- 0:06Speaker 1: special guests. I want him to sing a little something
- 0:10Speaker 1: before I introduce you. By the way, I wanted to
- 0:14Speaker 1: do a plan words. I kept calling, calling, not you,
- 0:17Speaker 1: but your publicists, begging, pleading, come on, let's make it happen.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Let's get October in the studio. Damn, I just said to.
- 0:28Speaker 2: And you should have just called me.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I didn't know you could do that. I didn't start
- 0:32Speaker 1: into the DM was like that, Start making your ramen.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Start making this ramen. This is I actually call this
- 1:01Speaker 2: dish the South Bend Struggles. I'm from South in Indiana,
- 1:04Speaker 2: so always good old before I open it, and always
- 1:09Speaker 2: breaking in fours?
- 1:11Speaker 1: Does there have to be fours or you just break
- 1:13Speaker 1: it up?
- 1:13Speaker 2: I have OCD has to be eating not three years
- 1:16Speaker 2: or it can be two. But then I feel like,
- 1:18Speaker 2: are you serious?
- 1:19Speaker 3: You really have OCD A little bit, not like crazy
- 1:22Speaker 3: like I have to touch microphones or something like fourteen times,
- 1:25Speaker 3: but not like that, not that bad, but you know,
- 1:29Speaker 3: just you know that.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Type of stuff. Poor. Then oh yeah, this is yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 2: this is the bully that we're gonna use for that.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I was gonna have you on these, but
- 1:36Speaker 1: I don't want you to burn your fingertails.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for sure. You know that works. That works.
- 1:41Speaker 2: You've got to have that up.
- 1:42Speaker 1: In there, and you gotta make two.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, that's right.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You're cooking for you and yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 2: That's true. I'm used to nobody wanting to eating it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Huh.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I set them, used to nobody wanting to eat.
- 1:57Speaker 1: This ramen that you may how scary.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Son. Only my son's like, oh my god, I love it.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Everybody else is just I don't know how old is
- 2:06Speaker 2: your son?
- 2:07Speaker 1: Eight?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Okay, but he's bouchie, so I'm surprised that he wants
- 2:10Speaker 2: to eat it.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Okay. I feel like the younger kids, they believe in you,
- 2:14Speaker 1: like you're a superhero no matter what you make.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah that's very true, you know, but I like it.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I like it. It's water. I'm actually gonna need a
- 2:25Speaker 2: little bit more, but more, Yeah for sure, Oh no,
- 2:28Speaker 2: you're gonna need it, trust me.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Actually I am terrified.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Trust you're gonna need more.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Okay, okay, all right, all right, so.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Then that go to the microwave. I don't do it
- 2:41Speaker 2: on the I don't do it on the stove. I
- 2:43Speaker 2: don't put anything in it, nothing like that. Obviously, put
- 2:46Speaker 2: in the microwave, and I do it for dope. Wait wait,
- 2:52Speaker 2: wait wait, I do it for ten minutes, ten minutes,
- 2:57Speaker 2: ten minutes. I gotta hit this thirty second button a
- 2:59Speaker 2: few times.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It doesn't explode in the microwave, but that heat.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Nope.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Do you put a lid on yours at home?
- 3:08Speaker 2: No?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Really, ten minutes, that's gonna be mush for sure.
- 3:14Speaker 2: No, well it's not really, No, it won't be. It's
- 3:18Speaker 2: the it's the cheese part that makes everybody look at
- 3:21Speaker 2: it and be like really, and I'm just like, no,
- 3:23Speaker 2: it's it's melted.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Will happened to you?
- 3:26Speaker 2: One day?
- 3:26Speaker 1: You put it in too long? And you said, hmm,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I like.
- 3:28Speaker 2: This, that might have been. That might have been that actually,
- 3:33Speaker 2: that actually might have been I might have put it in.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Chel was like, oh for I forgot, and I was like, oh.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You were like, it's the last pack of ramens. So
- 3:39Speaker 1: I guess I'm just gonna work with it.
- 3:41Speaker 2: And also, I was a big fan of chicken noodle
- 3:43Speaker 2: soup when I was a kid. I would always eat
- 3:45Speaker 2: it like that. So when other people would make me ramen.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'm like, these noodles aren't done, They're not Oh you
- 3:51Speaker 1: want this to be soup.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I want no, I don't want to be soup. I
- 3:54Speaker 2: want the noodle to be the consistency of a chicken
- 3:56Speaker 2: noodle soup that has to be a salt like.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Think I've ate a lot of chicken noodle soup. I
- 4:02Speaker 1: barely remember what chicken noodle soup.
- 4:04Speaker 2: See.
- 4:05Speaker 1: But I'm also Jamaican, and Jamaicans they make everything from scratch.
- 4:10Speaker 1: So you know, my mom make the dumplings, the whole
- 4:13Speaker 1: and everything. I don't know if I've ever had it
- 4:15Speaker 1: really in the can see, I'm.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Gonna take you, you know, take you to a place
- 4:19Speaker 2: you need to be with the noodles. You know what
- 4:20Speaker 2: I'm saying. I got you.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So tell everybody what else is going in this ramen dish.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Okay, So in this South Bend struggle, I put butter
- 4:30Speaker 2: in it, just you know, softening the flavor, all that
- 4:33Speaker 2: kind of stuff. You know. I gotta put the chicken
- 4:35Speaker 2: pack in there that comes with it, pepper, some seasoned salt, lowries.
- 4:40Speaker 1: In addition to the seasoning pack, in.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Addition to garlic, salt, or you can do garlic powder
- 4:47Speaker 2: if you want, and sometimes I do both. So you
- 4:50Speaker 2: got And then the last ingredient is mozzarella cheese.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And where does the butter come in?
- 4:55Speaker 2: The butter comes in once I take the noodles out
- 4:59Speaker 2: add the cheese.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I am afraid and inspired by this ramen, just just
- 5:06Speaker 1: when you thought ramen couldn't get any worse, you know,
- 5:10Speaker 1: But hopefully, hopefully this makes it in my top because
- 5:13Speaker 1: I told you earlier, there's like I've had enough ramen
- 5:16Speaker 1: to be able to you know, I'm hoping you yea
- 5:19Speaker 1: last so because I've had someone do ramen and I
- 5:22Speaker 1: literally ended like this is the worst ramen in the
- 5:24Speaker 1: history for rameny, but just so much onions.
- 5:28Speaker 2: It was oh no, no, yeah, I've heard of other
- 5:32Speaker 2: things getting added to ramen and all that kind of stuff,
- 5:34Speaker 2: but I don't know jalapenos. I've never done that, but
- 5:37Speaker 2: that that wouldn't bother me. I don't think. I'm trying
- 5:39Speaker 2: to think if that would. I like the way mine is.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's just set just right for me.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Okay, okay, And.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I forgot actually one ingredient, but it's okay, what is it?
- 5:47Speaker 2: It was a parsley flakes I like color on it.
- 5:50Speaker 1: You know what I'm into?
- 5:51Speaker 2: Now? Fresh?
- 5:53Speaker 1: Do you do fresh?
- 5:54Speaker 2: I'm lazy that it will.
- 5:56Speaker 1: It will change your life and it lasted your fridge
- 5:58Speaker 1: for a while, as long as you keep it dry.
