- 2:30Speaker 4: Good morning, Sarah, Welcome to the show.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Good morning. And I won a car show yesterday.
- 2:38Speaker 5: That's the first thing I was going to ask you about,
- 2:39Speaker 5: which which one of your rides was in the car show?
- 2:42Speaker 5: And you won it in California, Talk about it.
- 2:45Speaker 6: It's the fifteen nine Cadillac. It's the only car I
- 2:48Speaker 6: have out here. And there was one hundred and seventy
- 2:53Speaker 6: cars there and they gave away twenty eight awards and
- 2:59Speaker 6: three of them had money with them, and I won
- 3:05Speaker 6: one of the ones with money, and I stood in
- 3:09Speaker 6: front of my car the whole time and instead of
- 3:13Speaker 6: sitting in the back and those lounge chairs, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 6: I work that crawd. People were coming up having their
- 3:22Speaker 6: pictures taken. My card said can I have Can I
- 3:25Speaker 6: take one of you? And then I would take a
- 3:26Speaker 6: picture of my the piece of paper in my window
- 3:31Speaker 6: with all my information and have you all decided that
- 3:35Speaker 6: you're going to vote for in the People's Choice awards?
- 3:38Speaker 6: You know? And uh, well that's my information. If you
- 3:43Speaker 6: you know, if you picked me or if you I
- 3:46Speaker 6: appreciate it, and don't don't mess with me in politics, please.
- 3:50Speaker 6: I've never lost an election one.
- 3:54Speaker 4: It's nice to know the kids still got it right.
- 3:57Speaker 6: Yeah, it was a lot of fun and I got
- 3:59Speaker 6: fun to understanding out there. But it was I met
- 4:02Speaker 6: a lot of nice people, a lot of Vietnam veterans,
- 4:06Speaker 6: and you know, because this is a senior living community,
- 4:11Speaker 6: and it was it was just a really beautiful car show.
- 4:16Speaker 4: How many cars were in it?
- 4:17Speaker 5: Approximately one hundred seventy, one hundred seventy all right, And
- 4:21Speaker 5: was your Cadillac was in any specific category? How they
- 4:24Speaker 5: kind of break these things down?
- 4:26Speaker 7: No, I was.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I won the People's Choice. They had two people's choice,
- 4:31Speaker 6: one for people that don't live in leisure world and
- 4:34Speaker 6: one for people that do. And I work with people
- 4:38Speaker 6: that do, because I would ask them, do you live
- 4:41Speaker 6: in leisure world? Had you fixed a Cardovos for it?
- 4:47Speaker 5: You were Suddenly it was nineteen eighty and you were
- 4:50Speaker 5: going door to door again, basically, right, eighty four eighty four?
- 4:54Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, I've run for sheriff.
- 4:56Speaker 5: You talked about that on the show Danny once before,
- 5:00Speaker 5: about your campaign strategy, about going and for people that
- 5:03Speaker 5: didn't know it. I mean basically when you went door
- 5:05Speaker 5: to door, you would just ask. That was the first
- 5:06Speaker 5: question you told me that you asked was have you
- 5:09Speaker 5: decided who you're going to vote for?
- 5:11Speaker 6: Yeah? Have you picked a candidate?
- 5:13Speaker 4: Picked a candadaate? Yeah?
- 5:15Speaker 6: And have you and back in those days see everything
- 5:18Speaker 6: of a Democrat. So I said, well, have you ever
- 5:21Speaker 6: voted for? And I had to list, So I said,
- 5:26Speaker 6: you know, miss Allen, have you ever voted for a
- 5:28Speaker 6: Republican before? And they said, well, of course, we split
- 5:31Speaker 6: our ticket. I said, well, I wanted to give you
- 5:34Speaker 6: my information and I'm running against a good man. I
- 5:38Speaker 6: just want you to know I'm a good man too.
- 5:40Speaker 6: And this will this will tell you about me? And
- 5:43Speaker 6: I won. I came off South Hills into two five
- 5:47Speaker 6: three one four precinct with a twenty five vote twenty
- 5:51Speaker 6: five hundred vote plus margin, and I won the election
- 5:55Speaker 6: by eleven thousand votes.
- 5:57Speaker 5: And this was and this was eighty four. Yeah, who'd
- 6:01Speaker 5: you run against in eighty four?
- 6:03Speaker 6: A coach Edwards? Oh that's right, the late coach Edwards
- 6:06Speaker 6: Cede's father.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Well, and I mean, yeah, I mean, and that was
- 6:10Speaker 5: a pretty uh formidable candidate.
- 6:14Speaker 4: I mean back in those days, right.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Great man, great great, he'd had been a fine shariff.
- 6:22Speaker 5: It was a different time politically now, you know, because
- 6:26Speaker 5: I mean back then to what it is now, because
- 6:29Speaker 5: I mean, you know, there was some you know, some
- 6:31Speaker 5: nasty campaigning and whatnot back in but it wasn't, in
- 6:34Speaker 5: my opinion, you know, it wasn't as overt as what
- 6:38Speaker 5: it is now.
- 6:38Speaker 8: You know.
- 6:39Speaker 5: I mean, you got mailers and stuff like that, but
- 6:41Speaker 5: you have now. But back then, I mean, it was
- 6:43Speaker 5: a totally different time. And you didn't have social media
- 6:45Speaker 5: at the time, which I think is probably the worst
- 6:46Speaker 5: thing that ever happened to the country.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Social media.
- 6:48Speaker 6: If you want my opinion, yeah, and they had They
- 6:51Speaker 6: had a slate which I got on. I don't know
- 6:55Speaker 6: if it mattered or not. It was called Mountaineers for
- 6:59Speaker 6: More and Governor Moore was on it. Bob Wise was
- 7:07Speaker 6: on it. He didn't want to be on it, but
- 7:09Speaker 6: they wanted to strengthen the slates, so they put his
- 7:12Speaker 6: name on it. And of the furniture store guy, his
- 7:18Speaker 6: son owns the furniture store out on Quarter G. He
- 7:23Speaker 6: was on it and I was on it, and I
- 7:26Speaker 6: don't know if it helped or not, but I won big.
- 7:30Speaker 5: Were there multiple slates floating around back then, because I
- 7:33Speaker 5: know in Logan County where I grew up, there were
- 7:35Speaker 5: there were multiple slates. There were fake slates sometimes, I
- 7:39Speaker 5: mean were there were there different slates.
- 7:42Speaker 6: There are three factions of Democrats in the seventies. I
- 7:46Speaker 6: don't know if it carried into the eighties or not.
