- 0:54Thank you. Now here are the host of the
- 0:58United We Scan podcast. Welcome back, everybody.
- 1:02Episode 38. Wow, we're moving up in the
- 1:05world, aren't we? I wanted to start off this
- 1:08episode with a post that was made in our Facebook group.
- 1:13It really hit me in the fields. This is kind of what we're all
- 1:17about, people. So this post, if you're not in
- 1:19our Facebook group, was made earlier today and it says.
- 1:23Like many others, I got caught up in the payroll issue.
- 1:26Unfortunately I just got back from Workers Workman's Comp and
- 1:31this pay was supposed to be the last of my COP and a week's
- 1:35worth from a CA-7. I've got nothing so far.
- 1:38No pay advance, no check. I've spoken to my PMADR
- 1:43district, workers Comp, payroll, and even the director for
- 1:47Workman's Comp to no avail. I've been ready to walk out the
- 1:51last three days. Somehow I keep coming back to
- 1:54the podcast and find myself willing to go another day.
- 1:58Thank you guys for doing this podcast that hit me in the
- 2:01fields, it really did. And thank you.
- 2:05This is one of the main reasons why why we do this job.
- 2:08So moving on, she is the they are the exact reason every
- 2:14single one of us is here every week doing this.
- 2:17Show the exact. I'm here for the money.
- 2:22Well I guess you're on the wrong line cuz none of us are getting
- 2:24paid. I'm still waiting.
- 2:28Don't worry, we'll double your pay next week.
- 2:31OK, can you put that in writing and round date it for me?
- 2:34Certainly, I'll even sign it too.
- 2:37I'll even sign it too. It's in the mail.
- 2:41Oh, that I don't believe. Josh, how was your week this
- 2:45week? My week is pretty good had.
- 2:49Lots of mail left over from when I was off last week and then was
- 2:56off Thursday and they barely took some of my bar codes and
- 3:01got to the argument with the 204 B over whether or not the error
- 3:07should be counted or not because she says she's not double paying
- 3:11me. I'm getting 1.7 times for it.
- 3:14We'll see how that goes, but. She did agree to give me the
- 3:18miscellaneous time that I get riding the elevator from my one
- 3:21business for Thursday at a slightly lower amount than I've
- 3:25been averaging each day, so. That's a plus.
- 3:29James, how was your weight? Oh, pretty normal.
- 3:34I pissed off a carrier in my office because I complained to
- 3:39the postmaster that they were working off the clock and so
- 3:42they want absolutely nothing to do with me anymore.
- 3:45But we were told by our director of Labor Labor Relations that we
- 3:51needed to grieve when carriers are working off the clock and
- 3:54get that taken care of before our next contract negotiations.
- 3:59So he's mad at me for something I was told to do by one of our
- 4:03union leaders, and that's fine. They can treat me like crap all
- 4:08they want as long as they follow the rules that we're supposed to
- 4:11be following and follow the contract.
- 4:14But other than that mail volumes were normal overall packages and
- 4:20and DPS was normal in my 4 trays every single day and getting
- 4:26done around the normal time every day so it wasn't too
- 4:29difficult. I was surprised at how little
- 4:32DPS errors I was having, which sounds about right for account
- 4:36for mini mail survey time frame, but other than that it was
- 4:40pretty much in normal week for me.
- 4:42Bill, how was your week there? Well, let me tell you, it was
- 4:46fabulous. Everybody worked together.
- 4:49We were cohesive, Workforce management was stupendous.
- 4:53And then I woke up and went to work.
- 4:57I was going to ask you what you were smoking and why you're not
- 5:00sharing. I'll tell you what I I sit there
- 5:04and laugh because, you know, I saw the comment about the 19%
- 5:08and I'm like, OK, how's that account for?
- 5:11532 pieces that I got for for one publication, 468 I got for
- 5:16another publication. How we got the two routes that
- 5:20got the same publication, it was categorized as WSS and the other
- 5:2516 routes got it as WSH and you know like I said I had a run in
- 5:30with the clerk over you know bringing flats over late and you
- 5:34know after we've have everything sorted up and the parcels and
- 5:37and all are done and. You know, he comes over and
- 5:40just, you know, drops his at 9:40 in the morning.
- 5:42It's like, you know, folks, you know, we're ready to either case
- 5:45the DPS and and or take it to the street.
- 5:48And this guy's wandering over his own leisure.
- 5:50So you know, it's one of those things.
- 5:52It's probably a communication error.
- 5:54It's probably that he doesn't understand my sense of humor or
- 5:58he just doesn't like me either. Or it's like James, you know, I
- 6:02don't sweat it at all. It's water off the off the
- 6:05duck's ass. But you know.
- 6:08Here we are in the mini Mail survey.
- 6:10People aren't getting paid and that's the biggest issue on the
- 6:14table right now is the pay. And folks, when we get into
- 6:18that, I'll give you my thoughts. But you know, the week per se
- 6:21was good, Good to average. Yeah, my week.
- 6:25People listening. My week wasn't too bad, actually
- 6:30had just my ox route for two days.
- 6:32How weird is that? But I'll take it Saturday,
- 6:36having to run a double and when Amazon didn't show up till 1/2
- 6:39hour after cutoff time, So deals to say that's going to get
- 6:42delivered tomorrow. So it's actually running a
- 6:44double Saturday. I was done by NO3330, so it
- 6:49wasn't that. All that of a week and the start
- 6:52of the new week. Oh, now it's been pretty much
- 6:54business as usual for me. Our carrier did retire Thursday.
- 6:58My countdown has begun. James, I'm glad that you haven't
- 7:05been having much for Dpsrs 2 two days this week.
- 7:09I had at least one tray where it looks like they after they
- 7:14loaded the tray they just picked some of the mail up and let it
- 7:18drop where it landed in the tray upside down backwards the one
- 7:22day I had. Which was last Monday.
- 7:25That was when I had 360 random letter, 60 some random letters.
- 7:31The one trade Thursday was a little over 100 errors, so it
- 7:36was fine. Speaking of you Josh, I heard
- 7:40through the I heard through the rumor.
- 7:42Mel, you have an update for us on the decertify movement and
- 7:47would you like to discuss that with the group?
- 7:49He in detail, went through. Our own opinions of
- 7:55decertification last week and you, you guys correct me if I'm
- 7:58wrong. We all are.
- 8:00One reason or another that it's bad idea.
- 8:02I did reach out to Johnny Chandler to ask him if he wanted
- 8:07to join us to tell his side of the story.
- 8:11But you know, give our listeners a chance to hear what he has to
- 8:15say and why he's pursuing and what's going on in regards to
- 8:21that I was. You know the person that I that
- 8:25knows him, that I'm friends with, so that he declined.
- 8:29So if he changes his mind, the invitation is out there.
- 8:33He just has to let me know. And we will ring to for him to
- 8:37come on and tell his side and we will not.
- 8:41We will stay negative in regards to the actual.
- 8:46We are not going to attack him. You mean neutral?
- 8:48We. I'm sorry, neutral.
- 8:50Yes, I'm sorry. Yes, neutral.
- 8:52We we will not. We will just go with the flow of
- 8:57the conversation. We are not going to berate him
- 9:02or anything. We just want to give him the
- 9:05opportunity to tell his side and why he is pursuing us, why he
- 9:11feels this is a good idea. For the craft as a whole, and as
- 9:15we say, we try to be as transparent as possible here for
- 9:18you guys. And you guys can be informed on
- 9:23both sides and understand where everything is coming from.
- 9:27Because we believe a well informed craft is the most
- 9:31important part of being part of this Union, because a well
- 9:35informed carrier is the bane of management.
- 9:38And the bane of the National Board.
- 9:43So thank you for the update, Josh on that.
- 9:46Really appreciate that. Now the next next topic I had
- 9:50put up for everybody was we did talk about the mini mail survey
- 9:54several times in the last few episodes, but there is still a
- 9:59lot of confusion out there on what to do with WSH flat.
- 10:04Bill, you want to start it out on what carriers are supposed to
- 10:07be doing with WSH plants. Oh.
