- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, Coleen Wit, and today we have very
- 0:05Speaker 1: special guests. Lex Andrea from Poor Minds is in the building.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey y, I'm really excited to have you both, and
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm more excited about what I'm about to eat.
- 0:19Speaker 2: So what are you about to cook up?
- 0:21Speaker 3: Okay, so today we're gonna be making some rowtail dip,
- 0:26Speaker 3: which I feel like is like a staple in black family.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It is.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It really is like we make it for the baby.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Showers, football games, birthday parties, everything growing up. My mom
- 0:37Speaker 3: used to always make these, my aunts, my uncles. It
- 0:40Speaker 3: was at every family gathering.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Okay, I've actually never had the rotail dip. Really really excited.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I saw a bunch of cheese and gooey stuff, uh huh,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and I was happy. I was happy.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I'm with it. So what are all the ingredients in
- 0:54Speaker 2: the rotail dip?
- 0:55Speaker 3: So rotel is it's a cheese dip essentially, So you
- 0:59Speaker 3: got to have your velveta cheese, You got your cream cheese.
- 1:03Speaker 3: We have Italian sausage. You can use any kind of
- 1:05Speaker 3: meat that you want to use, brown beef, but we
- 1:07Speaker 3: use Italian and it's a Turkey Italian Turkey Italian sausage.
- 1:11Speaker 3: So we have onions, you know, whatever kind of dresses
- 1:14Speaker 3: you like, so kind of look at it as like
- 1:16Speaker 3: a fancy kind of taco dip. So you really can
- 1:19Speaker 3: throw whatever you want person in there. This is just
- 1:22Speaker 3: what we like in ours. Yeah.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I like to use a few different cheeses.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Some people just like to use just Belvita bite, but
- 1:29Speaker 3: I have cream cheese, Velveta and pepper jack cheese.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Okay, okay, so we got a lot of flavor and
- 1:35Speaker 1: a lot of gooey that's going on. Yes, So I'm
- 2:01Speaker 1: curious because you have the you have the onions, and
- 2:04Speaker 1: then the was like a baby.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I don't know what that green pepper is called. And
- 2:10Speaker 2: then you have these what are these.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Green ones, green chili, green chilies, and the tomato and
- 2:17Speaker 1: then that's tomatoes. Okay, are you cooking all of those ingredients?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yes? Okay, Well I'm gonna cook.
- 2:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna actually like kind of well, I don't know,
- 2:25Speaker 3: I'm probably not gonna saltate actually, but I'm just gonna
- 2:29Speaker 3: put it all in once the cheese is melty.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Okay, I'm excited, So get to get to cook in.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I'm starving.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I ain't even breakfast or nothing.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Okay, it's gonna be a good little line, it is.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Okay, so I'm gonna cook the meat first, so let
- 2:45Speaker 3: me go ahead and turn this on. Okay, man, I played,
- 2:51Speaker 3: y'all because usually I try to preheat the heaters before
- 2:54Speaker 3: you guys start, So it's.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Oh authentic the whole process.
- 3:00Speaker 3: People be in the comments asking every little thing, well,
- 3:02Speaker 3: what did you put this on?
- 3:03Speaker 4: What did you write?
- 3:04Speaker 2: So now y'all can see they see it stup by stuff.
- 3:07Speaker 4: It's on medium heat, y'all.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So do we have any like butter or oil or
- 3:14Speaker 2: cooking spray? You know what the most I have is
- 3:16Speaker 2: that butter back. Okay, this works. It's so funny because
- 3:19Speaker 2: I saw it and I said, they don't need butter.
- 3:21Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It's just a little were from the South we put
- 3:24Speaker 3: we want the fattiest and everything.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I live and die by butter. I go through like
- 3:29Speaker 1: a stick every two days. Really, it's terrible. Did you
- 3:32Speaker 1: ever go through a phase where you ate butter? My
- 3:34Speaker 1: two year old is actively using butter like it's a snickers. Really,
- 3:39Speaker 1: she was like, coming to kids, you should be like
- 3:40Speaker 1: butter she dips your little fingers in it, she'll bite
- 3:43Speaker 1: it like that's crazy. And then I'll see her and
- 3:45Speaker 1: I have this face of like and then she'll look
- 3:47Speaker 1: at me. Like when I was younger.
- 3:51Speaker 3: I got really really sick one day and my mom
- 3:54Speaker 3: and my sister they were so confused. And while I
- 3:56Speaker 3: was sick, and then my mom went to the sink
- 3:58Speaker 3: and she saw because I used to eat butter and
- 4:00Speaker 3: rice together.
- 4:01Speaker 4: You did, yes, And I put like a whole stick
- 4:04Speaker 4: of butter. And I was so sick.
- 4:05Speaker 3: And she went to the sink and saw this bowl
- 4:07Speaker 3: and it just had butter, this stick caked.
- 4:10Speaker 2: On the bottom.
- 4:10Speaker 4: She's like, that's why your ass.
- 4:12Speaker 2: You can get from it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: I mean, I guess because I ate so much on
- 4:16Speaker 3: one city.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Like I just I was not feeling good.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I'm one of those parents like I give into everything
- 4:22Speaker 1: my daughter does. So when she's like screaming for butter,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm like.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You know what, hand it to her. I'm like, you
- 4:27Speaker 2: ain't nothing else.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So but I never let my friends hear that, because
- 4:31Speaker 1: my friends be always checking my parents and like, yo,
- 4:33Speaker 1: she running you, and I'll be like, so I.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Be handling your baby a stick of butter. It is crazy.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Sometimes sometimes I gotta do what I got to want
- 4:43Speaker 2: whatever you want, but.
- 4:44Speaker 1: I do it in silence. I've never confessed that to anyone.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm sure, like, stick a butter in your purse just
- 4:51Speaker 1: cause you want one. I should, I really should, you know.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Nah, But I love her.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I letter I let her take off a little piece
- 5:01Speaker 1: of butter, a little whatever is left, you know.
- 5:04Speaker 2: But in my mind, you know, one of my other
- 5:06Speaker 2: homegirls said that, I'm like, look, man, he don't eat nothing.
- 5:10Speaker 2: At this point.
- 5:10Speaker 1: If she wants donuts for breakfast, I'm with it, Like
- 5:13Speaker 1: calorie is a calorie, right.
- 5:18Speaker 2: That's true.
- 5:19Speaker 4: That's true.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I understand that I was a very picky eater as
- 5:22Speaker 3: a child, so I totally understand.
- 5:24Speaker 2: But this is one of the things that I love. Yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 2: I was.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I was a skinny, mini person, and I feel like
- 5:31Speaker 1: this is God's way of punishing.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Me all the taxes my mom chold.
- 5:36Speaker 1: To try to get us to gain weight, and now
- 5:38Speaker 1: I get to experience, like what it's like to watch
- 5:40Speaker 1: your kid never eat. Yeah, but take me back to
- 5:43Speaker 1: what was going on in the era of rotel depth.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Okay, So, like I don't know I was a child
- 5:49Speaker 3: and we just used to always My family was really
- 5:52Speaker 3: big on family gathering and so, like I said, we
- 5:54Speaker 3: just used to always have this that every family get together.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So it's kind of like one of those nostalgic thing
- 6:00Speaker 3: for me. But then also when I got to college
- 6:03Speaker 3: and I was kind of struggling, it didn't really have
- 6:04Speaker 3: any money. It was just a quick, simple meal that
- 6:07Speaker 3: you can make for like under twenty dollars and it's.
- 6:09Speaker 2: A great it's a great and it lasts day.
- 6:13Speaker 5: It lasts for days, yeah, like days, Yeah, for sure, really,
- 6:18Speaker 5: And I think for me, like growing up in the South,
- 6:21Speaker 5: like we love cooking, and I think this is like
- 6:23Speaker 5: one of the first meals you kind of learned.
- 6:25Speaker 4: How to cook as a kid because it's easy to
- 6:26Speaker 4: put together, Like you learn how to brown meat when
- 6:29Speaker 4: you like five.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think this is one of the like
- 6:33Speaker 3: the first things I really learned how to cook because
- 6:35Speaker 3: it's just like all you gotta do is brown the meat,
- 6:37Speaker 3: yea cheese, and at everything you want in it. So
- 6:40Speaker 3: that's what I remember. I remember this is like one
- 6:41Speaker 3: of the first things I learned how to cook.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really simple. I feel like you can't miss
- 6:46Speaker 2: it up.
- 6:48Speaker 4: It's full.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So you guys were in college to start at college,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I guess then, so you're in college not you guys
- 6:57Speaker 1: knew each other, didn't know each other then?
- 6:59Speaker 2: No, we had a yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Yeah, So I was actually in college in this small
- 7:04Speaker 3: town in Texas. I'm from Houston, but I went to
- 7:07Speaker 3: school in Nakadochhi's It's like two hours away from Houston.
