  [upbeat rock music] Hello, everybody.
• 0:26
Welcome to the radio program. This is Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 239 today. Yeah. Moving up the old 200 ladder. Excellent,
• 0:43
excellent January weather out there. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. [lips smack] And f- for the foreseeable future, n- not looking too shabby. But I know February is a harsh mistress. Yeah. Well, I see 55- Andy, Andy...
• 0:58
I see 55 coming next week. No. Mm-mm. Really? Yeah, and towards the end of next week. Whoa.
• 1:04
Uh, while we're on the weather thing, uh, I guess we could say that the Shiver West 24 coming up on Sunday's weather's looking good. Toasty. Gonna be 40-ish. 40. I see 42-ish sometimes. Yeah, 39-ish, 40-ish.
• 1:16
Got everything aired out with Billy and Ron, so excited for that. It- so this is for the, um, the DJ, Billy from Rushmore. Yeah, dance party. Dance party DJ. Two.
• 1:28
Uh, is he doing it also at the- No, we're doing just at work. And so, good, good call. I think so. We don't need to give those guys down there at, uh, House of Rad any more radness.
• 1:38
Well, it's just that way Billy can join in the fun too. And this- So we're gonna set up Saturday night, and then he can come ride with us, and then set up the DJ, and- That sounds like a-... make the after party...
• 1:47
a goodly plan. I think so. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Uh, 341 interested right now in the old Shiver West 24. That's scary. 71 going. That's also scary. [laughs] I, I would... If it's really that nice, I'd, I'd...
• 2:00
200- I think there's-... two, 200's doable. Yeah. Also very scary. [laughs] By the way, this is, this is part of the beginning of our show. We're calling the Milwaukee Minute. Well. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
• 2:10
Or, or five for now. Yeah. [laughs] Seems like often at the beginning of the show, we- The-... do, do recap a little bit about the, uh, the past week- Okay... and what might be coming up in, in our fair town here.
• 2:21
I'm thinking we should have- Milwaukee... tried to schedule some sort of food trucks, but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. Food truck, shmood truck. That's what I say about food trucks.
• 2:29
Can, I mean- Go suck an egg out of one of those things. [laughs] There, there are no egg food trucks that I know of, though. Maybe there should be. There should be. I, I don't like eggs enough to make that happen.
• 2:38
If I had a food truck- Put a half of an egg-... it would have, it would have two things: chili and, and slop. Some other kind of slop. Oh, mac and cheese, dude. Big vats of slop. Well, that's- Mac and cheese is slop.
• 2:49
It can go in a vat. Eh. Or, or on, uh, or grilled cheeses, you know? No, no, no, no, no. You're making something that takes time. Uh, you have to just ladle the shit out of there and get it down the road.
• 3:00
Well- Can't be making time, goofing off- There's, there are soup trucks, for sure... making crap. Huevos con chorizo. Mm-hmm. Boom, boom. Mm-hmm. Boom, boom. Yeah. Boom, boom. Good eggs.
• 3:11
Uh, you guys been paying any attention on the old Buck face to the North Avenue fracas with the planters? Yeah. [laughs] No. I, it was last week. I think it was last week.
• 3:21
Anyway, I rode through there, and there was, there's a lot of debris between- Oh, yeah... between the planters and the curb. Well, how can they plow it? Well, that plus people are blasting those planters pretty good.
• 3:31
[laughs] Right, they are getting hit pretty hard. Um, which means people are driving like idiots, and the fracas, uh, some clown, I kid, his name is Brian, I think. Yeah.
• 3:38
"Brian, you're a clown," was saying something about, uh, "You know, these things are stupid. They don't work."
• 3:44
And about 94 times out of the 143 comments that are on the post, he said, "Well, can you imagine if one of those planters hit a person?" [laughs] Can you imagine if a car hit the person? Right.
• 3:57
How about you, can you imagine if I punch you in the face? [laughs] Right? Um, I don't know if- Sounds like a very angry driver. I don't know if snowplows are bla- blasting them or what. I, I don't know.
• 4:07
I wouldn't be surprised if a snowplow just was like, "Yeah, man." New Year- "I, I think, I think I can get that thing to go about 90 feet."
• 4:14
Yeah, there was, New Year's Day, there was one right in the middle of the bike path. There was one right in the middle of the road the other day, like in traffic. I see. [laughs] It's, it's great.
• 4:22
I, it's, it's obvious that, that it, it... for you don't, don't know, if you're not from town here, there's only three bridges across the Milwaukee River north of downtown, really, and North Avenue's one of them. Yeah.
