- 0:00Welcome to Pamoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:03of Christ International where we build stronger
- 0:05lives, deeper faith, and Christ -centered homes.
- 0:08One story, one message, and one revelation at
- 0:12a time. I'm your host, Barry Mwamba. Today we
- 0:15continue our series, When the Strong Get Tired.
- 0:19Over the last four episodes, we have been exposing
- 0:22some of the hidden battles that quietly weaken
- 0:24strong believers. Battles that often happen long
- 0:27before a person falls. Long before a marriage
- 0:30breaks. Long before a ministry collapses. Long
- 0:34before faith begins to fade. In episode one,
- 0:38we talked about physical exhaustion. How fatigue
- 0:41has become one of the enemy's most sophisticated
- 0:43weapons. How many believers are not under attack
- 0:46because they are weak, but because they are tired.
- 0:49Tired minds. Tired bodies. Tired emotions. Tired
- 0:54spirits. In episode two, we talked about spiritual
- 0:58weariness, the danger of losing our awe of God,
- 1:02the danger of continuing religious activities
- 1:04while our hearts quietly drift away from His
- 1:07presence. Because people rarely abandon God suddenly,
- 1:11most people drift away gradually. In episode
- 1:143, we discovered that many strong people become
- 1:17trapped by shame. Not trapped because God abandoned
- 1:20them, but trapped because they believed their
- 1:23failure was greater than God's mercy. Then in
- 1:26episode 4, we explored how great people quietly
- 1:29fall. We learned that education may elevate you,
- 1:33talent may position you, opportunity may promote
- 1:36you, anointing may open doors. But only character
- 1:40can sustain what God gives you, because blessings
- 1:43without character eventually become burdens.
- 1:46And today, we arrive at another battlefield,
- 1:50one that has wounded countless believers. One
- 1:53that has quietly weakened many strong Christians.
- 1:56One that few churches talk about. Today I want
- 1:59to talk about when the strong get tired. Episode
- 2:035. The weight of disappointment. Because sometimes
- 2:08the greatest battles are not the ones we fight
- 2:10against sin. Sometimes the greatest battles are
- 2:13the ones we fight after being wounded by people
- 2:15we trusted. The disappointment that comes when
- 2:18people fail us. When leaders fail us. When friends
- 2:22betray us. When family members hurt us. When
- 2:25church members wound us. When people we trusted
- 2:28break our confidence. And before we go any further,
- 2:32I want to ask you a question. Who disappointed
- 2:35you? Who hurt you? Who betrayed you? Who lied
- 2:40about you? Who rejected you? Who wounded your
- 2:44heart? Because every person listening to me today
- 2:47has somebody. A friend. A family member. a church
- 2:51member, a spouse, a pastor, a leader, a co -worker.
- 2:57Someone whose name still produces pain. Someone
- 3:00you avoid. Someone you don't want around you.
- 3:04Someone you still struggle to forgive. Maybe
- 3:07it happened yesterday. Maybe last year. Maybe
- 3:1120 years ago. But if we're not careful, that
- 3:14disappointment can become one of the most effective
- 3:17weapons of the enemy. Because the enemy understands
- 3:20something. If he cannot stop people from coming
- 3:22to Christ, he will try to make Christ's representatives
- 3:25disappoint them. And throughout history, he has
- 3:29done exactly that. We have seen false teachers,
- 3:33manipulative leaders, financial scandals, sexual
- 3:37scandals, church politics, hypocrisy, spiritual
- 3:41abuse, power struggles. And every time one of
- 3:45those things is exposed, people walk away. Some
- 3:49leave church. Some leave ministry. Some leave
- 3:52prayer. Some leave God altogether. But listen
- 3:56carefully. The enemy's goal was never merely
- 3:59to corrupt one leader. The goal was to wound
- 4:02the faith of thousands. The goal was never merely
- 4:05to expose one hypocrite. The goal was to convince
- 4:08people that everyone is a hypocrite. And suddenly,
- 4:12a person's disappointment with a pastor becomes
- 4:15disappointment with God. A person's frustration
- 4:18with a church becomes frustration with Christ.
- 4:22A person's wound becomes unbelief. That is how
- 4:25the enemy plants seeds, not always through temptation,
- 4:29sometimes through disappointment. But disappointment
- 4:32itself is not the greatest danger. Bitterness
- 4:35is. Disappointment is the wound. Bitterness is
- 4:39the infection. A wound can heal. An infection
- 4:43spreads. And this is why Hebrews 12 -15 warns
- 4:47us, See to it that no bitter root grows up to
- 4:50cause trouble and defile many. Notice that Scripture
- 4:54does not warn us about disappointment. It warns
- 4:57us about the root. Because roots grow underground,
- 5:01quietly, silently, in darkness. And before we
- 5:06know it, disappointment becomes resentment. Resentment
- 5:10becomes bitterness. Bitterness becomes distance
- 5:12from God. And distance from God becomes spiritual
- 5:16fatigue. Maybe you still attend church. Maybe
- 5:20you still worship. Maybe you still serve. Maybe
- 5:23you still pray. But underneath the surface, there
- 5:27is a root. A root fed by memories. A root fed
- 5:31by pain. A root fed by disappointment. And that
- 5:35root is changing you. Maybe you no longer trust
- 5:37people. Maybe you struggle to celebrate others.
