- 0:17I'm Jessica and this is Tabaki Rambles, where a couple of
- 0:20friends review Korean dramas and I'm back for another spooky
- 0:25season episode. This is episode three of our
- 0:27little Halloween special season and Rico's back.
- 0:32Hey, Rico. Hey, what's up?
- 0:34How you doing, Jess? I'm doing well.
- 0:37How are you? I'm doing pretty well this.
- 0:40This gap that we've had between the the two episodes is not very
- 0:46big. It's actually, I know.
- 0:48Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 0:51Two weeks ago. Oh, true.
- 0:53Yeah. Two weeks ago we recorded the
- 0:55Ballerina episode, which is a movie on Netflix.
- 0:59And what's funny is it's kind of making the rounds.
- 1:03This is as I know. But that movie is making the
- 1:05rounds a little bit on social media because, you know, the
- 1:09villain dude. OK, so he posted like a carousel
- 1:14of images, and the first images of him in the mask, in the BDSM
- 1:18mask, people have been losing their shit.
- 1:21They're like, wait, I know I wasn't prepared.
- 1:23Like nobody told me, because obviously, like, that's spoilery
- 1:28but. It's spoilery, and it's
- 1:31triggering for some people as well, so you never know how
- 1:35people approach that photo. Uh huh.
- 1:38So And then I know. And he's shirtless, like the
- 1:41whole bit. Like he he knows what to post on
- 1:45his Instagram. Yeah, of course.
- 1:47Anyway, Long story short, go back in your podcast feed and
- 1:50listen to that episode if you haven't already, but thank you

- 3:09Are you ready to review Moving the K Drama?
- 3:13Moving. I am.
- 3:15I am one thing, I will say. Is that, you know, this is a
- 3:20theme of you're in your Halloween spooky season for the
- 3:25show. Yeah.
- 3:26I feel like this show does not fit that criteria at all.
- 3:29So then what had happened was, I'll tell you so I saw the
- 3:34aesthetic of it and I was like, oh, it's like really dark and
- 3:37it's shot differently and it's not a typical looking cage drama
- 3:40at all. Plus, I heard that it was gory.
- 3:46I like violent. Right.
- 3:49So I get that for sure. So that's when I was like, oh
- 3:52perfect, we'll review moving and then a little bit later I was
- 3:55like, this doesn't seem at. All scary spooky.
- 4:01Like, no, Like thrillers pushing it.
- 4:04Yeah, pushing it is thriller, but even then, even then it's
- 4:08manageable. It's not like you're really
- 4:11scared. Yeah, so if you're not a person.
- 4:15If you're a person who does not like scary stuff, this is fine.
- 4:19This is this is perfect. Not scary.
- 4:21So no, no. But I will say the next episode
- 4:25or the last episode in this little spooky season will
- 4:27definitely be in the spooky Halloween wheelhouse.
- 4:33Definitely more on brand this one.
- 4:34Kind of like I was too late to change it and I actually really
- 4:37wanted to watch the show anyway, so I was like, whatever, stick
- 4:40with it. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:42So that's how it ended up here in Spooky Season, even though
- 4:45it's not really ghosts and zombies and whatever else.
- 4:49Fools comb and zombies with no conscience.
- 4:53A terrible Jay-Z line from Monster?
- 5:00Oh man. That's because Nikki ate them up
- 5:04on that track. No, no.
- 5:05She definitely has the best verse.
- 5:07Oh my gosh. But yeah, I've never heard such
- 5:09a bad Jay-Z verse. Ever.
- 5:12Wait, wait, wait. What are we talking about for
- 5:13the people that don't know? So for people who don't know the
- 5:16song Monster, this is the track from my Dark Twisted Fantasy
- 5:21from Kanye's album and this is the song monster that is Kanye
- 5:27Jay-Z. And Nicki Minaj with a little
- 5:31bit of Man, I forgot his name. Oh, Rick Ross at the beginning.
- 5:37So yeah, so each one has a verse.
- 5:40Kanye starts it off. It's it's good.
- 5:42There's some memorable lines. Jay-Z comes second and boy is it
- 5:46awful. Like, it is terrible.
- 5:49Like like he just starts naming like all these different like
- 5:53monsters that you would see in Universal Pictures from like the
- 5:5730s. And, like, it's just so
- 6:01terrible. At one point, he goes, I know
- 6:06what my biggest deal is, love. I don't get enough of it.
- 6:10And I'm just like, this is terrible.
- 6:12But thank God that Nikki comes third to save that monstrosity.
- 6:17No pun intended. Yeah, Nikki's incredible.
- 6:22She's lace, OK? So just context, Yeah, so sorry.
- 6:27We move really, really fast. Like we just known each other so
- 6:30long. We've done podcasting for so
- 6:31long that we just, it'll be real quick.
- 6:35So we have to slow it down. Sometimes we have to slow it
- 6:38down, explain how we know something so well to each other.
- 6:43Exactly. All right, Well, I'll go ahead
- 6:46and read the MDL synopsis. My drama list.
- 6:49It reads Kimbong Sook, Jang He Soo, and E Kung UN.
- 6:55Seemingly typical high school students bear extraordinary
- 6:58inherited powers. Bung Sook can fly, Hisu
- 7:01possesses exceptional athleticism and rapid injury
- 7:04recovery, and Kong Moon wields uncanny strength and speed.
- 7:09As they conceal their gifts, their parents fight to shield
- 7:12them from exploitation by others, navigating A delicate
- 7:15balance between secrecy and protection.
- 7:19If you didn't catch the name of it, I don't know if we said it,
- 7:21but the name of the K drama is moving.
- 7:25Yeah, we said it a little earlier, but yes, we.
- 7:27Wanted to make sure it aired from August to September 2023.
- 7:32This year was released weekly, a few episodes a week I believe,
- 7:36and it is 20 episodes long. I know that's pretty long.
- 7:40However, each episode is only like 40 minutes.
- 7:43This is what network television used to be back in the day where
- 7:49like. The West Wing is the best
- 7:51example. There are 23 episodes a season.
- 7:54They're all about 42 minutes long.
- 7:56Oh, that's. Oh bless.
- 7:58Bless. So, so that's exactly what
- 8:00you're looking at. It's like you're looking at one
- 8:02season of network television from back in the day.
- 8:05Yeah. And it.
- 8:06And I love it. I I really do.
- 8:07Yeah, me too. Wasn't it great?
- 8:09I love it. It was.
- 8:10Each episode was like, so, yes. Yes.
- 8:14There's an internal clock that I have in my head, not that I'm
- 8:17keeping track, but like there's like an alarm that goes off if a
- 8:20show that I'm watching that is an hour.
- 8:23And I put that in quotations because of commercials and
- 8:25stuff. But once it goes past a certain
- 8:27time, I'm like the show's not, you know, resolving.
- 8:31But that's because I'm so used to that 42 minute thing that
- 8:35when a show goes over that and is like an hour, an hour 10 and
- 8:38I'm just like oh this this just feels long, you know, so.
- 8:43Very, very appreciative that moving.
- 8:46Decided to do the 40 to 42 minute yeah episode thing.
- 8:51I love it. It's good stuff.
- 8:53It is adapted from the webtoon moving by Kung Fu AKA Kung Pool.
- 8:58It I guess just depends on how you pronounce it.
- 9:02There is no F sound in Korean, so there's that.
- 9:06It's a nickname, however, so it's a what's it called?
- 9:09Pen name he He also wrote the screenplay.
- 9:14So he is the author of the web comic and the screenwriter.
- 9:18He's written 8 movies and this is his first show.
- 9:22I think the 8 movies are adaptations of his webtoon as
- 9:24well. Oh, OK, different webtoons.
- 9:27Nice. He is obviously a webtoon author
- 9:30artist and he's regarded as a first generation webtoon artist.
- 9:34Is it because, like webtoons are so new?
- 9:38That's the only thing I can think of, You know, it has to do
- 9:42with, I guess that when he kind of got in the game and then I
- 9:47also feel like in K culture, they'd love to put things in
- 9:51eras, right? So consider K pop with like
- 9:53first Gen. second Gen. third Gen. and 4th Gen.
- 9:56They're they just like delineating the eras like that.
- 10:01Yeah, Fearless speak now, Red. Yeah.
- 10:04Exactly. Exactly, exactly.
- 10:06You get me? I totally get it.
- 10:10So we just watched the Taylor Swift eras to our movie and we
- 10:14reviewed it on Always the Critic podcast.
- 10:15So that's where that's come. It's it's relevant.
- 10:19Yeah. OK, So Moving was directed by
- 10:23Parkin Jay. He's also directed Kingdom
- 10:26Season 2, which is a zombie show on Netflix.
- 10:30Really good. I think each season of it is
- 10:35only 8-6 or eight episodes, and then there's two seasons total.
- 10:40Freaking easy to binge that. It is such an amazing show.
- 10:44I highly recommend you watch it. I don't.
- 10:46I would love to recommend it to Eureka, but I know that you're
- 10:49not a zombie person. It's just so excellent.
- 10:51And we talked about it actually on our Sweet Home episode.
- 10:55Yes, briefly I mentioned it because it's got all the things
- 10:59that you kind of wanted out of Sweet Home.
- 11:01And I was like, we should have watched Kingdom.
- 11:04So he directed only season 2 of Kingdom and two movies and
- 11:10that's it. He's pretty green.
- 11:12Yeah, he is green. That's not really big resume, so
- 11:15I mean same for the screenwriter, Kung Fu or Kung
- 11:18Fu. The adults, the cast stacked
- 11:23like in a word, this is a really high profile cast and some of
- 11:31these faces you've seen before Rico, because conveniently
- 11:33you've watched some of their previous work.
- 11:35So we'll just go through them. We have Rio Sung Ryong plays
- 11:41Jang Ju One and I have him here as the Hulk.
- 11:45Yeah, the nickname he's Chicken Shop.
- 11:48Yeah, he runs the chicken shop. Yeah.
- 11:50And yeah, super strength Hulk type figure.
- 11:53Yep. I totally agree with the cool.
- 11:55So if you want to call him the Hulk later in the show, well,
- 11:58that's fine. You know what I was comparing
- 12:00the show to? Just so like, I in my head?
- 12:03Yeah, yeah. I was comparing this kind of to
- 12:05the X-Men. Oh really?
- 12:07Yeah. A lot of people have been
- 12:09likening the show to Heroes. Oh yeah, you know, I can see it.
- 12:14I only saw one season of Heroes but like I saw clips on YouTube
- 12:19of Heroes so save the cheerleaders.
- 12:23But I have seen Just stop It. But I've seen every freaking
- 12:29superhero movie you can think of.
- 12:30That's true. Plus those shitty Disney Plus
- 12:33shows. So except for one Division I
- 12:37love one division. I can't shed on one division
- 12:39that. Much.
- 12:40No, no. One division's great.
- 12:41No, no, no. It's.
- 12:42And I love Loki. I haven't started season 2 yet.
- 12:44What I saw we saw the first two episodes of season 2.
- 12:48Anyway, Long story short, it's superheroes.
- 12:51Yeah, it's superheroes. So yeah, so Sung Ryong, you
- 12:56might have seen him in the 36 movies that he's done, including
- 13:00Miracle and Cell number 7, Masquerade from 2012 with IB
- 13:03Young UN and all About My Wife, War of the Arrows, the list goes
- 13:07on. I think that was his best film
- 13:10era was 2011 through 2013. That was like the best time to
- 13:14me. And then he's done 11 TV shows,
- 13:18including Kingdom, using both seasons of Kingdom.
- 13:22So that's where he met the director and he was also in
- 13:26personal taste in 2010 which is this really weird show with even
- 13:32though like. So what's the plot of personal
- 13:37taste? So there's this woman living,
- 13:39and it's the female lead from Crash landing on you, Sonia Jin.
- 13:43Got it. She is living in a traditional
- 13:46Korean house and an architect, Lee Min Ho wants to, I think
- 13:52either like survey the house or something like that, or use the
- 13:57house as inspiration for a a new project, and I can't remember
- 14:00which one it is. But he wants into the house.
- 14:03She lets nobody into the house, but she's looking for a
- 14:05roommate. So he decides to apply to become
- 14:09her roommate and masquerade as a gay man to do it.
- 14:15So she she gets this gay roommate she thinks is like
- 14:18safe. And obviously he's not gay.
- 14:21It's this whole thing. It's wild.
- 14:23So anyway, Ryu Song Ryong was in personal taste in 2010.
- 14:30I am beyond scared to revisit some of those older shows that I
- 14:35watched. And see if it holds up.
- 14:38I know it doesn't hold up, but anyway.
- 14:41We also have Han Yoju who plays IMI Hyon.
- 14:45She is our leading lady. I call her the sniper slash
- 14:49tonkatsu. Mom, do you have Do you have
- 14:53another nickname for her at all? Not really.
- 14:58Only because like that type of character I can't really eyeball
- 15:03in in like maybe Deadshot. A female Deadshot would be the
- 15:08only thing that I can think of. OK.
- 15:10That would be the only thing. And that's a.
- 15:13Yeah, that's a comic book character.
- 15:15So that's what I'm thinking in my head, because like, these are
- 15:18kind of comic book characters. They're facsimiles.
- 15:21Yeah, they're facsimiles. So like if if I were to put like
- 15:25a, you know, something similar in this, I would probably go
- 15:29with a female Deadshot. Yeah, I so I so you've seen her
- 15:34because she was in W2 Worlds Apart.
