- 0:41Speaker 1: Come on, I'm here, Hey, Viking fans, Welcome to another
- 0:50Speaker 1: episode of the Tailgate, brought to you by Ticketmaster, the
- 0:53Speaker 1: official ticket marketplace for the Minnesota Vikings. It's me Cy,
- 0:56Speaker 1: your host.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Uh.
- 0:58Speaker 1: We're coming off a rough one folks. Your favorite team
- 1:01Speaker 1: is one and one, and we go into week three
- 1:04Speaker 1: facing a team from a city who calls spaghetti chili
- 1:08Speaker 1: and whose most popular bank is named after an improper fraction.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, the Cincinnati Bengals are coming to town
- 1:15Speaker 1: and joining me to talk everything about the city and
- 1:19Speaker 1: the team is the one, the only Chad Daniels.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Hi, everybody, how are you? It's one in two thirds,
- 1:27Speaker 2: It's what the bank should be. Why would you give
- 1:29Speaker 2: your money to somebody who can't break that and do
- 1:32Speaker 2: that math? BurrH. I'm excited. I'm gonna tell you something.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I'm excited for the game, and I'm excited that we
- 1:38Speaker 2: don't recap games on this podcast.
- 1:41Speaker 1: What a wonderful thing for us that we're always looking forward,
- 1:45Speaker 1: because I think, yeah, that's right, we're this sort of guys.
- 1:48Speaker 1: If you let us recap, uh, oh, we got it.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Hey, brother, there's a reason that the windshield is bigger
- 1:56Speaker 2: than the rearview mirror.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You feel me.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We got to look forward.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's what we do here on I love that, actually.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I mean, I know you did it in a hillbilly voice,
- 2:03Speaker 1: but I love it. Normally, normally we do the thing
- 2:06Speaker 1: where we kind of dive into both sides of what
- 2:09Speaker 1: we like and dislike about it. But I tell you,
- 2:11Speaker 1: I live in Cincinnati. We have a ton of friends
- 2:14Speaker 1: in Cincinnati. We love the city, we love the comedy there.
- 2:18Speaker 1: And because their team is a tortured like they, I
- 2:24Speaker 1: identify with them as it. There's not many organizations that
- 2:27Speaker 1: you can really look at them and go, man, you
- 2:29Speaker 1: just you've got that same Charlie Brown vibe, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: getting the football pulled out from you in the fan base.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So I like, yeah, I'm gonna have a hard time
- 2:40Speaker 1: saying anything negative about the Bengals or their fans.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, it's interesting because when you're a Vikings fan, you go,
- 2:48Speaker 2: you know, what, this happened. Bad things happen to us,
- 2:52Speaker 2: and then when we watch the Bengals, we go, they
- 2:54Speaker 2: did it to themselves. It's a different attitude for the
- 2:57Speaker 2: same situation. My girlfriend and said, we have a lot
- 3:01Speaker 2: of friends in Cincinnati, how do you cheer for? And
- 3:03Speaker 2: you go, I'm not going to listen to that, no,
- 3:06Speaker 2: because we cheer just as hard and we make fun
- 3:08Speaker 2: of them just as hard when we beat them.
- 3:09Speaker 1: That's absolutely correct. There is a really like when I
- 3:14Speaker 1: first moved here and you start meeting a lot of
- 3:16Speaker 1: Bengals fans, one of the first things you learn is
- 3:18Speaker 1: that they were one of, if not the, but one
- 3:22Speaker 1: of the last teams in the NFL to get an
- 3:25Speaker 1: actual website. And so yeah, of course, and the standard
- 3:30Speaker 1: joke and it's a dad joke, but it, dude, it
- 3:34Speaker 1: rocks everybody goes yes, because we had a hard time
- 3:37Speaker 1: stringing three w's together. God dang, that's a.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Good Oh, that is a really good joke. I think
- 3:43Speaker 2: it is actually because it's harder to type on a
- 3:47Speaker 2: keyboard when you have blisters from playing the banjo. They're
- 3:50Speaker 2: so close to Kentucky. The airport is in Kentucky. They
- 3:55Speaker 2: call it Cincinnati, and it's in a different state, dude.
