Transcript
- 0:00Cameron will tell me the truth. If these are not good, then he
- 0:02will let me know. So I sent them all to Cameron
- 0:05and he got back to me and said he thought they were great and
- 0:07we should do an album. So that's that's the whole
- 0:09genesis of everything. Well, to me, the genesis is
- 0:11this, this, this whole thing was is Randy's solo record, 100%
- 0:16solo, solo, solo, solo. And all of a sudden we finished
- 0:18this darn thing. And then Randy's like, well,
- 0:21looks like you're playing bass in this band.
- 0:22I'm like, what? No, I'm not playing bass in this
- 0:24band. He's like, yeah, you are.
- 0:25I'm like, all right, let's do it.
- 0:26And it's just slowly, like grown to like become more of a band
- 0:30and less this solo project. And it's like whenever there's a
- 0:33decision to make, Randy goes, hey, camera, what do you think?
- 0:35And I'll be like, well, I think you should do this, this and
- 0:37this and this. And Randy goes, that sounds good
- 0:39to me. Let's go.
- 0:40So it's become a big collaboration with us, which is
- 0:43fun. What's up
- 0:50everybodyitskefi@ghostcultmag.com I am super stoked today be
- 0:54joined by Randy and Cameron of 84 Days.
- 0:57You know their work from other bands, but how are you guys
- 0:59doing today? We're doing awesome.
- 1:01Great to be here. Yeah.
- 1:02Thank you for having us. It's always like Bull Durham,
- 1:06right? New clue.
- 1:07She has to get the like the right answers right for the
- 1:10press because starts out mad awkward and then after like
- 1:14years of doing a million of these.
- 1:16That's so funny because we talk about that like Cameron would be
- 1:20like, what are you trying to say there?
- 1:21I'm like, it's like trying to find your way home through a
- 1:23field, you know, for the first time, you, you, you finally
- 1:26navigate it. And because there's so many
- 1:28different things that I want to say, like when we talk about
- 1:31stuff, it's like, but what's really important and what do
- 1:33people, what are people interested in so.
- 1:35I always talk about how like, if you were to give me a script or
- 1:37something to read, I would be like Ron Burgundy.
- 1:39I'll read whatever you put on that damn piece of paper and I
- 1:42don't even know what I'm saying. So I'm dangerous with that.
- 1:44Same. With us, man, same with us.
- 1:46That's I, I have sort of a script.
- 1:49I write questions and I have notes and I listen to music and
- 1:54then I do these things and I don't know if it goes out the
- 1:56window or not, but I'm happy to be here with y'all today.
- 1:58So this is a super interesting group, right?
- 2:00You know, Randy, you're hella busy.
- 2:02Cameron, you're hella busy. How do we get this 84 days ban
- 2:05Randy? OK, Well, I had just, I had
- 2:09written a bunch of songs. I, I got back to writing, I took
- 2:12a few years off and I tried to just write some songs for myself
- 2:16and I didn't, I didn't really, I wasn't writing for Pennywise and
- 2:19wasn't writing for anything. I just wanted to get in the
- 2:21studio and have some fun and just write things that I thought
- 2:24were good. But also I tried to like, you
- 2:26know, tap into some type of, you know, you hear about artists.
- 2:30Like I saw this interview with Bob Dylan where he was like, he
- 2:32didn't know how he he wrote some of his best songs.
- 2:35And I was like, oh, I can relate to that because there's some
- 2:38songs that I've done that I feel like were the best I did.
- 2:40And I don't really know how I wrote them.
- 2:42They just kind of came to me. So I got in the studio, I tried
- 2:45to recreate that and I came up over like a year and a half
- 2:49period of time or whatever. I came up with like 20 songs and
- 2:52I didn't really plan on ever letting anyone hear them.
- 2:55But then I was kind of thinking I, I liked, I thought they were
- 2:58good. So, but I didn't know if it was
- 3:00just me. So I'm like, Cameron will tell
- 3:02me the truth. If these are not good, then he
- 3:04will let me know. So I sent them all to Cameron
- 3:06and he got back to me and said he thought they were great and
- 3:08we should do an album. So that's that's the whole
- 3:10genesis of everything. Well, to me, the genesis is
- 3:13this, this, this, this whole one thing was is Randy's solo
- 3:16record. 100% solo, solo, solo, solo.
- 3:18And all of a sudden we finished this darn thing.
