- 0:00Speaker 1: Look at these credits. You're in Devil Wears Prada too?
- 0:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:04Speaker 1: As yourself?
- 0:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Oh my God. Dude, that's the flex of maybe all year.
- 0:10Speaker 1: As yourself in Devil Wears Prada. Yeah.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Don't look down at your popcorn. You're going to miss it.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I'm there for like two seconds.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to the Precap, a daily show podcast
- 0:22Speaker 1: where we sit down with this week's host of The
- 0:24Speaker 1: Daily Show to recap some of the latest news. and
- 0:28Speaker 1: also preview what might be coming up this week. I'm
- 0:32Speaker 1: David Angelo, writer on this show, and I'm joined today
- 0:34Speaker 1: by your host for the week, Ronnie Chang.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Hey, David. You know, you really could become an NPR.
- 0:42Speaker 1: You think so?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, your voice.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I just don't have the drive, you know, that's the problem.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I tried it once, and the problem is I only
- 0:50Speaker 1: have this.
- 0:51Speaker 2: No, but that's fine.
- 0:52Speaker 1: It's monetary, but it doesn't, I can't do.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's a way where this is, you know.
- 0:57Speaker 1: There's like one. Yeah. Yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 2: There's a gig. There's a gig where this is, you know.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Hey.
- 1:01Speaker 2: You got the velvety voice, man. You got the velvety voice.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Well, thank you, Ronnie. It's always nice doing a podcast
- 1:07Speaker 1: with you.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Wait till they see what you're wearing on the video podcast.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What's going on? We were both, before we started, you
- 1:16Speaker 1: were dressed just as terribly as me. Yes, I was.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And then you went, because you have a wardrobe privilege here. Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 1: And then you went and got like a full-on designer,
- 1:26Speaker 1: you're wearing Ferragamo suit. These are $ 1, 200 shoes. And now
- 1:32Speaker 1: I look like I'm just on the bus.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you came off the bus.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And I have no way to get, I can't refine it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: What am I going to do? Take the hoodie off?
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'll look worse.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Well, you're wearing a polo. At least you're wearing a collar.
- 1:41Speaker 1: There is a collar. There's probably stains. I don't even know.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Don't take this the wrong way, but I mean, you know,
- 1:45Speaker 2: you do look like a writer, comedy writer.
- 1:47Speaker 1: That's true. We're supposed to be kind of.
- 1:50Speaker 2: That's the vibe, yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Quirky, that type of thing.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Quirky and, you know, focus on the craft.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Right, right. I'm just in my head, man, thinking up ideas,
- 1:59Speaker 1: speaking up. Should we segue into... What were we talking about?
- 2:03Speaker 1: The news that we missed.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So this week we had FBI Director Kash Patel went
- 2:09Speaker 1: to Hawaii.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yep, yep.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And he got a VIP snorkel trip at the Pearl
- 2:15Speaker 1: Harbor Memorial.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Now, that's a weird place to snorkel. The memorial?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess. I mean, I don't know.
- 2:25Speaker 1: It's like throwing a birthday party at the 9-11 snorkeling.
- 2:32Speaker 2: As someone who goes to Hawaii a lot, specifically Oahu,
- 2:37Speaker 2: which is where the Pohaba Memorial is, I mean, yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 2: I guess... if you're in Hawaii, you do go snorkeling.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I mean, look, if my only thing is what was,
- 2:48Speaker 2: what's his duty? What was he doing in Hawaii? Why
- 2:51Speaker 2: the FBI doesn't need to be in Hawaii.
- 2:53Speaker 1: They're going to crack open the case on the Pearl Harbor, uh, attack.
- 2:59Speaker 1: We're this close to finding out who did this.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Yeah. So, so I, I don't mind, uh, I guess
- 3:06Speaker 2: people need vacations, but Yeah, I just want to know
- 3:08Speaker 2: why is this. Is this an official duty thing? Is this,
- 3:12Speaker 2: you know, what was he doing in Hawaii? Was he,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I just need more details on this.
- 3:17Speaker 1: They do get it. Have you ever been snorkeling?
- 3:19Speaker 2: Snorkeling, yes. Snorkeling, yes.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I did it once. I had a panic attack.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you have to get over it.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Because you have nothing.
- 3:26Speaker 2: You have nothing and you have a tube in your mouth.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:29Speaker 2: That's it.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And it only works if you're like right at the
- 3:31Speaker 1: surface anyway.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yes, yes. And even the new age ones, I don't
- 3:34Speaker 2: know if you've seen the new age snorkels where it's
- 3:37Speaker 2: a whole mask and the tube sticks out the middle
- 3:40Speaker 2: of the head. So versus the traditional snorkel that we
- 3:44Speaker 2: think about where it's a visor and then a tube
- 3:46Speaker 2: coming out of your mouth. There's one that covers your
- 3:48Speaker 2: entire face so that it's supposed to be easier to
- 3:51Speaker 2: use so you can breathe normally because it's not just
- 3:53Speaker 2: your mouth. But guess what? That thing causes carbon dioxide
- 3:56Speaker 2: poisoning because it doesn't work properly. You can't win. You
- 3:59Speaker 2: can't win.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Stay safe out there. Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 2: All right.
- 4:02Speaker 1: If you're trying to snorkel in Oahu, what else do
- 4:05Speaker 1: you do? If you're in Hawaii, what's the must-do?
