- 0:15Kearns: Instead of Yaha, franchise is built on just p Diddy coming to
- 0:21Earth and hunting for the perfect.
- 0:25And then you fill in the word, it's the extra virgin olive oil.
- 0:29Is it enough for the Diddy?
- 0:31Jon: And he gives the franchise a whole new meaning
- 0:34Kearns: Yeah, does.
- 0:37Yeah, exactly.
- 0:39And that is largely what we're talking about today, ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:42We are getting into the Predator franchise, specifically the movie Prey.
- 0:47Ryan: First watch and it was awesome.
- 0:50Reminded me a lot of what the first predator brought to the table.
- 0:53You know, suspense, buildup, written, and uh, Dan Trak.
- 0:59Trachtenberg, I think I'm saying this name.
- 1:02Trachtenberg.
- 1:02Awesome.
- 1:03I said his name right.
- 1:04Um, he's, this is a passion
- 1:06Kearns: Killers of
- 1:07Jon: Killers of killer, killer of killers.
- 1:10Ryan: Killers on Killers.
- 1:11Killers of killers.
- 1:13Killers of killer of killers.
- 1:15Not killer on Killers, ladies and gentlemen, but Killer of killers.
- 1:19Kearns: I mean, for a franchise that could have been done dirty.
- 1:22Ryan: and it's,
- 1:22Kearns: Um, you'll see why in a second.
- 1:24We were just forced to sort of look at all of the movies.
- 1:28I gotta tell you, there's only really one dud in this bunch.
- 1:33I, I, I don't think there's more than one dud, a Dudley dud, A real sinker turd.
- 1:41Jon: I'm curious to see which one you think is the dud.
- 1:44Kearns: You know?
- 1:45Which one is the dud?
- 1:47Jon: I'm not.
- 1:48I don't, I don't, because I have, I have a couple that I
- 1:51thought were pretty duddy too.
- 1:53Kearns: my bottom three are, are surprising.
- 1:56I enjoyed seven and six, but anyway, we'll get into that soon.
- 2:01Ryan: I would
- 2:01Jon: We will get there.
- 2:02Kearns: we're
- 2:02Jon: We're gonna get, we're gonna get there.
- 2:04Kearns: I think we may be in agreement, but
- 2:07Ryan: That was a rough one.
- 2:08Jon: I don't think we are.
- 2:10Kearns: Oh, whoa.
- 2:11Ryan: Like
- 2:11Kearns: Wowzer.
- 2:12Jon: I think I have, I think I have a different bottom than you.
- 2:16Kearns: You're a power bottom.
- 2:19Jon: I power.
- 2:22Power.
- 2:23Kearns: all the power.
- 2:25Jon: Oh, I'm not gonna spoil my list.
- 2:27I did, I, I wrote 'em all out.
- 2:29I have you guys set up
- 2:31Kearns: so let's get
- 2:33Jon: and I have, I have some images for you.
- 2:38I figure I will.
- 2:39Kearns: image of Diddy with the lasers on Schwarzenegger as he's running away.
- 2:45Jon: If I had thought of it.
- 2:47Do we see it
- 2:49Kearns: Yeah.
- 2:54Five.
- 2:55Ryan: A
- 2:55Jon: that
- 2:56Ryan: Reem, and that will
- 2:57Jon: much higher than I thought?
- 2:59Kearns: I have it at seven.
- 3:02Yeah.
- 3:03Jon: All, all of, all of the predators?
- 3:07Ryan: Oh, hold on.
- 3:07Are we doing the everything?
- 3:08Are we doing All of them.
- 3:10Jon: No.
- 3:10No, all of them.
- 3:12Ryan: Oh, okay.
- 3:12I thought we were doing
- 3:13Kearns: And he doesn't, no.
- 3:14Gives these
- 3:14Jon: All right.
- 3:15So
- 3:15Ryan: okay, so, so then number seven, then?
- 3:18Yes.
- 3:19Jon: I, I'll give, I'll give him this one.
- 3:21Give back
- 3:22Ryan: Hold.
- 3:22I thought it was
- 3:23Jon: is your one.
- 3:24No, you don't mess up another number.
- 3:27That is, that is a,
- 3:28Ryan: I
- 3:29Jon: universal number seven.
- 3:31Kearns: nice.
- 3:32Ryan: no,
- 3:32Jon: All right.
- 3:35Kearns: Six.
- 3:38Jon: That's where I am too, is six.
- 3:42Ryan: Yeah, I am gonna do six too.
- 3:45Kearns: I mean, a VP was,
- 3:47Ryan: They propped it
- 3:48Kearns: it's in the same realm of what's happened to legendary Godzilla.
- 3:52Like I, I saw it, they turned into like weird actiony martial arts style
- 3:58nonsense instead of what they could be.
- 4:00And that is a departure, like going full action and leaving all horror
- 4:05the window outta the picture rather is like just not So it's, down on the
- 4:11Jon: Yeah.
- 4:11Kearns: the other ones didn't do that.
- 4:13And there's still
- 4:14Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 4:15Kearns: predominantly except for my eighth, which you'll
- 4:17find out about soon, I'm sure.
- 4:21Jon: So, yeah, I have no significant issue with the A VP movies, except that
- 4:27they're not scary and they're not, they don't feel fully true to either franchise.
- 4:33Ryan: I feel like though, in the beginning of a VP you
- 4:35Jon: Yeah, yeah,
- 4:36Ryan: of that alien horror in it when they're coming out.
- 4:39Kearns: Yeah.
- 4:39Ryan: the face huggers, that scene particular, um, even with the
- 4:43Kearns: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:45Ryan: But yeah, when the predator comes in,
- 4:47Kearns: And it's, it's execution over script on this one.
- 4:49I think they screwed up the way they did it more than they, than they
- 4:52could have the source material's fine.
- 4:54They're, they're novels of
- 4:55Jon: yeah.
- 4:56Kearns: basically that they're pulling from too.
- 4:59And there's gotta be human interaction and there's, there's linkups and
- 5:02in fighting between humans and the predators and things like that as well.
- 5:06They didn't really do any of that good stuff.
- 5:08I was like, come on.
- 5:10Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 5:11And I mean, I'm not the hugest fan of all these crossover things anyway.
- 5:16Alien stands up fine on its own.
- 5:18Predator stands up fine on its own.
- 5:20You don't really need to combine the universes for me.
- 5:23Kearns: Yeah.
- 5:25Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 5:26Ryan: I, I feel like it's because of the popularity of that comic
- 5:29they did Alien versus Predator.
- 5:31Kearns: That was so good though.
- 5:32Predator versus Batman was elite,
- 5:35Ryan: Superman or Predator
- 5:36Kearns: so I wanna see Predator versus uh, Kevin McAllister.
- 5:39Ryan: versus Batman.
- 5:40Yes.
- 5:41Yes.
- 5:44Jon: He eats him.
- 5:46Kearns: McAllister each the predator because he ran out of
- 5:49Jon: Nope.
- 5:49Kearns: money.
- 5:50Yeah,
- 5:51Ryan: Just, I
- 5:51Jon: Nope.
- 5:52I hope the predator eats Kevin McAllister.
- 5:56Kearns: feed them to Mars.
- 5:58Yeah,
- 6:00Jon: Hey guy.
- 6:00Like I, I know he doesn't normally eat people, but I, I
- 6:04hope he eats Kevin McAllister.
- 6:09Kearns: there is a cannibal predator.
- 6:11Actually,
- 6:12Ryan: cannibal
- 6:13Kearns: not very well liked
- 6:14Ryan: for so
- 6:15Kearns: amongst his skin, I, I can't think of his name right now.
- 6:20I know Ahab and a few of the other ones from the big stories.
- 6:23There's some cool ones.
- 6:24It's definitely a wormhole worth.
- 6:26Got a rabbit hole rather worth going down.
- 6:28My brain is shot tonight, guys.
- 6:29Sorry.
- 6:30All right, let's
- 6:32Jon: All right, next
- 6:33Kearns: Ooh, I liked it.
- 6:37Jon: killer room killers.
- 6:39Kearns: Did you not see it yet?
- 6:39Ryan, you can copy my number with this one since I'm always right.
- 6:43Ryan: heard a lot of good things about it.
- 6:45Um, if we're doing,
- 6:47Kearns: That's, that's actually, so
- 6:49Jon: Wow.
- 6:49Kearns: I have it.
- 6:50If.
- 6:51Like either or with three and four.
- 6:53That's kind of funny.
- 6:53Even the little arrows.
- 6:55I have it at four, so I'm gonna keep it there.
- 6:57Uh, predator Killer of Killers was an unbelievably welcome surprise.
- 7:02It was so good.
- 7:04If you haven't watched it.
- 7:05It's on the Hulu.
- 7:06Ryan: I was watching the trailer last
- 7:07Kearns: Uh, Blue-Eyed Samurai.
- 7:08Same animation style.
- 7:10Ryan: it's like I, it felt like I was watching like Blue
- 7:13Kearns: So with this one though, they, they market it as three different arcs.
- 7:18Ryan: me.
- 7:18Kearns: the arcs are not, they're not exclusive.
- 7:22They are all length.
- 7:23And it is a whole
- 7:24Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:25Kearns: It is a whole film experience that I wasn't expect, I was expecting
- 7:28like, love, death, robot style.
- 7:30And I did not get that.
- 7:31I got much better than
- 7:33Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 7:33Kearns: Uh, John, I stepped on you before.
- 7:35What were you gonna say?
- 7:36Jon: It's alright.
- 7:37I have it at five.
- 7:38Have it at five because like anime's just not
- 7:44Ryan: Five.
- 7:45Jon: me.
- 7:45I don't get into it.
- 7:46I thought the story was really good.
- 7:48I thought it looked visually good, but I la I don't get the emotion from
- 7:55anime that I do from live action.
- 7:57Kearns: Which is so funny because I get like so much.
- 8:01Ryan: watching Cowboy Bebop.
- 8:03Kearns: I get so much from anime.
- 8:04It's crazy.
- 8:05But that's so funny that we're on the opposite ends of the
- 8:07spectrum and Ryan's kind of like plop right in the middle of it.
- 8:10It's cool.
- 8:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:12Kearns: I dig that.
- 8:13Jon: Yep.
- 8:14Kearns: what's the next one?
- 8:15Jon: Alright.
- 8:17Ryan: Yes.
- 8:17Jon: It's pray.
- 8:18It's our movie of the week.
- 8:19Kearns: actually your, so that's going to be the picture behind Ryan's head
- 8:24for the second half of the video.
- 8:26But I digressed.
- 8:27Um, prey was three for me.
- 8:29That's the, that was the, uh, I was swapping back and forth
- 8:32between Killer of Killers and Prey.
- 8:34to give you an
- 8:35Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:35Kearns: how highly I, I hold Killer of Killers, Ryan.
- 8:39Ryan: I would, um, no, I, it's definitely on the list.
- 8:42Plus the predator lore.
- 8:43he's got it all right.
- 8:44And he's going in the great direction, so I'm looking forward to it.
- 8:47And with prey,
- 8:48Kearns: Wow.
- 8:48Ryan: I gotta
- 8:49Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 8:49Kearns: huh.
- 8:50Jon: I am with you.
- 8:51I
- 8:51Ryan: it.
- 8:51It
- 8:51Jon: I have did too.
- 8:52Also,
- 8:53Ryan: to the original Predator.
