker 1: a lot of damage on that outer half. There's guys
- 4:28Speaker 1: that are going to do damage. You've got to be
- 4:29Speaker 1: able to do both. But it seems like in the season,
- 4:32Speaker 1: and we're looking at a graphic right now, the regular season,
- 4:36Speaker 1: a lot of his pitches are more down and away.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm sorry, up and away. He needs to move out
- 4:43Speaker 1: to that area. You got to be away from hitters
- 4:47Speaker 1: to be able to give them weaker contact. Look, this
- 4:51Speaker 1: is the Cy Young. We're not talking about this guy
- 4:54Speaker 1: needs to revamp everything that he's done. He needs to
- 4:57Speaker 1: be able to get away from teams being able to
- 5:02Speaker 1: continue to make contact with them. And when they're going
- 5:05Speaker 1: to make contact, like a team like the Rays are
- 5:08Speaker 1: going to make contact, you want that contact to be
- 5:10Speaker 1: soft contact and see if they can string three or
- 5:13Speaker 1: four hits together, which most teams can against it.
- 5:16Speaker 4: Yeah, and Crafty, obviously you've caught in the postseason a
- 5:19Speaker 4: little bit.
- 5:19Speaker 3: And you know, you.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Understand that hits come at a premium a little bit
- 5:23Speaker 4: because you're facing everyone's best starters. You're facing the best relievers.
- 5:26Speaker 4: There's not kind of that middle ground. You're not facing
- 5:28Speaker 4: the four or five starter. You're not facing kind of that,
- 5:32Speaker 4: you know, front end of your bullpen. You're getting the
- 5:34Speaker 4: best guys consistently. So do you think there's this element
- 5:37Speaker 4: of where he's pitching away from contact a little bit?
- 5:40Speaker 4: He's trying to strike everyone out. He's also pitching away
- 5:43Speaker 4: from potentially, you know, giving up the single or giving up,
- 5:46Speaker 4: you know, a base hit the other way and really
- 5:48Speaker 4: trying just to avoid damage right here?
- 5:51Speaker 1: I think part of it's a collective– it's collective between
- 5:55Speaker 1: him and William Contreras who's caught every game. And it's
- 5:58Speaker 1: not just Miz. You watch it and you see how
- 6:00Speaker 1: guys are calling games. Yes, there's an aspect in the
- 6:06Speaker 1: postseason where you go, okay, I'm going down this entire
- 6:11Speaker 1: order right here and I'm finding where's the holes. And
- 6:15Speaker 1: you're always able to work to those holes in the
- 6:17Speaker 1: lineup where I think during the regular season you're going– okay,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'm just going to go right after this guy, right
- 6:24Speaker 1: after this guy. It's me versus him, you versus me.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And in the postseason, you always have a base open.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I'm never going to let Junior Caminero beat me. Junior
- 6:35Speaker 1: Caminero beat himself against the Guardians. Yes, I know he
- 6:39Speaker 1: hit a dinger late on a pitch. They get jammed
- 6:42Speaker 1: and he kept it inside. I have no idea how
- 6:44Speaker 1: he did it. But you're making those decisions, so there's
- 6:47Speaker 1: going to be more pitches out of the zone. You're
- 6:48Speaker 1: going to throw more pitches. You can't just have games
- 6:52Speaker 1: like Drew Rasmussen where he's like, one, two, three strikes,
- 6:55Speaker 1: you're out. Or Gavin Williams, one, two, three strikes, you're out.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And he's striking out 19 guys. That's rare in a postseason.
- 7:02Speaker 1: When you're facing a better lineup, which the Miz has
- 7:04Speaker 1: been facing better lineups than the Rays have faced the
- 7:06Speaker 1: entire postseason so far.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Do you think there's also this idea? Let me rephrase this.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Do you think a guy like the Miz who is
- 7:16Speaker 4: so known for striking out, that's the type of pitcher is,
- 7:19Speaker 4: would it be hard for you as his catcher to
- 7:21Speaker 4: be like, hey, look it. The strikeouts are going to come,
- 7:23Speaker 4: but you also have the opportunity with a team like
- 7:26Speaker 4: the Rays who put the ball in play. Let's figure
- 7:29Speaker 4: out where they don't necessarily swing and miss, but let's
- 7:31Speaker 4: figure out where they put the ball in play weekly.
- 7:34Speaker 4: And let's pitch to those areas and see if we can.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Get deeper into a game.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Would it be hard to convince a guy like the
- 7:40Speaker 4: Miz who, like I said, is a strikeout pitcher to
- 7:43Speaker 4: kind of not reinvent who he is. He's the Cy
- 7:45Speaker 4: Young guy, but like, hey, let's try to get a
- 7:47Speaker 4: little bit deeper in this game. Let's pitch to these areas.
- 7:50Speaker 4: We can get easy outs early in the count, maybe
- 7:52Speaker 4: get you into this sixth, seventh, eighth inning. Do you
- 7:55Speaker 4: think that's a conversation you could have with him?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yes, but I've had those conversations already in August. As
- 8:02Speaker 1: a catcher that's been in the playoffs, William Contreras has
- 8:07Speaker 1: success and failure calling games. I'm not saying it was
- 8:10Speaker 1: his fault that they lost other years. I'm saying that
- 8:12Speaker 1: it was success and failures understanding how to navigate lineups
- 8:16Speaker 1: in the postseason. So you're talking about that. Hey, you
- 8:19Speaker 1: know what? When we face these guys, When we face
- 8:21Speaker 1: this type of guy, this is what we need to
- 8:23Speaker 1: do during the playoffs because it can just be a–
- 8:26Speaker 1: it's a tick difference. We're not changing who he is.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It's just a little bit different, but it can't just be, oh,
- 8:33Speaker 1: it's October. Now we got to change. No, hey, this
- 8:35Speaker 1: is how we're going to attack guys. You saw it
- 8:37Speaker 1: in the last game. He went– Two pitches, I think,
- 8:42Speaker 1: the first two times through the lineup. It was a
- 8:44Speaker 1: concerted effort that wasn't going very well. He was one pitch,
- 8:48Speaker 1: one ground ball double play away from coming out in
- 8:51Speaker 1: the second inning of that game against the Dodgers. He
- 8:53Speaker 1: got the ground ball double play, and he was able
- 8:55Speaker 1: to last, I think, four innings, if I'm not mistaken.
- 8:59Speaker 1: And I don't think it worked, and I think they
- 9:01Speaker 1: need to go back to the drawing board with another
- 9:04Speaker 1: lineup that is a different animal than what the Dodgers were.
- 9:08Speaker 2: This is where context is important, too. Brazilian Bronco in
- 9:13Speaker 2: the chat said, you guys are acting like he gave
- 9:15Speaker 2: up nine runs. He gave up three runs in eight
- 9:18Speaker 2: and a third and mentioned the teams that he went
- 9:22Speaker 2: up against, the Padres and the Dodgers, and actually took
- 9:25Speaker 2: a shot at the American League side saying he didn't
- 9:28Speaker 2: face Cleveland.
- 9:29Speaker 1: All fair.
- 9:31Speaker 2: The part that I think is not fair is, okay,
- 9:35Speaker 2: eight and a third, three runs over two starts from
- 9:38Speaker 2: the Cy Young winner. I mean, I'd like a little
- 9:40Speaker 2: more length out of that. And also context matters here, Kratz.