- 4:09Speaker 2: If you're in Hawaii, the only thing you must do
- 4:13Speaker 2: is give out the energy that you want to receive.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Because that's what happens in Hawaii. If you give out
- 4:21Speaker 2: shitty energy in Hawaii, they will beat the shit out
- 4:24Speaker 2: of you. You remember that guy threw the rock at
- 4:27Speaker 2: the monk seal? oh this didn't reach your algorithm no
- 4:31Speaker 2: no so this guy this white guy from Seattle threw
- 4:35Speaker 2: a rock at like an endangered seal in Hawaii and
- 4:37Speaker 2: he was kind of really like whatever guys I'll pay
- 4:41Speaker 2: the fine and then the next video of him was
- 4:43Speaker 2: him getting his ass beat by Hawaii justice so you
- 4:49Speaker 2: know Hawaii the only thing you must do is you
- 4:52Speaker 2: get the energy that you give out and if you're
- 4:54Speaker 2: nice in Hawaii people will give it to you double
- 4:56Speaker 2: and if you're not nice in Hawaii they will give
- 4:58Speaker 2: it to you double too But to answer your question specifically,
- 5:00Speaker 2: I know you're asking more about.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I know. I was like, what about Tom's Barbecue or something?
- 5:04Speaker 2: I know. You could go for a hike. And Hawaii
- 5:07Speaker 2: is all about going for hikes. You know, everything else
- 5:09Speaker 2: is kind of whatever. But go for the secret waterfall hikes.
- 5:13Speaker 2: That's what you got to do in Hawaii. That's my tip.
- 5:16Speaker 2: That is a good tip. You know, today's sponsor is Hawaii.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Hawaii Waterfalls.
- 5:20Speaker 1: The island nation of Hawaii.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Well.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Our state. No, it's a state. It's a state now,
- 5:25Speaker 1: isn't it? We're really up to current events here at
- 5:28Speaker 1: the show.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 1: What else is happening? Eurovision.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Eurovision.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So Eurovision, for those of you, the American viewers, is
- 5:38Speaker 1: a very intense song. It's kind of like American Idol,
- 5:42Speaker 1: but for songs.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Is that how you would describe it?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Isn't American Idol for songs?
- 5:47Speaker 1: No, that's for singers. Oh, but what? American Idol is like,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I'm an idol. I'm the singer that you're going to,
- 5:55Speaker 1: Kelly Clarkson.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Oh, I never thought of it like that.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and Eurovision, although you're right because the group is
- 6:01Speaker 1: also presenting the song, but it's really like, here's the song.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Of our country. That's an interesting distinction because I didn't
- 6:11Speaker 2: think about it like that. The reason I know anything
- 6:13Speaker 2: about Eurovision is because for some reason it's big in Australia.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And why is Australia? They couldn't be further away. What
- 6:21Speaker 1: are they butting their heads into?
- 6:23Speaker 2: Yeah. So Eurovision, they would broadcast it in Australia for many,
- 6:28Speaker 2: many years. It would be like on the free-to-air thing.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And I think because Australia has the largest population of
- 6:34Speaker 2: Greeks outside of Greece, they have like, I'm pretty sure
- 6:37Speaker 2: the largest, maybe the second largest population of Italians outside
- 6:41Speaker 2: of Italy and America. So they have a very, and
- 6:44Speaker 2: they're very European. If you've been to Australia, it just
- 6:46Speaker 2: feels very European. Yeah. It's closer to Europe than it
- 6:49Speaker 2: is America. Well, at least until recently. So I think
- 6:55Speaker 2: it really found an audience there. And then I remember
- 6:58Speaker 2: just before I came over to America 10 years ago,
- 7:01Speaker 2: they sent a team to join Eurovision. So they didn't participate.
- 7:05Speaker 2: They just were like a very happy audience watching it.
- 7:09Speaker 2: And then they were like, hey, you love Eurovision? Hey,
- 7:12Speaker 2: Come join in. So they send Australian to Eurovision.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:16Speaker 2: And one thing that was interesting about Eurovision, when I
- 7:17Speaker 2: watched it, again, this is over 10 years ago, in Australia, Eurovision,
- 7:23Speaker 2: they would, you know how it's like brackets, right? So
- 7:25Speaker 2: it'd be first round, second round, semifinals, finals. It's a competition.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:29Speaker 2: They would do the same song.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, the whole time through.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Isn't that weird?
- 7:34Speaker 2: That is weird.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you'd think, well, give us another one. Because then
- 7:37Speaker 1: it's hard to keep voting for the same thing. Like, oh, yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 1: we still like this.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 1: But I guess they only bring like one or two, right?
- 7:46Speaker 2: I mean, they bring... When I saw it, they brought one.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Maybe if they went to the finals, maybe they had
- 7:51Speaker 2: a second one. I don't remember that. But how do
- 7:54Speaker 2: you know anything about Eurovision?
- 7:55Speaker 1: I barely... I just want to say I barely know anything.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but how do you even know anything about it?
- 8:00Speaker 1: Who's the big... Is.
- 8:03Speaker 1: ABBA win Eurovision?
- 8:04Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Is that what it was?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Is that like the one group that ever crossovered?
- 8:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 8:10Speaker 1: 45 years ago?
- 8:11Speaker 2: I think there's been a few.
- 8:12Speaker 1: ABBA and I think Celine Dion. Celine Dion?
- 8:15Speaker 2: But she's Canadian. Well, she's not even Canadian. She's Quebecois.
- 8:19Speaker 1: She's Quebecois.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Here we go. Here we go with the.
- 8:21Speaker 1: We're Googling it. We know she's Quebecois. She won 1988. See,
- 8:25Speaker 1: we should have had more of like a... How come?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Has America... Does America.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Representing Switzerland?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Celine Dion?
- 8:33Speaker 2: How is she representing Switzerland? Under what context was she
- 8:39Speaker 2: representing Switzerland?
- 8:40Speaker 1: Very bizarre. What?
- 8:41Speaker 2: You can just send Celine Dion as Switzerland?
- 8:44Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Maybe they drafted her.
- 8:45Speaker 2: They drafted her?
- 8:47Speaker 1: They're like, we want to stay neutral.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I mean, you know the other thing about Eurovision? I
- 8:53Speaker 2: don't think the UK sends anyone.