• 4:33
So it's a very used corridor, but people are just going insanely fast. I thought I read they have like- For no particular reason... 90 more of these planned for this year of, um, lane... What are they calling it?
• 4:45
Lane calming maneuvers. Yeah. Oh. I, I think they're going through a bunch of different kinds of things- Yeah... and seeing which ones stick- Mm-hmm...
• 4:53
and which ones are easiest to maintain, because obviously planters being punted is not that easy to maintain. Yeah, but they're cheap and easily to, easy to replace. [laughs] Yeah, that, and that dirt don't cause dirt.
• 5:03
No. [laughs] You just scoop it up from the last one. Well, I think what you do is you make them about four times the size of those. Mm.
• 5:09
So they're much less likely to get punted, and you might be a little bit smarter about not running into one. Seen a lot of airbag action. Fracas. Yeah. I'm totally fine with that. Well, you know what?
• 5:20
If you hit it, you're an idiot, and you deserve the airbag in your mug. [laughs] Uh- Why is it, oh, my God, it's not doing its job? It... No, it's actually doing its job. You're pointing- Wow...
• 5:30
proving the freaking point. [laughs] And I'll, uh, throw another shout-out- Yeah... to JK that I am now on the cargo bike again, now that the weather is, uh, now I can get into the garage. It was just frozen shut.
• 5:39
[laughs] And I do take the full lane when I'm riding up, uh, Edgewood now. I put my elbows out and everything- Oh, yeah... as I ride, and I make it really look like- Yep. Yep... I'm extra big.
• 5:48
Can you put, like, uh, one of those three, three-foot things- I should... that sticks out from your bike that says- I should... three foot. Curblers. [laughs] Yeah. Keep three feet away. Yeah, I should.
• 5:56
But the other one that I kinda liked was that laser deal that puts a red line right on the road. Except for no one looks at that It is cool, but short Or the line is so faint. Faint.
• 6:05
Yeah, I think it needs a- I bought one of those once... needs a higher powered laser [laughs] Yeah... I think I bought one of those once and just on a lark and- Yeah...
• 6:11
didn't really do anything Burn out their eyebrow, eyeball laser. Couple of, uh, music things last week. You guy, you guy, you guy- You guy... guy, guy, JK. By the way, JK is over there. Hi. And we got Tony. Mm-hmm.
• 6:24
Just like a, a lot of weeks that, that we sit here and do this. You know, on the, on these notes where it says Nor- where you're just [laughs] revisiting the plantar fracas. Yeah.
• 6:31
From a distance it looked like plantar fasciitis. [laughs] And I was [laughs] I was starting- Do you have it? I was starting to get like a phantom tingle in my foot. Do, do you have the fasciitis?
• 6:39
Yes, I do, but not actively, no. Oh, good. Okay. Uh- Carry on. Chit chat... so somehow, somehow JK missed, uh, Jonas's birthday bash at Tonic, which was really, really good, with the Cactus Brothers brother.
• 6:53
Yeah, it had a stacked- And, uh, and Tyner and Stacks. Stacks. Stacks. Lineup. Szabo. I mean, it was, it was very good. Yeah, it was like a Carpetbaggers thing except I don't think a Kent, unless there was a Kent.
• 7:03
There wasn't a Kent. There were, but various players who sat in and did various jobs, and it was- Yeah, it looked like a jam. Like, I don't know. Yeah, it was a jam. So was Amanda Huffa-Jam at Linneman's, boy.
• 7:12
That, that was- Oh. Stranger- Amanda Huff was there? That was- Strangerland... fuck... or Strangerlander. God. I always screw that up. Damn, I wanna see her live. She's so good.
• 7:21
There were at least eight musicians on stage. And [laughs] they were the... It was well-attended to a point of aggravation. Yeah. Oh. And having to sit in the bar area in front...
• 7:34
Well, I was- Well, it didn't really care... I, I was leaning on the wall talking to Linneman while he was mixing just [laughs]
• 7:40
so he, so I could just kinda stand there Well, they had like almost like cabaret seating or something- Mm-hmm... which I was like- Oh, yeah, they had chairs on the floor... yeah. I'm like- That was-...
• 7:47
"What's going on here?" Eh, whatever. But- It was a good show. Yeah, it was like- It was worth seeing... it just reminded- So I'm used to that Her voice is so good. Yes. You are correct, sir.