- 9:43Speaker 2: We're talking about what we see in the game. Like
- 9:45Speaker 2: you mentioned, there was a chance he wasn't going to
- 9:46Speaker 2: make it through the second inning. So we're just trying
- 9:49Speaker 2: to say, will we see a more 2026 regular season
- 9:53Speaker 2: version of the Miz? Or is he tired? Or is
- 9:57Speaker 2: he not executing the same way? Or do teams have
- 9:59Speaker 2: a better? game plan against him right now? And we'll
- 10:02Speaker 2: mix in some charts too, to show how many balls
- 10:03Speaker 2: have been fouled off. And also I think it's important
- 10:06Speaker 2: to show pitch location here as well, which we'll get
- 10:10Speaker 2: to for this four seam fastball, but let's start with
- 10:12Speaker 2: the foul balls.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I mean, there's a.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Lot of foul balls. I mean, and that's, yeah, Once again,
- 10:17Speaker 4: that comes down to just having a good plan. You know,
- 10:19Speaker 4: you could tell, it looks like righties are trying to
- 10:22Speaker 4: get the ball a little bit closer. I mean, obviously
- 10:24Speaker 4: both hitters are here, but I would imagine righties are
- 10:26Speaker 4: trying to get the ball a little bit closer to
- 10:28Speaker 4: kind of eliminate that swing down and away, trying to
- 10:30Speaker 4: do a little bit more damage.
- 10:31Speaker 3: They're willing to chase in a little bit more.
- 10:34Speaker 4: That comes down to a collective approach, and that's also
- 10:36Speaker 4: how you kind of wear down a pitcher, especially one
- 10:39Speaker 4: as good as the Miz, who is so used to
- 10:41Speaker 4: getting swing and miss. There's no better way to frustrate
- 10:44Speaker 4: a strikeout pitcher than consistently fouling pitches off getting his
- 10:48Speaker 4: pitch count up you know making it a little bit
- 10:51Speaker 4: tougher you know on your manager your pitching coach to
- 10:54Speaker 4: allow this guy to go deeper into a game once
- 10:56Speaker 4: again we're also talking about a guy who hasn't you
- 10:59Speaker 4: know thrown 200 innings in his career he's getting a
- 11:01Speaker 4: lot deeper into the season deeper than he's ever been
- 11:04Speaker 4: before so there is going to be some natural you
- 11:07Speaker 4: know wear and tear and obviously he's the future of
- 11:09Speaker 4: this organization um you don't necessarily want to put him
- 11:13Speaker 4: in harm's way. You're going to need him for two,
- 11:16Speaker 4: maybe three starts in the World Series. So the best
- 11:20Speaker 4: way you can kind of get under a guy's skin
- 11:23Speaker 4: is just consistently foul balls off against him and get
- 11:26Speaker 4: his pitch count up.
- 11:28Speaker 1: All right, I want to make sure KP is on
- 11:29Speaker 1: the screen at the same time I say this. Okay,
- 11:32Speaker 1: first of all, 54% of his pitches have been fouled
- 11:35Speaker 1: off is a crazy number. But KP... Can you foul
- 11:40Speaker 1: balls off? Can you practice and say, you know what,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm going to foul a few balls off in a
- 11:45Speaker 1: big league game? No, no.
- 11:48Speaker 4: You can't say you're going to foul him off. You
- 11:50Speaker 4: can definitely kind of change your approach where I'm going
- 11:53Speaker 4: to be a little bit shorter. I know that I'm
- 11:54Speaker 4: not trying to do damage on these pitches. I'm playing
- 11:57Speaker 4: a little bit more, you know, almost like cricket. I'm
- 12:00Speaker 4: trying to protect home plate as opposed to trying to
- 12:03Speaker 4: advance the ball or trying to hit the ball in
- 12:05Speaker 4: the gap. But you can't say, hey, I'm going to
- 12:07Speaker 4: foul this pitch off here. I'm going to foul this
- 12:09Speaker 4: pitch off here. It's just a change of thought process. And,
- 12:13Speaker 4: you know, I forgot who it was who had that
- 12:16Speaker 4: really kind of late with Tampa. He had that really
- 12:18Speaker 4: late swing where it was like super defensive and he
- 12:21Speaker 4: fouled it off. A swing like that, yeah, you can
- 12:24Speaker 4: definitely try to foul a pitch off. But no, it's
- 12:28Speaker 4: not something you could work on. It's just a different mindset.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And KP, in all the playoff games, do you know
- 12:35Speaker 1: what your batting average was in the playoffs?
- 12:38Speaker 3: It wasn't that good.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I could tell you it was probably sub 200.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Did you know what it was when you were playing
- 12:45Speaker 1: in those games? Did you know what you were hitting?
- 12:49Speaker 1: Nobody knows what they're hitting in the playoffs. That's why
- 12:51Speaker 1: you get at-bats like this. That's why you get approaches
- 12:54Speaker 1: like this because guys are not worried about their numbers.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Should they be worried about their numbers in the season?
- 13:00Speaker 3: No.
- 13:01Speaker 1: It is so impossible to have the same mindset and
- 13:05Speaker 1: I've lived it. I've seen it. I've watched guys, but
- 13:10Speaker 1: you are okay trying to make that pitcher work, just
- 13:14Speaker 1: whatever you do to stay alive, and that creates a
- 13:17Speaker 1: foul ball. They would love to just take whatever pitch
- 13:20Speaker 1: the Miz throws them and drive it out of the ballpark.
- 13:24Speaker 1: During the season, guys just can't or don't have that
- 13:29Speaker 1: same level of grind. When guys do have that, those
- 13:32Speaker 1: are the guys that you're like, wow, that is such
- 13:35Speaker 1: an impressive, you know, unashamed, unapologetic approach. Because that's why
- 13:40Speaker 1: we see all these longer at-bats during the postseason. That's
- 13:43Speaker 1: why we see guys really pushing it and pushing the limits.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Hitters do not know what their batting average. I've never
- 13:50Speaker 1: met a hitter who's like, we won game one of
- 13:53Speaker 1: the World Series, but I was 0 for 4. This sucks. No,
- 13:57Speaker 1: they're like, we won. I don't even remember what I was.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I know I hit a ball to the right side
- 14:01Speaker 1: that helped move the guy to third that we ended
- 14:04Speaker 1: up scoring. We won three to two. That's what you remember,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and that's the difference. And Miz and William Contreras and Hookie,
- 14:12Speaker 1: their pitching coach, all have to make that adjustment on
- 14:15Speaker 1: how they attack certain types of hitters.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point. We didn't win that playoff series,
- 14:21Speaker 2: but I was three for nine, so I hit. 333.
- 14:25Speaker 2: in that playoff series said nobody.
- 14:27Speaker 4: No i mean i could i could tell you like
- 14:29Speaker 4: much like kratzy totally lived experience too like i've had
- 14:33Speaker 4: postseason games where i've been over and our teams won
- 14:36Speaker 4: and it doesn't matter and i've also had games where
- 14:39Speaker 4: i've had four hits in a postseason game we lost
- 14:41Speaker 4: and you're always thinking man i wish i could have
- 14:43Speaker 4: done more to help the team there's there's no like
- 14:45Speaker 4: It doesn't feel good. It doesn't feel good to have
- 14:47Speaker 4: four hits and a losing effort in a postseason game.
- 14:50Speaker 4: And it certainly doesn't suck to go 0-4 when you win.
- 14:53Speaker 4: So I think this is just– I think this really
- 14:56Speaker 4: just sums down to like, yes, to answer that guy's question.
- 15:00Speaker 4: We're splitting hairs here. Obviously the Miz is the best
- 15:04Speaker 4: pitcher in the world, one of the best pitchers in
- 15:06Speaker 4: the world. We're talking about how could he just make
- 15:09Speaker 4: these subtle adjustments to give his team the best opportunity to–
- 15:13Speaker 4: Allow him to pitch deeper in the game. And a
- 15:16Speaker 4: lot of this comes down to it's not necessarily things
- 15:18Speaker 4: that he has to do different.
- 15:19Speaker 3: It's what the offenses are doing to them. And this is.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Baseball is one of the only sports and maybe hockey.