- 8:55Kearns: So I'm guessing we swapped Predator Two and Prey.
- 8:58Ryan: Yeah.
- 8:59It's, it's a good,
- 9:00Kearns: my best.
- 9:00Yeah.
- 9:01Ryan: movie.
- 9:02Jon: the, the rewatch moved it ahead of Predator too.
- 9:06For me.
- 9:07Kearns: is a fantastic movie.
- 9:08It's just a great movie.
- 9:11Well, I mean, we're about to.
- 9:13I mean, predator two is fantastic.
- 9:16Ryan: And Predator
- 9:17Kearns: Which is why I couldn't knock it off the, the, uh,
- 9:19where it's on the podium.
- 9:20But we're gonna talk about, I'm sure it's the next one up.
- 9:23So I'm just gonna hold my horses here.
- 9:26Jon: the next two I think are gonna be the two most divisive
- 9:30Kearns: to hear me really gripe.
- 9:31Yep.
- 9:32That's the one hot garbage.
- 9:36It's
- 9:36Jon: really,
- 9:38Kearns: Hard
- 9:39Jon: I legitimate, I legitimately like this movie.
- 9:43Kearns: you did
- 9:43Ryan: Eight?
- 9:44Yeah.
- 9:47Yeah.
- 9:48I don't think it's, it's okay.
- 9:52like, it's a nice callbacks and stuff, but
- 9:55Jon: Oh, we are gonna have some arguments when we get there too.
- 9:59Kearns: Predators was a very enjoyable watch.
- 10:03Jon: See, I, I like this one way more than predators.
- 10:07Kearns: are you doing this to us?
- 10:08Jon: Way more.
- 10:10I, this, it was fun.
- 10:12That, this was just so fun.
- 10:14I like this movie.
- 10:16Kearns: it was fun.
- 10:16Like, like, I don't know.
- 10:20Going sleigh riding into like raw sewage is fun.
- 10:26It's mindless
- 10:28Jon: I, I don't know, like, yeah, like, but sometimes you need mindless fun.
- 10:32Sometimes you just need something to be
- 10:35Ryan: Yeah.
- 10:36Jon: fun and, yeah, just fun.
- 10:39It's fine.
- 10:40I like it.
- 10:41Kearns: devil's advocate.
- 10:42I can never trust him.
- 10:43Right.
- 10:43Jon: I'm not, this is, this is legitimately my number.
- 10:47For
- 10:48Kearns: Damn you.
- 10:49Jon: legit.
- 10:50Ryan: no,
- 10:50Kearns: Yeah.
- 10:50I hate, I hate this movie.
- 10:52No, it's eight.
- 10:53I
- 10:53Jon: Which,
- 10:54Kearns: movie.
- 10:55Jon: which, which, knowing, knowing the movies that are
- 10:58left, there's a shocking eight.
- 11:00An eight that's gonna be real shocking to you guys.
- 11:02Kearns: Predator two, I'm, I might like, I might leave to podcast.
- 11:08Predators.
- 11:09I really love this one.
- 11:10I really love this one.
- 11:11Adrian Brody is just solid.
- 11:15any movie where you kill Topher, grace is also fantastic.
- 11:21Ryan: Yep.
- 11:22Kearns: I, I just, I enjoyed the hell out of it.
- 11:24I, I watched it three or four times now just because of it was coming on, you
- 11:29know, cable or whatever back in the day, it's just, it's a good ride every time.
- 11:35Ryan: It,
- 11:36Kearns: Yeah.
- 11:36Ryan: up.
- 11:36It, it gets me when they, like, they go in the past and they hear about like,
- 11:40what happens in the first film that's how it really connects with the whole
- 11:44Kearns: Mm-hmm.
- 11:47Ryan: yes, the predator does continue that lore,
- 11:50Kearns: There is horror because they're being actively hunted.
- 11:53There's twists and there's good spins and twists that you wouldn't
- 11:58necessarily have predicted.
- 11:59Look at him.
- 12:00Go.
- 12:00That's his eight.
- 12:01Yeah.
- 12:01Okay, I see it.
- 12:02That's his eight.
- 12:04Jon: Eight.
- 12:04Eight.
- 12:05I hated this movie.
- 12:07Kearns: terrible,
- 12:08Jon: this movie.
- 12:09I hate Adrian Brody.
- 12:11Kearns: in the
- 12:11Jon: I hated this movie,
- 12:16Kearns: that's Lawrence Fishburn is a guy in the ship that tries
- 12:18to screw them over and kill them.
- 12:20Ryan: know Lawrence Fish burns in
- 12:22Kearns: Which Lawrence Fishburn is
- 12:23Jon: Larry.
- 12:24Kearns: so that makes John racist.
- 12:25Adrian Brody I think is Jewish too.
- 12:28Jon: No.
- 12:29No, because my, my one in my, my wife.
- 12:32Hey, I, I'm half Jewish.
- 12:34I don't have to like Adrian Brody.
- 12:39Kearns: You know what he,
- 12:39Jon: I don't have to.
- 12:40Kearns: didn't know you hated Adrian Brody though.
- 12:42What a, what a.
- 12:43Ryan: have an
- 12:43Jon: I do not like that man at all.
- 12:47Nope.
- 12:47Not at all.
- 12:49I'm not sure.
- 12:50I like.
- 12:51Ryan: Really?
- 12:51Jon: sure I like him at any movie I've seen him in,
- 12:54Ryan: mean his Oscar.
- 12:56Jon: now.
- 12:56Kearns: he might be confusing him.
- 12:57With, with Ashton Kutcher?
- 13:00No.
- 13:01Jon: Nope.
- 13:02Nope.
- 13:02Kearns: around
- 13:02Jon: I don't like Ashton Kutcher.
- 13:04I, I don't like Ashton Kutcher a whole lot either.
- 13:07Kearns: car?
- 13:07And that's about it.
- 13:08Yeah.
- 13:08In that seventies,
- 13:09Jon: Yeah, dude.
- 13:10Dude, where's my car?
- 13:11I didn't even watch seventies show.
- 13:13Kearns: show and Predator,
- 13:15Ryan: Tater nuts.
- 13:16Jon: Oh, that would be an awe I would,
- 13:17Kearns: I'm gonna stick my foot in Your ass.
- 13:21Need to,
- 13:22Ryan: Ooh, I
- 13:26Kearns: I know.
- 13:26A Fez hat.
- 13:27Ryan: I
- 13:27Kearns: I, I never
- 13:28Jon: yeah.
- 13:29Kearns: learned the, the Urban Dictionary words or version of this.
- 13:36Ryan: So
- 13:40Kearns: Oh.
- 13:40Ryan: a, that 70 show fan,
- 13:42Jon: Wow.
- 13:43Ryan: it was
- 13:44Jon: That's weak.
- 13:45Ryan: for Foreign Exchange Student
- 13:49E. I know, but like they hid it for so long and then they re recently
- 13:54Jon: That's,
- 13:54Ryan: and they were like, that wasn't his real name.
- 13:56Jon: that's a letdown
- 13:57Ryan: like,
- 13:57Kearns: Yeah, a little bit.
- 13:58Jon: I want, I want that to, I wanted that to mean something else.
- 14:01Even though I didn't really ever watch this show.
- 14:03I wanted it to mean something else.
- 14:05Kearns: on par with a rusty trombone or something like that.
- 14:07But no
- 14:11Ryan: Like
- 14:11Kearns: ate for predators.
- 14:12John,
- 14:13Jon: Panamanian petting zoo.
- 14:15Ryan: No, they let down
- 14:17Jon: So is it, is this you guys'?
- 14:18Five.
- 14:19Kearns: uh, predators for me was five.
- 14:21Yeah, I
- 14:23Jon: All right.
- 14:25Ryan: five.
- 14:26Kearns: Number two, deuces baby.
- 14:29Nothing like dirty, dirty New York City.
- 14:31Getting attacked by Predator.
- 14:34Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 14:36Kearns: Gary Butte.
- 14:37That's what puts him in all, in all the three franchises.
- 14:40Ryan: Paxton with Gary Busey.
- 14:42Kearns: You dare to not put the movie that did that at number two.
- 14:46How dare you.
- 14:47only is he racist, he hates Bill Paxton.
- 14:52Jon: Who me, I have this at three.
- 14:54Kearns: nevermind.
- 14:55Jon: This is my three, and it, was my number two up until Tuesday or Wednesday
- 15:01when I re-watched Pray and then Pray, jumped it and Pre Predator two might
- 15:06jump it back next time I watch it.
- 15:08Kearns: I mean, that's not a bad, flippity floppy there me
- 15:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 15:12Kearns: So that really is
- 15:13Ryan: It
- 15:13Kearns: shows though, like how nice of a surprise Killer of Killers and Prey was
- 15:18for it to be in contention 4, 3, 2 with Predator Two Two really is a great movie.
- 15:26sequence in the, in the building when everybody's strung up and skinned.
- 15:31Do you remember that?
- 15:34Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 15:35Kearns: Yeah.
- 15:36Gritty.
- 15:36Do you remember the dude when they were fighting all the cops and
- 15:39he's getting ready to go out in a blaze of glory and he just shoves
- 15:42his face in the bowl of cocaine?
- 15:43He's like, he runs out.
- 15:47Yeah.
- 15:50Ryan: Yep.
- 15:51That's
- 15:52Kearns: He had the explosion.
- 15:54Ryan: it starts off with a bang and then ends with a bang, like literally.
- 15:58And it's Danny Glover, like can hold up a, a
- 16:03Kearns: That definition of an action star has changed a lot.
- 16:05Like you could not get away with Danny Glover as an action star today.
- 16:09Ryan: Like you saw a mess.
- 16:11Jon: I don't know.
- 16:13Ryan: Oh yeah.
- 16:13Jon: You get away with Bob Odenkirk as one.
- 16:16Kearns: I suppose I'm wrong.
- 16:17Yeah.
- 16:18Liam Neeson was the taken guy, and then he was in like 17
- 16:21Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 16:21Ryan: Yep.
- 16:22Kearns: I just didn't watch them because I didn't.
- 16:25Jon: Liam Neeson just makes
- 16:26Ryan: though,
- 16:27Jon: over and over and over again now with a different title.
- 16:30Ryan: it,
- 16:31Kearns: What's getting taken is his money to the IRS that
- 16:33he has to pay or he's going to
- 16:35Jon: Yeah.
- 16:36Kearns: He's like, not, not like Wesley Snipes.
- 16:38I'll make a thousand of these stinkers.
- 16:41Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 16:42Ryan: He
- 16:42Jon: Oh yeah.
- 16:43Ryan: that
- 16:43Jon: Yeah.
- 16:44Ryan: like lost his
- 16:45Jon: I mean,
- 16:45Ryan: and
- 16:45Jon: of them have been halfway decent.
- 16:47There was one set in like Ireland where he was like a retired assassin.
- 16:52Kearns: Yeah,
- 16:53Jon: was pretty good.
- 16:53I can't remember the name.
- 16:55Like, like some of have been Okay.
- 16:56And you know what?
- 16:57The first ice road was actually kind of fun too.
- 17:00Kearns: about Ice Road.
- 17:01Yeah.
- 17:01When he's like, here there's a jackknife and he is
- 17:03Jon: Yeah,
- 17:03Kearns: this stuff
- 17:04Jon: yeah.
- 17:05You know exactly like exactly.