• 7:54
She's on the BandCloud, Sound Band Camp CloudBill. Check her out, and she goes all over. I mean, her genres are widespread.
• 8:03
And not just the, the, the number of musicians and the types- Yeah, between like Strangerland, You Win, solo shit, jazzy shit, all kinds of shit. Yeah. She's all over the place.
• 8:12
I saw her play at a jazz estate many years ago. Mm. And she- All over the map, I say. Hey, here's something for our, our listeners to participate. Listeners? You're assuming we have more than one? Yes.
• 8:23
Participate [laughs] in the show, yeah. Really would be cool if you guys looked at the show notes, so spend a lot of time on these things. There's good stuff in there.
• 8:31
But this is one that I just, I don't know when we got on this subject. It was, it's when it was cold, because it's about long underwear. So it wasn't last week. No. I must have come up with it- Beautiful...
• 8:39
the week before or something. I thought it was, I, again, glancing, I thought you were talking about doing a long underwear ride. [laughs] Which you'd kinda sidle up with Sugar West. I did that once.
• 8:50
A long underwear ride? Yeah, I did, showed up for the October underwear ride- Yeah, some of those are-... with long underwear underneath my underwear because, damn, it was cold. Some of those rides, man.
• 8:57
Long underwear under your underwear. Right, chilly. So that's kinda my question here is- So I had, like, a suit, like a, like a superhero suit on. Ah. Underwear on the outside.
• 9:05
That's what I call my underwear, is my superhero suit. Yeah. [laughs] So, yeah. So I don't know if, how you guys have the f- the 32 degree heat from- I do... from, uh- 32 Below... Costco long underwear. Oh, yeah.
• 9:16
32 Below or 32 Heat? No, 30- Is that what they're called? Yeah, 32. Yeah, 32 Heat. They're very nice, but my question is, and I want people to call 717-727-2453 and- It's a lot...
• 9:27
leave a voicemail that says, "When you wear long underwear, do you wear underwear under the long underwear?" Mm. You know, if you're gonna wear pants and long underwear, do you actually wear underwear under there?
• 9:38
I'm guessing you don't. I don't. Why? It's stupid. Unless- You're already wearing underwear... unless you're not sure. If you're gonna gamble on a fart and lose, or what? No. If you're gonna gamble on the temperature.
• 9:50
Oh, and you're gonna pull- I will-... those long underwear off. Yes. Copy that. That's what I did on the beach ride when I was hiding behind the rock and everyone thought I was taking a shit [laughs]
• 9:59
I'm like, "No, I was taking my pants off so I could take off my one long underwear layer." All right. Okay, that's, that's a bad reason. So. That's, I, I- That, yes. So leave a, a voicemail like that. Okay.
• 10:08
I do wear underwear under my long underwear, and I tell you why. Then I can get two days out of my long underwear. Uh, I suppose. Why? Do you, like, poop in your pants?
• 10:16
No [laughs], but I just, then I don't have- Well, he does some spraying. I mean [laughs] It's not directly against my skin. It's more, it's more crop dusting. [laughs] I have been known to crop dust.
• 10:25
Or in the nether regions. Yeah, so- [laughs]... I guess all the valid reasons to just- I perfume the fabric [laughs] throughout the day.
• 10:32
The dumbest thing I could think of is wearing bike shorts under your long underwear. [laughs] Oh, that sounds terrible. That sounds dumb, doesn't it? That sounds really bad. [laughs] Oh, man.
• 10:40
But I'll bet you someone does it. Probably. Well, that's 717-727-2453. That's in the show notes if you forget it. Let, let, let us know, uh, if you leave a voicemail, we could probably include it in...
• 10:51
I could push a button and it'd be like- [laughs]... "This is, uh, Billy Bob from down here in Alabama. We don't wear no dang old underwear down here. Don't care."
• 10:58
I, uh, I'm gonna go back on last week's show notes 'cause we didn't really talk about that badass rack that was included. Jack, Jack the bike rack?
• 11:06
Yeah, that is a- I, I moved it up to this week 'cause we didn't talk about it last week... that is a really nice rack set, man. Nice rack. A rack. [laughs] Nice rack. Are we talking this whole grain psych?
• 11:14
It's the only product they make. It's the only one. Oh, that is sharp. Yeah. Yeah. Hopefully they get wealthy off of it- Yeah... 'cause it's a great idea. It's really cool.
• 11:21
Uh, it, it, it attaches to your handlebar and then has some- Looks like it straps to the head tube or something. Yeah, it just, it, I- It's genius. They should send- That would fit my, my- They should send us one.
