- 2:23Sean McAllister: And Dana, we are finally back together.
- 2:26Sean McAllister: We are for the first time since the middle of December.
- 2:30Sean McAllister: It feels like it's been two months.
- 2:33Dayna Roselli: It does.
- 2:34Dayna Roselli: Last time I saw you was December 16th.
- 2:37Dayna Roselli: And then we're recording uh in the first week of the new year.
- 2:41Dayna Roselli: It's actually January 4th right now, but I didn't see you until January 3rd.
- 2:45Dayna Roselli: So we went December 16th to January 3rd without seeing each other.
- 2:48Dayna Roselli: I think the longest time period since we formed our company and started our podcast in January of 2020.
- 2:55Sean McAllister: It's crazy.
- 2:56Dayna Roselli: Besides maybe COVID, but we did see each other on Zoom a lot.
- 2:59Dayna Roselli: So I still even feel like then we saw each other more.
- 3:02Dayna Roselli: Very true.
- 3:02Dayna Roselli: Um, but we should introduce ourselves because it is a new season.
- 3:06Dayna Roselli: And for people who don't know us, I'm Dana Roselli, Sean McAllister here as well.
- 3:10Dayna Roselli: We've been doing the Vegas Revealed podcast for three years now.
- 3:15Dayna Roselli: We've lived in Las Vegas, we've worked in broadcasting in Las Vegas for an extremely long time.
- 3:20Dayna Roselli: We are out and about, and we thank you for joining us.
- 3:24Sean McAllister: We do.
- 3:24Sean McAllister: The start of a new year and new appreciation for everyone who consistently tunes in, and we appreciate our uh new listeners as well.
- 3:34Sean McAllister: And you know, speaking about uh being out and about, Dana, um, this whole Christmas season has been super crazy.
- 3:43Sean McAllister: And especially since the last time I saw you, I feel like I've been bouncing all over everywhere.
- 3:48Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because you did a lot um in that period of time that I was, gosh, we have so much to talk about.
- 3:53Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 3:54Dayna Roselli: So let's just catch everyone up real quick.
- 3:55Dayna Roselli: I was stuck in that Southwest Airlines debacle.
- 3:58Dayna Roselli: I went home to see my family the week before Christmas, was going to fly back to Vegas on Christmas.
- 4:03Dayna Roselli: It got canceled.
- 4:04Dayna Roselli: They didn't rebook me for another week.
- 4:07Dayna Roselli: No airlines were available, or else they were$2,500 one way.
- 4:11Dayna Roselli: So it was a whole mess.
- 4:12Dayna Roselli: So I was gone for like two weeks.
- 4:15Dayna Roselli: Sean was here in Las Vegas, enjoying the mild temperature, a chill Christmas, putting in a new patio and hopping around town.
- 4:23Dayna Roselli: So, yes, what did you do while I was in cold, dark, and gray Rochester, New York for two weeks?
- 4:31Sean McAllister: I mean, you came back to a whole new world, didn't you?
- 4:33Sean McAllister: I did.
- 4:33Sean McAllister: It feels like it.
- 4:34Sean McAllister: Um, so we were busy.
- 4:36Sean McAllister: We uh went out to eat at a lot of uh great places.
- 4:40Sean McAllister: Uh we went to Scotch 80 Prime over at Palms for Christmas dinner, Christmas night, and it was busy.
- 4:46Sean McAllister: Um it was fun to see.
- 4:47Sean McAllister: Uh New Year's Eve dinner.
- 4:50Sean McAllister: We went to Twin Creeks Steakhouse, that's over at the Silverton, um, kind of south uh part of the Las Vegas Valley.
- 4:59Sean McAllister: Um we stopped by the Sandollar Lounge, which at the holiday time is known as the Miracle on Spring Mountain, just totally decked out in decorations.
- 5:09Sean McAllister: Drove through glittering lights up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which is I I believe it is the uh largest drive-thru light display in uh either the country or North America.
- 5:24Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 5:25Sean McAllister: So it's spectacular.
- 5:27Sean McAllister: We also went to eat over at uh Benny Hana over at the Westgate.
- 5:32Sean McAllister: And I had not been there in so long, and I forgot how much I liked it.
- 5:36Dayna Roselli: Yeah, now um the Westgate has some great restaurants in there, and it's funny because I have never been to Benny Hanna.
- 5:44Dayna Roselli: I walk by it a million times, and then when you said you went, I was like, I live right next door.
- 5:48Dayna Roselli: Like, how is it?
- 5:49Dayna Roselli: And you were like, it was really good.
- 5:51Sean McAllister: It's so good.
- 5:51Sean McAllister: First of all, I love like a hibachi meal.
- 5:55Sean McAllister: I love when the meal is prepared right in front of you.
- 5:57Sean McAllister: It just it tastes so good, and it's fun.
- 6:00Sean McAllister: The chefs are always entertaining.
- 6:02Sean McAllister: Yeah, and Benny Hana, uh, it was built specifically for that space over at the the Westgate, and it's just these towering ceilings.
- 6:12Sean McAllister: They have like cherry blossom trees everywhere.
- 6:16Sean McAllister: They uh they have the big, you know, the gate, the Japanese gate is uh in there that you walk through.
- 6:22Sean McAllister: A creek runs through it.
- 6:24Sean McAllister: It's a beautiful space, and the food is delicious too.
- 6:27Sean McAllister: So I highly recommend that for uh a great meal.
- 6:31Dayna Roselli: Okay, Benny Hana at the Westgate.
- 6:34Dayna Roselli: I need to go.
- 6:34Dayna Roselli: I could literally walk there and then walk it off and walk home.
- 6:38Sean McAllister: Love that.
- 6:39Sean McAllister: What I how about you?