- 6:00Speaker 1: But I don't get like fresh, Dell fresh, oregano, fresh, parsley,
- 6:04Speaker 1: all of it. And then like you know when you
- 6:06Speaker 1: shaw tell your butter and garlic. Really, I promise you
- 6:09Speaker 1: changes the game.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It was.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I learned it from this show.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Maybe it's soothing to you, Just no, I.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Learned it from this show. One of the guests on
- 6:16Speaker 1: here cooked with it, and she was like, it was
- 6:18Speaker 1: the fresh ingredients that made it taste different. I need
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'll be learning tips, you know, just be teaching me
- 6:24Speaker 1: how to cook.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Okay, I need to try it.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna try this mozzarella. May go home and end
- 6:28Speaker 1: up eating this for a couple of days because I
- 6:30Speaker 1: like it. Yeah, I don't think I will, because this
- 6:33Speaker 1: seems like it's gonna be very much. I like geese.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I don't know. I love mozzarella cheese on like spaghetti,
- 6:42Speaker 1: like a lot of it.
- 6:43Speaker 2: It'll be in your top five at least.
- 6:45Speaker 1: We don't see. We don't see. I don't even think
- 6:48Speaker 1: we need a second bowl. We could share your bowl.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You just pour some a it'll be enough.
- 6:54Speaker 2: The noodles will be puffy enough. That's where you want
- 6:55Speaker 2: to get it too, all.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, bring it on out, bring it all out,
- 6:59Speaker 1: bring them out, bring them mouth. Oh it's hot, do.
- 7:04Speaker 2: That thing hot? Yeah. See, at this point you might
- 7:11Speaker 2: say they're either perfect or they're like or they're a
- 7:15Speaker 2: little overcooked, right or maybe not? So what look how
- 7:18Speaker 2: they look now? Right? So people would eat them like that?
- 7:20Speaker 1: Okay, I was expecting more mush.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Okay, no, no, no, but remember I'm about to put it
- 7:25Speaker 2: back in there for another ten what why? Yeah, that's
- 7:29Speaker 2: how I cook it. I cook it for twenty minutes.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's twenty minute, ramin.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Are you joking?
- 7:33Speaker 2: I swear that's what I was saying. I told you so,
- 7:39Speaker 2: I swear to you.
- 7:40Speaker 1: All right, So with what?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Yeah? So with this? Now, take some butter, put it
- 7:46Speaker 2: up in there. I'll let it, but I put it
- 7:48Speaker 2: in there now. Sorry, so I can put the butter
- 7:50Speaker 2: in there, it'll mouth whatever.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Wait a minute pause. You cooked it for ten minutes? Yeah, okay,
- 7:56Speaker 1: Now you're saying that you're gonna do what you do.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna do what I do. Put not all the stuff.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Montrelle is the last thing, okay, and then I'm gonna
- 8:04Speaker 2: put it back in there for ten.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Oh, it's like a whole go ahead, educate used. This
- 8:09Speaker 1: will be the most memorable. We're gonna call this episode
- 8:12Speaker 1: the longest ramen of your life. You can't be starving
- 8:16Speaker 1: and you go to October's house and he'd be like,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna cook you some rum and you I'm telling
- 8:21Speaker 1: you'll be better. I'll make a spaghetti.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I'm no man.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Okay, let's see this. Okay, put the butter in.
- 8:27Speaker 2: I put the butter in.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Starting to look mushy. Okay, no, it's not cloudy.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Put your chicken. Oh yes, definitely cloudy. Put your chicken
- 8:34Speaker 2: pack in there, all right? And after that, some pepper.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I'll throw some pepper in there now, okay, just a
- 8:41Speaker 2: little bit, though, I'll put some more. It comes back out.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Start this up, get it right, get it even. You know.
- 8:51Speaker 1: You're hilarious.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Oh I love making this. This is so fun for me.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I love it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: I think you like everyone's reaction.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Because I don't cook at home, no cooking home. I
- 9:00Speaker 2: took it out every day.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You know what it's. But what there's so many things.
- 9:09Speaker 1: You probably tried that one to say, Man, I don't
- 9:11Speaker 1: belong in a kitchen.
- 9:13Speaker 2: No, no, no, I no I cooked. I just don't cook
- 9:16Speaker 2: on the stove a lot. I'll make ramen, boiled eggs,
- 9:21Speaker 2: stuff like that, or scrambled eggs, something like that on
- 9:23Speaker 2: the stove. After that, I don't do nothing. No, you
- 9:25Speaker 2: don't see me cooking pasta. I'll get on the grill though. Okay, okay,
- 9:30Speaker 2: I'm outside grill.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Let's see how well you see it though, because I
- 9:34Speaker 1: feel like I feel like it. Whatever you make it
- 9:37Speaker 1: home could be very salty.
- 9:38Speaker 2: No, not at all, you would think so, because we
- 9:42Speaker 2: have the chicken pack in there added some lowries.
- 9:46Speaker 1: You were very very nice with the lorry.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Absolutely, you don't want to You don't want to overdo it.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Don't love overseason like a crazy person. But my food
- 9:56Speaker 1: tastes good. But I'll tell you this. My daughter, who's three,
- 10:02Speaker 1: she's been every time I cook, she runs up and
- 10:04Speaker 1: she'll go do do do do, and she'll grab a
- 10:06Speaker 1: seasoning and run off to her little kitchen. And the
- 10:09Speaker 1: other day she took the all of the lorries like
- 10:12Speaker 1: dump the whole thing in her little season She must
- 10:15Speaker 1: think all I do is play with seasonings all day,
- 10:17Speaker 1: because all she does is run up. She grabs her
- 10:19Speaker 1: little stool and just steal seasonings.
- 10:21Speaker 2: She gets to watch you cook. I'll make all these
- 10:23Speaker 2: great dishes, you know what I'm saying.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah. The other day she's like, I'm cooking for my
- 10:27Speaker 1: for Kingston.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I said, oh, cooking for Kingston. Who's Kingston? Exactly?
- 10:33Speaker 1: The neighbor next.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Door, like a hole. So I've added the seasonings.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Okay, no mozzarella, guys.
- 10:39Speaker 2: No mozzarella. So I've added the butter and the chicken pack,
- 10:43Speaker 2: the garlic, garlic powder, some little bit of garlic salt,
- 10:47Speaker 2: some lowries, and some pepper, which I'll add some more
- 10:49Speaker 2: pepper in a minute. And now I'm gonna put it
- 10:52Speaker 2: back in the microwave. I know Jamie is back there rolling,
- 10:57Speaker 2: and I'm gonna add it another ten minutes to it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: This is insane.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Oh. You're gonna love it. I absolutely love it.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You're gonna be like, oh my god, I have to
- 11:10Speaker 2: make this once a week, once a week.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Once a week, I could cook a whole chicken meal.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So take me back to what was going on during
- 11:19Speaker 1: this twenty minute ramen?
- 11:21Speaker 2: Oh, well, you know it was. It was a struggle obviously.
- 11:25Speaker 2: You know, now I'm signed to death Row, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 2: shout out to Snoop Dogg, of course, and you know
- 11:30Speaker 2: I'm doing all this stuff now, But before all that,
- 11:32Speaker 2: it was that struggle, like every other artist, man just selling.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I was selling CDs out out of this van that
- 11:38Speaker 2: me and my boy used to drive called Big Shirley.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So he used to drive that and pass out CD
- 11:42Speaker 2: Shout out to DeMarco Black.
- 11:45Speaker 1: This was this was when CDs people had CD players, right.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Absolutely, yeah, I mean you're taking out the deck you
- 11:52Speaker 2: know what was it, the Kinwood deck man? Yeah, yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 2: for sure.
