  Speaker 1: in prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for another day. Thank you,

  Speaker 1: Thank you, Father God Lord, for this is the day

  Speaker 1: that you have made. We will be glad and rejoice

  Speaker 1: in it. Father, we asked that you will take over

  Speaker 1: this podcast. We asked, Father God, that you will give

  Speaker 1: us the ram a word Old gud that you give

  Speaker 1: us revelation and insight, Father God, that you will touch

  Speaker 1: little bit of background. In chapter five, we saw the
• 3:40
  Speaker 1: growth of the church, and we saw the apostles getting persecuted.
• 3:46
  Speaker 1: We saw the pressure just getting hotter and hotter on
• 3:50
  Speaker 1: our apostles, and they did not shrink back. As a
• 3:53
  Speaker 1: matter of fact, they grew bolder and they had more
• 3:56
  Speaker 1: courage to speak the word of Christ. And their enemies
• 4:01
  Speaker 1: accused them for filling up the whole city with the
• 4:05
  Speaker 1: doctrine of Christ. Now wouldn't that be great if our
• 4:09
  Speaker 1: enemies can accuse us of that, that that should be
• 4:13
  Speaker 1: Our goal is to fill up our city with the
• 4:16
  Speaker 1: doctrine of Christ. At least people heard about them, right,
• 4:25
  Speaker 1: that's at least the goal is to get the word out.
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: And so even in the midst of this persecution, we
• 4:33
  Speaker 1: saw how they handled it. We saw how God will
• 4:37
  Speaker 1: protect us. As they were in prison and the Sadducees
• 4:41
  Speaker 1: threw them behind bars. And remember the Sadducees did not
• 4:46
  Speaker 1: believe in angels or spirits or the resurrection. And how
• 4:50
  Speaker 1: you know, God has a sense of humor. Sometimes he
• 4:53
  Speaker 1: sends an angel to break them out of prison, and
• 4:57
  Speaker 1: they went right back to preaching in a public square.
• 5:00
  Speaker 1: So I love the way God works. So now in
• 5:04
  Speaker 1: chapter six, verse one, we're gonna pick it up, and
• 5:07
  Speaker 1: it says, now, in those days when the number of
• 5:11
  Speaker 1: the disciples were multiplying, darrel rose a complaint against the
• 5:16
  Speaker 1: Hebrews by the Hellenists because their widows were neglected in
• 5:22
  Speaker 1: the daily distribution. All right, now, let's break this down. Now,
• 5:29
  Speaker 1: with growth, sometimes it could bring problems, right, we call
• 5:33
  Speaker 1: them good problems. The early Church, they were experiencing rapid multiplication,
• 5:40
  Speaker 1: and with growth came logistical issues. Now the Hellenists, now,
• 5:46
  Speaker 1: the Hellenists are the Greek speaking Jews. Now, if you
• 5:50
  Speaker 1: can remember in history, how Alexander the Great just expanded
• 5:56
  Speaker 1: the Greek Empire and so a little bit of that
• 5:59
  Speaker 1: Greek influence was left over, and so these Jews were
• 6:05
  Speaker 1: culturated by the Greeks, and sometimes the Hebrews didn't take
• 6:11
  Speaker 1: to that very well. So they felt overlooked and this
• 6:16
  Speaker 1: threatened unity in the Church. Now, growth will expose weakness
• 6:22
  Speaker 1: as well. The enemy loves to bring division, especially around
• 6:27
  Speaker 1: practical needs. Right, even spirit filled believers can feel neglected. Now,
• 6:34
  Speaker 1: this reminds us that ministry isn't just preaching alone. It's
• 6:38
  Speaker 1: also caring for the real needs of people. And that's
• 6:43
  Speaker 1: one of the things that we do at our church
• 6:46
  Speaker 1: is that we try to be a community church and
• 6:49
  Speaker 1: meet the needs of people. And of course, with His
• 6:52
  Speaker 1: High nation. And as you know, our event is coming
• 6:56
  Speaker 1: up December to twentieth, our heart is to meet the
• 7:00
  Speaker 1: needs as well. We're going to be passing out toys.
• 7:04
  Speaker 1: We are also picking up food on a weekly basis,
• 7:07
  Speaker 1: and we want to pass out food, and you know,
• 7:10
  Speaker 1: we just want to help. We volunteer, and we know
• 7:13
  Speaker 1: that we got to live this out. Is more than
• 7:16
  Speaker 1: just preaching the word. Amen. Now let's go to verse two.
• 7:21
  Speaker 1: Then the twelve summon the multitude of the disciples and
• 7:26
  Speaker 1: said it is not desirable that we should leave the
• 7:30
  Speaker 1: word and to serve tables. Now, the apostles recognize their
• 7:36
  Speaker 1: calling prayer and ministry of the Word, not that serving
• 7:41
  Speaker 1: tables were beneath them. It was not their assignment. Right,
• 7:48
  Speaker 1: we got to be men of the Word in prayer.
• 7:51
  Speaker 1: As a matter of fact, that is the top priority.
• 7:54
  Speaker 1: Nothing else will be accomplished without the Word and without prayer.

