- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to A Peak Inside Gator Football.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Allie Peak here. Guys, it is Friday of game week.
- 0:06Speaker 2: We have almost made it. This video is brought to
- 0:09Speaker 2: you by PrizePix. Don't forget, new users can download the
- 0:12Speaker 2: PrizePix app, use our code, it's HMA, and play a
- 0:16Speaker 2: $ 5 lineup. And if you win, you'll get $ 150 in
- 0:18Speaker 2: lineups instantly.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It is so fun. Come play over there with us.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Okay, through two games, there is one thing Florida has
- 0:28Speaker 2: been able to count on offensively. The Gators can run
- 0:32Speaker 2: the damn ball. Jaden Baugh has rushed for 296 yards
- 0:37Speaker 2: through two games. He went for 160 against FAU. He
- 0:40Speaker 2: went for another 136 against Campbell. And if you go
- 0:43Speaker 2: back to the Florida State game at the end of
- 0:45Speaker 2: last season, Baugh has now rushed for more than 100
- 0:47Speaker 2: yards in three straight games. So yeah, Florida's got a
- 0:50Speaker 2: running back.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We knew that.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But what we're about to find out Saturday night is
- 0:54Speaker 2: whether Florida has a running game that can travel. Because
- 0:57Speaker 2: going into Jordan-Hare and running the football against Auburn is
- 1:01Speaker 2: an entirely different assignment from what Florida has faced through
- 1:04Speaker 2: the first two weeks. I think this might be one
- 1:08Speaker 2: of the biggest questions of the entire game. If Florida
- 1:11Speaker 2: can run the football Saturday night, I do really like
- 1:15Speaker 2: its chances. And if the Gators can't, that puts a
- 1:18Speaker 2: whole lot of pressure on Aaron Filo in his first
- 1:21Speaker 2: SEC road start. And I don't think that that's the
- 1:24Speaker 2: way Florida wants to play this game. So let's talk
- 1:26Speaker 2: about Jaden Baugh, this offensive line, what Auburn does defensively,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and why Florida's ability to run the football may tell
- 1:33Speaker 2: us more about this offense than anything we've seen so far.
- 1:36Speaker 2: All right, we're going to start with Jaden Baugh. What
- 1:39Speaker 2: he's doing right now is not exactly new. Florida's first 1,000-yard
- 1:44Speaker 2: running back since Calvin Taylor did it back in 2015.
- 1:46Speaker 2: He rushed for 1,170 yards last season. And then he
- 1:51Speaker 2: finished that season with a ridiculous 266-yard performance against Florida State.
- 1:57Speaker 2: he carried that right into the 2026 season. Against FAU,
- 2:02Speaker 2: 14 carries, 160 yards, three touchdowns. That's more than 11
- 2:06Speaker 2: yards a carry. And then against Campbell, 14 more carries,
- 2:09Speaker 2: 136 yards, two more touchdowns. And obviously that included that
- 2:14Speaker 2: 75-yard touchdown run. So through two games, Baugh has 296
- 2:17Speaker 2: yards and only 28 carries. It's better than 10.5 yards
- 2:19Speaker 2: per carry. Now, Is that sustainable against SEC defenses?
- 2:27Speaker 1: Probably not.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Nobody is expecting Jaden Baugh to average 10 yards a
- 2:30Speaker 2: carry for an entire season.
- 2:32Speaker 1: But what I do think is.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Sustainable is the physicality, the vision, the ability to create
- 2:37Speaker 2: yards after contact, and the explosive playability. Against FAU alone,
- 2:42Speaker 2: Baugh forced nine missed tackles and had 120 yards after contact.
- 2:47Speaker 2: That's not just an offensive line creating gigantic holes and
- 2:50Speaker 2: a running back just kind of, you know, jogging through them.
- 2:53Speaker 2: He is creating a lot of that production himself. But
- 2:58Speaker 2: Auburn is exactly the kind of defense that can test
- 3:00Speaker 2: whether this thing is real. And John Summerall didn't hide
- 3:04Speaker 2: how much respect he has for Auburn defensively. He called
- 3:08Speaker 2: DJ Durkin one of the best defensive coordinators in college football.
- 3:11Speaker 2: He talked about the defensive line and how well they
- 3:13Speaker 2: reset the line of scrimmage. He raved about Auburn's linebackers.
- 3:18Speaker 2: He talked about their safeties fitting the run. And His
- 3:21Speaker 2: basic message was, listen, these guys are hard to run against.