- 7:10Speaker 3: And like, I was working at Lows and I was
- 7:12Speaker 3: getting paid like a little money. I thought I was
- 7:14Speaker 3: really doing something. But me and my friend we actually
- 7:17Speaker 3: between the two of us because she had a job.
- 7:19Speaker 3: She was working at this department store called Bilks. I
- 7:21Speaker 3: was working at Lows, and we had food stamps, so like.
- 7:24Speaker 2: The actual food sense before it became a card. No,
- 7:27Speaker 2: it was a card.
- 7:28Speaker 3: They had the card back then because this is like
- 7:29Speaker 3: twenty a living. So yeah, so we both had food steps.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I think we was getting like two hundred dollars a
- 7:34Speaker 3: piece a month, and we used to go to the
- 7:35Speaker 3: grocery store and wrack up on everything.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And this was one of my favorite things to cook.
- 7:40Speaker 3: And I used to and buite my friends over and
- 7:41Speaker 3: I would always make them this and like this pasta
- 7:44Speaker 3: dish that was like really cheap to make that iced
- 7:46Speaker 3: to use booba into it.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Was my thing. A lot of you really can't use
- 7:51Speaker 2: it for a lot of things.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I don't think it's real cheese, right because it's I
- 7:55Speaker 1: don't see. Yeah, I learned that the hard way after
- 8:00Speaker 1: being on this show looking for velveda cheese in refrigerated department.
- 8:04Speaker 4: That's one thing. It's like cheese and velvet. It really
- 8:07Speaker 4: don't get cold, which is concerned. You know what I'm saying.
- 8:11Speaker 4: You put in the freezer, it'll come out. It's still
- 8:13Speaker 4: not a yeah, it really won't know.
- 8:17Speaker 3: It's like certain things like that you have to question,
- 8:20Speaker 3: just like how Hawaiian punch never gets cold.
- 8:22Speaker 2: That's how velvet is just one of them things like that.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Doesn't that the freak out.
- 8:28Speaker 4: I'm telling you it don't get cold.
- 8:30Speaker 2: It's just you don't.
- 8:32Speaker 4: But you don't because it gets the job done.
- 8:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, see, I.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Grew up a little season.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's a little bit.
- 8:38Speaker 3: So you put in the garlic, I'm gonna use garlic powder.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna use some ground peprika, some onion powder, a
- 8:45Speaker 3: little Larry's and some black pepper. And the good thing
- 8:49Speaker 3: about using Italian sash is too, is it's already seasoned well.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So you don't have to a you don't have much.
- 8:54Speaker 4: That's why I'm not.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Really gonna use that much. Pretty much everything doesn't really
- 8:57Speaker 2: have salt a need except for this.
- 9:00Speaker 1: The Italian I'll do like a kel soup which is
- 9:02Speaker 1: really really good, and the Italian sausage all the work.
- 9:06Speaker 4: It really does like oh my god.
- 9:08Speaker 2: And I'll be like, yeah, you know, I love you.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Like you said, it's already really flavor yeah, used it
- 9:16Speaker 3: in the spaghetti all that stuff.
- 9:18Speaker 4: So for me, like I grew up kind of spoiled.
- 9:21Speaker 3: So whenever I got to college, I just remember this
- 9:24Speaker 3: being one of my goals because that was like the
- 9:25Speaker 3: first time me really experienced and being broke was like
- 9:28Speaker 3: in college because I was like, for the first time
- 9:30Speaker 3: on my own, I.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Had to have a job and all this stuff.
- 9:33Speaker 1: You couldn't just call your parents be like hey, can
- 9:35Speaker 1: I just get and They're like no, right, So it
- 9:39Speaker 1: was like being an adult, you wanted it so bad, right.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I think for me it was more so of I
- 9:44Speaker 3: had the option to call my mom, but I wanted
- 9:46Speaker 3: to be independent so bad because I was like, I
- 9:48Speaker 3: have to prove this to myself that I can do it,
- 9:50Speaker 3: you know, So I would go get my rotel and
- 9:53Speaker 3: I would really like, you could eat on this for
- 9:54Speaker 3: a good two three days for sure, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
- 9:59Speaker 3: I won't get of it either. And I'm one of
- 10:01Speaker 3: those people I don't care.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I eat what I want when I want, even if
- 10:04Speaker 2: it's not breakfast food.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm the same. First of all, I don't even
- 10:08Speaker 1: like breakfast food unless I cook it. I'm really weird
- 10:11Speaker 1: about it. I feel like nobody can make a lot
- 10:14Speaker 1: of breakfast food the way I yeah, except for I'm
- 10:18Speaker 1: out here in Atlanta, shout out to eighty five South.
- 10:22Speaker 1: But I did try the Atlanta some breakfast spot over here,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and they had like the peach breakfast. Yeah, oh said,
- 10:30Speaker 1: oh man, it's different. So I was like, Okay, some
- 10:33Speaker 1: people can't make breakfast.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Yeah, have a lot of good break they actually have.
- 10:38Speaker 3: I'll say that about Atlanta. We have some really good
- 10:40Speaker 3: breakfast foods out here. Like the breakfast out here is good.
- 10:43Speaker 3: I know people complaining about Atlanta food a lot, but
- 10:45Speaker 3: the breakfast spots out here are.
- 10:46Speaker 2: The breakfast spots.
- 10:48Speaker 1: About the food out here.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I do too a little bit.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I think if you Southern, like if you're from like us,
- 10:54Speaker 3: being from Texas and being Houston specifically, like Houston really
- 10:58Speaker 3: has some of the bits food in a mamrea, I'm
- 11:00Speaker 3: not lying and so moving here. I just think a
- 11:04Speaker 3: lot of the food is just very underwhelming. Like we
- 11:06Speaker 3: have like a lot of cute places like that. You know,
- 11:08Speaker 3: it's like a nice little vibe and a nice aesthetic,
- 11:11Speaker 3: but the food is just always very underwhelming in my opinion,
- 11:15Speaker 3: in comparison to like what I'm used to.
- 11:16Speaker 1: When you say underwhelming, like the flavors, Yeah.
- 11:19Speaker 3: The flavor, A lot of the menu options, Like a
- 11:22Speaker 3: lot of places that I go to, the menus are
- 11:24Speaker 3: very limited.
- 11:25Speaker 2: They don't really have that many options.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I think guys do the hot sauce in the person.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Yes, she always she don't have it.
- 11:35Speaker 2: That's the first thing she asked.
- 11:38Speaker 3: You're just fast, period, Like I'm a sauce girl. I
- 11:40Speaker 3: don't like no dry food sauce.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Okay, So you guys are struggling separately in college getting
- 11:48Speaker 1: the independent things you by choice and you not by choice.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Well, I mean I really I was kind of struggling
- 11:56Speaker 3: a little bit, but yeah, I mean I could have
- 11:57Speaker 3: called my parents, but I think I was kind of
- 11:59Speaker 3: on the same thing because I grew up in the
- 12:01Speaker 3: two parent household and me and my parents were really close.
- 12:03Speaker 2: But I just think I was trying to like prove
- 12:04Speaker 2: my independence to the Yeah, I like that free both.
- 12:09Speaker 1: So how do you guys end up connecting?
- 12:13Speaker 3: This is like years later, years later? Yeah, because we
- 12:17Speaker 3: met Lex and I met. I was like, well it
- 12:21Speaker 3: was like four years later, because you said twenty eleven,
- 12:22Speaker 3: we met twenty fifteen. Yeah, me and you met like
- 12:25Speaker 3: maybe like a year or two after I graduated from
- 12:27Speaker 3: college and I had just moved back to Houston and
- 12:29Speaker 3: you both finished college.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Yeah, we both graduated, no college.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Graduate, but you have the same degree.
- 12:38Speaker 1: I was about to ask that, what's the same what's
- 12:40Speaker 1: the degree mass communication? Okay, okay, yeah, so okay, you
- 12:43Speaker 1: guys are headed in the same direction. Yeah, yeah, all right,
- 12:46Speaker 1: So tell me about the meeting of y'all kindred spirits.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yeah, so we were working at a club bartender. She
- 12:53Speaker 3: had never bartended before, and I really knew my way
- 12:56Speaker 3: around the bar, so we kind of just started hustling together,
- 12:59Speaker 3: like we figured out something that works for her. Like
- 13:01Speaker 3: she's a very she's more believe it or not, She's
- 13:03Speaker 3: way more social than I him.
- 13:05Speaker 4: She's good at talking to people. So she would pretty
- 13:07Speaker 4: much talk to the people.
- 13:07Speaker 3: At the bar and I was making the drinks and
- 13:10Speaker 3: she would be like, oh hey this man, I need
- 13:11Speaker 3: too long islands incredible hulk in this. So I was
- 13:14Speaker 3: making the drinks, she was kind of talking to the
- 13:16Speaker 3: guys getting tips, and that's how we was making money.