- 17:07Every beat of that movie.
- 17:09'cause you've seen it a hundred times.
- 17:11But it's, it's fun.
- 17:13Kearns: That movie's fun.
- 17:14Yeah.
- 17:14Who's the well-known actor that gets dunked in the ice and like 35
- 17:19Jon: Oh shoot.
- 17:21Yeah, I did too.
- 17:23Kearns: he has no business being in that movie in general.
- 17:25It's pretty funny.
- 17:29Jon: I,
- 17:29Kearns: Yeah.
- 17:30Jon: yeah, I gotta look it up.
- 17:33Ryan: The first one.
- 17:34Right.
- 17:34That's what I'm doing right now.
- 17:37Trying to go as quick.
- 17:39It's like slow
- 17:40Kearns: That's you.
- 17:40Jon: Yep.
- 17:41Kearns: who it
- 17:41Jon: Larry's in it.
- 17:42Yeah.
- 17:42Kearns: Now
- 17:43Jon: Yep.
- 17:44Ryan: well, Lawrence Fish
- 17:45Jon: Good job.
- 17:46Kearns: it's from Hanging Out with you, John
- 17:50Jon: Oh, and you, and you know what?
- 17:51It co it comes full circle.
- 17:53'cause you know who the female lead in that is?
- 17:55Kearns: Keaton, rest in
- 17:57Jon: Nope.
- 17:57It is Amber, mid Thunder, who is the star of prey.
- 18:00Kearns: That's pretty cool, man.
- 18:02Jon: Yeah.
- 18:03Kearns: I'm glad we
- 18:04Jon: So we went full circle in that little detour
- 18:07Kearns: There we go.
- 18:09Jon: and,
- 18:10Kearns: that's a little,
- 18:11Jon: and that brings us to our universal number one.
- 18:14Kearns: Oh,
- 18:15Ryan: out
- 18:15Kearns: what a picture.
- 18:18Jon: Yeah.
- 18:18I love that picture.
- 18:19Kearns: beach man.
- 18:21Watching the Arnold documentary really gave me a lot of respect
- 18:24for his, his, um, arc through life.
- 18:28Just,
- 18:31I watched it a long time ago.
- 18:34yeah.
- 18:34Ryan: Did
- 18:34Kearns: Hold on.
- 18:35Ryan: you, you finally
- 18:36Kearns: No, no, no.
- 18:36Just, I just remember it all.
- 18:38He, um, well, what I found surprising was that he was a millionaire before he
- 18:42starred and Terminator well, starred.
- 18:45And then the other funny thing was learning that
- 18:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 18:48Kearns: to be the Terminator in Terminator because he didn't have enough lines and
- 18:52he wanted to be a big movie star and.
- 18:54And
- 18:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 18:56Kearns: Cameron was like, dude, dude.
- 18:57Ryan: Yep.
- 19:00Jon: This is the star roll man.
- 19:02Kearns: one man.
- 19:03Ryan: the best part of that was when he was asking him about
- 19:05changing the line to I'll be back.
- 19:07And he was like, I'm a robot.
- 19:08I, I wouldn't say it like this.
- 19:10He goes, are, are you the writer?
- 19:12And he's like,
- 19:13Jon: And, and that was probably the last time in his career that a
- 19:17writer was able to say that to him.
- 19:19Mm-hmm.
- 19:20Kearns: This movie is fantastic on so many levels.
- 19:23The nostalgia factor on the rewatch is like, it hurts to watch this
- 19:27Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 19:27Kearns: it so much.
- 19:29I.
- 19:30Jon: I. I taped this off of HBO back in the VHS days, and I, I had that die hard
- 19:38and midnight run on the same VHS tape.
- 19:40Kearns: worth billions on the black market after the apocalypse.
- 19:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 19:46I may still have that kicking around somewhere.
- 19:49It was beautiful.
- 19:50That was probably the best VHS tape I ever had.
- 19:53Kearns: man.
- 19:54Ryan: See, just, again, this generation's never gonna experience that.
- 19:59The recordings and just setting your VCR
- 20:02Kearns: doing that with, uh, mix tapes too was wild and fun.
- 20:06Ryan: prevent like
- 20:07Kearns: Do you
- 20:07Jon: man,
- 20:07Kearns: the
- 20:08Jon: you'd
- 20:09Kearns: before like
- 20:09Jon: uhhuh.
- 20:10Kearns: the things that did it for us?
- 20:11Oh.
- 20:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 20:13And you'd, you'd have to time out the songs just right, so you
- 20:18didn't cut one off at the end and,
- 20:20Kearns: we didn't have a
- 20:21Jon: but you didn't.
- 20:22Kearns: we, we had to pay
- 20:23Jon: But you, yeah, you did.
- 20:25You didn't want that at that last song to end too early though.
- 20:29So you're like,
- 20:30Kearns: Yep,
- 20:31Jon: like all these little mathematic equations to try to make sure you
- 20:35used up like 44 minutes and 58 seconds of that 45 minutes side.
- 20:42Kearns: Uh, good memories.
- 20:44Speaking of good memories, I
- 20:45Jon: Yeah,
- 20:45Kearns: Duke at, uh, chiller doing, when I was there signing books.
- 20:51He was there making lots more money than I was.
- 20:54Ryan: Oh
- 20:55Kearns: uh, he was so nice,
- 20:56Jon: absolutely.
- 20:57Kearns: Yeah.
- 20:57I mean, I wish he made more.
- 20:59There wasn't a very good turnout.
- 21:00He and, um, seem happy either, but Bill Duke was nice.
- 21:05He would talk to people in the halls and stuff like that.
- 21:08The rest of the big wigs did
- 21:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 21:10Kearns: things.
- 21:14Whoa.
- 21:15He's a DC, C guy.
- 21:17Stop doxing yourself.
- 21:19Ryan: of Duchess
- 21:19Kearns: God, I'm not gonna,
- 21:20Ryan: my
- 21:21Kearns: gonna protect you when they come for you.
- 21:22Ryan: I, I saw his pic.
- 21:25Oh,
- 21:26Jon: We know you're watching.
- 21:30Ryan: What
- 21:31Kearns: in New York.
- 21:31John and I live in Colorado.
- 21:33Ryan: Poughkeepsie.
- 21:33It's all right.
- 21:34Right in Poughkeepsie.
- 21:36Jon: Yes.
- 21:38Somewhere between Aspen and Colorado Springs.
- 21:42Ryan: Off the Rocky
- 21:42Kearns: I mean, no.
- 21:43Dammit.
- 21:43I Dox does Oh
- 21:47Jon: The Inland Empire
- 21:48Kearns: Where Hunter
- 21:48Jon: in California.
- 21:49Kearns: That's where I live.
- 21:50Jon: Yeah,
- 21:52Kearns: so anyway, yeah.
- 21:53Predator is indomitable.
- 21:56it's just the perfect action movie.
- 21:59Just is, I
- 22:00Jon: it is.
- 22:01Kearns: anything else to say.
- 22:02I feel like it's redundant to, to speak further on the matter.
- 22:05Ryan: is.
- 22:08Jon: Yeah.
- 22:08Ryan: And it's memorable.
- 22:10That's the biggest thing.
- 22:11It's memorable.
- 22:11The lines are memorable.
- 22:12The characters and like the back stories.
- 22:16Kearns: like that Van
- 22:16Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 22:17Ryan: and you
- 22:17Kearns: monster.
- 22:18Ryan: what the production went through,
- 22:20Jon: Yeah,
- 22:20Kearns: he was, but he was
- 22:22Jon: he was.
- 22:23Yeah.
- 22:25Ryan: I wish.
- 22:26Kearns: mean, I'm, I don't know if that would've worked
- 22:28great if he stayed in the new,
- 22:30Ryan: like he went
- 22:31Kearns: 'cause they switched the whole vibe.
- 22:34Jon: Yeah,
- 22:34Kearns: changed everything.
- 22:37Jon: yeah.
- 22:39Kearns: I mean, yeah, he's like a midget too.
- 22:41So him, with
- 22:42Ryan: See him do
- 22:43Kearns: trying to fight Schwarzenegger on stilts would've been a little weird.
- 22:48Jon: I don't think Arnold's that tall either, is he?
- 22:50Kearns: as Vince McMahon.
- 22:52I know that from watching.
- 22:53Ryan: him
- 22:53Kearns: He is like, he's up there.
- 22:56Um, Stallone is short.
- 22:58Ryan: Yeah.
- 22:586 1 6 2. Yes.
- 23:01he is.
- 23:02Jon: Eh, he six two.
- 23:03Ryan: Wesley Snipes towered over him, so they gave him
- 23:05Kearns: Yeah.
- 23:06Mr. Mr. Olympia, Mr. Universe can't be under six foot tall, I don't think.
- 23:10I think it's a law.
- 23:11anyway, getting to what this, amazing movie led to those other seven we
- 23:16talked about, one of which is pray.
- 23:18Now why are we talking
- 23:19Jon: Yep.
- 23:19Kearns: Tonight?
- 23:20This is a horror podcast.
- 23:21You fools.
- 23:21Why are we talking about pray?
- 23:23Jon: This Pray is a horror movie.
- 23:24It, I mean, you can argue it.
- 23:26You can argue that it's action.
- 23:28Maybe, maybe sci-fi, though it doesn't really hit sci-fi.
- 23:31To me, it's action horror.
- 23:33Kearns: it's action, action horror.
- 23:35I.
- 23:35Ryan: I feel like the sci-fi
- 23:37Jon: Yeah,
- 23:37Ryan: comes
- 23:37Jon: it does.
- 23:38It doesn't hit any of like the Alien franchise, if you
- 23:41want to call that sci-fi.
- 23:42I, I can get behind that.
- 23:45Predator is not,
- 23:46Ryan: it's an interesting blend.
- 23:48Like, 'cause you got
- 23:48Jon: Yeah.
- 23:49Yeah.
- 23:50Ryan: but it's like a slasher film
- 23:51Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 23:52Ryan: if you really wanna like, unpack it.
- 23:55'cause he's stalking, he's hunting.
- 23:57But it's a different aspect.
- 23:59It's for the hunt.
- 24:01It's what
- 24:01Jon: I don't know.
- 24:02You sound pretty specious.
- 24:03Kearns: not a good indicator when you say I'm not specious.
- 24:07Ryan: what they do.
- 24:08Kearns: Uh, defensive
- 24:10Jon: I have a lot of, I have a lot of friends who are other species.
- 24:14Ryan: I'm just, I was a defense.
- 24:17Kearns: cats.
- 24:17Mostly I think for John.
- 24:19Jon: Mm.
- 24:21Ryan: I senos, I
- 24:22Kearns: He's got a lot.
- 24:23Ryan: mean,
- 24:24Jon: Yeah.
- 24:25Ryan: you
- 24:26Kearns: I too, I too get down with cats.
- 24:27Do you have any cats, Ryan?
- 24:30That's suspicious.
- 24:31Suspicious?
- 24:32Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 24:34Kearns: nothing.
- 24:34It's just
- 24:34Jon: Very suspicious.
- 24:35Ryan: Now I got two dogs.
- 24:36Jon: just suspicious.
- 24:39Ryan: What's wrong with dogs?
- 24:40Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 24:40Ryan: Listen, there was a poor cat a mouse outside and
- 24:45Kearns: that works.
- 24:46Ryan: was hungry.
- 24:47Jon: But it was hungry.