- 11:55Speaker 1: So we're right this time. I mean, this is the
- 12:00Speaker 1: you know, you're fifteen taking back to fifteen year old.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Fifteen year old me trying to figure it out, trying
- 12:04Speaker 2: to write and everything, and you know, I'm in and
- 12:07Speaker 2: out of jobs or whatnot, just trying to find out
- 12:09Speaker 2: which job was the right job for me. And I
- 12:11Speaker 2: had three jobs at one time. I was detailing cars,
- 12:15Speaker 2: I was I was trying to sell cars at one point,
- 12:18Speaker 2: and then I was working at Steak and Shake at
- 12:20Speaker 2: the same time. So I was trying to find.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Myself while going to high school all of this.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Absolutely, it was a hustler and you had dreams.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I had dreams I needed. I always had
- 12:29Speaker 2: that drive to get you know, get to it and
- 12:31Speaker 2: get after it. So you know, I'm at home trying
- 12:34Speaker 2: to figure it out, what's the next step, trying to
- 12:37Speaker 2: make it. No, I was only making what steaking shake?
- 12:39Speaker 2: I was getting paid like what, three four hundred dollars.
- 12:41Speaker 2: I thought I was bawling every week, you know, So
- 12:43Speaker 2: I was like, hell, yeah, you know. But in the
- 12:46Speaker 2: midst of that, I'm hungry. I'm like, oh, gon, make
- 12:47Speaker 2: me some ramen. And I don't know where along the
- 12:50Speaker 2: lines where I started making it for twenty minutes. Maybe
- 12:52Speaker 2: I forgot about it at one point, but I just
- 12:55Speaker 2: really enjoyed it. And I was like, you know, this
- 12:58Speaker 2: reminds me of chicken noodle soup. I was a chicken
- 13:00Speaker 2: noodle soup head when I was a kid, So I
- 13:02Speaker 2: like the consistency of the noodle pause.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you gotta pause because I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm
- 13:07Speaker 1: trying not to judge you. I'm praying to Jesus that
- 13:10Speaker 1: are we got two seconds? Good pause timing. Yes, we be
- 13:13Speaker 1: about to eat. We're about to eat some mashed potatoes
- 13:16Speaker 1: mixed with mozzarella and cheese.
- 13:18Speaker 2: All right, let's go. It's so good.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna judge it really hard, guys, and keep it
- 13:22Speaker 1: all the way real.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But we're not done yet. We still have to put
- 13:24Speaker 2: stuff on it. You think it'd be done all the
- 13:27Speaker 2: way now, all the noodles are. I could have made
- 13:30Speaker 2: it better.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I can't wait to see this mashed potatoes.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It's not it's like it's almost like a pasta. So
- 13:40Speaker 2: you see how it still has a little bit of
- 13:42Speaker 2: water in it. It's supposed to be like that because
- 13:43Speaker 2: if it was dried out, it'll been messed up.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And no, god, no, we can't. We would never eat.
- 13:49Speaker 1: We would never eat. Did you ever make this for
- 13:51Speaker 1: Snoop Dogg?
- 13:52Speaker 2: No, but I think he would really enjoy it. Matter
- 13:55Speaker 2: of fact, I'm think I would make it for him.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I think, and I'm record it. Send it to me, Yes,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I would, please.
- 14:04Speaker 2: I would close your microwave. But it's really hot now
- 14:08Speaker 2: it's been running for a long time.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Is it really that hot?
- 14:11Speaker 2: No, No, it's fine, it's fine.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Okay, now let's just see it. Let's see if there's
- 14:16Speaker 1: a really you're hilarious, that's like a twenty dollars microwave too,
- 14:21Speaker 1: Probably couldn't.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Let's go next door get her, get her a new microwave.
- 14:24Speaker 2: All right, so it's look, I mean the consistency of
- 14:26Speaker 2: a Look at the noodle. Now it's soft, like.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't need to you don't need teeth. You
- 14:31Speaker 1: don't need teeth. Break out the straws. Everybody, your grandparents,
- 14:35Speaker 1: get your great grandparents could eat this dish.
- 14:37Speaker 2: There you go.
- 14:38Speaker 1: If you ever have a jaw break, this is the meal.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Okay, here we go this and now we want to
- 14:47Speaker 2: we want to finish it off. Okay, first off, I
- 14:49Speaker 2: did say that I was gonna add a little bit
- 14:51Speaker 2: more pepper. That's the only thing.
- 14:52Speaker 1: You don't even sample to see it this season.
- 14:55Speaker 2: No, no, no, I don't need to know. I already know.
- 14:57Speaker 2: It's pure perfection. Okay, pure.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I can't wait to try this mashed potatoes and cheese. Okay,
- 15:07Speaker 1: here we go. Let's see.
- 15:10Speaker 2: It depends on how much cheese you want, but I
- 15:14Speaker 2: would probably go let's see, I think that's.
- 15:16Speaker 1: All the cheesey doing Okay, let's see. Look the cheese
- 15:20Speaker 1: melts it right into the gravy.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Okay, actually no, this is not enough cheese for me.
- 15:32Speaker 2: This not for me. I want you to make it
- 15:33Speaker 2: how I would make it. Yeah.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, we want to eat it the way you would
- 15:36Speaker 1: because we're gonna see if this will ever make it
- 15:39Speaker 1: into the top thirty all time.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I'm telling you it's gonna make it. It's gonna make it. Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 2: to see I need it just a little bit cheesier
- 15:47Speaker 2: I needed to. Yeah that should be good. Oh yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 2: this is just gonna be amazing. I mean, look at it.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You could really serve this, like.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I feel like you was back. They're plotting on how
- 16:01Speaker 1: to uh make the worst eating while broke dish, and
- 16:05Speaker 1: he was like, I'm going to make twenty minute ramen
- 16:07Speaker 1: with some cheese.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Oh definitely not.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I mean it looks gooey. It looks like some really
- 16:12Speaker 1: gooey mashed potatoes. Now see yeah, I'm joking. It looks
- 16:16Speaker 1: like very it's gonna be it's I'm surprised you're using
- 16:20Speaker 1: a fork and out of spoon.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah, you use a fork. Look at the cheese on
- 16:24Speaker 2: the fork.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Look you serve me up here?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yeah, come on, get some of that. Get some of
- 16:29Speaker 2: that that.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Oh no, that's I want to get the h That's fine.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I'm Jamaican. Okay, wet cow stomachs and tails.
- 16:36Speaker 2: It's a cow stom mix and tails. Look at the cheese.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Look at that. Just absolutely beautiful. I'll just I'll just
- 16:43Speaker 2: put a little bit in there just so you can.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah, hook me up, I eat hook you Okay, Okay,
- 16:50Speaker 1: that's enough. That's enough of your I'll tell you this.
- 16:53Speaker 1: It looks good.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Thank you. See but wen't see that's a lot of
- 16:57Speaker 2: cheese though. Here.
- 16:58Speaker 1: You can have this fork. I'll take that.
- 17:00Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, yeah, yeah, yeah, you take
- 17:01Speaker 2: that for it because you have to.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, looks guys presentation.
- 17:09Speaker 3: You know.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I like the I do agree. You could have done
- 17:12Speaker 1: the parsley on top.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah, the party on top. Yeah yeah, yeah, the parsley
- 17:15Speaker 2: on top really adds the color. It's not that bad,
- 17:18Speaker 2: is it? Go ahead say exactly, you're right, it's.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Not that great.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Serve this up to snoop please, no, I'm telling you this.
- 17:29Speaker 2: This got me through.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, this is a one and done. If all
- 17:33Speaker 1: start one and done, this is like what happens when
- 17:38Speaker 1: you don't cook at home. All right, So okay, so
- 17:52Speaker 1: you're doing this music on the side. What was the
- 17:55Speaker 1: original inspiration? When did you start to realize you wanted
- 17:58Speaker 1: to pursue music.
