- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to The Three O Take
- 0:16presented by C Geek. This is Episode 401.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Corden. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes Nates. We back, dog, we back.
- 0:29Cool. It's a little.
- 0:31Good little. Vacation 17 days.
- 0:36Little vacay, maybe. Maybe someone's listening to us
- 0:39for the first time, so maybe they didn't even realize we were
- 0:41on vacation. That's true that.
- 0:44'D be cool if this is. Your first time welcome.
- 0:48This is, we're about at that. Like, we're at that.
- 0:51Like, all right, I'm kind of missing baseball pretty hard
- 0:54right now. You know, three weeks.
- 0:58I think after like, post Thanksgiving, I'm going to
- 1:01really feel it, 'cause, you know, when you, like, start
- 1:03getting your Christmas wish list, you're like, I kind, I
- 1:08kind of want that hoodie or something like that for
- 1:10Christmas. And that's where you're like,
- 1:12Dang, I miss baseball. Yeah.
- 1:14Yeah. So we're right there.
- 1:16So if you're new, welcome. What's up?
- 1:18Yeah. If you're new, welcome.
- 1:20Like I said, if this your first time, glad to have you if this
- 1:23is your second episode and you're going.
- 1:25Do you guys just drop an episode every 1718 days?
- 1:29No, that's that's not how we do things.
- 1:31But as as we mentioned last episode, just needed to go into
- 1:37into shutdown mode. We get to the end of the
- 1:40postseason, It's pretty predictable.
- 1:42We get to the end of the postseason and.
- 1:46It's never really different year to year.
- 1:48It's pretty much the same. We're like, OK, let's let's bag
- 1:51it for a couple weeks and we'll come back out on the other side
- 1:55and here we are and boy, have we missed a lot.
- 1:58Like, I know, I know the the Hot Stove hasn't exactly been in
- 2:03Fuego, but there's been a lot. Going on, I don't remember this
- 2:08much going on in in off seasons past.
- 2:12Maybe some of our listeners are like that's what you said last
- 2:14year, but I have no idea. This seems like a lot.
- 2:19Yeah, I mean for not having much happening on the player
- 2:23personnel side, yeah, a lot of me, I mean to be fair, we, it's
- 2:29been 17 days. So some of this stuff is has has
- 2:33some of this news has been broken for some time now, yeah.
- 2:37We're not going tonight, that's for sure, but.
- 2:40We're going to, we're going to revisit some of the things we
- 2:42missed. We're going to talk about heck
- 2:44some things that have happened in the last couple days.
- 2:47And we're going to get you caught back up to speed because
- 2:49quite honestly there's probably a lot of you out there listening
- 2:52that followed suit and checked out for the last two to three
- 2:57weeks like us, so. Sometimes you need to so it's
- 3:00you respect it. It's possible you need.
- 3:03You need a refresher as well, so it's good to be back.
- 3:07Got a lot to get into right off the top.
- 3:10Let's let's dive into some of these manager, can you say
- 3:17acquisitions? Like is that the right word to
- 3:19use when describing managers? Signing sounds weird too.
- 3:29Can't say trades although. I mean hiring or is that just?
- 3:34Manager hirings. Yeah, I guess that's the obvious
- 3:36one that I just completely whiffed on.
- 3:38Yeah, hirings is probably safe hiring firing if we're talking
- 3:44Cubs. That was a a wild scene.
- 3:48We'll get into that. But I want, I want to start off
- 3:51with the guy that I think everybody was excited to hear on
- 3:58the move. Except maybe Braves fans.
- 4:00But the rest of the baseball world?
- 4:02Ron Washington, the new manager of the Los Angeles Anaheim
- 4:09Angels of Anaheim, LA. California.
- 4:12California. The oldest manager in baseball,
- 4:1671 years old. I'm just going to say it.
- 4:18I I think I've said before, actually, I didn't want to see
- 4:26this guy manage it, manage it. I.
- 4:28Didn't. I didn't want to see this team.
- 4:32No, definitely not the Angels of Anaheim, LA, California.
- 4:37I don't get it. I don't get it.
- 4:40I I don't get him leaving. I don't see why he would.
- 4:44I think he got it made in the shade because you're a fan
- 4:47favorite in Atlanta. You just work with infielders
- 4:50and you get the arm loose, sending guys home.
- 4:55So, like, why? What's the?
- 4:58And I understand maybe like this was last time managed.
- 5:02Maybe left a poor taste in his mouth.
- 5:04So maybe he's got a little redemption tour, but still the
- 5:09angels. I I mean, to be fair, can you
- 5:16see him in a in a a spot like San Diego?
- 5:20No. Probably not.
- 5:24And if you're listening, you're probably going, how does why
- 5:27wouldn't he fit in San Diego? The guy is nothing but fun.
- 5:30That's all San Diego is. Yeah, but he's not going to be
- 5:34an infield coach. Yeah.
- 5:36If he were to be in San Diego, like he's going to have to be
- 5:38the guy calling the shots, making the tough decisions and a
- 5:42place like San Diego is not not a good fit.
- 5:45But on the flip? Side I wonder if 71's too old,
- 5:48by the way. No, man, I'm all, I'm here for
- 5:51it. I'm here for this reverse trend,
- 5:54getting all the old guys in here.
- 5:56I hear it. I'm just trying to picture
- 5:58myself at 71. I'm creeping up on 31 and I
- 6:03don't think I can hang on with that schedule.
- 6:07I would not be able to hang, just sleep in hotels for half
- 6:10the month. Uh huh.
- 6:13Be on a plane half the month. I just got off a plane this
- 6:15morning. I'm ready to fight.
- 6:17I'm ready to throw down. Airports you had it made in the
- 6:25shade. That's what I'm saying, though
- 6:27on the flip side, he's probably looking at this going My options
- 6:31at this point in time are limited.
- 6:34If LA is the only team that's that's calling for my name here,
- 6:38I'm running out of time because I'm 71.
- 6:42This might just be as as good as it gets for me.
- 6:46It's true. I just would have loved to have
- 6:48seen him gone out with with the Braves, just happy as a clam,
- 6:52just doing his, doing his, his two knee infield drills before
- 6:57the games. I needed that.
- 6:59I needed that. You best believe Anthony Rendon
- 7:02hate doing any, any, any field work pregame with Ronnie Wash.
- 7:09I'll tell you what Anthony Rendon will do whatever Ron
- 7:11Washington says. I don't care how many Oakland A
- 7:14fans he grabs by the shirt collar, he's going to do what
- 7:17Ron Washington says. Do you like the fit?
- 7:19I I don't understand. It on either side.
- 7:23I don't understand on either side to be honest.
- 7:25I don't and and a lot of what I was reading was saying that
- 7:28they're bringing wash in for this, you know, assumed.
- 7:35Rebuild because you you assume Shohei is gone.
- 7:38The rum, the the rumblings of trout leaving have never been
- 7:42stronger, right? So you can you can assume at
- 7:46some point over the next, can I say calendar year gone.
- 7:53That I don't get like why I I know I'm not going to keep like
- 7:59harping on the edge, but like at the same time 71 and then.
- 8:05Your next window is nowhere near, like it's not in the near
- 8:11future. It's.
- 8:12I would say it's pretty distant. Yeah, I I mean, you people like
- 8:16you and me, and probably the majority of other baseball fans
- 8:19can agree with that point. But if you're the Angels, if
- 8:23you're looking at this optimistically and you're trying
- 8:25to convey a message of it's right around the corner to your
- 8:28fans, maybe bringing in a guy like Ron Washington isn't
- 8:32necessarily a bad idea. Because you're going.
- 8:34If, that's the message if. We're right.
- 8:37That's a big if. But you know, if we are a few
- 8:39years away, let's get a guy that's not going to be here much
- 8:42longer anyway because he's not going to want to be here,
- 8:44because he's going to retire because he's 71, Then at that
- 8:49point we shift gears. We shift our focus to finding
- 8:53our next Brandon Hyde, or whoever that may be.
- 8:56See, that's what I was thinking for Phil Nevin.
- 8:59Like, you might as well let him be the Brandon Hyde.
- 9:02Let him. He's going to be there.
- 9:05Or David Ross, he's going to be there and just ride it out
- 9:10through the thin times because like Phil Nevin, it's his first
- 9:13managerial job, yeah, And he's young enough to stick around and
- 9:17you can like. Mold.
- 9:19You can almost kind of mold this manager how you want the
- 9:23organization to be managed. Not that they have any clue how
- 9:27to do any of that clearly, but at least you could kind of do
- 9:31that with a first time manager. You're not doing any of that
- 9:35with Ron Washington. And like you said, by the time
- 9:38the window shows up, a dude's going to be in a home getting
- 9:42his butt wiped. So.
- 9:45I mean. I'm not going to sit.
- 9:47Here, they're not put, they're not putting my man Ron
- 9:50Washington in a home. He's going out on his own, but
- 9:52he's not wiping out. No, no, no, no.
- 9:54He's going out on his own terms. I don't care what anybody says.
- 9:58Don't disrespect my man Ron like that.
- 10:00Don't disrespect my man, Ron. 71 year old version is is the man
- 10:0478 year old version by the time. They steal the man.
- 10:07In the hunt. Still the man.
- 10:09He can be the man not wiping his own butt.
- 10:11That's what it's going to be like.
- 10:13But that's one T, not 2. It's going to be like this
- 10:20today. I would just say that Phil Nevin
- 10:23kind of checked both boxes. You have a guy that's going to
- 10:26be loyal to you because, like, you gave him his first
- 10:29managerial job and you can write it out and like, create this
- 10:34Brandon Hyde Effect. Yeah, but like, as much as we
- 10:37like to to rail on the the Angels, you know, it's no
- 10:40different than you. You applying to a new job,
- 10:43you're there for like a year or two or or however long Nevin
- 10:47would maybe have been there had they not hired Ron Washington
- 10:51and then you get to the end of it.
- 10:52Maybe the way they just handled it were like, yeah, you know we
- 10:55don't really like this fit. Let's, let's.
- 10:58That's fine too. That's fine.
- 10:59I mean just because the very least.
- 11:01Just because he fits the mold like you're saying fits that
- 11:03mold on paper, they it may just not be a good mutual fit I.
- 11:07Don't then the Then the only thing I can think of is the fact
- 11:09that what you're saying is they're they're not punting and
- 11:13they're going to try and prove everyone wrong and continue to
- 11:16spend money poorly and in the wrong areas and they're going to
- 11:19continue to fall short, But at the very least they're going to
- 11:21bring in names to try to get the the seats filled.
- 11:25So. Seats.
- 11:32When was the last time that tick came out?
- 11:3418 days. The people know.
- 11:36People know Steven Vogt. Do you like it?
- 11:46Do you not like it? Well, let me say this, I know
- 11:51you're big. You're you're very big on having
- 11:54catchers. Yeah, that's where I was going
- 11:56to go. Fill the spot.
- 11:57Exactly where I was going. To go the 14th former catcher
- 12:01among big league managers right now.
- 12:03I love it. I love it.
- 12:04I think they're the smartest students on the field.
- 12:06They're the most tapped in, and I think I do.