- 24:48Why'd you get rid of the mouse?
- 24:49It wasn't gonna come back for that.
- 24:51Ryan: but,
- 24:53Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 24:53Kearns: only see strays.
- 24:54It's weird when people say they like cats are eating it
- 24:57Ryan: just the
- 24:57Kearns: like, like biting into it and stuff.
- 24:59I've only seen cats eat
- 25:00Ryan: just
- 25:00Kearns: mice hole.
- 25:03Like they take 'em down like gulp.
- 25:06Jon: You gotta,
- 25:06Kearns: They
- 25:07Jon: yeah.
- 25:07Kearns: them.
- 25:07Jon: I found, ha, I found half a mouse in our kitchen one time.
- 25:12Ryan: was left over
- 25:13Kearns: At least
- 25:13Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 25:16I, yep.
- 25:17No, I, no, because I think, I think my cats are reaching into
- 25:20the wall and pulling them out.
- 25:22I don't think the mice are coming into the house.
- 25:24I think the cats are pulling them out.
- 25:29Kearns: It is terrifying.
- 25:30Kick too close to that hole.
- 25:32Ryan: Just, the people under the
- 25:34Kearns: Ooh,
- 25:35Ryan: just Cat Boss.
- 25:38Kearns: the pre
- 25:40Jon: Listen, we got, we have mice in Colorado.
- 25:43Kearns: in Colorado, it's a big problem.
- 25:45So prey.
- 25:46Where do they film this movie?
- 25:47'cause it is like, it feels like Montana.
- 25:50I wonder where they filmed prey.
- 25:52And these are indigenous peoples that are the focal point in
- 25:56the beginning of the movie.
- 25:58Jon: Yep.
- 25:59Considering there's French settlers, I would imagine it's a
- 26:02little further east than Montana.
- 26:04Kearns: This is a man who knows his geography and his history,
- 26:06so I'm gonna go with him.
- 26:08But that's true.
- 26:09They were, they tended to be around the Ohio Valley, so maybe that's where we're
- 26:14Jon: Yeah.
- 26:14Kearns: Somewhere there in like the
- 26:15Jon: And the,
- 26:16Kearns: Maybe a little north.
- 26:18Jon: eh, upper Great Lakes maybe.
- 26:20Actually
- 26:21Kearns: let's find out.
- 26:23Jon: we can probably figure that out.
- 26:25Comanche?
- 26:26Kearns: Oh, there Comanche.
- 26:27No wonder they were so badass.
- 26:28Jon: Yes.
- 26:29Kearns: The Comanche.
- 26:30All right, so the Comanche weren't like the Apache per se, and how
- 26:33devastatingly scary they were, but Comanche used to torture people.
- 26:38Jon: Oh, see, we, we should know this being that we're in Colorado, um,
- 26:43Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Northern Chihuahua, Mexico.
- 26:49Kearns: you mentioned Comanche, I knew we were in trouble because the Comanche
- 26:53were, were well-known Savage people.
- 26:56They, one of the things that the, the other indigenous tribes would do for
- 27:02Native Americans was they abutted the settlers on their own land right up to
- 27:06Comanche territory in order to, oh, 'cause once you got near the Comanche, they
- 27:11would steal people and enslave them and murder them in various ways, and they were
- 27:16Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 27:17Kearns: And so they knew that that would get the white settlers to go and
- 27:20kill the Comanche for them because they didn't want to deal with the Comanche.
- 27:25The Comanche were sickos.
- 27:28it's
- 27:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 27:29Kearns: chose to make them look so noble and wonderful in this movie.
- 27:32but they, I guess they chose Comanche because they're super badass.
- 27:37Does that make sense?
- 27:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 27:39Mm-hmm.
- 27:40Ryan: the simpleness of showing them being like 'cause of their history and stuff.
- 27:44You see them in this good light.
- 27:46The
- 27:47Kearns: I dunno, man.
- 27:47You give, you
- 27:48Ryan: is,
- 27:48Kearns: give
- 27:49Jon: Mm.
- 27:49Kearns: people stones and, and both arrows and you put 'em up against,
- 27:53I mean, they did Nerf the weaponry a little bit for the movie for this.
- 27:58They gave him a little less than what we saw in Predator
- 28:01Two and Predator Predator two.
- 28:04By the way, do you remember all the new stuff that popped out in Predator
- 28:07two, the net and stuff like that?
- 28:09That was
- 28:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 28:10Kearns: new in that movie.
- 28:11Jon: you have to make that make sense because it's 250 years later that
- 28:15Predator and then Predator two happen.
- 28:18So you would imagine that, that that species evolves some too
- 28:23Kearns: oh.
- 28:24Jon: improve technology over time.
- 28:26Kearns: they were already pretty evolved though, right?
- 28:28I guess I, that does make sense.
- 28:30Like
- 28:30Jon: I mean, they certainly seem to be.
- 28:32Ryan: I was.
- 28:32Kearns: of like, why they, this one looks like a stone age guy who
- 28:36arrived in a spaceship, but still
- 28:38Ryan: Well, they still have somewhat of like the same technology though.
- 28:41Like he, I, when he has the, the helmet on the skull and I
- 28:44was like, this is pretty cool.
- 28:46And then he is got the technology in the helmet still.
- 28:48I was like, how, how are we doing this right now?
- 28:51I get
- 28:51Kearns: that was fan service.
- 28:52Dude.
- 28:53That's just fan service and it works.
- 28:55We liked it.
- 28:56Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 28:57Mm-hmm.
- 28:58Ryan: of this?
- 29:01I, I get it.
- 29:03Oh, I
- 29:03Kearns: Yeah.
- 29:04Yeah, exactly.
- 29:04Like the beginning of the net.
- 29:06then she had her own, so the, lead actress in Prey, I don't
- 29:09remember the character's name.
- 29:11I don't think I ever knew the character name.
- 29:12Naru.
- 29:13So Naru has her own little that is very instrumental to
- 29:18her survival in this movie.
- 29:20And it's like, uh, well you wanna describe it, Ryan, since you just saw it?
- 29:24The shrooms?
- 29:26No, no,
- 29:28Ryan: Oh, oh, I thought you were talking
- 29:30Kearns: That's a knock off of the old Berserkers too,
- 29:32Ryan: eats the shrooms.
- 29:32I
- 29:33Kearns: No.
- 29:33Ryan: her
- 29:34Jon: She has the power to trip.
- 29:35Kearns: Trip bowels.
- 29:37But no, she's got a, she's got a weapon she made, she's got a thingy.
- 29:41Ryan: Yes.
- 29:43Kearns: Yeah.
- 29:43Yeah.
- 29:43Ryan: She's
- 29:44Kearns: The retract, the give back.
- 29:46My ax.
- 29:47Ax
- 29:48Ryan: uh,
- 29:48Kearns: term Mule
- 29:49Ryan: that
- 29:50Kearns: ax.
- 29:50Ryan: and forth.
- 29:51That was pretty cool.
- 29:52also
- 29:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 29:53Ryan: to track, it's
- 29:54Kearns: she's like ready to
- 29:55Jon: Yeah.
- 29:56So you guys want a couple reviews.
- 29:58Kearns: sure.
- 29:58Ryan: the weaponry,
- 29:59Kearns: didn't know.
- 30:00Jon: All right.
- 30:00Here, here's a five star.
- 30:03You have a five.
- 30:04If you loved the original Predator and Predator two, forget the later releases.
- 30:11Then you will love this franchise, resurrection Prey on Hulu, only
- 30:16all the good parts of of how a predator movie should feel and pace.
- 30:21Nothing beefy but simple, straight, realistic to hell, key storyline,
- 30:27nature and wildlife, and superb horror buildup to the finale scenes.
- 30:34The Comanche Tribe timeline and their detailed cultural
- 30:37representation were damn good.
- 30:40Brilliantly played by the female protagonist.
- 30:42Amber, mid Thunder Naru.
- 30:45I loved, sorry, the dog.
- 30:47Brilliant.
- 30:48Acting by quote, Dakota Beavers.
- 30:52End quote, keep it up, sire.
- 30:56Thumbs up to Dan Trachtenberg for trying something new to rekindle the franchise.
- 31:00Lastly, shout out to Dan de Leggiero for playing the primitive, horrifying predator
- 31:06perfectly and putting us in fear again.
- 31:10Yep.
- 31:10He was a good predator.
- 31:12Ryan: He
- 31:13Jon: He's a good predator.
- 31:14We have a one star to go with it.
- 31:16And I know I did notice there is a, an underlying theme in some
- 31:22of these one stars and we'll see if you guys can pick it up.
- 31:27Go rewatch the first two Predator movies, then watch prey.
- 31:32You'll see why this movie deserves one star, a five foot, 400 pound wa who has
- 31:39never hunted anything before Slaughters an entire fur trappers, encampment full
- 31:44of giant, burly men with muskets, and also kills a predator without a single scratch.
- 31:51Call me misogynistic.
- 31:52Uh, okay.
- 31:54Toxic or whatever other term for being non woke is popular this week.
- 32:00But action stars need to look the part or have enough character development
- 32:05Kearns: the
- 32:06Jon: as a legit badass to be believable in their role.
- 32:10The lead in this movie was not believable as a badass in the least bit.
- 32:15Also, what's the point of touting a whole Native American cast, which has been
- 32:20the main focal point for most of the promotion for the movie, if they're gonna
- 32:25speak almost entirely in English and use some modern speech patterns in slang.
- 32:31One more thing.
- 32:32This is a franchise movie.
- 32:33How about stepping up the CG game just a tad?
- 32:38Kearns: The bear in the
- 32:40Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 32:40Kearns: get off it, buddy.
- 32:42So,
- 32:44Jon: And,
- 32:44Kearns: yeah.
- 32:47Jon: and you know what?
- 32:49Ryan: him hiding like
- 32:50Jon: made it in English, so dumb asses, like you didn't have to read
- 32:55Kearns: So it wasn't like a what was the name of that movie Mel Gibson made?
- 32:58I always forget the damn name,
- 33:00Ryan: Yep.
- 33:00Jon: Apocalypto.
- 33:02Kearns: So we didn't have to read the whole movie hated
- 33:05it 'cause they had to read.
- 33:06But anyway, um,
- 33:08Ryan: sorry.
- 33:08Kearns: made it more if it was Jackie Chan or if it was Charles Bronson
- 33:14or if it was Amal Schwarzenegger?
- 33:16Jon: And
- 33:16Kearns: all getting killed in real
- 33:17Jon: we,
- 33:17Kearns: with three of those colonial fur trapper guys.
- 33:21Jon: we, and we've already talked about it, this franchise
- 33:25had Danny Glover as the hero.
- 33:27Kearns: Danny Glover.
- 33:28Might I add
- 33:29Jon: Yeah.
- 33:30Kearns: Glover?
- 33:31Jon: You've,
- 33:33Ryan: Yes.
- 33:33Jon: but
- 33:35that, that's one of the common themes in the, in these one star reviews, is that
- 33:43it's a woman and that it's a small woman.
- 33:45Kearns: I know the charm
- 33:47Jon: Because,
- 33:48Ryan: What
- 33:48Jon: because most of the people who feel this way sort of have that
- 33:51grandfathered in Alien has always been badass Sigourney Weaver before they
- 33:57knew to, be misogynistic about it.