- 8:56Speaker 1: The UK is very weird about not being European.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I understand. I know. But I'm just saying they did.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I know.
- 9:02Speaker 1: They're right there.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Yeah. They're right there.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And they have the best songwriters. Yeah.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Right? They got the pipes. They sent Adele. Adele.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Susan Boyle. Susan Boyle. You know? Get in there. They
- 9:15Speaker 1: should have sent Susan Boyle that one year. We were
- 9:17Speaker 1: all impressed with Susan.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Oh, they should have sent, what's the boy band?
- 9:23Speaker 1: One Dimension.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 1: One Dimension? One Dimension.
- 9:26Speaker 2: One Direction. We are really bad.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I did an unintentional slam on them.
- 9:31Speaker 2: One Dimension. One Dimension.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Sorry, One Direction. One Direction. There was a time I
- 9:35Speaker 1: ran into Harry Styles twice within 24 hours in Los Angeles.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Oh.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Once at Cafe 101. We were both leaving at the
- 9:42Speaker 1: same time. I didn't know who he was.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:44Speaker 1: He just was a person, but we were the only
- 9:46Speaker 1: two people in there. It was very late at night.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Then the next day, we're at Trails Cafe in.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Griffith Park.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I go to get a coffee. He's there, the same guy.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I still don't know who he is, but it's like...
- 9:59Speaker 1: I ran into you literally. We were the only two
- 10:02Speaker 1: people at that cafe, and now we're standing in this
- 10:04Speaker 1: other one getting coffee, broad daylight, and there was a
- 10:08Speaker 1: commotion around him. And I'm like, is this a famous person?
- 10:12Speaker 1: And he had a rose tattoo on his shoulder, and
- 10:15Speaker 1: I Googled it, and it was Harry Styles.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Right, but did you guys give each other like a
- 10:19Speaker 2: head nod at least?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was so bizarre because I clearly
- 10:23Speaker 1: wasn't stalking him because it was so random.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Right, and you are you.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and I didn't know who he was.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Right, but he must have been like, well, this is
- 10:30Speaker 1: so bizarre.
- 10:31Speaker 2: But he did give you a bit of acknowledgement.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Oh, cool.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I think he was just like, what's happening? Right, right.
- 10:36Speaker 1: In his head, I might have been like a CIA.
- 10:39Speaker 1: There must have been something weird with what was going on.
- 10:41Speaker 2: When you saw him, you didn't think he's extremely good
- 10:44Speaker 2: looking and.
- 10:45Speaker 1: No, he wasn't. He was very cool. Right.
- 10:47Speaker 2: And so his vibe, you're like, this guy's someone famous. Yeah.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And then because the first time I saw him, it
- 10:53Speaker 1: was just the two of us. We were different. We're
- 10:55Speaker 1: not eating together, but we're the only two people in
- 10:58Speaker 1: that restaurant.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And then this time it was in public and there
- 11:01Speaker 1: were like 30 people around. And it was getting very
- 11:05Speaker 1: chattery the way, you know, when it's like there's a
- 11:07Speaker 1: famous person and no one wants to say anything, but
- 11:10Speaker 1: everyone's got a different demeanor. You get that all the time.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I get that all the time. So just to explore
- 11:16Speaker 2: this Eurovision thing, if America was to send someone to
- 11:20Speaker 2: try to sweep this, take over Eurovision.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Can we send Taylor Swift?
- 11:26Speaker 2: Oh, if we send Taylor Swift, we would crush it.
- 11:27Speaker 1: You think we win? I feel like the Euro... They
- 11:30Speaker 1: would vote against us on principle.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yes, they would vote on principle. But because now you're
- 11:36Speaker 2: just playing for the clips, right? So you will win
- 11:38Speaker 2: on the internet. But also... Eurovision interesting you brought up
- 11:43Speaker 2: the singer song thing because I know what you mean
- 11:45Speaker 2: by Eurovision is more focused on the song because they
- 11:48Speaker 2: put a lot of production value into the song it's
- 11:50Speaker 2: like costumes there's like lighting design and Taylor Swift Taylor
- 11:54Speaker 2: Swift that's what she does she has that you know
- 11:57Speaker 2: she's got.
- 11:57Speaker 1: The thing she's got that it factor you.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Know can you imagine if America sent like you know
- 12:03Speaker 2: Kendrick Lamar or someone like a.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Hip hop I know we could do it yeah we
- 12:07Speaker 1: could have they had a hip hop.
- 12:09Speaker 2: No Well, not that I know of. They probably have, like,
- 12:12Speaker 2: Irish hip-hop or something.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Eurovision, I will say this, and, you know, leave your
- 12:15Speaker 1: hate in the comments, but European songs, they're a little
- 12:21Speaker 1: in the same lane all the time, right?
- 12:23Speaker 2: A little bit anthemy. A little bit like national anthems.
- 12:26Speaker 2: A little bit. You know? They sound a little bit
- 12:28Speaker 2: like national anthems.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just kind of like... They have... And it's
- 12:32Speaker 1: very synth-heavy.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 1: They kind of have, like, a sound.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but they do have a sound. You know? That's fair.
- 12:38Speaker 2: That's fair. To have a Euro sound?
- 12:39Speaker 1: You know, a Euro beat? I think I could win
- 12:41Speaker 1: Euro beat. We don't need to send Taylor, okay? I
- 12:46Speaker 1: think I could go do this.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Hey, this is cool, man. I like it. I'm not
- 12:49Speaker 2: a hater. I'm like... You're not a hater. I try
- 12:52Speaker 2: not to be a hater with art, you know?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Right. I've caused an international calamity with my comments probably on.
