- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You're at the time of water in the house.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: And feature eye.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Dungeon media.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: It's about.
- 0:46SPEAKER_06: Hey, there's Stanfield.
- 0:47SPEAKER_05: And I'm Travis Peasley.
- 0:49SPEAKER_04: So we didn't have an episode last week.
- 0:53SPEAKER_04: I know this has been happening a lot lately.
- 0:55SPEAKER_06: Um sometimes life happens.
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: Sometimes you schedule an appointment with your dentist, and you're like, okay, yeah, we're just gonna go get a filling done.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: That's fine.
- 1:05SPEAKER_04: And then you get in there and they're like, oh, while we're in here, let's just go ahead and get started on that fucking root canal.
- 1:12SPEAKER_05: Yep, that was kind of a surprise root canal.
- 1:15SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I like I knew I was going to have a root canal canal done.
- 1:19SPEAKER_04: Eventually.
- 1:20SPEAKER_04: Eventually.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: But that day.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: Because that wasn't part of the original plan.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: At least they did not tell me that.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: You know, if it was always a part of the plan and they just didn't tell me that's on them.
- 1:32SPEAKER_04: But regardless, whereas I was like, yeah, after a filling, I'll feel fine to go in and I'll be a little sore, but I'll be fine.
- 1:41SPEAKER_06: It's just a filling, you know.
- 1:42SPEAKER_04: But no, I had a root canal and I was like, I can't talk for an hour, an hour and a half, much less, you know, long enough to like yeah, yeah.
- 1:55SPEAKER_06: Defo.
- 1:56SPEAKER_06: So yeah.
- 1:57SPEAKER_06: Sometimes surprise root canals happen.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Surprise.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: You know what else surprised me?
- 2:05SPEAKER_04: What?
- 2:05SPEAKER_04: How much information I found on this week's topic?
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 2:08SPEAKER_04: That one surprised me first, admittedly.
- 2:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and and what would that be?
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Uh hags.
- 2:14SPEAKER_06: Hags.
- 2:15SPEAKER_05: Hags.
- 2:16SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 2:17SPEAKER_06: Them horrible, like haggy creatures.
- 2:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so like like swamp hags, night hags, uh hag hags.
- 2:27SPEAKER_06: Hag hags.
- 2:28SPEAKER_06: So hag ravens, no weight.
- 2:31SPEAKER_06: I mean, okay.
- 2:32SPEAKER_06: That's another that's another uh high fantasy IP.
- 2:35SPEAKER_06: Never mind.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: So spoiler alert, um, in first edition, it starts with just night hags, but we quickly we'll expand to more and more hags as time goes on.
- 2:44SPEAKER_04: Perhaps even too many hags.
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: Too many hags.
- 2:49SPEAKER_05: Is that a thing?
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: That is definitely a thing.
- 2:52SPEAKER_06: I think that's a thing that Taylor has experienced.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: That's a thing that Taylor has experienced.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: That's a thing that like adventurers have experienced.
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: It's just a thing.
- 2:59SPEAKER_05: Just too many hags.
- 3:01SPEAKER_04: Any I'll I I'm uh I'm gonna be real controversial here.
- 3:04SPEAKER_04: Perhaps any hags are too many hags.
- 3:07SPEAKER_05: Oh, really?
- 3:08SPEAKER_05: I I mean I would agree.
- 3:09SPEAKER_05: The little bit I know about them, they do kind of suck.
- 3:13SPEAKER_04: Um, before we jump into the DD aspect, um, like a lot of DD characters, they come from real-world folklore.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:25SPEAKER_06: Obviously.
- 3:26SPEAKER_04: Everyone has almost probably almost everyone has heard of a hag before in the real world.
- 3:32SPEAKER_06: Yes, that's an affectionate name for your your mother-in-law, right?
- 3:37SPEAKER_04: Yes, exactly.
- 3:38SPEAKER_06: Okay, got it, great.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: Um, no, a hag is a wisened old woman, kind of fairy or goddess having the appearance of an old woman.
- 3:49SPEAKER_06: Okay, like the life goals.
- 3:53SPEAKER_06: Like, I want to be a hag when I'm old.
- 3:55SPEAKER_06: Fuck yeah.
- 3:56SPEAKER_06: I want to be hag right now.
- 3:57SPEAKER_06: 25-year-old hag.
- 3:58SPEAKER_06: Fuck it.
- 4:00SPEAKER_04: Uh hags are often seen as malevolent, but uh may also be one of the chosen forms of shape-shifting deities, such as the Morgan, who are neither wholly benevolent or malevolent.
- 4:12SPEAKER_06: Morrigan, eh?
- 4:14SPEAKER_04: Okay, so I know where you're going with the Dragon Age thing, but the Morrigan is an actual Celtic goddess.
- 4:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know that.
- 4:22SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'm just making sure that, well, mm, not just you, but like listeners know.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_04: Um, she's uh typically one of the traditional three-form goddesses.
- 4:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's a she's a big one.
- 4:35SPEAKER_04: Maiden, uh mother, and crone.
- 4:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she's a big one.
- 4:38SPEAKER_06: But I mean, listen, I'm just making jokes about all the hag fantasy IPs today.
- 4:43SPEAKER_06: True.
- 4:44SPEAKER_06: I love you, Morgan.
- 4:45SPEAKER_04: Uh Crone actually is at some point used interchangeably with Hag, so that's kind of interesting.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 4:53SPEAKER_04: Fair enough.
- 4:54SPEAKER_04: Didn't come from the same roots.
- 4:56SPEAKER_04: Uh the term in Middle English is a shorten of hagatis, an old English term for witch.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: So it it's very much got these witchy roots.
- 5:07SPEAKER_04: And similarly, the Dutch hex and the German hex with an E on the end, but I assume it's still pronounced hex, uh, are shortenings of the Middle Dutch hagatis and the Old High German Hagusa.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 5:23SPEAKER_05: Hagzusa.
- 5:24SPEAKER_04: Gesundheit.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: Well, that's German for you.
- 5:27SPEAKER_05: Am I right?
- 5:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah, that sounds all right.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: It's believed that all of these um words actually have their roots in the same word, which would go back to mean hedge.
- 5:41SPEAKER_06: Oh, like hedge wedge.
- 5:43SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 5:43SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 5:44SPEAKER_06: Uh so I am a hag.
- 5:47SPEAKER_06: Nice! Fuck yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_05: Congratulations.
- 5:51SPEAKER_04: Woohoo! Life goals life goals achieved.
- 5:55SPEAKER_04: Um in in English, uh in Anglophone North America, but also a little bit of England, uh, the old hag was a nightmare spirit, um, essentially identical to the old English Myra, or Mira, perhaps, uh, a being with roots in ancient Germanic superstition, uh closely related to Scandinavian Mera.
- 6:17SPEAKER_04: Everything is derivative, in case you didn't know.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: True.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: According to folklore, the old hag sat on a sleeper's chest and sent nightmares to him or her.
- 6:25SPEAKER_04: When the subject awoke, he would be unable to breathe or even move for a short period of time.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: This state is now known as sleep paralysis.
- 6:33SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 6:34SPEAKER_04: But in the old belief, the subject was considered hag-ridden.
- 6:40SPEAKER_06: I like it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: Also, that I feel like I've heard the particular note about I'm I might be just like crossing the streams here, but I feel like I've heard of the particular note about the um nightmare demon in question um sitting on the victim's chest, attributed to both like that kind of thing, and also like I want to say they're Japanese, like Baku.
- 7:05SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 7:06SPEAKER_06: I might be crossing the streams a little bit, but I think it's interesting that if if those are like both interpretate like spiritual interpretations of like sleep paralysis, because like that's what it feels like.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: So um many stories about hags are used to frighten children into being good.
- 7:26SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 7:27SPEAKER_04: The and many of these tales don't know uh talk about hags in a way that does not describe them well enough to distinguish them between an old woman who knows magic or a witch or supernatural being.
- 7:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 7:40SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 7:40SPEAKER_04: Um in Slavic folklore, Babiaga is a hag.
- 7:44SPEAKER_04: Um she would often ride through the forest on a mortar, sweeping her tracks away with a broom.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: Um another interesting note is that the three fates, particularly Atropos, are often depicted as hags that will come back later.
- 7:59SPEAKER_04: Just keep that in mind.
- 8:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because I'm sure okay, no hold hold the commentary, because I'm pretty sure it'll be more pertinent later.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: Um in medieval literature, uh, the term hag came to stand for an unattractive older woman.
- 8:16SPEAKER_04: It builds on medieval tradition of these women, and these women represent the opposite of the lovely lady.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_04: Basically, this is kind of where the misogyny plays it.
- 8:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're like the yeah.
- 8:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 8:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we're like the you know, uh the association of of like uh ugliness and and all that associated with what is seen as evil.
- 8:44SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 8:44SPEAKER_06: Which may or may not actually even be evil in some people's opinions.
- 8:49SPEAKER_06: But, you know, that's where that association kind of kind of happens.
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: So onto the DD aspect.
- 8:59SPEAKER_04: Uh in first edition, hags are originally introduced in the monster manual for advanced dungeons and dragons.
- 9:05SPEAKER_04: Um, they're only introduced as the night hags.
- 9:09SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 9:10SPEAKER_04: The race of night hags rules the convoluted plains of Hades in first edition.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: Oh, sick.
- 9:16SPEAKER_04: And they are seldom encountered elsewhere.
- 9:18SPEAKER_04: Uh they're numerous in their own region, but appears uh they do appear on the material plane.
- 9:25SPEAKER_04: Just very rarely.
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: Always in search of very evil persons to slay and bring to Hades in the form of a larvae, because it's a uh valuable commodity to both demons and devils.
- 9:36SPEAKER_04: So just to quickly pop out of this explanation of uh everything in first edition, hags are particularly seen as they rule Hades, which is the neutral evil plane.
- 9:51SPEAKER_04: And they sell larva to both sides.
- 9:55SPEAKER_04: They play both sides.
- 9:56SPEAKER_06: Oh fun.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_06: Fun.
- 9:59SPEAKER_04: This kind of to me goes back to the whole the fates were depicted as hags.
- 10:05SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 10:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because they're kind of they're kind of like they're literally in Hades as Yeah, and they're also like kind of just like neutral.
- 10:17SPEAKER_04: Like they're not good and they take a lot of joy in their um Right, yeah.
- 10:23SPEAKER_06: But they're not they're not, they're they're kind of neutral in an almost objective sense.
- 10:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_06: Which I think kind of translates pretty well to um having these dealings with both demons and devils.
- 10:36SPEAKER_04: Because interestingly enough, um they, I mean, whether you like it or not, they do take evil people out of the primaterial plane.
- 10:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 10:44SPEAKER_04: So they do technically make the primaterial plane we're good.
- 10:46SPEAKER_06: So it I wonder, are these are these like larva um like strictly kind of like a currency?
- 10:55SPEAKER_06: Or or is it like because I know that the the um stages of making a devil?
- 11:01SPEAKER_06: Like there's a there's a larval stage in making a devil.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: So But that's also how the tonare were made.
- 11:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_06: So it is this purely a currency, like or is it just uh or is it like is it another way for them to bolster their numbers?
- 11:19SPEAKER_04: Do is that purely a commodity, honestly, for them.
- 11:22SPEAKER_04: Um or just to bolster, I guess, more their their traders' numbers, uh, who they trade with.
- 11:30SPEAKER_04: Because I will get into how the hags bolster bolster their numbers.
- 11:34SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay, gotcha, gotcha.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: Um, so an a night hag finds if a night hag finds a very selfish person, she'll cast a powerful sleep spell, which can affect up to 12 level humans.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: Um and then the night hag will string the vic strangle the victim in their sleep, which is kind of where we go back to the sleep paralysis thing.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 11:53SPEAKER_05: Jesus.
- 11:54SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:54SPEAKER_06: I mean that's very, very, very physical.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: Um put them to sleep and then just strangle them.
- 12:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like I I could almost see like put him to sleep and then just like, I don't know, use a phantasmal killer on them or something like that.