- 10:11Are you talking about today or last week or the week before all
- 10:17around? All the What's supposed to be
- 10:19happening? Yeah, what's supposed to be
- 10:21happening? What the Union has said and what
- 10:23the carrier should be doing. What the union has said is that
- 10:27the WSA should be counted. What the Post Office is saying
- 10:31is the WSH is not to be counted, they don't agree to it, and
- 10:36they're supposedly at a step four in regards to resolving
- 10:39this. Unfortunately, the step fours
- 10:42have not gone our way lately. What I've told my entire office
- 10:47is that you count everything that you get.
- 10:50If it's a bundle flat, you count it.
- 10:51If there's WSH in there, count it a second time.
- 10:56If you're getting Nonlinear mail, count it.
- 10:59If you're getting Clerk mail, count it.
- 11:01If it's WSH, you're not to enter it into the scanner, but keep
- 11:06track of it for your mini mail survey disputes.
- 11:09We have the 19% added in there per the engineers in regards to
- 11:13flats, but I don't see how 538 pieces out of my 629 house route
- 11:20equals 19% Okay. Neither does the 432 pieces I
- 11:26got the next day. So, ladies and gentlemen, track
- 11:30your WSH. Track your bundles.
- 11:32If the WSH is in the bundles, segregate them again and count
- 11:37them separately. Okay.
- 11:39Because you may get credit form at the end of the, you know the
- 11:41Mini Mail survey disputes. That's not to say that the Mini
- 11:46Mail Survey disputes from the last Mini Mail Survey have been
- 11:49resolved as they have not been in my area.
- 11:53But if you don't document it, you can't get credit for it.
- 11:57As of now, WSH is not being credited by the Postal Post
- 12:01Office. Keep track of it for your own
- 12:03records. I think he said it the best.
- 12:07I can't add anything to that. Yeah, me neither.
- 12:09I'm good there. All right.
- 12:11The next one part of the mini mail survey in 52 weeks beyond
- 12:16scan parcel, still a lot of fights going on over that on on
- 12:21the social web. So anybody want to take that
- 12:24one? Ooh ooh ooh.
- 12:26Ooh, ooh me, me, me. How far it is?
- 12:30Anybody. Go ahead, Bill, go ahead.
- 12:36Oh. Ladies and gentlemen, if you
- 12:39can't stick it into the case, if it doesn't go into the the
- 12:43partition for your mail slot without you manipulating it,
- 12:47guess what? That's an unscanned parcel.
- 12:50Carrier Discretion, of course. I don't manipulate my flats.
- 12:53I don't manipulate my letters when I put them in the case.
- 12:57Ergo, henceforth, hitherto, it's an unscanned parcel.
- 13:01If I get a what, what are the catalogs?
- 13:05The Granger catalogs or one of the office supply catalogs?
- 13:11And I have one inch separations from my address and I have mail
- 13:16in there and the catalog does not go into the separation with
- 13:19the mail and the flats that are already in there.
- 13:23It's an unscanned parcel carrier discretion.
- 13:27They can argue all they want. But if it doesn't fit in the
- 13:31case, like OJ Simpson says, if it doesn't fit, you can't
- 13:36convict. So if you can't get it into the
- 13:41case without manipulating it, I think it was.
- 13:43If it doesn't fit, you must acquit.
- 13:45No, I thought it was. You can't convict.
- 13:47Same thing. Either way he got, he got away
- 13:49with it. So ergo, you can get away with
- 13:52it. Now I'm going to, I'm gonna back
- 13:56up what Bill said, because it's a rigid article.
- 14:00Most likely that you're going to have an unscanned parcel on
- 14:03that's not going to fit in the case.
- 14:04It says do not bend, things like that.
- 14:07But they're also arguing that, well, it's it's a flat because
- 14:12you guys don't actually have a standard for what a what a
- 14:15parcel is anymore. Yes, you do get the clerk card.
- 14:19The clerks have a card that tells them whether it should be
- 14:21charged flat rate, a flat rate postage, or whether it's a
- 14:26parcel postage. Use that card against management
- 14:29because if they're it's designed to fit in a parcel slot, it
- 14:32doesn't fit through those slots on that card.
- 14:36Then it's got to be charged parcel rate, at least according
- 14:39to the clerks, for normal people, not for those
- 14:42advertisers that send you the what are those the dream
- 14:46catchers or things like that? But use that card because if
- 14:52they are supposed to charge posted parcel rate for it, there
- 14:56should be an unscanned parcel with no barcode on it.
- 14:59Do you know how many of those somebody sends a gift card,
- 15:03something that's non machinable, that's heavy, And I have postage
- 15:07dues for parcel weight of a gift card you're going to charge on
- 15:12post or parcel weight? Yeah, that just became an
- 15:15unscannable parcel in my book. Another tricky one is the square
- 15:21letters that have an item in there which makes non
- 15:24machinable. And they're charging them a
- 15:27parcel rate because they have to be hand canceled.
- 15:31That should also be considered an unscannable parcel.
- 15:34They're charging them parcel weight.
- 15:36That's a parcel. Yep, show me the money carrier
- 15:40discretion. Carrier discretion, yes.
- 15:42Well, I I had these Oceana cruise boat binders, whatever
- 15:48they were, and they they just wouldn't fit into the case, OK?
- 15:52I mean. You know, I could bend it at the
- 15:54top and you can hear the the cardboard binding in there pop
- 15:57and crack. So guess what folks, to me that
- 16:01became a parcel, unscanable parcel.
- 16:03And you know, I know I'm going to get rung up for it because I
- 16:06had fourteen of them and they have a a threshold of five to
- 16:10six per day and not that I know that by heart, but you know
- 16:15that's their threshold is five to six a day per route.
- 16:18And guess what? When when they question me, I'm
- 16:21going to say. Exactly.
- 16:23It didn't fit in the case. I couldn't bend it without
- 16:25breaking it, you know, destroying the item.
- 16:28And you know the same way with the diplomas or pitchers, I
- 16:32mean, you get those pictures that are coming presorted
- 16:34standard. And it says do not fold in
- 16:37somebody's baseball pitcher or their, you know, their case
- 16:41school pitchers and stuff like that.
- 16:43I mean, who's got the heart to bend them up and put them in,
- 16:45you know, in the mailbox? Even I don't.
- 16:48All right, since we're still on this touch right here a little
- 16:51bit. I just had a question come
- 16:55through on the page Direct messaging.
- 17:00This is good. I was actually going to do the
- 17:01same thing. I'll read it and let you guys
- 17:04answer it. Good afternoon.
- 17:06Please address this if possible. End of shift duties are markups
- 17:12counted in the AM or end of shift.
- 17:15I think they're supposed to be counted after the route in the
- 17:18end of shift duties time. 2nd WSH, which I believe we just
- 17:23covered. I had a set come in this past
- 17:27week, 160 WHS flats. I was told that they were not to
- 17:32be counted because they were counted in the radar numbers.
- 17:35I do have a copy of the WHS flat.
- 17:40Do I need to dispute each of these items?
- 17:43Thanks. So I'll address the WSH first
- 17:48because we just talked about it. I'll take the markups in this
- 17:52shift. Yeah, that'll work.
- 17:54The WSH, if management is not counting them, write it on your
- 18:004240 and make sure that you notate it WSH and the number of
- 18:06it. That way when you go to dispute
- 18:08it, it'll be on your 4240 and you can submit your 4240 as the
- 18:12evidence in your dispute. And plus, it's an easy way to
- 18:16keep track of it as well. Management does not want to
- 18:19count WSH because they're being told by higher level that it's
- 18:23counted in the radar report when the shipper puts them into the
- 18:27system. But that could take a week, two
- 18:30weeks, or to be in there. And they may not actually put in
- 18:34the correct number that they actually sent the people either.
- 18:38There's a lot of chances for errors to occur in this system
- 18:42and I've I've personally found that the radar report is off by
- 18:462530% of what I'm actually getting overall.
- 18:50So it's best that you notate that on your 4240 and then
- 18:55dispute it at the end of the mini mail survey when they allow
- 18:59dispute forms to be submitted again.
