- 0:00I'm Brandon. And I'm Jesse, we're cannabis
- 0:02school. Having cannabis infused
- 0:05conversations. With everyday people.
- 0:07Cannabis companies. Celebrities.
- 0:09And your mom? Welcome.
- 0:11To the set I. Always have this feeling of, and
- 0:14I don't know if you have it, because sometimes that's what
- 0:16I've I've really enjoyed about about using cannabis or or
- 0:22psilocybin is that you get this feeling that this is all
- 0:27happened before, like civilization as it is right now,
- 0:32but just in a different way. We tend to look at advanced is
- 0:36like the update of the iPhone, you know what I mean?
- 0:39Or like the new graphics card for whatever.
- 0:43But when you think about advancement, like you think
- 0:45about us as humans right now. This kind of goes along with the
- 0:48thing I've been hearing a lot about is the lack of purpose
- 0:52that people feel in their lives that are a lot of depression
- 0:55comes from, you know, I feel that is that you have a lack of
- 0:59purpose. And so, but a long time ago,
- 1:04man, I, I just feel like, you know, the way that you'll have a
- 1:07lot of mainstream archaeology, you'll just say, Nope, it's been
- 1:11this old, right? Or it was 5000, then it went to
- 1:159000, then 12,000, and then they just found an organ last year, a
- 1:22stone dwelling totally made. It was over 20,000 years ago
- 1:27because they were able to find even blood preserved enough
- 1:32blood preserved on the site from their tools and their weapons.
- 1:37We'll see. But I've also seen documentaries
- 1:39where they've seen tools and things and footprints that
- 1:42match, like our footprints, not the Neanderthals.
- 1:46Whatever's about ours that are hundreds of thousands of years
- 1:49old or millions of years old potentially.
- 1:51Like there's these things that it's the dating is everywhere
- 1:56depending on whose perspective or what method they think is
- 1:59correct or what you. Know, right, and and we change
- 2:02like, you know, the idea that there's like a race that was
- 2:06like predominant or in one area or another to mean that's
- 2:09completely ridiculous. And in many aspects because you
- 2:12think about it every single different race where they are on
- 2:17a map like this is something I've thought about.
- 2:19Like you get really stoned and going, dude, what if all of us
- 2:24were planted here in different areas from different areas of of
- 2:30you know, whatever Galaxy dimensions, whatever, where
- 2:35we're all brought here because, you know, for I mean us to say
- 2:39like, yeah, we are all human, right?
- 2:41We all share like a certain DNA structure.
- 2:44Oh yeah, 100%. Right.
- 2:46Which the DNADNA to me is like, that's why for me my, my
- 2:53argument would go towards design, that the, that
- 2:57everything is all by design. The way it looks and the way it
- 3:01fits together and the way that now scientists can actually
- 3:05manipulate it based on the structure of the DNA, they can
- 3:10change it, which is just wild to think about, right?
- 3:14But the. Genome structure of the DNA
- 3:16strand and. But I think they've done that
- 3:18before. I think they've done all of that
- 3:21before. I think of like, you know,
- 3:23they'll talk about mythical creatures such as like a Griffin
- 3:27or anything like that maybe. You know, it's funny.
- 3:30So Addie is in mythology. It's cool.
- 3:33Cool, cool, cool. And so we very, very first day
- 3:37and I was like, you know, mythology is just kind of like
- 3:40old religions. They're just because that's all
- 3:42it is. It's like different religions in
- 3:44the past that they're like, well, it's mythology because
- 3:47look at all these creatures and these gods and all this stuff.
- 3:49And I'm like, it's just old religion.
- 3:51It's just stories from old religion.
- 3:52But, and I thought about it and I was talking to Finn about this
- 3:56because we discussed religion and history and all sorts of
- 3:59stuff, but the concept of like even biblically a lot of people
- 4:04are who are religious don't really study a lot of their.
- 4:09Yeah, yeah, Doctrine, they don't.
- 4:11And so it's like even looking at the Bible going, well, it talks
- 4:14about these monsters and creatures and giants and the
- 4:18Nephilim and all of these things.
- 4:19And it's like maybe that beginning, that beginning part
- 4:23of their biblical history or whatever is just the other part
- 4:27of Zeus and all the other monsters and gods.
- 4:29And they came down and had sex and created these.
- 4:31And, and there are all these things that it's like, OK, well,
- 4:34that's where Hercules and all these other stories came from
- 4:36maybe. And, and maybe all it is, is
- 4:38just one history of stories, followed by another one followed
- 4:42by another. Like, well, but you gotta think
- 4:44about, I mean, these people weren't just creative people,
- 4:47like, creativity, yeah, but like, fantasy.
- 4:50The monsters and the 8 the. No, I, I.
- 4:52Griffin or whatever, like all of the half these stories just come
- 4:56from other stories like the Bible or or mythology, you know
- 5:02Well, yeah, religion that it was like.
- 5:05I wonder if that's what a lot of it has just come through is
- 5:07like, they look at the oldest religions before and it's like,
- 5:10Oh, well, let's use these stories as like, yeah, stories
- 5:13and create. Religions.
- 5:14Heavens. There.
- 5:15When you go back to those things, at those times over
- 5:18there, religion is very different compared to what we
- 5:21consider. Religion, it's always shifted
- 5:23and it's, I mean, we have the worship of the sun and sun.
- 5:25Gods, No, no, no, no, I'm not saying that.
- 5:27But I mean, even even talking about they didn't see it as
- 5:30religion. They didn't even have the
- 5:32concept of religion. Most of them was just this is
- 5:35just the way. This is just how we do things.
- 5:38This is our culture. Yeah, but for understanding of
- 5:40conversation, religion, yeah. Oh no, I know.
- 5:44But I mean it's to say that they stated as religion over there.
- 5:48Because you called it religion. No, I know.
- 5:50But the, the here's the other thing though, and you have to
- 5:52really look at it because why would these people just make up
- 5:55stories? Because they are existing.
- 5:59No, I mean, there's differences. We live in a, we live in a, a
- 6:03first world. We live in a the.
- 6:05Existence was existing. Ours is.
- 6:09I'm bored and I don't feel like I have purpose because we're not
- 6:12hunting, we're not building our home, we're not existing, we're
- 6:16not doing all the stuff that it takes.
- 6:17So yeah, I could see them coming up with stories for survival
- 6:21purposes or entertainment or something for sitting around the
- 6:24fire. I think those stories were
- 6:26entertainment. I think some, yes.
- 6:28I think just like most people. And based on what?
- 6:31What do you base your ideas of stories on?
- 6:34What do you think their? Stories.
- 6:36A lot of those ones are based off.
- 6:38There were very few, like, fiction writers during that
- 6:42time. Yeah, there were.
- 6:43You can have like. So what do you think the?
- 6:46The. Majority of their stories were
- 6:48told from then or for. Well, they're passed down one to
- 6:51another, and I know the telephone game is a really great
- 6:54way of going. Oh, that gets messed up.
- 6:56You don't think they ever did stories for entertainment?
- 6:58I think they did, but I don't think in those cases because
- 7:01I'll tell you this one, because these aren't just.
- 7:03Cases, religious cases, stories, or what cases?
- 7:06Of well, what would you classify as religious?
- 7:08Well, I don't know many stories, history that are passed down.
- 7:11Really, really old ones that aren't.
- 7:13Let me ask you this do you remember where you were?
- 7:16On 9/11 yeah 100% Where in my history class in 9th grade.
- 7:21What happened? What do you mean?
- 7:23Do you remember what people were saying, what they were talking
- 7:26about, how you felt? No, I don't remember the
- 7:28conversation. Because you were just in shock
- 7:30of that. Yeah, I was. 14 there was came
- 7:34on on the news because they do morning announcements.
- 7:37I remember being I just came out of my workstation at the
- 7:41hospital and as I was walking out, somebody said no fucking
- 7:45way. And I go into the day room with
- 7:47all the inmates. Oh.
- 7:48Yeah, because it was what was on the TV.
- 7:50Well, we were like, oh, it all sounded like somebody
- 7:54accidentally had flown like a biplane.
- 7:56That's what I thought like a Cessna.
- 7:58And I'm like, oh, some because there was a guy a long time ago,
- 8:01like you think it was in Chicago.
- 8:02He ran his biplane into the A building and I thought it was
- 8:06the same thing. And I'm like, oh, man, that
- 8:09sucks. And then as we were watching, we
- 8:13saw the second one hit and you saw it was like a 747.
- 8:17And when that hit everybody like, oh.
- 8:20It just froze. But there was, we had a, we had
- 8:23an inmate there who was Muslim and he started saying we've been
- 8:27saying we're going to do this. And dah dah dah dah started
- 8:30screaming and I had to come between my staff and him because
- 8:34some of them I'm like, he's crazy guys.
- 8:36That's a whole different stop. See, I was in a high school in
- 8:40Provo, like freshman year of high school.
- 8:45Everyone was just in complete shock of like what in the fuck
- 8:48just happened because it shows like they put it on of like, oh,
- 8:52there's a fire. The tower just got hit and is
- 8:54it's literally watching it everyone, I mean half the
- 8:58nation, half the world sees the second plane come in and just
- 9:03smash into the second one. It was like what in the fuck
- 9:05just happened? And that's imprinted, you know,
- 9:08just like World War 2, like what started that World War One.
- 9:12I mean, you know, when you look at.
- 9:14Art, I'm sure everyone. Historical art done about that
- 9:17one like the closest cause we've we've kind of like romanticized
- 9:21the middle mid ages, Middle Ages and stuff like that.
- 9:23I've never thought about 'cause we, we always talk about 911.
- 9:28Yeah, my grandma's in her 90s. I've never gone.
- 9:32Grandma, where were you when the atomic bomb dropped?
- 9:34Where were you in Pearl Harbor? Happened?
- 9:36What? What was that moment that was
- 9:39going on? Or.
- 9:40Like wait, when she, when was she born?
- 9:41Let's see she's she'd be in 30s, early 30s.
- 9:44She made the mid 30s, she's mid 1930s.
- 9:46So she'd be 8, maybe nine. Yeah, and she might still
- 9:51remember what happened, but. It usually, I mean the people
- 9:54knew about it. I don't know how, because news
- 9:57wasn't the same. It wasn't like there was ATV, It
- 10:00wasn't like all this stuff. They might have had radio.
- 10:02They had radio. How often is that radio show
- 10:05coming on? It was.
- 10:06It came on it, it would come on in the middle of a program like
- 10:10there was like, you know, they would go BBBBBBBBBBB, you know,
- 10:13I just. Wonder is, is radio programming
- 10:15then like an all day thing? Where was it like certain times
- 10:18of the day that it would come? Out a lot of times people what
- 10:20they would do is after work like a lot of people did during like
- 10:24the 80s is like after dinner you'd watch TV yeah right you
- 10:28get the TV going 80s and 90s cause because you had programs
- 10:32at that time it wasn't instantaneous it.
- 10:34Was it came on at a certain time and if you wanted to watch your
- 10:383045 minutes of whatever show, you had to be there to watch it
- 10:42'cause it was before TiVo or DVR.
