- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Monday.
- 0:15It is the beginning of a new month.
- 0:17It's the 1st of July. It's the beginning of a new
- 0:20financial year. Welcome to the new financial
- 0:22year. May it be a good one for you.
- 0:24And it is the day that we will continue reading through the
- 0:28book of John. Yes, we are into the second
- 0:31chapter. Oh, it's so nice to be back into
- 0:34the Gospels where we can walk along day by day with Jesus and
- 0:39we can be a fly on the wall as we hear the things that went on
- 0:44in his life. And in John, unlike the other
- 0:47Gospels, we get to hear this through the lens of this deep
- 0:51and profound reflection from someone who'd spent his life
- 0:55reflecting on the teaching and the purpose and the mission of
- 0:58Jesus. So thank you, John, for writing
- 1:01this gospel. We will enjoy every ounce of it
- 1:06and you will remember that we ended off last week where he had
- 1:09just gathered his first group of disciples with him and off he
- 1:13went and his ministry is about to begin and that is where we
- 1:17pick up today. So you ready?
- 1:20I am excited. Join me.
- 1:21Let us continue reading as we read together John Chapter 2.
- 1:36The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of
- 1:40Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there and Jesus
- 1:44and his disciples were also invited to the celebration.
- 1:48The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus's
- 1:52mother told him they have no more wine.
- 1:55Dear woman, that's not our problem, Jesus replied.
- 1:59My time has not yet come, but his mother told the servants.
- 2:04Do whatever he tells you. Standing nearby was 6 stone
- 2:09water jars used for Jewish ceremonial washing.
- 2:12Each could hold 20 to 30 gallons, Jesus told.
- 2:16The servants filled the jars with water when the jars had
- 2:21been filled, he said. Now dip some out and take it to
- 2:25the master of ceremonies. So the servants followed his
- 2:28instructions. When the master of ceremonies
- 2:31tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had
- 2:36come from, though of course the servants knew, he called the
- 2:40bridegroom over. Our host always serves the best
- 2:43wine first, he said. Then, when everyone has had a
- 2:46lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine.
- 2:49But you have kept the best until now.
- 2:53This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus
- 2:58revealed his glory and his disciples believed in him.
- 3:03After the wedding, he went to Copernicium for a few days with
- 3:06his mother, his brothers and his disciples.
- 3:10It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so
- 3:14Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the temple area, he saw
- 3:17merchants selling cattle, sheep and doves for sacrifices.
- 3:22He also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money.
- 3:26Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of
- 3:31the temple. He drove out the sheep and
- 3:33cattle, scattered the money changers coins over the floor
- 3:37and turned over their tables. Then, going over to the people
- 3:41who sold doves, he told them, get these things out of here.
- 3:45Stop turning my father's house into a marketplace.
- 3:50Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the
- 3:53Scriptures passioned for God's house will consume me.
- 3:58But the Jewish leaders demanded, what are you doing?
- 4:02If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign
- 4:06to prove it. All right, Jesus replied.
- 4:10Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.
- 4:15What? They exclaimed.
- 4:17It has taken 46 years to build this temple and you can rebuild
- 4:22it in three days. But when Jesus said this temple,
- 4:27he meant his own body. After he was raised from the
- 4:30dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they
- 4:34believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.
- 4:39Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the
- 4:42Passover celebration, many began to trust in him.
- 4:46But Jesus didn't trust them because He knew all about
- 4:50people. No one needed to tell Him about
- 4:52human nature, for He knew what was in each person's heart.
- 5:07Jesus, thank you that you don't just sit on your throne
- 5:10dispassionately watching your creation roll on day by day.
- 5:16But here we see your story coming down into ours to show us
- 5:22who you are. You are passionate about your
- 5:27Father. You are passionate about living
- 5:30a life of holy service to Him, and you are passionate about
- 5:35your people caring for them. And you know us in the deepest
- 5:40part of our hearts. Thank you that even though you
- 5:44know us, warts and all, you choose to love us.
- 5:48Love us with this whole profound, incredible love that
- 5:54transforms us. So we praise you and we thank
- 5:59you for that love and for your provision today and every day
- 6:05I'm in.
