- 1:17Episode 32. I am back.
- 1:20I didn't know. I got some messages saying that
- 1:23they missed me last week. I did miss everybody, but I
- 1:28really enjoyed my time away with three days of heavy metal and
- 1:32got my new tattoo. Watch my daughter crowd surf.
- 1:36It was fun and I'm still recovering by the way, so quick
- 1:41little announcement. I just want to let everybody
- 1:43know that Mike has stepped away from the podcast.
- 1:49Personal reasons. There's no hard feelings amongst
- 1:52any of us. We wish him the best of luck
- 1:54and. You know, you can pop in and say
- 1:57hi to us and chat once in a while.
- 1:59So I just want to put it out there.
- 2:01If y'all wondering, where's Mike?
- 2:02Yeah, he's he's no longer with us at this time.
- 2:05But on that note, we still have everybody else.
- 2:09We've got Bill, James and Josh tonight.
- 2:12How was your week, Josh? Not too bad, you know, Same old,
- 2:17same old. Well, I did end up calling out
- 2:19Wednesday because I think Monday, extreme heat Monday into
- 2:24Tuesday. Took me for a loop Monday I
- 2:26ended up at the end of the day with a nasty migraine and nausea
- 2:31got so bad I didn't quite make it home before I needed to grab
- 2:37a trash bag. Tuesday I was fine, but later in
- 2:40the evening I was still, you know, starting to get a little
- 2:43nauseous and I figured I'd probably better stay home on
- 2:46Wednesday. And I'm off Thursdays anyway for
- 2:49appointments, so I had the two days to.
- 2:52Relax in the house, in the air conditioning and recoup, and
- 2:57this week's going to be a short week too.
- 3:00Again, have the appointments Thursday and then we're supposed
- 3:04to go away to a convention next weekend, so I had already
- 3:09requested Friday, Saturday off a long time ago, so that'll be a
- 3:12nice change of pace. I'm glad to hear you're feeling
- 3:17better, people. He out there is no joke, that is
- 3:21for sure. And James, how was your week?
- 3:25Since I became regular and without any question, I worked
- 3:29my NS day. So I worked six days last week,
- 3:33which unfortunately wasn't comfortable for me.
- 3:36I'm not like working Saturdays. Like having that day to relax
- 3:39from working the route all week. I know, I know Rca's work, some
- 3:43Rca's work seven days a week. I know some regular carriers are
- 3:46on 8 routes now That used to be on cage and things like that.
- 3:50But you get so used to the pattern that you get up on a
- 3:54Saturday and go to work and it's like there's absolutely no
- 3:57traffic out there. Nobody's going to their eight to
- 3:59five jobs when you're going to your work.
- 4:01Did all right. To get into a little bit of a
- 4:04spat with my supervisor that day because he's like, we're going
- 4:07to hold these flats over for Monday.
- 4:09I'm like, are you insane? You're wanting to hold flats
- 4:13over for one of the heaviest metal days of the week?
- 4:16No, we're going to throw that stuff.
- 4:18We're going to get it out. And everybody was back before 4.
- 4:21So it's like, it's no big real deal that we got it all out.
- 4:24So kind of just made sure that happened at my office, but.
- 4:28Other than that, because of that I'm going to use that X day as
- 4:32one of the days I go to National Convention.
- 4:35So now I get to keep an annual day for something other than
- 4:39union activities. Nice, Bill.
- 4:44How was your week, sweetheart? I was forced in yesterday so I
- 4:49missed my grandpop day. Yeah, that that bummed me out,
- 4:55but but grandma liked it because since I wasn't around.
- 4:58The grandbaby was had her all day long, but the typical week
- 5:05in downtown Westchester, you know, people calling out Subs,
- 5:10not showing up the delayed mail. They want you to get out in
- 5:14three hours, but they're not done.
- 5:16The parcels to 10/15. The same old bullshit And you
- 5:21know, like James says, oh, they want to hold the mail to Monday
- 5:25are. I'm sorry, are you delaying
- 5:27mail? Is that what you're doing?
- 5:29Let me get this down in writing, please.
- 5:31It's just funny how, you know, they manipulate the rules and
- 5:34situations to their benefit, and it's not to anybody's benefit,
- 5:39you know, except for theirs, you know, making excuses.
- 5:43Because they fudge reports that they send up every day.
- 5:45You know, they they light our asses off on their telecoms and
- 5:48I just sit there and shake my head and it's like, oh God, we
- 5:51have a service talk today again. We got all ours, all six scans.
- 5:56No, folks, there's a hell of a lot more than six scans in
- 5:59there. But that's all they're worried
- 6:01about is getting those six scans staying off reports.
- 6:05So other than that, yeah, like the rest of the country, hot,
- 6:08hazy, humid air quality is poor. And you know, just, you know,
- 6:14take the breaks. Don't end up like Josh getting
- 6:16sick. Hydrate and take your breaks,
- 6:18folks. Yeah, when I got.
- 6:20This isn't the only one. I got.
- 6:22Back in the only one I got it last year, I had it last year.
- 6:25I was down for three days because of it.
- 6:27You know, we did that episode last week about heat.
- 6:30So if you guys want to go back and listen to that, there's a
- 6:32lot of good tips in there to survive the Heat if you want to
- 6:35listen to that. I got back in the office Tuesday
- 6:39and late. I literally just had my ox route
- 6:43Tuesday through Friday, with the exception of running some
- 6:47packages Tuesday and Wednesday for the overflow Whoever's
- 6:50bright idea was to hold 7 pallets of Amazon back on Monday
- 6:55for Tuesday when another thirteen came in on Tuesday.
- 6:58This is. This is first six routes and ox
- 7:03and three city routes. 20 pallets of Amazon on Tuesday.
- 7:06It was not pretty. My primary route ended up
- 7:09running two second trips. This is a 93 mile POV route he
- 7:14racked up because they had a whole another pallet there and
- 7:17he asked her do you want me to wait to get the We won't be able
- 7:20to break it down until after you leave.
- 7:23Well then she broke it down and scanned it to be out that day.
- 7:26He racked up 116 miles in second trip.
- 7:32It's not a second trip, it's straight time.
- 7:38The union has actually spoken on that and said that if it's it's
- 7:42a second trip, if you've already organized the parcels and have
- 7:46them ready to go for the route. And if it's not organized, it
- 7:49needs to be straight time. Plus mileage for EMA.
- 7:53Which I think on this matter he actually came out to the benefit
- 7:57with the better pay on the second trip.
- 8:02Carrier discretion. Carrier discretion at 3 minutes,
- 8:04a mile at 116 miles plus the EMA.
- 8:08Yeah, that was a nice pretty day for him.
- 8:10Yeah. Yeah, yeah, cuz I took packages
- 8:13for the 47 K route and they're actually starting to finally let
- 8:16him take second trips now. He's been fighting that one.
- 8:20She's like oh we can drop him off at the RMPO.
- 8:23He's like that's not a true second trip.
- 8:24I have to come back, complete my end of shift duties and then
- 8:27take a second trip out from the main office where my case is at.
- 8:30So other than that then I just had my ox route and of course I
- 8:33ran a double yesterday and then had to drive almost 4 hours down
- 8:40my parents house, drop off the cooler I borrowed and pick up
- 8:44some stuff that was in the freezer and my boyfriend left
- 8:46behind. Then I had to pick him up at the
- 8:48airport. I got there about, yeah, just
- 8:51shy of midnight. Drove the 3 1/2 hours home.
- 8:54Got home at 3:30 this morning, and then I had to be two hours
- 8:58away today at noon for local officer training.
- 9:03Then I got home about 6:30 this evening.
- 9:05So it's been interesting. That might be a little punchy.
- 9:08I apologize. Not really, but yeah.
- 9:11Officer training on Sundays. Yeah, new local officer
- 9:16training. We had that on Sunday but it was
- 9:20at at the convention. Yeah, our, our, our state
- 9:24refuses to do them at conventions anymore.
- 9:27They may do them like at a booster, but they won't do them
- 9:29at convention. It's funny, last year was the
- 9:31first time they did it and the first time they've had officer
- 9:35training, you know, local officer training, I should say,
- 9:37in a long time. Long before for.
- 9:40Me it was really, it was just kind of review because I have
- 9:44been a local officer in my previous county unit before I
- 9:48transferred before. So it was just kind of review
- 9:51and catch up if there was anything new I needed to know or
- 9:53not. But yeah, you know, and she
- 9:57brought pizza and I'm like, oh, cool breakfast just because, you
- 10:03know, I I've been 700 miles and 24 hours.
- 10:08Yeah. Yeah, it's been one of those
- 10:11weekends for me. Yeah, James, it's funny.
- 10:14You were saying to the supervisor was saying he wanted
- 10:17to hold flats until Monday. In my at my station.
- 10:21We've always been told Saturday's clean up day,
- 10:24everything, you know, obviously this is closed, you know, stays
- 10:29in the, you know, in the case of the tubs, wherever you stage it,
- 10:33but they got to work and everything's got to be sorted on
- 10:36Saturday, you know? On Saturdays, whatever was
- 10:38residual during the week, so you go into Monday.
- 10:41Yeah, go into Monday with empty cases.
- 10:44Yeah, that was like, hey, we've got no presorted bundles today.
- 10:47This was Saturday and I was like, what?
- 10:49Really? Yeah.
- 10:50No, once they got to the bottom of the APC, underneath all the
- 10:53packages, that's where they found the presorted bundles.
- 10:56I'm like, yeah, that's what happens.
- 11:00Yeah, me too. But you know, in this new this
- 11:05new machine, non machinable sorting doesn't help things
- 11:08either. No, no it does not.
- 11:10They end up in your the bottom of your Gurney.
- 11:15No. The clerk pulled them off and
- 11:18put them in. The tubs were on the rack sorted
- 11:21them out. They did not go in the parcel
- 11:24hampers. Yeah, When they started doing
- 11:26that again in my station, they started putting them in the.
- 11:32Toss them in the the bundles into the gurneys and I'm like
- 11:34wait a minute I'm you know because even and we're mostly
- 11:38city in my office in my station so now they case all their mail
- 11:45you know all the residual and all that stuff and then load up
- 11:50and grab their journeys and roll them out to the truck and load
- 11:53the truck on street time and now they have all these bundles of
- 11:59so that I had. Matters and put a stop to that
- 12:01real quick because now they either are being held over for
- 12:05the next day or they have to come back in and recase so you
- 12:09know to organize all the you know depending on how many
- 12:12bundles they have. Yeah.
- 12:13So we put a little call out to everybody to see what people
- 12:19wanted us to discuss tonight. Dance is 42.
- 12:24I thought it was 20, I thought it was 27.
- 12:26Nope 42. Unless you probably about the
- 12:30number here. Unless you're talking about the
- 12:32number of ice cube put in your glass for assorted, then it's
- 12:35three. Halfway between 4:00 and 2:00
- 12:39choose. Not enough to make it cold, but
- 12:40four makes it two watered down. At least that's what my wife
- 12:44though. So are this kind of touches on
- 12:46what you guys talked about last week a little bit with the Heat?
- 12:50I did go ahead and listen one day this week, Why?
- 12:53I was out on the route. I tried to listen in.
- 12:55Why Sunday? But you know, when I've got
- 12:58heavy metal playing up on the stage, I can't really listen too
- 13:02much. So yeah, I tried.
- 13:04When you popped in. Yeah, yeah, I tried.
- 13:08I almost thought about trying to hop in, but you guys would never
- 13:10heard me. It would all been.
- 13:12The band So Music. Yeah, and we would have been in
- 13:15a copyright strike situation. Exactly.
- 13:18Exactly myself. Zagrevis went in and out, in and
- 13:22out with the whole time I was there anyways, so which was
- 13:24fine. Why the post office doesn't
- 13:27supply water during hot summer days.