- 7:49Speaker 6: One was a guy named Popcorn Allen and he had
- 7:53Speaker 6: the Shawnee Hills employees that would go out and work.
- 7:57Speaker 6: And in the seventies powerful slate was Jack Pauley and
- 8:07Speaker 6: I don't know if he's still a magistrate or not,
- 8:09Speaker 6: but he was very powerful, very powerful. And then you
- 8:15Speaker 6: had Sam McCorkell and Sam mccorkyl. I'll tell you a
- 8:19Speaker 6: sunny story. We were walking and he knew me and
- 8:23Speaker 6: liked me, and I liked him a lot. He was
- 8:25Speaker 6: a great, big tall man. I got drafted with his son.
- 8:29Speaker 6: His son was in the Army. I went in the
- 8:31Speaker 6: Marine Corps. John mccorkl and we were walking into a
- 8:35Speaker 6: magistrate's birthday party in the in the Judicial Annex, and
- 8:43Speaker 6: he said, Danny, what you have to worry about are
- 8:47Speaker 6: people that say there for you, but they can't let
- 8:52Speaker 6: anybody know they're for you. And he said, you don't
- 8:55Speaker 6: have to worry about me. He says, I'll never be
- 8:57Speaker 6: for you.
- 8:58Speaker 4: At least you know where you stay, you know.
- 9:01Speaker 6: Yeah. And I love Sam. And he just didn't vote
- 9:04Speaker 6: for Republicans and Arts Arts tried to take him in.
- 9:08Speaker 6: You know how many jobs you want nothing? We don't
- 9:11Speaker 6: want anything. They wouldn't vote for Republicans, and you know,
- 9:14Speaker 6: I had to respect that. And I love Sam, and
- 9:18Speaker 6: I like John, his son, who's still around.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Talking to Danny Jones again with Dave Island Show on five,
- 9:24Speaker 5: Adyeline brought to you Bye Bye the Charleston Dirty Birds
- 9:26Speaker 5: off night tonight for the Birds to begin a homestand
- 9:29Speaker 5: against the Long Island Ducks tomorrow night. Two dollars Tuesday,
- 9:32Speaker 5: all counts the two dollars specials who want to go
- 9:34Speaker 5: mark Ballpark checking out Dirty Birds baseball dot com for
- 9:37Speaker 5: more information. Nine to seventeen And now you're out in
- 9:39Speaker 5: California right now, So it's six seventeen out there, right.
- 9:43Speaker 6: That's correct, that's correct. You know they had a thing
- 9:46Speaker 6: on sixty minutes last night about the Banana baseball team.
- 9:50Speaker 4: It's the Savannah Bananas.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Yeah, it was a repeat. But those guys are really
- 9:55Speaker 6: getting big. Oh.
- 9:56Speaker 5: I remember, yeah, a couple of years ago when they
- 9:58Speaker 5: came to the ballpark over here, and I remember what
- 10:01Speaker 5: a big deal it was.
- 10:01Speaker 6: Then they're packing the major League baseball parks that have
- 10:06Speaker 6: one hundred thousand seats. Yeah, and I don't think they'll
- 10:09Speaker 6: read back here. And he now has a league of
- 10:11Speaker 6: about sixteen. So those guys are really good.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I want to ask you something real quick.
- 10:21Speaker 5: You know what we think about California where you're at now,
- 10:24Speaker 5: you we think about California as being super liberal. You've
- 10:28Speaker 5: told me where you are, it's not that liberal. I'm
- 10:31Speaker 5: just kind of wondering maybe on the maybe the newspaper
- 10:34Speaker 5: television coverage of America two fifty, because there's those that said, look,
- 10:38Speaker 5: we shouldn't be selling I mean they did it here
- 10:40Speaker 5: in West Virginia. I'm sure they did at Nation Want too.
- 10:41Speaker 5: We shouldn't be celebrating because of this or that. One
- 10:44Speaker 5: was the reaction to America two fifty.
- 10:45Speaker 6: In California, people full of flags. This compound I live
- 10:52Speaker 6: in is Democrat, but that doesn't mean they're not patriotic folks.
- 10:59Speaker 6: But if you go north, it gets pretty woke. If
- 11:05Speaker 6: you go to the Santa Monica, it's it's as far
- 11:09Speaker 6: left as you can get. But if you go down
- 11:12Speaker 6: south eight miles south of where I am, the Huntington Beach,
- 11:15Speaker 6: and it's Maga, it's mega Orange County is more conservative.
- 11:22Speaker 5: It's interesting to me how we've got these different I mean,
- 11:26Speaker 5: it's not it's not as easy as red or blue anymore,
- 11:30Speaker 5: because I mean there are I mean, we know that
- 11:32Speaker 5: Donald Trump is the head of the Republican Party nationwide.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Uh and, but but.
- 11:37Speaker 5: There are in other areas outside West Virginia, there are
- 11:40Speaker 5: people that aren't so pro Donald Trump that are Republicans,
- 11:43Speaker 5: And the same on the left I mean, you've got
- 11:46Speaker 5: it seems to me and I've said this beore. I
- 11:48Speaker 5: think both parties have been have been taken over, uh
- 11:51Speaker 5: by by the far left end by the far right respectively.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Uh But when you say that that's Democrat, there is
- 11:57Speaker 5: it the classic is it? The new Democrat? The what
- 12:00Speaker 5: you call woke Democrat? Is the classic Democrats? Say John
- 12:04Speaker 5: Kennedy Democrat? What kind of Democrats are there.
- 12:06Speaker 6: On this compound? They would be more of the John
- 12:09Speaker 6: Kennedy Democrats because they are older people. They're older than me.
- 12:14Speaker 6: I went your church yesterday, the Baptist church, and I
- 12:18Speaker 6: was the youngest person in the room. And it's these people.
- 12:26Speaker 6: You know, they set up tents, Democrat tents and the
- 12:29Speaker 6: Republicans have a small tent. But they are very patriotic people.
- 12:35Speaker 6: They fly flags. It's just not the same. Now you
- 12:39Speaker 6: got Santa Monica. It's different. But I was reading an
- 12:43Speaker 6: article in the Times this morning about Santa Monica. They're
- 12:46Speaker 6: one broke, and you know that's it's it's the I was.
