- 0:05Speaker 1: You know, I thought that it was just amazing to
- 0:08Speaker 1: me the many people that I counsel who are Christians
- 0:12Speaker 1: who have been forgiven but find it difficult to forgive,
- 0:17Speaker 1: or find it difficult to forgive themselves. And then as
- 0:20Speaker 1: I begin to move amongst my secular friends, I found
- 0:22Speaker 1: that they had similar issues, whether professionally or personally or maritally,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and I thought, wow, this is a subject that is
- 0:30Speaker 1: under discussed, so I decided to write a book about it.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I think that you know that you have really forgiven
- 0:42Speaker 1: when it doesn't hurt anymore. It's like any other type
- 0:45Speaker 1: of healing that when I touch an area that was
- 0:48Speaker 1: sensitive and it is not sensitive anymore, it's not emotion
- 0:52Speaker 1: based anymore, then you have forgiven. If forgiveness is about
- 0:57Speaker 1: developing amnesia, will will never forget what happened as long
- 1:01Speaker 1: as we have our mental faculties in place. But forgiveness
- 1:05Speaker 1: is about your heart and bringing your heart out of
- 1:08Speaker 1: it where you refuse to continue to in passion where
- 1:11Speaker 1: you were or rather than to empower where you're going.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I think that not practicing forgiveness will terminate valuable relationships
- 1:25Speaker 1: that you could have, whether there are business relationships or
- 1:27Speaker 1: personal relationships. It will cause you to walk away from
- 1:31Speaker 1: people because they are flawed that are still gifted and valuable.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It will cause the deterioration of people that you really
- 1:38Speaker 1: need because you discover that there are human in some way,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and ultimately you turn that gun on yourself because people
- 1:45Speaker 1: who are very critical and judgmental of other people use
- 1:49Speaker 1: it at the canvas to paint their own low self esteem,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and ultimately they self destruct because they begin to treat
- 1:55Speaker 1: themselves the way they've treated other people. Forgiveness is a
- 1:58Speaker 1: gift you give yourself. Through it, you are able to
- 2:01Speaker 1: forgive other people as well.