- 10:44And Yep, I miss that. I actually miss that because it
- 10:48your life doesn't become consumed with just gluttony
- 10:51because that's where I see streaming is is just gluttonous.
- 10:55It's hard not to watch the next episode, you know?
- 10:58Well, it it's the was it a documentary?
- 11:00There was something I was walking watching and it was
- 11:02talking about like social medias and the invention of all of
- 11:05these small changes. And it was, you know, the
- 11:08invention of streaming, the invention of the continuous
- 11:11scroll, because Facebook and that used to be Scroll down to a
- 11:14page and then you'd have to click next.
- 11:16Yep, I remember that now that continuous scroll has created
- 11:19this like never ending, never ending thing of like, no, no,
- 11:24no, we want your time, leave it here versus like, hey, Are you
- 11:27sure that you want to give your time?
- 11:29Are you sure you want to keep doing this?
- 11:32Do you want to keep? Are you still watching?
- 11:34Like, but you think about Netflix, how many hours of time
- 11:38does it have to be before it pops up and goes, are you still
- 11:41watching? Like that's a lot of our life
- 11:44that we just waste in some. Yeah, we choose.
- 11:48But like, I was thinking about it with who was it?
- 11:51One of my kids was talking about something and and they're like,
- 11:54yeah, these these people are, oh, it was some show talking
- 11:57about like Waldorf Academy and other stuff.
- 12:00And it was talking about like education levels and how they
- 12:02didn't introduce electronics into the students into until
- 12:07like a certain age. And prior to that their kids
- 12:10were way way smarter because they use their brain in a whole
- 12:14different way. And then they introduce not even
- 12:17computers in that until later in 10/12/13 because they figure it
- 12:23out how to think and learn and do on their own without all of
- 12:27this electric learning shit that we don't need but makes it
- 12:32easier. It's comfortable.
- 12:33It is. It's very comfortable.
- 12:35And so they come out with like these really highly developed,
- 12:38intelligent, smart kids. And I'm like, how much of our
- 12:41kids time, like what could they have learned or done or created
- 12:45just even in this like you talk about foe and when he gets into
- 12:48his creativity where he's just playing with his games and his
- 12:51monster, like his wrestlers and doing that and he's making the
- 12:54noises and talking voices and doing all that, What would he do
- 12:58if there was never that electronic side of like, what
- 13:01would he build and create? Oh, no, that's what he does most
- 13:04of the time. Like he'll it, it's not just
- 13:06playing the games. Like that's one of the things
- 13:08that I love about my son. Is that how?
- 13:09Much more our our kids and that would do if they had that and
- 13:15how much we would do how much time we like get stolen from us
- 13:19of just like. Wow.
- 13:20I wouldn't say it's stolen. I think we, we, we give it up.
- 13:23Yeah, it's, but it's there's a point that we yes, but it's
- 13:29like, Oh no, no, don't do that. No like.
- 13:32Still your choice. But we still choose it like it's
- 13:35so I say stolen in a way of like it is still stealing our time,
- 13:39but it's a shitty choice of like we're choosing that.
- 13:42Oh yeah, no, I, I totally, I, I totally agree with you on that.
- 13:46But like, how many hours? I think about it sometimes,
- 13:49like, oh, how much? If I put in this game, man, that
- 13:51was fun. I got a lot of time out of that.
- 13:53And I'm like, what? Just in my mind, sometimes I'm
- 13:56like, man, that's like a year's worth of work.
- 13:59And that's like that. What would what if I didn't do
- 14:02that? If I had created or built
- 14:04something, what would I have built in that time?
- 14:07Like, what would that version of Brandon Ben, if I wasn't this
- 14:11version of Brandon? And it's just this curiosity
- 14:13sometime of like, I wonder what the world would create if so
- 14:17many of us weren't just stuck in our coffin rectangles just
- 14:23staring at it constantly, you know, sucked into choosing to
- 14:27give our time to it. But like 1020 years ago, is that
- 14:30a choice you would have chosen? Hey, I'm gonna give up.
- 14:33If you looked at your screen time of like how many hours a
- 14:36day we pull on it, go back 20 years, would you ever have
- 14:39imagined? Hey, I'm going to stare at my
- 14:41phone for five hours a day. No.
- 14:43Fuck, he's stupid. I think we're, we're going to be
- 14:46closer to the precipice of, of how entertainment changes in our
- 14:50lives. I really feel that we're getting
- 14:52close to that one because. Hope it changes.
- 14:54Well, but we, you know, I, I get what you're saying there, you
- 14:57know, and I, I totally understand that where that that
- 15:00concept comes from stealing our time.
- 15:03Oh, no, no, I mean right now. Oh, I know, entertainment's
- 15:06pretty lame. The IT is shows the game like
- 15:08there's not a lot of great. No, not just creativity that's
- 15:12out. That's what I like.
- 15:14I like creativity and exactly what you state.
- 15:16And I think that's what people are getting to that point where
- 15:18they're so bored with that. Like that's why podcast do so
- 15:21well, because it's an opinion piece and they get to enjoy or
- 15:26engage in the conversation, which is human connection.
- 15:29Just open connection, right? We don't our purpose of our
- 15:33podcast is not to for you to buy shit.
- 15:35Like if we like shit we we say hey, you sure shit?
- 15:38And the volcano is amazing. We've been using that quite a
- 15:41bit lately. Yeah.
- 15:42Stores and Bickel codes below. Check them out.
- 15:45Check it out. I need to get AI need to get a
- 15:47crafty Yeah, but you know what I mean.
- 15:50It's the idea we choose that and I I see that what I'm saying
- 15:53like ancient civilizations. Why I showed that is that I
- 15:56think it came to that exact same point of complete focus into
- 16:03you, me. It's all about me, not about the
- 16:07existence of everybody together as a collective.
- 16:10Because you, you'd look at it like you take it anywhere in
- 16:13life right now where like recently I helped somebody meet
- 16:16somebody else for no reason other than, Oh, you should meet
- 16:20each other because you have similar goals.
- 16:23And they were immediately like, what, what can I do for you?
- 16:26And I'm like, oh, it's not necessary.
- 16:28I did that for the kindness of it.
- 16:31And then now that person is always like, hey, this is going
- 16:34on. Hey, this is going on because we
- 16:37we want to give each other that same feeling that we just
- 16:39received, right? It sounds like manipulation, but
- 16:43what it is is it's emotional ping pong because you're just
- 16:46going back and forth, same volley back.
- 16:48It's like, oh hey, look, I got you, but it's not because
- 16:50there's a quid pro quo. No, it's for the fun, it's for
- 16:54the engagement, the feeling for. The When you truly care and love
- 16:58your neighbor as yourself, anyone is your neighbor.
- 17:02Yeah, it's just like, oh, hey, I want to see you succeed and
- 17:05happy and there's a person or a thing or a business that
- 17:10actually might be perfect for that.
- 17:12And I don't it's not because God, I need to see myself better
- 17:17than that. It's you're you're talking to me
- 17:20and I know that there's this thing that I've got that.
- 17:23It's like when I hear people go, man, I heard of this.
- 17:26Have you tried cannabis? Have you thought about using
- 17:29even a balm or like all these things that it's simple stuff
- 17:33where? Thing I ask people, you ever
- 17:35thought about using cannabis? Yeah, and it's just like, OK,
- 17:37how many times are we doing that same thing?
- 17:39Why are we gatekeeping happiness or helping someone else going,
- 17:44hey, well, what's in it for me to make you help, like to get
- 17:48further in your life? There needs to be something in
- 17:51it for me. Well, that's why I, I, you know,
- 17:53when I look at it, it's just the whole concept of, of being able
- 17:58to feel like it's, it's not a big deal.
- 18:00Like we don't desire things when we are connecting with other
- 18:05people. I don't even want to say serving
- 18:07other people because it shouldn't feel like service.
- 18:10It just should feel like it's a the thing to do.
- 18:12Yeah. Wouldn't that be cool where you
- 18:14just did nice things? Because not because you're going
- 18:17to get something from it, not because somebody's going to
- 18:19recognize it just because you can.
- 18:21Yeah, Like why not? That's just it.
- 18:23I like you said, it's not really service.
- 18:26I think it's service in the mindset of like, hey, this isn't
- 18:31normal. Why?
- 18:32Why isn't it just our normal of like, hey, I see this person, I
- 18:38have this person, I'm talking to this person.
- 18:40There's a million times in our lives that someone happens.
- 18:45And yeah, maybe it's unsolicited advice, but then it's hey, can I
- 18:49do you mind, Can Ioffer you something like asking if we can
- 18:54give them assistance or whatever it is in that moment.
- 18:57But like, it shouldn't be a service.
- 19:00It should just be. I'm not providing anything.
- 19:03I'm just. This is how we exist.
- 19:05Yeah, I'm just existing. I'm just going, hey, there's a
- 19:08something that you might not have heard of or you didn't
- 19:10maybe know this, and I'm going to share my knowledge the same
- 19:13way I hope that you might share yours.
- 19:16Well, it's like asking somebody to take like a 50 LB bag and go
- 19:21up a hill by themselves and they're like, yeah, I'm going to
- 19:24go up the hill. Well, what if somebody else
- 19:26helps you? Well, I mean, it could make it a
- 19:28little cumbersome, but no, I would make it easier on me.
- 19:30Now the hills even higher than you imagined.
- 19:33Or what if there's a cart and there's four people and each
- 19:35person has a corner of that and the bags in the middle?
- 19:38Instead of 1 strong one behind because the rest of us become
- 19:42more reliant upon them. Then we don't build the strength
- 19:45to push that cart. And so when once this starts to
- 19:48get more about individualized, then we stop pulling our own
- 19:52weight. What do you think it was that
- 19:54pushed us so far from community and building community and not
- 19:59into just our egos and the self and like?
- 20:03What would, what is, what is money symbolize now to do
- 20:07whatever you want when you want, Yeah.
- 20:10It's the I I am here on the pole and you're you're here.
- 20:14Yeah. I drive this car and you drive
- 20:16this car. I have this finishing in my
- 20:19house. Oh, I have this phone.
- 20:20I've got this TV. You know, I and it's like, why,
- 20:23why is that make you feel like you are better than Why?
- 20:27Why do I feel like that makes me lesser than?
- 20:32Yeah, exactly. You know, there's a movie.
- 20:34It's, it's a random movie. There's a really good quote and
- 20:37I'll, I'll send it to you later on.
- 20:38But the way I look at money is the level of fuck you boss is
- 20:42being a Dick to me and I, I just don't really care to be able to
- 20:45take this type of abuse. Fuck you.
- 20:47I have enough money then I can say fuck you.
- 20:50I don't have to do whatever you tell me to do.
- 20:53I do what I want to do and what I want to do is be super in this
- 20:59and and I don't want this to be misconstrued, but I want to be
- 21:02an influence of good. That's it.
- 21:04Not for the purpose of getting recognition for good, but just
- 21:08making because. Because what else are you going
- 21:10to be like if you're not an influence for good?
- 21:13What are you influencing? Yeah, because the you're
- 21:15influencing someone around you no matter what.
