- 0:16SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to Not Gonna Hold Back.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Welcome back.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: And this is a cool episode because it's about Costa Rica.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: But before we get into that, let's tell all of our listeners and fans that we finally came up with a name called Loyal Ones.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: So welcome back, loyal ones.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Loyal ones.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: Another ring to it.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Welcome back, loyal ones, to another edition of Not Gonna Hold Back.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: So we're Again, no sleeves.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: The studio's actually really warm today.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Um, so we were in Costa Rica, and me and Peggy were water tubing, and she kept saying go faster because some of our family members wanted to go really slow.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: So I understand because they were really young.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: But so she gets in the water tube with me and we go really, really, really fast.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: And all of a sudden, she said, they're not gonna stop until one of us fall out.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: She's like, let go of it, and you stop out.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: That's not exactly how I remember it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: So we were in Costa Rica.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: We were actually in Peninsula Papagayo.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it.
- 1:33SPEAKER_02: Beautiful, beautiful place.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: We were water tubing.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: It was the last tube of the day.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: We were going rapidly fast, and I could tell by the boat captain or driver's eyes that he was not going to stop until someone ate it that day.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: And it was not gonna be me.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: I mean, let's be honest, I'm too old for that.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: So I just said to Andrew, they're not gonna stop until one of us eat it.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: And he said, Oh.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: He said, Are you gonna do it?
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: I said, Oh no, I will die holding on to this tube.
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: I'm not going down.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: He said, Should I should I let go?
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: And I went, Okay.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Well, that's when the trip took a turn.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: So when I fell out, I did a backflip into the water and I hit the white water, and my left knee that you see up right now went one way, my body went the other way.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: That's a lot of body.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, you can see him.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: He's a good sized fella.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: You are.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Anyways, and I knew immediately when the boat stopped, I said, fuck, I can't.
- 2:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, I don't like it when he says words like that.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Fuck, I can't move.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Again.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: And uh, I was like, the boat has to freaking come to me.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: I cannot swim back to the boat.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: And I kept saying, My knee, my knee, my knee.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: We get on the boat.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: It's hurting.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: I get off the boat.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: One of my one of the you little humans that we had with us took off running up the stairs, and there was so much adrenaline in my knee that I took off running and didn't feel it until we got back home.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: And then Peggy, I was like, My knee, my knee, my knee, my knee, my knee.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: And Peggy thought I was just faking it.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: Well, not faking it necessarily, ladies, but let's be honest.
- 3:24SPEAKER_02: Men are babies, that's why we have the children.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: So they they do exaggerate a bit.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: So I was just making sure that he was really, really in pain.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Anyways, so I don't go on this next excursion the next day.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: I stay home and watch my iPad and start planning this amazing show that I love so much.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: And then all of a sudden I think, oh, maybe I can go to the paramedics and see if they have sports tape or the fire station or the police station.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: However, again, with the men, I told them to look in the first aid kit for uh ace bandage wrap to kind of wrap it up and isolate it.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: I was out on the river viewing crocodiles at that point, and he had texted me and said, There's nothing here.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: I said, Well, then you're gonna have to call somebody else.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: However, when I returned home, I said there was nothing here, huh?
- 4:25SPEAKER_02: Because we made a couple stops and I looked for a bandage and they told me I had to go to a pharmacy and didn't want to make a big deal of it, so I didn't do that.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: So I walk into the villa and open the door where the first aid kid is.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: And what do you think the first thing I saw was?
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's right.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: That ace bandage.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Anyways, I didn't think it was an ace bandage when I looked at it because ace bandages are usually rolled up in a certain way, and this one was not because we were in the middle of an island in the peninsula.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: True.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Anyway, he's in physical therapy, he has been for four weeks, five weeks, really did hurt his knee.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: It's healing, he's on the mend.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, we're done.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: However, we're also done with, but I feel that I should mention it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: I got bit by a scorpion in the middle of the night in my sleep.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: And the scary thing was, is it was about 1.30 a.m.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: I was laying with my head in my hand on my pillow, and all of a sudden, I mean, I felt it.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: I jumped up out of bed and said a word that starts with F and it wasn't free.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: Turned on the light, I screamed, I yelled, my husband, I'm like, something just bit me.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Turn on the lights and look, and there is a scorpion about four or five inches long, right above my pillow on the headboard.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: I dare to think what it would have bitten if my hand had not been on my face.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, really?
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: Has anyone ever been bit by a scorpion on the face?
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: That can't be pleasant.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: Anyway, immediately I go into panic mode.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: So I called the paramedic numbers at 1.30 a.m.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And they're let me interrupt, they are closed because they are useless on this island.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: Closed.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: No, no emergencies happen at 1.30 a.m.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: in peninsula papagayo and Costa Rica.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: So I called the bilingual doctor and I explained to him that I'd been bitten, and he was very calm about it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: And he said, no need to worry, none of the scorpions in Costa Rica are venomous.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, none of them?
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: I got a little bit of a question mark about that.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: That's like, you know, anyway, finger healed, took some ibuprofen, everything is great.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: But on that note, isn't like when you get into the ocean?
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Like I remember we were be we were in the Adriatic Sea one year and I was on a one of those handheld sea scooters going under the water.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: If you haven't tried those and you get the opportunity, you should, they're quite amazing.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: So I'm going and I'm moving along.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: And then I it occurs to me as I look around that it's just me in that water there.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: I am clearly food for a whale or a shark, just laying in wait for me to pass by.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: So I turn around and I hightail it back to the boat we were on, and I thought that wasn't smart.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: And then I get up there and someone said, Well, you came back really fast.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: And I said, Yeah, I didn't want to have a shark encounter.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: And they were like, Oh, there's no sharks in this water.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: People, I don't like it when people tell me that because I'm can you 100% guarantee me that nowhere in that body of water was a shark or a whale.
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: I don't think people can do that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: And I don't like when they do that because that's just false, right?
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're not there until I get eaten, and they are, right?
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: I don't want to do that.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: That's not how I want to go down.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Know what I mean?
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know what you mean.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Anyway, that was our Costa Rica story, and then I threw a little bit more in there, but that's okay.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: We don't care.