- 15:25Speaker 4: The hitting changes a little bit. But in terms of strategy,
- 15:29Speaker 4: baseball is played two completely different games. The game in
- 15:32Speaker 4: the regular season, the game in the postseason, the game
- 15:34Speaker 4: in the individual season. or in the regular season is
- 15:36Speaker 4: about trying to win the game, but there's an individual
- 15:40Speaker 4: aspect to it. Like I am an individual contractor. I
- 15:43Speaker 4: have to go out and perform. I got to do X, Y,
- 15:45Speaker 4: and Z to be able to get a contract next year,
- 15:47Speaker 4: to stay on this team, to keep my job in.
- 15:50Speaker 3: The post season.
- 15:50Speaker 4: It's really all about winning. How can I help my
- 15:53Speaker 4: team win? And that's why it's the best version of
- 15:56Speaker 4: baseball to watch in my opinion.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And with the last 30 seconds here, David Adler, by
- 16:01Speaker 2: the way, from stack has put some of these charts
- 16:03Speaker 2: and grids together and posted them. I mean, you can
- 16:07Speaker 2: find these pretty easily, but the heat map here too
- 16:09Speaker 2: for Miz and his four-seamer. The one on the left
- 16:13Speaker 2: was the regular season four-seamer to right-handed hitters. The one
- 16:16Speaker 2: on the right is where it's going in the postseason.
- 16:21Speaker 1: He's throwing it in more. He's always going to be elevated.
- 16:24Speaker 1: There's no way this guy's ever going to be down
- 16:25Speaker 1: and away fastball. So sorry, all you old school pitchers.
- 16:29Speaker 1: He's always going to be elevated. To me, that pitch
- 16:32Speaker 1: away is where he's going to get weaker contact for
- 16:36Speaker 1: the majority of the Rays lineup. Obviously, you can't do
- 16:40Speaker 1: that to Yandy. Yandy will take that, John, deep right
- 16:43Speaker 1: center because that's where he wants that ball. So it's
- 16:46Speaker 1: not one size fits all, and he's still a good pitcher.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Good talk.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Can't wait for game one. Much, much more to cover
- 16:55Speaker 2: with the World Series. MLB on Fox is streaming on
- 17:00Speaker 2: Fox One with that World Series firing up on Friday.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Now's the time. If you don't have it at home
- 17:06Speaker 2: or on the go live or on demand, never miss
- 17:07Speaker 2: a moment stream. Now start your Fox one three day
- 17:10Speaker 2: free trial today at foxone.com. It's a world series of
- 17:15Speaker 2: different flavors over the last couple of years, 2025. We
- 17:19Speaker 2: had 22 players making more than $ 12 million. This tweet
- 17:22Speaker 2: from Dan Danny by Eddie. And then in 2026, that's
- 17:26Speaker 2: this year. It's just Christian Yelich and Brandon Woodruff, the
- 17:29Speaker 2: big money brewers with their two highly paid, uh, Vets, Kratts,
- 17:35Speaker 2: one of which might not even pitch. We'll get to
- 17:37Speaker 2: that later. And then Captain Yellich. But yeah, a little
- 17:40Speaker 2: bit of a difference. Variety, the spice of life.
- 17:44Speaker 1: It is definitely a spice of life. And it's also
- 17:46Speaker 1: the fact that these are the best teams and they
- 17:48Speaker 1: created differently. I was trying to look at see what
- 17:51Speaker 1: I want to see with Freddy Peralta. I'm not saying
- 17:53Speaker 1: I got it wrong. I want to see what he
- 17:54Speaker 1: was making in his last year of his contract. Only
- 17:58Speaker 1: eight million.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Team friendly deal that he signed a while back. Do
- 18:02Speaker 2: you remember the text I sent you to from a
- 18:03Speaker 2: couple hours ago where the Brewers lead all of baseball
- 18:07Speaker 2: in their scouting department? That was, I mean, I read
- 18:10Speaker 2: that in Jeff Passon's ESPN article. I was just catching
- 18:13Speaker 2: up on some reading. They had the, they had the
- 18:15Speaker 2: most manpower per people power in that department.
- 18:19Speaker 1: So we're international telling you're talking about.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Are you telling me you're able to get to the
- 18:26Speaker 4: world series without spending a ton of money? Or creating
- 18:30Speaker 4: your roster differently? Does that mean everyone can do what
- 18:35Speaker 4: the Brewers and Rays are doing?
- 18:37Speaker 1: No. Everybody else has an unfair advantage.
- 18:41Speaker 2: We're not allowed to talk about this, KP. This is
- 18:44Speaker 2: an aberration. This only is happening one time. But really,
- 18:48Speaker 2: there's no hope. They have no chance. It's not fair.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I read an article. I read an article by a
- 18:53Speaker 1: guy just on Twitter. His conspiracy was that all the
- 18:57Speaker 1: stars in the league through the season– because this looks
- 19:01Speaker 1: better for no salary cap. So all the best players
- 19:07Speaker 1: through the season so that the Rays and the Brewers
- 19:11Speaker 1: made it to the postseason so that there would be
- 19:13Speaker 1: no salary cap.
- 19:14Speaker 3: Good for those guys, man.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I love conspiracy theories.
- 19:17Speaker 2: It's like synchronized swimming, right? They all do the same
- 19:20Speaker 2: things to get just enough of competitiveness with strikeouts if
- 19:26Speaker 2: you're a position player. Go for balls if you're a pitcher.
- 19:29Speaker 4: So all those guys on the Dodgers just decided like, hey,
- 19:32Speaker 4: let's not try.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yep. Right.
- 19:35Speaker 2: They were like, let's go 4-0 with an Otani home
- 19:37Speaker 2: run and then give it up in game four.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Cooper Pratt was like, I'm going to combat that and
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm going to make three errors being one of the
- 19:45Speaker 1: better defenders in the game. I'm going to make three errors.
- 19:47Speaker 1: So you all-stars. So you big time. players can't put
- 19:51Speaker 1: us in the World Series. That is totally, all that
- 19:53Speaker 1: stuff was happening. We can't clip any of this because
- 19:56Speaker 1: people are going to think it's serious.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Hey, did you guys see this? The Astros are still
- 20:02Speaker 2: working on who their GM is going to be and
- 20:04Speaker 2: they're deep in the process, but they're hiring Spencer Medic
- 20:07Speaker 2: as their new director of pitching. He's a former driveline employee,
- 20:11Speaker 2: worked in the Yankees system the past four years, spent
- 20:12Speaker 2: last season as their AAA pitching coach. So he's not
- 20:15Speaker 2: the pitching coach, but he's leading the pitching program, essentially, Kratz,
- 20:18Speaker 2: and you were a former Astro. The only thing that
- 20:21Speaker 2: stands out to me, I mean, I don't know the guy.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Why are you doing this before the GM? Shouldn't you
- 20:25Speaker 2: get the GM in there first?
- 20:27Speaker 1: Hey, who's my boss going to be when I get
- 20:30Speaker 1: this job? Like, don't you worry about it. It's me.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'm Jim Crane.
- 20:37Speaker 2: It's like, what if my boss hates me? Don't worry,
- 20:39Speaker 2: I like you. And hey, we're not making fun of
- 20:40Speaker 2: Jim Crane because I think, Kratz, you and I both
- 20:42Speaker 2: are great. Jim Crane knows ball. He's one of the
- 20:44Speaker 2: smartest owners baseball-wise in the sport by far. I don't
- 20:48Speaker 2: even think there's a few and then there's a huge gap, right?
- 20:51Speaker 2: There's a few guys that really know ball. He's one
- 20:53Speaker 2: of them. It's just, hey, hire your GM and then
- 20:56Speaker 2: you can do this.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I wonder if Jim does it in his other businesses.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Super successful. I loved actually the little bit I was
- 21:03Speaker 1: there talking to him about business and how he created culture.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I wonder if he does that in his other businesses.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I think this one more because it's fun and he
- 21:12Speaker 2: knows ball. Didn't he play college ball? I think he did.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I think he did.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I just can't imagine.
- 21:20Speaker 4: And look, there's going to be people out there that
- 21:22Speaker 4: want to be a GM regardless, but I feel like
- 21:25Speaker 4: you're limiting that pool of talent. you know, really qualified candidates.