- 19:01Go ahead, Josh. What's the other part?
- 19:03Okay. Well with the rec system not
- 19:06doing the survey you get. It's a timed event during end of
- 19:11shift to separate your markups, which means you don't.
- 19:16Yeah, the different during the survey.
- 19:18You're not getting a Bund 1 bundle for UBV, M1 bundle for
- 19:23forward, one bundle for this or that, a NKUGF.
- 19:29You get the piece count for all your DPS errors.
- 19:34Most a lot of carriers take their D PS:.
- 19:37To the street, so they wouldn't have that.
- 19:38So they get back to count anyway, which falls under your
- 19:42end of trip if you case your D PS:.
- 19:46You could do it either way. Personally I would rubber band
- 19:50it, take it for a ride, and when you come back, count out the
- 19:53pieces during end of show. I have to agree.
- 19:56I take my DPS to the street, so when I get back I as I separate
- 20:02and everything and then I just count it all together and then I
- 20:07just I separate into my piles as I'm counting it all together
- 20:11that way once I am. Give them my count numbers, I
- 20:15can then just take care of it accordingly.
- 20:18And I take my DPS to the street most often and so I submit my
- 20:23upside down backwards mail number and then do my DPS errors
- 20:29as part of my end of shift. So, Yep, yeah.
- 20:33And it was commented that you could do markups morning and at
- 20:37end of shift. I mean, if stuff comes in my raw
- 20:39mail or my flats that's a markup, then yeah, you know,
- 20:44stuff that's already counted for the day, then yeah, I'll do
- 20:48those in the morning before I leave.
- 20:49And then stuff I pull out of my DPS throughout the day.
- 20:52I do when I get back, but again, I take DPS to the street.
- 20:56So if I was casing it, I'd probably rubber band it and like
- 20:59James said, take it for, excuse me, Josh said take it for a ride
- 21:03and bring it back and go. Then get the end of shift time
- 21:07with it. And and if you don't think they
- 21:10they have thresholds already manufactured in regards to your
- 21:13errors, your upside downs, everything else that they they
- 21:17want to challenge us and and basically berate us about.
- 21:21We had a carrier who had two entire trays of D PS:.
- 21:25Upside down. They didn't want to give him
- 21:27credit for it. They actually accused him of
- 21:30flipping the D PS:. This is how this is how
- 21:35ridiculous management is they? They actually accused him of
- 21:39flipping the DPS upside down into another tray when he when
- 21:43he and since I'm the decertified steward in the office he called
- 21:48me over he goes, Bill explain to him explain to him and I turned
- 21:51around and I I spun the the tray around and I says well hold it
- 21:55here's the tag I pulled it out As for his route, As for today,
- 21:59I said so where's the tray? He flipped it upside down
- 22:03because how many times are you going to flip it upside down and
- 22:05have it in the tray correctly? And they're like, you know,
- 22:09they're like what? And I said you think he switched
- 22:12the tags, you know, and and I wouldn't put anything past some
- 22:19of the carriers and you know that.
- 22:21I know. But you know this guy just
- 22:23walked from the DPS area over to his case and and called the
- 22:27supervisor over. So you know, of course they're
- 22:29going to argue about it. You know, is it suspicious?
- 22:34Does it happen? Yes.
- 22:36Yeah. I Tuesday I couple of us routes
- 22:39had quite a few of our ubums brought back because well, those
- 22:45that have Spectrum know how that goes when you know you're
- 22:51bringing back 150 to 175 because those addresses don't exist or
- 22:58they don't have mailboxes, yeah, yeah.
- 23:02And one of the tricks I've I've learned to do is because of
- 23:05management challenging you in regards to counting the WSHS or
- 23:10your bundles and stuff like that.
- 23:12I count it as I throw it so that they they don't actually see me
- 23:17physically counting the stuff without working the mail and and
- 23:21you know it's it saves me a little bit of time but you know
- 23:24that's a little trick you can use just to get get them off
- 23:27their back because. They've come over and questioned
- 23:30people, you know, where are you putting down your count time?
- 23:33And one carrier says, well, I'm putting it down as my break
- 23:36time. After the supervisor left, I
- 23:39went over to smack them and say what the Hell's wrong with you,
- 23:44you know, really, you know? But then again you know this is
- 23:48the same carrier says well how do we endorse certifieds we
- 23:51didn't deliver Okay. I'm, I'm done.
- 23:54I I had an ank the other day for a certified, you know, it was in
- 24:00my DPS. Put the the picture and the and
- 24:04a quick video clip of me rippling through the one tray
- 24:08that I had the other day that supervisor give me a hard time
- 24:12about in the chat. See, I I actually went to the
- 24:17sporting goods store and bought myself a pitch counter.
- 24:22And I just sit there and as I'm throwing stuff, I'm actually
- 24:24clicking it on the pitch counter, so it's in my hand.
- 24:26It's kind of hidden in my hand if anybody's looking at me from
- 24:29behind and I'm just clicking in case.
- 24:31And as I go alone to count. Yeah, I said I don't you know, I
- 24:35take my DPS to the street. So for my inverteds I I have a.
- 24:42Actually I have two different tap counters on my phone, so you
- 24:46know, flipping through my DPS and if I have two 3-4 pieces I
- 24:50when I toss it in the box I tap that you know for however many
- 24:54inverted I have. That way I've got the total at
- 24:56the end of the day and if it's like yesterday where I'm running
- 25:002 routes, then when I switch over to the other route I switch
- 25:03over to the other counter so I have both of them available when
- 25:06I get back to the office. I did download one of those apps
- 25:12last time and tried it out. I know a few people that use
- 25:18that. I just couldn't get to the
- 25:20groove, so I just do like we did in the old.
- 25:24Now I had A tag sitting there and every time I have it
- 25:26inverted, I just put a tack and you know, I keep track.
- 25:29It's a bundle in my hand and then just put the tat, you know,
- 25:32the hats, marks, you know. And then when I get to the fifth
- 25:34one, cross it out and just keep going and tally them up and I'm
- 25:38done. Yeah, we've got, we've got some
- 25:40that do the Taily marks too. I tried that once, but then the
- 25:44song Wipeout came out with a drum.
- 25:46Yeah, so. And I end up with 11104
- 25:50inverted. You know, I think my most this
- 25:56week was 80. So 20 as a raw count, Yeah, I
- 26:02think that was the most I had this week for one one route.
- 26:06I only had 41 yesterday and I might get four or five sometimes
- 26:13up to 8 on my OX route maybe. So my numbers on my ox route you
- 26:18know like fill you know for the the raw mail is usually always
- 26:21one or two miss sequenced or whatever And then my inverted
- 26:26you know sometimes it's zero sometimes I have zeros across
- 26:29the board. Cuz that route so small, when
- 26:31you only have a handful of DPS, you're not getting much.
- 26:34Well, I'm I'm averaging about 2400 a day for DPS.
- 26:39Got a high of 3500 on Monday? And a low of 18 on Saturday.
- 26:46So yeah it when it comes inverted I'm averaging you know
- 26:52100 plus pieces a day you know and then my my miss sorts miss
- 26:58sense and everything else. But you know, I I I'm over 100
- 27:03every day too And it's like you know it's ridiculous.
- 27:06Of course when you got your A and K on A certified, you did
- 27:09you did scan it right. Oh yeah.
- 27:12I scanned it as I went to attempt to deliver it and he's
- 27:15like, yeah, no, nobody by that name lives here, OK, That's all
- 27:19I need to know. He's like, if it's not my name
- 27:22on it, I'm not signing anything. Not a problem.
- 27:25And we'll send it back. And you got the scan credit?
- 27:28Yes, absolutely. What do you got next, James?
- 27:31Now come on, get to the juicy one.
- 27:33Get to the juicy one. We'll get there.
- 27:35We'll get there. I got a couple more topics
- 27:37before that, but we'll get there.
