- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to The Favorites, the podcast presented by BET three
- 0:12Speaker 1: six five. We are part of the Volume Podcast Network.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I am Chad Moman, Chief Content Officer of the Action Network.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm joined as always by my co host, my companion,
- 0:27Speaker 1: my Campadre, my BFF professional better Simon Hunter. Hello, so ointment.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Hello Chad. How you doing? Brother?
- 0:37Speaker 1: I feel kind of great. You know. I was in
- 0:41Speaker 1: the city for the past two days, and I got
- 0:43Speaker 1: home last night and I was sitting on the couch
- 0:47Speaker 1: with my wife. I was able to distract her long
- 0:50Speaker 1: enough from watching yet another season of Arrested Development to
- 0:56Speaker 1: talk about how excited I am that we're getting to
- 0:59Speaker 1: the star of the season every year in August. You
- 1:03Speaker 1: might feel this way too as a professional Better, Like,
- 1:07Speaker 1: I feel like we are on the precipice of falling
- 1:09Speaker 1: apart until these games start. Like everyone is so antsy,
- 1:13Speaker 1: everyone is so ready, everyone is so excited, Like we
- 1:17Speaker 1: just got to get to some freaking games. We got
- 1:19Speaker 1: college football Week zero starting on Saturday. We got Week
- 1:23Speaker 1: one for college football the week after. Then we are
- 1:25Speaker 1: into NFL. We are in our final installment of our
- 1:31Speaker 1: annual NFL Division Preview series. We are discussing the Nfcwash,
- 1:36Speaker 1: which I'm psyched about because you have said all offseason
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Niners to you have the best roster in the NFL.
- 1:43Speaker 1: We are going to put that theory to the test.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I will also tell you, Simon, I got a lot
- 1:49Speaker 1: of text from people over the last forty eight hours
- 1:53Speaker 1: about how high you are on the Raiders. One body
- 1:57Speaker 1: texted me and said, I nearly fell off the elliptical
- 2:01Speaker 1: when I heard Simon say how much he loved the Raiders.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And then I got another text from Mike Kerns, who
- 2:10Speaker 1: you know is the partner at the Churning Group who
- 2:14Speaker 1: approached me to launch Action in May of twenty seventeen,
- 2:19Speaker 1: before any of this existed. He's all on board with
- 2:22Speaker 1: you on the Raiders. All on board.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It's a sad day when everyone is shocked that someone
- 2:28Speaker 2: said the Raiders can go eight to nine. It's dark
- 2:30Speaker 2: days right now for the Raiders. But yeah, this this
- 2:34Speaker 2: division is gonna be a little different the last division.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Right this division actually has some themes that we think
- 2:39Speaker 2: can make it to Super Bowl and like the last division,
- 2:42Speaker 2: so I'm excited to break this one down. Like you said,
- 2:45Speaker 2: the Air is getting Cripschad That's how you know football
- 2:47Speaker 2: is here. You go outside, it's sixty degrees out in
- 2:50Speaker 2: the northeast, are like, okay, this is football weather.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It totally feels like that. Oh my god. I was
- 2:54Speaker 1: walking around yesterday and like jeans and a longsleeve shirt,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and I'm thinking to myself, this is my favorite weather
- 3:01Speaker 1: for clothes.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It's the best.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Like I could wear these kind of clothes all day
- 3:06Speaker 1: every day. Maybe a light fleece, you know, maybe a
- 3:10Speaker 1: farty blazer. That's it. That's perfect. As a reminder of

- 4:43Speaker 1: is off the charts. Like fall weather in New York
- 4:47Speaker 1: is conquer the city weather. You walk around in the
- 4:49Speaker 1: streets and you're like, I got this thing on lockdown,
- 4:52Speaker 1: so I am ready to roll today. Simon Foe of
- 4:57Speaker 1: Vim and Vigor. As a reminder, as of said in
- 5:00Speaker 1: every one of our division preview episodes, nineteen of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: past twenty one seasons, an NFL team has gone from
- 5:07Speaker 1: worst to first in its division. Well, it happened in
- 5:11Speaker 1: the NFC West last year, first place San Francisco forty
- 5:14Speaker 1: nine Ers, last place Arizona Cardinals. Here we go to
- 5:23Speaker 1: Sisco San Francisco forty nine Ers right now six to
- 5:30Speaker 1: one to win the Super Bowl. Minus one ninety five
- 5:34Speaker 1: in the division, eleven and a half is the win total.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Their strength of schedule fifteenth most difficult overall, it doesn't
- 5:46Speaker 1: appear to be that hard by ranking, but as we've
- 5:50Speaker 1: discussed with Warren Sharp, as Chris Raybond has said in
- 5:54Speaker 1: the Action Network podcast with Stuckey, which everybody should be
- 5:57Speaker 1: listening to, they have one of the worst rested advantages
- 6:00Speaker 1: in the league and they have three short week road games.
- 6:07Speaker 1: That is not easy. This is a team that historically,
- 6:12Speaker 1: as we've already seen in the preseason, will suffer from injuries.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Suffer from injuries. Two key players, whether it's McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Debo, whomever,
- 6:23Speaker 1: that could have an impact on their ability to reach
- 6:26Speaker 1: more than eleven and a half wins. O Line rank
- 6:29Speaker 1: twenty four. Surprisingly, we're part of the team only Trent
- 6:32Speaker 1: Williams is really the standout. We know there's issues there,
- 6:35Speaker 1: doesn't really matter though, like I know, we're going to
- 6:38Speaker 1: talk about this, but Shanahan's scheme is so good they
- 6:40Speaker 1: can get away with a weaker offensive line maybe d
- 6:44Speaker 1: line rank second Nick Bosa, Perennial DPOY candidate number three,
- 6:49Speaker 1: overall ed rusher Javon Vargrave, Top twenty five, Greater interior alignment.
- 6:54Speaker 1: According to PFF, you love this team, You love this roster,
- 7:00Speaker 1: super Bowl hangover, he's brought party a manager. Bill Barnwell
- 7:04Speaker 1: doesn't think they should pay him big bucks. I don't know, Simon,
- 7:09Speaker 1: can we be fading eleven and a half wins with
- 7:12Speaker 1: this a Francisco forty nine ers?
- 7:14Speaker 2: Even a month ago, I would have said, no, this
- 7:16Speaker 2: is this is the perctly built teams. They're ready to
- 7:18Speaker 2: go on one last run before it all kind of
- 7:20Speaker 2: falls apart. It might be falling apart. Chat like, I
- 7:23Speaker 2: know the most important guy on this team, Trent Williams,
- 7:27Speaker 2: a man you mentioned. I wish you had brought up
- 7:29Speaker 2: that stat. You had this amazing stat last season where
- 7:32Speaker 2: we kept fading them when he didn't play, and it
- 7:34Speaker 2: was just basically, they're a totally different team. Kyle Shannan
- 7:38Speaker 2: team is totally different when he is not on the field,
- 7:41Speaker 2: and it's we're talking you know, seven years of data
- 7:45Speaker 2: right when he when he first got there, the first
- 7:47Speaker 2: thing he did was bring him along from Washington. This
- 7:51Speaker 2: is a big deal, Like, this isn't something where you
- 7:54Speaker 2: can just say, well, like you, I just told you
- 7:56Speaker 2: their offensive line was already really bad talked about. He
- 8:00Speaker 2: was the key, like he is the guy that makes
- 8:03Speaker 2: it all work. He's the one that he calls all
- 8:06Speaker 2: the signs, he knows everything for that defense, for that
- 8:08Speaker 2: offensive line. So the fact that he's not in the building,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and you know, the fact that if you if you
- 8:16Speaker 2: can't you know, understand how big of a deal Brandon
- 8:19Speaker 2: a Yuki is to blocking. It's a big deal. Like
- 8:22Speaker 2: he's one of the best blocking receivers in football. And
- 8:24Speaker 2: then you add to the fact that you know, this
- 8:26Speaker 2: guy had over one thousand and four yards and only
- 8:28Speaker 2: seventy five receptions. It's crazy, it really is. So you know,
- 8:33Speaker 2: this this is a team that right now, if at
- 8:36Speaker 2: a top five most important guys on their offensive side
- 8:38Speaker 2: of the ball, I would say they're missing number one
- 8:41Speaker 2: and number five right now. Like to me, they're they're
- 8:44Speaker 2: missing some really important pieces to this offense. And it's
- 8:49Speaker 2: Chad you said it were two weeks away, like literally
- 8:51Speaker 2: from two weeks mean, Chad will be in New York
- 8:53Speaker 2: and it's totally over. So it's it's a big deal.