- 15:37Yeah, yo, that show. So we reviewed that for the
- 15:43podcast. Rico was there.
- 15:46He remembers it all too well. And I really appreciate that
- 15:52show, even though it's not 100. Like, it's got its flaws, it's
- 15:57got its issues, there's problems, but it still holds a
- 16:01very special place in my heart. She's been in so many things and
- 16:06they're all excellent. She chooses her projects really,
- 16:09really well. Even her movies.
- 16:11I love her movies. I've seen her in always from
- 16:152011 with Suji Sub. That one was so sad.
- 16:19It's a melodrama. I don't want to give anything
- 16:21away. I don't want to give anything
- 16:23away, but watch that one. You will need tissues masquerade
- 16:27as well, so you see kind of things start to intertwine.
- 16:31Because Hulk Sung Reung was also in Masquerade with her.
- 16:37She was in love 911 Beauty inside which they they turned
- 16:43that into K drama soon after that because it was so
- 16:46successful. She was in Love Lies, which I
- 16:48have a Patreon review up for that movie, The pirates sequel,
- 16:52The Last Royal Treasure and then recently in 20th Century Girl
- 16:56which broke everyone's hearts because they just didn't see it
- 16:59coming like that ending it was heartbreaking.
- 17:05Also she was in Happiness, which is another zombie show.
- 17:07Excellent show. Love it.
- 17:12What do you think of her in this show?
- 17:14So in the show, out of the, out of the adults, I I liked her.
- 17:21It wasn't as captivating, I would say, as some of the other
- 17:24characters, right? Like there was, there were two
- 17:28characters out of the adults that I was really drawn to.
- 17:31We've already spoken about one. Jean.
- 17:35Jean Juan is the name of the character Hulk.
- 17:39Really enjoy. We still haven't mentioned the
- 17:41next one, but like her character was fine.
- 17:45There was a lot of times where I kind of felt like she she was
- 17:48more just kind of in a very what's the word that I'm looking
- 17:54for? Just she was kind of in the back
- 17:56seat a lot and there was a lot of times where you know that
- 18:01she's important and there's, you know, there's an importance to
- 18:04her character. But we we don't see it too
- 18:07often, We don't get a lot of it. So she kind of falls in the
- 18:12background Sometimes I see that. I see that it's not a flashy
- 18:16role. Not flashy at all and but I like
- 18:21her, her character. I think there's something really
- 18:23cool and mysterious about her and super guarded as well.
- 18:30That's just how the character was was written.
- 18:33We have her Co star Choyan Song who plays Kim Doshik.
- 18:38I just have him here as Superman.
- 18:41I know. I mean, pretty much, yeah bro.
- 18:45So two things. One is Hanihodu people.
- 18:49Very surprised to see her as a mother because we've seen her
- 18:56young and you know, childless in pretty much every one of her
- 19:00roles so far. So this is a had a shift change
- 19:05in her career. Yeah, and not just like a kid
- 19:10Oman Gansong. Like Oman Gansong.
- 19:12Just like a big ass a grown. Yeah, Like, yeah, that.
- 19:17That's the big thing about it. Like, it kind of happened to me
- 19:21recently when I watched this new movie.
- 19:25Then she came to me. It's with Peter Dinklage, Anne
- 19:28Hathaway. Anne Hathaway is a mother to a.
- 19:33To a child who's about to graduate high school, and I was
- 19:35like, damn, she's already there. I was like, damn, dude, like, it
- 19:41doesn't feel like that. Like, she just turned 40.
- 19:44But it still doesn't feel that way, you know?
- 19:46Yeah, Hani Hadju is in her 30s. She's in her 30s and she's like,
- 19:50you know, a 1617 year old, whatever the age of.
- 19:53That of that boy. Yeah.
- 19:55So yeah. Like, yeah, she does not look
- 19:58like she should be. The mother.
- 20:01Of And if you see her on the press tour and in some of the
- 20:04photo shoots that they've done for this show, if she does not,
- 20:07look, they aged her up to play this game.
- 20:10They had to age her up. And even like that, Like, it's
- 20:12still kind of like, hmm, she's the mom, huh.
- 20:16Interesting. So it's a little strange for
- 20:18people. A little jarring.
- 20:19I for 1:00 AM, OK with it. I think that she can.
- 20:23She's a grown woman. She knows how to fucking pick
- 20:26her projects. She's very picky.
- 20:29And it's worth like, this show is proof of that because I think
- 20:34once you saw some stills of her, you were probably a little
- 20:37hesitant to watch her in something like this.
- 20:40And then once you see the finished product, you're like,
- 20:42Oh my God, it was worth it to, like, age her up.
- 20:46Yes, yes, yes, yes. For Toy and Sung, though, this
- 20:50is a big deal that he's in this drama because he hasn't been
- 20:55starring in a drama. Since 2014, the last time you
- 20:59saw him was in 2016 in a special guest appearance in the show
- 21:03called Dear My Friends, and he basically just goes off the grid
- 21:08when he's not working. Oh, so he just disappears?
- 21:12He just does like a big show. He gets paid handsomely and then
- 21:15he just dips. Got it.
- 21:18Which I appreciate that lifestyle a lot and.
- 21:24I think it's hard for people who are just starting out watching K
- 21:27dramas because they don't know who he is, especially if you
- 21:31haven't gone back to like like see some of the older work.
- 21:37Right, because I I mean, I grew up watching him in the K dramas
- 21:43that I started out watching. I start.
- 21:45I came in like early 2000 tens and he, that was his era.
- 21:48Like that he was popping off. In 2010, like they're twenty
- 21:5310s. Gotcha.
- 21:54Oh my God. So he was in that winter the
- 21:57wind blows with some Hekio, the female lead from descendants of
- 22:03the sun. Oh, OK.
- 22:05She was a blind heiress and he was deceiving her so that he
- 22:08could get her her inheritance. It was fucking nuts.
- 22:10I mean these plots, right? The plot lines are.
- 22:14Fantastic plots are plotting. So he was in that he looks so
- 22:18good. It's OK.
- 22:21This is Love or it's OK That's Love from 2014, one of my
- 22:25favorite K dramas of all time and he's in that.
- 22:28He stars in that. I again, if you're if you see
- 22:35him and you're like wow, I want to see more of him, there's
- 22:37more. Go back in the catalogue and and
- 22:41dig deep, right? Like watch these dramas because
- 22:43they're good memories of Bali. AKA something happened in Bali.
- 22:48I just have to say, he's not here to defend himself.
- 22:50But Miguel knows what he did. He told me to.
- 22:54What's up? This show, something happened in
- 22:58Bali is from 2004. It's an older drama, almost 20
- 23:03years old, actually. And Miguel was like, you got to
- 23:07watch this drama. It's so great, blah, blah, blah.
- 23:10And I was like, oh, OK, cool. So I took his advice and I
- 23:14watched the show. I swear to you, I still think
- 23:19about the night, the nightmares that I had watching this show
- 23:23and the ending that it had. It is pure trauma.
- 23:28There is, I mean, if you think that like endings from the red
- 23:32sleeve and 2521 and, I don't know youth of May are traumatic,
- 23:40listen what something happened to Bali.
- 23:44Is Trump's all of that? It was.
- 23:47I hated it. It was terrible to I hated the
- 23:50show. I was livid when I because I
- 23:54came back. I think we went out for like
- 23:55pizza or something in Hunter's Creek here in Orlando and I walk
- 24:01in and I was like, Miguel, I think you owe me an apology
- 24:05because it was so bad. So I know a lot of people like
- 24:11that show. But anyway, Long story short,
- 24:14Cho and sung icon. Icon and he's here in this, in
- 24:18this fucking show. It's amazing.
- 24:20Kim Sung Kyun, another icon, he plays Jaiman.
- 24:23He is the character with an intellectual disability and he
- 24:26has super strength and he's super fast as well.
- 24:29Yeah, he can. He can also like, leap.
- 24:32Yeah, like super far. Kind of like, it's almost like
- 24:36Hulk, yeah, Where he can, like, jump really far.
- 24:41Or when Superman and Man of Steel is like starting to try to
- 24:44fly, like, it's like these giant ass hops.
- 24:48It's basically that. He has been in everything you
- 24:51can think of. 34 movies including Secretly Greatly,
- 24:56Hawaii and Monster Boy, The Suspect.
- 24:58All of these with All Star cast. He's been in 14 TV shows,
- 25:02including DP, which we covered earlier in our spooky season.
- 25:07Divorce attorney Shin We KIRO Class One Grid Moon Lovers
- 25:10Skylar How Rio which we've covered as well.
- 25:13Not in the spooky season at the end of season four that was the
- 25:16finale episode Moon Lovers. So this guy really well known
- 25:21household name. Then we have Kimi Wan as Che
- 25:25Yihuan. He is the PE slash homeroom
- 25:27teacher, yes. Well, another icon.
- 25:33Another icon. He's been in 36 movies.
- 25:35Including Unlock The Beauty Inside, which is the same movie
- 25:38that Han Yoju was in Cart. No Tears for the Dead, The Man
- 25:43From Nowhere, which I just reviewed for the Patreon fee
- 25:46because I did my annual rewatch of that movie.
- 25:49Fucking love this man. These are great names that I'm
- 25:52throwing out here. And then we have our kids as
- 25:55well. Thankfully, there's not that
- 25:58many of them because I'm already feeling like we're running long
- 26:02in the tooth, but we have Koyun Jung.
- 26:05As he sue, she is. I call her home girl in my
- 26:09notes. She's the PE major monster baby.
- 26:11I don't know what you want to call her.
- 26:13Yeah, I was getting just AX23 or Wolverine Vibes, so.
- 26:20You're getting Wolverine vibes just because of the the
- 26:23regenerative power of being able to heal like that, that that's
- 26:28the the very classic person who can heal in that way is
- 26:33Wolverine and in turn the daughter X-23.
- 26:37So that's what I was getting those vibes.
- 26:39I see. I like it.
- 26:42OK, so X-23 is Koyun Jung. You might have seen her in
- 26:50Alchemy of Souls, which there's a 2 parter 2 part episode on the
- 26:55feed. And then you might have seen her
- 26:56in law school, school, nurse files.
- 26:58He is psychrometric Rico. You've seen her in Sweet Home?
- 27:01Yes, I did. I did.
- 27:03I was like, wait a minute. Is that?
- 27:05Wait a second from Sweet Home and I was.
- 27:08Right. Yes, it was.
- 27:10She's here as a student. I think she's like 27 or 28 in
- 27:15real life. I mean, she's like a high school
- 27:17student. It's it's it's all the dilemmas
- 27:19we always face with all these high school movies where they're
- 27:22having 27 year olds play. High school students like we've
- 27:26seen it all the time. I know we've seen worse.
- 27:28Stalker Channing. Stalker Channing.
- 27:30Stalker Channing. Yeah, yeah, from Greece.
- 27:33For those who one of my one of my favorite things ever is
- 27:42Family Guy. No, no, not Family Guy.
- 27:44American Dad, where the alien Roger is like, oh, he knew or he
- 27:52knew Stocker Channing in her 40s.
- 27:55Oh no, no, I'm sorry. He knew Stocker Channing in the
- 27:5840s. She was 50.
- 28:03Just like it's so messed up. It's a running gag with the.
- 28:07Running gag and pop culture, but Grease especially cast, because
- 28:12you look at that cast like there are people who are in high
- 28:15school in that movie. That's a man.
- 28:18That is a man who's been divorced.
- 28:20Like, like, ridiculous divorced with kids.
- 28:23Like get out of here with that high school student.
- 28:27It is hilarious. T birds my ass.
- 28:32Anyway, we also have. He Dong Ha who plays Kimbong
- 28:36Sook. He is my fly boy.
- 28:38I have him as my little peanut. I don't know if you had a
- 28:41nickname for him. I didn't, but he yellow.
- 28:45Yellow is his color, yellow is his color.
- 28:49I just found him. I felt like he was Comic Relief
- 28:54to me. Kind of.
- 28:55Or just a light levity to like darker scenarios?
- 29:00Yes, yes. He was such a breath of fresh
- 29:03air. He was needed to bring a little
- 29:05bit of comedy. Yeah, like, like you said to the
- 29:09show. Speaking of comedy, I watched on
- 29:13TikTok because TikTok knows, like, what I'm doing, what I'm
- 29:17watching. It just knows, so of course they
- 29:19do. It brought me this video of him
- 29:22auditioning to debut as a singer on a survival show called the
- 29:25Unit Idol Rebooting Project. And he was adorable.
- 29:34Adorable. All of the judges who are a
- 29:37list. You know, K Pop celebs were just
- 29:42pushing him through because he was so endearing.
- 29:44Even though he didn't have the chops, he didn't have the
- 29:47skills. He was going one-on-one.
- 29:49Like Rain gave him like a little tutorial on how to dance like he
- 29:52was making him do that. Like body roll.
- 29:55Yeah, the body roll that like. But the kid had no rhythm.
- 30:00No brother couldn't do the body roll but a one-on-one thing with
- 30:04rain is a huge or I'm not saying it right rain.
- 30:07So he rain couldn't even do it with a straight face because he
- 30:13was so cute and smiley with his little dimples.
- 30:16That Rain just kept laughing. My goodness.
- 30:20It was adorable, so I encourage you guys to sneak out this
- 30:24little video of him. Apparently Yi Jong Ha was a
- 30:27trainee under JYP, which makes a lot of sense.
