- 0:03Speaker 1: Girl, do we need an anti revival starring Ice Spice? Like,
- 0:07Speaker 1: come on, yeah, why not hard knock life. This is
- 0:16Speaker 1: like a Virgin the show where we give yesterday's pop
- 0:18Speaker 1: culture today's takes. I'm Rosdamo and I'm Fran Toronto and Fran,
- 0:22Speaker 1: you officially live in New York City again. I'm here.
- 0:26Speaker 1: You are a resident, yes, you, and I let me
- 0:29Speaker 1: tell you. Let me tell the Virgins. You and I
- 0:31Speaker 1: were we were scheduled to do something super fun and
- 0:34Speaker 1: super New York yesterday. Um, we were going to you're laughing, right,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I've got laughing at you. I'm just thinking thinking about
- 0:44Speaker 1: how badly yesterday could have gone. And I'm also thinking
- 0:49Speaker 1: about how I'm always right, Okay, dear Virgins. I bought
- 0:54Speaker 1: Rose Sweeney Todd tickets for Christmas, um, for the two
- 0:58Speaker 1: of us to go together for the new revival of
- 1:01Speaker 1: Sweeney Todd on Broadway starring Josh Grobin and Annalie Ashford U,
- 1:05Speaker 1: which is gonna be you know, we'll see, we'll see,
- 1:08Speaker 1: because I thought it was on Sunday. I had texted
- 1:11Speaker 1: Rose that it was going to be on Wednesday Wednesday,
- 1:13Speaker 1: and Rose was like, no, no, I think you said
- 1:15Speaker 1: it was on Wednesday, right, And I was like, no, no, no,
- 1:17Speaker 1: it's definitely on the Yeah. I asked her multiple things,
- 1:21Speaker 1: multiple times. It wasn't my fault. My ticketmaster confirmation was
- 1:24Speaker 1: extremely confusing and it was an honest error. However, we
- 1:27Speaker 1: did discover before we got dressed up. I mean you
- 1:31Speaker 1: had put on make up, My face was done. I
- 1:33Speaker 1: was about to put my outfit on, and I was
- 1:36Speaker 1: thirty minutes from leaving. And you know me, you know
- 1:39Speaker 1: I love to like leave early and go do something
- 1:42Speaker 1: in the neighborhood before. So you could have caught me
- 1:46Speaker 1: when I was already on the train, and baby, this
- 1:48Speaker 1: recording would have not would have been real awkward have
- 1:52Speaker 1: that happened. But look, I mean my suit was steamed.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I was ready to go to suit. Yeah, I'm wearing
- 1:58Speaker 1: I was wearing a little a little suit. It's like
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's so cute. It's like a cute. It'll be even
- 2:02Speaker 1: just as you said, like a matinee outfit is different
- 2:04Speaker 1: from an evening outfit, but like I was not going
- 2:07Speaker 1: to serve as hard as I will when we see it. Yeah,
- 2:10Speaker 1: which I'm excited to see. But my outfit now is
- 2:12Speaker 1: much better for an evening performance. I mean it's a
- 2:15Speaker 1: it's a matenee suit because it's like kind of like
- 2:18Speaker 1: springtime garden oversized garden kind of suit, like a garden attire.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Is that is a means that's very down to ab Yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 1: you know how like people just like a promenade, you know,
- 2:31Speaker 1: like garden attire rose like you know, I don't get
- 2:34Speaker 1: what that means where. But regardless, needless to say, we
- 2:37Speaker 1: did not we're not. We did not see Sweeney Todd,
- 2:39Speaker 1: So we're not going to be doing a Sweeney Todd episode,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but we will be doing a Sweeney Todd up as
- 2:43Speaker 1: soon after we see the show. To submit your questions, thoughts, concerns, prompts.
- 2:48Speaker 1: What do you want us to talk about with that?
- 2:50Speaker 1: Like a Virgin four twenty sixteen nine. So yeah, there
- 2:52Speaker 1: is not much going on with a sort of like
- 2:55Speaker 1: cultural immediacy for us to talk about. I we did
- 3:00Speaker 1: realized that there is a bunch of new music that
- 3:02Speaker 1: we have been enjoying that we have not discussed on
- 3:07Speaker 1: the show yet. So we're going to do a little
- 3:09Speaker 1: playlist check in today. Although first I want to talk
- 3:14Speaker 1: briefly about Cocaine Bear, which I saw it last week.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Oh right, I a movie that I probably won't see
- 3:21Speaker 1: but I wanted to see. So, you know, let me
- 3:25Speaker 1: to tell me about your experience. It's exactly what you
- 3:27Speaker 1: think it's going to be. Right, It's fun, it's dumb,
- 3:31Speaker 1: it's much better. It's a movie meant to be seen
- 3:36Speaker 1: with an audience, you know, that really enriches the experience.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I saw it at Alamo Drafthouse, so it was like,
- 3:44Speaker 1: you know, food and like a bougie setup. Although the
- 3:49Speaker 1: Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn the chairs don't recline, which is bullshit.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I want to be eating my chicken tenders like fully
- 3:58Speaker 1: horizontal when I eat in a theater. It's going to
- 4:01Speaker 1: be a specific movie because like the I don't want
- 4:05Speaker 1: to you know, I don't want to denigrate you know,
- 4:07Speaker 1: independent theaters, but like the experience of like little food servers,
- 4:11Speaker 1: like coming out with your little lights, like at the
- 4:13Speaker 1: middle of the movie, and you're worried about your food
- 4:14Speaker 1: the whole time. It's like very distracting. So it has
- 4:17Speaker 1: to be a movie like Cocaine Bear. Yeah, yeah, I'd
- 4:20Speaker 1: be like I do wish there were more movie theater
- 4:22Speaker 1: options in Brooklyn, Like why isn't there an AMC Fort Green.
- 4:27Speaker 1: We mean heartbreak would feel good in a place like that,
- 4:30Speaker 1: it would. I mean A twenty four just bought the
- 4:33Speaker 1: Cherry Lane Theater in West Village. Did you see that?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Well that's in the West Village and I live in Brooklyn. Anyways, Okay, yeah,
- 4:40Speaker 1: let's let's open our spotifies and talk about what we've
- 4:45Speaker 1: been listening to. Feel like we could start with Caroline Policheck.
- 4:49Speaker 1: That came out so long ago. Well, it came out
- 4:51Speaker 1: on Valentine's Day, and I have basically been listening to
- 4:56Speaker 1: Desire I Want to Turn Into You, Caroline Policheck's new album,
- 5:00Speaker 1: NonStop since then. I you know, for as obsessed as
- 5:05Speaker 1: I was with Pang, I surprisingly as she was releasing
- 5:10Speaker 1: the singles for this album, which she did kind of
- 5:13Speaker 1: over a very like protracted length of time, I wasn't
- 5:18Speaker 1: listening to them a lot. I think I was really
- 5:20Speaker 1: waiting for the full album experience. Although obviously I fucked
- 5:24Speaker 1: with Bunny is a Rider hardcore. I needed to hear
- 5:27Speaker 1: them all the music together in context, and it's such
- 5:32Speaker 1: a good album. It's like so much it is very
- 5:40Speaker 1: true to the essence of who she is as a
- 5:41Speaker 1: singer and songwriter, lots of like weird whale sounds and stuff.