- 13:32That's a tough one. That is a tough one because I
- 13:36have been seeing pictures of. Wasn't there an ocean ruling on
- 13:40that a few years back? The 90 degree rule.
- 13:43Is that what it is at 90 degrees or higher they have, they're
- 13:45supposed to supply? Right.
- 13:48Hydration. Now you'll forgive me because
- 13:50I'm kind of old school and if you know it's going to be a hot
- 13:54day, pack plenty of water. Pack Gatorade, Pedialyte.
- 14:00Take care of yourself. Don't depend on others to take
- 14:02care of you. I always.
- 14:05That's just me. I always look at the forecast
- 14:08for the next day. And if I have to throw 2-3
- 14:12bottles in the freezer of water, that way they're frozen so I
- 14:16have them the next day. And yes, I'm a woman and I get
- 14:21hot and I'll put one of those frozen bottles right between the
- 14:24sisters and that does help you cool you down.
- 14:28By the way, I've done it with ice packs.
- 14:29I'll do it with a bottle of water.
- 14:31I did that at the festival. I had an ice cold bottle of
- 14:34water right between them. Hey, it works.
- 14:38Cooling towels work. Monday, I have one of my ice
- 14:41packs on my back. Get the mic out of your mouth.
- 14:49Yeah, that one's. I mean, I've seen pictures
- 14:52lately all over the social media about hydration stations and
- 14:56celebrating my first office. My management was awesome.
- 15:00They always had a case of water in the fridge in the break room.
- 15:04And sometimes they had a half a case of water in the freezer
- 15:06portion and it was always a help yourself management where I'm at
- 15:11now. Yeah, good luck.
- 15:13Good things for me. Order pallets of water at my
- 15:17station. And an ice machine.
- 15:21No, we don't have an ice machine.
- 15:22We do have a one of them cleaners, you know, with a big 5
- 15:27gallon jug of water. So here's my opinion on this.
- 15:33And it's not going to be the opinion of anybody else, but I
- 15:39have not worked a single job that provided full refreshments
- 15:47and anything else for their employees, whether it was
- 15:53working inside, outside or any of that stuff.
- 15:56They expected you to provide all that stuff.
- 15:59And I definitely wasn't making as much money there as I am here
- 16:02at the Postal Service. On that note, they know they're
- 16:07providing equipment that can kill us with the heat.
- 16:12But if you look at the track record of management overall,
- 16:19I'm not talking about the good managers that a lot of us have.
- 16:22I'm talking about management, especially higher up management
- 16:27they are looking at. Numbers on a spreadsheet and
- 16:30they don't care what it means to your body.
- 16:35You are not a person to those number crunchers.
- 16:38And if they are spending money on buying bottled water to take
- 16:42care of carriers, that's an expense that the number
- 16:45crunchers are going to complain about.
- 16:48And the managers that don't want to listen to the number
- 16:50crunchers complain about how they're spending money on
- 16:52bottled water are not going to buy bottled water for the
- 16:55carriers on the flip side. You also know when you buy your
- 17:00own what it is. You know where it came from, you
- 17:04know who's handled it, you know what's been around it and
- 17:08everything. So you're a lot safer if you
- 17:10bring your own and take care of yourself.
- 17:13You are responsible for yourself and as they say here on this
- 17:18podcast, you are the responsible for getting yourself home at the
- 17:23end of the day to your family. We do have a water core with the
- 17:27five gallon jugs that they put on top that you can fill your
- 17:30own container with. They do buy pallets of water,
- 17:36like the cases of water or the bottled water, but they are
- 17:42saying that that's not supposed to.
- 17:44You're not supposed to be. You're supposed to be supplying
- 17:47your own. This is the offset.
- 17:51You know what they have in the office they used to be good
- 17:54about. Putting a case.
- 17:58One case in the freezer, one case in the fridge, but whoever
- 18:04was doing it stopped doing it because they were the only
- 18:06person doing it. Like someone would grab the last
- 18:09one, they wouldn't go grab another case of water and put it
- 18:12and replenish it. I will say that I.
- 18:15Will, I'm going to add to this, especially about the cold water.
- 18:19If you are extremely hot and overheated, do not chug.
- 18:24Cold, cold, ice, cold water, small sips because it will
- 18:30actually send your body into shock.
- 18:33It can make you sicker. And it can stop your heart.
- 18:37Yes. So yeah, that's just something
- 18:39to think about when it's hot out.
- 18:40I mean, I like putting that ice cold bottle water on the back of
- 18:44my neck. I, you know, I cool off the
- 18:47girls with it if I have to. Small sips, but yeah, do not
- 18:53chug ice. Cold water, that's that's never
- 18:57a good thing. The places you want to put cold
- 19:01items. Yeah, the places you want to put
- 19:05cold items. The back of the neck, your
- 19:09armpits between your legs in the crotch area.
- 19:14I know it seems weird, but there are two major blood vessels that
- 19:19run down in between your your thighs and you put that cold
- 19:24piece next to that. It cools the blood because that
- 19:26arteries right there to cool. And then you also can put a cool
- 19:32item either on your back or your chest because your core is the
- 19:38biggest heat producer of your body and that's the part you
- 19:42want to cool off. The most.
- 19:44And also the inside of your. Wrists as well.
- 19:49Yeah, the inside of your wrists are another place, but these are
- 19:52the biggest cooling areas. The funny thing is, on Monday I
- 19:58was hydrating. I did at some point take one of
- 20:02my ice packs and put it on my back.
- 20:04And just slowly as I shifted and rocked, it would work its way
- 20:07from the top down to the bottom of my back.
- 20:11So where it was sitting in the seat and then I would pick it up
- 20:14and put it back into the top again and it would slowly work
- 20:17down and then at one point had it did have it between my leg.
- 20:22I still got sick but we were in a toad red air quality.
- 20:29It was like 96 degrees out with a heat index over 100 I smoke.
- 20:37Yep, all that contributes to it. People have mixed feelings on
- 20:43running that fan in the LLV because all you're doing is
- 20:45bowing the hot air on you. But let me tell you, I'd rather
- 20:49have that fan on with it, moving the air.
- 20:53Then it's sitting stagnant in there.
- 20:54I also rolled down the other window part way, that way I can.
- 21:00Get it across second window. The window across me on the left
- 21:04side is open. I usually open that.
- 21:07Do not do not roll it down all the way folks, because you take
- 21:10a too sharp of a turn and your mail goes out the window.
- 21:15I I usually roll mine not quite halfway down.
- 21:22I roll mine so it's like just above whatever I have up front.
- 21:29Yep. So even if it's stiffs, it can't
- 21:33fly out the window. I learned that once, make a
- 21:38mistake once. Luckily I was in a neighborhood
- 21:41driving in my where my condoms are, where I have to drive
- 21:45around to deliver packages. So I was stopping, you know, I
- 21:51turned the corner, I was stopping at the 3rd house and it
- 21:55kind of shifted and rolled, you know, tumbled out.
- 21:59It was a heavier box, you know, a top heavy box.
- 22:01So when I was just found the only way I could run around the
- 22:04other side and grab it put it back in.
- 22:07This is a good one. I would like to hear about how
- 22:10you actually get management to stop people working off the
- 22:14clock. I have tried everything and it
- 22:16persists in my office daily, talking to management
- 22:20grievances, writing into national for years.
- 22:23Nothing works. I know it is the reason that rec
- 22:25standards are unattainable for some things.
- 22:29We will get cut even further in the future.
- 22:31How can we stop it? And.
- 22:34Bill, they already, they already said file, file, file, they've
- 22:37been filing file. Well, after you file, file,
- 22:43file, and then you file again, and then you get it hold of the
- 22:47National Labor Relations Board and you file a complaint with
- 22:51them because of the fact that they govern over the work rules.
- 22:57And the work rules say if you're not on the clock, you're not
- 23:00covered, If you're hurt all off the clock, no OWCP.
- 23:07And if management tries to cover their asses by falsifying your
- 23:11times, they're in trouble. So you know, I I go, this is me
- 23:17because I'm a very straightforward person.
- 23:20I go up to the person and explain to them why they
- 23:23shouldn't be working off the clock and they give me some lame
- 23:26excuse and I'll say. Well, that's fine.
- 23:28I said thank you. And they'll say why.
- 23:30And I said, because you just gave me $100 and I filed A
- 23:34grievance for the previous grievances I had filed and
- 23:36settled for $100 per carrier in the office for one individual
- 23:40working off the clock. Management does not like me at
- 23:45all. But you know, guess what?
- 23:47Guess what, folks? You're you're harming yourself
- 23:50because you're you're not getting paid for what you're
- 23:51doing. You're harming yourself because
- 23:53you're putting yourself in jeopardy.
- 23:55In regards being injured off the clock, you're hurting the route
- 23:59evaluation and if you're even if you're a sub, you're hurting the
- 24:02evaluation because you're not getting paid for what you should
- 24:06be doing on an hourly basis. Especially if you're under 40
- 24:09hours and you you know if you're getting three days work, guess
- 24:13what you know you're you're cutting your own throat.
- 24:17So, you know, don't do something, you're not getting
- 24:20paid. I refuse to do anything that we
- 24:23don't get paid for. We have fought for this rec
- 24:25system that was supposed to correct that and we're still not
- 24:29getting paid for everything we do.
- 24:31And now management is micromanaging to the point of
- 24:34harassment. It's it's not, it's not a matter
- 24:38of possible harassment. It is total harassment and
- 24:44going. To say this mathematically
- 24:46speaking. There are 30,000 plus post
- 24:51offices in the United States. If one carrier from each of
- 24:58those offices is working off the clock every day, that is 30,000
- 25:06plus routes that are being abused out of 85,000 routes.
- 25:15That we have in the rural craft, that's over 1/3 of the routes in
- 25:22the rural craft. If you do it that way and you
- 25:26wonder why management has used that against us because 1/3 of
- 25:32your carriers are under evaluation every single day, we
- 25:35can actually lower the value for these right here, here, here and
- 25:39here. And they still would be right at
- 25:41the evaluation that they're working now.
- 25:44That's the argument management is making at union contract
- 25:47negotiations. That is, the problem is that
- 25:51these carriers are hurting us not just on the fact that
- 25:55they're working under evaluation for work that they're actually
- 25:59working over evaluation for, but they're also hurting us in
- 26:04contract negotiations in that instance.
- 26:07And that's something that they really need to think about.
- 26:11And and and in retrospect if you look at Rex now we're we're at
- 26:1486 letters a minute. Now guess what, you know that's
- 26:19a contributing factor there because you're working off the
- 26:22clock. We went from you know 43 to 86,
- 26:26they doubled it because we're coming in underneath the
- 26:29valuations not not only because we're efficient okay and and
- 26:34most rule carriers are very efficient but because others are
- 26:38off the clock. That pisses me off.
- 26:43Yeah, I have one that likes to come in early, then to do his
- 26:48take his stuff out to the truck, his scouts tray and do his
- 26:53inspection. And I remind him every single
- 26:56day, do not do that. I said all it's going to take is
- 27:00for a clerk to put a package and you don't see that.
- 27:02You turn around and trip. You are not on the clock, you
- 27:05are not covered. Don't work off the clock,
- 27:07people, and fight it to no end. And any anybody can file a
- 27:13grievance on that. Anybody can file a grievance on
- 27:16that. And then you just have to fill
- 27:19out portions one through 4:00 and then give it to your
- 27:22designated union representative. And what you know, I've seen in
- 27:27our office is it creates a bit of animosity between the regular
- 27:31and the sub because more times than not, it's a situation
- 27:36where. The the sub knows he's going to
- 27:38have an open route and he's going to have to do extra work
- 27:40or she's going to have to do extra work and all of a sudden
- 27:44the the routes evaluation is an hour and a half under on a on a
- 27:49normal day. And it it doesn't make sense the
- 27:52regulars trying to figure out how the Subs doing it faster
- 27:55than they are because they're doing it off the clock.