• 11:30
We'll test it for them. No.... my speaker. I, I, I think they've- Just, just, just so-... probably tested it a lot, but, uh, that's definitely a cool thing. That's a really cool...
• 11:38
Check out the show and let's check out that rack. Yeah. And I'll bet you- Wholegraincycles.com... one of our listeners will order one. Um, yeah.
• 11:44
Or one of our- Tell, tell him you heard it on- One of us will might order one [laughs]... tell, tell, tell him you heard it on Full Spectrum Cycling. It's one of the two people that listen, Will. All right.
• 11:52
Give that a go. What, oh, there's a lot of, of... Hey, what, I wrote a lot of stuff. Uh, here- I'm still looking at them, working on that bike rack. Well, this was, this will take just a second. Uh, fatbike.com-
• 12:06
Had a YouTube channel- Hmm... that I set up back when Iwasfatbike.com-ing still. And, uh, I'm probably gonna do a video at some point of, of just the, kind of what happened to me and fatbike.com.
• 12:19
But suffice it to say that in 2017, there hasn't been a video posted since, because basically I was doing all the video. Um, and it's got a bunch of subscribers, like 1,800 subscribers. Really? Let's bless that thing.
• 12:34
So I'm thinking to myself, "Do I wanna start a new channel or do I wanna rebrand fatbike.com to Full Spectrum Cycling?" Which I did already.
• 12:42
And that doesn't mean we can't have fat bike stuff on there, it just means it's not gonna be limited to fat bike. Right. I, I think between 2017 and now, you know, the fad kinda passed.
• 12:53
The people that are fat biking are fat biking. Yeah. I don't know that we're getting a whole lot of new fat bikers in the scene.
• 12:59
I think, uh, it's st- it's still the greatest thing in the world, but- I, I do think if we do get someone that's not used to fat biking on a fat bike, I do think that is a very strong correlation to, "Oh, I've ridden a fat bike, now I have to own a fat bike."
• 13:16
I see. 'Cause when they first came out, that's what I told everyone that wanted to ride my bike. I'll say, "I'll let you ride it, but I'm gonna warn you, you're probably going to buy one." Yes.
• 13:24
And- And also your face will hurt, because you'll be smiling- Smiling... all the time. [laughs] And let me just throw it, Marcus Doucette. Marcus Doucette, I conned him into riding my bike- Mm-hmm...
• 13:33
and he now owns a fat bike. Yep, yep. [laughs] It's got a... He has a white Pug, right? Uh, I think Moonlander. Oh, I think he has a... Does he have a Moon? Yeah, I think it's a Moon. Yes. Some Surly product, for sure.
• 13:43
I'm pretty sure it's a Moon. Thought he had a Whale for a minute, but no. He has a Mossy road bike, right? Fixed gear. Um, not Mossy. It's a, a, la, la, la, la, la, Milwaukee Bikes bicycle. Oh, okay. Okay.
• 13:56
Speaking of- What is it a Bulldog or Bruisy? I'm not Bru- Bruiser... Bruiser. Bruiser. Bruiser. Okay. I think that was a Bruiser. Not much of a Milwaukee bike knower. Uh, they're right here in Milwaukee, though.
• 14:06
Uh, speaking of Mossy's- Not a... Just a clever name. Speaking of Mossy's, uh- Mossy... that Mossy's about ready for Kim to pick it up pretty soon. [laughs] Right on. How's that going? All right.
• 14:14
That's got a lot of new parts on it. Does it have three speeds still that she never uses? It has, definitely has three speeds. Nice. Might have to wait for that first gear. Probably gonna have to ride it a little bit.
• 14:23
Needs a little bit of working in. It hasn't been a three speed for how long? Like- Forever... 10 years or something. Something. [laughs] So, uh, that thing's working real well. Had it...
• 14:32
It's got a new crank, it's got a new bottom bracket, it's got- Geez... it's got shifty parts going on. Steven had to do some, some good old Dremelin' to make some stuff on the shifter work. [laughs] That's right.
• 14:43
Like, oh, yeah, well, it's... That part was broke. There's a lot of broken stuff on there. Sure. Yeah. So it's, it's refreshed. It's a nice bike.
• 14:50
I would definitely, you know, spend the money on it again, 'cause that's what's gonna happen. [laughs] Yeah, right. [laughs] Your phone keeps going, "Boo-oo." Why's it doing that?
