- 0:02Speaker 1: Uh uh by watching them. Uh, obviously they have a
- 0:06Speaker 1: uh they have a style of player that's a little
- 0:08Speaker 1: bit different than what you normally normally see.
- 0:12Speaker 2: And I think anytime you can be different, I think that.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Sets you apart.
- 0:19Speaker 2: People have to prepare for you a little bit differently
- 0:22Speaker 2: than they do for everybody else.
- 0:26Speaker 1: It's uh uh, it's unusual for somebody to you know,
- 0:30Speaker 1: sub you know, five players, four players at a time,
- 0:37Speaker 1: and I and I think it takes them getting some
- 0:39Speaker 1: getting used to and.
- 0:42Speaker 2: The the the n the just the the way the.
- 0:50Speaker 1: The the game is.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You have to keep your composure against them, and I
- 0:55Speaker 2: I think she does a great job of forcing you to.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Adapt to them. You know. And except for.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Uh three minute or two minute stretch there in the
- 1:07Speaker 2: third quarter, you know, I thought we.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Handled it great. You know. The the pressure wasn't an
- 1:12Speaker 1: wasn't an issue.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But you know, uh, that's the that's the beauty of
- 1:19Speaker 2: of of playing like that, you know, is you just
- 1:23Speaker 2: need a couple couple minute spurt and it can change
- 1:27Speaker 2: the game. So certainly it's much more difficult to play
- 1:31Speaker 2: down here than it than it was the last three
- 1:34Speaker 2: or four years, you know, and to win in in
- 1:40Speaker 2: in these environments.
- 1:41Speaker 1: You know you've gotta have you know, you gotta have tough,
- 1:46Speaker 1: mature players to be able to handle this In earlier
- 1:50Speaker 1: those weeks that you like, how many stall conference teams
- 1:52Speaker 1: in the middle of over the up your conference season
- 1:54Speaker 1: to ask you whider team helped comparison.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Their other teams that sliver conference? What did you use
- 1:59Speaker 3: store of ourt these days?
- 2:00Speaker 1: The boss, I think you know, we've s we've talked
- 2:07Speaker 1: a lot about, uh, you know, the the perception that U.
- 2:22Speaker 2: When w W when we played a really good When
- 2:26Speaker 2: we play a really good team on the road, you know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: you need uh contributions from your best players. And yeah,
- 2:37Speaker 2: uh I it's hard if you don't get that. And
- 2:42Speaker 2: I thought Sarah and KK were great today. You know,
- 2:45Speaker 2: KK learned a lot today. She grew up a lot today.
- 2:49Speaker 2: You know, this is Sarah's first environment in a non
- 2:52Speaker 2: conference game like this. You know she's only a freshman.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I thought Aubrey gave us, you know, some eight minutes.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So I think we.
- 3:05Speaker 2: We found some things that we can build on. The rebounding.
- 3:08Speaker 2: We knew it was gonna be a problem. You know,
- 3:14Speaker 2: we play with our small lineup so often, so we
- 3:19Speaker 2: gotta fix that. That's been an ongoing thing all year,
- 3:24Speaker 2: cause it was pretty even at halftime.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and but the bottom line is, you know, we
- 3:36Speaker 1: have a we have some players on our team that
- 3:38Speaker 1: are s supposed to be our best players and they
- 3:40Speaker 1: gotta play back. So there was two.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Can you just have trouble getting going and see play
- 3:47Speaker 3: there an a few of these bigger games.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Now you just what do you feel like it is
- 3:50Speaker 1: kind of the the blot with her in terms of
- 3:52Speaker 1: being able to to start as hot as chance and be.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I don't know, I I n I don't know. I mean, uh,
- 4:05Speaker 2: it's it's a real kind of conundrum. You know, Page
- 4:07Speaker 2: wants the ball in her hands all the time. Then
- 4:10Speaker 2: when they trap her, she don't want the ball in
- 4:11Speaker 2: her hands. So now we try to get her moving
- 4:14Speaker 2: from you know, one thing to another, moving without the ball, and.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You know, it's so so so.