- 27:57Stop doing it folks. I have a carrier in my route
- 28:02that gets her route done 2 hours under evaluation.
- 28:06But she doesn't work off the clock.
- 28:09That's how it's supposed to be. We have one that we still I
- 28:13we're still trying to figure out how she gets A45K done in five
- 28:17and a half, six hours daily. We we have no clue.
- 28:23It doesn't matter how heavy it is.
- 28:25She's rarely ever more than six hours.
- 28:30Ever. How?
- 28:32I don't know. I I run this route often.
- 28:35I don't know. But I do know that.
- 28:38I do know that that truck does go into the shop quite often.
- 28:44The brakes are squeaking right now.
- 28:45I noticed running that route yesterday.
- 28:48Yeah, I I don't know. At that point, we just toss our
- 28:52hands in the air and it is that. Yeah, we don't know.
- 28:56What? What?
- 28:56I'm sure if you I'm sure if you checked that city metric it
- 28:59would tell you exactly what's going on.
- 29:01Oh, I I I'm sure. I am quite sure.
- 29:05Yeah. No clue.
- 29:08I don't know. Yeah.
- 29:12All right. What's the next one, guys?
- 29:15Explain base rate and actual time on pay stub.
- 29:20How they pay actual hours under evaluation then pay hours.
- 29:27Under actual time, the total evaluation of weekly route I'm
- 29:36not am I only sure what being? I know what she's asking.
- 29:42I know what they're asking. Go ahead.
- 29:44I know exactly what they're asking.
- 29:46So your pay stub is broken down into several categories.
- 29:51Depending on whether you have a government vehicle or not adds
- 29:54more categories to it. But the base rate, which is the
- 30:01evaluation of the route You get the evaluated hours for the
- 30:05route. Actual time is the actual time
- 30:09you work from the time you clocked in to the time you
- 30:11clocked out on your 4240. It should not match what your
- 30:15clock rings are on the scanner. It should match your 4240.
- 30:19That is what the union has said. And that's how it should be is
- 30:22management should be editing the times to match your 40 to 40.
- 30:28But when you are a regular carrier, your only evaluation
- 30:32the actual time only counts towards your 2080 or 20 to 40
- 30:37times when you're on the overtime list.
- 30:41It also count towards that 56 hours a week under the FLSA.
- 30:48Yes, and the 56 hours a week under FSLA.
- 30:51FLSA, excuse me, When you're a rural RCA it is up to 40 hours.
- 31:0340 hours even is where it switches.
- 31:07So if you work actual hours of 39.9 hours you will get
- 31:13evaluation and that is why the evaluation time will be the time
- 31:18you're paid for. Even if you worked more hours
- 31:22than the evaluation, which is the one caveat of that, if you
- 31:27work 40 hours and above, you'll get 40 hours plus overtime for
- 31:33the actual hours you worked. That's the difference between
- 31:37those two different categories, and it's it's a little
- 31:42convoluted, but it's only broken down that way, so the bean
- 31:45counters have an easy way to explain it to themselves.
- 31:50And that's how I was going to answer my.
- 31:52I was saying I'm not exact because of how they worded it.
- 31:55I wasn't exactly sure, but I was going to say that, you know, put
- 31:58that I have a followup question And I looking at my current stub
- 32:04now, I think I have the answer, but I want to make sure the
- 32:09actual hours is just the five days.
- 32:16It does not. In the evaluation it does not
- 32:19count the K day work. That's if you're a K route, you
- 32:23you got to remember, not everybody is a K route.
- 32:26Was it saying your release day? That does not include the hours
- 32:30worked on a relief day. No, that goes to your towards
- 32:32your 20 to 40. That should be on a separate
- 32:36line. Right.
- 32:38Well, it has overtime hours, which is just the evaluate, the
- 32:42daily evaluation. Correct.
- 32:46Sure. I've got a couple things here
- 32:49kind of going to move on just a tad bit.
- 32:52Kind of couple questions. One that came in as a private
- 32:55message to the page kind of goes hand in hand with another
- 32:59question that was asked whether it was on the page or in the
- 33:04group. I do believe it was in the
- 33:06group. Let me go back to that.
- 33:09Or it could have been on the page as well.
- 33:13This has to do with leave. There's a couple questions on
- 33:17leave. One of When can annual leave be
- 33:21denied? If there is and then there's
- 33:23also leave replacement available plan and cannot be used
- 33:26including LWOP for Saturday for H&J's.
- 33:31All right, and this one I just came in through PM on the page
- 33:36and it goes hand in hand with these can a regular carry
- 33:40request LWOP in a formula office for a Saturday if there is a sub
- 33:44off? Sure, leave.
- 33:48How can it? How can and cannot be used,
- 33:50including LWOP for Saturday on H&J routes followed up with the
- 33:57other one. Rank manually denied?
- 34:00Yes. So there's our three leave
- 34:01questions. Go ahead guys.
- 34:03OK. Annual annual leave, depending
- 34:07on if you're a regular or a sub. Can be denied under the verbiage
- 34:14is a little bit different. I'm gonna assume, and all three
- 34:18of these questions that they're all regulars.
- 34:21So let's stick with the regulars first and then we'll touch on
- 34:24leave for some. Yeah, right.
- 34:27Let's say, hold on. I got the tentative agreement in
- 34:31front of me for the current contract.
- 34:33I'm just trying to find. Article 10 is leave.
- 34:38Ours regular rural carriers, they'll be granted annual leave
- 34:41in the minimum units one day. Rural carriers should be granted
- 34:45annual leave in accordance with their personal wishes, provided
- 34:49a leave replacement is available.
- 34:52My contention on that is at the time of the request.
- 34:59And also refer back to the order of consideration for that as
- 35:02well. Yes, so.
- 35:04Which is which is a conundrum because the order of
- 35:06consideration allows management to schedule an open route.
- 35:11So it says to me that open emergency, but we all know how
- 35:14their emergencies are. Yeah, they might have to take it
- 35:18out. And you also have to you also
- 35:22have to remember if you have a brand new sub in the office who
- 35:27just joined. They cannot be assigned to any
- 35:30other route than their primary route for the first two pay
- 35:35periods of the assignment. Let me read the very next
- 35:40paragraph. It says if a leave replacement
- 35:43is committed to serve another route, I'm sorry, another
- 35:47regular rule route. And then this is the new
- 35:51language, a vacant route or? A route where the regular rule
- 35:56carrier is on extended leave, has approved leave, or is in the
- 36:02first two pay periods of assignment in the office.
- 36:07Such leave replacement is not available.
- 36:10A regular rule carrier should not be unreasonably denied
- 36:13annual leave because of a leave replacement assignment to an
- 36:20auxiliary route. Then you have to follow in on
- 36:23the 12 hour rule for scheduling when combined with an OX route.
- 36:31Yeah, they can't. Can't schedule you for more than
- 36:3312 hours or work you more than 12 hours as a sum.
- 36:39It's in the contract. Oh, they can work you.
- 36:42You just have to grieve it. They get paid that over time
- 36:46because regulars get paid over time if they go over 12 hours in
- 36:48a day. Rca's do not.
- 36:52And you have to grieve it in order to get that paid, Yeah.
- 36:55And in that instance, please contact your assigned union
- 36:59representative if this is going on in your office.
- 37:02Well, now, do they not get after 12 hours in a day if it's one
- 37:11thing? So if you sign, if you come in
- 37:14the morning, you sign in on Route 12 and all you did was
- 37:19Route 12? No.
- 37:20I dictation 12 1/2 hours. No okay.
- 37:25I wasn't sure I knew because the only time I went over 12 is us.
- 37:30You know, with green card time. No.
- 37:34So it wasn't one set thing on 12 hours.
- 37:38It's 12 hours, period. That's that's including 1/2
- 37:43hour. That includes 1/2 hour lunch in
- 37:46that 12 hours. Yes, yes.
- 37:49Lunch or break times included in that 12 hour period and potty
- 37:53time too. Don't forget potty time, yeah?
- 37:55And potty time is on the clock. Yes, ma'am.
- 37:59Both, both management. On the clock.
- 38:03What most manage both management and the unions quick reference
- 38:09guide for the rec system. Both say you do not clock out to
- 38:14lunch for restroom breaks. So if you have one of those that
- 38:19you're having to sit there for a little while, it's a bathroom
- 38:23break. Enjoy yourself.
- 38:27You know, bathroom bathroom breaks are not lunch.
- 38:32If they're going to try and Ding you on a stationary event
- 38:37because you're trying to pinch one off, you're going to the
- 38:40bathroom. Yeah, don't Don't give yourself
- 38:43a hernia just to stay off of the stationary events.
- 38:47Because we all have those emergencies from time to time.
- 38:50It happens. Yeah, and sometimes you can't
- 38:53help but you get out there on your route and you all of a
- 38:56sudden about halfway through, you're like, oh man, I drank way
- 38:58too much water today to stay hydrated.
- 39:00I need a bathroom. Or you never know what dinner
- 39:03you ate the night before is doing to you that day.
- 39:07Oh yes, I do. Yes, I do.
- 39:12Lasura. Cheese Saturday, so I'm home on
- 39:15Sunday. But okay back to the leave we
- 39:20kind of sidetracked there entertainment factor here back
- 39:26to leave, how can and that be used including ELWAP for
- 39:31Saturday and H&J routes I haven't seen I think.
- 39:39So I do know that on H&J routes. They get a.
- 39:43Free scheduled Saturday time off.
- 39:46If you schedule time off and you're you're normally scheduled
- 39:50to work that day, you should get that day free of charge.
- 39:57No annual day charged whatsoever on that Saturday because it
- 40:02would be unfair to carriers who have H&J routes.
- 40:06To make them use an annual leave on a Saturday when the K route
- 40:10people don't have to do that, you'd be planning an extra
- 40:15annual day compared to the K route people, yes.
- 40:17We'll see. That's the free Saturday, which
- 40:19is different than what I think they're asking.
- 40:24The free Saturday is if you put in a request for Saturday
- 40:28through Saturday, which is 7 days of annual leave, requesting
- 40:337 days of annual leave. The system will automatically
- 40:40only charge you for five on a J route 6 for an H route.
- 40:49Oh, I'm sorry, it only it only charge you for the five.
- 40:53The five. For both, right?
- 40:56Yeah, that that's why I I step back there for a moment on that
- 41:01they're saying because. LWOP is at management's
- 41:05discretion with the exception of Saturdays.
- 41:08I'm not sure exactly where it is for in the case of J&H routes.
- 41:17So if they want to take a Saturday off, they potentially
- 41:23can request LWOP and not get paid for the day.
- 41:26And that goes and like I said and that private message there.
- 41:31Had to do with in a formula office if there's a sub
- 41:35available and they want to take LWOP for that Saturday because
- 41:39we know how formula offices are, you may have a sub that's off on
- 41:42a Saturday. I don't know what that's like
- 41:45without requesting it. Happens all the time.
- 41:48Either you should. You should be able to put in but
- 41:52leave without pay is management discretion.
- 41:54They could make you use an annual day for that.
- 41:58And it kind of be out for the the free days.
- 42:01If you're putting in leave and you're a A, AKAJ, an H,
- 42:05whatever, make sure that you put down all the days inclusive of
- 42:10your work schedule. Like the H routes, don't don't
- 42:14go Friday to Friday or or or Saturday Saturday.
- 42:18Take it to the next day and then you still put down 40 hours so
- 42:22you get your full pay. But there have been instances
- 42:25where people have gone. Has an H route and put in for a
- 42:29Saturday to Friday and then you called in the next day not
- 42:33knowing that they were entitled to that free day.