- 33:59Now, anytime you introduce something, if you introduced a different female hero
- 34:04into the Alien franchise, they'd flip too.
- 34:07Kearns: did that in the new one, didn't they?
- 34:08Or tried to,
- 34:11Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:14Mm-hmm.
- 34:14Ryan: Yep.
- 34:15Jon: They tried in Prometheus, they tried in Covenant
- 34:17Kearns: none of it worked.
- 34:20Jon: yep.
- 34:21Yep.
- 34:21Kearns: is the one I was talking about.
- 34:24Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:24Kearns: a bunch of female characters in the, um, I wouldn't say that, I don't
- 34:27even know who I would call the lead
- 34:29Ryan: I
- 34:30Kearns: in the show, to be honest with you.
- 34:31It's like episodic in a way.
- 34:33But anyway, um, so yeah, that's a, that's a dumb gripe.
- 34:38Uh, she does a great job.
- 34:39It's not a convincing.
- 34:41Idea because it's, nobody's killing a predator.
- 34:45The end that's just not happening.
- 34:47They're nine feet tall and they're ultra super elite murderers, like with
- 34:53Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 34:54Kearns: that's really good, like Seal Team Six Tech, and they're coming for you, bro.
- 34:59They're coming for you.
- 35:01It's like, okay, are you gonna do about it?
- 35:03All right.
- 35:04Well, if I was six four, right?
- 35:05And, uh, I knew, I knew Kav Maga, I was a Brazilian jiujitsu.
- 35:09You're dead.
- 35:10You never even saw it coming.
- 35:11It has a freaking cloak.
- 35:14done, you're done.
- 35:18Jon: Yeah.
- 35:20Kearns: I would love to see Steven Segal fight it just to watch him die.
- 35:23Ryan: Steven Egal versus the
- 35:26Kearns: you know what?
- 35:27I'm gonna put VEO three AI to good use later.
- 35:32I have the technology at my fingertips now to watch that happen.
- 35:39Oh man.
- 35:41I just think this is a good movie.
- 35:42Um, and no, not even just, just
- 35:45Jon: it really is.
- 35:45Kearns: enjoyable.
- 35:46It's well made.
- 35:47Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:48Kearns: the new age, sort of hammer work that they use in a lot of movies,
- 35:53and some of that's employed here
- 35:55Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 35:56Kearns: cuts.
- 35:56They don't, trust us enough, I think, to leave the camera
- 36:00in one place for long enough.
- 36:01I don't know what the reasoning is, but it bothers me a bit, but fine.
- 36:06Ryan: it was beautiful.
- 36:08whole, uh, setting was beautiful, I feel.
- 36:10Um, I, was a mix between like natural landscape and there was a couple scenes
- 36:15you can see and maybe a little use of green screen of course, which is normal.
- 36:19Um, but to go back to the review, 'cause I was just thinking about it.
- 36:22It's like comparing it to the first predator, at least.
- 36:27This movie does the same as the first predator with the buildup and stuff.
- 36:31You see the predator go through the different creatures till he finds
- 36:36Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 36:37Ryan: And it's just that, again, a slow buildup.
- 36:39And I feel like there is good character building.
- 36:42Naru in a tough situation as a woman.
- 36:45She doesn't want to be a gatherer, she wants to be a hunter, and
- 36:49she's trying to prove her point and
- 36:51Jon: Yeah.
- 36:51I, but I, that's part of the arc of the character is that
- 36:54Ryan: across
- 36:55Jon: she has something she really wants to do.
- 36:57She's not success, been successful doing it.
- 37:00Her society doesn't want her to do it.
- 37:03She figures out a way to overcome all of that and be a successful
- 37:09hunter, you know, in a myth manner.
- 37:12Kearns: You've may be seeing me getting a little bit busy here, but
- 37:14Ryan: true.
- 37:15Kearns: apparently a certain AI generator's a little worried about
- 37:20somebody being a little sue happy.
- 37:24I can't create scenes of a
- 37:25Jon: Oh, Steve
- 37:26Kearns: who looks like they're being killed or injured.
- 37:30Hold on.
- 37:30We can use some clever word play here.
- 37:32Jon: Maimed,
- 37:34Kearns: Fighting and losing.
- 37:37Ryan: A keto expert.
- 37:40Kearns: Very badly to, let's try that one.
- 37:47Oh, come on.
- 37:49Being harm.
- 37:49I can't,
- 37:50Ryan: See,
- 37:50Kearns: I can't generate an image that depicts someone resembling
- 37:53Steven Segal being harmed or defeated.
- 37:56Now we know what our overlords want.
- 38:00Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:01Ryan: that is probably in his contract for life.
- 38:04No one can show me again, defeated
- 38:06Kearns: true.
- 38:06Ryan: for Danny
- 38:07Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:08Ryan: Danny Treo did defeat him in machete.
- 38:11Jon: Damn it, Ryan.
- 38:13Ryan: Cut his head off.
- 38:14Spoilers.
- 38:15Jon: to say spoiler before you spoil it.
- 38:18Ryan: I, I backwards
- 38:19Kearns: He cuts his head on.
- 38:21Ryan: make, uh, sorry.
- 38:23Spoilers.
- 38:23He
- 38:24Jon: better.
- 38:24You already said it.
- 38:26Kearns: Do you guys have any legitimate gripes with prey at all, by the way?
- 38:31Jon: Not really.
- 38:32Kearns: want to
- 38:32Jon: Not really.
- 38:33Kearns: think anything either.
- 38:34I like that.
- 38:34Um, I like that they go up like the food chain a bit too.
- 38:38There's mountain lion, there's a
- 38:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 38:40Mm-hmm.
- 38:41Kearns: good stuff.
- 38:42That's another thing.
- 38:43Jon: The bear,
- 38:44Ryan: Yes.
- 38:45Jon: bear scene worked really well
- 38:47Kearns: Um,
- 38:47Ryan: scene.
- 38:48Jon: and, but,
- 38:49Ryan: That
- 38:49Kearns: is like, Ooh.
- 38:51Jon: and the bear scene builds like it builds to the end because
- 38:57that's naru seeing, oh, this is how I can see this thing is cover.
- 39:01It gets covered in something is as it's holding the bear up and
- 39:05the blood's coming down on it.
- 39:06She sees the predator.
- 39:09Ryan: Which, going back to, uh, me mentioning the mushrooms
- 39:12earlier, eating the mushrooms
- 39:15Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:15Ryan: like the predator.
- 39:16The predator can't see you,
- 39:18Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 39:18Ryan: that cold body look to the whole idea of
- 39:22Kearns: Hold on,
- 39:22Ryan: on
- 39:23Kearns: hold on.
- 39:24Ryan: So,
- 39:24Kearns: It didn't want me to do it.
- 39:26Sure did it
- 39:27Ryan: she's
- 39:27Kearns: It sure did it a lot.
- 39:30Ryan: what?
- 39:31Kearns: Oh my God.
- 39:34I'm gonna get this framed.
- 39:36Uh, we will sign these and send them out to people if you want.
- 39:40Um, here, where do I, where's my share?
- 39:42Holy crow.
- 39:44Are you guys ready?
- 39:46I,
- 39:46Jon: Yeah,
- 39:47Kearns: I don't know if you are.
- 39:52Ryan: Yes.
- 39:56No, I wanna, I wanna see
- 39:57Jon: it's Fat Steve, too.
- 39:59Kearns: Well, that's, I put an emphasis and I said, give him a
- 40:01stupid goatee and make sure it's, he's got a ponytail on his fat head
- 40:08and it really doubled down.
- 40:10Look at how punchy he is and look at it though.
- 40:12He got, he got his a little bit with that little dagger.
- 40:18Ryan: Oh,
- 40:20Kearns: This, this might be the thumbnail.
- 40:22Ryan: if, if
- 40:22Kearns: This might be the thumbnail.
- 40:24Ryan: we should, we should sign it
- 40:26Kearns: Yeah.
- 40:27Ryan: send 'em a
- 40:28Kearns: I mean, I've never been so happy to have a personalized GPT in my life.
- 40:35I put a lot of work into it and it shows,
- 40:40oh my God, that was so good.
- 40:41Jon: That is awesome.
- 40:43Kearns: Christmas cards, it's gonna be used for everything.
- 40:47Ryan: That looks so much like him too.
- 40:53Kearns: I just love how it caution me.
- 40:54It's like, I can't do this, but if you, if you'd like, I could do this,
- 40:58I was like, yeah, but make sure you, you put a ponytail on his fat head
- 41:02and stupid goatee on his fat face.
- 41:04He's fallen from grace so hard.
- 41:06That hop show, I think.
- 41:08Did it?
- 41:09Ryan: That's
- 41:10Jon: Yeah.
- 41:11I mean the whole love affair with Putin doesn't help him a whole lot either.
- 41:15Ryan: movie?
- 41:16Kearns: fell before.
- 41:16People knew about that.
- 41:17That just added to it.
- 41:19Jon: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:20He had, he had six movies.
- 41:22Kearns: to get
- 41:23Jon: He had six,
- 41:24Kearns: He just,
- 41:25Jon: no.
- 41:26Kearns: existed too long
- 41:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 41:30Yeah.
- 41:30And it, was after six, like six movies.
- 41:32It's about a six movie run at the start of his career where he
- 41:35was like, oh, this guy's cool.
- 41:37And then he started to talk more and you're like, this guy's kind
- 41:41of dumb and kind of a douche.
- 41:44Ryan: I
- 41:44Kearns: I don't even know about that.
- 41:45Ryan: after he beat the shit out of Kelly Lerock.
- 41:48That like
- 41:52he, he, like he was married to her for
- 41:55Jon: Was it hard to kill?
- 41:56Kearns: actually
- 41:56Ryan: beat the
- 41:57Kearns: yeah, that was a funny one.
- 41:58If we rewatch that as a
- 42:00Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:00Kearns: that movie holds up in that capacity.
- 42:03Jon: Alfred
- 42:04Ryan: hard
- 42:04Jon: is out for justice.
- 42:05The the
- 42:06Ryan: that's
- 42:07Jon: Jamaican guys.
- 42:07Ryan: against the
- 42:08Jon: Yeah.
- 42:09Yeah.
- 42:12Ryan: The Voodoo
- 42:13Jon: But after, after Under Siege, I think it's all downhill.
- 42:16Kearns: then under Siege two
- 42:17Ryan: bad,
- 42:18Kearns: was kind of really bad.
- 42:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:21Kearns: watched that one.
- 42:22I
- 42:22Jon: Yeah.
- 42:22Kearns: going into the movies, uh, and watching Under Siege two,
- 42:26Ryan: the train,
- 42:27Kearns: went to like a rainy day matinee, and he saw that and we all
- 42:29saw some stupid movie Power Rangers or something, and he came out, he was like,
- 42:33Ryan: oh,
- 42:34Kearns: yep.
- 42:34Ryan: it wasn't good.
- 42:36Kearns: In the first one.
- 42:36Yeah.
- 42:36And the second one
- 42:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 42:38Ryan: had like, who was it?
- 42:39Tommy Lee
- 42:39Kearns: I remember.
- 42:40I remember.
- 42:40It was just everything was way worse.
- 42:41It was a train instead of a instead
- 42:43Jon: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:46You didn't have Nicole Eggert popping out of a cake.
- 42:49Ryan: yep.
- 42:52Kearns: That helps.
- 42:53But back to pray, the movie we're supposed to be talking about,
- 42:57Ryan: Yes,
- 42:57Kearns: even egal.
