- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Sick Geek. This is episode 423.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Cord, and I'm here with my Co host,
- 0:23Nate Reyes. Goodnight.
- 0:28Hello, Happy. Middle of the week Slash end of
- 0:35the week. I know I like your ideology
- 0:39where if you're listening to this on Thursday, that's
- 0:43basically the weekend cause Friday doesn't even really
- 0:45count. You know what I mean?
- 0:46Like everyone knows, you're not really working.
- 0:49Look, if there was one, if there's been one thing of the
- 0:54life of this podcast that I have truly tried to adopt into my
- 0:58life, it's the way of thinking that Thursday is basically
- 1:03Friday, which means it's basically the end of the week.
- 1:06There you go. That is the key to having three
- 1:08day weekends every week. Die on that hill, my friend.
- 1:13Die gladly. Yeah.
- 1:15And if you're listening on Friday, hello.
- 1:18It's a bonus. I'm a little late to the party,
- 1:22but I mean, we're glad you're here.
- 1:24We're glad you're listening. Speaking of being glad we're
- 1:28here. We're glad Jackson Holiday is
- 1:33here. It is the Jackson Holiday era,
- 1:35officially. Hate to rain on the parade a
- 1:38little bit, but the Sox didn't really.
- 1:42Care how much? They didn't really care, they
- 1:45said. Oh, this Jackson Holiday kids
- 1:47coming up. Would be a shame if he went over
- 1:50three to start the game. We're currently recording during
- 1:53the Sox OS game as as we speak so it's possible maybe he gets
- 1:59another AB. In fact I think at this point
- 2:01it's it's most definitely possible so we'll get to that
- 2:09when it when it rises. But as of right now, O for
- 2:12three, he's got an RBI to his name, but a rather uneventful
- 2:18debut. But not to take away from the
- 2:20excitement that Orioles fans have been experiencing for the
- 2:24last 24 hours. Man, it has been.
- 2:26It has been quite, quite a whirlwind and I say Orioles fans
- 2:29really baseball fans general. I think this has been one of the
- 2:32most hyped prospect call UPS since what Bryce Harper possibly
- 2:42in term in terms of league wide impact, Yeah, I mean you've got
- 2:49you've got previous top prospect call UPS that have have sparked
- 2:53some excitements in amongst fan bases, amongst cities, amongst
- 2:57regions even. But in terms of like nationwide
- 3:01feel, I mean, I I think the Jackson holiday has to be up
- 3:03there with like the Harpers, no. Well, I mean the the beauty of
- 3:09our generation is that we are now looping back to seeing the
- 3:14next generation crack in, right? Obviously we witnessed pretty
- 3:20much all of Matt Holiday's career.
- 3:22So being able to hear since like, I don't know, maybe he was
- 3:27like 1415 years old of like how good this kids gonna be.
- 3:33It's cool to see. It's super cool to see.
- 3:35It's like it's easy to root for, like even with us being, you
- 3:39know, fans of teams opposing them and arguably, you know,
- 3:43rivals in the division, it's like it's still, it's cool to
- 3:47see I, I'm a sucker for like generational torch passing in
- 3:52baseball. And what other organization
- 3:57knows that better than the the Baltimore Orioles, specifically
- 4:01referring to our good friends, family.
- 4:07I mean, there's there's a lot to cover there with all of what you
- 4:10just said, going back to your original point about us being
- 4:14aware of this name for a while. Did you by chance see Buster
- 4:19Only's tweet? I did.
- 4:21I did. I mean what Let let's let's call
- 4:25it Spade Spade. Buster only has had some misses
- 4:27over the years like he's he's put his foot in his mouth a time
- 4:30or two. But he absolutely shooter nailed
- 4:35nailed this He tweeted back on November 14th, 2013.
- 4:40So what a a decade ago, he said. Matt Holiday's son, future All
- 4:47Star hasn't scared us there yet. We.
- 4:51Don't know what son he's talking about.
- 4:52He could have been talking about the other one, 'cause there's
- 4:55another kid who's like, looking just as sweet.
- 4:59Ethan, I think, is his brother. His brother?
- 5:03No. Well, I I knew.
- 5:04I know. I think we know is Jackson, but.
- 5:06No, yeah, yeah. It's definitely, definitely
- 5:09Jackson. And the only reason we know that
- 5:10for sure is because I guess somebody dug this tweet up and
- 5:16it's been making its rounds. So I'm assuming he's getting all
- 5:18these notifications on Twitter and he's been going back and
- 5:22like letting people know he kept the receipts.
- 5:24He's like following up to people's replies on that tweet,
- 5:27which is very funny. It's very, it's very, very much
- 5:30something I would do if I I had a a shot like that, but.
- 5:34I follow this account on on Twitter.
- 5:37That's like the unfortunate tweets like before.
- 5:44Something like that. Really.
- 5:45Yeah. You know what I'm talking about?
- 5:46Like, it's like the split second of like a team putting out a
- 5:50tweet and then the next thing you know, it's like the total
- 5:52opposite. But yeah, I saw that.
- 5:54I love that. Good for Buster only, you know
- 5:56what I mean? Like, get yours, dawg.
- 5:59Get yours. Save those receipts.
- 6:02How about the videos of him like playing with Matt Holiday and
- 6:06Coors Field as a like a little guy he's like?
- 6:09You know, four or five years old little kid.
- 6:13Speaking of video, I did, I did have the the call up video
- 6:17queued up and I know everybody loves a good call up video.
- 6:20So in case you haven't caught that, I've got it queued up for
- 6:23us right here, Jax. What's up, man?
- 6:28First, I just want to commend you for have you gone about your
- 6:30business down here, dude? Like that's not easy to do.
- 6:33You kind of carry yourself with a chip on your shoulder.
- 6:35And I and I think these guys, they notice it.
- 6:38They they feed off of it. All right.
- 6:40So keep doing what you're doing, all right.
- 6:42It's just a matter of time. Just a matter of time.
- 6:45Has your has your dadman in town.
- 6:46I know they have come in shit, all right.
- 6:49My brother's right in the middle of.
- 6:51His season, He's in. His season.
- 6:52OK, so I mean, I he's probably a great resource for you, right?
- 6:57I'm sure that you guys are tight.
- 6:58He's giving you good advice and all those times that you've been
- 7:01in the locker room and stuff, you know how this goes.
- 7:03OK, so for tomorrow, trying to get guys out early first
- 7:08tonight, Tonight, I want you to call your dad.
- 7:11I want you to talk to him. And I want you to thank him for
- 7:14all the times that he's allowed you to come to the clubhouse, be
- 7:17on his past list, you know, let you hit with the big boys.
- 7:20That's that's pretty special. And it plays into a lot of what
- 7:23you're about. The second thing I want you to
- 7:25tell him is that now it's time for him to ask permission to be
- 7:29on Jackson holidays. Pass list 'cause you're on the
- 7:31big list. Awesome.
- 7:33Hell, yeah. All right.
- 7:33Awesome. I'm fired up.
- 7:35I'm fired up. You've been exceptional down
- 7:37here, brother to be 20 years old.
- 7:38I appreciate and handle all this stuff, dude.
- 7:41Thank you. All right.
- 7:42Congratulations. Thank you.
- 7:43Call your dad. You're welcome.
- 7:48My first, my first take away from that video and I know this
- 7:50sounds terrible like this should not have been my first take away
- 7:53but it almost sounded like his manager was about to bust out
- 7:56and I'm fired up. You fired up.
- 7:58Yeah I'm fired up. You fired up.
- 7:59Yeah. It's almost like he had to stop
- 8:01himself before he said it. But anyway it was I mean that's
- 8:05a that's a great that's a great call up video.
- 8:09I'm a sucker for anytime anytime old dad gets gets looped into it
- 8:15in some way or another. And in this specific example
- 8:21we're we're obviously talking Matt Holiday.
- 8:22But anytime you see these prospects getting caught up and
- 8:25it's like, hey, call your dad like or call your parents or
- 8:28whatever, I'm like. Yeah.
- 8:31There's there's never, there's never a dry eye after that.
- 8:34Yeah, I think it's cool. I I think The funny thing is, is
- 8:39that like I, you know, living in Colorado for so long, I got to
- 8:43watch Matt Holiday like on a regular basis.
- 8:46And I don't think people realize like how stoic that guy is.
- 8:50Like rarely do you get much out of him and you can tell it's
- 8:55it's it's passed down to Jackson, 'cause you can tell
- 8:59he's he's a little bit of the same.
- 9:00But the manager like to me brings up an excellent point of
- 9:04like, we'll get into the timing of the call up, but the fact
- 9:09that you're getting called up this quickly, a lot of it has to
- 9:16do with your your your makeup, right?
- 9:18A lot of it has to do with how you handle things, how you treat
- 9:23your work every day. Like all of us fans on the
- 9:28outside are like, what is, what are we waiting for for a lot of
- 9:30different prospects, right? Like, let's get him up here,
- 9:32let's get him up here. Sometimes there's just
- 9:35maturation process that needs to happen.
- 9:37Sometimes there's just growing up that needs to happen.
- 9:40Like these, these are kids you have to be like settle into
- 9:44being a young man. And so I think like he he brings
- 9:49up a good point for the way he's handled this stuff.
- 9:52It seems like he's he's checked every single box.