- 30:31However, he left the company because he lacked confidence and
- 30:34could not keep up with other trainees as he felt they were
- 30:36better than him. Seeing what I saw on TikTok,
- 30:39that little clip, I yeah, I don't even know how he got into
- 30:42JYP. You don't even know how he got
- 30:45in. I don't even know how he got in
- 30:47so. He was also in nevertheless from
- 30:502021. That's kind of a curse word of a
- 30:52show. No, not a lot of people like
- 30:55that one. I can't believe I watched him
- 30:57myself. He was on Run on And rookie
- 31:00historian Gujario, I got to be real honest with you, I don't
- 31:07remember this man in these shows, this little boy at all.
- 31:10So if you if you saw him in these shows, I would love to
- 31:15see. Your hear your thoughts on him
- 31:17from those small bit parts in those shows.
- 31:20And lastly we have Kim do Hyun Kim to Hoon who plays E Kong
- 31:26Hoon and he's like the glasses kid like the class prez.
- 31:29Yes, OK Who in the very first episode is collecting
- 31:33everybody's cell phones? Yeah, yes, exactly.
- 31:36Exactly. That kid hall monitor.
- 31:39Hall monitor. So he's in the Escape of the
- 31:42Seven. From 2023, I think that's coming
- 31:44out a little later this year, The LA Cafe and today's Web Two.
- 31:49Again, these are largely untested younger actors paired
- 31:53up with big names in the K the K cinema and K drama.
- 31:59You can you can almost say it would be kind of a passing of
- 32:05the baton type of scenario. Maybe, you know, working so
- 32:10closely with these generational actors and actresses, you know,
- 32:16trying to give the new generation kind of, you know, a
- 32:19good stepping stone. I mean, you can kind of liken it
- 32:24since I'm on the X-Men train days, Future Past, where you
- 32:29have the old cast and the new cast, you know, kind of sharing
- 32:32screen time. So something similar.
- 32:35Yeah, absolutely. So we have finally gone through
- 32:37this whole cast and we're here at the end of that.
- 32:43Rico, what did you think of moving?
- 32:47So I'll be honest, I think this is a really good show.
- 32:51Oh, my God. The way you've gone the first
- 32:57episode, when the first character that we're introduced
- 33:01to is what's it called? Kim Bong Sook, like when that's
- 33:07the first character, I was kind of like interesting that this is
- 33:11the character. So I thought it would be more of
- 33:14a, you know, like humorous, good-natured type of show just
- 33:19by him being like the first character.
- 33:22What really sold me on the show was when we start getting the
- 33:26more interactions with Jung Kyu Soo that that's Koyu Jung's
- 33:34character and also Rio Song Ryong's character of Jang Wu,
- 33:40Jang Ju Wong So Hulk and X-23, you know, father daughter.
- 33:47That was the one that sold me the most.
- 33:49Also, what also sold me was the character Frank.
- 33:54Oh, OK. Because like being a cleaner and
- 33:59coming out and basically taking out like EX Super people like
- 34:05that was like intriguing like first that's.
- 34:07Very Incredibles of him, exactly.
- 34:09Just like The Incredibles, yeah. What was the name of that red
- 34:12haired character? It's a syndrome.
- 34:14Syndrome. Yeah, he's basically syndrome.
- 34:17He's except with Powers, right? Exactly.
- 34:20He's not faking it like Syndrome.
- 34:23But yeah, those characters like, really captured my attention
- 34:27early on, which helped carry the show.
- 34:32There's a couple episodes that really stand out for me that I
- 34:36really enjoy and we'll get into them a little bit later.
- 34:39But for the most part, I I enjoyed the action.
- 34:43I enjoyed the very the very Hans Zimmer Slash Ludwig Gorensen
- 34:50score. Because Oh my God, yes, there's
- 34:52a moment where it sounds like it's like bom bom, so it sounds
- 34:56like Hans Zimmer. It sounds a little bit like the
- 34:59score from Dark Phoenix. Yes, Dark Venix, which is Ron
- 35:03Zimmer. But it also sounds a little bit
- 35:06like the like the score from Tenet, from Ludwig, where it's
- 35:12like and I'm just. Like, that's a very bad
- 35:17interpretation. Yes, it is.
- 35:19But or imitation. Yeah, it's a very bad imitation.
- 35:22Go listen to the real one. But yeah, you can tell it's like
- 35:25heavily inspired by, like, Zimmer and Ludwig Gorenson.
- 35:30I can even see a little bit of the score in Loki.
- 35:33The show, yes, right. Yes, for sure.
- 35:37The cinematography of it, I think it looks beautiful, I
- 35:40think. And it's coherence, thank God.
- 35:43So compared to last week's episode of Ballerina, right?
- 35:49If it was last week, maybe. Yeah, it was.
- 35:51It was. So when you come here to last
- 35:53week's episode of ballerina, which like they're cutting and
- 35:56editing style kind of leaves you confused, This is very clear on
- 36:01how they style the action, how they choreograph everything.
- 36:05You know, where characters are in relation to one another, how
- 36:10tall someone is versus someone else.
- 36:13The way the camera positions it, I thank you also.
- 36:18It looks great. You know, there's one or two
- 36:22moments where the CGI is, you know, a little shaky, but I'm
- 36:26not going to fault it. It's just like one or two
- 36:27moments and that's it. I.
- 36:30Think that's huge coming from you, I know that is.
- 36:32I think the acting is very well for each character's purpose.
- 36:37Because, you know, you have the heartwarming with Kim Bunsuk.
- 36:42You have like the intrigue from, you know, Hulkinex 23.
- 36:47You also have like Frank in the entire like, what is what's
- 36:52behind? What's that?
- 36:53What's behind him, You know, who's in charge of him doing
- 36:57everything that he's doing. He's chasing after these
- 37:00characters. You feel sympathy.
- 37:03Sympathy for a Lee JA man you know or E JA man.
- 37:08Is that how you pronounce it? I.
- 37:09Oh, EJ, man. Yeah, Kim Sung Kyun's character.
- 37:12Yeah, you feel Hulk too, Hulk too.
- 37:15And so you feel sympathy for the characters.
- 37:18You start to care for them with all the machinations that are
- 37:22happening behind the scenes of trying to get after these adult
- 37:27super people who in turn the kids are being affected as well.
- 37:32So overall, really like the show.
- 37:36I I don't really have many negatives really to say about
- 37:40it. I'm so glad.
- 37:43I am thrilled because you know, like and you, the audience know
- 37:48if you've been keeping track. Like, I feel like I've struck
- 37:51out so many times suggesting K dramas to you, and we'll watch
- 37:54them together and review them on the podcast and you're just
- 37:57like, yeah, it was fine, or I didn't like it or whatever, and
- 38:00nothing has beat signal for you. But I knew as soon as I had
- 38:07heard some rumblings that this was going to be a good one, that
- 38:10people were really enjoying this.
- 38:12And then I was like, I think, I think we should watch this.
- 38:16And then it came out that these people were superheroes.
- 38:21I was like, oh, could not be more perfect for Rico to watch
- 38:27this movie, this movie, this show.
- 38:30Because this is your wheelhouse. Like you're an MCU person.
- 38:34You're very invested in sort of this, this genre.
- 38:38And what's a better way to like it would be it's K drama and
- 38:43superheroes. It's like two of our favorite
- 38:46things, right? Yeah, in one child, yeah.
- 38:49And I really enjoyed it. I thought it was very well done.
- 38:54You know what? What the big thing is because
- 38:56sometimes when if you try to do something with superheroes,
- 39:00you're so reliant on the CGI, you know you're trying to do
- 39:04something, you know, fantastical that sometimes story gets
- 39:08ignored and here story was. Not ignored?
- 39:11Yes, that's what's keeping you invested in the show, is the
- 39:15story, yeah. It's I thought this was a
- 39:18character study. Yeah, really, really good job of
- 39:22looking at each character, their motivations, how they got to the
- 39:26point that we're seeing them now.
- 39:28So I so we'll talk about that more, but yeah, I think it is
- 39:34very well done. It's a Tour de force.
- 39:36I'm hearing rumblings of people saying it's the best cage drama
- 39:39of 2023. I honestly think it might be.
- 39:44I think it's up there. I think it's in the
- 39:45conversation. And I hope that when award
- 39:48season comes around next year that it gets nominated.
- 39:51It's already being, you know, thrown around.
- 39:54In certain circles, it's winning some awards.
- 39:56I think Ryu song Ryon, which is Hulk number one, he won a best
- 40:02actor thing recently. I I'm just really thrilled that
- 40:07people have have loved it and are are just rooting for it.
- 40:11Moving became Disney's most watched Korean drama ever in
- 40:15just a week, seven days. Nice.
- 40:18That's really good. It's really great and.
- 40:21I think it would be even more popular than it is had it been
- 40:25on another streaming platform, let's say Netflix.
- 40:30Yeah, I can. Understand.
- 40:31Because it was, yeah. I think it would have been
- 40:34another squid game. Oh, OK.
- 40:37So you think it would have even been that popular?
- 40:40100% in my mind it would have done squid game numbers and.
- 40:46Because it's on Disney Plus, which is not as well established
- 40:49of a streaming platform around the globe as Netflix is, doesn't
- 40:55have as much cloud, doesn't have as much subscribers.
- 40:58And historically the show, the K dramas that have come out on
- 41:01Disney Plus have done OK, but they really haven't had this
- 41:06like staying power that you know Netflix once do right.
- 41:10And I know that in some countries it was split off into
- 41:15a different streaming service, so like here I saw it on Hulu,
- 41:20correct? So.
- 41:21Which is owned by Disney, right? Owned by Disney, but other
- 41:24countries it was Disney Plus that had it on their service and
- 41:28not Hulu. So just that divide also could
- 41:32affect the way a show can gain popularity.
- 41:35Exactly. And over here, not everyone has
- 41:37Hulu. I think more people might have
- 41:39Disney Plus than they do Hulu here in the state.
- 41:42I could be wrong, but. It feels that way, right?
- 41:44It could be close. True, but overseas?
- 41:49I really don't see Disney's trying to become like Netflix
- 41:53overseas, especially with investing in these K dramas.
- 41:56And over time, there's been a bunch.
- 41:58Snowdrop was one that we reviewed.
- 42:00Miguel was on that one. Soundtrack number One Big Mouth
- 42:03kiss Six cents connect with Jong Han Rookie Cops Vigilante, which
- 42:07is coming up with Namju Hilk, Who's in the milk serving in the
- 42:10military right now. So that's a huge deal because
- 42:13he's not even around to promote that, but they're going to
- 42:15release it later this year. The worst of evil.
- 42:19This was huge because that one brought together 2 huge stars.
- 42:24One of them actually was in squid game.
- 42:27That's Oh my God, his name is oh I forget.
- 42:33But anyway, two huge stars and it's an action, Action K drama.
- 42:39And then we have Revenge of Others.
- 42:40Big bet. Lots of Disney Plus shows now
- 42:44moving. I think surpasses them all.
- 42:48OK that's awesome. Surpassing them all, I haven't
- 42:51really got a chance to gone go through the different K dramas
- 42:55that are on there so but if you're saying that it's
- 42:59surpassed them. So good.
- 43:01Like well and I wait. I don't even think I gave my
- 43:04thoughts on the actual show moving, but I love it.
- 43:08I thought it was fantastic. I don't really have a bad thing
- 43:10to say about it either. And yeah, so those are my
- 43:16general thoughts and the other shows I have watched Snowdrop as
- 43:22you don't, as your head drops right now.
- 43:25Because I don't want to get into like, why that show sucks, but
- 43:28it just does. You can listen back to the
- 43:30episode on Snowdrop in the in your podcast feed.
- 43:33But Long story short, moving is sort of a crossover drama to me.
- 43:38It has mass appeal. It had the budget.
- 43:41It had the cast look at the cast that they enticed to be in the
- 43:44show. The script was amazing,
- 43:47airtight. It really was the best of both
- 43:52worlds. Like you had that 40 minute
- 43:54episode, 20 episode length of the show, top cast.
- 44:01I mean, there's a lot. It's has so much going for it.
- 44:04It's perfect. What more can you want?
- 44:06Yeah. So fun fact, baby boy Ichanga
- 44:13our bong sook gained roughly 66 pounds to play.
- 44:17Bong sook. How?
- 44:19Christian Bale of him. Bro, stop it with the Christian
- 44:25Bale because I feel like every other day on Facebook I get
- 44:30those stupid ass posts of people.
- 44:32Make of like, him in every single movie where he's had,
- 44:36like, a drastic physical change. Yeah, I know what you.
- 44:39It's too much. It's too much.
- 44:43But yeah, he goes all out with his roles.
- 44:46Yeah, anyway, Christian Bale was Batman, this man said.
- 44:52I was really happy to be able to eat as we all are.
- 44:57And I was like, that makes it seem like he's not eating like
- 45:02usually. To being pretty slim.
- 45:05He's usually pretty slim, and he said he was disheartened when
- 45:09his friends didn't recognize him in the show.
- 45:13Because he was little chunkers. He was a chunker.
- 45:16Oh. Not even that much.
- 45:17Like, he wasn't even right. It wasn't that much.
- 45:19I mean, he definitely was a, you know, a little bigger, but.
- 45:23Which is also different from K Drums.
- 45:26You have this leading kid who, well, he's not a kid, He's in
- 45:29his 20s, but usually. You have this leading guy.