- 21:18Yeah, 100. Percent is you're constantly
- 21:20going to be influencing someone. So are you are you influencing
- 21:24good or evil or like what side or indifference or like hatred,
- 21:29like what is it that you teach? And so it's I would, like you
- 21:35said, I would much rather just for me, I feel better when I'm
- 21:39happy, when I'm treating other people's the way I want to be
- 21:43treated like a nice person, not like an asshole where I'm like,
- 21:47oh shit, hey, that. I'm sorry.
- 21:49That was my shortcoming. I wasn't in my best state there.
- 21:53Like if we could always try and do that and fuck.
- 21:56Like that's why I smoke weed, because human existence is
- 22:00tough. You know, one of the things that
- 22:01I love about weed is that because I live a very Christ
- 22:05centered life, you know, not as a status.
- 22:08And I, I hope that people know that I, I don't carry as a
- 22:11status. I carry it as a, as, as a, a
- 22:15moment of gratitude, because what it's taught me is to love
- 22:18other people like I truly live that I don't, I don't care about
- 22:22all the other, you know, optics of any type of religion.
- 22:26I, I think all of them are so flawed.
- 22:28And at the same time, it's a good starting point to go with.
- 22:32But then over time, if it becomes all that makes of you, I
- 22:37think it's shallow. I think it's materialistic in
- 22:40its own way. You know, what I thought about
- 22:42from my talks with Finn the other day is that a lot of the
- 22:46religions, maybe they all started because there's similar
- 22:49threads of stories, of course of them is that I'm sure from the
- 22:53start the intent was good. Hopefully, hopefully.
- 22:58And that eventually one person came in and was like, oh, what
- 23:02if we just manipulated this little bit and it was like, OK,
- 23:06that's that's fine. Like somehow that one got
- 23:08through and then another person came in and was like, ah, well,
- 23:10what if we manipulate just for this little bit, someone else
- 23:13came in and it just continued and continued and continued
- 23:17until it became a whole different thing that was ever
- 23:21intended from the start. And it becomes at the end a
- 23:24whole way disfigured machine at the end that you're like, what
- 23:30is that? It's so far separated from the
- 23:32initial story. And it's so sad to see.
- 23:35And it's like, wait, but I don't know if there can be that large
- 23:39of an organization of type without that happening like that
- 23:43big of a machine without one cog here or.
- 23:46There you. Know we need to change this or
- 23:49change this or change this or do this or what.
- 23:51I like this better. This resonates with me like.
- 23:55I think it comes from comfort. I mean, I always land on that
- 23:57one, But you think about it because before you know, the way
- 24:01that the perception of religion say, let I, I, I like to
- 24:05reference the New Testament, right?
- 24:07Christ didn't show up to say the church is right.
- 24:10He said that the church is wrong.
- 24:12All of them are wrong because this is all you should do.
- 24:16And then what did his followers do?
- 24:18Well after and the church, No, they didn't create a church.
- 24:23People after created a church. The only thing they did was they
- 24:26went around and served and when. Right then.
- 24:29Yeah, right. Then it was others Well after
- 24:33the first four, the main the main stories of the apostles,
- 24:37right Mark, Luke, John. Yeah, I'm trying to think.
- 24:44It's been a long time since studying the rise of
- 24:49Christianity and Catholicism. No, yeah, but it's always seen
- 24:52because of the reason why. It's because it's so difficult
- 24:55when you think about those followers as and, and, and I'll
- 24:58finish this and and jump in, right.
- 25:01It's the those followers just lived as what they were taught.
- 25:05They didn't believe until he came back.
- 25:10That's what pushed the because they still didn't when he died,
- 25:14they went into hiding. They were terrified because they
- 25:17killed him and he promised them they'll kill you too.
- 25:21If you follow me, you'd they will kill you too.
- 25:24And they were like, oh shit, what?
- 25:26They were terrified. But then when they saw him and
- 25:28then when he left because he was there for 40 days after, they
- 25:33don't go into depth about that. A lot of it from that time.
- 25:36Definitely talks about it, yeah. And then other other people had
- 25:39talked about it, not just those individuals, because they
- 25:43weren't written by those individuals at that time.
- 25:45They were just followers, which actually kind of goes along with
- 25:48what Christ was doing in the 1st place.
- 25:50Christ didn't say write this down.
- 25:52You know what I mean? I think that the books are
- 25:54created based upon that one because they go, look, we talk
- 25:57about this all the time. We should probably write this
- 26:00down, but you didn't need to because it's not as difficult as
- 26:04a giant book. No, it's never that.
- 26:07Like the love your neighbor, love yourself, love God kind of
- 26:11idea but is the simplest concept.
- 26:16But even it it's also faith it it.
- 26:20My favorite character in the Old Testament is Joseph because this
- 26:23guy got fucked every which one? Technicolor Dreamcoat.
- 26:26Yeah, that one. But the.
- 26:28Sold them to Egypt. Yeah, because the, the whole
- 26:30thing, dude, it sucks because he's going along.
- 26:32He's he's the youngest brother at the time and he's always
- 26:36super nice and his dad loves him above all other his sons and he
- 26:42had him when he was old and the other brothers who were older,
- 26:45they fucking hated him. They're just fucking Joseph
- 26:48always getting old it. Just makes me think of Nephi.
- 26:51So no. But this one's where they shove
- 26:53him into a pit, right? Oh yeah, totally.
- 26:55Just the whole yeah. But Nephi, everything worked out
- 26:58for him. Not this guy.
- 27:00What happens to him? They're like, they leave and
- 27:04they're like, we should probably go back in the car.
- 27:06We go back and then they see these Egyptian guys go by.
- 27:09They're like, Hey, you guys looking for a slave and then
- 27:11they sell them and then they take his, the, the coat that he
- 27:15had his father had made for him, dip it in blood and saying an
- 27:18animal got to him. So he's totally destroyed.
- 27:20What happens to him? He becomes a slave, but he's not
- 27:24only a slave, he's just really good.
- 27:26He, he reminds me of you. Joseph would be like you.
- 27:28He's very meticulous and loves to be on time.
- 27:32Like he's keep shit going. Dude.
- 27:34He's like an operations guy. He was like the best VP of
- 27:36operations, so much that the king who trusted him with
- 27:40everything, his wife was like, damn money bags over there
- 27:45looking good. And she's always, I, I was
- 27:47joking around with my son, 'cause he's like, what's so good
- 27:50about that story? So I started telling my version.
- 27:52And it's like every time Joseph walked past the King's wife,
- 27:56she'd be like, hey, let me get that Dick woman.
- 27:59Yeah, stop. And they come by and she like,
- 28:01cuts his balls and she's like. Like they write the story and
- 28:05it's there's so much stuff in those stories that you're like,
- 28:08do they? They glanced like everyone just
- 28:11glazed right over that. Do they know it?
- 28:13And it started. Dude, I love that.
- 28:15One like it's just so funny because you think about it and
- 28:18you're like, they talk about how little or think there's not
- 28:22anything in their Bible, but you go through or their stories.
- 28:25Oh, it's and it's the things you're like.
- 28:27Wait, what? Well, that's the thing.
- 28:29Like. I did.
- 28:29I just did. I read what I just I think I
- 28:31read. This is like, you know it, it
- 28:34gets so crazy where Joseph like keeps grabbing at him and then
- 28:37finally, dude, she she snakes like this fucking sash or
- 28:41something like that, a piece of cloth.
- 28:42And then he's like, stop it, OK, The king trust me and how he can
- 28:47keep trusting me if I'm fucking you.
- 28:49And he walks away in a huff. Right.
- 28:51She's like the Hebrew. He banged me and just left and I
- 28:55just grabbed this. Yeah, right.
- 28:57So he puts him in prison, right? He's in prison.
- 28:59He gets there, you're in prison. And the way that everybody talks
- 29:03about it, like the way I hear a lot of Mormons talk about it,
- 29:06like it was just super horrible. No, dude, this guy was like, he
- 29:10just, things just went his way. He gets down there and he's
- 29:13like, fuck. In case you guys didn't know the
- 29:15story of Joseph. No, this, this is the new
- 29:18version. And so he's down there and he's
- 29:20like, fuck. And then the guard goes, hey, I
- 29:22know you, you keep everything running really smooth.
- 29:25How would you like to help me run this jail?
- 29:27So he runs the jail and then these two guys get thrown in
- 29:30there, the the wine, the cupbearer and the Baker, and
- 29:35they start having these dreams. He interprets the dreams.
- 29:38He gets out. This guy keeps landing it to the
- 29:40point where I Fast forward it. He makes Egypt to where it's
- 29:45where it is at. They talk about him in the
- 29:48Egyptian holographics that they have written during that time.
- 29:51They talk about the foreigner or the Hebrew that saved Egypt and
- 29:57they found some statues recently that resemble him that no other
- 30:02statue. Look resemble a Jew.
- 30:04Well, it's different. Their hair is red, which is kind
- 30:07of crazy because you go back into ancient times, like when
- 30:09they find giants and stuff, they all have red hair, crazy stuff
- 30:13like that. So.
- 30:14So I just think that human existence isn't this 5000 and
- 30:18there's a timeline of all this other things, right?
- 30:21If anything, I, I would say this like if you go through the the
- 30:27Gospels of Christ, he talked in parables all the time to throw
- 30:32you off. So when they demanded what's
- 30:35going to happen, he gave them parables, he gave them stories
- 30:40to go. You figure out the meaning
- 30:42behind it and then you'll know. And the only thing that I've
- 30:46gathered from it is it doesn't matter about the future.
- 30:50It matters about now and what I'm doing to change how I am
- 30:54now. Like what you said, wouldn't it
- 30:56be great? What could we do to change it?
- 30:58It's a we start to make that change.
- 31:00And when we think about that intent, you stop drifting into
- 31:04there. I've I've noticed that the only
- 31:07time I play video games is with you or I got that new game
- 31:11Crimson Desert. It's a funny thing, dude.
- 31:13It allows you to be charitable in the game.
- 31:15There's poor people all throughout.
- 31:17That's wild. And you can just give them a
- 31:20penny and they go, oh, thank you, I'll do the same for you
- 31:22later. That's hilarious.
- 31:24And when you give it to one, they start to gather, they come
- 31:27towards you. And I was like, this is kind of
- 31:29cool. Like we talk about that, right?
- 31:31Just giving because you have. And I started giving.
- 31:36Even if I don't, and I don't do it because I'm going to get
- 31:39something in return, I do it because I know that I am going
- 31:44to be blessed by doing that for that person where maybe they'll
- 31:47do it for somebody else. Yeah.
- 31:49Well, it's, it's kind of like an you think about it all the time.
- 31:53How many times do we have a negative interaction and that
- 31:58negative interaction goes into another interaction and then
- 32:01another one. And it's like so that same exact
- 32:05thing happens with good. We can have.
- 32:08A good, happy, kind interaction. And not only is our next kind
- 32:13interaction better, so is that person.
- 32:15Oh yeah. And it's that pass it on of
- 32:18like, how many times do we walk through a parking lot, walk
- 32:21leaving Costco and someone's carrying a big thing or trying
- 32:24to load it in their car And we just keep walking, you know,
- 32:26versus just going, hey, I can grab the other side of this
- 32:29takes like half a second and we just put it in real quick.