- 12:11He does kind of come off like he like when you look at him,
- 12:15you're like you look pretty Ohio.
- 12:16I don't know what it is about him, but but he does, you know,
- 12:20just slap me over a casserole in in a Midwestern belly.
- 12:26That's kind of how I see him. So I like that aspect to it.
- 12:33Is Ohio technically Midwest? Kind of.
- 12:36Ohio is like very country. Oh yeah, very much Midwest.
- 12:41Yeah get over there with the Wisconsin's and stuff.
- 12:47I just, I've never been able to figure out Cleveland.
- 12:49I never understand them. They they do certain moves where
- 12:56you think like they're they're going to start to build and and
- 12:58go in the right direction and then they kind of do what they
- 13:00did this year and. Hanging out at the bottom of the
- 13:03division, it's like I I just, I don't, I don't fully understand
- 13:07them. They don't make sense to me.
- 13:10So here's what we do now. Obvious former catcher hired him
- 13:16to a The Guardians hired him. Hired him to a three-year deal.
- 13:20He's 39. He's coming in to replace Tito
- 13:27and last year served as the bullpen and quality control
- 13:29coach for the Seattle Mariners. Very likable guy.
- 13:33I I like him a lot. Like I I'm a fan.
- 13:36I'm a fan of the way he played and and the way he he was just I
- 13:40I he seemed like a good dude seemed like a good clubhouse
- 13:43guy. So I bet he's going to be very
- 13:46solid. I just, I I'm perplexed on on
- 13:50the Cleveland Guardian side of things because it's like I at
- 13:55what point are, I mean are we just going to continue to waste
- 13:59Jay Ram's? Prime Or are we going to like
- 14:01double down and try to build a little bit and get after it?
- 14:08Well, I mean, I don't know if I hear what you're saying, but I
- 14:11don't know if it's the manager decision that's that's.
- 14:17Either wasting or not wasting, I mean, because look who they who
- 14:20they just had at the helm. And Silk can really do anything
- 14:23with it. And yeah, but it's not.
- 14:24And that's not taking anything away from Tito Tito's.
- 14:26Elected, but Tito's basically part time for the last year,
- 14:29year and a half. So yeah, but I think it.
- 14:33Which has its own complications and and difficulties.
- 14:36I just, I don't see, I don't see the we're trying to get over the
- 14:43hump and then you hire. A 39 year old manager.
- 14:53I I do want to get your take when we've kind of gone through
- 14:56this list here and get your take for which of these hirings
- 15:01excites you the most, but I just want to.
- 15:03I'm struggling right now. Yeah, I just want.
- 15:05To throw out a little teaser that low key, this might be like
- 15:09a dark horse for me. That's it.
- 15:12I could. I like I honestly I didn't even
- 15:15think about it until you mentioned it because I was
- 15:17thinking it excited me for other reasons.
- 15:19But you mentioned the whole he just fits the whole Ohio thing
- 15:23that that just kind of adds to it for me.
- 15:25But I I think this could potentially be with for a
- 15:28three-year deal. I think this could potentially
- 15:32this could work out. I I like the move, I do.
- 15:39The move I wanted to really get your take on that, We kind of
- 15:43already teased already, Craig, counsel to the Cubs, Shocks the
- 15:49entire baseball world. Yeah.
- 15:53Shocks David Ross, I'm sure. I I mean, I don't know if I'm in
- 16:00the majority here. I probably am.
- 16:02I think this is probably my favorite.
- 16:04I think Craig counsel's. The top tier manager, I would
- 16:11give him top five in baseball, like running top five manager in
- 16:17baseball right now. So I love it.
- 16:20I thought even with like when the Mets rumors were kind of
- 16:23swirling around a little bit and I didn't even realize we never
- 16:27talked about it. I never realized that Milwaukee
- 16:29would just be like, yeah, feel free, go shop around a little
- 16:33bit. Yeah, that's such a weird thing
- 16:36to me. I hate that you hear this all
- 16:38the time where team, which I mean I can respect like teams
- 16:40have to like if they're interested, you have to kind of
- 16:45inquire with the other team. I I understand that.
- 16:48But on on the other end, all these teams just be like, yeah,
- 16:51go ahead, talk to the guy. It's I don't get whatever, Yeah,
- 16:54I don't get it. Tell me how that's tell me how
- 16:56that marriage like I was literally just about to say.
- 16:59Tell me how that's any different from a personal relationship
- 17:02with somebody like it makes no sense yet Go.
- 17:04Ahead, babe. I don't.
- 17:05I don't know yet. I don't know yet.
- 17:06I just, I got to. I got to go spread my wings.
- 17:08That's like that's basically what Bob Melvin just did.
- 17:12Such a weird. And dynamic Craig counsel.
- 17:16And so it is weird, but I thought wherever Craig went, as
- 17:21soon as that rumor came out and I was like if he is leaving.
- 17:24Whatever team gets him, I think is going to be in really, really
- 17:28good shape. And I think there's something
- 17:31about if we were to kind of use like Phil Nevin as that, like,
- 17:36hey, let's ride you out through the rough times, you keep the
- 17:40fans happy kind of kind of guy. And then if we start to get to
- 17:48that point where like, all right, we're about to get really
- 17:50good. We got to go get somebody that
- 17:53knows what he's doing. And so I think that whatever
- 17:57success that's going to come in the near future for the Cubs, I
- 18:01think David Ross deserves a lot, a lot of credit.
- 18:03A lot of credit. Even though I think Craig
- 18:06Counsel is a guy that can manage circles around pretty much most
- 18:10of the league. I just want to go on record as
- 18:14saying when people ask me why I don't want Jason Vertec to ever
- 18:18be the manager of the Boston Red Sox.
- 18:19It's for this exact reason because.
- 18:22Say what you want, Cubs fans can say what they want, but it's
- 18:26hard to look at David Ross through the same lens now.
- 18:30Sure is. Given that he was essentially
- 18:34fired from his position as manager of the Cubs, like you
- 18:38can still look at him as a guy that you, that you love and all
- 18:42that. I don't know why.
- 18:43Why are we gonna pop up on our screen?
- 18:45Cool. Yeah.
- 18:46Why are we doing? Weird stuff going last time too.
- 18:48That's crazy. I mean you the.
- 18:50Balloons last time. That's the balloons You can
- 18:52still, you can still love a guy like David Ross if you're a Cubs
- 18:56fan. But it kind of, it kind of
- 19:01muddies it up a little bit. It muddies his legacy when you.
- 19:05I agree. When you look at his Cubs career
- 19:08now, because it you include the manager tenure and that and that
- 19:12as well. But that's OK.
- 19:15You see so many managers that get their first job and then
- 19:17they go be a bench coach or. You know, something like that.
- 19:21And then they take a few years off and then get back into
- 19:23management. I think Ross is going to have a
- 19:25long career. No, I agree.
- 19:27But in both of those examples that I gave you, David Ross,
- 19:30Jason Veritech both played pivotal roles in ending historic
- 19:36curses. So.
- 19:37You never. You wouldn't want to see it end.
- 19:38Yeah, I get what you're saying. But back to what I was
- 19:42originally going to ask you, you you keep mentioning Craig,
- 19:45council being top five. I'm curious who you have.
- 19:49Like that would maybe keep him out of the top three.
- 19:56That's a good question. I think Snit has to be up there.
- 20:01Obviously, Bochy, I would have said Melvin pre San Diego, and I
- 20:14still don't know if I'm ready to blame him for that.
- 20:18He was up there for me. No, man.
- 20:21I can't say Dusty now because he's retired.
- 20:23So they had some, they had some. We we all know they had some
- 20:26Divas in that. Yeah, there's.
- 20:27I can't. I can't blame Melvin for that.
- 20:30All right. I I would probably put Melvin up
- 20:32there, but I don't know you going to put my guy AC up there.
- 20:39Put your bias aside. Look at the baseball.
- 20:41He's close, I would say. Council's better, I would say.
- 20:44Council. Oh no, no, for sure, for sure.
- 20:46I'm just saying like in the in the mix.
- 20:48Yeah, which is my point in that conversation.
- 20:51Quick, are you keeping him out of the top three?
- 20:53Like, I I don't know if I could keep him out of that, if I could
- 20:56keep counsel. You're right.
- 20:57You're right. I mean, I'm struggling.
- 21:02I can't really think of outside of.
- 21:06I mean, Bochi is a lock. Snit is a lock to me.
- 21:10I don't know. You know what I mean?
- 21:13I disagree with you a little bit.
- 21:14I don't know if that's if it's less.
- 21:16I'm not taking anything away from what he's done up to this
- 21:18point. But it it begs the question how
- 21:20much of that is influenced by the talent that they have on
- 21:24that, on that squad versus the managers impacting that, I don't
- 21:28know. As much I don't know, as much as
- 21:38I don't like him and if we are really truly talking about
- 21:41removing bias. I feel like Kevin Cash probably
- 21:44has to be up there in that conversation, but are you
- 21:49putting Kevin? Calculated as that organization
- 21:51is, that's what I'm saying. Are you putting Kevin cash in
- 21:55the top five managers or are you putting the raised front office
- 21:58in the top five managers? Because that's who we're really.
- 22:00That's who we're really working with here.
- 22:02It's a good argument. It's a really good argument.
- 22:04I don't know. I you might be right.
- 22:07I'm trying to think of like the rest of the league, Dusty being.
- 22:12Retired kind of hurts my case a little bit I don't know but
- 22:16either way Craig council great hire great I think you I think
- 22:21you that was a snatch. I mean that was like the doesn't
- 22:25go in the trade category or free agent category, but as far as
- 22:29like I guess acquisitions or hirings or signings that
- 22:34category this is going to be, this is going to be up there.
- 22:39I think people are going to forget about it because they're
- 22:40going to Add all these free agents landing in spots and
- 22:42stuff like that. But this acquisition is going to
- 22:45be up there with one of the most important ones.
- 22:50I mean, the Cubs had. They had to move quick, I'm
- 22:54imagining, to get this done. I would probably, probably bet
- 22:59the Well, here's The thing is that wasn't Ross brought in by
- 23:03the old GM and the new GM came in let David Ross sit for a
- 23:07year, right? Maybe two years might be right.
- 23:18We apologize. They're not even crazy Chicago
- 23:21Cubs familiarity. I'm sure there's some Cubs fans
- 23:24yelling at us right now, but yeah, I think new GM came in and
- 23:27didn't want to ruffle too much feathers.
- 23:28If you if you come in and and fire a fan favorite immediately,
- 23:33then yeah, but I think if you come in, you make some good
- 23:36signings like a Dansby and then. You say, hey, we're still
- 23:43falling short. I think it's OK that you move
- 23:45on, and I'd be excited if I was a Cubs fan.
- 23:48I think you should be excited. This is a good chapter Current
- 23:53GM Carter Hawkins took over for the 2022 season.
- 23:57All right, so there you go. You let Rossi chill for two
- 24:00years. I did.
- 24:02Did you see that Rizzo was trying to convince Dave Ross to
- 24:06come in as a bench coach for the Yankees?
- 24:10I would have been so freaking on board, dude.