- 3:20And then Randy's like, well, looks like you're playing bass
- 3:23in this band. I'm like, what?
- 3:24No, I'm not playing bass in this band.
- 3:25He's like, yeah, you are. I'm like, all right, let's do
- 3:27it. And it's just slowly, like grown
- 3:29to like become more of a band and less this solo project.
- 3:32And it's like whenever there's a decision to make, Randy goes,
- 3:35hey, Cameron, what do you think? And I'm be like, well, I think
- 3:38you should do this, this and this and this.
- 3:39And Randy goes, that sounds good to me.
- 3:40Let's go. So it's become a big
- 3:42collaboration with us. This is fun.
- 3:44That's so. Awesome.
- 3:45I feel like if Randy told me I'm playing bass on this next thing
- 3:48I'd be do it. I'll do it.
- 3:50I haven't. I haven't picked up the bass in
- 3:52a minute, but I would do it if Randy said so because, you know,
- 3:54I just feel like that compelling, my dude.
- 3:57And then you got Adrian Young to come in and and do some drums.
- 4:01That's pretty. Cool.
- 4:01So Adrian is a friend of Randy. He's a friend of mine.
- 4:03And Randy just called him up and said, hey, would you be
- 4:07interested in playing on this record?
- 4:08He says, yeah, I don't. I don't need to be in another
- 4:10band, but I'd love to play on your album.
- 4:11Send him over. So he sent songs over, he
- 4:13learned, we rehearsed a little bit and he just he killed it and
- 4:17he came in the studio and we like beat him up.
- 4:19Hey, try this, try that, be free, do this and that.
- 4:22So we like did a very like, we hope he had the experience that
- 4:25we had him. He was him stoked when he walked
- 4:27out the door and he's just a he's a great dude overall.
- 4:30Yeah, he really played the he played the songs like the way
- 4:34that I would hope that I didn't even know because he added so
- 4:37many cool little things and him and Cameron really worked and
- 4:40fleshed things out and it I'm just super happy with how how it
- 4:43came out and how well he did. These original demos, Randy was
- 4:47playing everything. He was playing drums, bass,
- 4:48guitar, singing, doing absolutely everything.
- 4:51So to me it was like just trying to interpret what Randy did, but
- 4:55but taking a step a notch up with like a a more serious
- 4:58drummer basically. Not that Randy's not a great
- 5:00drummer. Right on.
- 5:03I love that. And yeah, you know, sometimes
- 5:05the demo work is so good that, you know, I still think pre
- 5:08production is important, but you know, the demo work is so good.
- 5:11It's just like, hey, we can't improve on this.
- 5:13Sometimes you get there, the first take is sometimes the
- 5:16best. We had that three strike rule in
- 5:19my day where it was like, if you can't get it in three takes, you
- 5:21can't get it right now, come back later, come back later.
- 5:25Yeah, so killer and it's such a killer record, man.
- 5:28I I feel like I've been a little I've I've tried to push this
- 5:32narrative a little bit that I want to see more rebellion and
- 5:36discourse and all the D words dissent from my music right now.
- 5:42We're in such a fuck time politically doesn't matter about
- 5:45party. We're just in a in one of the
- 5:47most perilous times for just a human life, let alone America.
- 5:52So I love, don't trust the government man.
- 5:54I love the general kick ass vibe of this record.
- 5:56Thank you. Yeah, I, I feel like, you know,
- 5:59I was thinking about it and I, I love, I'm a sucker for a
- 6:03rebellion or revolution or something.
- 6:05I want to, I always want to feel like, or trying to make things
- 6:08better and. And you look around and it's
- 6:10like, well, it's easy to see how things aren't perfect.
- 6:13And so I even feel like doing this just kind of mid tempo
- 6:18rock. Like I look at that as as a
- 6:20rebellion again, you know, it's like, what am I expected to do?
- 6:24Well, I'm not doing that. And and, and I and I and I write
- 6:28songs like that all the time. And it feels just kind of, you
- 6:32know, not to keep repeating that, but it's, it feels like a
- 6:35rebellion or something like that.
- 6:37And, and also, yeah, like you said, like as far as don't trust
- 6:42the government, I feel like we're just caught in this, this
- 6:45continual trap, this cycle of like, Oh well, you know, we
- 6:48don't like what's happening right now, but these next guys
- 6:51will save us. And then they get in and, and
- 6:54everyone's hopeful and then they don't, they don't save you.