- 18:00Speaker 2: I was trying to get my writing right at fifteen,
- 18:04Speaker 2: sixteen seventeen. I was still working, wasn't really going in
- 18:07Speaker 2: like that. But when I turned eighteen, I was like,
- 18:09Speaker 2: I think I really want to do this. Started going
- 18:12Speaker 2: to my friend's house, my friend Travis's house. I started
- 18:15Speaker 2: doing fruity loops. It was a program that you make beats,
- 18:19Speaker 2: so I didn't even really want to sing that much.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I was just like, man, I can start making beats.
- 18:23Speaker 2: I want to be like Timblin, you know, stuff like that,
- 18:26Speaker 2: and then started to sing. And then I saw on TV.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I actually came over over Travis's house and it messed
- 18:34Speaker 2: me up because he was like, oh man, look it's
- 18:35Speaker 2: this light skined do with braids just like you. Man,
- 18:37Speaker 2: killing it on TV is killing you. I'm a competitive person.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Ye yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Then I started to sing even more so that was
- 18:44Speaker 2: tray songs.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, okay, okay.
- 18:47Speaker 2: I think it was just got to make it or something. Man,
- 18:49Speaker 2: it might have dropped.
- 18:49Speaker 1: So okay, so you start doing music, you graduate high school,
- 18:53Speaker 1: what's your next big play?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Next big play is trying to find a way into
- 18:59Speaker 2: the music industry. I didn't know. I didn't know what
- 19:02Speaker 2: to do. I just knew the slang CDs and go
- 19:04Speaker 2: to bars and try to do little shows, you know, like, oh,
- 19:07Speaker 2: sing one song, not karaoke or anything like that. I
- 19:10Speaker 2: never liked karaoke, but I just wanted to go sing
- 19:12Speaker 2: in front of a crowd and just see how that felt.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And you're all doing this still in Indiana.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, just hitting different bars in Indiana.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, and your parents are now onto you. Nope,
- 19:22Speaker 1: they're not onto you. You're keeping the seagrut.
- 19:24Speaker 2: No, they just think I'm going to hang out with
- 19:25Speaker 2: my friends.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I said, you have siblings, anybody in the family know
- 19:28Speaker 1: what's going on.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Maybe two, But they were on they were doing other stuff,
- 19:33Speaker 2: so I didn't. They didn't pay no attention to her, Like, yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 2: you're just doing whatever.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Is there a reason why you weren't telling anybody?
- 19:38Speaker 2: No, I just I don't know. I just didn't tell anybody.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I didn't think I was that good like that. So
- 19:42Speaker 2: I was like, I don't know if I want to
- 19:43Speaker 2: do it or you know. It wasn't until, like I said,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I was eighteen where I was like, maybe I really
- 19:47Speaker 2: should do this, but I don't know yet. I don't
- 19:49Speaker 2: want to tell anybody and get every because then they
- 19:51Speaker 2: want to come to the shows. And it wasn't. Then
- 19:53Speaker 2: it makes me nervous at that point, I'm nervous, Nelly.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But now you're approaching the bars yourself.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, with other friends that are older. So I'm getting
- 20:02Speaker 2: into these bars and doing that. But you know, bar
- 20:05Speaker 2: was cool with us and all that kind of stuff.
- 20:07Speaker 1: So you start performing. When do you start to really
- 20:11Speaker 1: believe in yourself?
- 20:13Speaker 2: Probably twenty twenty one something like that.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Was there something in particular that happened that made you go, oh,
- 20:20Speaker 1: I think I have something here.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I don't. I can't remember. I don't think so. I
- 20:24Speaker 2: think I was just I think I just started to
- 20:27Speaker 2: progress a little bit more and started to meet more people.
- 20:29Speaker 2: And the more people I met, I was like, oh, well,
- 20:32Speaker 2: they like it. This person likes it, and he's close
- 20:34Speaker 2: to this guy that's five degrees of separation from that guy.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Maybe I should keep going. Yeah, okay, And then that
- 20:39Speaker 2: just kept going from there, and I still started to
- 20:41Speaker 2: meet different people, my boy Mike Letter, which I wrote
- 20:44Speaker 2: several songs with or whatnot. So you know, I just
- 20:49Speaker 2: it was just the constant going and finding different people
- 20:52Speaker 2: to talk to.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And then while all this is going on, you're still
- 20:55Speaker 1: working multiple jobs.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yep, I'm still working multiple jobs. Until jeez, when
- 21:01Speaker 2: was that? That was? Time has gone by so fast?
- 21:06Speaker 2: Because that was what I was fifteen. That might have
- 21:08Speaker 2: been two thousand and eight, so we're talking maybe two
- 21:11Speaker 2: thousand and fourteen or something like that. I don't know,
- 21:14Speaker 2: it's time's been going by so fast. And I think
- 21:16Speaker 2: about I never sat here and thought about how long
- 21:19Speaker 2: it's been since I actually started.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Since you actually started, or when do you started to
- 21:23Speaker 1: like actually one hundred percent go into.
- 21:26Speaker 2: No, since I just started writing, like at fifteen and
- 21:28Speaker 2: being like, whoa, it's been a minute.
- 21:30Speaker 1: That's a long time. But even at fifteen, you don't
- 21:33Speaker 1: see the average fifteen year olds saying, Okay, I'm going
- 21:35Speaker 1: to start writing songs unless they kind of call a
- 21:38Speaker 1: cliffhanger of someone else's story, like oh, you can make money,
- 21:42Speaker 1: especially it seems like money.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Oh. Star Kelly R. Kelly was the one that really
- 21:46Speaker 2: pushed me to like do me like I was just
- 21:47Speaker 2: his writing style was cold.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It was amazing, It was amazing. I remember I remember
- 21:52Speaker 1: seeing some of his music going. I had never seen
- 21:55Speaker 1: anything like it before. It's really the Isley Brothers. I
- 21:58Speaker 1: was a little late, obviously, I'm yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 2: It was.
- 22:00Speaker 1: It was when they did that, I was like, oh shit, yeah,
- 22:04Speaker 1: this musical on wheels is crazy. It's crazy good. Still
- 22:09Speaker 1: have the hooks in my head. Okay, okay, So you
- 22:12Speaker 1: see that you're getting inspired, you're pursuing writing and your
- 22:16Speaker 1: echine towards the promised land in towards it. Yeah, echine
- 22:20Speaker 1: towards it.
- 22:21Speaker 2: The term is step forward eight steps back.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, So give me an example of a four step
- 22:26Speaker 1: four like where you think you touched the land and
- 22:30Speaker 1: then landed right back.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Mmmm. That would have to be I want to say.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I want to say, I don't know what year it was,
- 22:44Speaker 2: but it might Oh no, it might have been like
- 22:46Speaker 2: two thousand and eight, two thousand and nine, something like that.
- 22:50Speaker 2: The years are all bunched up, so I probably got
- 22:52Speaker 2: those wrong anyway, But whatever. I was with one of
- 22:55Speaker 2: my friends, Mike Letter, who lives in Miami where kicking
- 22:58Speaker 2: and we end up meeting in a circle who made
- 23:01Speaker 2: the bad Boy song, the you know, the off of
- 23:03Speaker 2: Cops or whatnot. And I'm just hanging around all these
- 23:06Speaker 2: people producers like d Nad which was you know, with
- 23:09Speaker 2: with other with other artists, and we got to call
- 23:13Speaker 2: that we're gonna go to Lenny kraviatt studio in Miami.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So I'm like that. It was the guy that works
- 23:18Speaker 2: with Lenny. I'm like, this is it. You know, we
- 23:20Speaker 2: we got all our songs, Like me and Mike are
- 23:23Speaker 2: gathering all these songs in a hard drive, like, no,
- 23:25Speaker 2: speck this one out. We're just like, no, he's gonna
- 23:27Speaker 2: love this one. He's gonna love this one. He's gonna
- 23:28Speaker 2: love this one. And we went there and the dude
- 23:31Speaker 2: was like, yeah, you got some potential, but you know,
- 23:35Speaker 2: you're like you might be like five to ten years off.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I'm like, to get on now.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Were you going over there to like sell him your
- 23:43Speaker 1: songs or to.