- 3:26Speaker 2: And that's not exactly a new development. Under Durkin last season,
- 3:29Speaker 2: Auburn finished 12th nationally in rushing defense. They allowed just 99.3
- 3:33Speaker 2: rushing yards per game and 2.86 yards per carry. Again, 2.86
- 3:39Speaker 2: yards per carry. That was Auburn's best yards per carry
- 3:41Speaker 2: number since 2003. So when Florida walks into Jordan-Hare, this
- 3:46Speaker 2: isn't just Bob versus Auburn. I'm going to take a
- 3:50Speaker 2: quick break from this video because guys, you have messaged
- 3:53Speaker 2: me for months asking me about audio options. And I
- 3:58Speaker 2: am really excited to tell you that we are now
- 4:00Speaker 2: available on Apple Podcast and Spotify. If there's a platform
- 4:04Speaker 2: you want us to be on that we're not currently on,
- 4:07Speaker 2: send me a message and let me know and I'll
- 4:08Speaker 2: see about getting on there as well.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Every video that we do.
- 4:12Speaker 2: From now on is going to be automatically available. So
- 4:15Speaker 2: if you guys want to like binge watch the entire,
- 4:18Speaker 2: binge listen the entire week on your way to the
- 4:21Speaker 2: game or something like that, that's an option for you now.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Or you want to sit in.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Traffic and you don't have the ability to pull it
- 4:26Speaker 2: up on your phone and listen to YouTube that way.
- 4:28Speaker 2: We've got you. Apple Podcasts, Spotify. Again, shoot me a
- 4:32Speaker 2: message if you want to hear it on a different platform.
- 4:34Speaker 2: We can make that happen as well. You guys asked,
- 4:37Speaker 2: tried to make it happen for you. So again, let
- 4:40Speaker 2: me know if you want to hear it anywhere else.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:43Speaker 2: So again, this is not just Jadenbaugh versus Auburn. This
- 4:46Speaker 2: is going to be a really important test for Florida's
- 4:48Speaker 2: offensive line. Because I do think we still have some
- 4:51Speaker 2: questions there. There were definitely things Summerall liked coming out
- 4:54Speaker 2: of Campbell. The snaps were better. He thought Bryce Lovett
- 4:57Speaker 2: played really well at left tackle. There were definitely signs
- 5:00Speaker 2: of progress. But then there were those penalties. Five penalties
- 5:03Speaker 2: on the offensive line. Three of them were holding. Two
- 5:06Speaker 2: unnecessary roughness penalties. And all five came in the second half.
- 5:10Speaker 2: That can't happen Saturday. Running the football effectively isn't just
- 5:14Speaker 2: whether Jaden Baugh gets four or five yards.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It's whether those four or five yards count.
- 5:19Speaker 2: You cannot finally create a nice run on first down
- 5:22Speaker 2: and then see a flag flying on the ground behind it.
- 5:25Speaker 2: You cannot get Auburn into a situation where the defensive
- 5:28Speaker 2: front is starting to get worn down and then suddenly
- 5:30Speaker 2: you commit a holding penalty and put yourself behind the chains.
- 5:33Speaker 2: That defeats the entire purpose of what Florida's trying to do,
- 5:36Speaker 2: especially on the road. And I keep coming back to
- 5:38Speaker 2: the phrase, stay ahead of the chains. Saturday night, that
- 5:42Speaker 2: might be everything. Aaron Filo is making his first start
- 5:45Speaker 2: in an environment like Jordan Herr.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It's going to be loud. Auburn knows that. Florida knows that.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And there is an enormous difference between asking Philo to
- 5:53Speaker 2: operate in second and five and asking him to operate
- 5:55Speaker 2: in second and 13. There's an enormous difference between third
- 5:58Speaker 2: and two and third and nine. When Florida stays ahead
- 6:01Speaker 2: of the chains, Buster Faulkner has his entire playbook.
