- 0:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that Chuck Norris was chasing the Tyrannosaurus Rex.
- 0:05Speaker 2: The Rex was not chasing the Jeep. Murray!
- 0:08Speaker 3: Murray, you there?
- 0:10Speaker 2: You love sandwiches, huh? Let's go to 80. His name
- 0:14Speaker 2: is Bo. Wow. That's prime time, baby. I had a
- 0:18Speaker 2: crush on Betty Rubble.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I honestly, until after the segment ended and we went
- 0:22Speaker 1: to commercial break, had no idea that Jonathan.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Coachman was black. He cost them the game last night.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Although they won the game. You're listening to Stugatz & Company.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Stugatz & Company is presented by FanDuel and the FanDuel Sportsbook.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I sit down today. There's a Think About It Thursday
- 0:37Speaker 1: on the sheet. But the discussion before the show, and
- 0:41Speaker 1: I have never heard this much discussion about this particular topic,
- 0:45Speaker 1: is the ticker.
- 0:47Speaker 2: And I'm not talking about our hearts.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm talking about the ticker, the scroll that you see
- 0:51Speaker 1: on the bottom of your television screen during college football Saturdays,
- 0:55Speaker 1: NFL Sundays, pretty much all the time. We've become accustomed
- 0:59Speaker 1: to it. Why is it going away, Taylor? Do we
- 1:01Speaker 1: have any idea? This is an outrage, by the way.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:04Speaker 3: ESPN saying they want a cleaner broadcast.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Less clutter.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Less clutter.
- 1:09Speaker 2: How do you feel about it, Mikey?
- 1:11Speaker 4: This makes me so mad. I mean, in a week
- 1:14Speaker 4: where we lost Dolly Parton and Tim Curry, this is
- 1:17Speaker 4: just up there with another terrible loss for the American people.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:22Speaker 4: I mean, who doesn't love the damn ticker?
- 1:24Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. I mean, tragedies happen in threes. We know that.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I'll say something, Mikey. I could do without the ticker.
- 1:34Speaker 1: What?
- 1:35Speaker 3: I think the ticker.
- 1:36Speaker 4: How is that possible?
- 1:37Speaker 3: I think the ticker is a nice addition to a broadcast.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:42Speaker 3: But by week two, I will forget that the ticker
- 1:44Speaker 3: was even there in the first place. Because for the
- 1:46Speaker 3: most part, when I'm watching a game. I know what
- 1:49Speaker 3: scores I'm keeping my eye around the country, and I'm
- 1:51Speaker 3: watching the updates on my phone because I want to
- 1:54Speaker 3: see the down and distance. I want to see where
- 1:57Speaker 3: they are in the drive. All things that really are
- 1:59Speaker 3: not on the ticker. The ticker is basically there just
- 2:02Speaker 3: to give you the score and the time left in
- 2:04Speaker 3: the game. You're not getting a ton of information from
- 2:07Speaker 3: the ticker that you're not just getting already on your phone.
- 2:10Speaker 2: They've made advancements in the ticker. Sorry, Mikey. They have.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean, sometimes some tickers, all tickers are different. I
- 2:15Speaker 1: feel like they do give you down and distance and
- 2:17Speaker 1: situations and all that.
- 2:18Speaker 3: No, the ones on the ESPN broadcast, they're going too fast.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Oh, I see.
- 2:25Speaker 4: First off, they're trying to make it a two screen experience.
- 2:28Speaker 4: They want you watching ESPN and on the ESPN app
- 2:31Speaker 4: so that you can follow all that stuff. And frankly,
- 2:34Speaker 4: I won't use the ESPN app for scores now just
- 2:37Speaker 4: because they took away the ticker. And what the worst
- 2:40Speaker 4: part is, I think ESPN had the best ticker in
- 2:43Speaker 4: the game because it would flash yellow when a team scored,
- 2:47Speaker 4: and then it would flip over, and you're sitting there going, oh,
- 2:49Speaker 4: is it a field goal or is it a touchdown?
- 2:51Speaker 4: And it would flip the six, and you're like, yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 4: they got the touchdown. That's all right. And not only that, Taylor,
- 2:56Speaker 4: now you've got me having to look at my phone
- 2:59Speaker 4: instead of watching the screen when there's a big upset.