- 6:56It's still the same games running around and it's and it's
- 6:59people with money and power making more money and power, you
- 7:03know, and then telling more lies.
- 7:05So yeah, it's basically the sentiment of a lot of it, but.
- 7:09Right on Speak that truth. We need that.
- 7:10We need that. We need to educate ourselves and
- 7:12everybody else. A lot of change begins at the
- 7:16local level with your community. Start there and we'll figure out
- 7:19the rest. But take care.
- 7:21You know, I tell all my friends, like, just make sure you're OK.
- 7:24Nobody is OK, but make sure you're OK.
- 7:26And then we'll get through this. Yeah.
- 7:28But yeah, what a good time for this kick ass record, was it?
- 7:32You know, obviously you wrote this batch of songs, which
- 7:34sounds very prolific from that process standpoint.
- 7:37But did you get to a point where you were like, OK, these don't,
- 7:40you know, like this is for me and none of these I would hold
- 7:43back for Pennywise to bring to the band.
- 7:45Or is just, you know, just not a thing for you.
- 7:49Like when I write, when you got into this writing fit for
- 7:52yourself and it was all for you? Or did you like?
- 7:54OK, these sound like something. Different when he brought it to
- 7:57me. And the Cameron, Yeah.
- 7:58Yeah, and I was just like, OK, if this is a Pennywise song, I
- 8:01don't want to touch it. Throw it out, throw it out,
- 8:03throw it out. What are you talking about,
- 8:04Cameron? They're good.
- 8:05I'm like, I don't care if they're good.
- 8:06Save them for your your band, your full time band that you
- 8:08make a living on, that your career is on.
- 8:10Like let's do stuff that's Randy, stuff that that they
- 8:13wouldn't care about and they wouldn't want it for their band.
- 8:16So I said, Randy, what what else do you have?
- 8:18And he just kept sending it to me and we peel a couple away and
- 8:20then say, OK, you have like 11 great song to you.
- 8:23Let's just record these. Let's find someone to help us.
- 8:26And then Randy reaches out to Jeff at Helix Record, Double
- 8:29Helix. And Jeff's and Jeff and Emily
- 8:31are awesome. They're like, we love this, we
- 8:32want to release this. We want to give you money to
- 8:34make a record. And we're like, let's do it now.
- 8:36They want to promote it, they want to market it.
- 8:38They want to make shirts, they want to do all this stuff.
- 8:40And you're like, wait a second, is this for real?
- 8:43And they're the nicest people in the world as well.
- 8:45So we've had a great experience having someone because guess
- 8:48what, we're like making the music, we're creating the music,
- 8:51we're recording the music, but we're not good at marketing it
- 8:53and promoting it and and getting on podcasts and stuff like that.
- 8:57That's why these Double Helix has been so important to us.
- 9:00Rad I'm such a big fan of that label.
- 9:02People who watch their channel know we've interviewed several
- 9:05of the artists over the times, including the East Bay Punk band
- 9:08testing the details. Huge fan from when they first
- 9:11started. Great label to be on that seemed
- 9:14very artist forward, which is so rare these days.
- 9:18And it is it you know, you guys know how to make a record and
- 9:21you've had success in the business and you know what it
- 9:23takes, which is helpful. A lot of people don't when
- 9:27they're starting out. And the other problem is the the
- 9:30old ways don't really the old music industry is kind of dead.
- 9:34The music industry is not dead. It's still the music business,
- 9:37but it's it's not what it was right?
- 9:39It's a different animal. So if you're going to do
- 9:41something, you want to take the range yourself and trust who
- 9:44your partners are more than ever, right?
- 9:46Yeah. And and that's the thing about
- 9:48Double Helix was that we had talked and we were trying to
- 9:51figure out how we were going to structure everything.
- 9:54And I just, you know, we were talking about maybe having the
- 9:58ability to make records later and I told them, I said, I have
- 10:01no interest in making records. I have a passion for making
- 10:04music. They have a, the, the thing
- 10:06that's great about them is they have a passion for doing records
- 10:10and for having, for having a label, for running a label.
- 10:12And it's like they really love doing it.
- 10:14So the, the match is so, so cool and so perfect.