- 6:04Speaker 1: You can run ball.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You can use play action. You can get Philo on
- 6:08Speaker 2: the move. You can throw to the tight ends. You
- 6:10Speaker 2: can get Vernell Brown involved. You can use tempo. You
- 6:13Speaker 2: can keep Auburn guessing. But if you can't run, you
- 6:17Speaker 2: become predictable. And predictable is exactly what you do not
- 6:21Speaker 2: want against this defense in that stadium. Third and long,
- 6:25Speaker 2: now Auburn can bring pressure. Now the crowd's involved. Now
- 6:27Speaker 2: communication becomes harder. Now Philo has to sit in the
- 6:30Speaker 2: pocket and make a throw with everybody in the building
- 6:33Speaker 2: knowing what's coming. That's why I don't necessarily think Ball
- 6:36Speaker 2: has to rush for 150 yards Saturday for Florida to win.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I don't think it's about chasing a specific number. I
- 6:41Speaker 2: think it's about being effective enough that Auburn has to
- 6:43Speaker 2: respect the run for the entire game, all four quarters.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Give me four yards. Give me five yards. Give me
- 6:49Speaker 1: the occasional explosive run. Avoid negative plays. Move the chains.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Make Auburn continue committing bodies to stop Baugh. And because
- 6:56Speaker 2: once that happens, now everything else starts to open up.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And that's where Florida can become really dangerous offensively. We've
- 7:03Speaker 2: already seen Aaron Filo be capable of pushing the ball
- 7:06Speaker 2: down the field. We've seen Dallas Wilson make plays. We
- 7:09Speaker 2: know what VB3 can do with that football. But all
- 7:12Speaker 2: those things become easier if Auburn's defense is worried about
- 7:15Speaker 2: number 13 standing next to Philo. And I think that's
- 7:18Speaker 2: where Buster Faulkner deserves some credit through two games.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Alex Golish actually talked about this this week.
- 7:23Speaker 2: He said that one of the things Faulkner does really
- 7:25Speaker 2: well is find creative ways to run the football and
- 7:28Speaker 2: run it at a high level. Not just line up
- 7:30Speaker 2: and slam bond the A-gap over and over again. Different formations,
- 7:33Speaker 2: different looks, different ways to stress a defense. Make Auburn
- 7:36Speaker 2: defend the entire field. And I think that is important
- 7:39Speaker 2: because Auburn knows exactly what Florida wants to do.
- 7:42Speaker 1: It's not a secret. If I'm Auburn, I'm walking into this.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Game saying we are not letting Jaden Baugh beat us.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Let Aaron Philo prove he can win his first SEC
- 7:50Speaker 2: road start. Load the box when you can. Be physical
- 7:52Speaker 2: up front. Win first down. Get Florida into obvious passing situations.
- 7:56Speaker 2: That would be my game plan. Which means Faulkner has
- 8:00Speaker 2: to find ways to punish Auburn for doing just that.
- 8:03Speaker 2: That could be in play action. Maybe it's getting Baugh
- 8:05Speaker 2: involved as a receiver. Maybe Philo keeps one in the
- 8:08Speaker 2: running game.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe Florida uses motion to change the numbers.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Maybe it's getting the tight ends more involved. But Florida
- 8:15Speaker 2: has to make Auburn pay if it becomes overly aggressive
- 8:18Speaker 2: trying to stop Baugh. And that's another part of Florida's
- 8:21Speaker 2: running game that I think maybe is getting a little
- 8:24Speaker 2: bit overlooked. The blocking on the perimeter has been really good.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Sarmal went out of his way Monday to talk about it.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Bailey Stockton, Amir Jackson, the tight ends, the receivers. He's
- 8:33Speaker 2: been really, really pleased with how those guys are playing
- 8:35Speaker 2: without the football. And that is going to count against Auburn.
- 8:39Speaker 2: When people hear running game, they immediately think offensive line.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And yeah, obviously the offensive line is the biggest piece.
- 8:45Speaker 2: But if you want explosive runs against a good SEC defense,
- 8:48Speaker 2: your receivers have to block and your tight ends have
- 8:50Speaker 2: to too. Because maybe the line gets ball the first
- 8:53Speaker 2: four yards, but that receiver blocking the safety, that's what
- 8:57Speaker 2: turns four into 15. Sermon said true character of a
- 9:00Speaker 2: skill player is how often He blocks well. How he
- 9:04Speaker 2: plays when he doesn't have the ball. Saturday night, we're
- 9:07Speaker 2: going to find out a lot about that too.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And I think we do need to talk a little
- 9:10Speaker 1: bit about patience. This may not look like FAU. It
- 9:14Speaker 1: won't look like FAU.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Ball might not break off a 21-yard run or a
- 9:20Speaker 2: 61-yard run early. He might not be averaging 10 yards
- 9:24Speaker 2: a carry in the first quarter. Maybe his first five
- 9:26Speaker 2: carries go for, I don't know, 18 yards. That doesn't
- 9:30Speaker 2: necessarily mean Florida should abandon the run. You have to
- 9:33Speaker 2: understand what you're playing. Good defenses are going to win
- 9:37Speaker 2: some snaps. Sometimes the point of running the football isn't
- 9:40Speaker 2: just what happens on that one individual carry, that play.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It's about making a defensive line play another snap and
- 9:47Speaker 2: another and another. It's making linebackers continue taking on blocks.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It's making safeties keep coming downhill. And then maybe in
- 9:55Speaker 2: the third quarter, that three yard run becomes six or
- 9:58Speaker 2: that six yard run becomes 15.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And eventually ball pops one. We know he can do that.