- 3:02Speaker 4: If there's a big upset brewing, that's when I'm watching
- 3:05Speaker 4: the ticker. If there's... How will I even know if
- 3:08Speaker 4: there is one without the ticker?
- 3:09Speaker 1: How is he supposed to flip over to that game
- 3:11Speaker 1: unless he sees it on the ticker?
- 3:13Speaker 2: I mean, that's what it is. That's what it's there for.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm with Mikey on this.
- 3:16Speaker 4: The ticker is my alert.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm not buying that Taylor is okay with
- 3:19Speaker 2: the ticker going away. I got to be honest with you.
- 3:21Speaker 3: In the year 2026, when there are so many things
- 3:25Speaker 3: to worry about in my daily life, the ticker going
- 3:29Speaker 3: away is not even in the top 100 things of
- 3:33Speaker 3: things I'm worried about.
- 3:34Speaker 4: It's number two for me.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Oh, I'm watching Auburn, Alabama, and there's a score in
- 3:40Speaker 3: the Missouri game. Let me see how they scored. Let
- 3:43Speaker 3: me open my phone.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:45Speaker 4: It's a field goal. How do you know there's a
- 3:47Speaker 4: score in the Missouri game, Taylor?
- 3:49Speaker 3: Because I have my phone open to the scores to
- 3:51Speaker 3: see what's going on.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Right, but then you're not paying attention to the actual
- 3:53Speaker 1: game that's on your television screen.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I mean.
- 3:56Speaker 3: The phone is a staple already for a college football Saturday.
- 4:00Speaker 3: A phone is a staple. A second screen is a staple.
- 4:03Speaker 3: A laptop is a staple.
- 4:04Speaker 2: And so is a ticker. I mean, if you saw.
- 4:07Speaker 3: My setup for college football Saturdays, it looks like a
- 4:11Speaker 3: command center. It looks like the replay command center, how
- 4:16Speaker 3: many screens and how many things I have going on
- 4:19Speaker 3: where I'm not getting a ton. The only thing the
- 4:21Speaker 3: ticker I'll say is if I see something, if I
- 4:25Speaker 3: see a closer game, I might just be alerted to it.
- 4:29Speaker 3: 10 seconds sooner, and then I'll switch over to that game.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I mean, those 10 seconds mean everything.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Listen, I don't want two screens on my phone.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I don't want to look at my phone. I'm tired
- 4:41Speaker 2: of my phone. No, I don't.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Because, you know, as somebody who has probably placed a
- 4:46Speaker 4: few wagers, I don't want to keep looking at my wagers.
- 4:49Speaker 4: I don't want to because I'll drive myself insane. I
- 4:51Speaker 4: like to put my phone away. Not only that, Taylor–
- 4:56Speaker 4: I'll use a perfect example. We've been talking about Ohio State.
- 4:58Speaker 4: If they lose to Ball State in week one, I
- 5:01Speaker 4: will never turn that game on unless all of a
- 5:04Speaker 4: sudden it's like, you know, Ball State's up in the
- 5:07Speaker 4: third quarter. Maybe I got to put that on. I'll
- 5:09Speaker 4: never know they're up in the third quarter unless the ticker.
- 5:13Speaker 1: How are we supposed to know when Ball State is
- 5:15Speaker 1: up 21 points on Ohio State?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Ryan Day loses that game and still keeps his job.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I mean, seriously, need a ticker.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I'm laughing because Brian Schottenheimer on my television screen is
- 5:25Speaker 1: quoted as saying, we got the right guys. And I'm
- 5:28Speaker 1: just thinking, imagine a coach coming out before the season,
- 5:31Speaker 1: just two weeks before the season, saying, hey, you know what?
- 5:33Speaker 2: We don't have the right guys.
- 5:38Speaker 4: It's like I'm in the worst shape of my life
- 5:41Speaker 4: as opposed to, oh, yeah, I came into camp, best
- 5:43Speaker 4: shape of my life. One guy comes out, man. I
- 5:46Speaker 4: let myself go this offseason.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Is there a single coach that would say we don't
- 5:51Speaker 1: have the right guys? What coaches are thinking? They're all
- 5:55Speaker 1: going to say the same thing. We've got the right guys.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But what coaches are thinking, hey, we don't have the
- 6:00Speaker 1: right guys?
- 6:02Speaker 4: Didn't Vrabel essentially said that? Hey, we're not a deep team.