- 12:59Speaker 2: What, on this? Yeah. No, it's okay. Europeans aren't listening
- 13:02Speaker 2: to this.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I'm going to be a little bit... we're going to
- 13:05Speaker 1: be in trouble, Ronnie, internationally on this episode of the podcast.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I like it. I like that they have a thing
- 13:12Speaker 2: and it's Euro and it's different to America. You know,
- 13:14Speaker 2: it's like, it's cool. It's all these continents feel like
- 13:18Speaker 2: different planets to me in a good way. You know,
- 13:20Speaker 2: it's like when you go to Southeast Asia, it's like
- 13:22Speaker 2: a different planet, you know, it's, it's true.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It's different.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You go Euro, it's a different planet. It's what they
- 13:26Speaker 2: do there. They, they sing the same song six times
- 13:29Speaker 2: to win a competition. And, You know, it's got this
- 13:31Speaker 2: very distinct beat. It's cool.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It is true. Europe, everything's a little weird. You know,
- 13:36Speaker 1: like weird to us.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 1: You know, just because it's different.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I did my first comedy tour of Europe. First
- 13:44Speaker 2: ever last year. And it was eye-opening. It was great.
- 13:48Speaker 2: They serve food. it's like a quarter of the serving
- 13:53Speaker 2: of American size. And you look at it and you're like,
- 13:56Speaker 2: is this a war ration? Why is it so small?
- 13:59Speaker 2: You eat it and you're like, oh, this is the
- 14:00Speaker 2: perfect amount.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Right, because it's like half of its heavy cream. Yeah.
- 14:04Speaker 2: No, they just knew the old world, they didn't have
- 14:08Speaker 2: unlimited resources. And so their serving size was reasonable. And
- 14:12Speaker 2: in America, we've got so much abundance. They feel like
- 14:15Speaker 2: to have a meal, you need four times the amount
- 14:17Speaker 2: that you're supposed to have. But you don't, so.
- 14:21Speaker 1: That's true. And now we're all on Ozempic.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Now we're on Ozempic, yeah.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Maybe we're going to go Euro style.
- 14:26Speaker 2: So Euro style.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It wins out in the end. Eventually the European portion
- 14:30Speaker 1: size is what we're all going to adopt. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 1: But yeah, Europe, it's like, you know how their outlets
- 14:36Speaker 1: are just a little different?
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Like that's for everything.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And their phone numbers have like question marks in them. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Phone number will be like 18 letters in a number, right? Yeah.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yes.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I don't know. Anyway, Bulgaria, we love you. Friend of
- 14:51Speaker 1: the show. And I'll be in Sofia. See, I know
- 14:55Speaker 1: the capital of Bulgaria, which how many people could?
- 14:57Speaker 2: Not many people.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Watch that if you're wrong. I think that's the city. Anyway, Eurovision.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Let's move on to Luxmaxer.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Clavicular got mogged recently. Not mugged. Mogged. By a Chad
- 15:17Speaker 1: judge in Miami.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Uh-huh.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So, all of these words, this is like a new vocabulary.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yeah, this sentence, I truly did not know what any
- 15:28Speaker 2: of these words meant.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Other than Miami.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Miami, yeah. We'll use that as a key and we'll
- 15:36Speaker 1: work around that. So looks maxer clavicular. Yeah. Mogged by
- 15:40Speaker 1: Chad Judge.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So what he is, is he's a looks maxer.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Meaning he's trying to be as good looking as he
- 15:46Speaker 1: can possibly be. I'm a looks minner. You know, I really,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I lean in the other way. I'm just, I don't
- 15:51Speaker 1: know what's going on. I haven't seen my own hair
- 15:54Speaker 1: in weeks. So I don't know what's going on. But
- 15:56Speaker 1: he was in court. Do we know why he was
- 15:59Speaker 1: in court?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I don't know why he was in court. Oh, oh,
- 16:02Speaker 2: Alan told me this before the show. He was in
- 16:04Speaker 2: court because he shot an alligator.
- 16:08Speaker 1: He shot an alligator?
- 16:10Speaker 2: I'm guessing for the internet?
- 16:12Speaker 1: Well, that is a.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Or was it self-defense?
- 16:16Speaker 1: Self-defense, I mean, that's a good case.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Sure, sure.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You know? Because an alligator, they're going to get you.
- 16:24Speaker 2: I'm glad that he's going to court for this, but
- 16:26Speaker 2: I am surprised that it's illegal to shoot an alligator
- 16:30Speaker 2: in Miami. I thought they would just let it, you know.
- 16:33Speaker 1: You thought they would let it fly?
- 16:34Speaker 2: Let it fly, yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 1: You know? I just want to know, did somebody help
- 16:39Speaker 1: the alligator and perhaps render Gatorade? Leave your comments below
- 16:45Speaker 1: in the YouTube.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Leave your comments in the thing. We'll never see any
- 16:48Speaker 2: of that.
- 16:49Speaker 1: What a strange thing.
- 16:50Speaker 2: So anyway, back to, you know, the theme of this
- 16:54Speaker 2: topic is that the judge, who I'm assuming put in
- 16:57Speaker 2: no effort, looks better than this dude who, He broke
- 17:01Speaker 2: his facial bones to looks max.
- 17:04Speaker 1: He's full-timing trying to look as good as possible. And
- 17:07Speaker 1: then the judge, who has a law degree, slaps on
- 17:11Speaker 1: a black robe, steals the show.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe some bride cream. That's it.
- 17:15Speaker 1: That's all he's got. And he looks good. That's the
- 17:18Speaker 1: real punishment. He doesn't even care about the verdict after that.
- 17:22Speaker 1: He just knows he's got mogged. Poor Calavicular. What's his
- 17:27Speaker 1: legal name? He can't show up to court like that, right?