- 13:18Speaker 4: So yeah, we had a system and we was definitely
- 13:21Speaker 4: cleaning up.
- 13:26Speaker 2: This right that work.
- 13:27Speaker 3: It's so funny because like us making money now together.
- 13:30Speaker 3: It's funny because that's really how our friendship started. We've
- 13:33Speaker 3: always just made money together. Yeah, like right off top.
- 13:36Speaker 4: So that's how we met.
- 13:38Speaker 3: We started talking and we realized we had the same
- 13:40Speaker 3: degree and that we were interested in kind of like
- 13:43Speaker 3: maybe doing radio type of stuff.
- 13:45Speaker 4: We didn't know exactly what we.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Were to do. Yeah, yeah, ye Houston.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Well I'm from Orange, so I moved to Houston in
- 13:53Speaker 3: what two thousand and seven, So I'm from a small
- 13:57Speaker 3: small town, like it's like two hours from Houston. But yes,
- 14:00Speaker 3: once we started talking and we realized we had a
- 14:01Speaker 3: lot in common, the friendship just started from there.
- 14:05Speaker 2: So yeah, that's how we met, and she ended up
- 14:07Speaker 2: moving to Atlanta.
- 14:08Speaker 3: We stayed in contact for the whole year she was
- 14:11Speaker 3: out there, and then at the time, the girl that
- 14:14Speaker 3: she had moved out here with they ended up going
- 14:16Speaker 3: separate way, so she was like, you might as well
- 14:18Speaker 3: just move out here.
- 14:18Speaker 4: You're not doing nothing.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I was like, that's when I was real broke. I
- 14:22Speaker 2: was real broke.
- 14:23Speaker 3: It's so funny because literally be her was just having
- 14:26Speaker 3: this conversation in the kitchen before we started recording, and
- 14:28Speaker 3: I literally told her exactly the same way the city like.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I was like, I was like, bro you.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Ain't doing nothing about here.
- 14:34Speaker 4: I wasn't doing nothing. I was literally I was down to.
- 14:36Speaker 1: My last three dollars, So you was like, come on there,
- 14:39Speaker 1: come on, I'll be trying with my best friends, Like
- 14:44Speaker 1: come on man.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I literally packed my She told me to move down there,
- 14:48Speaker 3: and three weeks later I had packed.
- 14:49Speaker 4: She was here and I drove to Atlanta and I
- 14:52Speaker 4: was like, we're gonna.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Figure it out.
- 14:53Speaker 4: So I was eating a lot of rotael my first year.
- 14:55Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Some rotel was being made.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Yeah, because we were living to together for like the
- 15:00Speaker 3: first six months that she lived here, Like, she was
- 15:02Speaker 3: staying with me in my apartment and we used to
- 15:04Speaker 3: be busting down some brot. Yes, I was living on
- 15:07Speaker 3: her couch because I had a girl that was supposed
- 15:08Speaker 3: to move out here with me, but she ended up
- 15:10Speaker 3: flaking on me. Okay, So the money I had saved up,
- 15:13Speaker 3: I was saving up to be in a two bedroom
- 15:16Speaker 3: and splitting rent with somebody. So then I had to
- 15:17Speaker 3: change everything and really find a one bedroom. So the
- 15:21Speaker 3: month two months I was supposed to stay there ended
- 15:23Speaker 3: up turning into six months.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, So I was really struggling.
- 15:27Speaker 3: So when we would come home and make the hotel
- 15:29Speaker 3: be like, yes, I know, I know for a fact,
- 15:32Speaker 3: I'm finna eat.
- 15:33Speaker 4: For three days. I don't know what's gonna happen on
- 15:36Speaker 4: that fourth.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Day, but I know I'm good, but I know for
- 15:39Speaker 2: the next three days.
- 15:41Speaker 1: So you're out there out here, and what are you
- 15:44Speaker 1: doing for work to make money? Oh?
- 15:46Speaker 2: I was bar sending.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Yeah, she was still a bartender, but you're not a
- 15:50Speaker 1: real bar She's just like okay, yes.
- 15:54Speaker 2: And cold girls.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, if you asked me anything more than a Hennessy
- 15:58Speaker 3: and coke that's too complicated.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I'm not getting these bartending jobs because you knew that's
- 16:02Speaker 1: where the money was at for you.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Well, yeah, for sure. And then also, you know, moving
- 16:06Speaker 2: to Atlanta.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Even though I had my degree, I worked in oil
- 16:09Speaker 3: and gas for like two years when I first graduated
- 16:12Speaker 3: from college, and it was a cool experience, but it
- 16:14Speaker 3: just wasn't for me. And obviously out here in Atlanta,
- 16:17Speaker 3: oil and gas isn't as big as it is in Texas.
- 16:20Speaker 3: So and I knew I didn't want to work corporate
- 16:22Speaker 3: and bartending money was quick, it was fast, it was easy,
- 16:26Speaker 3: and yeah, I really I actually really liked.
- 16:29Speaker 4: It for a little while.
- 16:29Speaker 3: And so I just knew if I moved out here
- 16:31Speaker 3: and I didn't have anything else that I could do,
- 16:33Speaker 3: I could get a bartender job quick. Because when I
- 16:34Speaker 3: moved here, I didn't have a job, Like I just
- 16:36Speaker 3: was like I'm moving. I packed all my stuff, put
- 16:39Speaker 3: it in the car, and I moved out here, and
- 16:41Speaker 3: then I got a job maybe like two weeks.
- 16:43Speaker 2: After, okay, and during this time ended up going back
- 16:46Speaker 2: to barton.
- 16:46Speaker 3: So yeah, so bartending for me was a little different
- 16:49Speaker 3: because when I graduated from high school and I started bartending,
- 16:53Speaker 3: I was like working at restaurants because during this time,
- 16:56Speaker 3: it wasn't a thing to be like a fine bartender.
- 16:58Speaker 3: In like two thousand and seven, two and eight, all
- 17:00Speaker 3: that stuff kind of started happening, I was saying, like
- 17:02Speaker 3: twenty fourteen fifteen, So when I moved out here, I
- 17:06Speaker 3: started bartending as well. So it's like I had a
- 17:08Speaker 3: job where it was like a cute bartender, but like
- 17:10Speaker 3: we was really bartending, like making the drinking.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Stuff, you know what I'm saying. So I actually had
- 17:14Speaker 4: two jobs.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I was working the bartending job and I was working
- 17:17Speaker 3: at European Wax Center. So I was like literally, yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 3: I was literally getting off of work at European Wax Center,
- 17:27Speaker 3: then going to the club job, make getting off the
- 17:30Speaker 3: club job at like four o'clock in the morning, going home,
- 17:33Speaker 3: rest for a few hours, and then going back to
- 17:35Speaker 3: European Wax Center at like nine in the morning.
- 17:37Speaker 1: So, now, is this because the overhead in Atlanta was
- 17:41Speaker 1: so high for you guys, or were you guys stacking
- 17:43Speaker 1: for a goal at this point?
- 17:46Speaker 2: We were at that point, we were.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Just doing what was work.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I was just trying to Yeah, we were just trying
- 17:51Speaker 2: to make it work. Yeah, I didn't.
- 17:52Speaker 3: I didn't really have no plan at the time, and
- 17:54Speaker 3: I think I was just still trying to figure out
- 17:56Speaker 3: what I wanted to do with my life. So I
- 17:59Speaker 3: think bartending was It's easy in the meantime in between times.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Too, because I didn't even know what I wanted to do.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Like I had the degree in mass communications, and I
- 18:06Speaker 3: had tried my hand at like radio and even like
- 18:09Speaker 3: red carpet events in Houston, and it was so funny,
- 18:12Speaker 3: but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so
- 18:15Speaker 3: I was just kind of winging it. And then when
- 18:17Speaker 3: she moved here, that's what we ended up getting the
- 18:19Speaker 3: idea from one of her exies to like start.
- 18:22Speaker 2: A YouTube channel. Yeah, so take me to that conversation.
- 18:26Speaker 3: So honestly, we started our cause we were like, what
- 18:29Speaker 3: are we gonna do, Like we have to create some
- 18:31Speaker 3: kind of content together, because every time we were outside
- 18:34Speaker 3: and I get it because everybody's like, oh, people tell
- 18:37Speaker 3: me that me and my friends are funny, But it
- 18:38Speaker 3: was crazy because me and Dre couldn't even sit at
- 18:41Speaker 3: like a happy hour without somebody walking past us like
- 18:43Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I was listening to y'all conversation and y'all
- 18:45Speaker 3: are It was like we could. I mean, we would
- 18:47Speaker 3: be in target just having conversations and people be like,
- 18:50Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I was listening to y'all conversation.
- 18:52Speaker 4: So we started the YouTube channel. So we were just
- 18:54Speaker 4: like doing it.
- 18:55Speaker 3: We were cooking on there, doing hair tutorials every making.