- 45:33Who is not? He doesn't look like the typical
- 45:36cage on Malid. No, he doesn't.
- 45:38He, he definitely breaks that mold where it's like very thin
- 45:43and athletic, lean. You know, here he is, not those
- 45:50things. No.
- 45:51And but I love that. I think they do a really good
- 45:55job of using him as a character And you know how they use him as
- 45:59a character and how his mom babies him and feeds them all
- 46:03this food, you know, just to keep them down on the ground.
- 46:07On the ground. OK, so I think we would like to
- 46:13get into spoilers at this point, but I'm excited to ask you,
- 46:16Rico, what would you give the show out of five SOLDIER
- 46:18bottles? So out of five soldier bottles,
- 46:22I think I'm going to settle on a four.
- 46:26What? Maybe I don't want to go 4.5
- 46:29like 4.25 out of five. I guess we have to start with
- 46:34the issues that brought your rating down because mine's A5
- 46:37out of five, bruh. Yeah, I don't.
- 46:40So I I wouldn't say it's perfect, but like, that's a
- 46:45really high score. You know, you know, maybe I'll
- 46:48give it a four, I'll get a four and a half and I'll it.
- 46:51It has to do with the ending. OK.
- 46:53Oh yeah, we we should definitely get into.
- 46:55Well, we'll talk about the ending, don't worry.
- 46:57Details here. OK, so that's it this is.
- 47:02Concludes the non spoiler section.
- 47:03We're going to go right into spoilers right after this.
- 47:13You want to come in? All right, we're on the other
- 47:15side of spoilers, so anything goes.
- 47:18Rico, I don't know if you want to start with your issues with
- 47:21the show, whatever those are or if you want to kind of go like
- 47:24character by character or talk about your favorite episodes.
- 47:29What do you want to do? Let's.
- 47:32OK, so let's. Because I'd rather end on a high
- 47:34note than end on a low note. So let's start with like issues
- 47:38and they're very small issues. It's not like giant things.
- 47:43I think that the kids are good. I I do wish that it was a little
- 47:51more centered around who I'm calling X-23.
- 47:57Like, yeah, so that is like the storyline that I'm a little more
- 48:03invested in because there's more mystery behind it to start off
- 48:07with versus having someone who is just.
- 48:11But you mean her story or her dad's story?
- 48:15You mean her story? The two of them, The two of
- 48:17them. I I would say the two of them,
- 48:19because I think that's where you get the most meat off the bone.
- 48:23And I think so. I feel that way because there's
- 48:27a mystery that comes in and maybe it's because it's tied to
- 48:31two of my favorite episodes of the show.
- 48:34So, OK, so. Talk to me.
- 48:36Talk to me. So one of my favorite episodes
- 48:39is episode 5, which is basically the bullying episode, which is
- 48:43the episode where the flashback to where she was at her old
- 48:47school. And I just, I really got
- 48:51invested in the fact that like this girl who was the class
- 48:56president was being bullied for no reason.
- 48:59You know, like you know, the the, the bullies, the girl
- 49:02group, you know, was very abusive to her.
- 49:05They would take her things from her, you know, They would
- 49:09manipulate her to giving away those things.
- 49:13They would intimidate her. Nobody was saying a damn thing.
- 49:18Nobody was even turning an eye over to the situation.
- 49:22And you know, you get this internal monologue that she's
- 49:25saying like, you know, if if an act happens and nobody sees it,
- 49:29then it really happened. You know, she says.
- 49:33And it really culminates when she finally, like with her
- 49:39orange highlighter, just runs it across her book onto the table.
- 49:44She's had enough and she gets up.
- 49:48Hey you outside. Bro doesn't even like say
- 49:52anything else, just says outside.
- 49:55Yes. And then that's when we get the
- 49:58image from the very beginning of the episode where we see her
- 50:01looking at herself in a reflection, where she's all
- 50:03messy, dirty and bloody, and we see how she got there and we see
- 50:07those powers manifest themselves there.
- 50:10Where these girls. Yeah, for the first time
- 50:13because. She didn't know.
- 50:15No, she didn't know that. She was exactly so now, like.
- 50:20She went into that knowing it was 17 to one and she didn't
- 50:24know that she had. No, she was like, I'm, I'm tired
- 50:28of this bullshit. I'm going to stand up for this
- 50:30girl that nobody else is standing up for except for one
- 50:35guy. One guy was like, stop it.
- 50:39Like she had a a box cutter in her hand and so but then like
- 50:44the bully's boyfriend comes and beats the shit out of him.
- 50:47So like, and then even he says something along the lines of
- 50:51just stay quiet. Yeah, it's stupid.
- 50:54I shouldn't have spoke up. It's senior year.
- 50:55We're almost out of here. Yeah.
- 50:58So kind of just this passive nature of like just letting
- 51:02things happen and going about your day and but she was like, I
- 51:08can't do that. I can't.
- 51:10And so then, you know, she fights off these girls.
- 51:12She's healing while she's beating the shit out of these
- 51:16girls. She bites a girl's calf and you
- 51:20know, she gets expelled for, you know, fighting and it affects.
- 51:24She's the only one. She's the only one who gets
- 51:26expelled. Which?
- 51:27Because there's no evidence of any right like and they can't
- 51:31even do the self-defense thing because she has no, that's.
- 51:36The whole thing is that it looks like she beat the shit out of
- 51:39all the girls and not the other way around, right?
- 51:41Exactly, because they were ganging up on her.
- 51:43They were slashing her up, yeah, but they were fucking her up,
- 51:46yeah. And she was bleeding all over
- 51:48like someone. A giant brick, a giant stoned
- 51:52hit her over the head and you see the blood running down her
- 51:54forehead, but like she is just stone cold on the leader of the
- 51:58group. But it comes to a head because
- 52:03then the dad gets affected because now he to so it doesn't
- 52:07he she doesn't go to jail and she there's no prosecution or
- 52:10anything. He basically has to pay off
- 52:12these families. A settlement, yeah.
- 52:14Yeah. He has to sell the home, has to
- 52:16do all these things. But I really love when they're
- 52:20walking out of the school, they're walking through the
- 52:23field. And she asked.
- 52:26Do you, did you know that I was like this?
- 52:29And he says, not until today. And and then it continues.
- 52:37It's like your mom would still, well, she would be proud because
- 52:43you turned out like me. She'd be so happy.
- 52:46Yeah, she'd be so happy because you turned out like me.
- 52:49Someone who stands up, you think he's about to say something
- 52:54else, maybe like, you know you you have a power that I have or
- 52:59something that you turned out like me.
- 53:01But no, he's saying your character is just like mine
- 53:06because I wouldn't have just let that happen.
- 53:09So that was an episode where I was just like, damn, this is a
- 53:13really good episode, really showing not only how she got to
- 53:17where she is now, where she's like doing the tests over and
- 53:20over and trying to get faster, trying to get stronger.
- 53:24But you see where she comes from mentally.
- 53:26Like, you know, if she gets involved in stuff, she's a good
- 53:32person. But if she gets involved, she
- 53:34sees how it can affect people close to her.
- 53:38So that's why she's a little guarded when she first arrives
- 53:41at the school and doesn't really want to like fully show herself
- 53:47to everyone. And I just love that the episode
- 53:50ends with a new student coming to the school and it's the the
- 53:55class president from the old school who was being bullied.
- 53:58She comes to the new school so. Oh, OK.
- 54:01So yeah, so that is one of my which is a.
- 54:03Huge deal because it's their senior year, right?
- 54:05Yeah, they only have a few months left.
- 54:07Yeah. So imagine in the middle of your
- 54:09senior year you get up and go to a different school.
- 54:12So I mean, and then that all the bullet bullying.
- 54:16Does the same thing. Just to be with the person who
- 54:19stood up for her? Yes, exactly.
- 54:21Who risked her life to to stand up to the bullies?
- 54:24Yeah, exactly. So.
- 54:27So that's one of my favorite episodes that.
- 54:29So that really helped me tie with those two characters for
- 54:33sure. And then my other episode.
- 54:37And again, it's still with Hulk. It's episode 10, the monster.
- 54:44Oh, this is fantastic. I love this episode.
- 54:47Yeah, talk to me. This episode is going back in
- 54:50time, showing you how he used his powers back in the day.
- 54:56Yeah, at first he was like basically the the guy in the
- 55:01Mafia who he was, He was the meat shield.
- 55:04He was. He was in the game, yeah.
- 55:06He was in the game. He was the muscle.
- 55:08Yeah, exactly. He was the muscle.
- 55:10That's what I was trying to word.
- 55:13So he was the muscle. And then it gets to the point
- 55:16where he he's done with this mob boss, he's done with it.
- 55:21So. Well, so there's like a merger
- 55:24happening, right? Well, that that's happening
- 55:27later, but before that, like as the episode is showing us, it's
- 55:32it's showing us the, the early part of it where he goes and
- 55:35basically ends like what's happening with the particular
- 55:39mob boss with the glasses, with like he's got like the really,
- 55:44really wide. Cartoonish.
- 55:46Really cartoonish. Lapels on his shirt, the collar,
- 55:51so you know, And then he becomes the boss of this nightclub
- 55:57establishment because, I mean, he becomes a force because he
- 56:01shows that, yeah, you can't kill me, you can stick machetes and
- 56:06knives and everything. That was nuts when he came in to
- 56:09take over that club. Yeah, and he's like.
- 56:11Has like 3 stabs. He like, rips open his stomach
- 56:14and stuff. Yeah, he's like, where's my
- 56:16gallbladder? Like he's trying to, like,
- 56:19pinpoint the fact that he can go into his stomach, try to search
- 56:23for something. You can't kill him.
- 56:25Like he's scaring the guy on purpose to get him to sign the
- 56:28papers. And what's cool about the
- 56:30character that you find out is that he doesn't care about the
- 56:33money. No, he does not.
- 56:36He's not in the gang to make money.
- 56:38And that was something that his superior was saying.
- 56:40He's like, we're all in this to make money.
- 56:42That's the whole point of us being in this gang.
- 56:44And he's like, that's not why I'm in the gang.
- 56:47It's about protecting my my friends, the boys, yeah.
- 56:51It's his family, this adopted family that he has loyalty,
- 56:55right? Because the mob is messing
- 56:57around with peoples in in the different territories.
- 57:00So he's doing it for that. But what I like about the
- 57:02episode is that it is taking that and it's juxtaposing it
- 57:07with a different time in his life.
- 57:09That is like almost immediately after that.
- 57:12It's not in the present, it's like.
- 57:13Several months after, right? So like, you keep jumping back
- 57:16and forth between this man who seemingly is on top and then
- 57:22this in the next moment we see him.
- 57:25Sort of a neutered, yeah, like getting run over by hidden run,
- 57:29but he's doing it just so he can settle money right there on the
- 57:31spot. Yeah, that's his income.
- 57:34Yeah, that's his income. Exactly.
- 57:36So, you know, and then finally the the episode like kind of
- 57:40hits you in the middle of like here was the rise and here was
- 57:44the fall and the fact that these two mob bosses, the one that he
- 57:50was a part of originally, turns out that he was sacrificing him
- 57:56and sending him in. But at the end they they still
- 58:01did their merger because it was about the money at the end of
- 58:05the day. Yeah, and of course there are
- 58:08consequences when you go and you don't say yes, you, you decide
- 58:16no, and then you, you, one of your associates goes ahead and
- 58:21betrays the. The betrayal from the friend.
- 58:24Like, took me out, brah. Yeah man, just a pure betrayal,
- 58:29which really sucks. And you're still not going to
- 58:33kill him even if you tie him up the scene.
- 58:35Of them, like tying him up and then making, but they they put
- 58:40him in the car. They were on one of those
- 58:41barges? Yep.
- 58:44And they dumped the car. They dumped the car with him.
- 58:47Sea or something. Yeah.
- 58:49I was like, no, they did not. Yeah, they did.
- 58:55Sleeping with the fishes? Yeah.
- 59:00So yeah, they tried. With the gang shit, yeah.
- 59:02So they tried to get him to sleep with the fishes, but he
- 59:05was like, no, no, no, I'm not tired yet.
- 59:09So he goes and he breaks his thumb so he could get out of the
- 59:13handcuffs. He rips off the head seat so he
- 59:16could get the rope around his neck off.
- 59:19And then they cut to him in the club again, murder a bunch of
- 59:23people and his former friend on his knees begging him for his
- 59:28life. Yeah, it it's.
- 59:32A little similarity here with ballerina because both that
- 59:36betrayal. That that friend that betrayed
- 59:38him in the gang and the villain in Ballerina have like the sides
- 59:43of their mouth cut. Yes, I.
- 59:46Don't know what that was about, but yeah, for some reason they
- 59:49they like like that that Joker scar.
- 59:52Yeah, I don't know how I got these scars.
- 59:55So. So those are two of my favorite
- 59:58episodes. No, but you didn't.
- 59:59Oh my God, you skipped this whole thing in episode 10.
- 1:00:02Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Where two things.
- 1:00:05Sun one is the sunfish. What do you think of the
- 1:00:07sunfish? Like the?
- 1:00:09Which was swimming throughout the episode and that's his
- 1:00:12favorite fish to eat, like the dish that he kept wanting to
- 1:00:14eat. And it wasn't customary to eat
- 1:00:17this in this new city that the gang was in.
- 1:00:20I I want to say that it was kind of his.
