- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 0:04Speaker 1: six forty.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Obama Obama Obama.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Kfi AM six forty Bill Handle. It is a Thursday morning,
- 0:13Speaker 3: December eighteenth. Just you play the clip of President Trump
- 0:19Speaker 3: is arguing and saying he took on big pharma much
- 0:23Speaker 3: like more So, which is true, by the way, and
- 0:26Speaker 3: the only president to ever take on big pharma.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Not true.
- 0:30Speaker 3: And he brought down prices four hundred, five hundred, six
- 0:34Speaker 3: hundred percent.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Let's do the math the moment.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Okay, if you bring down prices one hundred percent, that
- 0:41Speaker 3: becomes zero. You're getting pharmaceutical for free. But I don't
- 0:46Speaker 3: even know what five hundred percent decrease is. But you
- 0:51Speaker 3: know it's this is a Trump and I don't blame
- 0:54Speaker 3: him for I don't give him any really bad press
- 0:58Speaker 3: on that because that's just the way he operates.
- 1:00Speaker 1: And I find that just kind of fun.
- 1:03Speaker 3: So let's talk about what's going on with this healthcare package.
- 1:08Speaker 3: As you know, come January first, twenty thousand Americans are
- 1:13Speaker 3: going to be nailed on. Twenty million Americans are going
- 1:15Speaker 3: to be nailed on their premiums. They're going to go
- 1:18Speaker 3: up so dramatically and the Republicans at a last effort.
- 1:23Speaker 3: This is this last chance because they've been talking about
- 1:27Speaker 3: better healthcare and they have a plan for eight years
- 1:30Speaker 3: and they've never had a plan.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Well, push comes to shove.
- 1:35Speaker 3: It's time because those health care subsidies that were given
- 1:40Speaker 3: during COVID have now will now disappear on December thirty one.
- 1:45Speaker 3: So what is Johnson going to do? Mike Johnson, Well,
- 1:50Speaker 3: the Republicans have put together a plan which does not
- 1:54Speaker 3: work because it doesn't do anything about those subsidies. Those
- 1:58Speaker 3: still will go away, and they've come up with just
- 2:02Speaker 3: well what they did is throw this against the wall, hoping.
- 2:05Speaker 1: That it sticks.
- 2:05Speaker 3: It won't, hoping that it passes, it won't, hoping that
- 2:10Speaker 3: somehow it's going to assuage the American people.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It won't.
- 2:14Speaker 3: And the entire plan of the Republicans has been let's
- 2:18Speaker 3: kill Obamacare. I think sixty somewhat introductions or bills have
- 2:23Speaker 3: been proposed to kill Obamacare, which at this point is
- 2:26Speaker 3: like Social Security.
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's become the third rail.
- 2:29Speaker 3: So you're not going to see this go Mike Johnson,
- 2:32Speaker 3: by the way, is will not put the Democrats plan
- 2:37Speaker 3: or the continuation on the floor of the House.
- 2:41Speaker 1: That's not going to work either. He has the power
- 2:43Speaker 1: to do that.
- 2:44Speaker 3: But there's a continuing resolution and that is going to pass. Well,
- 2:49Speaker 3: it's not continuing resolution, it's a procedural move in which
- 2:53Speaker 3: Johnson's ability to take that off the floor disappears.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It will be voted on, there is no question.
- 3:01Speaker 3: And even if the House does pass this Republican plan,
- 3:05Speaker 3: it's going to fail in the Senate. This is going
- 3:09Speaker 3: to affect the Republicans deeply. Now. They've come up with
- 3:13Speaker 3: a plan basically saying that people, if you're self employed
- 3:18Speaker 3: or you work in different industries, everybody can come together
- 3:23Speaker 3: and negotiate new insurance plans. Okay, can they Yes? Is
- 3:29Speaker 3: it going to stop the subsidies? Is it going to
- 3:32Speaker 3: help with the subsidies? No, it's not. Well, it will
- 3:37Speaker 3: stop the subsidies. They didn't even touch it. I'm going
- 3:40Speaker 3: to tell you Americans want this. You've got twenty million people,
- 3:44Speaker 3: of which a whole lot of them voted for Donald Trump.
- 3:48Speaker 3: My opinion, I'm just guessing, but I wouldn't be wrong.