- 6:05Speaker 4: We don't have the right depth.
- 6:06Speaker 2: He did say that.
- 6:07Speaker 4: He kind of said it. He kind of said, we
- 6:08Speaker 4: don't have the right guys.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he's making excuses already. How about that?
- 6:12Speaker 4: We have some of the right guys, but we don't
- 6:14Speaker 4: have all the right guys.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Is it Todd Munkin? Is he the coach of the Browns?
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 1: He might say we have the right guys, but he
- 6:22Speaker 1: knows deep down inside, he don't have the right guys.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I mean.
- 6:28Speaker 4: I want a coach to come out and give a
- 6:30Speaker 4: real cryptic message and just be like, we have all
- 6:33Speaker 4: the right guys except for one.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And they go, which one?
- 6:37Speaker 4: He knows who he is. And every single player is going,
- 6:40Speaker 4: damn it, am I the guy? I better work harder.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I might be the one guy he's talking about.
- 6:46Speaker 2: That guy would be the Falcons head coach, right? I mean,
- 6:51Speaker 2: you hear Tua is so bad.
- 6:53Speaker 1: He's been so bad in Michael Penix's absence, not just
- 6:56Speaker 1: in the games, but in practice as a leader just everywhere.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Tua has been so bad that Michael Penix is going
- 7:03Speaker 1: to get that job.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It's insane. It's his job to lose.
- 7:06Speaker 4: He just got cleared for 11-on-11 drills, let alone actually
- 7:11Speaker 4: playing in a game. He just got cleared to do
- 7:14Speaker 4: drills with 22 people, and they're like, yeah, he's still
- 7:17Speaker 4: beating Tua.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Right, yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I don't know what to do about this ticker. Taylor
- 7:21Speaker 1: wants to stay on the ticker. I'm outraged about the ticker.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I'm not certain he realizes. It's one of those things
- 7:26Speaker 1: you're not going to realize how useful it was until
- 7:29Speaker 1: it's gone.
- 7:30Speaker 2: That's it.
- 7:31Speaker 3: On NFL, you're watching an NFL game on CBS. There's
- 7:35Speaker 3: no bottom line ticker. You're watching an NFL game on Fox.
- 7:37Speaker 3: There's no bottom line ticker. What's the difference between an
- 7:41Speaker 3: NFL Sunday and a college football Saturday?
- 7:45Speaker 4: Easy. That is absolutely false. There is a scrolling score.
- 7:49Speaker 4: And not only that, CBS gives you all the fantasy stuff,
- 7:52Speaker 4: which I love. And they're going.
- 7:54Speaker 2: To add him shine at least 15 times a quarter.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Am I misremembering? CBS doesn't have a bottom line ticker.
- 8:02Speaker 4: They absolutely do. And they give you fantasy updates during
- 8:05Speaker 4: it too.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I'm almost positive they don't have a bottom line ticker.
- 8:08Speaker 3: We're going to have to get to the bottom of this.
- 8:09Speaker 2: We'll look it up. How are you going to get
- 8:12Speaker 2: to the bottom of it?
- 8:14Speaker 4: And I would also say the NFL is a little
- 8:15Speaker 4: bit different because most of us have red zone on
- 8:19Speaker 4: in some capacity. You're like, okay, I'm following along. even
- 8:23Speaker 4: if it's just one screen.
- 8:26Speaker 1: There are so many games on a college football Saturday.
- 8:30Speaker 1: The NFL only has a certain amount, obviously.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Listen, it's just become a part of me.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I love that damn ticker, and I want it in
- 8:38Speaker 1: my life. I don't want things leaving my life. I
- 8:41Speaker 1: want my phone to leave my life. That's the thing
- 8:44Speaker 1: I don't want to deal with on the weekend, the ticker.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It's such a benign thing. I love the ticker. I'm
- 8:49Speaker 1: going to miss you, ticker.
- 8:51Speaker 3: So, a quick Google search. CBS football broadcasts do not
- 8:55Speaker 3: use a bottom-of-the-screen score ticker during live games.
- 8:57Speaker 2: No.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Major broadcast networks like Fox and NBC also air their
- 9:01Speaker 3: football games without an on-screen ticker.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That's Sunday Night Football for NBC.
- 9:07Speaker 4: That's false.
- 9:07Speaker 2: They have a score bug there in the corner.