- 6:41Sean McAllister: How was your Christmas?
- 6:43Sean McAllister: I know I know that No, it was great.
- 6:45Dayna Roselli: Listen, I had a wonderful Christmas uh with my parents.
- 6:48Dayna Roselli: Uh, my longtime friends still live in Rochester, New York.
- 6:52Dayna Roselli: Um, my best friend of over 30 years, Shelly, and her son uh is my godson.
- 6:58Dayna Roselli: So I got to see him and her kids and her husband and her parents, and we had a a great time.
- 7:05Dayna Roselli: Uh my parents and I had so much fun just like drinking and eating.
- 7:09Dayna Roselli: And my mom made, you know, Italian and um made different dinners all throughout the week.
- 7:15Dayna Roselli: Um, my dad, you know, he loves a little red wine after dinner, and then we all start telling old stories.
- 7:21Dayna Roselli: So it was a wonderful holiday season.
- 7:23Dayna Roselli: Watched a lot of TV, some Christmas movies, all that kind of thing.
- 7:27Dayna Roselli: Um, we exchanged presents.
- 7:28Dayna Roselli: Um, my mom always spoils my dad, my brother, me, and she always says, I don't have any grandchildren.
- 7:33Dayna Roselli: Let me do it.
- 7:34Dayna Roselli: So we we had some nice present opening time.
- 7:37Dayna Roselli: Um, but I did get stuck there another week.
- 7:39Dayna Roselli: And the problem was is like after being there a week, Rochester is not a booming city and it's cold.
- 7:45Dayna Roselli: So there's not much to do.
- 7:46Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 7:47Dayna Roselli: And I think coming from here, it was just so difficult because it's like, how many times can you walk around the mall?
- 7:52Dayna Roselli: I don't want to buy anything else.
- 7:53Dayna Roselli: I'm sick of shopping after the Christmas season.
- 7:55Dayna Roselli: Um, how many times can you go to Ulta Makeup in the plaza?
- 7:59Dayna Roselli: You know what I mean?
- 8:00Dayna Roselli: And like, and so um or go shopping at Wegmans.
- 8:03Dayna Roselli: At Wegmans, which, you know, it's always fun to go to Wegmans.
- 8:06Dayna Roselli: It's great.
- 8:06Dayna Roselli: You can't walk outside really, which I always enjoy doing when I'm visiting in the spring and summer and fall.
- 8:12Dayna Roselli: Um, so there just wasn't a lot to do.
- 8:14Dayna Roselli: And being from here and being so active in Las Vegas, it was a hard adjustment where I started to go a little nuts the last week, you know?
- 8:23Dayna Roselli: Like, okay, I can't even, I don't even watch that much TV to begin with, but like there's nothing.
- 8:29Dayna Roselli: I started watching Little House in the Prairie, okay, which I absolutely love.
- 8:33Sean McAllister: I mean wholesome family television right there.
- 8:36Dayna Roselli: But yeah.
- 8:37Dayna Roselli: And then I was like, oh my gosh, I've got to go back on Amazon Prime and watch the whole series again.
- 8:40Dayna Roselli: I used to have the VHS tapes, it was so great.
- 8:43Dayna Roselli: And I didn't realize what a little nasty girl that Nancy is that's Nellie's sister.
- 8:49Dayna Roselli: Really?
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because I watched the later episodes and I was used to the early on, and I was like, Nancy is a little conniver, there's always a little conniver, but there's so many lessons to be learned.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: And when Mr.
- 9:00Dayna Roselli: Edwards comes into the picture, there's always the music.
- 9:04Dayna Roselli: Don't, don't, don't.
- 9:05Dayna Roselli: Anyway, uh, that sums up my vacation.
- 9:09Sean McAllister: Well, did you get kind of a did you find a new appreciation for Las Vegas after spending this time there?
- 9:18Dayna Roselli: Thanks for leading to that.
- 9:19Dayna Roselli: So I got back and I saw you and I said, I first of all, have always loved Las Vegas.
- 9:24Dayna Roselli: I came in 2004 thinking I was going to be here for two years and and then ended up staying and have always loved it.
- 9:30Dayna Roselli: But I love it even more when I come back from something like that just because I think I couldn't live in Rochester, New York.
- 9:37Dayna Roselli: There's nothing to do.
- 9:39Dayna Roselli: When I was driving to get dinner at 5 p.m., it's like so dark because there aren't a a lot of lights on all the streets, you know, and you know, build it.
- 9:49Dayna Roselli: And I was like nervous.
- 9:50Dayna Roselli: And I'm like, I feel like I'm like alone driving in the and it's not even like that small of a city, but we're in the one of the suburbs.
- 9:57Dayna Roselli: But anyway, the weather, the calmness, everything in my routine.
- 10:03Dayna Roselli: I just have a routine, I have things that I like to do here, and I have a major appreciation of Las Vegas now that I'm back.
- 10:11Sean McAllister: Well, it's good to have you back.
- 10:12Dayna Roselli: Everyone should move here and live here.
- 10:14Dayna Roselli: I don't know why they don't.
- 10:17Dayna Roselli: It's great.
- 10:18Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 10:19Dayna Roselli: Well, we've got a lot to talk about.
- 10:20Dayna Roselli: Something we wanted to touch on uh was CES because that kicked up.
- 10:24Dayna Roselli: We're happy to see CES back, consumer electronic show.
- 10:27Dayna Roselli: Something you and I noticed this year was it seems a little bit more built up when you look at the parking lots as you drive by.
- 10:33Dayna Roselli: There's a lot of structures.
- 10:35Sean McAllister: Like, not even structures, these are full-on buildings that have been put up in the parking lot in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
- 10:46Sean McAllister: Now, in years past, I know like Gibson Guitars would have a big tent out front, one of those giant event tents.