- 12:07SPEAKER_06: But that's very that's very physical.
- 12:10SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 12:10SPEAKER_06: Like, oh, sometimes you just gotta strangle a bitch with your gnarled old woman hands.
- 12:15SPEAKER_04: If the sleep spell fails, the hag will visit the victim nightly in an in an ethereal state, intrude on the victim's dreams, and we're gonna cause him or her to become ethereal, also, and then ride the victim until dawn.
- 12:28SPEAKER_04: Excuse me?
- 12:29SPEAKER_04: Not like that.
- 12:30SPEAKER_06: Excuse me?
- 12:32SPEAKER_06: Literally.
- 12:33SPEAKER_06: Alright, raise your hand in the comments if you didn't hear that phrasing and immediately go, excuse me.
- 12:42SPEAKER_04: This is Gary Gygax's own words.
- 12:45SPEAKER_06: Gary Gygax probably wrote that, like, yeah.
- 12:48SPEAKER_06: Okay, no.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: Um, the night hack cannot be removed from the victim's back by the victim.
- 12:55SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: And each nightly ride permanently drains one point of the victim's constitution.
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: When the constitution reaches zero, the victim is dead, and the night hack returns to Hades with its lorble soul.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: So like, is she like a hot older lady?
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: Because like No, they're hideous.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Bring me paying attention.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: They are horribly hideous.
- 13:15SPEAKER_06: No, you no, you said riding, and my brain went somewhere else.
- 13:18SPEAKER_06: Honestly, though, I think I would rather like take the successful sleep still on getting strangled than that.
- 13:25SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: I mean, unless she's hot, you know.
- 13:28SPEAKER_06: But because that sounds like terrible.
- 13:31SPEAKER_04: It's like literally the ring.
- 13:32SPEAKER_04: Like, you're oh you're gonna die.
- 13:34SPEAKER_06: And you're just kind of getting like more or less tortured for that period of time.
- 13:38SPEAKER_06: Whereas, like, if you just fall asleep and get strangled in your sleep, like, yeah, you might wake up a little bit and be like, what the fuck?
- 13:45SPEAKER_06: But then you're then you're dead.
- 13:46SPEAKER_06: So what were you gonna say, Travis?
- 13:48SPEAKER_05: It certainly doesn't take like a week.
- 13:49SPEAKER_05: I mean sorry.
- 13:50SPEAKER_05: So basically it's just like cast a sleep spell.
- 13:54SPEAKER_05: If they pass that, then they're just like, all right, I'll just fuck them up in their dreams until they're dead.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 14:01SPEAKER_04: And it doesn't say anything that uh it does say that the victim cannot remove the hag.
- 14:06SPEAKER_04: It doesn't say that you can't get like intervention.
- 14:07SPEAKER_04: So like you could still technically be saved.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: It would just require outside intervention.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: It's like you can ask for help.
- 14:14SPEAKER_04: There's nothing saying that you can't talk about it.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: It's just that you have to hope that you have a good enough cleric or what have you to come into the ethereal plane and help you out.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: And get the hag off your back, literally.
- 14:24SPEAKER_06: Or just, you know, do the good old like nightmare on Elm Street and just like keep keep taking like just keep like washing down like um stimulant medication with like coffee and some Red Bull.
- 14:39SPEAKER_06: Oh my god.
- 14:39SPEAKER_06: And just like they'll die for a different reason.
- 14:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, as I was saying, just see which happens first.
- 14:44SPEAKER_06: Either you fall asleep or your heart gives out.
- 14:47SPEAKER_04: So I know I mentioned that they like to kill evil people, and I mean that's nice, but they're not great people.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Night hags hate goodness and they will attack any creature which is of good of alignment as long as the possibilities appear favorable.
- 15:00SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 15:03SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_04: Uh night hags are able to employ a magic missile spell three times per day, uh, which can cause two to sixteen points of damage when they when it strikes.
- 15:13SPEAKER_05: Quite a range.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: They can likewise use a ray of enfeeblement three times a day.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: They can become ethereal at will.
- 15:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, they also have the ability to know a creature's alignment and polymorph themselves at will.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 15:28SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 15:29SPEAKER_05: Yep, there is the the shapeshifting as the shape-shifting aspect.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: Um, nighthags are able to actually protect their bodies, but in order to do so, they must have taken possession of a special perapt, which each forges in Hades.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: I had to look this up.
- 15:43SPEAKER_04: Or sorry, a periapt.
- 15:44SPEAKER_04: A periapt is an item worn as a charm or amulet.
- 15:47SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 15:48SPEAKER_06: Huh.
- 15:49SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 15:50SPEAKER_06: So that's a fun okay, that's your word of the day.
- 15:52SPEAKER_06: Peryapt.
- 15:53SPEAKER_05: Periapt.
- 15:54SPEAKER_06: They could have easily just wrote in like charm or amulet.
- 15:58SPEAKER_06: Well, no, but then we wouldn't have a good word of the day, Travis.
- 16:00SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 16:01SPEAKER_06: Alright.
- 16:02SPEAKER_06: There's nothing ever wrong with expanding your vocabulary a little bit.
- 16:05SPEAKER_04: If the periapt is taken from the hag, she can leave the plane at the time of the loss, but then you have their special periact.
- 16:16SPEAKER_04: Um first edition gives a very brief description of the night hag.
- 16:21SPEAKER_04: It's a hideous dark blue-violet color with black hair and glowing red eyes, talon hands and feet.
- 16:28SPEAKER_04: Uh uh the nails are like a jet black color.
- 16:33SPEAKER_05: Like with the talons and everything, you would think instead of like choking them, they would just slit their throat.
- 16:40SPEAKER_06: But that's not fun.
- 16:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no.
- 16:43SPEAKER_06: To feel it fight back.
- 16:44SPEAKER_06: Also, I personally think it's asleep.
- 16:46SPEAKER_06: It's not fighting back anyway.
- 16:47SPEAKER_06: I mean, I personally think a dark blue-violet color is nice.
- 16:50SPEAKER_04: It is, yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_06: But uh apparently it's a hideous shade of dark blue-violet, apparently.
- 16:55SPEAKER_04: It's hideous.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: So it's kind of sickly.
- 16:58SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 16:59SPEAKER_06: Whatever.
- 16:59SPEAKER_06: I'm just saying they can polymorph at will.
- 17:01SPEAKER_06: She could look like a hot lady.
- 17:03SPEAKER_04: But she's going to torture you.
- 17:04SPEAKER_06: She doesn't.
- 17:05SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 17:08SPEAKER_06: Hot lady strangling me.
- 17:11SPEAKER_06: Oh, Jesus Christ.
- 17:13SPEAKER_06: How terrible! Wouldn't want that to happen to me.
- 17:18SPEAKER_04: Anyways.
- 17:19SPEAKER_04: In second edition, the night hags don't really change that much.
- 17:22SPEAKER_04: There isn't really much difference.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: I mean, um, but second edition will introduce us new types of hags.
- 17:31SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 17:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I should mention that at for second edition and I think part of third edition as well, it still like it gives each type of hag their own column instead of saying these are hags, these are types of hags.
- 17:46SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_04: So it's kind of a mess to find everything.
- 17:49SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
- 17:49SPEAKER_06: I I love it when they do that.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: So uh green hags are a race of evil creatures related to both the honest and the night hags.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: More on honest later.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 17:59SPEAKER_06: Um those are, so well, you do know what night hags are.
- 18:03SPEAKER_06: Well, yes.
- 18:04SPEAKER_04: Um, honest and green hags dwell on the primaterial plane.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: While many of these horde creatures live in forests and lonely moors, there's some there are some inhabiting swamps and rivers.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, so this is the swamp hag.
- 18:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: Uh the lair is always a small cave, possibly one dug in earth.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: Um these are very much your swamp hags.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: Um green hags uh like to use attacks with claws and claw basically using their talents.
- 18:35SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: Uh they have a strength of 18 slash zero zero, which I don't know what that means.
- 18:43SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say strength of 18.
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: That that sounds good.
- 18:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_05: I don't know what that means.
- 18:50SPEAKER_06: It's um 18 divided by zero.
- 18:52SPEAKER_06: Um, congratulations, you've broken the game and your dungeon master scout is now on fire.
- 18:57SPEAKER_06: Um anyway.
- 18:58SPEAKER_05: Like, is that supposed to be like 18 out of 20?
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: I so I didn't copy down the stat block.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: That's my bad.
- 19:04SPEAKER_04: But they're very strong.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: They have a plus six to their attack.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: Oh, big strong.
- 19:09SPEAKER_05: Jesus.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: Sorry, not to their attack, but to their attack damage.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: Big strong.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: Um, in order to lure victims to them, green hags use their mimic ability.
- 19:16SPEAKER_04: They uh can imitate the voice of mature or immature, male or female, human or demi-human, calls for help, crying, etc.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: etc.
- 19:26SPEAKER_06: That reminds me of a certain something that happened in our Pathfinder camp.
- 19:30SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 19:31SPEAKER_06: At that one point.
- 19:32SPEAKER_04: Lewin got well, Lewin's character got lured into the forest by a beautiful.
- 19:37SPEAKER_06: Oh no, no, no.
- 19:38SPEAKER_06: I'm talking about whenever um Drella heard what sounded like that little kid crying.
- 19:42SPEAKER_06: What it it didn't turn out to be like a witch type thing.
- 19:45SPEAKER_06: It was like the little kid was evil.
- 19:48SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: I can't remember exactly what it's like.
- 19:50SPEAKER_06: That reminds me of that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_06: Like the whole like you hear a you hear like a child crying and you're like, oh, I gotta go investigate that.
- 19:56SPEAKER_06: And then nope, turns out it's something evil.
- 19:58SPEAKER_06: I didn't want to do it, but Drella made me.
- 20:01SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 20:01SPEAKER_06: You're like, oh, but my character would do it.
- 20:04SPEAKER_04: Damn it.
- 20:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I was like, I'm very suspicious.
- 20:08SPEAKER_04: I don't want to do it.
- 20:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you're like, for the record, Taylor doesn't want to do this, but Drella wants to do this.
- 20:12SPEAKER_06: Which is a mood and a half.
- 20:14SPEAKER_06: Yes, that happens often.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: Um, they're also able to mimic animal sounds.
- 20:19SPEAKER_04: Oh, they got me and goes on to list all of the animals.
- 20:22SPEAKER_06: They got me cats, dogs, goats, sheep.
- 20:24SPEAKER_06: Yep, you're a little kitty cat in the distance, and I'm like, noom, I'm there.
- 20:30SPEAKER_06: Especially if it sounds like it's a crying kitty.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like, oh, let me go help the kitty.
- 20:35SPEAKER_04: Um, they got me.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 20:37SPEAKER_04: Green hags appear.
- 20:38SPEAKER_04: Uh basically, like it literally says like night hags with green skin.
- 20:43SPEAKER_04: They're shiny night hags.
- 20:45SPEAKER_05: Um shiny version.
- 20:47SPEAKER_04: Shiny version, exactly.
- 20:48SPEAKER_04: Um, their hair color ranges from black to olive green.
- 20:53SPEAKER_04: Um, eye colors are more of an amber and orange color.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: They often dress as peasants do, is what it says.
- 20:59SPEAKER_04: Ah.
- 21:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they dress in shitty clothes, basically.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like, yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: Um, so the honests were also introduced in second edition, and the honests are relatives to the hags, is basically how they're described.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: Uh, their appearance is similar to night hags, but onis are larger and more physically powerful.
- 21:21SPEAKER_04: Honest dwell naturally upon the primaterial plane.
- 21:24SPEAKER_04: They are giantesses and particularly fond of human flesh.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: However, so voracious is their appetite, they will devour anything regardless of how foul.
- 21:33SPEAKER_05: Um well then.
- 21:35SPEAKER_04: Honest attacks partic uh in particular prefer to use talons and teeth inflicting horrible gaping wounds.
- 21:43SPEAKER_04: Uh, the strength of an onus is equal to that of a hill giant.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Which are pretty strong.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, quite strong.
- 21:51SPEAKER_04: They also tend to grapple their opponents.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: Their grapples automatically deal damage.