- 10:20And I feel so lucky to be involved with them because
- 10:23they're just above and beyond and you know, and all this stuff
- 10:27is happening just being involved with Cameron and being involved
- 10:29with with Adrian. And now Adrian had was never
- 10:32going to play live. But but but now we have Ericsson
- 10:35and from no no effects. And so all these all these
- 10:39serendipitous things, it's kind of seems like a big thing that's
- 10:42or big theme that's happened around this whole thing is like
- 10:45things have coincidentally come together.
- 10:48So I try to go with that and and so, yeah, so I just feel like it
- 10:53was meant to be that we're at double Helix and and nothing,
- 10:57you know, knock on wood, nothing has proved that to be wrong, you
- 11:00know? Killer.
- 11:01It sounds like it's kind of more like a family thing and friends
- 11:04thing, which is the best part. Cameron, I know that you are a
- 11:07very collaborative person for the studio for albums.
- 11:10And you know, I know you take a little bit of ownership on
- 11:13things you work on, but did it feel like a little more of a
- 11:15stake in this project because you've been working so closely
- 11:18with Randy? I mean, I put so much ownership
- 11:20into every project to do everything, whether there's
- 11:22money or no money. I put my all my efforts in and I
- 11:25want them all to be successful. And like, this is, I mean,
- 11:29here's the thing, Randy came to me and I said, well, guess what?
- 11:32How are we going to practice this without a bass player?
- 11:34So I learned every single song. And I said, Randy, let's let's
- 11:37play this as a team, not just you and Adrian.
- 11:40And Randy was super excited and was like, yeah, let's go to my
- 11:43place, let's rehearse. So yes, like from the beginning
- 11:46I was like, I want to be involved and I want to make this
- 11:48thing as great as possible. And then just throughout the
- 11:51whole process, like we all have a lot at stake here.
- 11:54And let's just let's just keep it going.
- 11:56And then Randy says, hey, you're in the band.
- 11:58I'm like, all right, let's do it.
- 12:00And it's just, it just keeps growing and growing and, and,
- 12:03and the relationships and friendships like we're we're
- 12:06doing positive. Randy is a positive person.
- 12:08I'm positive. And then Smelly comes in and and
- 12:10he's like, yeah, this sounds like fun.
- 12:11Let's do this too. And so you just, you just throw
- 12:14it all out there. You just got to try and you
- 12:16never know what's going to happen.
- 12:17It kind of just made sense that when first of all, it, it didn't
- 12:22ever feel right that I was going to be a solo artist like Randy
- 12:26Bradbury. And also I found that I really
- 12:30need someone that I trust their opinion to be able to throw my
- 12:34ideas against because that's why I was sitting all the on all
- 12:36these songs. I'm like, I don't know if
- 12:38they're good or if they're not so.
- 12:40So Cameron is really good for that for, for positive feedback
- 12:44or constructive criticism and things like that.
- 12:47So, and he can play bass. He's, he's good and he's, and
- 12:51he's quick, quick learn or like, you know, he caught up really
- 12:54quick and he sounds great. So I knew that was going to work
- 12:58out. And so it just seemed like when,
- 13:00when you combine everyone together and you take everyone's
- 13:02special talents and all that stuff, now you have something
- 13:05that's just, it's, it's not just 1 + 1 = 2.
- 13:08It's like 1 + 1 equals, you know, 25.
- 13:11And then you throw Eric in there and it's so it's just better
- 13:14having be in a collaboration and having it be a band and it.
- 13:19It's fun too with Randy, because Randy's now playing guitar and
- 13:22you'd be like, oh man, Randy's playing guitar.
- 13:23It's like, no, Randy's been playing guitar for years.
- 13:26He just wasn't playing it on stage.
- 13:28And so when we go to rehearsal, he knows all his parts.
- 13:30He's got him down. Like it's just I, I often think
- 13:33like, wait, is he going to screw up this part?
- 13:35It's like, Nope, he knows what song we're on and he just goes
- 13:38for it. I'm like, that's good.
- 13:40Every bass player's secret. Yeah, every bass player secretly
- 13:43plays guitar. Nobody knows that's our secret.
- 13:45Like that's that's the Superman. We had the S under our under our
- 13:50our shirt, our treasure. Is there a significance, Randy?