- 4:00Speaker 1: There is a so most of what they call Cincinnati,
- 4:05Speaker 1: the city, like a good portion of it is right
- 4:07Speaker 1: across the river in Kentucky. And so there's all these
- 4:09Speaker 1: little cities over there, and one of them is Florence. Okay, Florence, Kentucky.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And uh so they were going to build a mall
- 4:16Speaker 1: in Florence and it was going to be called the
- 4:18Speaker 1: Florence Mall. And so there was a water tower and
- 4:22Speaker 1: they were gonna and I like, this is the funniest
- 4:25Speaker 1: Kentucky thing of all time, Like, how do we promote
- 4:27Speaker 1: our new mall? Well, somebody painted on the water tower
- 4:32Speaker 1: so you can see there's a mall here from water tower. Hat.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So the plan was to go up and literally write
- 4:41Speaker 1: Florence Mall on the water tower. But because it was finished,
- 4:46Speaker 1: the water tower before the actual mall, Florence was told
- 4:50Speaker 1: they couldn't use the water tower to advertise something that
- 4:53Speaker 1: wasn't actually there, and then repainting the whole thing became
- 4:57Speaker 1: too expensive, so they just replaced the M with a Y,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and now it just says Florence y'all. I think their
- 5:09Speaker 1: minor league baseball team is called the Florence y'alls. It's
- 5:12Speaker 1: it's really.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Oh, that's fantastic. I Uh. One thing that I've never
- 5:16Speaker 2: understood about Cincinnati is like, you know, Las Vegas, they go, hey, guys,
- 5:21Speaker 2: we're gonna be Sin City, and they took that name,
- 5:25Speaker 2: and now because of it, it's just like whatever happens
- 5:27Speaker 2: here stays here. There are two Sins in Cincinnati, and
- 5:31Speaker 2: nobody thought, should we do it? There's two of them.
- 5:37Speaker 1: When I started looking like because I look into the
- 5:39Speaker 1: teams a little bit before we do this show, and
- 5:42Speaker 1: I was like, traveling down that tortured fan base path. Man,
- 5:46Speaker 1: they've got an all time one. So in nineteen seventy six,
- 5:50Speaker 1: Bengals founder Paul Brown he retires as head coach. Okay,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and he's got to appoint a successor, so he chooses
- 6:00Speaker 1: long time assistant coach Bill Johnson, who it makes sense
- 6:04Speaker 1: you give him the job. His nickname was Tiger, who
- 6:07Speaker 1: you want to run the Bengals, Brother, You won't Tagger
- 6:10Speaker 1: to run the Bengals. So he gives him that job, right,
- 6:14Speaker 1: But the offensive coordinator and the guy he passes over
- 6:18Speaker 1: is Bill Walsh, like the greatest innovator of offense in
- 6:25Speaker 1: professional football. Old Tiger goes eighteen and fifteen and is
- 6:30Speaker 1: fired after an zero to five start to year three,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and Walsh just pipes trophies with Montana and Young for dude,
- 6:38Speaker 1: that's like, there's that. I think the story is that
- 6:41Speaker 1: John Wooden was on his way to interview for the
- 6:44Speaker 1: Gophers and there was a snowstorm, so he went to
- 6:46Speaker 1: interview for UCLA first and they're like, you're hired. That's
- 6:51Speaker 1: that times a thousand you had him on your staff.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's one thing where Bill Tiger Johnson goes up
- 6:58Speaker 2: and sees all the Bill Walsh's stuff and he goes, yeah,
- 7:00Speaker 2: but you see these trophies. His name still isn't Tiger.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I will say like, there are good moments
- 7:10Speaker 1: and bad moments from Bengal history that are very interesting
- 7:13Speaker 1: to me and worth talking about. I mean, you're you
- 7:16Speaker 1: were a young white rapper, so we should start with
- 7:19Speaker 1: the Ikey shuffle.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I mean question who didn't in my generation? I ask you,
- 7:25Speaker 2: who didn't cross a goal line where the pylons were
- 7:29Speaker 2: made of hoodies out in somebody's backyard and do the
- 7:33Speaker 2: Ikey shove? Please forget it.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question. So, Ikey Woods, they
- 7:37Speaker 1: go to the super Bowl that year, right, he runs
- 7:40Speaker 1: for one thousand, sixty six yards I think fifteen touchdowns,
- 7:43Speaker 1: he wins Rookie of the Year. How many yards did
- 7:47Speaker 1: Ikey Woods end up rushing? Four in his.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Career one thousand and sixty seven.
- 7:53Speaker 1: There was one thousand and five and twenty five all
- 7:58Speaker 1: time one hit. Wonder that guy, you had such a
- 8:00Speaker 1: good rookie year that you have a dance that we
- 8:03Speaker 1: are talking about decades later, and you only ran for
- 8:06Speaker 1: another four hundred and forty nine yards fifty nine yards
- 8:10Speaker 1: the rest of your life and we're still talking about
- 8:12Speaker 1: the Ikey shuffle. Iowa also say, uh Boomer assiasin we've
- 8:18Speaker 1: talked about nicknames. A couple of weeks ago. Man for
- 8:21Speaker 1: a guy named Norman Julius. That's his name. Norman Julius Asiasin,
- 8:27Speaker 1: and you'd think it's because he could rip the football.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It's not. His mom called him that because of how
- 8:32Speaker 1: hard he kicked in the womb. Yeah, yeah, he just
- 8:35Speaker 1: I think their literal quote was something like he's always
- 8:39Speaker 1: booming me in there, which sounds like somebody who's gonna
- 8:42Speaker 1: wind up a quarterback in the Cincinnati, Kentucky area. I
- 8:45Speaker 1: love dude. I love Boomer Assiasin. That's a home run nickname.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Yeah. So you you remember the show Opie and Anthony, right,
- 8:54Speaker 2: and Anthony is this guy. He's got a lot of opinions.