- 21:29Speaker 4: If you don't really feel like you have, you might
- 21:32Speaker 4: have the GM title, but you don't necessarily have the responsibility.
- 21:35Speaker 4: So I think it's going to be a tough hire.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Someone's ultimately going to take the job because there's only
- 21:39Speaker 4: 30 of those jobs in the world, but trying to
- 21:43Speaker 4: get the best qualified person for someone who's going to
- 21:45Speaker 4: just be a yes man might be a tough sell.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Let's shake it up. The trade deadline is very important
- 21:58Speaker 2: in the foul territory network world. It's very important in
- 22:01Speaker 2: the social media sphere, the fan interest sphere. And I
- 22:06Speaker 2: think this time of year is where we need to
- 22:08Speaker 2: emphasize why we spend so much time breaking down trades
- 22:12Speaker 2: and in the offseason signings, whatever. But I want to
- 22:14Speaker 2: talk about trade specifically here, KP, and I'll cue you
- 22:18Speaker 2: with Sarah Lang's putting this tweet out there. And there
- 22:21Speaker 2: are plenty of moves that have been made just now
- 22:23Speaker 2: by these teams specific. I mean, both of them made
- 22:25Speaker 2: some nice moves, but like Freddie Peralta to the race,
- 22:28Speaker 2: that's probably the best move we saw.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:30Speaker 2: And so here are your postseason MVPs acquired midseason by year.
- 22:36Speaker 2: And so there are a ton in the 21st century here,
- 22:39Speaker 2: a ton.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Freddie P this year, LCS MVP, 24 was Tommy Edmunds.
- 22:44Speaker 2: nlcs mvp i won't go through the whole list but
- 22:46Speaker 2: i'll give you a few because i know there's a
- 22:47Speaker 2: listening crowd to this jorge soler world series mvp in
- 22:50Speaker 2: 21 eddie rosario nlcs mvp in 21 2018 at steve
- 22:54Speaker 2: pierce world series mvp 17 verlander in the cs uh
- 22:59Speaker 2: cs for andrew miller the year before that and on
- 23:02Speaker 2: and on we go so kp newsflash the trade deadline
- 23:06Speaker 2: is a big deal and actually for a team that
- 23:08Speaker 2: you played with not too long ago jordan montgomery was
- 23:11Speaker 2: a Pretty hefty acquisition by the Rangers. Didn't win an
- 23:14Speaker 2: MVP in the World Series or the CS, but I
- 23:17Speaker 2: bring that one up a lot too because the Diamondbacks
- 23:19Speaker 2: were going for him and so were the Rangers, and
- 23:21Speaker 2: the Rangers got him.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I mean he certainly could have made an argument.
- 23:24Speaker 4: I mean obviously Corey Seager went out and did what
- 23:26Speaker 4: he did, but Jordan Montgomery was probably their most important
- 23:29Speaker 4: pitcher during that time. But this just really emphasizes– you know,
- 23:35Speaker 4: teams that are willing to potentially sacrifice, you know, a
- 23:38Speaker 4: couple of prospects that are unproven that may end up
- 23:41Speaker 4: being great players, you know, for the immediate future.
- 23:44Speaker 3: And when you see a list.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Like this, it just, and seeing a guy like Freddie Peralta,
- 23:49Speaker 4: you know, raise that trophy just kind of, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 4: reemphasizes the importance of, you know, potentially selling some of
- 23:56Speaker 4: your future for the right now. And it's great for
- 23:58Speaker 4: teams like the Rays that are willing to part with
- 24:02Speaker 4: some of the future for, immediate success. And then Freddie Peralta, damn,
- 24:08Speaker 4: was he good in that postseason series, man. And this
- 24:11Speaker 4: is a guy who wasn't pitching great with the Mets,
- 24:13Speaker 4: you know, and he didn't necessarily have the best, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 4: regular season even with the Rays. But you know a
- 24:19Speaker 4: guy like this is capable of turning it on the postseason,
- 24:22Speaker 4: pitching it in that moment. He has experience and ended
- 24:26Speaker 4: up being a great trade for the Rays.
- 24:29Speaker 1: You know why that tweet didn't have any other people
- 24:32Speaker 1: on that list, like the people that they traded for him?
- 24:34Speaker 1: Not that they didn't make any impact, just you're not
- 24:37Speaker 1: giving up mega stars for these guys that are on
- 24:40Speaker 1: this list. You're not giving up your number one prospect
- 24:44Speaker 1: in your organization for the guys on this list. It's
- 24:47Speaker 1: just little things around the edges that help each team
- 24:52Speaker 1: improve for the ultimate goal of winning a World Series.
- 24:57Speaker 2: That's true. I mean, the ALCS featured the Guardians and Rays.
- 25:02Speaker 2: We spoke about Freddie Pee. And Liam Hicks has been
- 25:05Speaker 2: helpful too. So has Tyler Wells. Joe Adele? Joe Adele,
- 25:11Speaker 2: huge help. Foster Griffin, big help. Nate Lowe, huge help.
- 25:16Speaker 2: And there was one other on that list, right? There's
- 25:21Speaker 2: one other.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Like you said, I mean, you could look at this list.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Patrick Bailey, which was not deadline. Patrick Bailey, I just
- 25:25Speaker 2: wanted to get that out there.
- 25:26Speaker 3: But yeah, still a trait.
- 25:27Speaker 4: But you're looking at this list, and like you said,
- 25:29Speaker 4: I mean, obviously– You know, Verlander, you probably gave up
- 25:32Speaker 4: a little bit more, you know, but a lot of
- 25:34Speaker 4: these guys, Andrew Miller potentially, but you're looking at a
- 25:37Speaker 4: lot of these guys and, you know, Freddie Peralta obviously
- 25:41Speaker 4: has the capability of being a one or two in
- 25:42Speaker 4: a rotation, but you're looking like to Cratchit's point, these
- 25:46Speaker 4: are just, you're sprinkling players, veteran players onto teams that
- 25:50Speaker 4: already have good rosters that are probably.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Already going to the postseason.
- 25:53Speaker 4: You're just, you're adding something else that your team might,
- 25:57Speaker 4: need or might be missing or maybe they just have
- 25:59Speaker 4: the the postseason experience and you're not giving up a
- 26:02Speaker 4: ton for them and sometimes you have to kind of
- 26:04Speaker 4: just bring in one of these guys and um this
- 26:07Speaker 4: this this is what you're supposed to do if you're
- 26:09Speaker 4: trying to.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Win 100 anyone else come to mind.
- 26:15Speaker 1: As far as trades that like teams.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Yeah, impactful dudes.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I mean, I could just talk about my own experience.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Obviously, in 2015, we got Troy Tulewitzki and David Price.
- 26:28Speaker 4: And obviously, those are your big ticket names. But we
- 26:30Speaker 4: also went out and acquired Ben Revere, who was our
- 26:33Speaker 4: starting left fielder. Mark Lowe, who became kind of our
- 26:35Speaker 4: fireman in the bullpen. Latroy Hawkins. These were kind of.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Those under-the-radar moves.
- 26:41Speaker 4: We as the media love to talk about a lot
- 26:44Speaker 4: of these big names being moved, but a lot of
- 26:46Speaker 4: times look at this list of players. A lot of
- 26:48Speaker 4: these are your, you know, your mid tier players, your, um,
- 26:53Speaker 4: platoon players, your, um, you know, not your superstar type
- 26:57Speaker 4: of players that really end up making a huge difference
- 27:00Speaker 4: in your team, you know, advancing in a post-season series, um,
- 27:05Speaker 4: But yeah, I think about some of those names that
- 27:07Speaker 4: were not the biggest names in my career on trade
- 27:11Speaker 4: deadline that made some of the biggest impacts.
