- 1:09Speaker 3: Everything tends to steal pens.
- 1:11Speaker 1: But you did. You almost gave me the Haitian mother. Look.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Melissa does this face when she's about well, it's not
- 1:19Speaker 1: it's not. It's her imitation of her mother, by the way,
- 1:22Speaker 1: who my mom.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I grew up in a household where you got your
- 1:25Speaker 4: ass beat And when she would get mad and she
- 1:29Speaker 4: was about to hit me, if she was sitting, she
- 1:32Speaker 4: would always wait, I'm gonna do it for you.
- 1:36Speaker 2: That's her bending down.
- 1:37Speaker 1: To slowly bending down with this look like.
- 1:39Speaker 2: With the eye contact, about.
- 1:41Speaker 1: To whip a sandal at you. A slipper, it.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Was, it was always a slipper. They were called batta
- 1:48Speaker 4: and uh. They were like leather at the bottom and
- 1:52Speaker 4: the top and the and the the song part of
- 1:55Speaker 4: it was they came in like multiple colors, and the
- 1:57Speaker 4: ones that my mom used to beat my ass with
- 1:58Speaker 4: were orange.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Whatever I say something crazy, Melissa gives me the look
- 2:03Speaker 1: you're just about to beat me with.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The slipper grass.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I know that look. I know I'm in trouble. Let's
- 2:10Speaker 1: get into a sidebar. Let's talk about what's going on.
- 2:13Speaker 1: What's happening this week in our life?
- 2:15Speaker 2: So many things.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah, because I said something earlier, because something's going on
- 2:18Speaker 1: in the lighting in this studio, and I just have
- 2:20Speaker 1: to speak to it because every time we come to
- 2:22Speaker 1: the studio they have a different lighting setup. And it's
- 2:25Speaker 1: almost as if I looked hideous the week before, is
- 2:29Speaker 1: how I perceive it. I'm like, oh wow, it was
- 2:33Speaker 1: so bad last week that we actually we flew in
- 2:36Speaker 1: a specialist from Canada who created this new light fixture.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I kind of finally know how to light.
- 2:43Speaker 4: You are so self absorbed, so it's all about you
- 2:48Speaker 4: at all times.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And you know what the other thing is? Do you think?
- 2:53Speaker 4: Do you imagine? Because I say this to Andre all
- 2:55Speaker 4: the time. When I tell him to wear something something,
- 2:57Speaker 4: He's like, no, I'll look dumb. In what world does
- 3:01Speaker 4: it make sense for me to tell are to wear
- 3:04Speaker 4: something that he's gonna look stupid?
- 3:06Speaker 2: At ye?
- 3:07Speaker 4: In what world does it make sense that I let
- 3:10Speaker 4: you go out look.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Like a nut job? That's true, that's true?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Right? Would you let me look? And now I feel like,
- 3:15Speaker 2: would you let me look crazy?
- 3:16Speaker 4: No?
- 3:17Speaker 1: What? Never?
- 3:19Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Okay?
- 3:21Speaker 6: Chance?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Oh sorry, I tell you.
- 3:29Speaker 2: We have to reset.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I am paranoid, but not sometimes the paranoid
- 3:34Speaker 1: is right like a broken clock is right twice a day.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I'm afraid for you.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna get Bronzer on the mic. We're okay.
- 3:46Speaker 2: So if you notice the lighting is different because started
- 3:54Speaker 2: throwing things around, I threw and now a lighting. But again,
- 4:01Speaker 2: can you imagine.
- 4:02Speaker 1: You are one of the few friends who's not like,
- 4:03Speaker 1: oh my god, I do look great and I look hideous.
- 4:06Speaker 1: You will be like take that off right now, yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 1: or you'll be like, we got a you've got something
- 4:11Speaker 1: on your face? What's that in your teeth? Be that friend,
- 4:17Speaker 1: Be that friend for someone, and at least have one
- 4:19Speaker 1: person in your life who can do no.
- 4:20Speaker 4: I mean honestly, like, especially we do stuff together, and
- 4:24Speaker 4: I wouldn't.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I don't even think I'd be able to look.
- 4:27Speaker 4: At you and not mention the thing that's not right.
- 4:29Speaker 4: But like, that's a big black schmutz on your ear.
- 4:32Speaker 1: You don't have a poker face. Every thought is on.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Don't ever go to Vegas. No, you'll lose because every
- 4:39Speaker 1: emotion is right there on your face.
- 4:41Speaker 4: I mean, I have been known to hold it back,
- 4:43Speaker 4: but but like, why should I bother with you?
- 4:45Speaker 1: When someone said, like telling you something insane? You are
- 4:48Speaker 1: really good? It just kind of like, yeah, tell me
- 4:51Speaker 1: a little bit more.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Why don't you Wow, yeah, that's crazy.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Then I'll get a text, my text from a
- 4:58Speaker 1: listone something that this is what you say, yo, Yeah
- 5:01Speaker 1: that is why. Oh and that's the text I got. Yes,
- 5:05Speaker 1: it's never like hey, Michael, here's something that's going on.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I know there's some function is happening when I get
- 5:12Speaker 1: YO and I'm like, drop everything here. We got the
- 5:15Speaker 1: tea yeah.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah is piping and it's usually so the YO.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Is like, Yo, I need to brace myself.
- 5:25Speaker 4: So and so has said something that is so Do
- 5:28Speaker 4: you remember there was a moment So I don't know
- 5:32Speaker 4: if people people must know this, right.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Michael and I used to work together.
- 5:36Speaker 4: And I remember we were reading something that somebody who
- 5:41Speaker 4: is a professional writer had Do you remember this had
- 5:45Speaker 4: sent us? And I looked at it and I started throwing.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Things across the room.
- 5:51Speaker 4: I was livid, like I cannot believe that this person
- 5:55Speaker 4: makes this amount of money and.
- 5:58Speaker 2: This is that's what we've got.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 6:01Speaker 4: I was so and Michael had to like talk me down.
- 6:04Speaker 4: He was like, Melissa, it's fine, we'll fix it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: And I'm like, I don't want to have to fix it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: That's her goddamn job.
- 6:11Speaker 1: So mad you get so, yeah, there the there's other
- 6:15Speaker 1: things you've been totally incensed by recently.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Recently the world.
- 6:20Speaker 1: It's the world, but you, yeah, there are sometimes things
- 6:24Speaker 1: and it's never with you. I've noticed this about you.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It's not the roast it is it's the Doctor Phil show.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It is psychologically, I notice what happens with you.
- 6:38Speaker 2: What is it?
- 6:39Speaker 1: It's never the horrific thing and it's and it's it's
- 6:43Speaker 1: not it's not like headlines. It's always like the straw
- 6:47Speaker 1: that broke the camel's back, and you fixate on the
- 6:51Speaker 1: one little stupid thing and you get so mad about that.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And I know that whenever you're upset about that, it's
- 6:59Speaker 1: because of the year of bullshit leading up to that,
- 7:03Speaker 1: where you weren't complaining, where you weren't.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Saying anything, or I was just choking it back.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And then someone coughs and doesn't cover their mouth and
- 7:12Speaker 1: you get out of glock and the ar and it
- 7:16Speaker 1: really is it is, yeah, murder on the dance floor.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Do you think that?
- 7:20Speaker 1: And then she keeps their car? Do I think?
- 7:23Speaker 2: What do you think that? That is a Taurus trait?
- 7:26Speaker 2: I think that it is.
- 7:27Speaker 1: You told me once you were like I was mad
- 7:29Speaker 1: at my dad for something. And this is one hundred
- 7:31Speaker 1: years ago.
- 7:32Speaker 2: You were mad at your daughter. I was mad.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I was not at my dad, and you were like, Michael,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you have to say something because you and I are
- 7:40Speaker 1: the same. We're both tauruses.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Coming up on tours season.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Buckalop.
- 7:44Speaker 2: My birthdays are two days apart.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yeah. And you said you need to say something to
- 7:49Speaker 1: your dad otherwise you'll be at the dinner table and
- 7:54Speaker 1: you'll just explode.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You'll do that what's her name from Housewives which he.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Throws the table, Yeah?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Or Cardi B Jude Ice or Cardi B.
- 8:07Speaker 4: What is.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah? And you're right, you do just kind of have
- 8:11Speaker 1: to say something.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You do.
- 8:13Speaker 1: But it is a tourist trait where we hold it in.
- 8:15Speaker 1: I do hold it in, and we wait and wait
- 8:17Speaker 1: and wait, and then it's that one time my husband
- 8:21Speaker 1: loads the dishwasher wrong and he puts the leg crusan Melissa, No, yes, no, yeah, no,
- 8:29Speaker 1: And he's being brought up on war crimes at the
- 8:31Speaker 1: Hague like it's actually so bad.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Okay, So now I'm wondering, what did you not teach.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Him, Melissa. This is the state of education in America.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Cannot be left at my feet. You can't lay that
- 8:43Speaker 1: at my feet.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I'm not going to lay all of.
- 8:45Speaker 4: It at your feet, but I am going to lay
- 8:46Speaker 4: your husband putting in the Luquist in the dishwasher at
- 8:50Speaker 4: your feet.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And everyone learns in different ways, right. We have visual learners,
- 8:53Speaker 1: we have people who need to be beaten.
- 8:55Speaker 2: What'sd why are you doing that?
- 8:57Speaker 1: I bring it up every time and he's like, it
- 8:59Speaker 1: takes two seconds to wash this. Yeah, it's the size
- 9:02Speaker 1: of a buick for sure. To put that in the dishwasher.
- 9:06Speaker 2: You can't put anything else in there.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It's a it's a one night only engagement. We've got
- 9:10Speaker 1: just the La Cruse cycle going now, and it's not
- 9:13Speaker 1: going to clean it. We like burned macaroni in that
- 9:16Speaker 1: it's not coming out. That is that is an elbow
- 9:20Speaker 1: grease situation. The dawn that saves the ducklings from the
- 9:25Speaker 1: oil spills isn't even going to be able to know.
- 9:27Speaker 2: You need like a barman's keeper or whatever that one is.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the barman's keeper. We need that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I feel like there's a fabulous so equivalent.
- 9:37Speaker 2: No, okay, not for that, Okay.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I had to tell Andre many times that he can't
- 9:42Speaker 4: put cast iron in the dishwasher.
- 9:46Speaker 1: But that is actually wicked.
- 9:47Speaker 2: He was, and he was just like why not.
- 9:49Speaker 1: He's like, it's nice. It takes the blackout, it comes
- 9:51Speaker 1: out light brown.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And it's a rust, babe, that's rust. He doesn't do
- 9:56Speaker 2: it anymore.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He's learned, but it took a while. Yeah. The thing
- 10:01Speaker 1: is is that I think what's happening in our house
- 10:03Speaker 1: is we alternate nights of dishes. So if you walk
- 10:07Speaker 1: the dog, you fold the laundry and sort of get
- 10:09Speaker 1: the bedroom ready. If you do the dishes, you tidy
- 10:12Speaker 1: up the living room and hang up the coats.
- 10:14Speaker 2: So wait, why don't you hanging up your own coats
- 10:16Speaker 2: every night? You sho're not gonna answer me. No, I'm
- 10:18Speaker 2: not okay, So you guys come and just throw the
- 10:20Speaker 2: coats on the floor.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And you know what, I don't owe you any answers.
- 10:23Speaker 4: I disagree. I'm asking you a question. You should provide
- 10:28Speaker 4: me with the answer.