- 5:40Maybe you replay old conversations. Maybe you
- 5:43secretly enjoy seeing someone fail. Maybe you
- 5:45cannot hear their name without anger rising inside
- 5:48you. Maybe you still dream about what happened
- 5:50years ago. Those are warning signs. Because disappointment
- 5:53left untreated becomes resentment. Resentment
- 5:56left untreated becomes bitterness. And bitterness
- 5:59left untreated becomes distance from God. Let's
- 6:01look at three men who walked with Jesus. Three
- 6:04men who experienced disappointment. Three men
- 6:06who teach us what disappointment tries to do
- 6:08to every believer. First, Judas. Somewhere along
- 6:12the journey, disappointment entered his heart.
- 6:14His expectations no longer aligned with God's
- 6:17plan. Things were not unfolding the way he thought
- 6:19they should. Instead of bringing that disappointment
- 6:21into the light, he allowed it to grow in darkness.
- 6:24Disappointment became resentment. Resentment
- 6:27became bitterness. Bitterness began poisoning
- 6:29his heart. That is what bitterness does. It destroys
- 6:32a person from the inside before anyone notices
- 6:35it on the outside. Now look at Thomas. Thomas
- 6:38watched Jesus die. the one he trusted, the one
- 6:40he followed, the one he believed would change
- 6:43everything. Suddenly all hope seemed lost. Disappointment
- 6:46produced doubt. How many believers are there
- 6:49today? Not bitter, not rebellious, simply disappointed.
- 6:52And because they are disappointed, they struggle
- 6:54to believe again. Then there is Peter. Peter's
- 6:57disappointment was different. Peter was disappointed
- 6:59in himself. He promised Jesus he would never
- 7:02deny him. Yet he denied him three times. The
- 7:05weight of that failure crushed him. After the
- 7:07resurrection, Peter returned to fishing. Back
- 7:10to what he knew. Back to his old life. That is
- 7:12what disappointment often tries to do. It tries
- 7:15to pull us back. Back into old habits. Back into
- 7:18old identities. Back into old ways of living.
- 7:21But Jesus came looking for Peter. Peter drifted.
- 7:24Thomas doubted. Judas became bitter. Yet Jesus
- 7:27pursued the ones willing to be restored. Because
- 7:29disappointment wants to create distance between
- 7:32us and God. But Jesus keeps coming after us.
- 7:35And perhaps no biblical character answers this
- 7:37better than Job. If anyone had a reason to become
- 7:40bitter, it was Job. He lost his children, his
- 7:43wealth, his health, his reputation, his security.
- 7:46Then his friends arrived, not to comfort him,
- 7:49but to accuse him. They added accusation to pain,
- 7:52judgment to suffering, disappointment to heartbreak.
- 7:55Yet Job refused to allow disappointment to become
- 7:58bitterness. Did he cry? Yes. Did he question?
- 8:01Yes. Did he struggle? Yes. But he never abandoned
- 8:04God. Instead of allowing disappointment to drive
- 8:07him away from God, he allowed disappointment
- 8:09to drive him deeper into God. And eventually
- 8:12God restored him. That is the question for all
- 8:14of us today. Is your disappointment driving you
- 8:17away from God or deeper into God? I learned this
- 8:20lesson personally. When I was around 18 years
- 8:23old, one of my closest friends lied about me.
- 8:25I was deeply disappointed, deeply wounded, deeply
- 8:29hurt. And without realizing it, the disappointment
- 8:32started producing something dangerous, bitterness.
- 8:35I replayed the situation in my mind again and
- 8:38again and again. The anger grew, the resentment
- 8:41grew, the rejection grew, the desire for revenge
- 8:44grew, and what I thought was justice was actually
- 8:48bitterness taking root. Bitterness behaves like
- 8:50an underground root system. It grows quietly
- 8:53in darkness, but eventually destroys everything
- 8:56above the surface. It changes how you see people,
- 8:59how you see leaders. how you see church, how
- 9:02you see God. And that is the danger. The person
- 9:05who hurt you may have moved on. The person who
- 9:07disappointed you may not even remember what they
- 9:09did. The person who wounded you may already be
- 9:12living their life. But you are still carrying
- 9:15the weight. And many believers think the person
- 9:17is their problem. The real problem is the root.
- 9:20Because bitterness does not imprison the person
- 9:22who hurt you, it imprisons you. Bitterness steals
- 9:25joy. Bitterness steals peace. Bitterness steals
- 9:28intimacy with God. Bitterness steals spiritual
- 9:31sensitivity. Bitterness steals freedom. That
- 9:34is why the enemy loves disappointment. Not because
- 9:37of the event. Because of the root he hopes it
- 9:39will produce. And perhaps that is why so many
- 9:42strong believers become tired. Not because they
- 9:45stopped loving God. But because they have been
- 9:47carrying bitterness for years. One night while
- 9:49praying, the Holy Spirit revealed what was happening
- 9:52inside my heart. I cried. I repented. I asked
- 9:57him to help me forgive. Not formally. Not religiously,
- 10:01genuinely, from my heart. Then something happened.