- 18:58Speaker 3: We were just trying to figure out some them. So
- 19:00Speaker 3: my ex at the time was listening to us talk.
- 19:03Speaker 3: He was like, y'all need to record this, like this
- 19:05Speaker 3: is funny, and so we were like, okay, let's try it.
- 19:08Speaker 3: So we started wind Down Wednesday and it was just
- 19:10Speaker 3: us sitting down talking and at the time we weren't
- 19:14Speaker 3: really getting any views on anything, but we were probably
- 19:16Speaker 3: getting like twenty views on all the other videos, but
- 19:19Speaker 3: wind Down Wednesday got a good o yeriod.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was like, oh, we don't died something.
- 19:23Speaker 4: We we got something here, you know what I'm saying.
- 19:26Speaker 3: So it's like once Windown Wednesday started getting a little
- 19:28Speaker 3: tension and we were super consistent, so I will say
- 19:32Speaker 3: what this is what twenty seventeen.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Right, This was like yeah, the end of twenty seventeen.
- 19:37Speaker 3: So from twenty seventeen till today, we have not missed
- 19:41Speaker 3: a week of dropping, even when it was wind down
- 19:43Speaker 3: Wednesday and it changed to poor Minds, we've dropped the
- 19:46Speaker 3: episode every single week.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Yeah, we haven't seen what kept you guys consistent if
- 19:50Speaker 1: you weren't making money in the beginning, Oh.
- 19:52Speaker 2: You know what.
- 19:53Speaker 3: It was times where me Alix will like definitely get
- 19:56Speaker 3: into it because I would be like, I don't want
- 19:57Speaker 3: to do this shit anymore because we're not making any
- 20:00Speaker 3: like I need to start making money, Like why are
- 20:02Speaker 3: we doing this?
- 20:03Speaker 2: But I don't know. I think we just always knew
- 20:05Speaker 2: that we had.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Something really good and eventually people were gonna catch on,
- 20:09Speaker 3: and so we just bugged it out. I think more
- 20:13Speaker 3: so for me though, I really didn't feel like I
- 20:15Speaker 3: had a choice. Yeah, I was like this has to
- 20:18Speaker 3: be it.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I was like, cause I don't know what else I'm
- 20:20Speaker 3: gonna do, and I'm like, I know this is what
- 20:21Speaker 3: I'm good at. So I felt like, you know, at
- 20:24Speaker 3: the time, like she was in a relationship with someone
- 20:27Speaker 3: and he was kind of you.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Know, taking care of her and doing you know, things
- 20:30Speaker 4: that he had to do.
- 20:30Speaker 3: But I didn't have that really, So I was like,
- 20:33Speaker 3: Dre was like, look, if something don't pop off, I'm
- 20:35Speaker 3: gonna go be with my man.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I was like, well, look, I ain't doing for me
- 20:38Speaker 2: like I didn't please.
- 20:41Speaker 3: And also too the thing about that too, even at
- 20:44Speaker 3: that time, like it's like I was definitely in a
- 20:46Speaker 3: situation where I guess you could say like I was
- 20:48Speaker 3: kind of straight financially because he was taking care of me.
- 20:51Speaker 2: But then I got to a point to.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Where I didn't like him, yeah anymore, so that it's
- 20:54Speaker 3: like I really need to make my own money now
- 20:57Speaker 3: because I don't want to deal with you anymore. Like
- 20:59Speaker 3: this relationship has Randy's course, And I think a lot
- 21:01Speaker 3: of the time women don't talk about that part of
- 21:04Speaker 3: dealing with somebody who was like, quote unquote taking care
- 21:06Speaker 3: of you, because sometimes.
- 21:07Speaker 2: You don't even really like that.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Men you really don't want to have to deal with him,
- 21:10Speaker 3: but you're dealing with him because of what he's doing.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:13Speaker 3: I think that was your motivation as well, and that
- 21:15Speaker 3: was my motivation to really like get on my ship
- 21:17Speaker 3: with the show.
- 21:18Speaker 4: The show.
- 21:19Speaker 1: So you and you guys are having a good time.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Did you guys have any falling outs during Because you've
- 21:24Speaker 1: been years and you show up on a Wednesday, what
- 21:27Speaker 1: was seen looking like when you're beefing.
- 21:30Speaker 4: We weren't.
- 21:30Speaker 2: You could tell.
- 21:31Speaker 3: You could tell we used to argue on the show.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Their videos are still up because we weren't talking at
- 21:37Speaker 3: at this point. Mind you, I don't have I'm broke.
- 21:41Speaker 3: I'm literally putting ten dollars in my car just to
- 21:43Speaker 3: get to her house to go record. So I'm already mad.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I'm mad at the world right now.
- 21:50Speaker 4: So and then me and her not.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Getting along because we were just having like creative differences.
- 21:55Speaker 3: You know, we're friends, and but we're not getting along
- 21:57Speaker 3: right now, So we would only.
- 21:58Speaker 2: See each other.
- 21:59Speaker 3: It was about a five six month period where we
- 22:01Speaker 3: were only talking on Wednesday, and we were only talking
- 22:05Speaker 3: when we recorded.
- 22:06Speaker 4: We would literally record. I would sit there and edit
- 22:08Speaker 4: the video, post it, and I would leave and without
- 22:10Speaker 4: saying bye. Nope, I'm not saying that.
- 22:14Speaker 2: All right, see you next week?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeah, next see Yeah, that's hilarious. So what would bring
- 22:19Speaker 1: you guys back together when those times would happen.
- 22:22Speaker 3: We just ended up getting to a space where we
- 22:26Speaker 3: really wanted to remain friends because I feel like, you know,
- 22:29Speaker 3: obviously a lot of the time people do shows together
- 22:32Speaker 3: and have businesses together, and it's just businesss like you
- 22:35Speaker 3: don't get along. But I think a big foundational thing
- 22:38Speaker 3: in our relationship has always been how close we are
- 22:40Speaker 3: and how much we love each other.
- 22:42Speaker 2: So I think we just realized, like.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been hard, and we've been doing what we
- 22:46Speaker 3: have to do, but let's figure out how to get
- 22:48Speaker 3: back in a good space with our friendship because I
- 22:50Speaker 3: also think that will help the business too, And it did.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that was always important to us.
- 22:55Speaker 3: I think we finally realized, Okay, poor mine at the time,
- 22:58Speaker 3: wind down Wednesday is.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Cool, but I care about you. The friendship.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Yeah, So I think what helped us is we always
- 23:05Speaker 3: put the friendship for because I'm like, if this stuff
- 23:07Speaker 3: blows up, I need my sister. I don't have family
- 23:09Speaker 3: in Atlanta, you know, right, it's just us. It's just
- 23:12Speaker 3: it's really just us too. It was like, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 3: if I didn't have anything or I needed something, this
- 23:16Speaker 3: is my closest contact that I had.
- 23:19Speaker 2: So it was just like, okay, we have to figure
- 23:21Speaker 2: this out.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Like yeah, you guys, but you would think that at
- 23:36Speaker 1: some point you guys took some kind of breaks. When
- 23:38Speaker 1: I hear you guys haven't missed anything.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I'm like no, girl, even when we were like hating
- 23:42Speaker 3: each other, we still show you, like I'll be there
- 23:45Speaker 3: at five on my way.
- 23:50Speaker 4: We still do what we had.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And it's like looking and I'm outside friends, like try
- 23:55Speaker 1: to kind of get between y'all when y'all was beefing.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. I I mean I wouldn't so much
- 24:00Speaker 2: stay get between us.
- 24:02Speaker 3: But you know, naturally, it's like if someone is my friend,
- 24:06Speaker 3: then they're not really hurt for him, and then vice
- 24:07Speaker 3: versa and we're going through it, they like, oh, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 3: they have so many opinions and stuff, and they're like, well,
- 24:13Speaker 3: I don't think y'all should be cool anymore. I don't
- 24:15Speaker 3: like that she did that either, which is why I
- 24:17Speaker 3: really feel like in a relationship and in a friendship,
- 24:20Speaker 3: you gotta be careful what you tell your friends, family
- 24:22Speaker 3: members if you plan on staying cool with somebody or
- 24:25Speaker 3: if you plan on staying in a relationship with them
- 24:27Speaker 3: because you over it, but now your friends still feel.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Some type of way about it still, yeah, and then
- 24:32Speaker 1: they don't want to like go out if y'all want
- 24:34Speaker 1: to do it, Yeah, they be like, I ain't going
- 24:36Speaker 1: with her, yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 3: And I think it's like I'm thirty four now, you
- 24:42Speaker 3: know when we started this journey, you know I was
- 24:44Speaker 3: when I met her, I was what twenty six, Yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 3: you know.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Twenty six.
- 24:48Speaker 4: It's like so much I've grown. It's a completely different
- 24:51Speaker 4: woman now.