- 10:29Speaker 1: If during the course of a day, there's like the
- 10:31Speaker 1: clothing chair. You don't have a clothing chair. It's the
- 10:33Speaker 1: chair you throw all your clothes and bag and I have.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Like a basket. But yes, it's the same, thank you.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Thank you. We're not throwing them, I mean sometimes on
- 10:41Speaker 1: the floor, but not it's like the bench by the door.
- 10:44Speaker 2: We throw I mean Andre, every every day, every day.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I cut to you and me in divorce court, like
- 10:52Speaker 1: the two of us are not gonna that's not We're
- 10:54Speaker 1: not gonna make it.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Not even at this point, is like I just sort
- 10:57Speaker 4: of like, pick it up now, but Andre to wear socks,
- 11:00Speaker 4: t shirt on the floor in a pile.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Every tears it off, just what you know what. And
- 11:07Speaker 1: some days it do be like that. Every day I
- 11:12Speaker 1: got to rip your close off. It's if it's August,
- 11:16Speaker 1: it's every day off of me.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It's every damn yeah, yeah, yeah, no, it's every day.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I love that though, that is like, I think that's great,
- 11:23Speaker 1: do you Yeah. I think it's so liberating, it's so freeing.
- 11:27Speaker 1: It's very like Upstate Commune of him. I love that.
- 11:30Speaker 1: It is very much like Flower Crown energy.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Maybe, but I just think, you know, he thinks there's
- 11:36Speaker 4: a magic fairy who comes in to pick up That's oh,
- 11:38Speaker 4: this is what I want to tell you. Sorry, speaking
- 11:40Speaker 4: of picking up things, I'm sorry. It's all gonna make
- 11:43Speaker 4: so much sense. So I finally caved and we have
- 11:48Speaker 4: a cleaning person.
- 11:49Speaker 5: You do.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I love it support an immigrant community.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Like I love that, I do you know what's an immigrant?
- 11:54Speaker 1: Well I'm that's actually great. Thank you for clocking my privilege,
- 11:57Speaker 1: not assuming we had a white cleaning lady growing up.
- 12:00Speaker 1: But wait no, she was Polish, so she was an immigrant.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So yeah, okay, so tell me not an immigrant she is? Okay, yeah,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you fucking fuck you.
- 12:10Speaker 3: She is.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Just like I just wanted to make a white man
- 12:12Speaker 1: uncomfortable for.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Us, because you know what to be roasty, you all
- 12:15Speaker 2: need to be roasted every now.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Want to catch me with the accountability, I admitted it, But.
- 12:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so nice to like just have a clean
- 12:22Speaker 4: place and everything is where it's supposed to be.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So that's great.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And also, you know, a friend of mine was saying,
- 12:27Speaker 4: and you're also hiring somebody, you're helping putting money into
- 12:30Speaker 4: the economy.
- 12:30Speaker 2: All that is really true.
- 12:32Speaker 4: There is a part of me, though, that feels guilty
- 12:35Speaker 4: about it, Like it's just the two of us and
- 12:38Speaker 4: Arthur Weasley. There is no reason why the two of
- 12:43Speaker 4: us together cannot clean our own place.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So the guilt isn't about having someone clean up after you.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It's the guilt is over, like you feel like you failed.
- 12:51Speaker 2: No, no, no, the guilt is.
- 12:52Speaker 4: The guilt is why do I need someone to clean
- 12:55Speaker 4: my home? I am capable of cleaning my home.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I feel like I'm not going to do it very well.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Like it's the apartment right now is as clean as
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's going to get with my efforts, and it's not
- 13:06Speaker 1: very clean.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Is it not clean or is it messy?
- 13:10Speaker 1: It's not clean? Oh, Like I'm not like taking a
- 13:12Speaker 1: Saturday to like scrub everything and mop and sweep, like
- 13:16Speaker 1: I'm not doing that. Okay, So I think that's where
- 13:18Speaker 1: that is for me, Okay, but for you, you're feeling
- 13:21Speaker 1: like I should be doing this.
- 13:22Speaker 4: You're feeling like I should be doing this. There are
- 13:25Speaker 4: already things that I don't do, Like I don't really
- 13:28Speaker 4: do laundry. We send our laundry out and I don't
- 13:30Speaker 4: even take it to a place. They come to my
- 13:32Speaker 4: house and they pick it up in a drop it back.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I have a feeling. Do you feel a way about
- 13:35Speaker 1: that at all?
- 13:36Speaker 2: Great about that?
- 13:36Speaker 1: Yeah? We had? Okay, so in our old apartment, every
- 13:40Speaker 1: time the cleaner would come and it was like once
- 13:43Speaker 1: a month or every other month. The outlet in our
- 13:46Speaker 1: bedroom was like always unplugged.
- 13:48Speaker 2: What were they plugging in?
- 13:49Speaker 1: And Brad and I were like, is she like filming
- 13:52Speaker 1: in the bedroom or something? It was like, oh, I
- 13:55Speaker 1: was like is there Like I don't know. I don't
- 13:58Speaker 1: really know her, Like I don't She's a beautiful young woman,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and I'm like, is she like filming? Is she like
- 14:05Speaker 1: a cam girl? Like? What is happening in the bedroom?
- 14:07Speaker 1: And so I called Shermaine who knows everything. She's just
- 14:10Speaker 1: like I just have one of these friends. She's like,
- 14:12Speaker 1: fucking who knows that wikipedia, She's just she's just good.
- 14:16Speaker 1: She was like, you're such a stupid idiot. She's like
- 14:19Speaker 1: she's gotta plug in the vacuum. It's like, oh yeah,
- 14:26Speaker 1: that does make much more sense than she's moonlighting as
- 14:29Speaker 1: a cam girl in my bed. Like she's just like
- 14:34Speaker 1: you know what, slanging and banging while in my bedroom
- 14:37Speaker 1: then cleaning it up.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Some vacuum.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It was always in the bedroom. And then I was like, oh, right,
- 14:44Speaker 1: there is I was like, what is she doing? Ouldry, Yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 1: we just had boomer banks that last week. But then
- 14:52Speaker 1: I was like, you're right, there is only one outlet
- 14:54Speaker 1: in the bedroom and she probably just wasn't plugging the
- 14:57Speaker 1: lamp back in.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so funny.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Let's get into your algorithm is showing what's going on.
- 15:06Speaker 1: What is it in your feed today?
- 15:08Speaker 2: What's in your feet? We've been talking about my feet
- 15:10Speaker 2: a lot.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I've been talking about my feed. Have you seen punch
- 15:13Speaker 1: the monkey at all? Has this like hit your feet
- 15:15Speaker 1: at all? You were obsessed with the baby hippo.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I love hippos so much.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Melissa was obsessed with what was the name of.
- 15:22Speaker 2: It, Fiona? Her name was Fiona.
- 15:26Speaker 1: But you didn't see Melissa's face. If you're listening to this,
- 15:29Speaker 1: I've never seen like such empathy and like empathy, heartfelt
- 15:35Speaker 1: warmth come on an expression from you.
- 15:38Speaker 2: It's it's not true.
- 15:39Speaker 1: It's not that it's uncommon, it's just it really shone through.
- 15:43Speaker 1: When you said Fiona, you went Fiona the shoe gaisy
- 15:50Speaker 1: koy moment.
- 15:52Speaker 2: So just generally I like hippos.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I think she she's like, okay, so more about Fiona, yes, no,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but no, no no.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I just generally I like hippos. I think they're cute.
- 16:04Speaker 2: I am well aware. I am well aware.
- 16:06Speaker 4: That they're not very nice and that they kill you
- 16:08Speaker 4: just because they can. But I still and they know
- 16:11Speaker 4: the best.
- 16:11Speaker 1: What same girl right back at you.
- 16:14Speaker 2: You're talking to.
- 16:15Speaker 1: The woman who kicked him man on the subway, and
- 16:17Speaker 1: you're tongue.
- 16:17Speaker 2: He takes me first, and he had it coming. Let
- 16:20Speaker 2: the record reflect.
- 16:21Speaker 1: He knows what he did.
- 16:22Speaker 4: He know, he knows what he did. But yeah, so
- 16:26Speaker 4: I just happened to light them. And then there was
- 16:28Speaker 4: like this new one that was born, and she was
- 16:30Speaker 4: so cute, so cute and chubby. Her little ears would
- 16:34Speaker 4: wiggle and.
- 16:35Speaker 1: They're slimy little skin. It was very cute. It was
- 16:38Speaker 1: very cute. I even think the big hippos are cute.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Oh, I think they're so cute. They're just really nasty.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Did you know that Colombia, sorry, Pablo Escobar.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Had like a whole zoo, had a hole ze, yes,
- 16:48Speaker 1: and they didn't know what to do with it.
- 16:49Speaker 4: He imported hippos and then when she got back a Pablo,
- 16:54Speaker 4: the hippos got loose in the wild in the jungles
- 16:57Speaker 4: of Colombia where they are breeding like rabbit. They're they're
- 17:02Speaker 4: changing the infrastructure, the ecosystem in Colombia. The local people
- 17:07Speaker 4: now have done this thing where they're making money off
- 17:10Speaker 4: of this. They have tours Escobar's hippos. The hippos are
- 17:15Speaker 4: killing people left and right. It's bananas.
- 17:18Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I'm kind of all about it though.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I would, I would, I would.
- 17:22Speaker 4: That sounds kind of I know, but they're not indigenous
- 17:24Speaker 4: to Colombia, so it's actually really.
- 17:27Speaker 1: It's not like one of these like oh more.
- 17:31Speaker 4: And apparently I think I read I could be wrong,
- 17:34Speaker 4: but like their scat is really toxic for the area.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Oh no, I don't know, but whatever, that's what I read.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And it makes me worry because it's like there's really
- 17:44Speaker 1: only one solution to that, you know what I mean.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And I don't think it's like where we're air airlifting
- 17:49Speaker 1: hippos out and like placing them in zoos. I don't
- 17:53Speaker 1: think that's how.
- 17:54Speaker 4: I don't think that's And so there was this movement
- 17:59Speaker 4: to get rid of them. But the local the people
- 18:02Speaker 4: of the area who have now started to make money
- 18:06Speaker 4: off of this, they like, please do not do this.
- 18:09Speaker 4: You will send us directly back into poverty. Really fascinating
- 18:12Speaker 4: that interestingnation, I know, but did you imagine, like, oh,
- 18:16Speaker 4: I think I'm just going to get a zoo and
- 18:17Speaker 4: I'm going to get a I'm going to know his arket.
- 18:19Speaker 1: So Punch the Monkey has gone viral, okay, and I
- 18:24Speaker 1: already ordered a shirt. It's okay. It's going to get
- 18:26Speaker 1: here in four to six weeks. It's being hand embroidered.
- 18:28Speaker 1: We talked about it already.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Let me see what this say is.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Go ahead, look up the monkey. I'll look him up.
- 18:33Speaker 1: So he's very cute and he is being bullied by
- 18:38Speaker 1: all the other monkeys at this suit. And I believe
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's tokyo, right c J.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. Let me just say this. When you Google,
- 18:45Speaker 2: I was like, what is this?
- 18:46Speaker 4: When you Google Punch the Monkey and it comes up,
- 18:49Speaker 4: Google sends hearts with a monkey in it?
- 18:53Speaker 2: Did you know?
- 18:53Speaker 1: No, there's a lot of support. I don't think so.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I don't know Google could do that.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Neither did I, but it just did it. Wow, that's weird.
- 19:03Speaker 4: You know what though, I gotta tell you my cousin
- 19:05Speaker 4: Erica loves monkeys, and and we talk about this all
- 19:10Speaker 4: the time about how I don't like monkeys.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I don't like monkeys. I'm not like they're a monkey.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Girly like too much like people. I don't like.