- 21:56SPEAKER_06: Oh, awesome.
- 21:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_06: Well, that's good for that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: In addition to their normal attacks, an honest has a spell-like ability to cast a fog cloud at an opponent.
- 22:07SPEAKER_04: Wow, let me try that again.
- 22:08SPEAKER_04: At an opponent.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: This will be done to confuse or delay an attack by a superior foe.
- 22:14SPEAKER_04: They can also change appearance and appear to be like a large human, ogre, etc.
- 22:19SPEAKER_04: These power both these towers are useful one at a time, once per round, and twice per day.
- 22:25SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 22:26SPEAKER_06: Huh.
- 22:26SPEAKER_06: So basically they're just like really beefy green eggs.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, and their skin counts as armor.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 22:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:37SPEAKER_05: I mean, they're giant, so I guess that would make sense.
- 22:41SPEAKER_05: Their skin is just leather, basically.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:44SPEAKER_04: Um, an onis is more of a uh deep blue color.
- 22:48SPEAKER_04: It's similar in complexion and visage to the night hag, except fucking huge.
- 22:53SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: Hair, teeth, and nails are all glossy black.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: Uh the eyes of an onis are usually dull.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: However, being they're more green or yellowish instead of red, like they're night hag cousins.
- 23:05SPEAKER_04: The tall body is thin, muscly, and wiry.
- 23:09SPEAKER_04: Those are all very different descriptives, descriptors, but that's what thin, muscle and wiry.
- 23:16SPEAKER_06: No, I mean that makes sense to me.
- 23:17SPEAKER_06: Like that's someone who has like a like you would say like a thin frame.
- 23:21SPEAKER_06: So built like an elf.
- 23:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but with a but with a lot of muscle, but not like a lot of body fat.
- 23:26SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 23:27SPEAKER_06: So basically they're like um they're like figure competitors instead of actual like uh like like strong lifters.
- 23:36SPEAKER_06: Their garb they only lift for aesthetics.
- 23:39SPEAKER_04: Their garb is also that of a peasant woman, but usually more tattered and filthy.
- 23:44SPEAKER_06: So they're like a night hag and a green hag had a really large baby.
- 23:48SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 23:49SPEAKER_06: And then they just like threw it out in the spoon.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: And that baby was a barbarian.
- 23:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:54SPEAKER_05: And now they just look gross and nasty.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 23:57SPEAKER_04: There's very little change between 3.5 and 3rd edition, so I'm really just gonna focus on 3.5 because.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: As it as it often is.
- 24:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:04SPEAKER_04: All that 3.5 did really was group them together better and just added a little bit here and there.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: Um, and 3.5 um hags are expanded on more as a group of all basically being different types of hags instead of just like, oh, they're very distantly related.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: And, you know, some of them are called hags, and one of them's called an honest.
- 24:25SPEAKER_06: It's more like these are the hags, this is the night hag, this is a yes, yes.
- 24:29SPEAKER_06: Gotcha.
- 24:30SPEAKER_04: So uh hags are horrible creatures whose love of evil is equaled only by their ugliness.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: Same.
- 24:36SPEAKER_04: Shut up.
- 24:37SPEAKER_04: Jesus Christ.
- 24:38SPEAKER_04: Um they often plot and scheme.
- 24:42SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 24:42SPEAKER_04: You're fine.
- 24:43SPEAKER_04: Uh they often plot and scheme for power to some malevolent end.
- 24:47SPEAKER_04: Uh, they also just like to do evil things for evil's sake.
- 24:51SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 24:51SPEAKER_04: I mean.
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: Are they neutral evil by chance?
- 24:54SPEAKER_04: Um, let me double check that.
- 24:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, they're definitely not gonna be lawful evil if that's the case.
- 24:59SPEAKER_06: They are neutral evil and chaotic evil.
- 25:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:01SPEAKER_06: Okay, because the the the plot and scheme for power or some malevolent end sounds like it could be a little bit more lawful, you know?
- 25:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:11SPEAKER_06: Like the the the machinations of of um the nine hells.
- 25:18SPEAKER_06: But the doing evil for evil's sake is very it's it almost feels like instead of bridging the gap and being perfectly in the middle of like chaos and law, it's like they take bits and pieces from each of them.
- 25:30SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 25:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: Um, they use dark magic and knowledge of these things to serve more powerful evil beings, but they're not usually very faithful to those.
- 25:41SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: They can turn on their master if they see a chance to see power for themselves.
- 25:46SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 25:47SPEAKER_04: Different hags are unique in appearance and mannerism.
- 25:49SPEAKER_04: They all have many aspects in common.
- 25:51SPEAKER_04: Like I said, this is just bringing them all together, let's unify them.
- 25:56SPEAKER_04: It's great.
- 25:57SPEAKER_04: Um, they all take the form of crones who bent whose bent shapes belie their fierce power and swiftness, i.e., they're they look like withered old women, but they will kick your ass.
- 26:11SPEAKER_04: Despite their faces being cracked by wrinkles and heavy with cruelty, their eyes are villainy and cunning.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: Same?
- 26:19SPEAKER_04: I I think uh they have long nails made out of well, not actually made out of steel, but they more or less made out of steel.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: Uh and they are as sharp as any knife.
- 26:33SPEAKER_04: Uh hags speed giant and common in 3.5.
- 26:37SPEAKER_05: I wonder why giant.
- 26:39SPEAKER_04: So this is kind of where I believe the hags are meshing more less with being otherworldly creatures of the lower plains and more into the Fey like thing, but there's no Fey Wilds yet, as of 3.5 edition.
- 26:55SPEAKER_06: Hmm.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 26:57SPEAKER_06: So just keep of all the things, like you could tell me abyssal in common, or I just would not have thought giant.
- 27:04SPEAKER_06: Or something like that, and I would be like, yeah, sure.
- 27:06SPEAKER_06: No, that's fair.
- 27:07SPEAKER_05: Unless it's like the uh honest hag, in which case, like a giant creature.
- 27:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, sure.
- 27:14SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 27:15SPEAKER_06: The language at that point is like, we're both big.
- 27:19SPEAKER_04: Um hags are tremendously strong.
- 27:21SPEAKER_04: They have a natural resistance to spells and can cast magic of their own.
- 27:25SPEAKER_04: They this is also the first mention of cuvies, um, which is the plural form of coven.
- 27:32unknown: Oh.
- 27:33SPEAKER_05: Huh.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: Huh.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: I don't always just said covens right.
- 27:38SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think both are grammatically correct, but in this case.
- 27:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I just didn't know that cuvies was a covenant.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: I don't like it.
- 27:45SPEAKER_06: I don't think I like that word as much as Covens.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: Then again, that could be that old kind of thing because there's so many like different types of like witchcraft and groupings of witchcraft like traditions that that could easily be very much like they both come from the same like old, old, old, old as balls like English word.
- 28:05SPEAKER_04: Well, so I guess specifically cubby actually more so refers to a flock of birds.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: Oh okay, I see.
- 28:17SPEAKER_06: It's used as a um as essentially as a plural of coven, but it's essentially like a just a substitute for um coven that's more birdie.
- 28:26SPEAKER_06: I like that.
- 28:27SPEAKER_04: So um cubbies usually contain one type of each hag, but uh it can vary.
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: And but when they are I'll I'll touch more on this later, but when they are covied up, so to speak, they they have access to more powers.
- 28:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that makes sense to me because it's like, you know.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 28:45SPEAKER_04: So first up in 3.5, we have the honest hag.
- 28:49SPEAKER_04: Um, this creature looks like an ancient female human, but impossibly tall.
- 28:53SPEAKER_04: Ancient.
- 28:54SPEAKER_04: She has deep blue skin and filthy black hair.
- 28:57SPEAKER_04: Honest may be the most horrible of hags.
- 29:00SPEAKER_04: Humley uses its disguised self-ability to take the form of an exceptionally tall human, a fair giant or an ogre.
- 29:07SPEAKER_04: Uh, honest stand at eight feet tall and weigh about around 325 pounds.
- 29:12SPEAKER_06: I love how that says like impossibly tall.
- 29:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: And then they're like eight feet tall.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: They are impossibly tall.
- 29:18SPEAKER_06: That is not at all where my mind went.
- 29:20SPEAKER_06: My mind went to like as tall as I think um Nightwalkers were, which is like around 25 feet tall.
- 29:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_06: That's where my mind went.
- 29:27SPEAKER_06: But okay.
- 29:28SPEAKER_06: I mean, eight feet tall is impossibly tall for the average human.
- 29:32SPEAKER_06: In fact, I would I'm sure there are some very, very like far at the end uh note um notable people who have been eight feet tall, but very rare.
- 29:43SPEAKER_06: Very, very rare.
- 29:44SPEAKER_04: Um despite being physically powerful, they don't really like just go in and be beat the shit out of people.
- 29:51SPEAKER_04: They try to defy their foes and confuse them.
- 29:54SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: They love to pose as commoners and lull the lull their victims into a sense of false security before they attack.
- 30:00SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 30:01SPEAKER_06: They're not just like they're they're they're tricksy.
- 30:04SPEAKER_04: For the most part, their abilities had not changed.
- 30:07SPEAKER_04: Then we have the green hag.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: This creature looks like a very old female human.
- 30:11SPEAKER_04: It has a sickly green complexion with dark tangled hair that looks like a twisted vine.
- 30:16SPEAKER_04: Green hags are found in desolate swamps and dark forests.
- 30:19SPEAKER_04: Uh, green hag is about the same height and weight as a female human.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: Green hags prefer to attack from hiding, usually distracting their foes.
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: They often use dark vision to their advantage by attacking during moonless nights.
- 30:31SPEAKER_04: Ooh.
- 30:32SPEAKER_04: Again, um, not really much change.
- 30:35SPEAKER_06: Um it's essentially just the evolution of numbers.
- 30:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_04: Interestingly enough, uh green hag hasn't plus eight racial bonus on any swim check.
- 30:44SPEAKER_04: Because they're not the only water-based hag.
- 30:50SPEAKER_04: Now we have the sea hag.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: That one's new.
- 30:53SPEAKER_06: Oh, fun.
- 30:54SPEAKER_06: Can you imagine one of these horrifying actually?
- 30:56SPEAKER_06: One of these green hags, like you just see them like poke their head up above the water like an alligator.
- 31:06SPEAKER_06: Oh, I don't like it.
- 31:07SPEAKER_04: So uh the sea hag looks like an old female human with sickly yellow flesh covered with wortz and oozing sores.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: Ooh! His long, filthy hair resembles brotting seaweed.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Perhaps the most wretched of the hags, the sea hag, is found in the water of seas or overgrown lakes.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: Sea hag is about the same height and weight as a female human.
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: Sea hags are not subtle and prefer a direct approach to combat.
- 31:31SPEAKER_04: They usually remain in hiding until they can affect as many foes as possible with their horrific appearance.
- 31:37SPEAKER_05: Oh, geez, excuse me.
- 31:39SPEAKER_05: So they just fucking sit and wait until everyone can see them and then they're like, hey.
- 31:44SPEAKER_06: Look how ugly I am.
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: So actually, horrific appearance is one of their abilities.
- 32:04SPEAKER_05: Jesus Christ.
- 32:06SPEAKER_04: This damage cannot reduce a victim's strength score below zero, but anyone reduces zero is helpless.
- 32:13SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah, because like I mean you you're not strong enough to do anything.
- 32:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:18SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 32:19SPEAKER_04: Uh creatures that are affected by this power uh or that successfully successfully save against it cannot be affected by the same hag for 24 hours.
- 32:30SPEAKER_05: But they can be affected by other hags.
- 32:34SPEAKER_05: Oh god, that's so funny.
- 32:35SPEAKER_05: Holy shit.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: Dude, if like a group of like five of them just all came out.
- 32:40SPEAKER_04: Oh, but wait, there's more.
- 32:42SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 32:42SPEAKER_04: Um, sea hags also have evil eye.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: Three times per day a sea sea hag may cast its dire gaze upon any single creature within 30 feet.
