- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: There's something quite magical about the simple book.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Of course, you already know this since you're a writer.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: You're already committed to the art and craft of writing books.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: But it's interesting that so many writers don't make a lot of time to read.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: We love books and are committed to creating them, but we struggle with fitting reading into our schedules.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Reading is a critical part of the creative process.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Of course, we need to have other inputs as well, like listening to great talks, watching videos and movies, seeing plays, and other ways to experience great art.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: But above all, we must read.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Here's a very simple method for reading more, and that is take a book everywhere you go.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Now the truth is that if you have a smartphone and the Kindle app, you're already taking books with you everywhere you go.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: But let's assume that you prefer reading print books like most writers do.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: It may seem strange to carry a book with you everywhere, but it truly does work.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Think of all those little spare moments you have throughout the day.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: 10 minutes here while you're waiting to pick up your kid from school, 15 minutes there while you're waiting to get your license renewed at the DMV.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Five minutes here when you're waiting for your husband or wife in the store, twenty minutes there before your next Zoom call happens.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Mark Twain famously said, a person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: You don't necessarily need to block off huge chunks of time during the day to read.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: There's plenty of little moments here and there that will add up to 30 or even 60 minutes a day when you can expand your mind and fill your creative well with the amazing power of reading.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