- 19:18Speaker 1: That, and like once they turn around, they've got like
- 19:20Speaker 1: gross butts. They've got like like a.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Bad boon, but the bad boone butt, I think. But
- 19:26Speaker 4: I think the bad boon butt is especially when they're
- 19:28Speaker 4: in heat.
- 19:29Speaker 2: I think what I think? I think I think got
- 19:31Speaker 2: the good thing.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Even David Attenborough could narrate that into like a fun
- 19:35Speaker 1: cute moment.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I think I think that's what it is, But I'm
- 19:38Speaker 2: not sure.
- 19:38Speaker 1: The bad boon when bum, he would say bum right
- 19:45Speaker 1: on his bum. So, so Punch is getting bullied by
- 19:49Speaker 1: the other monkeys.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Apparently two days ago he was making friends and fitting
- 19:52Speaker 2: then Okay, that.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Is really that's actually reassuring because it has kept my
- 19:55Speaker 1: household up at night. Brad is deeply invested the.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Monkey finally by his peers after primate was abandoned by
- 20:02Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 20:02Speaker 1: What the way with a live coverage, it's a live feed.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Oh wait, wait, we've got Chris John amenpor being lowered
- 20:08Speaker 1: into the monkey tank.
- 20:09Speaker 4: These are the questions that people ask in Google. Is
- 20:12Speaker 4: punched the monkey? Okay, now we'll punch the monkey? Be okay,
- 20:16Speaker 4: what's going on with punch the monkey? What is punch
- 20:19Speaker 4: the monkey? I'm here to answer all your questions.
- 20:23Speaker 1: He does. I'm sure he does. And so he was
- 20:26Speaker 1: being bullied finally being accepted. It sounds like, but before
- 20:30Speaker 1: then he had a stuffed animal. I see it that
- 20:33Speaker 1: he was self soothing with around the world. Yeah, and
- 20:39Speaker 1: the zoo keepers were sort of and the zoo keepers
- 20:41Speaker 1: would come in to feed the monkeys and he would
- 20:43Speaker 1: jump on the zoo keeper's shoulders to kind of like.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Because it didn't have to cuddle.
- 20:48Speaker 1: He didn't have any friends. Yeah, so that's been hitting
- 20:52Speaker 1: my feed.
- 20:52Speaker 2: It's very sad. Now I'm looking at it. God, damn it.
- 20:56Speaker 1: See now you're really invested.
- 20:58Speaker 4: No, but it's sad Like looking at him sort of
- 21:00Speaker 4: like cuddling with his plushy is weird.
- 21:03Speaker 2: It makes me feel sad.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I saw one tweet that was like, I know that
- 21:07Speaker 1: plushy smells ripe. Discuss I know that thing smells nasty.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Anyway, go ahead.
- 21:16Speaker 1: My niece has been asking me to get her something
- 21:19Speaker 1: this like viral squishy squishy toy. It's it's like a
- 21:24Speaker 1: stress ball, but it's I forget what it is.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Big.
- 21:27Speaker 1: It's called.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Michael Rude.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Oh my god, I bet it's the toy store. I'm
- 21:33Speaker 1: trying to get my niece this freaking stress Wait, there's
- 21:38Speaker 1: a line, it's like a beanie baby line to get
- 21:40Speaker 1: these stress balls for kids. They're called like something dough
- 21:44Speaker 1: d o h, me dough and e E d o h.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And the kids are going wild for them. And so
- 21:53Speaker 1: my niece texted me she wanted one. So I've got
- 21:55Speaker 1: a local toy store in my neighborhood that I was
- 21:58Speaker 1: going to anyway to buy a gift for someone. So
- 21:59Speaker 1: it's like, oh, hey, do you have the needles? The
- 22:02Speaker 1: woman rolled her eyes in my face is she scoff scoffed,
- 22:07Speaker 1: like I had just asked her for the hope diamond.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I was like, what, Like, I was just googled. I
- 22:13Speaker 1: didn't know that they were sold for your simple bit stupid.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And then she spit on me. She said get out,
- 22:22Speaker 1: you had it coming and I was like sorry, I
- 22:24Speaker 1: didn't realize, and she was like, you don't understand. The
- 22:26Speaker 1: phone's been ringing off the hook all day asking for
- 22:29Speaker 1: the need do She's like, it's only five dollars. It's
- 22:31Speaker 1: basically a stress ball. And I was like, okay, well
- 22:34Speaker 1: can I get one? And she was like, look, you
- 22:38Speaker 1: clearly have no idea what's going on in the world, right,
- 22:41Speaker 1: You're clearly so focused on punch the monkey. You don't
- 22:44Speaker 1: know anything about what's happening in my world of children's toys, sir.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And she said, why don't you come back tomorrow with
- 22:51Speaker 1: cash four one pm? She said, because the kids at
- 22:56Speaker 1: the local public school get out for lunch around twelve
- 22:59Speaker 1: forty five one o'clock. So she said, get here before
- 23:02Speaker 1: them with cash, because there's going to be a line
- 23:05Speaker 1: out out the door around twelve forty.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Five, so you should go there before that.
- 23:09Speaker 1: She said, you need to come here before then with cash. Yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 1: because the FedEx guy arrives between eleven and three, so
- 23:15Speaker 1: you can come back around eleven and try and see it.
- 23:18Speaker 2: And she wasn't, Well, it's a hold one for you.
- 23:20Speaker 2: So I was like, oh, you know, did you try
- 23:23Speaker 2: and no dice?
- 23:23Speaker 1: No dice?
- 23:24Speaker 2: Wow? And I mean she's got ethics and scruples, scruples.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I rarely hear the words scruples anymore.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Because people don't have them anymore. Michael scoops.
- 23:36Speaker 1: So it's so Shakespeareance, there was so Hamnet.
- 23:39Speaker 4: There was a trashy novel I read that was called Scruples,
- 23:43Speaker 4: And I think there was a.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Mad TV toll stoy No no.
- 23:46Speaker 2: No stop, no no no stop.
- 23:49Speaker 1: How dare you don't hold on? Let's put some respect
- 23:51Speaker 1: on his name.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Told there, So, which size is Maddie want? There's a
- 23:55Speaker 2: there's a big.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing is, I'm going to get whatever
- 23:57Speaker 1: I can get my dirty little hands on, and there's
- 24:00Speaker 1: and then she's going to be like, I don't know
- 24:01Speaker 1: that one. She's like, that wasn't the one I was
- 24:04Speaker 1: looking at. So you know, I'm going to do my
- 24:06Speaker 1: best as the fun uncle, and we're going to see
- 24:08Speaker 1: what happens. Because I did call this morning and the
- 24:10Speaker 1: woman took the phone off the hook at the toy store,
- 24:13Speaker 1: so clearly someone's people are harassing her. She's just like
- 24:17Speaker 1: this bald lawyer keeps showing up and bothering me. So
- 24:20Speaker 1: we're gonna we really are going to see where that goes.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I know there's more important things in the world. Well,
- 24:24Speaker 1: but it's so rare, and it was actually like kind
- 24:27Speaker 1: of fun throwback for me waiting for like a Harry
- 24:30Speaker 1: Potter book when I was younger, or waiting for a
- 24:33Speaker 1: beanie baby drop or do you have Beanie Baby? I
- 24:36Speaker 1: was a beanie baby kid.
- 24:37Speaker 2: How many beaning babies did you have a lot of them?
- 24:39Speaker 1: Not like a lot, but I was like really excited.
- 24:42Speaker 1: It was like, you know, we would get excited about
- 24:44Speaker 1: the shipman coming in, like would the new beanie baby drop.
- 24:47Speaker 1: So it did kind of bring me back to the
- 24:49Speaker 1: choice of my youth before I was a hardened criminal,
- 24:51Speaker 1: before this life of crime.
- 24:52Speaker 2: And you know this before you got jaded.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Yeah, this sort of hard knock life.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Scruples is a best selling nineteen seventy eight novel by
- 25:03Speaker 4: Judith Krantz. It follows the glamorous life of Wilhelmina Billy Winthrop,
- 25:08Speaker 4: the owner of a high end Beverly Hills boutique, exploring
- 25:13Speaker 4: themes of fashion, Hollywood, and romance. And there were two
- 25:18Speaker 4: I think there were like two made for TV movies
- 25:20Speaker 4: about this in nineteen seventy eight. I probably read this
- 25:23Speaker 4: book when I was like ten. I should not have
- 25:26Speaker 4: been reading this book.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Yeah. A lot of petticoats getting lifted up, well bush,
- 25:32Speaker 1: lot of blushing.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, women smelling like lab let's.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Bring back petticoats in the word scruples. I think that's
- 25:39Speaker 1: our take from today. I think if I start using
- 25:42Speaker 1: scruples in court. Actually, I know one judge that would
- 25:45Speaker 1: love for me.
- 25:45Speaker 2: To use words like shoes.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah. He's always commenting on my beard. So I have
- 25:50Speaker 1: appearances before this judge.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Yeah, why is he commenting on your face?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Every time I see him, He's like, oh, you shaved.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Like, oh you shave, Like what a refreshing change.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's just an observations and he's it's never like good
- 26:08Speaker 1: or bad.
- 26:09Speaker 2: It's all observation.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Counselor you have a beard, And I'm like, yes, I
- 26:13Speaker 1: noticed it's on my face. Yeah. So we're very friendly
- 26:17Speaker 1: you and this judge. Yeah, but I did kind of
- 26:19Speaker 1: have to throw down the gauntlet on him a little
- 26:22Speaker 1: bit this week because it was it was today, it
- 26:24Speaker 1: was this morning.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:25Speaker 1: So basically in America, we've talked a little bit about
- 26:27Speaker 1: like bond proceedings and how like people are just like
- 26:30Speaker 1: languishing and bond detention centers, and basically judges are saying, like,
- 26:35Speaker 1: we don't have dhs. Trump administration are like making up
- 26:39Speaker 1: rules where it's like, oh, if you're in this type
- 26:42Speaker 1: of category and if you carry the one and if
- 26:45Speaker 1: you're wearing red on that day, you don't qualify for Bond, right,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and it's just like this weird, like back of the
- 26:52Speaker 1: Cereal box maze that they're kind of creating. But the judges,
- 26:56Speaker 1: a lot of judges are like, oh, they're just kind
- 26:59Speaker 1: of I wouldn't say blindly, but they're agreeing and saying, oh, well,
- 27:03Speaker 1: I don't have jurisdiction to sort of rule on bond anymore.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And so what I've been trying to do is, because
- 27:12Speaker 1: I have scruples, I've been trying to get them on
- 27:15Speaker 1: the judges on the record saying that they don't have jurisdiction.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And then I'm like tucking my hair behind my ear,
- 27:24Speaker 1: tossing my hair just like nice, just like a nice
- 27:28Speaker 1: blonde boy from Long Island beard or no beer. Why
- 27:33Speaker 1: don't you have jurisdiction? I don't get it. And they're like, oh, well,
- 27:36Speaker 1: because like this rule, and I'm like, oh okay. And
- 27:39Speaker 1: then I'm like, so, if you don't have jurisdiction to
- 27:42Speaker 1: rule on Bond, I guess I'll file a rid of habeas.
- 27:45Speaker 1: I guess, like I don't. This is my first day.