- 4:24Speaker 2: We've gotta come to some sort of definitive thing here
- 4:27Speaker 2: how how we're gonna handle it.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But right now it's not it's not the winning edge
- 4:34Speaker 1: for sure. I'm passing up stuff, you know, like I
- 4:42Speaker 1: don't get it. I really don't.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Goes. This is really a good sting team and the
- 4:53Speaker 3: five to twenty from the yard, is is surprising? Or
- 4:57Speaker 3: when you come because you shoot so well, is it
- 4:58Speaker 3: does that? As far as like you to do, do
- 5:01Speaker 3: you fit to leak foot bowl? What was going on
- 5:03Speaker 3: in the r.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Some of them were probably yell advised, you know, or
- 5:09Speaker 1: or are in a or rushed, you know. I thought
- 5:14Speaker 1: like Aubrey's passed the Serrah that was.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Theoretically a three point shot, which I don't know why
- 5:21Speaker 2: she even took it, but it ended up being passed
- 5:23Speaker 2: the Sarah for a laugh. Uh, So some were really
- 5:27Speaker 2: ill advised. I th I thought most of 'em, we
- 5:30Speaker 2: have pretty good looks at all of 'em, and we
- 5:35Speaker 2: just didn't make 'em. And we we normally do, like
- 5:40Speaker 2: you said, you know when I when you look at
- 5:43Speaker 2: the statue points from turnovers twenty four nineteen Yukon points
- 5:49Speaker 2: in the pain forty two forty two, second chance points
- 5:52Speaker 2: twelve eleven, fast break points twenty six for Ukon, fourteen
- 5:55Speaker 2: for Tennessee, bench points twenty six for Ukon, twenty for Tennessee.
- 5:59Speaker 2: You think we won the game, huh, but that's not
- 6:02Speaker 2: really in the indicative stat sheets.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Lie a lot to a L to a lot of people.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Because there was big plays that had to be made,
- 6:14Speaker 2: big stops that we had to get, big bucket that.
- 6:17Speaker 1: We have to make, and crucial points of the game,
- 6:22Speaker 1: and we didn't. We didn't make 'em.
- 6:24Speaker 2: And you know, when two good teams are playing, that's
- 6:28Speaker 2: the that's the difference maker.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Had going back to.
- 6:34Speaker 1: The gas only your second time playing and is kind
- 6:36Speaker 1: of environment, including Notre Dame.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Suppose what's supposed to the most about her ability to stay,
- 6:40Speaker 3: to stay for you? So you stay, how just jug
- 6:42Speaker 3: down when you guys hear off the.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Bench without energy, Yeah, I it's it's I it's a
- 6:49Speaker 2: little bit comforting, I guess to know that you're bringing
- 6:56Speaker 2: someone off the bench that started thirty games or something
- 7:02Speaker 2: like that last year and and started in a Final
- 7:05Speaker 2: four game, and so it's not just your average bringing
- 7:09Speaker 2: somebody off the bench.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And so I I think she's a starter that just
- 7:13Speaker 1: happens to wait before she gets on the court and
- 7:17Speaker 1: and she's getting uh a better feel for herself what
- 7:20Speaker 1: she wants to do. Yeah, there were a couple of
- 7:22Speaker 1: things she did today that make you scratch her head.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But I thought she was I thought she was the
- 7:27Speaker 2: most competitive player for Yukon today and and I think
- 7:32Speaker 2: that means a lot to her an and I I
- 7:37Speaker 2: think getting getting more comfortable making perimeter jump shots, I
- 7:43Speaker 2: think will help a lot for her. But I like, uh,
- 7:47Speaker 2: I like what I saw out of her tonight.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, how does your.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Parient take care? You do?
- 7:55Speaker 1: You know?
- 7:55Speaker 3: As well of anybody? And with these two teams, and
- 7:57Speaker 3: this series has many health but when's.
- 7:59Speaker 1: All the beast?
- 8:00Speaker 2: Was there something to be said for teams sort of
- 8:03Speaker 2: taking its responsibility making.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It the robbery again? Is this maybe ask some fire
- 8:08Speaker 1: back into a robbery?
- 8:08Speaker 3: I mean, I I'm all, remember when you guys played
- 8:10Speaker 3: twice a year?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, it ended up being three times. It's right,
- 8:14Speaker 1: a lot of times. Yeah. That's why I understand why
- 8:18Speaker 1: people boomed me when I walked in. Man, they should
- 8:21Speaker 1: they should be thanking me for bringing my team back
- 8:23Speaker 1: down here after uh, after it was missing for so long. God,
- 8:27Speaker 1: that's how you treat your friends. I don't know what
- 8:29Speaker 1: you do. I I I do think there was a
- 8:35Speaker 1: time when this game meant a lot to a lot
- 8:39Speaker 1: of people. The game of women's basketball looked forward to
- 8:45Speaker 1: this game. People who weren't women's basketball fans look forward
- 8:47Speaker 1: to this game.
- 8:49Speaker 2: The players certainly looked forward to this game, and it
- 8:54Speaker 2: took on a life of its own. And and like
- 8:57Speaker 2: anything else, you know, other people have caught up. There's
- 9:01Speaker 2: other big, big name teams, there's other big name rivalries.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Uh, as it should be.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And I think both of you kind of Tennessee kind
- 9:11Speaker 2: of laid the groundwork for what's happening today. And so
- 9:17Speaker 2: there are more big games, there are more big ribberies,
- 9:19Speaker 2: there are more more big TV games, and you know,
- 9:23Speaker 2: can this still be one of them?