- 5:45Speaker 1: But I think it's like a different It is sort
- 5:52Speaker 1: of like graduated from Pang. It's like a different kind
- 5:56Speaker 1: of vibe, like obviously graduated or like how it because
- 6:01Speaker 1: I'm not like a Caroline palatecheck scholar. So I've listened
- 6:04Speaker 1: to Pang obviously, but I didn't, like, I'm not a
- 6:07Speaker 1: paying stand you know, I don't know that much about
- 6:09Speaker 1: I would say, like, I think panyg is really ephemeral,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and desire I Want to Turn into You feels a
- 6:17Speaker 1: lot more grounded. It has a lot more sort of
- 6:20Speaker 1: like physicality. I think UM paying is really so much
- 6:26Speaker 1: about obsession and dreams and you know, like yearning and desire.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I want to Turn into You is about desire. It
- 6:35Speaker 1: is about fucking. It's like it feels so much more
- 6:38Speaker 1: physical and so much like lustier. What's your favorite non
- 6:43Speaker 1: single track? H Blood and Butter. I also love smoke Um.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to give it more listens. I've listened
- 6:53Speaker 1: to it like twice. The album that is, and Uh
- 6:57Speaker 1: and um Fly to You, the song with Dieta and
- 7:00Speaker 1: Grimes is in credible. I did love that song. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: um also I liked Bunny as a writer as well.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I think that there are things about Welcome to My
- 7:11Speaker 1: Island that are really great. Though I don't like the
- 7:13Speaker 1: Charlie XCX remix. Like I believe I really good have
- 7:19Speaker 1: the song Sunset muted on Spotify. It's so good do
- 7:23Speaker 1: not And I honestly is it because it gets recommended
- 7:26Speaker 1: to you a lot. It's it is, That's part of it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But I did hate it from Jump, I think because
- 7:32Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, she's trying to get that
- 7:34Speaker 1: Rosalia coin, like she's trying to get a little like
- 7:37Speaker 1: kind of Spanish pasa doble. It just felt it didn't
- 7:41Speaker 1: feel I liked that she was doing another genre. I
- 7:43Speaker 1: think it actually fit within the world that Caroline has
- 7:47Speaker 1: built and that she does transcend genre. She really does
- 7:50Speaker 1: do a lot of different shit. I mean, even the
- 7:53Speaker 1: opera song that she released like a few months ago
- 7:55Speaker 1: was like fucking cool. But Sunset, I was just like,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I did not I did not hear I did not
- 8:01Speaker 1: really hear her on it. I did not really like
- 8:03Speaker 1: the song. I think I love Sunset. I think it
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think it works so well with her voice. Yeah,
- 8:09Speaker 1: it does. Um. It was. It was kind of jarring
- 8:13Speaker 1: because the other night, I and we'll get into this
- 8:16Speaker 1: next I guess, um, the other night I might go
- 8:20Speaker 1: to hook up music. Right now is Raven the new
- 8:22Speaker 1: Kalila album. And I was hooking up with someone the
- 8:26Speaker 1: other night. And you know, in Spotify, after you finish
- 8:28Speaker 1: an album, it just kind of switches to like similar
- 8:32Speaker 1: a similar vibe playlist or like music you've been listening to,
- 8:35Speaker 1: So like this like sultry, sexy Kalila album ends and
- 8:38Speaker 1: then it goes straight into sunset. It's like and it's
- 8:43Speaker 1: just very not in the vibe. Um. Although the guy,
- 8:47Speaker 1: the guy I was hooking up with, was like, who
- 8:49Speaker 1: is this? I do not. I don't know. If Caroline,
- 8:52Speaker 1: there's not very many Carol okay, a lot if Okay,
- 8:58Speaker 1: most Caroline Palicheck songs fuck, but they are not fucking music,
- 9:02Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like I don't want to
- 9:04Speaker 1: fuck to paying Yeah, I have, I don't want to
- 9:09Speaker 1: fuck to Like I can't see anything on this album
- 9:12Speaker 1: that I would fuck to. But that's not a death
- 9:13Speaker 1: you know, that's not Yeah, not all music has to
- 9:16Speaker 1: be fucking music, but Kalila fucking music which I know
- 9:21Speaker 1: is true because last weekend on Friday night was it
- 9:27Speaker 1: Friday One night last week I had someone over and
- 9:32Speaker 1: put Kalila on and we hooked up while it was playing.
- 9:35Speaker 1: And then a couple days later I went over to
- 9:37Speaker 1: someone's apartment to hook up with them and they were
- 9:39Speaker 1: playing Kalila. Look it's Brooklyn. It's yeah, it is Brooklyn.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Everybody's fucking to this album. Um. I love Kalila. She
- 9:47Speaker 1: is such like a creative directorial like genius and um,
- 9:51Speaker 1: I can't wait for the remix album because her remix
- 9:54Speaker 1: album for Taking Me Apart is so bomb, like so
- 9:58Speaker 1: many cool Colla oberators on it as well, like Cupcake,
- 10:02Speaker 1: Jungle Pussy, um I simone uh it. She just like
- 10:07Speaker 1: has great taste in super indie, very queer black and
- 10:11Speaker 1: brown like producers and music writers and so like whatever
- 10:14Speaker 1: she does with like the Raven Remix is going to be. Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I was so excited to see people like lsd xo XO,
- 10:23Speaker 1: who produced Happy Ending on this album. She just Khalila
- 10:27Speaker 1: just has immaculate taste, um in terms of who she
- 10:31Speaker 1: works with, her visuals um and also selling people ps
- 10:38Speaker 1: fives or whatever or like um um anytime she there's
- 10:43Speaker 1: like a if you search like Kalila and like the
- 10:46Speaker 1: um green emoji or whatever, it's like her every tour stop,
- 10:49Speaker 1: it's her tweeting like uh DC, where do I get
- 10:53Speaker 1: the green? Like Philadelphia, where do I get the green? Like? Um, Yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 1: Khalila is just a real one. I kind of miss
- 10:59Speaker 1: the era where Khalila, Um Davante Hines, Adam Bainbridge from
- 11:05Speaker 1: Kindness and Solange we're all in like a group chat
- 11:09Speaker 1: together and like they could still be. They could still be,
- 11:12Speaker 1: they just don't talk about I mean, I've heard that
- 11:14Speaker 1: there was a bit of a falling out between some
- 11:17Speaker 1: of those creative minds. I don't know the faulty, but like, well,
- 11:20Speaker 1: dev Hines is kind of often his own world. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know, fucking every trans girl in like the Tri
- 11:27Speaker 1: State area. Yeah yeah. And Solange also just is a
- 11:31Speaker 1: woman removed from society, Yeah, as she should be. Well
- 11:34Speaker 1: that's that's what made when she got hacked and tried
- 11:36Speaker 1: selling people PlayStations so jarring, right, because that's not really
- 11:42Speaker 1: her tea. Um, have you listened to the new Paramore album?