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: Target must succeed on a DC-13 will save or be dazed for three days.
- 32:55SPEAKER_04: Three days?
- 32:56SPEAKER_04: Three days.
- 32:57SPEAKER_04: Remove curse or dispel evil can restore sanity sooner.
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: What but excuse me?
- 33:02SPEAKER_04: What in addition, an affected creature must succeed on a DC 13 fortitude save or not die from fright.
- 33:09SPEAKER_04: Excuse me?
- 33:10SPEAKER_05: In addition?
- 33:11SPEAKER_04: In addition.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: Creatures with immunity to fear effects are not affected by the sea hags easily.
- 33:18SPEAKER_06: Okay, I will say for third edition, DC-13 is a very low threshold for that save.
- 33:25SPEAKER_06: You're not wrong.
- 33:26SPEAKER_06: I will say that.
- 33:27SPEAKER_06: But the fact that it has a power that it can use three times per day uh that can instantly kill you.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: It's it's not this.
- 33:37SPEAKER_06: It essentially has three charges of a low a lower DC phantasmal killer, and that's not great.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: So yeah.
- 33:44SPEAKER_06: Um Jesus.
- 33:47SPEAKER_06: Imagine if a Sea Hag like got Instagram and got like all like was this clickbaiting, you know, with with like pictures of of of hot women, and then one day like has like millions of followers, and then one day posts an actual selfie, and like people the world over just start fucking dying.
- 34:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 34:09SPEAKER_05: Well, okay, you don't die, but people the world over just start getting fucking sick.
- 34:14SPEAKER_05: Everyone's just sick and dazed for like no reason.
- 34:18SPEAKER_04: So sea hags are actually amphibious.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: Uh they are squatic, but they can survive indefinitely on land.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: Um plus eight racial bonuses swim checks.
- 34:28SPEAKER_04: It can also always choose to take 10 on a swim check, even if distracted or endangered.
- 34:33SPEAKER_04: Oh, nice, nice.
- 34:34SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 34:34SPEAKER_06: That's yeah, that's pretty okay.
- 34:37SPEAKER_06: I mean fair enough.
- 34:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, they live in the ocean.
- 34:40SPEAKER_05: Well, water still suck, but you know.
- 34:43SPEAKER_04: Um, so the night hag in third edition.
- 34:45SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: Um, this looks like a like a hideously ugly human woman.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: Same.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: It should up.
- 34:52SPEAKER_04: Its flesh is the blue violet of a deep bruise and covered with warts, blisters, and open source.
- 34:58SPEAKER_04: I like that it actually gives a a good descriptor of what what type of blue violet we're looking for instead of just like blue violet.
- 35:05SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 35:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, trust me, it's hideous.
- 35:07SPEAKER_06: Okay, gotcha.
- 35:09SPEAKER_05: But don't worry, it's still fucking hideous.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: But they're covered in warts, blisters, and open source.
- 35:14SPEAKER_06: Okay, not the same, thankfully.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: It has straggly, I think it means straggly, but uh jet black hair and jagged yellow teeth.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: Shut up.
- 35:24SPEAKER_04: The eyes burn like hot coals, throwing out a thick red radiance.
- 35:29SPEAKER_04: Ooh.
- 35:30SPEAKER_04: Nighthags are merciless and utterly evil.
- 35:33SPEAKER_04: They're creatures from the planet of Hades that constantly hunger for the flesh and souls of innocent men and women.
- 35:39SPEAKER_06: Oh, so they're not evil men and women anymore.
- 35:42SPEAKER_06: Now they're innocent.
- 35:45SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
- 35:46SPEAKER_06: Because at least back at least back in an earlier incarnation of them, they were at least like unintentionally maybe doing a little bit of good.
- 35:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was wondering because I always just remembered hags as going after like innocent people.
- 36:01SPEAKER_05: And then first edition, it was like, no, they're going after the evil ones.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: Well, because they they would turn into larva, which is currency for them.
- 36:10SPEAKER_04: We it started to slowly move away from that.
- 36:12SPEAKER_04: But we'll really get into it in fourth edition.
- 36:15SPEAKER_04: I actually really like what fourth edition did.
- 36:17SPEAKER_04: Oh, whoa, okay.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 36:22SPEAKER_04: Trust me on this.
- 36:23SPEAKER_04: Uh a night hag is about the same height and weight as a female human.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: Nighthags speak abyssal, celestial, common, and infernal.
- 36:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, those yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: They attack good creatures on site if odds of success seem favorable.
- 36:37SPEAKER_04: Uh creatures rip through armor and flesh with their deadly teeth.
- 36:42SPEAKER_04: They love to use sleep and then strangles who are overcome by it.
- 36:46SPEAKER_06: So, like similar in a lot of ways to earlier incarnations.
- 36:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:51unknown: Hmm.
- 36:52SPEAKER_04: So, as for its abilities, it has disease, demon fever, which is caused by a their bite.
- 37:00SPEAKER_04: It has a fortitude save of 18, incubation period of one day, and its damage is 1d6 constitution.
- 37:08SPEAKER_04: Each day after the first, on a failed save, an afflicted creature must immediately succeed on DC 18 fortitude save or take one point of constitution drain.
- 37:18SPEAKER_04: The DC is constitution based.
- 37:19SPEAKER_06: That's what Taylor had when she did like three episodes on demons.
- 37:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 37:25SPEAKER_04: I definitely did take some constitution drain.
- 37:28SPEAKER_04: Um Yeah, yeah.
- 37:29SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's so I'm it doesn't say, but I'm going to assume based on just how these tend to work in DD and also its previous iterations, that when you hit zero, you die.
- 37:40SPEAKER_05: Right, yeah.
- 37:42SPEAKER_05: I would assume that that's still the case here.
- 37:45SPEAKER_04: Now it functions as a disease, so if someone has cured of these, you're good.
- 37:49SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 37:50SPEAKER_04: Because it doesn't say it's incurable.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: Um, so spell-like abilities at will, it can cast detect chaos, detect evil, detect good, detect log, detect magic, magic missile, polymorph self-only, grave enfeeblement, sleep, etc.
- 38:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, night hag can cast its own, use etherealness at will, so long as it possesses its hearthstone.
- 38:13SPEAKER_04: Hearthstone?
- 38:14SPEAKER_05: Hearthstone.
- 38:15SPEAKER_05: Hearthstone.
- 38:16SPEAKER_05: Hearthstone?
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: Hearthstone.
- 38:18SPEAKER_04: Heartstone is another thing.
- 38:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's another thing that about hags is they're really into hearthstone.
- 38:25SPEAKER_05: Shush.
- 38:26SPEAKER_05: I fucking wouldn't be surprised though.
- 38:28SPEAKER_04: Um also nighthags still have dream haunting.
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, is that there?
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: Uh nighthags can visit the dreams of chaotic or evil individuals by using a special periopt.
- 38:40SPEAKER_04: Amulet, known as a hearthstone, to become ethereal, then hovering over the creature.
- 38:44SPEAKER_04: Um, once a nighthag invades someone's dreams, it writes on the victim's back until dawn.
- 38:50SPEAKER_06: This one knew about you, Lewin.
- 38:52SPEAKER_06: This one knew about to specify this.
- 38:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this one knew about people like me.
- 38:57SPEAKER_06: Fucking Lewin.
- 38:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, fucking Lewin who was seven years old at the time when this came out.
- 39:02SPEAKER_04: Oh, they knew.
- 39:03SPEAKER_04: The sleeper suffers from tormenting dreams and takes one point of constitution drain upon awakening.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Only another ethereal being can stop these nocturnal intrusions by confronting and defeating the night hag.
- 39:14SPEAKER_04: This one also establishes steps to defeat the night hag.
- 39:19SPEAKER_06: So on real interest.
- 39:21SPEAKER_06: No, they you know they had to change that phrasing because you know that they were like looking over it while they were writing it.
- 39:28SPEAKER_06: And someone on like their their like panel or whatever was like writing.
- 39:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: And they're like, okay.
- 39:35SPEAKER_04: And they're like, wax the drawing board with that.
- 39:38SPEAKER_05: They're like, hmm.
- 39:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, maybe we actually should have thought about that.
- 39:41SPEAKER_05: We need to rephrase this one.
- 39:43SPEAKER_05: Uh send it to Jerry, he can do that.
- 39:45SPEAKER_05: Jerry.
- 39:46SPEAKER_05: Thank you, Jerry.
- 39:46SPEAKER_04: Thank you, Jerry.
- 39:48SPEAKER_04: Um, so the heartstone.
- 39:49SPEAKER_04: Um, all night hags carry a special pariap known as a heartstone, which instantly cures any PCs contracted by the holder.
- 39:56SPEAKER_04: In addition, a heartstone provides a plus two resistance bonus on all saving throws.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: Um, a night hag that loses this charm can no longer use its etherealness until it can manufacture another one, which takes one month.
- 40:10SPEAKER_04: Uh creatures other than the hag can benefit from Heartstone's powers, but the periap shatters after 10 uses.
- 40:17SPEAKER_04: Any disease cured or saving throw affected counts as a use.
- 40:22SPEAKER_04: So you don't have to specifically say, I'm using it.
- 40:25SPEAKER_04: If you're holding it and it cures a disease, it's a use.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: And it's done.
- 40:31SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, that's kind of nice though.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: At least you don't have to remember to be like, hey, I use this, by the way.
- 40:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 40:36SPEAKER_04: True.
- 40:36SPEAKER_04: It does not bestow etherealness to a bearer that is not a night hag.
- 40:42SPEAKER_04: Um if sold, it's worth about 1800 gold pieces.
- 40:46SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's quite a bit.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's a good chunk of change right there.
- 40:49SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:50SPEAKER_05: Is it worth going up against a hag to get it?
- 40:52SPEAKER_05: Probably not, but you know, you do you.
- 40:56SPEAKER_06: I mean, if you if you just happen to um, you know, have a have a you know, situation where you run into a night hag, you know.
- 41:06SPEAKER_06: Just go for the heartstone.
- 41:08SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's just like a nice little bonus if you manage to survive that encounter, I guess.
- 41:12SPEAKER_06: Just go for the heartstone and run.
- 41:14SPEAKER_06: Right, yeah.
- 41:15SPEAKER_04: From time to time, a trio of hags gathers as a cubby.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: Usually this foul triune includes one hag of each type, but it is not always the case.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: Hags in a cubby rely on deception and their boosted magical abilities in combat.
- 41:31SPEAKER_04: Uh, they are likely to be guarded by 1d8 ogres and 1d4 evil giants to do their bidding.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: These minions are often disguised with a veil spell to appear less threatening and set forth as spies.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Ooh! Okay.
- 41:46SPEAKER_04: Um, such minions often carry magic stones as hag eyes.
- 41:51SPEAKER_05: Hag eyes.
- 41:52SPEAKER_04: More on that in a moment.
- 41:53SPEAKER_04: Well, actually, no, more on that now.
- 41:55SPEAKER_04: Um, a hag eye is a mashed gem created by a covey.
- 41:58SPEAKER_04: It appears to be nothing more than a semi-precious stone.
- 42:01SPEAKER_04: But it's actually a gem of seeing another uh but sorry.
- 42:08SPEAKER_04: Basically, if you can see it, you can see that it's actually a somebody's eye.
- 42:12SPEAKER_05: Oh, okay.
- 42:13SPEAKER_05: So it's an actual eye.
- 42:14SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 42:15SPEAKER_04: Um a hag eye is worn as a ring, brooch, or other adornment.
- 42:19SPEAKER_04: Um, any of the three hags who created the hag eye can see through it in whichever way they wish.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: This also kind of goes back to the three.
- 42:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, with the yeah.
- 42:29SPEAKER_05: With the one eye that they pass around.
- 42:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:31SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:32SPEAKER_05: Fuck yeah.
- 42:33SPEAKER_05: Well, okay, I guess that's specific to the movie, but there's I mean, there's some real real Greek mythology in there stuff.
- 42:42SPEAKER_06: I'm like, I'm pretty sure, like, don't get me wrong, that movie got a lot of things wrong, like implying that Zeus and Hera had a healthy, happy marriage.