- 23:46Speaker 2: To get a song to Lenny and to get a deal.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we get signed and be on a ten years.
- 23:51Speaker 1: That's that's not the response you're looking for.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I got that within the same week. Another person that
- 23:57Speaker 2: was working I think for Bad boy. At the time,
- 24:00Speaker 2: she said the same thing. She was like, yeah, I
- 24:01Speaker 2: think he needs development and it's going to be at
- 24:03Speaker 2: least ten years.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And I'm like Jesus, and how many years in the
- 24:08Speaker 1: game were you at that point? You were probably almost ten,
- 24:11Speaker 1: right at that point, No, fifteen, at least seven, right,
- 24:16Speaker 1: something like that. Seven Damn? Could you imagine seven years
- 24:19Speaker 1: and be like I got another ten to go?
- 24:20Speaker 2: Oh, I'm like yo, I'm like, man, this is not it.
- 24:23Speaker 2: So I just crashed back all over again. Go back home,
- 24:27Speaker 2: go chill all the way back to it. Yeah, go
- 24:28Speaker 2: all the way back to Indiana, go back, get a job, restart.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Damn. I stopped that really knocked the going out yourself.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I stopped doing music for a while. Stop
- 24:37Speaker 2: doing music for man.
- 24:38Speaker 1: You know, my little brother is a comic. But I
- 24:42Speaker 1: remember when he first started. I said to Ego, you
- 24:45Speaker 1: got to choose your ten. Even though it sounds like
- 24:47Speaker 1: you chose your ten, but I noticed everybody industry like
- 24:51Speaker 1: they had to do their ten.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Yeah they said ten thousand hours.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, we're ten thousand hours. Yeah, that's that's
- 24:57Speaker 1: a better term. But I remember Gabby Wilson, remember her,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I remember when she was a little girl. She's coming
- 25:05Speaker 1: to our next studio, and she was like seven or eight,
- 25:10Speaker 1: and she was so talented, and nobody knew what to
- 25:13Speaker 1: do with her, and she kept coming back. And then
- 25:15Speaker 1: one day I turn on the TV and there she is.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I'm like, what the heck? But it took her, like
- 25:19Speaker 1: the animal, twenty years. But you don't know that it
- 25:22Speaker 1: takes that long. So you go all the way back.
- 25:26Speaker 1: They knocked the one out of your cell. What makes
- 25:29Speaker 1: you pick up again?
- 25:32Speaker 2: Just not wanting to struggle, not wanting to do the
- 25:35Speaker 2: job anymore. It got to the point where I wasn't
- 25:38Speaker 2: keeping a job very long because I just hated it.
- 25:41Speaker 2: And I was like, dude, I don't want to do
- 25:42Speaker 2: this shit.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Do you think in the back of your mind you
- 25:44Speaker 1: got a taste of the promis Land? You got so
- 25:46Speaker 1: close that you couldn't like shake it.
- 25:49Speaker 2: And you know, went back at it again after a
- 25:51Speaker 2: couple of years or something like that.
- 25:53Speaker 1: A couple of years.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like I was listening to music and
- 25:55Speaker 2: still studying.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, were you still playing in the studio,
- 25:58Speaker 1: like still coming up with music or where.
- 26:00Speaker 2: You just a little bit a little bit. But as
- 26:02Speaker 2: far as like me going full in. I'll knock the
- 26:04Speaker 2: wind out of.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Them, damn. Okay, so you start to get back up.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I like this this the hero is Yeah, of course, okay,
- 26:11Speaker 1: everyone does that. Okay, so you took a step back, Okay,
- 26:14Speaker 1: you come back. What brings you completely out of the closet?
- 26:18Speaker 1: Besides you hate the job?
- 26:20Speaker 2: Uh? I just felt like, man, so many great R
- 26:25Speaker 2: and B artists, and I really wanted to be a
- 26:26Speaker 2: part of that story of music, like having my name
- 26:29Speaker 2: in that. You know. I don't want to be better
- 26:31Speaker 2: than them or nothing like that. I just wanted to
- 26:33Speaker 2: be I'm competitive, yes.
- 26:35Speaker 1: But I like your competitive space.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no for yeah, it's bad, but you know,
- 26:39Speaker 2: I just want to be there. I want my name
- 26:41Speaker 2: somewhere in that in that list, you know, for for
- 26:44Speaker 2: R and B or for any genre really. So I
- 26:47Speaker 2: just it was just the yearning of it. I And
- 26:49Speaker 2: like I said, I didn't want to work any regular
- 26:51Speaker 2: job anymore. I had great friends around me, like, no, man,
- 26:54Speaker 2: you should really still do. They're playing my music in
- 26:56Speaker 2: their cars and I'm just like, oh, I stop playing
- 26:58Speaker 2: this ship like I'm not gonna get on and it's over. YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 27:01Speaker 2: all that shit. So what you know, end up leading
- 27:04Speaker 2: to me going into truck driving school.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Truck driving school.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I was about to be a truck driver.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Oh my god, this.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Was now, this was two thousand dollars.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Could you imagine if you actually didn't come back, it'd
- 27:16Speaker 1: be a waste of great talent behind the wheel.
- 27:19Speaker 2: I'd be eating cheetos and ramen mozzarella. Oh god, just
- 27:23Speaker 2: chewing away.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Oh my god, driving Oh my god, thank god. I hope.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Well you still eat mozzarella ramen.
- 27:29Speaker 2: So yeah, I always gotta go back.
- 27:32Speaker 1: No you don't. If there's one thing you ain't gotta do,
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's go back to mozzarella. Twenty minute ramen, go back,
- 27:40Speaker 1: go back. All right, so you come back, what's your
- 27:42Speaker 1: This is twenty fifteen. Now it's twenty fifteen. Okay, okay,
- 27:47Speaker 1: you're coming back, damn twenty fifteen. Yeah, I see. I
- 27:51Speaker 1: see how the road can be fast for you. Okay,
- 27:54Speaker 1: So then you come back. What's your first play coming back?
- 27:56Speaker 2: Get a get an actual job, not like a well,
- 28:00Speaker 2: I want to say actual job, but you know, you
- 28:01Speaker 2: have your stake and change over your stuff like that.
- 28:03Speaker 2: But I was like, I need something that's going to
- 28:05Speaker 2: pay me, you know, eighty to one hundred a year.
- 28:07Speaker 2: That was my that was my goal.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 2: So I was like, well, I like driving. I like
- 28:12Speaker 2: being on the road a lot. I was always a
- 28:14Speaker 2: road warrior. All my boys are like, we'll get in
- 28:16Speaker 2: the car and just drive like no problem. So it's
- 28:19Speaker 2: like I was like, well, I'm a car person. I
- 28:22Speaker 2: don't mind trucks. Let me just try a truck driving school.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:26Speaker 2: And I was doing truck driving school.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Did you like it?
- 28:29Speaker 2: It's cool. I don't like the studying part. I hate that.
- 28:32Speaker 2: It was just a lot of I learned a lot,
- 28:34Speaker 2: so respect to the truck drivers, and I learned a lot.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I was like, oh, you.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Like I learned enough to know this job.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Man. But I was almost about to graduate. I
- 28:43Speaker 2: was maybe a couple of weeks or a week or
- 28:44Speaker 2: something like that from graduating. And then got the car
- 28:46Speaker 2: from Jazzy or I want to say, I got the car.