- 8:57Speaker 2: So this is a team that I wanted to be
- 8:59Speaker 2: high on and now we might not. You know, not
- 9:03Speaker 2: that not that I don't have a dollar invest in
- 9:05Speaker 2: this team, but I haven't put a dollar more since
- 9:08Speaker 2: August first. Right, this is a team I've just been
- 9:11Speaker 2: I took a step back on just because what you
- 9:13Speaker 2: just said. Chat because I told you, if they don't
- 9:14Speaker 2: have these guys end of the season, now we're dropping
- 9:17Speaker 2: them down my list, like they're not, you know, a
- 9:19Speaker 2: top four, top five team if they have these two
- 9:22Speaker 2: guys out, Like that's such a huge deal to this
- 9:24Speaker 2: team where rock Curty needs all these guys to make
- 9:27Speaker 2: it work. As great as he's been, he's great because
- 9:30Speaker 2: the pieces around him, Like we say, he is a
- 9:32Speaker 2: good player, but he needs the pieces around him. And
- 9:34Speaker 2: in his career, his huge advantage was he's never lost
- 9:38Speaker 2: in his career to anyone in this division. Chef. Again,
- 9:40Speaker 2: it doesn't sound real, people, but that's the truth. Now
- 9:44Speaker 2: there is some weakness there, like there is something we
- 9:47Speaker 2: can build on with these other teams and try to
- 9:49Speaker 2: take advantage of So this went from being a really
- 9:52Speaker 2: boring division that we thought it would just kind of
- 9:54Speaker 2: kind of be business as usual too. They're all the
- 9:57Speaker 2: teams in this division should have some type of hope
- 9:59Speaker 2: if this is really how their season is going to start,
- 10:01Speaker 2: Because if Trent Williams does come in, you think he's
- 10:04Speaker 2: just going to pick right up. The dude's like thirty six.
- 10:06Speaker 2: He's gonna need a couple of weeks to get his
- 10:08Speaker 2: body right, give his legs back. Same goes with AYUK.
- 10:11Speaker 2: So it is a really interesting scenario right now, Chada,
- 10:13Speaker 2: where I want to tell people to take their under
- 10:17Speaker 2: but I'm a little hesitant too. I'd rather take value
- 10:19Speaker 2: other places in this division rather than giving this one out.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Well, look, Trent Williams, just so we're clear, there are
- 10:25Speaker 1: contract situations with AYUK. There are contract situations with Trent Williams.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan as recently as yesterday, less than twenty four
- 10:33Speaker 1: hours ago, said he's in contact with Trent Williams. Said
- 10:37Speaker 1: he feels like they are getting close to a new
- 10:40Speaker 1: deal that will get Trent Williams back into camp and
- 10:44Speaker 1: back on the team. But that is a tricky one,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and the stat you're talking about was last year. I
- 10:52Speaker 1: don't have it in front of me, but this is
- 10:54Speaker 1: directionally accurate enough to show his influence. When Trent william
- 11:00Speaker 1: and Deebo Samuel were on the field, the Niners were
- 11:03Speaker 1: undefeated and winning games by multiple touchdowns. When Trent Williams
- 11:08Speaker 1: and Deebo Samuel were not on the field, the Niners
- 11:11Speaker 1: were a five hundred team. Like they are. The lynchpins
- 11:15Speaker 1: to this offense. What Trent Williams is able to do
- 11:19Speaker 1: along the foundational elements of the offensive line with Deebo
- 11:22Speaker 1: Samuel can do out of multiple positions, whether there's a
- 11:26Speaker 1: wide receiver or at running back. They need both of
- 11:29Speaker 1: these guys to make it go. Trant Williams isn't there.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That is a huge loss for an offensive line. That
- 11:34Speaker 1: is kind of you know, mid as. The kids like
- 11:39Speaker 1: to say, it's meh, mid blah whatever.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 11:44Speaker 1: The like least enthusiastic, most dismissive face a teenager can give.
- 11:51Speaker 1: That is the forty nine Ers offensive line. But here's
- 11:56Speaker 1: what gets interesting to me always. I don't think there's
- 12:01Speaker 1: a coach in the NFL other than Kyle Shanahan, who
- 12:05Speaker 1: there's not a coach in the NFL who enjoys playing
- 12:10Speaker 1: with the pieces and is less phased by losing pieces
- 12:16Speaker 1: than Kyle Shanahan. His scheme is so good and he
- 12:20Speaker 1: is so smart about game planning and building plays like
- 12:25Speaker 1: it worries me, but I'm not going to fade him.
- 12:29Speaker 1: It makes me less confident they're the best team in
- 12:31Speaker 1: the NFC. But he is such a good coach, such
- 12:35Speaker 1: a good game planning coach.
- 12:37Speaker 2: He is, but used to read a crazy study. He
- 12:40Speaker 2: was like a below five hundred coach for most of
- 12:43Speaker 2: his career, and we always said it's because he never
- 12:45Speaker 2: had his guy at quarterback.
- 12:46Speaker 1: He never knows his quarterback and he goes through like
- 12:49Speaker 1: this team has just been snake bit with injuries. I mean,
- 12:51Speaker 1: how many years has this team been hurt with had
- 12:56Speaker 1: a key players injured for linked period of times and
- 13:01Speaker 1: then a domino effect, right, Like there have been years
- 13:03Speaker 1: where they're playing second thirsteen quarterbacks the entire season. So
- 13:07Speaker 1: I give him some benefit of the doubt, like when
- 13:09Speaker 1: the team is healthy. He also takes the NFC title
- 13:12Speaker 1: games into the Super Bowl.
- 13:14Speaker 2: I agree, But that's that's the problem here though, is
- 13:16Speaker 2: that we're talking about a team that the coach that
- 13:21Speaker 2: not that he needs things perfect, but he had it
- 13:23Speaker 2: perfect right. All the pieces are here right now. It's
- 13:27Speaker 2: really the defense. Even if their biggest weakness was the
- 13:29Speaker 2: secondary of the quarterback position, even that's been improved. Like
- 13:33Speaker 2: it's it's all built for right now. And it feels
- 13:37Speaker 2: like they're shooting themselves in the foot chat just not
- 13:39Speaker 2: getting these deals done. And the Trent Williams things just
- 13:42Speaker 2: mind blowing the fact that he has not been in
- 13:44Speaker 2: camp and the season starts in two weeks. It's just
- 13:48Speaker 2: it is crazy where I get it. He's older, so
- 13:50Speaker 2: it's like, well, they weren't going to push him that
- 13:51Speaker 2: hard anyway. He needs to get his body right, Like
- 13:53Speaker 2: even when I think Jason Kelsey was talking about it,
- 13:56Speaker 2: like you need to be in camp, you need to
- 13:58Speaker 2: get those football players underneath their belly because it just
- 14:00Speaker 2: gets you back into that rhythm. So he was saying
- 14:03Speaker 2: when he got older, Kelsey said, it takes a minute
- 14:05Speaker 2: to get his body right and get back into that
- 14:07Speaker 2: football shape. Like we said, Chad, the guy has less
- 14:10Speaker 2: than two weeks. I mean, okay, we hop off the
- 14:12Speaker 2: show he signs. Maybe I'll be like, Okay, I can
- 14:15Speaker 2: see why you want to take their over and maybe
- 14:17Speaker 2: take their division, but we're going to go through this
- 14:19Speaker 2: division here, these different teams. I think this is the
- 14:22Speaker 2: best this division's been and I don't know, five six years,
- 14:25Speaker 2: so it's the worst possible year for this team to
- 14:28Speaker 2: kind of be coming in a week. That's why I'm
- 14:30Speaker 2: just sounding the alarm here because it is such a
- 14:32Speaker 2: big deal. Yeap.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Before we go on to the next thing, here's a
- 14:35Speaker 1: quick word from our producer, Matt Mitchell.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Okay, last, but not least, Uncle Mitch.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Hey, Thanks Chad. I want to thank everyone for listening
- 14:46Speaker 3: to the show. I also want to thank all of
- 14:49Speaker 3: our loyal listeners for leaving so many reviews on Apple
- 14:53Speaker 3: Podcasts for us. As we say, every episode, feedback is
- 14:56Speaker 3: indeed a gift, and that's true now that ever before,
- 15:00Speaker 3: I also want to thank are most loyalisteners, without whom
- 15:03Speaker 3: I would not have a job. So I love and
- 15:05Speaker 3: appreciate every single one of you always, But many of
- 15:09Speaker 3: our most loyal listeners have voiced their concerns and irritations
- 15:14Speaker 3: regarding the amount of advertising on this program since our
- 15:18Speaker 3: move over to the volume. I see you I hear you.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I acknowledge you. I work in audio brothers and sisters,
- 15:25Speaker 3: I get it. But there's nothing I can do about that.