- 8:57Speaker 2: He's the toughest guy you've ever heard of. And Opie
- 9:02Speaker 2: and Anthony they'd always go do all these pranks and
- 9:04Speaker 2: everything was funny. Nobody was off limits. And then one
- 9:07Speaker 2: day Anthony broke down and told a story about how
- 9:11Speaker 2: all of his problems into adulthood stem from Boomer Assiasin
- 9:16Speaker 2: bullying him in school. So I'm gonna tell you that's
- 9:23Speaker 2: why I like Boomer Assiasin. This has nothing to do
- 9:26Speaker 2: with football. This has to do with pre bullying a
- 9:30Speaker 2: bully man.
- 9:32Speaker 1: The when you're down here, like when we move down here.
- 9:35Speaker 1: As a Viking fan, it's that nice thing where I
- 9:38Speaker 1: just hold too many football grudges and but there isn't
- 9:42Speaker 1: I think when you haven't won something major and for
- 9:45Speaker 1: a really long time. You're talking Cleveland, Brown's the Cubs
- 9:48Speaker 1: before they did, right. You can't say the the Red
- 9:51Speaker 1: Sox because you know they had the rest of the
- 9:53Speaker 1: stuff going on in Boston. But you know a few
- 9:56Speaker 1: of these franchises, like there's just a almost a camaraderie
- 10:01Speaker 1: and an understanding where you kind of just inherently are like,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I'm cool with you. We don't have to. But but
- 10:07Speaker 1: the way the other thing that is a lot like
- 10:09Speaker 1: Minnesota about Cincinnati is and it is everywhere that like tribalism,
- 10:13Speaker 1: you know, like Mott pal is better than your town brother. Sure, Florence, y'all,
- 10:17Speaker 1: why don't you walk at home? But they the Cleveland
- 10:22Speaker 1: rivalry is it's very Green Bay ish. Where we're all
- 10:28Speaker 1: sitting here. We have a lot to say about the personalities,
- 10:31Speaker 1: appearance and activities of people who live in Wisconsin. You
- 10:36Speaker 1: just duplicate it. There's this all time moment in Bengals history.
- 10:40Speaker 1: It's like nineteen eighty nine. I think they're playing the
- 10:43Speaker 1: Seattle Seahawks, and an official made of call that the
- 10:47Speaker 1: fans did not care for. Seahawks are I think they're
- 10:51Speaker 1: backed up against their own end zone and the fans
- 10:54Speaker 1: it's it's December. So they start balling up snowballs and
- 10:59Speaker 1: heaving them onto the field, and the Seahawks are like, dude,
- 11:02Speaker 1: we're not doing it, We're not playing with you throwing
- 11:05Speaker 1: stuff at it. So they will and the officials have
- 11:07Speaker 1: to pause the game. And I love I love the moments.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I don't care if it's high school call when a
- 11:17Speaker 1: coach when they have to hand him the PA system
- 11:20Speaker 1: and be like, coach, can you please get a hold
- 11:23Speaker 1: of these people? It's so good. So they hand the
- 11:26Speaker 1: coach at the time Sam White or White. That's how
- 11:30Speaker 1: unimportant they've been, is they have been? Is? I don't
- 11:33Speaker 1: know how to pronounce this guy's name. Uh. He gets
- 11:37Speaker 1: the microphone and to the whole stadium he goes, will
- 11:40Speaker 1: the next person that sees anybody throw anything onto the
- 11:43Speaker 1: field point them out and get them out of here.
- 11:47Speaker 1: You don't live in Cleveland, you live in Cincinnati. The
- 11:53Speaker 1: place the erupts. Imagine just being in like Grand Rapids,
- 11:56Speaker 1: like it's yeah, you guys are pretty much. It's very similar.
- 12:00Speaker 1: But yeah, that's an all time moment.
- 12:02Speaker 2: That is like that is like a dad just going like, hey,
- 12:05Speaker 2: you're acting like your brother right now, knock it off.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Like I remember that as a kid. I don't, and
- 12:11Speaker 1: I do feel that against Packer, like the state of
- 12:14Speaker 1: Wisconsin and I don't. It's so funny because when you
- 12:18Speaker 1: cut the top half of both states off, you could
- 12:21Speaker 1: just drive across them and it's nearly indistinguishable.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I've always said without professional football, it's the same.