- 42:36Yeah, I just put in for our National Convention, got it
- 42:39immediately approved and I put in for that Monday through
- 42:46Sunday night because I wasn't going to take any chances of
- 42:50them calling me in on Saturday to cover when they're
- 42:54shorthanded. And I'm sorry, I'm going to need
- 42:56a day off after the National Convention, for sure.
- 43:01Well, that's because you'll be celebrating with me, yeah?
- 43:04I I still have to put in for Saturday.
- 43:07I think I'll do that tomorrow when I get there.
- 43:12Yeah. I haven't put in for Saturday
- 43:14yet. I need to do that.
- 43:15I wasn't thinking about that. What I put in until Tuesday
- 43:21morning. Unless there's another festival
- 43:25near my parents house, I might want to go to Saturday night as
- 43:28well, so we'll see what happens. Was that all the leave
- 43:33questions? I think so.
- 43:35Can I regular care request LWOP at a formula office?
- 43:37You can request it, you know it. LWOP again is management's
- 43:41discretion. The exception of Saturdays.
- 43:44I you know, if there's a sub that's off and your LWOP gets
- 43:48denied on a Saturday, I would contact your signed union Rep.
- 43:53No To complete this section, can you talk about Rca's taken leave
- 43:58now? Rca's taken leave.
- 44:03We can, but I've stepped away from.
- 44:07Ours if if there is another if there is a leave replacement
- 44:11available. Again it comes down to if there
- 44:13is another leave replacement available to cover if it's like
- 44:18the day if it's. The regulars kday that you're
- 44:21normally covering and you didn't work it out with your or you
- 44:24weren't able to work it out with your regular to do for them to
- 44:27work. Maybe do a deck of R to flop it
- 44:29around or you're taking extended.
- 44:32Then if there's another leave replacement available and again
- 44:37it comes down into the first come first serve, it's.
- 44:42Right, I have an example. I have an example of that in my
- 44:45office. Well, I have situation.
- 44:48We had a situation come up and we're going to be shorthanded
- 44:53when a RCA asked for two days off in advance.
- 44:59That occurred before the situation happened.
- 45:02It was already approved. Now the only thing my supervisor
- 45:07or postmaster can do now is ask them if they wouldn't mind
- 45:11coming into work. They can't force them off their
- 45:14leave because they've got a signed.
- 45:17Leave slip saying they're approved to have that time off.
- 45:19Exactly. But it's an emergency.
- 45:24That's not an emergency. It's not an emergency.
- 45:27They can call in somebody from other offices.
- 45:29They can. They could find help elsewhere
- 45:31they can. They can settle up and deliver
- 45:34it themselves. I had a regular carrier carried
- 45:39my aux route for me Saturday because we had our other two.
- 45:43Well, the one RCA was off. Don't get me started on that
- 45:48one, but a completely different scenario.
- 45:51But my leave had been approved for quite a bit of time.
- 45:55I did put it outside the 60 days because I had put a I paid half
- 46:01the amount for last weekend. Let's put it that way.
- 46:04And MY1H route because we have 4 K's and an H in my office now.
- 46:11And so obviously anybody working their K days was not going to be
- 46:14able to work. And I know the two that have the
- 46:16Monday K days weren't going to do it.
- 46:18So they asked the H route carrier if she wanted to take
- 46:21the OX route and she was more than happy to take it.
- 46:23So I could have that Saturday off.
- 46:24Why I was gone this weekend. So yeah, it's, you know, if you
- 46:29got people in your office willing to help you out, that's
- 46:32awesome. But if it's approved,
- 46:34preapproved. And something happens down the
- 46:36pipeline before that time off comes.
- 46:39They can't force you to give it up.
- 46:40That doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you're a
- 46:42regular and RCA. You enjoy that time off with a
- 46:44signed leave slip. Yeah, don't let management go
- 46:47you into taking your time off and going back to work.
- 46:51If you don't want to work and you have that signed leave slip,
- 46:55you don't have to work. It benefits the office if you do
- 46:59and I can't argue that it doesn't benefit the office.
- 47:03But your time is your time. You came here to work at the
- 47:09post office for specific wages, specific work conditions, and
- 47:15specific benefits, and one of those benefits is time off from
- 47:19the job. Yep.
- 47:23Though sometimes it doesn't feel like we have time off by the way
- 47:26I did. I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend
- 47:28away one of. Very rarely do I take personal
- 47:33time. I mean any of the I, you know
- 47:35they'll complain I'm an RCA and you get all this time off.
- 47:37I got a couple of them that complain but the majority of my
- 47:42time off that I put a request in for is for conferences and
- 47:48conventions and union related business.
- 47:52So you know, I it's like I tell him, you know I'm fighting the
- 47:55good fight for you guys. All right.
- 47:57So I think is that pretty much cover everything for the Leaf
- 48:00questions. Well, did you want me to read
- 48:03the the language for lever plate for Rca's?
- 48:08Sure. Go ahead.
- 48:10You'll see. You can see what the difference
- 48:11is. Yep.
- 48:12Go right. Ahead.
- 48:13OK, I'm just going to read the the one sentence, one or two
- 48:18sentences. It says Rule Carrier associates
- 48:20shall be granted annual leave in hourly increments.
- 48:24Rule Carrier associates shall. Be granted annual leave in
- 48:29accordance with their personal wishes, provided there is
- 48:32sufficient leave replacement coverage in the office, where
- 48:39for regular carriers it said it shall be, I'm sorry, at the time
- 48:48when a leave replacement is available is for regular
- 48:51carriers and it's just a shell for.
- 48:57Coverage. You know, if there's sufficient
- 48:59coverage, I should say. Yeah.
- 49:04So they can't leave a route open for that.
- 49:07Exactly. For you to take leave.
- 49:10I'm gonna answer this next one real quick.
- 49:15Which scan pays more? Front door or left with
- 49:17customer? They pay the same front door
- 49:21left with customer at garage? Other location.
- 49:25Pays the same. You have the three different
- 49:27categories in the mailbox, parcel, locker, and to the door,
- 49:32and everything outside of that pays pretty much to the door.
- 49:38It is all to the door whether you do that or mailroom or any
- 49:41of that stuff. Yep, yes.
- 49:44So even if they make me, if they meet you at the mailbox and you
- 49:48hit deliver it to customer, you're going to get paid that
- 49:51door credit because you didn't deliver, yes.
- 49:56Carrier discretion? Carrier discretion?
- 49:59Yes. And somebody did ask how Rex
- 50:02really works. If you really wanted us to
- 50:05explain how Rex really works, it would take us three or four
- 50:08episodes to do so. On top of that, we don't even
- 50:12have all the information. Our union doesn't have all the
- 50:15information on how it works. Nobody has all the.
- 50:18Information. Is there a OK, this kind of goes
- 50:21hand in hand. That would be 3 or 4 episodes to
- 50:23cover what we do know. And that's and that's like 3
- 50:28hour episodes. Not just three or four episodes.
- 50:31That would be like 3 hour episodes.
- 50:34And I think I saw something about is there a footage
- 50:39explaining the drive makers? Well let me finish this one cuz
- 50:42this kind of goes hand in hand with this last one.
- 50:43The packages. Is there a footage minimum for a
- 50:46second trip? Say I'm only walking 10 feet
- 50:48back to my vehicles. It's still considered a second
- 50:50trip at what distance to be anytime you go back to your
- 50:54vehicle for another package or whatever else to go back to that
- 50:59door. Doesn't matter the distance.
- 51:02Or if you go to the door, drop off the first package, you go
- 51:07back to the truck to get the second one, if it's that big, or
- 51:11whatever. Anytime you have to make a
- 51:14second trip to get the rest of the stuff that gets delivered.
- 51:17Even if they meet you halfway out there.
- 51:19Oh, hey, I'll meet you out there so you don't have to carry the
- 51:22rest of it there. Yeah, that's a that's an
- 51:24additional trip to door. Anytime that you have to go back
- 51:28to the truck to get more and retrieve it and go back, that is
- 51:31an additional trip. Yep, same with CBU's authorized
- 51:38dismounts. Carry what you can safely carry
- 51:43to the mailbox, Do your thing, go back to the truck, grab your
- 51:47next amount you can handle safely, take it to the CBU, sort
- 51:52it however many trips it takes, and that is an authorized
- 51:55dismount. Are we allowed to use trip to
- 51:59door or not? Been told by our supervisor and
- 52:02postmaster that multiple trips for large pack parcels that have
- 52:05scans do not use Trip to door. Once scanned at door, it gives
- 52:10us credit for each parcel. Likewise with certified don't
- 52:13use Door Miscellaneous since scanning them gives us door
- 52:15credit. You don't need to use Door
- 52:17Miscellaneous for certifieds, but anytime you're making more
- 52:21than one trip. You use the trip to the door,
- 52:24and that includes parcel pickups as well.
- 52:27If you have a parcel pickup request and you're making three
- 52:31trips to get all those parcels from where you're picking them
- 52:33up to the truck, that's additional trips to the door.
- 52:36It is explained in the Rex Activity Guide.
- 52:40If you are having issues and your supervisors and your PM's
- 52:44are telling you you don't scan these extra scans, you need to
- 52:48contact your district Rep. ASAP and let them know that is
- 52:53going on. They are keeping track of that.
- 52:57Yep, and I'm sorry I blanked out there for a second.
- 53:02Yes, you're getting credit if you have three packages to the
- 53:06door. Yes, you're getting credit for
- 53:08all three packages, but you're only getting credit for one
- 53:11trip, which is why you're going in to put the trip to door to
- 53:15get that dismount distance from your park point to the door.
- 53:20And back. Yes, I.
- 53:24Honestly think that should be included in the trip to door
- 53:29segment or all the ones that relate to delivering somewhere.
- 53:33Specifically it should be included that how many trips did
- 53:36it take you to deliver these parcels?
- 53:39But they won't do that because that costs them money.
- 53:41Yeah, just like all the other extra verifications to make sure
- 53:44we're not doing extra scans like clock in and things like that.
- 53:49Cost money to change the program like.
- 53:51That Yep, I would love that. That clock in would Gray out
- 53:57after you do it because like yesterday I went to scan my VMF
- 54:06scan and didn't realize it wasn't for some reason under the
- 54:10rec scans and I hit clock in instead of scan barcode.
- 54:16I'm like oh wow. Nice.
- 54:19Yeah. And then I went, well, that's
- 54:21not right. So yeah.
- 54:23Clock out twice too. No, I did not.
- 54:28Here's one Can a 41K route be cut if regular carrier exceeds
- 54:35evaluation weekly? Usually 1 to 1 1/2 hours weekly.
- 54:39It's not due to route being overburdened.
- 54:41Pretty sure I know the answer for the contract, but just
- 54:44needing confirmation. No, it's not considered
- 54:46overburdened. 47 or 40 eights are interim considered
- 54:53overburdened, interim overburdened evaluations, 40
- 54:57ones or not. However, there is exceptions.
- 55:01To that they're going if they're an hour to an hour and a half
- 55:08overs, which means they're doing it and 42 to 43 hours a week.
- 55:13That puts them and 2080 issues, potential 2080 issues, which
- 55:18then they could potentially try and reevaluate the route.
- 55:23But you got to look at is the carrier 55 and over?
- 55:28That too. And then the other other aspect
- 55:30of that is does the carrier take leave on occasion, correct the
- 55:35carriers taken leave that actually benefits them on the
- 55:382080 issues so they don't have to worry about?
- 55:42Hitting 2080 like for me, me taking all this time off for
- 55:46Union activities benefits me in the 2080 category because I'm
- 55:51burning up annual leave and not putting down actual hours, and
- 55:55the actual hours are what the 2080 is based on.