- 15:28Speaker 3: There's nothing chatter Simon can do about that. We're part
- 15:31Speaker 3: of volume now, that's part of iHeart. That's just how
- 15:34Speaker 3: the sausage is made in this particular sausage factory. So
- 15:38Speaker 3: I'm sorry about that. I'll just add it to the
- 15:41Speaker 3: ten thousand things in my life that I don't like
- 15:45Speaker 3: but over which I have zero control. So please enjoy
- 15:49Speaker 3: the free podcast. I hope you have a great season.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Let's win lots of bunny go bills, hug your mother,
- 15:55Speaker 3: and without further ado, here's some ads.
- 16:00Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about the Rams, because the Rams
- 16:02Speaker 1: continue to be one of those teams that I think
- 16:05Speaker 1: you and I are impressed by and for some reason,
- 16:11Speaker 1: have been the last two seasons undervalued in the market.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Rams thirty to one to win the Super Bowls plus
- 16:19Speaker 1: three point thirty to win the division. Season win totals
- 16:24Speaker 1: eight and a half. Strength of schedule. Again, strength of
- 16:28Speaker 1: schedule is based on the projected win loss totals for
- 16:34Speaker 1: the season of their opponents, based on what oddsmakers are
- 16:40Speaker 1: saying sixteenth, most difficult O line rank sixteenth, really really
- 16:46Speaker 1: strong run blocking unit. Kevin Dotson second highest rated overall
- 16:51Speaker 1: guard according to Pro Football Focused in twenty twenty three,
- 16:54Speaker 1: got a massive new contract. D line ranks twenty three. Obviously,
- 16:58Speaker 1: the loss of Aaron Donald huge impact on the overall
- 17:01Speaker 1: skill of this unit. They have loaded up on D
- 17:04Speaker 1: line prospects. Right Kobe Turner one of the many second
- 17:07Speaker 1: year players who performed brilliantly as a rookie for them
- 17:10Speaker 1: last year, along with Kyron Williams, along with Pukin Nakua.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He was actually, believe it or not, Kobe Turner top
- 17:18Speaker 1: ten on PFF's list of overall interior alignments. So this
- 17:24Speaker 1: is a team I think we were super impressed with
- 17:26Speaker 1: their draft. We've been super impressed with how Sean McVay
- 17:29Speaker 1: and the executive staff there have turned this roster around
- 17:35Speaker 1: and went from all in got to win the Super
- 17:38Speaker 1: Bowl to now coaching young players up. On my mind
- 17:44Speaker 1: is over eight and a half.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I don't mind it, but it's definitely a team that
- 17:49Speaker 2: coming into the year I was gonna be really high on.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And not that the Aaron Donald stuff suck there out
- 17:55Speaker 2: of the room, but it did a little bit for
- 17:56Speaker 2: me chat and then you add in the top that
- 17:58Speaker 2: this is most likely Staffs last year for the Rams,
- 18:01Speaker 2: Like it seems like they're kind of cooking the books
- 18:04Speaker 2: and get ready to kind of you know, not saying
- 18:06Speaker 2: they're one of the teams like the Raiders or the
- 18:08Speaker 2: Jets who want Dak Prescott, but that's what you year
- 18:11Speaker 2: behind the scenes, like these are the teams that have
- 18:14Speaker 2: been chatting that you know, that's the plan for next year,
- 18:17Speaker 2: right is trying to go after Dak. And it sounds crazy,
- 18:20Speaker 2: but they turned Stafford's deal into one year deals. So
- 18:24Speaker 2: I don't want to make it sound like it's all
- 18:25Speaker 2: good for the Rams, like this is by far the
- 18:28Speaker 2: best team, the second best team this division. I fought
- 18:31Speaker 2: that last year. This year it's a little different, like
- 18:33Speaker 2: I actually do like again we're gonna do. I like
- 18:35Speaker 2: the Seawk, I like Arizona. So it's it's easy to
- 18:39Speaker 2: see this team. You know, some people think they can
- 18:41Speaker 2: win it. I also could see this team being the
- 18:44Speaker 2: last place team in this division, like a lot of
- 18:46Speaker 2: there's a lot of options on the table for this
- 18:47Speaker 2: team right now, and it's all because of the unknown,
- 18:50Speaker 2: Like the fact they lost, you know, they did your DC.
- 18:55Speaker 2: That's I want to act like it's not a big deal,
- 18:57Speaker 2: But there's a reason he got that job in Atlanta.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Like he took a young group of guys last year
- 19:02Speaker 2: and turned them into something special. Now he's gone, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: we still believe in Sean McVay, right, that's the whole
- 19:07Speaker 2: point of betting this line right now. It's like I
- 19:10Speaker 2: didn't bet them last year because I knew Puka was
- 19:12Speaker 2: gonna be this incredible sleeper. It was like, Okay, I
- 19:14Speaker 2: had Stafford and I had you know, McVeigh at six
- 19:17Speaker 2: and a half wins. That was crazy to me. I
- 19:21Speaker 2: was getting butchered for I don't know nine weeks. They
- 19:24Speaker 2: were three and six and like literally it was never
- 19:26Speaker 2: any amount of people just just killing me. They went
- 19:29Speaker 2: seven to one end of the season like this. That's
- 19:31Speaker 2: how you want your better teams to be, right. It
- 19:34Speaker 2: takes them in to get going then once they figure
- 19:35Speaker 2: it out. I mean Stafford had them rolling on offense
- 19:39Speaker 2: like they were so good towards the end of the year.
- 19:40Speaker 2: He was barely even passing the ball. They could just
- 19:42Speaker 2: run the ball down your throat and there was nothing
- 19:44Speaker 2: you could do, so eight and a half chat, I'll
- 19:46Speaker 2: bet it with you. I like their over and it's
- 19:48Speaker 2: like an overwill take just because if he does stay
- 19:52Speaker 2: healthy Stafford, how do they not get to this number?