- 27:47Speaker 1: I don't know how to do this control out to
- 27:49Speaker 1: lead like I'm not sure what do I do? And
- 27:52Speaker 1: They're like, yeah, like, I guess if you wanted to
- 27:54Speaker 1: file a rite of habeas in state or in federal court,
- 27:57Speaker 1: like you could do that. That is like what some
- 27:59Speaker 1: counselors doing. Meanwhile, I've read the entire practice manual on
- 28:04Speaker 1: how this works. It's written by the acl Use blasts
- 28:07Speaker 1: Ow practice manuals when they's developing case law, and so
- 28:11Speaker 1: I know exactly like what we're supposed to know. And
- 28:13Speaker 1: I'm like, Oh, Judge, for that hearing that I'm going
- 28:16Speaker 1: to have in federal court, could you maybe set an
- 28:19Speaker 1: alternate bond so I could tell that Judge, if it
- 28:22Speaker 1: weren't for your jurisdiction problem, you would assign this bond amount.
- 28:28Speaker 1: But you can't because you're not going to rule because
- 28:30Speaker 1: you don't have jurisdiction. Give me like a plan B,
- 28:33Speaker 1: and does that work? Sometimes it works. So sometimes they're like, oh, yeah, sure,
- 28:37Speaker 1: if we did have jurisdiction, it would be two thousand
- 28:39Speaker 1: dollars okay. And then I go to federal court and
- 28:41Speaker 1: I'm like, it's two thousand dollars. They said it's two thousand.
- 28:44Speaker 1: I got him on the record saying alternate bond is
- 28:47Speaker 1: two grand if he had jurisdiction, So your honor in
- 28:51Speaker 1: federal court rule in our favor that he should be
- 28:55Speaker 1: released and I can get him out for two grand
- 28:58Speaker 1: I already got him to commit to it. So that's
- 29:01Speaker 1: how like the ACLU is advising practicing immigration attorneys to
- 29:05Speaker 1: handle immigration judges who are like I don't have jurisdiction.
- 29:08Speaker 1: So there's a little bit of insider baseball. But it
- 29:11Speaker 1: is like, I'm kind of having fun. I'm kind of
- 29:13Speaker 1: enjoying it.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Well because you like messing with people.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I love just and it's legal strategy. Like
- 29:20Speaker 1: it's not even like being a shady bitch where I'm
- 29:22Speaker 1: like manipulating people like it doing my everyday life. But
- 29:25Speaker 1: then I'm in court and I get to say it's
- 29:28Speaker 1: legal strategy. Oh that's really nice. So it's really fun to,
- 29:34Speaker 1: you know, abide by the rules and a certain legal
- 29:38Speaker 1: strategy in the courtroom and then go back to my
- 29:41Speaker 1: life where it can be a manipulative slut and.
- 29:43Speaker 2: You do that very very well.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, speaking of your algorithm is showing I feel like,
- 29:49Speaker 1: I don't know, Timothy Shalomy getting canceled for the Ballet
- 29:53Speaker 1: Opera that actually they're like mopping up his mess and
- 29:57Speaker 1: someone was saying that it cost him the Oscar.
- 30:00Speaker 4: Well, okay, here's here's the thing. I saw that. But
- 30:03Speaker 4: I also think.
- 30:04Speaker 2: When you say that that cost him the Oscar, I
- 30:06Speaker 2: think it takes away from the person who actually won, right,
- 30:09Speaker 2: Like the idea.
- 30:11Speaker 1: That Timothy Chalame was never on my mind for an Oscar,
- 30:17Speaker 1: especially not for Marty Supreme.
- 30:20Speaker 4: So it's really interesting that you're saying that that has
- 30:22Speaker 4: not hit my algorithm, almost that I don't.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Even know what it's about. I was at an Oscar
- 30:26Speaker 1: viewing party and my friend someone had to explain to
- 30:28Speaker 1: me what it was. It's about ping pong, okay, and
- 30:32Speaker 1: I said, that's all I need to say.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Yes, seriously, that's all.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I said, thank you so much. Where's the where the
- 30:36Speaker 1: where's the crew de tee? I said, please pass the
- 30:39Speaker 1: where's the boy? Thank you? The charter? What does Oprah say?
- 30:43Speaker 1: I love Shark Couterie.
- 30:46Speaker 5: Do you remember that?
- 30:47Speaker 1: She's like I love But yeah, Timothy Challame, I don't
- 30:53Speaker 1: know we're getting It's I just.
- 30:55Speaker 4: I just don't care. I don't do you know what
- 30:57Speaker 4: I'm saying, like in the like not in a way
- 30:59Speaker 4: that I hold something. I just not on my radar.
- 31:02Speaker 1: You don't hope he dies in a fire either. I'm
- 31:06Speaker 1: just like, yeah, it wasn't care. It's given his it's
- 31:09Speaker 1: given flop. It's given flop era, I think. And also
- 31:13Speaker 1: I will say, Dune.
- 31:14Speaker 2: Three, how many Dunes do we need?
- 31:16Speaker 1: The Dune books don't get better as they go on,
- 31:19Speaker 1: Like the first one was fierce great, third one, huh,
- 31:25Speaker 1: Like it does get a little bit more wicked and wild.
- 31:30Speaker 1: So I feel like, I hope whoever the screenwriters are taking.
- 31:36Speaker 2: No they're not.
- 31:37Speaker 1: I hope they're taking down that, putting their their spin
- 31:40Speaker 1: on it.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I doubt, And yeah, giving her a glow up, especially
- 31:43Speaker 2: if it's the same. What I find is that.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Many times, not every time, so calm down, but many times,
- 31:52Speaker 4: when there are like sequels of things, it just becomes
- 31:56Speaker 4: more watered down the more we get into it.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And now it's like, I'll.
- 32:01Speaker 4: Say this, it's what what was it that I watched? Oh,
- 32:04Speaker 4: Masterful Beasts or whatever? Yeah, I went into that full
- 32:09Speaker 4: on Harry Potter person really excited about it.
- 32:13Speaker 2: I watched it. Yeah, yeah, I don't know that I
- 32:17Speaker 2: needed it. And I'll go even further with the play.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Oh the play when I Harry Potter on Broadway.
- 32:27Speaker 4: So when I when I want to go see it,
- 32:29Speaker 4: it was the two day thing. But I didn't do
- 32:32Speaker 4: the two day. I did like the old day.
- 32:35Speaker 2: I will never get that time, then.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Multiple and again.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Remember, well, no, but you know how much I love
- 32:47Speaker 4: those stories, right, So I wanted this to you and
- 32:52Speaker 4: I decided, you know what, I'm going to go by myself.
- 32:55Speaker 4: This is going to be a Melissa Day.
- 32:58Speaker 1: No, that Melissa Day was, Yeah.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I was deeply disappointed.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, so just because something is good, yeah, doesn't
- 33:05Speaker 4: need we.
- 33:06Speaker 1: Need to like the Dune, we have to make the
- 33:08Speaker 1: fifth So the whole like ensemble cast on audiobook.
- 33:12Speaker 4: Now, oh you know what, somebody gifted me the first
- 33:15Speaker 4: one and I listened to it and I did.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Not care for it, like I think. And so Timothy
- 33:22Speaker 1: Shollley to clarify his statements were that ballet and opera
- 33:27Speaker 1: are like dead, are like Irrelevanteah, that was like sort
- 33:30Speaker 1: of what he said. And then he said, oh, I
- 33:32Speaker 1: guess I just lost one percent of my followers or something.
- 33:36Speaker 1: So cavalier and Matthew McConaughey's face.
- 33:40Speaker 2: That's the thing. That's the clip that I saw when
- 33:42Speaker 2: he's looking at him and he's just like.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Oh shit, this guy's really Oh just let him dig
- 33:46Speaker 1: his Yeah, I'm just going to see He's like, I'm
- 33:48Speaker 1: going to be polytrates now, Matthew McConaughey and June four,
- 33:53Speaker 1: because Timothy's contract is about to get going at least well,
- 33:58Speaker 1: because now not only have you a fan did like
- 34:00Speaker 1: a community of people, you offended a community of people
- 34:03Speaker 1: known for being fucking dramatic. So like, good luck to you, sir,
- 34:08Speaker 1: good night, and good luck on Shaw. You didn't. You
- 34:10Speaker 1: didn't offend the quiet librarian. You offended the oper thing.
- 34:15Speaker 7: Yeah, he's known for yelling, belting out the notes and
- 34:19Speaker 7: who's on TikTok your toast man?
- 34:21Speaker 2: I don't know. It just made him seem more irrelevant,
- 34:25Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Like you?
- 34:26Speaker 4: This is already not somebody that I cared about, But
- 34:29Speaker 4: now I'm looking for more reasons to not like you,
- 34:32Speaker 4: because you're dumb.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Things as if you're relevant. You're saying things as if
- 34:36Speaker 1: everyone's like, what what's Timothy's opinion on this? Well, oh
- 34:39Speaker 1: I can't. At a film festival a couple of years ago,
- 34:42Speaker 1: he was like, oh, societal collapses in the air and
- 34:45Speaker 1: I was like, what, what are you talking about?
- 34:47Speaker 2: A scholar?
- 34:48Speaker 1: Are you just anyone? What? Anyway, let's take a break.
- 34:51Speaker 1: We've got a guest coming up. Welcome back to Brief Recess.
- 34:57Speaker 1: This is under Oath. I'm so excited. I'm a huge fan.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I'm very happy to have yo Anna from an extraordinary
- 35:04Speaker 1: modeling career. She's very well known in the modeling industry.
- 35:08Speaker 1: You may know her as the winner of cycle two
- 35:10Speaker 1: of America's Next Top Model. She is right now being
- 35:13Speaker 1: featured in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. It's America's Next Top Model
- 35:17Speaker 1: e documentary that was released at the same time as
- 35:20Speaker 1: the Netflix documentary. So thank you so much for coming, Yoanna.
- 35:23Speaker 1: We're so much.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Thank you, Michael. I'm excited to talk with you and Melissa.
- 35:27Speaker 2: It's nice to meet you, yo Wanna.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Nice.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Thank you for coming. I thought it would just be
- 35:32Speaker 1: really interesting. I mean, this is a legal podcast, but
- 35:34Speaker 1: we cover everything everything, pop culture, news, everything that's going on.
- 35:39Speaker 1: And I'm love being on social media, so we have
- 35:43Speaker 1: so many things that come up on my feed, and
- 35:45Speaker 1: you were definitely one of them. I mean, like the
- 35:47Speaker 1: things that are going on right now as there is
- 35:49Speaker 1: this like reckoning moment in America for the history of
- 35:56Speaker 1: America's Next Top Model and really reality television in the
- 35:58Speaker 1: two thousands, right in thers. So I thought it would
- 36:02Speaker 1: be so cool to have you and welcome you to
- 36:04Speaker 1: the show, and we really just want to like talk
- 36:07Speaker 1: to you and get to know you and hear about
- 36:09Speaker 1: your experiences. I want to ask, I think it would
- 36:12Speaker 1: be best if we start before you were on Archan Sextus, sure,
- 36:16Speaker 1: because you had a long, incredible modeling career and it
- 36:20Speaker 1: wasn't like it began with Tyra Banks.
- 36:22Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, that's true. I think there's a little bit
- 36:25Speaker 3: of a misconception that I identified all of my modeling career
- 36:29Speaker 3: from being on the show. But no, I actually I
- 36:32Speaker 3: had lost a significant amount of weight because I did
- 36:34Speaker 3: want to break into modeling. I was at University of
- 36:37Speaker 3: studying International Relations and I had a chance to kind
- 36:42Speaker 3: of test do testing in Miami with a few agencies,
- 36:46Speaker 3: and I got discovered by Ford Models and they had
- 36:48Speaker 3: given me, Yeah, they'd given me a contract, but prior
- 36:52Speaker 3: to that, during the week that I got the contract,
- 36:55Speaker 3: I got the call to audition for the show. So
- 36:58Speaker 3: I hadn't signed it yet and I remember telling Michelle Mack,
- 37:01Speaker 3: who was the casting director, Hey, I have this model,
- 37:04Speaker 3: and she was very like, take it or leave it.