- 11:46Speaker 1: This is why I did. I didn't latch, I didn't
- 11:49Speaker 1: latch onto it. I did listen to it all the
- 11:51Speaker 1: way through. What did you think? It's good? It's very groovy.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I don't. I don't love it as much as their
- 11:57Speaker 1: UM last album, UM, What's after Laughter, which was kind
- 12:03Speaker 1: of the one that really like, even though they have
- 12:07Speaker 1: for the past couple albums kind of revitalized their sound
- 12:12Speaker 1: a little bit, I think After Laughter was the one
- 12:14Speaker 1: that was like really critically lauded, had some big singles,
- 12:19Speaker 1: had a really nice like music video rollout is getting
- 12:23Speaker 1: like critical acclaim or I think so. Yeah, I'm feel
- 12:26Speaker 1: it's buzzy because it's like post Olivia Rodrigo, But I
- 12:29Speaker 1: also I don't know what like actual Paramore stands Spiel.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I think so because it's like, um, it's very much
- 12:37Speaker 1: the sort of classic Paramore like emo vibes, but through
- 12:42Speaker 1: this like you know, seventies revival that's been going on
- 12:47Speaker 1: in pop culture for the past couple of years. So
- 12:51Speaker 1: it does feel like a little different for them, a
- 12:54Speaker 1: little more low key, but in a good way. It's
- 13:00Speaker 1: definitely I've listened to it a lot, but always in
- 13:04Speaker 1: the background, and I haven't, as you said, I haven't
- 13:07Speaker 1: like latched onto a lot of it yet. Outside of
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, the first single that they released, This is Why,
- 13:15Speaker 1: which I do think is great, but I need to
- 13:17Speaker 1: spend more time with the songs individually and do some
- 13:21Speaker 1: active listening. Yeah, I haven't done a ton of active listening,
- 13:25Speaker 1: but I do wish that just this most recent album
- 13:28Speaker 1: was a little more emo and a little less like
- 13:33Speaker 1: you know, the funky groovy seventies. Like, Yeah, I I
- 13:37Speaker 1: I should give it another active listen. M Lana. However,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I've been actively listening Babe Baby, and something shifted. Yeah, everything, everything,
- 13:49Speaker 1: everyone moved it. I truly think it like there was
- 13:54Speaker 1: a breach in the time space continuum that brought and
- 13:57Speaker 1: w to us. This is the experience of being an
- 14:00Speaker 1: American horror, which I have been saying to myself, like
- 14:04Speaker 1: at random times. So I'll be like in my kitchen,
- 14:07Speaker 1: like making a sandwich, and I'll just say to myself,
- 14:09Speaker 1: this is the experience of being an American horror. Or
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'll be like, I'll like miss the bus by two
- 14:14Speaker 1: by about thirty seconds. This is the experience of being
- 14:17Speaker 1: an American horror. I like, I like, was I like
- 14:21Speaker 1: got my sandwich this morning? Was walking into the studio,
- 14:23Speaker 1: my pork belly, peanut butter and jelly, and I thought,
- 14:26Speaker 1: this is the experience of being an American horror T
- 14:28Speaker 1: shirt idea. Um, let me tell you, I'm not a
- 14:32Speaker 1: lot of stands. I'm gonna make a lot of stands mad.
- 14:34Speaker 1: But like, I was not a Chemtrails girl. I was
- 14:36Speaker 1: not a good honister. I'm so sorry. I did not
- 14:39Speaker 1: like the most like the last two albums. I felt
- 14:42Speaker 1: like they just all blended together, and I A and
- 14:48Speaker 1: W felt just as you said, a shift. I love
- 14:51Speaker 1: songs that have like sharp turns, songs that are like
- 14:54Speaker 1: split somewhere in the middle to like turn into like
- 14:56Speaker 1: morph into something else. Say, I love in Lana break
- 15:01Speaker 1: song format. I think it's when she thrives as a
- 15:03Speaker 1: songwriter shco. But yeah, what the fuck is that? I
- 15:07Speaker 1: don't know, but it's it's nonsense, but um, it's it's
- 15:12Speaker 1: the experience of me and American horlan. Her lyrics are
- 15:16Speaker 1: like it's a it's like a fucking slut algorithm like,
- 15:19Speaker 1: but it also is, you know, her most personal album yet.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I saw something. I saw that she She said something
- 15:28Speaker 1: along the lines of that um in a in an
- 15:31Speaker 1: interview she did recently. I think maybe with Rolling Stone that, um,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you know, she a lot of what she heard from
- 15:38Speaker 1: her fans is that they wanted more of her and
- 15:41Speaker 1: her music, like they felt like they didn't know her.
- 15:44Speaker 1: So these last couple albums, especially Blue Bandsters and did
- 15:49Speaker 1: you Know There's Tunnel under Ocean Boulevard, are a lot
- 15:52Speaker 1: about her family and she's you know, trying to be
- 15:57Speaker 1: She's trying to be vulnerable and you know, expose herself more.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Is um, did you know there's a tunnel also for
- 16:04Speaker 1: this upcoming album or was it like an isolated no,
- 16:07Speaker 1: it's for this album? Okay, Yeah, this is gonna be
- 16:09Speaker 1: a good album. I'm so excited me too. We actually
- 16:13Speaker 1: have a Lana del Ray episode coming up with Sean Fay,
- 16:18Speaker 1: a Juicy Juicy episode of Juicy Guest, and it's gonna
- 16:22Speaker 1: be incredible. And I'm you know that I would I
- 16:24Speaker 1: would consider myself the lawna virgin out of the three
- 16:26Speaker 1: of us. So yes, I do. I mean, I can
- 16:29Speaker 1: hold my own in a Lana conversation. But I'm excited
- 16:32Speaker 1: to hear from the stance. I've been there since day
- 16:35Speaker 1: one and I will be there until I die. Did
- 16:39Speaker 1: you like the Miley single Flowers. Okay, I think it's good,
- 16:44Speaker 1: but I think it's a psi op because like the
- 16:49Speaker 1: way that it is the biggest single she's ever had,
- 16:54Speaker 1: It's been on top of the charts for weeks. It's
- 16:56Speaker 1: like a worldwide phenomenon. It's, oh girl, it's huge. It
- 17:02Speaker 1: does not It's a good song, but it doesn't have
- 17:06Speaker 1: a reason to be as massive as it is. It's
- 17:09Speaker 1: giving Paola. The reason to me is like it's like
- 17:13Speaker 1: post breakup comeback kind of era. And she also has
- 17:17Speaker 1: a new creative director choice of Bonds ex. Jacob Bigs
- 17:21Speaker 1: or whatever his name is um and who I think
- 17:24Speaker 1: is amazing. And I think that the creative direction for
- 17:27Speaker 1: Flowers is actually fucking cool. So I do. I do
- 17:30Speaker 1: think that it's just like Miley and her team fighting
- 17:33Speaker 1: an excuse to like do something creative, to try to
- 17:36Speaker 1: do something fresh and new. But I agree with you
- 17:38Speaker 1: that Flowers specifically just felt like a TikTok play. It's
- 17:42Speaker 1: It's the course itself is extremely like TikTok. It's a Flowers.