- 17:31Speaker 2: Clavicula?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Your Honor, my client, Clavicula.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I mean, maybe he changed it. Maybe he changed it to, oh, Braden.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Braden Eric Peters.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Three first names. Last time I read about Clavicula, I
- 17:44Speaker 2: thought he OD'd on meth because he OD'd on camera
- 17:49Speaker 2: or something.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:49Speaker 2: So I'm surprised. The next time I heard about him,
- 17:51Speaker 2: he was in court and looking.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Shooting an alligator, no less. I mean, he rebounded, right?
- 17:55Speaker 2: Rebounded, really? Yeah. He rebounded really well.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Yeah, so he's doing all right. Good for you, Clavicular.
- 18:02Speaker 1: We wish you well in your quest to max. Oh,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know what? We've got to look ahead, too. So
- 18:09Speaker 1: on the podcast, on the pre-cap, we don't just review
- 18:13Speaker 1: what happened. We look ahead to what might happen. And
- 18:17Speaker 1: this week, when you're hosting, we have a couple things
- 18:22Speaker 1: going on. We have Stephen Colbert's final week of show's
- 18:27Speaker 1: hosting the late show on cbs yes yes so i
- 18:32Speaker 1: don't know how many years it had to have been
- 18:35Speaker 1: at least.
- 18:36Speaker 2: 10 10 yeah he because he started the show when
- 18:38Speaker 2: i started here wow so 10 maybe 11 i remember
- 18:43Speaker 2: he uh legendary correspondent uh great satire with the colbert
- 18:49Speaker 2: report you know the kind of satire where like both
- 18:54Speaker 2: sides of the political spectrum would both watch the show
- 18:57Speaker 2: and get something else out of it he took over
- 19:02Speaker 2: the late show and you know I he was always
- 19:07Speaker 2: very nice to me he actually let me on the
- 19:10Speaker 2: couch he was the first person in America to let
- 19:13Speaker 2: me sit on a couch.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Anywhere not even just on TV we're very protective of
- 19:19Speaker 1: the living room furniture how many times have you done
- 19:22Speaker 1: the late show? Only once.
- 19:23Speaker 2: That was the only time he let me on. And
- 19:25Speaker 2: I was super grateful. He was very kind to me.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Did you do this? You did a set?
- 19:30Speaker 2: No, I sat. I was a guest.
- 19:31Speaker 1: You just came straight out.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I was a guest. Yeah, I was a guest on
- 19:34Speaker 2: the show, which a little bit of showbiz behind the scenes.
- 19:40Speaker 2: They don't let dirty comics be guests on late shows.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:44Speaker 2: You know, you go sing for your supper. But Colbert
- 19:46Speaker 2: was like, he let me sit on the couch with him,
- 19:48Speaker 2: which was very nice, you.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Know, so.
- 19:50Speaker 2: And I remember it was a weird, the universe was
- 19:53Speaker 2: weird because a couple months before I got, I was
- 19:57Speaker 2: a guest on the late show of Colbert, I was
- 19:59Speaker 2: doing a show in Boston. It was the day after
- 20:02Speaker 2: Trump got elected. And I was literally like, you know,
- 20:05Speaker 2: a day after. So I was doing the show and
- 20:08Speaker 2: we were talking about it on, on, on, at this
- 20:10Speaker 2: standup show in Boston. After the show, someone came up
- 20:13Speaker 2: to me and gave me this Colbert wristband that apparently
- 20:18Speaker 2: Colbert gave out 10 years before then. So it's 20
- 20:21Speaker 2: years at this point. And he gave it out to people.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And the bit on the Colbert report at that time
- 20:25Speaker 2: was like, I'm going to give this to people. And
- 20:27Speaker 2: then the mission is to get these wristbands back to me.
- 20:31Speaker 2: You have to figure out how to pass it on
- 20:33Speaker 2: back to me, Colbert. So this guy came up to
- 20:36Speaker 2: me after the show and he's like, Hey, I got
- 20:37Speaker 2: this wristband from the Colbert report. And he, The idea
- 20:41Speaker 2: is to give it back to Colbert. And so I'll
- 20:43Speaker 2: give it to you because he gave it to me
- 20:45Speaker 2: because he said I would have a better chance of
- 20:46Speaker 2: meeting him.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And at that time, I didn't think I was going
- 20:49Speaker 2: to meet Colbert, but I just took it. And then
- 20:50Speaker 2: I went on the Colbert report, the late show, and
- 20:53Speaker 2: I gave it to him.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And he was like, what's this?
- 20:55Speaker 2: He was like, what is this? He was like, I
- 20:58Speaker 2: don't know what this is. And you know those wristbands
- 21:00Speaker 2: that are cool, the silicone wristbands that were like cool
- 21:02Speaker 2: 20 years ago?
- 21:03Speaker 1: Right, the Lance Armstrongs.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Yeah, the Lance Armstrongs. They don't age well. They don't
- 21:08Speaker 2: age well.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Wet?
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Oh, gooey?
- 21:13Speaker 2: Like wet. If you touch the Livestrong shit now, they're
- 21:16Speaker 2: like wet. So it was like this disintegrating silicon thing.
- 21:20Speaker 2: It's probably toxic. And I gave it back to him.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And he looked at it. He was like, oh, yeah.
- 21:25Speaker 2: And I think he probably threw it away. And then
- 21:28Speaker 2: the other thing that Colbert was really good about was
- 21:31Speaker 2: that there's actually a chain letter that gets passed from
- 21:36Speaker 2: correspondent to correspondent. of Colbert advice on how to be
- 21:41Speaker 2: a correspondent. And he dictated it. And I think Rob
- 21:47Speaker 2: Riggle wrote it down and gave it to Klepper who
- 21:52Speaker 2: gave it to me. And it's this chain letter of
- 21:56Speaker 2: how to be a correspondent on a daily show. It's
- 21:58Speaker 2: like 15 dot points.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah. That's kind of a secret insider knowledge there.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like when you write letters to the president.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I never heard of that letter. And then you've held
- 22:09Speaker 1: on to it not to give it to anyone else.