- 13:53About 84 days. The name because I thought it
- 13:55was so interesting and you know, kind of out-of-the-box a little
- 13:59well it. Actually it, it stemmed from
- 14:02like an inside joke from way back in high school that, that
- 14:05just always stuck around. But it seemed relevant now
- 14:10because I, the book 1984 really made an impression on me when,
- 14:16when I read it when I was younger and I, and I look back
- 14:18and I'm like, I, I never looked at the world the same after I
- 14:21read that book. So a lot of times things are
- 14:24framed in that, that kind of Orwellian dystopian kind of
- 14:28framework. But it's, it's easy and then it
- 14:31makes it easy to, to see what's going on.
- 14:33So it just kind of made sense, like some of the themes of the
- 14:37songs fit into that. And so when we talked about
- 14:40names, that just was like, it just seemed like would work.
- 14:43And you know, what's in a name anyways?
- 14:45It's I think about names forever.
- 14:47It's hard to to know to take a name without the band and go,
- 14:51oh, that's a good name. Like what makes Aerosmith a good
- 14:54name? What makes The Who a good name?
- 14:57Led Zeppelin, you know, So I mean, I think Metallica sounds
- 15:00cool. I said that to my friend the
- 15:01other day and he goes, I used to hate that, the name of that
- 15:03band. So, you know, I really think.
- 15:06I think that time makes a name, good or bad, and the music that
- 15:09backs it, and that's what it is. Like, some of these names are
- 15:11silly if you really break them down.
- 15:12But like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, man, they're a great
- 15:15band. Like, what?
- 15:16Wait, if you just brought that to someone, like, hey, that's
- 15:18her name. It'll be like, what?
- 15:19What's going on here? Like just time.
- 15:21Cameron would want to sort it. It's shortening.
- 15:23If I brought in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he'd say let's
- 15:27just be called the Red Hots. I would.
- 15:30Or the OR. Now we just shorten everything.
- 15:33Chili Peppers. It's just the Chili Peppers.
- 15:34All the chilies. Everybody knows if it's the
- 15:37chilies. You know who it is.
- 15:38It's that exactly. A restaurant with decent
- 15:41mozzarella sticks. Oh, yeah.
- 15:43You know. And super nachos, those are good
- 15:46too. That's about what they've got
- 15:47going for them. I'm so, I'm so cool.
- 15:51So glad to hear that. Skinnies involved too.
- 15:55We need, you know, anybody that's in a band that's hanging
- 15:58it up. We need to find jobs, like a job
- 16:00market pool for everybody that's now, you know, chilling at home
- 16:04or working on other stuff and not out on the road.
- 16:06So that's super fun. That's so fun.
- 16:09Cameron, when's the last time you played on stage, if ever?
- 16:12Come on, that's not fair. That's not fair.
- 16:14I know last time I played was on stage was with Urethane, a band
- 16:18that I work with, with Steve Cavallaro.
- 16:20And we did this Vans event a year ago and they're like, hey,
- 16:23do you guys, do you know anything?
- 16:25Anything by Dorama Rama? I'm like, yeah, I'll learn it
- 16:28right now. And I went on stage and The
- 16:30funny thing is the promoter of the whole event looked on stage.
- 16:32He goes, what's Cameron do? They're supposed to be running
- 16:34sound. And he goes, oh wow, look at him
- 16:37and he's playing the bass behind his back.
- 16:39And then he came up after me after he goes Cameron, I didn't
- 16:42know you could play bass. This is such an amazing thing.
- 16:44So like, you know what, I've always been involved.
- 16:46I've always been taking instruments from people.
- 16:49I've always, I mean, I grew up all through high school and
- 16:52college and like just playing in bands, playing in shows and like
- 16:55I've been involved so much. I've been on stage 5000 times.
- 16:59Like I get it and, and I see other people play and I go,
- 17:02listen, my standards are really, really high.
- 17:05So I want to play great. I want to do great.
- 17:07So I'm, I rehearse, I, I practice and it's just like, it
- 17:10doesn't just like, hey, I pick up this thing and we're good.
- 17:12It's like, no, it just takes time and lots of effort.
- 17:14And luckily, Randy's patient and Smelly's patient and we just, we
- 17:18work together as a team to become this like ball of energy.
- 17:21But Cameron also, he played some, he played on the song
- 17:25Don't Trust the Government on the record.
- 17:27Yeah, base on that. And then also there was a few
- 17:30parts on like never find the righteous.
- 17:32He had a the way I was doing something.
- 17:35He was like, do it like this, it'll sound cooler.
- 17:37And I'm like, I don't, I can't do it the way you're doing it.