- 10:04Something I have never forgotten. I felt something
- 10:07leave my heart. The heaviness disappeared. The
- 10:10bitterness left. The resentment left. The anger
- 10:13left. And suddenly, peace entered. Freedom entered.
- 10:18Joy entered. I started smiling. I could not explain
- 10:21it. It felt as if heaven had poured something
- 10:24over my soul. The Bible calls it the oil of joy.
- 10:27The oil that heals wounded hearts. The oil that
- 10:30restores what bitterness tried to destroy. The
- 10:33oil that breaks emotional chains. The oil that
- 10:36replaces heaviness with freedom. The next day
- 10:38I went to see my friend and told him, I forgive
- 10:41you. And that day I learned one of the greatest
- 10:43lessons of my Christian life. Forgiveness is
- 10:46not for the person who hurt you. Forgiveness
- 10:48is for the freedom of your own heart. Because
- 10:50disappointment can wound you, but bitterness
- 10:53will imprison you. And forgiveness breaks the
- 10:55prison. So let me ask you again, who are you
- 10:58carrying? Whose offense are you still carrying?
- 11:01Whose betrayal are you still carrying? Whose
- 11:03rejection are you still carrying? Whose disappointment
- 11:06are you still carrying? Because some of you have
- 11:08carried it for years, and what began as a wound
- 11:11has become a root. What began as disappointment
- 11:14has become bitterness. And the Holy Spirit is
- 11:17speaking to some hearts right now, not to condemn
- 11:20you, not to shame you, not to expose you, but
- 11:23to heal you. Because what bitterness builds Forgiveness
- 11:26can destroy. What resentment has planted, the
- 11:29Holy Spirit can uproot. What disappointment has
- 11:32wounded, God can heal. Now think about Esau.
- 11:36Esau had every reason to hate Jacob, every reason.
- 11:39Jacob deceived him. Jacob stole from him. Jacob
- 11:43betrayed his trust. Years later, Jacob approached
- 11:46him trembling with fear, expecting revenge, expecting
- 11:49judgment, expecting retaliation. Instead, Esau
- 11:53ran toward him, embraced him. forgave him, forgiveness
- 11:57won. Think about David. Saul hunted him, chased
- 12:01him, tried repeatedly to kill him. Then David
- 12:04found himself standing over Saul in a cave. One
- 12:06moment, one decision, one opportunity for revenge.
- 12:10But David refused. He chose mercy over bitterness.
- 12:14He chose God's heart over wounded emotions. He
- 12:17refused to allow resentment to cloud his soul.
- 12:20Think about the father of the prodigal son, rejected,
- 12:23embarrassed. publicly disappointed, wounded by
- 12:26the very son he loved. Yet he never stopped waiting,
- 12:30never stopped loving, never stopped hoping. Disappointment
- 12:34did not produce bitterness, it produced mercy.
- 12:37And above all, think about Jesus, betrayed by
- 12:40Judas, denied by Peter, abandoned by his disciples,
- 12:44rejected by his own people, crucified by those
- 12:47he came to save. Yet from the cross he said,
- 12:50Father forgive them. Jesus chose forgiveness
- 12:53over disappointment. Mercy over resentment. Love
- 12:56over bitterness. And perhaps that is the greatest
- 12:59lesson of all. The enemy wants disappointment
- 13:01to produce bitterness, but God wants disappointment
- 13:05to produce forgiveness. Because where forgiveness
- 13:07flows, healing follows. And where healing follows,
- 13:11the oil of joy returns. Maybe today, God is not
- 13:15asking you to change churches. Maybe he is not
- 13:17asking you to leave relationships. Maybe he is
- 13:20not asking you to run away. Maybe he is asking
- 13:23you to forgive. Maybe your next breakthrough
- 13:25is not in a new place. Maybe it is in a healed
- 13:28heart. Maybe your freedom is waiting on the other
- 13:31side of forgiveness. Let us pray. Father, in
- 13:34the name of Jesus, I pray for every wounded believer,
- 13:37every disappointed heart, every person carrying
- 13:40resentment, every person carrying bitterness,
- 13:43every person who has been hurt by family, friends,
- 13:47church members, leaders, or people they trusted.
- 13:50Father, expose every bitter root hidden in our
- 13:53hearts. heal every wound, break every chain of
- 13:56resentment, release every prisoner of unforgiveness.
- 14:00Pour upon your people the oil of joy, the oil
- 14:03that heals, the oil that restores, the oil that
- 14:06replaces heaviness with peace, the oil that restores
- 14:10what bitterness tried to destroy. Give us the
- 14:12grace to forgive, the strength to release offenses,
- 14:15and the wisdom to protect our hearts. Keep our
- 14:18eyes fixed on Jesus. Strengthen those who are
- 14:21tired. Restore those who are wounded. and remind
- 14:24us that you remain faithful even when people
- 14:26fail. In Jesus' name, amen. Don't just live life,
- 14:54live it with purpose. God bless you and welcome
- 14:57to the journey.