- 42:58Um, can you imagine if he was in a though?
- 43:00Can you imagine?
- 43:01Oh God,
- 43:02Ryan: Yes.
- 43:06Kearns: yes.
- 43:06The
- 43:06Jon: The dog does thrive.
- 43:08Kearns: a hero Just to survive.
- 43:09Ryan: to
- 43:09Jon: The dog,
- 43:10Kearns: man.
- 43:10Ryan: does
- 43:11Jon: the dog says bad.
- 43:12Kearns: Yep.
- 43:13Ryan: this.
- 43:13Yeah.
- 43:14worried
- 43:15Kearns: Yeah.
- 43:15Ryan: was like, this dog's gonna get it.
- 43:16At one point in the movie, we're gonna have to bring up
- 43:18another dog killing episode.
- 43:21But
- 43:21Jon: As of recording,
- 43:22Kearns: though we should mention that She's not, uh, in any horror
- 43:25movies unless you feel that way about Father of the Bride,
- 43:27Ryan: Yes.
- 43:28Kearns: but she's wonderful actress and we will be miss.
- 43:31Jon: I mean, Annie Hall's a little scary
- 43:36Kearns: Do you remember the baby?
- 43:37What's the baby one?
- 43:38Um, I mentioned it.
- 43:40Jon: look.
- 43:40Who's talking?
- 43:41Kearns: baby.
- 43:42Ryan: Wasn't
- 43:42Kearns: baby.
- 43:45I, I got it.
- 43:46She used to like, she's got no money and
- 43:49Jon: The legend of the dinosaur.
- 43:50Kearns: and her husband isn't there to help her with the kid.
- 43:52And she's got, she starts like making Apple.
- 43:55Jon: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 43:55Baby boom.
- 43:56Kearns: Yeah.
- 43:57Ryan: good one too.
- 43:58Kearns: And that one that
- 43:59Jon: Why do I know that?
- 44:00Kearns: those movies when we were kids, our moms made us watch them.
- 44:04Jon: I, why do I remember the name of that movie?
- 44:07Kearns: Magnolias.
- 44:09Mom,
- 44:10Jon: I never watched Steel Magnolias.
- 44:12I wouldn't sit for Steel Magnolias.
- 44:14I don't think my mom would watch Steel Magnolias.
- 44:16Kearns: It's, that's harrowing.
- 44:18Yeah.
- 44:18Your mom's so sweetie.
- 44:19That's why
- 44:20Ryan: you
- 44:21Kearns: I get Mystic Pizza.
- 44:22Ryan: Uh, Neil Diamond Christmas specials.
- 44:26Kearns: Mystic.
- 44:26Yeah.
- 44:26Jon: I didn't get that either,
- 44:27Kearns: will spoil Mystic Pizza.
- 44:29She dies.
- 44:30Ryan: I got
- 44:30Kearns: Enjoy the film.
- 44:32Ryan: Touch.
- 44:33Jon: but
- 44:34Ryan: angel.
- 44:34Jon: didn't get any of those.
- 44:35But I got every Jay and Austen adaptation,
- 44:39Kearns: Sorry.
- 44:39You win.
- 44:42Jon: and then every, every musical ever made before like 1985 from my dad.
- 44:48Kearns: singing in the rain and stuff like that.
- 44:51Jon: Every
- 44:52Kearns: like,
- 44:52Jon: thing, I
- 44:53Kearns: one of 47.
- 44:54Ryan: I,
- 44:56Jon: I hate musicals.
- 44:59Kearns: That's torture.
- 45:01Jon: I don't like it.
- 45:02I don't like Rocky Horror.
- 45:03No, I really don't.
- 45:04Kearns: out,
- 45:04Jon: You know?
- 45:05Kearns: into it anymore.
- 45:06I've seen it like 80 times.
- 45:07But we, I went to go
- 45:08Ryan: oh,
- 45:08Kearns: watch it,
- 45:09Ryan: okay.
- 45:10Kearns: um, at one of the cons and I was like, yeah, I got nothing to do.
- 45:13We'll go do the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
- 45:16I walked in, I gave it like 15 minutes and I was like, okay, not into
- 45:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 45:22I, I think that's the only way I would enjoy it too, is in like a,
- 45:26a movie theater with a group of people who are into the whole thing
- 45:29and you get that whole experience.
- 45:31Otherwise, I have no.
- 45:32Kearns: Yeah.
- 45:32Like that.
- 45:33Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 45:33Kearns: I was ready for that vibe, John.
- 45:35They were, they're sort of what you, what they might call dancing.
- 45:39It was like a banquet
- 45:39Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 45:40Ryan: dancing.
- 45:41Kearns: in the big hotel complex.
- 45:42So there was the, it, they had the rusty chairs out, like all the, you know,
- 45:48it just wasn't, it, there was an odor.
- 45:50It smelled like Newports in there.
- 45:53like, it's time to go, it's time to get outta here.
- 45:56It just had that, it just wasn't what it could have been if like
- 45:59that Was that the Alamo Draft house?
- 46:01Right.
- 46:01And it was kind of like that.
- 46:03That would've been cooler.
- 46:04Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:05Kearns: It was sad.
- 46:06Jon: Well,
- 46:06Kearns: to avoid is it was just stat.
- 46:09Ryan: It is the retired horror
- 46:10Jon: mm-hmm.
- 46:12A, a long time ago, Alamo did the room, the Tommy Wiseau movie
- 46:17Kearns: that's a good one.
- 46:18Jon: and like waived their rules about like talking and calling it.
- 46:23That's a fun experience.
- 46:24Ryan: they
- 46:25Kearns: along.
- 46:25Ryan: did that
- 46:26Kearns: Or is it a just you can talk
- 46:28Ryan: they're gonna do it.
- 46:28It's all sold out for screen.
- 46:30They're.
- 46:31Kearns: party.
- 46:33Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:34Ryan: Um, for the
- 46:35Jon: Yeah.
- 46:35Yeah,
- 46:35Ryan: screening
- 46:36Jon: yeah,
- 46:36Ryan: you can like, interact with the people, interact
- 46:39Jon: it is.
- 46:41Ryan: like do the lines and stuff.
- 46:43It's a pretty cool
- 46:43Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 46:44Kearns: to a quota
- 46:45Jon: Yeah.
- 46:45Kearns: there, quota along Princess Bride and they gave
- 46:48us swords and stuff to fight.
- 46:49Ryan: out.
- 46:50It's what
- 46:50Kearns: It was cool.
- 46:51It was cool, man.
- 46:52Yeah,
- 46:53Ryan: That's
- 46:53Kearns: exactly.
- 46:54It'd be sweet, but I would love to do some more stuff like that.
- 46:57But we don't have an Alamo close enough to us.
- 46:59It's just too far out of the range for me to want to drive all that
- 47:01way down there to get to it, I wanna put one in the town or city next to
- 47:06us that will shall remain unnamed.
- 47:09And you have to have a million dollar startup without a loan
- 47:11to start an Alamo draft house.
- 47:13Ryan: Well, because you gotta get the licensing.
- 47:15And you know what though?
- 47:16It's worth it.
- 47:17If you can get a hold a 40 mil millimeter or 35 millimeter film
- 47:22and just be able to like show it.
- 47:25It's, it's, now I understand the last action movie.
- 47:29Now I
- 47:30Kearns: Hmm
- 47:31Ryan: old guy.
- 47:32It's just the
- 47:32Kearns: Hmm.
- 47:34Ryan: It's the love of it.
- 47:39I was
- 47:40Jon: no glass eyes.
- 47:40Kearns: is talking about?
- 47:42in the audience?
- 47:43Do you guys know which movie he's referencing?
- 47:46Ryan: No.
- 47:46Kearns: I don't think you said the title correctly, for starters.
- 47:51Yeah, you said last action movie.
- 47:54The last I put it together 'cause I speak
- 47:56Ryan: Action
- 47:57Kearns: Ryan, but,
- 47:58Ryan: the last action
- 47:59Kearns: but
- 48:00Jon: I knew what he was talking about.
- 48:01Yeah.
- 48:02Kearns: good stuff.
- 48:02There you go.
- 48:03Jon: We speak Ryan.
- 48:04Kearns: now the glass eye and everything should all be coming back
- 48:06to you, and we're all on the same
- 48:08Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 48:08Kearns: Thanks for being on this journey with us.
- 48:11Jon: And that, that soundtrack, guys, that soundtrack was pretty darn cool.
- 48:15Kearns: great.
- 48:16It was great.
- 48:17Jon: Uhhuh you had, you had Alison, you said you had Alison Chains on
- 48:22there and Mega Death and Queens Rike.
- 48:25That
- 48:25Kearns: that
- 48:26Jon: was a,
- 48:27Kearns: I had that cd, I remember the CD case cover, and I
- 48:29Jon: mm-hmm.
- 48:30Kearns: end of days, the end of days movie sound.
- 48:34That one went hard.
- 48:35There's Marilyn Manson on there, there's some stuff.
- 48:38Jon: The one
- 48:39Ryan: of day soundtrack was awesome
- 48:41Jon: Guns n Roses song in that
- 48:43Kearns: yeah, that's
- 48:43Jon: period between Use Your Illusions and Chinese democracy?
- 48:47Kearns: Isn't that the spaghetti incident era or is that another time?
- 48:51Ryan: Yeah.
- 48:51Jon: it that was post spaghetti incident too.
- 48:54That that was, that was I think just Axle Guns N Roses.
- 48:59I don't think any of the other guys were there back at yet.
- 49:03That might have been that.
- 49:05Uh, I think that might predate bucket head Guns N Roses even.
- 49:08Ryan: no.
- 49:10Kearns: Now it's sad.
- 49:11Guns and roses.
- 49:12Why do they ever let him hold a mic again?
- 49:14Like Axl, you're done, bro.
- 49:16Ryan: Yes.
- 49:17Jon: Because, 'cause they missed 30 years of earning.
- 49:22Ryan: People who have seen him,
- 49:27well,
- 49:27Kearns: He's not.
- 49:28Ryan: have seen them try to like put up the flag and be
- 49:31like, no, no, he's still good.
- 49:33And I'm like, I've, I've
- 49:35Kearns: Yeah.
- 49:35Ryan: like on YouTube recently, and it's like, you gotta see
- 49:39a show, see Judas Priest.
- 49:41still rocking.
- 49:42Jon: Well, the thing with Axl Roses, and now we're way off topic.
- 49:46Um,
- 49:47Ryan: nothing.
- 49:47Jon: if you, if you listen to him, do the lower parts, the non falsetto
- 49:53parts of Guns n Roses songs, he can still do that, which makes me wonder
- 49:58why he just doesn't bring everything down a little bit and make it sound, I
- 50:03think he's trying to hit these notes.
- 50:05He knows he can't hit hit for a fan experience, and it's just
- 50:10he should, I think he could pull it off in a different register.
- 50:14Ryan: Yeah.
- 50:15You, talk about a fan experience real quick.
- 50:19Jon: I saw that.
- 50:20Yeah.
- 50:20Ryan: believe from the Lost boys come back up and he's performing again.
- 50:25You saw it with the purple pants.
- 50:27I was like, he the he, no, he can't even blow that saxophone right anymore.
- 50:32Kearns: You know what the
- 50:33Jon: I mean,
- 50:34Kearns: Steven Tyler sing, dream on and hit the notes
- 50:37Jon: mm-hmm.