- 17:48Speaker 1: The notion that the kind of like a we should
- 17:51Speaker 1: all just like do things for ourselves and trust ourselves
- 17:54Speaker 1: and like you're all you need is like extremely TikTok
- 17:57Speaker 1: culture uniqu u nick um. It just it. It really
- 18:02Speaker 1: is just giving Paola, like someone paid to have it
- 18:07Speaker 1: be number one on the chart, someone paid to have
- 18:09Speaker 1: it on every Spotify playlist. I don't get it. Someone, though,
- 18:13Speaker 1: who I do think deserves all the buzz they're getting
- 18:16Speaker 1: right now is Ice Spice, who I really like. I
- 18:20Speaker 1: was aware of her as a cultural figure for very
- 18:23Speaker 1: long before I actually listened to the music, and now
- 18:27Speaker 1: I'm so into it. I mean that um boys a
- 18:31Speaker 1: liar that song, I mean obviously pronounced liar. It's pronounced
- 18:35Speaker 1: it's pronounced leah like you like can't escape it. It's
- 18:40Speaker 1: like in every TikTok I watch um and so I
- 18:43Speaker 1: eventually had to like watch the video and listen to
- 18:46Speaker 1: the song, and it's fun. I really like Ice Spice.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I will. I love Ice Spice too. Her performance in
- 18:51Speaker 1: the video is like you're like, oh, you're like a
- 18:54Speaker 1: new star, you know what I mean, She's just kind
- 18:56Speaker 1: of there. I think she's I think she's still she.
- 18:59Speaker 1: It's it's an interesting thing with Ice Spice, specifically that
- 19:02Speaker 1: I'm not trying to say in a pejorative way, where
- 19:05Speaker 1: your fame precedes the full formation of us a star,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and I feel like Ice spices also figuring out who
- 19:12Speaker 1: she is in tandem with her morality. Right, Yeah, you
- 19:16Speaker 1: know what's not gonna help is that she was just
- 19:19Speaker 1: um trapped at the Kardashian West home this weekend. Why
- 19:25Speaker 1: one of my one of my mutuals tweet Um, there's
- 19:28Speaker 1: a video of her with all the with all of
- 19:30Speaker 1: Kim's kids, And someone tweeted a video of Um, I'm
- 19:36Speaker 1: of Annie, of the movie Annie. Um, I know I
- 19:40Speaker 1: think I'm gonna like it. Wait, I just I really
- 19:47Speaker 1: got the cadence of that wrong. Dear virgins, Rose and I,
- 20:07Speaker 1: We're not like you know, Awards Gaze, you know what
- 20:10Speaker 1: I mean. We're not like we're not like you know,
- 20:14Speaker 1: streaming every Awards show, like hawking the nominees, like making predictions. Um,
- 20:18Speaker 1: but Awards shows are like inherently queer and yet surprisingly
- 20:24Speaker 1: surprisingly anti caweer. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm
- 20:28Speaker 1: being facetious because this is like how all music critics,
- 20:31Speaker 1: I mean, how all movie critics I know, And well,
- 20:34Speaker 1: I mean that's the thing is, like, we are not
- 20:36Speaker 1: Awards girls, and we're also not really critics, but at
- 20:41Speaker 1: certain points on our timeline, we've had to be awards girls,
- 20:45Speaker 1: because if you work in media, you know you have
- 20:48Speaker 1: to the night of the Oscars. You're like in a
- 20:50Speaker 1: war room story in real time, like making sure you're
- 20:54Speaker 1: the first to get the meme, the first to get
- 20:56Speaker 1: the whatever. Yeah, do you miss? I mean? I mean
- 21:00Speaker 1: I usually still am the first, even if i'm That's
- 21:04Speaker 1: the thing is when award shows happen, even though I
- 21:06Speaker 1: don't watch them, I'm usually still on Twitter catching all
- 21:09Speaker 1: the important moments and getting my memes in because it's
- 21:12Speaker 1: like that's what you do. It's fun. It's it's like
- 21:14Speaker 1: part of the fun. And I think that it's like
- 21:16Speaker 1: the things that we will remember are the things that
- 21:19Speaker 1: translated to the Internet, which is like you know, Adele
- 21:22Speaker 1: de Zeme or like really bad Oscar wins or like
- 21:26Speaker 1: um just things that like feel viral. M. Yeah, but
- 21:31Speaker 1: I'm not really like a I'm not really like an
- 21:33Speaker 1: Award show um expert, so to speak. Neither am I
- 21:37Speaker 1: and I'm not. I'm not a person who feels like
- 21:42Speaker 1: especially with the Oscars, I don't see every Best Picture nominee.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I don't care. We have talked about this before. I
- 21:49Speaker 1: am much more of a populist movie girly. I like
- 21:52Speaker 1: movies over films for the most part, and I like
- 21:59Speaker 1: this sort of ephemera that exists around awards season, but
- 22:04Speaker 1: I don't care about the awards themselves. And honestly, at
- 22:09Speaker 1: this point every year, I'm like, please, God, let this
- 22:13Speaker 1: end so we can stop talking about these movies, like
- 22:15Speaker 1: with something like everything everywhere, all at once. It came
- 22:18Speaker 1: out last Spring, so we've been talking about this movie
- 22:22Speaker 1: for almost a year now. It is exhausting. Just give
- 22:27Speaker 1: MICHELLEO the Oscar already, so we can shut up about
- 22:30Speaker 1: this movie that in the year since it came out,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I have kind of like, you're like, you're over it.
- 22:36Speaker 1: I'm over it. Like it was good, let's leave it
- 22:39Speaker 1: at that. You resent things that are over exposed a
- 22:42Speaker 1: lot of the time, I feel especially I do, and
- 22:44Speaker 1: especially because the thing is, if it had a shorter life, yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 1: I would have been able to enjoy it and move on.
- 22:52Speaker 1: And since we have now lived with that movie, especially
- 22:55Speaker 1: for so long, I think my issues with it have
- 22:59Speaker 1: been able to flourish, and that I don't think it's
- 23:02Speaker 1: as good as it's lauded as and so I'm just like, please, like,
- 23:07Speaker 1: let's let this go. M Yeah, is there anything like
- 23:11Speaker 1: in this US in this year's Oscar season that you
- 23:14Speaker 1: are excited for? Or maybe if it's not a film, like,
- 23:18Speaker 1: are there any yatar? Are there any cool performances there,
- 23:20Speaker 1: anything who's slated to perform. I have absolutely no idea.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I want to know the only things that I was. Okay,
- 23:29Speaker 1: let's let's at least talk about the Best Picture nominees.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Let's go go through and give a little take on
- 23:34Speaker 1: all of them. Top Gun Maverick one of the best
- 23:36Speaker 1: films of twenty twenty two. I had so much fun
- 23:39Speaker 1: seeing it. I think Hold my Hand should win Best Song. Um,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I probably will. It could because it's not gonna be Rihanna.