- 55:59All right, this one, I'm going to tell you right now, we really
- 56:03don't have an answer for this one, but I'm going to read it.
- 56:07I'd like to hear more about CBU's and how they're counted
- 56:10for in Rex. I'm hearing different things as
- 56:14route coverage is not counting if not in D PS:.
- 56:17When most of my CBU's come in raw mail.
- 56:20This is a big deal for a lot of our routes and I'm not getting
- 56:23any help or answers on this topic.
- 56:26There is also a comment underneath this that kind of
- 56:29goes hand in hand that says this over 900 just added on new
- 56:33development. That I will not be compensated
- 56:36for until question mark, question mark. question mark
- 56:39will be over 1200 boxes. 46 K went down to a 40H.
- 56:46Number one, I feel sorry for every single person that has
- 56:51CBU's. There is not a single CBU route
- 56:55out there that I know of that has not been severely herded by
- 57:02Rex Herded. That's an interesting word.
- 57:05Hurt, severely hurt by Rex and there's been a lot of back and
- 57:11forth talking about that, including if the first address
- 57:14is vacant, the entire CBU is considered vacant.
- 57:18And of course the D PS:. Credit with Informed Visibility,
- 57:23which is different from Informed Delivery.
- 57:25Informed Visibility is the D, PS:.
- 57:28System scanning, the scanning the the letters as they go
- 57:33through the machine. And unfortunately, there are not
- 57:38any answers that are set in stone about CBU's anywhere in
- 57:44any of the materials that we have access to.
- 57:48And I guarantee you it's going to be the same answers up at the
- 57:51national level because they have the same information we do.
- 57:55They may know more through management than we do because
- 57:58they're constantly talking with management, but unfortunately.
- 58:04Nobody has those answers because nobody has has the transparent
- 58:10information to tell us and there's no transparency in recs
- 58:16right now. Correct drive matrix.
- 58:20Who wants to explain the drive matrix?
- 58:29Anybody Sure. You were give me just a second
- 58:33to pull up the 99 page guide. I know it's based off the simple
- 58:41terms. Sit.
- 58:43Sit down, Josh. Let me put it in very simple
- 58:46terms. Under the old system, miles were
- 58:50a good thing. Now miles are your enemy because
- 58:54of the fact that the speed matrix is based on.
- 58:58How fast you're traveling on the roads and they have that
- 59:01information inputted. So if like in my case, my speed
- 59:06matrix is 18 miles an hour where somebody with a 5560 mile route
- 59:13theirs is up at 43 miles an hour or getting paid less.
- 59:18Yes, and This is why my 93 mile POV route with 481 boxes.
- 59:27One of the reasons why it lost three hours because when you
- 59:31have 93 miles and only 481 boxes, that distance between the
- 59:36boxes is a lot greater, therefore you're not getting
- 59:41paid as much. Where is our 42 J that went up
- 59:44to a 41K? So if you were an L route in the
- 59:48past, which we no longer have, and you average that at.
- 59:56Twelve boxes per mile. You made out pretty good with
- 1:00:00this drive speed matrix if you were a non L route.
- 1:00:05You did not. You got screwed.
- 1:00:06Yes, you did. Yes, screwed.
- 1:00:08Yes. So you did the way it's broken
- 1:00:12down for the speed matrix, just under a mile.
- 1:00:17A mile is 5280 feet. At 5190 feet or greater, you
- 1:00:25must. Average a speed of 39.45 mph.
- 1:00:33So anything about a mile or more a mile or more, you've got to be
- 1:00:38doing almost 40 miles an hour the entire distance in order to
- 1:00:45equal the speed matrix. Without any traffic control
- 1:00:50points. Without any Tcps without any
- 1:00:54hindrance of. Old ladies on their Sunday drive
- 1:00:57on a Tuesday. None of that stuff.
- 1:01:01Or a gravel train that just pulled out in front of you as
- 1:01:05you turn the corner from your TCP.
- 1:01:08You know 40 miles an hour. And you got to do that.
- 1:01:12Especially in an LLV. You got to get that thing up to
- 1:01:1640 miles an hour as quickly as possible in order to match your
- 1:01:19speed matrix. But.
- 1:01:23If it's zero to 15 feet, your creep speed.
- 1:01:29When you put mailboxes really close together, your creep speed
- 1:01:33is 4.57 mph. So in between that in distances
- 1:01:40is 123, about 50 different levels of the speed matrix from
- 1:01:46that 4.57 mph all the way up to the 40 mph.
- 1:01:52And it's divided into, well, literally it goes from 15 feet,
- 1:01:575 feet, 10 feet, 20 feet, so on up five 10/15/20, so on up the
- 1:02:03list as you increase the distances until you get to the
- 1:02:095190 feet. And when you have a route like
- 1:02:12my primary where you have 10 miles from the office to the
- 1:02:15first box, dead head. And then you have 13 miles from
- 1:02:20the last box back to the office, Deadhead.
- 1:02:23That hurts. And if your speed limits are 25
- 1:02:27miles an hour all the way to your route, you're never going
- 1:02:30to get match the speed matrix at all on that distance unless you
- 1:02:36want to get a speeding ticket. And I believe some states if
- 1:02:39you're 20 miles or 15 miles an hour over the speed limit, it
- 1:02:44actually becomes an arrestible offense considered reckless
- 1:02:46driving. I had another one that came over
- 1:02:49messages on the page. You guys are going to love this
- 1:02:53one. I'm going to read it and then
- 1:02:57I'm going to let you guys handle it because I need to take a
- 1:02:59quick break away from the mic. Our packages counted correctly
- 1:03:05when someone else delivers them on static.
- 1:03:09I think that's what they call it when they scan them in order for
- 1:03:13the persons who take them. I will be right back folks.
- 1:03:18Alright. Static or dynamic delivery, when
- 1:03:23they scan them, that's scanning a couple of routes at a time as
- 1:03:30one delivery route. The last I heard I was that that
- 1:03:38does not get credited to your route I think unless it was
- 1:03:45scanned. Individually to the route first
- 1:03:50and they go back and make a static or dynamic route after
- 1:03:53the fact. I know at Christmas time
- 1:03:58National was working on supposedly working on getting
- 1:04:06those packages credited back to the routes.
- 1:04:11Don't. Don't hold your breath on that.
- 1:04:13No, don't hold your breath on management allowing that credit
- 1:04:17through and think of static and dynamic as Amazon Sunday style
- 1:04:22delivery for carriers. Exactly.
- 1:04:24It allows it allows them to actually use the scanner as a
- 1:04:28GPS to deliver the packages and it doesn't credit it to the
- 1:04:35route. It credits to the static or
- 1:04:37dynamic route that they create for it and.
- 1:04:42Just like Sunday, you don't get credit for the Amazon parcels
- 1:04:45that get delivered on Sundays. You're not going to get credit
- 1:04:49for them on static either because they're not scanned to
- 1:04:53your route. But like was mentioned earlier,
- 1:04:57if they scan it to the route first and then you separate it
- 1:05:01and you let them take it and they create a static route with
- 1:05:04that, it does give the credit to the route, you just don't get
- 1:05:08the delivery credit for it. And you wouldn't get the
- 1:05:10delivery credit for it if a sub delivered it for you under just
- 1:05:14standard parcel assistance. You would still get the credit
- 1:05:18to the route for the parcels and the and the numbers that add up
- 1:05:21to that. You just don't get the the added
- 1:05:24benefit of the delivery scan adding to your route.
- 1:05:28It's the same way we have the WS routes, you know on on our
- 1:05:31Amazon Sunday and the carriers go out and deliver it.
- 1:05:36Everything gets credited to the the route per se, but not to
- 1:05:41you. It gets credited to the Amazon
- 1:05:43route on Sunday. Correct.
- 1:05:45You know, and it it it is beneficial to everybody if you
- 1:05:52make sure that they're doing it the right way in your office.
- 1:05:56And if they're not doing it the right way, you need to
- 1:06:00definitely contact your designated union Rep and let
- 1:06:03them know that they're cheating you.
- 1:06:06Out of money because that's your money, That's your evaluation
- 1:06:10that they're cheating you out of.
- 1:06:12I'd still say the Rca's ought to be getting time and a half on
- 1:06:15Sunday. I can't argue with you there.
- 1:06:18They deserve it because we should be.
- 1:06:20We shouldn't be delivering on Sunday anyways.
- 1:06:22We've been a Monday through Saturday organization since we
- 1:06:25basically were formed. And to then throw around Sunday
- 1:06:31just to appease Amazon and then throwing in.
- 1:06:35UPS I think it was they threw in on there.
- 1:06:37Yeah, and everybody else. I mean, you know, yeah, if it.
- 1:06:42Blows in the. Westchester, right?
- 1:06:45They won't. Throw FedEx on because FedEx cut
- 1:06:47the contract with the Postal Service, but they'll throw in
- 1:06:51USPS parcels too. Some some officers are doing
- 1:06:55that now and that's that's not right either because that is
- 1:06:59evaluation parcels right there. Not, they say, Sunday delivery
- 1:07:05on them. We shouldn't be delivering
- 1:07:08postal products on Sunday. Yeah, well, the.
- 1:07:11Argument here. There is exceptions to that as
- 1:07:14express mail but. Right.
- 1:07:16There is Sunday, but we were. Express delivery but.
- 1:07:20If we weren't working Amazon Sunday, we wouldn't be
- 1:07:22delivering on on Sunday or holidays if we didn't have
- 1:07:27Amazon. So that's a moot point as it is.
- 1:07:30Unless there is an express. I was paid to have Sunday or
- 1:07:34holiday delivery. How did they do that before
- 1:07:38Amazon Sunday? We had before Amazon Sunday came
- 1:07:42into my old office. We did have Rca's that were,
- 1:07:47like I say, on call, but made themselves available in the
- 1:07:51event that there was an Express that needed to be delivered on a
- 1:07:54holiday or a Sunday and I have delivered Expresses on Sundays
- 1:07:59and holidays. I was on call for Christmas, for
- 1:08:02Expresses, Not on call I should say, but I was available.
- 1:08:06We had a click two come in one year and the other RCA who I had
- 1:08:10kids and the other RCA I'll go ahead and take them.
- 1:08:13So yes, there was Sunday and holiday expresses, but that was
- 1:08:20the. Only time and 1/2 No.
- 1:08:22That should be a time and a half, and the RCA should get a
- 1:08:24minimum of two hours for sitting around seeing if there's an
- 1:08:27express. But no, that was just if they
- 1:08:30called you if there was one, but.
- 1:08:33That's that's my opinion is an RCA should be quote.
- 1:08:36UN quote for that. But my old office was also a hub
- 1:08:39office, so those expresses weren't necessarily local.
- 1:08:44I have driven an hour and a half, two hours to deliver
- 1:08:49Express. I've delivered cremated remains
- 1:08:51on a Sunday. But I still say it should be
- 1:08:54time and a half and minimum of two hours and the RCA is quote
- 1:08:57UN quote on call volunteer. I agree.
- 1:09:01Well. But yeah, but.
- 1:09:04We can always you guys have somebody put that up as a.
- 1:09:07Resolution for next period. Exactly.
- 1:09:10Well, when I was in RCA at my first station, they would first
- 1:09:15take volunteers and then schedule if we didn't get enough
- 1:09:18people to volunteer to come in on holidays.
- 1:09:22To run express until the plant decided they were going to have
- 1:09:29the the PS, e's or whatever they're called at the time from
- 1:09:35the express room from them direct.
- 1:09:37Comment came in on that saying postmasters around here did our
- 1:09:40Sunday holiday express that and that and that and well, hey, I'm
- 1:09:46good for them. Express Mail is.
- 1:09:50The one and only non craft specific form of mail.
- 1:09:55Anybody can deliver express anywhere.
