Latest / Elon Musk Podcast / Elon Musk under federal investigation over $44 Billion Twitter deal Scandal
Transcript
- 0:00Elon Musk is under federal investigation relating, his
- 0:03forty four billion dollar takeover deal of Twitter.
- 0:06This news came from a court filing.
- 0:08It was made public on Thursday about the latest ongoing legal
- 0:12disputes between the billionaire musk and The Social Network
- 0:16though. Twitter said he was under
- 0:17investigation, say what, the focused of that investigation
- 0:21was all about. They said, this game of hide,
- 0:23the ball must end, what are sued Elon Musk in July, to force him
- 0:27to close this deal and he said that.
- 0:30Lawyers for the Tesla. CEO claimed investigative
- 0:33privilege. When refusing to hand over
- 0:36documents that it wanted. It also said that it requested
- 0:39musk's attorneys produce their Communications with Federal
- 0:43authorities months ago, but they haven't done.
- 0:46So, and in late September elon's attorneys provided a privileged
- 0:51log identifying documents to be withheld from them referenced
- 0:56drafts of a 13 of May email. To the US Securities and
- 1:01Exchange Commission the SEC, which enforces the law against
- 1:07the market manipulation of Elon Musk, and Twitter.
- 1:10So it also said that there was a slide presentation to the FTC
- 1:15whose principal mission is promoting the antitrust law and
- 1:18consumer protection. The court request was filed on
- 1:22the same day that the court. Granted, a stay of litigation to
- 1:26allow Twitter and Ilan to close the Takeover.
- 1:29Deal. And the SEC is question elon's
- 1:32comments about Twitter and in April, the SEC asked him whether
- 1:37the disclosure of his nine percent.
- 1:38Twitter steak was late in. Why he indicated that he
- 1:42intended to be a passive shareholder Elon indicate he was
- 1:46an active investor at that point and in June the SEC a steal on,
- 1:51in the letter, whether he should have amended his public filing
- 1:54to reflect his intention to spend, or abandon the deal.
- 1:57In attorney for Ilan told Reuters.
- 2:00Twitter's Court filing was a misdirection and it is Twitter's
- 2:03Executives that are under federal investigation, Twitter
- 2:08declined, to comment on that statement.
- 2:11So this filing comes as The months-long Saga of Ilan and
- 2:15Twitter keeps going forward until the end of the year.
- 2:19Now, Ilan wants to buy Twitter and we all know that he said it
- 2:22publicly numerous times, but he is wary of the Bots that are
- 2:26part of Twitter. There was also a recent
- 2:29investigation. Negation by a former FBI agent
- 2:33that said that there's about 80 percent of bots on Twitter that
- 2:37aren't people. So Elon is also skeptical about
- 2:41the but program. What can he do about this?
- 2:44Elon is also said that this is the first step to make x.com
- 2:48into a thing right now. If you go to x.com, it's just
- 2:51just, as x on it, there's nothing there.
- 2:53There's no, there's no app there.
- 2:56There's nothing there for you to use so elon's Idea for the
- 3:01future of this is to turn Twitter into a multi-faceted
- 3:07platform. Whether it's the the same
- 3:10Twitter that we see now, with the newsfeed, we all understand
- 3:13that, we all know about the newsfeed on Twitter.
- 3:15We see it. We use it every day, almost and
- 3:18also he wants to add some sort of payment system to it.
- 3:22So think about stripe, something like stripe where you can send
- 3:26money back and forth something like Apple pay, where you can
- 3:29pay. Your friends, a couple bucks for
- 3:31dinner, something like venmo all that combined with Twitter, so
- 3:35it could be a messaging app. Something you can use to send it
- 3:39and receive money, but also something where you can have
- 3:44encrypted chance with people. Something that you could make
- 3:49phone calls with audio calls, video calls with Twitter.
- 3:53I think Ilan has a bigger strategy here, shopping, things
- 3:56like that things that will make Twitter into a multi-faceted
- 4:00platform. So think about what is already
- 4:04out there. Facebook already does this,
- 4:07right? They have multiple ways to make
- 4:09money advertisements. They have you know, there's
- 4:14things like WhatsApp out there. There's you know, the multiple
- 4:18messaging programs through Facebook.
- 4:20You have the news feed of course, from your friends family
- 4:23and also from, you know, Enterprise news agencies.
- 4:28So Facebook already kind of has all this stuff covered.
- 4:32What could Twitter bring to the deal, you know.
- 4:34What could the new x.com? Bring the deal.
- 4:37That's something like the Facebook platform doesn't
- 4:40already do and I'm kind of skeptical, you know, in a way
- 4:44and I don't know if the show is brought to you by backblaze, I
- 4:48use back place to back up my podcast.
- 4:50My video files, all of my writing stuff at all, my photos,
- 4:54and you get unlimited computer backup, for Macs and PCs for
- 4:57just $7 a month. You can backup your own
- 4:59documents photos videos, drawings projects, all of your
- 5:03data and access Backed up data from anywhere in the world using
- 5:07the web app and you can access the files on your mobile to iOS
- 5:11Android apps all covered. And this is a cool part.