- 28:48Speaker 2: My boy DeMarco Black rest in peace. He just passed
- 28:52Speaker 2: my That's my ace that I started in twenty fifteen with.
- 28:56Speaker 2: He had a connection and got me to do the
- 29:00Speaker 2: call with Jazzy, and Jazzy was taking my music to Snoop,
- 29:06Speaker 2: but I didn't know that, so I sent my music
- 29:08Speaker 2: to Jazzy. Jazzu was already going to meet with Snoop,
- 29:11Speaker 2: so he went to go meet him and he was like, Yo,
- 29:13Speaker 2: you know, I ran to this kid, he's out of Indiana.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Let me play some of his music. He played some
- 29:16Speaker 2: of my music, and he played one of my songs
- 29:18Speaker 2: that sounded very Marvin Gay esque, and he loved it
- 29:21Speaker 2: and he was like, Okay, I'm gonna sign this kid.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And then three months later, well, I quit truck driving.
- 29:26Speaker 2: After that, I was like, okay, this is the big break.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yeah, like this this is off the word that he
- 29:31Speaker 1: was going to sign you or off the eng This.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Is off the word I was. I was like, I'm
- 29:35Speaker 2: not peace. Jazzu was like, just sit tight through Christmas
- 29:39Speaker 2: and I was like okay, bet. So it got through
- 29:41Speaker 2: twenty fifteen Christmas. January, I was getting nervous. I was like, Jazus,
- 29:45Speaker 2: we're still doing this right. He was like yeah, no,
- 29:47Speaker 2: it's a lot going on to holidays and you know
- 29:49Speaker 2: all that. I was like okay. February came and then
- 29:52Speaker 2: Snoop called me and was just like before right, I
- 29:54Speaker 2: think the day before the super Bowl and was like, yo,
- 29:57Speaker 2: I'm definitely I definitely want to sign you. I want
- 29:59Speaker 2: to get you out here while you're out here, and
- 30:01Speaker 2: I flew out March sixteenth, twenty sixteen.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I love how you remember it. Why do you remember
- 30:05Speaker 1: that date?
- 30:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I just remember that I thought that
- 30:08Speaker 2: day was going to change my life.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And was that your first time on the call with Snoop?
- 30:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 30:12Speaker 1: Okay, so you were like, oh shit, this is real.
- 30:14Speaker 2: It's like real because he was like, oh, I'm a fan.
- 30:15Speaker 2: I'm a fan of you, nephew.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Oh my god, do that in person.
- 30:19Speaker 2: What's up, homies, it's a big homie Snoop dog, I'm
- 30:22Speaker 2: a fan of you. Player Like all right, cool. I
- 30:25Speaker 2: was like, I didn't think it was really him at first.
- 30:28Speaker 1: It was like a prank call from Jazz.
- 30:29Speaker 2: If they did it today, I'd have been like, that's
- 30:30Speaker 2: ai click no he I know.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So you get the call, you fly out. What's what's
- 30:36Speaker 1: the first experience?
- 30:37Speaker 2: March sixteenth, meeting him sitting in that lobby and just
- 30:42Speaker 2: looking around like the pictures of him and your doggy
- 30:45Speaker 2: style and I'm just looking around like, man, this is
- 30:48Speaker 2: crazy and he comes out and he's a labor and
- 30:50Speaker 2: I'm a laborer. So we just yo, what up? Man?
- 30:52Speaker 2: What's like we knew each other.
- 30:53Speaker 1: You weren't nervous at all? No, okay, did you wear
- 30:56Speaker 1: a suit?
- 30:58Speaker 2: No? I didn't wear a suit, but I was probably
- 31:01Speaker 2: I probably was dressed, but I didn't wear a suit. No. No,
- 31:04Speaker 2: I don't want to go that hard. And he'd be like, oh,
- 31:06Speaker 2: I got a preacher or something you don't like. So
- 31:10Speaker 2: we went into the studio and the rest was history.
- 31:12Speaker 2: He put on a beat, saw my work ethic, and
- 31:14Speaker 2: I just knocked out one song like that, and he
- 31:16Speaker 2: was like damn, okay, throwing another one, knock it out,
- 31:20Speaker 2: another one, knocked it out. It was like he was like, okay,
- 31:23Speaker 2: all right, you got the voice, you got the work ethic.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I see, but we'll just keep going. And in a
- 31:29Speaker 2: week I did. Oh No, I did in three or
- 31:32Speaker 2: four days. I recorded the album that we're supposed to
- 31:33Speaker 2: put out. I did eighteen songs in three or four days.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Get the freak out.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Now.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Did you already have your deal signed already or no?
- 31:39Speaker 2: I was still in process, But I was like I'm
- 31:41Speaker 2: going in. Yeah, I'm going the fuck in At this point,
- 31:44Speaker 2: I'm passionate about what I'm doing. I you know, feel
- 31:49Speaker 2: strongly about the way I'm writing and all that, and
- 31:51Speaker 2: he let me just have full autionomy. He was like, well,
- 31:53Speaker 2: call me when you're done. I was like, for real.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I was like, this ain't how labels work. They used
- 31:57Speaker 2: to be on your We don't like this. What are
- 31:59Speaker 2: you feel like and going through like artist management and
- 32:02Speaker 2: artist development and all that, and it's just like he
- 32:05Speaker 2: was just like, I love the first song that you did, man,
- 32:07Speaker 2: see if you can come up with another one. Came
- 32:09Speaker 2: up with another one within an hour. He was like,
- 32:11Speaker 2: what you didn't have you had that sitting. I was like, no, dude,
- 32:13Speaker 2: I just knock him out. And now I knocked out
- 32:15Speaker 2: eighteen in three days. Got my I was actually sick
- 32:18Speaker 2: after that. I was just stayed in the studio.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I had no rest or nothing.
- 32:21Speaker 2: No rest or nothing. And he was like, dude, go
- 32:23Speaker 2: back to the hotel, go rest Let me listen to
- 32:25Speaker 2: these songs. And he was like, yeah, we got an
- 32:26Speaker 2: album and we put out color Blind.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 32:30Speaker 2: We had to do a two part because it was
- 32:31Speaker 2: you knows.
- 32:32Speaker 1: And then at what point was the deal done?
- 32:35Speaker 2: Deal still wasn't. Well, the deal was done right before
- 32:37Speaker 2: the album dropped yet, Okay, so then I'm signing and
- 32:39Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, it's all. It's on to the races.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Now. Did you have to on the business side, did
- 32:43Speaker 1: you have to like contact lawyers and do all that
- 32:46Speaker 1: or did you did you even know how to move
- 32:48Speaker 1: in that space because you're coming from truck.
- 32:50Speaker 2: We weren't even As a matter of fact, I now,
- 32:52Speaker 2: actually I have to go back because hold on a lot.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Me and him never had a contract until death throw,
- 32:58Speaker 2: so we went years of just handshake loyalty just to
- 33:01Speaker 2: find out who you know, the loyal part. So I
- 33:02Speaker 2: forgot about that. So we didn't even have Mentally, I
- 33:05Speaker 2: was like, I'm signed to him mentally he was. So
- 33:07Speaker 2: that's why I'm like, oh, yeah, you know that was done.
- 33:09Speaker 1: To be honest, I like those deals better. Yeah, it's
- 33:12Speaker 1: like something about it.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Yeah, was he gonna steal from me? I have ship?
- 33:17Speaker 2: I'm broke. I'm broke.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I mean Ramen, hopefully not Mozzarella Ramen.