- 12:28Speaker 1: State pretty similar. I think there's a cholesterol difference due
- 12:32Speaker 1: to a cheese product. Like somehow we were like our
- 12:35Speaker 1: state was like, we'll make milk, you make cheese. I
- 12:39Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know how we decided that, but
- 12:43Speaker 1: we there's there's certainly a heart clog issue there.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I think we were like, hey, come get all moldy milk. Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 2: you can have our moldy milk.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Speaking of the Packers, probably the greatest on field moment.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And I know we're not supposed to glorify streakers or
- 12:59Speaker 1: pe people who break onto the field, sure, but there
- 13:02Speaker 1: was a guy I'm not sure what year it was,
- 13:05Speaker 1: but the Bengals were like five and two. It was
- 13:08Speaker 1: like their best start in a decade and a half,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and they were playing the Green Bay Packers and they
- 13:13Speaker 1: were up like two or three touchdowns, and all of
- 13:15Speaker 1: a sudden, the Packers start coming back. The next thing
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know, they're only down a touchdown. Brett Farv's the quarterback.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You know, he's bringing him down the field like from
- 13:26Speaker 1: his own five yard line, like twenty seven yard past
- 13:28Speaker 1: seventeen yard pass another similar story, another bad call, and
- 13:34Speaker 1: he's right in that position where you're like, oh, this
- 13:36Speaker 1: is the part where Farv throws a touchdown and Cement's
- 13:40Speaker 1: kind of that.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Guy pass interference call, passing reference call.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Yeah, probably, I would assume so, given.
- 13:44Speaker 2: What Okay, because I remember I remember the Packers at
- 13:47Speaker 2: that in that era getting past interference calls when the
- 13:50Speaker 2: defense was on there.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And by that era, you mean from the moment Brett
- 13:54Speaker 1: Farv took a snap until the moment Aaron Rodgers was
- 13:57Speaker 1: traded to the Jets.
- 13:58Speaker 2: It's very fun to watch Packer fans complain about calls
- 14:03Speaker 2: and haven't seen a realistically called football game in fifteen years.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy. I've always said, it's like, uh, Packer
- 14:10Speaker 1: fans are a lot like that. The richest kid in
- 14:12Speaker 1: your school who doesn't understand that, Like, if you mess
- 14:16Speaker 1: up your Honda, you're gonna have to work for a
- 14:19Speaker 1: while to get your new Honda. And if he crashes
- 14:21Speaker 1: his Maserati, he shows up the next game, he's like,
- 14:23Speaker 1: look at it, it's a Bentley, right, where's your Bentley? Right?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Gets a flat tire in his Bentley. He's like, where's
- 14:29Speaker 1: your where's your tire? Butler? God, my tire Butler's late.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'm always getting screwed by my tire Butler. That's that's
- 14:36Speaker 1: what the vibe is. But so far it's he's about
- 14:39Speaker 1: to drop back, and you just have that vibe that
- 14:41Speaker 1: he's gonna mm hm bam. He's just gonna make he's
- 14:44Speaker 1: gonna make the throw. Because he drops back, this fan
- 14:47Speaker 1: breaks onto the field and literally plucks the ball out
- 14:50Speaker 1: of his hands. Terrifying, right, if you're a football player,
- 14:53Speaker 1: all of a sudden, there's a human from the audience
- 14:56Speaker 1: on like, so he plucks the ball from his hands
- 14:59Speaker 1: and he just jets splits two dudes, like almost like
- 15:03Speaker 1: a movie where the two security guys dive at him
- 15:06Speaker 1: and crash into one another like angels in the outfield
- 15:10Speaker 1: almost and then he gets absolutely plowed by a security
- 15:15Speaker 1: guy as he's almost getting off the field. Man, it
- 15:19Speaker 1: is a I know, we don't promote those videos. They
- 15:22Speaker 1: don't even show it on TV anymore, right, yeah, exactly,
- 15:25Speaker 1: But it's to Kevin Harlan had that great call on
- 15:28Speaker 1: the radio where he called the streaker on the field.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I would have loved to have seen him call this
- 15:33Speaker 1: far one.