- 9:57I personally, I don't really understand the timing though I
- 10:00don't get the I don't get it. Why not break camp.
- 10:06It's before the service time deadline.
- 10:11Things are like, I'm just. I'm a little confused with the
- 10:14timing. I don't really.
- 10:14Yeah, so they're not my understanding, and I've I've had
- 10:19to confirm just to make sure I was.
- 10:21I was understanding it properly. My understanding is that they
- 10:24were not, not that they were setting out like on a mission
- 10:29to, but they were not able to successfully navigate the whole
- 10:34service manipulation time in that regard.
- 10:38They would have had to wait, I think.
- 10:41What like? It was like four or five days,
- 10:43right? Four or five days, Yeah, that's
- 10:44kind of what I was saying, Four or five days.
- 10:48So it it depends on what narrative you look at.
- 10:52Because if you're going with the narrative that, hey, this team
- 10:57really just cares about locking up another year, then it's like,
- 11:02well, they didn't do that. Then it's like, OK, well, if
- 11:05you're a believer that they, they took the route that they
- 11:08did because they truly believed that he wanted they that they
- 11:12believed in their hearts that they wanted him to get some ABS
- 11:16against lefties. Because apparently that was the
- 11:18big, the big thing coming out of camp.
- 11:22And it's like, OK, well, how many, how much experience, how
- 11:27many ABS did he get in that regard?
- 11:30Yeah, how many lefty lefty matchups did he?
- 11:32Really. It was maybe like it was maybe a
- 11:34dozen. Like you can't get that in like
- 11:38a side field while you're still in Spring, you know what I mean?
- 11:44Like I I just, that's what I'm saying.
- 11:46And like, that's the only part that bugs me, is that I just, I
- 11:50don't fully understand the timing.
- 11:54I don't fully agree with the fact that he didn't break camp.
- 12:00I don't agree with Tony Kemp being DFA D I've been texting
- 12:03the group chat with you, me and Ryan, and I'm like, why is Urea
- 12:07still in this picture, dude? Like what is this about?
- 12:11I don't think, but I don't think Tony Kemp even has a hit this
- 12:13year though. Yeah, but like the versatility
- 12:16defensively. I'm not saying like you got to
- 12:18DFA somebody, you got to clear a spot in some way.
- 12:20It just it was it was just strange for them to bring him in
- 12:25midway through spring, sign him, have him break camp with the big
- 12:32league roster and then like Jackson is just kind of like
- 12:35needing more ABS. The whole thing was treated a
- 12:38little weirdly. I don't think anyone's going to
- 12:40care in a month. I don't think anyone's thinking
- 12:45about this stuff at it at any other point.
- 12:47It's just strange, that's all. I didn't quite get it.
- 12:51Yeah, I'm like, if this was if this was the route you're going
- 12:55to take where you're not going to manipulate it for the service
- 12:58time, then let them open the season in Baltimore and just
- 13:01ride the buzz like 100. Percent 100%.
- 13:04I know I was kind of. I was kind of throwing a little
- 13:06bit of shade, like, oh, sorry, the Sox had to ruin the debut.
- 13:09But like, it's kind of not having this game kind of almost
- 13:14all but in the books at this point we're looking at, I mean
- 13:18top 7 bases are juice for the OS.
- 13:20So it's possible they're only down to, it's possible they come
- 13:23out of this with a win. Regardless, it's in terms of
- 13:27Jackson Holiday's contributions. It's been kind of anti climatic.
- 13:31So like, let him let not. Not that they could have seeing
- 13:37this happening. They're like, OK, we're gonna
- 13:39call him up on April 10th, then he's gonna go O for three or O
- 13:42for whatever, but like either let him break camp with the club
- 13:50or or take your year, whatever, like one or the other this, the
- 13:53timing is just very strange. It's it's something like you
- 13:56were saying. It's just something I I don't
- 13:58quite understand, but I'm glad he's up.
- 14:00The kid deserved it. I mean the he was raking it in
- 14:03in Norfolk. He hit.
- 14:04He was hitting 330-340-2595 to Jacks, 9 Ribbies, 5 Double S and
- 14:10twelve walks. What's terrifying is that he
- 14:14wasn't even having the best year out of that group down there.
- 14:17Can can we just do like, a whole episode on the Norfolk tides?
- 14:21Dude, bro that. Lineup is like, do all of them
- 14:26have and OPS over 900? I'm pretty sure, except maybe
- 14:31one guy in that lineup. It's stupid.
- 14:33It's stupid. They're stacked.
- 14:35And yeah, just insane. Yeah, I don't know, man.
- 14:47What are your thoughts on the the number 7 aspect of it?
- 14:50I thought that I thought the the, the story that came out of
- 14:55that decision was was pretty cool.
- 14:57Yeah, yeah, Cal's tweet and then the little maybe 32nd segment
- 15:06that that Bill Ripken had on MLB Central this morning.
- 15:13I I love the perspective of it. And again, I think it has to do
- 15:19with like this. It has to do with families.
- 15:21It has to do with like, baseball families.
- 15:24It it'd be one thing if it was just another prospect.
- 15:26I really think it would be one thing.
- 15:28But the fact that I'm positive that there's been plenty of
- 15:34sources that Bill and Cal have been able to talk to,
- 15:38understanding, being like, hey, like this kids, the real deal.
- 15:41He's got the make up for it. He's a respectful kid.
- 15:45There's probably a lot of conversations going into that,
- 15:47but I love, love what Bill was saying.
- 15:50He's like, you know, like it it brings my bad, my dad back into
- 15:54the conversation. Like it it brings him almost,
- 15:59you know, a part of the picture again.
- 16:01And for those to be attached, it's like that's an important
- 16:04thing. So like, I think it's cool for
- 16:08for Ryan and and the rest of his family to like, you know, have
- 16:13have Cal Senior like mentioned again, big part of it, you know?
- 16:20Yeah, I I'm, I'm with you. I think if it was if it.
- 16:23Just got busted open, buddy. You you spoke.
- 16:25You spoke too soon. No, I like I said, I was like,
- 16:32OK, bases are juice. They could, they could blow this
- 16:35thing open. I mean, it could go either way.
- 16:38You hate to see a rally killed right before Jackson comes up,
- 16:41but they just took a 7-5 lead. Was it a three run Jack?
- 16:48I'm behind. Three run Jack over left center
- 16:51monster tank job. Well, I mean, the rally wasn't
- 16:54necessarily killed. It was just, well, I yeah, I get
- 16:58what you're saying. I know home runs kill rallies.
- 17:00I'm in that place. Sure.
- 17:01That's fair. Yeah.
- 17:02Yeah, that's fair. OK.
- 17:03Yep. There it is.
- 17:04Three run Jack. Daddy hack too.
- 17:08Yeah, Love that, Love that. Anyway.
- 17:12Anyway, I mean my point still sands.
- 17:14I'm again not knocking Jackson Holiday.
- 17:16The the the outcome of this game is independent of how Jackson's
- 17:21done. And again it goes back to what I
- 17:22just said. This is first of all, I love
- 17:27that it's at Fenway. I mean if you're going to have a
- 17:29debut with the fact that it's at Fenway, there's a lot of
- 17:32historical elements to this call up story.
- 17:34The number 7 Fenway, there's a lot, there's a lot in the mix
- 17:37there. But again, this is Hindsight's
- 17:422020, but there's a little bit, a little anti climatic they
- 17:45should have, They should have broke camp with the team.
- 17:48He gave them every reason to keep them or to keep him on the
- 17:53roster. Coming out of camp they didn't,
- 17:55but here we are. But yeah, to your point, I think
- 17:59for the number seven, I think if it was any other prospects I
- 18:01think. I don't even think it's a
- 18:03question. I don't even think roaching the
- 18:06subject. Yeah, you're not presenting that
- 18:08to the Ripken family at all. You're not even putting them in
- 18:10the situation to make that decision because that's just
- 18:13uncomfortable for everybody involved, correct?
- 18:16I am curious though, who did. Did we find out who initiated
- 18:21that? I don't know that.
- 18:22I'm not sure. Is it Matt?
- 18:24I'm not sure I think you'd be cool just cause like Matt wore 7
- 18:32for a lot of his career. I know you wore 5 as well, but.
- 18:36We need to address that, by the way, whenever you're done.
- 18:39What? What?
- 18:40What? What?
- 18:41My my misunderstanding of cows. Of cows.
- 18:45But finish your thought. Finish your thought.
- 18:46Finish. Your thought Yeah, I don't know
- 18:49what the. I mean, I don't.
- 18:51Has Jackson been like Has he been wearing 7?
- 18:56You know, I honestly he's. Like 9 years old, I I haven't
- 19:00seen any of footage footage of him playing.
- 19:02Yeah, Israel. He's still at the age where,
- 19:04like, you go over to the box on the first day of practice and
- 19:07just pick the jersey. I think the number I believe
- 19:10you're not allowed to take leads off of first base yet and on
- 19:13deck needs to be in the dugout. And the number.
- 19:15The numbers only go up to 12. You can't make anything other
- 19:18than. That, and 12 is for the big kid.
- 19:22Exactly. That's tough.
- 19:27Yeah. I don't know, man.
- 19:29I like it. Either way, it's I wore 7 in in
- 19:34high school and college, so like, I'm I'm a little biased.