- 33:23Speaker 2: I wasn't making it like, I wasn't making it this
- 33:25Speaker 2: good that could it's good. Oh yeah, I was making
- 33:28Speaker 2: it the regular way, you know, the regular way was
- 33:32Speaker 2: yeah done. Yeah, you gotta adkice to it. Yeah, be
- 33:36Speaker 2: sexy ramen?
- 33:37Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I know, absolutely not. You need to go
- 33:42Speaker 1: back to the classic ramen with just some butter and
- 33:44Speaker 1: call it today.
- 33:44Speaker 2: You can't do that.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I never knocked the butter in the ramen. I think
- 33:47Speaker 1: that's the secret. It makes it creamier. But okay, but
- 33:51Speaker 1: that mozzarella.
- 33:54Speaker 2: It was the butter.
- 33:55Speaker 1: See.
- 33:55Speaker 2: That's why I should be in the top five.
- 33:57Speaker 1: It should definitely be in the top ten. So going
- 34:00Speaker 1: back to the worst rum and you're not the worst.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now, you're not the worst. I
- 34:06Speaker 1: would do yours over the absolute worst. But you don't
- 34:12Speaker 1: like that cold mozzarella ball in your mouth? No, you know,
- 34:15Speaker 1: you know, like no colds in your Okay. Uh so okay,
- 34:34Speaker 1: So you and Snoop, you guys, you signed to him.
- 34:37Speaker 1: What are your parents saying? I want to know, like
- 34:39Speaker 1: what your family is saying, what the people around you
- 34:41Speaker 1: are saying. During all of.
- 34:42Speaker 2: This, everybody's just like, this is it. They're hoping because
- 34:46Speaker 2: they saw me go to the struggle. Yeah it's it. No,
- 34:48Speaker 2: it's not. Oh yeah yeah, no, hey damie, yo, this
- 34:51Speaker 2: is it man. I'm on my way to never mind it,
- 34:53Speaker 2: like they're just like Jesus Christ. I really hope.
- 34:56Speaker 1: I don't know if I can't see him trying out
- 34:59Speaker 1: for cold air school next day.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I was like, yo, like color, I would have killed
- 35:06Speaker 2: it in culinary school.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you would have killed something in culinary.
- 35:11Speaker 2: My pork chop surprise would have been a killer in
- 35:14Speaker 2: culinary school. And I don't even have a pork chop surprise.
- 35:17Speaker 2: But I'm making now.
- 35:18Speaker 1: You don't make it now, it's.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Gonna be like it's gonna be stuffed with ramen. Cut it, open,
- 35:23Speaker 2: stuff it you.
- 35:24Speaker 1: If you belong in music, you belong in music. You
- 35:28Speaker 1: belong in music. I can't even say if you should
- 35:32Speaker 1: know you belong in music. This is where you need
- 35:34Speaker 1: to be at that. And the styling of your dressing
- 35:37Speaker 1: is very nice.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, just stay out of the kitchen. Get you
- 35:41Speaker 1: a wife that I'll.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Stay over there and kill some steak, though rib steak.
- 35:50Speaker 2: I can't cook chicken.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask you a team if they would ever
- 35:53Speaker 1: trust you to cook for them, they would.
- 35:55Speaker 2: As long as I'm on the grill. Not They don't
- 35:57Speaker 2: want me to do nothing on the stove.
- 35:59Speaker 1: No, no, no, he probably put mozzarella in mashed potatoes.
- 36:04Speaker 2: If they saw me cooking on the stove, they would
- 36:06Speaker 2: probably leave immediately, or they'd just be like, yeah, we're good,
- 36:08Speaker 2: we'll order out. Yeah. But if they saw me on
- 36:11Speaker 2: a grid, they'd be like, okay, about to get down.
- 36:12Speaker 2: They trust me there.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I don't trust you there, but okay, I don't trust you.
- 36:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 36:19Speaker 1: So you're doing your music, So tell me about some
- 36:22Speaker 1: of the highs, like the very first high of your career,
- 36:25Speaker 1: after the signing, after the album's done, m what's the next?
- 36:30Speaker 2: First album was first?
- 36:33Speaker 1: Because you have? Is it three?
- 36:34Speaker 2: Now? Colorblind was a double Okay, it was a double disc.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But at that point, I mean, people are liking the album,
- 36:42Speaker 2: but we weren't really pushing it really hard. We just
- 36:44Speaker 2: kind of wanted to see organically what it would do.
- 36:47Speaker 2: So it kind of I don't know. I was on
- 36:50Speaker 2: the fence. I was like, do people like it? Like,
- 36:52Speaker 2: do people love it? I don't know. Maybe people don't
- 36:55Speaker 2: want to hear the type of music right now. So
- 36:57Speaker 2: at that point I'm just more nervous. I'm like, okay,
- 37:00Speaker 2: I'm sign a snoop.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Mentally, you know, we're you know, we have this agreement,
- 37:05Speaker 2: and I'm like, why isn't anything going number one? Why
- 37:08Speaker 2: isn't anything Like, Oh, I don't understand, Like is it
- 37:10Speaker 2: people hated people and end up people actually loved it.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I just didn't know. We didn't. We weren't really we
- 37:15Speaker 2: wanted to see organically and it just worked out. No,
- 37:19Speaker 2: nothing went number one, you know. No, it wasn't at
- 37:22Speaker 2: the top of the charts, but it was like one
- 37:24Speaker 2: of those underground things that felt yeah, where now people
- 37:27Speaker 2: know those songs so worked out?
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, now you're being competitive. Did you feel that pressure
- 37:33Speaker 1: of like, oh my gosh, I'm signed to Snoop? You
- 37:36Speaker 1: know these the people that he's worked with you did
- 37:39Speaker 1: you play that? Did you play that in your brain
- 37:42Speaker 1: a lot?
- 37:42Speaker 2: Well, a little bit and not too much because I
- 37:45Speaker 2: was like, he's a rapper, but if he was a singer,
- 37:46Speaker 2: I'd be like, oh boy, this's gonna be a problem.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I really got to go. But is he's a rapper
- 37:50Speaker 2: and he has these connections. I was like, I think
- 37:52Speaker 2: I'm in a safe space, which.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I was, Well, I feel like too, your style compared
- 37:56Speaker 1: to everybody else, is very unique. It's definitely sets apart,
- 37:59Speaker 1: so you can't really say, oh, I'm competing with the
- 38:02Speaker 1: say Chris Brown or anybody else, because you you kind
- 38:04Speaker 1: of you very well own your lane.
- 38:07Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely. If I would have been in like the
- 38:09Speaker 2: same lane or the same label as a Chris Brown
- 38:13Speaker 2: or just him alone, I'd have been like, Oh great,
- 38:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna get shelved or I'm put this album. They're
- 38:19Speaker 2: gonna go back to him, And I was like, it's
- 38:21Speaker 2: not gonna work out. So I was it was a
- 38:23Speaker 2: great lane to be in.
- 38:24Speaker 1: It was a great lane. Yeah, And I think for
- 38:26Speaker 1: death Row you definitely added a surprising element. And not
- 38:30Speaker 1: talking bad about death Row because I be honored to
- 38:33Speaker 1: have Snoop, you know obviously, but you added a level
- 38:36Speaker 1: of like, oh like level of like classic layer of
- 38:41Speaker 1: all Man.
- 38:42Speaker 2: When he said I was gonna be the flagship for
- 38:44Speaker 2: death Row, I was like, huh.
- 38:45Speaker 1: But you could see it. You could see like it
- 38:48Speaker 1: to me, you you really bring something to that label.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I'm just happy to be on it because I was like,
- 38:54Speaker 2: I'm you supposed to be signing like rappers to this label,
- 38:57Speaker 2: like you had Park and all that.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Like, were you a little nervous too about like his direction?