- 1:00:26Spirit animal, yes. Yeah.
- 1:00:29I don't know what the significance of a sunfish is to
- 1:00:35different people or maybe to that community, so I'm not sure.
- 1:00:39But it could be his spirit animal.
- 1:00:40It could. Be It's a giant fish.
- 1:00:42Have you ever seen a sunfish? It's a it's a giant fish.
- 1:00:44It's. Huge, yeah.
- 1:00:46I had in that moment where he's in the water and he hears the
- 1:00:50fish, it it felt to me like a Man of Steel.
- 1:00:54Where? Where?
- 1:00:56Clark Kent after he saved all those people from that oil rig?
- 1:01:00He's like laying in the water and he just sees the whale, just
- 1:01:03like. Oh my God.
- 1:01:05Swimming by. You're right.
- 1:01:07Yeah, it's very similar to that. But yeah, so I.
- 1:01:13Stopped drawing comparisons to the plethora of superhero movies
- 1:01:16that we've watched in our lifetime.
- 1:01:18I know there's so many. There's too many.
- 1:01:20Too many anyway. But I want to go back in the
- 1:01:24episode though, because you can clearly see that he he does have
- 1:01:29a heart of gold when after his fall after he is down on the
- 1:01:33dumps like he's. Living in that Moto?
- 1:01:36Yeah, exactly. Where he he can only pay 1A week
- 1:01:38because once a week because he has to get money to do it, yeah.
- 1:01:43But he meets his wife here. What do you think of his
- 1:01:46romance? See, I I I like it because I
- 1:01:49like that it is not the most common way of meeting someone.
- 1:01:54No, pretty unconventional. Yes, very unconventional.
- 1:01:58But he's so cute. He is so cute, 'cause he sees
- 1:02:04her and oh she she was getting hassled by these assholes in the
- 1:02:08same hallway as him. At first.
- 1:02:11And she just takes care of it herself.
- 1:02:12But he was ready to like jump in.
- 1:02:14Like he had opened his door and was like about to come out.
- 1:02:16And then he's like, Oh no, no, she's got it and came back
- 1:02:19inside. And then later he starts trying
- 1:02:22to get her to come and bring the coffee, deliver the coffee,
- 1:02:25which I had never heard of this service before.
- 1:02:28But if, I don't know, it's the 90s and I don't know anything
- 1:02:30about Korea in the 90s, That's true.
- 1:02:33I was like this is strange but anyway the delivery like Uber
- 1:02:37eats now. No, but she comes in and makes
- 1:02:40the coffee for him. Oh yeah, that's right.
- 1:02:41You're right. Never mind.
- 1:02:43And all of the all of the people that come, the ladies that come
- 1:02:47look a little like, I don't know, they're like flirtatious
- 1:02:51and they. Ask if they want if he wants a
- 1:02:53ticket. Right, there's a.
- 1:02:56There's a little hint. It's like an of.
- 1:02:59Undercurrent of like sex work. I don't know if that's.
- 1:03:03Accurate, but that is what I it's a hint because if you look
- 1:03:07at, if you go back to the argument in the hallway with the
- 1:03:11other patron, like he says 10,000, he's.
- 1:03:16Trying to pay her to to sleep right their their dollars.
- 1:03:21I'm not sure how. 01 one 10,001 for a cup of coffee.
- 1:03:26Like there's no way it's that. Like, that was the charge that
- 1:03:29she was saying. And so then like, she explains,
- 1:03:31like First off it's two cups, That's the minimum order.
- 1:03:36And then with the service fee and everything, it's 10,000.
- 1:03:39But when she gets up, like just the way she's dressed with the
- 1:03:44hoop earrings and all that and made-up little chunga.
- 1:03:47Yeah, little chunga. So you know, you there's an
- 1:03:50undercurrent there. Obviously it's not explicit or
- 1:03:53anything, but you can tell like there is a type of service where
- 1:03:59they masquerade. I don't know if it's guaranteed,
- 1:04:03like if you order coffee 100% like you saw.
- 1:04:06You see what I'm saying? So I think there's kind of.
- 1:04:09If they offer, great. But I guess If not, then you're
- 1:04:12just getting coffee, right? I don't know.
- 1:04:14I think it's it's not explained. It's very well at all.
- 1:04:17It's probably a special type of service of like, hey, we have
- 1:04:22beautiful women who can make you coffee.
- 1:04:24Right. I think that's the appeal.
- 1:04:26That's the appeal, like, and and some people probably read too
- 1:04:31much into it and think that it's something more.
- 1:04:35Do you know what I mean? I don't know.
- 1:04:36Maybe the people do. Like what I'm saying is the
- 1:04:39people ordering or maybe coming to the conclusion of, hey, maybe
- 1:04:45these pretty women coming to make coffee, they're not just
- 1:04:49going to make coffee, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:04:52So May, and then we're going to see the prize.
- 1:04:59I'm so, I'm so sorry I did that. I don't know.
- 1:05:03So, but what I like is he, what does he order like 5 different
- 1:05:10coffees just to get her to deliver it?
- 1:05:12Right. Exactly, exactly.
- 1:05:15You know, don't forget to put cream in it.
- 1:05:19So yeah, so, so those two episodes right there.
- 1:05:24No, but when he cleaned up the little apartment that he's in
- 1:05:26and stuff like that was like after he complained, like you
- 1:05:31guys don't even clean it. And he's like and the the woman
- 1:05:34is like you're living there. We don't offer that for long
- 1:05:38term. You want your room clean?
- 1:05:40Go stay in a hotel. Because he was like trying to
- 1:05:44like haggle, I guess on the price of the the room.
- 1:05:47And he was like, you don't even come and clean the room.
- 1:05:51I don't know. I could see it both ways, but I
- 1:05:53see what you're saying, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:05:54Anyway, I really like this, this love story because it's not,
- 1:05:58it's unconventional and she's sort of a hard on him and it
- 1:06:03takes a few of these coffee dates for her to, like figure
- 1:06:06him out for her to for him to figure her out.
- 1:06:10He like what it, what is it? I think we're in episode 11
- 1:06:13actually. But you know, he closes the
- 1:06:15window because she's cold and he, like always has it open.
- 1:06:19Yeah. He talked to her about Hulk
- 1:06:21Hogan and martial arts novels, and that these novels are
- 1:06:26actually romantic and they have happy endings and the hero gets
- 1:06:30the girl at the end of these stories and stuff and just
- 1:06:34sharing interests with each other, like true dates, you
- 1:06:37know? Exactly.
- 1:06:39And again, I know. And then he turns off the TV
- 1:06:42because she doesn't seem to like it when the TV is on.
- 1:06:44Like he's learning her and he's very considerate.
- 1:06:48And it's so cute. I don't know, like, it's really
- 1:06:52cute. But going back to episode
- 1:06:54episode 10, he when he gets lost, yes, at night trying to
- 1:07:01find the motel and he cries when he sees her again on the moped.
- 1:07:07I was almost in tears. I it was so shockingly endearing
- 1:07:13and he just says I can't find my way.
- 1:07:16Literally and figuratively. Because without the gang, he
- 1:07:19feels lost without purpose or direction in life and he's doing
- 1:07:23these stupid things to get money.
- 1:07:27Literally putting himself in harm's way to get money.
- 1:07:30And then he's also lost, like literally he cannot find his way
- 1:07:35out of this maze like, you know, suburban area or urban area and.
- 1:07:43I just felt for him immediately. Like, did you feel for the like,
- 1:07:47I was completely sold on this dude.
- 1:07:49I was like in his corner 110%, yeah.
- 1:07:52Because you can tell that even when he was part of the Mafia or
- 1:07:56the OR the gang, there was never like a sense of like he's doing
- 1:08:01it to be, you know, he's not trying to do a put on of like,
- 1:08:07oh, I'm a mafia. So I'm like, you know, he's
- 1:08:10never doing it for the intention of getting rich.
- 1:08:13Or, you know, he's just doing it for protecting people because
- 1:08:17that's what his natural, you know, inclination is.
- 1:08:22He's a protector. He's a protector.
- 1:08:25So that's what he wanted to do in that game.
- 1:08:29He wanted to protect his own people.
- 1:08:31And now that he has no people to protect, he doesn't view himself
- 1:08:35valuable as he does other people.
- 1:08:38He always values the other more than himself.
- 1:08:41So if he doesn't have anyone to protect, what is he protecting?
- 1:08:46Right. Oh, I got nothing to add to
- 1:08:49that, Nothing to add to that at all.
- 1:08:50That was perfect. Episode 11.
- 1:08:52The one in the hallway, Yes. The one in the hallway.
- 1:08:56Yes, yes, yes. Tell me they did not try and
- 1:09:00pull a Netflix on Netflix They. Like, this is like double
- 1:09:04dutching on Netflix to me. Yeah, I think they it's man,
- 1:09:09it's a really good job. It's such a great sequence.
- 1:09:12And then the chase sequence afterward is great.
- 1:09:15When he's like running around on foot, they're like trying to
- 1:09:18drive him down. I mean, it's so compelling.
- 1:09:23It is really compelling. They do a really good job with
- 1:09:26this episode. Yeah.
- 1:09:27And just this entire action sequence.
- 1:09:30I think that's one thing I will give the show is that just about
- 1:09:33all of their action sequences are just so well done.
- 1:09:37Well done, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:09:39I don't really have any complaints for them.
- 1:09:41Again, I mentioned it before, they're coherent is it's the big
- 1:09:44thing which a lot of directors just in general like to do all
- 1:09:50this fancy editing around it and you don't need to.
- 1:09:54Yeah, have a medium shot and let us see where they're going.
- 1:09:58Show me what's going on. See who they're punching, you
- 1:10:01know? See how they're reacting to the
- 1:10:02punch? That's what I want.
- 1:10:04And the show. The show delivers with that.
- 1:10:08She saves him on the moped again and repeats the line that he
- 1:10:15said back to her earlier, because initially, well, they're
- 1:10:19sitting in the coffee with the coffee in his room.
- 1:10:22She asked him why haven't you asked me why I'm doing this, why
- 1:10:25I'm like a coffee girl? And he told her, you must have
- 1:10:30had a reason. And basically just gives her the
- 1:10:33benefit of the doubt. And if she doesn't want to share
- 1:10:35it, she doesn't have to share it.
- 1:10:37And with all of the chaos, pure chaos that's happening, a couple
- 1:10:43of action sequences later, she saves his ass.
- 1:10:46And he basically asked her like, why aren't you asking me what
- 1:10:49the fuck's going on? And she says, you must have had
- 1:10:52a reason. Yes, I was like, this is cinema.
- 1:10:58Like, I love it. Yeah, trust.
- 1:11:01That they built over time, and they've just endeared themselves
- 1:11:07to one another. And at the end he finally comes
- 1:11:10back after he's been recruited by that asshole in the in the
- 1:11:13NIS. Or at that point it was ANSP.
- 1:11:18He's, he tells her in the coffee.
- 1:11:22I think it was a coffee shop. Still, he tells her I'm still
- 1:11:25bad at finding my way. I just tried to find you so bad.
- 1:11:32She's like, that's smooth. Like even she says something to
- 1:11:34that effect. He's got the Rizz.
- 1:11:37Godly. Yeah.
- 1:11:39So I love them. So what are your favorite
- 1:11:41episodes? Well, Episode.
- 1:11:43So it still has to do with Hulk. Hulk number one.
- 1:11:47That's what I thought. Let me see.
- 1:11:51I think it's episode 13 it when she dies.
- 1:11:59I was. I was just crying into my bowl
- 1:12:02of cereal. Heartbreaking her death, his
- 1:12:06wailing in the in the funeral when he's like changing into the
- 1:12:10funeral clothes and stuff and he just cannot stop crying and
- 1:12:14wailing. I felt his pain.
- 1:12:18He was whimpering at one point. I was like, Oh my God, like it
- 1:12:23was heart wrenching. Tore me up.
- 1:12:28And I also liked how in this episode we got to see an
- 1:12:32evolution of their of their family because it was just them
- 1:12:34at 1st and he had this cushy, not cushy, but he had a job
- 1:12:37study job with the government and she was, I think it was
- 1:12:42every month they were having BBQ at the house.
- 1:12:46Do you remember this? Yes.
- 1:12:50And she finally reveals to him like, oh, you're not going to be
- 1:12:53home for, you know? Barbecue tonight and he says no,
- 1:12:57but we can have BBQ next time, next month or whatever.
- 1:13:01And she goes. The only reason why I wanted you
- 1:13:04here in the in the house to have BBQ once a month.
- 1:13:07We can have BBQ at any time, but today is my ovulation day and
- 1:13:14it's revealed she's been trying to get pregnant this whole time.
- 1:13:17Yeah, wants to get pregnant. So fertility issues are brought
- 1:13:22up in the show briefly, like they don't linger on it, but.
- 1:13:26No, but that's enough for her to be like I was hoping to get
- 1:13:30pregnant on these BBQ nights because, you know, I'm the most
- 1:13:36fertile today. I was shocked that they even
- 1:13:40went this far. Yeah, this show contains a lot,
- 1:13:45You know, like they're, you know, something that really
- 1:13:49stands out to me is like they allow for the male characters to
- 1:13:54really emote. They they get to show their
- 1:13:59emotions, whether they're angry, they're sad, they're frustrated,
- 1:14:05you get to see it. So like, obviously their example
- 1:14:08with Hulk or he's crying, whimpering after the death of
- 1:14:12his wife. Another example is later on in,
- 1:14:17I want to say it's episode 19. Yeah, episode 19 where you have
- 1:14:23the the bad guys who are fighting at the school against
- 1:14:28the adults. The last few episodes is a fight
- 1:14:33at the school. Yeah, it is.