- 19:37I love that number. So.
- 19:39Oh, that's right. He was wearing 18 in Norfolk.
- 19:41Shout out Spencer, live live chat he, he said.
- 19:46He said he's 18 and as he said that I I pulled up the picture
- 19:48of him balling out in Norfolk. So confirmed 18.
- 19:52But I think that's a sweet baseball number.
- 19:56It's a perfect number. It really, genuinely is,
- 20:00especially as an infielder. Just hits different.
- 20:04Anyway, what are we gonna say about Cal's tweet?
- 20:07You. OK, so hear me out.
- 20:09Hear me out. Not to not to keep harping on
- 20:11the seven thing, but I I needed to get this out there.
- 20:14I I shouldn't be putting this out there.
- 20:15But you know, full, full transparency.
- 20:17It's an integrity move, SoCal tweeted out today.
- 20:20He said our family's thrilled that Jackson Holiday will be
- 20:23wearing Dad's number seven. Excited to watch him play.
- 20:27And so you know me with the content creator mindset, I just
- 20:31have to, I often times I have to scan things like if if
- 20:34something's going down that needs to get out, I don't really
- 20:36have time to sit there and process.
- 20:38So I saw Cal's tweet and I'm like, oh, and I saw other
- 20:41accounts posting the tweet. And I'm like, oh, this is going
- 20:43to have to be something that I put out.
- 20:46And so I just put out the post of the tweet having read it
- 20:50where it says our family's thrilled that Jackson Holiday
- 20:52will be wearing dad's number seven.
- 20:54Excited to watch him play the whole time I'm going, yeah, I I
- 20:59mean, that is cool. Like, he's wearing Matt Holiday
- 21:01like his dad's number seven. Like, it doesn't surprise me he
- 21:05went with dad's number and then I start seeing pictures of Cal
- 21:09Senior popping up and I'm like, what is this about?
- 21:11And then I had to put two and two together.
- 21:13I said, oh, obviously he's talking about Cal Senior.
- 21:16I knew this. It's not my proudest moment
- 21:19especially with as much as I love and appreciate the Ripken
- 21:22family. But it just wasn't.
- 21:24Wasn't at the forefront of my mind and joked aside, that goes
- 21:28back to Billy's point it it brings Cal Senior back into the
- 21:31mix 100% A. 100% And for anyone that's not like a die hard
- 21:36Oriole fan, I'm sure a lot of, a lot of baseball fans learned
- 21:41that Cal Senior rocked #7 today. I don't think.
- 21:44I don't think there's a ton of people that had that in the in
- 21:48the vault, you know what I mean? But anyway, yeah.
- 21:52So let me ask you this with the quote UN quote big three.
- 21:59Unfortunately you were this was like right around wedding time
- 22:03for you. But I was on Ryan's show and
- 22:06they they brought up the question of regarding Adly,
- 22:12Gunner and Jackson. In a perfect world, the OS
- 22:16extend all three. But if you could only extend one
- 22:18of these guys. I said, Gunner, I said.
- 22:21I think my gut would have said, like if you'd have asked me like
- 22:26last November, I think is what I said.
- 22:28I would have gone Adly just because I I very much value the
- 22:32importance of having a captain or not necessarily an official
- 22:36captain but you know somebody steering the ship from behind
- 22:38the dish and Adly has proven I mean that you look at the you
- 22:43look at the splits from when he got there to to where they are
- 22:46now and. And to the winning percentage is
- 22:48just declined like yeah, like getting.
- 22:50Swept maybe like once or twice in the Adly era.
- 22:55But I I said I think I I would probably switch my vote now to
- 22:59Gunner. So my question to you is, of
- 23:02those three, who were you? Who would you extend if you
- 23:05could only extend one I? Would agree.
- 23:07I think Gunner being partial to to shortstops, I don't want to
- 23:17put this out in the in the universe.
- 23:18I don't want to put this out there, 'cause I don't know, like
- 23:22how much merit it really has, but like Adly body type and
- 23:31athletically gives me vibes that he will not finish his career as
- 23:36a catcher. He gives me a lot of like Joe
- 23:41Mauer vibes. I think he moves pretty well
- 23:43right now as a catcher, like base paths.
- 23:47But you can tell like that's he's a those are heavy heels.
- 23:50You know what I mean? Like everything he does is it's
- 23:53kind of big movement. It's not super fluid.
- 23:56Don't get me wrong, he's an absolute freak.
- 24:00But I I just, I have that feeling like there is going to
- 24:03be this weird. What do we do with him?
- 24:07Because his body's starting to wear down a little bit.
- 24:11I think gunner's gunner. And I think worst case scenario
- 24:16if a shortstop loses a little range, you slide him over to
- 24:193rd, you tell him to put on another 15 lbs and and let him,
- 24:24you know just tear up that that right center.
- 24:29The ball just flies there. So I I don't know.
- 24:31I would want Gunner is that a fair answer?
- 24:36I don't think there's a wrong answer.
- 24:38I. Don't know.
- 24:45And as as as much as I think he will live up to the hype, he
- 24:50hasn't yet, so I can't say Jackson.
- 24:54Well going back to Spencer in the live chat he said if Holiday
- 24:57puts up numbers comparable or better than Henderson this year
- 25:00would you change your answer to Holiday?
- 25:02For me the question is and they're talking about on the
- 25:05broadcast tonight, they're talking about where Jackson
- 25:09Holiday fits into the five tool player description and the pop
- 25:14was the one that they're they're unsure of right now like he's
- 25:17he's got it but to classify him as like an 80 grade complete
- 25:23package 5 Tool player, I don't know I mean he hit what 15, he
- 25:29had 15 jacks in the Miners last year.
- 25:32I don't know if that how that translates to the big leagues
- 25:36but I mean if you're putting up close to that I don't know if I
- 25:39don't know if we can really. I don't know if we can expect
- 25:45much more than that from Jackson, at least at this day.
- 25:49And I know it's like super early.
- 25:51He's like 12, but I don't know how many, how much power we can
- 25:56expect from him at this stage in his career.
- 25:58For any nerds out there, power grades at 60, running grades at
- 26:0760, ARM and fielding are at 55. Those are the lowest hits at 70.
- 26:15I don't think there's going to be any issues.
- 26:18I just. I texted Ryan this couple.
- 26:23I don't know, maybe a week ago. I was like this roster gives me
- 26:27headaches. I see log jams all over the
- 26:29place. All over the place.
- 26:33Dude, I it's it's very easy as a non Orioles fan to get kind of
- 26:38mixed up with with all of the like all of the young dude like
- 26:41you've got, you've got Cowzer, you've got Westberg, you've got
- 26:45Mayo, you've got Holiday. I mean, there's certain names
- 26:48you're obviously not gonna get mixed up, but.
- 26:50There are certainly Logjam, Heston, Heston, Kurstad.
- 26:55Kurstad. Yeah, I mean, what the heck,
- 26:59dude? Like Mayo, I think slots at
- 27:01third. I think he plays corners.
- 27:04But like, are you not? I asked Ryan.
- 27:06I was like, are they gonna move on from Mount Castle?
- 27:08Like who? Who do you?
- 27:10Who do you move out of the picture?
- 27:12Like, who do you move on from? You gotta create room somewhere.
- 27:16I guess they tanked for a couple years too long.
- 27:20Yeah, too. Too many top prospects?
- 27:22Sorry. On their hands.
- 27:24Did I say that out loud? Not a bad problem to have I
- 27:29guess. Any other thoughts on the on the
- 27:32holiday call up slash debut? I mean at the very least they
- 27:39might be able to sneak out of here with a win.
- 27:40Again, we're recording during the game.
- 27:42It's Bottom 7 at this point in time.
- 27:44But I mean I I'm I'm just glad it's finally here and there was
- 27:52there was like a a weird calmness that came out came over
- 27:57me like again not an Orioles fan.
- 28:00But you know you get you get like anxious for these you get
- 28:03like second hand anxiety. You get like I'm.
- 28:06I'm watching him take his AB and I we're sitting there.
- 28:08I was I told Meredith I was like I'd be crapping my pants right
- 28:11now And you mentioned you mentioned his dad Matt just
- 28:15being completely stoic and I'm sitting here watching watching
- 28:19him answer these questions. Jackson answered his questions
- 28:23before the game for pregame media availability.
- 28:26And I'm like, this dude is talking like he's a 30 year old
- 28:31vet. It's it's unbelievable.
- 28:34So you know, good, good for him. I'm I'm glad the the era has
- 28:39finally begun. I I I do too.
- 28:42I am. I'm also glad I I think giving
- 28:46him, I think it's cool 'cause like, you hate to see struggle,
- 28:51but like worst case scenario, maybe he goes oh for tomorrow as
- 28:54well. But then they got the the six
- 28:56game home, seven, no, six game home stand after that.
- 29:01And so like maybe getting the jitters out a little before
- 29:05going home before the hype helps a little bit.
- 29:10Maybe you can get the first knock out of the way tomorrow
- 29:12and really just settle in for the home stand, which would be
- 29:14pretty cool. But yeah, who knows?
- 29:17At this point just go over, yeah just for to round out the the
- 29:22road trip and then just bust out at home like yeah it should have
- 29:27happened opening day but it's fine.