• 15:01
Is somebody walking through your kitchen? Yes, a person was detected this time. Oh, is it? Not to be confused with a pet. Is it one of your people? Hopefully. [laughs] I'm gonna guess it is. All right, everybody.
• 15:13
That Jack the bike rack led us right up the hill. [bell ringing] Oh, yeah. Today we have a new brewery in the house. I don't think we've had this brewery before. I believe you are correct.
• 15:26
It's spelled weird, but it's pronounced distill. D-I-S-T-I-H-L. You know why? That's- 'Cause they're from Normal, Illinois. They don't know how to spell distill. So they spelled it wrong, but they pronounce it correctly.
• 15:39
Okay. Or it's a branding thing, I'm not sure which. Could be one. Could be either.
• 15:42
That said, the first, the first beer out of the can here, 'cause we're g- this was a, a multi-pack, which got me with the very, very grateful Deddy Headees on the cans. Uh, 'cause I love a good...
• 15:55
I love good artwork [laughs] on a beer. Yeah. [laughs] Why would you buy the beer? Because the, it looked nice. Yeah. It was pretty. And they had the black cans, like, like War Pigs. True that, yeah. And, and
• 16:05
this Easy Haze IPA is our first, uh, foot in the pool kinda thing. Easy-drinking hazy IPA. A smooth melody of bright citrus, tropical, and pine notes from Citra, Summit, Simcoe, and Cascade hops.
• 16:19
This was some sort of winning thing from some sort of contest, which I know there's a lot of them and a lot of people win, but somehow in 2021 they managed to win some prize with this particular beer. I can see it.
• 16:30
It's good. Boy, talk land. Yeah, I like it. It's, uh, it, it- It's easy drinking. Yeah. I'm a sucker for dead labeling, branding. Yeah. And it's a 5%-er, so we- Mm-hmm... we got, we got off to a slow roll.
• 16:42
We're gonna come down the other side [laughs] of the hill with the, uh, Touch of Haze IPA, though. Which is fast. Got about 7.3 on that one when we get to it. [laughs] Which will be soon.
• 16:51
I might have to burp pretty soon. Yeah. [laughs] Make a little room. Um, yeah, I will. Right now. You guys talk about something while I burp. [laughs] We're talking about how Greg's belching. Thank you very much.
• 17:01
And then, oh, he's back already. It was a quick belch. Well, I didn't... I... If I forced it out anymore, it wouldn't be a belch. [laughs] It would've been juicy. It would've been poop. [laughs] This is a hazy.
• 17:10
It would've been the, the juicy. Not juicy. It would've been juicy all over something. I belched, I belched once this year already. Out of your butt? No, out of my mouth.
• 17:19
It's, like, the first time in probably three years. I don't know what the hell happened. That's... I- I, I don't belch. Okay. You know who b- you know who belches- No... like there's no tomorrow? No. His name is Daniel.
• 17:30
Really? He's very proud of his very loud belching. We are very afraid for first grade. So- Can he do the alphabet yet? Because- Not yet... that's a good trick... because I have not challenged him to it, I'm afraid.
• 17:40
So you don't, you haven't watched Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise with him? I'm not showing him that, no. [laughs] When he goes to see his, the master. [burps] [laughs] Master. It goes for some time. Yeah.
• 17:57
That was the abridged- There's also the funny Simpsons episode with, is it John Arquette? Who is it? Where Homer pretends he's a really good belcher, and then this guy just destroys him. Hmm. And he's like
• 18:10
Yeah, I don't know. It's one of the funnier ones. I'm sure you know it, I just am not doing it justice. All right. While we're, uh, while we're talking about beer, can we get those other beers going? Yeah. Yeah? Yeah.
• 18:20
All right. Speaking of talking about things, though, I see you've got a demo as, a WMSE garb on. What about you, JK? Do I, do I, do I? Spartan any? I might not. Spartan. I don't think I am. Uh-oh.
• 18:33
Tony, you got yours on, I'm assuming. [laughs] And I don't have my bag, so I don't even have that. Is it just under the shirt? No. Under my shirt I have a UWM shirt. Ah. I am wearing WMSE wool socks, though. Nice.
• 18:48
So this kinda goes along with the beer section. I have a new section. I gotta, I'm gonna rush somewhere. I'm, I'm all about new, I'm all about new sections this week. This one's called the koozie shout-out section.
• 18:58
Koozie shout-out. Well, I just thought these are some cool koozies. We got a lot of koozies here. We do. We- And we sure would like some more, so if you wanna send them to us, just go to the website, see the address.