- 9:09Speaker 4: That's false. They do.
- 9:11Speaker 2: A score bug. Yeah. So, ESPN is the only one
- 9:16Speaker 2: who had the ticker?
- 9:19Speaker 3: That's what it looks like.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I feel like Fox had a ticker. I do.
- 9:22Speaker 4: I feel like they all have a ticker.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Right. Well, now none of them have a ticker.
- 9:26Speaker 3: This is the Mandela effect where I think you guys
- 9:28Speaker 3: are imagining that broadcast networks have tickers on the bottom.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Of the screen. It is such a part of me
- 9:33Speaker 1: and becomes such a big part of my life, I
- 9:36Speaker 1: see it on every single channel.
- 9:37Speaker 2: How about that? I'm watching HBO and I feel like
- 9:40Speaker 2: there's a ticker.
- 9:44Speaker 4: This person is currently sitting in the Game of Thrones,
- 9:47Speaker 4: in the Iron Throne.
- 9:49Speaker 1: That's what's I mean, it's football scores scrolling across your
- 9:53Speaker 1: television screen.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Who wants that to go away? Who doesn't want it?
- 9:57Speaker 4: Not only that, the Yankees get put up there. It's like, oh, yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 4: the Yankees are on.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's cool.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I don't need less clutter. I need more clutter when
- 10:05Speaker 1: I'm watching the Jets. To distract me from watching what
- 10:08Speaker 1: it is I'm watching.
- 10:09Speaker 3: You know what I think happened? ESPN had to let
- 10:13Speaker 3: go of the guy who was in charge of the
- 10:15Speaker 3: ticker because they had to make room for more of
- 10:18Speaker 3: the kicker, Pat McAfee.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Oh.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Feel good about that one?
- 10:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Not really.
- 10:28Speaker 4: They let somebody go, and they're like, oh, does anybody
- 10:30Speaker 4: else know how to do the ticker? And they're like, no,
- 10:32Speaker 4: you just got rid of the one guy that knows
- 10:33Speaker 4: how to do it. Pat McAfee gets another $ 20 an hour.
- 10:36Speaker 4: And they go, oh, all right, I guess we won't
- 10:38Speaker 4: do the ticker then.
- 10:39Speaker 3: It was ticker, kicker. You get it?
- 10:42Speaker 2: No, we get it. The rhyme, yep, all of it.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I'm just asking how you felt about it, that's all. Lonely.
- 10:48Speaker 2: As you should.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Like the ticker, lonely now. I mean, just tick it
- 10:57Speaker 1: away and no one's watching. Yeah, Mikey.
- 11:01Speaker 4: I'm just so upset that I'm now going to see
- 11:04Speaker 4: another half inch of the bottom of the screen that
- 11:07Speaker 4: I don't need to see.
- 11:08Speaker 1: But at least Brian Schottenheimer has the right guys. It's
- 11:12Speaker 1: unbelievable football, man. We're getting close. Taylor, what did you
- 11:27Speaker 1: learn here about Mike Francesa's son? This is interesting to me.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I am aware that Francesa has a son. I know
- 11:35Speaker 1: his son plays football. What did you learn that was
- 11:37Speaker 1: shocking to you?
- 11:39Speaker 3: So he has a son, Harrison Francesa, who works in
- 11:42Speaker 3: sports media.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Of course.
- 11:44Speaker 3: But what words, when I say the word Mike Francesa,
- 11:47Speaker 3: what would you say are the words most synonymous with
- 11:49Speaker 3: his name?
- 11:50Speaker 4: Pope.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Keep going.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Back after this.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Keep going.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Win-loss. Win-loss.
- 11:55Speaker 3: More broad, more broad of a term. Or more broad
- 11:59Speaker 3: of maybe a region.
- 12:02Speaker 4: New York.
- 12:03Speaker 3: When you think Mike Francesa, bingo, Mikey, you think New
- 12:06Speaker 3: York sports.
- 12:07Speaker 2: What a stupid question, of course.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, they go together like peanut butter and jelly.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Mike Francesa, New York sports.
- 12:14Speaker 2: They do.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Which is why finding out his son is a Chiefs
- 12:19Speaker 3: and Suns fan. So disappointing.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Really?
- 12:22Speaker 4: Really.