- 3:52Speaker 3: And they're all going to lose their insurance either they
- 3:55Speaker 3: lose it outright or prices for the most part are
- 3:58Speaker 3: going to double triple and people can't afford it, and
- 4:03Speaker 3: they're going to be out of insurance. And the Republicans
- 4:07Speaker 3: are fighting tooth and nail and will not let those
- 4:11Speaker 3: subsidies continue on. Hey, you know what, this is election
- 4:15Speaker 3: time coming up with the midterms, and you've got some
- 4:18Speaker 3: big issues. Two things I keep on saying are going
- 4:21Speaker 3: to really kill the Republicans.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think one, prices.
- 4:25Speaker 3: As much as President Trump says prices are lower, prices
- 4:30Speaker 3: are better than they were than when he came into office,
- 4:33Speaker 3: he has the economy is better than it ever was.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Well, the stock market is true.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Unemployment though, is up, consumer confidence is down. It's it's
- 4:46Speaker 3: gonna be a tough It's gonna be a tough way
- 4:48Speaker 3: over the next year.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And we'll see what happens.
- 4:52Speaker 3: If the economy truly does get better, which it's not,
- 4:57Speaker 3: and you've got prices going down, which are not, and
- 5:02Speaker 3: insurance kicks in where subsidies continue on, which it won't,
- 5:07Speaker 3: then you're going to see Republicans. I'll tell you what
- 5:09Speaker 3: you're going to see is Republicans bailing out. They are
- 5:14Speaker 3: not going to ask the President to endorse them and
- 5:17Speaker 3: publicly either show up at events and or do a video,
- 5:22Speaker 3: and I'll tell you what.
- 5:23Speaker 1: The Democrats are going to do.
- 5:24Speaker 3: If I was a Democrat and I'm running against a
- 5:28Speaker 3: Republican and that Republican senator won't be the Senate for
- 5:32Speaker 3: the most part, maybe and Congress people, I would simply
- 5:36Speaker 3: show that Republican saying President Trump is the greatest president
- 5:40Speaker 3: that ever lived, look what he has done for America,
- 5:44Speaker 3: and then followed while by you lost your job, your
- 5:49Speaker 3: insurance has exploded, and prices have gone up, not down.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I think there are a few Republicans that are going
- 5:58Speaker 3: to be in trouble, especially in those swing districts.
- 6:00Speaker 1: We'll see, and I may be wrong. I have no idea.
- 6:04Speaker 3: By the way, just as a fact, when the President
- 6:06Speaker 3: said that he is the only president to ever hit
- 6:08Speaker 3: big pharma, that's not true. Joe Biden actually did remember
- 6:12Speaker 3: the thirty five dollars max on insulin.
- 6:15Speaker 1: That was Joe Biden.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Now is the president doing more than any other president
- 6:19Speaker 3: to attack big pharma?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 6:22Speaker 3: There has been no president who has come to this
- 6:25Speaker 3: level of attacking big pharma on behalf of the American consumer. Okay,
- 6:31Speaker 3: this one is interesting because have you ever heard of California?
- 6:35Speaker 1: The DMV.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Warning a car company and saying, you know what, if
- 6:41Speaker 3: you don't change your advertising, you're going to lose the
- 6:44Speaker 3: right to sell your car in this state for thirty days.
- 6:49Speaker 3: It'll be a thirty day suspension. Much like a football
- 6:53Speaker 3: player after he kills someone and sells ten pounds of cocaine,
- 7:00Speaker 3: it's a thirty day suspension. In any case, this has
- 7:03Speaker 3: to do with Tesla.
- 7:05Speaker 1: It's that simple.
- 7:07Speaker 3: What Tesla is doing, according to the DMV, and according
- 7:10Speaker 3: to everybody can who can read, it's mislead, misleading the
- 7:14Speaker 3: use of autopilot, the branding, because what does autopilot mean?
- 7:19Speaker 1: To most of us?