- 5:13This is my favorite part. You can restore it by mail, a
- 5:15hard drive will come to your house with all your data shipped
- 5:19to your door. It could come to your business
- 5:20to and you can restore return refund program so you can buy a
- 5:24hard drive restore, send the hard drive back within 30 days
- 5:28and get a full refund. So basically they ship you this
- 5:31hard drive and then you ship it back and you don't ever pay for
- 5:34it. Which Is the perfect program for
- 5:36somebody who has huge files and you don't want to waste days and
- 5:39days, downloading terabytes and teraflops of data.
- 5:42And if you're worried about accidentally, deleting your
- 5:44files to bucks extra month, you can increase your retention
- 5:47history to one year, and I use it for all of my video.
- 5:51Files comes in super handy. So seven dollars plus two
- 5:54dollars nine dollars a month and you get everything backed up.
- 5:57He's a mind for up to a year. And if you use the URL back,

- 6:38a free 15 day trial no credit card required go there sign up I
- 6:44you with it it's really powerful in is really easy to use so go
- 6:47to back place.com slash Ilan back plays.com Ilan
- 6:53backblaze.com heel on that's the right way to think about this.
- 6:59But there's already platforms out there, the do all this your
- 7:01phone. If you have a nice home your
- 7:03iPhone does a lot. Stuff.
- 7:05Anyway, with I message you can send money back and forth, you
- 7:10have encrypted data if you want it you send messages back and
- 7:14forth. It's not a public message my do
- 7:17but it's personal peer-to-peer person-to-person messaging so
- 7:22doesn't need to be a social platform for everything Ilan,
- 7:25really think. So and could he move forward
- 7:28with the acquisition of Twitter and completely gut what's there
- 7:32now and turn it into something? That's more of a broad spectrum
- 7:38of ways that people could use the internet of a huge tool in
- 7:42the future. I'm not sure what's going to
- 7:46happen with this Elon is under investigation.
- 7:49Twitter, thanks, Ilan. Should have bought this thing a
- 7:52long time ago and there's a lot of money to be made with Twitter
- 7:57in the future if Elon goes through with this.
- 7:59And if everything works out, we'll billions of dollars to be
- 8:02made in the future. Stripe payment processor,
- 8:07billions of dollars. They make tons of money all the
- 8:10time and Ilan sees that as a way to make billions and billions of
- 8:15dollars in the future, forty four billion dollars is what he
- 8:18wants to pay for this thing. Could he make forty four billion
- 8:21dollars in the first year? Second year third year, could
- 8:24this be a 10-year plan for him? Is this going to be funding the
- 8:27other programs that SpaceX and Tesla and boring company?
- 8:31Etc? That Elon has under his wing?
- 8:34Well they're all different entities and he is the richest
- 8:38person in the world right now. On paper, they're arguably.
- 8:42There are other people that don't have the money on paper,
- 8:46you know, in other countries that have way more.
- 8:49More money than him. But Ilana right now, forty four
- 8:52billion dollars, he has some other people involved with them
- 8:55and it's not all of his money. So, these stakeholders to take
- 9:01this private, could possibly, you know, see his vision for the
- 9:06future. See his vision for the platform
- 9:08and see his vision for his new platform, x.com, as a way to,
- 9:13you know, make their one or two billion dollars back to the
- 9:16invest, maybe they can make it back to the few years.
- 9:19Maybe this is Long-term play where they try to take out
- 9:22Facebook where they try to take out the other social networks
- 9:25out there and they also try to bring messaging into one place.
- 9:31What, how great would it be if you had one app that did
- 9:33everything? He does tab back and forth
- 9:36between your social network, your banking purchasing Goods,
- 9:41everything. All in one place I think that
- 9:44would be pretty cool. I don't know if that's feasible
- 9:47because if you think about the the Stranglehold that Amazon has
- 9:53the marketplace for shipping goods and Commerce in general
- 9:58now and Walmart as well. So alone would be taking out
- 10:02those two juggernauts. If he decides to get into the
- 10:05shopping realm of things or you could just piggyback on them,
- 10:08you know, could it could he use something that's already
- 10:11available to everybody Amazon or something like walmart.com or
- 10:15local shopping? Local grocery store is things
- 10:17like that. Could he get grocery delivery to
- 10:21you? I mean, it's possible in this
- 10:22app who knows, who knows, what his plans are for the future,
- 10:25but whatever it is, he wants to make money from it and his
- 10:28ultimate goal is to take this private and to kind of
- 10:33unregulated the speech out. Free free free speech.
- 10:38So we'll see you in the future. I think it's going to be a
- 10:4110-year play. I don't think it's going to be
- 10:43happening any time in the next few years, where we'll see the
- 10:46full potential of this but no tech company becomes mature
- 10:51without their headaches in the beginning.
- 10:53Every tech company has their their weird stage.
- 10:57You know, they're their teenage years where they're kind of
- 11:00weird and they go through that emo phase and they dye their
- 11:02hair and they do all that fun stuff.
- 11:05Tough. And you know this company is
- 11:08going to have to do the same thing.
- 11:09It's in it in its infancy. Now Twitter is a mature platform
- 11:14but rolling into something like X is going to be a whole other
- 11:19thing. So hey if you like this kind of
- 11:22concept if you like the seal on content, make sure to subscribe
- 11:25on any platform that you're on right now.
