- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome to a new show, Kenny and Charlie Top
- 0:05two the top two stories of the day brought to you by Jags, the
- 0:10leader in high performance aftermarket car parts.
- 0:14Remember to go to jags.com and they have told me they have a
- 0:17lot of truck parts, Jeep parts to fix your hot rods up.
- 0:22Charlie Marlow, how you doing today, buddy?
- 0:26I'm doing great, Kenny. How are you Sir?
- 0:28Well, I'm excited to do the Kenny and Charlie top two
- 0:32stories. So something that really came up
- 0:35on our radar. Charlie was, you know, when when
- 0:40Chase Elliott just got done winning Texas, we thought, oh,
- 0:45he's finally back. You know we need him.
- 0:50When you and I interviewed Ben Kennedy, who runs NASCAR, he
- 0:54told us that when Chase Elliott wins, we see a big tick up.
- 1:01But you and I had noticed that when Chase wins, it's really the
- 1:07old people, his dad's fans, Bill Elliott's fans.
- 1:12What is your take on the 40 to 60 year old people really
- 1:16excited that Chase Elliott wins? So that's very interesting.
- 1:22I would also think there's some, maybe some young ladies.
- 1:25It seems like the young ladies also really like Chase Elliott.
- 1:29But I do think, you know the older generation of NASCAR fans
- 1:33and I've really seen this through your channel and the
- 1:36comments and all that. And I and I would agree, I'm,
- 1:39I'm 41 years old, but there was something different.
- 1:42You know, I grew up in the 80s and 90s.
- 1:44Just the cars, the color schemes, the names, the
- 1:49nicknames, the fights, You know, there's just something about
- 1:53that, that throwback era of NASCAR.
- 1:56It does feel a little too corporate these days.
- 2:00You know, some of these young drivers are these young, good
- 2:02looking kids and a lot of them have a lot of money.
- 2:04I think. I think a lot of people like the
- 2:06folks like your family back in the day who who built the cars
- 2:09they were underneath the cars. I just think that classic NASCAR
- 2:1370s, eighties, 90s, it's just it brings a lot of people from your
- 2:17age group back to their youth. We all love our youth.
- 2:20I love music from the 90s because I cared about music.
- 2:24Tears, right? I don't.
- 2:26Care about music now? Yeah.
- 2:28So I think. I think everybody loves their
- 2:30their youth and they think it was better back then.
- 2:33And I think with NASCAR it's fair to say it was.
- 2:36It seemed more fun back then. And not to mention that you and
- 2:40I have brought up lately it is that and and and everybody quit
- 2:45battling me finally on our Kenny conversations or Kenny Wallace
- 2:50shows. We've said that officially
- 2:53finally Chase Elliott is the last of the bloodline of the
- 2:57greats. Now listen respond right here
- 2:59everybody but Charlie. I mean I know Ryan Blaney is one
- 3:03of the championship and and I I love his dad Dave and and his
- 3:07dad Dave was great but he was never a NASCAR great.
- 3:10He didn't win any races. I didn't win any races.
- 3:14So me and Dave Blaney are kind of the same.
- 3:16I believe Chase Elliott is the very last of the great bloodline
- 3:23from his dad. What do you think about that?
- 3:26Yeah, I think there's a lot of truth to that.
- 3:28I I think it's funny, too. We've talked about this a lot,
- 3:31this current crop of drivers I I love personally, Denny Hamlin.
- 3:36Kyle Busch. Because they're they're
- 3:38interesting. I didn't really grow up a
- 3:40hardcore NASCAR fan, so I would say now now I'm hardcore with
- 3:44with you obviously, but I'm more of a casual, so I need a little
- 3:47more of the extra to probably get into it.
- 3:49We've talked about how you know William Byer and Ryan Blaney.
- 3:53Great guys, great drivers, but a little little milk toast and.
- 3:58Right. And it's like to me it's funny
- 4:00because I think, I think Chase is kind of like that too.
- 4:04But people love him. It's almost like Chase is so
- 4:06polite, he's so respectful. And he also appreciates the
- 4:11history of NASCAR, which I think people love.
- 4:13You saw him do the what, the Polish victory lap talking about
- 4:16Alan Kowicki and I think people love that, especially your
- 4:20generation, NASCAR fans. They love when people appreciate
- 4:24the history. And Chase Elliott for the last
- 4:26three years, when I've really paid more attention to NASCAR,
- 4:29he's always so respectful of the history of the sport.
- 4:33So Kenny and Charlie, top two, now it's Danica Patrick who's
- 4:37we're going to talk about. Danica Patrick, she reminds me a
- 4:42lot of great racers, they they either love them or they hate
- 4:48them. And I've seen a lot of, I've
- 4:51taken a lot of polls lately, you know, and it seems like it's
- 4:55always 7030. We had Danica Patrick on Kenny
- 5:00conversation. She literally blew away.
- 5:05I mean, she's up to 85,000 views and that was an hour 20 minute
- 5:10show. So either people come on because
- 5:12they hate her, which is a very strong word.
- 5:15I don't like the word hate. She's over 85,000 views in no
- 5:20time. So what is your take?
- 5:23Why is Danica Patrick so polarizing?
- 5:28That's a great question. I just think anytime, I don't
- 5:30want to say she was the first, but she was, she was kind of one
- 5:33of the first big time women drivers, obviously IndyCar, then
- 5:38NASCAR. She's basically the same age as
- 5:40me. I remember interviewing her
- 5:42years ago around Michigan International Speedway when she
- 5:45was in IndyCar. Look, I I think whenever you're
- 5:49different, you're going to have people who are celebrating you,
- 5:52other people who are hating on you a little bit, You know,
- 5:55there's I think there's also political ramifications to that,
- 5:58especially now you can tell on her podcast like she likes to
- 6:01get into these topics. She likes controversy.