- 29:28Like I'll, I'll, I'll let. There's a lot, man.
- 29:31There's a lot going on. There's a lot to be excited
- 29:33about. And you know, part of me is a
- 29:37little bit of a hater, part of me is a little jealous.
- 29:39But it is what it is. You know they they got a decent
- 29:43formula over there. Speaking of being a hater, I put
- 29:48out. I put out a tweet.
- 29:49I was getting like a lot of blowback, but I put out a tweet
- 29:53today. Where else?
- 29:53Like Baltimore Orioles. Call up Adley Rechman, call up
- 29:57Gunner Henderson. Win 101 games, trade for Corbin
- 30:00Burns, Call up Jackson Holiday, Red Sox.
- 30:03Hey, we're bringing back real ketchup to Fenway.
- 30:06That's kind of. That's kind of where we're at.
- 30:08That's a big highlight right there.
- 30:10It's a big deal. I I was getting called a hater.
- 30:13Not exactly sure why. Got nothing but love for the
- 30:16O's. I think, I think O's fans are a
- 30:19little sensitive to the tanking conversation.
- 30:22I think they're it's a touchy, sore subject.
- 30:26I get it. And people rest the baseballs.
- 30:30I think we're all very aware of what that game plan was for 7-8
- 30:35years. Yeah, yeah, but.
- 30:39And and people are coming after me almost as if they're like,
- 30:42questioning my Red Sox fan hood. And they're like, yeah, but do
- 30:46you know what it took to get those names?
- 30:48And I'm like, what happened? Like, has happened.
- 30:54Like, what have you done for me lately?
- 30:56Recently, Who would you, who would you rather be a fan of?
- 30:59Yeah, it's true, really there. There are a few teams that I
- 31:02would put above the Orioles, Forget the Red Sox there.
- 31:05There are a few teams that I'd put above the OS at this point,
- 31:08just with the the buzz that they got.
- 31:09Like I don't care how last year. And the new owner, you know what
- 31:12I mean? Like all of it's like coming
- 31:15together the the possible renovations or expansions to
- 31:20like the the grounds around Camden Yards.
- 31:23Like everything is going Orioles way and the window is just
- 31:29cracking open. Oh's fans just got awake.
- 31:35Got to be waking up every day going, who's got it better than
- 31:38us. Feeling good, feeling great.
- 31:42It's unreal. All right, let's let's put a bow
- 31:45on that as gunner. Legs out of stand up triple.
- 31:53Basically a stand up triple. Let's talk some Blake Snell
- 31:56debut here real quick. Made his first start for the
- 32:00Giants. Was not pretty. 3 innings, three
- 32:04hits, three runs. I believe he was on a little bit
- 32:07of a pitch limit. Given again that this was his
- 32:10his first outing for the club, but not not exactly what you
- 32:15would have hoped for him. He did have 5 KS, but just a
- 32:20little, a little sloppy. I mean, his first inning was
- 32:24very much a Blake Snell inning. Couple walks, couple KS.
- 32:31He had four full counts, struck out one, threw 26 pitches.
- 32:38So he was. It was very like it was
- 32:41organized chaos. He.
- 32:44Yeah. Can you imagine being an
- 32:46infielder behind him? I'd lose my mind.
- 32:49That would lose my mind. Yeah.
- 32:53I yeah, I'm gonna go and assume, 'cause I didn't see any minor
- 32:58league starts. Did he just do, like, extended
- 33:02spring training workouts or what?
- 33:05What was that? I think some.
- 33:07Simulated games or something? I believe he was getting a a
- 33:10decent amount of side work in at the.
- 33:13Like before signing. HQ Yeah, yeah, Yeah.
- 33:16So. I mean, he was, I think, I think
- 33:19he was standing HQ now. I'm serious.
- 33:22See that? You know what?
- 33:23Like a you know? What it makes me think of a
- 33:24facility that he has. It makes me think of when when
- 33:30the when Gru from Despicable Me like tries to go steal the moon
- 33:35back from whatever his face is and he like sneaks into the
- 33:39place and there's just like a giant Shark Tank that's swimming
- 33:43around. That's what I think Boris lives
- 33:45in. I think he just lives in like
- 33:47this, this Doctor Evil. Yeah, Tower dude.
- 33:53That's a great point. I would love to see a picture of
- 33:55Scott Boris House. Like what is it?
- 33:58Just black interior everywhere. All black, All black.
- 34:02Black brick. Black paper towels, Bats flying
- 34:07around. Just a mess.
- 34:10But yeah. Anyway, his his clients.
- 34:12Blake Snell. Not exactly the sharpest outing,
- 34:14but you know it's early for him, at least so.
- 34:17I wouldn't, Yeah. I wouldn't stress.
- 34:18I would. Stress.
- 34:19About it topped out in 97 I saw and hardest hit ball was 90 exit
- 34:28V low off of him so you know that's what he does that's what
- 34:33he does. So I think Giants fan has got to
- 34:37feel pretty decent like I'm I'm like delightfully surprised to
- 34:41see what Jordan Hicks is doing. We all know that like you know
- 34:47Kyle Harrison has a a really high ceiling and is expecting to
- 34:51do well and and Logan Webb's gonna be fine.
- 34:53I know it's been a rocky start so like there's a lot of things
- 34:56going well for the Giants. There's a lot of things to be
- 34:59positive about, but whoa, did you see that?
- 35:10What happened to the OS? Hit like an 8 run home run or
- 35:12something I. Just got the update.
- 35:15Interpreter of Otani to be charged after federal
- 35:19investigation absolves Shohei of wrongdoing.
- 35:23Well, that's the most predictable headline of all
- 35:25time. Shohei is officially out of the
- 35:27woods. Quick investigation, super quick
- 35:35investigation. There any who's did he look good
- 35:43in the in the Giants uniform to you?
- 35:45Did you like it? Do you like 7 on him?
- 35:49You know, that's a that's an interesting question 'cause I
- 35:51hate. Single digit numbers on
- 35:53pitchers. Yeah I'm not crazy about it but
- 35:57you know he looks alright in Giants uni.
- 35:59Like I I didn't hate it. It wasn't it wasn't like a Soto
- 36:03and pinstripes kind of feel. I was like oh, this guy this guy
- 36:06was a maid for the the off white the.
- 36:09Giant Uniform is is a fantastic uniform and it looks good on
- 36:14most people so. It's a baseball classic right
- 36:17there. Yeah, Speaking of uniform, Skip
- 36:23Schumacher might be in a a new uniform for the 2025 season.
- 36:29What a weird did we? I was thinking about this as as
- 36:32I was pulling my nose together. Did we mention this at all?
- 36:35Like I I feel like we did. We.
- 36:37I feel like we touched on it. Briefly touched on it, but we
- 36:40didn't get into detail. Yeah.
- 36:43And I think more kind of developed in the recent days,
- 36:46with reports coming out that apparently that he's just, I
- 36:54guess, prepared to quote, explore new options.
- 37:02Owner Bruce Sherman agreed to void the 2025 team option as a
- 37:07quote show of good faith, allowing him to seek other
- 37:12options this winter, which I read that it was.
- 37:16It was mainly about Kim Ming. Yeah, and that's that's what I
- 37:20was reading as well. Apparently he the the article
- 37:24that I was reading he was not happy with the departure of GM
- 37:29Kim Ng and it really speaks to a a tweet that I came across.
- 37:35But forgive me, I don't have the.
- 37:37I don't. I didn't get the username, I
- 37:38just saw the tweet, but it said do the Marlins have any sort of
- 37:41long term plan or is it all just a daily vibe thing?
- 37:45Dude. And that's all chicken wire and
- 37:47duct tape down there. That perfectly sums up what the
- 37:51Marlins are doing. Like there's no long term vision
- 37:54there. We, you and I came to the
- 37:56defense of Jeter and which is hard for me to do, but we came
- 37:59to the defense of Jeter in terms of the vision he was trying to
- 38:03craft. We got.
- 38:04Bombarded for that too. We did the the winning mentality
- 38:08that I think he was trying to reinvigorate the team with, and
- 38:12they just didn't seem like they were very receptive to it.
- 38:15And the moves that they have made since letting Jeter walk
- 38:20simply have not made sense. And I I I think essentially
- 38:26turning Skip Schumacher loose is just another line to that
- 38:31narrative. Because everywhere that I'm
- 38:35reading says that regardless, like, completely independent of
- 38:40how the Marlins season ends up this year, they could lose out
- 38:43for the rest of the season. Everything that I'm reading says
- 38:45that he still will be a highly touted manager, managerial
- 38:51option for clubs needing to fill that void for the 2025 season.
- 38:58I think so, that that tells you everything.
- 39:00'S aware, yeah, everyone's aware of what that is.
- 39:03It just it it really this gives me A's vibes.
- 39:07This gives me A's vibes. We're just happy to collect a
- 39:10check kind of thing. It was really strange for for
- 39:15them to have a a wild card appearance last year.
- 39:18I mean like first round exit or not, like considering the hill
- 39:22they had to climb. Like you got to give them a lot
- 39:25of respect for pulling that out and and working their way in,
- 39:28especially with that division. So for them to work their way
- 39:32into the wild card, then for owner to come bring somebody
- 39:38else else in as VP of Operations to give Kim Ming a boss.