- 32:33It's that, you know, mindset of, well, I'm driving and I got to
- 32:36be in first or I got to be up here because, well, you can't
- 32:39get in or you can't do this. And it's like, but traffic flows
- 32:43so much smoother if we all just go, oh, all right, cool.
- 32:46Well, we don't need to get up and slam on brakes.
- 32:48This guy's coming into traffic. Maybe I should go over a lane.
- 32:51I don't know. Fucking wild, right?
- 32:54Like simple things, you're like, all right, there is more than me
- 32:57in this existence. I can look at community.
- 33:00I can do these things to try and have a better existence, A
- 33:04happier existence. And like I feel better when I
- 33:08have good interactions or even if I'm like trying, if I don't
- 33:12feel like being happy or talkative or something, and I go
- 33:15out of my way and go, Oh no, I should, I should talk to the
- 33:18checker, like cashier, I should go through this instead of that
- 33:21one. Like I end up feeling better
- 33:24anyway because I chose to do that.
- 33:27And it's sometimes it's the uncomfortable thing because,
- 33:30well, we've been so used to going through this one or
- 33:33choosing not to talk to someone or go out and help someone or do
- 33:37this. Like it's getting out of that
- 33:38comfortable zone and going, hey, let's do something different.
- 33:41Let's find that change and make be the change, I guess.
- 33:44No very Yoda, right? We have to learn what we have
- 33:47learned because it's, we've learned that it's, it's we, we
- 33:52give the sense of safety by being able to communicate
- 33:56through the digital landscape because if we don't like it, we
- 34:01turn it off. But if it goes off in person,
- 34:06it's usually because we're too concerned about how we're
- 34:08perceived as opposed to just connecting with them, right?
- 34:12Like, and, and that's the thing, like we were taught even during
- 34:15when I was growing up, when you were growing up, is that you
- 34:17judge people based upon how they dressed or what acted or how,
- 34:23what they drove or what, how much money they had, right?
- 34:27When I was a kid like it didn't matter.
- 34:29Nope, no one gave a shit What Car your parents had or any of
- 34:32it like. Nobody was like, oh dude, like
- 34:36you rarely saw that. And if you saw a Corvette, you
- 34:38were like, whoa, that guy's got a lot of money because it but I.
- 34:43Don't think I ever even correlated it with money.
- 34:45I I would correlate it with money.
- 34:47Oh, that's a cool car. Yeah, yeah, no, when I saw a
- 34:50Lamborghini. Oh, a Lamborghini, Yeah.
- 34:52That no, but like a long time when I was a kid I saw a
- 34:54Lamborghini guntage. Just like.
- 34:56And I was just like, whoa, that looks like a like a science
- 34:59fiction. It was like a spaceship.
- 35:00Yeah, there was always 1A Lamborghini Gallardo.
- 35:03That would be worked almost right way.
- 35:06Classic skating. Oh yeah, at Tunex or whatever
- 35:09and I would drive past and I would see that or like a Ferrari
- 35:13once in a blue moon and was never like, Oh my God, that
- 35:16person's got to be so rich. It was like.
- 35:17That's a cool car. That is a cool car.
- 35:20Yeah, that's all I thought about when I was a kid too.
- 35:22That's a cool car. Yeah, I I think the money never.
- 35:25Mattered, it was never how much money do your parents make?
- 35:28Hey, how, how about this or what?
- 35:30None of that shit. Well.
- 35:32Even really rich people, like the only thing we had around
- 35:36there in the 80s, nineties was Lifestyles of the Rich and
- 35:39famous that came on TV and you got to see like this British
- 35:43dude touring these like random mansions.
- 35:47Like there wasn't everywhere. And then when you see like
- 35:50places in coastal California and in New York and they're full on
- 35:54giant homes of what? Like it doesn't make any sense
- 35:58to have a home that big and they go, well, it's to protect you.
- 36:02What? Because you probably it cost you
- 36:05more to upkeep that whole property than it does for you to
- 36:09just buy a much smaller one. Or if you want to be on your
- 36:12own, build a really nice smaller thing in the middle of fucking
- 36:16nowhere big. Property and just have.
- 36:18Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, it doesn't make
- 36:21sense, right? So it's this idea of when we try
- 36:24to get more than the other, we force isolation.
- 36:27It's like a, a friend of our, well, an individual we both know
- 36:31lost all of his money and he identified with money, 100% with
- 36:38money. And he, he gave that perception
- 36:41to everybody knowingly that he knew that people didn't like him
- 36:46for him. They liked him for his money.
- 36:48And so he used that as the glue for all of his relationships.
- 36:53Like he was dating a woman and she's like, oh, I really need I
- 36:57mean everybody's like, oh, she's amazing.
- 36:58I know who this woman is. I don't think she's that
- 37:00amazing. I think she's a con artist and
- 37:03she was getting 10,000 a month from him.
- 37:08And he has this like I got to save everybody feeling because
- 37:12he didn't feel enough purpose with all the money.
- 37:14He's making eight figures. Yeah, that's all.
- 37:17I mean, you saw his car, right? Nice little Beamer over there.
- 37:21But it was sad because only it was only his, like it was his
- 37:26cheapest car that he had. I mean it was just like that's
- 37:28all he said. But when he was filthy rich, he
- 37:31was fat as fuck. Unhappy.
- 37:33His wife hated him. Yeah, his whole life fell apart
- 37:37at the story of him eating in his kitchen, watching his kids
- 37:41play in Mexico, and he finished all their plates and nobody ate.
- 37:44And his wife watched him the whole time.
- 37:46And I'm thinking how she, what she said next was like, so much
- 37:50hatred towards him. You make me sick.
- 37:54Oh, if I know, I I eat for feelings and I never.
- 37:58I mean, what a wake up call. But you know, what did it do?
- 38:02What did it, what did it ended up with?
- 38:03Right? Who cares?
- 38:05He who has the most toys when he dies, wins.
- 38:08Yeah. How?
- 38:09Well, it was like Grandpa Holt when he died.
- 38:12And he's like, oh, well, you guys all have enough.
- 38:14I'm going to give it to the church now.
- 38:16And I'm like, what do you you could have done so much good
- 38:19with that. Yeah, give it to other
- 38:20organizations or like they don't need your money.
- 38:23A poor family, like there's a million things that it could
- 38:26have, could have lit up fire warm.
- 38:28Like, and that's what I would wish to do dude, like that you.
- 38:32Can't take it with you when you. You can't and that's why you,
- 38:35you have to prepare for those who are here.
- 38:37And that's why like now, like it's not just like getting like
- 38:40life insurance, stuff like that, but it's making choices
- 38:44throughout, like making relationships, I've noticed.
- 38:47Well, what's going to get you more money, having a great idea
- 38:50or having more friendships, more friendships because those
- 38:54friendships can introduce you to people to create your idea into
- 38:57a reality. Who knows?
- 38:59And when you're always seen as a person who's trying to help
- 39:03others enhance their reality, other people want to do the same
- 39:06for you. And that's where I like, I see
- 39:08opportunity everywhere where like even now with my job, I
- 39:13mean, you know, I'm, I'm in the in the Gray zone right now
- 39:17because it's not as easy as you would think.
- 39:20And it's not easy for anybody. And that's why it's so hard.
- 39:23That's why it's they, the risk is so high and I have another
- 39:28opportunity coming up and all I'm thinking about is don't
- 39:31think about this and money. Think about this and how you can
- 39:34actually impact people say this works.
- 39:37If this helps other people, that's what you should do.
- 39:40So it's all I keep thinking about every day.
- 39:41And I'm like, if it feels like it's going to help somebody,
- 39:44that's what you should do. Like, you know, Jordan will be
- 39:46like, Hey, I got this one company.
- 39:48I'm like, what do they do? Oh, they do lawn care.
- 39:50Not interested in doing anything with it.
- 39:51Dude, if you want to do it, great.
- 39:53I I don't want to write or create.
- 39:55They don't appreciate and all they care are about as their
- 39:58money. I don't give a shit about that.
- 40:00But if somebody's like, yeah, I'm trying to start this
- 40:02nonprofit, but I'm having a really hard time coming up with
- 40:05ideas. And I know I don't know anybody
- 40:07who does this. I'm like, I know people there.
- 40:09Let me make those introductions right away here.
- 40:11I'll text and make that introduction right now.
- 40:13And let me help you come up with something because I can, not
- 40:16because I get something for it. And when we're we start to do
- 40:20that like it's cool because everybody else starts joining in
- 40:23when they're around you. So you can be that influence of
- 40:26good not to be recognized as what would Jesse do or what
- 40:30would Brandon do? But more on the says, what would
- 40:32I do? And what I would do is I would
- 40:34be a decent fucking human being and help somebody regardless.
- 40:37I try to go out of my way now to not look for differences between
- 40:42me and you. I look for what is something
- 40:45that we can both agree on and that's being happy.
- 40:48That's it. I don't, I don't need to agree
- 40:50with a, a politic review point because that's somebody else's
- 40:53that convinced you enough to follow on to that.
- 40:56That's it. It's it's not your own original
- 40:59idea, your own original idea, but making sandcastles.
- 41:01When most of that is truly laughter, right?
- 41:05Not like, hey, this is really what I believe in and what I
- 41:08would want at the end of the day.
- 41:09It's more like, here's a situation we're in and we're
- 41:12both frustrated and we both feel helpless, so let's bitch and
- 41:15moan and. Yeah, and that's right.
- 41:16And individualism. And it's great to do that, but
- 41:19if there's no real purpose or agenda, like you don't get
- 41:24anywhere with it. There's no intent behind it of
- 41:26like hey I want to have this discussion because I really want
- 41:30to try and figure out a way to try and solve this.
- 41:33Well then. There's that.
- 41:34Is that a thing you can do, or is it just something that you're
- 41:38focusing on because it's everywhere and you're frustrated
- 41:40and stressed and it's, you know, it's hard to get your mind off
- 41:43of stuff. Well, and consumerism drives the
- 41:45individuality like into you know how much it's, I know that
- 41:49people go like, no, this is me as an individual.
- 41:51I totally get that. But a lot of times individualism
- 41:54leads you to loneliness because you're constantly just focused
- 41:58on what's negative in there instead of saying what makes me
- 42:01happy and what makes me happy is expressing myself like this.
- 42:05Cool. But when it becomes a point of
- 42:08contention and it's another side trying to focus their point of
- 42:11good, you just have to go. That's your viewpoint.
- 42:14That's totally fine. But I need to ask myself, is my
- 42:17viewpoint worth arguing about? Do I want, do I want a
- 42:21discrepancy between those or can I find commonality?
- 42:24It's like a lot of LDS people that I talked to over there.
- 42:27There's a lot of things that I don't agree with that at all and
- 42:31but I like them for who they are, not what, you know, the
- 42:35idea of how they pray to a deity, you know what I mean?
- 42:39It's my dad. I've learned.
- 42:40Hey, I just either will listen to his because I don't need to
- 42:45be, right? I don't need to.