- 50:38Kearns: jealous.
- 50:38I think that's what it is.
- 50:40Jon: America, America's grandma.
- 50:42Kearns: I was thinking slash could have probably been one of the
- 50:45predators in disguise the whole time.
- 50:46Maybe he was hunting axle.
- 50:49But I, that was the only way I could try to connect it back to the movie.
- 50:51All right.
- 50:51Back to pre.
- 50:52So
- 50:54Jon: All right.
- 50:54Yeah.
- 50:55Ryan: be
- 50:55Jon: Pray is good.
- 50:55I like pray.
- 50:56Do you wanna wrap?
- 50:57Pray up with another one star though that,
- 51:04oh, this guy does not like this movie at all.
- 51:07Ryan: they
- 51:07Kearns: after the one star
- 51:08Ryan: this movie.
- 51:09It's a tragedy.
- 51:10Jon: One star watched it with my spouse and both of us
- 51:14found it overhyped and boring.
- 51:17My partner did not even complete the movie and decided to sleep in midst of
- 51:22climax scene, which is probably not the first time she fell asleep in a climax.
- 51:27Kearns: I.
- 51:28Jon: When the lead actress,
- 51:35when the lead actress was having a final showdown with the alien, I, too, was bored
- 51:41by then, but still decided to complete the movie as only few minutes of it were left.
- 51:48Found this story ludicrous and main actress, irritating and uninteresting.
- 51:54Her brother the only good actor in movie who looked credible as a warrior
- 51:59and commanded good presence on screen.
- 52:05It's the female thing.
- 52:06Entire movie plot can be summed up as a kid who is failing his nursery class
- 52:12exams again and again suddenly scores an ace in a national medical entrance exam.
- 52:19Entire movie.
- 52:21The lead actress wants to prove everybody how great hunters she is and
- 52:26That is what she is shown bad in every time she is given a chance.
- 52:32For my God, for once I felt happy when the guys from the tribe bullied her.
- 52:39She deserved it.
- 52:40Frankly, not able to kill a house fly.
- 52:44Suddenly towards the end, she is beating French poachers or whoever
- 52:49they were, and a super computer fitted alien with help of her expressionless
- 52:55glare and Disney World Dog.
- 52:58I wonder why is this boring movie rated so high by critics on Rotten Tomatoes?
- 53:04No wonder movie critics are taken as seriously as a burp
- 53:09after drinking Coca-Cola.
- 53:12Avoid this movie and save your hours.
- 53:15Kearns: That's the best part of the review right there.
- 53:18Jon: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 53:19That that's a good fricking line.
- 53:21I'll give him that.
- 53:22PS.
- 53:23Ryan: Yes, I
- 53:24Jon: Directors, please avoid the action scenes in dark.
- 53:28Ryan: But
- 53:29Jon: something from the Game of Thrones episode when people couldn't make out
- 53:33head and tail of Dragon in the dark setup.
- 53:37Same happens here during climax scene.
- 53:40Really couldn't make out what was happening and who was killing whom.
- 53:46Yeah, that,
- 53:46Kearns: Ugh,
- 53:47Jon: yeah.
- 53:48Kearns: Take
- 53:49Jon: I'm gonna,
- 53:51Ryan: yeah.
- 53:52Jon: I, I,
- 53:53Kearns: they're talking about.
- 53:53Jon: I almost had a stroke reading that.
- 53:55Ryan: was
- 53:56Jon: that is rough.
- 53:57Kearns: And the scene they're talking about, maybe there is a dark dragon
- 53:59scene, but I think the one everybody hated
- 54:02Ryan: from me,
- 54:02Kearns: was the one where they started the war and like Yeah.
- 54:05The last second or third or last episode.
- 54:08I mean, you didn't see any of like an entire army getting massacred.
- 54:11Ryan: eight.
- 54:12Yep.
- 54:13Kearns: They saved a ton of money by not doing it too.
- 54:15I know that they like said it was a mistake and you could change your
- 54:19lighting and see it, and you can't.
- 54:20They didn't animate.
- 54:21There's no CGI anyway, pray.
- 54:25What do you give it, Brian?
- 54:26What's your rating for prey?
- 54:28Five stars and down.
- 54:29Ryan: I would do
- 54:30Kearns: You're an easy beat.
- 54:31Ryan: I. give it a four and a half star, four and a half out a five star.
- 54:35Um, because again, I, I listen Predator's a five star.
- 54:40I don't believe it's on the same level.
- 54:43Like it's not a five star movie like The Predator.
- 54:45'cause The Predator originated it, brought it into this world, prey
- 54:50it back the spotlight, I can say.
- 54:54'cause it's like, again, that buildup, it's reintroducing the
- 54:57Kearns: what it did really well by the way.
- 54:58It appealed to two different, two very different audience types, like
- 55:03people like me, you and John liking the same movie as Gen Zers anomalous.
- 55:09That's cool.
- 55:11John, what do you give it?
- 55:13Ryan: Yes,
- 55:14Jon: I'll go about 4.25,
- 55:17Ryan: yes
- 55:17Jon: uh oh,
- 55:19Kearns: Three.
- 55:20Uh, cool.
- 55:214.25 man.
- 55:244.25.
- 55:27I was just dropping the decimal amount lower.
- 55:31Just I was taking the piss.
- 55:33Ryan: I thought you said
- 55:33Kearns: Out of John,
- 55:34Ryan: 0
- 55:36Kearns: I didn't know we were like cutting up into, I thought maybe Hals were as
- 55:39hard as we were gonna go into that John
- 55:42Jon: I'll go four.
- 55:43I'll go 4.25.
- 55:44That's
- 55:46Kearns: But I mean, it makes sense because when you think about it more
- 55:48and more, like if you're ranking all of your favorite movies of all
- 55:52time, does Predator get the five?
- 55:53No, probably not.
- 55:55It probably gets like a three and a
- 55:56Jon: no.
- 55:57Kearns: And if you're doing just the
- 55:58Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 55:59Kearns: well then pray.
- 56:00Well, where does it fall?
- 56:01Well, if it's three on the list, it's like a 4.25 kind of makes sense.
- 56:06If it's a five or whatever, these are all
- 56:09Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:09Kearns: That's the issue.
- 56:10Jon: Yeah.
- 56:11Kearns: now.
- 56:11I would give it a four for whatever.
- 56:144.25 is fine.
- 56:15A 4.5 is also fine.
- 56:16I really admire the movie.
- 56:18I admire the execution.
- 56:19Um,
- 56:20Ryan: Yeah.
- 56:20Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 56:21Kearns: I admire the young lady who killed the damn monster and.
- 56:28Naru I just think these people are stupid.
- 56:30You have to suspend your disbelief.
- 56:33Ryan: Naru.
- 56:34Jon: Yeah.
- 56:35Kearns: about an
- 56:36Jon: Yeah,
- 56:37Kearns: that's attacking a Comanche warrior
- 56:40Ryan: Yes,
- 56:40Kearns: kill
- 56:40Jon: yeah.
- 56:42Ryan: yes,
- 56:42Jon: Yeah.
- 56:44Ryan: yes.
- 56:46Kearns: Also interesting that the Grizzly didn't do more damage
- 56:49to him though in that one scene.
- 56:51Ryan: It's just
- 56:51Kearns: I really wish the Grizzly had kind of taken a little bit
- 56:53more of a chunk out of them.
- 56:55'cause it's a grizzly bear.
- 56:57Ryan: Yeah.
- 56:58That would've been a cool,
- 56:59Kearns: Yeah,
- 57:00Ryan: bandaging up and just like him repairing his wound,
- 57:04because the wolf gets him too.
- 57:06The wolf
- 57:06Kearns: like they did in Predator two.
- 57:08Ryan: maybe adding scenes where
- 57:10Kearns: Yeah, there's the repair scenes
- 57:11Ryan: more
- 57:13Kearns: But yeah.
- 57:13I love, I just love it.
- 57:15But anyway, we're, we're gonna,
- 57:16Ryan: Give a
- 57:17Kearns: gonna rope out right here.
- 57:18Everybody that was pray we're, now it's time for some top five action, right Boys?
- 57:28Ryan: Ooh, I am ready.
- 57:29And
- 57:30Kearns: I hope it's the first week you really don't talk about your top
- 57:33fives and let's just get 'em done.
- 57:35Ryan: I always like mention, but I,
- 57:42you
- 57:42Kearns: Oh, good one.
- 57:43Ryan: never happen because tonight we're going with Hunted.
- 57:49So we're going with movie themes of being hunted, and we're starting with
- 57:52Kearns: Oh yeah.
- 57:53Ryan: know the gentleman very well.
- 57:55Both of you guys know him.
- 57:56You've worked with him, you've seen him in the gym.
- 57:57That's Steven Lang.
- 57:59We've mentioned this movie many of times, and that's Don't Breathe.
- 58:02Um, I was contemplating it because it's like, oh, they're
- 58:05trespassing in his house.
- 58:07But no, they become prey to him because of the traps and just,
- 58:13you know, he's a blind veteran.
- 58:16badass.
- 58:16Kearns: talk about it.
- 58:17There's another episode.
- 58:18We talk about it.
- 58:19Ryan: It's a
- 58:20Kearns: Look for it in the archives, everybody.
- 58:26Ryan: Yeah.
- 58:29But my nu my number four.
- 58:32It's one of my, uh, it's recent favorites.
- 58:34I really love this movie.
- 58:36Um, this one is like more on the move when it comes for the
- 58:41Kearns: I hit
- 58:42Ryan: his prey.
- 58:42Jon: The hitch is
- 58:43Ryan: that's
- 58:43Jon: so good.
- 58:44Ryan: in the Hitcher.
- 58:46Jon: So
- 58:47Ryan: that movie.
- 58:47I, I
- 58:51it's so good.
- 58:54I'm sad I saw it later on in life.
- 58:55'cause it was one of those movies that kind of like, like I never got a
- 58:59chance to watch it or get a hold of it.
- 59:02And
- 59:03Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 59:04Ryan: Syndrome
- 59:04Jon: Yeah.
- 59:05There's a,
- 59:05Ryan: there
- 59:06Jon: there's a cool import of it.
- 59:08Yeah.
- 59:08Ryan: are watching
- 59:09Jon: See you, you had that.
- 59:11I didn't appreciate the hitcher until I was older because
- 59:14it was just on all the time.
- 59:17It was not h Yeah, it was on HBO, like all every day.
- 59:22Ryan: I feel like a lot of that with the HBO movies during that time, not
- 59:25certain, not to segue, but like you got also like Cannonball run at that
- 59:28time too, probably on repeat and stuff.
- 59:32And I feel like HBO at that time was
- 59:33Jon: Nah.
- 59:34Ryan: self-made
- 59:35Jon: it was, it was like all studio movies, but there was, there was like,
- 59:39Ryan: come.
- 59:40Jon: you'd get the same ones about three or four times a week.
- 59:45Like I, I saw the nude bomb maybe 50 times when I was a kid.
- 59:49And every time, every time I was disappointed because there's almost no
- 59:53nudity in a movie called The Nude Bomb
- 1:00:00was the whole reason I watched that movie when I was 10.
- 1:00:03I was like, I'm gonna see boobs.
- 1:00:05Ryan: was gonna be
- 1:00:06Jon: I'm not gonna see any,
- 1:00:08Kearns: Nada.