- 27:14Speaker 1: And we talked about it earlier in the show about
- 27:16Speaker 1: how it's not necessarily how you approach a lineup the
- 27:20Speaker 1: same way as you do in the postseason as you
- 27:24Speaker 1: do in the regular season. Look at the names as
- 27:26Speaker 1: far as position players go. These are rarely guys that
- 27:31Speaker 1: are middle-of-the-order impact bats. Solaire is obviously going to hit
- 27:36Speaker 1: in the middle of the order because he has power.
- 27:39Speaker 1: But in no way are you mortgaging the farm for
- 27:41Speaker 1: a guy who came from the Kansas City Royals and
- 27:45Speaker 1: hit his 40 homers and then has a down year. No,
- 27:48Speaker 1: you're not mortgaging the farm for that. I think about
- 27:50Speaker 1: the guys that we picked up in 18 with the Brewers.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Mike Moustakis. Jonathan Scope. Scoper barely even played. He got
- 27:59Speaker 1: about a 15 at-bat runway, and it didn't work out.
- 28:03Speaker 1: He was kind of a bench piece for us. Moose
- 28:05Speaker 1: had a walk-off hit in the Game 1 of the
- 28:12Speaker 1: NLDS against the Rockies.
- 28:14Speaker 3: 2017.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Todd Frazier. Todd Frazier was the lockdown third baseman who
- 28:20Speaker 1: was walking just as much as he was striking out.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Created a stable spot at third base when they were
- 28:30Speaker 1: kind of moving in and out different guys for the
- 28:33Speaker 1: New York Yankees. There's names that get moved, and it's
- 28:38Speaker 1: to improve your team. Even if you improve your team
- 28:41Speaker 1: just a tick, and it doesn't have to be that, oh, well,
- 28:45Speaker 1: you know who we need to pick up at the
- 28:46Speaker 1: trade deadline? We need to pick up Aaron Judge. Well,
- 28:49Speaker 1: how is that? Okay, okay, fine. Shohei Ohtani. That's fine.
- 28:52Speaker 1: That's not how the trade deadline works, but it doesn't
- 28:55Speaker 1: mean you go, if we can't get Aaron Judge, we
- 28:58Speaker 1: are not doing anything in the trade deadline. It's the
- 29:01Speaker 1: little things, it's the little moves that help your team
- 29:05Speaker 1: improve just that little bit. And then in the postseason,
- 29:08Speaker 1: you might get 15 at-bats in a series. You might
- 29:11Speaker 1: go six for 15 and win the NLCS MVP.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Hi, Max the Bald Eagle from Marathon here. We asked
- 29:17Speaker 2: people if they could do an impression of me.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Have a listen.
- 29:32Speaker 2: You can save up to a dollar a gallon with
- 29:33Speaker 2: the Marathon Rewards app.
- 29:37Speaker 1: That last one was pretty good. Marathon, we're fun, right?
- 29:40Speaker 2: On full. Available at participating Marathon locations. Terms and conditions apply.
- 29:43Speaker 3: See MarathonRewards.com for details.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and playing to KP's story, because I studied this
- 29:49Speaker 2: story pretty closely. Alex Anthopoulos, I think it was the
- 29:52Speaker 2: year before, did not do much. And Jose Bautista called
- 29:55Speaker 2: them out, right? Flip it one year later and they
- 29:58Speaker 2: acquired two stars. Now, the Blue Jays didn't end up
- 30:00Speaker 2: winning the World Series, but I think it changed the
- 30:02Speaker 2: organization and the way that the city looked at the
- 30:05Speaker 2: team and the org. And even now, I think there's
- 30:07Speaker 2: still ripple effects from Price, Tullo, and that whole team.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Fast forward one more time here. This part's important. Alex
- 30:14Speaker 2: Anthopoulos takes over the Braves. And in 2021, you're right.
- 30:17Speaker 2: It's not the biggest superstars, but it's really solid. you know,
- 30:21Speaker 2: impact players, right? Eddie Rosario and Jorge Soler, among others,
- 30:25Speaker 2: Jock Peterson. He made, right, four big trades, remade his
- 30:30Speaker 2: outfield and some DH to it. And that's what helped
- 30:33Speaker 2: them win the World Series in 2021. So what Alex
- 30:36Speaker 2: did really, in my mind, KP, Jose Bautista calling out
- 30:40Speaker 2: Alex in whatever, what was that, 2014 when he called
- 30:44Speaker 2: him out?
- 30:45Speaker 1: I lived it.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I think that helped the Braves win a World Series
- 30:48Speaker 2: because Alex realized, I need to show this team that
- 30:51Speaker 2: I mean business. This is my one time to make
- 30:54Speaker 2: a stamp each year for this team.
- 30:57Speaker 4: Well, equally as important as getting good players onto your
- 31:00Speaker 4: roster and maybe filling the holes, the confidence that comes
- 31:04Speaker 4: from your general manager going out And potentially, I keep
- 31:08Speaker 4: referring to selling the future because that's what the prospects are.
- 31:11Speaker 4: They're your future. But when you are in that clubhouse,
- 31:15Speaker 4: you don't care about the future. You care about the
- 31:17Speaker 4: right now. And when you have a general manager willing
- 31:20Speaker 4: to go out and acquire players to help your team
- 31:23Speaker 4: right now be the best team that they can be,
- 31:27Speaker 4: There's no better boast of confidence in a clubhouse at
- 31:30Speaker 4: the trade deadline when you, whether it's one piece or
- 31:33Speaker 4: two pieces or five pieces, but.
- 31:34Speaker 3: When you feel like, hey, we believe in.
- 31:37Speaker 4: This group of guys in here, we're going to improve
- 31:38Speaker 4: this roster and we're going to go try to win
- 31:40Speaker 4: a World Series. Nothing lights a fire under your butt
- 31:43Speaker 4: more than that. In my experience of being in clubhouses,
- 31:46Speaker 4: when a team goes for it, there's not a better feeling.
- 31:50Speaker 4: You go out and you want to prove him right.
- 31:52Speaker 4: And you want to play for him. And you play
- 31:54Speaker 4: for each other.
- 31:55Speaker 3: And if it works out, it works out. If it
- 31:56Speaker 3: doesn't work out, at.
- 31:57Speaker 4: Least you know that your front office believed in you
- 32:01Speaker 4: enough to go for it.
- 32:03Speaker 1: KP and I lived 14 together. And KP lived 14
- 32:07Speaker 1: and 15 staying around. So he saw both sides of it.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I got traded at the trade deadline for Danny Valencia.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And he was a 290-300 hitter from Kansas City who
- 32:17Speaker 1: had some, you know, maybe teammate issues. But it was
- 32:21Speaker 1: a 300 hitter that they picked up. And I think
- 32:23Speaker 1: Alex's view from talking to him when I got traded,
- 32:29Speaker 1: it was very much a view of, I trust this team.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I want to show this team that I trust. I
- 32:34Speaker 1: trust these guys. And it was viewed more as, I
- 32:39Speaker 1: don't think I can, you know, he doesn't believe in us,
- 32:41Speaker 1: so he didn't go out and get anybody. He flipped
- 32:44Speaker 1: that then in 15 and got that next, got that,
- 32:49Speaker 1: the best available guy, ironically, in 14 was David Price,
- 32:53Speaker 1: who went to the Tigers, and then the next year
- 32:56Speaker 1: he goes to the Blue Jays. Like, he went and
- 32:59Speaker 1: did it. He went and sufficed the players because he
- 33:02Speaker 1: figured out what the players wanted and needed in that clubhouse.
- 33:07Speaker 2: And it worked. And hey, Braves fans, you have a
- 33:09Speaker 2: 2021 title from some of the learning process with Alex
- 33:12Speaker 2: Anthopoulos over the years. Hey, all right. So we're going
- 33:18Speaker 2: to do it this way for SeatGeek. And the question is,
- 33:22Speaker 2: you get one World Series game to go to. And
- 33:26Speaker 2: you can be a neutral fan because if you're a
- 33:28Speaker 2: fan of the Rays or the Brewers, you're going to
- 33:29Speaker 2: go to one of the home games. Which game would
- 33:32Speaker 2: you like to go to, KP? Do you want to
- 33:34Speaker 2: go to game one that's got the marquee set up
- 33:36Speaker 2: pitching matchup and the team's all rested and ready? Or
- 33:39Speaker 2: do you want to go deeper into the series?
