- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. A Feria of the twentieth Sunday after Pentecost, October 12 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of today, Gaspar Lefevre writes, this Sunday's mass makes us own that our misfortunes are caused by our unfaithfulness in conforming to the divine will as relayed in the introit in the epistle. Therefore in the same way as the people of Israel when in exile lamented their sins and prayed that God's mercy should be manifested in their favor, as in the introit in the offertory, so the Christian people ask the Lord through the prayers of his spouse, the church, to pardon their sins so that they may serve him with a tranquil heart, which we pray for in the collect by always obeying his commandments as we pray in the post communion. All filled with the Holy Ghost who must fix our attention during the season following Pentecost are gathered together in the temple and take a part in the ceremonies of worship as mentioned in the epistle.
- 1:37They raise to the Lord their eyes full of hope and sing canticles to his glory as in the gradual and the alleluia verse. For in him alone do they put their trust as relayed in the communion verse. Like the king's ruler of whom the gospel speaks, they persevere with faith in their prayer and as he obtained the healing of his dying son, so do they obtain it for their souls to which God applies the heavenly remedies which purify them from all stain, which the priest prays for in the secret prayer. Let us join with faith in the prayer of the church that God appeased thereby may pardon us, purify us, and grant us to serve him with confidence. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
- 2:49Amen. The introit. All that thou hast done to us, O Lord, thou hast done in true judgment because we have sinned against thee, and we have not obeyed thy commandments. But give glory to thy name, and deal with us according to the multitude of thy mercy. Blessed are they who pass through life's journey unstained, who follow the law of the Lord.
- 3:27Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. All that thou hast done to us, O Lord, thou hast done in true judgment, because we have sinned against thee, and we have not obeyed thy commandments. But give glory to thy name, and deal with us according to the multitude of thy mercy. The Collect.
- 4:07Let us pray. Be appeased, O Lord, we beseech thee, and bestow pardon and peace upon thy faithful people, so that our sins being forgiven us in quietness of mind, we may give ourselves to thy service through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians. See, brethren, how carefully you have to tread, not as fools, but as wise men do, hoarding the opportunity that is given you in evil times like these.
- 5:08No. You cannot afford to be reckless. You must grasp what the Lord's will is for you. Do not besought yourselves with wine. That leads to ruin.
- 5:23Let your contentment be in the Holy Ghost. Your tongues unloosed in Psalms and hymns and spiritual music as you sing and give praise to the Lord in your hearts. Give thanks continually to God who is our father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. And as you stand in awe of Christ submit to each other's rights. The gradual, O Lord, all creatures raise their eyes to thee, and thou grantest them in due time their nourishment ready to open thy hand and fill every living creature with thy blessing.
- 6:20Alleluia. Alleluia. A heart to serve thee, O God, a heart ready to serve thee. I will sing of thee and praise thee, my glory. Alleluia.
- 6:40A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to John. At that time a nobleman whose son was lying sick at Capernaum, hearing that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son who was at the point of death. Jesus said to him, you must see signs and miracles happen or you will not believe. Sir, the nobleman said to him, come down before my child dies. Go back home, Jesus told him, thy son is to live.
- 7:32And the man began his journey home, putting his trust in the words Jesus had spoken to him. And while he was on his way down, his servants met him with the message that his son was still alive. So he asked what time it had been when he felt easier and they told him he recovered from his fever yesterday at the seventh hour. The father recognized that it had happened at the very time when Jesus said to him, thy son is to live. And he and all his household found faith.
- 8:21The Offertory Upon the rivers of Babylon there we sat and wept, when we remembered thee, O Zion. The secret. May these mysteries we beseech thee, O Lord, bring us from heaven a healing medicine, and may they root out all vice from our hearts through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface.
- 9:11Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven, together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 10:13Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Go not back on the word thou hast pledged to thy servant, O Lord. There lies all my hope, my comfort in my affliction. The Post Communion.
- 10:39Let us pray. In order, O Lord, that we may become worthy of receiving the gift of thine adorable sacrament, make us be at all times observant of thy commandments through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
- 11:23Let us bless the Lord.