- 22:10Speaker 2: No, I gave it to them. I sent it to
- 22:12Speaker 2: the other correspondents, the guys who joined the show. I
- 22:15Speaker 2: always send it to them. I feel a little weird
- 22:17Speaker 2: saying it to them because it feels like a little culty, but.
- 22:19Speaker 2: it's good advice about how to, you know, be a
- 22:22Speaker 2: correspondent on the show.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Is there any tidbit you can, is it secret? I
- 22:25Speaker 1: feel like we're not allowed to talk about it.
- 22:27Speaker 2: No, it's not that secret. It's, um, you know, it's very,
- 22:30Speaker 2: very practical stuff. Like tape is free.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:33Speaker 2: So keep taping. Meaning when you're doing a field piece,
- 22:37Speaker 2: just keep going. It's, it's, it's okay. Don't stress. It's
- 22:39Speaker 2: not a live show.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Um, he said stuff like, uh, yeah, to do satire
- 22:44Speaker 2: really well, you kind of have to, you kind of
- 22:46Speaker 2: have to leave your conscience hanging. on a coat hanger
- 22:51Speaker 2: in the office. Right. You can't, you can't bring it
- 22:54Speaker 2: with you. Um, yeah, just stuff like that, you know,
- 22:57Speaker 2: pretty mean stuff to do satire in America. You kind
- 23:01Speaker 2: of have to be a bit, you know, you have
- 23:03Speaker 2: to be a bit fearless. So he was basically, you know,
- 23:06Speaker 2: espousing those values and, um, no, he was, he was great.
- 23:10Speaker 1: What were you promoting? Were you promoting like a movie
- 23:12Speaker 1: or was it a daily show?
- 23:14Speaker 2: I think it was daily show. I didn't have, there
- 23:16Speaker 2: was no reason he, he, he should have had me
- 23:18Speaker 2: on the couch and he did. Because he was being
- 23:21Speaker 2: nice to alumni.
- 23:22Speaker 1: What was the green room like? That's the Ed Sullivan Theater.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Ed Sullivan, legendary theater.
- 23:26Speaker 1: The Beatles.
- 23:27Speaker 2: The Beatles, Letterman.
- 23:29Speaker 1: So you played the same room as the Beatles. I guess.
- 23:32Speaker 2: And it's a dream for all comics. I mean, of,
- 23:35Speaker 2: I guess, our generation. We're just under that generation. But
- 23:39Speaker 2: to be on Letterman.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:41Speaker 2: And we never got to do it.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Well, yeah, here's my Letterman story. Just to tell you,
- 23:45Speaker 1: so you can gauge the level of comic I am.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Kumail got on Letterman. So I went to go in
- 23:53Speaker 1: the audience because I knew Kumail.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 1: So I went to go see the taping of Letterman.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And I was leaving. I was going to Europe a
- 24:02Speaker 1: few days later. So I was backstage and I took
- 24:04Speaker 1: some cardboard boxes so I could pack something. I was
- 24:08Speaker 1: moving and I took cardboard boxes from the Ed Sullivan
- 24:12Speaker 1: Theater to pack.
- 24:15Speaker 2: So.
- 24:17Speaker 1: There's two different ends of the spectrum of show business, right?
- 24:20Speaker 1: You know, you have your... Colbert's sending me letters, and me,
- 24:24Speaker 1: I'm just looking for loose cardboard to move out of
- 24:27Speaker 1: my studio apartment.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Where did you find the cardboard?
- 24:30Speaker 1: It was just in the backstage. At the time, when
- 24:34Speaker 1: Letterman was there, it was really kind of run down,
- 24:37Speaker 1: like the theater area. Yes, yes. And it was just,
- 24:39Speaker 1: there were all these cardboard boxes, and I was like,
- 24:41Speaker 1: can I take some of these? That's my brush with, like,
- 24:45Speaker 1: You know, TV fame.
- 24:48Speaker 2: And were they useful?
- 24:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sure. I mean, honestly. And I remember that.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I don't even remember the taping. But I do remember
- 24:55Speaker 1: being like, wow, this is where the Beatles were and
- 24:57Speaker 1: all that stuff.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's cool. Showbiz is cool. Also, there's Hello Deli.
- 25:01Speaker 1: I don't know if you remember.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Next to, right on the same building as Letterman.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Right. Angelo's Pizza.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Angelo's Pizza is there. But Hello Deli is more famous
- 25:12Speaker 2: because Rupert G... the owner of the deli would get
- 25:16Speaker 2: on Letterman.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Oh, right, right, right.
- 25:18Speaker 2: So I would go there just to order like sandwiches.
- 25:21Speaker 2: They're like Asian people. So I'm still friends with them.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I'm still friends with Rupert G and I think it's
- 25:25Speaker 2: his wife. I'm not sure, but this is an Asian woman.
- 25:28Speaker 2: She loves comedy. I always invite her to my shows
- 25:30Speaker 2: and all that. Oh, wow.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Look at that. Yeah. See? So yeah, Colbert's last episode, Thursday.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yes.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yes.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I don't know why they're getting rid of the show.
- 25:44Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I'm always a fan of
- 25:47Speaker 2: American comedy institutions.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Oh, right.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Just putting it out there, even as a loss leader
- 25:56Speaker 2: marketing show to promote your movies.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Right. Oh, right. As part of the conglomerate of Paramount.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:04Speaker 1: To be able to say, we're here in a big
- 26:09Speaker 1: theater in Manhattan.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 1: You get a crowd every night?
- 26:12Speaker 2: You get a crowd every night who are excited to
- 26:14Speaker 2: be there. Also, by the way, I mean, you know,
- 26:18Speaker 2: obviously we're biased, but I think there is something about
- 26:21Speaker 2: that late show format that's not only very American, but
- 26:23Speaker 2: it's actually very entertaining. Like making topical jokes of the day, right?