- 1:09:59You janitor can take an express and deliver it.
- 1:10:03A rule can deliver on a city. Express is The only exception.
- 1:10:07You If you have an express piece of mail that is addressed to a
- 1:10:11house that does not have a mailbox it still gets delivered
- 1:10:14to that address. That is the only.
- 1:10:18Exception. With no mail receptacle.
- 1:10:23Which is funny. I have one one house that has no
- 1:10:28mail receptacle and she mails out certified with return
- 1:10:34receipts and the return receipt address to deliver to is her
- 1:10:38home address. So she's paying for the return
- 1:10:43receipt service. So it isn't getting you know,
- 1:10:46does has at least in the last eight years that I'm on, I've
- 1:10:49had the route has never gotten the card back because she
- 1:10:53doesn't have a metal scepticle. All right so it goes to dead
- 1:10:56Letter and going all to the dead Letter club.
- 1:11:00Going back to the leave thing, leave replacements within a 50
- 1:11:05mile, 50 miles of your office. I know I'm trying to think of
- 1:11:12where I've seen The 50 Mile in writing, but again, it's one of
- 1:11:17those things that I don't know. But yeah, they need to check
- 1:11:21out. They need to check with other
- 1:11:23offices prior to denying leave if they can get the coverage.
- 1:11:28And if they don't do that, if they say they did it, have them
- 1:11:34proved. Say what officers did you call?
- 1:11:37Yep, and if you put an e-mail out, I want a copy of that
- 1:11:39e-mail. Yep, Yep.
- 1:11:43Yeah, OK, it's in an mo. UI thought it was.
- 1:11:45I knew it was in writing somewhere.
- 1:11:47I just. Now let's get back to Sundays
- 1:11:50with the Amazon. You know what really pisses me
- 1:11:53off is we have 3 Hwy. contractor routes that we have to deliver
- 1:12:00and that irks me to no end. I mean.
- 1:12:05Excuse my French, but that just fucking pisses me off because of
- 1:12:10the fact that the highway contractors weren't allowed to
- 1:12:14bid for Sunday work specifically.
- 1:12:17Their contract says that they're not bidding for Sunday hours and
- 1:12:22we have to do it. So why are we paying people to
- 1:12:27do highway work? That's the one thing.
- 1:12:32Like I said, my only saving grace right now in my office is
- 1:12:35the fact that we don't have Sunday Amazon delivery at this
- 1:12:37point. And I know my postmaster would
- 1:12:40probably fight that tooth and nail because she doesn't want to
- 1:12:42have to pay a clerk overtime to come in and sit around why we're
- 1:12:45out delivering. And like I said, thankfully
- 1:12:48that's my only saving grace at this point in time.
- 1:12:51I'm going to switch over and I know we've got a couple.
- 1:12:56Was there any of the other ones that you guys wanted to discuss
- 1:12:59before I switch over to the comments on the podcast pages?
- 1:13:05Nope. OK, I do have one going that was
- 1:13:11on episode 30. They commented how do you become
- 1:13:15a national delegate? I do believe we covered that in
- 1:13:22an episode. Well, I'll quickly go over that
- 1:13:25at some at some point usually just between December and
- 1:13:33February, the newsletter will have you know the national
- 1:13:39magazine will have the delegation nomination form with
- 1:13:46the appeal box for your individual state to fill it out
- 1:13:51and you can self nominate. Or nominate someone else.
- 1:13:56Mail it to that P.O. Box.
- 1:14:00A ballot will then be mailed out to every member in your state
- 1:14:07and it'll say, like, for example, I'm in North Carolina.
- 1:14:10It said we had 50 delegates available this year.
- 1:14:15You can you are not allowed to vote for more than 50 people of
- 1:14:21the 70. Thump them names that were on
- 1:14:25the list. And it's the old it has the list
- 1:14:29of names that are usually random, randomly ordered.
- 1:14:32Put on the sheet and it has a little bubble and you just fill
- 1:14:35in the bubble for who you want to vote for.
- 1:14:39You put that in a secret ballot, A blacked out envelope which
- 1:14:44goes into a second envelope where you put your name and
- 1:14:47address so they can verify that you are a member in good
- 1:14:51standing. They tabulate all once they open
- 1:14:55that envelope, they just start it and just put the black
- 1:14:59envelope in a separate pile and then they go through and they
- 1:15:04tabulate all the votes and in order of the most votes down to
- 1:15:12#50. These are your delegates.
- 1:15:15They announced who those are at the state you mentioned.
- 1:15:19I believe it's has to receive at the P.O.
- 1:15:22Box the nomination or I'm sorry, the ballot has to receive at the
- 1:15:28PA secondary P.O. Box where the state convention
- 1:15:34location is a day or two before the convention opens, so the
- 1:15:41election committee. Yeah, their election committee
- 1:15:43comes in. Right.
- 1:15:46As I'm saying one to two days before the actual opening of the
- 1:15:51convention, of the state convention, so they can tabulate
- 1:15:54those votes and then they announce who from the most votes
- 1:15:59down to the lease votes in order of these first fifty or
- 1:16:03delegates, everyone after that is non is a non delegate.
- 1:16:08North Carolina, we pay the first three non delegates.
- 1:16:14The same delegate pay because potentially you'll get moved up
- 1:16:20as a delegate. Amazon.
- 1:16:23Schedules. And then states.
- 1:16:25Don't forget state too. You can work for a delegate for
- 1:16:28state and that is within your regional, regional or.
- 1:16:34Local district. For for my my region is my
- 1:16:39county that is my local unit is my county.
- 1:16:42There are some that are multiple counties.
- 1:16:45For some, for a few of them, it's the whole state, but
- 1:16:48that'll be in your state magazine before the national one
- 1:16:53comes out, So you'd be want to be looking for that too, because
- 1:16:58like for mine, I I put myself in to be a delegate and there
- 1:17:03weren't enough people running for state delegate, so I was
- 1:17:07automatically made a delegate basically by unanimous decision
- 1:17:12because there were. It was no need to vote when you
- 1:17:15had everybody that signed up being a delegate.
- 1:17:20Right. And like for example with you
- 1:17:24know, I don't know how any others I know like you said some
- 1:17:27states have a mail in for the state for your local, a delegate
- 1:17:32for your local district or region to the state convention.
- 1:17:37The way we do it is we have a sign in sheet.
- 1:17:42At the local meeting that gets passed around and we say if you
- 1:17:48know someone that you think might be attending, add their
- 1:17:51name. And then after it's passed
- 1:17:55around and all the names are collected, our secretary
- 1:17:57treasurer says these are the names that have been nominated
- 1:18:01for delegation at the state convention.
- 1:18:06And she reads all the names out and we take it to a verbal vote,
- 1:18:11an irony vote. Do we accept this list as our
- 1:18:14delegates from our dish, our local district, to go to the
- 1:18:18state convention? We have never had an issue of
- 1:18:23the same as James, where we've had more people on the list than
- 1:18:27we had available delegates. If you want to be involved, get
- 1:18:33involved, because there's room for you to be involved at the
- 1:18:36state level, there's room for you to be involved at the
- 1:18:39national level. Think about this.
- 1:18:42Last year I was a non delegate for state and for National
- 1:18:46Convention, but in that time I've met enough people and
- 1:18:51talked with enough people and enough people thought I had a
- 1:18:54good opinion of what what direction this union should go
- 1:18:57in that they elected me to be delegated at National
- 1:19:00Convention. This year it doesn't.
- 1:19:02It's not that hard to run for delegate and even if you don't
- 1:19:07win you can still go to the conventions and.
- 1:19:11Participate as a non delegate. Ask Kristen.
- 1:19:14She's been a non delegate at these things and still
- 1:19:18participated in them. Three out of my four times I
- 1:19:21have been an alternate delegate that did not get bumped up.
- 1:19:25The only time that I have been a delegate was Grapevine 2019.
- 1:19:30As of right now, I'm still on the alternate list, but I'll
- 1:19:33still be there. I can't vote.
- 1:19:35And I can't go to the mic without somebody requesting to
- 1:19:38suspend the rules and it getting voted in for me to go to the
- 1:19:42mic, which is a very good possibility I made with my one
- 1:19:47resolution that goes up. So we will see what happens.
- 1:19:52Just so I can speak on behalf of my resolution.
- 1:19:56Yeah, I go even though I I can't vote I still go and.
- 1:20:03Going as a state delegate first, because like I said, it's a lot
- 1:20:06of times in most areas it's a lot easier to become a state
- 1:20:09good delegate then at least you're getting to know people.
- 1:20:15And so maybe that next year you have a better chance of getting
- 1:20:18voted in as a national delegate by meeting the people and
- 1:20:22talking to them and getting up on the mic as a state delegate
- 1:20:28when you know when necessary and voicing your opinion on the
- 1:20:31state level. I mean it's great practice for
- 1:20:34the national as Josh couldn't say he was a first timer to
- 1:20:38national last year and he, you know, he's like that was like
- 1:20:41state convention on steroids and it really is.
- 1:20:48And and let me let me make this point.
- 1:20:50Not only are we doing this podcast for free on our own
- 1:20:54time, for your benefit and, you know, for everybody listening.
- 1:20:58We also use our own time, our annual leave to attend these
- 1:21:02conferences, state conventions, national conventions and that's
- 1:21:07that's vacation time for everybody else.
- 1:21:09But we're spending our annual leave, you know, to go to these
- 1:21:14things so that we're more well informed that we can pass that
- 1:21:17information on, that we can become more involved.
- 1:21:21And this is the level of commitment that this, you know,
- 1:21:25team of hosts have, you know. Elevated themselves too, for the
- 1:21:30betterment of this craft. This is not just for us, this is
- 1:21:33for all those people out there, everyone listening, everybody
- 1:21:36that gets the podcast during the week.
- 1:21:39We put this time in for your benefit.
- 1:21:42And I'm going to add to that Bill as an RCA still for a
- 1:21:46couple few more months anyways, up until this year, I didn't
- 1:21:49have leave to use and I still went to everything.
- 1:21:56And I didn't get paid. I didn't have leave to burn.
- 1:22:00That was national conventions, a whole week of no pay.
- 1:22:06It was in the past for me and I'm really close to only having
- 1:22:10maybe a few hours of leave available for this next
- 1:22:13convention as I was double looking at everything.
- 1:22:16But you know, I've going to regional conferences and state
- 1:22:22conventions and national conventions.
- 1:22:24This will be my fifth National Convention and this is the only
- 1:22:28one that I had leave to use for it.
- 1:22:31I was going to all these and cutting my paycheck drastically
- 1:22:37to be there for all of you. So if an RCA can put herself out
- 1:22:43like that, lose money to go to these conventions and represent
- 1:22:48us. I don't want to hear one regular
- 1:22:51ever tell me they don't have time to put 10 minutes a day
- 1:22:55into bettering their job and protecting themselves against a
- 1:22:59hostile work environment from tyrannical management
- 1:23:04individuals who have no knowledge whatsoever what we do,
- 1:23:08how we do it, and just berate us left and right.
- 1:23:12So if this RCA is willing to put her ass out there, and she and
- 1:23:15she does, then folks, you need to step up too.
- 1:23:21And think about this. I'm on table too.
- 1:23:25I'm living paycheck to paycheck, just like most of the rest of
- 1:23:28you are. I'm going to these things
- 1:23:31because like everybody else here, I want to know more.
- 1:23:35I want to be the best rural carrier I can be, with the most
- 1:23:39knowledge of what my job entails and what I am supposed to and
- 1:23:42not supposed to do. I do this to stay within my
- 1:23:45contract and within the law. Whether it be coming on here and
- 1:23:50doing this podcast and helping rural carriers out, or being
- 1:23:55involved at conferences and conventions and things like
- 1:23:59that, it's important to me to know that something's being done
- 1:24:06to help benefit this craft. And change.