- 12:54Speaker 6: I was at a mayor's conference and I'm sitting right
- 12:58Speaker 6: next to the mayor of Cente Monica and she's a
- 13:03Speaker 6: you know, she's a lady, and obviously her I can,
- 13:07Speaker 6: I can. We started talking and I said, well, I'll
- 13:10Speaker 6: really get her good. I said, yeah, I've got a
- 13:13Speaker 6: son and he works in the coal mines.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Game on at that point, game on right.
- 13:18Speaker 6: Oh she cringed. She said, can you get a job
- 13:22Speaker 6: at a wind farm? I said, no, man, we're cold
- 13:27Speaker 6: people in West Virginia. Oh, she just cringed. I bet
- 13:30Speaker 6: she wanted to fleet to be somewhere else.
- 13:35Speaker 4: When a you coming back to West Virginia.
- 13:38Speaker 6: I'll be back Nece Saturday, all right, so.
- 13:40Speaker 5: You'll be in studio with this next Monday. What's what's
- 13:42Speaker 5: the rest of the week look like for Danny Jones
- 13:43Speaker 5: of California?
- 13:44Speaker 4: What are you getting into?
- 13:46Speaker 6: I'm gonna meet with my friends at noon, and I'll
- 13:52Speaker 6: you know, I'll lay up by the pool and and
- 13:56Speaker 6: and get on my front courch and you're out my
- 14:00Speaker 6: Cadillac around.
- 14:02Speaker 5: I would think that that Cadillac even you know, California's
- 14:05Speaker 5: got a strong culture of automobiles. We all know that,
- 14:08Speaker 5: but I would think that that is kind of it.
- 14:09Speaker 5: You can show you've talked about going to a car show.
- 14:11Speaker 5: You go to a car show, you always see like
- 14:13Speaker 5: the sixty six Mustangs or those classic cars. But imagine
- 14:16Speaker 5: you don't see a lot of fifty nine Cadillacs anywhere.
- 14:19Speaker 6: No, and there is a car show in six in
- 14:25Speaker 6: colb to that six Center Cars, and next year's car
- 14:30Speaker 6: show is already full. I couldn't get in this one,
- 14:33Speaker 6: and I can't get the next one.
- 14:35Speaker 5: All right, Well, Danny, you enjoy California and we'll look
- 14:38Speaker 5: forward to talking to you in studio next week.
- 14:40Speaker 4: Has that?
- 14:41Speaker 6: Thanks David, thanks for having me on one sale over there.

- 19:26Speaker 11: Good morning, I'm wonderful. How you doing.
- 19:28Speaker 4: How's that voice told?
- 19:30Speaker 10: It's a little shaky but good, but really really good.
- 19:34Speaker 10: I mean, I think that we're going to be still
- 19:38Speaker 10: on this adrenaline high for a really long time. It
- 19:41Speaker 10: was far and away the best Charleston cern Rover Gotta
- 19:45Speaker 10: I remember, and I'm just I'm thrilled. I'm thrilled that
- 19:50Speaker 10: we can yet again say another year a safe, fun
- 19:53Speaker 10: time for all. You know, we had some heat issues
- 19:57Speaker 10: in the beginning of the week, but fewer than you
- 19:59Speaker 10: would think, four or five the first day, three the
- 20:02Speaker 10: next day. In the past two days we haven't had
- 20:05Speaker 10: any because that you know, fortunately, a little bit of
- 20:07Speaker 10: the rain came in and cooled things down, made a
- 20:08Speaker 10: little monkey for a while, but we had a nice
- 20:11Speaker 10: breeze on the river and it was just it was
- 20:13Speaker 10: an incredible, incredible week. It is a year long process
- 20:18Speaker 10: to host, you know, the state's largest four day festival,
- 20:21Speaker 10: but we're really happy about the outcome.
- 20:23Speaker 4: And they had a beautiful rainbow last night too.
- 20:25Speaker 11: Oh my gosh.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Yeah, was that cool or what?
- 20:27Speaker 10: It was almost scripted? I mean, you know that the
- 20:31Speaker 10: band was playing on stage and everybody saw the rainbow
- 20:33Speaker 10: just started, and so everybody's phones went from the stage
- 20:36Speaker 10: to the rainbow in the sky. Everybody loves the rainbow,
- 20:39Speaker 10: double rainbow.
- 20:40Speaker 11: And so it was.
- 20:41Speaker 10: It was super It was super fun. But you know,
- 20:44Speaker 10: I you know, every night before I go to bed
- 20:47Speaker 10: and every morning when I wake up, I'm always thinking
- 20:49Speaker 10: about something, as is our team, and I just it'll
- 20:54Speaker 10: take me this entire show, Dave, in your entire afternoon
- 20:57Speaker 10: Statewide Show and TJ and Day show. Yeah, I mean
- 21:01Speaker 10: all of them to say how incredibly thankful I am
- 21:05Speaker 10: to live and raise my family in this city that
- 21:08Speaker 10: has so many people who give so much time, money support.
- 21:15Speaker 11: This was the largest and.
- 21:19Speaker 10: The family who the anonymous family who gave us that
- 21:24Speaker 10: gift of those fireworks to be done in three different
- 21:27Speaker 10: locations and the magnitude and I know a lot of
- 21:32Speaker 10: people saw the clips online unless you were there. And
- 21:34Speaker 10: I was standing when it started in the middle of
- 21:36Speaker 10: the Southside Bridge to watch and at my vantage point
- 21:40Speaker 10: you could kind of see, you know, around that corner.
- 21:43Speaker 10: It's hard to see the capital, but watching over had
- 21:46Speaker 10: that in Magic Island, which is what we had discussed
- 21:48Speaker 10: with this family who gave us this incredible one hundred
- 21:52Speaker 10: thousand dollars gift donation for fireworks and with a little
- 21:57Speaker 10: bit of the city support because we always put money
- 22:00Speaker 10: and our budget for fireworks for the fourth July uh
- 22:02Speaker 10: in the state of West Virginia. They gave us some
- 22:05Speaker 10: funds as well to enhance that to make sure that
- 22:09Speaker 10: we had fireworks at the capitol as well. Working with
- 22:11Speaker 10: Sambelly or they're the you know, they're the champions if
- 22:14Speaker 10: you will, and jan right. Yeah, it was just it
- 22:19Speaker 10: was just incredible to watch everybody. You kept hearing people
- 22:24Speaker 10: go wow, oh my god, look hold on videos and photos.
- 22:30Speaker 10: It's a it was a once in a lifetime opportunity
- 22:33Speaker 10: and experience and to have that happen over so many days,
- 22:37Speaker 10: you know, starting with Melissa Ethridge and why no, Nah Judd,
- 22:41Speaker 10: who were true?