- 39:44Kim Ming leaves and and the only move you do in the offseason is
- 39:51to bring in a what seems to be barely having a pulse career TA.
- 40:00You made no additions. You did nothing.
- 40:06You bring in Tim Anderson and then you give your your new
- 40:09manager, who from what I can tell has done a really good job,
- 40:14who won manners to the year. You give him no new weapons, you
- 40:17give him no new toys to work with.
- 40:20It's all really strange to me, man.
- 40:22And I told you the Ohtani, not to keep going back to him, but
- 40:29to bring in his contract where there was a specific clause that
- 40:35if someone is fired, which I would go ahead and assume is
- 40:40talking about like manager or GM, if there's a change, Ohtani
- 40:45will have an opt out. I think this is going to become
- 40:50more normal with a lot of contracts, with a lot of
- 40:54contracts specifically to a manager, you know what I mean?
- 40:59Like for Skip Schumacher to say, all right, well, I'm gonna move
- 41:01my family out of Miami to wherever now I need to know that
- 41:06in this three or four year deal that you're giving me, you're
- 41:09not going to change plans halfway through.
- 41:14And I think for the average fan, like they need to understand
- 41:17that, like typically organizations just it's not a
- 41:21flip of the switch. It takes a few years to change
- 41:24philosophy. It takes a few years to change,
- 41:27move around scouting, change your analytics department.
- 41:31Like there's a lot of work that goes into changing an
- 41:34organization and to just quickly pull a trigger.
- 41:39I I'm very confused with the Marlins.
- 41:41They've always confused me ever since the move to Miami.
- 41:45I or moving the name at least to Miami and the new stadium.
- 41:49All of it is just a big question mark, man.
- 41:51And again for sure gives me A's vibes.
- 41:56Sacramento as vibes? The Sacramento as of Las Vegas
- 42:02yeah. I mean it it wasn't that long
- 42:05ago where one of our bits was the whole like let's go Marlins
- 42:08thing and we we set it seemingly every episode and to see how how
- 42:13quickly things have changed. It's kind of sad because I've
- 42:17I've we've talked about on here before the Marlins are a team
- 42:20that have like the energy is certainly there.
- 42:25Yeah, the the energy is there to to work with.
- 42:31I mean, Florida residents may have a different opinion, but I
- 42:34feel like it's not a terrible place to have a ball club.
- 42:38Like I I feel like there's a rich.
- 42:40Like, I don't know. Like there's there's a baseball
- 42:44market to be tapped into down there.
- 42:47They're not tapping into it, but it is there.
- 42:50And so to just be, to be the the biggest thing is like, forget
- 42:56culture, forget ballpark, forget energy.
- 42:59The the biggest mistake that they're continuing to make year
- 43:04after year, it seems, is they're mismanaging very smart baseball
- 43:08minds, right? And you, you, you've lucked into
- 43:13some very brilliant people being either on your on the diamond or
- 43:19in your front office and you've basically shooed them away.
- 43:23You don't get to luck into that year after year.
- 43:27I mean you you you ended up with two 3-4 people depending upon if
- 43:30you want to throw Jeter into the mix and and and maybe some
- 43:33others, but you're going to be sitting there empty handed and
- 43:38you're going to be out of luck and then you're going to have no
- 43:40talent on the field and no brains in the front office.
- 43:43And then at that point, what is, what is there left to work with?
- 43:47I don't know. Me neither.
- 43:50It's exhausting though. Weird spot to be in moving along
- 43:56here. Trevor's story out for the
- 43:58season. Look, it's tough, man.
- 44:06I I don't think I realized how much I appreciated Trevor's
- 44:11story until this most recent ordeal with him.
- 44:17Just a freak accident. A diving play when they're in in
- 44:21Anaheim test comes back. I think they went out for a
- 44:25second opinion. Comes back and says that he has
- 44:29to go season end undergo season ending surgery for a fracture in
- 44:34his shoulder. Meaning that by season's end in
- 44:392024 he will have played 145 of a possible 486 games.
- 44:45He is in the in the middle of a six year, $140 million deal with
- 44:49the Sox. But with that said, I as I as I
- 44:55was saying I don't. I don't think I realized how
- 44:57much I appreciated the player that Trevor Bauer, Trevor Power.
- 45:02Trevor's story is until this most recent ordeal because I
- 45:08watched the the interview after I guess after the the decision
- 45:15was was made and he just could not keep it.
- 45:19He was doing everything in his power to keep it together.
- 45:22And you you could just tell by by listening to the things he
- 45:28was saying and how he was saying them that this dude cares about
- 45:33the game. He cares about being there for
- 45:35his teammates as much as he can be.
- 45:38And he's, he said himself that like he prides himself in being
- 45:41able to to to be there to to just be able to offer that
- 45:47availability to whatever team he's with, whether it be, you
- 45:50know, the Rockies, the Red Sox, whoever.
- 45:52Whoever's employing him, he wants to make sure that he's
- 45:56given everything he can. And I think he really took a
- 45:58step forward this offseason with that infielders camp that he he
- 46:03ran and I really felt like and he he even made my list of of
- 46:10play the the list I've mentioned a few times on the pod, the
- 46:14players I believe in for 2024 and it's just kind of a
- 46:17hodgepodge list of names. And he was on that list because
- 46:20I'm like you know what he's had some bad breaks.
- 46:22But I feel like I feel like this is going to be a big year for
- 46:25him And he he started off. He had, he had a decent start
- 46:29all things considered and I I think he was really going to
- 46:31heat up. But just as I, as I mentioned
- 46:36the the the video was what really just did it in for me and
- 46:41I actually for those who haven't caught it yet, I have it queued
- 46:45up for us here. You know missing last season you
- 46:49you feel that you know you you miss your teammates.
- 46:52You miss playing the game. You just know what it takes.
- 47:14You know. But I'll be all right.
- 47:25So if you watch it you can you can really see these fight back
- 47:28the tears. But even if you just listen you
- 47:29know he's. I mean you can just tell the
- 47:32pain that's that's behind his voice and it just sucks man.
- 47:36Like there just seems to be guys around the league that just
- 47:40can't seem to shake this. And I don't know why, but I I
- 47:43feel differently about this particular case than I do.
- 47:47Somebody like Chris Sale, and not that I have any ill will
- 47:51against Chris Sale, but for some reason they're very similar in
- 47:54terms of just not being able to shake freak injuries and stuff
- 47:57like that. But for some reason, with Trevor
- 47:58Story, I just feel differently about it.
- 48:00And I don't know why, but he, like I said, man, he's just,
- 48:04he's he's broken up about it. Yeah, and that's, I think that's
- 48:09the difference between him. And if you're going to attach a
- 48:13name as far as like missed games go, you can't sit here and say
- 48:18that, you know he's anything like an Anthony rundown.
- 48:23You you know, like you can just tell he cares more.
- 48:28Just to prove to you guys that there is longevity and and
- 48:33durability typically outside of these freak injuries.
- 48:37When he first came in full time in 2017, he played 145 games.
- 48:42Next year, one 57145. Again in 2019-2020 COVID year 60
- 48:49games, he played 59 and then his last year in in Colorado, 142.
- 48:55And as you mentioned before, just in a Sox uniform.
- 48:58It's only been 145 games in three years.
- 49:03It sucks for sure. And like I kind of I've I I
- 49:07feel, I feel bad for you guys, man.
- 49:09Like it's you know I never want you know opposing injuries or
- 49:16anything you know. And it's the dude Rakes.
- 49:20He Rakes and he is as as much as of of a bad rapid that he gets
- 49:26for for his defense. I I watched him a lot when he
- 49:30was a Rocky and that dude flashes leather and he can show
- 49:34it off, but it is weird. There's something weird going on
- 49:39man, between you know Story and Pavetta and who we'll get into
- 49:45later and and Giolito, that's over $50 million of payroll that
- 49:52are done for the year. That's 26% of your payroll,
- 49:56buddy. It's hard to do anything with
- 50:00that. You know, like it's hard for any
- 50:02organization to be missing 1/4 of their you can't say team, but
- 50:071/4 of their of their structure, you know what I mean?
- 50:131/4 of their foundation. These are guys that you rely on.
- 50:16These are these are you know a walking 4-5 war per year type
- 50:23guys that you're know. Pavetta maybe not quite yet but
- 50:26the other two for sure. So it's weird, it's there's some
- 50:30weirdness going on, some bad luck for sure.
- 50:33I think, I think John Henry was was all but banking on these
- 50:38types of things happening so that he would be able to justify
- 50:41his lack of activity, lack of spending in the offseason.
- 50:49Because if you if you don't have these pieces, if you don't have
- 50:53a Nick Pivetta for if you're if you're out Nick Pivetta for an
- 50:56extended period of time. If you if you're out story for
- 51:00the remainder of the year and some other pieces maybe fall by
- 51:02the wayside then you're going well what good would
- 51:05reinforcements have done if you're John Henry.
- 51:08So I think behind closed doors he he might be he might be
- 51:14pleased not that he's wishing injury on people but he's going
- 51:18OK like this is this is working out from a financial point of
- 51:22view because it's it's going to it's going to show that I didn't
- 51:26necessarily need to spend the money because these things were
- 51:30bound to happen anyway. So why would I needed why would
- 51:33I have needed to fork over money for for pieces that wouldn't
- 51:36have mattered in the long run. But Speaking of forking over
- 51:39money, he did keep sticking it with the Red Sox here.