• 19:07
Send them, send them. Send them. You might get a shout-out if we have them. Yeah. Uh, I got the- And we'll certainly buy you a beer if you come here with one. Right.
• 19:14
I got the Milwaukee polka dot one from the polka ride last year. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I dropped my koozie on the, uh, practice lap on Saturday. Mm. You picked it... Somebody picked it up for you. Yeah. Yeah.
• 19:24
Well, that was nice. That was Scooter. I think Scooter picked it up. Yeah, yeah. Um, I was like, "Oh, wait. Yeah, that was mine." [laughs] Uh- Well, it's just nice that someone actually brought beer on the ride.
• 19:32
I was really impressed. That was Scooter again. That was Scooter? Okay. And then when we were at Company, his, uh, Apple Pay, they couldn't get it to work. Oh, I saw that.
• 19:42
So, so, so I just, I bou- [laughs] I bought him his drink, which was a fancy drink, so he said he would, uh, reciprocate on the day of the, uh- Yeah. Shiverless 24...
• 19:49
those were, those were fancy drinks you guys were having there. I, I had a normal Bloody Mary, which is still fancy at 11 bucks over there. Uh, but you know what?
• 19:57
As much as I hate spending 10 bucks or more for a bloody, at least theirs is good. Eh, it was good. I had a spicy one. I thought it was pretty...
• 20:04
The young lady, I, I com- complimented her, and she was very excited that I liked the, her bloody. Well, I had a beer after that, so it wasn't terrible. I did, too. Then I went home.
• 20:13
But still, it was three drinks, and it was 36 bucks. Ouch. I wasn't quite that bad. I think I was 20 with a tip. Well, it was with the tip. Just the tip. I had a beer and a bloody.
• 20:24
Well, they build in the tip itself, don't they? Not unless you have food. No, not un- not unless you're eating food. Bar only, no tip built in. Really? Food- Although I will occasionally get that 20% tip. I don't know.
• 20:34
Yeah. Food, they put- I'm just saying I'd gave her the card. She just gave me the card back and... There's a lot of our Detroit people have been- No. I said, "Yeah, close me out." And she's like, "Close you out?"
• 20:43
And I'm like, "Yeah." Well, here's, here's the deal there. I don't know if other people do it. I don't know if they- But they have a service charge. Yeah. That's not a tip. It's a 20% service charge- It's quite-...
• 20:51
when you have food. Right... which they also tax. That's what everyone's been complaining about. Because it's a s- because it's a, a product, essentially, not a tip. Yeah. So it does get...
• 21:01
You know, they're, they're walking a fine line there. And that's another 7.9 on top of the- And, and that's why I don't eat there very often. I haven't ate there I don't know in how long.
• 21:10
I have had their, their beverages, though. Well, they took away their poutine, so Sam and I are boycotting. I had the- Okay... like a soup and sandwich there. You're boycotting the food, not the Bloody Marys, obviously.
• 21:19
Or the beer. Yeah, don't get me wrong. All right. Uh- They had some sort of soup and sandwich lunch thing one day. Hey, they, hey, they- Package. The grilled cheese and s- tomato soup. It's pretty damn good. Yeah.
• 21:29
It, that worked out nicely. Yeah. They got us nice sourdough from Troubadour and two different kinds of cheeses you can choose. Yeah. It was, like, a couple Mondays ago. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I was like, "Yeah."
• 21:37
We got more, we got more junk on the, uh, the notes here. Ooh. So- Moving along. You know, Soma, I like Soma bikes. Soma's make some good bikes. Soma, good brand.
• 21:46
Uh, the Soma Riff, which is their, uh, I think it's 29er, basically. Uh, that got an update. Oh. You know what we got?
• 21:53
The previous generation, so if you like that thing, I got a large frame you can probably buy for a song. Give us a call at the bike shop or whatever. Or email. It's probably better to email.
• 22:04
How many, how many ARs do we have? Smoke signal. Hm? How many ARs do we have? Uh, I would say a dozen maybe. Maybe-ish. I gotta get a list of the sizes. We gotta get people interested in those.
• 22:14
I, I, I made Dan the most ridiculous offer on the ride, and he's like, "Hm." I'm like, "I want them to go to people local if we can, friends if we can't, and, uh, people we haven't met yet- Oh...
• 22:25
if that's the last resort, but- And if I'm not mistaken, is Jess not riding one already? Jess already rides one. Yeah. She rides a 52. Ooh, that's little. Yeah. Um- Which she's little, too.