- 27:39I know everybody's, everybody's biting their nails to see what
- 27:43happens. But First off, I wanted to talk
- 27:46about natural disasters. You know, we had the wildfires
- 27:51in Hawaii and then we had the hurricane come up through
- 27:55California and then the one come up through Florida into the
- 27:59Southeast states. So the biggest question people
- 28:03have is why isn't management shutting the office?
- 28:08When the states are shutting the roads and and blocking people
- 28:11from actually getting to work or going to their homes and then if
- 28:15you go into work and you get stranded because trees have
- 28:18fallen on the way out from the post office, why isn't
- 28:21management calling off these carrier?
- 28:23Somebody has to answer that without profanity, which
- 28:26eliminates me. Yeah, I can't.
- 28:28I can't even fathom or try and guess why they wouldn't make
- 28:35that doesn't. Fall.
- 28:36I will make it. I'll make it.
- 28:39I'm gonna jump in here real quick with a prime example.
- 28:43This was sent to me via via private message to my personal
- 28:50page. So I am going to bring this up
- 28:54here real quick, make sure I got the right one.
- 28:56All right. Yeah, I'll talk while I find
- 28:58this. Bring that up and then I'll talk
- 29:01about why I believe they did not call him off.
- 29:06And one of the biggest things that I've heard at anytime
- 29:09dealing with natural disasters or weather related issues is
- 29:15they want to see if one carrier can make it in.
- 29:18Then they don't have to pay any of the carriers that say I I
- 29:22can't come in because of the weather.
- 29:24So they turn around and they say, well, we're still open,
- 29:27We're still throwing mail. We're still doing this.
- 29:29We're still doing that to see if carriers will risk their safety.
- 29:34To go into the post office to do their job.
- 29:37It's a way to save on payroll. Because if they actually call
- 29:39the people off, they have to pay the people, they have to pay the
- 29:42regular carriers, they have to pay the clerks, they have to pay
- 29:47everybody. But if one person makes it into
- 29:50that office and everybody else says no, it's too dangerous.
- 29:54The people that said no, it's too dangerous won't get paid.
- 29:57The carrier that showed up will. So it's a carrier.
- 29:59Discretion. Your safety is the most
- 30:02important thing, remember, like Bill says.
- 30:04You're the most important delivery of the day.
- 30:06Make sure you get home to your family safely.
- 30:08But there are some postmasters that will call up their district
- 30:13manager and say, hey, we have a hurricane coming through and
- 30:18they're closing all the roads around here and the district
- 30:20manager will say no, they still have to work and they have to
- 30:24default to their supervisor or else they could get reprimanded
- 30:28or fired. So there's a lot of lot of
- 30:31intricacies to it. So go ahead, Kristen.
- 30:34All right, so this is what came to me, says Christian.
- 30:37So this is a carrier out of Florida, survived the hurricane
- 30:42but had to go into the office against my better judgment, just
- 30:46to be turned around by officers because main road wasn't
- 30:50passable. We had to scan all packages out
- 30:53on the street as delayed due to weather return to office, cased
- 30:58up today's mail, then ended tour, pulled rejects, holds,
- 31:01etcetera out of DPS. Got account.
- 31:04Now what happens? This is such a mess.
- 31:06Not real sure we'll be able to deliver 100% tomorrow.
- 31:09Lots of trees and power lines down.
- 31:11Turned real bad real fast. Has to be one of the dumbest
- 31:14decisions in my 28 years a post office has ever done.
- 31:18Please advise. I'll let you guys take that and
- 31:21I'll be right back. Unless you've had a chance to
- 31:23think about what you wanted to say.
- 31:25And you do it, Bill. This is one of them situations
- 31:30where you know, if management told me to take the parcels out
- 31:34in the street to scan them and bring them back, I I'd get in
- 31:38trouble real fast and explain to them that you know I'm not
- 31:42falsifying the information, period.
- 31:45If they want me to do that then I'll I'll have them put it in
- 31:47writing sign it round day. But I'm not going out on the
- 31:51street, you know, outside the geofensive of the post office.
- 31:55To scan parcels because of a natural disaster or weather
- 31:59related event. As far as the rest of the mail
- 32:02is concerned, I would turn around and have the lesser of
- 32:06the DPS the following day that you can work counted as raw mail
- 32:11and credited. If they don't want to give it to
- 32:14you, you keep a record of it and use that year mini mail survey
- 32:18dispute. You should be getting credit for
- 32:20that because you're not getting paid for the hours.
- 32:24You know, do a double set. Other than that, I I can't help
- 32:28but wonder why anybody would want to be a postmaster
- 32:32supervisor 204 B, and work under the district management that
- 32:36threatens them with their livelihood, to follow rules and
- 32:40regulations. That puts carriers or clerks or
- 32:43custodians or anybody else you know at risk for their job.
- 32:49We're not paid for an at risk job.
- 32:52We're not firefighters, we're not policemen.
- 32:55We're not EM T's or paramedics. We shouldn't be putting our
- 32:59asses out on the line. This is just a job and if you
- 33:04die the next day, they'll have somebody, in that case the
- 33:07following day. So don't risk your health, your
- 33:11life for the job if they do have a situation where they're going
- 33:16to tell you to. Take it outside the geofence.
- 33:19Like I said, put it in writing, sign it round stamp it, then put
- 33:23it with the mini mail, survey dispute or grievance.
- 33:27And then also fill out a 1767 safety hazard form because they
- 33:32want you to go out and hurricane force winds and scan these
- 33:35parcels as weather delay and you're sitting in a postal truck
- 33:39in the weather trying to scan all these parcels.
- 33:42You shouldn't do that. That's just dumb on management
- 33:46to make you do that. Now you know, notice that that
- 33:50the the basics of our service, the mail is not a concern to
- 33:53them, just the parcels. Well, yeah, because they can
- 33:56track the parcels with the barcodes.
- 33:58Yep. That's why if they had barcodes
- 34:01on all the mail, we'd have to scan every single envelope.
- 34:03Imagine how long your day would be with that.
- 34:05Well, if I was going out in the hurricane, I'd take my DPS,
- 34:08throw it out the window, and see if you'd qualify for airmail.
- 34:14Just. Just one.
- 34:16Just once it probably would deliver itself, but so one of
- 34:25our listeners just posted a question on Wednesday.
- 34:29We had no mail except newspapers due to the hurricane.
- 34:33We went home at 10:00 AM. It was common said that the mail
- 34:36would balance out the rest of the week.
- 34:39The mail Thursday and Friday was just usual average mail.
- 34:42Can anything be done well? We don't know what the plants
- 34:46are doing. Yeah, they're one of those
- 34:48mystical little beings that we know nothing about.
- 34:53Even management doesn't know what the plant does.
- 34:55But hopefully it will eventually, eventually all flow
- 35:00through. But I'm sure there were delays
- 35:02and things like that, and they're probably holding trucks
- 35:04and stuff like that. So we don't know exactly what's
- 35:06going on in the plants, but hopefully eventually that mail
- 35:08will get through. And then another person asked,
- 35:11does management get paid regardless if they show up or
- 35:14not during a national disaster? Yep, they get paid.
- 35:17They could be at home, yeah, their salary.
- 35:20They could be at home. Get paid for it, somebody said.
- 35:24So the response to the Wednesday one It'll come in after mail
- 35:27count. I'll bet my $0.00 check on it.
- 35:31I'll put my $0.00 check up on it.
- 35:34There we go. All right.
- 35:35Now before we get into that. We're going to talk.
- 35:39What you were saying about with that mythical place hasn't the
- 35:44black hole? Yes, yes, that's it.
- 35:46Hasn't anyone taught you the plant can do no raw?
- 35:50Oh yeah, I know. Sorry, I'm off myself.
- 35:53Box now. So before we get into those
- 35:58$0.00 paychecks, there's one last topic I had listed.
- 36:04There are a couple more topics I had listed, but first one is.
- 36:08UPS&UAW and what that means to us.