- 24:14I would have been so on board. They're they're rallying to get
- 24:18Ross back to Boston. Have a little 2013 reunion
- 24:22because I don't know if you saw, but obviously Craig Craig
- 24:24Breslow, the new whatever they it's essentially the GM for the
- 24:32Sox. They just make positions up.
- 24:33Yeah, he he's a 2013 guy they brought back or they made Andrew
- 24:44Bailey, the pitching coach put like they snatch him up from San
- 24:47Fran. Why not bring?
- 24:50Why not bring old David Ross back?
- 24:53Koji Riverside likes it Riverside Koji Koji Yuahara was
- 24:59in Boston recently. The the whole cruise back get
- 25:02get Rossi back in in Boston. I don't hate it either.
- 25:05I I think he would be a a great addition no matter where he goes
- 25:09in a different role, specifically bench coach.
- 25:12Let's just learn a little bit outside of a different
- 25:14organization, learn more coaching.
- 25:17I'll see you as a manager in four or five years.
- 25:20Do you think Do you think Ross takes an abbreviated career
- 25:24trajectory as a Ron Washington manager?
- 25:28Yeah, Bench coach. Third base coach.
- 25:31Something catching coach. Yeah, I back to the helm.
- 25:35Yeah, yeah, I'm sure. Like I said, Washington's
- 25:39careers played out far longer than Ross has at this point.
- 25:43But an abbreviated similar path? Yeah, I like it.
- 25:48It happened especially. Because he he lasted a while.
- 25:54This wasn't like a Brad Osmus in Detroit kind of thing, where it
- 25:58was your first, like your first manager job and then.
- 26:01You really just got everything but thrown out of town, yeah?
- 26:07Then you're not. I think this is.
- 26:08I think this is going to be good for him.
- 26:10I think he's going to be a good addition.
- 26:11He's going to be good. He's still that, like good age
- 26:15to be able to connect with the clubhouse and stuff.
- 26:19Maybe the Braves bring him in. Who knows?
- 26:21I'm about it, guy. We've already mentioned a time
- 26:25or two already this episode. Bob Melvin heading back to the
- 26:29Bay Wild How the heading back to San Francisco?
- 26:34Yeah, how wild was that? Like that article we were just
- 26:39talking about before we hopped on that Like Preller doubled
- 26:42down on on Melvin and then yeah the first week of October the
- 26:46The Associated Press comes in. In fact if you listen to it,
- 26:49right. If you listen to this right now
- 26:51go ahead and Google because I did it today because I I wanted
- 26:53to double check that the Padres like it didn't slide under the
- 26:56radar that they'd pick somebody like a a a small like a lesser
- 26:59known name up is to be their manager.
- 27:02I doubled down so I googled who is and I'll do right now who is
- 27:06the Padres manager. All right, you Google that the
- 27:11first response that comes up, Bob Melvin, the article is Bob
- 27:16Melvin will be back as manager of the big spending San Diego
- 27:19Padres following the most disappointing season franchise
- 27:22history, General Manager AJ Preller said.
- 27:25That's the top result right now on Google.
- 27:29This was October 4th. And then when did the hire
- 27:34actually officially happened? It couldn't have been but this
- 27:44October 25th, 3 weeks. Yeah, and this was similar to
- 27:47like the. The weird Soto thing, Not that
- 27:50we're going to pull at this thread because we don't really
- 27:52have time tonight. We got other stuff to get to,
- 27:54but the whole like Soto, absolutely a part of 2024 plans
- 28:00and then not two days later. Buster only coming out with like
- 28:04100% getting traded and I'm like, what's going on over there
- 28:08in Santiago? Yeah, which, you know, I I
- 28:12should have mentioned this off the top because I've been
- 28:14thinking for the last how many days has it been?
- 28:1717 days? How we're now it.
- 28:20We're just in the worst part of the baseball season.
- 28:23Like the fact that people get. I gave up on this years ago.
- 28:27The fact that people get worked up on the reports that come out
- 28:31at this point in time, it's a waste of your time.
- 28:35Stop wasting your time. Stop wasting your energy.
- 28:39Get outside, Take a walk, spend some time with your dog.
- 28:44Go get a sandwich at the local deli.
- 28:46Stop worrying about what they're reporting, because it's a whole
- 28:50bunch of nothing. The only things that we're
- 28:53hearing right now are that teams, unidentified teams are
- 28:58supposedly reportedly interested in unidentified players at a
- 29:03unidentified, unreported supposed rate of contract for an
- 29:10unspecified amount of time. Reportedly, that's all we know
- 29:14at this point. So true, so true.
- 29:19So anyway, I think, I think San Diego.
- 29:21So I mean they're this is been a nightmare.
- 29:24I would say the last six months has been an absolute nightmare.
- 29:28I mean, when you're talking about taking a loan out to just
- 29:31make payroll to your owner, passing away to rifts between
- 29:36your GM and your manager, and then doubling down and saying
- 29:40he's coming back and then he leaves three weeks later.
- 29:43To now you probably need to trade the best player on your
- 29:46roster just to make payroll happen.
- 29:51There's a lot of crap going on over there.
- 29:53And not to forget the sound bites that you you heard back at
- 29:57Padres Fest, which I admit I fell victim to.
- 30:01You got much shot. Who was it?
- 30:04Tatis was they asked him what? What did they ask him?
- 30:07Like, who do you want to face in the World Series or something?
- 30:12It was, I'm parapraising, but he was like, it doesn't matter,
- 30:14we're going to beat him. And then I think you had Machado
- 30:17with like the the LeBron S quote where he was like, not, not. 5
- 30:21Not 6-7 whatever. Like come on man, it's they it's
- 30:28early. Don't, don't don't take me at my
- 30:31word here for saying this because I I may change my tune
- 30:34come February, but and as of right now I'm kind of out.
- 30:37I'm super proud until you can show me some sort of direction
- 30:42you've you've given baseball fans no reason to believe in you
- 30:45because you let him down massively this year and last
- 30:49season for sure. So I'm out.
- 30:53But. Melvin in San Francisco.
- 30:59I'm a fan. I've said it before.
- 31:01I think Bob Melvin is an excellent manager, I think.
- 31:05He's I don't know what the issue was with Gabe Kapler.
- 31:11I couldn't pinpoint it personally.
- 31:14I just well, let me ask you this, I didn't feel it.
- 31:16I never felt it the way that I viewed Buck Showalter in New
- 31:25York. We're both Big Buck Showalter,
- 31:30guys. Yeah.
- 31:31And you were a believer in him that you thought that he could
- 31:34fix the train wreck in in Queens.
- 31:36And I said it doesn't matter. I can.
- 31:39I can give Buck all the praise that he's he's deserving of.
- 31:43But it's still the Mets knowing how you in particular me.
- 31:47Not as much. You.
- 31:48More so the way you feel about the Giants, as bright of a
- 31:52baseball mind as you think Bob Melvin is, do you think it
- 31:55really matters? I think he's going somewhere
- 32:01that has a combination of we're, we're responsible, we're in it
- 32:07for the long haul. We're going to build our own
- 32:09thing, but also go sign names. They're obviously aggressive
- 32:14when it comes to free agency and we've seen it then just kind of
- 32:19come up short. And I think there's probably a
- 32:22reason I I don't know if Gabe Kepler was that reason or not.
- 32:26But I got to imagine that Bob Melvin is going to be a a a
- 32:29positive thing. Like I want to sign here cuz Bob
- 32:34is there. So I think this is a good thing.
- 32:38I don't know if I feel as strongly, necessarily about the
- 32:44Giants, same way I do have like the Brewers or something, or the
- 32:49Twins, but. Yeah, I'm just, I'm not going to
- 32:54fall for it. I think there it's it's a cute
- 32:57story. Anytime they do well and I'm
- 33:00talking like post, post, Bocci era.
- 33:05Sure. Any anytime they do well, I'm
- 33:07just like it. It's it's not going to have a
- 33:11fairy tale ending. It just doesn't doesn't feel
- 33:13that way. Yeah.
- 33:16So curious to see what they do in free agency.
- 33:20Trade wise I don't know, but. Good for Bob, getting out of San
- 33:24Diego, I think. Yeah, it's a good thing, I
- 33:29think. I still think the Giants miss
- 33:33their, miss the boat on locking down like a guy.
- 33:39Because if you look at the, if you just look at the free agent
- 33:43class this year, it doesn't get the juices flowing the same way
- 33:48I feel like. For sure this is very top heavy
- 33:52very top heavy and I'm I'm not I don't say that to to dismiss the
- 33:58the Yamamoto's and and guys like that but to your point very top
- 34:02heavy and we've already seen Aaron Nola come off the board
- 34:07which we'll touch on here towards the end you're you're
- 34:12already missing out on on these guys already.
- 34:16So if you if you are trying to make a splash and you want it to
- 34:19be under Melvin's control and not four or 5-6 years down the
- 34:25road before before you finally get your guy, you better, you
- 34:29better get the ball rolling. Yeah, I mean, I saw a graphic
- 34:36tonight. I don't even remember.
- 34:37It may have been ML BS Post. It was talking about the top
- 34:41free agents at each position. It was Paul, the Young at
- 34:45shortstop. Like that's what we're dealing
- 34:47with. Yeah, that's understandable I
- 34:49think. Maybe there's another reason
- 34:51this is a good hire and maybe it is the fact that like, maybe the
- 34:54Giants just realized, hey, we we've missed our mark on the big
- 34:59signings. I don't, I I don't think they're
- 35:02a legitimate contender for for show.
- 35:04Hey, I'm sorry. I just, I can't buy in on that.
- 35:08So I'm going to go ahead and say maybe they brought in Bob
- 35:12saying, hey, we're going to go a little A's mode and you do what
- 35:18you do. You know, we're going to be
- 35:20pretty budgetary and we're going to make smart signings and we're
- 35:23going to try to field a team with scraps and play just clean
- 35:28ball. And that's kind of what you saw
- 35:30with like the Diamondbacks this year.
- 35:32Like you're seeing there's there's different ways of
- 35:34success. And I think if you play just
- 35:36really clean, good, solid disciplinary baseball and Bob
- 35:41Melvin at the helm, that makes a lot of sense to me because,
- 35:44like, no team's really going to get in there and score a ton of
- 35:47runs. You're not going to have a
- 35:48fantastic offense. You're not going to be able to
- 35:50attract power hitting, you know, hitters the way you used to.
- 35:56So I think maybe you just play small ball.
- 35:58You play really, really, really good small ball.
- 36:01You double down on pitching. There's plenty of pitching in
- 36:04the market right now. Go get a Jordan Montgomery, go
- 36:07get a, you know, one of those types of names and just like
- 36:11just get a decent bullpen put together and you're going to,
- 36:15you're good. I like that point you made about
- 36:18going A's mode a little bit because you know, we, I don't
- 36:22think we really talk about the way managers respond to
- 36:26different teams the same way we do with players.
- 36:28Because you hear all the time about like, well, you look at a
- 36:31guy like Sonny Gray. Can he play in a big market?
- 36:34Like can he perform under that? Kind of.
- 36:36That would be a great fit, too. You look at.