- 15:34Speaker 2: If I was the coach of the Bengals, I just
- 15:36Speaker 2: would have been like, on the phone, immediately, get this
- 15:39Speaker 2: guy a one dollar contract for the day he's on
- 15:43Speaker 2: our team. That's a turnover.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah. I'm surprised that the city of Cincinnati
- 15:49Speaker 1: didn't invincible him, that they didn't vince Papoli. And it's
- 15:54Speaker 1: funny I read an article on him in the New
- 15:56Speaker 1: York Times that was like thirty years later. The guy
- 16:00Speaker 1: who did it reflect You're like, man, you got it.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Must slow news day. If you're doing, if you're doing
- 16:06Speaker 1: a verbal history of the time a guy jumped on
- 16:09Speaker 1: the field and stole the ball from Brett Fahv.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, that's tough. I went down to watch the Vikings
- 16:16Speaker 2: play in Cincinnati, and as you know, there are all
- 16:20Speaker 2: these foot bridges. There's bridges going from Cincinnati over to
- 16:24Speaker 2: Kentucky back and forth, a lot of bridges over the river.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So my friend Marshall and I were on a bridge
- 16:31Speaker 2: and we could we weren't at the game yet, we
- 16:33Speaker 2: could see the JumboTron for the starting lineups and the
- 16:37Speaker 2: national anthem started and we were like, this is this
- 16:39Speaker 2: is so awesome to watch them right here. And then
- 16:42Speaker 2: I don't know why. I don't know exactly what was
- 16:45Speaker 2: going on, but the blue angels flew over. I don't
- 16:49Speaker 2: know if you've ever had the blue angels fly right
- 16:52Speaker 2: over your head. It is so terrifying. Everything starts to
- 16:57Speaker 2: shake in your body and you don't know why. And
- 17:00Speaker 2: the bridge started moving a little bit. We were like,
- 17:02Speaker 2: what's happening. A bunch of people dove down to the ground.
- 17:06Speaker 2: It was it was awesome to be able to feel
- 17:09Speaker 2: that fear but not be in any real danger. I
- 17:13Speaker 2: really appreciated that.
- 17:14Speaker 1: What when when was that? What was that a recent
- 17:16Speaker 1: game or was this way back? Ye?
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, this is from twenty probably twenty years ago.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Okay, so you you came to a game in Cincinnati
- 17:25Speaker 1: years ago? Okay, I the first time I moved down here.
- 17:29Speaker 1: That was the year that the Dalvin Cook fumble game, Yeah,
- 17:33Speaker 1: in overtime, when when we all thought we were walking
- 17:36Speaker 1: in to beat a Cincinnati team that was the same
- 17:38Speaker 1: Cincinnati team that it had been for decades, and that
- 17:41Speaker 1: year ended with them in the Super Bowl. So we
- 17:43Speaker 1: all felt really bad about that loss. But it's in
- 17:47Speaker 1: the in the matchup between the two teams. I think
- 17:51Speaker 1: the home team has won fourteen of the last fifteen matchups.
- 17:54Speaker 1: First game was nineteen seventy three. That includes, in addition
- 17:59Speaker 1: to that fumble game and the Blue Angel game that
- 18:02Speaker 1: you were at, a thumping by the Vikings probably the
- 18:06Speaker 1: biggest winning the series of forty two to seven and
- 18:08Speaker 1: ninety two and the Bengals. And this is what my
- 18:11Speaker 1: friends talk about this one a lot down here are
- 18:13Speaker 1: friends the win and in playoff opportunity on Christmas Night
- 18:19Speaker 1: against the Vikings in nineteen eighty nine, just our team.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You know, you never think about, like you have all
- 18:26Speaker 1: your sports trauma, like the mist kick, you know, all
- 18:30Speaker 1: the things that went wrong. You don't necessarily realize what
- 18:34Speaker 1: you put on others. They're that game ruined Christmas for
- 18:40Speaker 1: people we know and care about.
- 18:44Speaker 2: We know a lot of comedians that talk about their
- 18:46Speaker 2: parents being divorced in Cincinnati, and I feel like that
- 18:49Speaker 2: caused fifty percent of them.
- 18:50Speaker 1: It played a role. Also, this is a big memorabilia city, man.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I know everybody wears memorabilia everywhere, but the amount of
- 18:59Speaker 1: out fits that you can't go out on Sunday with,
- 19:03Speaker 1: Like the guy has an outfit, the wife has an outfit,
- 19:06Speaker 1: the kid has an outfit, the baby has an outfit,
- 19:08Speaker 1: the dog has an outfit, and the kid's baby doll
- 19:11Speaker 1: that also has its own dog, they both have outfits
- 19:14Speaker 1: like they are. The amount of merch purchased in the city.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You think, as a comedian, you'd sell more merch here
- 19:19Speaker 1: just due to the branding that these people are into.
- 19:22Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Well, it's probably you don't sell more merch there because
- 19:25Speaker 2: you're stuck in a hallway that's also the entrance to
- 19:27Speaker 2: the club. So there's a lot of confusion going on.
- 19:30Speaker 1: But that'll hit home for six people.