- 12:23Speaker 3: I don't want to tell anybody how to raise their kids,
- 12:25Speaker 3: especially Mike Francesa. I respect Mike Francesa. I love Mike Francesa.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yes, we all do.
- 12:31Speaker 3: But when you are New York sports, you cannot let
- 12:35Speaker 3: that happen in your household. That's embarrassing that your son
- 12:38Speaker 3: grows up. The son of a New York sports icon.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And he says, I'm not going to root for the Jets.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I'm not going to root for the Giants. I'm not
- 12:46Speaker 3: going to root for the New York Knicks. Who am
- 12:48Speaker 3: I going to root for? Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas
- 12:50Speaker 3: City Chiefs and the Phoenix Suns.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:53Speaker 3: The Phoenix Suns haven't been relevant in this kid's entire lifetime.
- 12:56Speaker 2: What's his first name? Harrison. Maybe Harrison Francesa. That's a
- 12:59Speaker 2: great name. has a perfectly good reason as to why
- 13:03Speaker 2: he's a fan of those teams. Maybe mom? I don't know.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Here's your reason why you should be a Knicks fan.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Your dad's the Pope. Yes.
- 13:10Speaker 2: 20 shares. Put it on the poll.
- 13:16Speaker 1: If your dad is the Pope, do you automatically become
- 13:19Speaker 1: a Knicks fan? because I think I'm with you on that.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Joe Beningo, this would not happen over his dead body.
- 13:25Speaker 1: He would never allow this to happen.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I mean, never.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Remember, we had Mike Norvell on, and we asked him
- 13:30Speaker 1: if his kids wanted to go to Miami, and he
- 13:32Speaker 1: said certain color schemes don't.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Work in our house.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Not going to have it. No green and orange.
- 13:39Speaker 1: So you're outraged that Francesa allowed this to happen. Where
- 13:42Speaker 1: is your outrage exactly? Is it with Mike Francesa or
- 13:45Speaker 1: Harrison Francesa?
- 13:47Speaker 3: So I don't think it's on the sun. The sun
- 13:49Speaker 3: just grew up. having the free reign of whatever team
- 13:52Speaker 3: he wants to cheer for.
- 13:53Speaker 2: And his son chose the Suns.
- 13:58Speaker 4: How do you feel now?
- 14:02Speaker 2: Slightly better than Taylor. Just slightly. A little less lonely,
- 14:06Speaker 2: but slightly better.
- 14:09Speaker 3: So I'm not going to put the blame on Harrison Francesa.
- 14:15Speaker 3: This blame is falling entirely... on the dad's shoulder, on
- 14:19Speaker 3: Mike Francesa's shoulder, as much as I hate to say it,
- 14:23Speaker 3: because I think you do have a certain obligation as
- 14:26Speaker 3: somebody without kids. Mikey, I feel like, Mikey, you would
- 14:30Speaker 3: be a good person to weigh in on this. You
- 14:32Speaker 3: have to pass down your sports fandoms to your kids,
- 14:36Speaker 3: and if you're as big as Mike Francesa is in
- 14:38Speaker 3: the New York region, there's a responsibility on him to say,
- 14:43Speaker 3: my kid is going to carry this legacy and be
- 14:45Speaker 3: New York sports, not The Phoenix Suns.
- 14:50Speaker 4: I don't disagree. When you are, it's not even like
- 14:54Speaker 4: he picked the other New York team. It's not even like,
- 14:57Speaker 4: you know, Mike likes the Jets, and he was like,
- 14:59Speaker 4: you know what, I'm going to be a Giants fan.
- 15:01Speaker 4: You'd be like, okay, I get it. It's still the
- 15:03Speaker 4: market share.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:05Speaker 4: The Phoenix Suns, the Kansas City Chiefs, first off, front
- 15:08Speaker 4: runner on the Chiefs.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 4: You were raised better than that. Secondly.
- 15:12Speaker 2: He missed out on the Knicks. I mean, Jesus. Go ahead.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Now I'm going to listen to anything Francesa ever says
- 15:19Speaker 4: through the vein of if he says anything about the Chiefs,
- 15:22Speaker 4: I'm like, where'd he get that from his son? His
- 15:25Speaker 4: son's giving him takes now.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It's not like his dad was passing along bad teams,
- 15:30Speaker 1: to your guy's point.
- 15:31Speaker 2: It's the Giants and the Yankees. And the Knicks.