- 10:04Speaker 2: That 75 yarder against Campbell is the obvious example. He
- 10:06Speaker 2: had that 61 yarder against FAU. And obviously what we
- 10:10Speaker 2: saw against Florida state last year, you can give this
- 10:12Speaker 2: guy opportunities and eventually he's going to make you pay.
- 10:17Speaker 2: But there's another side of this that I think is
- 10:19Speaker 2: worth bringing up. Last season when Florida went on the
- 10:21Speaker 2: road against some really good defenses, Baugh didn't always have
- 10:25Speaker 2: the same success. At LSU, he only had 46 yards rushing.
- 10:28Speaker 2: At Miami, Texas A & M, not great games. Now,
- 10:33Speaker 2: completely different coaching staff, different offense, different offensive line configuration.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So I'm not saying that last year tells you what's
- 10:39Speaker 2: going to happen Saturday because it doesn't. But I do
- 10:41Speaker 2: think it illustrates the larger point. Running the football in
- 10:44Speaker 2: Gainesville and running the football against an SEC caliber front
- 10:47Speaker 2: on the road are two very different animals. And that
- 10:50Speaker 2: is why Saturday is such an important measuring stick. We
- 10:53Speaker 2: already know Jaden Ball is a good running back. We
- 10:56Speaker 2: already know he can put up huge numbers. What we
- 10:58Speaker 2: want to know is this. Can this offensive line create
- 11:01Speaker 2: movement against Auburn? Can Florida avoid negative plays? Can they
- 11:05Speaker 2: run the football when Auburn knows they want to run it?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Can they pick up a third and one in.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The fourth quarter?
- 11:10Speaker 2: Can Ba get four yards when there isn't a hole?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Can Florida protect a lead late if Auburn knows that
- 11:16Speaker 2: run is coming? That is when you find out whether
- 11:19Speaker 2: you really have a physical running game. And I think
- 11:22Speaker 2: this is bigger than just this one game against Auburn.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Look at the schedule Florida's about to play. This is
- 11:27Speaker 2: SEC football now. You're going to see good defensive fronts
- 11:30Speaker 2: almost every week. You're going to see NFL bodies. You're
- 11:32Speaker 2: going to see defensive coordinators who are going to have
- 11:34Speaker 2: answers for what you do well. And if running the
- 11:37Speaker 2: football is going to be a foundational part of John
- 11:40Speaker 2: Summerall and Buster Faulkner's offense at Florida, it has to
- 11:43Speaker 2: work against these teams. Maybe not at 10 yards per carry.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I think that's unrealistic. But it does have to be reliable.
- 11:49Speaker 2: A reliable running game travels. It takes pressure off your quarterback.
- 11:53Speaker 2: It travels when it's loud. It travels when the weather's bad.
- 11:56Speaker 2: It travels when the passing game isn't clicking. And most importantly,
- 12:00Speaker 2: it travels in the fourth quarter when everybody in the
- 12:02Speaker 2: stadium knows you need three yards.
- 12:04Speaker 1: And you get four.
- 12:06Speaker 2: That's what I'm looking for Saturday night. Not whether Jaden
- 12:08Speaker 2: ball wins the rushing title in week three, not whether
- 12:11Speaker 2: he gets another 150 yards. I want to know if
- 12:14Speaker 2: Florida can walk into Jordan hair lineup against a physical
- 12:17Speaker 2: Auburn defense and still be the team dictating the terms.
- 12:22Speaker 2: If Florida can run the football Saturday night, then suddenly
- 12:25Speaker 2: Aaron Philo's first road start becomes a whole lot easier.
- 12:29Speaker 2: The play action opens up. The crowd becomes less of
- 12:32Speaker 2: a factor. Auburn just can't attack the quarterback and Florida
- 12:36Speaker 2: can control the pace of the game. If Auburn shuts
- 12:40Speaker 2: it down and forces Philo to carry the offense, then
- 12:42Speaker 2: it becomes an entirely different football game. So yeah, Aaron
- 12:45Speaker 2: Philo is going to get plenty of attention this week
- 12:47Speaker 2: and rightfully so. But I think one of the biggest
- 12:50Speaker 2: questions Saturday night happens right next to him in the backfield.
- 12:53Speaker 1: We know Jaden Baugh is good.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Now we find out whether Florida's running game is good
- 12:57Speaker 2: enough to travel. And if the answer is yes, then
- 13:01Speaker 2: I think this Florida offense may be a whole lot
- 13:03Speaker 2: further along than we thought. Guys, thank you so much
- 13:06Speaker 2: for tuning in and a big thank you to our