- 39:01Speaker 1: Like obviously he was off hands. He lets you be you,
- 39:04Speaker 1: But were you nervous like a rapper kind of?
- 39:07Speaker 2: No? No, No, he knew what he was doing.
- 39:09Speaker 1: And you know he had good taste. He had good taste, right,
- 39:13Speaker 1: good taste.
- 39:13Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm saying?
- 39:14Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 39:15Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, And he's a liver. You know, it's the best.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, livers are the best, got it? Liverras and ramen. Okay,
- 39:23Speaker 1: So take me. So you end up going on tour,
- 39:26Speaker 1: how was the tour?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Serenade tour with Maxwell and Jasmine Sullivan was amazing? Yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 2: it was amazing. It was. It was really dope. You know,
- 39:32Speaker 2: Maxwell was in my top ten. So I love being
- 39:35Speaker 2: on tour now.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Now personality wise, I got to ask between Jasmine and Maxwell,
- 39:39Speaker 1: who who would you be locked in a in a
- 39:41Speaker 1: room with for a long pero?
- 39:43Speaker 2: Maxwell? Because me and me and Maxwell just we vibed,
- 39:46Speaker 2: like we talked a lot. We talked like every couple
- 39:48Speaker 2: of days, just like so where you going and like
- 39:49Speaker 2: where do you want to go in life? Like where
- 39:51Speaker 2: do you want? Where do you want your music to go?
- 39:52Speaker 2: And just get an experience from him. So we had
- 39:54Speaker 2: like just great talks and just great interactment, you know.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, so Max, Okay, damn, I would have thought jazz,
- 40:02Speaker 1: you know, Max, like big brother, was you scared of jazzmins?
- 40:06Speaker 2: No, no, no, I just heard she couldn't make rama.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Anyone can make rama except for you.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Okay, No, she was great.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I just you know, yeah, Now I'm curious. I felt
- 40:21Speaker 1: like that tour was a really good lineup. It was
- 40:23Speaker 1: a really good, well rounded lineup. It was very impressive.
- 40:26Speaker 1: It was very impressive. Okay, so take me down to Doggyland.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, doggy Land.
- 40:32Speaker 1: How did that happen? Doggy Land? For all of you
- 40:34Speaker 1: guys that don't know, you could break it down.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Doggyland is a kid show on YouTube, So you can
- 40:41Speaker 2: look up doggy Land kids on YouTube and find it.
- 40:43Speaker 2: It's just educational and just great music. You know. I
- 40:47Speaker 2: do the music. I do some of the music I do.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I voiced the character Woofie, and I'm co owner of
- 40:52Speaker 2: the show.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Yeah now how did that come about?
- 40:55Speaker 2: So I was in the studio working on songs and
- 40:58Speaker 2: Snoop comes in and he's like, Yo, we need to start.
- 41:02Speaker 2: We need to like do a kid song. I'm like,
- 41:05Speaker 2: all right, He's like you think you can do that.
- 41:06Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, okay, cool, and he just walked out,
- 41:09Speaker 2: all right, let's stop what I was doing. I was like,
- 41:11Speaker 2: all right, whipped up a kids song about thirty forty
- 41:12Speaker 2: minutes something like that, and then he came back in.
- 41:15Speaker 2: He was like, what you got and I played on
- 41:17Speaker 2: a song. I forget which one it is because we
- 41:19Speaker 2: have so many songs now, but I played it and
- 41:20Speaker 2: he was like, I like that, that's joke. Can you
- 41:23Speaker 2: do another one?
- 41:23Speaker 1: And I was like, why was he asking you to do
- 41:25Speaker 1: kids songs? You didn't even ask just he'd be okay.
- 41:29Speaker 2: I know, like after I finished and I go in
- 41:31Speaker 2: the room and we like, you know, we have like this.
- 41:33Speaker 1: He didn't even give you a topic like ABC's.
- 41:35Speaker 2: No, he knew what you know. You know, I was
- 41:37Speaker 2: gonna come up with something. So then made another one,
- 41:39Speaker 2: came back in, and this time I put my son
- 41:41Speaker 2: on it and he loved it. And it was a
- 41:44Speaker 2: song called brush Brush Your Teeth and he was like, yo,
- 41:48Speaker 2: I got to make a call. And then him and
- 41:50Speaker 2: Claude Brooks, the other co owner of the show, they
- 41:54Speaker 2: got together and was like, yo, we need we need
- 41:56Speaker 2: to do this kid show. We need to work together,
- 41:58Speaker 2: YadA YadA, pull october Man and they did. And next
- 42:01Speaker 2: thing you know, we were five six, seven, twenty songs
- 42:04Speaker 2: deep and the show was getting created and animated and
- 42:06Speaker 2: it just blew up, you know, over almost Yeah. Yeah,
- 42:10Speaker 2: it's like over a quarter billion views. Yeah, it just
- 42:15Speaker 2: it really blew up. It's in Africas and it's everywhere now.
- 42:19Speaker 1: It doesn't make you look at the kid genre like differently, like, go, man,
- 42:22Speaker 1: there's money to be made over there. I mean I
- 42:24Speaker 1: hate to talk like that, but it doesn't make you
- 42:25Speaker 1: look at it like I mean, that's a whole space over.
- 42:28Speaker 2: There, there is. It's a whole space. And yeah, you
- 42:30Speaker 2: can be very lucrative making making children's music.
- 42:34Speaker 1: You ever You ever hear the Baby Sharks song and go, Yeah,
- 42:37Speaker 1: that drove me nuts. I hate that song, but I'm like, how.
- 42:41Speaker 2: And let it snow or let it let it, let
- 42:44Speaker 2: it go?
- 42:45Speaker 1: I love that song. Don't hate on that song.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Don't let it go.
- 42:50Speaker 1: So I was like, I was like, bro, let me
- 42:52Speaker 1: tell you something as an adult, which is good for
- 42:54Speaker 1: them without anybody any kids at the time, I definitely
- 42:58Speaker 1: downloaded Demi Levado's Let It Go without anybody knowing, like,
- 43:03Speaker 1: you know what other song? I have to admit to
- 43:05Speaker 1: an artist that I really liked when I was younger,
- 43:08Speaker 1: and I was ashamed to other artists.
- 43:10Speaker 2: It was.
- 43:13Speaker 1: I'm not going to No, it was Jewel. Jewel. You
- 43:17Speaker 1: don't know who that is? The white girl guitar folk music.
- 43:23Speaker 1: I like Jewel. I was definitely ashamed, didn't want anybody
- 43:26Speaker 1: to know about it. And I actually like Brittany's. If
- 43:34Speaker 1: you was black, you wasn't walk around like here with
- 43:36Speaker 1: Britney Spear, but you was watching the video when nobody

- 44:55Speaker 2: I think it's nineteen eighty four, so you.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Can relate to having that artist that.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Really one of my favorite artists is John Mayer, so
- 45:01Speaker 2: it kind of reminds me of that.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Yeah, John Mayor is pretty good.
- 45:04Speaker 2: Yeah, r Kelly Shade, John Mayer top three, and D'Angelo
- 45:08Speaker 2: top four all time. Really absolutely, yep. Oh, I could

- 49:30Speaker 1: does his whatever he does, I can't do it. I
- 49:32Speaker 1: don't even listen to it. I just listen to the rap.

- 49:39Speaker 1: and please no time? Please? Oh my god? Do you
- 49:45Speaker 1: feel the same way I loved it at first?
- 49:49Speaker 2: I absolutely loved it.