- 37:07Speaker 3: If you want to come on the show, great, but
- 37:09Speaker 3: you can't. You know, I can't tell you what to do,
- 37:11Speaker 3: but we don't accept models that have signed contracts to
- 37:14Speaker 3: come on this show. So I did the audition and
- 37:17Speaker 3: that was a very thorough long process, and I decided, well,
- 37:21Speaker 3: you know, at least if I try out, I'll have
- 37:23Speaker 3: a broader reach. I also thought there'd be some sort
- 37:26Speaker 3: of mentorship and great experience and kind of like somewhat
- 37:30Speaker 3: of a boot camp. And I thought, well, I can
- 37:33Speaker 3: come home to at least a contract waiting for me
- 37:36Speaker 3: with four models.
- 37:37Speaker 1: What was that like then? So you went on America's
- 37:39Speaker 1: ex Hum Model. You won. Spoiler alert it was not
- 37:44Speaker 1: it was a while ago, so no spoilers here. You
- 37:47Speaker 1: won your season. What was that journey like? Do you
- 37:51Speaker 1: feel like after America's sex Hum Model, this was that
- 37:55Speaker 1: was the right sort of path to take. Did you
- 37:57Speaker 1: have this moment where you were.
- 37:58Speaker 4: Like, oh, I was thinking, like I was wondering in hindsight,
- 38:02Speaker 4: if you had to do it all over again. Is
- 38:04Speaker 4: there any part of you that wishes that maybe you
- 38:07Speaker 4: had gone ahead and stayed with Ford, or do you
- 38:09Speaker 4: feel like you know you were at the right moment
- 38:12Speaker 4: at the right time, and being on America's Next Top
- 38:14Speaker 4: Model was a good thing for you to do.
- 38:17Speaker 3: I think it's hard for me to even answer that
- 38:19Speaker 3: because I come from Jacksonville, which is kind of a
- 38:21Speaker 3: small town but a big city, and I was really sheltered,
- 38:25Speaker 3: and so I feel like my ultimate goal was to
- 38:28Speaker 3: live in New York City and to work as a
- 38:30Speaker 3: fashion model. And I think, you know, I might have
- 38:33Speaker 3: stayed in the Florida market and gradually progressed, But in hindsight,
- 38:38Speaker 3: I think the one takeaway from the whole experience, I'm
- 38:42Speaker 3: not I don't deal well with Celebritism, and I find
- 38:45Speaker 3: because it opens the door to a lot of coolness,
- 38:47Speaker 3: and it's very hard for me to even kind of
- 38:51Speaker 3: take a risk to at the time that I was
- 38:53Speaker 3: getting offers to go back on reality TV, and I
- 38:56Speaker 3: really just was adamant about staying the course and being
- 39:00Speaker 3: a fashion model and also growing in television, and that's
- 39:03Speaker 3: really where my I guess you could say I was
- 39:06Speaker 3: able to break out of the debt that incurred after
- 39:08Speaker 3: the show. I wasn't expecting a lot after the win,
- 39:12Speaker 3: what was going to happen or what was going to
- 39:14Speaker 3: have to be on my shoulders, And it really was
- 39:17Speaker 3: eye opening and it kind of had to navigate how
- 39:18Speaker 3: to be a business woman.
- 39:20Speaker 1: And so after you won the show, walk us through
- 39:24Speaker 1: what that experience was like. Right, there were certain promises
- 39:27Speaker 1: we're hearing all over the internet, We're seeing all over
- 39:31Speaker 1: these documentaries that really what was billed as Tyra was
- 39:36Speaker 1: going to be your mentor you were going to get
- 39:38Speaker 1: these modeling contracts, you were going to get signed by
- 39:40Speaker 1: these agencies. This was your career was pretty much guaranteed. Right,
- 39:45Speaker 1: We're really learning now that that is not necessarily what
- 39:50Speaker 1: the takeaway was, or at least that promise not necessarily
- 39:54Speaker 1: that that all of that was promised that you were
- 39:56Speaker 1: going to be a superstar if you won this show.
- 39:58Speaker 1: But they weren't also dispelling that rumor or letting the
- 40:03Speaker 1: girls know like, hey, yeah, it's really going to be
- 40:06Speaker 1: up to you your celebrity, how famous you are, how
- 40:11Speaker 1: far you make it in the modeling industry, that's really
- 40:14Speaker 1: going to be up to you, and whether you're an entrepreneur.
- 40:16Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I think that discussion hadn't even happened. I
- 40:19Speaker 3: just remember coming off the show You Go the Way.
- 40:22Speaker 3: For six months, I was still nannying. I saved up
- 40:24Speaker 3: all of my money, and I knew I was going
- 40:26Speaker 3: to have to eventually move to New York. I didn't
- 40:29Speaker 3: know the day they announced me that I had to
- 40:31Speaker 3: live in New York. So we've been navigating where I
- 40:33Speaker 3: was going to live. Yeah, yeah, that's crazy. And on
- 40:37Speaker 3: that same day, you know, getting established with an agency
- 40:41Speaker 3: that you know, that was the contract I won. It
- 40:43Speaker 3: was only for one year, but I stayed for several years,
- 40:45Speaker 3: and it really was just a right to work. But
- 40:47Speaker 3: where they're empty promises a thousand percent, there was you're
- 40:51Speaker 3: going to be doing this, You're going to be doing that.
- 40:53Speaker 3: So in my mind I kept building up, Oh great,
- 40:55Speaker 3: now I'm going to be self sufficient and I can
- 40:57Speaker 3: take care of myself. They're going to be introducing me
- 40:59Speaker 3: to this client and to that client, and they have
- 41:02Speaker 3: a lot of pull because of their record. You know,
- 41:05Speaker 3: I don't want to throw names out there, but you know,
- 41:07Speaker 3: certain people are very recognized, and I thought, Okay, they're
- 41:10Speaker 3: gonna want to They're gonna want to introduce me I'm
- 41:13Speaker 3: gonna make introductions and I'm gonna work hard to prove
- 41:15Speaker 3: myself after this and ended up being where I just
- 41:19Speaker 3: felt it was more about being a jockey, uh for
- 41:22Speaker 3: the franchise and having to constantly do appearance after appearance
- 41:26Speaker 3: after appearance after appearance, and I was getting billed for
- 41:29Speaker 3: all those appearances in regards to hair, makeup, car services
- 41:35Speaker 3: if there was a flight or a delay, and I
- 41:38Speaker 3: was I was shocked. I was shocked that, you know,
- 41:41Speaker 3: maybe being so naive and trusting that I thought it
- 41:43Speaker 3: would have gotten taken care of by the network, but no,
- 41:46Speaker 3: it was all on me. And that was separate from
- 41:48Speaker 3: what was the debt incurring with the agency because I
- 41:51Speaker 3: had to rebuild my whole portfolio. They couldn't use any
- 41:54Speaker 3: of the images from the show, and so I had to.
- 41:57Speaker 1: Interest you because it's all owned by the network.
- 41:59Speaker 3: It's all yeah, I mean, and I think it doesn't
- 42:02Speaker 3: really sell a model because you have to be so
- 42:04Speaker 3: toned down. So that day when I signed, I went
- 42:08Speaker 3: directly to go shoot with some of the world's greatest
- 42:11Speaker 3: photographers and I was having to incur which the testing
- 42:15Speaker 3: fees I and and that would be the branding for
- 42:18Speaker 3: the agency. So that was that was a whole separate
- 42:22Speaker 3: debt that I was incurring. And then I was having
- 42:24Speaker 3: to figure out how I was going to maintain living
- 42:26Speaker 3: in New York while doing all of this. And a
- 42:28Speaker 3: big part of the shock to me was with all
- 42:32Speaker 3: the appearances, I did have work coming in, but I
- 42:35Speaker 3: wasn't allowed to take some of the jobs because I
- 42:37Speaker 3: was indebted to the franchise and they got seniority over
- 42:42Speaker 3: me being able to work.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Ooh, that's a lot of crazy.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:46Speaker 1: So just for people who are listening and maybe don't understand,
- 42:49Speaker 1: so you had signed this contract to be on this show.
- 42:52Speaker 1: It sounds like all these terms were in that contract.
- 42:55Speaker 1: You're going to do all these appearances. It's going to
- 42:57Speaker 1: be at your own expense. We get first right over
- 42:59Speaker 1: a few usual for any if you book a gig
- 43:02Speaker 1: and we have you booked at that same time, they
- 43:05Speaker 1: could kill a deal that you got in market because
- 43:08Speaker 1: you already signed that contract.
- 43:10Speaker 3: I had two great deals that were like in the works,
- 43:12Speaker 3: and they were like, I'm sorry, but you have to
- 43:14Speaker 3: go up here. And then I started becoming really angry
- 43:18Speaker 3: because I thought, Okay, first of all, how am I
- 43:20Speaker 3: going to be able to afford to maintain the title
- 43:23Speaker 3: of America's next top model when I'm not even able
- 43:26Speaker 3: to take some of the jobs that they're are.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I can't even just take work that any model it
- 43:31Speaker 1: could could get a gig.
- 43:33Speaker 4: So, you know, so after you win, is that when
- 43:36Speaker 4: you sign a contract for the year that's ahead of
- 43:40Speaker 4: you and did you get an opportunity to show that
- 43:44Speaker 4: contract to anybody else or did you? And you know,
- 43:46Speaker 4: and being young and naive or whatever, you just would
- 43:50Speaker 4: have signed it thinking that I should trust these people.
- 43:53Speaker 3: I have a fun we have a funny thing. Because
- 43:55Speaker 3: you're an attorney, Michael, I think anytime you're like I'm
- 43:58Speaker 3: going to get an attorney to look at this well
- 44:00Speaker 3: to do that, you're around grateful and you don't want
- 44:02Speaker 3: this job and write. So it was very like, oh crap,
- 44:06Speaker 3: Like okay, so I remember, I remember signing onto the
- 44:09Speaker 3: show and if you want, and the fine print was there. However,
- 44:13Speaker 3: I do not recall anything in regards to appearances or
- 44:17Speaker 3: how many and I'm not talking three, four, five, six, seven, eight, No,
- 44:21Speaker 3: it was like getting into the dozens, and you know,
- 44:24Speaker 3: also going on onto the show, doing all these red
- 44:28Speaker 3: carpet events, doing charity events, doing step and repeats for
- 44:32Speaker 3: the network. It was like, I mean, in hindsight, it
- 44:35Speaker 3: was just so many and then you know, and I'll
- 44:37Speaker 3: be honest, it was overwhelming. I didn't have the clothes
- 44:41Speaker 3: to support the appearances. I didn't have the budget to
- 44:44Speaker 3: do that, and a lot of the fashion houses did
- 44:47Speaker 3: not want to lend to a winner of America's Next
- 44:49Speaker 3: Top Model.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Sure, why do you think that was because you were
- 44:52Speaker 1: on an earlier season the sort of campiness of the
- 44:57Speaker 1: show hadn't They really leaned hard into the insanity, right.
- 45:01Speaker 1: I think at one point we have images of the models,
- 45:06Speaker 1: the contestants walking down a runway where there's like a
- 45:08Speaker 1: clock pendulum swinging like knocked and girls off the runway. Yeah,
- 45:12Speaker 1: there was like a runway challenge where they're on a
- 45:14Speaker 1: treadmill and aid and chiels, like they really got truly
- 45:18Speaker 1: insane camp with it.