- 33:42Speaker 4: Game one is the easy choice because people in Milwaukee
- 33:47Speaker 4: have been waiting a long time for this, the pitching matchup.
- 33:49Speaker 3: But that's not the game I'm going to choose.
- 33:50Speaker 4: The game I'm going to choose, and I'm kind of
- 33:53Speaker 4: throwing a dart up against the board hoping it sticks,
- 33:56Speaker 4: but I think this is going six games and I'm
- 33:59Speaker 4: choosing to go to game six because.
- 34:00Speaker 3: We're going to crown a first time champion.
- 34:02Speaker 4: And I'm a baseball historian to see one of these
- 34:05Speaker 4: franchises win a world series for the first time.
- 34:07Speaker 3: That's where I'm going. Game six.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I too live dangerously. And I was going to game
- 34:13Speaker 1: six and I am totally fine with not making it
- 34:17Speaker 1: because I've been to world series games. So I'm sitting
- 34:20Speaker 1: in a different boat. I think if you've never been
- 34:22Speaker 1: to a world series game, you got to go to
- 34:24Speaker 1: game one or two. Not that you're a Brewers fan
- 34:28Speaker 1: or whatever. Just to see that environment, to see that intensity.
- 34:33Speaker 1: If you've never been, you've got to go to one
- 34:36Speaker 1: of those games. I get it. If you're in Florida,
- 34:38Speaker 1: wait until game three or four. But I think Milwaukee
- 34:42Speaker 1: is a much better place to watch a game. I
- 34:44Speaker 1: heard from my wife's aunt and uncle that Tampa was rocking.
- 34:50Speaker 1: They were at game six when they clinched it.
- 34:53Speaker 3: But.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I have a hard time believing it was rocking more
- 34:56Speaker 1: than Milwaukee. So St. Pete, prove me wrong.
- 35:02Speaker 2: See, I'm torn here because I like to live dangerously,
- 35:04Speaker 2: but I would want to go to a game seven,
- 35:07Speaker 2: yet I don't know if there will be one. And
- 35:10Speaker 2: most series don't have a game seven. So maybe I'll
- 35:13Speaker 2: pick something in between. So we've got two, three, or
- 35:16Speaker 2: we've got three, four, five. Yeah, I'll do a sixer.
- 35:18Speaker 2: I'll do a sixer.
- 35:20Speaker 1: I think one.
- 35:20Speaker 3: We're all going to be at the same game.
- 35:22Speaker 1: We're all going to be there. Yeah, I'm joining you guys.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Well, I'm just nervous. I mean, there's, there's a chance
- 35:27Speaker 2: we don't have a six either, but a seven is
- 35:29Speaker 2: really pushing it. So I don't want to miss out
- 35:32Speaker 2: on a game, even though, yes, I've been to games too.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I feel like the risk is worth it. Whatever the
- 35:36Speaker 2: percentage chance to get to a six back in Milwaukee,
- 35:39Speaker 2: but a seven. And then if we go to a
- 35:42Speaker 2: six and we end up with a seven, I'm going
- 35:44Speaker 2: to regret my choice that I didn't just go for it.
- 35:46Speaker 2: But I don't know. A lot of people think it's
- 35:49Speaker 2: going to be a quick series. I don't, I think,
- 35:51Speaker 2: I think we've got six in us.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Here's the code.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Territory Tennis, the same one all season. And you don't
- 35:57Speaker 2: have to just use it on World Series tickets. You
- 35:58Speaker 2: can use it on any tickets on SeatGeek. Make sure
- 36:01Speaker 2: you click the link in the description of the episode.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Download the app. Green is good. Red, not as great
- 36:07Speaker 2: for recommendations in the app. We have FT breaking news.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Jeff Fletcher reporting that the Angels are not allowing Kurt
- 36:18Speaker 2: Suzuki to continue as manager. He was on a one-year contract.
- 36:22Speaker 2: One year guaranteed. They did have an option. They have
- 36:24Speaker 2: invited him to be a special assistant within the organization.
- 36:27Speaker 2: KP spent time with this organization not too long ago. We,
- 36:32Speaker 2: I think, rightfully ripped how this was done initially, giving
- 36:36Speaker 2: a one-year contract to a manager and saying, good luck,
- 36:40Speaker 2: have fun out there. So what do you think of
- 36:43Speaker 2: how this all played out now that we're a year later?
- 36:46Speaker 3: I mean, let me just.
- 36:50Speaker 4: I mean, this could be a little conspiracy here, but
- 36:52Speaker 4: it kind of feels like maybe this was pre-negotiated unless
- 36:56Speaker 4: the Angels did something kind of miraculous, you know, under
- 37:00Speaker 4: Kurt Suzuki's watch because he's really just going back to his.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Role and maybe.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Maybe with everything kind of leading up to the potential
- 37:07Speaker 4: lockout at the end of the year, they really just
- 37:09Speaker 4: wanted someone for one year. And Kurt was already in
- 37:12Speaker 4: the organization willing to do it. The fact that he's
- 37:15Speaker 4: able to kind of just go back to his job,
- 37:17Speaker 4: it's not like he got fired from a multiple year deal.
- 37:20Speaker 4: He's clearly not the one to blame. Once again, I'm
- 37:23Speaker 4: a big believer in you know, the players determine the
- 37:27Speaker 4: outcome of the game majority of the time. But a
- 37:29Speaker 4: lot of times you, as a manager, you can only
- 37:32Speaker 4: deal with the guys that you have on your roster.
- 37:34Speaker 3: And when you look at the.
- 37:36Speaker 4: Angels roster, it doesn't screen much better than 62 wins
- 37:39Speaker 4: a year. But I'd like to think the future is
- 37:43Speaker 4: bright for this organization, you know, now that new ownership
- 37:47Speaker 4: is going to be coming in. And I would expect
- 37:49Speaker 4: the Angels to be much better, maybe not in you know,
- 37:53Speaker 4: this short-term future, but I would say in a couple
- 37:56Speaker 4: years down the.
- 37:56Speaker 3: Road, I think you're going to see the Angels be
- 37:58Speaker 3: a team where.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Not only a lot of players want to go, but
- 38:02Speaker 4: I think a lot of people are going to want
- 38:03Speaker 4: to manage that team as well.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, they got a bunch of young guys
- 38:07Speaker 1: in their lineup that really didn't have enough seasoning, so
- 38:10Speaker 1: they're kind of learning in the big leagues. Kurt Suzuki
- 38:13Speaker 1: was a long-term sub. I mean, that's like there was
- 38:17Speaker 1: a teacher that was out for a year, and they
- 38:19Speaker 1: were like, you know what, we're bringing him in It's
- 38:22Speaker 1: not his fault, but he's not to blame either. He
- 38:24Speaker 1: took the one-year deal. Not saying he had much of
- 38:27Speaker 1: a choice. Maybe that's why Pujols didn't want it. Maybe
- 38:30Speaker 1: they said, Pujols, we're already paying you a million dollars
- 38:33Speaker 1: to hang around, so you're just going to take what
- 38:35Speaker 1: we give you. Who knows? He became a manager, and
- 38:40Speaker 1: now where's Mo going to go? What's that? Is it
- 38:43Speaker 1: Daniel Descalso? Does he go to somebody that he knows?