- 24:52Speaker 3: So I think on both sides, it's like she's a
- 24:54Speaker 3: totally different person than she was when we first met.
- 24:56Speaker 3: So I definitely agree with that there were things that
- 24:59Speaker 3: should have stayed between us that we were.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Kind of like being telling our friends. Yeah, you know that.
- 25:05Speaker 4: It was things that we probably should have just you know,
- 25:07Speaker 4: try to work out within us.
- 25:08Speaker 2: But and now we know, you know, we're older.
- 25:10Speaker 1: You learn, you grow, But I promise you that's the
- 25:13Speaker 1: theme of Atlanta this week is everyone who who's doing
- 25:16Speaker 1: business together.
- 25:17Speaker 2: It's like, yo, let's go back to the core. Yeah,
- 25:20Speaker 2: you have to. That's the only way I feel like
- 25:22Speaker 2: it will work.
- 25:23Speaker 3: I mean, well, no, let me not say that, because
- 25:25Speaker 3: it's definitely people who, like I said, do business together
- 25:27Speaker 3: and they don't really fool with each other.
- 25:29Speaker 2: But for us, I felt like it was important for
- 25:31Speaker 2: us to get back to.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Our friendship because I said, because it translates on camera,
- 25:35Speaker 3: like we said, if you were to watch some of
- 25:37Speaker 3: those old episodes, it's so cringe.
- 25:38Speaker 2: It's so cringing because it was obvious we could not
- 25:40Speaker 2: stand each other. We're people in the comments.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Like oh yeah, it was a lot of in the beginning,
- 25:45Speaker 3: we actually lost a lot of listeners because they were like,
- 25:47Speaker 3: I can't watch this. It was like they were like,
- 25:50Speaker 3: this is because all y'all are doing is yelling at
- 25:52Speaker 3: each other, y'all talking over each other, y'all not and
- 25:56Speaker 3: it wasn't enjoyable. So it's like once we noticed, like
- 25:58Speaker 3: we knew we had something special, but we were ruining
- 26:01Speaker 3: it right, and it was like, okay, we got to
- 26:03Speaker 3: get back to like having fun on camera, like nobody
- 26:07Speaker 3: wants to tune in to drama every week like this,
- 26:09Speaker 3: ain't you know?
- 26:09Speaker 4: Love and hip hop? Like we're not trying to do
- 26:11Speaker 4: all that.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And then we saw so many people still to this day,
- 26:14Speaker 3: we're seeing people start a podcast with their friend and
- 26:17Speaker 3: they fall out and they hate each other.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Podcast is going, friendship is going all.
- 26:20Speaker 3: That so and I don't know what it is about
- 26:23Speaker 3: business that like makes people's friendship always not work out always.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Well, that was gonna be my next Like you guys
- 26:31Speaker 1: are at almost three hundred episodes.
- 26:35Speaker 2: When did money into the scene. Like I want to say,
- 26:40Speaker 2: did we get our first check in like twenty nineteen?
- 26:44Speaker 2: It was like an ad chicken. It was like eighty
- 26:45Speaker 2: six dollars.
- 26:46Speaker 1: We were so happy, Okay, yeah, but not real but
- 26:49Speaker 1: not really you start twenty seventeen and it wasn't until when.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Like nineteen it was like it was an eighty dollars
- 26:55Speaker 2: check and we were like, okay, progress and it was
- 27:00Speaker 2: it was a it was a like a monetization check.
- 27:03Speaker 2: It was a chase.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Like we were doing ads with some ad company that
- 27:07Speaker 3: ended up firing eventually because we weren't doing ads right. Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 3: they sent us an eighty six dollars check and we
- 27:13Speaker 3: were like super heavy about did you.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Guys like take a picture and post it somewhere or
- 27:16Speaker 2: frame it?
- 27:17Speaker 1: No?
- 27:18Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 27:18Speaker 4: The third I have, I don't even know.
- 27:20Speaker 2: We should have kept to those checks.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I like try to do in my house.
- 27:25Speaker 2: I do.
- 27:26Speaker 1: My dad had this conversation with me, and I think
- 27:28Speaker 1: a lot of successful people go through this. It's like
- 27:31Speaker 1: you're so in the grind that you forget all the accomplishments.
- 27:35Speaker 1: When Dad started having a rule like, yo, maybe you
- 27:37Speaker 1: should start hanging this stuff.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Up on your right.
- 27:39Speaker 1: So my home I call it like the hall of Fame.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I don't put it out in the living room or anything,
- 27:44Speaker 1: but if you go through the hallways, like if you
- 27:46Speaker 1: go upstairs in my house, you'll see like a lot
- 27:49Speaker 1: of different things that I did over time. And that
- 27:52Speaker 1: was something my dad was just like, cause you're you're
- 27:54Speaker 1: losing it. And Nick used always tell me that. He'd
- 27:57Speaker 1: always be like, yo, take two seconds to take it in.
- 28:01Speaker 4: It on email somewhere somewhere.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but I saw you guys studio. It's beautiful.
- 28:08Speaker 1: It would be nice to see that in that beautiful studio,
- 28:11Speaker 1: like that first that first little check.
- 28:13Speaker 3: I think it's somewhere in our email, but yeah, that
- 28:15Speaker 3: was the first time we got paid. And so at
- 28:17Speaker 3: that point it was like, Okay, this is possible, Like
- 28:20Speaker 3: we can figure something out.
- 28:23Speaker 1: So did you just like to check it?
- 28:26Speaker 4: I even go to lunch with it. I don't even
- 28:29Speaker 4: remember what we did.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I don't even know what we did with it, because
- 28:32Speaker 2: I know we didn't do much.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Because we didn't have a bank account for poor mind
- 28:36Speaker 3: at that time either, So I really don't remember what
- 28:38Speaker 3: we did with it. So mind you at this time too,
- 28:41Speaker 3: we're building our YouTube page as well. So YouTube had
- 28:45Speaker 3: actually changed the rules to how on how to get monetized,
- 28:48Speaker 3: So you had to have a certain amount of watch
- 28:50Speaker 3: hours and a certain amount of subscribers. You have to
- 28:54Speaker 3: have a thousand subscribers before you could get a check, yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 3: and like something crazy number of watch time hours. So
- 28:59Speaker 3: when we only met that threshold, we were like, okay,
- 29:02Speaker 3: so now we've got to start your YouTube checks. But
- 29:04Speaker 3: our YouTube checks were like you had to reach one
- 29:07Speaker 3: hundred dollars before they even pay you out, so then
- 29:09Speaker 3: you would have to wait months sometimes before we could
- 29:11Speaker 3: get the YouTube yeah, because it was like we were
- 29:13Speaker 3: making like six dollars a month on our views. So
- 29:17Speaker 3: it's like it wasn't really anything.
- 29:18Speaker 1: But and you guys still kept grinding instant and what
- 29:21Speaker 1: is your family and your friends thing at this time?
- 29:24Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 29:25Speaker 3: My mom was just like, girl, I don't understand why
- 29:28Speaker 3: you don't go get a job because you have a degree.
- 29:30Speaker 1: But you guys were working during the during the did
- 29:33Speaker 1: I miss that?
- 29:34Speaker 2: Did you? Were you guys not working?
- 29:35Speaker 3: Well?
- 29:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I will work.
- 29:37Speaker 3: It was but for like a year and a half,
- 29:39Speaker 3: I wasn't well, yeah, the man yeah. I was still
- 29:43Speaker 3: working at European wax Center. My mom was just like
- 29:45Speaker 3: my mom used to get on line for me and
- 29:49Speaker 3: be applying jobs for me.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Oh, you need to go here, you need to go.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Here, honey. She was like, what are you doing. I
- 29:54Speaker 2: wonder why y'all took the Pride for route. She was
- 29:57Speaker 2: over here filling out a wor.
- 30:00Speaker 3: She was like, Hey, there's this place that's interviewing. But
- 30:03Speaker 3: it was crazy because we had a little bit of
- 30:06Speaker 3: money coming in, but it wasn't enough. And I had
- 30:07Speaker 3: a conversation with Dre and I was like, Hey, I'm
- 30:09Speaker 3: not gonna lie to you. If something kind of doesn't
- 30:12Speaker 3: really happen in like the next six months to a year,
- 30:14Speaker 3: I'm going to go back to school.
- 30:16Speaker 2: She did so.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I said I was going to go back to school
- 30:18Speaker 3: for dental hygien I was gonna be a dental hygienis.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I was like, I looked up the program. I was
- 30:23Speaker 3: like talking to my mom about it. I was like, okay,
- 30:25Speaker 3: I knew what program I was going to apply to.
- 30:26Speaker 3: So I was like at the top of the year,
- 30:28Speaker 3: towards like summertime, if nothing happens, like I'm just.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Gonna have to go back to school, and that's how
- 30:33Speaker 2: many years? Then like three, that's about three.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Yeah, we were about three years in because I'm like, what, yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 1: She'd be like three months left.