- 9:25Speaker 1: Uh? I don't, honestly, why not? You know, I would
- 9:30Speaker 1: think that.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You know, those people that enjoy watching good basketball are gonna,
- 9:39Speaker 2: you know, if all the games are like this with
- 9:41Speaker 2: a different ending, I think people really enjoy watching these games.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Cool good, So CHR. What would you say is the
- 9:51Speaker 1: difference of play styles you saw from Tennessee tonights versus
- 9:54Speaker 1: Tennessee teams in the past.
- 9:55Speaker 2: That you've seen, Uh, it's just different. It's a different approach.
- 10:05Speaker 2: They're much more I think they're in great, great physical conditioning.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I think they play hard. I think being able to
- 10:19Speaker 2: sub in and out like that. And that's probably because
- 10:24Speaker 2: I'm not sure that there's a big gap, you know,
- 10:27Speaker 2: is there a big gap between like number two and
- 10:31Speaker 2: three and number eight or nine? So as they mix
- 10:34Speaker 2: a match and put people out there, that's different, that's different.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And it again, it hasn't been like that, you know.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I think we've played them now, what this is the
- 10:52Speaker 1: fifth time or something since we started back up, So
- 10:56Speaker 1: it wasn't like that the other four times. For sure.
- 10:58Speaker 2: They create a lot more problems for other teams now
- 11:02Speaker 2: than than they did a few years ago.
- 11:04Speaker 1: For sure.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Anything else to coach last US coaches. It's one of
- 11:11Speaker 3: the old timers around here, obviously into a different series
- 11:15Speaker 3: without one of the biggest figures moving over and amore.
- 11:18Speaker 3: When you walk into this building, do you do you
- 11:21Speaker 3: think of some of those past games, some of those
- 11:23Speaker 3: past match ups and passed so much. Just what what
- 11:25Speaker 3: did your reaction from walking into the.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Salna now once the boot stop? You mean, I, I mean.
- 11:33Speaker 2: No, I've al I've always uh, I've always enjoyed kind
- 11:37Speaker 2: of coming down here. Uh I I still remember the
- 11:42Speaker 2: very first time, uh that we came down here. I
- 11:46Speaker 2: think Tennessee had like a sixty nine game on Winny
- 11:49Speaker 2: Street or something, and uh and we won and and it.
- 11:56Speaker 2: It meant a lot, you know, it meant a lot
- 11:57Speaker 2: to win a game, uh cause we weren't you know,
- 12:02Speaker 2: we weren't you come basketball yet. You know, we had
- 12:05Speaker 2: just won a national championship and we had just played
- 12:07Speaker 2: them in January, March, and then December. You know, three
- 12:11Speaker 2: times in less than twelve months. That doesn't usually happen,
- 12:14Speaker 2: you know. So I remember that first one for sure.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I remember a couple when you looked out on the
- 12:24Speaker 2: floor and there was you know, five or six or
- 12:27Speaker 2: seven future Hall of famers out there playing, you know.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Y.
- 12:34Speaker 3: It.
- 12:36Speaker 1: It just had a lot to it, h uh. And
- 12:41Speaker 1: I know that the players looked forward to it. It.
- 12:50Speaker 2: The the intensity of the games is what I remember.
- 12:55Speaker 2: The intensity of the games. It it was way different
- 12:59Speaker 2: than it any other game that you played. You know.
- 13:02Speaker 2: It felt like ann Every time we played it felt
- 13:04Speaker 2: like a national championship game, you know, And every time
- 13:08Speaker 2: we played them, it's.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Like one versus two, two versus three.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It's an NCAA tournament game, it's a national championship game.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Like every game meant something. So that's probably unique in itself.
- 13:21Speaker 2: That doesn't happen anymore.
- 13:23Speaker 3: What follow up, Kim Caldwell was in high school in
- 13:27Speaker 3: these games.
- 13:27Speaker 1: That you're talking, Yeah, you remind me of that.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Huh yeah, if you was talking about how they all
- 13:32Speaker 3: talked about it at school, and you know it was
- 13:34Speaker 3: the talk everybody your guys, girls, everybody won't talk about
- 13:37Speaker 3: the game. This was her first, you know, time to
- 13:41Speaker 3: get coach in it, which, if you don't mind your
- 13:43Speaker 3: you y'all spoke before the game.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yeah, what what kind of did y'all say there?
- 13:50Speaker 2: H w I I I I really uh first met
- 13:54Speaker 2: her at the Barclays event that we had in New York,
- 13:58Speaker 2: and uh DN and been watching.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I I think she been stepping into a situation like this.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Stepping into this program when you're a young coach that's
- 14:14Speaker 1: never coached Division one can't be the easiest thing in
- 14:16Speaker 1: the world. And uh, I just wanted to remind her that.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Watching from Afar, I can see the difference, and I
- 14:28Speaker 2: can see the impact that she's had, and I just
- 14:31Speaker 2: wanted to let her.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Know that I noticed that right thanks coaching you and
- 14:38Speaker 1: she should have stayed home to care for her babies.