- 36:39Like I said, I don't. I don't know if we look at it
- 36:41the same way with managers, though.
- 36:43Maybe Bob Melvin isn't a guy that likes going to a team that
- 36:46has nothing but superstars, right?
- 36:48Maybe he likes. Maybe he responds better and he
- 36:51can tap into his managerial skill set better with a group of
- 36:55guys that's more coachable than a bunch of names.
- 36:58Like Soto Machado, exactly. I don't think we can overstress
- 37:03the fact that like those are I think superstars are difficult
- 37:06to manage. That's like the tale oldest time
- 37:09across sports. They're hard to they're hard to
- 37:12coach, they're hard to manage. So having a bunch of them, and
- 37:15maybe you're right, maybe Bob Phil, Bob Melvin's fit there
- 37:18just made no sense. With the superstars, you go
- 37:21somewhere like this where there are some really good veteran
- 37:25names in this free agent list that aren't superstars but are
- 37:28going to get you dubs, and you go somewhere that's super low
- 37:32key. I love it.
- 37:38You can flip the script. The Giants could flip the script
- 37:40for me. If they start going that mode
- 37:42and stop, stop pretending to be a big market, big spender and
- 37:46play baseball the way you normally play baseball and put
- 37:49your roster together the way you should.
- 37:51I'm in. You'll flip the script for me.
- 37:55I like it. Pat Murphy with the Brewers.
- 37:58I feel like I should have just paired this with the It's
- 38:02possible eight seasons as council's bench coach has a
- 38:12three-year contract and it's turning 65.
- 38:19Like next week, right? In that sweet spot.
- 38:23So that's what we know. You know, I mean, safe to assume
- 38:29not going to fill those shoes right off the jump.
- 38:33Probably not. But I mean, look like, if you
- 38:35like, if it kept internal, yeah. If you're going to, like, try to
- 38:39emulate what you just had, makes sense.
- 38:44I don't think any other baseball fans outside of Brewers fans,
- 38:48ever heard of him. What's crazy though, is I found
- 38:53this nugget when I was pulling some notes together.
- 38:57He was Notre Dame's coach when Craig council.
- 39:05Played playing there for the Irish.
- 39:08That's from 89 to 92. I like.
- 39:13I like the college baseball, the experience, the coaching
- 39:18experience. That gets me a little gassed up.
- 39:23Baseball's getting younger. I like it.
- 39:29I mean, it's still the Brewers, but yeah, I was just about to
- 39:32say we know how we feel about the Brewers, but I like it.
- 39:37I like it a lot. Joe Espada, another guy.
- 39:42Most predictable move of all offseason, I think.
- 39:45Yeah, yeah. But it's a similar to the Pat
- 39:48Murphy move. It's a move that I like.
- 39:50There's honestly, there's not really, aside from the the Ron
- 39:56Washington move, which it's not even because it's Ron
- 40:00Washington, it's just because it's the Angels and that they
- 40:04just, I don't know. Outside of the Ron Washington,
- 40:08though, there's not really a move that I have anything really
- 40:14negative to say about 'cause this is bottom of like you keep
- 40:17it internal, was the bench coach for the last six years.
- 40:22Yeah, I'm a. Fan like you said, it just made
- 40:26sense. This was the.
- 40:27The most predictable seamless transition that she could have
- 40:34expected and hoped for I think yeah there's there's they've
- 40:38developed like the Astro way and I think this this carries on
- 40:43that legacy of the Astro way. Whatever that whatever that
- 40:46means. I'm not an Astros fan, but I can
- 40:48tell that there's a way that organization is going to operate
- 40:51moving forward. And whereas these guys get older
- 40:56and they start to transition out and then you know new young guys
- 40:59are coming in. I it makes sense to have someone
- 41:02like like Joe who learned from 2 good managers.
- 41:12Then I think he was with the Yankees staff when Girardi was
- 41:16still around. I think he was one of first
- 41:20moves that when Boone came in the spot it was out.
- 41:24I think he was on Girardi's Girardi's bench for a little
- 41:26while. Let's pull up.
- 41:30So 3 good managers. Yeah, it's with the Yankees from
- 41:4015 to 17, it was with the Marlins from 10 to 13, who was?
- 41:46Who was? It's pre Mattingly, isn't it?
- 42:03Yeah, I think, yeah, for sure. I don't know, dude.
- 42:06Yeah, when he Marlins. Yankees Astros.
- 42:09Yeah, he's had a you know, that's that's a that's a strong
- 42:12resume. That's what I'm saying.
- 42:13Take into your first managerial, that's A and good for the
- 42:18Astros, recognizing that. It's probably like they're going
- 42:21to it's like you said, seamless. It's he's going to transition
- 42:24just fine. He's going to understand that
- 42:26roster. He's going to understand those
- 42:28players. He's he's going to do just fine.
- 42:31I don't think they're going to skip a beat at all.
- 42:34Last, we'll hear Carlos Mendo skip a beat.
- 42:40Skip a beat, right. Does that sound weird?
- 42:44Going to stop thinking about it. You know when you say something,
- 42:47you're like, that can't be right, and you say it over and
- 42:49over again, you're like, it's definitely not right, but it is.
- 42:51Not going to skip a beat? Yeah, no, you're right.
- 42:54All right. Yeah.
- 42:55Miss a beat. Yeah.
- 42:56Is it Miss? A beat?
- 42:56No skip. A beat?
- 42:57No. You're right, not going to skip
- 42:59a beat. Now you got me doubled.
- 43:02Whatever. Carlos Mendoza here last.
- 43:04Lastly before we get into we got to run through some awards.
- 43:07Lastly, Carlos Mendoza for the Mets.
- 43:12I mean it's the Mets. Like I still, I still stand
- 43:18behind what I said, though I don't have anything necessarily
- 43:20negative to say about this. Yeah.
- 43:22Individual, yeah. But it's like Ron Washington
- 43:26with the Angels. It's it's the Mets.
- 43:29Yeah. This is Phil Nevin hire in my
- 43:33mind nothing against Mindy. I think he was good on the
- 43:35bench. Consider I saw this this like
- 43:39meme on on Instagram that was like Carlos Mendoza has managed
- 43:45for like a certain amount of years at the Yankees.
- 43:47But he's managed like 683 games with all of Aaron Boone's
- 43:51ejections. So, like, he's got plenty of
- 43:54service time. I mean, it's a meme, but that's,
- 43:58that's the reality of it. Like he's, he's got, he's had to
- 44:02answer the call on more than one occasion.
- 44:05So, I mean, I think it's smart. It's if you're the Mets, I mean,
- 44:12you came out and publicly said you're not doing anything next
- 44:15year. You got a guy that has watched
- 44:18how managing should can happen, not should happen, how managing
- 44:24can happen in New York. So I think it'll be fine.
- 44:31I mean, you have to think. You have to think that the whole
- 44:35punt conversation that got leaks that had to have played into
- 44:39council's decision had to have. Like if you're Craig Council,
- 44:45you're not signing up and he's not a he's not a baby.
- 44:48Sick guy? No.
- 44:50And I don't see that at at all, being the fit after being in
- 44:55Milwaukee that long and playing in Arizona.
- 44:57Well, isn't counsel? Isn't he a Midwest guy?
- 45:00Isn't. Wait a minute, is he from?
- 45:09Isn't he? Let's see, South Bend IN.
- 45:14Yeah, he's a That's a Creek counselor.
- 45:16That's a Midwest guy at heart. That's.
- 45:18Yeah. He ain't going.
- 45:19He ain't going east. Good for the Mets for attempting
- 45:24that. But I wonder if the Cubs were
- 45:27like, Dang. I didn't even know council is
- 45:30taking calls until the Mets let that out the out the cat out the
- 45:35out the bag. But I don't know.
- 45:37Yeah. Carlos Mendoza.
- 45:38Good fit. Do your thing.
- 45:40I don't know what's happening in Metland.
- 45:43Couldn't tell you. Awards.
- 45:52I was going to say Padres manager, but as I had to mention
- 45:55that's currently Vacants. So let's let's switch gears,
- 45:58talk, let's get caught up to speed on the awards.
- 46:03They were released last week but as I mentioned it's been 17 days
- 46:10so we're going to get you caught up to speed.
- 46:11Give our Give our thoughts here. Rookie of the Year Gunner
- 46:18Henderson coming out of the AL? Pretty much a no brainer on both
- 46:23sides, yeah. What's that?
- 46:26Pretty much a no brainer on both sides.
- 46:28Yeah, both were unanimous or no. Yes, Yes, both unanimous for the
- 46:40first time since 2017. Only a fifth time ever.
- 46:50I like it. Not much to say, just a crazy
- 46:55amount of talent and. I saw it.
- 47:02I think both these guys have a game that's going to stick
- 47:04around. Well, I was literally just about
- 47:06to ask you. I saw I saw a question posed on
- 47:08social today. If you could take one of these
- 47:11guys for the next 15 years who you taken probably lean gunner.
- 47:16Just because I'm a I'm an infielder, Bias, But.
- 47:21I think he ages. He has to age better, you would
- 47:24think, Right? Yeah.
- 47:25Like, yeah. Like his, his play, his bill.
- 47:29I think you got to assume that the Corbin juice isn't going to
- 47:31last forever. But either way, I mean it's it's
- 47:35still they're both sick. They're both really, really
- 47:39sick. But yeah, I think they're
- 47:42they're both going to last a while.
- 47:43They're both top of the order guys that are just going to be a
- 47:47problem for a long time. It's not one of those rookies
- 47:52that like you could see and there's a hole in his game.
- 47:55I'm not saying they won't have, you know, down year at any
- 48:00point, but they got stuff that like is super replicable of what
- 48:04they did this year. I think we saw who they are.
- 48:08Speaking of which, did you this had kind of slipped under the
- 48:12radar for me the the draft pick? Compensation.
- 48:20Did you hear about that? No.
- 48:24So I need. I'm trying to find it here.
- 48:31It was something about because that they were in the top top
- 48:42one MLB Top 100. Where is this?
- 48:49I'm glad you hadn't heard about it either, because it was very
- 48:57much under the radar. Did you not?
- 49:03You didn't. You didn't catch any of this.
- 49:05No, not a drop. Where is it?
- 49:09I don't know what I was doing the night these were released.
- 49:16This boy was on vacay. He was on a baseball vacay.
- 49:19This was Monday. Here we go, the prospects,
- 49:25promotion, incentive, OK. So I just pulled up an article
- 49:34here from Sporty News. MLB team's manipulation of top
- 49:37prospect service time was one of the biggest issues for the
- 49:39players union when negotiating the most recent CBA in 2022.
- 49:46The practice, which is vexed MLB players and fans alike, has
- 49:49delayed top young players, especially on certain teams,
- 49:51from opening the season in the majors, much of the dismay of
- 49:54fans looking to see the future. So essentially, essentially,
- 49:59Tony Clark knows what he's doing.
- 50:03A measure in the new and this was from earlier in the year.
- 50:07This was bet for back in March, but it says that a measure in
- 50:10the new CBA seems to have addressed that issue.