- 1:14:34That's like a downright brawl. It really is.
- 1:14:37And it lasts for several hours. It it does so Hulk is facing
- 1:14:41basically a bigger Hulk. Yeah, and but that bigger Hulk
- 1:14:46has a connection with the dude who's like kind of controls the
- 1:14:51weather in a way. Controls the weather.
- 1:14:54That controls the weather. Sorry, but like it looked like
- 1:14:57he was controlling the weather. Just.
- 1:14:58Because, oh, he had like, a clap.
- 1:14:59Yeah, he had like this clap that just would send.
- 1:15:01Like Supersonic Clap? Yeah, pretty much.
- 1:15:04But there was a connection between the two and after the
- 1:15:08Sonic Clap guy dies. Like he breaks down.
- 1:15:14I know what he cries like and you see, like the connection
- 1:15:19that they had, Like, you know, he was a guard and he was a
- 1:15:22prisoner. Well, that's the thing, you
- 1:15:24know, helps him escape and all this stuff.
- 1:15:27The thing is, like the show gives you character studies for
- 1:15:31each and every fucking character, and the Sonic Clap
- 1:15:34guy had a whole history that we got to see where he was in a
- 1:15:38North Korean concentration camp in a fucking hole in a
- 1:15:44mountainside somewhere. And that's where he grew up,
- 1:15:47because he's a survivor. Maybe his powers just gave him
- 1:15:51that extra resilience and he survived where others were
- 1:15:55constantly dying of malnutrition, of exposure, of
- 1:15:59whatever in the jail. And the scene of them, like
- 1:16:04opening up the the cell to reveal this decomposing body
- 1:16:08right there at the entrance. And then he's huddled in the
- 1:16:10corner as a child. How can you not feel bad?
- 1:16:16For this Sonic clap guy, even though he's trying to take down
- 1:16:18your favorite hero characters in South Korea like that is
- 1:16:23incredible that you have so much growth and so much back story
- 1:16:29and and just they built these characters right brick by brick.
- 1:16:34You're feeling some type of way about these characters and how
- 1:16:37they go out because a Sonic clap guy, what, he's a victim.
- 1:16:42He's a victim of the of the ongoing war between North and
- 1:16:45South Korea. Of the dictatorship in North
- 1:16:48Korea. And his whole family was
- 1:16:51slaughtered. And he's alone and they have to
- 1:16:53put sunglasses on him because he's like a a mole down there.
- 1:16:57Can't adjust to the light anymore.
- 1:17:02Nuts. Yeah, nuts.
- 1:17:04You sympathize with characters. You empathize for characters.
- 1:17:08Yeah, they do. An amazing And so that the Hulk,
- 1:17:11The North Korean Hulk, Yes, you feel bad for that too.
- 1:17:15That dude too, because you saw him climbing up a sheer
- 1:17:21mountainside trying to get back up to, I guess, the chief of the
- 1:17:27of this division, the Super division.
- 1:17:31But he died. Like he effectively died because
- 1:17:33he was. They were all pushed off the
- 1:17:36Cliff to see if they had powers. Wild ass way to test if they
- 1:17:42have powers, But all of his comrades were murdered and he
- 1:17:48died. And then he came back and
- 1:17:50started climbing up. There was no other way.
- 1:17:52They weren't going to go get him, no.
- 1:17:55It, I mean, and it also showed it's incredible it, but it also
- 1:18:00shows the way that the two countries deal with, you know,
- 1:18:05super powered people where you know.
- 1:18:09Neither way is great. Neither way is great.
- 1:18:12That's the that's the worst part of it is that neither way is
- 1:18:15great because all these kids have to hide in secret.
- 1:18:20You know they can't show their powers.
- 1:18:23You know you have the parents that are doing everything they
- 1:18:25can to protect them. You have government agencies
- 1:18:29tracking and hunting the Super powered people down, which is
- 1:18:34why I said damn, this is the X-Men.
- 1:18:37Like these are super powered people who in the face of
- 1:18:41society are not fully accepted. And government agencies either
- 1:18:46want mutants, they're mutants. They either want to hunt them
- 1:18:48down to kill them or they want to experiment on them and use
- 1:18:51them as weapons. So yeah, So either way, like the
- 1:18:57way they're treated just in general, by society, by each
- 1:19:02other, by the nature of these governments and what they want
- 1:19:06to use them for, it sucks for them.
- 1:19:09And the kids didn't ask for that life.
- 1:19:12No, none of them did. No, none of them did.
- 1:19:14But they have to make do the best they can with the.
- 1:19:18They have to survive. They have to survive.
- 1:19:20Yeah, yeah. So my favorite episodes had to
- 1:19:25do with Hulk and X23. Although I I really, I love
- 1:19:32that. I love that you adopted the
- 1:19:34name. Well, I'm not going to sit here
- 1:19:36and try and remember it because I'll remember their real name
- 1:19:39and not their character name and vice versa.
- 1:19:41And then it gets confusing. So and then if you've never
- 1:19:45watched a show, but you're listening to the spoiler
- 1:19:47section, like you don't know who the hell I'm talking about.
- 1:19:49So yeah, it's a little easier. But episode 12, bro, we got to
- 1:19:54see the dynamic duo. We got to see Hulk and Superman.
- 1:19:59On a couple of their missions and how the two men met, how
- 1:20:03they work together. This is something that is
- 1:20:06missing from so many shows, from so many friendships.
- 1:20:11Consider Star Wars prequel. This is like that in between
- 1:20:17stuff like how they kind of work together, how they met.
- 1:20:21All this stuff in between, they're not just talking, like,
- 1:20:24remember that job in Argentina? Blah, blah.
- 1:20:26That was a crazy job. We don't get none of that
- 1:20:28change. No, no, no.
- 1:20:28We're there in Argentina with yet.
- 1:20:31That's what I mean. Yes, that's what I love when
- 1:20:34they do that. Because there's so many movies
- 1:20:37that'll be like, remember that time where we it's like just
- 1:20:41show us the damn thing. Just show us.
- 1:20:43Don't tell us. Show us.
- 1:20:44Don't tell us, show us. So it's just a little side
- 1:20:47tangent that I wanted to say real quick.
- 1:20:50So like there was a recent show just now on Disney plus Ahsoka
- 1:20:54where the the season was only 8 episodes long for for no reason
- 1:20:59at all. Like it was short for what?
- 1:21:02I thought it was because there were episodes that you could
- 1:21:05have shown us things that you didn't get to show us either
- 1:21:09with this show or even with the show that preceded it, Rebels
- 1:21:13where a lot of characters came from.
- 1:21:15So like you could have shown us like.
- 1:21:17Ezra and Thron, how did they end up on that planet?
- 1:21:21Show us, you know, instead of like, oh, I've been here a long
- 1:21:25time, you know, and like, OK, what did you do in that time?
- 1:21:29Like how did you get away from Thron that he's not chasing you?
- 1:21:34Like, so show us that. Like I see what you're saying.
- 1:21:36You know, Star Wars is a big, grand example of what not to do.
- 1:21:41And moving this show really came through.
- 1:21:45And you see this dynamic, this bromance that they have together
- 1:21:50and the bond that they share. It's palpable.
- 1:21:53And you're rooting for them and you want, you're wanting to know
- 1:21:56what the fuck happened to Choyan Sung's character, Superman,
- 1:22:02right? Because in this episode, it's
- 1:22:04unclear if Superman went to kill the North Korean dictator or
- 1:22:07not. Then you find out what the fuck
- 1:22:10happened in North Korea later and it's so cool.
- 1:22:14It really is also going back to family because I mentioned
- 1:22:21infertility issues earlier with Hulk and his wife.
- 1:22:25Not that they had infertility issues, they just didn't.
- 1:22:28I don't know what was going on because if she was having sex on
- 1:22:31her ovulation day and nothing was happening, I don't know,
- 1:22:33maybe she did have infertility issues.
- 1:22:35But you never see in K dramas, they cover the newborn era in a
- 1:22:43family with a family, right? Actually, the act of actually
- 1:22:48starting a family of, you know, changing dirty diapers and
- 1:22:53things like that, you see kids in K dramas, but they're already
- 1:22:56grown and talking and the family unit is already built.
- 1:22:59But you don't ever see two people coming together to get
- 1:23:03get married, be together and partner together in child
- 1:23:07rearing. That's really unique.
- 1:23:10And it's heartwarming to see both couples, Superman and
- 1:23:14Hulk's families, get started and how they're like staying up late
- 1:23:18and the baby's crying and you know it.
- 1:23:21That's cool. It's different and it's
- 1:23:25character building as well. The character building, world
- 1:23:29building in this show is man, it's so strong.
- 1:23:34Like you could put it up against a lot of different other, like,
- 1:23:39you know, types of properties where they're trying to build a
- 1:23:42world and a lot of them fail where moving succeeds, like, Oh
- 1:23:47yeah. Yeah, they do a great job.
- 1:23:48Now the fact that they had 20 episodes to do it is really
- 1:23:52good. So you have time to fill so you
- 1:23:54could back story stuff for sure. For sure versus.
- 1:23:57You know, shows nowadays are only like. 6810 episode
- 1:24:02miniseries and it's like you're not going to get the full depth
- 1:24:07and scope of the characters if you're rushing through from
- 1:24:11point A to point B. Here the show does not rush from
- 1:24:15point A to point B. He takes us on little side
- 1:24:18adventures. Oh, you want to know what Hulk
- 1:24:21was like when he was younger? Here it is.
- 1:24:24And do you want to know these different adventures?
- 1:24:26Here they are. Or Pokémon the Electricity dude.
- 1:24:29Yes, electricity, dude. You find out about this bus
- 1:24:32driver who has like a very small part in the final episode but is
- 1:24:36like a recurring character. And you're also rooting for him.
- 1:24:39And you're wondering, is he ever going to use his powers?
- 1:24:42Because they they, you know, kind of go about it like at one
- 1:24:47point Frank is leaving the building and.
- 1:24:53Electricity man's in the building with like a little
- 1:24:55battery in his hand but he's like, but what was cool about
- 1:24:59the batteries was that contain memories.
- 1:25:02That was cool too. Yeah, that's a cool thing to
- 1:25:05show us. And and so, like, he is so like,
- 1:25:09you know, emotional at that moment that it's like flickering
- 1:25:14with the lights of the entire building.
- 1:25:16So like, you're kind of waiting and they're building up that
- 1:25:19character. When is he finally going to
- 1:25:22unleash this power? And he does in a really
- 1:25:26satisfying way. Yes, exactly.
- 1:25:29Do you want to talk about Frank and how he was basically stolen
- 1:25:33to the US? Yes, we have to.
- 1:25:35OK, OK, talk about Frank. Go go for.
- 1:25:37It no, no, no. Like, lead us in, I'll jump in.
- 1:25:40So there's this character named Frank.
- 1:25:43Who is the assassin sent by you don't know.
- 1:25:45You don't know. They figured you find you find
- 1:25:47out it's the US and he starts assassinating all of the supers.
- 1:25:53Right, exactly. And he gets a back story.
- 1:25:57It's like, you'll get a back story and you'll get a back
- 1:25:59story. You'll get a back story.
- 1:26:02He gets a back story. And it's very interesting.
- 1:26:06He was stolen as a child. He was a a kid out of wedlock.
- 1:26:10His mother was like a bar singer.
- 1:26:13And he, I think, was also the son of AUS military service.
- 1:26:20Member I think it was, yeah, I was in stationed in Korea.
- 1:26:24So they find out he has powers or something and they just ship
- 1:26:29him right off to is it Idaho or Iowa?
- 1:26:33It was Iowa. It was Iowa, right, with the
- 1:26:37cornfields. Yep, Iowa.
- 1:26:40And they start training them brutally.
- 1:26:42The scene of him running through and like having one on ones with
- 1:26:45the other kids and fighting to the death, like battle Royale
- 1:26:49style. Yeah, you're just shocked.
- 1:26:53Like I'm looking around like where's the camera, Office
- 1:26:56style. And it does explain the fact
- 1:26:58that, like, early on, before you know him, like he's talking crap
- 1:27:04to that superhero guy, the first one that he kills, and he's like
- 1:27:08talking in English. And you're like, yeah,
- 1:27:10interesting that he's speaking English, because nobody else in
- 1:27:15this show has. Any inkling of speaking any
- 1:27:18English? And here's this character.
- 1:27:21So it does bring a bit of intrigue.
- 1:27:23Like, OK, where is he from? Who is he working for?
- 1:27:27What are his powers so? And they you figure it out.
- 1:27:30Yeah, they they. So I really enjoyed that about a
- 1:27:35character like this. And then they also planted the
- 1:27:37seed for possible Season 2, right?
- 1:27:39Yes, they did. And his age, whatever agency
- 1:27:42he's a part of, because there's other kids in this program that
- 1:27:47have powers and he's only F for Frank.
- 1:27:52Exactly. So there's also like, what was
- 1:27:54the end of this show? They had that post credits scene
- 1:27:58E for Elias. E for Elias, another super,
- 1:28:03super agent that gets called in, We have to call from the US.
- 1:28:07So the US is like an antagonist, right?