- 22:42Speaker 11: I mean, they're just rock stars. I don't know what
- 22:44Speaker 11: else to say.
- 22:44Speaker 10: Bobby Brown and until Jordan and bow Wow rock stars,
- 22:48Speaker 10: and Leada Ford and Brett Michael rock stars. They're just
- 22:52Speaker 10: true rock stars.
- 22:53Speaker 4: And I know you got yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 5: But Animal and I were talking earlier and about how
- 22:58Speaker 5: how I mean everybody genuinely.
- 23:00Speaker 10: Ifford literally said when I walked in, hey, come on in,
- 23:03Speaker 10: can I get you something to drink? I said, wait
- 23:04Speaker 10: a second, I'm supposed to be.
- 23:06Speaker 5: Hosting you, I believe it or not. She had never
- 23:09Speaker 5: played in Charleston.
- 23:10Speaker 10: Before, she never had, and she was so she was
- 23:14Speaker 10: genuinely because you know, I haven't been around that long
- 23:16Speaker 10: and I'm not that old. But you can kind of
- 23:18Speaker 10: tell that authenticity when people have it or don't. I
- 23:21Speaker 10: think the most amazing thing that was said about any
- 23:25Speaker 10: of the artists I kept calling him mister Michaels. Brett
- 23:28Speaker 10: Michael said to me, mayor you the next time you
- 23:32Speaker 10: call somebody and they say, I'm not sure it's fourth
- 23:35Speaker 10: of July or you know it might be, but I'm
- 23:38Speaker 10: not I'm not sure I'm gonna, you know, do this venue.
- 23:40Speaker 11: He said.
- 23:40Speaker 10: I don't think that people understand. Maybe artists don't understand.
- 23:44Speaker 10: But I want to be your spokesperson on the regatta
- 23:47Speaker 10: because as I'm standing on stage and I'm looking to
- 23:50Speaker 10: the left, and I see the riverfront, and I see
- 23:53Speaker 10: the boats, and I see the big boats, the stern
- 23:55Speaker 10: wheelers he's referring to, and the crowd, and they're down
- 23:58Speaker 10: low and up high in their back and they're on
- 24:00Speaker 10: tops of built He said, this venue is absolutely incredible.
- 24:06Speaker 10: You call me and by the way, they gave me
- 24:09Speaker 10: their personal cell phone number, and by the way, they
- 24:11Speaker 10: called me yesterday on another issue, but a positive issue,
- 24:16Speaker 10: but to say, please connect with us, Please keep connecting
- 24:20Speaker 10: with us. And I think when when we show national
- 24:24Speaker 10: and international artists and true rock stars who we are,
- 24:27Speaker 10: by the way, you know, in the in the four
- 24:29Speaker 10: point Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Washington, d C. The
- 24:35Speaker 10: families and the fans who came from all over, that's
- 24:39Speaker 10: incredibly important. Yes it's a party, Yes it's super fun.
- 24:44Speaker 10: Yes we have made this administration made it when we
- 24:47Speaker 10: brought back the regatta a family centered focus, you know,
- 24:51Speaker 10: for free stuff for the kiddos to do. You cannot
- 24:55Speaker 10: put an exclamation point, you put put a thousand on
- 24:58Speaker 10: this sentence that it's an opportunity for us to showcase.
- 25:01Speaker 10: Every single mayor before me and after me, they're being honest.
- 25:05Speaker 10: They would say to you, this is what we want.
- 25:07Speaker 10: I want people to know that Charleston, West Virginia has
- 25:10Speaker 10: a quality of life. And by the way, we talked
- 25:13Speaker 10: to several family members who were there with some of
- 25:15Speaker 10: our sponsors to say, thanks for doing this because my
- 25:18Speaker 10: kids are in town and this is what we want
- 25:20Speaker 10: them to see, to have fun things for their kids
- 25:22Speaker 10: to do, and not just on regatta weekend as well
- 25:26Speaker 10: the small businesses who came out to support us. Is
- 25:29Speaker 10: just also just another feather in our cap. But it
- 25:33Speaker 10: says more about you know, I said this on a
- 25:36Speaker 10: social media post, I said this on stage, so I'll
- 25:38Speaker 10: say it on your show, Dave.
- 25:40Speaker 11: This is.
- 25:42Speaker 10: The success of a city is never about one person,
- 25:45Speaker 10: never has been, never will be.
- 25:47Speaker 11: It cannot be.
- 25:48Speaker 10: So when we start getting so myopic and thinking about
- 25:50Speaker 10: it's me, it's what I've done, it's not. It is
- 25:53Speaker 10: a reflection upon this city and how much people care
- 25:56Speaker 10: about their city and how much they want to give
- 25:58Speaker 10: of themselves and their company. So thank you again. It's
- 26:02Speaker 10: not enough. It would take me days to do it,
- 26:05Speaker 10: but I'm absolutely over the moon. Over the moon thrilled
- 26:08Speaker 10: a safe, wonderful environment for our businesses and families and visitors.
- 26:13Speaker 11: I'm thrilled.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Was this the biggest attendance, I mean in five years
- 26:18Speaker 5: since it came back?
- 26:19Speaker 10: I mean yes, certainly. I mean the Leada Ford of
- 26:22Speaker 10: Brett Michael and I'll be real real, as my bloways
- 26:25Speaker 10: like to say to me, Mom, let me be real
- 26:27Speaker 10: real with you.
- 26:27Speaker 11: I'll be real real.
- 26:30Speaker 10: I was so excited and surprised to see the insane
- 26:36Speaker 10: amount of people who came out for Leida Ford. And
- 26:38Speaker 10: she is a rock star in all aspects. She is
- 26:41Speaker 10: a rock star and her team are pros. I mean
- 26:44Speaker 10: they do this all over the world. She is a pro.
- 26:46Speaker 10: I mean when you start with the Runaways with you
- 26:48Speaker 10: know Pat Benattar and Jim Jet and those crew of
- 26:51Speaker 10: true punk rock girls, they're pros.
- 26:54Speaker 11: This is what they do and they love to do it.
- 26:56Speaker 6: She was.
- 26:58Speaker 10: She was so great in her trailer practicing. By the way,
- 27:03Speaker 10: she's practicing for you to make sure she hits her marks,
- 27:07Speaker 10: because when I walked in, she was practicing. But yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 10: that was the most insane crowd that I have seen.