- 50:12The prospect promotion incentive, which is designed to
- 50:15promote teams to prompt teams to bring players up sooner, Love
- 50:19that. So trying to see it's.
- 50:26Here we go, here we go. Players who win Rookie of the
- 50:28Year earn their team an amateur draft pick after the first round
- 50:33and second or third place. Finishers earn an international
- 50:38pick. That's baller, dude.
- 50:40That's such a smart implementation.
- 50:45And I that just made me like a big fan of, like, wanting to pay
- 50:52attention more to the next CBA. Just personally, like, 'cause
- 50:57that's such a cool thing. And like, you never know how
- 51:00that would exist. And I hope that like at that
- 51:03point, whenever that pick comes around and pans out, like how
- 51:07sick would that be, you can point it back.
- 51:09To this, it's like 2032 and Corbin Carroll.
- 51:12Corbin Carroll's, you know, hitting second and and the
- 51:16Diamondbacks are chasing down a division.
- 51:18And then this rookie that comes up and just starts balling out
- 51:21with the team is in the lineup. And like, I hope that someone is
- 51:25going to pay attention to that and be like this is the reason.
- 51:28And I think that man, Tony Clark, job well done.
- 51:34Dude, no. But what I was saying is so it
- 51:36it was the top 100 thing. So it says what players are
- 51:39eligible for ML BS Prospect promotion incentive.
- 51:42The reason we're most mostly seen highly touted prospects get
- 51:45promoted is because only players on specific top 100 lists can
- 51:48earn their team's picks. They must be on the top 100 in
- 51:52two of the lists compiledbymlb.com, Baseball
- 51:55America or ESPN to qualify because both of them did.
- 51:59They earned both of their teams these picks.
- 52:02So that's good on whoever qualifier too.
- 52:07That's smart. Yeah, whoever, whether it's Tony
- 52:10Clark or somebody else, whoever pulled the trigger on that
- 52:14detail of the CBA. Super sick.
- 52:17Love that manners of the year. Brandon Hyde, Skip Schumacher.
- 52:25I think a lot of people possibly had off guard.
- 52:28It did. It did.
- 52:31I think for the AL though, a lot of people were thinking Bruce
- 52:34Bocci. But as a reminder, these wars
- 52:37are pre post season so you can't you can't just silly factor in
- 52:45what Bocci did in October. I don't know why, I just got a
- 52:48thumbs up on the screen again. But anyway, how could you not
- 52:57give it to Hyde, right? That was a no brainer.
- 53:01I think I saw that one for sure. I I think yeah.
- 53:07I don't know. I I don't.
- 53:11I don't. I don't really fully understand
- 53:13the Bochy thing. I think just like the overall
- 53:17like roster configuration like everything went well for the
- 53:20Rangers obviously. But like I don't know.
- 53:25I think if you if we just remove the last, like if we remove the
- 53:29postseason from our brains, I think a lot of people would
- 53:32understand this, this selection, Brandon Hyde deserve this.
- 53:36He's he's deserved this, not just for this year, but what
- 53:41he's put up with for the last few years too.
- 53:43And in the build up of this and to to have all of this come
- 53:48together, the Orioles organization, no matter how you
- 53:52want to chalk it up. Was it tanking?
- 53:54Was it not tanking? But like we have all these
- 53:58prospects coming up and it needs to come together.
- 54:00You could say a ball club as well.
- 54:02You're going to be good enough. No.
- 54:04We see prospects that don't pin out all the time.
- 54:06So for this manager to be in this position and help these
- 54:09prospects become who they are, and now this seems a legitimate
- 54:13threat in the AL. He deserves this for multiple,
- 54:18multiple years of good managing. Took a team that lost 115. 115
- 54:26games the season before he arrived to the 4th most wins in
- 54:30franchise history in his fifth season.
- 54:34There you go. The only the only AL manager
- 54:42with 100 plus wins in the regular season.
- 54:44So there you go. Seemed like a no brainer to me.
- 54:48Skip Schumacher, like you said, kind of caught me off guard a
- 54:51little bit. I don't hate it.
- 54:53I'm not disliking. It it was just a surprise.
- 55:01I mean the and and it's nothing against these guys, but it's
- 55:08hard for me to pull for the OR to say that I would have voted
- 55:13for some of these guys who just managed juggernauts like I know
- 55:17that's an inherent challenge even in and of itself like we
- 55:20just talked about with Melvin and the challenges that that
- 55:23come with. Managing a bunch of superstars
- 55:26and all that and and trying to keep those guys in line over the
- 55:29course of 162. But a guy like Brandon Hyde, who
- 55:36we just talked about very rough tenure starting out, having to
- 55:41turn that all around. Skip Schumacher, obviously not
- 55:45having even a Really. Any semblance of a competitive
- 55:53team was able to take what he had and and at least get them to
- 55:58the dance, albeit getting waxed in the wild card round.
- 56:03But as we said, doesn't factor in here.
- 56:06But it's just to me, it's easier to vote for a manager like that.
- 56:10Like if I was, if I had a vote, it would be easier to vote for a
- 56:14guy like that over a guy like snicker, where it's like, right?
- 56:20I don't know. Yeah, for anybody.
- 56:23Just kind of scrolling through the comments, you know, You
- 56:25know, Facebook always brings the heat For anybody talking snit, I
- 56:33get it. I understand it.
- 56:34But for anybody talking Lavello, Please remember that the
- 56:39Diamondbacks were not at all on your radar before the
- 56:42postseason, and that's when this voting happens.
- 56:44So remember that? How many?
- 56:50How many wins did the the Marlins finish with because they
- 56:55had the If I was a betting man, I'd say did they the seven?
- 57:04What seed did they finish in the wild card though last?
- 57:08They were the last one. Yeah.
- 57:10We got swept by the Phillies. I'll never forget.
- 57:12It no, they weren't. The no they weren't.
- 57:15The D backs finished last. Really.
- 57:19Because they remember they played the Brewers.
- 57:23Oh yeah, yeah, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah 'cause the last place will
- 57:26face the division winner. That's.
- 57:27Right, the Phillies. But how many wins did they
- 57:31finish with? The Marlins?
- 57:34Finish 84. So the Marlins.
- 57:37So you can't even really make the the win Total argument,
- 57:42'cause you could look at the D bags like, well, they finish two
- 57:44games above 500. But I mean, so did the Marlins.
- 57:48But. I think you could safely say
- 57:54that the expectations for the D backs and that's partially I
- 57:57think why collectively probably a little more so me, we're a
- 58:03little higher on the D backs than in years past coming in
- 58:05this year because you're looking at going, you know this team
- 58:08could do something in October and sure enough the Marlins
- 58:11continue to surprise me. Yeah, so I mean.
- 58:17Maybe not a no brainer, but I'm not buying into what's going on
- 58:20there. Yeah, Kim ING leaving tells you
- 58:25all you need to need to know. Good for not it.
- 58:29Not a no brainer, but a good yeah.
- 58:30Good pick. Cy Young.
- 58:33Garrett Cole. Blake Snell.
- 58:37Look I'll raise my hand. Congrats to Garrett Cole he
- 58:42finally that was that was my biggest hang up with this guy.
- 58:46Every year, the preseason favorite to win the Cy Young and
- 58:50year after year. And you've been right.
- 58:53You've been right to complain about it.
- 58:55Never panned out. And I'm going, OK, if this guy
- 58:58is as good as they say he is, he hasn't even.
- 59:04It's how many years has he been? How many years has he been
- 59:08throwing? Now he's got to be getting into
- 59:12like Year 9 or 10. A year after, That's what I'm
- 59:16saying. A year after year, for sure.
- 59:19I fully understand it. He look, he finally did it.
- 59:22So I'm. I'm here, Congratulate him and
- 59:25look, I'd like to see Jared Carabas put his hand up.
- 59:28I haven't looked. Has he?
- 59:29I. Don't know.
- 59:31But you know, I was thinking about it today because I'm like,
- 59:33how am I going to go about talking about this?
- 59:37I I think it's good for baseball.
- 59:39Because if you're going to have a bit like if if the Yankees are
- 59:42going to have any chance of returning into the Evil Empire,
- 59:45and if Garrett Cole is going to have any chance of being at the
- 59:49helm of that villain mode, then you want him to at least have.
- 59:55Like some some juice behind it. Because then you gotta be able
- 59:59to. The trophies have to back it up,
- 1:00:01yeah? Right.
- 1:00:02You can, you can kind of clap back, you can let your, you can
- 1:00:04let your hardware speak for itself.
- 1:00:06So I think it's at least better for baseball in that sense.
- 1:00:09But. I like that.
- 1:00:10Still think the guy's a bum, but, you know, tip of the cap to
- 1:00:13coal. Fair enough, Fair enough.
- 1:00:16I appreciate that Fun to watch. Obviously, Yankee fan here
- 1:00:20watched pretty much all of his starts all year.
- 1:00:23He. Was commanding.
- 1:00:26And I know that you like to poke fun at him when he's like when
- 1:00:31he gets upset if, but he is a perfectionist and it's like you
- 1:00:34can tell if he gets pissed if if he misses his spots or he really
- 1:00:39gets on his catchers. So it's like you can hate on him
- 1:00:43if you want to, but when an ace steps up, acts like an ace and
- 1:00:47brings home a trophy, like an ace walks like a duck, talks
- 1:00:52like a duck. I'm here.
- 1:00:55He talks like a He talks like a duck.
- 1:00:58See what I mean? You could just everybody could
- 1:01:00throw shade, they could say. Whatever they want.
- 1:01:04If my man continues to be a Cy Young candidate and locks it
- 1:01:08down, I'm cool. Is it you think?
- 1:01:11Is Kermit related to a duck? I don't know.
- 1:01:13But you know, those phone calls were like the like the Pizza Hut
- 1:01:17we'll call Domino's or something like that, and you just put the
- 1:01:20phones together. Love Patrick Mahomes and Garrett
- 1:01:23Cole to just do that the same thing. 2 phones together would
- 1:01:25be gold. That would be gold.
- 1:01:30I had never thought about that. That is hilarious.
- 1:01:32That's hilarious. Blake Snell.
- 1:01:35Yeah, I mean, he's got to be the.
- 1:01:39Special stuff, dude. He's got to be.
- 1:01:44I thought I had this note. He's got to be the first guy to
- 1:01:50win the Cy Young after leading the league in ERA and walks,
- 1:01:54right? Maybe the 2nd it's?
- 1:01:56A new it's This is Is this like the new home runs and
- 1:02:01strikeouts? Conversation, I suppose, walks.
- 1:02:06Are are less? I don't know.
- 1:02:07I can't. I'll never get on board for
- 1:02:09that, no matter what the analytics say.
- 1:02:10If you tell me that walks are less important, yeah, well, I
- 1:02:13mean, well, he he proved you that he can manage it like.
- 1:02:18Yeah, Walksby damned. He's going to.
- 1:02:21He's going to figure a way out of it.
- 1:02:24But the more impressive note to come from this was that he
- 1:02:28became the 7th player to win the award in each league.
- 1:02:34I put a post out about it, but do you?
- 1:02:36How many of those do you think you can name?
- 1:02:41I mean, I'm really putting you on the spot here, but.