- 45:20Speaker 2: There was another runway that I remember where it was on.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Water and the models had some sort of the steps
- 45:27Speaker 4: were on water, but they were like wobbling and these
- 45:31Speaker 4: girls were in high heels and they're trying to and what.
- 45:33Speaker 1: I remember it was fear factor pretty much.
- 45:36Speaker 4: But I just remember looking at that and feeling like
- 45:39Speaker 4: and you know, and Tyra and all the others were
- 45:42Speaker 4: like laughing and giggling, and you know, it felt very mean,
- 45:47Speaker 4: like mean girl to me.
- 45:48Speaker 3: Well, I think they practiced for the wildlong West of
- 45:50Speaker 3: the Internet, didn't they.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yes, they did, yet they did, and I signed up.
- 45:56Speaker 3: I'm kind of like grateful for you know, what I
- 45:59Speaker 3: took away from, which is navigating not giving so much
- 46:02Speaker 3: energy and response of a negative confrontation. But you know,
- 46:08Speaker 3: it also made me stronger in regards to the business side.
- 46:11Speaker 3: But yeah, it started becoming where it was they were
- 46:13Speaker 3: definitely humiliating the girls and I didn't watch it after
- 46:16Speaker 3: my season because of that. That was my main reason.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I didn't want to see girls being humiliated. And I
- 46:21Speaker 3: thought that as the seasons went on, the more of
- 46:24Speaker 3: the shoots were becoming more and more outlandish and ridiculous,
- 46:28Speaker 3: and they didn't really translate into the fashion arena. So
- 46:32Speaker 3: you know, I kind of just felt a little bit
- 46:35Speaker 3: jaded for what they were doing to the rest of
- 46:39Speaker 3: the contestants and the hopeful I think the thing with
- 46:41Speaker 3: people don't understand I wanted the right to work, and
- 46:44Speaker 3: a lot of these girls on and we're so naive
- 46:47Speaker 3: and we're so trusting that we're like, Okay, this is
- 46:49Speaker 3: going to be this is really going to help us
- 46:51Speaker 3: have a farther reach. We're going to have more opportunities,
- 46:54Speaker 3: We're gonna be able to be self sufficient. And it
- 46:57Speaker 3: just you know, I came at a cost.
- 47:00Speaker 1: So you won your season, you had this experience. You've
- 47:05Speaker 1: really managed to build an incredible career after winning your season.
- 47:10Speaker 1: It sounds like against all odds.
- 47:12Speaker 3: Oh the odds were well. Also, when I won, there
- 47:14Speaker 3: was no social media, so there was no fact checking
- 47:17Speaker 3: to know what I had been doing.
- 47:18Speaker 1: Yeah, there was no way for people to be like, oh,
- 47:20Speaker 1: look she's at this event, or oh that's the fiftieth
- 47:22Speaker 1: tharity event. Yeah, in the same dress.
- 47:27Speaker 3: I know, kind of great, but no, Yeah, one of
- 47:31Speaker 3: the I did do a lot of fashion modeling during
- 47:34Speaker 3: that time in New York, and I traveled worldwide. I
- 47:36Speaker 3: had a cosmetic campaigns, I did a lot of fashion
- 47:40Speaker 3: commentating and reporting, and I had my own Shawnee Networks,
- 47:43Speaker 3: and I had multiple specials with the Lore magazine. I
- 47:47Speaker 3: did a Vogue Beauty TV. I mean, the list was
- 47:50Speaker 3: really insane as far as broadcasting, and it was at
- 47:53Speaker 3: a time when I think the only other model at
- 47:55Speaker 3: the agency was Heidi Klum who was getting into television.
- 47:58Speaker 3: So they really did in me and doing that. And
- 48:02Speaker 3: then when I had left New York I had my son.
- 48:05Speaker 3: I did so much modeling much more when I moved
- 48:09Speaker 3: to Florida, because I guess the market for what I
- 48:12Speaker 3: who I was expanded, and it was and it was
- 48:16Speaker 3: amazing because I did catalogs, I booked QVC at home
- 48:20Speaker 3: shopping network opportunities. I had at least thirty covers within
- 48:24Speaker 3: the first two years. When I moved back, I did
- 48:26Speaker 3: like campaign for Waldorf Astoria, like a bunch of hotels,
- 48:29Speaker 3: a lot of luxury. So when people say you should
- 48:32Speaker 3: have hustled, you should have had a career, honey, out
- 48:34Speaker 3: was working my ass.
- 48:36Speaker 2: Sure, you were, of course, certain and hard.
- 48:39Speaker 4: You want to let me ask you a question before,
- 48:42Speaker 4: before you were on America's Next Top Model and you
- 48:44Speaker 4: had signed with Ford, when you imagined yourself being a model,
- 48:49Speaker 4: what did that look like to you?
- 48:51Speaker 3: You know, that's a great question because in the time
- 48:54Speaker 3: growing up, we were in the nineties, so that whole
- 48:56Speaker 3: era of like chic and photography and the quality of
- 49:02Speaker 3: fashion as far As was so fascinating to me, and
- 49:07Speaker 3: I think putting forth the effort of like really wanting
- 49:09Speaker 3: to belong and having that fashion background, I think ideally
- 49:14Speaker 3: at that age, I just wanted to break away from
- 49:17Speaker 3: the intensity of studying international relations and have a little
- 49:21Speaker 3: bit of fantasy. And I loved being behind the camera.
- 49:24Speaker 3: I loved I love, I love not being controlled by
- 49:28Speaker 3: a schedule. So I felt like being able to travel,
- 49:31Speaker 3: having working around artists, working around creatives is something I've
- 49:35Speaker 3: always enjoyed. I'm very free spirited, so I like someone
- 49:41Speaker 3: picking up the phone, a manager or a booker saying, hey,
- 49:43Speaker 3: you're booked on this, you got to lead tomorrow. That
- 49:45Speaker 3: to me is what makes me feel exciting about life.
- 49:48Speaker 3: So I think I think that was it. And I
- 49:51Speaker 3: also think I looked up to the top models like
- 49:56Speaker 3: Stephanie Seymour to me was like who I wanted to become,
- 49:59Speaker 3: but my my own version, you know. And Doris Yeah,
- 50:02Speaker 3: so yeah, So it was really taken back and I
- 50:04Speaker 3: just I fell in love with the whole ideal of
- 50:07Speaker 3: just like being a part of that group.
- 50:09Speaker 1: So after America's Next Top Model, were you paid as
- 50:13Speaker 1: the winner? Was there a prize? Money or what was
- 50:16Speaker 1: that like?
- 50:16Speaker 2: Oh sorry, oh on is laughing.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Oh no, I went in the.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Red, I went in the deficit, I went in debt,
- 50:28Speaker 3: and I broke out of the debt and here I
- 50:30Speaker 3: am today.
- 50:31Speaker 1: That's incredible. Congratulations, that's amazing. Yeah, okay, So walk me
- 50:34Speaker 1: through these documentaries. What is sort of happening right now
- 50:37Speaker 1: from your perspective, because we're seeing the clips, they're sort
- 50:39Speaker 1: of like dueling documentaries. We're seeing the clips. It seems
- 50:43Speaker 1: like Tyra and her team wanted to preempt the current
- 50:46Speaker 1: one on E by dropping a documentary on Netflix from
- 50:52Speaker 1: Tyra's point of view, and I mean, this has been
- 50:56Speaker 1: memed to death, sure, but there are so many images
- 50:59Speaker 1: of Hyro and not taking accountability, putting the blame on
- 51:03Speaker 1: other people, showing that she was just really complicit with
- 51:07Speaker 1: what was happening to the girls and that you know,
- 51:11Speaker 1: what was being sold to them was a faulty bill
- 51:13Speaker 1: of goods. Right. So then we have the documentary that
- 51:18Speaker 1: dropped that you are a part of with E. Tell
- 51:22Speaker 1: us about it, walk us through it. How is it
- 51:24Speaker 1: different from the Netflix one? What is going on? Like
- 51:28Speaker 1: it really is dominating the news cycles. People don't know
- 51:33Speaker 1: people are people are getting really heated about it.
- 51:35Speaker 4: Sure, And what was so by participating what was your
- 51:38Speaker 4: goal right by being in this because documentary being this documentary,
- 51:43Speaker 4: because you've gone on to have, like you said, this
- 51:45Speaker 4: really wonderful, illustrious career, and this is a long time ago,
- 51:50Speaker 4: and you had said that, you know, one of the
- 51:52Speaker 4: things that you didn't really love was like that celebrity
- 51:55Speaker 4: that celebrity myth And so I'm wondering what the goal
- 51:59Speaker 4: was by participate painting in this doc.
- 52:01Speaker 3: Oh gosh, that's a great question. So I knew about
- 52:05Speaker 3: both of the docs simultaneously at the same time, and
- 52:08Speaker 3: I was approached by Glass Entertainment Group and that's the
- 52:12Speaker 3: one that did the e Doctor. Officially it was going
- 52:14Speaker 3: to be on a separate network streaming platform, but I
- 52:18Speaker 3: think because the two had separated. However, whatever happened and
- 52:22Speaker 3: I did and I did know about Netflix. They had
- 52:24Speaker 3: I essentially they said it's best you couldn't do both
- 52:28Speaker 3: at the same time, even though some of a couple
- 52:30Speaker 3: of the girls did. But I heard initially that Tyra
- 52:35Speaker 3: had not signed on to do the Netflix, that they
- 52:37Speaker 3: had reached out to her and she had heard about
- 52:40Speaker 3: the documentaries and her team, they said they couldn't get
- 52:44Speaker 3: a clear answer, so I guess eventually she committed to
- 52:48Speaker 3: the Netflix, and I do believe from seeing it, I
- 52:52Speaker 3: think it was on the premise of hopefully getting people
- 52:55Speaker 3: to tune into cycle twenty five. I think that was
- 52:58Speaker 3: the goal. And I feel that one of the main
- 53:03Speaker 3: reasons that I came out to talk about my experience
- 53:06Speaker 3: was because this show has been packaged and sold worldwide
- 53:11Speaker 3: over one hundred and fifty countries. The same practices are
- 53:15Speaker 3: still happening, the same production, the same sort of exploitativeness
- 53:22Speaker 3: of what's going on, and at a certain point, I'm
- 53:25Speaker 3: a mom now I have a teenage son, but like
- 53:27Speaker 3: I wanted to also come out and protect hopeful, naive
- 53:33Speaker 3: young people who are thinking this is going to be
- 53:35Speaker 3: the solution to their dreams and their goals and hopes,
- 53:39Speaker 3: and I just wanted them to know, like, hey, the
- 53:41Speaker 3: ones in charge are making the money. And I think
- 53:45Speaker 3: it was an opportunity to come out. And also I
- 53:48Speaker 3: couldn't talk about what I was dealing with twenty years
- 53:51Speaker 3: ago because I wasn't ready to deal with it. I
- 53:54Speaker 3: had a severe exercise disorder after winning the show I
- 53:59Speaker 3: became so tiny to the point where you know, it
- 54:02Speaker 3: complicated a lot of things in my health, and I
- 54:05Speaker 3: felt like that was also something I wanted to come
- 54:07Speaker 3: out and share and be very vulnerable and help a
- 54:10Speaker 3: young lady or a daughter or a mother who is
- 54:13Speaker 3: dealing with the same because it's not a topic that
- 54:15Speaker 3: really gets discussed, especially in fashion. It's a lot of
- 54:19Speaker 3: it is behind closed doors, but they do not want
- 54:21Speaker 3: to come to surface, and so I thought it was
- 54:24Speaker 3: an opportunity to also kind of set a lot of
- 54:27Speaker 3: people that are struggling with the same things that I was. Free.