- 42:48If I don't want to have the conversation, I don't need to
- 42:51push questions or statements that further that type of
- 42:54conversation, right? It's really easy to segue,
- 42:58change, move a conversation to something different.
- 43:00If I don't want to talk about it.
- 43:02I can even go, hey, I don't want to talk about this if I don't
- 43:06want to do it in a tactful way of just migrating the
- 43:08conversation elsewhere. That is always a choice.
- 43:11I don't have to choose to engage because it's all this ego of
- 43:15like, well, no, but this. And I'm like, what is this point
- 43:19that I'm trying to prove? Because in this moment, I know
- 43:22deep down if I really sit back and go shut the fuck up,
- 43:25Brandon, listen for a second. You're not going to convince him
- 43:28and he's not going to convince you.
- 43:30So what is the purpose of this conversation?
- 43:32Is it to get, is it for him to prove he's right?
- 43:35Is it for you to prove you're right?
- 43:37Because you both know you're not gonna do anything.
- 43:39So the other one's really not going to feel educated on the
- 43:42other side. So what is the purpose of that
- 43:44conversation there? Yeah.
- 43:46Am I gaining anything there? No.
- 43:48Is he gaining anything there? No.
- 43:50OK, well, let me talk about something that might have value
- 43:54or purpose for both of us that could be anything else.
- 43:58And it's really interesting because I found I have less
- 44:02argumentative conversations with my father because, well, both of
- 44:05us aren't going well. We're right.
- 44:07And let me teach you why when neither of us is going to listen
- 44:11and truly go, oh, OK, because he's never read anything I've
- 44:15read and I know who he is and he's not going to read anything
- 44:18I've read. And unfortunately.
- 44:21The fear of change, all the stuff.
- 44:22That he's read. I've already read and gone
- 44:24through, so there's no argument here that gets anywhere.
- 44:29I, I heard the best argument for it and I won't say the guys name
- 44:32over here because you know, people, I can't believe you.
- 44:34I, I look at all opinions and I found it interesting because it
- 44:38was. And I, he's an orthodox.
- 44:40Orthodox. He's a part of the Orthodoxy.
- 44:43So the Orthodox Church is very different.
- 44:46Like you have to apply to be in their church.
- 44:48You have to go through several different, you know, ceremonies
- 44:51or whatever like that. Like everybody's got their own
- 44:53thing, right? It's not just Mormons who have
- 44:56weird shit going on, right? Exactly signs and got a fist
- 44:59bump and. Yeah, dude, it, it, it, it
- 45:01literally is Dash. But yeah, kiss the darkest part
- 45:05of my ass, right? You know, right.
- 45:07But I mean, it's this. Sure, there's those ones too.
- 45:09Right, there's those, but man, I just lost what I was going to
- 45:12say. You're in.
- 45:16But the like what you said about your dad, man, it's always like,
- 45:20you know, I can choose how I want to, how I want to feel
- 45:24about this right now. You know, it's real easy to get
- 45:27on that cycle of being upset with somebody because they don't
- 45:30share the same viewpoint. Even if they're even in your
- 45:33viewpoint, they may be wrong. But then again, it's their
- 45:36viewpoint. It's not necessarily wrong.
- 45:38It's just their viewpoint. It can't be changed.
- 45:41The perception from the education and knowledge that
- 45:44they allow and. But it's, it's like the Mormons
- 45:48that you grew up with, the Mormons I grew up with, all I
- 45:50knew about them were they judged people constantly.
- 45:54And if you didn't live the lifestyle that they did, you
- 45:57weren't allowed to play with their children because their
- 45:59children could enhance their negativity.
- 46:02But then when they turned 19 at the time, you could go out and
- 46:06talk to non members to join, but you would only hang with them.
- 46:09They would only be their friend if they did that.
- 46:12It was like when I was in church just a little while ago, they
- 46:15were talking about, you know, we've got X amount of kids that
- 46:18aren't coming to this class Priest Corn, You know, we got to
- 46:21change this. We got to do something about it.
- 46:23And the other guy goes, well, what do you think guys we should
- 46:25do? And then he had all these
- 46:26cookies there that he brought for the boys and he goes bring
- 46:29up cookies. And I was really annoyed and I
- 46:31just. Always done.
- 46:33And I look at this kid, Aaron, and he's just kind of looking
- 46:35down. I said, hey, Aaron, would that
- 46:36do it for you? And he goes, what would that do
- 46:39it for you? I don't understand the question.
- 46:42If I brought you a cookie, would you think I care about you?
- 46:44And he goes, no, what would you think?
- 46:47I think it was pretty lame. And I'm like, cool.
- 46:50And I looked at the other guys. I'm like, is that what you
- 46:51don't? Is that how you feel?
- 46:53And the other kids like, yeah, I think it's pretty lame.
- 46:55I think it's shallow. And I'm like, cool, So you got
- 46:57some good thought here. And I said, let me ask you this
- 46:59question. What is the true meaning of
- 47:01brother? And they just sat there and I'm
- 47:04like, I'll wait. And this kid goes, well, that's
- 47:05actually pretty deep. Like why is it deep?
- 47:07Well, what do you mean by that? And I said, you know what a
- 47:09brother is? A brother is going to check in
- 47:12on you. They're going to care about you.
- 47:15They're going to look for ways that they can help you in any
- 47:17moment opportunity they can just because you're your family.
- 47:21And I said family doesn't come because you were born into one
- 47:24family is what you make of that's you.
- 47:27You can call it a tribe. I like to just call it the
- 47:30family because your family can be so big and so vast where that
- 47:34love is shared between everybody else, I said.
- 47:36So let me ask you, do you love these people?
- 47:39And if you don't, why don't you? Is it so finite that you can
- 47:44only give it to a few? Then I ask you right now, why
- 47:48are you even thinking I'm going on an LDS mission?
- 47:50If you don't love others, are you doing it because others are
- 47:53asking you what's expected of you?
- 47:56Or are you doing it because you truly want to serve?
- 47:58And if you answer in a way where you kind of wince, you're a
- 48:02liar. You are not my brother's keeper.
- 48:04To yourself. Yep.
- 48:06Yeah. And, dude, the Bishop.
- 48:08The Bishop's like looking at me like this.
- 48:10Like what? The fuck?
- 48:11But it's true. They've been doing cookies since
- 48:14I was young there. And it was like, oh, hey,
- 48:16there's this person, they're not active.
- 48:18Make them cookies. And it's it's exactly like you
- 48:21said. Well if it's your brother and
- 48:22I'm all thinking if it's someone I cared about this, they would
- 48:26already know. I would have this close
- 48:28conversation and a relationship with them.
- 48:30I would know why they're not coming to this class every week.
- 48:33Probably because they don't give a shit and if I gave a shit
- 48:36about them, I wouldn't be trying to get them to come to the
- 48:38class. I'd try and just be friends and
- 48:40show them my care and that I'm there for them through all the
- 48:43shit they're actually going through.
- 48:44Because that's what they need is the community, the family.
- 48:48Finn was talking about moving here and that's been one of his
- 48:50things was like, hey, I haven't been in real school in all of my
- 48:54high school. I'm kind of scared.
- 48:57What if no one likes me? And his boyfriend broke up with
- 49:00him and it was his first love ever and it was 2 years of this
- 49:05fucked hard that he dated and all of a sudden he's just like
- 49:10well maybe I'm just maybe my intent is to be alone.
- 49:13Maybe there isn't someone for me.
- 49:15And I'm like that's sad. No, like I'm sorry that you
- 49:20haven't lived with me or and I haven't shown you what it feels
- 49:24like to even have your father's love then, because that's on me
- 49:28that I haven't shown you that. That's a good point.
- 49:31Because if you don't understand what it's like to feel loved
- 49:34even from that, then that's like, I, I can't control their
- 49:38mom. That's not me, but me and my
- 49:41actions. And that they didn't feel that
- 49:44enough to feel like, hey, I'm worthy of love.
- 49:47And they've gone through a lot of shit in their life.
- 49:50But whatever, all these things. And it was like, no, let me help
- 49:53you find friends. And I was like, well, not
- 49:57friends, like a community. And I was like, well, it's not,
- 50:00it's not a community. It's like, it's, it's family.
- 50:03And that's what it is. All of us are just looking for
- 50:07our family truly are not like our blood that we're married
- 50:11into our kids or whatever. But the people that we that we
- 50:15love, that we care about, that care about us, that want to help
- 50:19see us succeed, that we want to see every like family.
- 50:23Yeah. Everyone's searching for that.
- 50:25And it's they're finding, trying to find it in religion or
- 50:29community groups or wherever. And I'm like, I had that
- 50:32realization of like, that's really all it is that all of us
- 50:35are searching for is just that family, that feeling of like the
- 50:38Hallmark movie that you saw growing up where everyone was
- 50:41happy and they felt loved and, and the kids saw like their dad
- 50:45just was like, Oh, I fucking love you.
- 50:47And they gave him a big hug and that kid felt supported and like
- 50:50everything. And we're like, man, how would
- 50:52that? Because the little kid inside of
- 50:54all of us that's like broken and fucked up is like wanting that
- 50:58our whole life. And just, you know, we all live
- 51:02in the lives that we live and have the families and that that
- 51:04we do. But then we all grow up hunting
- 51:07and searching for this, this family that just feels like
- 51:11that, that feels supportive and is always there and wants what's
- 51:13best for you and always just like checking in on you and just
- 51:17wanting to see you grow and be that.
- 51:20But like, not from this constant what we've known, which is so
- 51:25much of imperfection, which is human.
- 51:29Now you're you're bringing up something that's actually got me
- 51:31reflecting on recently. I've had a lot of like
- 51:33interactions with my oldest son. He's 19 now, and, you know, I
- 51:39start putting on expectations of him.
- 51:40I grew up like I find it, the differences between we.
- 51:44We grew up with similar fathers. Yeah.
- 51:47And fathers that grew up in the old world, fathers that believe
- 51:50that what defined your value was the work that you put in, not
- 51:53who you are and what you contribute to society.
- 51:56It's just. Quick to discipline with the
- 51:57hand. 100% real quick to discipline with the hand do as I
- 52:01say, not do as I do. And you know, later on he
- 52:04changed and that's totally fine. I'm, I don't, we used to be
- 52:08upset with that, but at this time, like I got really upset
- 52:11with my son because it, it's sometimes you're allowing the
- 52:15ability to be angry about something really should just be
- 52:19talked about with the person. Like, hey, look, I'm feeling
- 52:21like this and this is my viewpoint and I want to talk to
- 52:25you about it because I, I don't want to feel like this.
- 52:27And, and I was so upset with my son and I didn't know why.
- 52:31And you know, we got into a tussle.
- 52:34No one got hurt, but we got to the ground.
- 52:37And you know, the thing that I knew that my family loves each
- 52:40other so much was right at that moment there was no hesitation.
- 52:44My my daughter grabbed my youngest and protected him and
- 52:49my boys and my wife. All jumped in.
- 52:53Were jumping in and hitting me because they thought I was
- 52:55trying to hurt back. So I'm like, hey, he's got me.