- 23:48Speaker 1: That song fucking sucks. I'm I'm so mad at her.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I cannot believe she'd I mean, actually, it's probably not
- 23:55Speaker 1: her fault. I'm mad at Black Panther. No, I'm mad
- 23:57Speaker 1: at her. It was in her control. That song. That
- 24:02Speaker 1: song sucks. Um. Then there's women talking, which I haven't seen.
- 24:07Speaker 1: We'll never see everything ever where all at once. Um.
- 24:10Speaker 1: You know, good movie. I I disagree. I mean I
- 24:16Speaker 1: it is still my pick. I I it's the one
- 24:18Speaker 1: that is out of everything I've seen, like the most
- 24:20Speaker 1: memorable Banshees of Innisharin, which I I love, I saw
- 24:25Speaker 1: like a month ago. Incredible, so funny, so sad, so beautiful. Um,
- 24:30Speaker 1: Avatar is it gonna win? I'll be sa Avatar is
- 24:33Speaker 1: not gonna win. But Avatar was one of the best
- 24:36Speaker 1: movies of twenty twenty two. I understand why it's on
- 24:40Speaker 1: Best Picture. I think on like the production level, everything
- 24:43Speaker 1: that it accomplishes. It is course, yes, amorable Triangle of
- 24:46Speaker 1: Sadness I still haven't seen, but you loved. Wait, Triangle
- 24:50Speaker 1: was not Oh my god, oh my god. I completely
- 24:54Speaker 1: missed that. I thought it wasn't. I thought it was
- 24:56Speaker 1: totally ousted for No Nations. I fucking loved that movie.
- 25:00Speaker 1: That would be like my runner up pick, but obviously
- 25:01Speaker 1: we never get picked for Best Picture. I would pick
- 25:04Speaker 1: that over Tar, honestly in my ranking. Um wow, I
- 25:08Speaker 1: would not. Tar to me, is the movie? Is is
- 25:13Speaker 1: it your number one? Or is Top Gun your number one? No?
- 25:16Speaker 1: Tar is my number one, even though Top Gun is
- 25:19Speaker 1: the best movie ever created or whatever. The no. I
- 25:22Speaker 1: don't I don't think I don't know. I said it
- 25:24Speaker 1: was one of my favorite movies of twenty two. I
- 25:27Speaker 1: love Tar. I think it's incredibly acted, directed, written. It
- 25:33Speaker 1: like captures the moment we're living in so perfectly in
- 25:37Speaker 1: a way that I don't know. Well, I guess in
- 25:39Speaker 1: a way that maybe Triangle of Sadness from what I've
- 25:42Speaker 1: heard about it does from a different way. But I
- 25:45Speaker 1: just think Tar is beautiful, perfect, stunning. Elvis one of
- 25:51Speaker 1: the worst movies I've ever seen. Literally, I wanted to
- 25:53Speaker 1: vomit the whole time. Austin Butler is like phenomen in
- 25:57Speaker 1: this movie as a performer, But the movie on the country,
- 26:01Speaker 1: it's terrible. It's like on the construction level is terrible,
- 26:04Speaker 1: and Tom Hanks is terrible. Yea, it should not be
- 26:09Speaker 1: in this list. But let me tell you best film
- 26:13Speaker 1: of twenty twenty. Best film in the Oscar nominee Pile
- 26:17Speaker 1: Rose and I agree, is all quiet on the Western front? Right?
- 26:21Speaker 1: That movie? Damn, it's definitely a movie, right, I like,
- 26:25Speaker 1: I hate war movies, and that's I thought it was
- 26:29Speaker 1: like a Western No. Um, it's a remake of like
- 26:33Speaker 1: another Oscar. Another Best Picture, isn't it based on a book?
- 26:37Speaker 1: Isn't it all quiet on the western front of book?
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's probably a book, but it was. There was a
- 26:41Speaker 1: movie in like the nineteen twenties. It's a remake of
- 26:44Speaker 1: of the Best Picture winner from like nineteen twenty something.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Every year, every year at the Oscars, you have to
- 26:49Speaker 1: have a war movie in there. It's got to be
- 26:52Speaker 1: like Dunkirk or save it saving private war movie, blockbuster movie, biopic, yeah, biopicum,
- 27:00Speaker 1: either a Jewish movie or a movie about Hollywood or both.
- 27:04Speaker 1: So The Fableman, which is the last, Yeah, the one
- 27:07Speaker 1: we haven't talked about yet and which I haven't seen,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but like somehow The Fableman's has become a gay twitter thing.
- 27:13Speaker 1: A bunch of a bunch of people I follow have
- 27:16Speaker 1: like tweet about it NonStop. That and The Whale, which
- 27:18Speaker 1: was not nominated for Best Picture, but Brendan Fraser was
- 27:22Speaker 1: nominated for Best Actor. That meme of him floating into
- 27:25Speaker 1: this car, however, is that should be nominated for something? Um,
- 27:31Speaker 1: Everything everywhere all at once also fulfills like the underdog
- 27:34Speaker 1: kind of archetype. But it's not an undergo anymore at
- 27:37Speaker 1: this point, like it was. That's that is I think
- 27:40Speaker 1: one of the things that's become annoying about it is
- 27:42Speaker 1: that it's still being talked about as if it's like
- 27:44Speaker 1: this scrappy little movie, and yet it has had this
- 27:48Speaker 1: massive press and industry push for a year. Now. You okay,
- 27:54Speaker 1: we're a little we're a little divided on everything everywhere
- 27:56Speaker 1: all at once. However, you and I do have the
- 27:58Speaker 1: same kind of um impulse with cultural stuff like this.
- 28:02Speaker 1: That's like slightly it like derives from like our indie
- 28:06Speaker 1: I think probably indie snobbery or whatever, where when you
- 28:09Speaker 1: love something, or when I love something and it feels
- 28:12Speaker 1: so new, so fresh, like so special, and then everyone
- 28:15Speaker 1: else catches onto it, it just it's it doesn't feel
- 28:19Speaker 1: special anymore. But that's not the movies. It's not it's
- 28:21Speaker 1: for me. It's not about everyone catching onto it. It's
- 28:25Speaker 1: not a like, oh, this movie used to be cool.
- 28:28Speaker 1: It's not about that. It's like the overexposure to me
- 28:31Speaker 1: highlights that it's not as good as it's being lauded as.
- 28:36Speaker 1: And I feel like I'm not living in the same
- 28:39Speaker 1: universe as everybody else. I'm living in the multiverse. In
- 28:43Speaker 1: the multiverse, yeah, although I will say in the multiverse
- 28:47Speaker 1: movies that came out last year. It is. I prefer
- 28:50Speaker 1: much prefer it over Doctor Strange. I even prefer it
- 28:53Speaker 1: over that Spider Man movie that everyone loved, which I
- 28:56Speaker 1: also like. On reflection, don't think is as good as
- 29:00Speaker 1: you know we all said it was. Do you have
- 29:02Speaker 1: like favorite Oscar wins in history, whether it's like best
- 29:05Speaker 1: actress or best anything. No, I don't care about shit
- 29:08Speaker 1: like that, Okay, but I do love a Ladya Coleman
- 29:10Speaker 1: going Lady Gaga acceptance speech Lady Gaga because she was
- 29:15Speaker 1: so gooped um speaking of Gaga, her singing that musical
- 29:19Speaker 1: medley What year was that? Oh? From the Sound of Music?