- 27:16Speaker 10: And people said to me, you know, thousands and thousands
- 27:21Speaker 10: text emails. I'll get to the mall hopefully before the
- 27:25Speaker 10: middle of the week, hopefully before the end of the
- 27:27Speaker 10: week of people saying, this is what we're talking about.
- 27:30Speaker 10: But by the way, David takes money in the City
- 27:32Speaker 10: of Charleston. We can't afford this. We can't put this
- 27:35Speaker 10: in our budget. This isn't something that I would be
- 27:39Speaker 10: willing to take all out of my budget.
- 27:40Speaker 11: I can't do that.
- 27:42Speaker 10: Do we need to be a sponsor and a supporter
- 27:44Speaker 10: of this with you know, not only our cities teams
- 27:47Speaker 10: and support and kudos. You know, we watched them till
- 27:51Speaker 10: the wee hours of the morning, which you know is
- 27:54Speaker 10: way past my bedtime and early this morning. You go
- 27:57Speaker 10: down the boulevard and you see who's down there. I mean,
- 27:59Speaker 10: it's it's looking so fantastic. It doesn't look like we
- 28:03Speaker 10: had you know that many people in a smaller footprint.
- 28:09Speaker 10: Always every year we go back every event, we start
- 28:12Speaker 10: to take notes. I think you've heard me say it
- 28:13Speaker 10: I call it my picklist, and we look at how
- 28:16Speaker 10: to improve upon the things that we do. But also
- 28:18Speaker 10: it's a wonderful opportunity. And thanks to the city council
- 28:21Speaker 10: members who came out as well, because this is an
- 28:24Speaker 10: opportunity for them to hear directly from small businesses, directly
- 28:28Speaker 10: from our sponsors, directly from our visitors and people in
- 28:32Speaker 10: our community to say hey, by the way, they're not
- 28:34Speaker 10: just there to talk about Regatta. They're also saying, hey,
- 28:36Speaker 10: I have this idea. And so from Mary Beth Hoover,
- 28:40Speaker 10: who might be the biggest volunteer in the entire world,
- 28:44Speaker 10: she's absolutely amazing. I mean Mary Beth and Caitlin Cooke
- 28:47Speaker 10: and Chad Robinson and Bruce King and Brent Burton, and
- 28:52Speaker 10: I mean they were just crushing it for us, our
- 28:55Speaker 10: Regatta board members. I mean we you know Robbie Queen,
- 28:58Speaker 10: I think you know Robbie Queen the CMC Foundation, and
- 29:01Speaker 10: Brian Allowy's with United Way and Tara Ellis and just
- 29:04Speaker 10: they were out there all the time, Doctor Michelle, Michael Foster.
- 29:08Speaker 11: They care about this community.
- 29:09Speaker 10: By the way. You know these names, these are people
- 29:12Speaker 10: who are intimately engaged and involved and leading the way
- 29:15Speaker 10: in different aspects and different professions they were engaged involved in.
- 29:20Speaker 10: By the way, my chief of staff Matthew Sutton, who
- 29:23Speaker 10: burns the midnight oil at all times, he was also
- 29:26Speaker 10: talking to thousands upon thousands of people about thousands of
- 29:31Speaker 10: different issues. So the Regatta is important to the city
- 29:33Speaker 10: of Charlestown, but it makes us right there connecting one
- 29:38Speaker 10: on one with the public. And that's another aspect that
- 29:40Speaker 10: I don't think that people understand.
- 29:41Speaker 11: What we do in the City of Charleston.
- 29:43Speaker 4: The feedback. And we don't want to just talk about
- 29:47Speaker 4: the concerts, because that's.
- 29:48Speaker 5: What that's what that's the that's what must be con
- 29:50Speaker 5: fireworks is what most people want to talk about. The
- 29:53Speaker 5: thing about I will say this is about Lead of Ford.
- 29:56Speaker 5: You know, we did a promotion on our sister station
- 29:58Speaker 5: ninety eight seven The Mouth and Wild Wonderful Classic Rock,
- 30:00Speaker 5: where we gave away backstage passes to meet Lead to
- 30:02Speaker 5: Ford fifteen twenty or so. That's right, that's right, and
- 30:05Speaker 5: she was absolutely as cool as she could be. I
- 30:08Speaker 5: mean with the because sometimes I've been around enough musicians
- 30:11Speaker 5: to know that sometimes it's a chore and you can
- 30:14Speaker 5: tell when they're faking it.
- 30:16Speaker 4: She wasn't faking it. No, I mean genuinely, genuinely.
- 30:20Speaker 10: She doesn't have to. He doesn't have none of them
- 30:22Speaker 10: have to, let's be clear. But those performers came to
- 30:26Speaker 10: really put on a show for us. But I'll say this,
- 30:31Speaker 10: I had such a good time at the car show yesterday.
- 30:34Speaker 10: It was so incredibly fun. And these beautiful, beautiful trophies
- 30:38Speaker 10: that were custom made for our car show folks. And
- 30:42Speaker 10: the wrestling, the Sternwell Slambery Adam Harris, let me give
- 30:45Speaker 10: a shout out to him.
- 30:46Speaker 11: It was absolutely electric. And you know me don't. I
- 30:50Speaker 11: don't watch wrestling, but it was so it's become a
- 30:54Speaker 11: huge matart.
- 30:54Speaker 4: It's become such a huge part of the event.
- 30:56Speaker 11: Well, we can't have it in city Center now, we
- 30:58Speaker 11: absolutely have it.
- 30:59Speaker 10: We have to have that. It had Dad Riverfront Park
- 31:02Speaker 10: and that by the way, we don't pay Adam Harris
- 31:05Speaker 10: to do this, and he goes out and get sponsors
- 31:07Speaker 10: for this and they are glad to do it. Tutor's Biscuit,
- 31:11Speaker 10: the hot dog eating contest, which I'm gonna admit, Dave,
- 31:14Speaker 10: I have a very hard time watching. Yeah, And of
- 31:16Speaker 10: course I'm a mother, do you know what I said
- 31:17Speaker 10: to every single participant, please don't choke, Please take your
- 31:21Speaker 10: time in cho they're saying, okay, thank you, but Tutor's biscuit.
- 31:25Speaker 11: They came in.
- 31:26Speaker 10: We have to have it there now because there's so
- 31:28Speaker 10: many people. The Wiener dog races, the funeral my favorite,
- 31:33Speaker 10: you know, my favorite, the funeral parade. We had more
- 31:36Speaker 10: people particiing in the funeral parade than ever before. We
- 31:39Speaker 10: got clogged up, we got jammed because we had so
- 31:42Speaker 10: many people, and it looked, actually this year like a
- 31:45Speaker 10: huge funeral breade. There's so many people in the streets.