- 52:58He's got me grabbed. I'm like just I'm protecting
- 53:00myself right now. I'm not, I'm not fighting him.
- 53:02I said get his art because he had to.
- 53:04He had me grabbed in there. But I was angry.
- 53:06I, I, I provoked him to that point.
- 53:09And a lot of it is because I started to think about, you
- 53:11know, when I was 19, you know what I was doing?
- 53:13I was in the fucking Navy. I celebrated my 19th birthday
- 53:18when I was in boot. Camp Are you worried Max is
- 53:20going to be like you? No.
- 53:23Yes. In my failures in life, it took
- 53:26me a really long time to have any purpose and to know that
- 53:31what I do does not define me, but it's what I do for others
- 53:35that does. And that's it.
- 53:38That's all. I want to be remembered.
- 53:39I don't want to be remembered from even if I say we grew
- 53:43cannabis tech company, but say we did something like that,
- 53:47right, and we made millions of dollars, I would not want to be
- 53:50known as a millionaire. I would be not known as
- 53:53extremely generous, helping out the community, you know, really
- 53:57being able to focus on making sure that people got a healthy
- 54:02handshake. Not because I have so much
- 54:05wealth, it's because I do have so much wealth that I can do
- 54:08that. And that's when you start doing
- 54:10that. Other people start to join that.
- 54:13When we teach that it's all about me, then all we have are
- 54:17these giant mansions with one person living in it, really
- 54:20fucking lonely. And they're like, well, I could
- 54:23get this in an apartment. We put so much value on on what
- 54:28we can put. It's even then it it doesn't
- 54:30make logical sense. It's vanity is complete mental
- 54:34illness is what it is. Vanity is mental illness.
- 54:36When you start to judge people like Jordan called me just last
- 54:40night. He had to, they had to admit his
- 54:42wife into the hospital, into mental health care ward.
- 54:45She's had this long bout of insomnia that she snapped five
- 54:49days, no sleep. And so he called me and he just
- 54:52wanted to vent. And I just let him vent.
- 54:55Jordan, if you met Jordan, you'd be like, yeah, that guy totally
- 54:59doesn't look like somebody you would want to go hang out with
- 55:01just because if you wanted to judge him with your eyes.
- 55:04But I saw past that. I saw past that because there's
- 55:08nothing to look past. He's just another person,
- 55:11another another traveler on this flying rock, right?
- 55:15Just another space. Traveler yeah, it's going the
- 55:17same way and it's like. And what happens when I help
- 55:20him? Things start to work out for me,
- 55:22not because I'm blessed by God, but because of that force of
- 55:26which God, I believe gave us was to be able to know that if you
- 55:30help each other, you're going to feel my love.
- 55:33You'll know that I exist. So everything is vibration
- 55:38frequency and. There's things about that that
- 55:41we don't understand, and I totally believe that in
- 55:43vibration frequency. So if you are in that positive
- 55:46frequency and positive state, you're more likely going to
- 55:50vibrate and resonate with more. And that glow grows bigger and
- 55:53bigger. And it's it's what Christians
- 55:55tend to chase when they look at their accomplishments within
- 55:59this fictitious church. Yeah, right.
- 56:02I do these things. Plus I'm I'm guaranteed these
- 56:04things. These boxes.
- 56:06But yet it's like the asshole on the golf course.
- 56:08It says oh, that's why I pay. 12.
- 56:09Percent. I pay 12%.
- 56:11But how many of your brothers do you know?
- 56:15How many of your brothers are you there for?
- 56:17How many of your brothers could call you in the middle of the
- 56:19night or when something's wrong? Go hey, I need you.
- 56:22Yeah, and the tell. And we would drop it and go, oh,
- 56:25OK, here. How many of those brothers do we
- 56:28do that for? And it's like, most of it is
- 56:30just checking the boxes for most of these people.
- 56:34And I think it's sad because everyone there is.
- 56:37It's that purpose of community and brotherhood that it's
- 56:40everyone wants, but they've missed so much in it.
- 56:43And it's like. Well, my theory on that with the
- 56:45connection, especially this, like, I have a friend at work,
- 56:48name is Amanda. I think she's an awesome person.
- 56:51She's one of my favorite people I get to see throughout the
- 56:54week. She's just cool.
- 56:55Not once if I thought that I want to fuck her.
- 56:57Right. But the modern thesis is that
- 57:01men only want to be friends with women to fuck them.
- 57:04Yeah. And that's not.
- 57:05True. Or that you can't be friends
- 57:07with someone of the opposite gender because it's going to be
- 57:11unacceptable or whatever if you're married or in a
- 57:14relationship. And it's, you know, my the ward
- 57:17growing up, there was a lady who was like, oh, I turned down a
- 57:21ride in the rain from one of the guys in our ward from two blocks
- 57:25away from my house because I didn't want to be alone with
- 57:28another like a another married man.
- 57:31Like all you're showing is you don't have self-control or trust
- 57:33yourself. Or you don't trust your.
- 57:35Brothers, your your family that you're here with you don't even
- 57:39trust. So it's this weird concept of
- 57:41like, we're family, but. Not fucking.
- 57:44Touch me, come near me, and I don't want to know about you so.
- 57:47If you need something, just run into me in the hallway and if
- 57:50you can guilt me in front of enough people, I'll come help.
- 57:53I'll. Be there and I'll resent you the
- 57:54whole time while I'm there and. Yeah, it's a difference between
- 57:58like in the Mormon Trudeau, like an Elders corn president.
- 58:00And you'll know if the guy really cares about serving other
- 58:03people because you can text him at any time and he'll respond
- 58:06immediately or he'll be at your house or you'll get one like an
- 58:09hour later going. I don't think anybody's going to
- 58:11want to respond around this time, and you really need their
- 58:14help. So it's like, you know, that's
- 58:16why community is so hard to be able to build that because we've
- 58:20built these walls between us because of the fear of
- 58:23perception. It is fear.
- 58:25There was a show I was watching with Finn and it made me really
- 58:28think because it had this mom and dad went out on a date and
- 58:32left their kids at home and they're like, this is fine.
- 58:35You shouldn't have any issues. And they're like 10 minutes down
- 58:38the road and fire truck passes them and they're like, no, no,
- 58:41that's fine. It's fine.
- 58:42It's it's going to be going somewhere.
- 58:44It's going somewhere. It's totally fine.
- 58:45And then they're like, no, fuck, we we should turn around.
- 58:48So they turn around and go back. It's their house.
- 58:51The house is on fire, like the kitchen.
- 58:54And they're like, how in the hell did you do this?
- 58:56And they're like, well, we put something in the oven, but it
- 59:01looked like it was, oh, pizza. And they didn't take it out of
- 59:05the plastic and the plastic was on fire.
- 59:08And they were like, well, why didn't you use the fire
- 59:10extinguisher? And he's like, I did.
- 59:12And it shows him. And he just tosses the fire
- 59:13extinguisher in the oven. And he was like, go ahead, do
- 59:17your thing now. And then it explodes.
- 59:19And they're like, why didn't you go?
- 59:21Go to the neighbors? And they're like, 'cause you
- 59:23told us not to talk to strangers.
- 59:25And I'm like, what world is it that we have made where it's
- 59:28like, don't talk to strangers. And we're not friends with our
- 59:31neighbors. We're not we don't have this
- 59:33sense of community anymore. We don't have that real
- 59:37friendship that I'm like, OK, so our our kids, what happens then
- 59:40when don't talk to strangers? OK, well, there's an emergency.
- 59:43What do you do? We'll call, call, call your
- 59:45grandma, call this. Well, they don't look here.
- 59:47They're not at home. Call 9.
- 59:49Like there's no go to your neighbors, go next door and talk
- 59:53to Tommy. Go, go knock on Sarah's house or
- 59:55Jim's house or any of these people.
- 59:57They'll answer because growing up it was like, OK, yeah,
- 1:00:00there's the alarm. It'll go off.
- 1:00:02You can call 911. But you can run to the Strong's
- 1:00:04house, the Lee's house. You can run to any of these
- 1:00:06homes, knock on their door. Like we knew all of them.
- 1:00:11We did like. Yeah, but I don't know my
- 1:00:12neighbors now. No, I don't either.
- 1:00:14I don't have a close relationship.
- 1:00:17That's funny. And I'm like.
- 1:00:18But do the kids feel safe that it's like, oh, they if there was
- 1:00:21an emergency, they'd go to the neighbor's house and go, hey,
- 1:00:24can I use this? Can I do this?
- 1:00:25This is going on. Can you come help?
- 1:00:27How many of our kids would even do that?
- 1:00:29Yeah, no, like it and. Mine wouldn't.
- 1:00:33Well, no. And it's super funny, right?
- 1:00:35I mean we we talk about that like we've taught to be self
- 1:00:39inclusive. Independent.
- 1:00:41Yeah, it completely. Do not worry about the other
- 1:00:43people, only worry about yourself because only you are
- 1:00:46going to get to where you need to be.
- 1:00:47What is that fictitious world? If you don't have a degree then
- 1:00:51you can't get there. Tell that to the millions of
- 1:00:53people that just graduated college.
- 1:00:55They can't find a fucking. Job or the millions of people
- 1:00:58who have graduated and they're making $1012.00 an hour.
- 1:01:02And what do they do? They go back and get more
- 1:01:04student loans because they can continue to get education and
- 1:01:07money to live off of until they can finally get that job to pay
- 1:01:10off their hundreds of thousands. Level of education will help.
- 1:01:14And it's debt that just stays dude, it'll chase you to the
- 1:01:17grave. It's so weird where you're
- 1:01:20willing to sacrifice for so long for no reliability.
- 1:01:24Other than what? Well, that that's why I was
- 1:01:28talking. My kids mom is very adamant that
- 1:01:30they need to go to college, not for anything in particular, but
- 1:01:33that they need to and that anything they want to do is not
- 1:01:37a real job, that they cannot make any sort of real living on
- 1:01:40it. And I'm like, you know, what
- 1:01:42sucks is every job and career that you guys want to do that
- 1:01:47your mom says no one can make a real living on.
- 1:01:50I personally know people making seven figures a year doing all
- 1:01:53of those things. So you can go to college and get
- 1:01:57a degree and go to something that they don't want to do.
- 1:02:00None of those jobs or careers, they're like, that sounds like
- 1:02:03fun. That would bring me value or,
- 1:02:05and purpose or enjoyment through any part of my life.
- 1:02:08Like how many of us are pushing our kids to do something and
- 1:02:11they're like, Hey, I'm this isn't going to really value me
- 1:02:14in my life. It's not going to bring me the
- 1:02:16value that it did in your life. Like.
- 1:02:19And it, I don't know, it sucks, but I know we do it a lot in our
- 1:02:23lives of just. I'm sure our parents said it
- 1:02:25too. Yeah.
- 1:02:26I don't want you to see. Yeah, I don't want you to make
- 1:02:28me stay excited. Let me learn and.
- 1:02:30And that's where like, I'm, I'm trying to push my son because
- 1:02:33even after that, like, you know, if for him it's, you know, I'm
- 1:02:36holding him to an unrealistic standard, what I'm doing.