- 1:00:11Jon: yeah.
- 1:00:13Ryan: Uh, the giveaway was Maxwell Smart.
- 1:00:15But for my number three, the biggest giveaway Sigourney Weaver.
- 1:00:23Kearns: Good
- 1:00:23Jon: Three.
- 1:00:24Kearns: on its own.
- 1:00:26Ryan: And
- 1:00:26Kearns: Stands on its own.
- 1:00:27No need to explain.
- 1:00:30Ryan: No, alien one.
- 1:00:35Well, no, no.
- 1:00:36Hold on, hold on.
- 1:00:37You'll my ne my nother my next two.
- 1:00:39You'll understand my next two in the Ryan verse.
- 1:00:42This is gonna make sense, but I will leave this with a nice quote, from Ridley Scott.
- 1:00:47he considers it one of the best films he's ever directed, as well as the best films.
- 1:00:53of in the market today.
- 1:00:55And I kinda agree with them how it's filmed and everything,
- 1:00:58and the pacing and the buildup.
- 1:01:00It's, it's a good movie to watch, especially if you love film.
- 1:01:04Now, number two, we mentioned it, it's our number ones all our number
- 1:01:08ones stars, our favorite body
- 1:01:10Kearns: Son of the beach.
- 1:01:12Ryan: that is the Predator.
- 1:01:13And that is one ugly son of a bitch.
- 1:01:16That's all I'm gonna say on that.
- 1:01:18It's such a good movie.
- 1:01:19And I always remember the opening, um, oh, a little later in the
- 1:01:24opening when they're on the plane you got Jesse the Body Ventura.
- 1:01:27You got Bill Duke.
- 1:01:29Um, I'm forgetting the gentleman who was actually crazy on set.
- 1:01:34he got all these great actors, people, and it's just, it's a great, great film.
- 1:01:40And that leads to the number one you question why aliens number three?
- 1:01:45It's because John
- 1:01:47Kearns: You love this movie.
- 1:01:49Ryan: it's a. The con.
- 1:01:51I I was figuring it out.
- 1:01:53The concepts there.
- 1:01:55Oh, I love the thing.
- 1:01:56And the thing is, is, pun intended, the thing is they bring this, this,
- 1:02:02the thing into their own camp.
- 1:02:04They think, and it's spoiler, it's a dog, it become, its prey.
- 1:02:09They let the hunter into their own safe nest.
- 1:02:13And it's just, uh, I love it.
- 1:02:15I
- 1:02:15Kearns: We can't do this thing for a long time.
- 1:02:17We have to like, that's gonna be the most special episode ever.
- 1:02:20Ryan: looking out.
- 1:02:24Kearns: Yeah.
- 1:02:24Like we're gonna have to do Stu, that's gotta be an event.
- 1:02:27Ryan: I ca I am
- 1:02:28Kearns: But, all right.
- 1:02:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:02:29Kearns: list, Ryan.
- 1:02:30That was great.
- 1:02:30Good job, buddy.
- 1:02:31All right.
- 1:02:32Jon: I like that.
- 1:02:32Kearns: turn.
- 1:02:33It's John turn.
- 1:02:34Ryan: It's so
- 1:02:35Jon: Hey,
- 1:02:35Ryan: good.
- 1:02:35Jon: so I went with, um,
- 1:02:38Ryan: Thank you.
- 1:02:38Jon: five movies with Native Americans.
- 1:02:43Kearns: it does one take place in
- 1:02:44Jon: Yep.
- 1:02:44Kearns: Oh, okay.
- 1:02:46Some people think Last of the Mohicans is a horror movie
- 1:02:49Jon: Uh, it, I don't, but Okay.
- 1:02:52So my number five is a movie based on a true story.
- 1:02:55Ryan: but the
- 1:02:56Jon: The true story of the Colorado Cannibal it stars Guy Pierce, Robert
- 1:03:02Carlisle and David Arquette, and it is ravenous, Group of soldiers at a military
- 1:03:08ad post in the 19th century won run afoul of a cannibalistic creature person thing.
- 1:03:17Kearns: person.
- 1:03:19Jon: Yeah, you get some when to go, kind of influences in there.
- 1:03:25You get some cool stuff going on,
- 1:03:27Kearns: You had me at Wendigo, my
- 1:03:28Jon: so.
- 1:03:30Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:30Have you not seen ravenous?
- 1:03:32Kearns: saw Raven, I saw Ravenous a while
- 1:03:34Jon: Okay.
- 1:03:35Kearns: know what you mean by the Wendy.
- 1:03:35Go
- 1:03:36Jon: Yeah.
- 1:03:36Kearns: reference.
- 1:03:37Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:38I rewatched it the other day after I put it on the list.
- 1:03:41'cause I haven't seen it in a long time.
- 1:03:42It holds up really well.
- 1:03:44Kearns: I
- 1:03:45Jon: a good time,
- 1:03:45Kearns: like Cinemax or something way back.
- 1:03:48Jon: probably.
- 1:03:49Yeah.
- 1:03:50Kearns: I remember that
- 1:03:52Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:03:52Kearns: get up and pee.
- 1:03:53You were missing
- 1:03:54Ryan: Oh
- 1:03:54Kearns: minute and a
- 1:03:55Jon: Yeah.
- 1:03:56Kearns: back in the day.
- 1:03:57Kids.
- 1:03:57All right?
- 1:03:59Jon: You learn, you learn to pee fast.
- 1:04:02Kearns: Or just out the window,
- 1:04:04Jon: Yeah.
- 1:04:06Yep.
- 1:04:07Ryan: yes.
- 1:04:08Kearns: not
- 1:04:08Ryan: with commercials.
- 1:04:11Not from the second
- 1:04:12Jon: So my num,
- 1:04:13Kearns: out.
- 1:04:13Jon: my number four.
- 1:04:14It is a horror movie that stars James Denton, who you'd recognize
- 1:04:18if you saw him and Chris Catan and a bunch of other comedians pop up.
- 1:04:23And it, it's a zombie movie called Undead or Alive.
- 1:04:27Kearns: Chris Catan,
- 1:04:28Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:29An AWOL soldier and a broken hearted cowboy, Rob, a corrupt
- 1:04:33sheriff, unaware that a zombie outbreak is headed their way.
- 1:04:39Yeah, it, it's a horror comedy, like they're not playing this straight
- 1:04:43by any stretch of the imagination.
- 1:04:45It's a good time.
- 1:04:49Kearns: What is
- 1:04:52Ryan: You sold me
- 1:04:52Kearns: Corky Romano.
- 1:04:53Ryan: I am, I have a soft spot for Chris Cattan.
- 1:04:57Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:04:57Ryan: Quirky Romano man.
- 1:04:59Jon: Yep.
- 1:05:00Ryan: Yes.
- 1:05:01Question.
- 1:05:01Yes.
- 1:05:02Jon: Number three
- 1:05:03Ryan: No.
- 1:05:04Jon: is a sequel in, in that it's a number two of a movie.
- 1:05:09It's creep.
- 1:05:09Show two
- 1:05:11Kearns: That makes sense
- 1:05:12Jon: specifically.
- 1:05:14Yep.
- 1:05:15Specifically the old chief wooden head segment.
- 1:05:17When a cigar store Indian comes to life to avenge the murders
- 1:05:21of a shop owner and his wife.
- 1:05:22With George Kennedy, who I love.
- 1:05:24I love George Kennedy.
- 1:05:25I love seeing him pop up and stuff.
- 1:05:28He's like,
- 1:05:29Ryan: Yep.
- 1:05:30Jon: he's the coolest.
- 1:05:31Like he, he's like the most underrated part in the Naked Gun series.
- 1:05:36Ryan: George.
- 1:05:36Jon: He's
- 1:05:37Kearns: that's
- 1:05:37Jon: good straight man.
- 1:05:41Kearns: Fair statement,
- 1:05:41Jon: Yeah.
- 1:05:42number two gets us our second David Arquette appearance in my top five and
- 1:05:48a and our second Kurt Russell mentioned
- 1:05:51Kearns: What?
- 1:05:54Jon: our, he's been in bone tomahawk.
- 1:05:58Kearns: He isn't Bone Tomahawk.
- 1:06:00Jon: Yep.
- 1:06:01Kearns: movie.
- 1:06:01Yeah, that's a good one.
- 1:06:02Jon: That is woo.
- 1:06:04Ryan: oh,
- 1:06:04Jon: It is a rough, rough one.
- 1:06:07Um, it's another s Craig Zoller movie.
- 1:06:09I've put him on one of my top fives before.
- 1:06:11He's always, he does gore really well.
- 1:06:15He does.
- 1:06:16You know, a lot of uncomfortable things really well.
- 1:06:20So bone Tomahawk Kurt Russell starts as a sheriff who sets out with his posse, tres,
- 1:06:25some towns folk who were kidnapped by a cannibalistic tribe that lives in caves
- 1:06:32Kearns: It's the
- 1:06:32Jon: and like that last like 25, 30 minutes when they're
- 1:06:36in the caves is rough.
- 1:06:38Kearns: to the um, 10th degree.
- 1:06:39I can't stand body horror, so I was very uncomfortable at that portion of the film.
- 1:06:44Ryan: Yeah, it is.
- 1:06:45Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:06:46Yep.
- 1:06:46Yep.
- 1:06:48And number one is a zombie movie I think is just bleak and bloody and beautiful.
- 1:06:54It's, called Blood Quantum.
- 1:06:58Yeah.
- 1:06:58the indigenous residents of a reservation are immune but not
- 1:07:02impervious to zombie outbreak in their small, isolated part of Canada.
- 1:07:09And it's, they.
- 1:07:12It's so well done.
- 1:07:13It's, it wa I believe it was a shutter original, like
- 1:07:17Kearns: back in the
- 1:07:18D.
- 1:07:18Jon: way back, like probably like 2019.
- 1:07:222020.
- 1:07:23Ryan: Okay.
- 1:07:24Jon: was an early shutter.
- 1:07:27It's just they did, they did such a good job with it.
- 1:07:30And it, I mean, is it's, is it better than bone Toma Hook?
- 1:07:34Maybe not, but it needs more attention.
- 1:07:36Like people need to see blood quantum.
- 1:07:38Kearns: All right, so that's your homework, ladies and gentlemen.
- 1:07:40Blood quantum and,
- 1:07:42Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:07:42Kearns: Ryan's number one?
- 1:07:43I forgot already.
- 1:07:45Ryan: Blood
- 1:07:45Kearns: The thing.
- 1:07:46Yeah.
- 1:07:46If you
- 1:07:46Jon: The thing.
- 1:07:47Kearns: you wouldn't be listening to this podcast.
- 1:07:48Well, actually, we have some people who might and not have seen the
- 1:07:51thing who are listening to this.
- 1:07:53gotta go and do that.
- 1:07:54You gotta find somebody warm, snuggle up next to 'em.
- 1:07:57Don't trust
- 1:07:58Jon: Yep.
- 1:07:58Kearns: real identity and watch the thing with them.
- 1:08:01and we are not
- 1:08:02Jon: Mm-hmm.
- 1:08:02Kearns: for anything that happens after all that.
- 1:08:05Ryan: and a little
- 1:08:06Kearns: All right guys, that was pray.
- 1:08:07So hope you enjoyed the podcast.
- 1:08:10Hope you enjoyed, pray.