- 1:28:09Like, yeah, they're the they want to be the only people that
- 1:28:11have supers. Exactly.
- 1:28:13And also that leads into. Man, too many comparisons with
- 1:28:17X-Men. I'm so sorry, but like, wait,
- 1:28:20wait, wait. Before you make comparisons,
- 1:28:22hold that thought. Hold that thought because Frank
- 1:28:24also represents, like, Finding Your Roots and the adoption
- 1:28:29story of so many people in Korea.
- 1:28:31Because Korea, as a lot of you guys know, is the number one
- 1:28:34exporter of babies. Oh man.
- 1:28:37And so there's a lot of adoption stories that are extremely
- 1:28:43moving, no pun intended. And Frank represents this like
- 1:28:47subset to people who are yearning for connection,
- 1:28:50yearning to know where they came from, who their parents are.
- 1:28:54And at the end, in the post credits scene, you see him, he's
- 1:28:57missing like Mia, but he's really tracing his roots back to
- 1:29:02that club that his mother used to sing at and who knows where
- 1:29:05that is going to lead. Yeah, in a possible season too,
- 1:29:09right? So it's interesting.
- 1:29:12It it really is, it's covering so much.
- 1:29:14And. Just to go back to that point
- 1:29:17that I was going to say because like you said F for Frank and
- 1:29:21there's like E for Elias. It does remind me of when the
- 1:29:26company I'm, I can't remember the name of the company, but the
- 1:29:30company that is trying to use the mutant DNA to create mutants
- 1:29:36and that's where X-23 comes from, because they number them
- 1:29:40X1X2 and all that, so. X-23 is the 23rd iteration of
- 1:29:45the mutant that they they assembled, so there's a
- 1:29:50similarity there. Also, there's a similarity kind
- 1:29:53of in using using someone from a, you know, from a different
- 1:30:00country and having them come back and do all these types of
- 1:30:04work. The Winter Soldier.
- 1:30:07Type of like scenario, right, right.
- 1:30:09You know, like, so there's like similarities there.
- 1:30:12That is very similar to Winter Soldier, yeah?
- 1:30:15So, yeah, this show. OK, so Frank is Winter Soldier.
- 1:30:18Frank's The Winter Soldier. Trying to remember his past.
- 1:30:22Trying to remember his past. Oh my God, it's too perfect.
- 1:30:25Yes. Yeah, so, so we got The Winter
- 1:30:27Soldier, we got Hulk, we got X-23.
- 1:30:29We got so many people. OK, let's do two more
- 1:30:34backstories and then let's jump into end game episodes.
- 1:30:37OK, so I think the most, the most or not the most, the best
- 1:30:43parts of Han Yoju are when Bong Sok is a child.
- 1:30:49OK, yes. And you see her in the snow and
- 1:30:52she's carrying him on on her back and she's got like this
- 1:30:56rolling bag and it's it's like very overwhelming.
- 1:31:01The conditions are crazy and she's tired.
- 1:31:06Yeah, you know, she's put in everything to just keep them
- 1:31:10alive and surviving and that moment when he starts to float
- 1:31:15in the restaurant. And she, like, puts a foot down
- 1:31:19on the chair and puts them back on the ground.
- 1:31:20And she says, Mom's tired. Like, I just felt that deep in
- 1:31:26my bones. Everyone, poor one out for your
- 1:31:28mom. Yes, because they are
- 1:31:31superheroes. Like I think this show is really
- 1:31:34sheds also the theme of women. Mothers are superheroes and
- 1:31:39fathers are superheroes. Like parents are everything.
- 1:31:44They don't have to have super powers to be super.
- 1:31:47Exactly. Exactly.
- 1:31:50Every single parent. Every single mom and dad out
- 1:31:53there. Like they're doing miracle work
- 1:31:56every day. Yeah.
- 1:31:58Yeah, the good ones, 'cause I know there's horror stories and
- 1:32:00everyone's got their issues. I I totally get that.
- 1:32:03But, you know, yes, but I think Hanyuju excels when the child,
- 1:32:08when Bong Sook is a child and when he's already grown, she's
- 1:32:13still great, but she doesn't have like moments to shine like
- 1:32:15she does when she's like teaching him how to walk without
- 1:32:19floating and, you know, being on her guard.
- 1:32:23And it's very it's very much that I think everyone felt
- 1:32:29something when she was just breaking down from the heaviness
- 1:32:37of the situation, losing her husband and having to be a
- 1:32:41single mom. Yeah, And they bring that that
- 1:32:47visual moment, full circle where she's carrying him, and then he
- 1:32:52gets to return the favor of carrying her.
- 1:32:57I had this in my notes as well because I it's very emotional
- 1:33:05for me. I don't know why the full circle
- 1:33:07moment with the the piggyback ride really got me, but the
- 1:33:10reciprocation is precious. This is in the very last
- 1:33:14episode. The child she's so dearly raised
- 1:33:18and protected is now protecting her.
- 1:33:21Exactly. And just as she suffered in the
- 1:33:24snow carrying him on her back, now he carries her and she just
- 1:33:27Mumbles like my son is all grown up now.
- 1:33:31But she actually uses the word udi udi which means our like us.
- 1:33:38Ah, OK, she says. Like our son is all grown up
- 1:33:41now. Gotcha.
- 1:33:43So, like, I guess talking about like she's almost like she's
- 1:33:48talking to her, her husband. Her husband who's missing.
- 1:33:52Yes, I love it. Don't you love it?
- 1:33:58It's great. It's great stuff.
- 1:34:00It's great stuff. All right, Precious, any other
- 1:34:04characters you want to go over? Did we want to talk about Kim
- 1:34:08Sung Kyun Hulk #2? Hulk #2, because, bro, that
- 1:34:13story was also, like, really emotional.
- 1:34:15And he is such a loving father. He really is such a loving
- 1:34:23father in a very different way than the others and it I think I
- 1:34:29was almost moved to tears again when he comes back after that
- 1:34:31big brawl with the protest that was broken up by the police and
- 1:34:36his wife was like taken away in the Paddy wagon and like he
- 1:34:41starts a fight with the. Cops don't mess with his family,
- 1:34:46man, bro. Do not mess with his family.
- 1:34:51He comes back after this whole brawl where he ends up in the
- 1:34:55sewer system. They save a child.
- 1:34:59They got sucked into the sewers. I mean it was it was extensive.
- 1:35:04But he ends up back home and his little boy is sitting there just
- 1:35:08waiting for him and he's like, I'm so sorry I was late.
- 1:35:11I'm so sorry I was late. And then they bust in like the
- 1:35:14NIS busting to take him. I remember that like that was
- 1:35:19really sad that. It was so sad.
- 1:35:22It was sad. And in the final episodes, Hulk
- 1:35:27#2 slash Fist of Fury, that's what I have in my notes.
- 1:35:32Fist of Fury is still wearing that same red shirt.
- 1:35:36He is when he takes off running towards the school and he's
- 1:35:42taking these giant leaps. And I love that scene in the
- 1:35:47brawl where he sends that North Korean Hulk flying out the
- 1:35:52window. Actually, it's not even a Hulk.
- 1:35:54It's like a Hulk #4. Yeah, it's more of like the.
- 1:35:58I know who you're talking about. Yeah, 'cause he was there.
- 1:36:01With the North Koreans, yes, he's wailing on the sun.
- 1:36:05And at one point he has torturing him, basically.
- 1:36:07The sun up in a chokehold and he's like stepping on the
- 1:36:12teacher. Yeah, the PE teacher got in the
- 1:36:16fray. Yes, He's trying to help, trying
- 1:36:19to help the kids. He's good, yeah.
- 1:36:21Yeah, he's a good guy. So then that's where the dad
- 1:36:25when he showed up. Oh, oh oh, what a great moment.
- 1:36:31And he just starts wailing on this guy, throwing him against
- 1:36:34anything and everything. There's a move where damn he,
- 1:36:40the guy is laying on the floor. So Dad.
- 1:36:44Kicks them up into the air and then punches them back down into
- 1:36:48the ground. I was like, damn dude, what's
- 1:36:51cool about their powers? Because they all have very
- 1:36:54similar powers. They're similar, yeah.
- 1:36:58Fist of Fury #2 basically has the same exact powers as Hulk #2
- 1:37:04and they do not heal. Right.
- 1:37:08So whatever impact and and they're feeling every punch,
- 1:37:12everything. Exactly.
- 1:37:15They're not impervious to to the pain and to breaking bones and
- 1:37:19whatever. They're gonna heal just like any
- 1:37:21other person. It takes a long time and they
- 1:37:23can die. And they can die.
- 1:37:26It's it's just more super strength is really the thing,
- 1:37:29yeah. Which is interesting to have
- 1:37:31super strength without like having no feeling, no pain or
- 1:37:36having no healing ability. Yeah, because that kind of feels
- 1:37:40like if I punch a brick wall and I break the brick wall, but I
- 1:37:44still feel the fucking brick wall.
- 1:37:46You're going to break your arm, yeah.
- 1:37:49In multiple places. So great job of breaking down
- 1:37:53the brick wall, but you're down for the count, huh?
- 1:37:58You're going to be in a cast for a year and a half.
- 1:38:02It's it's a very catch 22 of a of a superpower.
- 1:38:08But. Anyway, I would say he throws
- 1:38:09this guy out the window. It's a deterrent, yes.
- 1:38:12Like I can destroy you with a punch, but I don't want.
- 1:38:19Right. I don't want to do it because if
- 1:38:22not, we'll both be injured. But you're going to, you're
- 1:38:25going to be the one that really feels it.
- 1:38:28So Hulk #2 sends this guy out the window and when he turns
- 1:38:32around his his his son is there, but they cut to him as a child
- 1:38:38again, sitting on the floor waiting for him to come back to
- 1:38:41the house. Tears.
- 1:38:43Tears. That was so well done and
- 1:38:46unfair. Yes, it's so manipulative.
- 1:38:51It really was. So do we want to OK, so end
- 1:38:56game. Yeah, end game.
- 1:38:57So let's discuss last couple of episodes because I know we're
- 1:39:00starting to run a little long. So OK, so Bong Sook can fly.
- 1:39:07Now for real. For real, like he can control
- 1:39:10it. Like, I really enjoy that
- 1:39:11moment. I really enjoyed the moment
- 1:39:13where it's after the gymnasium, after X-23 gets shot, but she
- 1:39:20starts to heal and he she's like, go to your mom.
- 1:39:24So then he takes off and there's like this inspiring music behind
- 1:39:29them as he's like learning how to, you know, maneuver himself
- 1:39:33around buildings and everything. And again, sorry for the
- 1:39:37comparison. Man of Steel flight when he
- 1:39:40flies for the first time that inspiring music that's lifting
- 1:39:44him right underneath. I I I was just like damn, this
- 1:39:48is good. I love I I love a good like hero
- 1:39:55finally masters their power moment.
- 1:39:59I love that like they finally get it clicking and the fact
- 1:40:04that he's able to get the flying down and now it can match like.
- 1:40:08Him with taking on people and stuff like that, it's wonderful.
- 1:40:14And he said during the gymnasium fight.
- 1:40:16Oh, you take off your, the villain said oh, you take off
- 1:40:19your dad. Because the two flying dudes had
- 1:40:22a showdown before in North Korea, and he says I take after
- 1:40:27my mother. Yeah, man.
- 1:40:31Oh my God, Awesome mom's rule. The confession scene.
- 1:40:39What do you think of that little confession?
- 1:40:41Oh, where The gymnasium like someone that I like and
- 1:40:44whatever. And then it's like, wait a
- 1:40:46minute. What'd you just say?
- 1:40:47What'd you say? Like what do you mean what?
- 1:40:50Yeah, you just said something weird.
- 1:40:52Yeah, he just said something weird.
- 1:40:56Yeah, but then she you said she takes a bullet for him.
- 1:40:58She takes a bullet for him in the forearm.
- 1:41:00Yeah. Just as her dad did earlier to
- 1:41:03protect Bong Sok's mom. And the PE homeroom teacher who
- 1:41:08had that, like, was in the past in that whole showdown with the
- 1:41:11North Korean soldiers back in the early 2000s, was it?
- 1:41:16Yeah, late 90s, early 2000s. So I love that Another full
- 1:41:21circle moment. Yeah, because it Speaking of
- 1:41:24like the gunshot wound, there's the moment in, I can't remember
- 1:41:28what episode, but the dad goes to see this guy about getting
- 1:41:32payment and like, the guy tries to act tough to him and then
- 1:41:37he's like, then like, he turns on a switch there.
- 1:41:40He's like, where's that accent from?
- 1:41:43Oh yeah, he and he's like. Clocks him on the accent.
- 1:41:45Clocks him and he's like, why are you trying to put on that
- 1:41:48accent? Like, why are you trying to be
- 1:41:49hard, right. You know, being from that area,
- 1:41:53you know, can get you in some trouble right here.
- 1:41:55And like he like, turns it on and that's where we where the
- 1:41:59guy goes, oh, are those, what are those like on his arm?
- 1:42:02And it's like, are those like scars from something.
- 1:42:04It's like, those are bullet scars, scars from a bullet.
- 1:42:08And he's like, oh wow, like like he got psyched out.
- 1:42:11It's big deal because like I said in the ballerina episode,
- 1:42:15guns are illegal in Korea. So the fact that somebody's
- 1:42:20taking a bullet, Yep, it's a big deal.