- 42:49SPEAKER_06: But yeah, we're principally, honestly.
- 42:53SPEAKER_06: But also, I can like I I would imagine that that wasn't just something that they put in there for like goofy goofs.
- 42:59SPEAKER_06: I would imagine that that does have an actual basis in Greek mythology.
- 43:02SPEAKER_04: I just can't remember off the top of my head.
- 43:04SPEAKER_06: I'm pretty sure it does.
- 43:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: Destroying a high uh blah blah blah blah.
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: Destroying a high elf.
- 43:12SPEAKER_05: Fucking high elf.
- 43:13SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 43:13SPEAKER_04: So we're gonna destroy my high elf.
- 43:15SPEAKER_04: Am I right?
- 43:16SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: Destroying a hag eye deals 1d10 points of damage to each member of the cubby and causes the one who sustained the greatest damage to be blinded for 24 hours.
- 43:27SPEAKER_04: Ooh, okay.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Damn.
- 43:29SPEAKER_04: Um, other abilities of the cubby include um, they have access to new spells, including three times a day, they can animate dead, bestow curse, DC 17, control weather, dream, force cage, mind bleak, mirage arcana, dc eighteen, polymorph, veil, dc 19, and vision.
- 43:48SPEAKER_06: And that would be polymorphing other people, not just themselves.
- 43:52SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 43:52SPEAKER_06: Also, vision, nice.
- 43:55SPEAKER_04: Um to use one of these abilities, which requires a full run action, all three hags must.
- 44:00SPEAKER_04: Be within 10 feet of one another and all must participate.
- 44:02SPEAKER_04: Once per month, a cubby that does not have a hag eye can create one from a gem worth at least 20 gold.
- 44:09SPEAKER_06: Hmm.
- 44:10SPEAKER_06: Does it have any information about what the heart stones look like too?
- 44:14SPEAKER_06: Because I'm imagining them.
- 44:16SPEAKER_05: Okay, because I'm imagining them being like gemstones too.
- 44:19SPEAKER_05: See, at this point, I'm just imagining it being an actual like heart.
- 44:23SPEAKER_04: Maybe like a miniaturized heart.
- 44:24SPEAKER_05: That they have like crystallized or something and just carry around.
- 44:27SPEAKER_05: Or what if it's just like a rock?
- 44:29SPEAKER_05: It's just a rock.
- 44:31SPEAKER_05: It's like the philosopher's stone, like, yeah, it's just this rock I found.
- 44:35SPEAKER_05: But they have to call it a heart stone just to make people think that it's well, no, it does also do the thing.
- 44:42SPEAKER_04: Interestingly enough, um, a lot of people um have homebrewed it its appearance, and it does legitimately kind of look like a crystallized heart.
- 44:52SPEAKER_06: So into in these humbers.
- 44:54SPEAKER_05: Well then I was not expecting it.
- 44:56SPEAKER_06: Because I'm just like I'm just like tabbing through like my um crystal collection and my brain, like, which one of these would I use as a heartstone?
- 45:07SPEAKER_06: I'm not a hag.
- 45:08SPEAKER_06: Are you sure?
- 45:09SPEAKER_04: Yet.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Anyways, um, in fourth edition, I mentioned that I actually really like what we what happened in fourth edition.
- 45:16SPEAKER_05: Which is a rare occurrence.
- 45:18SPEAKER_05: It is, and it scares me a little bit.
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: But fourth edition kind of gets back to the the old school folklore the old school folklore of roots.
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: I don't love it because it stayed faithful to the original, like first edition, like the fun stuff like that.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: I love it because it feels like it stayed faithful to the original, like pre-Dungeon Dragon stuff.
- 45:38SPEAKER_06: Sick.
- 45:40SPEAKER_06: We love mythology and folklore here.
- 45:42SPEAKER_06: We do in the Dungeon Pedia House.
- 45:44SPEAKER_06: We we do.
- 45:45SPEAKER_04: That's actually probably why we did a lore podcast.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: Regardless.
- 45:49SPEAKER_04: Um in fourth edition.
- 45:53SPEAKER_04: Um this comes for primarily from the monstrous manual, uh, I believe the third one.
- 45:59SPEAKER_04: Uh they are wise in the ways of dark magic and sometimes serve more powerful evil evil beings as advisors or soothsayers, but they are cruel and dangerous fe.
- 46:10SPEAKER_06: Nice.
- 46:10SPEAKER_04: Uh hags haunt the fe wild and the loneliest places of the world.
- 46:14SPEAKER_04: Most hags are petty tyrants who prefer to bully weaker monsters and form wicked schemes against mortals unfortunate enough to live close by.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: Um they're just fucking assholes.
- 46:25SPEAKER_05: They're just fucking assholes.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: Like, this is more in and if you listen to our episode on I believe Tasha, I talked a little bit about the Baba Yaga.
- 46:35SPEAKER_04: Think about her.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: She's a hag.
- 46:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, which is kind of what I've kind of been picturing is Baba Yaga.
- 46:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, essentially.
- 46:44SPEAKER_05: First of all, Baba Yaga just the name sounds like a hag.
- 46:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 46:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, like actually in fifth edition, I'll get there.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: Oh yes.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: Okay, cool.
- 46:55SPEAKER_04: Uh the name, the naming scheme is so good.
- 46:59SPEAKER_06: I actually I also I I like them being Faye.
- 47:03SPEAKER_06: I sometimes don't like what feels like seemingly for seemingly random creatures, the um being like them being put under the umbrella of like fey, seemingly out of nowhere, when there were perhaps like more um interesting or unique explanations.
- 47:24SPEAKER_06: Because I feel like sometimes, depending on what it is, some source material kind of has the bad habit of using like the Fey Wild as just a catch-all for like natural things.
- 47:34SPEAKER_06: Oh, there's weird stuff.
- 47:35SPEAKER_06: It's like it's natural, but kind of weird.
- 47:38SPEAKER_06: Therefore, let's put it into the Fey Wild.
- 47:41SPEAKER_06: No, I get what you're saying, but like hags absolutely feel like they're just like these evil, shitty fake creatures.
- 47:47SPEAKER_04: To me, it's like, would you read about this in a legitimate fairy tale?
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: It belongs to the Fey Wilds.
- 47:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, true.
- 47:53SPEAKER_06: Um, so not like Displacer Beasts.
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 47:58SPEAKER_04: I mean, I uh yes and no on displacer beasts.
- 48:02SPEAKER_04: Uh we'll argue about that later.
- 48:04SPEAKER_04: Um Hags often know dark rituals that allow them to scry to distant places, see in the future, manipulate weather, and place curses.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: Um they gather in small groups called covens.
- 48:16SPEAKER_04: Now they're just called covens, not cubbies.
- 48:19SPEAKER_04: Umbies.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: Cubbies.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: And now I'm just imagining you like opening a cupboard and there's just these little witches in there, like, hey, we're doing something in here.
- 48:32SPEAKER_04: Um they combine their knowledge as in their covens.
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: Hags are living manifestations of nature's ugliness as Eladrin and L's body nature's beauty.
- 48:42SPEAKER_04: Uh, they're miserable and conniving and they seek to destroy those who are content in life.
- 48:50SPEAKER_04: They like to clear treasure and will often impart knowledge or free couches in exchange for valuable items.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: This is kind this kind of feels very fee-like.
- 48:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like they're not being shiny.
- 49:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like their their like sense of of evil and stuff is just overridden by shiny things.
- 49:08SPEAKER_06: Which is like a mood.
- 49:11SPEAKER_04: Uh they are native to the fee wild as fey creatures, uh, but they can be found throughout the hag.
- 49:17SPEAKER_04: Throughout the planes.
- 49:19SPEAKER_06: Throughout the hags.
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: Hags can be found throughout hags.
- 49:22SPEAKER_04: Um hags have a mastery of dark fee magic, and they like to gather secrets and make them into coveted spellcasters and oracles.
- 49:31SPEAKER_06: So when you say like dark fee magic, do you mean like unsealy or I mean so yes.
- 49:39SPEAKER_06: But also just like just like evil.
- 49:42SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's important to remember that the sealy and the unsealy are very much not good versus evil.
- 49:49SPEAKER_04: They are just two diametrically opposed to it.
- 49:51SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 49:52SPEAKER_04: Um, I would say the seely or sorry, the unsealy is more preoccupied with um basically they tend to be more associated with the darker nature of things, but I guess it's more that yeah, we'll go with that because the inspection are more attracted to dark beauty, whereas the seely are more associated with like bright beauty.
- 50:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that kind of like um not not purity, but yeah.
- 50:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's the neon versus neon versus jewel tones.
- 50:24SPEAKER_06: Oh, I was gonna say neon versus goth.
- 50:25SPEAKER_06: No, it's neon versus jewel tones.
- 50:27SPEAKER_06: And then the hags are still colorful and beautiful.
- 50:29SPEAKER_06: And then the hags are goth.
- 50:31SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 50:32SPEAKER_04: Um beautiful.
- 50:33SPEAKER_04: Actually, the hags are like neutral tones.
- 50:36SPEAKER_04: Really.
- 50:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're like, they're just like pure, pure like earth tone swampy.
- 50:41SPEAKER_06: They're like, they're like, they're not maury girls, they're maury women.
- 50:45SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 50:46SPEAKER_06: Maury crones.
- 50:48SPEAKER_06: Maury crones.
- 50:50SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's what I want to be when I'm fucking old though.
- 50:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 50:56SPEAKER_04: Hags are deadly creatures and are treacherous and as they're as treacherous as they are powerful.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: They are keepers of secrets, which they jealously guard and hoard from each other and other creatures.
- 51:07SPEAKER_04: Um, these secrets are gained through foul divinations, packs with humanoids, and network of portals that connects hags to from the Faye Wild to the mortal world.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 51:18SPEAKER_04: Adventurers who enter a bargain with a hag must undertake a minor quest against the hag's enemies, uh, which include Archfey, devils, demons, or other hags.
- 51:27SPEAKER_05: A minor quest?
- 51:29SPEAKER_05: I'm sorry, if you're seeing me up against an archfey, that doesn't seem very minor to me.
- 51:33SPEAKER_06: Just a minor little quest.
- 51:35SPEAKER_06: Just a little thing.
- 51:35SPEAKER_06: Just one quick little thing.
- 51:39SPEAKER_06: It's a quick little quest.
- 51:40SPEAKER_05: I would rather go up against another hag than a fucking archfey.
- 51:45SPEAKER_06: Depends.
- 51:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I was gonna say that depends on that which one of those things I would want to do.
- 51:50SPEAKER_04: This hag has a um has an issue with the Bobbyaga, we ain't talking.
- 51:56SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah, no.
- 51:57SPEAKER_06: Like, I I I wouldn't want to go up against any of those.
- 51:59SPEAKER_06: Like, I'll fetch her some like like nightshade mugboard or whatever, but like I don't want to go up against any of those things.
- 52:07SPEAKER_04: A dream hag, which I'll get to in a moment, uses magic to send dreams to its victims, providing clues to a journey the recipient must make, such as landmarks or desperately needed magic or lore.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: The dream hag working with the victim's enemies, foes traps, and other hazards along the way.
- 52:24SPEAKER_04: A hag can only partially control the visions, though, so sometimes even the most tedious of hags can let scraps of useful information appear to be the victim.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: Are we dream hags?
- 52:35SPEAKER_04: We might be.
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: As I mentioned, fourth edition, actually, I don't know if I mentioned this.
- 52:44SPEAKER_04: Fourth edition added three new types of hags.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: That is the pack tag, the dream hag, as I just mentioned earlier, and the mist hag.
- 52:54SPEAKER_04: Uh the dream hag, since I already mentioned that one, um, controls nightmares and strange visions uh that plague an individual during sleep.
- 53:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, is this where the rioting happens?
- 53:05SPEAKER_06: Sorry.
- 53:06SPEAKER_04: Uh seeming to provide disturbing hints of the future.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: In truth, these visions have been crafted by a dream hag to manipulate and destroy its prey.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: Uh a dream hag.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's not very that's not very nice.