- 15:34Speaker 3: So we don't know about his favorite baseball team. If
- 15:36Speaker 3: you're a Kansas City Chiefs fan, I'm assuming you're a
- 15:39Speaker 3: Yankee fan because it's just convenient at that point. Right.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Can we get Harrison Francesa on the show?
- 15:44Speaker 1: We've had Colin Russo on the show, Christopher Mad Dog
- 15:46Speaker 1: Russo's son.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Can we get Harrison Francesa on?
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm efforting a podcast, Harrison Francesa and Colin Russo.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Are you?
- 15:56Speaker 4: Have them co-host it with Mike Golick Jr. and T-Bob.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Oh, geez. How do you feel, Colin?
- 16:02Speaker 1: How do you think Colin Russo would feel about Harrison
- 16:04Speaker 1: Francesa being a fan of the Phoenix Suns?
- 16:07Speaker 2: I mean. That would be a great show. Fireworks.
- 16:14Speaker 3: I think this is more of an indictment on today's kids, actually,
- 16:18Speaker 3: because I don't think kids today are growing up saying,
- 16:21Speaker 3: I'm a New York Knicks fan or I'm a New
- 16:25Speaker 3: York Yankees fan. They're looking around and saying, in the
- 16:29Speaker 3: social media age where highlights are available on your phone,
- 16:32Speaker 3: one of the reasons why we don't need a bottom
- 16:34Speaker 3: line ticker, by the way.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Yep.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Kids are looking at their phone and saying, who's the
- 16:38Speaker 3: best player in the league? I'm going to be that
- 16:40Speaker 3: person's fan. Like, I'm not a Warriors fan. I'm a
- 16:42Speaker 3: Steph Curry fan. I'm not a Chiefs fan. I'm a
- 16:44Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes fan. And I think it's an indictment on
- 16:47Speaker 3: kids today.
- 16:47Speaker 1: In fairness to Harry Francesa, okay, in fairness to him,
- 16:52Speaker 1: when Mike was doing his show, those teams were good.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Harrison, how old is Harrison Francesa?
- 16:58Speaker 1: Because I'm guessing he grew up during a time where
- 17:01Speaker 1: the Knicks were lousy, where the Giants have been every bit.
- 17:05Speaker 2: As bad as the New York Jets over the last
- 17:07Speaker 2: 15 years. Go ahead.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Boo-hoo, the Knicks were lousy. Like all sports teams go
- 17:13Speaker 3: through periods of times where their teams are lousy.
- 17:17Speaker 2: You're from New York.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Your dad is the Pope of New York. Go through
- 17:21Speaker 3: a couple of bad seasons. The bad seasons that I
- 17:24Speaker 3: went through as the Knicks made that championship even better,
- 17:27Speaker 3: where it was like I could have grew up and said, oh,
- 17:29Speaker 3: I'm a Cleveland Cavaliers fan because LeBron James is here.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I understand all of that.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm just guessing that Harrison was seeing bad year after
- 17:37Speaker 1: bad year after bad year after bad year after bad year.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Dad, what are you talking about? You told me these
- 17:43Speaker 2: teams were great.
- 17:43Speaker 1: They're not great. They're lousy every freaking year. And therefore,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I'm going to root for Kansas City and Phoenix.
- 17:49Speaker 2: How about that? I mean.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I'm going to defend the Franceses here for just a
- 17:53Speaker 4: quick minute.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I'm with you.
- 17:55Speaker 4: At least they're not rival. He's not rival fans. He's
- 18:00Speaker 4: not a fan of the Dallas Cowboys or the Philadelphia
- 18:03Speaker 4: Eagles or the Boston Celtics. At least he's like, you
- 18:07Speaker 4: know what? If I'm not going to be in this
- 18:10Speaker 4: bubble where I should be, don't get me wrong, absolutely
- 18:13Speaker 4: should be in the bubble, I'm going to go way out.
- 18:15Speaker 4: I'm going to go way out of it.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Western Conference in the NBA.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I'll go AFC in the NFL so I'm not rooting
- 18:21Speaker 1: against the Giants all the time.
- 18:23Speaker 4: At least I'll give him that.
- 18:26Speaker 3: So the kid from New York deserves credit for not
- 18:29Speaker 3: picking a Boston team?