- 38:46Speaker 1: You watch this organization and you say, how's it going
- 38:50Speaker 1: to change? These guys that come from within, they need
- 38:55Speaker 1: to be guys that are ready to play in the
- 38:57Speaker 1: big leagues. You can't continue to just learn in the
- 38:59Speaker 1: big leagues and expect the wins and losses to change.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Although this was the first year that they ever lost
- 39:06Speaker 1: 100 games, I think in franchise history, I don't think
- 39:10Speaker 1: Kurt Suzuki did a bad job. I just think it
- 39:14Speaker 1: was a culture that takes more than one year to change.
- 39:18Speaker 1: And Artie Moreno did not give him that chance.
- 39:22Speaker 2: And this part we know Artie is a master at
- 39:25Speaker 2: trying to cut corners financially on the little things. And
- 39:28Speaker 2: this was one of them. Nobody, else does this in
- 39:30Speaker 2: baseball this is not some innovative invention let's sign managers
- 39:35Speaker 2: to one-year contracts you're essentially an interim manager with that
- 39:39Speaker 2: label and to me crap some of it had to
- 39:41Speaker 2: do with and i mentioned this five times throughout the
- 39:43Speaker 2: year the lockout coming up it's like yeah i'm not
- 39:45Speaker 2: going to sign up a guy long term i'm Artie
- 39:47Speaker 2: has no idea. And Artie is going to be one
- 39:49Speaker 2: of the guys or would have been if he wasn't
- 39:51Speaker 2: selling the team. And that's going to happen over the
- 39:53Speaker 2: next few months. Officially, he would have been one of
- 39:55Speaker 2: the guys saying like, we will not play ball next year.
- 39:58Speaker 2: So why is he going to have a manager on
- 40:00Speaker 2: the payroll? The curious part to me that we'll never
- 40:03Speaker 2: really find out about Kratz is if Artie would have
- 40:06Speaker 2: actually hired someone else for 2027, or if he would
- 40:11Speaker 2: have waited until we found out about the lockout result.
- 40:14Speaker 2: I think he would have waited. You know what I'm saying?
- 40:17Speaker 2: It's like, I don't care who the candidates are getting
- 40:19Speaker 2: scooped up elsewhere. We have no manager because I'm not
- 40:22Speaker 2: going to pay someone. And then I'll pay them starting
- 40:25Speaker 2: in April, May, June, July, or 28. If I need to,
- 40:29Speaker 2: if I'm already, he was the only one that's like, Hmm,
- 40:31Speaker 2: I could save a million dollars here. I truly believe
- 40:35Speaker 2: that not conspiracy theory. I truly believe the lockout was
- 40:38Speaker 2: a factor in how he was looking for a manager
- 40:41Speaker 2: last year.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I couldn't agree with you more. And we'll never know.
- 40:44Speaker 1: We'll never know because obviously he's out as the, Out
- 40:48Speaker 1: as the owner, and we don't know what he would
- 40:51Speaker 1: have done, but he 100% would have. He tried to
- 40:56Speaker 1: sell their fan base. He tried to sell all of
- 40:58Speaker 1: baseball that their fan base had fifth on their list
- 41:02Speaker 1: of five most important things that the team does is
- 41:05Speaker 1: win games. That's what he tried to sell, that their
- 41:09Speaker 1: fans did a survey and wrote down. I have a
- 41:13Speaker 1: hard time believing that somebody who thinks or would even
- 41:16Speaker 1: say that That you would say anything other than, well, yeah,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I did it once. Why would I not do it again?
- 41:25Speaker 1: We don't know if we're going to get a new CBA.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Who cares? It's December. They don't need to know who
- 41:30Speaker 1: their manager is. We'll probably hire somebody from within and
- 41:34Speaker 1: we'll see what happens. Oh, wait, they did that already
- 41:37Speaker 1: in 2026. Why would he not do it again in 2027? Yeah.
- 41:41Speaker 2: And he's on his way. I don't know what the
- 41:42Speaker 2: exact date is or, you know, they don't tell you,
- 41:45Speaker 2: but I'm just saying it hasn't happened, but that's what
- 41:49Speaker 2: makes this weird KP is that, I mean, if Artie
- 41:52Speaker 2: was owning the team and he hadn't sold, he would
- 41:54Speaker 2: have held right. And they would have waited in this case.
- 41:57Speaker 2: You do want to try and look for a manager
- 41:59Speaker 2: and have that wrapped up in the next month or so,
- 42:01Speaker 2: but they're still figuring out what their front office is
- 42:03Speaker 2: going to look like. They need the sale process to
- 42:06Speaker 2: be official. And I'm sure you can have conversations with
- 42:08Speaker 2: the guy who, as the team dialed in here. I'm
- 42:12Speaker 2: forgetting that Stan.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Was it number one on that list? Affordability. What's that then?
- 42:19Speaker 4: I believe that was number one was affordability, right? So,
- 42:21Speaker 4: I mean, it ties into not just affordability for the fans,
- 42:24Speaker 4: but affordability for me as the owner, why would I
- 42:26Speaker 4: pay a guy going into a lockout when he's not
- 42:29Speaker 4: actually going to be managing the team? So, and, and
- 42:31Speaker 4: the most already way to, you know, we, we can't
- 42:34Speaker 4: say that, you know, until the sale is actually final, but,
- 42:38Speaker 4: This seems like a nice parting gift for Artie to
- 42:40Speaker 4: kind of leave a stamp on the organization one last time,
- 42:44Speaker 4: kind of releasing a guy of his duties.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Right.
- 42:49Speaker 2: One last flub on the way out. Q1 of next year.
- 42:53Speaker 2: So sometime in the first few months of next year
- 42:56Speaker 2: is when we should find out that's all official. And
- 42:59Speaker 2: my guess is that has to do with potential tax purposes, too.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Because we found out this news months ago already, just
- 43:07Speaker 2: a guess, but that the actual sale gets official on 27th.
- 43:11Speaker 2: So that will make things interesting over the next couple
- 43:14Speaker 2: of months. So if you're the Angels, are you waiting?
- 43:18Speaker 2: Or can you just talk to Kroenke and say, hey,
- 43:21Speaker 2: what do you want to do here? And we'll bring
- 43:23Speaker 2: that guy in. You know what I'm saying?
- 43:25Speaker 3: I would love to know.
- 43:28Speaker 4: I would love to know what those conversations are like. Obviously,
- 43:31Speaker 4: it's more than a handshake agreement at this point. We're
- 43:34Speaker 4: talking about a multi-billion dollar.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Purchase here. It's more than a handshake.
- 43:41Speaker 4: But it would be interesting to know if they have
- 43:44Speaker 4: to wait to Q1 of next year for some tax
- 43:47Speaker 4: purposes or whatever sort of things need to be done.
- 43:50Speaker 4: But at what point can Stan Kroenke start kind of
- 43:54Speaker 4: making decisions through already because technically he's not the owner
- 43:57Speaker 4: but he is the owner but that it would be
- 43:59Speaker 4: interesting to find out how those dynamics work during a
- 44:02Speaker 4: a sale.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Yeah i know in the orioles what's up oh sorry
- 44:07Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 44:08Speaker 1: Oh no no i was just gonna say stan kronke
- 44:10Speaker 1: didn't go into this going you know what i want
- 44:12Speaker 1: to do i'm gonna rebuild this team i'm sure he
- 44:14Speaker 1: wants to get in right away hit the ground running
- 44:17Speaker 1: and hey let's let's do take care of some of
- 44:20Speaker 1: these inefficiencies and And it's going to be tough. It's
- 44:23Speaker 1: going to be a tough transition because of what's happening
- 44:25Speaker 1: with the lockout and because of this time period where
- 44:28Speaker 1: all the good managers are being taken up. And there's
- 44:31Speaker 1: uncertainty as to what is going to happen next because
- 44:35Speaker 1: Artie isn't willing to commit to anybody in that position
- 44:39Speaker 1: that will cost him probably $ 800 to $ 1 million. Yep, exactly.