- 51:44The Red Sox did extend sedan Raphaela 8 year $50 million deal
- 51:50that will buy out a few a couple years of free agency.
- 51:58He is their number 4 prospects. He's he's been off to a a a
- 52:02pretty good start. He's he's saved a couple games
- 52:07on the defensive side of things. He has the ability to man an out
- 52:14man an outfield. He can also man the six hole
- 52:17shortstop. So you know it's it's not the
- 52:21it's not the worst sign in team's ever made.
- 52:23I think there's some good potential here.
- 52:25He's very athletic and can provide some versatility and I
- 52:28think that versatility might even be coming into play already
- 52:31because there's talks of possibly fill in the Trevor
- 52:34Story void with Sudan Rafaela for the time being until they
- 52:40can maybe get some other options worked out or get some other
- 52:43guys some some more reps. You said it's Sudan, right?
- 52:47Saddam Rafaela. Yeah, I haven't heard it out
- 52:49loud yet. So cool.
- 52:53It is very back loaded by the way.
- 52:55If you saw that the contract is is super back loaded, you know
- 53:01it really grows. I think it's like a million next
- 53:05year grows like 3, then five, then seven and then you know by
- 53:08his last year he's gonna be 30 years old in 2031 and he's only
- 53:13making 13 mil. So like this is, I think it's a
- 53:17really smart team friendly deal. We know that this is gonna, it's
- 53:23already the new trend. It's a little bit of a lottery
- 53:27ticket but in reality like it's it's not that bad.
- 53:31Like you don't feel that bad. It gives you plenty of even the
- 53:34even the signing bonus is being spaced out over each year.
- 53:38So it's like nothing's really hitting too hard, gives you
- 53:45plenty of flexibility. And then like if he does pan out
- 53:48and if he does crack into his prime for, you know, the last
- 53:533-4 years of this deal, like, heck yeah, at, you know, 1013 a
- 53:58year, Who cares. I would take it.
- 54:04Yeah. Look I'm not trying to be a a
- 54:06pessimist here. I I just I see the vision there.
- 54:11There's certainly a foundation being laid here with certain
- 54:13extensions. I think Costas is next.
- 54:15Hopefully they can get something worked out with him.
- 54:18You've already got Devers, you've got Rafael, you've got
- 54:21Baio, you've got you've got some dudes there that can create a a
- 54:26not half bad core if if things pan out the way we're expecting
- 54:31them to. But I just wish that as the
- 54:34Boston Red Sox who are a major market team, we're not treating
- 54:38the last few years as if they're a a small to mid market team.
- 54:43Like I I I don't think these years needed to be wasted.
- 54:48But you know these extensions that are popping up you know, I
- 54:52I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna hate on them.
- 54:54I just wish that we would have utilized these last couple years
- 54:58a little bit better. You only need.
- 55:01You only really need a couple, a couple pieces to fill in the
- 55:06cracks. You know what I'm saying?
- 55:08Like if you move everybody down a slot in the order after
- 55:11getting a big bat, move everybody down in the rotation
- 55:14of slot after getting a big arm, like you can see how it can
- 55:19change things. Look at, I mean like Soto's a
- 55:21different story, but like look at Soto in a Yankee lineup and
- 55:24it makes you feel a lot better. So it's it's there for the
- 55:30taking. If they want to go get it just
- 55:33and I can see why you're frustrated 'cause it is a weird
- 55:38help me, I'm poor. Enter that GIF.
- 55:42Exactly. Yeah, exactly.
- 55:45Somebody I'm I'm pretty excited about with the socks though, as
- 55:49we switch gears here into some guys that have been kind of
- 55:53going off lately. At the top of my list here, in
- 55:57no particular order, Tyler O'Neill entering, entering
- 56:01Wednesday nights or entering Wednesday altogether was leading
- 56:07the AL with home runs. I think he was actually tied.
- 56:10He was tied with Trout. I think Trout has six as well.
- 56:13But he was leading the AL and home runs runs on base, slug OPS
- 56:20and a little nugget here for those who maybe didn't know he
- 56:23actually. I can't remember who who put
- 56:27this out, but I saw a post that said he had.
- 56:29He's had Opening day home runs as, as we know, the opening day
- 56:32home run king. Not only did he hit a home run
- 56:37on like the official opening day this season, he hit opening Day
- 56:41home runs in Anaheim and Boston as well.
- 56:44Like for those respective opening days, Boston's was like
- 56:49super late as we very well know. Like this.
- 56:51This is the first series to at home against Baltimore but
- 56:55Opening Day home runs this year in Seattle, Anaheim and Boston
- 56:59so that was pretty cool. Shota Imanaga has yet to give up
- 57:05a run this season. Two starts, 10 innings pitched,
- 57:084 hits allowed, no walks and 12 KS.
- 57:12So that acquisition is looking very good for the for the
- 57:17cubbies. So love that move.
- 57:20I actually, I was, I was locked in very yeah, very much so.
- 57:25I was locked in for his first start.
- 57:27I believe it was against the Rockies and that.
- 57:30Was the stole spring training game I went to?
- 57:33It was one of his starts. Nice.
- 57:36OK. Yeah.
- 57:37Yeah. Like, I I think you, you got to
- 57:39take advantage of of, I don't even know.
- 57:43I haven't paid attention at all of, like, what the weather's
- 57:45been like in Chicago. But like, if you can get off as
- 57:48a pitcher, get off to a hot start while it's cold, while
- 57:53it's frigid, you know these hitters aren't super warmed up
- 57:56yet. Like, you know what I mean?
- 57:57Like, just get it going. Just get the ball rolling
- 58:00quickly. He looks good, man.
- 58:02It's impressive. To that to that point it was
- 58:05gross on opening day at Wrigley. So he's taking taking full
- 58:10advantage a guy that I I'm not kidding dude.
- 58:14I'm really excited with this with this particular individual
- 58:17start Spencer Turnbull back-to-back scoreless outings
- 58:22he's he's tallied 11 innings thus far 13 KS and only one walk
- 58:27for the fill. So talking about a team that I
- 58:31personally have in the World Series this year.
- 58:33If he can give them if he can eat some innings not not just
- 58:37eat innings but if he if he can provide some some value out of
- 58:41that spot in the rotation look out that is I think that is some
- 58:47some that's a that's a bonus that that club was not
- 58:51necessarily expecting much out of.
- 58:53So good for good for Spencer Turnbull.
- 58:59The aforementioned Mike Trout, currently tied again entering
- 59:04Wednesday, currently tied with the MLB lead with six homers and
- 59:07ranks 4th with an OPS of 1150, Continuing the narrative of this
- 59:13being a redemption season for Mike Trout.
- 59:15Man, I love that. Telling you I feel good
- 59:18Exhausting him to stay healthy. I.
- 59:20Like I like it. I need him.
- 59:23Maybe the dream scenario is if he got traded at some point.
- 59:31I don't know at this point it yeah.
- 59:33But at this point it almost it it almost kind of just feels
- 59:36weird like he's he's clearly bought into it.
- 59:39He's he's accepted his role into this dumpster fire of an
- 59:46organization like he he signed here long term.
- 59:49He knew I think he knew what he was getting involved in to a
- 59:52degree. I think he he was maybe misled a
- 59:54little bit but you you have to have some awareness in terms of
- 59:58what you're getting what you're signing up for.
- 1:00:01But at this at this point I just I don't care where he plays.
- 1:00:04I just want to see him stay healthy man.
- 1:00:06I the the thing the thing that gets to me though I saw a lot of
- 1:00:10accounts. I've seen a lot of accounts
- 1:00:14recently talking about now that he's going off, like, is Mike
- 1:00:17Trout, is Mike Trout still the best player in baseball?
- 1:00:20Or, like, is Mike Trout getting back to being the best player in
- 1:00:23baseball? Like, OK, OK, so Shohei leaves
- 1:00:27town and now we're gonna, we're gonna start this narrative back
- 1:00:30up again. It's just it just seemed a
- 1:00:33little little hypocritical, that's all.
- 1:00:36I'm not gonna name names, but I I saw it out there and I'm going
- 1:00:41Why? Why all of a sudden are we
- 1:00:43bringing this back up? Is what it is.
- 1:00:47Just let my man cook in silence. That's that's his, that's his.
- 1:00:50His dream scenario. Let me just cook in silence.
- 1:00:54Yeah, no eyes out there. Crazy.
- 1:01:04Garrett Crochet Another guy's off to a very strong start, 18
- 1:01:09innings pitch over three starts 21 KS again.
- 1:01:12To reiterate, all of these performances are are entering
- 1:01:16Wednesday the 10th, so things things may change.
- 1:01:19But entering Wednesday, Garrett crochet 18 innings over three
- 1:01:22stars, 21 KS, which is second in baseball and an ERA of two flat
- 1:01:28so. Get that little Speaking of
- 1:01:30flat, that leg kick. Yeah, little weird leg kick.
- 1:01:34He's got rocking. It's different, man.
- 1:01:37Super short up in here. It's different.
- 1:01:41I like it. I like it.
- 1:01:43He wasn't he. He was the one that did he pitch
- 1:01:50in the College World Series And then.