- 1:02:45I'd guess Clemens. Clemens.
- 1:02:48Randy. Randy.
- 1:02:55Shilling. Oh, good guess, but no.
- 1:03:00Didn't get one in Boston, did he?
- 1:03:04No. Pedro, Pedro.
- 1:03:13Roy Holiday? Roy Holiday.
- 1:03:20I'm not going to be good with the older names.
- 1:03:22There's still, there's still a current current day guy on here.
- 1:03:29Verlander. Scherzer.
- 1:03:34We got to think Verlander has only been.
- 1:03:37Hey, yo. Yeah, I don't know what I was
- 1:03:38thinking there. I think the only other one you
- 1:03:45missed, Gaylord Perry. I think you got everybody else.
- 1:03:47Dang. I would have never dropped that.
- 1:03:49Yeah, no. But yeah, seven player.
- 1:03:53Another thumbs up for that should come up on my screen.
- 1:03:57I want that. Does it just register?
- 1:04:00There you go. It registers that I'm putting up
- 1:04:02the the thumbs up. Oh, that's what it is.
- 1:04:05It's because when I'm like counting, when I'm like listing
- 1:04:07stuff off, it registers my thumbs up.
- 1:04:10That's what it is. OK.
- 1:04:12If you don't know what we're talking about, check us out on
- 1:04:14YouTube, rate, review, subscribe, all the stuff, boom,
- 1:04:19MVP. I mean no sense even talking
- 1:04:23about it. Shohei, Acuna.
- 1:04:24I think the the one thing we do have to note here before we move
- 1:04:27on showing up to the award announcement with his dog.
- 1:04:37I mean, how how great was that? I'm, I'm here for it.
- 1:04:41Can we make this a thing now? Well, actually, no, no, no, I
- 1:04:44don't want to make it a thing that I want this to be show
- 1:04:46Hasting because he's going to be there every year.
- 1:04:48He's going to be. He's going to continue.
- 1:04:50To get more and more likable, doesn't he like he gets more and
- 1:04:53more likable. I think I fought it in the
- 1:04:55beginning and I'm like, why you can't?
- 1:04:57He's adorable. You can't say one negative thing
- 1:05:01about. This he can't.
- 1:05:03You can't. I mean, I'm trying to think of
- 1:05:05one right now and I can't. Doesn't matter.
- 1:05:09Like, maybe, maybe he doesn't pick up all of the trash when
- 1:05:13he's going around to these different ballparks, picking up
- 1:05:15trash on his on his days off because he likes making a habit
- 1:05:21of that picking up trash. Maybe he doesn't get the man the
- 1:05:23trash. Honestly, he's the man.
- 1:05:30When do you think? When do you think that bombs
- 1:05:32going to drop? At what point of the offseason?
- 1:05:34I'll say pre Christmas, pre Christmas.
- 1:05:38Yeah, he's a he's a routine guy. He's a regiment guy.
- 1:05:42He he needs to get his stuff figured out.
- 1:05:44You can. He's going to want to have a
- 1:05:46home before then. That's my guess.
- 1:05:50So we got. I would say how about pre New
- 1:05:52year? How about pre New Year?
- 1:05:53Just that's very OK by the end of the year, Yeah, end of the
- 1:05:56year, OK. I like that.
- 1:05:58I like that Ronald Cunha junior. I think it's a dump for me.
- 1:06:10I mean, just to be safe, I had the Mookie graphic ready to
- 1:06:14drop, but I was like, this is a waste of my time.
- 1:06:17What am I doing? I will say though, on that note,
- 1:06:24I'm glad I had the Skip Schumacher graphic made-up
- 1:06:27because I was not expecting that and I was like, wow, I really
- 1:06:31love that here. But yeah, no brainer for Acuna
- 1:06:36And Mookie actually actually came in second on all 30 of the
- 1:06:40ballots, which I thought was pretty interesting.
- 1:06:45Good. For Mookie, also another thing I
- 1:06:47didn't realize about Acunia because everybody was so swept
- 1:06:50up with the stolen base conversation and the and the the
- 1:06:55What was it? The 4070?
- 1:06:58I did not realize he was second in the league in batting
- 1:07:02average. Again, not that people really
- 1:07:04care about that anymore, but finished behind a rise did not
- 1:07:08realize that. It's it's nuts, dude.
- 1:07:11It's nuts like he is the total package for sure.
- 1:07:17Man. Tell you what, Braves fans have
- 1:07:20a lot to be excited about. Oakland A's fans, however, do
- 1:07:25not. Let's let's shift gears here.
- 1:07:28Let's run through some news and notes from around the league
- 1:07:32that have have made headlines as of late.
- 1:07:36Oakland It was announced on Thursday that the owners voted
- 1:07:50unanimously to get the A's out of town.
- 1:07:57Another Duh. It's a no brainer.
- 1:08:04Now next step is getting that owner out of his seat, John
- 1:08:08Fisher, with possibly the quote of the year.
- 1:08:16Today is an incredibly difficult day for Oakland A's fans, but
- 1:08:21it's a great day for Las Vegas. Read the room, John.
- 1:08:27Come on guy. Just brutal.
- 1:08:30I mean, I know you. You've had a very difficult time
- 1:08:34reading the room during your stay in Oakland, but my
- 1:08:39goodness, talk about twisting the knife.
- 1:08:46Unbelievable. How?
- 1:08:48Like how? Do you say that?
- 1:08:50At A at a certain point, and I mean he's been hearing it for
- 1:08:54years on all ends, how bad of an owner he is, which I don't
- 1:08:58disagree with. You can't hate the man for for
- 1:09:02shooting back one last. That's like the definition of
- 1:09:05getting the last word in the argument.
- 1:09:08The definition props, honestly, is cold blooded.
- 1:09:15I'm here for it, yeah. I mean, get a little attitude,
- 1:09:20man. From that.
- 1:09:21From that. I mean, I've always, I've said
- 1:09:24for the life of this podcast, I'm here for the pettiness.
- 1:09:27Yeah. And I I mean, I can't hate the
- 1:09:30man from that point of. View But we can't.
- 1:09:33We can't shift our seats now dude.
- 1:09:35You and I have been you wanted him to stay.
- 1:09:39Then you show up and support your club and which by the way,
- 1:09:44I'm I still get notifications about comments on that video
- 1:09:50that I put out about. I don't even remember how long
- 1:09:52ago that was, but I basically just said you go back, you look
- 1:09:56at the attendance numbers because the the whole thing, the
- 1:09:59whole thing with the A's fans is that well we didn't have it it
- 1:10:04who's going to come out and root for a non competitive team?
- 1:10:08OK, you go back, you look at the A's teams the last decade that
- 1:10:12made it to the post season, look at the attendance numbers and
- 1:10:15tell me that that's still the case because it's not and the
- 1:10:18numbers show that. So don't sit there and try to
- 1:10:21tell me. Well it's it's because of the
- 1:10:23product that's on the field. OK.
- 1:10:25If that's the case then why weren't you there in the mid
- 1:10:27twenty 10s? You weren't.
- 1:10:30So don't don't be playing your tiny violin now because I I just
- 1:10:34have no interest in hearing it and whether it pans out in
- 1:10:37Vegas, that's not that's that's a whole separate conversation.
- 1:10:41But it it wasn't going to pan out here and and A's fans know
- 1:10:45that. Vegas A's sounds fire, so it's
- 1:10:51awfully close to the Vegas Aces, which I think we.
- 1:10:54Determined. Most likely.
- 1:10:56WNBA team. Yeah.
- 1:10:59Bye. Bye.
- 1:10:59You're gone. No, I'm just kidding.
- 1:11:02Say no. Didn't they, like, just win the
- 1:11:05whole freaking thing? Really couldn't tell you that.
- 1:11:08Yeah. Why am I asking you that?
- 1:11:10Oh, man, hold on. Kind of look like a jerk.
- 1:11:12If I'm right on this, If I'm right on this, talk about
- 1:11:15recall. Hold on.
- 1:11:21The Aces became the first WNBA team in 21 years, went
- 1:11:25back-to-back titles. Oh, there you go.
- 1:11:27The only thing I knew is how about that?
- 1:11:29I think the chick that one of the chicks is dating Darren
- 1:11:32Waller at tight end of the Giants.
- 1:11:33That's the only thing I know about the WNBA as a whole.
- 1:11:37I know that St. Brittany.
- 1:11:39Griner plays here in Phoenix that those are the two things
- 1:11:42I've Is she back? I don't even know if she's back.
- 1:11:45They brought. Her back.
- 1:11:46Oh, she's back. Yeah, yeah, she's back.
- 1:11:48Don't get me started there. No, I think.
- 1:11:51What's your name? Kelsey Plum.
- 1:12:00Girl's a baller, man. Yeah.
- 1:12:01She. Yeah, she plays for the Aces.
- 1:12:02Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 1:12:04Yeah. So let's not just, I mean say
- 1:12:06what you will about the NBA but or the WNBA, but we're not going
- 1:12:08to necessarily brush the back-to-back.
- 1:12:11Champs. I like it.
- 1:12:12Look, look like Vegas has needed this and next step is there's
- 1:12:19got to be the NBA. So why did I think they already
- 1:12:27had? OK, so I got hockey.
- 1:12:30I got football team. Now they got baseball.
- 1:12:32Raiders ace aces. No NBA the.
- 1:12:38Kings. Sacramento.
- 1:12:42Oh, Knights. Knights.
- 1:12:43Knights. Sorry.
- 1:12:44When you said hockey, I was looking.
- 1:12:46I was thinking of the logo. It's Knights.
- 1:12:49Yeah, but that that would be a candidate.
- 1:12:52Yeah, Sacramento Kings. Nothing.
- 1:12:54No one in Sacramento cares about them.
- 1:12:57Move them to Vegas. Vegas needs to have all of them.
- 1:13:00It's. It's a no brainer to me.
- 1:13:03It's the capital of sports betting.
- 1:13:05Why would you not have? That's, that's my whole thing.
- 1:13:07Like, even if they Even if the baseball team sucks, which I'm
- 1:13:10sure it will right out of the game.
- 1:13:11Find a way to make it a show. So yeah, I'd rather have an A
- 1:13:15product attempt to be entertaining in Las Vegas than I
- 1:13:19would Oakland. Because look, the reality of it
- 1:13:21is you're. Going to be able to attract.
- 1:13:22You're going to be able to attract free agents now too if
- 1:13:25you're a bit not take take baseball out of it if you're a
- 1:13:29business. I'm not getting political here.
- 1:13:31I'm not talking about the mayor or anything, but I'm just saying
- 1:13:35the reality of it is, is if you're just a general business,
- 1:13:38you're probably pulling out of Oakland right about now because
- 1:13:42it's state. The state of California has has
- 1:13:46it got some some trouble on their hands.
- 1:13:49So I like from a business point of view, like I understand it
- 1:13:53sucks for the fans that the die hards.
- 1:13:55I get that. But like.
- 1:13:58This makes sense I. Say that.
- 1:14:02It's not like it's not like these other owners are idiots.
- 1:14:06They're business owners. They're right.