- 36:12So the first thing I'm going to do before we get into talking
- 36:15about this is talk about 39 United States Code, subsection
- 36:23101, specifically section C As an employer, the Postal Service
- 36:30shall achieve and maintain compensation for its officers
- 36:35and employees comparable. So the rates and types of
- 36:38compensation paid in the private sector of the economy of the
- 36:42United States, it showplace this particular emphasis on
- 36:47opportunities for career advancements of all officers and
- 36:50employees and the achievement of worthwhile and satisfying
- 36:53careers in the service of the United States.
- 36:56So UAW and Ford had a contract put in front of them.
- 37:03Ford presented a contract to them.
- 37:06We posted it. On the group and on our page and
- 37:10UAW turned around and placed it in the circular filing bin next
- 37:15to their desk because it wasn't good and many of our listeners
- 37:19have commented that it wasn't good and we agree with them.
- 37:22But what this means is the UPS, UAW and others that are having
- 37:28their contract negotiations right now.
- 37:30Can benefit us in contract negotiations as long as our
- 37:34union stands up and fights for what's right for us.
- 37:38So we need to keep monitoring these contract negotiations
- 37:42amongst these other private companies to see if we can
- 37:46benefit our contract starting February.
- 37:50Your thoughts, Josh? As much as I agree with you,
- 37:54unfortunately we got to look a little closer to home.
- 37:58And see what they offered me. Any else agreed.
- 38:02Because I'll guarantee we won't get much more than that.
- 38:09That's just my personal thought. I'll bet you your $0.00 check on
- 38:13that too, and given the issues that NALC has been having with
- 38:20their upper echelon, I don't think they're gonna get much.
- 38:24You can follow along at From 8 Arbitration Podcast.
- 38:28Hear what's going on over there, Bill, your thoughts?
- 38:32My my deepest concern is that being a government agency that
- 38:39even though you know you quoted a very logical section in
- 38:44regards to paying us compensory with, you know private industry,
- 38:49that the argument is that you know, we're not private
- 38:52industry. I I would then argue, well, how
- 38:55do these people go in? As senators and come out 20
- 38:58years later as multimillionaires, you know,
- 39:00they go in broken, come out multimillionaires.
- 39:04My personal thought is that we are operating from a very weak
- 39:09position as a union to negotiate.
- 39:13I believe our board is not capable of representing us in a
- 39:20fashion that we would seem equitable to our efforts.
- 39:25Everybody's forgotten about the two years of COVID that, you
- 39:27know, we suffered through and everybody you knows basically
- 39:32sweated through, you know, putting their lives and their
- 39:34family's lives in jeopardy, taking care of the country.
- 39:37But I digress. I don't, I don't have any faith
- 39:41in our national board. So therefore I don't expect much
- 39:45regardless of what the NLAC does to me.
- 39:48It it's a situation where we're going to go 111, you know and
- 39:53you know. To get get our cola, keep our
- 39:55cola and everybody should be happy about that.
- 39:58I just think everybody that's involved in our podcast needs to
- 40:02get their their case neighbors involved, get their friends
- 40:07involved, that they are union friends with nonunion friends,
- 40:11get them involved. We need everybody that's in this
- 40:14union, in this craft to step up and make a choice when they
- 40:19bring this contract down to us because.
- 40:23That is your money they're messing with in this contract
- 40:27and you need to be involved. Just like I said the other
- 40:30podcast, I'm challenging everybody to get involved
- 40:33because that's our only way of making sure that we get what we
- 40:37need in this next contract. It's the only way to ensure that
- 40:41we get what we need out of our national board and out of this
- 40:45union as a whole, is participation.
- 40:49But. Weren't the past five years all
- 40:51just easy money for us? Yeah, they didn't have to spend
- 40:54any money on national conventions.
- 40:57But, but wasn't that in a statement put out by our none
- 41:01other president of the union when he was talking about the
- 41:06how easy we had at the last five years since the last mail count
- 41:11before Rex went into effect? And the rapid decline in volume
- 41:17and. On average across the country it
- 41:21was only 2.8 hours lost. But, but we had it so easy, but
- 41:27was it COVID right in the middle of that And I'm sorry, the level
- 41:31of packages that we still have today on a daily basis, it was
- 41:36Christmas levels prior to COVID. So don't even tell me about how
- 41:41easy we've had it. Kristen, are you criticizing our
- 41:47national award? Who got to stay home for two
- 41:49years and not go through elections, not to go through
- 41:53national conventions, not have to travel around the country and
- 41:57leave their families while making six figure salaries is?
- 42:00Are you suggesting they had it easy?
- 42:03Absolutely. Oh, OK.
- 42:05They may have had it easy, but every damn carrier in the office
- 42:09with their boots on the ground did not have it easy.
- 42:12Well, maybe they were confused. Well, they didn't want to drive
- 42:15the 320 miles to deliver their route.
- 42:19Oh, this is N California Sonoma. Yeah, oops, they left it on.
- 42:25They left it on the Subs 2 Subs a day to run their route.
- 42:29There is 4 vacant routes from that office and there's only
- 42:32four Rca's. Now we get into the elephant
- 42:38slash Mastodon, since we only have one this time of A room.
- 42:45Now his name's Mastin Mastson. Are we digging the rabbit hole?
- 42:53Let's talk about the pay shortage that just occurred.
- 42:57Now, I've gotten it through multiple sources that the reason
- 43:02why this pay shortage happened was because when they were
- 43:07trying to upload Rmss to tax, which is apparently their
- 43:12payroll system, they took tax offline.
- 43:17The computer system was getting an update when the royal
- 43:20paychecks were going into them. Now, I don't know what IT
- 43:24department you have running up in the national office, but I'm
- 43:28going to tell you that when you're messing with payroll, you
- 43:31should probably do it on a week. When payroll's not being pulled,
- 43:35you should do it the week prior or the week after, not the week
- 43:38that it's happening. Not the day it's happening.
- 43:42Not the exact day that everything's being pulled into
- 43:45that system and needs to be pulled into that system so
- 43:48carriers can get paid. You made a dumb mistake.
- 43:51You made a rookie mistake. And I mean, considering you're
- 43:54using a system that was probably built in the 80s to run this
- 43:57stuff, you should know better. All right?
- 44:01This has been around long enough.
- 44:02You should know better. I'm going to ask amongst the
- 44:05four of us who all was affected by this?
- 44:09I was. I was.
- 44:11I wasn't. I was.
- 44:12I was not. All right.
- 44:14So we're 5050 right here, 2 for two.
- 44:17I was affected as an RCA. I received a partial check.
- 44:21I received. Now that first week of that
- 44:23check we all know was National Convention.
- 44:25I had put annual. I had work that's that first
- 44:28Saturday I had ran my primary and my ox route and I had put
- 44:32annual leave in for the rest of the week.
- 44:34And then when I got back I ran five and then Monday I ran four
- 44:39And then I'm just trying to remember what I was doing.
- 44:43But I had and then I worked my primary again on Wednesday.
- 44:47I got paid and I ran my ox route on Friday, just my ox route.
- 44:52So I ran my OX route three times in those two weeks.
- 44:55I did not get paid for my ox route one bit.
- 44:58Well that's right, I had Oji on Monday and Tuesday and I did
- 45:02mapping facilitator Tuesday afternoon.
- 45:04So none of my green car time, which was about 20 hours worth
- 45:07for two days. None of my Ox route, none of my
- 45:10overtime. And my annual leave for some
- 45:13reason got switched from an A to an N.
- 45:15So I had a lovely $432.00 paycheck Friday, which after my
- 45:20bills that were coming out Friday hit.
- 45:21I have $4.00 left to my name. I did decline the money order,
- 45:25but that's my own personal making.
- 45:28But yeah, I was affected. No green card time.
- 45:31The other two Rca's in my office.
- 45:33Again, no green card time or overtime.
- 45:36And the one borrowed RCA only was paid for the route in his
- 45:41Home Office that he ran none of his time in our office.
- 45:45I have friends at my old office that have reached out to me and
- 45:48nobody in that office got paid as well as the office just north
- 45:53of that and one not too far West of there as well received zero
- 45:56paycheck. Now all the regulars in my
- 45:58office were properly paid. So Kristen, just out of
- 46:01curiosity, I know you said you declined the advance.