- 1:01:54Uh oh. Get a chance.
- 1:01:57You're talking about for Tennessee?
- 1:02:01It was a few years ago. Oh no.
- 1:02:05Who was? Yeah, Crochet went to Tennessee.
- 1:02:09Yeah, he was called up in September by the White Sox.
- 1:02:12The same year, right? Became the first MLE player in
- 1:02:15six years to reach the big leagues in the same year in
- 1:02:17which he was drafted. Yeah.
- 1:02:18OK, then I'm not I. Knew he went to Tennessee, but I
- 1:02:20couldn't remember if if that if it was that same fall.
- 1:02:23I'm not crazy. That's funny.
- 1:02:25Good recall there, my friend. Thank you.
- 1:02:28Yeah, he's, he looks like he's. Settling in I love.
- 1:02:32That. You got nothing to lose.
- 1:02:34You got nothing to lose. If you're that organization, try
- 1:02:36them out as a starter and it looks like it's paying off, so.
- 1:02:42Speaking of nothing to lose, chalangaliers of the Sacramento
- 1:02:50A's of Las Vegas, you may as well just go out there and take
- 1:02:53Daddy Hacks man. Boost your Boost your trade
- 1:02:56stock. Whatever it is that you you're
- 1:02:58trying to boost gets. Pad those stats.
- 1:03:00Boost those numbers. He did that Tuesday night 3
- 1:03:04bombs against the Rangers Look I gotta I gotta shine a light on
- 1:03:10A's performances when they come along.
- 1:03:12Cause ventures say it's probably not gonna be too many of them
- 1:03:14but one of the want to give a tip of the old ball cap to Shay
- 1:03:19Langoliers. MJ Melendez I saw AI saw a post
- 1:03:25that said, as of Tuesday, MJ Melendez has a career WAR of .7.
- 1:03:31His first hundred and his first 277 career games.
- 1:03:35He accumulated a war of .2. His last nine games .5.
- 1:03:42That's a tough look because I'm kind of like him.
- 1:03:44I kind of like his bat. You see, you talked him up big
- 1:03:48like the last year or two, like you.
- 1:03:49See potential in his bat. I think it's gonna come at some
- 1:03:52point. I don't know if it's like
- 1:03:54league, the league type thing, but I don't know man.
- 1:04:02I. Provided you a little defensive
- 1:04:03versatility. Something about it.
- 1:04:07I'm a fan. So I mean last again.
- 1:04:10Entering Tuesday, his previous nine games had more than doubled
- 1:04:14his career WAR. So good for you, my friend
- 1:04:22Jordan. Jordan Alvarez, his last 24 ABS.
- 1:04:26He's got fourteen hits, four bombs and 11 ribbies.
- 1:04:32I'll say it again, he's a man amongst boys.
- 1:04:36He really is. He really, genuinely is.
- 1:04:40Literally, Figuratively, metaphorically, figuratively,
- 1:04:43all of all of the all of the types.
- 1:04:47He gives me big poppy vibes. He always has.
- 1:04:50And I would, I would venture to say.
- 1:04:56I would venture to say he might be a better hitter.
- 1:05:02I don't know if he'll match the power numbers, but like how much
- 1:05:08time, how long it took for Poppy to start peppering that left
- 1:05:12field wall. You saw it late in his career.
- 1:05:16You see it right now if you were Don like you were Don he goes
- 1:05:19with. Conviction man.
- 1:05:20Oh, it's conviction. Yeah, Ball's.
- 1:05:23Driven. I don't even know.
- 1:05:26How old do you think he is? Give me a guess.
- 1:05:30Jordan, I'm gonna say 28, 2626. Wow.
- 1:05:48I told you I he gives me, he gives me poppy vibes.
- 1:05:52Dude, a key. He's a great hitter.
- 1:05:57It's he's not just like a a swing and miss power guy like
- 1:06:01the guy is is a very, very good hitter.
- 1:06:06I don't know. I love it, man.
- 1:06:07We'll see it in the end. Especially love having him on my
- 1:06:11fantasy team. Tyler Anderson back-to-back.
- 1:06:15Now this is I feel like a name that's been stored under the
- 1:06:17radar a little bit back-to-back seven inning outings he had he
- 1:06:22allowed four hits in each but he has not given up a run yet and
- 1:06:26has eight combined KS. So you know you got some you got
- 1:06:32some arms popping up on these teams that well I won't say
- 1:06:36popping up but possibly re emerging for some of these teams
- 1:06:40that really don't have. Yeah.
- 1:06:42Don't have much to look forward to this this particular season,
- 1:06:46but you know you you love having a good a good story for each
- 1:06:51club and Tyler Anderson is certainly certainly one of them.
- 1:06:59Another Tyler that's been lights out.
- 1:07:02Tyler Glass now 7 innings pitched.
- 1:07:05His last outing against the Twins. 14 KS The only picture
- 1:07:12with I. Don't.
- 1:07:14There's not much. There's not much better to
- 1:07:16watch. It's disgusting.
- 1:07:19Yeah, it's just, it's all it's sold.
- 1:07:23It's just arms and elbows and then this release point is just
- 1:07:28in front of your nose. Would you hear about guys having
- 1:07:33unhittable stuff? Like, think Tyler Glass now?
- 1:07:37Yeah, like his health. His his availability is one
- 1:07:41thing when he is on the mound and he is locked in truly
- 1:07:46unheadable stuff. It's disgusting.
- 1:07:48He was the only pitcher referencing his most recent
- 1:07:51start, the only pitcher with 14 plus KS on fewer than 90 pitches
- 1:07:55in a game since pitches were first tracked in the 88.
- 1:07:59Or since 88, That's crazy. Nowadays.
- 1:08:02That's even crazier. That's efficient right there,
- 1:08:06man, Is that the start? Just saying like what are you?
- 1:08:17Going to say. Helmamoto doesn't need to be an
- 1:08:19Ace. Bueller coming back, He doesn't
- 1:08:22need to be an ace when you have glass.
- 1:08:25Now that can do this like there takes a lot of pressure off a
- 1:08:29lot the rest of the rotation. Yeah, but that's a dangerous
- 1:08:32like you don't want, you don't want guys like Yamamoto and and
- 1:08:36and company settling in, getting comfortable, thinking that like
- 1:08:39all right Glass now is going to lead the staff.
- 1:08:41Because I hate to say it, it's like a Trevor story, a Chris
- 1:08:46Sale kind of situation. You just you you wouldn't wish
- 1:08:51it. You don't want it.
- 1:08:52I'm sure there's Padres and Giants fans out there that would
- 1:08:55disagree. But generally speaking baseball
- 1:08:58fans don't want to see Tyler Glass now on the shelf.
- 1:09:02So I I think you're absolutely right though.
- 1:09:07Like if if he can keep this up, he's off to a great start Three
- 1:09:10and O 225 ERA, 29 KS across four stars.
- 1:09:15Like if you can, if you can put up Tyler Glass now type numbers
- 1:09:20for a a stretch of time this season, they're gonna be in much
- 1:09:26better shape. They're already in great shape
- 1:09:28leading the division. They're.
- 1:09:30But. If he can keep this up, they're
- 1:09:31in a good spot. You got anything else we got?
- 1:09:38We got weekend series to watch and then I gotta, we gotta close
- 1:09:41the book. Let's do it.
- 1:09:42You know, we'll go first. You got it.
- 1:09:45Who do you got? Give me the Battle of PA Give me
- 1:09:49the Pirates at Phillies. We all know what the what the
- 1:09:57Jolly Rogers been looking like lately.
- 1:10:02It's exciting stuff. Phillies I don't think have
- 1:10:04really like, quite turned it on yet, especially offensively.
- 1:10:07I don't think we've seen what we're used to quite yet.
- 1:10:11Still early. It's all good though.
- 1:10:13Game one starts tomorrow. It's a four-game set.
- 1:10:15It's at 6:40 Eastern. You got Jared Jones going
- 1:10:18against Ranger Suarez. Game two Friday night.
- 1:10:22Also 640 Eastern. You have Bailey Falter,
- 1:10:25Christopher Sanchez Game 3 Three O 5 Eastern on Saturday.
- 1:10:32That's Marco Gonzalez finding a trying to find a new start over
- 1:10:36in in Pittsburgh and then as we mentioned before a hot Spencer
- 1:10:42Turnbull. And then game four is the one to
- 1:10:45watch. If you got time for it on Sunday
- 1:10:47it's 135 Eastern. It's the big boys.
- 1:10:50Mitch Keller going against Zach Wheeler, I like it.
- 1:10:57I like it a lot. That's a good one.
- 1:10:59Just hope the pirates can can keep it up For me.
- 1:11:03I got the Rangers at the actually.
- 1:11:06Yeah, Rangers in Houston. First game is Friday, 8:10 PM
- 1:11:11Eastern. You got Dane Dunning going up
- 1:11:12against JP France Saturday. You've got Andrew Heaney versus
- 1:11:20Ronell Blanco who had a an exceptional follow up to his no
- 1:11:25hitter, took a no hitter into the yeah 5th and that.
- 1:11:31Five and 2/3, I think it was, yeah.
- 1:11:34Yeah, 5th or 6th I need so that'll be.
- 1:11:37Heaney to figure it out for my squad.
