Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right, Mark Hooper's with us, Markey you with us.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Yes, I can here find.
- 0:03Speaker 1: My sincere apologies about our equipment. Anyway, this business of
- 0:06Speaker 1: the RMA, do you get the sense that the government
- 0:10Speaker 1: is series about this or not?
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they are definitely serious. They put it into the
- 0:16Speaker 2: q Q three sorry, as you mentioned, so it's on
- 0:21Speaker 2: the cards to make some progress in the next ninety days.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I guess the concern was that that window is getting
- 0:29Speaker 2: quite narrow to get a full replacement of the RMA
- 0:32Speaker 2: done within the next or within the current parliamentary term.
- 0:36Speaker 2: So that's the broader concern. But I think that they're
- 0:41Speaker 2: going to still aim to do that. But I guess
- 0:44Speaker 2: what we saw from that data that came out the
- 0:47Speaker 2: MF released the monitoring data on local authorities and their
- 0:53Speaker 2: implementation of the RMA definitely highlighted the urgency that this
- 0:57Speaker 2: project has got and really tacing the RIMA is the
- 1:01Speaker 2: most meaningful long term economic reform the government could deliver
- 1:04Speaker 2: for us.
- 1:05Speaker 1: In that in that is that part of the problem,
- 1:07Speaker 1: because David Parker went away and sort of tried to
- 1:10Speaker 1: do the same thing and he came up with nine
- 1:11Speaker 1: hundred pages. Is it so gargantuan at least if they're
- 1:14Speaker 1: a bit slow doing it, you want to do it right.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, I guess the issue is that there's only
- 1:21Speaker 2: a short window of time available to get that into
- 1:24Speaker 2: the parliamentary process. So so that's that's a priority. But
- 1:31Speaker 2: I don't I don't think it's so much a case
- 1:33Speaker 2: of it haspening to be a gag intulant Is that
- 1:36Speaker 2: the word you use. I think it Actually what we
- 1:41Speaker 2: actually need is a relatively simple reform. We need good
- 1:45Speaker 2: direction that just you know, kind of restores the overall
- 1:48Speaker 2: balance of our full well beings around environment, economic, social
- 1:52Speaker 2: and cultural values. You know, we need a more enabling system,
- 1:56Speaker 2: we need good protection of property rights, and we need
- 1:58Speaker 2: to maintain a good democratic process around us.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So you can't argue with that, can you? Mark listener?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Appreciate your getting up early for us, although you're probably
- 2:05Speaker 1: already up. You're not in therey, are you.
- 2:07Speaker 2: By the way, I mentioned in Wellington at the moment,
- 2:10Speaker 2: Primary Industry summits on and we had early great awards
- 2:13Speaker 2: night last night.
- 2:15Speaker 1: All right, Well I hope, yeah, I hope you had
- 2:17Speaker 1: a good time and well done for getting up early
- 2:18Speaker 1: for us. Appreciate it very much.