- 19:33Speaker 2: We have a friend who has a company there with
- 19:37Speaker 2: all the memorabilia, who bought up a lot of the
- 19:41Speaker 2: rights to a lot of teams and stuff, and so
- 19:43Speaker 2: you know, he rarely does comedy anymore because of the
- 19:47Speaker 2: memorabilia game going on in Cincinnati.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Yeah, he's the merch king of Cincinnati, no question. Well,
- 19:56Speaker 1: there's a lot of injuries, Chad, and I don't I
- 19:59Speaker 1: don't think you and I are qualified to discuss them
- 20:03Speaker 1: or when they're coming back. I think all I know
- 20:06Speaker 1: is I don't like watching a backup quarterback. But I'll
- 20:08Speaker 1: tell you what, I kind of like two backup quarterbacks.
- 20:14Speaker 1: If we're gonna get one. Let's get the fact that
- 20:16Speaker 1: this is Jake Browning versus Carson Wentz. Yeah, it's interesting
- 20:20Speaker 1: to me. Jake Browning he crushed us a couple of
- 20:22Speaker 1: years ago. I think I argue that he's one of
- 20:25Speaker 1: the better, if not best, backups in the NFL. And
- 20:29Speaker 1: I am, dude, I'm very curious on this Carson Wentz thing.
- 20:33Speaker 1: You can if he goes out and he plays well
- 20:36Speaker 1: where you and I are from close to the North
- 20:39Speaker 1: Dakota border, if he goes out, and imagine he goes
- 20:43Speaker 1: out and plays well and throws a big touchdown to
- 20:47Speaker 1: Adam Thielen, I think they're gonna have to shut down
- 20:50Speaker 1: the schools and name it a national holiday. From where
- 20:54Speaker 1: we live ninety four up to Fargo, they're just gonna
- 20:56Speaker 1: have to shut the whole area down. People are gonna
- 20:58Speaker 1: lose it.
- 20:58Speaker 2: They're gonna have open eye outs for people like you
- 21:02Speaker 2: and I from Minnesota, like we're gonna make a.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Whole team of us, and we're gonna do this the
- 21:07Speaker 1: Carson Wentz thing, like, objectively speaking, whether he was on
- 21:11Speaker 1: our team or not, the pride the North Dakota State
- 21:16Speaker 1: people who because that team was so unique and how
- 21:19Speaker 1: good they were and how many titles they were, and
- 21:21Speaker 1: then he was kind of the crown prince and he
- 21:23Speaker 1: first got to get drafted like that, and he has
- 21:25Speaker 1: a really good rookie year and on and on. I
- 21:28Speaker 1: mean there, you would have a better time convincing someone
- 21:33Speaker 1: water was sand right then that Carson Wentz shouldn't be
- 21:38Speaker 1: the guy every step of the way. So I there's
- 21:41Speaker 1: gonna be some because it's a home game, right, there's
- 21:43Speaker 1: gonna be some North Dakota State like belligerent heat in
- 21:48Speaker 1: that stadium. You're gonna be there, right, I think you're
- 21:51Speaker 1: gonna feel an interesting vibe when that dude, Like, there's
- 21:55Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of sixty year old farmers are like, finally, right, oddly,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I know it like, you're gonna get a lot of
- 22:03Speaker 1: that in that stadium.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna be able to feel an energy of paying
- 22:07Speaker 2: less taxes but using another state stuff. It's gonna feel great.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I can't wait for it. Here's the thing. The only
- 22:14Speaker 2: thing that worries me about Carson Wentz is that if
- 22:17Speaker 2: he goes back to his North Dakota roots and like, hey,
- 22:20Speaker 2: I played high school ball and all this stuff, and
- 22:22Speaker 2: you go, yeah, but there's two more guys out there
- 22:24Speaker 2: with you this time, Carson, this isn't nine man football anymore.
- 22:28Speaker 2: You got two more guys to throw it too. So
- 22:30Speaker 2: I'm excited to watch a lot of opportunities.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I think. I think here's my prediction. Well, I also
- 22:36Speaker 1: like that it's interesting because these aren't backups with you know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: like I said, we have a lot of injury options.
- 22:41Speaker 1: But like they're throwing to the two best receivers in
- 22:45Speaker 1: the game, and one of them gets Justin Jefferson, the
- 22:47Speaker 1: other one gets Jamar Chase. That's a pretty wild backup matchup.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I think you remember Lynn sanity. I have to tell you,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I think if he goes out and plays well, who
- 23:01Speaker 1: whens Mania is gonna run pretty wild. Like if he
- 23:04Speaker 1: goes out and he puts something like outrageous up like
- 23:08Speaker 1: a three eighty or a three fifty, three eighty and
- 23:10Speaker 1: three or four touchdowns. Man, you're gonna you're gonna have
- 23:14Speaker 1: a vibe throughout the state that will be something we
- 23:17Speaker 1: haven't felt before.