- 54:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so take us through this documentary, tell us a
- 54:34Speaker 1: little bit about it, what you talk about, let people
- 54:37Speaker 1: know what is going on in there.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Yeah. So this particular doc I think they had brought
- 54:42Speaker 3: a couple of the winners. I do think there's a
- 54:46Speaker 3: lot of cultural critics, which is good. I do think
- 54:49Speaker 3: they gave a lot of perspective of the era when
- 54:53Speaker 3: I was on the show and kind of what their
- 54:55Speaker 3: interpretation of Tyra is, which I thought was very harsh,
- 54:58Speaker 3: especially if they don't really know her that way. I
- 55:00Speaker 3: think it's all just assumption. And I think it was
- 55:04Speaker 3: also interesting for me from the Netflix stock hearing other
- 55:07Speaker 3: contestants and other winners and their stories and what they
- 55:10Speaker 3: had gone through, and I think a lot of people
- 55:14Speaker 3: vacillate with how positive it was and how negative it was.
- 55:19Speaker 3: It's almost like we were in a cult. So yeah,
- 55:23Speaker 3: so I feel like sometimes they go back to kind
- 55:27Speaker 3: of apologize to the main you know, the main cult leader,
- 55:31Speaker 3: and then they go back and they said no, but
- 55:32Speaker 3: really it wasn't that.
- 55:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 55:34Speaker 3: It's a very strange dynamic seeing the contestants and then
- 55:37Speaker 3: them kind of shying away from their truth and then well.
- 55:40Speaker 1: It's also like you also said that, like you went
- 55:43Speaker 1: into debt just afterwards, it would in my mind, I'm thinking, Okay,
- 55:47Speaker 1: if I won that show and I went into a
- 55:50Speaker 1: bunch of debt and then there was an opportunity to
- 55:52Speaker 1: kind of kiss the ring, maybe get a deal, maybe
- 55:55Speaker 1: get a contract, Like it makes sense why people are
- 55:58Speaker 1: maybe sucking up to trying to get some of their
- 56:01Speaker 1: own thing going with the network. Like I understand it, right,
- 56:05Speaker 1: the a lot of these women have been put into
- 56:08Speaker 1: a position of vulnerability just by virtue of being on
- 56:12Speaker 1: that show. People don't want to work with them maybe
- 56:15Speaker 1: or they're already kind of you know, we're part of
- 56:18Speaker 1: reality TV. I think it's it's interesting culturally to watch
- 56:23Speaker 1: what's happening, right, I mean, and many of the girls
- 56:25Speaker 1: came from a place of poverty before the show, right,
- 56:29Speaker 1: and they went on TV, got all this attention and
- 56:31Speaker 1: were lowered back into their community without any support systems.
- 56:35Speaker 3: Sure, and I think a big part I felt a
- 56:37Speaker 3: lot of shame with the debt, partly because you know,
- 56:40Speaker 3: my father was a physician in my hometown and my
- 56:42Speaker 3: mother and they had their practice. I didn't want the
- 56:44Speaker 3: stigma of like having a daughter who you know, they
- 56:47Speaker 3: were so proud of, and you know, being in the
- 56:50Speaker 3: small town and the way people talk, you know, and
- 56:52Speaker 3: coming back with a tale between my leg I mean,
- 56:54Speaker 3: I was like, I'm going to work the hell out
- 56:56Speaker 3: of this debt. And I did because I wanted. I
- 57:00Speaker 3: want to let my parents down if they wanted me
- 57:02Speaker 3: to come home. They my mother had had enough of
- 57:05Speaker 3: the whole setup. She said, they're taking advantage of you.
- 57:08Speaker 3: This is ridiculous. I don't like what they're doing with
- 57:11Speaker 3: you. You know, you don't see it, but we see it
- 57:14Speaker 3: as your parents, you know, come home.
- 57:16Speaker 2: They do know, Mom, Yeah.
- 57:19Speaker 3: And she kept saying come home, and she goes, we
- 57:21Speaker 3: know you're not telling us what you're really going through,
- 57:24Speaker 3: and I wasn't. I was hiding it because I and
- 57:27Speaker 3: I wanted to stay in the game, and I also
- 57:29Speaker 3: I wanted to work, and I was so proud of
- 57:31Speaker 3: the agency I was with that I just decided, you
- 57:35Speaker 3: know what, YO wanna this is going to be a lesson.
- 57:38Speaker 3: You're going to take this as a lesson. You're going
- 57:40Speaker 3: to navigate it, and you're going to do the best
- 57:42Speaker 3: you can. But I do think it derailed a little
- 57:45Speaker 3: bit of my mental health, and that's why I think
- 57:47Speaker 3: it was so hard on myself with my body image
- 57:50Speaker 3: for sure, of.
- 57:51Speaker 4: Course, I mean sure, because here you were in front
- 57:53Speaker 4: of people who are supposed to know more than you,
- 57:56Speaker 4: right because they've been in this business, and instead of
- 58:01Speaker 4: it sounds to me, instead of building you up, they
- 58:06Speaker 4: were sort of building you up to bring you down somehow, right,
- 58:09Speaker 4: because if you were the ideas, I'm going to be
- 58:12Speaker 4: this model, but they're not giving you the opportunity to work.
- 58:16Speaker 4: It's almost like you were this indentured servant, you know
- 58:19Speaker 4: what I mean, Like you were having to do all
- 58:20Speaker 4: these things, but you couldn't, you know, make your career
- 58:23Speaker 4: go forward in the way that you wanted to At
- 58:25Speaker 4: the time, I did want to ask you a question.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Sure, have you.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Seen Tyra Banks in recent times?
- 58:33Speaker 2: And if you did, what was that like?
- 58:35Speaker 4: And if you haven't seen her, what would you like
- 58:38Speaker 4: her to know about you or what would you like
- 58:39Speaker 4: to say to her?
- 58:40Speaker 1: Have you seen her since you won?
- 58:42Speaker 3: Oh? Yeah, I saw her a bunch since I won.
- 58:45Speaker 3: I'm very different in the sense that, gosh, how do
- 58:49Speaker 3: I say this? She travels with the team, and I
- 58:54Speaker 3: get very uncomfortable with people who have entourages. It's something
- 58:58Speaker 3: that I've had to work through with I know I
- 59:01Speaker 3: had to sign an NDA, so I can't say who.
- 59:04Speaker 3: But that's something for me I find very uncomfortable to
- 59:07Speaker 3: be around. And you know, I did get invited to
- 59:10Speaker 3: go on her talk show several times, and you know
- 59:12Speaker 3: I was paid then to go on to But you know,
- 59:16Speaker 3: I just take it for what it is. And I
- 59:19Speaker 3: think a big part of it is she's not my buddy.
- 59:22Speaker 3: She's not someone I'm going to pick up the phone
- 59:24Speaker 3: and you know, talk about what we're making for dinner tonight.
- 59:28Speaker 3: I'm not really in awe of her, I think the
- 59:31Speaker 3: way a lot of people are. I have other people
- 59:33Speaker 3: that I look up to, and I think, of course
- 59:35Speaker 3: for her, it's just, you know, she's an extension of
- 59:38Speaker 3: a part of my life. Who knows, maybe if I'm
- 59:41Speaker 3: down in the land down Under, if I see her,
- 59:43Speaker 3: I'll say hello, But you know, I don't know what.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Okay, So you went through this whole experience. You now
- 59:51Speaker 1: there are these documentaries. What as you reflect on this
- 59:55Speaker 1: part of your life, what is your takeaway?
- 59:57Speaker 3: Like?
- 59:57Speaker 1: What are you sort of saying to yourself and to
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: people who are maybe watching these documentaries formulating their own opinions,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: like what do you want them to know?
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: I think we've done a good job just spelling kind
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: of the myth of what it is to be the
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: winner and what really happened, and just the economics of
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: what goes in. I mean, I can't really assume what
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: people are going to walk away with because I feel
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: like if I try to get into their heads, and
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: I did do that. After the doc I was like,
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: I'm going to fight these people online and I'm going
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: to and then I thought, you, but I'm going to
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: turn into into them. I want to, Yeah, and I'm
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: like you're like.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: Oh, so then I.
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Come to you on TikTok and I laugh and I'm like,
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: I don't you know. I felt like I stopped replying
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: because it just became where you would see so much
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: positive and then it would be people just attacking and
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: going for it, and I'm like, where's all this emotion
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: coming from. But I will say there is a rumor
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: that there is PR crisis in the mix.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I would. I would be shocked if there weren't PR.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: So sometimes I.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Look at a comment, I'm like, who is this bot?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: What is bot?
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: What you bought?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Was this?
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: You know?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I mean because like you said, like the house always wins, right,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: and this is one hundred and fifty country franchise. This
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: isn't just Tyra. This is a machine, right that we're
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: talking about. So I mean, there's there are people freaking
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: out in a conference room somewhere as we speak. I'm sure, of.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Course, of course.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: I mean, I think that the idea was to sort
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: of try and explain away what had happened on the show.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: But now here is this other documentary that is giving
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: what happened on the show from the perspective of the
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: people who were in the trenches.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Right, And I like what you've done. Honestly, I've been
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: watching how you've handled these interviews and how you approach it.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: A lot of people are, like you said, giving their
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: opinions and judgments of the situation. You have always been
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: really matter of fact of just the facts. You're like,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: this is what happened. Here are the words. What you
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: do with it is up to you, which I appreciate
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: because there are there's a lot of opinions hopping in
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: the cop oh gosh, and.
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: They're so emotional, I feel, And I wanted to come
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: from a very calm, matter of fact place, and I
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: think that's why it was one of the main voices
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: that Glass Entertainment said. And I said, do I come
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: across complaining? And I said, no, You're just very matter
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: of fact. I said, I just wanted to be matter
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: of fact. I just wanted to cut through the fantasy
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: and give the audience. I mean, the title is America, right,
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: so don't they have a right to know what really
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: happens after you come off of a show like that?
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: And I think a big part of the aggression, I
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: think is because they I think when you disclose or
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: you share something that is uncomfortable from what they believed
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: in their mind, or what they thought what they witnessed
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: watching on TV, or their perception of what they think
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: the fashion industry is really like. And a lot of
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: these people comment and haven't ever even experienced the business
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: of being a fashion I feel that really is what
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: triggers them, because they don't want to look foolish. They
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: don't want to be like, oh, you're making me look stupid.
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: I have this belief in my mind of how it
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: was supposed to be, and now you're putting the little
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: pin in that balloon. And that's that's what I take
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: away from everything.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, Well, is there anything that you're working
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: on right now you would like the listeners to know about.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: I think they can check out the documentary if they
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: haven't already anything else you want people to pay attention
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: to it as we're working.
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: Well, I'm still I do. I do a lot of
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: traveling workshops and I'm also affiliate now TikTok so I
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: I'm with the Russell Hartley team. So amazing learning the
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: whole world of TikTok. I know you're you're far more
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: advanced than I am.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: So Michael is prolific and TikTok.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: I think it's amazing because you just do it so
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: organically and I really in my head and you're like, oh,
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: I love listening to you.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: Thank you. You're very People asked me that a lot.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: They're like, how do you have time to like curate
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: your tiktoks? And I'm like, honey, I'm not curating it.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: It is filmed in the bathroom, like it is like
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I'm running out a corner, I'm doing this and doing that,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: and I really am just so switching on the camera.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: So thank you. That's the kind of you.
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Yeah, how did you choose immigration law?