- 18:31Speaker 2: I mean, I think that's where Mike draws the line.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I mean, that bar is ridiculously low.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I just tiptoed over that bar that you just said there,
- 18:44Speaker 3: that the New York kid didn't pick a Boston team,
- 18:46Speaker 3: and he deserves a pat on the back for not
- 18:48Speaker 3: being a Red Sox fan.
- 18:49Speaker 1: He chose two benign teams that no one cares about.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean, nobody. I mean, the Chiefs, maybe.
- 18:58Speaker 3: I just added somebody to our podcast network, too. Who?
- 19:00Speaker 3: Craig Carton's son.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Oh, wow. All the sons. Does Booms have a son?
- 19:08Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Oh, that's right.
- 19:10Speaker 4: You're listening to the Nepo Radio Network. Next up, Coattails.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Please make this happen. It should be the Coattails Network.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Our drive time spot is Jack Collinsworth. And Noah Eagle.
- 19:24Speaker 2: And Noah Eagle, I was going to say. He beat
- 19:27Speaker 2: me to the punch.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I'm going to defend Noah Eagle here for a second.
- 19:30Speaker 2: He's great.
- 19:31Speaker 3: There's times where you see nepotism at work and you're like, man,
- 19:36Speaker 3: kudos to nepotism because nepotism hit one out of the park.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Noah Eagle is fantastic.
- 19:41Speaker 2: He's great. Yes. Like he'd be exactly where he is
- 19:43Speaker 2: without his dad.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And so was collinsworth by the way he's fantastic they're
- 19:50Speaker 1: both great broadcasters and so is colin russo by the way.
- 19:53Speaker 4: It's great michael jr.
- 19:56Speaker 2: Oh well that goes without saying i got you go
- 19:58Speaker 2: joe i mean that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I asked him to join us today he hasn't responded
- 20:05Speaker 1: you want to uh retract your statement No.
- 20:08Speaker 4: I think we should make the whole thing run by
- 20:12Speaker 4: Rachel Wiener.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Done.
- 20:15Speaker 1: She might start hosting the show soon. You guys going
- 20:21Speaker 1: to carry her for a couple of weeks?
- 20:22Speaker 2: You have to. I mean, you carried me for a
- 20:24Speaker 2: year at least.
- 20:28Speaker 3: How up to tune is she on the New York Yankees?
- 20:31Speaker 2: She hates the Yankees. Oh, wow.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Really? Really. She's a Mets fan. Oh, okay. She's a
- 20:36Speaker 2: Jets fan.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Respect. See? There's the perfect example.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yes, but I regret doing it to her.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Yeah, but Stu, in the moments like the Knicks championship
- 20:46Speaker 3: where you're able to celebrate with your daughter and see,
- 20:50Speaker 3: I passed this fandom onto my daughter. If for some reason,
- 20:54Speaker 3: some miracle, the New York Jets ever win a Super
- 20:57Speaker 3: Bowl and you're able to celebrate it with your daughter,
- 21:00Speaker 3: won't you be like, wow, I am so glad that
- 21:03Speaker 3: She didn't become a Chargers fan because they have Justin Herbert,
- 21:07Speaker 3: and Justin Herbert was her favorite quarterback. It's ridiculous.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, well, what's ridiculous is you have the Jets winning
- 21:13Speaker 2: the Super Bowl.
- 21:16Speaker 4: You know, Taylor, the more you talk, the more I'm listening.
- 21:19Speaker 4: And I'm just sitting there going, you know, if I'm
- 21:21Speaker 4: a Jets fan and my kid's a Jets fan and
- 21:23Speaker 4: they eventually win the Super Bowl. We are going to cry.
- 21:26Speaker 4: We are going to celebrate. If my kid becomes a
- 21:29Speaker 4: Chiefs fan and the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, my
- 21:31Speaker 4: kid's going to be happy, and all I'm going to
- 21:32Speaker 4: be thinking is, fuck you. Right.
- 21:34Speaker 2: I'd punish my kid.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Go clean your room.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I'm so tired of you Jets fans. Jets fans are
- 21:43Speaker 3: woe is me. And then Mikey sending in our group
- 21:46Speaker 3: text yesterday, a report that Mike Tomlin might make a
- 21:49Speaker 3: comeback next season with the Jets. Lamar Jackson's going to
- 21:53Speaker 3: force a trade.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It was Jason La Conforna who made the report. Mikey
- 21:57Speaker 1: sent it to us. We haven't even started this season,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but that's how Jet fans roll. We're already focused on
- 22:02Speaker 1: next year.