- 46:05How close the amount they were going to advance you of
- 46:08estimating? How close would that have been
- 46:11to your actual net if it wasn't screwed up?
- 46:14Include if. He added that to 400.
- 46:16It would have been. It was fairly close, It was 500
- 46:20and something, but I think that was without my annual leave as
- 46:23well. But I only had.
- 46:24I think I was only taking about 16 hours worth of annual leave
- 46:27throughout the week. So OK, I know at my station I
- 46:31don't think anybody got paid. The girl in the case next to me
- 46:34talks, has friends and other stations and I know she said the
- 46:40one person that she talked to, they got their regular check but
- 46:44their code fives working, their kday didn't show up.
- 46:47It's just really, I did take the advance because the fact that,
- 46:52well, my account was already defeated because my wife works
- 46:56for the school district, so. What she does work over the
- 47:00summer is at a lower pay rate at bus out so she get school.
- 47:05Just started back up so next Friday is her first full day.
- 47:09So I needed it so I could cover my bills and unfortunately I
- 47:13didn't get the money orders until after the bank.
- 47:16Was Friday. My wife dropped it off Saturday
- 47:19because like, they put a hold on money orders until they actually
- 47:23know the funds are good. I probably went to that money in
- 47:27my account until Tuesday morning.
- 47:29And I've that's been a big issue with a lot of people with the
- 47:31money orders too, as the banks holding on to him.
- 47:34I saw where I saw a post earlier today where someone was asking
- 47:39for their sub if you if anybody knew where you could go to catch
- 47:43them, Yeah, because cheating. The RCA didn't get her mind
- 47:48orders until Saturday. At some point after it was too
- 47:52late to get to the bank before they closed and because of the
- 47:55amount she couldn't get them back and no one would cash
- 47:58because it was too high of a number.
- 48:00Party stores will. Some party stores that have
- 48:02check cashing will actually cash.
- 48:04I know she in the post it said something about she went to a
- 48:08couple grocery stores and a couple other places that do
- 48:11check cashing and they wouldn't. You know, because it was that
- 48:14$1000 Max on the money order. It would.
- 48:16They wouldn't. Have well, my personal My
- 48:19personal bank won't cash a USPS money order for three days.
- 48:25My personal bank, even though I've got the money, you know,
- 48:29they cover it and all. They won't cash them at all
- 48:31because there's so much fraud involved with the USPS money
- 48:35orders, but all all our regulars were paid.
- 48:39Except for the ones who assisted on other routes that those hours
- 48:42they never got paid for. So there was some some type of
- 48:45trigger in there that you know, got the arts, the Ptf's, the
- 48:51Rca's and any additional green card time was basically, you
- 48:56know, milch through the system. The ad hoc time, yeah.
- 49:00Yeah, what what really gets me is that several years ago, the
- 49:04union pointed out. The age of the Postal Service
- 49:08servers in relation to all the money they make and every all
- 49:12the investments they're making, as the Joy says, into growing
- 49:16into the future. And we have outdated servers
- 49:19that we're using for payroll as well as, you know, recording all
- 49:22our data in the in the Rex program.
- 49:25Yep, and that's why it takes them so long to calculate
- 49:27everything out. That's why it.
- 49:28Takes so long for our back pay for anything, you know.
- 49:32And yeah, this is yeah, I chose not to take the money order.
- 49:35That still means my cell phone payment's going to be late.
- 49:38Even if I did take it, my car payment would have been late.
- 49:42My car insurance is going to be late.
- 49:44Just going to pay it when I get my next full check.
- 49:48Not much I can do outside of that.
- 49:51And how convenience was it at the beginning of the month too?
- 49:55And Labor Day weekend. Yeah.
- 49:59I've seen, I've seen that that, yeah, I've seen that meme going
- 50:02around about, you know, great to have a three day weekend on the
- 50:06the brokest weekend there is. Yeah, I I have to agree.
- 50:12Oh yeah, it's going around. I'll find it.
- 50:14Now, there was discussions and a lot of Facebook groups of people
- 50:19calling in saying I'm out of gas, I can't come to work or I'm
- 50:23calling off until I get paid, things like that.
- 50:25Now if you go and listen to From 8 Arbitration, Corey actually
- 50:30talks about city carriers who got fired for calling off to
- 50:34protest because their cars were getting broken into in front of
- 50:38the believe it was the Memphis post office and they were
- 50:41protesting it and so they called in sick and they did a sick out.
- 50:45And it was in their parking lot. Yeah, it was their parking lot
- 50:49that their cars were getting broken into.
- 50:51Yeah. And stolen.
- 50:52And they were getting stuff stolen.
- 50:53Their cars were getting stolen, everything.
- 50:55And so they actually planned a sick out.
- 50:59And through the investigations of the Inspection Service and
- 51:03the postmasters and interviewing all the people involved in this,
- 51:07they actually fired all of them. And there are two important laws
- 51:11that we have to remember when discussing these things, even
- 51:15online, even joking about it. And that is 5.
- 51:18United States Code, subsection 7311 and that authorizes the
- 51:24Office of Personnel Management to blacklist any federal
- 51:28employee, and that includes Postal Service from any federal
- 51:32service for discussing, striking or any other form of calling off
- 51:37or slow down and stuff like that.
- 51:39And then there is 18 USC subsection 1918, which makes it
- 51:45a felony punishable by up to $1000 fine and one year and one
- 51:51day in a federal prison, which also would blacklist you from
- 51:55federal employment because you now have a felony on your right.
- 51:57So talking about it on social media, discussing it with other
- 52:01people and trying to get people to go along with it could get
- 52:05you fire. And trust me, if the Inspection
- 52:07Service gets involved in it, they will do the paperwork right
- 52:10and your union won't be able to do anything about.
- 52:13Corey said that specifically on his podcast they the NALC could
- 52:17not do anything to protect those carriers jobs.
- 52:20Well, all the four he talked about four of the cases where
- 52:23they all they went to arbitration.
- 52:25All four of them were different arbitrators and all four
- 52:29arbitrators denied groups. Leaving them under, you know,
- 52:33leaving them terminated, Yeah. And they did the process the
- 52:36right way. They went all the way up to
- 52:37arbitration. And it's not going to save you
- 52:41because the inspection service is a police agency and they are
- 52:46well known for their documentation.
- 52:48They're not like a postmaster who can screw up documentation.
- 52:51They they cross their T's and dot their I's on every paperwork
- 52:54that they do because that's their only job.
- 52:56Their job is to make reports and investigate.
- 52:59That's it. I'm gonna add in why this is at
- 53:03the top of my head at the moment.
- 53:04It took for something like this to happen for the national board
- 53:08to realize that there was nothing in black and white about
- 53:11the EMA being paid out when something like this happens.
- 53:15Yeah, well how could they not know about it?
- 53:30That's why they. It's been going on for 30 plus
- 53:18years. Oh, that's right.
- 53:21They have all the experience. Remember, that's what they tell
- 53:24all their experience on the national board at their state
- 53:27levels. That their, their.
- 53:31Didn't know about. It so you what?
- 53:32Not that I like to use it, but I'm glad I have a credit card
- 53:35because otherwise even simple things like yes, in the car,
- 53:39food on the table would not have happened.
- 53:41Yeah, you know, and I just, I read, actually read a report
- 53:45about people who are living paycheck to paycheck.
- 53:48And the interesting thing about it is that in our pay bracket,
- 53:54you know those earning less than 50,000 annually are 78% of the
- 53:59population And those that are earning 50 to 100,000, which is
- 54:04where a lot of your world carriers, regular world carriers
- 54:08are 65% are living paycheck to paycheck across the nation.
- 54:13Now when you jump up to more than $100,000 annually, it's
- 54:1843%. So even people who are living at
- 54:21$100,000 annually are still living paycheck to paycheck
- 54:24under half. But it's still a lot of people.
- 54:26And that's what a lot of people don't understand why people are
- 54:29so upset about this. Because most of the people are
- 54:32living paycheck to paycheck, especially in the Postal
- 54:35Service, Because we definitely don't make enough money.