- 7:21Speaker 3: It means sort of, how do I describe autopilot? How
- 7:25Speaker 3: about this autopilot? Does that work for you? Because it
- 7:30Speaker 3: certainly works for me? Automatic driving much like Waimo, where
- 7:35Speaker 3: there's no one in the front seat, it is truly
- 7:38Speaker 3: auto pilot piloting. Nope, this doesn't work because what Tesla
- 7:44Speaker 3: is saying the terms autopilot full self driving capability. That's
- 7:50Speaker 3: another one. What does full self driving capability mean? If
- 7:54Speaker 3: you had to translate it into Layman's terms, it means
- 7:59Speaker 3: full self driving capability. It drives itself and it doesn't
- 8:06Speaker 3: the Tesla, well, it drives a lot of itself. It's
- 8:09Speaker 3: certainly computer you can program it. It will change lanes
- 8:16Speaker 3: for you, it has sensors, it will speed up. But
- 8:19Speaker 3: you've got to be behind the wheel, and you've got
- 8:22Speaker 3: to be able to grab that wheel slam on the
- 8:25Speaker 3: brakes at any time. That's not autopilot. That means you've
- 8:31Speaker 3: got to be there. An autopilot means self driving. Well, certainly,
- 8:36Speaker 3: full self driving means that it's drive itself.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And so the issue.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Becomes and by the way, it is an issue because
- 8:43Speaker 3: Tesla is saying, well, wait, wait a minute, just because
- 8:45Speaker 3: you have to have someone sit in the car and
- 8:50Speaker 3: make sure that the steering and the brakes, et cetera work,
- 8:53Speaker 3: doesn't mean it's not full self driving. But it seems
- 8:56Speaker 3: that it is not because there's the definition.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I mean, you can parse it.
- 9:03Speaker 3: And you can say that maybe that it is not
- 9:07Speaker 3: the same level as a Waymo vehicle is, which is true.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And so what Musk has said, too bad.
- 9:15Speaker 3: He has brushed off that decision as regulatory overkill.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And he says, nope, not going to change it.
- 9:24Speaker 3: And they say, not going to change the labeling and
- 9:27Speaker 3: the DMV says, you get to change the labeling and
- 9:30Speaker 3: if not, you're not selling cars for thirty days. Now,
- 9:32Speaker 3: on a personal note, in terms of my view and
- 9:35Speaker 3: my love of Tesla's, if they can't sell cars for
- 9:38Speaker 3: thirty days, that gives the consumer the ability to not
- 9:43Speaker 3: buy the car or not be bamboosled by Tesla, which
- 9:48Speaker 3: I think it is. Not buying the car. I'm doing
- 9:52Speaker 3: a favor for you. I have bought a Tesla. It
- 9:56Speaker 3: lasted two weeks in my life. I bought but brand new.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I sold it two weeks later. It wasn't the car
- 10:05Speaker 3: that I thought. Just to manufacture of the car. I
- 10:08Speaker 3: thought it was titty in a sense, it wasn't solid.
- 10:12Speaker 3: I just didn't like the car very much. Now, the
- 10:15Speaker 3: week after I bought the car, must declared a twenty
- 10:19Speaker 3: percent reduction in the value of the car. That's one
- 10:21Speaker 3: of those things that it's not planned. You find out
- 10:24Speaker 3: there are people that bought the car the day before
- 10:27Speaker 3: the twenty percent hit and they just got a car
- 10:31Speaker 3: that's worth twenty percent less than it was even with depreciation.
- 10:36Speaker 3: For me, I had to take my car and I
- 10:40Speaker 3: ended up taking a sixteen thousand dollars hit on the car.
- 10:43Speaker 3: So I look at renting the car at eight thousand
- 10:47Speaker 3: dollars a week before I got rid of it.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Not bad.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Now I've done better on rental of cars because rarely
- 10:56Speaker 3: have I paid eight thousand dollars a week for a
- 10:59Speaker 3: car rental. But that's what ended up with me. But
- 11:03Speaker 3: the bottom line is, I don't know where much is
- 11:06Speaker 3: gonna go with that because it is until until someone
- 11:11Speaker 3: can sit in the backseat of that car and not
- 11:14Speaker 3: have a driver up front self driving capability, It's well,
- 11:21Speaker 3: the argument is, just because someone is there, is it
- 11:23Speaker 3: self driving. I don't think do any of you have Teslas?
- 11:26Speaker 3: By the way, no, none of the people here have Teslass. Well,
- 11:31Speaker 3: I have an EV and it certainly is and it's
- 11:33Speaker 3: a Beamer and it certainly isn't self driving. The one
- 11:36Speaker 3: thing it does do, and many cars do this is park.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Parallel park that it does, and I gotta tell you
- 11:44Speaker 3: I've had some rough patches with parallel parking. I do
- 11:47Speaker 3: my own parallel parking. You know. When I took my
- 11:49Speaker 3: driver's test, you had to parallel park, Yeah, and no
- 11:56Speaker 3: one could pass it. That was what stopped everybody cold
- 12:00Speaker 3: on a parallel park Ono, what what did you say?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Never mind? Amy, thanks for listening.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Amy.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Do you know how to parallel park?