- 1:24:09Because the problem is so many people have been
- 1:24:15disenfranchised. By the way things have been
- 1:24:19going. There is a massive split within
- 1:24:22the union itself. And we want to be the people who
- 1:24:28sit here and say we may not have all the answers, but we're going
- 1:24:35to give you as much information about your work conditions, your
- 1:24:40benefits, your wages, what's going on with your job, how you
- 1:24:45can deal with these conditions. And how you can have a voice in
- 1:24:53fighting for the changes that you feel need to be made.
- 1:24:58And how we can do a concerted effort to make our job better
- 1:25:06for everybody. We can sit here and spew oral
- 1:25:11diarrhea all night long. Talking about carrier
- 1:25:14discretion, this, supposedly that, and.
- 1:25:19But at the end of it all, our goal is for you to do all the
- 1:25:24research you can. Get involved, come to state
- 1:25:27convention, come to National Convention, go to your boosters,
- 1:25:31go to events that are going on, go to your county meetings, your
- 1:25:34regional meetings, all that stuff.
- 1:25:36Regional conferences are a wealth of knowledge.
- 1:25:41Your regional conferences, your sack, your swack, your, your
- 1:25:46midstates, your what all the other ones are, are Eastern,
- 1:25:51Eastern and pack West and Western and all that stuff.
- 1:25:57They are. It's not business, It's all
- 1:26:01information. And I I can't express enough how
- 1:26:07much information that you can take away from just these
- 1:26:10regional conferences alone. And and we like we said in the
- 1:26:14past, even you know, you may if you belong to the midstates but
- 1:26:18those dates don't work out with scheduling but you may be like
- 1:26:23on the border of Atlantic. Or or Swack or Sack or something
- 1:26:28or another. You can still sign up and go to
- 1:26:31these other regional conferences.
- 1:26:34You don't have to be part of that region and only attend that
- 1:26:41region if it's not going to fit in with your schedule.
- 1:26:44You can attend one of the other ones and I see I've seen several
- 1:26:49attendees that belong to a different region that go to
- 1:26:53other regions. Just because, well, you know,
- 1:26:56for one thing or another, but a lot of times it just comes down
- 1:26:58to schedules. And management has to give you
- 1:27:01the time off because it's a union function.
- 1:27:05Article 24. Article 24 in the contract
- 1:27:09management is required to give you the time off for union
- 1:27:12functions. I I believe it actually they
- 1:27:16are. Make every.
- 1:27:18Effort supposed to make every effort above and beyond normal
- 1:27:22effort. Above and beyond the normal
- 1:27:25effort for annual leave, and on top of that, that is one of the
- 1:27:29few reasons they can give leave without pay.
- 1:27:33Yes. Is to attend union functions so
- 1:27:37you don't even have to use annual leave to go to these
- 1:27:39things if you don't want to. I use annual leave just I use
- 1:27:45annual leave just to keep my paycheck going.
- 1:27:48You know, having that annual leave as an RCA now does benefit
- 1:27:52me in that aspect. I mean it is nice.
- 1:27:55Don't get me wrong. I you know, I and and and as an
- 1:27:59RCA being able to use it in hourly increments.
- 1:28:02I don't use a full 8 day full 8 hours a day.
- 1:28:05I may use you know I have a 2.67 hour ox route there.
- 1:28:10Depending on how many days I'm going to be gone or what I'm
- 1:28:13doing, I may only take two 3-4 hours tops.
- 1:28:18I don't use a whole day of leave for it.
- 1:28:20You know, 4 hours I think is the most I've done for stuff.
- 1:28:25You know that. That just at least gives me
- 1:28:29something is better than nothing on the paycheck.
- 1:28:31Trust me. You know when you when you get
- 1:28:33back after, especially after a National Convention being gone
- 1:28:35all week and you're only having a one week paycheck, then you
- 1:28:41know at least having those extra few hours helps.
- 1:28:45As an RCA next year I'll be regular, but.
- 1:28:50She I I actually talked to the regular yesterday, not
- 1:28:54yesterday, day before yesterday in my office and she's still
- 1:28:58planning on 1st of September. So I'm I was like I told her I
- 1:29:04said I'm counting down right there with you and I already
- 1:29:08told the sub that's assigned to that route.
- 1:29:12I already told him I said when she goes.
- 1:29:16And and when she goes, it's right about the time our
- 1:29:18seasonals start heading back S for the winter.
- 1:29:22I said I will help you understand what to do when it
- 1:29:26comes to these seasonals. And I will show him how to do an
- 1:29:29edit book. That way he has some knowledge
- 1:29:32and I'm not having to play massive cleanup When I take that
- 1:29:36route over. I can at least you back.
- 1:29:38All right. Let's you know, we'll do this.
- 1:29:40I'll. I'll come in, you know.
- 1:29:43We'll go through it together and I'll show him how it's done.
- 1:29:46I mean my regular, my old regular in my old office, most
- 1:29:50of you, I know, my cohosts that will be at National will get to
- 1:29:53meet her. She showed me how to do the edit
- 1:29:56book because when as a test study office and we did the very
- 1:29:59first phasing of mapping, she was one of those mapping
- 1:30:03facilitators that traveled. And she sat down with me and
- 1:30:07went over the edit book with me. That way I could keep it up
- 1:30:10because there was times where she was going to be gone for
- 1:30:11two, 3-4 weeks at a time and that's where I gained my
- 1:30:15knowledge. I mean.
- 1:30:17And I told him I will show you how to do that edit book.
- 1:30:21Not a problem. You know, I, I I've got regulars
- 1:30:24in my office that come to me about their edit books.
- 1:30:27It's just you know wealth of knowledge and.
- 1:30:33They all respect me in that aspect that, you know, hey, I've
- 1:30:36got a question. This is not like, Oh yeah, we
- 1:30:37just got to mark it this way or flip these around or, you know,
- 1:30:41I need to do this and consolidate on my case this way.
- 1:30:46And I can show them how to do all that stuff and they
- 1:30:49appreciate my knowledge for being able to help them, even as
- 1:30:53a regular. And it really gets my goat when
- 1:30:58regulars don't take the time with their RC A's.
- 1:31:02On their routes to show them how to do it correctly.
- 1:31:06Kristen someone in one of the I don't know if it was the check
- 1:31:11the chat for here or check someone says that they're not.
- 1:31:15They won't be able to make it to any of the regional conferences.
- 1:31:18Is there a way to order the transcripts?
- 1:31:21Is. That I do not know.
- 1:31:23That you would have, I don't know, I know who the mid State
- 1:31:28Secretary is. I don't think there's actually
- 1:31:33transcript. I don't think it's transcribed
- 1:31:37the way like national and state conventions are with an actual
- 1:31:40court reporter, if I'm correct. Court reporter at Mid States.
- 1:31:45No, there is not. Basically, you're just going to
- 1:31:47have to find somebody that was there and that took notes.
- 1:31:51Unfortunately, there is no transcriptions for that.
- 1:31:55Oh gosh. There was something else I was
- 1:31:56going to say, oh, I want to put this out there for everybody.
- 1:32:00As of right now, we have a table for National Convention Banquet.
- 1:32:05I do have a few tickets open like 2, possibly three.
- 1:32:09I'm still waiting on the final headcount, but if there's any of
- 1:32:12you out there that are going to national and I went ahead and
- 1:32:17paid for this table ahead of time.
- 1:32:19If there is anybody of you there's going to National and
- 1:32:22did not get it. Whether it's a last minute sign
- 1:32:25up or you weren't sure if you could afford the banquet or
- 1:32:28you're not sure if you wanted to go to the banquet and you want
- 1:32:30to go to the banquet and you want to sit with us, please
- 1:32:33reach out to our Facebook page and I'll hook you up, no charge.
- 1:32:41I will have a final headcount here shortly.
- 1:32:44And how many banquet tickets we have and if I have to kind of do
- 1:32:48a drawing on it, but those that are interested in sitting at the
- 1:32:51table with us, like I said, two, possibly three open seats for
- 1:32:55the banquet, please let me know and we'll go from there.
- 1:32:59And you get to meet the hosts of the show.
- 1:33:01And you get to sit with us at banquet.
- 1:33:02So hey, it could be a fun time. And no, we're not celebrities.
- 1:33:08And no, we're not signing anything.
- 1:33:10No, no, I'm just offering a couple extra seats that we have
- 1:33:13up that. Unfortunately, you know, some
- 1:33:14people either or I went ahead and reserved a whole table and
- 1:33:19we'll fill those however it needs to be.
- 1:33:21But I would rather put that out to our listeners.
- 1:33:23Anybody that wants to sit with us at banquet, if you don't have
- 1:33:25a banquet ticket, we will see what we can do.
- 1:33:29Like I said, it'll be only a couple, but hey, we'll see what
- 1:33:32we can do. And I'll pick up the slack, OK?
- 1:33:37It's already paid for, checks cleared.
- 1:33:39I'm good. But I know we yeah, I'm an RCA.
- 1:33:43I put that money out again. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:33:48Well. Taking care.
- 1:33:50Of. Everybody at the PA, at the PA
- 1:33:53State convention, we were 35 tickets short for the Veterans
- 1:33:57Club and I bought them up and they were handing them out.
- 1:34:01They were handing out free membership to these people and
- 1:34:03they're like, well, I don't want to join.
- 1:34:05It's already paid for. Oh, OK.
- 1:34:08Oh, as soon as it's paid for, they said, oh, OK, I was like,
- 1:34:12you know, no big deal. But I, you know, I hate to see
- 1:34:15anything lost on the veterans group.
- 1:34:18OK. So we are going to wind it down
- 1:34:20a little bit longer than what we've had in the past few
- 1:34:22episodes, but that's OK. I'm back.
- 1:34:25I got a few of you that reached out and said we missed you last
- 1:34:29week and all. Thank you.
- 1:34:30I appreciate that. I kind of missed you.
- 1:34:33Too. I guess, sure.
- 1:34:38But yeah, I really needed that personal time away.
- 1:34:41It was like I said, I'm still kind of physically recovering
- 1:34:44from it, but I'm not in my 20s anymore.
- 1:34:52But yeah, we're going to wind down.
- 1:34:54So, Josh, any last thoughts, comments, whatever need be for
- 1:35:00this evening? They be safe out there.
- 1:35:04Stay hydrated. Know the symptoms.
- 1:35:08If you're not feeling, if you're starting to not feel well, get
- 1:35:12out of the heat, get out of the sun.
- 1:35:16If you get overwhelmed, you know and call back and tell them
- 1:35:21whether you send a message through the scanner.
- 1:35:24Call them, text, whatever however you need to.
- 1:35:26Just let them know. Look, I'm not feeling good.
- 1:35:29The heat's getting to me. That way they can't say anything
- 1:35:32to you for sitting still for a while.
- 1:35:36Don't get overwhelmed. If you do.
- 1:35:38Take a step back, take a deep breath, step back in, have a
- 1:35:42good week. See you next time.
- 1:35:44I'm going to add to that real quick.
- 1:35:45I do highly recommend if you can call to please call the office.
- 1:35:51I had an issue with one of my other Rca's who is not heat
- 1:35:55tolerant in the least bit who texted the supervisor.
- 1:36:00She he, according to his phone, showed that she read it but she
- 1:36:03never replied. He was getting a hold of me and
- 1:36:09when I got back to the office I said something to her.
- 1:36:12She had actually not seen that text and said why didn't he
- 1:36:15call? They still want to kind of argue
- 1:36:18with me with going out and helping him because of ad hoc
- 1:36:22time and being on some list, I don't know.
- 1:36:25So they finally just said just put it down as a split.
- 1:36:28I went and found him. He was in rough shape.