- 22:03Speaker 2: How about that?
- 22:04Speaker 4: For the record, Taylor, I sent it because I was
- 22:07Speaker 4: laughing about it. I sent it not because I'm like, ooh,
- 22:10Speaker 4: look at this. I sent it because I was like,
- 22:12Speaker 4: look at this stupidity that we're already getting.
- 22:16Speaker 1: It's the most excited I've been since the last AFC
- 22:18Speaker 1: Championship game with Sanchez.
- 22:19Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 22:20Speaker 3: I'll tell you how I perceived it. I perceived it as,
- 22:23Speaker 3: this season's going to be so bad, I need some
- 22:26Speaker 3: fan fiction to get me excited for this season. Lamar Jackson,
- 22:30Speaker 3: Mike Tomlin, I'm like, guys... We haven't even finished preseason
- 22:33Speaker 3: football yet. Let the Jets kick off week one and
- 22:36Speaker 3: disappoint you before we start talking about, is it Lamar
- 22:39Speaker 3: Jackson going to be the next Jets quarterback? Is it
- 22:41Speaker 3: Joe Burrow going to be the next Jets quarterback? Who's
- 22:44Speaker 3: going to replace Aaron Glenn at head coach? Like, let
- 22:46Speaker 3: this team fail first. They're going to fail, but let
- 22:48Speaker 3: them fail first.
- 22:49Speaker 1: How about you let us dream and dream big? I mean,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I am more excited at who might be our quarterback
- 22:55Speaker 1: next season than I've ever been for the actual quarterback.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I mean.
- 23:00Speaker 3: So I've been slamming Harrison Francesa this entire podcast about
- 23:04Speaker 3: his fandom and Mike Francesa being a bad dad.
- 23:07Speaker 2: You love the Francesas.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I love the Francesas, obviously. I also forgot that I
- 23:11Speaker 3: gave up my Jets fandom.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Ah, see?
- 23:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 2: We didn't. Hypocrite.
- 23:15Speaker 4: We didn't.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Imagine when Lamar becomes the quarterback of the New York Jets, okay?
- 23:24Speaker 2: And it's not on the scroll because there's no more ticker.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I mean, see.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Taylor, you gotta, you gotta learn the circle of the
- 23:32Speaker 4: jets and how they're used by all these people. The
- 23:36Speaker 4: jets are the boogeyman to every other team. Every, every
- 23:40Speaker 4: person who wants a new contract, every coach who wants
- 23:43Speaker 4: a job, they go, well, I guess the jets look
- 23:46Speaker 4: pretty good. just enough to make the other person it
- 23:49Speaker 4: happened with Vrabel Vrabel was like no I want the
- 23:52Speaker 4: Patriots job but there's not a job available I guess
- 23:54Speaker 4: I'll meet with the Jets and all of a sudden
- 23:55Speaker 4: the Patriots like all right all right come on over
- 23:57Speaker 4: come on over it happened with Tyreek Hill oh the
- 24:00Speaker 4: Jets are the Chiefs are going to trade Tyreek Hill
- 24:03Speaker 4: to the to the Jets and the Dolphins are like
- 24:05Speaker 4: all right here's another pick come on over that's what
- 24:09Speaker 4: the Jets are they are the boogeyman to everybody yep.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Stu, you just mentioned about finding out if Lamar Jackson
- 24:15Speaker 3: went to the Jets from the bottom line ticker. And
- 24:18Speaker 3: once you said that, I realized what the bottom line
- 24:21Speaker 3: ticker is. The bottom line ticker are these NFL insiders
- 24:25Speaker 3: that you guys love where it's like breaking news, blank
- 24:29Speaker 3: is signing with blank. And then 20 minutes later, if
- 24:32Speaker 3: that person never reported it, the teams would just announce
- 24:35Speaker 3: them themselves.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Right, I understand that.
- 24:37Speaker 3: So you're kind of just cutting out the middleman of
- 24:39Speaker 3: a pretty useless thing that people are just hanging on
- 24:43Speaker 3: to just for, I don't know, learning about it two
- 24:46Speaker 3: minutes faster?
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yeah, two minutes means everything. I mean... Game of seconds.