- 23:19Speaker 2: I will tell you this. I have a friend that
- 23:20Speaker 2: lives in Fargo, and someday night he sent me a
- 23:23Speaker 2: picture of his Vikings Carson Wentz jersey that was on
- 23:27Speaker 2: his body, so he already has it. He's and it
- 23:31Speaker 2: just said, So you're telling me there's a chance, that's
- 23:34Speaker 2: all it's said.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Well, I think it is a good part in the schedule,
- 23:39Speaker 1: if there were ever a good part to be struggling
- 23:41Speaker 1: with injuries, et cetera, et cetera. Like you've got the
- 23:45Speaker 1: world champion and a bunch of other world can and
- 23:47Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not besmirching the Bengals without Joe Joe Burrow.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I think you have an opportunity here, especially because you're overseas.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Like if Wentz can go in and play, well, let's
- 23:58Speaker 1: just stack a couple of w's, right, Yeah, let's let's
- 24:00Speaker 1: do what this websiteless city could never do. And let's
- 24:05Speaker 1: let's put three ws on top of one another, and
- 24:08Speaker 1: then let's let's get into that buy. Let's make sure
- 24:11Speaker 1: Darra saw Addison. Let's get this whole group back. Yeah,
- 24:14Speaker 1: and then we really see It's almost like we can
- 24:17Speaker 1: restart our expectations. You can't. I mean, you before in
- 24:20Speaker 1: one and I will focus on one game, but you
- 24:22Speaker 1: before in one and you can kind of restart your expectations.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I think.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Also cam Akers back on the team. Cam Akers or
- 24:31Speaker 1: who I love, who I think is fantastic. I'd like,
- 24:35Speaker 1: very dynamic, and I I love the idea as someone
- 24:40Speaker 1: who was in a relationship that went really long and
- 24:43Speaker 1: was off and on constantly. Man, I just love that
- 24:47Speaker 1: he's always willing to come back as somebody who as
- 24:51Speaker 1: somebody who wouldn't be married if the other person didn't
- 24:55Speaker 1: come back a bunch of times. Man, I'm a big
- 24:59Speaker 1: cam Oh came every time we need them, here comes
- 25:03Speaker 1: cam Akers to step right into the offense. Also, that
- 25:06Speaker 1: is Ah, you don't see a lot of that where
- 25:09Speaker 1: a guy who's so familiar with a coach and so capable,
- 25:12Speaker 1: not that they don't come back, but that they're available.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Like it's just timed up so uniquely.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Every time I think we're looking sharp, I think, you know,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I have my predictions locked and loaded. I have a
- 25:24Speaker 2: couple of them feeling good about it. And Cincinnati, it's
- 25:27Speaker 2: gonna be nice because we won't play them every year,
- 25:31Speaker 2: and so this means when we win this game, we
- 25:34Speaker 2: will have years to talk crap.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it'll be also nice to not have a primetime game.
- 25:40Speaker 1: It's kind of like you go to a birthday party
- 25:42Speaker 1: where you can't make an idiot yourself because it's your
- 25:45Speaker 1: wife's family on Friday, and then you go to a
- 25:47Speaker 1: wedding with your mom's side of the family and they
- 25:50Speaker 1: don't think you're very mature, so you got to wear
- 25:52Speaker 1: a shirt that everybody's gonna like and not say anything.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You really think about the world the whole time you're there,
- 25:58Speaker 1: and so Sunday you finally just put your sweat pants
- 26:00Speaker 1: on and you're like, this is a bat like noon
- 26:03Speaker 1: noon game at us Bank. Everybody, take a breath. Let's
- 26:08Speaker 1: just we don't have the whole world on top of us.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Let's just let's just go out and throttle a team. Yeah,
- 26:14Speaker 1: without the whole world on top.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Of it and his fans. I'm excited. I'm excited to
- 26:18Speaker 2: go to the game when people are still alert enough,
- 26:20Speaker 2: the coffee is still working where they won't run into
- 26:23Speaker 2: your car as you're sitting at a stoplay. That's what
- 26:25Speaker 2: I'm excited for you.
- 26:27Speaker 1: If you like this show is just becoming kind of
- 26:31Speaker 1: like a docu series on how poorly a person can watch.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Because we're two weeks in. Week one, your internet goes down,
- 26:40Speaker 1: your phone surface is spotty, so you have to watch
- 26:43Speaker 1: a game poorly on your cellphone. Week two opener at
- 26:46Speaker 1: the bank, Chad's got his gal. They're going down. Whamo,
- 26:50Speaker 1: A dude runs right into him, rear ends him, and
- 26:53Speaker 1: causes all sorts of problems. So, I mean, who knows?