- 29:22Speaker 1: So that was at the twenty fifteen Oscars. It was
- 29:27Speaker 1: a tribute to the Sound of Music. Julie Andrews came
- 29:30Speaker 1: out and it was It came at such a pivotal
- 29:33Speaker 1: moment in Gaga's career because she was It's like that
- 29:37Speaker 1: tweet about Christia Aguilera, she was at her lowest, fat, nasty,
- 29:41Speaker 1: and broke. Lady Gaga came on that Oscar stage mad
- 29:45Speaker 1: as hell because pre that she was in her flop
- 29:48Speaker 1: era post art pop she was she was doing American
- 29:52Speaker 1: Horror Story and then she came out and did that
- 29:55Speaker 1: Sound of Music medley, and it totally revitalized her and
- 30:01Speaker 1: recontextualized her, and it introduced a different version of her
- 30:06Speaker 1: because it was her proving her singing chops, her acting chops.
- 30:11Speaker 1: She tore that shit up. Recontextualized is the word. Like
- 30:15Speaker 1: she was like in case you forgot, I am a
- 30:18Speaker 1: rock star, but I'm also a star star. And I
- 30:22Speaker 1: think the star was born. And I don't think people
- 30:26Speaker 1: took her into consideration as a serious actress um let
- 30:29Speaker 1: alone someone who would show up at the Oscars and
- 30:32Speaker 1: take it seriously for lack of a better word, just
- 30:35Speaker 1: like because people underestimate Gaga write her off as this
- 30:38Speaker 1: like you know, shock value pop star at least your point,
- 30:42Speaker 1: You're so right, and that it is. It is a
- 30:44Speaker 1: thing that made specifically Hollywood people take her seriously. Ah
- 30:50Speaker 1: And I just remember being like, what the fuck? Like
- 30:53Speaker 1: she nailed. I think I cried. I'm pretty sure I cried. Honestly,
- 30:57Speaker 1: this is pretty This is kind of silly, but it
- 31:00Speaker 1: reminded me a lot of when Amy Adams did That's
- 31:03Speaker 1: how you know it? Did she do? Was that the
- 31:06Speaker 1: song that she did from Enchanted It reminded you of that.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It did because Amy, by that point like she had
- 31:13Speaker 1: been I think she was, she was already nominated for
- 31:15Speaker 1: an Oscar, but like she wasn't the star that she was,
- 31:18Speaker 1: and I think enchanted felt like a silly Disney movie.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And then she got up there and did I think
- 31:23Speaker 1: two musical numbers and nailed them, and I was like, oh,
- 31:27Speaker 1: Amy Adams is like way more than just an actress,
- 31:31Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like it felt pivotal for her,
- 31:33Speaker 1: and similarly to how it did Forgot. Have you ever
- 31:55Speaker 1: practiced a fake Oscar acceptance speech? Um? Not not practiced
- 32:02Speaker 1: out loud, No, but yeah, I constantly envisioned what my
- 32:05Speaker 1: Oscar speech would would be. Who would you think I
- 32:08Speaker 1: would not thank anybody. I would tweet my thanks out
- 32:11Speaker 1: after and they would spend my speech on a message
- 32:14Speaker 1: I'm sorry, that's who I am. I don't know, virgins,
- 32:18Speaker 1: if you could hear my eyes, I mean, I'll e
- 32:23Speaker 1: my words if I ever do, you know, get into
- 32:26Speaker 1: the Academy world. But like, because I know there's so
- 32:29Speaker 1: much diplomacy and politic around thanking people in speeches and
- 32:32Speaker 1: that it's something you really have to do. But like
- 32:35Speaker 1: I just think you have you know, it's an economy
- 32:38Speaker 1: of words, right, you have a limited amount of time.
- 32:40Speaker 1: I don't want to spend it rattling off like a
- 32:42Speaker 1: list of people. I'd much rather tweet that after and
- 32:44Speaker 1: spend you know, my time on this platform talking about
- 32:48Speaker 1: what I want to talk about and and and and
- 32:50Speaker 1: doing that in a way that wouldn't be like cloyingly
- 32:54Speaker 1: like like activisty, like it would be like sweet, and
- 32:58Speaker 1: it would talk about my life in the context of
- 33:01Speaker 1: who I am. And yeah, I think that's what I
- 33:03Speaker 1: would do. What do you what about you? You you've practiced?
- 33:05Speaker 1: I would sing the theme song from The Nanny and
- 33:08Speaker 1: then walk off stage and yeah, they would take out
- 33:18Speaker 1: one of those big canes. Yeah, like um, yeah, Jared
- 33:23Speaker 1: Letto pulls the cane out. Oh not Jared Letto, sorry,
- 33:27Speaker 1: he won't bring him up. He was the first transphobic
- 33:29Speaker 1: person I could think. Well, that's another thing with the oscars,
- 33:33Speaker 1: as you know, like the legacy of men who have
- 33:36Speaker 1: played trans women and one awards for doing so, which okay,
- 33:40Speaker 1: I mean we can talk about, but like not to
- 33:42Speaker 1: blow up your spot. Before we got onto the mic,
- 33:44Speaker 1: I did find out in real time that you did
- 33:47Speaker 1: not like When My Hair FANTASTICA No, I hated it.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Crazy to me, I'm so, I think it's a bad movie.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I okay, I I mean totally totally fair. I don't
- 33:58Speaker 1: think it's like a movie that like everyone is required
- 34:00Speaker 1: to like. I thought it was so incredible, and I
- 34:02Speaker 1: thought that you would like it because it's like moody,
- 34:05Speaker 1: weird and also like fabulous slash surrealist. And I thought
- 34:09Speaker 1: that surrealism would appeal to you. But um, you know
- 34:13Speaker 1: it's it's not. Everybody's teed. I love that movie though,
- 34:17Speaker 1: And a trans woman in a trans role, which is cool. Yeah,
- 34:20Speaker 1: it should have been Jared Letto, Eddie Redmain, Eddie Redmain
- 34:26Speaker 1: my sister. But Eddie has since then gone on the
- 34:29Speaker 1: record to say he regrets doing it, which is cool,
- 34:32Speaker 1: is it? I mean, it's better than it's like these guys.
- 34:35Speaker 1: These guys always say they regret it, but it's not
- 34:39Speaker 1: like they give their oscars back. Oh, it's very Danny.