- 54:37Then you got to think about, you know, where you know everybody
- 54:40makes the same across the board, with a couple of exceptions.
- 54:45If you're a 40K in West Virginia, you're making the same
- 54:50amount. Is that 40K?
- 54:52In California or in New York, cost of living, cost of living
- 54:58is completely different in all three places.
- 55:01And so, yeah, there is going to be spot, even table wines, upper
- 55:05steps on table, one of people that may be living paycheck to
- 55:08paycheck because of the cost of living in their area and they
- 55:12don't understand. Yeah, yeah, it does.
- 55:14I mean, you got, I've heard 45,000, I've heard 54,000.
- 55:18So I'm going to round it down the middle to 50, you know, in
- 55:21the middle to 50,000 people that were affected roughly.
- 55:24That's nearly half the craft. I think it was 50 or 45,000
- 55:29carriers affected with a total of $54,000,000 in and payroll.
- 55:36But you guys still think about that's still just under half of
- 55:40the entire craft whose pay was messed up in one way or another.
- 55:44All right, but hold on. So let's use those numbers real
- 55:47quick. 45,000 carriers with $54,000,000 in revenue.
- 55:52And then the corporate communication yesterday morning
- 55:54was what for the quarter, the post office had $18.6 billion in
- 55:59revenue. Yeah, that was another slap in
- 56:02the damn face. Yep, leave their time around.
- 56:05That was just not quite right. Yeah, that was also for June.
- 56:09So it also shows you how slow their computers are that they
- 56:12didn't get that out until now and that was from June.
- 56:15The second quarter, yeah, yeah, whatever quarter it was, it
- 56:19would have been the fourth quarter, but yeah.
- 56:21I meant we slowed the roll on the electric vehicles and put
- 56:24some money into the system. You know, get some new servers,
- 56:28you know, get get into maybe like the 20th century, if not
- 56:31the 21st. OK, why don't we do that, folks?
- 56:35Why don't we get the scanners, you know, corrected so that our,
- 56:39you know, data and our bread crumbs are recorded correctly?
- 56:42Regardless of whether there's cell towers in the area or not,
- 56:45how about mapping the damn routes before you start your
- 56:48second mini mail survey? How about that, folks?
- 56:52You're asking too much, Bill. They want to put them all in the
- 56:54PD&C's first, then they'll do the the vehicles and then
- 56:58they'll do the fixing of the. How about how about taking care
- 57:01of the people who've been carrying your ass for the last
- 57:03five years, huh? How about that, folks?
- 57:05Yeah. It's directed to you.
- 57:09It says Microsoft 95 still works great.
- 57:12Oh I I gotta get that update. I'm still on 3.1.
- 57:16What the heck? Actually, 95 was probably one of
- 57:20the most stable windows there was, but.
- 57:23Yeah. It's the.
- 57:26West Desktop I had was running off of me so well you know that
- 57:30the Postal Service is running off of Vista.
- 57:33The worst platform ever from Microsoft is Vista.
- 57:36Yeah, yeah. Oh God, yes.
- 57:38Yeah, I think my wife just had her computer at work replaced
- 57:42and it was working off of seven. The one they took away because,
- 57:47and the only reason they replaced that one from the one
- 57:50she had before that was because it no longer would take updates.
- 57:54So yeah, when you're running off of in both as servers and
- 58:00software and people's schedule upgrades updates when payroll is
- 58:05supposed to be submitted, yeah. That's I'm going to keep my
- 58:09mouth shut at the moment. You having a bill moment?
- 58:15I'm, you know, Crown goes really well with cran apple juice.
- 58:20I'm going to put it that way. Crown apple.
- 58:22Yeah, I'm enjoying it. I want royalties from Crown, OK?
- 58:27I'm telling you, man, can they sponsor us way too much?
- 58:33Yeah. But no, we just do this.
- 58:35We do this out of our own volition to help the road craft
- 58:38and bringing topics that are important to the room carriers
- 58:42out there. And that's why we spend our time
- 58:45looking at what people are talking about on social media
- 58:47and what the interesting things are that's going on in the
- 58:50world. Craft everyone of our listeners
- 58:51out There is an integral part of this podcast because you guys
- 58:55are the ones that bring us the information that we talk about
- 58:58every week. We don't know what's going on in
- 59:00every corner of this country, and nobody anywhere can know
- 59:05everything that's going on in all parts of this country, but
- 59:08we can get that information from the people that are in those
- 59:11parts of the country. The thing about it is, is we are
- 59:14here for our podcast fans, we're here for our non podcast fans.
- 59:20We're here for the people who don't like the podcast and send
- 59:24us fan mail. Hey, and any time that any one
- 59:26of them wants to step up and come on, they're more than
- 59:29welcome to reach out and say, hey, we have something to say.
- 59:32You know what, go right ahead. We'll let you have the
- 59:34microphone and it'll be all you. But yeah.
- 59:36Whoa, whoa. You know, it's we'll be neutral
- 59:40with you as well, just like we would be with the Decertify guy,
- 59:43because we want transparency in the craft.
- 59:46So if you want to come up and bring transparency to the craft
- 59:49on our podcast, you're more than welcome to join us.
- 59:52We welcome any of the Naughty 9 to this podcast.
- 59:56You know who you are. That's the one.
- 59:58They picked the brokest weekend to give us a three day weekend.
- 1:00:02Yeah, yeah, yeah, I will concur on that.
- 1:00:04But I did sell my POV so. That was the highlight of my
- 1:00:08weekend. It's gone.
- 1:00:09Didn't get much for it, but it's gone.
- 1:00:11Somebody just commented it's time for Ronnie to come on.
- 1:00:14Since he is retired, he can talk and not get decertified.
- 1:00:20Well, welcome Ronnie on. He's more than welcome to come
- 1:00:23on and talk about his time through the system and what has
- 1:00:26changed over the time that he's done it and anything he wants to
- 1:00:30talk about. We have absolutely no problem
- 1:00:32with that. Any one of them can come on at
- 1:00:34any time. Not a problem.
- 1:00:36You know, we like to be interactive.
- 1:00:38That's we. That's why we started doing the
- 1:00:40live listenins on the stage because we like to be
- 1:00:43interactive. We don't necessarily have the
- 1:00:45time allowed us to actually do a live broadcast.
- 1:00:48But you know, we try to be as interactive as we can, Even if
- 1:00:51that means, you know, going through emails and answering
- 1:00:54those questions or questions that may pop up on our comments
- 1:00:58sections on our podcasts or, you know, special private messages
- 1:01:04that get sent to us. We try to.
- 1:01:06Be audio, audio comments, audio comments.
- 1:01:09We get we've. Had a few.
- 1:01:11Yes, we have. We have.
- 1:01:14Like to Or even certified mail? Yes.
- 1:01:16Had a couple of those too, haven't we?
- 1:01:18Yeah. Well, some of us have.
- 1:01:21Yeah. It's yeah, I just this has been
- 1:01:28you know, that's why I entitled this what a week it's been
- 1:01:30because it's just you know, we're in the middle of a count
- 1:01:33or at a holiday weekend and oops, almost half of us didn't
- 1:01:37get paid or paid correctly. So on that note we are going to
- 1:01:41start winding it down for the night.
- 1:01:43I do have to work for two hours tomorrow since Amazon didn't
- 1:01:47show up before cutoff time yesterday.
- 1:01:49I guess we are getting tasked with delivering that after I
- 1:01:52brought up the point of we can't case all the flats because you
- 1:01:56have to count them, the hand slurted stuff.
- 1:01:58So how are we supposed to do that if there's nobody here to
- 1:02:01count them? And then I got the oh, I guess
- 1:02:03you guys can deliver the Amazon that didn't go out today.
- 1:02:07OK, I'll do that because Tuesday is going to be rough anyways.
- 1:02:10So I have a specific question for my office.
- 1:02:13OK, And I want you guys to give me your feedback.