- 19:55Speaker 2: Like this is one of the best offenses in football,
- 19:57Speaker 2: And yeah, their defense is really young, but it's we're
- 19:59Speaker 2: not relying on them to win us games, right. But
- 20:02Speaker 2: the biggest issue at the end of the day, the
- 20:04Speaker 2: reason I won't tell you about the Super Bowl future
- 20:07Speaker 2: is just because Aaron Donald. Like I wish people could
- 20:11Speaker 2: understand why, Like because again people just trying to watch
- 20:13Speaker 2: a film like that. Why people in football just hype
- 20:15Speaker 2: this man so much? But like, Aaron Donald to me
- 20:18Speaker 2: is the best football player I've seen in my life.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Like I didn't see Lawrence Taylor play like I just
- 20:24Speaker 2: Aaron Donald to me. Anytime I put the tape on
- 20:26Speaker 2: the Rage, the control Raged. He played with fighting through
- 20:29Speaker 2: three to you know, two to three different blockers to
- 20:31Speaker 2: get to the quarterback and he do it was just
- 20:34Speaker 2: like incredible. Now that's gone. What I love. Two cha.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I saw they still have his locker untouched, so they're
- 20:39Speaker 2: still opening he comes back, which you know, my tune
- 20:42Speaker 2: might change if he does come back. Mid season. But
- 20:45Speaker 2: you know right now this is a team that there's
- 20:46Speaker 2: other teams in this division. I'd rather put Super Bowl futures
- 20:49Speaker 2: on than the Rams, just because you know there's there's
- 20:52Speaker 2: too there's too many little questions right now in their
- 20:54Speaker 2: defense for me to really get behind them long term.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I feel like Aaron Donald had one of the most
- 21:05Speaker 1: perfect NFL careers. I'm not sure what the comp is
- 21:11Speaker 1: for other sports in the modern era. Steph Curry is
- 21:16Speaker 1: having something similar I think to Aaron Donald, in that
- 21:20Speaker 1: you are synonymous with one team, you win your title,
- 21:26Speaker 1: you are readily acknowledged at the best at your position,
- 21:29Speaker 1: you are readily acknowledged as a transformative player, you are
- 21:35Speaker 1: beloved by a franchise, and then you get out. And
- 21:43Speaker 1: he did it in a modern era where there is
- 21:46Speaker 1: so much changeover made so much money. It's easier to
- 21:50Speaker 1: do it when you're George Brett or Walter Payton, or
- 21:55Speaker 1: even a little bit Barry Sanders like to do it
- 21:58Speaker 1: the way that he has done, or a guy like
- 22:00Speaker 1: Steph Curry, those are the two things that that's the
- 22:03Speaker 1: guy who immediately comes to mind. We're in an age
- 22:06Speaker 1: of transition, an age of being able to move because
- 22:09Speaker 1: of the money when you were at the top of
- 22:12Speaker 1: your game. It's just amazing that he did what he
- 22:16Speaker 1: did and got out the way he did and.
- 22:18Speaker 2: In his prime like he was. I think he was
- 22:20Speaker 2: the third highest graded the tackle in football last year.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I think at the end of the day, we all
- 22:25Speaker 2: know how much work these guys put in, and he
- 22:27Speaker 2: just said, like, I don't got the love for it anymore,
- 22:31Speaker 2: Like he doesn't. That's what made him so special is
- 22:33Speaker 2: he loved the work, like he was just putting so
- 22:35Speaker 2: much work in the off season. He said, she's the
- 22:38Speaker 2: off season hit. He realized, like, I just don't love
- 22:40Speaker 2: the grind anymore. So, Yeah, it's it's honestly, if you're
- 22:43Speaker 2: a football fan, it's a it's sad, sad day to
- 22:46Speaker 2: think about him not playing football this year. It's just
- 22:48Speaker 2: one of the all time greats and now he's just going.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan. It's the eternal question, who would
- 22:58Speaker 1: you rather have coaching your team?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Well, I mean we talk all the time head to head,
- 23:04Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan. He owns McVeigh right, ched. I mean we
- 23:07Speaker 2: always talk whenever they play. We like to take whoever
- 23:11Speaker 2: the dog is in the matchup, and you know historically
- 23:15Speaker 2: we've covered but the team that's the dog just does
- 23:19Speaker 2: not win, Like whoever's the favorite usually wins these matchups.
- 23:22Speaker 2: So yeah, if I had to pick one, I'm with you.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Though McVay has got the jewelry. I just there's something
- 23:29Speaker 2: about that Kyle Shanahan run blocking scheme. I just can't
- 23:32Speaker 2: get away from it.
- 23:33Speaker 1: It is so weird, right because if you look at it,
- 23:37Speaker 1: Kyle Shannan has a lot of guys who have gone
- 23:39Speaker 1: on to be NFL coaches from his staff. Sean McVay, basically,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you shook the guy's hand at some point in your
- 23:49Speaker 1: coaching career for about four years there you were getting
- 23:52Speaker 1: a job as a coach in the NFL, Right, And
- 23:56Speaker 1: I do think there's something that feels the term of
- 24:02Speaker 1: the moment, if you're paying any attention to politics, I'm
- 24:07Speaker 1: not making a political statement. Is joy. There's something joyful
- 24:12Speaker 1: about the way Sean McVay coaches, something enthusiastic that feels
- 24:17Speaker 1: different than sort of the very business like approach you
- 24:22Speaker 1: get from Kyle Shanahan. Even in like the way you
- 24:25Speaker 1: see them communicate with their teams. You've seen you know,
- 24:28Speaker 1: the behind the scenes or the hard knocks with Sean
- 24:31Speaker 1: McVay and the way he's communicating with the Rams. And
- 24:34Speaker 1: we've seen some of the behind the scenes stuff from
- 24:36Speaker 1: the Receiver show on Netflix with Kittle and Samuel and
- 24:40Speaker 1: the way Kyle Shanahan communicated with his players. I don't
- 24:43Speaker 1: doubt his players love them, but it just feels like
- 24:45Speaker 1: there's a little bit more boyish enthusiasm with Sean McVay.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I wonder if I'd rather play for Sean McVay than
- 24:55Speaker 1: Kyle shann I do, like I wonder if I think
- 24:57Speaker 1: Kyle shann is a genius, He's going to alway, He's
- 25:00Speaker 1: put me in a position to succeed no matter the situation,
- 25:04Speaker 1: unless it's overtime in the Super Bowl. Oh what I
- 25:06Speaker 1: read a play for Sean McVay, who's clearly great at coaching,
- 25:10Speaker 1: but also just might make it ten percent more fun.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Would you take the Rams over?
- 25:15Speaker 1: And now, Yeah, I totally would. Yeah, because of Matthew Stafford.
- 25:20Speaker 1: At the end of the day, I think about what C. J.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Straus said.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I'm saying and I feel like.
- 25:25Speaker 1: You said this, and this is stuck in my head
- 25:26Speaker 1: for two years now, we were underestimating how great Matthew
- 25:30Speaker 1: Stafford is, and I think we have now seen because
- 25:33Speaker 1: he was injured and then came back, and this team
- 25:35Speaker 1: got so much better when he's on, He's on in
- 25:38Speaker 1: any kind of system, and with the talent that they
- 25:40Speaker 1: have Cooper Cup, Puka naku A, Kyron Williams, you know
- 25:44Speaker 1: that is a good offensive team with a lot of confidence.
- 25:48Speaker 1: And I keep thinking about what C. J. Shroud said, like,
- 25:50Speaker 1: if there's one guy he's watching, it's Matthew Stafford that
- 25:53Speaker 1: says everything to me.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, I mean I again, people know my
- 25:57Speaker 2: love for this Rams team. I wish I was higher
- 25:59Speaker 2: on them. It's just I have to take a step back.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yep, I get it. I get it all right. So
- 26:06Speaker 1: you mentioned Seattle sixty five to one to win the
- 26:09Speaker 1: Super Bowl plus seven hundred to win the Division. Seven
- 26:13Speaker 1: and a half is the win totals, strength the schedule
- 26:16Speaker 1: fifteenth easiest O line rank thirty one, loaded with backups,
- 26:23Speaker 1: D line of rank seventeen. But I do think it's
- 26:27Speaker 1: to me, it's seventeen. And if you've got arrows next
- 26:31Speaker 1: to it, it's a green arrow pointing up because I
- 26:34Speaker 1: think this unit has a lot of potential because of
- 26:35Speaker 1: Mike McDonald's scheme. But I was surprised to say you're
- 26:39Speaker 1: high on Seattle. I know we're going to get to Arizona,
- 26:42Speaker 1: but I'm surprised to say you're high on Seattle. I
- 26:44Speaker 1: didn't have that in our in our sort of cool.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm high in that. I thought they're gonna be
- 26:52Speaker 2: the worst team in football coming to this season. I
- 26:55Speaker 2: was like all in on fading this team, and luckily
- 26:59Speaker 2: someone spoke to me just about what you just said,
- 27:01Speaker 2: Mike McDonald, where it's like I should give this guy
- 27:04Speaker 2: more credit for what he did with the Ravens last year.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Like he was an incredible defensive schemer. He put all
- 27:10Speaker 2: his players in the best positions they could possibly be in,
- 27:12Speaker 2: and even that playoff loss that was not on him,
- 27:15Speaker 2: Like he did really well against that Chiefs team in
- 27:18Speaker 2: the playoffs.