- 12:09Speaker 4: I do?
- 12:09Speaker 2: And I'm darn good at it.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I'm so good at it. Good for you?
- 12:13Speaker 3: Okay, okay, okay, ex Canary took away my point here.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Good enough, you're supposed to.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Say, no, okay, really interesting poll by a A P
- 12:31Speaker 3: nork and it Well, I'm gonna throw some figures at you.
- 12:36Speaker 3: But at the same time, there are aspects of this
- 12:39Speaker 3: that I think are kind of huh wow.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I didn't know that, all right.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Starting with, most adults are just fine with cash as gifts,
- 12:51Speaker 3: and uh I that's the kind of gift I give.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I'm not interested in shopping. What I do is I
- 12:58Speaker 3: just hand out check as gifts. Not very big, mind you,
- 13:02Speaker 3: but it's a it's a nice, nice check so. And
- 13:05Speaker 3: then at the bottom that's where I put my holiday greetings,
- 13:08Speaker 3: usually happy Holidays on the memo and that's it.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Now.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Occasionally, depending on who Cono for example, or Neil, I
- 13:17Speaker 3: will put this is for hookers, and those are very
- 13:23Speaker 3: special ones.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You see what the cards look like? All right?
- 13:27Speaker 3: I know you do, I know you do. Well, let
- 13:29Speaker 3: me quickly ask Cono, would you rather have cash than
- 13:34Speaker 3: any other gift.
- 13:36Speaker 1: No, it's currently no. Okay, well wait yeah, wait till
- 13:40Speaker 1: wait till next year. And cash, well, I do love cash,
- 13:45Speaker 1: but okay, I'll spend it on I'll like pay bills
- 13:48Speaker 1: off or something.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Okay, amy cash as gifts for the holiday or gifts
- 13:53Speaker 3: as gifts.
- 13:55Speaker 4: It depends on who it's from, Okay, true, All right, Well,
- 14:00Speaker 4: I mean they're both lovely.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, with cash being lovelier.
- 14:04Speaker 2: But a heartfelt gift is I love that too.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I don't even know what a heartfelt gift is you're
- 14:11Speaker 3: getting one from me? Oh god, or what it looks like. Actually, actually,
- 14:15Speaker 3: you give great gifts. You give great gift.
- 14:18Speaker 1: You really do. When are you coming in to get
- 14:20Speaker 1: your gifts? I think I'm coming in.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Not this week, but I think I'm coming in next week.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Maybe I'll do it this week. You know it's already Thursday,
- 14:31Speaker 3: you know, Monday. No, No, I'm going to come in
- 14:35Speaker 3: next week because then I can drive back New Year
- 14:38Speaker 3: Christmas Day because traffic is always horrific.
- 14:43Speaker 1: So probably be next week.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yes, oh yeah, And I have I have a Saturday
- 14:48Speaker 3: night dinner with my contractor, just to go over everything
- 14:54Speaker 3: that he's overcharged me for and how he's ruined my house.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And we do that at dinner at the Anaheim White House.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I might have.
- 15:01Speaker 2: It's really pleasant.
- 15:03Speaker 3: It's yeah, it's gonna be really good. I just love
- 15:05Speaker 3: the Anaheim White House.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Okay. Six and ten Americans.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Say cash is very acceptable and the other thing. Okay,
- 15:14Speaker 3: so that's not a surprise. Forty are not going to
- 15:18Speaker 3: stay up New Year's Eve?
- 15:21Speaker 1: Okay. Survey says, are you up New Year's Eve? Amy?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yes, But here's the deal we go to do.
- 15:29Speaker 4: We do our New Year's Eve celebration at nine o'clock
- 15:33Speaker 4: and then we come home and then we can be
- 15:36Speaker 4: in our jammies and watch the ball drop and go
- 15:39Speaker 4: to sleep at midnight.
- 15:40Speaker 1: So you stay up till midnight.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Most years.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, let me put it this way.