- 17:40So he, he, he did some parts and we're passing the guitar back
- 17:44and forth and we're, you know, doing things so, so that he, he
- 17:47can play definitely so. It's fun.
- 17:50We have this process where like, if he's playing something and
- 17:53I've got the idea, I'll be like, give me the guitar, bass.
- 17:55And I would literally take it. And then Andy would turn around
- 17:58behind me and go over here to the computer and say, OK, I'm
- 18:00going to hit record. I'm like, wait, no, no, I'm just
- 18:02teaching you the part. You'd be like, too bad.
- 18:04Now we're rolling. And that's how.
- 18:06We do it. And it was OK to hand it over.
- 18:09Yeah, yeah, it doesn't matter. We're getting, we're getting,
- 18:12it's a collaboration, it's a project.
- 18:14We're getting that like the overall vision out.
- 18:16But I would say when he would do that, that he's steamrolling
- 18:19because he goes into steamroller mode where it's like you better
- 18:22come up, you better come up with something now or else I will.
- 18:25Because he got a million ideas and he's, you know, constantly
- 18:27he's a pro. So you you really have to be on
- 18:31your toes when you're working with Cameron, but in a good way.
- 18:33Yeah, yeah, right on. He he, he went into Ken mode and
- 18:36he hooked you. That's how he hooked you.
- 18:38He's like, let's trade this, this, let's trade back and
- 18:40forth. And that's how he got.
- 18:42Right. He sucked in.
- 18:44It was his his master plan. Into the vortex Let's talk for a
- 18:49quick second about the Mockingbird Brains video.
- 18:51I got like definite Vince Gilligan Breaking Bad vibes.
- 18:55I It's the desert. I love that vibe but also like
- 18:57what a killer song to kick off the record and also for a real
- 19:01one of the better songs for a video I think you got here.
- 19:04I think that that video was fun because like I've said before,
- 19:07it's like I didn't want a performance video.
- 19:09I think those are kind of boring.
- 19:11And it's like, so let's tell a story, let's have some sort of
- 19:13storyline and you don't have to be obvious and point everything
- 19:16directly. But like what if it's kind of
- 19:18like a trailer of something to come?
- 19:20Like what if there's more videos that follow this storyline or
- 19:23maybe it becomes a wider thing. So like I bringing back
- 19:26references, that's insane. Like that's one of the greatest
- 19:29shows ever. So it's like, but but there's
- 19:31these characters that we built and the girl in the cage and
- 19:34like there's like interesting things about it that I think
- 19:37could be used like later on. So I think the ultimate goal is
- 19:39like, hey, here's this like storyline or this thing and and
- 19:43you can interpret how you feel, but then maybe we elaborate
- 19:46along. Maybe there's another video that
- 19:47takes it somewhere else, or you never know what's going to
- 19:50happen. Right on.
- 19:51I love that so much. I know we have these big shows
- 19:53at the end of the year. Is this a band that can never do
- 19:56a tour or you think you could jump on with a bigger band and
- 19:58do a run of dates? Or do you think this is just
- 20:01going to be little special 1 offs and and weekends?
- 20:03Well, I think we'd like to do as much as we can around the
- 20:07commitments that we already have.
- 20:09And we, we, we seem to have like if we, if we schedule things
- 20:12right, there's plenty of time to do plenty of stuff.
- 20:15So I don't think that I want to put any limitations on anything.
- 20:19I'm down for whatever makes sense and sounds sounds like a a
- 20:25good thing to do. And it was great because like, I
- 20:27mean, we're calling her our first show, but we were hanging
- 20:30out with the Vandals and they're like, why don't you open up
- 20:32these Christmas shows? And we're like, OK, let's do it.
- 20:35So it was like it basically launched us in the all right,
- 20:37let's be ready for shows. And when more opportunities
- 20:41present themselves, we're going to grab those things.
- 20:43And yeah, we're busy, but you know what I mean?
- 20:45We love it. This is fun.
- 20:46We're having a good time. And we're lucky that the Vandals
- 20:50have had these relationships with Randy forever, more so than
- 20:53me. But then I've been watching this
- 20:55band forever as well, and I support support them and they
- 20:58support us. And it's just, it's a cool
- 20:59community of people. So we're just, if we get good
- 21:03opportunities, we're going to take them.
- 21:04We'll run with it. I love that so much.
- 21:06What? Let's just reflect for a second
- 21:08on what a great year this has been for punk rock.