- 1:36:32I was really worried about him. Unfortunately, they would not
- 1:36:35let me take the rest of the route off of him.
- 1:36:37So I took a good portion off of him and luckily had the next
- 1:36:43couple days to go home and rest and rehydrate.
- 1:36:47But I do recommend calling. If it's a situation to where
- 1:36:51you're in dire need, please call 911.
- 1:36:57And then whoever responds can call your office as well.
- 1:37:00If you are, you're trying to call the office.
- 1:37:02You can't get a hold of anybody. Call 911 because your safety
- 1:37:08comes first and foremost, and that first responder can then
- 1:37:13try and get a hold of the office as well.
- 1:37:16They could radio dispatch. They could send an officer to
- 1:37:19the office if they need me to get a hold of somebody.
- 1:37:22But yes, your your safety, your health is #1.
- 1:37:28Always. Always, James, go ahead.
- 1:37:32Yeah, and remember, it's not a matter of focusing on getting
- 1:37:41the route done, stuff like that. That's what put me down.
- 1:37:45I was 30 minutes from the end of my route and I was feeling
- 1:37:50exhausted, feeling lightheaded, and I pushed through it.
- 1:37:56And that put me down for three days.
- 1:37:59It could have killed me. I made the mistake of pushing
- 1:38:05through it instead of taking a break, cooling myself off and
- 1:38:12trying to keep myself alive. I pushed through on the basis
- 1:38:16that I wanted to get done, to get to the office air
- 1:38:19conditioning, and I made that almost fatal mistake.
- 1:38:25Yeah. And that's probably what
- 1:38:27happened with me Monday. And then instead of taking
- 1:38:32Tuesday off, I, you know, I just chalked it up to the one time,
- 1:38:36you know, you know, maybe I actually didn't drink enough or
- 1:38:40whatever and then went in Tuesday and I said today
- 1:38:44Tuesday. But when I got, when I got home,
- 1:38:47after I got home, I was starting to feel it, which is why I
- 1:38:50decided to call out for Wednesday.
- 1:38:52And the worst part is. That's when they had the call
- 1:38:57out. System was down because they
- 1:38:59were merging it. They were updating the software
- 1:39:02and merging it from luring saver to text.
- 1:39:05Yeah, so I had to actually wait until Wednesday morning and just
- 1:39:11had to keep calling the office until someone answered.
- 1:39:14Yeah, I don't. I don't want to ever go through
- 1:39:17that again. And I make sure that when I
- 1:39:20start feeling hot, I stop and cool off.
- 1:39:24I have places. I parked my truck underneath the
- 1:39:27tree and let the truck cool off. Well, I get out of the truck to
- 1:39:32cool off. Yeah, because those trucks are
- 1:39:36in that truck. You will not cool off sitting in
- 1:39:39that truck trying to cool off. And those trucks can be 20
- 1:39:42degrees or more warmer on the inside than they are on the
- 1:39:45outside. And you have to remember you
- 1:39:48have an engine and exhaust right in front of and right under.
- 1:39:54The driver's seat. The exhaust pipe runs right
- 1:39:57under the driver's seat and whoever.
- 1:39:59So you're getting that heat coming up through the truck even
- 1:40:02when you're sitting in the shade.
- 1:40:05So do what you can to keep yourself safe, keep yourself
- 1:40:10cool and just do your job to the best of your ability so you can
- 1:40:16go home at the end of the night. That's all I got.
- 1:40:22Bill. Well, I'm glad James cleared up
- 1:40:25the exhaust under a truck because my exhaust has enough
- 1:40:27heat of its own. But yeah, James, James and Josh
- 1:40:36both made the fatal mistakes of thinking of pushing themselves
- 1:40:39and and that is the fatal mistake.
- 1:40:44As soon as you feel like that, you know that you know you want
- 1:40:47to get done and you you're trying to push through it.
- 1:40:50That's when you, your common sense has to kick in and you
- 1:40:52have to step out of that vehicle, open up the doors, even
- 1:40:56open up the back, get some air flowing through there, get the
- 1:40:58metal cooled down a little bit, sit under a tree and take as
- 1:41:02much time as you need. Because when you push like that,
- 1:41:07folks, that's when you know accidents are going to happen.
- 1:41:11And like you said, don't. Don't call the office, call 911.
- 1:41:16And let them make you know, call the office or send a patrol car
- 1:41:19to the office. Whatever God's sakes, this job
- 1:41:23is not worth your life, OK? And we've always had several
- 1:41:27carriers lost on both sides of the craft.
- 1:41:30Take care of yourselves, I always say, You know, make sure
- 1:41:33that you get home. You're the most important
- 1:41:34delivery today. I don't know you.
- 1:41:37You don't know me. But trust me, I I don't want to
- 1:41:41read any more deaths. Delivering, you know, packages
- 1:41:45in the Amazon, the dog food. It's not worth your life, ladies
- 1:41:50and gentlemen. Get home to the ones that love
- 1:41:52you. You're the most important
- 1:41:54delivery, and I mean that. Absolutely.
- 1:41:57And we are posting record temperatures in many parts of
- 1:42:01the US and you know, I'm, I'm not going to say global warming
- 1:42:08is true or not. That's not my decision to say on
- 1:42:11that, but. The heat thing is real.
- 1:42:15I mean, I experienced that last weekend.
- 1:42:18You know, I was in Ohio, temperatures were in the mid
- 1:42:2280s. But I am surrounded by 25,000
- 1:42:25people. It makes it a lot hotter than
- 1:42:30what it normally is. No shade and it was rough in
- 1:42:35some spots. I will, I will tell you.
- 1:42:37Luckily they had hydration stations and.
- 1:42:39Saturday I remembered I packed my cool, my, my USBS cooling
- 1:42:43towels for my daughter and I. And so every time we went and
- 1:42:47refilled our water bottles, we were, you know, wetting down our
- 1:42:51cooling towels to take with us. It it's real.
- 1:42:54It's not even just in the mail trucks.
- 1:42:57It can happen just being out and about and outside in the heat as
- 1:43:01well. And they were taught, you know,
- 1:43:03my daughter's all like, I do this.
- 1:43:04I'm like, yeah, I'm going to sit here in front of these huge fans
- 1:43:08in the VIP section that I paid $200.00 extra a ticket for and
- 1:43:13I'm going to stay cool, you know, Don't forget sunscreen as
- 1:43:17well. Even if it's a cloudy day, you
- 1:43:20can still be submitted to those nasty, nasty rays.
- 1:43:26Don't you know, stay cool, stay hydrated, don't chug ice cold
- 1:43:30water because that can be detrimental to you as as well if
- 1:43:35you're in a situation to where you can get to air conditioning
- 1:43:39whether it's a business on your route.
- 1:43:41I know one of my routes has an apartment complex that has the
- 1:43:44old centralized boxes in the wall that you key in and pull
- 1:43:47them out and their air conditioned.
- 1:43:50I will take my time in there just to try and cool down a
- 1:43:53little bit when I'm delivering that mail.
- 1:43:56You know it. I would say I just wanted to
- 1:43:59touch back based on you were saying on the sunscreen on a
- 1:44:04cloudy day. On a cloudy day, it's probably
- 1:44:07the movie is probably worse than on a sunny day.
- 1:44:12Yep. Yeah, because you're thinking
- 1:44:14it's cloudy. I don't need sunscreen.
- 1:44:15Yeah, you do. That I lathered up all last
- 1:44:19week, and even on Saturday when it rained intermittently, we
- 1:44:22still made sure we put that sunblock on before we left to
- 1:44:25the festival grounds. And we took it with us and we
- 1:44:28reapplied as needed throughout the day.
- 1:44:32You know, seek where you can cool yourself down.
- 1:44:36I mean parking in the shade, turning that truck off.
- 1:44:39Get out of the truck to cool yourself down.
- 1:44:45Call your office. You got not getting any response
- 1:44:47from your office. It's getting bad.
- 1:44:49You call 911. You do what you have to do to
- 1:44:54protect yourselves. They said I have another care,
- 1:44:58another RCA in my office who you know is not.
- 1:45:02It is. I'm not a very heat tolerant
- 1:45:04person as is. My tolerance level has gone up
- 1:45:07since I've had this job. But I'm still.
- 1:45:09I am not a very heat talent person.
- 1:45:12Never have been. I like my cold A/C.
- 1:45:15And I'm very much a a a cold winter person.
- 1:45:19I guess that just comes from living in northern Michigan.
- 1:45:22But you know, I I still check on him, even if I know it's hot and
- 1:45:28I'm at a spot where I can stop. I will call him.
- 1:45:31I will send him a text. Hey, how you doing?
- 1:45:33When I've gone out and helped him and I see that he's getting
- 1:45:37you know, he's hot dude, I've got some cold water some
- 1:45:39Gatorade. He's, you know, he's all set.
- 1:45:42But when he went that one day when I went out to help him,
- 1:45:44after I had to fight to go help him, I had to argue that with my
- 1:45:50management going, this is more than likely heat related.
- 1:45:55He needs some assistance. And when I went out there and I
- 1:45:58saw how rough a shape he was in and he had told me he had took
- 1:46:02an assup, a Gatorade and you'll say it didn't hold it down.
- 1:46:08That had me worried and the fact that they wouldn't let me take,
- 1:46:11I had to follow direct order and so I took as much off of I can
- 1:46:15to get him back and he was back to the office before I was and
- 1:46:18he really appreciated that help. But watch out for each other and
- 1:46:22I think that's going to be my hardest thing when I go regular
- 1:46:25is that I am such a team player and I'm kind of like that mom,
- 1:46:28you know, I I'm still one of the younger ones in my office
- 1:46:32though. I'm 45.
- 1:46:34I'm a mom of three people. I've always been that caretaker
- 1:46:37of everybody and I still watch out for everybody in my office
- 1:46:42and especially my newer RCA's. And especially if I know that
- 1:46:46they're not heat tolerant or they're not cold tolerant or you
- 1:46:49know they can't handle the extreme colds.
- 1:46:50You know you, you got to help them out and you have to watch
- 1:46:54out for each other. You have to be a team player.
- 1:46:57That's my biggest thing is yes, we're out on these routes so
- 1:47:00low, but. We're a team in that office and
- 1:47:05if you can stay that team even a little bit, checking in on
- 1:47:08somebody that you know is not tolerating something or is
- 1:47:12having some issues, you know, check in with them.
- 1:47:15Whether it's heat, mental, whatever it is, you have to help
- 1:47:23each other out, whether it's lifting them up, whether it's
- 1:47:27making sure they've got fluids. Or any of that measure.
- 1:47:32I guess that's just kind of the nurturing person and me and
- 1:47:35that's just how I am. But I'm not going to ramble
- 1:47:38anymore guys, so. I thought you were doing such a
- 1:47:41fine job at rambling. Thank you, Phil.
- 1:47:44I, I, I care about each and everyone of you.
- 1:47:47Whether you're in my office, you're in my old office.
- 1:47:50I still keep in touch with people in my my former office.
- 1:47:54I keep in touch with all these guys.
- 1:47:56I mean, we talk every day. Bill and I talk on the phone a
- 1:47:59few times a week sometimes. You know, James and I talk every
- 1:48:02day. Josh and I talk every day.
- 1:48:04You know, it's in one form or another.
- 1:48:07We, I care about each and every one of you out there and the
- 1:48:17only way that we can get. To where we need to be is to
- 1:48:21care about each other and have each other's backs.
- 1:48:25So on that note, we are going to end tonight and we should be
- 1:48:30back next week. I don't have anything going on.
- 1:48:33You guys have anything going on? No.
- 1:48:35OK, we'll be back next week and you all have a safe week.
- 1:48:39Stay cool out there. I know some temperatures are
- 1:48:41rising in the areas. Stay hydrated and have a good
- 1:48:45week everybody.