  Speaker 1: The lesson here is you can do everything, but you're
• 8:06
  Speaker 1: not called to do everything. Right. They could have served
• 8:10
  Speaker 1: the tables, but they decided to delegate this, And delegation
• 8:16
  Speaker 1: is a kingdom strategy. Hey man, This is how you
• 8:20
  Speaker 1: raise other people up in their ministries. All right? Verse three. Therefore, brethren,
• 8:27
  Speaker 1: seek out from among you seven men of good reputation,
• 8:32
  Speaker 1: full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may
• 8:36
  Speaker 1: appoint over this business. Hey man. Now, these weren't just volunteers.
• 8:44
  Speaker 1: They had the spiritual maturity. They were full of wisdom
• 8:48
  Speaker 1: and full of the Holy Spirit. The Church didn't pick
• 8:53
  Speaker 1: men based on personality, popularity, or skill, but character. This
• 9:02
  Speaker 1: is God's hiring process. God always looks at the heart.
• 9:07
  Speaker 1: God looks at our character. And yeah, our talent may
• 9:12
  Speaker 1: get us a position, but our character will keep us
• 9:16
  Speaker 1: in that position. Amen, all right? Verse four. But we
• 9:22
  Speaker 1: will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry
• 9:28
  Speaker 1: of the Word. Now, prayer and the Word are foundational
• 9:35
  Speaker 1: to spiritual leadership, every day podcast music outreach. None of
• 9:43
  Speaker 1: this works without prayer. The apostles knew their fuel sorts, right.
• 9:50
  Speaker 1: Let me say that again. We can do daily podcasts
• 9:54
  Speaker 1: and play music on the radio and outreach to the
• 9:57
  Speaker 1: community all the day this stuff, but if it's not
• 10:02
  Speaker 1: fueled by prayer, it's worthless. It doesn't amount to anything.
• 10:08
  Speaker 1: And so that is something that is a discipline that
• 10:12
  Speaker 1: I'm still developing, but it's very important and very foundational.
• 10:20
  Speaker 1: Now verse five, wait.
• 10:23
  Speaker 3: My wife take over.

  Speaker 4: And I know y'all int know that I was here,
• 10:27
  Speaker 4: but I was in the background waiting for a moment
• 10:30
  Speaker 4: to pop in.

  Speaker 3: So what's up, y'all? This is missus his hop.

  Speaker 4: I just wanted to jump in here and there just
• 10:36
  Speaker 4: so I can add a little bit of spice onto

  Speaker 4: what my husband is saying.

  Speaker 4: Go back just a little bit to where he was
• 10:44
  Speaker 4: talking about how character is so important. That is so
• 10:49
  Speaker 4: good because and he also said something I want to
• 10:53
  Speaker 4: kind of clean up just a little bit. He said,
• 10:55
  Speaker 4: your talent may get you there, but character keeps you there.
• 10:59
  Speaker 3: And in this.