- 15:47Speaker 3: There's a stat about the older you get, the less
- 15:51Speaker 3: you stay up. Now, this is a poll that I'm
- 15:53Speaker 3: talking about ap North Pole that just came out. Six
- 15:57Speaker 3: and ten Americans say cash or gift cards very accessible acceptable.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I like to give cash because actually people can use cash. Also,
- 16:07Speaker 3: what I love about cash is there's nothing personal about it.
- 16:11Speaker 3: It's not a gift that I have to go out
- 16:13Speaker 3: and find and I don't have to write anything other
- 16:16Speaker 3: than side my name.
- 16:17Speaker 1: It works out well.
- 16:19Speaker 3: Forty four percent of Americans won't stay up to greet
- 16:23Speaker 3: the new year.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I never do. And that's broken down by age.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Half of people over forty five or older don't make
- 16:31Speaker 3: it to midnight.
- 16:32Speaker 1: About a third of adults under forty five.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Okay, it makes sense. The older you get, the less
- 16:37Speaker 3: you're going to give. Also, cash much say for gift
- 16:42Speaker 3: for younger adults. Now here's one that's kind of interesting.
- 16:48Speaker 3: About six and ten say that secondhand gifts, so regifted
- 16:54Speaker 3: gifts are okay? Sixty percent say used stuff is okay?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Now, come on, used. I mean I don't get it.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I really don't.
- 17:09Speaker 3: I was just talking to and and let me ask you,
- 17:12Speaker 3: when we talk about to talk about cash or gifts,
- 17:17Speaker 3: what would you rather have cash or a turkey leg?
- 17:24Speaker 3: She's not an answering fair enough. Here is one we
- 17:31Speaker 3: talk about this what you asked me?
- 17:35Speaker 1: Uh?
- 17:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I did, but I wanted to throw in that
- 17:36Speaker 3: funny turkey leg line.
- 17:38Speaker 1: That's all, okay.
- 17:39Speaker 3: No, I just came up with something stupid. I just
- 17:44Speaker 3: came up with something dumb, that's all. Now, people leave
- 17:51Speaker 3: their decorations up after the holiday season right into New Year's.
- 17:55Speaker 1: That's guilty. Yeah, but doesn't that it you have to have.
- 18:01Speaker 3: You can't do it with a real tree because that
- 18:04Speaker 3: tree starts to rot.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I left mine up until February one year.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Oh god, I'll bet you your place. That's dangerous.
- 18:10Speaker 4: It was in the fire department because I worked at
- 18:12Speaker 4: a radio station. The fire department called and said, Amy,
- 18:14Speaker 4: you need to get that out of your house.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Most people, by the way, put their keep their holiday
- 18:21Speaker 3: decorations after New Year's. Only two to ten put them
- 18:25Speaker 3: up before Thanksgiving. Now, sports washing, Okay, About a quarter
- 18:31Speaker 3: of US adults say they plan on watching sports on
- 18:33Speaker 3: Christmas Day.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Only five percent will go to a movie theater. Oh
- 18:37Speaker 1: here's a shocker.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Men are much likelier than women to watch sports on Christmas.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Kno football on Christmas? Is that you? Yeah?
- 18:47Speaker 3: That's too Yep, Well Christmas sports probably Yeah? Yeah, me too,
- 18:53Speaker 3: I'm a sports guy. How about the women? Amy, sports?
- 18:57Speaker 4: No, we watch a Christmas story on Christmas Day. It's
- 19:00Speaker 4: on a loop on TBS and T and TC. You
- 19:02Speaker 4: can kind of drop in and out of it all
- 19:03Speaker 4: day long.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 1: That nice.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Vomitus Okay, and yeah, it's on, but nobody's really focused
- 19:09Speaker 4: on right.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Fair enough.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Now here's one that actually stunned me that uh and
- 19:15Speaker 3: I shouldn't be surprised. Thirty three percent of adults say, well,
- 19:21Speaker 3: they will give a gift to their pet this year,
- 19:26Speaker 3: to their pet. Now, come on, really, this is the
- 19:32Speaker 3: same group of people that dress up their dogs for Halloween.
- 19:36Speaker 3: He drives you nuts. Now, I have to admit one year,
- 19:39Speaker 3: one year, I gave a Rubik's Cube to my dog
- 19:43Speaker 3: and I never would do that again because the dog
- 19:45Speaker 3: figured it out quicker than I could.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I don't give pets gifts. I think if you ask