- 1:42:23It's huge, yeah. So more end game stuff here.
- 1:42:27More end game stuff. So, oh Mama Bear, Mama Bear goes
- 1:42:32fucking ape shit in school. I love her and she turns on.
- 1:42:37Yes, gets that gun. Fierce, yes, sniper, she says to
- 1:42:43one of the one of the North Koreans.
- 1:42:46I think it was Hulk #4, Fist of Fury #2 that he got sent out the
- 1:42:52window. He she says to him.
- 1:42:54I'll become a monster anytime if it's to protect my child.
- 1:42:58And then shoots him dead, Shoots him dead because he could tell
- 1:43:01he's like grabbing like either like a knife or something like
- 1:43:05he's grabbing glass like so he could try to get up and move on
- 1:43:09her and before he can make the move got him.
- 1:43:15The tension throughout that episode or that series of
- 1:43:19episodes, especially when people start to show up at the school,
- 1:43:22Yes. And you're like, oh, the mom's
- 1:43:24there. Oh, what's up with the guard at
- 1:43:26the school? Like he's in on it too.
- 1:43:28And oh, now Hulk is coming to the school and, oh, the North
- 1:43:34Koreans are pulling up and they got another dude in the trunk.
- 1:43:37Like, it's just, like progressively upping the ante
- 1:43:41each episode. And you're just in one spot.
- 1:43:44You're just at the school. Yeah, man.
- 1:43:48They do a really good job of getting it.
- 1:43:50I was fearful for those last couple episodes because you
- 1:43:55know, and I was fearful that we would run into a scenario that
- 1:43:59runs into a lot of these superhero movies where the final
- 1:44:01act is just punching and just like nonsense.
- 1:44:06You can't understand what they're doing type of thing, CGI
- 1:44:10fest. And the the show, Well, First
- 1:44:14off, it's at night. So they kind of hide themselves
- 1:44:16with it, but they don't make it so about punchy, Punchy, you
- 1:44:24know, destroying everything. Sure things.
- 1:44:27People are punching stuff and each other and a building does
- 1:44:31collapse at one point, but it never it's.
- 1:44:34A little man of Steely, right? A little.
- 1:44:36But it never takes away from, like, the actual story that's
- 1:44:42being told between the characters.
- 1:44:44So it's never one of those things where I'm just like, I
- 1:44:47glazed my eyes or was like, OK, let's see how long like this
- 1:44:51takes this entire you're. Getting like a little
- 1:44:52desensitized and bored, right? With it.
- 1:44:55But no, they it was very they do a good job to keep you in the
- 1:44:59moment because you want to see how these characters resolve.
- 1:45:03So they do a good job with that. I died with the electricity man,
- 1:45:08though, 'cause he does his like, bone care man like thing?
- 1:45:11Yep. Like his like, little.
- 1:45:13Like what's that called? His moves, yeah, he was like
- 1:45:19doing his whole entire choreographing move, charging up
- 1:45:24and then finally just unleashing it into the air.
- 1:45:27I love it. He blows off this dude's arm.
- 1:45:30It's fantastic. It's so good.
- 1:45:32No notes so good. So one thing I will say about
- 1:45:36Korean shows that kind of throw me off is that the, the big
- 1:45:43action sequence happens in basically in episodes 18 and 19
- 1:45:49and then in episode 20 is like it almost feels like an epilogue
- 1:45:53type of episode. A little bit, yeah, because a
- 1:45:56little bit, you're just tying up the loose ends.
- 1:45:59Well, some of them, and leaving an, you know, like a a
- 1:46:03cliffhanger. Well, not a cliffhanger, but
- 1:46:05you're leaving something. Not a cliffhanger, but you're
- 1:46:07you're leaving something for the future as well, so.
- 1:46:12Did you expect that Chuan Sung was alive and in North Korea
- 1:46:20this whole time? Oh man.
- 1:46:24For the missing husband, Superman.
- 1:46:26Yeah, Superman. Well, when they kept saying like
- 1:46:30he's missing, when they were saying he's missing, that clued
- 1:46:35me into like, we're going to see him.
- 1:46:38I don't know when, but we'll see him.
- 1:46:40I didn't expect it to be like in a North Korean prison, but.
- 1:46:44But I'm glad that they finally revealed where he was, that he
- 1:46:50got reintroduced to the show. It's necessary if, especially if
- 1:46:55they're going to do it Season 2. I wanted more from the reunion
- 1:46:59scene, personally. That would have been nice.
- 1:47:03Bigger moment. It's a big deal.
- 1:47:05What's you can tell that Joinsung is a really famous.
- 1:47:10Player. Because he doesn't come into the
- 1:47:13show until like, episode seven or eight.
- 1:47:14Yeah, don't see him, one of my pet peeves, but yes.
- 1:47:18And he's missing for large swathes of the show.
- 1:47:21And then they bring him in at the end.
- 1:47:24It's like, tada, here's the rabbit in the hat.
- 1:47:27Yep, it's. It's one of those things where
- 1:47:29it's like, all right, we're kind of going over budget.
- 1:47:32We're going to have to cut some of your scenes from some of
- 1:47:36these episodes here. Right.
- 1:47:37It feels a little like Wonder Womany in the cameos that she's
- 1:47:42done. We can't use you for the entire
- 1:47:46movie. Can't have gal, Can't have her
- 1:47:48for the whole thing. Here's a one scene.
- 1:47:52That's what it felt like, but otherwise a really, really nice
- 1:47:57happy ending. Happy ish.
- 1:47:59As happy as they can be. I will say Chuan Sung does have
- 1:48:04a fantastic scene where he is trying to assassinate the North
- 1:48:07Korean dictator. Yes, like that whole sequence of
- 1:48:11him, like flying around. Mm hmm, really?
- 1:48:14I was like, I've never seen that before.
- 1:48:18You know how many fucking superhero things you've seen,
- 1:48:21And I've never seen that. That's the first time.
- 1:48:24It's just like a sniper flying around.
- 1:48:26Yeah, you don't. Yeah, They were innovative with
- 1:48:29stuff. It was.
- 1:48:31They were felt innovative. That last episode.
- 1:48:34Yeah. Gets us through a couple major
- 1:48:37things. One thing that stood out to me
- 1:48:39is when what is it the general from North Korea.
- 1:48:45It's like did you get the did you get the file and the guy who
- 1:48:49lost an arm to because of electricity man, blowing it off
- 1:48:54of. Punkin man.
- 1:48:55Yeah, you know, he he makes a comment of like, what did the
- 1:49:01kids have to do with it? Pretty.
- 1:49:03Much right? There's an undercurrent of like
- 1:49:05the kids are innocent. Why are we pursuing children?
- 1:49:09Right, Exactly. And.
- 1:49:11'Cause they're not in this fight.
- 1:49:12No, they're not. They're not.
- 1:49:14They're not. Trained assassins like their
- 1:49:16parents are exactly. And so it culminates to he is
- 1:49:22not happy with the what they told him that he needed to do so
- 1:49:28with that arm that was blown off, he pops a little a gun out
- 1:49:32of it and shoots that general dead right there.
- 1:49:37I didn't expect that, no. Neither did I.
- 1:49:40It was very Kingsman. I don't know.
- 1:49:43Kingsman. Yes, it.
- 1:49:44Yes. Yes.
- 1:49:46Yeah, manners maketh, man. Yeah.
- 1:49:50So yeah, there's some things that stood out, but there's also
- 1:49:53things that are going to possibly gives us a Season 2.
- 1:49:56Do you think we're going to get a Season 2?
- 1:49:58Look, I think it's not out of the question because they've
- 1:50:05left so much open. They had post credit scenes like
- 1:50:07a real superhero movie and there's loose ends like EU at
- 1:50:12the North Koreans or ended up being like the big big bad
- 1:50:18organization of the of the show. But you still have the internal
- 1:50:22South Korean NIS. That secret part of NIS that's
- 1:50:26dealing with the supers and you had that replacement like they
- 1:50:30killed the guy they killed that asshole.
- 1:50:33Question, May, did I, did I see this wrong?
- 1:50:37But did the class president? Yeah, join the NIS.
- 1:50:43She did it, was it. Wasn't what are you talking
- 1:50:46about? It wasn't my imagination that I
- 1:50:48was like seeing her in that final episode and she was like
- 1:50:52you, you couldn't do your job or something like that that.
- 1:50:55Oh no. It what?
- 1:50:59What in the final? Are you talking about what?
- 1:51:02No, hold on, Hold on. So you're talking about what
- 1:51:05class president? You know, because they look so
- 1:51:09similar. Maybe this is me.
- 1:51:10I don't. I think.
- 1:51:11I think I'm. No, you're wrong.
- 1:51:14You're wrong. I'm looking at them.
- 1:51:15This is my fault. This is on me.
- 1:51:18This is on me. The guy that replaces Yongtun,
- 1:51:23which is that NIS chief 'cause he gets shot dead by Chun Sung,
- 1:51:31is Sangu Pak Pyong Gun. That's another very famous actor
- 1:51:37and he takes the spot of what? What?
- 1:51:41What's the equivalent of that in the MCU?
- 1:51:46I don't know Robert Redford. I like if if someone was taking
- 1:51:51over SHIELD or something. Like that?
- 1:51:52Yeah, exactly. But SHIELD is Hydra.
- 1:51:56No, there was there was a moment I was thinking about a woman.
- 1:52:00Because I saw a woman. OK, her name is Kwan Hansel.
- 1:52:05Yeah, and that's not the same as the same person that I saw then.
- 1:52:09Yeah, I was just being stupid. And no, no it's fine.
- 1:52:15But the the. Hulk number two son Kangolin
- 1:52:21does join the NIS. He does.
- 1:52:23He does get recruited, yes, he does that.
- 1:52:26I that I definitely remember. He accepts the position.
- 1:52:29So we still got to deal with that.
- 1:52:31We still got to deal with now Bong Sook is a superhero because
- 1:52:38he's like flying around the city we've seen another people from.
- 1:52:42It's a bird. It's a plane.
- 1:52:44It's the yellow man because he's.
- 1:52:47Wearing yellow jacket. I know.
- 1:52:49So cute. So again, he's like a superhero.
- 1:52:53Are we going to deal with that? What the hell is he soo doing?
- 1:52:56X-23? What's she up to?
- 1:53:00Is she just going to school for on a PE major?
- 1:53:05Yeah, on a PE scholarship, like what?
- 1:53:08What's going on with her? So a lot of different loose ends
- 1:53:12that. They can come back to you and
- 1:53:15tap into. They can easily come back to
- 1:53:17you. This does feel like the end of a
- 1:53:20season one. It does.
- 1:53:21It feels like it. But it's so well done.
- 1:53:24Yeah, it was very well done because you resolved the main
- 1:53:28conflict in the first season, but you leave the, you know, all
- 1:53:33the chess pieces are on the board to be able to move forward
- 1:53:37with something else. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:53:40Well, you watch season two. Yeah, I would watch Season 2.
- 1:53:43You're like, yeah, of course, Yeah, I would definitely watch
- 1:53:45Season 2. Gosh, OK, Because now we've
- 1:53:50already been teased with with a new name of Alliance.
- 1:53:54I know Elias, another agent is coming to Korea.
- 1:53:57Frank and him got to have a showdown.
- 1:53:58Yes, Frank's got to get inducted into the superhero.
- 1:54:01Into the superhero society. We got to deal with the US
- 1:54:05intervention. We got to deal with maybe North
- 1:54:07Korea comes back into the pictures somehow.
- 1:54:10Maybe they have their own Superman, you know that.
- 1:54:14Well, they had. Well, I mean, is that flying man
- 1:54:17going to come back, right? Is he going to come back?
- 1:54:19The one armed flying Superman #2 is he going to?
- 1:54:22Right? Is he going to play a bigger
- 1:54:24part? You know, who knows?
- 1:54:28Yeah. So there's questions that can
- 1:54:30be. Answered there's right.
- 1:54:32Right. There's enough, definitely.
- 1:54:34For a Season 2. It's exciting.
- 1:54:37It's exciting stuff. I liked it as well.
- 1:54:40I would never have thought that I would be like, yeah, I I'm
- 1:54:43looking forward to a Season 2. But yeah, genuinely not big on
- 1:54:47season twos, especially for Korean dramas.
- 1:54:50No, but this is basically a Western show.
- 1:54:53Yeah. It, it kind of, it has all the
- 1:54:55trappings of one. Yeah.
- 1:54:57So, yeah, great. It's so hard to very good show,
- 1:55:01Very good show. Very good show and I highly
- 1:55:04recommend if you've come this far in the episode.
- 1:55:06We've spoiled the whole thing, but go watch it for yourself on
- 1:55:09Hulu or Disney Plus wherever you can get a hold of it.
- 1:55:13If you're in the States, it should be Hulu.
- 1:55:14If you're outside Disney Plus, I don't know, but Rico, that's it.
- 1:55:19You've come to the end of the show.
- 1:55:20Yes, we have. Thank you for watching movie
- 1:55:23with me. Yes, thank you for first
- 1:55:25recommending. Watching it and having me on the
- 1:55:28show to talk about it was a lot of fun.
- 1:55:30Oh, I'm so glad you feel that way.
- 1:55:32Well, we're just going to get out of here.
- 1:55:34This has been our show. I'm Jessica.
- 1:55:37And I'm Rico. This has been the Tivaki Rambles
- 1:55:40podcast.