- 44:45Speaker 2: The Orioles, I know when they were taking over, couldn't
- 44:46Speaker 2: do anything, even though it's like a weird time of
- 44:48Speaker 2: year heading into the season. There were still free agents,
- 44:50Speaker 2: but the new ownership group couldn't do anything until it
- 44:52Speaker 2: was signed and sealed. And they didn't really have a
- 44:54Speaker 2: say with John Angelos, who is a trip of a
- 44:57Speaker 2: person to deal with back when he was running the team. Anyway,
- 45:01Speaker 2: Angels fans are just happy. They're like, whatever it takes.
- 45:03Speaker 2: We have a new owner. The 2026 year was a success.
- 45:06Speaker 2: They got rid of their biggest problem for Q1 of
- 45:09Speaker 2: next year. But Kurt Suzuki will not be managing the team.
- 45:12Speaker 2: We'll see if he sticks around. with the front office. AJ,
- 45:15Speaker 2: in this postseason, there is a chance for a fan
- 45:19Speaker 2: base to get very excited to witness either their first
- 45:22Speaker 2: ever World Series title or a World Series title that
- 45:25Speaker 2: hasn't been in a long time, right? So if you're
- 45:28Speaker 2: a fan out there and you're going, man, some things
- 45:31Speaker 2: never change. No, in baseball, it can turn around. But
- 45:34Speaker 2: here's what really doesn't change. Mint Mobile, 15 bucks a
- 45:38Speaker 2: month on your wireless bill. It's been there since we
- 45:42Speaker 2: started talking about Mint Mobile, and it will continue.

- 45:47Speaker 5: going to change. The coverage is great. It's unlimited plans
- 45:51Speaker 5: for $ 15 a month. People complaining about how stuff is expensive.
- 45:54Speaker 5: Mint Mobile, still the same. $ 15, great coverage for a
- 45:58Speaker 5: great price.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Go to mintmobile.com slash territory. That's mintmobile.com slash territory for

- 46:12Speaker 2: and fees extra. See Mint Mobile for details. Hey, so
- 46:16Speaker 2: Adam McCovey wrote that Brandon Woodruff threw 23 pitches yesterday
- 46:21Speaker 2: against the Brewers A lineup. Sim game, sat 90-92, right
- 46:25Speaker 2: where he'd expect it to be in an empty stadium, right?
- 46:27Speaker 2: That'll tick up maybe a little bit with the playoffs.
- 46:29Speaker 2: He doesn't throw as hard as he used to, of course. Kratz,
- 46:31Speaker 2: did you see this little wrinkle in the rules that
- 46:33Speaker 2: Ken Rosenthal wrote about? Might prevent the team from replacing Kratz.
- 46:37Speaker 2: if injured because it says on a postseason roster, you
- 46:39Speaker 2: can be replaced only if you suffer an acute non-chronic
- 46:42Speaker 2: injury or ailment. The fear from the Brewers is that
- 46:45Speaker 2: potentially he might not get the injury exemption based on
- 46:49Speaker 2: if he comes, tries to pitch and it doesn't go well.
- 46:54Speaker 1: Correct.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Yes.
- 46:56Speaker 1: And I actually, before Ken and I had talked to
- 46:58Speaker 1: big Wu about it and that was his fear that there,
- 47:03Speaker 1: you don't want to put your team in a spot where,
- 47:06Speaker 1: that has been doing so well, and then you go
- 47:08Speaker 1: out there and the same thing happens. You can't go
- 47:12Speaker 1: on the IL for the exact same thing that you've
- 47:15Speaker 1: already spent time on the IL for, and Big Woo's
- 47:18Speaker 1: had some IL times, and you don't know how Major
- 47:22Speaker 1: League Baseball is going to roll in that moment, and
- 47:25Speaker 1: you cannot be one pitcher down ever in the World Series. Sorry,
- 47:32Speaker 1: I get that part of it, and I know Big
- 47:33Speaker 1: Woo gets that part of it. Yeah.
- 47:38Speaker 4: I was just kind of looking at, I was just
- 47:40Speaker 4: looking at the entirety of the roster and like, who
- 47:42Speaker 4: would he replace on that roster?
- 47:44Speaker 3: Not that every single one of these guys.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Pitched during the NLCS, but yeah, I mean, you, you
- 47:51Speaker 4: love it because of, you know, who he is and
- 47:54Speaker 4: what he's meant to that organization and the fact that
- 47:56Speaker 4: he's been able to work himself back up to what
- 47:59Speaker 4: is considered game ready to pitch in the world series. But,
- 48:04Speaker 4: With this rule being the way that it is, it
- 48:06Speaker 4: would be very difficult, I think, for the Brewers to
- 48:10Speaker 4: go ahead and add him to the roster, knowing that
- 48:13Speaker 4: if something, God forbid, did happen, they wouldn't be able
- 48:16Speaker 4: to replace him. And being kind of handcuffed down one pitcher,
- 48:20Speaker 4: not being able to replace him on the roster.
- 48:22Speaker 3: Could be the difference between you winning a World Series
- 48:25Speaker 3: and losing a World Series.
- 48:26Speaker 4: So Obviously, they're probably still gathering a lot of information
- 48:32Speaker 4: of how he feels today, how he's able to bounce
- 48:35Speaker 4: back and be able to throw. Luckily, they have a
- 48:37Speaker 4: couple more days before they have to kind of submit
- 48:40Speaker 4: the roster. But from the emotional side, you would love
- 48:43Speaker 4: to see him added to the roster because of who
- 48:46Speaker 4: he is and what he's meant to the organization. But
- 48:49Speaker 4: it would be a really tough sell knowing that he
- 48:52Speaker 4: could just easily be replaced if something, God forbid, did happen.
- 48:56Speaker 2: And we're still waiting, like the brewers, to find out
- 48:59Speaker 2: if MLB will interpret the rule that way, if that
- 49:01Speaker 2: did happen. And MLB technically doesn't have to give them
- 49:03Speaker 2: an answer. So we'll see if any news comes out
- 49:05Speaker 2: from that. We love you, Big Woo. A lot of
- 49:22Speaker 2: people in the Brewers world right now are like, let's
- 49:24Speaker 2: win this World Series for you, Bob Uecker. This story
- 49:28Speaker 2: went a little viral on a college house that burned down. Obviously,
- 49:33Speaker 2: that's terrible. But one of the few things that was
- 49:35Speaker 2: salvaged was a signed Bob Uecker baseball. And there it is.
- 49:40Speaker 2: There's a little photo.
- 49:43Speaker 1: That's so cool.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Charlie Bongard.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:49Speaker 4: Do your kids ever ask you that question now? I mean,
- 49:51Speaker 4: I remember growing up, like I would ask my parents
- 49:53Speaker 4: that question. If the house burnt down, obviously besides, you know,
- 49:56Speaker 4: me and my brother and like the dogs and stuff,
- 49:58Speaker 4: like what are you getting out of the house? You know,
- 50:00Speaker 4: at a time that was, you know, photo albums because
- 50:03Speaker 4: those couldn't be replaced. Now we have them all on
- 50:05Speaker 4: our phone. So have your kids ever asked you like,
- 50:07Speaker 4: is there some one thing in your house that you're taking?
- 50:10Speaker 1: We talk about it, and we still have photo albums
- 50:13Speaker 1: from our childhood. Wedding albums, too. That's not all digital,
- 50:21Speaker 1: but I think I'm going to get my Kevin Pillar back.
- 50:25Speaker 1: That's what I'm making sure.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah, run with that.
- 50:28Speaker 3: That's replaceable.
- 50:30Speaker 2: No, no, you have to fend off thieves with that, too.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Not the way I swung it.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Any sport, parlay boost token, score a bigger payout, and
- 50:41Speaker 2: you can do that for a number of different sports.
- 50:43Speaker 2: That's why it's called an any sport parlay boost token.
- 50:45Speaker 2: You could have it in your BetMGM account and then
- 50:47Speaker 2: look for some promos and bonuses when the World Series
- 50:50Speaker 2: begins on Friday. Gambling problem or concern? Call 1-800-GAMBLING.