- 27:18Speaker 1: We all know what that playoff loss was about.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. So I hated this team coming to the
- 27:26Speaker 2: season just because Chad just said, you have Gino Smith
- 27:29Speaker 2: behind arguably one of the worst offensive lines of football.
- 27:31Speaker 2: To me, that screams disaster, right, Chad, Like, I don't
- 27:35Speaker 2: know how they're going to make that work. But now
- 27:37Speaker 2: you're gonna mix in. They have such a great mind
- 27:39Speaker 2: on defense where it's like, okay, maybe they'll just play
- 27:42Speaker 2: super smart conservative, like they can make it work. Can
- 27:46Speaker 2: they win this division? No, But we got a team
- 27:50Speaker 2: coming up that might be able to. But this isn't
- 27:52Speaker 2: the team I'm really gonna bet large futures on just
- 27:55Speaker 2: for them winning the division. But it is a team that,
- 27:57Speaker 2: you know, I do have him at seven wins the
- 27:59Speaker 2: or over runner seven and a half. Thankfully I'm towards
- 28:01Speaker 2: the under. I don't mind if they're a little on
- 28:04Speaker 2: the over here. Again, I just like this division. It's
- 28:06Speaker 2: like I can see it breaking the right way for
- 28:08Speaker 2: them that you know, if it's Sam Howard, you know
- 28:10Speaker 2: Smith that quarterback. They have the weapons, like we talked about,
- 28:13Speaker 2: they have really good guys on the outside. It's just
- 28:16Speaker 2: what are we gonna get from this offensive line. It's
- 28:18Speaker 2: like that's the biggest question, or that's why I can't
- 28:21Speaker 2: bet them to win this division because it's like, even
- 28:24Speaker 2: if I'm running the perfect simulation of the perfect world
- 28:27Speaker 2: where everything breaks right for them, I never had them
- 28:29Speaker 2: breaking eleven wins, and I think you need to have
- 28:31Speaker 2: over eleven wins to win this division. So this is
- 28:34Speaker 2: the team I am really excited about. But that's the biggest,
- 28:37Speaker 2: the biggest fear right now. It's just the old line,
- 28:39Speaker 2: like you're one of the worst in football. It doesn't
- 28:42Speaker 2: look like there's anything on the horizon. Look, there's no
- 28:44Speaker 2: guys out there that could add or trades they can
- 28:47Speaker 2: make to really improve it. At this point, it is
- 28:48Speaker 2: what it is right So to me, this is the
- 28:51Speaker 2: team that we're gonna learn really quickly by October kind
- 28:54Speaker 2: of what their identity is, what their personality is, are
- 28:56Speaker 2: their new head coach and if he is the savior
- 28:58Speaker 2: of with this defense, because you like, they got the guys,
- 29:01Speaker 2: Like on defense, they do have a lot of really
- 29:03Speaker 2: good pieces, even to the secondary. It's like they've been
- 29:06Speaker 2: drafting for the secondary the last couple of years and
- 29:09Speaker 2: it's like, okay, now you have you have the players,
- 29:11Speaker 2: you have the first round picks. You just needed the
- 29:14Speaker 2: teacher to come in and kind of make it work.
- 29:15Speaker 2: So Pete Carroll got a little bit of a rod deal,
- 29:19Speaker 2: but they're much better at where they're at right now,
- 29:21Speaker 2: going with a really sharp defensive mind. When the best
- 29:24Speaker 2: on football, and they would have been rolling it back
- 29:26Speaker 2: with another year of Pete Carroll, which got nothing against Pete.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I just think of all the older coaches, I understood
- 29:31Speaker 2: the most why they were like, Okay, we need change here.
- 29:34Speaker 2: So you know, a ton of pressure on Meg McDonald
- 29:37Speaker 2: year one. It could be a total disaster. I mean
- 29:40Speaker 2: that's what I really thought it was going to be
- 29:41Speaker 2: a couple of months ago. But I've just come around
- 29:43Speaker 2: on his coaching style where it's like, now you're gonna
- 29:45Speaker 2: have this defense ready every week. They're gonna be on
- 29:47Speaker 2: the more prepared teams. The biggest question chat is going
- 29:50Speaker 2: to be offensive line and can they keep that quarterback healthy.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I really wish Matt Mitchell you might have to find
- 29:57Speaker 1: the drop. I believe it was this time last year
- 30:01Speaker 1: where Simon Hunter might have declared Jackson Smith and Jigba,
- 30:07Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett and DK metcalf as the greatest trio of
- 30:13Speaker 1: receivers in history. Am I am? I misremembering that?
- 30:19Speaker 2: You are? You keep mis remembering the end sentence. Possibly
- 30:23Speaker 2: I don't remember. I left myself. Yeah, don't worry, I
- 30:26Speaker 2: left myself and out. We went back and looked I
- 30:29Speaker 2: left myself and out.
- 30:30Speaker 1: So I don't remember any qualifiers. I just remember the
- 30:36Speaker 1: enormity of the statement.
- 30:38Speaker 4: The phrase he used was arguably the best wide receiver
- 30:41Speaker 4: room in history. So arguably was the qualifier. Like saying,
- 30:46Speaker 4: you know, buffalo wings are arguably better with ranch versus
- 30:50Speaker 4: blue cheese.
- 30:51Speaker 3: It's just factually incorrect and it makes you look like
- 30:55Speaker 3: kind of an asshole.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Well, I just don't because people don't understand because they're
- 30:58Speaker 2: up in the middle of nowhere the West Coast. It's
- 30:59Speaker 2: like DK is a stud, Tyler Lockett's a stud, and
- 31:03Speaker 2: Jim Budd is just I don't know. I loved him
- 31:05Speaker 2: at Ohio State, so I.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Didn't you're he was great last there's no yeah.
- 31:09Speaker 2: But at the end of that I put that on
- 31:11Speaker 2: Geno Smith, like he has the weapons, but apparently he
- 31:14Speaker 2: does not have the old line.
- 31:16Speaker 1: He does not have the old line. It's interesting. We've
- 31:18Speaker 1: had so many conversations about coaches in the last two episodes.
- 31:22Speaker 1: The literal investment we make in some of them. Right,
- 31:26Speaker 1: you talked about Antonio Peers with the Raiders, and you
- 31:30Speaker 1: you are making an investment if you bet the over
- 31:33Speaker 1: with the Raiders that he is going to be a
- 31:37Speaker 1: version of Mike Tomlin, a version of Mike Tomlin who
- 31:46Speaker 1: can get so much out of this team. Like we
- 31:48Speaker 1: saw at the end of last year, they are not
- 31:51Speaker 1: very talented. And although there are incredible hype videos of
- 31:56Speaker 1: Gardner Minshew working out looking like he's out of the
- 32:01Speaker 1: nineteen seventies, I don't know that Gardner Minshew is going
- 32:05Speaker 1: to turn this team into what we think it can
- 32:07Speaker 1: really what we might expect it to be. Over six
- 32:10Speaker 1: and a half wins, who knows. You're really investing in
- 32:12Speaker 1: Antonio Pearce in his ability to turn that team around.
- 32:15Speaker 1: We just said the same thing about Kyle Shanahan. If
- 32:17Speaker 1: you're investing in the Niners at over eleven and a half,
- 32:20Speaker 1: or even the Rams at over eight and a half,
- 32:22Speaker 1: you're investing in the coach's ability to draw out the
- 32:25Speaker 1: best of their players with their scheme, being able to
- 32:28Speaker 1: overcome injuries, being able to overcome contract holdouts, etc.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Etc.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Mike McDonald, great coordinator at Michigan, great coordinator with Baltimore.
- 32:38Speaker 1: That's a huge investment and a huge statement to be
- 32:40Speaker 1: able to say I would go over seven and a
- 32:42Speaker 1: half because I believe this coach is going to be smart,
- 32:45Speaker 1: enough to figure out what to do with his defense
- 32:46Speaker 1: and keep them in the game and keep the defense
- 32:50Speaker 1: off the field because they're running something conservatively offensively old statement.