- 26:58Speaker 1: Who knows what's next on this list?
- 27:00Speaker 2: I'll tell you a fun game watching two backup quarterbacks
- 27:05Speaker 2: earning their spot. Vikes win by sixty.
- 27:10Speaker 1: My guess was Chad gets on the field in an
- 27:13Speaker 1: important third down conversion and steals the ball from Jake Browning.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Well, here's the problem. I could not ever run in
- 27:19Speaker 2: between two people and have them tackle. They'd have to.
- 27:22Speaker 2: They would have to give me too much credit and
- 27:25Speaker 2: run into each other in front of me because my
- 27:28Speaker 2: speed just does.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Not do it. Okay, let's do predictions. Okay, you already
- 27:33Speaker 1: gave yours, you already, but let's do game You had
- 27:36Speaker 1: Vikes by six. Give me a player performance and then
- 27:39Speaker 1: a Chad prediction.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Okay, player performance, I have two of them. I think
- 27:45Speaker 2: that because Cashman, let me ask you, this Cashman's still out?
- 27:50Speaker 2: Do we know?
- 27:51Speaker 1: I believe? So I believe Cashman will still be out.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Okay. Then I say Eric Wilson pick six interesting, yep,
- 27:58Speaker 2: and I have Carson went Vents rushing.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Touchdown beterrest team.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I I'm gonna go Vikes one hundred and twenty seven
- 28:11Speaker 1: to seventeen. I think over the Bengals. Yeah. For player performance,
- 28:18Speaker 1: I use this guy in game one, I'm gonna do.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I think there's a chance that we see an old
- 28:24Speaker 1: school like, hey, the running back ran for one hundred
- 28:27Speaker 1: and twenty yards and two touchdowns. Like give it to
- 28:30Speaker 1: that dude, Jordan Mason and let him rumble ye twenty
- 28:34Speaker 1: eight times. Let that dude have twenty to twenty eight
- 28:36Speaker 1: carries and just let him. I just think he's a
- 28:39Speaker 1: beast man. Just let him. I think he's gonna he
- 28:43Speaker 1: can wear that defense isn't what it was, wear him out,
- 28:46Speaker 1: wear him down, and then when they're worn down, here
- 28:49Speaker 1: comes Carson Wentz with his big you know, North Dakota rock,
- 28:54Speaker 1: pick an arm and blam a couple of deep shots.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So I'm going big running back game with a cup
- 29:00Speaker 1: of explosive deep shots. And for a personal opinion, for
- 29:05Speaker 1: a personal prediction, this will be the first game that
- 29:08Speaker 1: I watch with my son. Okay, like, actually watch now.
- 29:11Speaker 1: He's he's very into it, as much as a toddler
- 29:14Speaker 1: who doesn't understand what's happening can be into something. And
- 29:18Speaker 1: he's gotten to watch a few minutes of the first
- 29:20Speaker 1: two primetime games. We're gonna watch this game together. He's
- 29:23Speaker 1: embarking on a journey that you and I and the
- 29:28Speaker 1: adults in our lives have all been on, and I'm
- 29:31Speaker 1: just hoping that his journey and ours eventually leads to so.
- 29:35Speaker 1: So my prediction is we will watch eight minutes of
- 29:38Speaker 1: the game, he will lose interest, and then I will
- 29:40Speaker 1: watch it on my phone while telling him that it's
- 29:43Speaker 1: important to him. Well, he eats Dino nuggets and asks
- 29:47Speaker 1: about Sesame Street.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Oh love it. Well, my personal prediction is I'm not
- 29:51Speaker 2: going with my girlfriend I'm going with a friend and
- 29:54Speaker 2: I'm going to have a separate meal each of the
- 29:57Speaker 2: four quarters, hoping for overtime.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Yeah, they call that. They call that U Chads, Morgasborg.
- 30:04Speaker 1: That wasn't a thing. I tried to combine Chad and
- 30:07Speaker 1: Smorgsborg and then I just said both the words, and
- 30:12Speaker 1: that's that. Sucks to end the show that way, but
- 30:14Speaker 1: we're at okay. Well, let's get a win. I'll see
- 30:19Speaker 1: you next week. Hey, thank you everybody for joining us
- 30:24Speaker 1: on the show this week and each week. Thank you
- 30:26Speaker 1: for listening to our podcast feed while you're here. Give
- 30:29Speaker 1: it a good review, you know, five stars. Whatever you
- 30:32Speaker 1: can do, it makes a difference. Finally, huge shout up
- 30:34Speaker 1: to Ticketmaster, the official ticket marketplace of the Minnesota Vikings,
- 30:38Speaker 1: for helping make the show happen. Enjoy the game, everybody,