- 26:27Speaker 2: Like that's, it's fun. Like it's, if you actually watch it,
- 26:32Speaker 2: it's fun when people are doing like a monologue. It's
- 26:36Speaker 2: about the day's topics. It's funny. It's what, you know,
- 26:40Speaker 2: it's lighthearted. I mean, I know the internet has replaced
- 26:42Speaker 2: a lot of that, but I'm just saying, I don't know.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I just don't get it. Keep it going.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's good variety. You get Music X come on.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a variety show.
- 26:51Speaker 1: You get some actors. You get to hear them talk.
- 26:54Speaker 1: All I can tell you guys is The Daily Show
- 26:57Speaker 1: will be on.
- 26:59Speaker 2: We're still kicking.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah, every week moving forward. Right?
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Until this episode of the podcast is going to crater
- 27:08Speaker 1: the whole You jinxed it. Yeah, they're going to be like,
- 27:10Speaker 1: we got too many negative comments about a writer that
- 27:13Speaker 1: nobody knows.
- 27:14Speaker 2: With a host that nobody knows.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I don't know. What's your IMDB star meter ring?
- 27:20Speaker 2: What is it?
- 27:22Speaker 1: I don't... Are you top 100?
- 27:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I don't even know what that is.
- 27:25Speaker 1: That's how high... That's big. That's big star level if
- 27:29Speaker 1: you don't even know. I know mine.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Jeez. Yours is a cardboard box.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yeah, my... My photo.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Alan, don't Google it. I don't want
- 27:39Speaker 2: to know. I don't want to know. I don't want
- 27:40Speaker 2: to know this thing. Don't do it. Don't do it.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I don't want to know. Let me see. You need
- 27:44Speaker 1: to have premium just so you know.
- 27:46Speaker 2: We don't have premium, so we can't afford it here.
- 27:48Speaker 1: We can't afford premium.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Don't do it.
- 27:51Speaker 1: But, I mean, look at these photos. This is a page.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Is it?
- 27:55Speaker 1: This is a page of a very high-ranked person. We're
- 28:00Speaker 1: seeing candids. We got posed portraits.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Look at these credits. Oof. Woo.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Oh, look at the ratings.
- 28:09Speaker 1: You're in Devil Wears Prada, too? Yeah. As yourself?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Oh, my God. That is a... Dude, that's the flex
- 28:16Speaker 1: of maybe all year. As yourself in Devil... Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Don't look down at your popcorn. You're going to miss it.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I'm there for like two seconds, so.
- 28:24Speaker 1: That's incredible. That's out in theaters now, right? What else
- 28:26Speaker 1: do we promote?
- 28:27Speaker 2: Nah, it's all right.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I feel like I forgot what I'm supposed to do.
- 28:30Speaker 2: You're supposed to talk about.
- 28:32Speaker 1: What else is happening?
- 28:33Speaker 2: So, Trump is... He's kind of getting involved in the
- 28:39Speaker 2: local Republican primary elections.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Right. Trump is getting upset because he's getting scorned by
- 28:50Speaker 1: certain Republicans and he wants revenge on them.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:53Speaker 1: So they have primaries and he wants to run someone
- 28:56Speaker 1: against them.
- 28:57Speaker 2: He's going out of his way to.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Right. Totally unnecessary. It's already a Republican who has the thing,
- 29:02Speaker 1: but he doesn't like the person.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 29:04Speaker 1: So he's running... to those people he dislikes.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah. And I, so what I don't understand is that
- 29:12Speaker 2: isn't this one, it's actually kind of surprising that he
- 29:18Speaker 2: is successfully getting these guys out because the people he's
- 29:21Speaker 2: getting out are quite respected Republican senators and congressmen, I think.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Right. So I don't know much about Bill Cassidy.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:32Speaker 1: He's a senator, I think.
- 29:34Speaker 2: But these are like These are like veterans, you know
- 29:37Speaker 2: what I mean? These aren't like, these guys have been
- 29:39Speaker 2: there a little while.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I mean, it does speak to the political process that
- 29:44Speaker 1: the incumbents rarely get primaried. Right. You know? Right. It
- 29:49Speaker 1: just rarely happens. So, in this case, Bill Cassidy, who's
- 29:53Speaker 1: the Louisiana Republican, who voted for Trump's impeachment. is going
- 30:00Speaker 1: to get replaced with a new MAGA forward. Yeah. Who
- 30:06Speaker 1: I don't even know who it is.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but again, I mean, my question is like, wouldn't
- 30:13Speaker 2: this make it harder for the Republicans to win the
- 30:18Speaker 2: actual election? Because if you have like a kookier guy... I.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Guess it depends. Like in Louisiana... It's very likely that
- 30:27Speaker 1: the Republicans are going to win no matter what. Because
- 30:29Speaker 1: it's not really a swing state. Right, right, right, right.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I don't know where Thomas Massey is. Oh, but he's...
- 30:36Speaker 1: He's Kentucky. He's Kentucky. So the Republican will probably win
- 30:39Speaker 1: that too. Right, right. So in those cases, I think it's...
- 30:43Speaker 1: But there were times... Remember they had that guy Roy Moore?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Was that Louisiana? Or Alabama?
- 30:48Speaker 2: It was Alabama. It was Alabama.
- 30:50Speaker 1: And they're like, Roy Moore.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I remember Charles Barkley was involved in that.
- 30:55Speaker 1: He was?
- 30:55Speaker 2: He was campaigning for the Democrats in Alabama.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And I think the Democrat then won. He didn't.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 31:02Speaker 1: It's always tough to get us off script on politics
- 31:04Speaker 1: stuff because we don't know.