• 22:39
I ride a 54, so it's not that much bigger. I suppose. I'm 54, 55. And I have... So what I've been struggling with is I- I'm 53, 54. [laughs] Son of a... Jesus. [laughs] What the hell, math?
• 22:52
That's the, it's the nerd number portion of the show. Jesus, math. Get the hell out of here. So what I'm struggling with is I have a, and I think I might have a solution to this.
• 22:59
I have a, and I still gotta work this out. I have a, a prototype, I think, or a show model or something of a Surly, not a Surly, a Salsa, a Fargo, titanium Fargo- Hm. Yeah...
• 23:11
that I got from Chewie for a song, 'cause he's very nice. Thank you, Chewie. You're the greatest guy in the world and stuff. Um,
• 23:18
and the gear on it would directly, almost all of it, go on a, an AR 45, which I don't have anymore. Sold mine to Al the, Al the bike food delivery guy. Okay.
• 23:30
Um, and he managed to beat the shit out of it, and the frame is still working well. He did blow up a velocity rim and a couple other things, but the frame is kicking ass. Uh, so do I, do I sell the Salsa and...
• 23:42
But then I was thinking that Salsa will take Big Apples, and it'd also take a Rohloff. I'm like, "Huh." And then I thought, "Boy, I sure do love a Smitty." You know what makes a good Smitty? A Rohloff. Rohloff.
• 23:54
There you go. So- And Big Apples. So you can see my conundrum, which w- what do I do? I can only have one. There can be only one. There can be only one- [laughs]...
• 24:02
is what I woke up to on the television this morning, so I had to listen to A Kind of Magic- Oh... by Queen on the way in. Was it, was it the m- was it the movie one- Oh, yes... two or three, or was it the series?
• 24:13
It was the first one, McCloud. Yeah, that's the best one. And the series. I give them a series, them a series some, some m- m- props. What? [laughs] Yeah. Does your Rohloff Smitty still have that funky fork on it, too?
• 24:25
I, you know what? I have a new Smitty frame. I might just- Go like- Start clean... start from scratch, 'cause it has...
• 24:31
So one of them has an eccentric bottom bracket, which for whatever dumb reason I prefer to a Paragon slider. Mm-hmm. That said, the slider does make a really nice
• 24:42
OE mount, so it's, it, it, I would have to use that mount anyway. But I would not necessarily... No, 'cause it doesn't... Yeah, whatever. Yeah. I don't know.
• 24:52
Maybe I'll just use the one I already have, 'cause I- I've had a Smitty since the, I had the first Smitty basically. [laughs] And so, uh, I, uh- I had the first ultra Smitty...
• 25:01
speaking of Smitty's and Sh- and Schlick Cycles, I talked to John several times last week for some reason, and, uh, we're gonna do, I'm gonna do a, I'm on this video thing now because of the YouTube, you know? Mm.
• 25:13
It's a thing with the kids out there, the YouTube. They like that stuff. Have you guys heard- The hippin' and the hoppin'... have you guys heard of that thing? I don't know. And the bippin' and the boppin'.
• 25:18
A- apparently if we're not doing YouTube, we're not doing it right. That's what they keep saying. Mm. So we're gonna have to start recording this show for YouTube. Oh, hell. Get some cameras in here.
• 25:27
Get some fingers and some nose picking going on and shit like that. I'm right there.
• 25:30
[laughs] So, uh, the deal with, the deal with Schlick, um, John basically gave me the company 'cause he doesn't have real time to work on stuff anymore, or money, which is probably more important.
• 25:40
But, uh, it, read the first page of the Schlick Cycles site. This all came up 'cause I had to move the server because he's shutting down a bunch of other websites, and this was on that server. Mm-hmm.
• 25:52
And I, I redid the front page, which says what the heck we're doing, which is basically concentrating on the Shark, an electric version of the Shark. Mm-hmm.
• 26:00
Which needs some refinement, but we have two working prototypes, and I would like to- Mm-hmm... see that through, which gives me a bike project, but not a retail bike store, which is part of my dream. Sounds a good idea.
• 26:13
Yeah, right? Oh. I, having ridden an electrified Shark, I think that's a good idea. It is a, it is a good idea. It was a very scary ride, by the way. I'm gonna do some more refining before...
• 26:29
We h- we have a design change to do so we can get the battery nice and low, put that center of gravity way down there just off the ground like an IndyCar. Yep. Um, so yeah, more coming with that. We'll probably do a...