- 1:02:40And, and I'm, I'm not as forceful as my parents were, but
- 1:02:45I am grateful for that. Because if not for that, then
- 1:02:49what I would have ended up with probably 2 marriages, a bunch of
- 1:02:55kids that are over there paying child support and doing a job,
- 1:02:59which now makes a lot of fucking money.
- 1:03:01But back then did made, you know, I mean people who work
- 1:03:05with their hands. And that's the thing, like if
- 1:03:07you find it, it's not taking pride in what you do, it's
- 1:03:11enjoying what you do because you're doing something of
- 1:03:14service for others where it provides some type of good.
- 1:03:18Regardless if you're, if you're a person who's a truck driver
- 1:03:20who delivers fruit, do you know how many people are fucking
- 1:03:22happy to see you? Oh my gosh, milk all that shit.
- 1:03:25And how many people that you actually bring value to because
- 1:03:28it's not just them, It's everyone at the grocery store
- 1:03:30going, how many times do you bite into a piece of fruit and
- 1:03:33you're like, oh, my gosh, this is amazing.
- 1:03:34This is just what I want. Especially when you're slightly
- 1:03:37high. Yeah.
- 1:03:38Exactly right. It's it 100%.
- 1:03:41So every job has value. Yeah.
- 1:03:43Even if you're working at McDonald's, because what you're
- 1:03:45doing is for that person who chooses at that moment whether
- 1:03:48they're addicted to it or whether it was a convenient
- 1:03:50thing because they have been up for three days and just got out
- 1:03:53of the hospital. Yeah.
- 1:03:54You make you. You perform magic for them.
- 1:03:57I go from one speaker to a door and they give me food.
- 1:04:01This is pretty amazing. I mean, we get high and talking
- 1:04:05to a mic and you sit at home or in your car or.
- 1:04:08Or eating food. And hopefully a little bit high
- 1:04:12too, listening magically through these things in your ears.
- 1:04:15So. Yeah, it's it's super cool,
- 1:04:18right? You think about everything that
- 1:04:19you have around you and how awesome it is.
- 1:04:21And this isn't just a place of hi, this is where I like to live
- 1:04:24because, you know, I find that when I have that momentum, it
- 1:04:28becomes contagious. And when that's the greatest
- 1:04:31thing that I think about, man, is that my currency that I love
- 1:04:35is that, you know, connecting with other people and, and
- 1:04:39making that like that's a passion of mine, helping other
- 1:04:41people connect because it it won.
- 1:04:44It's it's extremely rewarding in its own sense, because you're
- 1:04:49helping someone to see past that filter that has been built up.
- 1:04:53Life is. Lonely it can be.
- 1:04:54Everyone wants to connect. There's always a moment, I
- 1:04:57think, in everyone's life. 100%. Where they feel lonely even
- 1:05:01sometimes when they're surrounded by people.
- 1:05:03Oh, 100%. It's like young men who trying
- 1:05:05to talk to women like, dude, it's a it's an epidemic now.
- 1:05:09It's an epidemic. And I have lived comfortably in
- 1:05:11marriage for over 20 years. And I'll tell you what, like it
- 1:05:15hasn't felt hard. It hasn't felt rough.
- 1:05:18We've had our spots, but we're still here and it's awesome.
- 1:05:22And it's not because I have to be there.
- 1:05:24It's because I enjoy being there.
- 1:05:26I would never sacrifice that. You know, some of the people
- 1:05:29that are like, oh, dude, are your wife OK with you having a
- 1:05:31friend who's a female? Like, yeah, she is.
- 1:05:34She'd mean, you know, there's a part of her going, is she
- 1:05:37prettier than me? Because I would be that way.
- 1:05:39Like, is that guy handsome? It's that nervousness in the
- 1:05:42back of your head of like, oh, what if this?
- 1:05:43And it's like, but why? But why?
- 1:05:46I trust. Yeah.
- 1:05:47I have trust, yeah. I don't have to worry about
- 1:05:50that. And that's the thing that I'm,
- 1:05:52it's a much happier life. And it's really easy to measure
- 1:05:56if I'm doing those things because if I'm feeling shitty,
- 1:06:00it's usually because I'm not looking to connect with others.
- 1:06:03And when I keep myself from doing that, like that's the
- 1:06:06greatest gift I can give anybody else.
- 1:06:07It's not what I can make or do. And and that's where Craftsman
- 1:06:11are going to come back from. We're going to see a different
- 1:06:14evolution of Craftsman that are developing software or
- 1:06:19entertainment or anything like that, that is going to be more
- 1:06:22inclusive. It's going to be more of a
- 1:06:25hobby, not a lifestyle. Like there should be no reason
- 1:06:29why somebody makes millions of dollars playing video games and
- 1:06:32other people watching them. I think that is the dumbest
- 1:06:34thing in the world. And what is it?
- 1:06:36I mean, you're not even living vicariously like watching a
- 1:06:38football player or a basketball player or a martial arts movie.
- 1:06:42You know you don't even mean. Those anymore because they're
- 1:06:44like, oh, I can't be this good. I can't do this.
- 1:06:46So they're like, but look at them, they can.
- 1:06:48Yeah. Oh, I'll live through them.
- 1:06:50Much, much, much, much, much. It sucks.
- 1:06:53And so it's like, like what you said with your kin.
- 1:06:55They're like, you know, I love doing this.
- 1:06:58Well, you know what? If you love it enough and you
- 1:07:01can have that passion about it, somebody else is gonna find
- 1:07:03value in it. Not because of what they see,
- 1:07:06but it is the perceived. Value.
- 1:07:08Yeah. And it's art and a lot of those
- 1:07:11I'm like people have tons of people create art and tons of
- 1:07:15people. It's like they give up or don't
- 1:07:17put the effort in the time 'cause it's they've got someone
- 1:07:20else like your mom behind you going.
- 1:07:22That's not a real dream. You can't do that.
- 1:07:24That's not successful. Don't do that.
- 1:07:26Don't try that. Is that what Finn wants to do?
- 1:07:28Art. Finn would he was like, oh, I
- 1:07:31want to, I want to be an artist. I want to go into acting.
- 1:07:33I want to do all of that. But I can't do that, Mike.
- 1:07:37Well, you could. And you can do this on the side.
- 1:07:39And even as you build up that, there's all sorts of avenues
- 1:07:43that you can do and still do that as well, 'cause I'm like,
- 1:07:47you can do this and you can make this much a month and that would
- 1:07:49cover all of your other stuff. And we'll do that and you can do
- 1:07:52that. I have a friend I grew up with
- 1:07:54here. I mean, we still are close from
- 1:07:57as I've known him since I was 13 and, and we still talk to this
- 1:08:01day. And he, he's never had a real
- 1:08:05job. He never went to school.
- 1:08:07He worked at Apollo Burger in high school.
- 1:08:10That's it. He has been an artist since 19
- 1:08:14years old and that's what's paid.
- 1:08:17But he struggled. He struggled hard, but he's like
- 1:08:20that's part of it. But now like you could go cut
- 1:08:23him going. Where does he live?
- 1:08:25Oh, he still lives in his parents home that he paid off.
- 1:08:27He wiped out all their debt. He they never need or want
- 1:08:31anything. You know what he does all the
- 1:08:33time? Isolates and paints.
- 1:08:35He cannot be disturbed. And so, you know, if Finn ever
- 1:08:38wanted to talk to somebody, like who does that, yeah, I'll put
- 1:08:42her on the phone with him. Yeah, well, that's I was like, I
- 1:08:44have another friend and all he does is art.
- 1:08:46That's it, and that's his career.
- 1:08:48Yeah, I'll put him on the phone. I.
- 1:08:49People do these things all the time, but they pour themselves
- 1:08:53into it. It's not like, oh, this is, it's
- 1:08:56like, no, I love this. This is my soul.
- 1:08:59I create. And Finn's always been an
- 1:09:01artist. And so I'm like, if that's what
- 1:09:03you want to do, I will help you. If that's like, instead of go to
- 1:09:08college, you need to do this and you need to go here and you need
- 1:09:10to get a degree doing this. And I actually would prefer you
- 1:09:13to go to this college because I like this college.
- 1:09:15And it's like, no, you can plan. Colleges scam.
- 1:09:19If you choose that you want to do an art class or do something
- 1:09:22fucking great, do it. If you choose that college is
- 1:09:25what you want to do because you find that for you, there's value
- 1:09:28in it, that's great too. But don't go into it expecting
- 1:09:33that you're needing to get this value.
- 1:09:34We're going to have to get this job or do this because that
- 1:09:37doesn't necessarily bring you value.
- 1:09:39And Alec just got job over at this new company just doing
- 1:09:44account, account executive. He starts at 280 plus
- 1:09:48commissions and I'm like, and he's just been in sales.
- 1:09:50You don't need a degree for that, ever.
- 1:09:53Yeah, but he ever wanted it sucks because he got a degree.
- 1:09:56Yeah, in information system in IS information technology.
- 1:10:01Oh, I, I was in school for IS, he was in school for IT.
- 1:10:04That's originally when I went to College in poor major.
- 1:10:07That's what his major was. He's.
- 1:10:10Not used that he's been in account management and sales.
- 1:10:14And then your other brother has a degree in engineering.
- 1:10:16Engineering and he's been in tech at night and now he's a
- 1:10:21data analyst for a healthcare company.
- 1:10:23None of those require their degrees at all.
- 1:10:27And my engineer brother was like, yeah, I could go work at
- 1:10:31an engineering firm and start at the bottom because like most
- 1:10:35people know, you need skill. And you don't come out of
- 1:10:38college with the skills needed, you come out with an education.
- 1:10:42Which is sad because he spent all that time learning something
- 1:10:45that he had no desire for. Well, he was like, it could have
- 1:10:48been fun and I would have done it maybe.
- 1:10:49But where I'm at now where I make this much and his wife and
- 1:10:53him are big spenders and that it was like I can't go to making
- 1:10:57this much and try and stack my way back up.
- 1:11:00Which just goes to say, I mean, it's just like, well, you had no
- 1:11:03passion to begin with. It like it sounded cool, but
- 1:11:06more likely it sounded cool because of the money you make.
- 1:11:08Like the only jobs that I look at that require a lot of
- 1:11:12education is a job that requires you to constantly be learning.
- 1:11:16So pharmacists, doctors, lawyers account.
- 1:11:20Engineers like architects, things that maybe you have to do
- 1:11:24because there's lots of fucking stuff.
- 1:11:26But. But it can't be like, you know,
- 1:11:27you things don't. No, they don't.
- 1:11:29And a lot of the degrees that come out of there are
- 1:11:31meaningless. Because most of our jobs now are
- 1:11:35pointless. Yeah, a lot of them are.
- 1:11:37That's what I was talking about with Finn, and that too is like,
- 1:11:40you know, going to college isn't the same now because a lot of
- 1:11:43our jobs aren't purposeful. Dude.
- 1:11:45They're really pointless jobs and if you something happens and
- 1:11:49AI and robots do 90% of this shit, 99% of the jobs are
- 1:11:54irrelevant. They're not.