- 10:55Sean McAllister: Yes.
- 10:56Sean McAllister: They would set that up and have a whole bunch of stuff out in front.
- 11:00Sean McAllister: And they weren't the only ones who would do that.
- 11:02Sean McAllister: There would be other, you know, spaces that would be built out.
- 11:06Sean McAllister: But we have never seen it before where entire buildings are going up.
- 11:12Sean McAllister: I mean, this is like the size of you know, an office building that's being put up in front of the convention center.
- 11:18Sean McAllister: And these are temporary buildings.
- 11:20Sean McAllister: I know.
- 11:21Sean McAllister: For example, Google is one of the biggest ones.
- 11:24Sean McAllister: Uh, when I was over near there for a meeting, somebody told me they poured an entire cement foundation down in the parking lot just to build this temporary building.
- 11:35Dayna Roselli: It's incredible what they do for this convention.
- 11:37Dayna Roselli: Unreal.
- 11:38Dayna Roselli: I mean, and it's like no other.
- 11:39Dayna Roselli: I mean, every year we always see, you know, media outlets from around the world covering CES and doing live talkbacks.
- 11:46Dayna Roselli: And now, you know, they've moved out into the parking lot and are building these structures, just a sign that it keeps growing and growing and growing.
- 11:53Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 11:53Sean McAllister: Which is great.
- 11:54Sean McAllister: Well, and across the street from the convention center is a Piero's Italian restaurant.
- 12:00Sean McAllister: Uh, there's kind of a a lot between Piero's and uh the road, kind of in back of the restaurant.
- 12:08Sean McAllister: That has even been rented out, and there's a building there now.
- 12:12Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 12:13Sean McAllister: And these are all just like event spaces, meeting spaces, display spaces.
- 12:18Sean McAllister: Like, my God.
- 12:20Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 12:20Dayna Roselli: And when you look at these things, you know, a lot of people um just arrive and they just think nothing of it, but we get to see the step by step over, you know, a two, three-week period of this happening.
- 12:31Dayna Roselli: So it's pretty incredible.
- 12:32Dayna Roselli: Hey, speaking of Piero's, if you park over at the Piero's parking lot, look on their big marquee, you'll see a video.
- 12:38Dayna Roselli: Sean and I put that together, and we drove by the other day and we thought they're running our video.
- 12:43Dayna Roselli: Um, they hired us to do uh a video for their uh celebration that they had this year.
- 12:48Dayna Roselli: So you'll see a video done by Sean and I, Insightful Media Company, on the marquee.
- 12:53Sean McAllister: And stop at Piero's and get some great food too.
- 12:56Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's very good.
- 12:57Dayna Roselli: Hey, listen, um, there's a lot coming up in 2023.
- 13:00Dayna Roselli: We wanted to run down a quick list.
- 13:02Dayna Roselli: I don't know if we can hit it all, but one of the things that really stuck out to us um is we've been seeing the MSG sphere really push that they are opening in 2023.
- 13:14Dayna Roselli: So that is on track.
- 13:15Dayna Roselli: They released a big picture and a video right at the start of the new year saying we're we're on track, we're opening in 2023.
- 13:24Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 13:25Dayna Roselli: The video we shared on our Twitter, and uh, when we were looking through some of the factoids, first of all, you'll be able to see what it's going to look like if you watch that video.
- 13:33Dayna Roselli: It's really cool.
- 13:34Dayna Roselli: Spectacular.
- 13:35Dayna Roselli: And it's going to be the largest spherical structure on earth.
- 13:40unknown: Jeez.
- 13:41Dayna Roselli: It holds 20,000 people, and it's going to have full 4D effects.
- 13:49Dayna Roselli: The entire outside is a screen for full-on branding.
- 13:53Dayna Roselli: I mean, this thing's gonna light up the whole area.
- 13:55Dayna Roselli: I d I don't know.
- 13:56Dayna Roselli: I just think it's gonna be the coolest thing, one of its uh kind that we're gonna have here in Las Vegas.
- 14:02Dayna Roselli: And I I can't even believe it's really happening.
- 14:04Sean McAllister: We've watched this, but I know, and we've talked in past episodes about all the the technology that's going to be packed into this building.
- 14:13Sean McAllister: Uh, and and that they really built it for the future.
- 14:16Sean McAllister: So they built it with the capacity to expand the technology that is, you know, displayed in there, the bandwidth of you know, internet, fiber optics, everything that uh it takes to to run the place, it it is going to be cool to see uh when it's uh up and running.
- 14:35Dayna Roselli: It looks incredible.
- 14:36Dayna Roselli: U2 is planning on performing in there in the fall of 2023.
- 14:40Dayna Roselli: So if everything stays on track, then that's when we can expect to see the sphere open.
- 14:46Dayna Roselli: Can't wait.
- 14:47Sean McAllister: I know.
- 14:48Sean McAllister: So when you think about it, so if it's the largest spherical structure on Earth, like you look at Earth, that's a big sphere, and the next biggest sphere is the sphere in Las Vegas.
- 15:00Dayna Roselli: I wonder what it'll look like from space, right?
- 15:02Sean McAllister: Oh, I wonder if we'll be able to see it.
- 15:04Dayna Roselli: I'm sure they'll do, you know, a little NASA picture or something.
- 15:07Dayna Roselli: It's gonna be incredible.
- 15:09Dayna Roselli: Um, stick with us.
- 15:10Dayna Roselli: We'll have as many updates as we can on the progress of that and any new developments that happen over the next uh, well, rest of the year, the next parts of 2023.
- 15:20Dayna Roselli: Um, a couple other things happening.
- 15:22Dayna Roselli: February 5th, we've got the NFL Pro Bowl games over at Allegiance Stadium.