- 30:44Speaker 3: She was. She was like okay, girl, Okay, now what's
- 30:47Speaker 3: going on with y'all? And then it's like the content
- 30:49Speaker 3: that we were talking about too was a lot for
- 30:51Speaker 3: my mom. Like my mom was cool like me and
- 30:53Speaker 3: my mom always had a great relationship, but she was
- 30:55Speaker 3: just like you did, yeah, like this is stuff is
- 31:00Speaker 3: going to be on the internet forever, and I'm just like, Okay,
- 31:02Speaker 3: it has it has a purpose, you know, like we
- 31:05Speaker 3: just have to keep pushing.
- 31:06Speaker 2: So but they definitely didn't see the vision.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Nobody did.
- 31:11Speaker 3: And then especially with me, like I have, I have
- 31:13Speaker 3: always been a person who like hops from one thing
- 31:16Speaker 3: to another thing, Like I've always had an issue like
- 31:19Speaker 3: staying consistent, cause I get bored easily.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Now that your parents were starting to meddle a little
- 31:25Speaker 1: bit more, did you ever hit the six month milestone?
- 31:28Speaker 3: So what happened during that six month mark was we
- 31:32Speaker 3: had met DJ scream out here. He's a very influential
- 31:35Speaker 3: person like in the media space, and we had met
- 31:38Speaker 3: him through a guy that we know named Kodak.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Shout out to Kodak.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Kodak was somebody that we had worked.
- 31:44Speaker 3: With closely in media, like he would kind of get
- 31:47Speaker 3: us little bookings and every now and then just for
- 31:48Speaker 3: exposure and things like that. He's in the podcasting world
- 31:51Speaker 3: as well, and so he had introduced us to Screaming.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Scream was like, Hey, I got this radio show I
- 31:56Speaker 3: want you all to do. So y'all come up to
- 31:58Speaker 3: the radio station like every whin Wednesday and come do
- 32:02Speaker 3: the radio show with me.
- 32:02Speaker 2: So it's like an hour long Oh nice.
- 32:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 3: So it wasn't like it wasn't like a paid thing,
- 32:07Speaker 3: but it was more so the exposure. So I think
- 32:09Speaker 3: once we did that, everybody was like hold on, like okay,
- 32:13Speaker 3: like y'all doing something. And so at this point it
- 32:15Speaker 3: was still called wind down Wednesday. So when we were
- 32:17Speaker 3: introduced to Scream, he was like, you know what if
- 32:19Speaker 3: you do hashtag wind down Wednesday, a million things pop up.
- 32:22Speaker 3: He was like, y'all have something special. Y'all need to
- 32:24Speaker 3: change the name, Like y'all need to make it where
- 32:27Speaker 3: it's hashtag whatever. Y'all areymous, it's gonna Drea and Lex
- 32:31Speaker 3: are gonna pop, right, So I think this was a
- 32:34Speaker 3: synonymous what do you mean like, because.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Like, you know, like people are going to associate that
- 32:39Speaker 2: name with us.
- 32:41Speaker 3: So we had to change wind down Wednesday because if
- 32:42Speaker 3: you hashtag wind down Wednesday, everything so many different things.
- 32:46Speaker 3: But so I think when we met Scream, that was
- 32:48Speaker 3: the first time we were like, Okay, we need to
- 32:50Speaker 3: come up like with a business plan and you know,
- 32:53Speaker 3: we need to see and mind you.
- 32:54Speaker 4: At this time, we have a lot of friends who
- 32:55Speaker 4: were podcasters. They're going on tour and they're making money.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with the Black Fact I see all of that.
- 33:01Speaker 2: I'll be like, yo, you teach me.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Yeah, So.
- 33:07Speaker 2: That's what it was.
- 33:07Speaker 3: At this time, we were We're going to all these
- 33:10Speaker 3: people's live shows. We're just on outside. We're trying to
- 33:14Speaker 3: make ourselves be seen. So I think once we started
- 33:17Speaker 3: doing the radio, Scream had opened his own studio, so
- 33:20Speaker 3: we's changed studios because we were recording in her living
- 33:23Speaker 3: room at this point.
- 33:24Speaker 2: So then we moved from her living room to an
- 33:26Speaker 2: actual studio and.
- 33:28Speaker 3: We kind of had a little team, I guess because
- 33:30Speaker 3: at the time Iran was like our audio guy working
- 33:33Speaker 3: with us. We started uploading the view the episodes on
- 33:37Speaker 3: DJ Screams YouTube. So that's when the view started going
- 33:40Speaker 3: up because photographer. Remember yeah, we had a photographer, We
- 33:42Speaker 3: had an intern.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Like it was like.
- 33:46Speaker 2: It was like the beginning stages of us building our teams. Yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 2: this is before the six month deadline.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Yeah, so I was still working. I was still working,
- 33:54Speaker 3: but I'm like, okay, we're we have a plan. Yeah,
- 33:59Speaker 3: and we were able to get the end turn because
- 34:00Speaker 3: Kodak showed us how to like, you know, give credit
- 34:02Speaker 3: to the school so she could still you know, come
- 34:04Speaker 3: work for us technically, but we didn't have the money
- 34:07Speaker 3: to pay her, but we needed help, you know what
- 34:08Speaker 3: I'm saying.
- 34:09Speaker 2: So we were kind of learning like the loops of things.
- 34:11Speaker 3: And at this point we're still not making money, but
- 34:14Speaker 3: we have a professional setup. You know.
- 34:16Speaker 4: It looks like a show.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, and now it's like your manifestation is like
- 34:24Speaker 1: manifesting even more. Right, So, yeah, where does poor minds
- 34:29Speaker 1: take over? Right?
- 34:30Speaker 3: So, once he told us to change the name, we're
- 34:32Speaker 3: like sitting down because and we're like brainstorming, and we
- 34:36Speaker 3: were like we drink during the show, like that's the
- 34:39Speaker 3: main thing, Like we like to get turned during the show,
- 34:41Speaker 3: so we're like drunk, No, drunk sounds too kind of trash.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Can think of a name that we keep in mind
- 34:48Speaker 3: that can be marketable so you know, people don't feel like,
- 34:52Speaker 3: oh my god, this is We're not putting drunk this
- 34:54Speaker 3: on our logo or whatever.
- 34:56Speaker 2: So we were like poor behavior, poor the city.
- 35:00Speaker 3: And we always opened the episode with saying a drunk
- 35:02Speaker 3: mind speak sober thoughts. So we were like, what about
- 35:05Speaker 3: poor minds because you know, we pouring it up and
- 35:08Speaker 3: we're speaking what's on our mind because of the drinks.
- 35:10Speaker 2: So we were like, right, I think we like it.
- 35:13Speaker 3: And that was actually one of the first ones we
- 35:14Speaker 3: came up with. We brainstorm for maybe ten minutes about
- 35:17Speaker 3: that name. We did yeah, and it just stuck and
- 35:20Speaker 3: it was like, I think this the one. Yeah, it
- 35:22Speaker 3: just at first I was like and then we made
- 35:24Speaker 3: the logo, so we finally had a logo. So it
- 35:26Speaker 3: was just like starting to become an actual real podcast.
- 35:30Speaker 1: So it was screaming like more of a mentor slat
- 35:33Speaker 1: or was it like a business Was he like a
- 35:35Speaker 1: business partner?
- 35:36Speaker 3: I would say yeah, he was more like a mentor
- 35:38Speaker 3: because we weren't really business partners like we didn't really
- 35:41Speaker 3: get into like business partnership until we started working with
- 35:44Speaker 3: eighty five Yeah, okay in twenty nineteen, about a year
- 35:47Speaker 3: after that. We have been doing the radio for a
- 35:49Speaker 3: year and that's when oh yeah, we had we So
- 35:52Speaker 3: we were doing a radio for like a year and
- 35:54Speaker 3: then we ended up Carlos ended up reaching out to
- 35:58Speaker 3: us and was saying that he would like come on
- 36:00Speaker 3: poor minds.
- 36:01Speaker 2: So he pulled so he pulled up.
- 36:04Speaker 3: To my house and he recorded with me at the house.
- 36:06Speaker 3: And then that's kind of what built the relationship that
- 36:08Speaker 3: we had with them. And then like you know, after
- 36:10Speaker 3: a year or so, I guess he was like kind
- 36:12Speaker 3: of watching what we were doing and he was like, oh,
- 36:14Speaker 3: I want y'all to come up to the studio and
- 36:16Speaker 3: come on eighty five South.
- 36:17Speaker 2: And so we came up here, we did that.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Episode with them, and maybe like three or four months after,
- 36:24Speaker 3: Chad and all of them wanted to sign us.
- 36:27Speaker 4: It was like literally like.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Because yeah, because literally when you know, we were still
- 36:35Speaker 3: recording at our house when Carlos came on.