• 26:40
We're gonna do a video. We, these video, like I said, videos, they're, they're something new for the kids. Uh, was it, did you send me the 30% off Vans link, or was that you? Yeah, it was me.
• 26:51
30% off Vans, I didn't even know they made all-weather shoes. Same here. And- I didn't know that either... and Vans fit me just right, and like my go-to. Did you or- Yeah... did you order any?
• 26:59
Because some of those were quite spendy. Yeah. That's, yeah. Uh, but 30% off of 180 is way better than 180. Yeah. The- they're just interesting. That makes sense.
• 27:06
Some of them, actually, and like even the, like the weird all-terrain slippers I got, but they got the checkerboard. I got some Chaco all-terrain slippers that I love. They're so great.
• 27:16
Uh, so 30% off, but I did do some checking around there, and that stuff is going very fast. So, um- Oh, yeah, where it just has like the special like, oh yeah, if you're a size seven. Yeah, the one... Right.
• 27:25
No, the black one, the black boot, the all-weather, the baddest ass one, whatever they call it, the MTE 3. Four and a half in women's was the only [laughs] size they had left. [laughs] I'm like, yeah.
• 27:37
Molly and, uh, Cleone came home with a set of Vans for Daniel, and Sam was over on Sunday to get a, uh, head tube cutter saw, and he looks at him and he's like, "I have those exact same Vans."
• 27:49
[laughs] I'm like, "And his feet are almost as big as yours." [laughs] Wow. Well, so you might wanna k- check that out and get in on that if you can. Uh, I- Link in the show notes. Yeah, I am looking at the show notes.
• 28:02
I put this in a couple weeks ago and didn't really get to it, and I'm not sure why. Only because I'm an RC guy, radio control guy. Mm-hmm.
• 28:09
Doing the airplanes and the, and the trucks and the racing and the cars and all that stuff. Vroom. So there's a couple guys- Vroom... out there that are pretty popular in the bike world. Vroom.
• 28:17
Steve-o Knievel, for one, who's a RC truck guy. Yeah. And, and Mike Reimer, who used to be, I think was the, basically the head of Salsa. Salsa. Um, are also RC truck guys- Hmm...
• 28:27
doing like s- super- Like Traxxas stuff or?... super scale kinda builds and stuff of more- Oh, is it gas?... kinda like rock crawling. No, more electric. Well. Definitely. Definitely electric.
• 28:36
So I don't know what it is about bike guys and RC, but maybe, maybe there's a thing there. We could get like a group on Facebook, RC and bike guys, with at least three people in it to start it out.
• 28:46
And you have to bring your RC equipment by bike. I used... Well, so for flying I had a very nice thing on my, my sh- my Schlick long tail bike that could carry three planes, 'cause they're fairly small. Huh.
• 28:59
These particular ones. And they fold, and they, they disassemble, so they were... I could ride over to the lakefront and loft them off a hill and fly around to my heart's content. Cool. Which I did. All right. Uh,
• 29:14
I think that's about it. I don't got nothing else on here. Well, there's stuff on here, but I'm not gonna go into the races because if you're racing fat bikes, I don't even know if any of these races are going on.
• 29:23
'Cause there's no snow or- Right. I know the Iola Snow Bully race, which is tonight actually, uh, was canceled.
• 29:30
I know that the people at, uh, Polar Roll over there in, in, in the Michigan Marquette area have said, "It's happening. Don't worry about it. Just be prepared." [laughs] So who knows, who knows what you get.
• 29:42
You get the dice that are rolled that day. Yeah. [laughs] But I'm, I'm not sure about these other ones. Well, here's what I would do. If I were me, and I am,
• 29:50
I would go ahead and look at the website and make sure that the event you wanna go to is happening and hasn't been postponed and/or canceled. And that's, that's fat bike news right there. De-de de-de-de-de.
• 30:04
I think if I push the button, we can, we can end this, this, this- Just like that... this show number 239. Go to the show notes, please. Look at what's going on there. Leave us a message at 717-727-2453.
• 30:18
Especially about that- That spells bite... especially about that long underwear thing. But if it's not about that l- Long underwear ride- I think you can ba-... coming your way...
• 30:24
I think you can babble for, I don't know, a, a good five minutes or something if you really got something to say. But try to keep- Exactly... try to keep it short. Yeah, we don't have the beep at the end.
• 30:32
It's not like an old-timey answering machine. Always. I'll, I'll edit it if I have to. All right, everybody. Next week, 240 coming up. Wow. Yeah.
• 30:44