- 1:14:08Like in this sports franchise that they own is probably not
- 1:14:12the only thing they own. I think they understand on a
- 1:14:15business sense it's better for them too.
- 1:14:17It's better for baseball. And what do we say all of the
- 1:14:19time about? So many of these owners care
- 1:14:22more about baseball. So, like, you can guarantee if
- 1:14:25they're sitting down talking about relocation, from a
- 1:14:28business perspective, this is better and they don't care about
- 1:14:31baseball. This was the easiest decision
- 1:14:33they've probably ever made in their lives.
- 1:14:35And think about like the amount of one of the best players in
- 1:14:38baseball right now is from that area.
- 1:14:40So, like, Nevada produces baseball players left and right.
- 1:14:45This is a no brainer, no? But wrapping up my earlier
- 1:14:51point, I I know I said all about all that about Oakland and
- 1:14:54California. It's not exactly like Vegas is
- 1:14:57the beacon of morality, no? Yeah, but like, again, from a
- 1:15:02business, from an entertainment point of view, I don't have any
- 1:15:06complaints about it. Although I did see that it's not
- 1:15:08technically official. I think we can assume that it's.
- 1:15:12I think it's pretty official, pretty much there.
- 1:15:13How do you feel? About them not even being able
- 1:15:15to play there until like 2028 or something.
- 1:15:17Dude, I saw. It's kind of whack.
- 1:15:19I saw an article the other day that said that they could
- 1:15:23possibly play it split their their time in Oracle.
- 1:15:26Yeah, what are we doing? Yeah, just go do what the Jays
- 1:15:33did. Go to A AAA park, go to a spring
- 1:15:36trail, Whatever. It's weird.
- 1:15:38Get out. Get out of the Bay.
- 1:15:41Get out of the Bay. It's weird.
- 1:15:43And I saw that they're talk. The fans are organizing A
- 1:15:46boycott for opening day next year.
- 1:15:47I'm like, for what? Like the the reverse boycott was
- 1:15:55cool and all that, but like, for what?
- 1:15:57Yeah. I think Ace fans are just a
- 1:16:02bunch of social media warriors, dude.
- 1:16:06I've I've said my piece. I don't want to get any more
- 1:16:08trouble with Ace fans than I am right now.
- 1:16:10What do we got next year? The pitch clock Major League
- 1:16:16Baseball's Competition Committee committee is weighing a proposal
- 1:16:20that would reduce the pitch clock with runners on base from
- 1:16:2320 seconds to 18 seconds. Whatever I don't, I've given up.
- 1:16:29I don't care. What's 2 seconds?
- 1:16:33You already got it implemented. What's 2 seconds?
- 1:16:36Sure. I don't have the energy to fight
- 1:16:39you on this. You got to, you got to pick your
- 1:16:40battles. This is not one of them.
- 1:16:42Got to pick and choose your battles.
- 1:16:43I just think it's. I mean, I I I agree with you on
- 1:16:46that front. I'm just saying in a world where
- 1:16:50Major League Baseball had to hear a, had to hear the
- 1:16:53conversation from players and fans alike saying, all right if
- 1:16:58we're going to go with this pitch clock, can we tack on like
- 1:17:02maybe 2 seconds? Like we'll we'll keep the game
- 1:17:04moving, but give us just like, maybe, you know, two more
- 1:17:06seconds. Yeah.
- 1:17:08And they're just like, we'll do you one better.
- 1:17:11We'll take two seconds off. I don't, I don't know what
- 1:17:17you're right. What I do know is that like in
- 1:17:19seat services need to really step up their game.
- 1:17:22That's going to be the next thing you're going to see in
- 1:17:24stadiums. In seat services need to like,
- 1:17:27you need better vendors, you need better food being brought
- 1:17:30around. You need, you need it quicker.
- 1:17:32You need the delivery work in. That the second an owner decides
- 1:17:36to do that in his stadium, you're in good shape because he
- 1:17:42can't move. Might as well put a toilet right
- 1:17:45in front of you too. Bring a just bring a bedpan
- 1:17:49that. That's Major League Baseball
- 1:17:51where the parks the park. Yes, the park should do that in.
- 1:17:54In addition, in addition, in addition to clear bags, in those
- 1:18:04clear bags you should be allowed to bring a bedpan.
- 1:18:07That rule is just straight booty straight.
- 1:18:11So that fat lady snuck in a gun in Chicago.
- 1:18:13So don't talk to me about a clear bag anymore.
- 1:18:15To be fair, it wasn't in her bag.
- 1:18:17It was literally like in her. So that's that's.
- 1:18:21I want clear stomachs 2025 All Star game coming back to
- 1:18:31Atlanta, I guess. You could say what a weird.
- 1:18:37Yeah, there's certain things we're not going to touch with a
- 1:18:4010 foot pole, but I will say this is going to be perfect.
- 1:18:44I've been around that stadium, although like the shops and the
- 1:18:47restaurants and just a lot. You see a lot of these teams
- 1:18:50trying to do this now. They're building like
- 1:18:52entertainment around the ballpark before the game.
- 1:18:56You're going to love it if you're an All Star fan.
- 1:18:58If you're a, you know, a fan of baseball in general, you will
- 1:19:01love that experience. Down in Atlanta, who was the
- 1:19:07Mets Cohen was talking about doing this with with the.
- 1:19:12City, I think the Red Sox are doing something right.
- 1:19:14I think they purchased like yeah, they've got few blocks
- 1:19:18around there. Yeah, they put, didn't I?
- 1:19:23I think we like walked by it when they had it kind of marked
- 1:19:26off. It's.
- 1:19:27They've got the. It's like a bunch of book or
- 1:19:30whatever. Yeah, yeah, Chicago.
- 1:19:33Chicago's doing it with the hotel like these, these, they're
- 1:19:39starting to figure it out. Like you can make this an all
- 1:19:41day thing. And that's what Atlanta has down
- 1:19:45there. It's sick.
- 1:19:45I'm a huge fan. Huge huge fan.
- 1:19:48I'm about it. No, you said we're not going to
- 1:19:51touch it with a 10 foot fall. I'm going to let's let's at
- 1:19:54least let's tinker with it. We don't need to.
- 1:19:56We don't need to open the can of worms.
- 1:19:59But from all that I've read, nothing that sparked the initial
- 1:20:03decision back in what was that 2021, nothing has changed.
- 1:20:11So. It's still going to be an issue
- 1:20:13for your next election. Is this Major League Baseball's
- 1:20:16way of saying, hey, maybe we were a little too quick from the
- 1:20:20hip? Because nothing's nothing's
- 1:20:23changed. Maybe Major League Baseball got
- 1:20:26a little reactionary. Possibly.
- 1:20:30Maybe stay out of politics. Maybe all I have to say though,
- 1:20:36happy for Atlanta. You know, regardless of the
- 1:20:40decision. Like the the Braves and the city
- 1:20:43of Atlanta were the ones that. Ultimately suffered from the
- 1:20:47decision to pull it out because you think about all the money
- 1:20:49that would have gone into the businesses and the restaurants
- 1:20:52and this and that but happy for them they final they they
- 1:20:56finally get it back there. So 2025 we've got Texas, next
- 1:21:02year going to be down in in Dallas, 2025 Atlanta and then
- 1:21:102026 will be Philly. To mark the two 250th
- 1:21:18anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
- 1:21:21So sick. Little nugget for you.
- 1:21:23Love that. We may have mentioned it, but we
- 1:21:26need to go to that cool down. Also also given Philly A 100%
- 1:21:33down. Speaking of Philly close,
- 1:21:37closing it up here. Just broke today Aaron Nola.
- 1:21:41Heading back to Philly, Staying in Philly I should say on A7
- 1:21:46year, $172 million contract. Just I I know they didn't get
- 1:21:53over the hump. I understand they kind of
- 1:21:55choked. But I'm, I can't help but feel
- 1:22:00all things are going Philly way. All things are going Philly way
- 1:22:05when your fans are this bought in and they've now created your
- 1:22:09players to be this bought in. Your manager is just went from
- 1:22:15interim to being beloved. Your GM has been bouncing around
- 1:22:20between jobs all around the league spending a ton of money.
- 1:22:23Sometimes it panned out, sometimes it doesn't.
- 1:22:26All things are going Philly way and for Nola to say no to more
- 1:22:30money elsewhere to stick around proves to you how bought in.
- 1:22:35Every single person in Philly is pulling the rope in the same
- 1:22:39direction. Everybody.
- 1:22:41And on that note, because I saw, I saw some snarky tweets from
- 1:22:46Braves fans being like, OK, so when?
- 1:22:48So when Phillies fan or when Phillies players take less money
- 1:22:53to stick around for the movement, it's OK, we we praise
- 1:22:57it. But when the Braves, the
- 1:22:59difference is you've got a 30 year old free agent.
- 1:23:02Thank you. You're you're not getting these
- 1:23:04guys when they're like coming out of 6th grade, when they're
- 1:23:07graduating to middle school going, hey, you know, we like
- 1:23:10what you what you bring to the table.
- 1:23:12As a 12 year old, we want to lock you down for the next 12
- 1:23:17years for 60 bucks. How does that sound?
- 1:23:21Nailed it. And as a 12 year old, you're
- 1:23:24probably going, you know, I'll take that sixty spot.
- 1:23:26I get 5 bucks every other week for allowance, so I'll take 60
- 1:23:31bucks. That's the difference.
- 1:23:35So don't try to compare. We're we're talking about apples
- 1:23:37and oranges here, so don't spare me on that comparison.
- 1:23:43It's not the same. Not the same.
- 1:23:46But yeah, love this, love this for Nola there I saw some
- 1:23:49reports. Again, this just goes to show
- 1:23:51you that nobody at the end of the day really knows what
- 1:23:54they're talking about because you there's reports floating
- 1:23:57around saying Nola not likely to resign in Philly.
- 1:24:03True. Which gave a lot of other teams
- 1:24:05around the league hope you know you see these mock up rotations
- 1:24:09you're going man he looks that could be a good fit there could
- 1:24:12be a good fit there. Heck, I even know the socks were
- 1:24:17were likely in on that and that would have been a heck of a
- 1:24:20Braves fans. Braves fans are just hating
- 1:24:22because they were big on that. Oh yeah, I think everybody in
- 1:24:27Atlanta was big on that fit. Oh yeah, they were.
- 1:24:30And I think a lot. Rightly so.
- 1:24:32They're probably banking on that being if if he was going to
- 1:24:35move, that would have been the destination.
- 1:24:37But I love it again, some quasi honorary bandwagon Philly fan on
- 1:24:50the NL side of things. I'm here for it, dude.
- 1:24:55I love it. It just feels like they're doing
- 1:24:58everything the right way. They're like, Oh yeah, Bryce,
- 1:25:00you're going to stay at first base, like, and it's a perfect
- 1:25:03fit. And let's just do this moving
- 1:25:04forward. Like it's just everyone's so
- 1:25:07bought in, dude, like it. And it's, it's over and over
- 1:25:12again. It's boom, it's Trey Turner,
- 1:25:14it's it's Bryce, it's, you know, Philly Rob, it's these fans.