- 36:37Speaker 1: So that year after because it was before the jails,
- 36:40Speaker 1: it was before.
- 36:41Speaker 3: The Carlos had recorded with us. But then you know,
- 36:43Speaker 3: people started being like, okay, who are these girls? And
- 36:45Speaker 3: then you know, we met Scream. Then we get into
- 36:48Speaker 3: the studio, we're doing radio and Carlos is like on
- 36:50Speaker 3: the side kind of like watching us, like dang, I
- 36:52Speaker 3: see they still doing their things. So he was like, okay, y'all,
- 36:54Speaker 3: come on eighty five. We went on eighty five. The
- 36:56Speaker 3: episode goes crazy, like it end up getting like a
- 36:59Speaker 3: million views a week. Wow, So everybody's like, who are
- 37:02Speaker 3: these girls? Like it came out of nowhere. So we
- 37:05Speaker 3: ended up having a meeting with Chad and Ryan about
- 37:08Speaker 3: three months later, and that's when like the work started.
- 37:11Speaker 3: So we ended up moving into the studio with eighty
- 37:14Speaker 3: five at their old studio at the time, and this
- 37:17Speaker 3: is when the numbers started going up because the production
- 37:21Speaker 3: value just went through the roof, Like you know, they
- 37:24Speaker 3: had a team already.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Let me tell you just pauls for a second shout
- 37:27Speaker 1: out to eighty five South because I literally I've been
- 37:31Speaker 1: telling everybody I can't even stop thinking about them.
- 37:33Speaker 2: It's so hard to even go to sleep.
- 37:36Speaker 1: We came here like a year and a half ago
- 37:39Speaker 1: during Black Effect Festival, and we taped a couple of
- 37:41Speaker 1: episodes but come back here.
- 37:43Speaker 2: They built this whole set and did all this work,
- 37:45Speaker 2: and you're.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Just like, it's kind of speechless. It's nice, it's amazing.
- 37:49Speaker 1: It's an amazing experience. I like, I don't know the
- 37:52Speaker 1: words describe the level of happiness and appreciation at the
- 37:55Speaker 1: same time. But you like, to me, this is like love,
- 37:58Speaker 1: but my love lagage is also certain. Yeah, but like
- 38:02Speaker 1: this is a lot of service right and beyond. I'm
- 38:05Speaker 1: telling you, it's really I can't. Yeah, you guys respond,
- 38:11Speaker 1: she was.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I was, yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 4: That one, No, this was fine. I was drinking out
- 38:16Speaker 4: of this one.
- 38:17Speaker 2: But don't matter. We'll be drinking after.
- 38:18Speaker 4: Yeah, it don't matter.
- 38:19Speaker 3: But so yeah, I think like when we signed to
- 38:22Speaker 3: eighty five, everything happened, and it happened quickly.
- 38:25Speaker 2: But a lot of times people.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Were introduced to us as eighty five being signed to
- 38:30Speaker 3: eighty five, but they didn't realize at that point, we
- 38:32Speaker 3: have been putting in four years of work, you know,
- 38:35Speaker 3: to get to the point to where we could sit
- 38:37Speaker 3: on the car couch with Carlos. So when we met
- 38:40Speaker 3: when we signed with eighty five, I was I quit
- 38:42Speaker 3: my job.
- 38:43Speaker 1: A year later.
- 38:46Speaker 2: That Yeah, it was nice. I was so happy because
- 38:52Speaker 2: I was trying to convince her for years.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Yeah, they were all her job. I cried, I didn't
- 38:56Speaker 4: want to quit my job actually made me quit.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I love those stories. Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 4: So for me, it was like I was struggling so long,
- 39:03Speaker 4: eating a lot, like I said, eat a lot of
- 39:05Speaker 4: roads here. When I had moved to Atlanta.
- 39:07Speaker 3: That was probably the brokest I have ever been in
- 39:09Speaker 3: my entire life. So from twenty seventeen to twenty twenty one,
- 39:13Speaker 3: it was a literal struggle for me. I would literally
- 39:16Speaker 3: have to put two paychecks together just to pay my rent.
- 39:18Speaker 4: Like That's how it was for me.
- 39:20Speaker 3: So whenever I was able to quit my job, I
- 39:22Speaker 3: was at my job and I'm like, at this point,
- 39:25Speaker 3: I'm only working two days a week because I'm so
- 39:27Speaker 3: busy with eighty five stuff, poor mine stuff.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Are you going on the road too with them or
- 39:31Speaker 2: are you just doing the taping? No, So at that time,
- 39:35Speaker 2: we had only just did the podcast like with them,
- 39:38Speaker 2: and then I think a few months later we got
- 39:41Speaker 2: signed and then we just started recording at the studio.
- 39:43Speaker 2: We hadn't even started touring.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Or yeah, when I started touring it, but like we
- 39:46Speaker 3: were getting opportunities to go on other people's shows, or
- 39:49Speaker 3: we would have an opportunity where someone was in town
- 39:51Speaker 3: and we needed to record with them, so I would
- 39:53Speaker 3: have every off work, right, So it was like sometimes
- 39:55Speaker 3: I would have to call in the work because like,
- 39:57Speaker 3: at the end of the day, I'm not going to
- 39:58Speaker 3: work and I'm missing out on opportunity these right. So
- 40:00Speaker 3: I got my schedule down to two days a week,
- 40:02Speaker 3: and then my boss pulls me to the side and
- 40:04Speaker 3: she's like, she's loving this for me, but the people
- 40:06Speaker 3: above her, they were not liking.
- 40:09Speaker 2: To this day. Side note, I used to be at.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Work uploading Poor Minds episodes at the time because before
- 40:17Speaker 3: we started working with eighty five. I still think to
- 40:20Speaker 3: this day, I had left the logging on because you
- 40:22Speaker 3: remember we were loading stuff.
- 40:23Speaker 2: You are you are?
- 40:26Speaker 3: You still got deleting. I think somebody either I worked
- 40:29Speaker 3: with or somebody above me. I mean they deleted our
- 40:32Speaker 3: whole and we had to start over.
- 40:34Speaker 2: So it was like, luckily, it was like.
- 40:36Speaker 1: How are you not?
- 40:37Speaker 2: Like did you guys cry during that whole thing? We
- 40:41Speaker 2: were really upset by you.
- 40:42Speaker 3: But it was like in the beginning stages of our YouTube,
- 40:44Speaker 3: so we didn't have like a lot of content uploading it.
- 40:48Speaker 4: But I still think to this.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Day, somebody I was working with was like hating and
- 40:52Speaker 3: being because they used to tell me all the time,
- 40:54Speaker 3: you can't do this at work. But I'm like, look,
- 40:56Speaker 3: I'm trying to hustle. I don't have a computer. I
- 40:58Speaker 3: gotta upload this content.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Oh you didn't even have a computer.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Computer.
- 41:02Speaker 4: I did not have a computer. So I would go
- 41:03Speaker 4: to work.
- 41:04Speaker 3: I'd be like, dre, I'm about to get I'm about
- 41:05Speaker 3: to upload it. Give me to give me a few seconds.
- 41:07Speaker 3: So I'd be like, at work, I'm deleting things. I'm
- 41:09Speaker 3: trying to clear out the.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Cookies and all that stuff.
- 41:12Speaker 4: So yeah, so I was at work. Yeah, so I'm
- 41:16Speaker 4: clearing out everything.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I'm deleting the history everything, Like I'm just clearing the
- 41:19Speaker 3: computer out everything I do because I'm like, I need
- 41:22Speaker 3: this job, but I have to upload it.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Yeah. And she was in on it too. Yeah, you
- 41:26Speaker 2: know what. I was like, girl, get it going on.
- 41:30Speaker 3: And I was here for it because at the time too,
- 41:32Speaker 3: I just had my own struggles and stuff going on
- 41:34Speaker 3: because my dad had got sick and my dad actually
- 41:37Speaker 3: ended up passing away like a few weeks before we
- 41:40Speaker 3: found out that we had to go on eighty five South,
- 41:43Speaker 3: so I just had to get it together and then
- 41:45Speaker 3: we went on there and in a few months later
- 41:47Speaker 3: we ended up, you know, like I said, getting signed.
- 41:49Speaker 2: But life was just kind of hard. It was like, finally,
- 41:53Speaker 2: all of this hard work we've been putting it in
- 41:55Speaker 2: this paying off.
- 41:57Speaker 3: So like, yeah, I when I, like I said, when
- 41:58Speaker 3: I was at work, my boss pulled me to the side.
- 42:00Speaker 3: She was like, hey, look, basically, the regional managers are like,
- 42:03Speaker 3: you working two days a week is not enough because
- 42:06Speaker 3: you signed up to be full time and you cannot
- 42:08Speaker 3: be part time, So you're gonna have to be here
- 42:11Speaker 3: five days a week or we're gonna have to let
- 42:13Speaker 3: you go. And I was like, I was like, well,
- 42:16Speaker 3: I'm just gonna have to leave, Like I just do
- 42:19Speaker 3: not have the time. And I cried on the way
- 42:21Speaker 3: home because I was like, I don't have a job anymore.