- 32:56Speaker 2: That's times what I would do, though, it just seems
- 32:58Speaker 2: like their identity should be their defense, where it's like
- 33:01Speaker 2: they just don't have the pieces yet on offense to
- 33:03Speaker 2: really make that their identity.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Almost as bold as saying Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and
- 33:09Speaker 1: Jackson Smith in Jigma and Jigma are the greatest trio
- 33:13Speaker 1: of receivers in NFL history, not possibly possibly greatest trio
- 33:18Speaker 1: of receivers ever. All right, last team in the NFC West.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I want to love this team, Yeah, I want to
- 33:27Speaker 1: love this team so much. The Arizona Cardinals. One hundred
- 33:31Speaker 1: to one to win the Super Bowl plus thirteen hundred
- 33:35Speaker 1: to win the Division. Six and a half is the
- 33:37Speaker 1: win total seventeenth hardest schedule. This is what started to
- 33:42Speaker 1: worry me when I dug in, because you and I
- 33:45Speaker 1: like superficially been talking about the Cardinals all off season
- 33:47Speaker 1: and a Kyler Murray upswing. And this is when I
- 33:51Speaker 1: got scared. All Line rank twenty six, D line rank
- 33:58Speaker 1: thirty second. They're only thirty two teams in the NFL.
- 34:04Speaker 1: So their pff D line rank heading into the year
- 34:07Speaker 1: thirty second. They played so hard last year they were
- 34:13Speaker 1: two and five in one score games. I know we
- 34:17Speaker 1: all made fun of Jonathan Gannon before the season began
- 34:22Speaker 1: last year. He was so awkward socially in those videos
- 34:25Speaker 1: when he's meeting Kyler Murray or giving pep talks. But
- 34:30Speaker 1: I thought he coached him up and I thought he
- 34:31Speaker 1: had them playing hard no matter the circumstance. And even
- 34:34Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, who had a reputation as being someone who
- 34:39Speaker 1: could be aloof, seemed to be invested in working really hard.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Keep me on the ledge here.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Yeah, this is like the Panthers. The Panthers, we were
- 34:49Speaker 2: what we took them at eleven, ten to one, nine
- 34:53Speaker 2: to one to come worse the first. That's how I
- 34:56Speaker 2: feel about the Cardinals here, Like this is the team
- 34:58Speaker 2: that I'm betting that thirteen to one to win this division.
- 35:02Speaker 2: It's just a team that could shock the world just
- 35:05Speaker 2: because it's all there offensively, Chad like, they got all
- 35:08Speaker 2: the pieces they need. They have a defensive coach. I
- 35:11Speaker 2: think he'll be able to figure it out on defense.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Like do you really think this team's gonna win twelve
- 35:15Speaker 2: thirteen games. No, but there is a world where they
- 35:18Speaker 2: can do it. Like there is a world where this
- 35:20Speaker 2: team can turn around and really have an incredible season.
- 35:22Speaker 2: It's like we've seen that time and time again, and
- 35:24Speaker 2: it happened in the football right. The team gets in
- 35:27Speaker 2: the right scenario with the right offensive pieces and they
- 35:29Speaker 2: can make it work. And that's how I feel here.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Like the fact they took marmon Aris Junior is my
- 35:34Speaker 2: favorite draft pick up the whole draft. Like I love
- 35:37Speaker 2: they could have traded out right, they could have traded back,
- 35:40Speaker 2: maybe got a couple of D lineman Chad. Instead, they
- 35:44Speaker 2: went for the once in a lifetime generational talent, which
- 35:46Speaker 2: I want teams to do. It's like you get the guy,
- 35:48Speaker 2: you get your Larry Fitzgerald. Now they're good, hopefully for
- 35:52Speaker 2: ten to fifteen years at the wire position with marmon
- 35:54Speaker 2: Aris Junior. And you know McBride the tight end and
- 35:57Speaker 2: no one talks about this guy is an absolute stud.
- 36:00Speaker 2: If you look down the stretch, he's one of the
- 36:01Speaker 2: best tight ends in all football. And Kyler Murray loved
- 36:04Speaker 2: using him, like he felt comfortable throwing to this guy.
- 36:06Speaker 2: So you know, we got Kyler year two after the
- 36:09Speaker 2: ACL injury, right, I believe that's what he injured. It's
- 36:12Speaker 2: a big deal, like we should see him back to
- 36:14Speaker 2: his old running self and I mean being Chad's worst
- 36:17Speaker 2: lost of our lives. I think it was on the Raiders.
- 36:19Speaker 2: We had the Raiders against Arizona. I believe they are up,
- 36:22Speaker 2: you know, fourteen, with a couple of minutes to go,
- 36:25Speaker 2: and Arizona comes all the way back and Kyler Murray
- 36:27Speaker 2: ran the length of two football fields on the two
- 36:30Speaker 2: point conversion and just found a guy in the back
- 36:32Speaker 2: of the end zone. Like that's that's what we're hoping here.
- 36:34Speaker 2: It's like this kid does have magic. There's a reason
- 36:37Speaker 2: he was a number one pick, you know, there's a
- 36:39Speaker 2: reason that he's still the guy for this team. And
- 36:41Speaker 2: when I talked to you know, different people that are around
- 36:44Speaker 2: the team and read stuff by the beat writers, it
- 36:46Speaker 2: seems like it seems like Chad that he's gotten over,
- 36:50Speaker 2: you know, his childish stuff of leaving early to go
- 36:52Speaker 2: play video games. It seems like he's growing up where
- 36:55Speaker 2: he is the first guy in, last guy out, which
- 36:58Speaker 2: I know it sounds corny, but to me, that's such
- 36:59Speaker 2: a big deal when you're the quarterback, like you're setting
- 37:01Speaker 2: the example. If you're not working the hardest, what's the point,
- 37:06Speaker 2: Like you're the guy, like you know, at the end
- 37:08Speaker 2: of the day, all that matters is how hard, how
- 37:10Speaker 2: much execution, how much preparedness this quarterback has. And I
- 37:15Speaker 2: feel like Kyle Leer's kind of turned that corner. You
- 37:17Speaker 2: kind of realize you turn into a little bit of
- 37:19Speaker 2: a joke in this league. So I'm just so excited
- 37:21Speaker 2: for this team. It sucks too where they're Of all
- 37:25Speaker 2: the teams we talked about three four months ago, I
- 37:27Speaker 2: felt like this was the most beloved team by most professionals, right, Chad,
- 37:31Speaker 2: like even talking Week one, like the pros love them
- 37:34Speaker 2: when they're plus seven to seven and a half against
- 37:36Speaker 2: the Bills. I think that linees down to six and
- 37:37Speaker 2: a half now for Week one. But this is just
- 37:40Speaker 2: a team that the professionals love, and I think even
- 37:43Speaker 2: these last moments, I've noticed the fantasy football community loves
- 37:47Speaker 2: this team now. Right, they do have these guys on
- 37:49Speaker 2: offense that they do really love. Even if James Connor
- 37:52Speaker 2: goes down. I like the backup trade Benson, like they
- 37:55Speaker 2: have good, good pieces all across the offense. You just
- 37:59Speaker 2: said the question years what is this defense going to be?