- 15:26Dayna Roselli: We've got Garth Brooks kicking up his new residency at Caesars Coliseum on March 18th.
- 15:32Dayna Roselli: We've got the Penzel 400 coming March 6th, Big League weekend, March 4th, 5th.
- 15:37Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh, what else?
- 15:38Dayna Roselli: Taylor Swift will be at Allegiance Stadium, and then we got a bunch of residencies kicking up.
- 15:42Sean McAllister: Yeah, Maroon 5 will be starting their residency.
- 15:46Sean McAllister: Um, the B-52s will kick off a residency at the Venetian later in the spring.
- 15:52Sean McAllister: Um, Electric Daisy Carnival coming back.
- 15:56Sean McAllister: Uh, I mean, there is just so much coming up this year.
- 16:00Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and Durango uh Casino and Resort is also supposed to open in the fall of 2023.
- 16:06Dayna Roselli: Um, we've got the Pac-12 championship game also set to return to Allegiant Stadium, the one you went to.
- 16:13Dayna Roselli: We've got NASCAR coming back, Formula One, November 16th through the 18th.
- 16:18Dayna Roselli: The National Finals rode you'll be back next year.
- 16:20Dayna Roselli: So lots of exciting stuff.
- 16:22Sean McAllister: Um Yeah, including the Fountain Blue, the resort, kind of on more on the north end of uh Las Vegas Boulevard.
- 16:30Sean McAllister: They have announced that they have uh secured all the funds that are needed in order to open this year in 2023, which is something that a lot of us, there have been a lot of eyes waiting for this moment.
- 16:45Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 16:46Dayna Roselli: And every time we get close to it, it's like there's a delay, there's a delay.
- 16:50Dayna Roselli: So I feel like I feel confident this time.
- 16:52Dayna Roselli: I think it's gonna happen.
- 16:53Sean McAllister: I think so too.
- 16:54Sean McAllister: And it looks like it'll be gorgeous.
- 16:56Dayna Roselli: Yeah, you and I drove by today.
- 16:58Dayna Roselli: We drove down Elvis Presley Boulevard to get to Resorts World.
- 17:01Dayna Roselli: And like you mentioned, construction's in full swing.
- 17:04Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, it's it's on track and it looks massive.
- 17:07Dayna Roselli: When you get up right next to it, it looks massive.
- 17:10Sean McAllister: It's huge.
- 17:10Sean McAllister: Yeah, it really is.
- 17:12Dayna Roselli: I've been staring at that for 10 years as I've lived in a building nearby.
- 17:17Dayna Roselli: Um, my balcony faces that way, and a lot of people probably see my pictures on social media all the time, and it kind of always looks the same.
- 17:24Dayna Roselli: 75% complete.
- 17:27Dayna Roselli: But now I'm looking forward to see what it looks gonna look like when it's topped off.
- 17:32Dayna Roselli: All right.
- 17:32Dayna Roselli: Um, and people telling us it's gonna be spectacular.
- 17:36Sean McAllister: Yeah, and and a kind of a game changer, like an evolution in you know what to expect from Las Vegas resorts.
- 17:44Dayna Roselli: And you and I were at Resorts World today.
- 17:46Dayna Roselli: We went to the Randy's Donuts, which we're gonna talk about a little bit later in our tips.
- 17:51Dayna Roselli: But and even when we were in there, we were like, you know what, I just love Resorts World.
- 17:55Dayna Roselli: It's just, and so I just think that like, I don't know, you and I are on the same level.
- 17:58Dayna Roselli: We kind of like when new things open.
- 18:00Dayna Roselli: We like the openness and the bright color.
- 18:02Dayna Roselli: And so I've been looking forward to seeing the fountain blue, which is right across from Resorts World, because I have a feeling from some of the renderings we've seen that it looks, you know, there's like golds and blues and whites, it looks kind of open and cheery, like a little bit more, you know, cheery as well.
- 18:17Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it does.
- 18:18Dayna Roselli: Bright, bright, yeah, bright and cheery is what I'm looking for.
- 18:21Dayna Roselli: Yeah, so I'm looking forward to that.
- 18:22Dayna Roselli: It's gonna be nice and I think it's gonna be pretty glamorous, too.
- 18:25Sean McAllister: Well, something that uh casino owners are super happy about right now is the fact that a new all-time record in casino revenue was set in 2022.
- 18:41Sean McAllister: And of course, we're you know, just getting these numbers now that 2022 is uh just wrapped up.
- 18:47Sean McAllister: Nevada casinos won thirteen and a half billion dollars from gamblers in 2022.
- 18:57Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and like we still have to wait another month to probably get those December numbers in.
- 19:02Dayna Roselli: So that's not as of like November.
- 19:05Sean McAllister: Right.
- 19:05Dayna Roselli: So that's huge.
- 19:07Dayna Roselli: And we're talking about the entire state of Nevada, most of it comes from the southern Nevada in the Las Vegas area, but there's some, you know, casinos up there in Reno and other parts of the state, but that is a huge, huge win.
- 19:19Dayna Roselli: It's like what recession, right?
- 19:21Dayna Roselli: Question mark.
- 19:22Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 19:23Dayna Roselli: It doesn't seem like things are slowing down at all.
- 19:26Dayna Roselli: Um, and we had some record numbers, I think, um, in in the last few months, too, for gaming, and we're taking in tons of money.
- 19:33Dayna Roselli: People are gambling.
- 19:34Sean McAllister: They sure are.
- 19:35Sean McAllister: And once again, even more numbers to show that I mean, we've talked about this before, these reports that come out like, oh, people are slowing up on spending while they're in Las Vegas.
- 19:47Sean McAllister: Well, uh, they're spending their money in slot machines, that's for sure.
- 19:51Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 19:52Sean McAllister: Because casinos are making whatever money people are bringing with them.