- 1:11:39Fantasy Squad needs some help. Yeah, figure it out.
- 1:11:42That's at 4:05 on Saturday, and then Sunday we've got a 2:10 PM
- 1:11:49Eastern start. You got Nathan Iavaldi going up
- 1:11:53against Christian Javier and that is a three-game set, so
- 1:11:57that'll be wrapping up Sunday, but that should be a that should
- 1:12:00be a good one. Of note though, it's not not
- 1:12:03necessarily a series that you need to feel obligated to tune
- 1:12:07into, but Jackson Holiday will be making his Camden Yards debut
- 1:12:13on Friday against the Brewers. So if you're into that, sure,
- 1:12:18check that out. I believe, I think we're talking
- 1:12:20about today it is Apple TV. So you know, baseball is a funny
- 1:12:26game sometimes. That's just how the cookie
- 1:12:28crumbles. You'd love to have that.
- 1:12:31You'd love to have that home cooking type of broadcast.
- 1:12:35But alas, Apple TV. So we're probably gonna get a
- 1:12:40bunch of folks that probably haven't watched the Orioles in
- 1:12:45couple years talk about Jackson Holiday making his Candy Nars
- 1:12:48debut. So that'll be fun.
- 1:12:49Good for Apple TV, though, 'cause they're about to gain
- 1:12:51like a million and a half users. I don't think there's anyone in
- 1:12:56Baltimore that's not gonna watch.
- 1:12:57Look, I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna say Apple TV is involved
- 1:13:00in some sort of conspiracy here with the timing of of the call.
- 1:13:04That manager got a cut. But, but I'm just saying, I'm
- 1:13:08not saying anything. I'm just saying.
- 1:13:11That's so good. Closing the book here real quick
- 1:13:13and we'll get out of here. The Cubs meltdown versus the
- 1:13:18Padres? My goodness, you gotta be better
- 1:13:23cubbies. Come on though, I read that the
- 1:13:30Yeah 9. Unanswered That.
- 1:13:33I read that their win probability was at 99% entering
- 1:13:38the bottom of the sixth. Padres scores 7 Fernando with A2
- 1:13:46run Jack in the 8th which was Pimped I.
- 1:13:50Saw I saw a tweet that I like. I can't fully disagree 'cause I
- 1:13:54have witnessed it. Atati's bomb in Petco hits very
- 1:14:01different. I've.
- 1:14:03I get that sense. I'm glad you said that because I
- 1:14:05watched a video and I like, I don't even remember what I said.
- 1:14:09But I said something out loud and I was like, wow.
- 1:14:11It's different there. There's just something that,
- 1:14:14like, you can tell when you're there.
- 1:14:16You can't wait to see what he does.
- 1:14:19The instant you see that, it's gone, like it's it's a show,
- 1:14:24man. It's cool.
- 1:14:26Need to get out there for that I gotta.
- 1:14:28I gotta witness that I might have to just book like a whole
- 1:14:30series, just in case he doesn't. I would recommend if you get a
- 1:14:34day game and a night game, yeah that would because like such a
- 1:14:38beautiful ballpark. Need to need to make it happen.
- 1:14:45More arm injuries. You you alluded to it earlier.
- 1:14:47Nick Pivetta believe was the flexor tendon strain as was
- 1:14:52Josiah Gray with the flexor tendon tendon strain.
- 1:14:58Framber Valdez as well Elbow inflammation just are I
- 1:15:04admittedly I feel like this is it's probably somewhat normal in
- 1:15:10terms of the arm the number of arms that are going down
- 1:15:12comparatively. But I just feel like the
- 1:15:17baseball world is watching a lot more closely now and so we're I
- 1:15:21I know I am at least like I'm, I'm more aware making more note
- 1:15:26of the number of guys that are going down, especially with with
- 1:15:30all the commotion. I think it's the quality of
- 1:15:32names. I think that's that that as
- 1:15:34well. I saw something on on Twitter
- 1:15:37that was like I don't remember who, but they had like a graph
- 1:15:41up of like elbow or shoulder injury.
- 1:15:47IL stints on April 10th, like it was specific to at this point in
- 1:15:53the season and going back to 2018, like this is kind of on
- 1:15:57par. We're pretty much pacing what
- 1:16:00we'd normally pace for the last four or five years.
- 1:16:05I think it's just the the, the names.
- 1:16:06These are big names, big, big names, and we're missing big
- 1:16:12names. When you talk about missing
- 1:16:14Degrom, Verlander, Scherzer, Kershaw, we have names that
- 1:16:17aren't pitching right now. These names show up even more
- 1:16:22and even brighter. So sucks, sucks.
- 1:16:27I'm. I'm tired of it.
- 1:16:28Cole. You know another one.
- 1:16:30Just we have like huge names, you know, Cy Young, names that
- 1:16:35just, oh. It's a huge list.
- 1:16:36We haven't even got. We didn't even get that, but
- 1:16:38it's a huge list. But Sour Cookie crumbles.
- 1:16:43And then the last item I had was the well second to last item I
- 1:16:51had just wanted to throw in there.
- 1:16:53Couldn't let the episode pass without mentioning The Fanatic.
- 1:16:55More teams have since come out that the they're missing their
- 1:16:59uniforms from Fanatics. So I think the latest one we
- 1:17:03heard was the Giants are are are delayed on their city connects
- 1:17:09which I did see a lot of Giants fans say like honestly it's not
- 1:17:12the worst thing to happen like we're we're kind of OK without
- 1:17:15those for a while So to which I to to which I would say you know
- 1:17:21I I may have to agree with you on that one but it's still the
- 1:17:24the issue remains that fanatics the fact that the contract has
- 1:17:28not been terminated the relationship has not been
- 1:17:31severed yet it's beyond me but and then last item did you by
- 1:17:37chance see the Rowdy Teles stepping in for David Bednar
- 1:17:43post game. Big fan, Big fan.
- 1:17:47Changed my perspective a little bit on Rowdy.
- 1:17:50I've been wondering why he continues to get the
- 1:17:52opportunities he does, but he seems like a good clubhouse guy.
- 1:17:56I I I like that and there's no reason, no reason for Pittsburgh
- 1:18:05fans to to be acting that way. Have some patience.
- 1:18:08Give him some time. I know I understand he was
- 1:18:10lights out the last couple years, but like, he'll be fine.
- 1:18:14He'll be OK. Tell you what, man, the Pirates,
- 1:18:21Pirates fans, they they witness a couple back-to-back hot starts
- 1:18:25for these these Pittsburgh Pirates and they get, they get a
- 1:18:28little too big for their britches.
- 1:18:31They start feeling themselves a little bit too much.
- 1:18:33It's like chill out, slow down, relax.
- 1:18:36Who you are, You're still in first place?
- 1:18:38Yeah, Yeah. I mean at the end of the.
- 1:18:39Day You're the You're the Pirates.
- 1:18:41But if anything, that's kind of like a silver lining thing.
- 1:18:43Like on the Yankee conversation, like everyone's feeling like,
- 1:18:46hey, we're doing pretty good. Consider all things considering
- 1:18:48like Judge is not like he's non existent right now and we're
- 1:18:51still winning games. Like it feels good.
- 1:18:53The Pirates should have like a similar, hey, we don't even have
- 1:18:57like our All Star closer on right now and we're still
- 1:18:59getting ball, still getting dubs like we're good.
- 1:19:04He'll figure it out. He'll be fine.
- 1:19:06I don't understand the Boeing. I don't like it.
- 1:19:09And that was weird. One of those blown saves was
- 1:19:12like, you know, a Cobrian Hayes throwaway, I think, right?
- 1:19:16It was someone that like, threw it away and and it went into the
- 1:19:20dugout. So the guy from second scored
- 1:19:22and it was a walk off the other day.
- 1:19:25So, like, I understand, you know, he's not looking great.
- 1:19:29But have some Dang patience, man.
- 1:19:32Especially with pitchers right now.
- 1:19:37Let them. Let them warm up.
- 1:19:40Little warm up let's let's keep this season rolling hopefully.
- 1:19:44Hopefully those of you listening aren't overreacting too much to
- 1:19:48what's been going down the last couple weeks but still got a lot
- 1:19:51of baseball left some some pretty slow starts across the
- 1:19:56league, players and teams alike, but also some some very
- 1:20:00promising starts for for some guys that I think 1:00 we we
- 1:20:03expected but two there's some. Some names that we we got into
- 1:20:08tonight and and some that we didn't even mention yet that are
- 1:20:12are off to some hot starts. So latch onto those.
- 1:20:15Those feel good stories and as always we we wish you and your
- 1:20:21team the best of luck as we continue to get this season
- 1:20:24going. Still early, but I think that'll
- 1:20:29about do it for episode 423. Unless you got anything else, my
- 1:20:32friend. Aaron Boone with his 34th
- 1:20:35ejection. So we're just got to keep that
- 1:20:37train rolling, you know what I mean?
- 1:20:39I'm surprised we made it this far into the season for the
- 1:20:41first one. Let's keep that mental tally
- 1:20:43rolling. Yeah.
- 1:20:44Oh, God bless you guys. You're awesome.
- 1:20:47Don't go chasing curveballs. Love you all and as always,
- 1:20:50looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 1:20:53Until next time, stay filthy.