- 1:02:17We have a convicted, twice convicted killer on the loose
- 1:02:21that's affecting four of our routes, three of which couldn't
- 1:02:23deliver some of their route. Over the last three days,
- 1:02:27including parcels. So come Tuesday, if they still
- 1:02:29don't have this guy caught, how the hell they going to pay them
- 1:02:33for three days of backed up mail in the sections they couldn't
- 1:02:36deliver? Because nobody in our office has
- 1:02:39a clue and I'm sitting there going everything less than the
- 1:02:43DPS that you have that day. Is going to be raw mail credit.
- 1:02:47I would say yes, and that's you. I would have to agree.
- 1:02:50I mean that was, you know, I had a couple weeks ago where they
- 1:02:53had the fugitive for Florida loose on my route.
- 1:02:57I had no clue other than seeing the two State Cup cars and
- 1:03:00inconspicuously parked off on one of the side roads and
- 1:03:03noticed that they were wearing camo.
- 1:03:05And I'm like, oh, they must be looking for somebody.
- 1:03:07And everything went down after I was done with the route, but
- 1:03:11they literally apprehended the guy on a foot chase in the
- 1:03:14backyard of one of my customers when he was one of the most
- 1:03:17wanted guys out of Florida. Yeah, the the most discerning
- 1:03:20aspect of this whole situation. The guy actually was gone for
- 1:03:25four hours before they noticed him missing.
- 1:03:27Then they put out alerts to everybody.
- 1:03:29How many MDD scanner text messages do you think management
- 1:03:33sensitive the city and rural craft that were in that area?
- 1:03:37None. Damn.
- 1:03:38You're good, James, that no. And that would be one day
- 1:03:41acceptable. That would have been an
- 1:03:43acceptable message. Emergency message?
- 1:03:46Exactly. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:03:48Emergency safety message, yes. Not the one that says there's a
- 1:03:51parcel on your case when you get back, you know.
- 1:03:53Yeah, but an escaped double murderer.
- 1:03:56This guy is wanted for murder in Brazil, his home country, as
- 1:04:00well as up in Phoenixville, PA. And they sent no alerts out
- 1:04:05whatsoever. The Imagine Imagine getting the
- 1:04:07phone call from a carrier saying there's seven guys walking
- 1:04:09around with full body armor, AR fifteens and side arms looking
- 1:04:13for this guy and nobody at the post office had a clue.
- 1:04:16Yeah, we had that too. But like I said, it was after I
- 1:04:19went through there. But still, you know, some sort
- 1:04:22of notification would have been nice if I'd seen the guy running
- 1:04:25through somebody's cornfield that could alerted the two state
- 1:04:28troopers that were sitting there looking for him, waiting for
- 1:04:30him. You know, I'm out there.
- 1:04:32I, you know, I'm out in farmland and I see people out in their
- 1:04:36fields from time to time. So to me that doesn't look
- 1:04:38anything different. But yeah, you know, I could have
- 1:04:42had a guy out. But still, you know, I was kind
- 1:04:43of like, huh, I must be looking for somebody.
- 1:04:45And then I found out what had happened afterwards.
- 1:04:48Well, and on the other side of that, they could have sent the
- 1:04:50an alert for the. Emergency alert system on cell
- 1:04:54phones for the area if they really wanted to.
- 1:04:57The emergency managers in that region actually have access to
- 1:05:01that system, so they could have actually sent that out over the
- 1:05:04cell phone if they wanted to. But you do have to make sure
- 1:05:07your emergency alerts, the system is set up for receiving
- 1:05:10those county notifications like that.
- 1:05:12So I guess they had a door lock order for everybody in that
- 1:05:14area. But I like I said, it was a
- 1:05:16couple hours after I finished the route when I had heard
- 1:05:18anything about it. Yeah, I mean, I totally get it,
- 1:05:24you know? And it happened to be on local
- 1:05:27Facebook groups that I saw it on.
- 1:05:28I'm like, oh, that explains the cop sitting there.
- 1:05:31OK. But yeah, no, I was clueless
- 1:05:33too, that I had an armed guy running around my, literally the
- 1:05:36neck of the woods by the National Forest.
- 1:05:39And yeah. Yeah, I was a little upset
- 1:05:41because they're offering a $10,000 reward leading up to,
- 1:05:45you know, information leading up to his arrest or capture.
- 1:05:48And I'm like, well, hold it. He's 5 foot and 120 pounds.
- 1:05:53Can't you just put dead or alive?
- 1:05:57All right, we should start winding down now.
- 1:05:59We're getting hour and a half going on here.
- 1:06:03Go ahead, Josh, your last words for this evening.
- 1:06:06My last words for this evening, Hopefully everyone.
- 1:06:10You only have to make it now till Friday with counting.
- 1:06:14Don't get overwhelmed, you do. Take a step back, take a deep
- 1:06:16breath that back him and flue smooth area.
- 1:06:20It's supposed to jump back into the 90s again.
- 1:06:23That's your next week games. Go for it.
- 1:06:26Reiterate what Josh is said. Yeah, it's going to be hot one
- 1:06:29out for a lot of places. Make sure you're hydrating at
- 1:06:33night before you go to bed, and then throughout the day as
- 1:06:35you're working, you start feeling overwhelmed and warm.
- 1:06:39You need to sip cool water, not ice cold water.
- 1:06:42Cool water because if you try to to jug it down you could
- 1:06:46actually cause more damage to your body.
- 1:06:47So make sure you're taking care of yourself out there and
- 1:06:51remember the most important person.
- 1:06:54To keep your safety as yourself, we talked about natural
- 1:06:57disasters and now talk about possible situations occurring in
- 1:07:01your area. And if you feel it's unsafe, you
- 1:07:04need to make make it aware to management that it's unsafe.
- 1:07:07And if it's bad enough, management's trying to force you
- 1:07:10file a 1767 safety hazard form because you're the only one
- 1:07:15responsible for your safety. Management's not the carrier
- 1:07:17next to you is not only you are. So take care of yourself out
- 1:07:21there. So you can go home at the end of
- 1:07:23the day. See you guys next week.
- 1:07:26Oh, let me Piggy Bank off of James 1767, because you're the
- 1:07:31only one that can make the determination of whether or not
- 1:07:34your health is in jeopardy. It's it's not up for discussion
- 1:07:38with management, OK? So take care of yourself.
- 1:07:42You make the decision to make sure that you get home to your
- 1:07:44loved ones every day. Be vigilant with the WSH.
- 1:07:48Your bundle flats, everything come from the nonlinear mail
- 1:07:52clerk, mail clerk, flats, whatever.
- 1:07:55Count everything you know. Dispute everything that you
- 1:07:58don't. Don't feels correct.
- 1:07:59Challenge them. It's your paycheck, folks.
- 1:08:01Protected. OK, we are having a heat wave
- 1:08:04here in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
- 1:08:06Nothing like Texas, but still substantial enough.
- 1:08:09You know hydrate. You know, the night before the
- 1:08:11morning of throughout the day. If anybody questions you about
- 1:08:15you being stationary for prolonged periods, you explain
- 1:08:18to them it's heat related. If you're driving one of the
- 1:08:21postal ice cream trucks, God knows you can have the fan
- 1:08:25blowing the door open and the heat coming off that engine just
- 1:08:28grips right through that firewall and cooks your toes and
- 1:08:31legs. So take care of yourselves.
- 1:08:34As I always say, you're the most important delivery today.
- 1:08:37Get home to your loved ones and be safe, folks, OK?
- 1:08:41Nobody else cares about you as much as we do.
- 1:08:43Thank you guys again. Yes, I know.
- 1:08:47Even in my neck of the woods. It's been a cool last couple
- 1:08:50weeks. Supposed to be warmed up again
- 1:08:53today, tomorrow, and into this next week.
- 1:08:55Make sure you stay hydrated. Dress accordingly.
- 1:08:58Enjoy your Labor Day tomorrow. Don't think anything too stupid.
- 1:09:03And those of us that are broke probably won't be drinking as
- 1:09:07much. But everybody stay safe.
- 1:09:11Have a safe Tuesday back after the holiday.
- 1:09:14We all know it's going to suck, but that's normal and we will be
- 1:09:17back next week. Take care, everyone.