- 1:25:18It's like every story is just staying together.
- 1:25:23The fairy tale is not over. And I know it hasn't been, it
- 1:25:26hasn't had a ring attached yet. But it will.
- 1:25:30I'm telling you it will. It has to.
- 1:25:31At this point, it's all their direction.
- 1:25:37That's going to make a heck of a World Series film.
- 1:25:39When it finally does happen, you got, you got to save that
- 1:25:42receipt. I'll tell you what, especially,
- 1:25:47like, think about it, dude. If they could do it this coming
- 1:25:51season, I mean, we're not going to.
- 1:25:54Tiptoe and it like predictions or anything, and I'm not like
- 1:25:57showing my hand on anything. I haven't even thought about
- 1:25:592020 four at all. Predictions yet, but just with
- 1:26:03the way the timeline has panned out for them, like you said,
- 1:26:06they've gotten close. Everybody still for the most
- 1:26:10part on board here, if you can maybe make some makes the right
- 1:26:16moves, it's offseason to fill in any, any and all gaps that may
- 1:26:20be there. Oh, that was the other thing
- 1:26:22saying absolutely not to trading Castellanos.
- 1:26:26Nikki Blast is saying like that. I don't know dude.
- 1:26:30It's just everyone is the the organization and the players and
- 1:26:35the fans all being on the same page at once.
- 1:26:38Think of how rare that is. It's cool to see.
- 1:26:43I'm jealous. I read an article today that
- 1:26:46said that they're possibly talking about working on an
- 1:26:49extension for Harper. He's 5, he's five years into a,
- 1:26:55what, a 13 year deal, and we're talking about more years and
- 1:26:59more money. To be fair though, you have to
- 1:27:01remember he's like the 20, His contract is like 20, 4th, I
- 1:27:07think, yeah, yeah. In term I want to say in terms
- 1:27:10of what Avi guess. So like before you get I just
- 1:27:17all been out of shape, it's just really nice to see and any other
- 1:27:21fan base that is hating on that is either a division rival or
- 1:27:26jealous. It's going to make for quite a
- 1:27:34movie, quite a movie. Speaking of movie, we pretty
- 1:27:41much ran the length of a a motion picture for this episode,
- 1:27:44but sure did. You got any?
- 1:27:46You got anything else before we get out of here?
- 1:27:48No. Forgot how how this felt, to be
- 1:27:52honest. It feels good.
- 1:27:55You start dropping names, you start pulling names out of it
- 1:27:58and you're like, whoa, I haven't thought about this guy in weeks
- 1:28:00and all of a sudden you're just it's nice.
- 1:28:03I feel like the rust was not on there's.
- 1:28:07Minimal I I feel like, Yeah, which?
- 1:28:10Goes to show you how how tapped in you you kind of have to be in
- 1:28:16a 162 to be able to just pull this out like the recall had.
- 1:28:20The fact that it's still kind of there, yeah, I'm proud of us.
- 1:28:24That's a long Can we? Well, now that we know that it
- 1:28:27like we're, we still kind of got it, can we like maybe keep the
- 1:28:31brake going a little bit. Can we maybe tap back, tap back
- 1:28:34in for maybe another week or two off right, revisit this.
- 1:28:38I think we just kind of let the offseason depict that.
- 1:28:42Maybe for the next week or two, Who knows?
- 1:28:44That's that's true. Well, we got to, we got to drop
- 1:28:46some change UPS I'm working on, we do.
- 1:28:49I'm very excited to get some change UPS rolling.
- 1:28:51I got a running list, and I know you got a busy schedule this
- 1:28:56week, but if there's maybe oh, I'll make time for a change up
- 1:28:59episode. You know that if you want to.
- 1:29:01We could do one on Thanksgiving. We could do like a Thanksgiving
- 1:29:04change up. And just talk all things
- 1:29:07Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving morning, I'm in.
- 1:29:10Traditions I'm in. I'm not kidding.
- 1:29:13No, I'm not saying all we don't have to do it on Thanksgiving.
- 1:29:16I'm saying like leading up to it.
- 1:29:18Themed, like I'm in Thanksgiving themed.
- 1:29:20That's fine. I'm in.
- 1:29:22Can't do Wednesday, but we'll talk.
- 1:29:26I'm in. Maybe we can.
- 1:29:27Maybe we can for those who aren't aware by the way, because
- 1:29:29it has been a while, three O change up episodes are non
- 1:29:33baseball episodes. So we just.
- 1:29:37Little bonus pods, we just yeah, we just get after it with some
- 1:29:41bonus pods about random stuff, so.
- 1:29:44To this point, I don't. I don't have the full list in
- 1:29:47front of me. But we've talked about fast
- 1:29:49food, We've talked about Costco, the office, board games, all
- 1:29:57individual episodes. So if you're a fan of that and
- 1:30:01maybe just need to, no, it's no baseball.
- 1:30:05So I don't know what you are. Maybe your wives are finally
- 1:30:08wanting to listen to something that isn't baseball related.
- 1:30:12Hey, it's a good way for you guys to know, to know our
- 1:30:15personality a little bit more. And now we get to talk about
- 1:30:17some things we like. Some things maybe we don't like
- 1:30:20as much, but we are oddly passionate about other things
- 1:30:23besides baseball. Don't worry.
- 1:30:25Yeah, Costco is a perfect example.
- 1:30:27Go back and listen to Costco change up.
- 1:30:28It's, it's it's weirdly placed passion, but it's there.
- 1:30:32We get after it, all right. It's good to be back.
- 1:30:36I think the plan for now is still going to be one a week, as
- 1:30:40it usually is in the offseason. But that may change.
- 1:30:44Who knows if things get, if things get hot and heavy, we
- 1:30:47may, we may bump it up to two. We're always looking to to
- 1:30:51switch things up, you know, to keep you on your toes, keep
- 1:30:54ourselves on our toes, always need to better ourselves.
- 1:30:58We will. We'll see how things go.
- 1:31:00But for right now. We'll see you guys possibly
- 1:31:05later this week with a change up, but at at worst Thanksgiving
- 1:31:09change up sounds so far. At worst, if that doesn't
- 1:31:13happen, you'll hear from us next week.
- 1:31:18Sick. Love it.
- 1:31:20Oh, but. You got like 2 more minutes.
- 1:31:26What do you got? I completely.
- 1:31:29I completely. I completely forgot I was
- 1:31:33setting us up to get out to get out of here right on time sort
- 1:31:37of. But I forgot the D backs
- 1:31:39uniforms. Let me get your super quick
- 1:31:42thoughts on the D backs uniforms.
- 1:31:44I'm a fan. Look, we've been we've been
- 1:31:47there. They're slowly coming back,
- 1:31:49trickling in. Dude, Tell.
- 1:31:51Me tell me they are not just bridging the gap to go on full
- 1:31:56purple and teal. With these, the red can go, the
- 1:31:59red can go. I don't think anyone here is
- 1:32:02super attached to the red. The teal, if you honestly just
- 1:32:11make black like a big component, even if it was black, black and
- 1:32:14teal like I'm in the. Black alternates, money fire.
- 1:32:20The teal being back is just, it's it's very good, very, very
- 1:32:23good. But also, that's the thing.
- 1:32:24It's not the it's not the old teal.
- 1:32:27It's this like new electric. Teal, I think they call it.
- 1:32:31Yeah. So it's not, it's not the 2000s
- 1:32:34teal. Also not to be a hater because I
- 1:32:37don't. I don't have time and I don't
- 1:32:39really want to be that big of a hater.
- 1:32:40But to me, this is like a super insecure Diamondbacks thing to
- 1:32:44do. You weren't supposed to get to
- 1:32:48the World Series and then you lose.
- 1:32:51And you're like, no, don't worry, please come back.
- 1:32:53We have more to show you. And well, I mean, they had new
- 1:32:58uniforms to try to get people to come back.
- 1:33:00No, they had to have been put on this.
- 1:33:02That's all they said. I don't know.
- 1:33:04Trust me they this was well this was this has been in the works
- 1:33:08for a while. You just saw pull this out in a
- 1:33:10week and say, oh, I would, I don't know, I'm just saying.
- 1:33:15I will say though, dude, and I can't explain it, it for all
- 1:33:19intents and purposes it's not like the greatest hat I've ever
- 1:33:22seen. But I am oddly drawn.
- 1:33:26To the Black Hat with the red brim and the old snake D on it.
- 1:33:32I love love that hat and I can't.
- 1:33:35Again cannot explain to you why, but I love it.
- 1:33:39It's what they wear with the Gray with the road Grays.
- 1:33:43Yeah, that hat is. That is sick, which is why I'm
- 1:33:48not on board with getting rid of the red, because also the red
- 1:33:52alternates are strong. The red does wear.
- 1:33:54It's been dry. It's been they've dimmed down
- 1:33:57the red a little bit. Yeah.
- 1:33:59So they get rid of the sand. They go full red, black and
- 1:34:03electric teal. Those hat.
- 1:34:06That hat is sick. That is such a sick hat.
- 1:34:10The only union I'm really I'm really not on board with here of
- 1:34:13these four is the the off white. Honestly.
- 1:34:16Really. The teal looks weird on that.
- 1:34:20It does and it looks I saw a comment because I was trying to
- 1:34:23figure out why I felt that way, but it I saw a comment that said
- 1:34:26it looks like a create a uniform on MLB The Show and I'm like
- 1:34:30kind of does. That makes sense.
- 1:34:31You just slap the logo on a yeah, like a like a with the
- 1:34:35piping. Yeah, but yeah, dude, actually
- 1:34:40the red, now that I'm more like, I'm looking at this, The all
- 1:34:45red, the all Red Hat. The old school D is superior.
- 1:34:49I think we can all. Absolutely.
- 1:34:51We can all agree there. Yeah, I'm totally on board of
- 1:34:54this rebrand. I love it.
- 1:34:56And I very well may be purchasing that that lid,
- 1:35:02because that is money. I'm there.
- 1:35:05I'm there with. You anyway, wanted to get that
- 1:35:08in there, but yeah, rewind here. You'll probably hear from us
- 1:35:14this week with a change up on related to Thanksgiving.
- 1:35:20At some point This week. I think we'd come out the gates.
- 1:35:22I think we'd come out the gates firing.
- 1:35:24I think this. I think I'll, I'll fully
- 1:35:26guarantee a Thanksgiving change up episode.
- 1:35:28How about that? Right.
- 1:35:29There you have it. Fully guaranteed.
- 1:35:32So we you will hear from us. Hear from us again this week,
- 1:35:35change up, and then we'll talk more baseball post Thanksgiving.
- 1:35:40Everyone have a happy Thanksgiving.
- 1:35:42Enjoy some Turkey. Enjoy some mashed potatoes.
- 1:35:47Skip the sweet potatoes. Nobody has time for that and
- 1:35:52just pour gravy on everything and we'll see.
- 1:35:55You guys demand quality stuffing.
- 1:35:57That's my last request. We'll get into that.
- 1:36:00Bam. Don't go chasing curveballs,
- 1:36:02folks. We love you all and as always,
- 1:36:04looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:36:06Until next time, stay filthy.