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: It really chose me. I mean I've been practicing. I
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: practiced criminal law. I've been at law firms before, but
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: once I kind of got one client and then it
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: really snowballed from there and there really is a huge
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: demand for immigration law for lawyers who know how to
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: do that work. So once you kind of specialized and
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: kind of get to know it, it gets I love it.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: You just get really busy really quickly, and next thing
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: you know, you're not working on those contracts or real
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: estate deals anymore.
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: I will tell you that.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: I remember when Michael started doing immigration law and we
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: remember he was like, he's like, you know, I feel
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: like I need to do something to help somebody. I
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: was like, go ahead and do that, and I remember
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: him telling about it, and you know, I think one
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: of the things about Michael is like he comes. Somebody
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: was asking me about this. Is he really that way
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: all the time? The way that you see him on TikTok?
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: And I was like, yes, but Michael is very thoughtful
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: and he he does really think about what can he
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: do to help somebody do something. So it's been as
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: his friend, it's been really nice to sort of watch
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: him turn into this this person over here.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: It's true.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: It's true.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: I wouldn't say if it wasn't true, but like that's
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: I think people don't know that about Michael's Like he
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: one day was just like I need to do something
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: to help somebody. And it's sort of like one I
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: think it was like one case.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: It was one case. So it was that kids like,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: oh that kid y. I had a kid who was
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: just like the coolest kid ever and I love him
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: so much.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: And I was like, and now he's almost a grown man.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I love that.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: No, it's great, it's wonderful.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I'm so glad we got to
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: chat with you.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I know, I hope you got the right answers.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: No, yeah, the right answers are whatever your truth is, Joanna.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Do you want to give us your socials?
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: Oh?
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Yeah, sure.
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: So I'm on Instagram I'm Yomania and that's y O
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: M A N I A. And then on TikTok I'm
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: yo Mania I think zero two.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: All right, thank you so much for joining us.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Thank you, takod care. It's nice to meet you.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: Bye bye, take care, bye bye.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Let's get into tails from the DMS. We've got some
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: incredible dms.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Incredible, incredible, incredible people.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: Y'all are absolutely y'all said, you know what, hold my drink.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: I'm going to pop a handstand and to work in
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Michael's DMS. The things y'all are sending me, and.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: Let me just say, I love it so much. I
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: was going to say, he oh my god, he's living
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: for it.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: I'm on the spin bike laughing. I'm like looking at
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: the things, I'm like, you're killing me. Y'all are killing me.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: Anyway, Before we get into the DM's friends, what do
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: I always say. While Michael is a lawyer, he is
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: not your lawyer.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Get your own.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Oh my god. Okay, so first of all, I just
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: have to jump in really quick with this one.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Jump in.
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: Hey, Michael, I hope you see this message.
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: Oh I saw this.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Go ahead, go ahead, go ahead.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Guess what I saw it. I'm one of those annoying
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: cancer survivors that push trauma on others. All right, we're
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: really happy you survive self awareness. Yes, and also yeah,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: I really need you to get the evil spot on
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: your forehead checked.
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: Okay, that's what they say, that's what just a I
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: know you're smart and kept it together, but it reminds
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: me of a tiny spot of cancer I had to
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: have removed.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Keep being who you are. But can you get this
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: looked at? Please? You going to so thank you for
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: head talk, for getting in my DMS.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Where is this little spot right there?
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, it's this getting close, get it on my
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: close because we can. We'll actually do like a right
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: to left reading of my forehead like a palm because
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: over here and I will do it. So this is it.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: This is a broken blood vessel that I had checked
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: in January, and like this is to clear the record.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: Our doctor, our doctor, our share.
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: We go to the same dermatologists. I love him so much,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: and we keep each other accountable. So like, thank you
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: for messaging me this. This is a good PSA reminder.
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: It's always better to have like a cancer prevention girly
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: bestie where you hold each other accountable. So like I
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: have a friend. He and I go to the boy
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: doctor and we remind each other to just go get
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: boy stuff checked. Okay, and that's all I'll say. Okay,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: it's boy.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Part related like girl stuff.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Like do you have a girlfriend where you're like, hey,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: did you get your.
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: Oh, I'm the most annoying person in my friend group,
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Like you got to get your boobs checked?
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: You got to go to the collegist.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, you know what. The pap smear is named
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: after doctor Papa Nicolau or no, doctor Papadopoulos. Yeah, Pa P.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: It started so they didn't want to do his whole
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: name smear, so they just stood p A p.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: How do you know that this is the name He.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Was, I know his cousin.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: Okay, yeah listen, and I was like his flex.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: It's like that was like his flex, get his uncle
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: invented the pas. I was like, okay, here's anyway. So
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: this is a broken blood vessel and this over here
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: you might have seen last week I scratched my head
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: with my bike helmet.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Okay, so so he's okay from the down, we're not sure.
- 1:09:47Speaker 4: So we are doing reviews, which we love. Thank you
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: so much for doing that. It actually really doesn't mean
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: a lot to us, and we're going to read them
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: because you guys are hysterical.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Here's one.
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: I kind of stumbled into listening to this podcast, but
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: I'm so glad that I did. Not only is it
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: incredibly informative in these wild times, but the host have
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: such an amazing and comedic chemistry, like so good it
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: almost makes me want to crawl out of my introverted
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: shell and find friends. Almost but until that moment a
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: bravery bravery happens, it is truly enjoyable to kick back,
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: enjoy their banter, and learn something along the way.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Highly recommend. Thank you. That's so we appreciate that. Yeah,
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: I like it inside personally, so I'm not mad at
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: you for staying inside.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: You like it inside, okay, stay inside?
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: I do like it inside. Yeah, I do you know
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: that I like it inside.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I'm out in these streets, but I'm also in the house.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: No, I'm definitely more in the house.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, unless it's an estate sale, which else I want.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: You in the state sale. This weekend, I did slut.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: I think the reason why I like it inside is
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: because gen X was always outside and no one gave
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: a shit, and nobody ever knew.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Where we were till the street lights come home, come on.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: That's when you're doing That's.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: When you have to be home. So I like it inside.
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: Hey, Michael, Melissa, Hi, I was looking for some help
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: because I was summoned for federal jury service. It's a
- 1:11:19Speaker 6: twelve week case from May eleventh to July thirty first,
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: and if I'm chosen, I'd be still questioned for the
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: duration of the trial. Part of me is like super
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: excited for this, and I kind of want to be
- 1:11:31Speaker 6: chosen because this is such a cool side quest and
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: like it'll feel like summer camp, no phones, and like
- 1:11:36Speaker 6: I'm living for this, like courtroom drama and tea. But
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: I'm really worried about paying my rent for the duration
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: of the time i'd be serving, especially because it's over.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Two full months.
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: I work two part time jobs and they don't pay
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: for jury service time, and especially not for a case
- 1:11:53Speaker 6: that's so long. I'm also turning twenty five and like,
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: I only have so many hot girl summers left, and
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: I don't want to waste a whole pride month when
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: I'm single. Yeah, So I just want to advice on
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: how you think I should go forward because I filled
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: out an excuse to be dismissed and they still said
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: I'm considered eligible. I was also curious of what you
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: think the case may be. My friends and I thought
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: that it could be the Rob Reiner case. But we
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: were wondering if you had like any inside tea of
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: what's happening in California federal courts soon.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Oh she's in California, I'd say, okay, okay, So I
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: don't think it's the Rob Rhiner case because it's July thirty. First.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: I don't think he'll go on trial for at least
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: another year or two. Like that's way too soon, am
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: I Just the first response Nick Reiner, Oh, yes, the
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: Rhiner case. Yes, Oh my god. And I keep mixing
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: up that name and I did it on TikTok and
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: everyone in the comments was like, how dare you?
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: Rob was the dead?
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: Yes?
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Nick was the Sun is the sun?
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: And truly how darem? Yes? I should have victims' names
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: right Anyway, I think that's too soon. I love how
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: mess you are though, and it really makes my hurt
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: saying that, like you are someone who's fallen this show
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: and listening and sending in your message because you sound adorable.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: So I'm so excited fan of the pod. The the
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: fact that you're thinking about the number of hawk Girl
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: summers you've got left that is dedication to the whole life.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: I'm so proud of you because the hawt Girl summers,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: you only got so many, and it's what you do
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: with them that can.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: I don't know that hot Girl summer means that she's
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: dedicated to whnus.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: I think that.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: It's so easy and we're not shaming anybody, but hot
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: girl is not equal.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. You could do like a hawk Girl
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: in like a bonnet or a or a.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: Habit hat girl is like Some might say mind.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Some might say Whoopy Goldberg and the Sister Act and
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Sister Act two back in the Habit that was a
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: her Hawk Girl summer.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Maybe so you never know where is that.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: If you are in the sisterhood, you can just let
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: us know in the comments. But I do want to
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: talk a little bit about federal jury service because you
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: don't get paid, okay, you get paid fifty dollars a day.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: Okay, And let me just say as like I have
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: my stepdaughter as your age and as feeling like I'm
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: going to be your bonus mom as well. You already
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: said that you're working two part jobs, two part time jobs,
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: which I think is sort of what you need to
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: do in order to keep yourself alive. I don't know
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: that your desire for messiness is sort of the way
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: to go this time around. Yeah, I think that once
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: a messy girl, deep down, always a messy girl. There
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: will be time in the future when you are establishing
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: your career where you can afford to be off for
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: twelve months.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: For sure, it won't be fun. You're going to get
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: called to jury duty a bunch in your life, and
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: the cases are I mean, if you're going to trial,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: it's usually because there's like a real critical issue that
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: needs to get litigated. Ninety something percent a case is settle.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: So the fact that you're going to get called and
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: eventually serve on a jury. It's almost always going to
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: be messy, Tea. You'll write that, tell all, and just
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: wait until you've got a stable gig and you can
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: be a salaried employee who takes a week off for
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: jury duty and they cover your ass.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: The only other thing I want to say about jury
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: duty is just because you qualify for jury duty and
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: they're telling you you're qualifying, doesn't mean you're seated on
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: a jury. You got about five more steps before that happens.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: So you got to go the case actually has to
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: go to trial. You got to sit there and wait,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: they have to interview you. They've got it, they've got
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: peremptory strikes. There's so many things that happen where you
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: can explain and articulate. You're working two part time jobs.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: You cannot be sequestered for twelve weeks. You're going to
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: be on skid row on the breadline. Yeah, so you'll
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: have an opportunity to tell a judge and tell the
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: lawyers and hopefully likely get out of jury duty.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: Truly doesn't sound like you can afford to do this
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: right now. And as far as things being like messy
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: and fun. I was on a federal jury duty once
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: and it wasn't fun at all and it was actually
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: really boring.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Oh I got called for one and it was a
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: building bricks for flying every were killing people.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: No, this is the one that I got in. Was
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: just like this guy tried to rob a.
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: Parking garage and he took the attendant and he put
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: the attendant in the trunk of the car that he
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: stole and drove him across state lines.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: And that's why it was.
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: Federal Melissa, that is so interesting.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: It wasn't I mean, it wasn't it. I mean it wasn't. No,
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: it wasn't.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: You were like some guy got a free Uber, right, No,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: I mean it was.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: It was.
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: It was.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: It was the nine days before Uber. But it just
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: took forever, and I remember thinking, I really thought it
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: was gonna be more exciting, like.
- 1:16:41Speaker 7: That's so then that was because it was your hot
- 1:16:45Speaker 7: girl summer you were missing out on to deal with
- 1:16:47Speaker 7: this guy's trial.
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Okay, thank you so much for writing them. Please keep sending.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: You truly bring me so much joy and entertainment throughout