- 38:02Speaker 2: Like they gutted this defense and this was a lot
- 38:05Speaker 2: of head coach doing it too right, you wanted to
- 38:07Speaker 2: make this team there's own identity. You're right, Like, could
- 38:10Speaker 2: this team be one of what the worst rush defenses
- 38:13Speaker 2: in all football? They could? Like I have them greater
- 38:15Speaker 2: right next to the Chargers. I do have as the
- 38:17Speaker 2: thirty second worst rush defense. So Arizona could struggle or
- 38:22Speaker 2: I could be totally wrong, and the scheme fixes all
- 38:25Speaker 2: their weaknesses. Right, That's that's the credible part about football,
- 38:28Speaker 2: is the right scheme can fix so many weaknesses. So
- 38:31Speaker 2: this is a team I'm extremely high on. And maybe
- 38:34Speaker 2: maybe I'm drinking a little bit of or having a
- 38:36Speaker 2: little bit of fools goal here, Chad, but I'm just
- 38:38Speaker 2: really excited about this team, what they can be and
- 38:41Speaker 2: the prospects of getting them at thirteen to one to
- 38:43Speaker 2: win this division. Like it just feels like no one's
- 38:46Speaker 2: really believing in them, where I don't think they're that
- 38:48Speaker 2: far away from this Rams team, Like the difference between
- 38:51Speaker 2: those two teams don't feel that different. Where last year
- 38:54Speaker 2: at the same exact time, the Rams defense with the
- 38:57Speaker 2: thirtieth ranked defense and all the football because they were
- 39:00Speaker 2: so young and they gutted that whole team. They turned
- 39:03Speaker 2: it around after a year. And that's what again, that's
- 39:05Speaker 2: what good coaching can do in this league. It's we
- 39:08Speaker 2: talk all the time the difference between the best player
- 39:11Speaker 2: on the starting team and the worst bench player on
- 39:13Speaker 2: a different team is only that much. Like, that's how
- 39:16Speaker 2: incredibly good all these guys in the NFL. I mean,
- 39:19Speaker 2: we joke all the time. You take people like, hey,
- 39:22Speaker 2: watch the preseason. You're like, literally preseason football. These guys
- 39:27Speaker 2: would like the worst preseason team. They would wax Georgia
- 39:30Speaker 2: from last year. Like that's the different step up from
- 39:32Speaker 2: college football the NFL. So my whole thing in people
- 39:35Speaker 2: realizing is that that's how why we talk so much
- 39:39Speaker 2: about coaching, because you know, to me, it goes obviously,
- 39:42Speaker 2: number one always is gonna be the quarterback, but number
- 39:44Speaker 2: two is always the coach. Like when I'm thinking about
- 39:46Speaker 2: the most important pieces to different teams, that's always wherey
- 39:49Speaker 2: lan And you're right, do I have the most extreme
- 39:53Speaker 2: faith in this head coach and uh what he can
- 39:56Speaker 2: bring to the table, I don't. I do have questions,
- 39:59Speaker 2: but then I go back in. There's certain games last
- 40:01Speaker 2: year I watch, I'm just like, he can prepare his
- 40:04Speaker 2: team right and scheme right. I mean that Dallas Cowboys game.
- 40:08Speaker 2: He was in his bag in that game, like he
- 40:10Speaker 2: really knew how to attack Dak because he had seen Dak,
- 40:13Speaker 2: you know, multiple times being on the Eagles staff, right,
- 40:15Speaker 2: he kind of knew had a rhythm to what to
- 40:17Speaker 2: do for putting his team in the best position. So
- 40:20Speaker 2: I think he'll run what he did with the Eagles team,
- 40:22Speaker 2: which is basically just a prevent defense. It's like, Okay,
- 40:26Speaker 2: we'll give up five six yards passing, three four yards rushing.
- 40:31Speaker 2: We'll let you guys go all the way down the field.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Once we get in the red zone, that's when we
- 40:34Speaker 2: clamp down. I think that's exactly the type of defense
- 40:36Speaker 2: he's gonna run this year, where it's like they're just
- 40:38Speaker 2: gonna let teams kind of run it down the field
- 40:41Speaker 2: and then clamp down the red zone. They're gonna trade
- 40:43Speaker 2: out score teams, which again I think they have the
- 40:45Speaker 2: pieces chat on offense to do it. So Yeah, just
- 40:48Speaker 2: like the Panthers, this is another worst the first team.
- 40:50Speaker 2: I'm really excited about like, I just really love all
- 40:52Speaker 2: the pieces they have there, and I could be a
- 40:54Speaker 2: year early. That's the only fear here is I'm a
- 40:56Speaker 2: year early just because they do have some holes they
- 40:59Speaker 2: need to fill. But I can't help it. I'm just
- 41:01Speaker 2: I'm already into it. I'm already so excited for this team.
- 41:04Speaker 2: And yeah, I'm really hoping bank on Kyler Murray taking
- 41:07Speaker 2: that next step, which we all expect he will now
- 41:09Speaker 2: that he's putting the work in, he's kind of grown
- 41:12Speaker 2: up more. I do believe this team will take another
- 41:14Speaker 2: step and you know, shock the world and win this
- 41:18Speaker 2: division at thirteen to one.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Chad, look, I was laughing a second ago as I
- 41:23Speaker 1: put on my glasses and I was looking at my
- 41:25Speaker 1: notes because I can't wait when I wrap this up
- 41:29Speaker 1: to remind people of some of our favorite bets from
- 41:34Speaker 1: our division reviews. And it's so in keeping with how
- 41:41Speaker 1: disgusting everything we do inbedding and what we ask of
- 41:46Speaker 1: our listeners to do. It's actually astonishing the three teams
- 41:50Speaker 1: where if I have notes on this that we are
- 41:53Speaker 1: most excited about, we have spent the most time talking about,
- 41:56Speaker 1: we have been most enthusiastic about. I wish I wish
- 42:00Speaker 1: this could be the show like first Take, where all
- 42:05Speaker 1: we do is talk about the Cowboys. I wish it
- 42:08Speaker 1: would make everything so much easier. We just can't do it.
- 42:12Speaker 1: We're just going to end up investing time in the
- 42:14Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals, and that's where the opportunity is. Kyler Murray's
- 42:17Speaker 1: growing up. I really hope it's true. Kids do grow up, right.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I have a twenty one year old. I have a
- 42:24Speaker 1: seventeen year old. If you had told me when they
- 42:27Speaker 1: were eleven and seven that they would be what they
- 42:31Speaker 1: are today, which is the opposite of completely idiotic boys,
- 42:37Speaker 1: I would have been shocked. But they grow up and
- 42:39Speaker 1: they get smarter, and they get more mature, and they
- 42:42Speaker 1: calm down and they understand their responsibilities and they reprioritize things.
- 42:46Speaker 1: It's just what happens, and hopefully Kyler Murray has done that.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I was certainly really impressed with how we played last year,
- 42:53Speaker 1: how we played in turmoil. Last year. A new situation.
- 42:57Speaker 1: He has a number one receiver, first time he's having
- 42:59Speaker 1: that other than DeAndre Hopkins, and he really didn't get
- 43:02Speaker 1: to play with him as much as he possibly could
- 43:04Speaker 1: have because of injuries and here's what does give me
- 43:06Speaker 1: hope for this team. Okay, outside their division, they have
- 43:12Speaker 1: the Patriots, they have the Commanders, they have the Chargers,
- 43:18Speaker 1: they have the Bears, which we know. I believe they
- 43:21Speaker 1: will go under their overhyped over expected season win total,
- 43:27Speaker 1: which I respect.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Is when every time I could don't watch a Hard Knocks,
- 43:30Speaker 2: I'm like, God, damn, this team is good. So I
- 43:32Speaker 2: respect you're kind of pulling it back because they are
- 43:34Speaker 2: a team.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Listen, I haven't watched this week's episode yet because I
- 43:37Speaker 1: was in the city Tuesday and Wednesday night and got
- 43:39Speaker 1: home late last night and my kid was out doing
- 43:43Speaker 1: his fantasy draft so he wasn't home and I like
- 43:45Speaker 1: to watch.
- 43:46Speaker 2: It with him.
- 43:46Speaker 1: But and they got the Vikings. That's five winnable games
- 43:52Speaker 1: outside the division to me for a team that has
- 43:54Speaker 1: six and a half wins, and they could steal one, right,
- 43:58Speaker 1: they did it last year. They old games against better teams.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I'm not afraid of what we're talking about.