- 6:05And look, let's be real, Don't we all?
- 6:07Isn't isn't that what's interesting about just the
- 6:10content in general? I mean, she said some
- 6:12controversial things on on your show, obviously about suing
- 6:16Andretti. She made some comments about
- 6:18Logano and Martin, Trex Junior and Denny Hamlin, but look that
- 6:22that's how she felt and that's interesting.
- 6:25I think people want authentic folks and I think ever since
- 6:29Danica started doing the the podcast, like she understands
- 6:32this, This is interesting, this is what people want.
- 6:35You don't want to listen to a 90 minute podcast and and it's
- 6:38boring. I mean at least there should be
- 6:40two or three. Wow man, did you hear what she
- 6:42said? And I feel like she gets that
- 6:44she's interviewing Jordan Peterson and Tucker Carlson.
- 6:47That's kind of the that's kind of the world we live in.
- 6:49People want interesting, authentic topics, and I think
- 6:52she brings that. And and Charlie, I think she's a
- 6:55throwback from the past. She reminds me and my brother
- 6:59Rusty Wallace. Rusty's calm down a lot now.
- 7:02He just wants to chill out. But my God, my brother Rusty.
- 7:06He'd say anything. He was so controversial.
- 7:10And now you know I can't. I I I talked to Jeff Gordon.
- 7:14I can't get him to get William Byron to talk.
- 7:16I'm like Jeff, Jeff, William, Byron is.
- 7:19He's our, he's our guy. He's winning all the races.
- 7:22He's got to talk. But people are so afraid now.
- 7:27They're locked down. I think Danica Patrick is a
- 7:31breath of fresh air. She's from the past, even though
- 7:34she's young. Was she 42, maybe 40?
- 7:37She's 42. But what I like about Danica
- 7:41Patrick is she says what everybody's thinking and then
- 7:46they all go, Oh my God, how dare you say what I'm thinking?
- 7:49You know, you can't say that, but I wish there was.
- 7:53I wish the guys were more like Danica.
- 7:57But I mean, I'm. I'm saying she's polarizing.
- 8:01She says what she thinks and then people respond.
- 8:05She's successful in everything she does.
- 8:08I agree with you, Charlie. I I think that she's going
- 8:11places that everybody's afraid to go.
- 8:14And listen, all the males chauvinists out there, they're
- 8:17jealous. I don't care if she won a race
- 8:20on gas mileage or not. She's she she runs third in the
- 8:23Indy 500. She LED laps.
- 8:25She won an IndyCar race. And Charlie, let me ask you a
- 8:28question. What kind of men are these that
- 8:32go she she only won on gas mileage.
- 8:34Are these in? Are these insecure men?
- 8:39100%, I was. I was about ready to get to that
- 8:41part of it because we're talking about Danica.
- 8:44But again, I, I go through your comments section all the time.
- 8:48It can be Danica, and it's the same type of comments.
- 8:51If it's about Hayley Deegan, Natalie Decker, Tony Bridinger,
- 8:56we have her on the podcast that hasn't been released yet, but
- 8:58it's always, oh, she's a woman. The only reason she got the ride
- 9:02is she's a woman. Oh, just 'cause she's a pretty
- 9:04face. And I'm like, what's wrong?
- 9:05What's wrong with that? By the way, Hey, you know this,
- 9:08There's a lot of dudes. I mean, there's not a lot of
- 9:11ugly NASCAR drivers too. Marketing is a huge part of it.
- 9:14There's probably a lot of dude drivers who might have been tied
- 9:18with somebody else to get a ride and they're like, hey, let's
- 9:20they're kind of the same. Let's pick the good looking guy.
- 9:22He can sell more product and what?
- 9:24What's wrong with looking at a a pretty lady?
- 9:26What's wrong with that? Yeah, I agree with you.
- 9:29Well, there it is, everybody. Kenny and Charlie top two in 10
- 9:33minutes. Charlie, let's end like this.
- 9:36There's Coke and Pepsi, but nobody calls it Coke or Pepsi.
- 9:39Is it soda or pop? All right.
- 9:42I'm, I'm more passionate about this topic.
- 9:44Then then Chase Elliott and Danica Patrick combined.
- 9:48All right. I'm from Toledo.
- 9:50OH, we are a pop city. We're a pop area.
- 9:55We call it pop. We don't call it soda.
- 9:58We don't call it soda pop. We don't call it Coke, but then
- 10:00so I lived in Toledo 1st, 18 years of my life, go to College
- 10:05in Illinois. I've lived in Saint Louis for
- 10:07now, what, 16 years? It's a soda town.
- 10:10This is one thing I I will, I will never call it soda.
- 10:13It's always pop. And also I'm trying to get my
- 10:16kids to call it pop, which is going to be hard because they're
- 10:19growing up. But this is one of those things
- 10:21I'll put up the pop versus soda map.
- 10:23It's pretty cool to look across the country at who calls it pop,
- 10:27who calls it soda, and who calls it Cokes, I'm guessing.
- 10:30Did you grow up with it? Soda?
- 10:32Charlie, let's end it just like that for me.
- 10:34It's soda. All right, everybody.
- 10:36Listen. We are, we are in podcast form.
- 10:40Go to iTunes or Spotify. And this is our new show, Kenny
- 10:44and CC, that was a lot of fun. Thank you buddy.
- 10:47Awesome, man. We'll do it a lot.
- 10:49We'll do it a lot. All right.
- 10:50See you all next time on Kenny and Charlie, Top two.