- 19:55Dayna Roselli: Well, what's today?
- 19:56Dayna Roselli: January 4th.
- 19:57Dayna Roselli: We went to Resorts World at 10 a.m.
- 19:58Dayna Roselli: and it was packed.
- 20:00Sean McAllister: It was.
- 20:01Dayna Roselli: Wasn't that weird?
- 20:02Dayna Roselli: That was so weird.
- 20:03Dayna Roselli: But I think they have like uh, what is it?
- 20:05Dayna Roselli: The is it the um the the adult porn convention is in town awards.
- 20:10Dayna Roselli: Yeah, yeah, whatever that is.
- 20:12Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 20:12Dayna Roselli: That's Vegas for you, right?
- 20:14Dayna Roselli: Hey, uh something I did want to mention.
- 20:16Dayna Roselli: Um, just because we we always talk about openings, we we told you last week that Bad Out of Hell, uh, the musical um about using Meatloaf's music through the years at Paris closed on January 1.
- 20:29Dayna Roselli: But also uh we found out extravaganza is closing at well, Bally's slash horseshoe.
- 20:37Dayna Roselli: Um, that was a big show in the former Jubilee theater.
- 20:40Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 20:41Dayna Roselli: That really went on for it's been a few years now.
- 20:44Sean McAllister: It did.
- 20:45Sean McAllister: I think it opened in uh late 2020.
- 20:47Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 20:48Sean McAllister: Maybe so it's been it's been there for a couple years.
- 20:51Dayna Roselli: So they're shutting down January 7th, and then Legends in Concert at the Tropicana had its last show, December 30th, which was like the long, it's the longest running show on the strip, I believe.
- 21:01Dayna Roselli: It's been around forever.
- 21:02Dayna Roselli: Um, it seems like in an article that I read that they they left the trop, you know, they're always open to going somewhere else.
- 21:09Dayna Roselli: So it might just be they closed at the trop looking for a new home kind of deal.
- 21:13Dayna Roselli: So we'll see if Legends comes back.
- 21:15Dayna Roselli: You know, it's a Vegas classic.
- 21:17Dayna Roselli: Uh, I saw Frank Marino, uh the queen of Las Vegas, recently at a Nevada SPCA event um that we were at doing a meet and greet with foster families, and and Frank's enjoying some some time running around.
- 21:29Dayna Roselli: I don't know if he's in Hawaii, he was at Disney World, but he's enjoying some time off.
- 21:33Dayna Roselli: And and we'll see what Frank does when he comes back.
- 21:35Dayna Roselli: But he was hosting Legends in concert for a long time, especially uh recently over the last few years.
- 21:42Dayna Roselli: He's been a big part of the show over at the Tropicana.
- 21:45Sean McAllister: And one other thing that we did want to mention um, a lot of people have wondered what was going to happen with that plot of land kind of across from Mandalay Bay and Luxor, where the Route 91 Harvest Festival.
- 22:00Sean McAllister: Um always took place.
- 22:01Sean McAllister: There were other festivals that happened there too.
- 22:04Sean McAllister: But that was the site of the awful shooting that happened here uh a few years ago.
- 22:12Sean McAllister: And people have wondered, well, what's going to happen with that land?
- 22:16Sean McAllister: Well, MGM Resorts International put out uh a letter uh within the past couple weeks that that plot of land has been sold to uh a Native American tribe from North Dakota.
- 22:32Sean McAllister: So that property has now changed hands.
- 22:36Sean McAllister: We've not heard yet what kind of development, if any, is going to happen there.
- 22:42Sean McAllister: Um, but we did want to mention that that sale did take place.
- 22:46Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 22:46Dayna Roselli: And apparently they bought about 15 acres, but there is a designated two acres that there will eventually be a memorial for the victims and and anything related to October 1 that they're gonna have there.
- 23:04Dayna Roselli: They haven't decided what exactly that memorial will be, but we do know that the cell does not include that two acres in the area.
- 23:13Dayna Roselli: So there will be a designated spot.
- 23:15Dayna Roselli: So I was I was glad to hear that.
- 23:17Dayna Roselli: That's kind of been a topic that's gone on for well since 2017.
- 23:23Dayna Roselli: What to do with that site?
- 23:24Dayna Roselli: And do we want a constant reminder of the tragedy that happened?
- 23:29Dayna Roselli: Um, or do we want to move on and and well, not pretend that it didn't happen, but not walk by that area because we have a lot of tourism.
- 23:39Dayna Roselli: And so it's been a hot topic.
- 23:40Dayna Roselli: So I guess in the end, they sold off a 15 acres.
- 23:43Dayna Roselli: They're keeping two acres for a memorial, which is I I'm happy to hear that.
- 23:48Sean McAllister: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:49Sean McAllister: So that is uh just another item in the news from the Las Vegas strip.
- 23:55Sean McAllister: Uh, let's get to our tips.
- 24:01Dayna Roselli: All right, in our tips, we want to shout out the peppermill in Las Vegas.
- 24:06Dayna Roselli: A happy 50th Unreal.
- 24:09Dayna Roselli: It's been around for so long.
- 24:11Dayna Roselli: It is a classic diner and lounge that is like no other.
- 24:16Dayna Roselli: I am one of those people that when people come into town, I say we've got to go to the peppermill.
- 24:21Dayna Roselli: And they're like, well, what makes it?
- 24:22Dayna Roselli: It's a diner.
- 24:23Dayna Roselli: And I'm like, no, you just have to experience it, right?
- 24:26Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's neon lights.
- 24:27Dayna Roselli: There are like trees growing inside, you know, the light green and the hot pink decor and the the weight staff, and you know, they're what do you call it?
- 24:38Dayna Roselli: Like retro, I guess.