- 34:41Speaker 1: It's very Darren Chris being like I will no longer
- 34:44Speaker 1: be playing anymore gay roles, and it's like, good for you, Um,
- 34:47Speaker 1: you've done this seventeen hundred times. Um. In terms of
- 34:52Speaker 1: like Oscar snubs. The first that come to mind are
- 34:56Speaker 1: Tony Collette for Hereditary, j Loo for hus Slurs, which
- 35:00Speaker 1: would be a career I think the non would be
- 35:03Speaker 1: a career win. Do I think she should win? No,
- 35:05Speaker 1: but she doesn't nomination because she should have been nominated
- 35:08Speaker 1: for Selena. Let's be real and so, and she's never
- 35:11Speaker 1: going to get nominated for an Oscar again. No, that's
- 35:14Speaker 1: the thing. It was her one shot. It also was
- 35:16Speaker 1: like the one Okay, this is mean, but like it's
- 35:19Speaker 1: like the one actually good movie she's been in in
- 35:22Speaker 1: ages like second act terrible. Um, I watched had Fun,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I watched Shotgun Wedding terrible, like we watched Marry Me terrible, Mary, Mary, Okay,
- 35:35Speaker 1: oh you enjoyed Marry Me? What was What was something
- 35:37Speaker 1: that you enjoyed specifically from that movie that it was
- 35:42Speaker 1: dumb and fun? I liked it. It was honestly if
- 35:45Speaker 1: I can't remember if we talked about this Virgins, but
- 35:47Speaker 1: we had a Gallantine's last year where we watched Rose.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I and Ash, our friend Ash watched Marry Me and
- 35:53Speaker 1: we were so stoked to watch it, and five minutes
- 35:57Speaker 1: in we were like, oh wow, this is bad like
- 36:02Speaker 1: good bad, and then we immediately we were exactly it
- 36:06Speaker 1: was exactly what I expected it to be. Dumb Jaylo romantic,
- 36:11Speaker 1: I thought it. I thought it at least hook me, though,
- 36:14Speaker 1: because dumb romcoms can still hook me and marry me.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Did not, I think because Owen Wilson made absolutely no
- 36:20Speaker 1: sense in that movie. I think Owen Wilson is super sexy.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I want to lick his nose. I do too, but
- 36:26Speaker 1: not for Jlo, Like why does why why does Jlo
- 36:29Speaker 1: have to fall in love with all of these kind
- 36:30Speaker 1: of like schleppy, mumblecore white guys, Like why can't she?
- 36:34Speaker 1: I mean I wanted her to stay with Maluma. Maybe
- 36:38Speaker 1: in the sequel. Yeah, maybe in the sequel. Um, okay,
- 36:40Speaker 1: sorry any any Oscar snobs that you're thinking of. No,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I don't care. I don't care who wins awards. It
- 36:47Speaker 1: doesn't matter, Yeah, it doesn't. It doesn't matter. I mean,
- 36:49Speaker 1: that's the thing that we're I know that's not an
- 36:51Speaker 1: interesting answer, but it's also not truly I truly could
- 36:55Speaker 1: care less. It's also obviously not an interesting take, right that,
- 36:58Speaker 1: Like you know, institution like don't matter, right, but it's
- 37:01Speaker 1: true like these like these norms like biggest snobs. It's
- 37:04Speaker 1: like the stars probably don't care, Like I'm sure they care,
- 37:07Speaker 1: but it's like depending on which one it is to me,
- 37:12Speaker 1: the wins are less to me, The winners are less
- 37:16Speaker 1: interesting than the Oscars industrial complex itself and just the
- 37:23Speaker 1: whole business around awards, movie awards, TV awards. I mean
- 37:30Speaker 1: this is as people who have been part of this
- 37:34Speaker 1: industry on both sides, as people in the media commenting
- 37:39Speaker 1: on it and then actually working in Hollywood, like you know,
- 37:44Speaker 1: both of us worked for one of the biggest movie
- 37:47Speaker 1: studios tech companies in the world, and so like have
- 37:52Speaker 1: been on both sides of it. And it just is
- 37:55Speaker 1: a machine that runs all day, every day, all or
- 38:00Speaker 1: like as soon as as soon as the Oscars are over,
- 38:03Speaker 1: we'll start prepping for you know what, the Emmys, which
- 38:07Speaker 1: will be in the fall. And it's just like the
- 38:08Speaker 1: next thing is just around the corner. It never stops.
- 38:11Speaker 1: It's exhausting and it is and it like, when you
- 38:15Speaker 1: stop to think about it, it's all just about money.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Like these awards exist so that these movies will be
- 38:21Speaker 1: seen by more people. It's not about the craft, it's
- 38:25Speaker 1: not about celebrating art. It's all capitalism. Like living in
- 38:30Speaker 1: LA when I lived there. All you see when you're
- 38:34Speaker 1: driving around or for your consideration, signs everywhere, like I mean,
- 38:39Speaker 1: oscar parties everywhere, like FYC, like you know, gatherings everywhere.
- 38:44Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, it just is. It's a machine that
- 38:47Speaker 1: never stops, and it's hard to be even somewhat close
- 38:53Speaker 1: to it and not feel incredibly jaded about it. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 1: and I think honestly, the Andrew Riceboro is that her name?
- 38:59Speaker 1: And yeah, that rice Boro stuff is like indicative of
- 39:01Speaker 1: the things that we're talking about. It's like oscar campaigners,
- 39:04Speaker 1: like press girlies, like people that work on awards season
- 39:09Speaker 1: year round. Are I mean, they're not evil, but they
- 39:15Speaker 1: possess the powers of the devil like they are, Like
- 39:18Speaker 1: they're braver than the Marines, but for evil. Yes, doing
- 39:22Speaker 1: lines of coke ten thirty am before they send out
- 39:24Speaker 1: their press releases. Actually no, not ten thirty What am
- 39:27Speaker 1: I saying? They're sending it out at six EVA. No
- 39:29Speaker 1: one works harder than pr glies and it's why they
- 39:34Speaker 1: are some of the most some of the best, but
- 39:37Speaker 1: also most insufferable people. Insufferable people on the planet. And
- 39:41Speaker 1: that's the only reason like the Andrew Riceboro stuff is
- 39:43Speaker 1: controversial is that all these Oscar campaigners that like spend
- 39:47Speaker 1: a ga jillion dollars doing these kind of like chicken
- 39:50Speaker 1: dinners about fucking green book or whatever, like you know,
- 39:54Speaker 1: also are like mad that someone who did a something
- 39:58Speaker 1: of a that's something that's being called a as roots
- 40:01Speaker 1: like Oscar campaign, but really is just famous people texting
- 40:05Speaker 1: each other and being like, hey, tweet about this, yes,
- 40:08Speaker 1: which is like it's a different mode of doing it. Yeah,
- 40:11Speaker 1: But like I it's it's just interesting, like the politic
- 40:14Speaker 1: and like what is allowed with an Oscar campaigning. Like
- 40:17Speaker 1: I honestly like would love to do a deep dive
- 40:19Speaker 1: episode with someone who really knows what it's like inside
- 40:23Speaker 1: the beast, like I would I would read the shit
- 40:26Speaker 1: out of an article about Award season. Okay, we have
- 40:29Speaker 1: to talk about the one part of Award shows that
- 40:32Speaker 1: I definitely make sure I know what's going on with,
- 40:36Speaker 1: which is the fashion the red carpets, which are kind
- 40:40Speaker 1: of always disappointing. I mean, you know, it's like Margot
- 40:44Speaker 1: Robbie wearing her millionth horrible Channel dress though apparently her
- 40:50Speaker 1: Chanel contract is ending soon. It's better before the Barbie
- 40:53Speaker 1: Press tour other because that is gonna she needs to slay. Yeah,
- 40:57Speaker 1: that slay and she has not she has not been slaying. Um.