- 44:04Speaker 2: And they're a team where they have important divisional games
- 44:07Speaker 2: early in the year, like you know, they started to
- 44:09Speaker 2: hear with Buffalo. That's that's really tough obviously, but then
- 44:12Speaker 2: they get to come home and play the Rams, right,
- 44:14Speaker 2: and then a couple of weeks later they get to
- 44:16Speaker 2: go to the forty nine ers, Like, we're gonna know
- 44:18Speaker 2: really early on, this team's gonna be battle tested really early, right,
- 44:21Speaker 2: they go Bills Rams Detroit, then they come home there
- 44:25Speaker 2: against Washington. Then they're at the forty nine ers and
- 44:28Speaker 2: then at Green Bay, Like, we're gonna know really really
- 44:31Speaker 2: quick if this was a really dumb better, if this
- 44:33Speaker 2: is like a really good team that you know, was
- 44:35Speaker 2: slept on by people. So I love how their schedule
- 44:38Speaker 2: is because it's like they're gonna get some really good
- 44:41Speaker 2: looks at what kind of offense they're gonna be early
- 44:43Speaker 2: on against pretty talented defenses.
- 44:46Speaker 1: So I was laughing before because I'm looking at my
- 44:49Speaker 1: notes from the past what eight episodes of preview of
- 44:58Speaker 1: previews for the division. The teams that we have been
- 45:02Speaker 1: so enthusiastic about that we've gone all in on that
- 45:06Speaker 1: we are begging people to bet Carolina Panthers over in
- 45:12Speaker 1: the division, the Las Vegas Raiders over six and a half,
- 45:18Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals over in the division. The good news
- 45:24Speaker 1: is we love the Bengals and we have been on
- 45:26Speaker 1: that since early in the offseason, so I do feel
- 45:31Speaker 1: pretty good about that we have.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Still if you want me to be boring, I think
- 45:35Speaker 2: I've told you my biggest bets right now for division.
- 45:38Speaker 2: One of them is Detroit that's pretty boring. Another one's
- 45:41Speaker 2: the Chiefs, pretty boring, another one's the Eagles, pretty boring.
- 45:45Speaker 2: And then the fourth one I guess is a little
- 45:46Speaker 2: more exciting is the Jets. I just love that Jets team.
- 45:49Speaker 2: So if you're like, I don't want to bet that
- 45:52Speaker 2: ugly Simon, I get it. I do have some chalk
- 45:54Speaker 2: out there for you guys if you wouldn't just want
- 45:55Speaker 2: to go chalk, which I got no issue doing. If
- 45:57Speaker 2: I'm going to tie my money for six seven months,
- 46:00Speaker 2: go chalk. But if you do love this show, I'm
- 46:03Speaker 2: gonna need you to go put a futures on the
- 46:06Speaker 2: Panthers and win their division, and go put it futures
- 46:07Speaker 2: on the Cardinals. Like that's what we love and makes
- 46:10Speaker 2: a show so great. I know it sounds dumb and crazy.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Two years ago we gave up the Jags at ten
- 46:15Speaker 2: to one to eleven to one to win their division.
- 46:17Speaker 2: It came through. So it's like, you know, we're not
- 46:20Speaker 2: just blindly making these bets. Not We're not just giving
- 46:22Speaker 2: out these fourth place teams all the times. It's like, Okay,
- 46:24Speaker 2: there's a little method to this madness, and that's that's
- 46:27Speaker 2: what I'm looking for you. It's like, Okay, a team
- 46:28Speaker 2: that people are really down from last year that me
- 46:31Speaker 2: and Chat think the talent's risen above what people perceive
- 46:34Speaker 2: as it has from the previous year. So those are
- 46:37Speaker 2: the teams where even this offseason, like every day I'm
- 46:41Speaker 2: checking the beat writers down to Carolina because I'm just
- 46:44Speaker 2: I can't believe how excited for this Panthers team. But
- 46:46Speaker 2: it's like, I just I love buying low on teams
- 46:49Speaker 2: when they got a new coach, come in when they
- 46:51Speaker 2: have a high draft pick like Bryce Young. So it
- 46:54Speaker 2: just fits our criteria of teams we like to bet,
- 46:56Speaker 2: and you know, I hope people can get there with us.
- 46:59Speaker 2: But I told totally even when you're reading out loud,
- 47:02Speaker 2: I totally get if people are just like I can't
- 47:03Speaker 2: do it. It's like, you know, at Savior Bank Role,
- 47:06Speaker 2: we start some real games in two weeks.
- 47:08Speaker 1: And look, we're going to talk about our best bets
- 47:10Speaker 1: next week. We're gonna have Kyle, like we said, We're
- 47:12Speaker 1: gonna have Stucky and Colin on talking college football Week one,
- 47:16Speaker 1: and Simon and I will also have the last episode
- 47:20Speaker 1: before we get into NFL season, our best Futures Bets
- 47:25Speaker 1: summary of everything, anything we've left off the board. We're
- 47:29Speaker 1: definitely going to talk about the rond Robin bets we
- 47:33Speaker 1: make of Super Bowl matchups, which I love and will
- 47:37Speaker 1: one want to talk about in depth.
- 47:40Speaker 2: But we'll try to find another one. We get at
- 47:43Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill last year, one or two of those as well.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, I think we loved, we loved. Uh. I
- 47:51Speaker 1: think it was Kayleb Williams over thirty six hundred passing yards.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I checked it was thirty thirty two.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just stealing. Had ain't right Even if I
- 48:05Speaker 1: have a rational exuberance, which I know, which I don't.
- 48:10Speaker 1: All you got to do is watch him roll out
- 48:12Speaker 1: fling it like just a flick of the wrist, eight
- 48:17Speaker 1: million yards to Roma Dunes against that defense. Oh you
- 48:22Speaker 1: know what I wanted to say, here we go. No, No,
- 48:25Speaker 1: you made a really good point about bad teams in
- 48:27Speaker 1: the NFL. A couple of years ago, my buddy Matt
- 48:31Speaker 1: called me and he's like, do you think the and
- 48:36Speaker 1: Bama was killing everybody. He's like, I was just having
- 48:40Speaker 1: this debate with one of my kids, do you think
- 48:42Speaker 1: Bama could beat Jacksonville? And I'm like, that's idiotic. He
- 48:48Speaker 1: goes why. I go, let me ask you a question.
- 48:51Speaker 1: How many people on the Alabama roster right now will
- 48:57Speaker 1: end up playing in the NFL. Say there's an eighty
- 49:00Speaker 1: man roster, how many of those guys will play in
- 49:02Speaker 1: the NFL. We landed at like, over that four year cycle,
- 49:09Speaker 1: maybe twenty five guys, And that would be a lot.
- 49:13Speaker 1: So let's say it's that that would be over exaggeration.
- 49:17Speaker 1: So then I said to him, to a little bit
- 49:19Speaker 1: of a trick, question, how many guys in the Jaguars
- 49:22Speaker 1: can play in the NFL? And except how many guys
- 49:26Speaker 1: in the Jaguars roster can play in the NFL? He
- 49:29Speaker 1: goes out, He goes, I don't know, I go all
- 49:33Speaker 1: fifty two of them, You fucking idiot. They're just better
- 49:36Speaker 1: football players. They're better, they're stronger, they're faster, they're older.
- 49:42Speaker 1: The best of every single college team is playing on
- 49:46Speaker 1: the worst NFL team. There's no way a college football
- 49:51Speaker 1: team is ever going to beat an NFL team.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And a joke I always tellt was when I
- 49:56Speaker 2: first went to Vegas, I was a runner. I was
- 49:58Speaker 2: talking to a guy about the basically exactly what you
- 50:01Speaker 2: just said, and he goes, see that guy there, he's
- 50:03Speaker 2: probably the third best cornerback in all football. I think
- 50:05Speaker 2: he was on either BAMO or LSU at the time.
- 50:09Speaker 2: He goes he's going to get drafted by a team.
- 50:10Speaker 2: He's going to sit behind a guy that played at
- 50:12Speaker 2: Stony Brook and UCLA for two years. Like, you don't
- 50:16Speaker 2: get it, Like you're just because you're this big bag
- 50:17Speaker 2: dog right now, once you get to the league, you're
- 50:20Speaker 2: behind even bigger batter dog. So yeah, that's that's the
- 50:23Speaker 2: thing people can't really wrap their head around. That's that's
- 50:25Speaker 2: my whole point. Though. It's just coaching so important because
- 50:28Speaker 2: all these guys have talent. It's the coaches that can
- 50:30Speaker 2: harness the talent put the guys in the best, best situations.