- 24:40Sean McAllister: Oh, very retro, but like original retro.
- 24:43Dayna Roselli: Yeah, original retro outfits.
- 24:44Dayna Roselli: It's got the counter.
- 24:46Dayna Roselli: It's a spectacular place.
- 24:48Dayna Roselli: And um, I am so happy that they're still open and they're going strong at 50 years.
- 24:52Dayna Roselli: You've been, right?
- 24:53Sean McAllister: Oh, I've absolutely been.
- 24:55Sean McAllister: Uh and you'll also recognize it.
- 24:58Sean McAllister: Um, there were some scenes in the movie Casino that were filmed inside the peppermill.
- 25:03Sean McAllister: So you'll totally recognize Sharon Stone sitting there.
- 25:08Sean McAllister: You can go and sit in her seat there too.
- 25:10Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 25:11Dayna Roselli: And when you go there, you'll always see an eclectic.
- 25:13Dayna Roselli: I mean, you'll see everything from drag queens to you know, police to uh Elvis to anybody, performers, regular people, tourists, locals in there.
- 25:27Dayna Roselli: It is a fun people watching place, too.
- 25:30Dayna Roselli: It is so um, when it comes to tips, we thought, okay, well, let's talk about some of our favorite things there, say favorite foods, tips through the years.
- 25:39Dayna Roselli: And and one of the big ones is that a lot of people don't know the peppermint is a diner in front, but in the back, there is a lounge, and there's a full bar and waitresses in long black dresses.
- 25:52Dayna Roselli: There is a fire pit, there are little TVs and booths.
- 25:56Dayna Roselli: It is like dark in there, it's the coolest thing, and that's open all the time, and it's completely separate from the actual diner part.
- 26:05Dayna Roselli: So you've got the diner, and then you have the lounge.
- 26:07Dayna Roselli: And if you didn't know it was there, you gotta go.
- 26:10Sean McAllister: The lounge really is cool, and the fire pit is my favorite part about it.
- 26:14Sean McAllister: Like it's so unique to have that, especially here in Las Vegas.
- 26:18Sean McAllister: Yeah, but it really is such a cool feature.
- 26:22Dayna Roselli: It is, and the drinks are so fun.
- 26:23Dayna Roselli: What is it, the scorpion?
- 26:25Dayna Roselli: You can like share with everyone.
- 26:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah, you get the I don't even know, the smoke going out of the drink and all that kind of thing.
- 26:33Dayna Roselli: Um, and they have a limited menu back there too.
- 26:36Dayna Roselli: So you can get food back there, like quesadillas and wings and all that kind of thing.
- 26:40Dayna Roselli: Um, we used to have like work meetings there.
- 26:43Dayna Roselli: We used to have going away parties.
- 26:45Dayna Roselli: Um, recently, I haven't been there in the lounge part in a while, but I've eaten at the diner.
- 26:52Dayna Roselli: A couple of my favorite things there is one of them the is the buffalo wrap.
- 26:56Dayna Roselli: I think everyone should get the buffalo wrap.
- 26:58Dayna Roselli: It's delicious.
- 26:59Dayna Roselli: You also, if you're trying to be a little healthy, you can ask for the chicken to be grilled.
- 27:04Dayna Roselli: Um, the burgers are unreal.
- 27:05Dayna Roselli: I love them.
- 27:07Dayna Roselli: The salads are okay.
- 27:08Dayna Roselli: They're a little over the top and so large that it can kind of be a lot.
- 27:14Dayna Roselli: Um I love the sundays that they have there, though.
- 27:17Dayna Roselli: I'm an ice cream person and they have great sundays, but their portions are huge.
- 27:23Dayna Roselli: Do you have any favorites there?
- 27:24Sean McAllister: Oh my god.
- 27:25Sean McAllister: I mean, the the I'm always a burger person.
- 27:29Sean McAllister: Your burgers are.
- 27:30Sean McAllister: Like you said, the burgers are delicious.
- 27:32Sean McAllister: I'm kind of like a creature of habit.
- 27:34Sean McAllister: You know, I'll go and always get the burger.
- 27:37Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 27:38Sean McAllister: Even though there's so much other good stuff on the menu.
- 27:40Dayna Roselli: All of it.
- 27:40Dayna Roselli: They have a turkey burger, the fries are great.
- 27:42Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 27:43Dayna Roselli: I mean, I would go for diner food if you're gonna go.
- 27:45Dayna Roselli: I would avoid the salad, get the melt, the wrap, the burger, all the Sunday.
- 27:52Dayna Roselli: Oh, it's delicious.
- 27:53Dayna Roselli: So you gotta go.
- 27:55Dayna Roselli: It's super fun.
- 27:56Dayna Roselli: Happy birthday to Pepper Mill, which had a apparently a big party with uh cupcakes.
- 28:03Dayna Roselli: I think the mayor was there, all sorts of stuff going on over there to celebrate.
- 28:06Dayna Roselli: And I did see one station, local station here interview one of the chefs there who said they are not slowing down, they're busier than ever.
- 28:13Dayna Roselli: Good.
- 28:13Dayna Roselli: And there's a lot going on for the next 50 years.
- 28:16Dayna Roselli: They're ready.
- 28:17Sean McAllister: Great.
- 28:17Sean McAllister: I love to hear that.
- 28:19Sean McAllister: Hey, uh, kind of across the street, a neighbor to the peppermint over at Resorts World, there is an all-new Randy's donuts.
- 28:29Sean McAllister: Oh my goodness.
- 28:30Sean McAllister: And if you're not familiar with Randy's Donuts, this is like an iconic location in Los Angeles.
- 28:38Sean McAllister: You have seen Randy's Donuts on TV in movies.
- 28:44Sean McAllister: There's this giant donut that sits.
