- 0:00Speaker 1: I want to talk a moment for just about the
- 0:02Speaker 1: passing of one of the great civil rights movement figures
- 0:07Speaker 1: in Reverend Jesse Jackson. Now, listen to me. It's not
- 0:12Speaker 1: that we were exceptionally close. It's not that we talked often.
- 0:17Speaker 1: It was none of that. It's just that I knew him,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and I knew him sometimes on a personal level. We
- 0:26Speaker 1: had many conversations about rights and movements and protesting, pushing
- 0:33Speaker 1: and all of these things. But we also had many
- 0:37Speaker 1: personal conversations. I remember the last time I really sat
- 0:40Speaker 1: down and talked with him. We were at a gem
- 0:42Speaker 1: in Chicago together when I was living in Chicago, and
- 0:45Speaker 1: he walked up to me. I was in the weight room,
- 0:48Speaker 1: and we sat down and we had a conversation. So
- 0:51Speaker 1: I'm not saying that Jesse Jackson and I were close.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You know how a lot of people when somebody passes
- 0:56Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, they talk about how close
- 0:58Speaker 1: they were in friends. That wasn't the case. But I
- 1:01Speaker 1: knew him, and I've known him for a long time,
- 1:07Speaker 1: a long long time. I've set in meetings with him,
- 1:11Speaker 1: I've been in protest with him, I've still shoulders to
- 1:15Speaker 1: shoulder with him before I learned from him. I watched him. Now,
- 1:22Speaker 1: look in these days and times, we have a system
- 1:28Speaker 1: that's set up now where we always try to find
- 1:31Speaker 1: what's wrong with a person, and you know, instead of
- 1:34Speaker 1: just talking about their accolades and what they accomplished. So
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'll let them trollers say whatever they want to say,
- 1:41Speaker 1: but let me tell y'all something. In his prime, Jesse
- 1:44Speaker 1: Jackson was a bad man. Jesse Jackson made an impact
- 1:50Speaker 1: on the movement. Jesse Jackson was at the forefront of
- 1:55Speaker 1: so many things, trying to push the policies and the
- 2:00Speaker 1: agenda of black people forward. He was with Al Sharpton
- 2:05Speaker 1: many times, he was with doctor King, that's how far
- 2:11Speaker 1: back he goes. He was with Abernathy. I've seen him
- 2:18Speaker 1: with some of the top black leaders out there, Andrew,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Andrew Young, everybody. I've watched this man and he was effective.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And I think I said this earlier, but the speech
- 2:35Speaker 1: he gave at the eighty four Democratic Convention was one
- 2:40Speaker 1: of the greatest speeches ever given at a political convention anywhere.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Had he given that speech early on, that man could
- 2:50Speaker 1: have ran for president. He was that great of an orator.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But man, he was just there. Now listen, everybody make mistakes.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure when my life is over, ah, people
- 3:11Speaker 1: can go down through a list of mistakes I made.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I could actually do it for you. I could actually
- 3:17Speaker 1: do it for you to save you the time. But
- 3:23Speaker 1: you know what, who hasn't who hasn't made mistakes? Which
- 3:30Speaker 1: one of you? Which one of you with the rock
- 3:34Speaker 1: cocked back in your hand before you throw it? Which
- 3:39Speaker 1: one of you ain't made the mistakes? And so in
- 3:45Speaker 1: my closing, I just want to say thank you to
- 3:49Speaker 1: Revend Jackson for all that he accomplished with Rainbow Push
- 3:54Speaker 1: the movement, with all of the protests he organized, with
- 3:59Speaker 1: all the meetings. This dude had a global impact. Do
- 4:05Speaker 1: you know that Jesse Jackson could go get hostages out
- 4:08Speaker 1: when they wouldn't even listen to them white presidents? Do
- 4:11Speaker 1: you know they would listen to this black man? Do
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know that Jesse Jackson could go over there? Let me,
- 4:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you right now, right now, there's a
- 4:21Speaker 1: music producer right now that is at home because of
- 4:26Speaker 1: Jesse Jackson, because he took hisself overseas, got involved in
- 4:34Speaker 1: some drugs in the country that don't play that, and
- 4:36Speaker 1: they had him Jesse Jackson went and got it. I
- 4:39Speaker 1: can't tell you the hostages this man. I wish I
- 4:42Speaker 1: could think of the names of all of it. But
- 4:45Speaker 1: Jesse Jackson was a hostage negotiate, negotiator for the families,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and he went on behalf of the United States, whether
- 4:52Speaker 1: they asked him to or not, and he got it done.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I ain't seen Jesse go over there and not come
- 4:59Speaker 1: back with a person yet. He was effective, y'all. And
- 5:04Speaker 1: for those young people that never knew who he was
- 5:06Speaker 1: and never got to experienced some of the great movements
- 5:10Speaker 1: he was involved in. You know, look, you got Google.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You count on that so much. You know, just google
- 5:19Speaker 1: the man. Google the great accomplishments of Jesse Jackson and
- 5:24Speaker 1: you gonna see how long that page is. But Jesse Jackson, man,
- 5:30Speaker 1: he deserves the honor, I think. Let me see. No,
- 5:34Speaker 1: the last time I talked to Jesse was actually with
- 5:37Speaker 1: our dear friend's funeral, Greg Calhoun passed in Montgomery, Alabama.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Do you know Jesse Jackson came to that funeral because
- 5:46Speaker 1: my buddy Greg Calhoun used to actually work for Jesse Jackson.
- 5:50Speaker 1: And that's actually the last time I talked to Jesse
- 5:52Speaker 1: was at Greg Calhoun's funeral down in Montgomery, Alabama. Man,
- 5:58Speaker 1: that's the last time I talked to Jesse. Just a
- 6:02Speaker 1: good dude. Man. He was a great man. He was
- 6:05Speaker 1: effective in the civil rights movement. And if you want
- 6:09Speaker 1: to say something about Jesse Jackson, say that because Jesse
- 6:13Speaker 1: Jackson was a great brother. Man. Condolences goes out to
- 6:17Speaker 1: the whole Jackson family and everybody rainbow pushing all of
- 6:20Speaker 1: that man and just everybody didn't do it. Man, Hey,
- 6:24Speaker 1: y'all have a great day today. Talk to God. He'd
- 6:26Speaker 1: absolutely loved to hear from you here. All right, do that, y'all,