- 31:48Speaker 10: My parents came down to watch it against you know.
- 31:51Speaker 10: I kept saying, it's hot, guys, it's hot, Mom and dad,
- 31:54Speaker 10: please here you go. But my mom said, there were
- 31:59Speaker 10: so many people. I could heart really concentrate on anybody
- 32:01Speaker 10: one person because you'd see this big puppet and you'd
- 32:04Speaker 10: see this next person, and then the stern wheel races.
- 32:07Speaker 10: I mean, just ask Brian Hughes literally on the cell
- 32:10Speaker 10: phone with the entire time with Brian Hughes and Josh
- 32:14Speaker 10: Scott were sitting there yelling who's in first, who's in second?
- 32:18Speaker 11: I can't see it.
- 32:20Speaker 10: It was just it was absolutely incredible, and it's almost
- 32:27Speaker 10: like we have this. I don't even have to talk
- 32:30Speaker 10: to Brian anymore with like words. It's just like we
- 32:33Speaker 10: look at each other and say that thing, yep I
- 32:35Speaker 10: got and.
- 32:36Speaker 11: The other yep great.
- 32:38Speaker 10: I literally said that to him, David frees the thing
- 32:41Speaker 10: you got the and the guy yeah, okay great, and
- 32:43Speaker 10: he was like, yeah, I got it. We worked now
- 32:45Speaker 10: together so well and so seamless, with so many people.
- 32:50Speaker 10: And thanks to the Stern Wheelers for coming. We had
- 32:52Speaker 10: two Stern Wheelers that turned one hundred years old, the
- 32:55Speaker 10: rufous B two owned by Lou Wendell who got the
- 32:58Speaker 10: key to the city, key to the river. And thank
- 33:00Speaker 10: you to Brian for helping make that happen. And doctor
- 33:05Speaker 10: EAD's with the Miss Sterling. These boats are beautiful this community.
- 33:09Speaker 10: By the way, a couple broke down. You know what
- 33:12Speaker 10: the others did who were in the race.
- 33:13Speaker 11: They stopped.
- 33:14Speaker 10: They stopped and they said, let me help you. It
- 33:17Speaker 10: is who we are, it is what we do in
- 33:19Speaker 10: West Virginia and Appalachia. My mom it started raining. Brian said,
- 33:23Speaker 10: get on the boat.
- 33:24Speaker 11: Come on.
- 33:25Speaker 10: We call my mom honey. By the way, get on
- 33:26Speaker 10: the get on the boat. Honey, Brian took my mom
- 33:29Speaker 10: my moment.
- 33:30Speaker 11: It was raining.
- 33:31Speaker 10: That's what we do for one another. That's why people
- 33:35Speaker 10: like coming out, That's why people like sponsoring and being
- 33:39Speaker 10: with us, because we take care of one another. To
- 33:42Speaker 10: say that I'm always proud to be your mayor is
- 33:44Speaker 10: an understatement of the year, and I won't.
- 33:46Speaker 11: Do this forether.
- 33:48Speaker 10: But I love what I do because of the people
- 33:51Speaker 10: I get to work with and the things that I
- 33:53Speaker 10: get to do. It's not all funny games. By the way,
- 33:55Speaker 10: I'm going to have probably a thirty minute conversation about
- 33:59Speaker 10: what I really do, and it's about cement, because that's
- 34:01Speaker 10: what's on the agenda tonight.
- 34:03Speaker 11: It is.
- 34:04Speaker 10: It's about sanitation, it's about sewer systems. By the way,
- 34:07Speaker 10: that's what I do, folks. Ninety percent of my time.
- 34:09Speaker 10: It's about paving. It's about sidewalks, it's about dilapidated structures,
- 34:13Speaker 10: It's about police and fire and refuse and streets and traffic.
- 34:16Speaker 10: That is ninety percent. This is ten percent of what
- 34:19Speaker 10: I do, and I love it. When I'm talking about
- 34:22Speaker 10: paving and talking about sanitation, and when I'm talking about
- 34:25Speaker 10: ordinance and rules and better and bigger ordinances.
- 34:29Speaker 11: To protect you. That's what I also love to do.
- 34:32Speaker 10: But this is just a time that you know, we
- 34:33Speaker 10: call this our super bowl, you know of municipal government
- 34:37Speaker 10: and this administration of the regatta. But what we really
- 34:39Speaker 10: do is good work because we've got a good team
- 34:42Speaker 10: and good people. So thanks, thanks for letting me ramble
- 34:45Speaker 10: on and say that day. But it was it was
- 34:47Speaker 10: really important for me to say that I'm getting emotional
- 34:49Speaker 10: this morning. But and maybe it's lack of sleep and
- 34:51Speaker 10: only had one double cappuccino and normally in the morning
- 34:54Speaker 10: I have too after working out.
- 34:56Speaker 11: But I'm real proud today to be with the people

- 39:23Speaker 10: of family focused, fun things to do, and that's something
- 39:27Speaker 10: I think, Brian, that we're really proud of.
- 39:29Speaker 4: We really are.
- 39:29Speaker 2: There are things that there are things that we do
- 39:31Speaker 2: as Regatta we're nonprofit, but you won't see. And it's
- 39:36Speaker 2: purposeful because we're doing things in the community behind the scenes.
- 39:39Speaker 2: And I get chills because she knows what we do.
- 39:43Speaker 2: But we make sure kids are taking care of That's
- 39:45Speaker 2: about as much as I'll say. But we just it's
- 39:49Speaker 2: like the bikes that we do with. Yeah, it was rotary,
- 39:52Speaker 2: and you know, we've got in on the USA Cycling
- 39:55Speaker 2: stuff and it's grown every year.
- 39:56Speaker 10: We give one hundred bikes every way away every year.
- 40:00Speaker 10: That regarded as to kids, and we tied it in
- 40:03Speaker 10: with USA Cycling because it was a perfect thing, but
- 40:05Speaker 10: something to do for the kids and to give back.
- 40:07Speaker 10: We can't this can't just be about some good It
- 40:10Speaker 10: can be about a lot of good concerts and fireworks
- 40:12Speaker 10: and fun, but it always should remain about the kids.
- 40:15Speaker 10: Because you take care of the kids, everything else works
- 40:16Speaker 10: out of correct.