- 28:47Sean McAllister: Is it on top of the building?
- 28:48Sean McAllister: I think it's on top of the building, isn't it?
- 28:50Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because I'm looking, I'm looking at their Twitter, and yeah, it's right on top of the building.
- 28:54Dayna Roselli: You're right.
- 28:54Dayna Roselli: They have an aerial shot kind of like right from the highway.
- 28:56Dayna Roselli: I think it's uh I was talking to JJ Snyder, who hosts The Morning Blend, and she was saying she's from LA.
- 29:01Dayna Roselli: She said it's like right off the 405, and everyone can see it.
- 29:05Dayna Roselli: It's like this iconic kind of, you know, moment when you pass it by.
- 29:10Sean McAllister: Yeah, I think there was actually even a classic moment from Wayne's World that was filmed at Randy's Donuts.
- 29:16Sean McAllister: Uh anyway, we now have one here in Las Vegas over at Resorts World.
- 29:22Sean McAllister: And Dana, we stopped over there for some coffee and to pick up a couple donuts.
- 29:29Dayna Roselli: So we went over, yeah, we went over and we said, okay, can we take some donuts to go?
- 29:33Dayna Roselli: Because we wanted to try some here on the podcast.
- 29:36Dayna Roselli: Um, however, I've already dipped in halfway through an apple fritter.
- 29:40Dayna Roselli: So I'm not like a big donut person.
- 29:42Dayna Roselli: I think that I don't do it because I like them and I don't like to get hooked on anything.
- 29:48Dayna Roselli: So I'm like, I just try to avoid the cat.
- 29:50Dayna Roselli: Listen, I gained five pounds when I was home for Christmas.
- 29:53Dayna Roselli: I've lost two already, but I'm already like, okay, I have to try a Randy's donut.
- 29:59Dayna Roselli: So I probably gained another one.
- 30:01Dayna Roselli: But I've had half the apple fritter.
- 30:03Dayna Roselli: But anyway, people love their donuts.
- 30:06Dayna Roselli: And how can you not like a donut?
- 30:08Dayna Roselli: They're delicious.
- 30:09Dayna Roselli: Some are better than others, right?
- 30:12Sean McAllister: And these are good ones.
- 30:13Dayna Roselli: These are good ones.
- 30:14Dayna Roselli: So we brought home.
- 30:15Dayna Roselli: What did we bring?
- 30:16Dayna Roselli: We got the apple fritter.
- 30:18Dayna Roselli: Oh, and then we took a coffee donut.
- 30:20Dayna Roselli: And then what was the other one?
- 30:21Sean McAllister: Uh glazed raised.
- 30:23Sean McAllister: Glazed raised raised.
- 30:24Sean McAllister: Which is like a classic glazed donut.
- 30:27Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 30:28Dayna Roselli: So we took that uh here with us, and we were gonna maybe try some.
- 30:33Dayna Roselli: First, though, uh, quickly wanted to say we went to the window, we got some great coffee.
- 30:38Dayna Roselli: They have iced coffee, hot coffee, and it's gonna be 24-7.
- 30:41Dayna Roselli: That's the big tip.
- 30:42Dayna Roselli: Which is great.
- 30:43Dayna Roselli: Great.
- 30:44Dayna Roselli: And this is located in Sun's Out, Buns Out, which is their breakfast spot right there in Resorts World, right off the casino floor.
- 30:51Sean McAllister: Yep.
- 30:52Sean McAllister: So there's a counter that you order from for your breakfast food, but then there's a separate counter uh in on another wall that is all Randy's donuts.
- 31:03Sean McAllister: And that case, that donut case, look so good.
- 31:10Dayna Roselli: This apple fritter.
- 31:13Sean McAllister: I had a taste of it.
- 31:14Sean McAllister: It is amazing.
- 31:15Dayna Roselli: I think you should try half of the coffee one.
- 31:17Sean McAllister: I'm gonna try a little bit of the coffee one right now.
- 31:20Dayna Roselli: Oh my gosh.
- 31:21Sean McAllister: Let's see.
- 31:22Sean McAllister: These are uh generous-sized donuts.
- 31:26Sean McAllister: And they're the kind that are it's not the dense.
- 31:30Sean McAllister: It's not a really dense donut, but they're like light and airy and big.
- 31:36Dayna Roselli: There we go.
- 31:40Dayna Roselli: Does it taste like coffee?
- 31:41Sean McAllister: It does taste like coffee.
- 31:43Sean McAllister: Really?
- 31:43Dayna Roselli: Ooh, I love coffee ice cream.
- 31:45Dayna Roselli: I bet I'll like a coffee donut.
- 31:46Dayna Roselli: I'm excited to try that.
- 31:48Sean McAllister: Like coffee sprinkles on top, and the frosting is coffee flavored.
- 31:52Dayna Roselli: And we were talking to um a woman that was working there behind the counter, and she said one of the most popular ones is are uh the plain the actual glaze donuts, just the so we took one of those too to try.
- 32:03Dayna Roselli: But Randy's donuts is now at Resorts World.
- 32:07Dayna Roselli: It's gonna be 24-7.
- 32:09Dayna Roselli: And so I think that's a huge perk.
- 32:11Dayna Roselli: I love that.
- 32:12Dayna Roselli: Um, everyone can get their fix, and now we can try this iconic donut.
- 32:16Dayna Roselli: Um, you know, Resorts World brings in a lot of um places from LA.
- 32:21Dayna Roselli: LA, well, I can't speak because the apple fritter is so good.
- 32:24Dayna Roselli: Brings in a lot of places from LA.
- 32:26Dayna Roselli: They have Craig's Vegan Ice Cream there at the resort, Wally's.