- 53:18SPEAKER_05: Like, goddamn.
- 53:19SPEAKER_04: A dream hag rebels in sending its enemies into a deadly slumber.
- 53:25SPEAKER_04: By influencing the unconscious thoughts of a creature, the hag controls its body like a peppeteer.
- 53:30SPEAKER_04: Oh! It gathers and enslaves cruel creatures, including renegade drow and worshippers of Trog.
- 53:37SPEAKER_06: Huh.
- 53:37SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 53:38SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 53:39SPEAKER_06: That's also not great.
- 53:41SPEAKER_06: No.
- 53:43SPEAKER_06: So we went from like we went from Nightmare on Elm Street to like get out.
- 53:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 53:49SPEAKER_06: And now it puts its victims in the sunken place and just puppeteers their body around.
- 53:53SPEAKER_06: Awesome!
- 53:55SPEAKER_04: Next, we have the pack tag.
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, the pack tag's crude hut lies outside of the village, but close enough to draw those seeking its secrets, but distant enough to hold the curious at bay.
- 54:07SPEAKER_06: So it's literally like the witch that lives just outside of town.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but you're too scared to talk to her.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: Um, many come in search of the power, knowledge, and rituals the hag possesses.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: However, such things come at a price, which is named in the pact the hag forges.
- 54:21SPEAKER_04: Basically, this is the rumple still skin hag.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: Okay, okay.
- 54:26SPEAKER_04: I'm into it.
- 54:26SPEAKER_06: I'm into it, I'm into it.
- 54:27SPEAKER_04: The pact hag prefers negotiation to violence, although usually such a negotiation favors the hag.
- 54:33unknown: Yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: A pact hag relies on its monstrous servants to do the fighting.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: It often has a few beasts that it keeps as pets, or a group of ogres, trolls, and other brutish slaves.
- 54:45SPEAKER_04: This is the first mention of that word in here, but there we go.
- 54:47SPEAKER_06: Lovely.
- 54:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, that it has meant to its will.
- 54:51SPEAKER_06: You know, I prefer like pets.
- 54:53SPEAKER_06: Except they're just like a bunch of cats.
- 54:55SPEAKER_06: Not not like magical cats, just like normal cats.
- 54:59SPEAKER_06: They're just normal cats, but they still get shit done.
- 55:01SPEAKER_04: See, what I'm picturing is the Baba Yaga because she was like uh nice to all of her like servants and stuff, but like if you stepped out of line, she would just backhanded you and was like, stop that.
- 55:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, or killed you.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that too.
- 55:18SPEAKER_04: And then finally, for fourth edition, we have the mist hag.
- 55:21SPEAKER_04: Um, in the Feywild Deepest Forest as well, the Mist Hags.
- 55:24SPEAKER_04: They're near legendary spellcasters that have stolen countless secrets and artifacts from the mortal realm in ages past.
- 55:31SPEAKER_04: Adventurers and heroes now search for the remote layers where the mist hags have hidden this wealth.
- 55:36SPEAKER_04: However, the hags are still jealously guard their relics and secrets, so those who go in search of these caches often end up as trophies.
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: Oh shit! Uh, when faced with a direct threat, a mist hag relies on the haze of bay touch mist that surrounds it to keep foes at bay.
- 55:56SPEAKER_04: The hags sends servants against foes while streaking them from the edge of the frame.
- 56:00SPEAKER_04: So basically they like to stay in the mists.
- 56:03SPEAKER_04: That's kind of where the name comes from.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:05SPEAKER_04: It uh prefers to the endless of the eight of undead and creatures that are tough and brutish.
- 56:10SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 56:10SPEAKER_04: Damn.
- 56:11SPEAKER_04: Alright, so we made it.
- 56:14SPEAKER_02: We made it.
- 56:15SPEAKER_04: We made it to fifth edition.
- 56:17SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 56:18SPEAKER_04: Um you guys are gonna be so mad at me.
- 56:21SPEAKER_04: I had to cut out a whole ecology out article.
- 56:24SPEAKER_04: What?
- 56:25SPEAKER_04: What?
- 56:26SPEAKER_04: It wasn't as interesting as the entirety of fifth edition.
- 56:29SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 56:30SPEAKER_04: If you guys are interested, I will do a reading of the ecology article for our um for our um Patreon.
- 56:37SPEAKER_04: Patreon.
- 56:38SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's interesting though.
- 56:39SPEAKER_06: I don't think it's ever happened where the ecology article is less interesting than the accompanying monster manual or whatever it is.
- 56:48SPEAKER_04: I'm about to start talking about face or sorry, um, hag society, hag reproduction.
- 56:55SPEAKER_04: Yes! Yes! Fuck yeah! All of this.
- 57:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, and this wasn't in the ecology?
- 57:03SPEAKER_04: Not in the ecology.
- 57:04SPEAKER_04: What the shit?
- 57:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's- I the ecology article's brilliant, but I decided not to talk about the ecology article so I could talk about fifth edition.
- 57:14SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, okay.
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: Like I said, if y'all are interested, I'll I'll record myself talking about maybe even all three of us, I don't know, talking about the ecology article and put it on our Patreon.
- 57:25SPEAKER_04: But fifth edition.
- 57:26SPEAKER_04: Fifth edition.
- 57:28SPEAKER_04: After we take a real quick break.
- 57:29SPEAKER_05: Damn it! Oh my god, you suck.
- 57:32SPEAKER_04: You hag.
- 57:35SPEAKER_04: Hey everybody, thank you guys so much for listening to this very long but very in-depth hag episode.
- 57:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:42SPEAKER_05: It's hagful.
- 57:44SPEAKER_04: I don't even have a response to that.
- 57:46SPEAKER_05: Uh that's that's fine.
- 57:49SPEAKER_04: But if you two like shiny things like the people of the Fae Wilds, I have something for you.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 57:56SPEAKER_04: It is that we still have our affiliate partnership with metallic dice games, and metallic dice are very shiny.
- 58:02SPEAKER_06: Yes, we are very shiny.
- 58:03SPEAKER_06: Honestly, even non-metallic dice are.
- 58:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 58:06SPEAKER_04: And like a Fae, you need more.
- 58:08SPEAKER_06: You do.
- 58:08SPEAKER_05: You do.
- 58:09SPEAKER_05: You you might not know it, but you do.
- 58:11SPEAKER_06: Even if you don't think you do, you do.
- 58:13SPEAKER_04: I know I do.
- 58:15SPEAKER_04: And when I get to uh when I pick out my dice that I'm gonna buy, I am going to use offer code Dungeon Pedia for 10% off my entire order, and so can you maybe you can get your own set of uh heartstone dice.
- 58:29SPEAKER_05: Well, I don't know if that's a thing, but it needs to be.
- 58:32SPEAKER_05: I don't think it is a thing, but you might be able to find something that is relatively crystal.
- 58:36SPEAKER_06: I mean, I think that your your heartstone could just be like anything your heart desires.
- 58:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so just you know, but also ones that would look like crystallized hearts like suspended in resin would be pretty cool.
- 58:48SPEAKER_06: You're welcome.
- 58:49SPEAKER_06: You can have that idea for free.
- 58:53SPEAKER_04: Again, that's uh metallictized games.com, offer code Dungeon Pedia every 10% off your entire order.
- 58:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, we still, of course, have our Patreon if you'd like to support us more directly, and that's just at Dungeonpedia.
- 59:03SPEAKER_04: As I previously mentioned, if you guys are interested, I will record the ecology article and post it onto our Patreon.
- 59:09SPEAKER_04: And that will be available to what is it, the$5 nuts here?
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: That sounds right.
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: So I'll triple check that and then just kind of.
- 59:19SPEAKER_04: Um, and that I mean, we always appreciate that.
- 59:22SPEAKER_04: And I we are working on ways to give you guys back, give more back to you guys who support us financially with our podcasting fees.
- 59:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 59:33SPEAKER_04: Yay, fees.

- 1:00:44SPEAKER_04: We have a dedicated following follower of listeners that I know has purchased quite a bit from Nintel's games every time.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, hey Audible.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_04: Hey Audible.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_04: Hey Audible.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_04: How are you doing?
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_04: Hey, HelloFresh.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_04: Um we we are we talk about how much we love HelloFresh for free.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_06: So like I'm gonna honestly, if we don't get any emails from them, I'm gonna censor all those names.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_06: Because they don't get the free promo.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_05: Don't forget, uh, subscribe to us wherever you listen to get notifications of our new episodes when they go live.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_05: Also, if that platform allows it, go ahead and throw in a rating and possibly a review.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_05: That helps out so much.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_05: And also just, you know, continue to spread the word.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_04: Tell that witch that lives in the cabin at the end of the block.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_04: You don't know why she lives in a cabin because everyone else seems to live in normal houses, but for some reason her house looks a little older and a little creepier, and you're not quite sure why.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_05: Just don't like accept any bargains from her.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_06: Yeah, don't and maybe just to be safe, like, don't eat any of her food.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_06: Don't go inside her house.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_06: Actually, just maybe don't.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_05: No, just write a note on a piece of paper, fold it into an airplane, and just throw it on the porch and just be done.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_05: There you go.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_06: Do that, yeah.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_06: Also, thank you to Alexander Nakarata for the use of our theme song Blacksmith.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_06: You could stand outside of her house with a boombox and play it.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_04: Like actually, on that note, a few weeks ago, we had someone, um, Ari actually go into the Discord and ask how we actually found that song.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_04: And at this point, I want to actually mention Alexander Nakarata has a band camp and also a SoundCloud, so that if you like Blacksmith and want to see if you can find any of his music for your royalty-free needs, you can go there and purchase or tip him for any of the uh anything that he has that you like.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_04: He has a really great catalog.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_05: He does.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_05: It's nice, and I'm glad he uh opened up those other things too.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_05: But with that, you left us on just a ridiculously stupid cliffhanger.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_06: So let's go back and talk about 5th edition, an entry in the 5th edition monster manual that was somehow better than an ecology article.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_06: You'll see, and it's not just the monster manual.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_06: Oh shit.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_04: Okay, alright.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_05: So, what is this thing that is better than an ecology article?
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: Okay, it has so much more Okay, no, I'm not even gonna preamble any further.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_04: I will start with the monster manual that's small and easy, um, and then we'll move on.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_04: Um, so in fifth edition, hags are definitely more into the Fey.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_04: Like we started doing it in fourth edition, we're full on Fey now.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_04: Alright.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_04: Um so hags represent all that is evil and cruel.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_04: Uh they resemble withered crones, and there's nothing mortal about them, even though they they look like these tiny little ladies.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_04: Um, their forms reflect only the wickedness in their hearts.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_04: Hags are cankers on the mortal world.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_04: That is from the monster manual itself.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_06: So they're they're like painful but altogether mildly irritating, and you should serve them in apple cider vinegar if you want them to go away.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_04: Um they're um they have withered faces with long frayed hair, horrid moles and warts that dot their blotchy skin, and they have long, skinny fingers that are tipped by claws that can slice open flush with the touch.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_04: Y'all wanted them to use their fingernails as swords.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_04: You got it.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, finally.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_04: Um their simple quotes are always tattered and filthy.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_04: All hags possess an affinity for spellcasting.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_04: They can alter their forms and curse their foes, and their arrogance inspires them to view their magic as a challenge to the magic of the gods.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_04: They blaspheme at every opportunity.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_04: Holy shit.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_04: Okay, so like what's the problem with these guys again?
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_02: Blaspheme.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_04: Um, hags mean themselves in darkly whimsical ways.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_04: Cleaning monikers such as Black Morwin, Peggy Pignel, Grandmother Titchwillow, Jana Shog, Rotten Ethel, and Auntie Wormtooth.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_04: Okay, and those are all Sug.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_06: Okay, also those are all alternatively names for different strains of weed.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_06: Nana Raw.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_06: Literally.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_06: Hey, can I have a gram of grandmother Tichwillow, please?