- 21:10We have like, new bands carrying that torch forward.
- 21:13Vandals are still playing shows. You know we had Keith's 70th
- 21:17birthday, right? Like, circle jokes are still
- 21:19around Penny wise, you know, all the punk in the parks.
- 21:22Like such a good year for punk rock and I and I feel like this
- 21:26is such a good record and a good band to come along at this time.
- 21:29Like just one more thing. We need one more smoke.
- 21:32We need, you know, holding the fence up.
- 21:33Yeah, thank you very much. It does feel good.
- 21:36You know, I've always, I never saw it lasting this long, but
- 21:41there's so much genuine, you know, genuineness in people.
- 21:46People most, you know, the whole scene is just filled with people
- 21:50that want to just be part of it and want to play music and want
- 21:53to create. And so there's a lot of, you
- 21:56know, just good positive energy. And I think, you know, that's
- 21:59why people are attracted to him. And and so that's why it's had
- 22:04such longevity and it's still. I think what's amazing too is
- 22:07you bring up the Warp Tour, Punk in the Park Punk and Drub Lick
- 22:10and they're punk oriented festivals that have helped
- 22:14support bands. So bands aren't having to play a
- 22:16show for 500 people. They play it for 10,000 people
- 22:19because we've piled in all these punk bands together and said,
- 22:21Hey, here's this tour of, of all these rad bands.
- 22:24And I mean, starting with the Warp tour, it's like they've,
- 22:27they've helped punk rock so much.
- 22:30And it's like we appreciate those, those, those festivals
- 22:32and those concerts. And it's like for them to, to
- 22:34pay their artists and also just have an Ave. for people that
- 22:37aren't just small clubs. We're we're lucky to have that.
- 22:41You're on. You're on mute.
- 22:42I muted myself because I don't know what I'm doing.
- 22:45Only only a sip of coffee today and I don't know what I'm doing.
- 22:49I was going to say just an extra plug for brouhaha.
- 22:52We're doing Punk Christmas in Arizona also, so with MXPX also
- 22:56still around and always killer. So what a fun time.
- 22:59I'd love to catch up with both you guys down the road, Randy,
- 23:02to talk about anything. Cameron, of course, I'd love to
- 23:04pick your brain about production and stuff like that down the
- 23:07road and records you worked on. But I always like to end these
- 23:09with a wild card question. So the wild card question I have
- 23:12for you, which is a unique one in this case, which is what is
- 23:14the favorite thing record or anything you've ever worked on?
- 23:19I'll start, Randy. Oh well, I mean, I would have to
- 23:21say that that the Pennywise Full Circle album that was we were
- 23:26firing on all cylinders. We there was a lot of emotion
- 23:31happening. We were we were at a peak for
- 23:34sure, and and a physical peak like a playability and and just
- 23:38man that that whole album came together and just, you know,
- 23:43it's just on fire. So, so that, that's probably
- 23:46would that be it full circle. Right on.
- 23:49What about you? I mean, I've, I've been involved
- 23:51in a lot of cool records. I love the Social Distortion
- 23:54record. I got the Purdue.
- 23:56Am I muted? Am I good?
- 23:57OK. Social Distortion, Sex Love and
- 23:59Rock'n'roll was an amazing record to do with Mike Ness.
- 24:02But all the Motörhead records I did, we're all very special.
- 24:05And I was lucky to be a part of something and I was lucky for
- 24:08them to listen to me like Randy does.
- 24:09I would have Lemmy doing exactly what I do with Lemmy.
- 24:12Like we'd known each other forever.
- 24:13So like those kind of opportunities are a pretty rare
- 24:17and they're they're amazing. And I always worked hard just
- 24:19like Randy. I'm not scared of Randy.
- 24:21He's not scared of me and that's how you have to treat every
- 24:23artist you work with. Right on Mikey had great things
- 24:26to say about you when I interviewed him and I brought up
- 24:28the cut the relationship there. So yeah, man, like we're losing
- 24:32some of our heroes. But I'm super glad to talk to
- 24:34the two of you today and thank you so much for this 84 days
- 24:37record coming out on double Helix record sometime.
- 24:41This interview will run sometime after, but thanks so much for
- 24:43hanging out with me today. It was.
- 24:44Thank you so much, Keith. It was awesome.
- 24:45Great. Thank you very much.
- 24:46Meet you, we'll see you again.