- 32:31Dayna Roselli: So a lot of places, uh, and now Randy's donuts from Los Angeles are opening inside Resorts World, which I find really cool.
- 32:39Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 32:39Sean McAllister: Resorts World, one of our, like you were saying, one of our favorite spots.
- 32:44Sean McAllister: So we love seeing that.
- 32:45Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh, those donuts are delicious.
- 32:47Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 32:48Dayna Roselli: I need to um eat when we end the podcast a little bit more because I can't chew and talk.
- 32:52Dayna Roselli: But before we go, by the way, we're gonna put up some video.
- 32:56Dayna Roselli: You can find the video on our Instagram page um if you want to see what it looks like and look at some of the donuts.
- 33:01Dayna Roselli: There's tons of variety um and really nice staff over there, too.
- 33:05Dayna Roselli: Love the staff.
- 33:06Dayna Roselli: Hey, before we go, I wanted to.
- 33:08Dayna Roselli: This is not a tip, but I forgot.
- 33:10Dayna Roselli: We want everyone to cheer for the Giants.
- 33:13Sean McAllister: Oh my gosh, yes.
- 33:15Sean McAllister: Go Giants, go all the way.
- 33:18Dayna Roselli: Here's why, okay.
- 33:19Dayna Roselli: Sean and I really aren't even like Giants fans or have really followed too much.
- 33:25Dayna Roselli: You know, my dad is a Giants fan.
- 33:27Dayna Roselli: Your dad is a Giants fan.
- 33:28Sean McAllister: Sure is.
- 33:29Dayna Roselli: Okay, so I we were you and I were at Circa Sportsbook recently on December 16th.
- 33:35Dayna Roselli: Last time I saw you, and I said, I'm going to buy a Super Bowl ticket for my dad for Christmas and put it in a card.
- 33:44Dayna Roselli: And I wanted to put 25 bucks on the Giants to win the Super Bowl.
- 33:48Dayna Roselli: To win the Super Bowl.
- 33:50Sean McAllister: Right.
- 33:50Dayna Roselli: So we went there and we were talking to the guy, and he's like, Well, do you want him to win or to to to just get into?
- 33:56Dayna Roselli: I was like, no, win.
- 33:57Dayna Roselli: And then he had made another another ticket.
- 34:00Dayna Roselli: And I said, Well, Sean, why don't you get one for your dad too?
- 34:02Dayna Roselli: So anyway, I got one for my dad for 25 bucks.
- 34:05Dayna Roselli: The win is$7,500.
- 34:09Dayna Roselli: Okay.
- 34:09Dayna Roselli: At the time we bought it.
- 34:10Dayna Roselli: That was the odds.
- 34:11Dayna Roselli: You got one for 20 bucks because we were looking what cash we had on us.
- 34:16Dayna Roselli: And yours is like over$6,000.
- 34:19Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 34:19Sean McAllister: Which is great.
- 34:21Dayna Roselli: So now the Giants have made the playoffs.
- 34:24Dayna Roselli: So here's the deal.
- 34:25Dayna Roselli: All of a sudden, Sean and I are like, I mean, we don't care about anyone else.
- 34:30Dayna Roselli: Giants to win the Super Bowl because we've got like 14,000 bucks riding on it.
- 34:37Sean McAllister: 14, yeah.
- 34:38Dayna Roselli: Yeah, close to 14,000.
- 34:40Sean McAllister: Man.
- 34:41Dayna Roselli: I mean, but I was telling you, I was like, well, if they make it to the Super Bowl, I mean, I might have a heart attack watching the game, knowing that we have a chance to win close to$14,000.
- 34:52Dayna Roselli: Because if we lose, I may I will be depressed for at least a week.
- 34:57Dayna Roselli: I might even cry.
- 34:58Sean McAllister: So if and when the Giants make it to the Super Bowl, you're gonna need to be watching from a uh medically supervised area.
- 35:10Dayna Roselli: We might need to have like, yeah, a drip standing by.
- 35:17Dayna Roselli: So anyway, go Giants.
- 35:19Dayna Roselli: You might hear us cheering for the Giants in the podcast over the next um couple months, and you might be like, why are they Giants fans all of a sudden?
- 35:26Dayna Roselli: That's why.
- 35:26Sean McAllister: Because there's money on the line.
- 35:28Dayna Roselli: There's money on the line.
- 35:28Dayna Roselli: We know our dads are gonna give us a major portion of the win.
- 35:32Sean McAllister: They they will.
- 35:32Sean McAllister: They will.
- 35:33Sean McAllister: They'll be happy.
- 35:34Sean McAllister: Hey, thanks to our sponsor, Vegas Near Me, now available in the iOS app store, coming very soon to Google Play for Android users.
- 35:45Sean McAllister: Uh, it's like a concierge in your pocket.
- 35:47Sean McAllister: Everything Las Vegas is there.
- 35:49Sean McAllister: If it's fun to do or see, it's on Vegas Near Me.
- 35:53Dayna Roselli: All right, and coming up in episode 151, there's some Moulin Rouge is coming to the Smith Center.
- 35:59Dayna Roselli: Sean and I are gonna talk about our terrible movie theater experiences we've had recently.
- 36:04Dayna Roselli: Um, we gotta share and gotta discuss this, but we knew we wouldn't have time today.
- 36:08Dayna Roselli: And then, of course, things are gonna just start rolling in here as 2023 kicks off.
- 36:14Dayna Roselli: So we'll have more announcements of, I'm sure, more shows coming to town and and other things opening here.
- 36:21Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's a great start to 2023, a great start to uh season four of Vegas Revealed.
- 36:28Sean McAllister: Thank you for listening, and we'll be back with more next week.
- 36:36Dayna Roselli: Flying on a Friday and the baby bands talking to the fifteen West Huntshouse.