  Speaker 4: Chapter it's talking about how Stephen was chosen. And I
• 11:06
  Speaker 4: want to say that the Holy Spirit in the Bible,
• 11:09
  Speaker 4: it talks about how God says that he will make
• 11:12
  Speaker 4: room for our gifts. Well, guess what our gifts come
• 11:16
  Speaker 4: from the Holy Spirit. And so when we think about that,
• 11:20
  Speaker 4: and we go to First Corinthians, right, chapter fourteen, we're
• 11:24
  Speaker 4: talking about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The chapter
• 11:29
  Speaker 4: says in verse twelve that these spiritual gifts, right are
• 11:34
  Speaker 4: for edifying of the church. So, going back to what
• 11:38
  Speaker 4: my husband said about character, right, if we don't have character,
• 11:43
  Speaker 4: godly character, I'm gonna say that because there's a difference
• 11:46
  Speaker 4: between just worldly character and godly character, right, But if
• 11:49
  Speaker 4: we don't have that golly character that God cares about,
• 11:52
  Speaker 4: then we're not going to be able to edify the church, right,
• 11:56
  Speaker 4: We're not gonna be able to fulfill the needs of
• 11:59
  Speaker 4: the church, the people of the church a lot of times.
• 12:02
  Speaker 4: And I know where I came from, I didn't even
• 12:04
  Speaker 4: really like people, and I know a lot of y'all
• 12:07
  Speaker 4: probably may still not like people or have that same experience.
• 12:10
  Speaker 3: So you know what I'm talking about.
• 12:12
  Speaker 4: To where it was about me, my four No more so,
• 12:15
  Speaker 4: when we get into God, he begins to work on
• 12:18
  Speaker 4: our godly character, right, we begin to be able and
• 12:22
  Speaker 4: have the capacity to edify the church. So I definitely
• 12:26
  Speaker 4: want to bring that out on why character was so important.
• 12:30
  Speaker 4: And also these gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us
• 12:34
  Speaker 4: will make room for us. But also, like my husband said,
• 12:39
  Speaker 4: even though we have room to do what we're designed
• 12:43
  Speaker 4: to do, our character can even either make that situation
• 12:48
  Speaker 4: or break that situation. And we definitely don't want to
• 12:49
  Speaker 4: be put in a situation just to lose it, right,
• 12:52
  Speaker 4: while would God want to put us in a situation.
• 12:55
  Speaker 4: That's also why if you think about Joseph and different
• 12:57
  Speaker 4: people in the Bible, it took ye years right for
• 13:02
  Speaker 4: God to reveal or manifest that person on the scene,
• 13:06
  Speaker 4: you know, into their full capacity, because he didn't care
• 13:09
  Speaker 4: about time. God is not driven by time, he's not
• 13:12
  Speaker 4: confined by time. He can care less about that. He
• 13:16
  Speaker 4: cares only really about our godly character because we represent him.
• 13:21
  Speaker 3: We're ambassadors for Christ.
• 13:23
  Speaker 4: So if we are just promoted quickly because you know,
• 13:27
  Speaker 4: sometimes we think, oh man, we're thirty or we're forty
• 13:30
  Speaker 4: and we you know, haven't fulfilled anything. Well, guess what.
• 13:33
  Speaker 4: God is not concerned about your age. He's concerned about
• 13:36
  Speaker 4: do you have the capacity of character that you need,
• 13:40
  Speaker 4: you know, to fulfill the mission. You know, it's not
• 13:42
  Speaker 4: about age. So if you are in that situation and
• 13:45
  Speaker 4: you're delayed, or you believe you're delayed, seek God and
• 13:49
  Speaker 4: ask God, you know about you know, your golly character.
• 13:52
  Speaker 4: Is your character good enough to be in public? You know,
• 13:57
  Speaker 4: because he don't want to be embarrassed and we don't
• 13:59
  Speaker 4: want to embarrass. So anyways, that's what I just had
• 14:01
  Speaker 4: to say. I just want to jump in and give
• 14:04
  Speaker 4: you that, and so thank you for let me drop in.

  Speaker 4: I know that was a surprise. He and I was
• 14:08
  Speaker 4: gonna do that, but hey man, that's what the opportunities

  Speaker 4: I have as a wife is to just jump in

  Speaker 1: But let's go to verse five and it says in
• 14:49
  Speaker 1: the same please a whole multitude, and they chose Stephan.