- 40:17Speaker 2: You know my doctor, as we talked about last week,
- 40:20Speaker 2: you know her her kids teenagers, they have wanted to
- 40:23Speaker 2: change the family plans to stay here for regard it
- 40:26Speaker 2: so fun and I mean they can go anywhere in
- 40:29Speaker 2: the world they went to they want to stay right
- 40:31Speaker 2: here West Virginia about it.
- 40:33Speaker 5: We had a text here it says from Aer Goodwin
- 40:35Speaker 5: and Brian, you know, maybe you could weigh this as well.
- 40:37Speaker 5: The fireworks were awesome, but the one thing everybody was
- 40:39Speaker 5: complaining about why was the music not blasted throughout the
- 40:42Speaker 5: sound system. If you didn't have an actual radio, you
- 40:44Speaker 5: had to listen to it streaming online, which has a
- 40:46Speaker 5: delay and mess up the synchronization. I can speak to
- 40:49Speaker 5: the streaming aspect though it there's about a forty I
- 40:51Speaker 5: mean even right now there's about a forty five second
- 40:54Speaker 5: delay from what is actually on the air. Because that's
- 40:56Speaker 5: just streaming. We can't we can't help with that. But
- 40:59Speaker 5: as far as the question about putting it through the.
- 41:01Speaker 2: I'll tell you this, it's going to be twofold.
- 41:04Speaker 15: We do.
- 41:04Speaker 2: We have devised Logan Scott and I and we've talked
- 41:07Speaker 2: about a plan next year to beat the delay. So
- 41:12Speaker 2: there is a plan. But secondly, I obviously work here
- 41:16Speaker 2: at WVRC Radio.
- 41:18Speaker 4: WVRC, I should say we have.
- 41:21Speaker 2: We've always made sure, even when I worked a Channel thirteen,
- 41:23Speaker 2: that we are on a level playing field for everybody.
- 41:27Speaker 2: And you know what's great, we all know each other
- 41:31Speaker 2: in this business, but everybody so a few of us
- 41:33Speaker 2: WI laugh right, that is true. There's that, but we
- 41:36Speaker 2: make sure that we treat everybody fairly same. You know,
- 41:40Speaker 2: when I was at thirteen, they didn't get a statistical advantage.
- 41:44Speaker 2: You know, I knew the schedule. I knew, I knew
- 41:46Speaker 2: everything about it.
- 41:47Speaker 10: Actually hit Brett Michaels actually said to me after I
- 41:49Speaker 10: met him after the concert. He said, Man, if I
- 41:51Speaker 10: don't know there's just going on, I'd have gotten back
- 41:53Speaker 10: up on stage and just kept rocking out.
- 41:55Speaker 11: I said, now you tell me now, A good question.
- 42:00Speaker 5: And Logan, Logan did a great job and putting that
- 42:02Speaker 5: together and his team and.
- 42:04Speaker 2: The backwards way of putting together. Because they had the
- 42:07Speaker 2: fireworks show done, they give us a shot sheet and
- 42:09Speaker 2: he produced it in reverse.
- 42:10Speaker 5: Yeah, in reverse. And he talked about that when he's
- 42:12Speaker 5: on the air with us on Friday. But again, all
- 42:14Speaker 5: the stations you know in town, take a take all
- 42:17Speaker 5: the companies. There's three companies in the town with different
- 42:20Speaker 5: stations under those umbrellas. And you know, I understand exactly
- 42:23Speaker 5: because I'm in the business. What you are saying is
- 42:26Speaker 5: that you know, we can't be the only game in town,
- 42:28Speaker 5: although we're the only one that matters.
- 42:29Speaker 4: I'm kidding.
- 42:31Speaker 10: Now, all of our media partners were great partners. I
- 42:34Speaker 10: think Brian can testify to this. I mean, and I
- 42:37Speaker 10: look forward to see me. Yeah, I mean, I really
- 42:40Speaker 10: think every single interview that I did throughout the week,
- 42:43Speaker 10: I kept saying, as I know Brian did as well,
- 42:46Speaker 10: thank you for doing this, thank you for getting out
- 42:48Speaker 10: because it's not just quick urgent weather alert, it's also
- 42:51Speaker 10: what time does something start? And and so we really
- 42:54Speaker 10: do appreciate all of our media partners, right.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Uh, Mayor Amy is our rock star, says the Texter.
- 42:59Speaker 11: That's a nice thanks mom.
- 43:01Speaker 4: And the other one said Lida is the Queen of
- 43:04Speaker 4: metal man.
- 43:05Speaker 10: She is she just is yeah, yeah, I mean, yeah
- 43:12Speaker 10: she is. It is so why Nona is a rock star.
- 43:16Speaker 10: She she looks like a porcelain doll. She's like god
- 43:21Speaker 10: and she smells lovely. But when we met her, I don't,
- 43:24Speaker 10: I guess I don't get that jazzed about, you know, like, oh,
- 43:27Speaker 10: this is somebody really famous, really important. I love I
- 43:30Speaker 10: love that, and that's so cool and I'm so excited
- 43:31Speaker 10: for everybody. I was a little starstruck, like she was
- 43:35Speaker 10: like beautiful and and Lida is just by the way,
- 43:41Speaker 10: They're all the nicest and sweetest Lida, like I said,
- 43:44Speaker 10: She's like, come in, can I get you something to drinks?
- 43:47Speaker 10: Like come here.
- 43:48Speaker 5: One of the cool things too, was that a few
- 43:49Speaker 5: of them, despite the fact that they are these big
- 43:52Speaker 5: stars and have to have bodyguards and things like that,
- 43:54Speaker 5: they were seeing around town.
- 43:55Speaker 4: Bobby Brown was over at Table Ring Toss and he
- 44:00Speaker 4: was over there.
- 44:01Speaker 5: One of the things I loved that Melissa Ethrege went
- 44:04Speaker 5: right around the corner to the music store over here
- 44:06Speaker 5: and was just hanging out in a music So I've
- 44:08Speaker 5: learned that about musicians over the years. They will seek
- 44:11Speaker 5: out a independence.
- 44:12Speaker 10: Well when you have an awesome store store like folklore.
- 44:15Speaker 10: Let me also say about Melissa etheris what she did
- 44:18Speaker 10: as well. She met privately. It's all over social media now,
- 44:22Speaker 10: so I'm not telling tales. She met with the West
- 44:24Speaker 10: Virginia Breast Health Initiative and breast cancer Survivors Brian as
- 44:27Speaker 10: you well know.