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_06: Oh, go ahead and throw in a little bit of nana sug too.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_06: Nanashu.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_02: Nana Sug.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_04: Holy shit.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_04: Okay, and actually, I am going to skip ahead.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_04: In a different different supplement, it actually gives a hag name chart.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_04: Oh god, this hags often have whimsical names with a dark twist.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_04: So you can roll this chart with a D12.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_04: Uh titles include Auntie, Black, Cackling, Dismal, Dread, Driftwood, Granny, Old, Rickety, Rotten, Turtleback, and Wicked.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_04: Holy shit.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_05: Turtle back.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_04: First names include Agatha, Agnes, Ethel, May.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_04: Basically grandma names.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_04: Just a whole list of grandma names.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's just nothing but grandma names, which I mean I'm Mom don't.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: And then last names are all first you got bone chewer.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_04: The classic.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_04: Frog wort, green teeth, grizzle gums, shackle bones, holy shit.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_04: Midden heap, mud wallow, pig tooth, titge willow, toe stealer, twig mouth, and worm wiggle.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_02: Toe stealer.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_04: So I got a I got a set of D12 right here.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: Old Oh god.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_04: So we're creating a hag.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_04: We're gonna create a hag.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_04: Dread.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_04: Dread.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_04: Eight um Peggy.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_04: Dread Peggy.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_04: That's already powerful.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_04: Twigmouth.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_04: Dread Peggy Twigmouth.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_05: Dread Peggy Twigmouth.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_05: The best hag ever.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_04: Alright, so.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: Are you all ready to find out how hags reproduce?
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_02: Um in fifth edition.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_04: Specifically.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_06: Okay, I think okay, go, go.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_04: Um, hags propagate by snatching and devouring human infants.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say, I remembered.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_04: Hansel and Gretel.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_06: I was gonna say, I remembered that baby stealing was often was often an aspect.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_04: After stealing a baby from its cradle or its mother's womb.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_02: Whoa.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_04: The hag consumes the poor child.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_04: A week later, the hag gives birth to a daughter who looks human until her 13th birthday, whereupon the child transforms into the spitting image of her hag mother.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_06: Um I want to know how that works, just like genetically, like physiologically.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_04: I would guess um, like if I were going to fake science my way through this, it would work as the hags magic or biochemistry basically goes in and rewrites their daughter's genetic code.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_04: After feeding herself.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_05: That's definitely a way to phrase that.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_04: Um, hags sometimes raise the daughters they spawn.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_04: Get cousins.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_04: However, a hag might choose to return the child to the grieving parents.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_02: Oh shit!
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_04: Oh, tomorrow's your 13th birthday, baby girl.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_05: That is horrible.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_05: Horrible, but also very hag-like.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_06: Amazing.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_06: Also, that's such a long game.
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_06: Like, they think that their like baby is is gone for like a like a week or something.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_06: Or or or you go the stealing from the mother's womb route.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_06: And return it to the father.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and return it to like the the widowed father who's like, oh my god, you know, like my wife died, and my my baby daughter went missing.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, this, that, and the other.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_06: And then she's like miraculously returning his oh shit.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_06: Oh, it's horrible.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_06: Oh, I oh it is a little more.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_04: That's not great.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_04: That's not great.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_04: So hags are arrogant to a fault and believe themselves the most cunning creatures in all of the realms.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_04: Right, and they treat all others as inferior.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_04: Naturally.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_04: Even even so, they love dealing with mortals as long as those mortals show the proper respect and deference.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_04: Again, think back to the Baba Yaga.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_04: She'll be she'll give you anything you want as long as you're polite.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_04: Um over their long wives, hags accumulate all kinds of knowledge on everything, but specifically lore, dark creatures, and magic.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_04: Um or trade.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_04: Are we are we hags?
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_05: We might be hags.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_05: We might be hags.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_05: I mean, the evidence is kind of mounting here.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_05: I don't really know how to feel, but it's definitely there.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_04: Um, hags enjoy what watching morals bring about their own rounds.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_04: Oh shit.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_04: And a bargain with a hag is always dangerous.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_04: Terms usually involve demands to give up something dear.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_04: Um, especially if the lost thing diminishes or negates the knowledge given gained through the bargain.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Oh still skin.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_06: Oh, fadoofa.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_06: Oh, geez.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_06: I love that though.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_06: I kind of love that.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_04: Uh hags love the macabre.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_04: Uh I did not pronounce that wrong, right, did I?
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_04: No, macabre.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_04: Macabre, that's right.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_04: The R-E is.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_04: Uh hags love the macabre and the student are garb with dead things and accentuate their experience with bones, bits of flesh, and filth.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_06: Okay, I was gonna make a same joke, but it started to get less and less the same throughout the sentence.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_04: So Well, stupid of bones.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, just stop in bones, and that's okay.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_04: They uh they nurture blemishes and pick out wounds to produce sweeping, separating flesh.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_06: Okay, I just I just pick at wounds to because I have an issue.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_04: Uh um attractive creatures evoke disgust in a hag, uh, which might help such poor creatures by disfiguring or transforming them.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_05: Help them.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_04: Uh they embra the embrace of the disturbing and unpleasant extends to all aspects of a hag's life.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_06: I don't know why that's so funny to me.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, a hag might fly in a magic giant skull, landing it on a tree shape to resemble an enormous headless body.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_04: Hard!
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: Whoa.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_04: Um, another might travel with a menagerie of monsters and slaves kept in cages and disguised by illusions to lure unwary creatures close.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_04: Hags sharpen their teeth on millstones and spin cloth from the intestines of their victims, reacting with glee to horror to the horror their actions invoke.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_06: So they're just edgy for the sake of being edgy.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_04: Yes, these they're all 14-year-old boys.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_06: They're like 14-year-old boys who just look like adult women.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_06: Or not adult women, but like elderly women.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_06: No dead.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_06: Just swell, that's edgy.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_06: Okay, that like that also kind of fucks though.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_05: So very strange though.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_05: Like.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_05: Um, man.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_05: This is weird.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_04: Uh hags maintain contact with each other and share knowledge.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_04: Um even though um they basically through such contact, it's likely that every given hag knows every other hag in existence, but they don't like each other at all.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_04: Um, they do abide by an ageless code of conduct.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_04: Hags announce their presence before crossing into another hag's territory, bring gifts when entering another hag's dwelling, and break no oaths given to other hags, as long as the oath given or isn't given with fingers crossed.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_06: Oh shit.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_06: So they they're it they're essentially like a big family.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_04: Like they they they I assume there is magic which is broken when fingers are crossed.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_04: Right, yeah.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_06: I mean that's a thing, isn't it?
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_05: Um I don't know much about they also break their fingers.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_06: Probably.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_06: Oh, what if that's like, alright, we're gonna make this pact, but before we break this pact, I'm gonna break all of your fingers so that way you physically can't.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_04: And you'll break all of mine, it'll be great.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_05: I don't know how you're gonna do that with broken fingers, but you'll figure it out, I'm sure.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_05: Um, hammer.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_04: Um, some people think that the hags um codes of conduct re uh apply to all.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_04: However, it's just hags.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_04: And a hag might find it amusing to make them think that they are bound to such code with them, but they're not.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_04: Oh shit.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_05: They're not bound at all.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_04: Um so hags dwell in dark and twisted woods, bleak moors, storm sea coast.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_04: Anywhere you think you might find a hag, you're gonna find a hag.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_04: Um uh but actually over time, the landscape around a hag's lair reflects the creature's noxiousness.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, the land attack itself can attack and kill trespassers.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_04: Ooh.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_04: Uh trees are twisted by darkness and attack passer-by while vines will actually drag creatures off.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_04: Um battle stinking fro fogs turn the air to poison, not frogs.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_04: Fogs.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_04: Uh turn the air to poison and consume pools of quicksand and sinkholes that consume unwary wanderers.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_06: Okay, but it would kind of be cool if there were frogs too.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_04: I mean, we can also find out.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_05: Oh, so you can also throw frogs in there too.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah, sure.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_04: Why not?
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah, there's just a fucking bunch of poison dirt frogs, whatever.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_04: That's great.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_04: When hags are forced to work together, they form covens, and it's back to basically everything previously mentioned when they are when they're together, they're more powerful.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_04: However, they're very selfish creatures in fifth edition.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_04: And uh a coven is made up of hags of any type, all of whom are equals within the group.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_04: However, each of the hags desires more power over the others.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_06: Right, given their nature.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_04: A coven consists of three hags so that any arguments between two hags can be settled by the third.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_04: If more than three hags come together, as might happen if two covens come together, the result is usually chaos.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_02: That's funny.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_04: Um their shared spell casting in third edition, uh, they must be within 30 feet of each other, and they actually share spell slots among themselves.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_04: Um their first level spells are identity uh identified rave sickness, and then there's also moving on, whole person, locate object, bestow curse, counterspell, lightning bolt, phantasmal killer, polymorph, contact other plane, scrying, and eye-bite.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_05: Fucking phantasmal killer though.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_05: And I'm sorry, eye-bite?
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_04: I don't actually know what that one is.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_04: Give me just a mere moment.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_05: You just like jump.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_05: Do they bite your eye or do they bite their own, like, disembodied eye?
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_06: I mean, given that it's sixth level, it's gotta be.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_04: So for the soul seration, your eyes become an inky void imbued with dread power.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_04: One creature of your choice within 60 feet of you that you can see must say on a succeed on a wisdom saving throw or be affected by one of the following effects duration.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_04: Asleep or panicked.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_04: Sure.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_04: Um, so uh a coven can craft a magic item called a hag eye, which is made from a real eye coated in varnish and often fitted to a pendant or other wearable item.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_04: Hag eye is usually entrusted to a minion for safekeeping and transport.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_04: Hag and the coven can take an action to see what the hag eye sees if the hag eye is in the same plane of existence.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_04: Same thing.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_04: Um, it destroyed each coven member will take 3d 10, if not 3d 10, psychic damage and to blind it for 24 hours.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_04: Um a hag coven can only have one hag eye at a time, and creating a new one requires all three members to perform a ritual.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_04: The ritual takes one hour, and hags can't perform it while blinded.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_06: So they can't just immediately start creating a way one at least a full day.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_04: Which, I mean, that's that's that's good.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_04: During the ritual, if the hags take any action other than performing the ritual, they must start over.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_04: So in third edition, we have third edition, or sorry, in fifth edition, we have uh the green hag, the night hag, the sea hag.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_04: So that's all we have.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_04: The honest hag, bye.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_04: Uh the three that were thrown in into uh fourth edition, bye.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_05: Bye.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_05: They just ramp they culled those down to Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_05: However many.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_04: Green hags are still uh dwelling in dying forests, lonely swamps, misty moors, so kind of a mist hag, um, and make their homes in caves.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_04: Uh they manipulate other creatures into doing their bidding, masking intentions, uh deception, that sort of thing.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_04: They lure victims in by mimicry, so that's all the same.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_04: And they drive unwanted visitors away by imitating the cries of fierce beasts.
- 1:18:00SPEAKER_04: Uh they have an obsession with tragedy.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_04: Green hags revel in the failings and tragedies of other creatures.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_04: They derive joy from bringing people low and seeing hope turn into despair, not just for individuals, but for whole nations as well.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_06: I mean, we we all know somebody like that.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_06: Also, they also just really like um certain types of plays as well.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_06: Um I think everyone knows night hags prefer comedies, though.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_04: Speaking of nighthags, I actually really like what um Fifth Edition did for night hags.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_04: Uh they are sly and subversive.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_04: Nighthags that want to see the virtuous turn to villainy, love turn into obsession, kindness turn to hate, devotion to disregard, generosity to selflessness or selfishness.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_04: Uh nighthags take perverse joy in corrupting mortals.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_04: And this is what I really like.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_04: Nighthags were once creatures of the Feywild, but their foulness saw them exile to Hades long ago, where they didn't degenerated into fiends.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_04: Now, whatever the fiend turn into fiends.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_04: Whatever.