- 41:02Speaker 1: You know. Some of my favorite Oscar outfits are obviously
- 41:06Speaker 1: the weird ones, like the York's Swan dress or Celine
- 41:09Speaker 1: Dion wearing the backwards suit, which I've seen some TikTok
- 41:12Speaker 1: fashion girlies recreating recently. There's a really maybe you should
- 41:16Speaker 1: wear your suit backwards to Sweeney Todd Oh, um, what
- 41:20Speaker 1: would you wear to the Oscars? Who would you wear?
- 41:22Speaker 1: And don't say something dumb. I was gonna say Prada, Prada,
- 41:27Speaker 1: Da Dada. I don't know, do you know already? Because yeah,
- 41:31Speaker 1: I would want to wear maybe archive muglaire oh archive
- 41:36Speaker 1: mcglare is really it's all about archival fashion. I would
- 41:39Speaker 1: love to wear, um, Richard Quinn like a head to
- 41:42Speaker 1: toe floral print or something like that, or do you
- 41:46Speaker 1: follow I'm bad bitch tongue tongue the tongue tongue dresses. Um,
- 41:50Speaker 1: It's like the he designs a lot of like um
- 41:54Speaker 1: a really structural like black span X, the outfits that
- 41:59Speaker 1: have who spilt into them, and like, uh, some of
- 42:03Speaker 1: these dresses look like Octopie and look like it's like
- 42:06Speaker 1: a very cool designer that also does like chic kind
- 42:09Speaker 1: of almost campy stuff. Um yeah, a tongue tongue dress
- 42:13Speaker 1: would be really sick. I would also maybe want to
- 42:15Speaker 1: serve a tux moment, but like a really a really
- 42:19Speaker 1: fem touch. Yeah, a little Jodie Foster oversize, or maybe
- 42:23Speaker 1: like a Kristen Stewart kind of Kristen Stewart's recent Chanelle
- 42:29Speaker 1: red carpet looks have been real bad. Damn she also
- 42:32Speaker 1: trapped into channel contract? Is damn her? We have deliberate
- 42:36Speaker 1: our sisters from these channel contracts. Remember the year that
- 42:41Speaker 1: Anne Hathaway and James franco host of the Oscars Oscar host?
- 42:45Speaker 1: Who's your dream Oscar host? Don't see RuPaul, Billy Porter?
- 42:50Speaker 1: Don't say Billy Porter, I'll kill you. RuPaul would be great.
- 42:54Speaker 1: RuPaul would be RuPaul actually would be. Yeah, he would
- 42:56Speaker 1: be really good. I mean there are some things that
- 42:59Speaker 1: wouldn't work about Rube, but but it'd be so like
- 43:02Speaker 1: explaining what what yas means like fifteen years too late,
- 43:06Speaker 1: Like that's what it would all be. It would be
- 43:08Speaker 1: him being like and we will fight for marriage equality.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Lets yeah, rock the vote. Yeah, I rock the vote.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Um wait, there was actually someone that I was thinking
- 43:18Speaker 1: of recently who I was like, you would be fucking phenomenal,
- 43:21Speaker 1: someone who really is a catch all. And it's not MICHAELA. Jay.
- 43:25Speaker 1: It was someone I'll think about. I mean to deliver,
- 43:28Speaker 1: deliver Deli, Amy Adams, Nicky Blonsky. Nicky Blonsky should host
- 43:37Speaker 1: the Oscars period. Hi, it's Nicky Blonsky from the movie
- 43:40Speaker 1: Hair Spray. I am, as we all know, rewatching Ugly
- 43:43Speaker 1: Betty and she has an amazing cameo in an episode
- 43:47Speaker 1: playing Betty's rival at el Magazine. She's like a foil
- 43:50Speaker 1: for I don't remember that. I mean, there's so many
- 43:53Speaker 1: good We'll talk about this in our upcoming Ugly Betty episode.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Yeah's with Mark and Delicato. But there Adele had a
- 44:00Speaker 1: emeo like Lindsay Lohan, Lindsay Lohan, Christine Baranski, like it was,
- 44:05Speaker 1: it's just so much, so many. Vanessa Williams should host
- 44:08Speaker 1: the Oscars. That would be major, That would be so good.
- 44:12Speaker 1: A songstress like that, like a classic songstress who knows
- 44:16Speaker 1: how to host, would be phenomenal, which is Ellen should
- 44:19Speaker 1: just host the Oscars again. Ellen did an amazing job.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Ellen dead. Yeah, we really have no way of knowing roasts.
- 44:28Speaker 1: We really, we really don't know. We don't know. Um,
- 44:31Speaker 1: but yeah, no, I think that a lot of Ellen
- 44:33Speaker 1: should host and get slapped. Ellen. Every every Oscars host
- 44:37Speaker 1: from me from now on should get slapped. Who's hosting
- 44:41Speaker 1: this year? Is it? Is it a team of people?
- 44:43Speaker 1: I don't know, literally do not know, Not that it matters,
- 44:46Speaker 1: but I, um, if it feels like they're keeping that
- 44:48Speaker 1: information quiet, yeah, because for there for that person's own safety. Uh,
- 44:55Speaker 1: it's gonna be Jimmy Kimmel. Oh easy, he's fine. Um,
- 44:59Speaker 1: someone can still slap him though, that's the Yeah, someone
- 45:01Speaker 1: can still slap him. I mean he'll make Ellen can
- 45:03Speaker 1: slap him. Yes, Ellen will slap him. Um. Yeah, he's
- 45:06Speaker 1: definitely gonna there's Oh, it's gonna be so annoying. There's
- 45:09Speaker 1: gonna be so many jokes about the slap. Yeah, that's
- 45:12Speaker 1: gonna be real, especially from Jimmy Kimmel. Like it's gonna
- 45:15Speaker 1: be really annoying. How I mean, like, of course they
- 45:18Speaker 1: don't want to get into the slap discourse, but just
- 45:21Speaker 1: oh it sucks that that that we're stuck with that forever. Yeah.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I mean it's the most controversial thing that's ever happened
- 45:27Speaker 1: at the Oscars. So you know, maybe ever on live
- 45:31Speaker 1: TV asipher maybe Janet Janet's booth. Yeah yeah, yeah, that's
- 45:37Speaker 1: kind of crazy to think Janet should slap Jimmy Kimmel
- 45:39Speaker 1: that now, that is the take. Um, Janet should host
- 45:43Speaker 1: the Oscars. Janet should host the Oscars. She should get
- 45:46Speaker 1: up there and just be like she's just like just
- 45:52Speaker 1: above a whisper the whole time, the whole time, the
- 45:56Speaker 1: whole time. Missus dow Fire should have watched that secture.