- 44:28Speaker 4: And she is.
- 44:29Speaker 11: She is a survivor.
- 44:30Speaker 10: And they said to her, when you lost your hair,
- 44:33Speaker 10: and when you got on stage and were jamming out
- 44:35Speaker 10: to Janice Joplin with no hair, what you said to
- 44:38Speaker 10: those of us who are breast cancer survivors.
- 44:40Speaker 11: I'm getting chill bumps now, Brian.
- 44:42Speaker 10: Is that we It's okay, You're okay, and you can
- 44:46Speaker 10: be who you are. That's that's who these these people
- 44:49Speaker 10: are as well.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll tell you nothing.
- 44:52Speaker 4: To give me thirty seconds, I got to go to
- 44:53Speaker 4: break seconds.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Every artist that's ever come here has has had an
- 44:58Speaker 2: outfit a boy, why notice, man, it's like the best
- 45:01Speaker 2: out there.
- 45:01Speaker 10: It was.
- 45:01Speaker 11: It was I mean, yeah, I didn't want to touch her.
- 45:04Speaker 11: It was like them. I was like, oh my gosh.
- 45:06Speaker 2: And by the way, the last also Vertical Rising, had
- 45:09Speaker 2: never sung that song that talks about the rain and
- 45:11Speaker 2: the rainbow in the rain in a rain, and it happened.
- 45:15Speaker 4: It happened, and I had all the video of it
- 45:18Speaker 4: and it was just awesome, amazing. All right, we got
- 45:21Speaker 4: to take a break.

- 47:09Speaker 5: I do want to say that we have city council
- 47:13Speaker 5: meeting tonight and there were several ordinances on the agenda tonight. Uh,
- 47:18Speaker 5: and there was one in particular. There are four proposed
- 47:22Speaker 5: bills I think that had to do with the treatment
- 47:23Speaker 5: of animals and that can you talk about that?
- 47:25Speaker 10: Yeah? Right, and the work continues for sure. There's a
- 47:28Speaker 10: couple that are for consideration tonight and brought by council
- 47:32Speaker 10: members King and steel Hammer requiring pet owners to automatically
- 47:37Speaker 10: forfeit ownership of their animals if they're charged with certain
- 47:39Speaker 10: offenses and failure to appear animal cruelty. It's going to
- 47:44Speaker 10: add bigger penalties for subsequent offenses and so you know,
- 47:50Speaker 10: cruelty to animals is something that our council members have
- 47:53Speaker 10: discussed and talked about, and tonight they are going to
- 47:57Speaker 10: put that for a vote. A lot of support behind it,
- 48:00Speaker 10: and you know, listen in municipal government. A couple other
- 48:02Speaker 10: things that we're doing is you know, approven contracts for
- 48:05Speaker 10: cement as as well. That doesn't always make uh for
- 48:09Speaker 10: good news, but by the way, that is the important. Yeah,
- 48:14Speaker 10: that is the work that we do.
- 48:15Speaker 5: Everything is not everything is not necessarily exciting, as you know,
- 48:18Speaker 5: but but you have to have it.
- 48:20Speaker 11: We have a text and Sean Taylor as well, consumer with.

- 48:28Speaker 5: Don't know whether we can do that or not, but okay,
- 48:30Speaker 5: we'll take a look at thet No, I get it.
- 48:33Speaker 4: So what's next for the City of Trust under this
- 48:35Speaker 4: a little bit of rest? I get it?
- 48:37Speaker 10: Uh, but well no, not not really, not really, yeah, no,
- 48:41Speaker 10: not really, And that's okay. By the way, that's what
- 48:43Speaker 10: you pay us to do. You pay us to continue
- 48:45Speaker 10: to work. You pay us to get up in the
- 48:46Speaker 10: morning and keep going on with our.
- 48:49Speaker 11: With our jobs. By the way.
- 48:50Speaker 10: This was a holiday weekend and every single city employee,
- 48:53Speaker 10: a lot of us were working, and so thank you,
- 48:55Speaker 10: thank you. But we love what we do and so
- 48:58Speaker 10: we're going to continue to do it. We've got a
- 49:00Speaker 10: lot of things happening this summer, still continuing. Of course,
- 49:03Speaker 10: are live on the levee. Not just that, but again,
- 49:06Speaker 10: one of the largest paving cycles we are going through
- 49:09Speaker 10: is happening right now. So we're going to continue to
- 49:11Speaker 10: pave streets and do curb cuts and ADA ramps and
- 49:16Speaker 10: those are also the things that we do in the
- 49:18Speaker 10: summertime as well, Dave, So we're going to remain focused
- 49:20Speaker 10: on that, sir.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Also, I didn't want to mention that with what was
- 49:24Speaker 5: going on at the Capitol, you know, yeah, yeah, So
- 49:27Speaker 5: it was like triple the amount of because you guys,
- 49:30Speaker 5: I know that primarily with the as far as police goes,
- 49:33Speaker 5: it was state and it was capital, but you guys
- 49:35Speaker 5: were involved in that, so you had all the people
- 49:38Speaker 5: in regard plus on the other end of the town.
- 49:40Speaker 4: You had that going on.
- 49:41Speaker 10: So it was a big ask, sure, and we're glad
- 49:43Speaker 10: to have it. And you know, we talk about police
- 49:45Speaker 10: and fire. Let me mention KRT. Thank you to Sean
- 49:47Speaker 10: Hill and his team at KRT talk about good community partners,
- 49:51Speaker 10: but we think about those in the sidewalks and streets
- 49:54Speaker 10: and cars and people moving in and out. Don't forget
- 49:56Speaker 10: the riverfront as well. We had our police crews and
- 49:59Speaker 10: our fire crew out on their boats patrolling, working with folks.
- 50:03Speaker 10: I sat and watched them even late last night as
- 50:06Speaker 10: we were making the transition from one one act to
- 50:09Speaker 10: the next. Our police boat go up to a boat
- 50:11Speaker 10: and say, hey, how you guys doing It's it's getting
- 50:14Speaker 10: kind of dark.
- 50:14Speaker 11: I see you have kiddo's swimming, y'all.
- 50:16Speaker 10: Okay, remember what our rules are, so please know that
- 50:19Speaker 10: it's not just the guys that you see patrolling the streets.
- 50:22Speaker 10: They're also out in the river making sure that people
- 50:25Speaker 10: are being safe, and of course during this time of year,
- 50:27Speaker 10: that's critical in the city of Charleston. We want to