- 31:05Speaker 2: We don't know anything.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Most of our day is spent Googling.
- 31:14Speaker 2: You know what, Alan? That was a mistake to even
- 31:15Speaker 2: bring up this topic. We tried.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go back to a cat falls off a
- 31:19Speaker 1: roof in a viral video. Oh, Daily Show and Tell.
- 31:24Speaker 1: This is our final segment. Where what we do is
- 31:27Speaker 1: we go over things that we've been watching, reading, or
- 31:33Speaker 1: listening to. Or something that's just been on your mind lately. Ronnie,
- 31:37Speaker 1: has anything been of interest?
- 31:40Speaker 2: I was in Syracuse, I think it was. New York
- 31:45Speaker 2: doing a stand-up show. And my thing is I'll go
- 31:47Speaker 2: to used bookstores in every... town i perform in just
- 31:52Speaker 2: to take a look around and you know i found
- 31:54Speaker 2: this book from 1992 that was about the presidential election
- 31:59Speaker 2: though the title is weird i think it's like quest
- 32:02Speaker 2: 1992 presidential election it's by the newsweek journalists so it's
- 32:07Speaker 2: written by a team of journalists um and but it's
- 32:10Speaker 2: written it like this goes back to you know the
- 32:13Speaker 2: skill set of writing because is written like a narrative. So,
- 32:18Speaker 2: it's entertaining. I mean, look, it's obviously very political, so
- 32:21Speaker 2: if you're not into politics, you probably think it's boring,
- 32:23Speaker 2: but the way it's written is not like an academic paper.
- 32:26Speaker 2: It's written like a narrative. They're telling the story of
- 32:29Speaker 2: the 1992 election, you know, Bush Sr. coming off of
- 32:33Speaker 2: the victory in Iraq, thinking he's riding high as an incumbent,
- 32:37Speaker 2: and getting, you know, upset, this upset victory, upset loss,
- 32:43Speaker 2: by Trump, Bill Clinton, a young upstart that no one
- 32:47Speaker 2: actually thought would win at the time. So I'm reading
- 32:49Speaker 2: this book and I'm reading the first few pages and
- 32:51Speaker 2: they're describing an America that's where people are unhappy at
- 32:55Speaker 2: both parties, where the populace thinks that there's not even
- 33:00Speaker 2: two parties. They just think it's the same party, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 2: doing essentially the same thing but they just seem to be,
- 33:08Speaker 2: they're just calling themselves two.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Different- Two factions of the business party.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 33:13Speaker 1: As Noam Chomsky would put it.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Yes. And they also are upset at the professional class
- 33:18Speaker 2: of kind of civil servant in America. They see these
- 33:22Speaker 2: people as not great leaders- and this upstart billionaire third-party
- 33:28Speaker 2: candidate who is immensely popular as an independent third-party candidate.
- 33:32Speaker 2: I'm reading the book, and the situation is laying out.
- 33:36Speaker 2: It's like, it might as well be 2024.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Honestly. So.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Things are just... They never really change that much, huh?
- 33:44Speaker 2: Yeah. So I think, you know, the perspective it gave me,
- 33:47Speaker 2: the book was something like, as unprecedented as we think
- 33:50Speaker 2: things are, I mean, they probably aren't, you know? Right.
- 33:53Speaker 1: There's always....
- 33:55Speaker 2: There's probably historical lessons we can draw upon, you know,
- 34:02Speaker 2: even though America is a very young country, 250 years
- 34:05Speaker 2: old this year. I think there's a lot that we
- 34:08Speaker 2: can draw upon in terms of making a better future
- 34:11Speaker 2: just based on our recent history, 1992.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Right, it is true. I mean, I was watching an
- 34:19Speaker 1: episode of Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher on YouTube. And
- 34:24Speaker 1: it was the same thing of like, I cannot believe
- 34:27Speaker 1: these are the same topics we're talking about 25, 30
- 34:31Speaker 1: years later. And it was like gender on college campuses.
- 34:37Speaker 1: It was even the stuff that you think is really.
- 34:39Speaker 2: So this episode was like 20 years old.
- 34:40Speaker 1: This was from like the late 90s or something. And
- 34:43Speaker 1: they're like, oh, we're doing like non-binary genders. And it
- 34:47Speaker 1: was like, what? I thought this was like fresh and hip.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:50Speaker 1: They've been talking about this for 35 years.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:54Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting. Like, you notice that they, you know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: sometimes people get on Hollywood for repackaging and rebooting.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:02Speaker 1: And it's like, we're rebooting, like, literally all the issues
- 35:05Speaker 1: we ever get upset about. It's like, we could go
- 35:07Speaker 1: back to the 1960s.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Yeah. And I wonder what the lesson is from that,
- 35:12Speaker 2: you know, because unfortunately, I haven't finished the book yet. So, I.
- 35:16Speaker 1: The lesson is probably that we never solve any problem.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we never solve anything. Or the lesson... Okay, how
- 35:21Speaker 2: about this for a lesson?
- 35:22Speaker 1: That things.
- 35:23Speaker 2: aren't as bad as they seem. Right.
- 35:25Speaker 1: They're hyped for engagement.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:28Speaker 1: And they've been doing that for a long time. Yes.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Just, you know, drink electrolytes, read books, vote properly, and.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Everything will be okay. And watch Eurovision. Watch Eurovision. All right. Okay. Well,
- 35:41Speaker 1: I think we've successfully navigated that. Only a few scandals
- 35:45Speaker 1: we had, right?
- 35:46Speaker 2: Hopefully, yeah, we might get this whole channel get taken
- 35:48Speaker 2: off YouTube.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Right. There were some rough spots, but it was mostly me.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And I think you'll weather the storm. All right. That's
- 35:55Speaker 1: all the time we have for the pre-cap. I'm David Angelo.