- 1:11:55Here's it's useless. Here's an interesting fact so
- 1:11:58that they there's a woman really, I mean she's she turns
- 1:12:02around companies to be more profitable.
- 1:12:04She came to speak at this event up in Salt Lake and she was
- 1:12:08awesome. She's worked with Disney, she's
- 1:12:10worked with all these huge brands, a lot of clothing brands
- 1:12:14and she has like measurable results.
- 1:12:15This woman's all about results, measured results.
- 1:12:18I was like, OK, cool. This is like not just like if
- 1:12:22you think positive things will happen for you, you know, or, or
- 1:12:26Gary Vaynerchuk, well, stop being so fucking lazy, right?
- 1:12:29It's just like it it she just said whatever is measured will
- 1:12:33show that it actually can work. And the one thing that she
- 1:12:37pointed out with this fact, she goes, right now, the job
- 1:12:40statistics show that there is a huge polarity flip happening
- 1:12:45right now where youth are not able to find jobs.
- 1:12:48Guess which companies are looking for people in their 40s
- 1:12:52and up because they know how to deal with constant change and
- 1:12:57adapt fast and they grew up with technology, so they understand
- 1:13:02it. They are people in their 40s
- 1:13:05actually can utilize ChatGPT or any type of AI far better than
- 1:13:11any youth. And so now the degrees aren't
- 1:13:14sunset with that they go what have you done with skills of
- 1:13:17working with people? How do you understand that?
- 1:13:20How do you leverage AI to be a part of you?
- 1:13:22Now they're seeing that, which is really cool to see it some
- 1:13:25companies that are like it's the job of apocalypse for really
- 1:13:29meaningless jobs. Yes, it it's just a, you know,
- 1:13:32even your brother being a data analyst.
- 1:13:34How long is that going to last? Right?
- 1:13:36But it's going to be like the jobs that are more about
- 1:13:40connecting because they're looking to stand in.
- 1:13:42Front like sales stuff that you might need relationship. 100%.
- 1:13:47And like managing of AI and software and stuff and then
- 1:13:52creativity. Yeah, 100%.
- 1:13:55You can't just be somebody who. And such as a clock.
- 1:13:57So where you, all of my kids want to do artist creativity
- 1:14:01stuff, I'm like, that is the perfect angle to go into.
- 1:14:03And if you lean into it and actually put your heart into it,
- 1:14:07there's way more in. There well, and there's also
- 1:14:09things like opportunities to get into the ground floor.
- 1:14:12You know, everybody thinks that, you know, you're well, not
- 1:14:13everybody. That's a assumption there.
- 1:14:15There may be a thought process in people's head where they go,
- 1:14:19well, I want to do this like, OK, cool, how much do you want
- 1:14:23to do this? It's like when people would
- 1:14:25train martial arts underneath me.
- 1:14:27I want to be an MMA fighter. OK, cool, let's start.
- 1:14:30Drilling. I want to be a vet, but at the
- 1:14:32end of the day, you don't really think about what does that
- 1:14:35day-to-day look like. Yeah, you're putting animals.
- 1:14:37That's your life. You're doing all of these things
- 1:14:39that maybe you didn't think about because you're a kid and
- 1:14:42you don't know, versus like, hey, you want to do this?
- 1:14:44I would love to get you in. Maybe let's get you shadowing.
- 1:14:47Let's get you a day where you can go in and see what the
- 1:14:50day-to-day of this actually looks like.
- 1:14:52Well, it's like my son wants to do HVAC, right?
- 1:14:55OK. And he's like, well, I want to
- 1:14:56go to Mountain Tech College, whatever it is.
- 1:15:00And I'm like, yeah, you could do that.
- 1:15:02Or you could go to one of these places, these HVAC places, and
- 1:15:06say, hey, I'd like to learn your business and become your
- 1:15:09salesperson. I'd like to go out there and
- 1:15:12sell this, right. So now you're talking to the
- 1:15:14customer and just saying, part of this is that I want to train
- 1:15:18to be a journeyman and doing this.
- 1:15:20So what if I sold for two to three days out of the week?
- 1:15:24And then the other ones I'm I'm shadowing you guys, learning the
- 1:15:27trade, all that stuff. My goal is to be more involved
- 1:15:31with it. If you imagine if somebody came
- 1:15:33in on the bottom floor with sales.
- 1:15:34You think about this because how many we pay to go learn a skill,
- 1:15:40we pay to go to college, we pay a lot of money to go learn.
- 1:15:44You have no skill. At the end of that, you come out
- 1:15:47still needing to learn the skill.
- 1:15:49When they're young and have all this fucking time and they don't
- 1:15:52need money. They could go and intern at a
- 1:15:56company and go, hey, I would love to volunteer my time
- 1:15:59because I want to work for you in six months or a year and I
- 1:16:02would love to just give some of my time.
- 1:16:05Yeah, I'll be here 2 days out of.
- 1:16:07The week to learn the skill and come out of that with a skill, a
- 1:16:12job and a career path. Dude, how, how am I OK that so
- 1:16:16that that triggered a memory of I remember when I got out of the
- 1:16:19Navy, I was all into fitness because my friend Brent really
- 1:16:22got me into fitness and it started to get me into
- 1:16:24bodybuilding and I I enjoyed the feeling.
- 1:16:26I enjoyed the progression. And so I was like, this is cool.
- 1:16:29Like when I was 20 years old, I was thinking, this is awesome,
- 1:16:32right? 21 I'm out of the Navy and I, I
- 1:16:36walked into a GNC said, hey, I love fitness, all these other
- 1:16:40things. What would you say of me coming
- 1:16:42here to work for free just to kind of learn a little bit more
- 1:16:46about this because I want to learn more about, you know,
- 1:16:48supplements and the way that actually affect the body and not
- 1:16:51just, you know, yeah, this makes you strong and buy the most
- 1:16:54expensive, high calorie dense protein shakes.
- 1:16:56We used to sell these giant bags and had like Lou Ferregno on it.
- 1:17:00But anyways, you know, he said no one's ever come in and done
- 1:17:04that before. I'm like, yeah, I do this.
- 1:17:06I read these magazines. I'm all into working out.
- 1:17:09This is a lifestyle for me right now.
- 1:17:11What would it take for me to come over here and just work
- 1:17:13with you guys? Like, I don't have to be paid
- 1:17:15anything. Just tell me what I got to wear.
- 1:17:17And he's like, no, you start on Monday.
- 1:17:19You want a job. And I'm like, yeah.
- 1:17:21And he goes. You start on Monday.
- 1:17:22Because no one comes in going hey, and if he I'm.
- 1:17:25Willing to do this? You probably even have an HVAC
- 1:17:28company guy in your ward. 100%. And it's like, go to them go,
- 1:17:33hey, I would love to just learn. Can I come in turn and just do
- 1:17:36that? And I bet that guy would give
- 1:17:38him a job 100% and then he'd learn the skill.
- 1:17:40He'd come out with a job and a career path through it, be able
- 1:17:44to scale, grow, learn all of that.
- 1:17:46And it's super easy now becomes a craft.
- 1:17:48Why don't we this thank you for this episode and the strain
- 1:17:52mixes, because I think that's what I'm going to tell my kids
- 1:17:54that is a much better career path because it's we talk about
- 1:17:58it all the time. You want to go learn how to do
- 1:18:00something, Go get a mentor, go talk to a business owner, learn
- 1:18:03this and go, hey, how did you do this?
- 1:18:05You learn from somebody else who already knows.
- 1:18:08Yeah, you're going to find a true mentor is somebody that
- 1:18:11others seek and not the other ones that are asking you to find
- 1:18:14them. Yep.
- 1:18:15Those I I tend to think of those as snake oil salesman.
- 1:18:19They they were. Masters are the ones just doing
- 1:18:22their craft out. Yeah, if somebody goes to speak
- 1:18:25just because you, you like their thought process, you may follow
- 1:18:29a couple things there. But you know, truly what I think
- 1:18:31about is what am I constantly learning and adapting to?
- 1:18:35What am I learning about myself and what am I learning about
- 1:18:38others? Because that's more impactful
- 1:18:40than just having theoretical ideas that may work, right?
- 1:18:44That's why the reliance upon a degree is so overwhelmingly just
- 1:18:49now retarded. Because you can't do anything
- 1:18:53with this. And now you feel even worse
- 1:18:56because now you've spent all this time, all this money and
- 1:19:00debt. And people are telling you you
- 1:19:02don't have the value that you thought you did.
- 1:19:04Dude, they're getting out of school with more debt than most
- 1:19:07people who grew up during the 50s and 60s and 70s died with.
- 1:19:12They died with almost no debt. Probably these guys are going to
- 1:19:15die with probably generational debt and that's the worst thing
- 1:19:20because they. That's.
- 1:19:22Insane. But you think about it, right?
- 1:19:23Like what is more important? And that's like, you know, where
- 1:19:27you know, and I think about it and even asking yourself like,
- 1:19:30what is the passion that makes you get up and go and do things
- 1:19:33right? It can't be money because money
- 1:19:36is only a perception of value. Tomorrow it could change.
- 1:19:39It could be crypto. And now all of your greenbacks
- 1:19:42mean nothing. So it's like, OK, what happens
- 1:19:44then? Well, we've always found a way
- 1:19:46to find value, but it's always around consumerism.
- 1:19:49If we find value in people, then crafts are going to come back.
- 1:19:52Art will be appreciated in a better way.
- 1:19:55And so it's, it's looking at that one, not what it, what's in
- 1:19:58it for me. How can we grow?
- 1:20:01Because when we flourish, like things just get more advanced
- 1:20:05and we go through smaller periods in our more comfort age.
- 1:20:08I I see not the technological age, it's the overly comfortable
- 1:20:12age 'cause it's got more. I mean dude, you can't trust the
- 1:20:16food that you microwave. Then nor should you, right?
- 1:20:19The art of cooking food, the art of talking to people is so
- 1:20:25foreign to many because they don't.
- 1:20:28I mean, dude, it's like that event I did.
- 1:20:30The number one thing of their fear was I don't know what to
- 1:20:33say. Whoa, really?
- 1:20:35That means they probably don't either.
- 1:20:37Yeah, so don't worry. And you're all afraid in this
- 1:20:39game, but you imagine you've trapped yourself like you know
- 1:20:42Sandy on SpongeBob, where you put that fishbowl on top of your
- 1:20:46head and all you are is trapped in your own vacuum of despair.
- 1:20:50Yeah, it's thoughts. And you just, it's easy to
- 1:20:52shatter it. Yeah.
- 1:20:54But we're we're trained to do that from a young age.
- 1:20:56And I think now, like our generations are, are starting to
- 1:21:00now, like kind of push them into a new direction, which is good.
- 1:21:03When I hear that youth are having a harder time finding
- 1:21:06jobs. Nobody is more like when you are
- 1:21:09put into a bad spot. Nobody's more creative in making
- 1:21:12money than a poor person who has nothing to lose.
- 1:21:15Yep. How many times have we made
- 1:21:17money out of nothing? With that guys, catch you next
- 1:21:20week.