- 1:19:04SPEAKER_04: But I like that they are Feywild creatures and they kind of brought it back to first edition by forcing them into Hades.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I like that.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_06: Also, like just like they're they were too foul for the Fey.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_06: Which I mean, I'm not I, you know, again, like, not that like Fey are all evil, but I feel like Fey a lot of the time are like kind of pretty chill with whatever.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:19:29SPEAKER_06: As long as you don't.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_04: Well, actually, we'll get into that.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_04: Um, night hags are since spread across all of the lower plains.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_04: Um, while a humanoid sleeps, a night hag can strangle the person ethereally, that's all the same.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_04: While humanoid sleeps, a night hag can strangle the person ethereally and intrude upon its dreams.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_04: Any creature with true sight can see the hag's spectral form straddling its prey.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_04: No.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_04: The ethereal hag fills her victim's head with doubts and fears in hope of tricking it into performing evil acts in the waking world.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_04: The hag continues her nightly visitations until the victim finally expires in its sleep.
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_04: If the hag has driven her victim to commit evil deeds, she traps its corrupted soul in her soul bag for transport to Hades.
- 1:20:12SPEAKER_05: Oh, soul bag?
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_05: I like it.
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_04: The soul bag is um this black sack made out of stitched flesh.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, lovely.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_04: A soul bag can hold only one evil soul at a time, and only one and only the night hag who crafted the bag can catch a soul with it.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_04: Crafting a soul bag takes seven days and a humanoid sacrifice whose flesh is used to make the bag.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_04: Naturally.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, yeah.
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_04: The night hag also still has the heartstone, which is now given a description.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_04: This lustrous black gem allows a night hag to become ethereal while it is in her possession.
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_04: Uh, the touch of a heartstone also cures any diseased.
- 1:20:47SPEAKER_04: Crafting a heartstone takes 30 days.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_04: Um, if either of these items go missing, the night hag will go to great lengths to retrieve it or create an as creating a new tool takes time and effort.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_04: Seven to thirty days specifically.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_05: I mean seven days not too bad.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_05: 30! 30! You're kinda getting there, yeah.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_05: Like, I don't know, that seems just a bit too long, but how long is it gonna take them to get the item back?
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_04: Depends on who's told who took it and where they went.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_04: Um, so sea hags live in dismal and polluted underwater layers surrounded by marrow and other aquatic monsters.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_04: Um, beauty drives the sea hag into fits of anger.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_04: When confronted with something beautiful, the hag m might simply attack it or deface it.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_04: If something beautiful gives hope, a sea hag wants it to cause despair.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_04: If it inspires courage, the sea hag wants it to cause fear.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_04: Sea hags are by far the ugliest of all the hags, with slimy scales covering their pallid skin.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_04: Sea hag's hair resembles seaweed and covers her emaciated body, with her glassy eyes seeming as lifeless as a doll's.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_04: Um, although a sea hag can hide her true form under a veil of illusion, the hag is cursed to forever appear ugly.
- 1:22:02SPEAKER_06: So it's it's like ugly and then like still like still ugly, but not like immediately like suspiciously revolting.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_06: And doesn't make you like just like this is an ugly sea elf.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_04: So there is so much information in this next part that I'm really going to have to try and summarize as much as I can.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_04: Because um hags are one of the few one of the creatures that is basically given a huge backstory in Bolo's guide to monsters, specifically for like DM's role-playing and even making one as a playable character.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_04: Basically, in Bolo's guide to monsters, hags are uh represent a corruption of ideals and goals.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_04: They delight in seeing the innocent brought low and their inhuman monsters uh twisted by evil.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_04: They're shape changers and blasphemers and etc.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_04: etc., all the same.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_04: Uh hags perceive ugliness as beauty and vice versa.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_04: They rebel in having hideous appearances and all that.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_04: Because both the Sealy and Unsealy court appreciate and revere true beauty among the Fei, hags are never found in either place.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_04: Almost never.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_04: The Summer Queen and the Queen of Air and Darkness, which are the Seely Queen and the Unsealy Queen, respectively, are recognize that hags have valuable knowledge and impressive magic, but they cannot abide by this of the stain on the beauty of their surroundings, which is why hags are exiled.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_04: Because they're hideous.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_04: That's why they're driven out.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_04: Night hags, especially.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_02: Well, damn.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_04: Rare few are accepted.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_04: Um they're either so influential that their entry can't be refused, or young and humble enough to be willing to use their magic to put on a prettier appearance in the court.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_04: Obvious exception being sea hags.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_04: Um other hags aren't usually upset by the exclusion.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_04: They like to be left alone to their own schemes, as the bay queens tend to be whim whimsical and also prone to whims.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_02: Because, you know, saying.
- 1:24:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_04: Um and they like to be able to talk to both sides and talk badly about both sides.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_04: So hags are virtually immortal with a life span greater than that of even dragons and elves.
- 1:24:25SPEAKER_04: The oldest of wisest are often called grandmothers by other hags.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_04: Some grandmothers are nearly as powerful as some of the arch some of the arch fang.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_05: Just really leaning into the old lady thing here.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_04: Hags of lower but respectable status are called aunties.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_04: Auntie gains her status from being very old and a member of a powerful covenant, serving directly under a grandmother, or having many offspring, whether adopted or birthed.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_04: Like Baba Yaga having adopted hers, or as previously mentioned, her reproduction.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_04: Um, hags delight in corrupting others.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_04: Um, the desire to orchestrate the downfall of others is why so many hags make their homes near humanoid settlements.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_04: Hags make bargains differently than how devils operate.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_04: Devil might approach a mortal to make a deal because it wants the individual to become tainted with evil so that when the victim dies, its soul goes to the nine hells.
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_04: Hags are usually content to wait and conduct their own business and wait for people to come to them.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_04: Hags want to bring more the mortal low during its life as compensation for fulfilling her end of the bargain.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_04: Devils barter with souls as a commodity laws.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_04: Hags just enjoy making people miserable.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_05: Nice.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_05: Just, you know.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_04: Hags actually, despite seeming like they don't understand anything, hags actually understand mortal device desires and vices better than most mortals do, and they know how to manipulate people by preying on those qualities.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_04: Uh, by offering a proposal that seems or actually is fair, chances are that the hag is pursuing a hidden agenda.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_05: Don't trust a hag.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_04: Bolo's Guide to Monster uh reintroduces the honest hag and introduces the beer hag.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_04: Um, the honest hags are mountain and hill hags, um, so they have more in common with giants and that sort of thing.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_04: They love tormenting weak and fearful and seeing others feel fear.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_04: Beer hags live in wintry lands and they favor snow-covered mountain peaks.
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_04: They are gaunt, have blue-white skin, white hair, and are known for their gray wooden staffs, which give them access to extraordinary ice magic.
- 1:26:31SPEAKER_04: Uh, beer hags love seeing mortals freeze to death.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_04: Jesus Christ.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_05: That's just fucking rude.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_05: Um freeze to death.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_05: Why?
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_04: Hags that live long enough or have the necessary resources can alter their very own basic nature, leaving behind their old physiology and adopting that of a hag of an appropriate new environment.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 1:26:57SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_04: Um, hags are selfish by nature and uh cherish their independence, so they would rather adapt to a new form than seek someone else's help.
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_04: Big move.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_04: At the same time, each hag recognizes that they're sisters in a way and have a dark sorority or sisterhood.
- 1:27:18SPEAKER_06: Even if they don't really like each other.
- 1:27:20SPEAKER_04: Yes, correct.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_04: Finally, this is the last thing I'm gonna touch on, even though I would I could go on forever about these things, they're so cool.
- 1:27:28SPEAKER_04: In Von Richten's Guide to Ravenlaw, there is a new type of um, I guess, race that you can play, um, which is called the Hexblood.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_05: I heard very briefly about that.
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_04: Hex bloods are individuals infused with eldritch magic, fey magic, or mysterious witchcraft.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_04: They enter bargains with hags to gain their deepest wishes, but eventually find themselves transformed.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_04: Um, these changes are evident of a hag's influences.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_04: Years that split in four.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_04: Points, skin of lurid shades, and long hair that regrows if cut, and an irremovable living crown.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_04: Along with these marks, hexbloods manifest hag-like traits such as dark vision, a variety of magical methods to beguile the senses and avoid the same.
- 1:28:17SPEAKER_04: While many hex blood gain their lineage after making a deal with their hag, others reveal their nature as their age.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_04: So, like if their parents uh made a deal with a hag.
- 1:28:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:28:27SPEAKER_04: The crown is called an elder cross or a witch's turn.
- 1:28:31SPEAKER_04: It's a living, garland-like part of a hexblood's body that extends from their temples and wraps around their head, uh, which serves as a visible visible mark between a bargain.
- 1:28:41SPEAKER_04: Sorry, visible mark of the bargain between hag and hex blood, a debt ode or a change to come.
- 1:28:47SPEAKER_04: Um, the hexblood origins can be seeking a child your parents made a bargain with a hag, you were the result.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_04: Faye kidnapper swapped you and your parents' child.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_04: A coven of hags lost one of its members, you were created to replace the lost hag.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_04: You were cursed as a child.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_04: The deal with spirits of the force transformed you into a hexblood, now free of the curse.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_04: The original curse, not the um hex blood curse.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_04: That one stays.
- 1:29:10SPEAKER_04: Uh you began life as a fake creature, but accidentally changed, but an accident changed you and forced you from your home, and a slided drew, transformed you, and bound you.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_04: You have a domain of dread.
- 1:29:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:29:22SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_02: Um I like it.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_04: So I think you have an ancestral legacy, which is you can have dark vision, an eerie token, that sort of thing.
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_04: You have hex magic, which is you can cast disguised self and hex spells with this trait.
- 1:29:39SPEAKER_04: Once you cast either of these spells with the trait, you can't cast that spell again, so you finish a long rest.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_04: Hags can undertake a ritual to irreversibly transform a hexblood they created into a new hag.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_04: Either one of their own kind or that of or one that embodies the hex blood's nature.
- 1:29:57SPEAKER_04: This requires both the hag and hexblood be in the same place and consent to the lengthy ritual.
- 1:30:02SPEAKER_04: Circumstances most hex bloods shun, but might accept over the course of the centuries.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_04: Once a hexblood undergoes this irreversible ritual, they emerge as a hag.
- 1:30:10SPEAKER_05: Good lord.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:30:12SPEAKER_05: There's a lot of, I guess, variations on how to create a hag.
- 1:30:17SPEAKER_05: Create a hag here.
- 1:30:18SPEAKER_04: Well, as a fifth edition, there are really just two.
- 1:30:21SPEAKER_04: Hexblood or birth.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_04: Baby.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 1:30:24SPEAKER_05: Okay, I mean.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_05: Fair.
- 1:30:27SPEAKER_05: Just damn though.
- 1:30:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:30:29SPEAKER_05: The birth thing is still probably like worse.
- 1:30:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's just.
- 1:30:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:30:35SPEAKER_06: It kind of depends.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_06: It's just a lot.
- 1:30:37SPEAKER_06: Neither of them are very good.
- 1:30:38SPEAKER_06: No.
- 1:30:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, true.
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_05: Neither of them are really great.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_04: Kinda sucks, really.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_05: It really does.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_05: It all just it all sucks.
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_04: Anyways, that's hags.
- 1:30:53SPEAKER_04: There's more, but like I had to cut down a lot just to fit it all in.
- 1:30:58SPEAKER_04: Hags part two?
- 1:31:00SPEAKER_04: No, no, Hags Part 2.
- 1:31:02SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_05: No, I think in this case it's just gonna be if you want to.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_05: I summarized a lot.
- 1:31:09SPEAKER_05: Go to the notes and you can read them.
- 1:31:11SPEAKER_05: True.
- 1:31:12SPEAKER_05: Because uh let me just point out, there are 18 pages of notes.
- 1:31:16SPEAKER_05: I cut through a lot of fifth editions.
- 1:31:19SPEAKER_04: Like fifth edition really just expanded on Hags so much.
- 1:31:23SPEAKER_04: Uh there's a deity in Hags.
- 1:31:25SPEAKER_04: I didn't even get to talk about that, or a deity for Hags, I didn't even get to talk about that.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_04: But like, yeah.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_05: But yeah, there's still a lot.
- 1:31:37SPEAKER_05: Like, it is still a lot.