  Speaker 1: Now I have to correct myself. I was calling him

  Speaker 1: Stephen this whole time, but they're actually no v in
• 15:01
  Speaker 1: his name, and so I taught this well. I actually
• 15:07
  Speaker 1: I taught chapter seven at our church, and my pastor
• 15:11
  Speaker 1: pointed out that his name is Stefan, not Steven, so
• 15:15
  Speaker 1: I just have to confirm that. But it does say
• 15:19
  Speaker 1: Stephen and man full of faith, you know, the Holy Spirit,
• 15:23
  Speaker 1: Philip and also Philip. I thought my wife is gonna
• 15:30
  Speaker 1: say something else. Philip and all these other names I'm
• 15:33
  Speaker 1: not gonna try to pronounce in Nicholas, a proselyte from Antioch.
• 15:38
  Speaker 1: So they chose seven men to start weighing these tables.
• 15:42
  Speaker 1: Now two of these, Stepan and Philip, go on to
• 15:47
  Speaker 1: play major roles in these stories. Stephen, I mean Stephan
• 15:52
  Speaker 1: becomes the first martyr, and if you look at the Greek,
• 15:57
  Speaker 1: that word martyr is trans leaded in the English as
• 16:00
  Speaker 1: witness right, and Philip becomes the evangelists that we read
• 16:06
  Speaker 1: about in the Book of Acts. Notice Stepan is described
• 16:10
  Speaker 1: as full of faith and full of the Holy Spirit.
• 16:14
  Speaker 1: This is who God uses. He doesn't use perfect people,
• 16:19
  Speaker 1: but he uses full people, people who are fully surrendered,
• 16:25
  Speaker 1: full of faith and full of the Holy Spirit. Now
• 16:29
  Speaker 1: I want to say this, how can you become full
• 16:32
  Speaker 1: of faith? Right? The Word of God tells us that
• 16:36
  Speaker 1: faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
• 16:40
  Speaker 1: You gotta stay in your word. If you don't stay
• 16:43
  Speaker 1: in your word, you're not going to be full of faith.
• 16:47
  Speaker 1: And then how do you maintain the fullness of the
• 16:50
  Speaker 1: Holy Spirit? Well, holy Spirit comes through prayer. Right. The
• 16:56
  Speaker 1: Bible says he who calls upon the name of the
• 16:59
  Speaker 1: Lord shelby save. We need to be calling continually upon
• 17:03
  Speaker 1: the Lord. So that shows that he had a prayer life,
• 17:07
  Speaker 1: and he had a regular time of study in the
• 17:10
  Speaker 1: Word of God. And that's how we build godly character.

  Speaker 1: That's the gym, all right. Let's say verse six, whom
• 17:19
  Speaker 1: they set before the apostles, and when they had prayed,
• 17:25
  Speaker 1: they laid hands on them. No land of hands signifies
• 17:30
  Speaker 1: identification and commissioning. Prayer plus importation equals empowerment. Let me
• 17:40
  Speaker 1: say that again, prayer plus importation equals power. The early
• 17:45
  Speaker 1: Church operated with spiritual authority a man and I like
• 17:50
  Speaker 1: the fact that even though everyone chose these seven men,
• 17:56
  Speaker 1: and everyone brought them to the apostles, They didn't go
• 18:00
  Speaker 1: by the popular opinion. They just did not automatically just
• 18:04
  Speaker 1: give these men their positions. No, they went and they prayed,
• 18:09
  Speaker 1: and after they prayed, they laid hands on them, and
• 18:13
  Speaker 1: they commissioned them for this work. Amen. Now verse seven.

  Speaker 1: Then the word of God spread and the number of
• 18:24
  Speaker 1: the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many
• 18:33
  Speaker 1: of the priests were obedient to the faith. Now, you
• 18:38
  Speaker 1: know what, I just saw this for the first time,
• 18:41
  Speaker 1: that even the priest came to the faith. Now, the
• 18:46
  Speaker 1: results of order and obedience is growth. Even Jewish priests
• 18:54
  Speaker 1: came to Christ. A miracle of God's grace. Now, when
• 18:58
  Speaker 1: a church functions in unity, the word spreads with power.
• 19:02
  Speaker 1: Structure produces strength. You got to have structure. Our church
• 19:08
  Speaker 1: is very structured, and we need to have structure in
• 19:13
  Speaker 1: our home. And you know, structure brings God's favor. You know,
• 19:19
  Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with structure. Now, I've been in situations
• 19:23
  Speaker 1: where there was a very strict atmosphere in the church
• 19:28
  Speaker 1: I was going to, and some people would say that,
• 19:32
  Speaker 1: you know what, I will rebel against strict type situations.
• 19:38
  Speaker 1: But when you find that balance, structure is beneficial. Structure
• 19:45
  Speaker 1: is how you win wars. You got to have that organization,
• 19:49
  Speaker 1: You got to have that order that God favors and
• 19:53
  Speaker 1: God will bless amen. All right, well at this time,