- 42:25Speaker 3: And I was like, I really hope this takes work.
- 42:27Speaker 3: I was like, but at this time we're making money though,
- 42:30Speaker 3: Like we're not making.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Money, like we are enough to like survive.
- 42:33Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I can pay my rent.
- 42:35Speaker 3: I had already paid my car off, so it's like
- 42:37Speaker 3: I can pay my insurance, I can pay my bills,
- 42:40Speaker 3: so I was good.
- 42:41Speaker 4: I just like that Sey, Yeah, of course yes.
- 42:44Speaker 2: And it's hard to give up that security.
- 42:46Speaker 4: It was it was for me so but it worked out.
- 42:49Speaker 4: That was in twenty twenty one, so it's like we
- 42:51Speaker 4: in twenty twenty four hours and we up like the
- 42:55Speaker 4: Rotael though I still love.
- 43:11Speaker 2: What is some of the like have you been out
- 43:13Speaker 2: now that you're up?
- 43:14Speaker 1: Like to be on you got the bill and been
- 43:18Speaker 1: like I got this, but what was that? What was
- 43:20Speaker 1: that high?
- 43:21Speaker 2: The expensive dish that you ate?
- 43:23Speaker 3: I'm just curious an expensive dish that I think that
- 43:26Speaker 3: where you were like, okay, because.
- 43:28Speaker 4: I'm not gonna lie, we go out, we have but
- 43:31Speaker 4: are you paying for it?
- 43:33Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 43:34Speaker 2: Okay to have like I just like I got it,
- 43:37Speaker 2: or she'll be like I got it.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Okay, because you know, I guess it's great.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Well, you guys have the do you do the company card?
- 43:43Speaker 2: Be like company.
- 43:46Speaker 1: Receipts something I have learned so when I first got
- 43:53Speaker 1: into business, I would say the receipts. Now that I
- 43:55Speaker 1: don't know if before I just never knew this, but
- 43:57Speaker 1: credit cards at the end of the year they break
- 43:59Speaker 1: everything down so freaking well, I'll keep my P and L.
- 44:04Speaker 1: But then for backup, especially because me and my account
- 44:07Speaker 1: we have discussions.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Be or we press some men.
- 44:10Speaker 1: We gotta agree on how much I'm paying. Yeah, if
- 44:13Speaker 1: we don't agree, we got to reevaluate back.
- 44:16Speaker 2: You're like, we're like, let me go.
- 44:18Speaker 1: And like, even we just had this discussion, he called me.
- 44:21Speaker 1: I was like on the phone, my friend. I said, shit,
- 44:23Speaker 1: he calling me. It's never good. So I was like,
- 44:25Speaker 1: what's going on? He was like, so we got to
- 44:27Speaker 1: try and avoid this tax. So I'm trying to see
- 44:29Speaker 1: how to get you over here. I'm like, wait what
- 44:31Speaker 1: So anyways, so then I said to him, I say,
- 44:33Speaker 1: you know what.
- 44:34Speaker 2: It's all good.
- 44:35Speaker 1: You know, I'm sure if I go back to my
- 44:37Speaker 1: credit card receipts, I'll find something that I thought that
- 44:39Speaker 1: I just completely forgot about. And I love that about
- 44:42Speaker 1: the credit card receipts because they just fucking itemized everybody
- 44:46Speaker 1: better than the bank cards. Yeah that's my goal to now,
- 44:50Speaker 1: by the way.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think with us, it's like it's just
- 44:52Speaker 3: it's a good feeling, like it is. I never really
- 44:55Speaker 3: celebrate my birthday. I've never been like a big birthday girl.
- 44:58Speaker 3: So like last year was like the first time, like
- 45:00Speaker 3: I really celebrated my birthday with my friends and I
- 45:02Speaker 3: like rented out a house in Miami for all of us,
- 45:05Speaker 3: and it was just kind of like a moment I'm like, damn,
- 45:07Speaker 3: like this is what I'm doing for my birthday. On
- 45:09Speaker 3: my thirtieth birthday, I got fired from another job that
- 45:11Speaker 3: I had, Yeah, and I walked to Drea's house and
- 45:13Speaker 3: I was like, I remember she poured me a shot
- 45:15Speaker 3: of hend and see it and I'm like, bro, what
- 45:16Speaker 3: are we going to do?
- 45:17Speaker 2: I need a freaking job.
- 45:19Speaker 3: Only for me four years later to be like buying
- 45:22Speaker 3: a nice house on the water, not buying, but renting
- 45:25Speaker 3: a nice house on the water for my friends.
- 45:27Speaker 2: And like, you know, yeah, it was like a journey.
- 45:32Speaker 4: It's been.
- 45:34Speaker 2: But I left that we you know, stuck it out.
- 45:37Speaker 4: I'm still cheap though, I'm very much still.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Cheap, though cheap or because there's like I was telling
- 45:43Speaker 1: someone I was talking to, I was like, there's two
- 45:44Speaker 1: birds was cheap there. Because one of my brothers, I'm
- 45:48Speaker 1: gonna just say one of my older brother he liked
- 45:50Speaker 1: the type of like when you go on a day
- 45:52Speaker 1: with him like I promised you I went. We was
- 45:54Speaker 1: in our twenties. We met up at like McDonald's and
- 45:56Speaker 1: he tried to split a value me and with this girl.
- 45:58Speaker 1: I'm like, bros, see yeah, I'm just order whatever whatever
- 46:04Speaker 1: you want. Let's just not do Or he'll go to
- 46:06Speaker 1: the registered and be like the Texas Ero point six piper.
- 46:09Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, why are you doing this right now?
- 46:10Speaker 1: And he'll quiz the person on what the tax rate?
- 46:13Speaker 2: One? Okay, now is there? Or are you like more
- 46:18Speaker 2: frugal still a little?
- 46:20Speaker 3: I think I'm still frugal, especially when it comes to
- 46:22Speaker 3: our business, Like when we're on tour, I'm the one that's.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Like, what what is this on the car? What is
- 46:27Speaker 2: this on?
- 46:27Speaker 3: Oh? This is But I'm comparing hotel, I'm like, I
- 46:31Speaker 3: don't care cause she looks she's more bougie to me.
- 46:33Speaker 2: She's like, I'm not staying in this hotel.
- 46:34Speaker 3: And I'll be like, okay, so we're gonna stay in
- 46:36Speaker 3: this hotel, but let me look at these flights and
- 46:38Speaker 3: see where I can move some money right to make
- 46:40Speaker 3: it work.
- 46:40Speaker 4: So I'm definitely the one that's kind of more.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Like I'm just cheap.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Yeah, well yeah, I'm not really that cheap. I don't
- 46:46Speaker 3: one of those people. I'm one of those people. I
- 46:48Speaker 3: don't mind paying anything for a convenience. Yeah, Like, and
- 46:51Speaker 3: I don't mind delegating task to other people. Lex is
- 46:54Speaker 3: also one of those people too, where it's like, even
- 46:57Speaker 3: in the beginning stages of the show, she used to
- 46:58Speaker 3: like wants to start over. Whenever we will be recording,
- 47:01Speaker 3: She'll be like, no, we got to start over. And
- 47:03Speaker 3: I'll be like, why do we got to start over?
- 47:04Speaker 3: And she'd be like, it's not that good, and I'd
- 47:06Speaker 3: be like, so we have to start over. And wee
- 47:08Speaker 3: had like two glasses of wine body and we a
- 47:09Speaker 3: little tsy, but we used to start over. But I
- 47:11Speaker 3: feel like now that we're so deep into the business,
- 47:15Speaker 3: I realize the value of that because I think that's
- 47:17Speaker 3: why we're so good at what we do and we
- 47:18Speaker 3: can like do our show without ever having to edit it. Yeah,
- 47:22Speaker 3: because we just know how to talk and we have
- 47:24Speaker 3: like the chemistry and everything just slow.
- 47:26Speaker 1: But yeah, and it complements the business to have that,
- 47:31Speaker 1: to have that balance, because if both of y'all we'll spenders,
- 47:35Speaker 1: I don't know, a couple of years now, it may be.
- 47:37Speaker 2: A problem, but you don't appreciate it.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Oh but see the thing about me, I'm not a
- 47:42Speaker 3: cheap person, but I'm very good at like managing my money, Okay.
- 47:45Speaker 3: And I'm like, and I think out of me and her,
- 47:47Speaker 3: I'm the one who kind of keep up with the
- 47:49Speaker 3: money more like with how much money we making, where
- 47:52Speaker 3: the chicks at when we're getting this check and we're
- 47:54Speaker 3: getting that.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Check, making sure that the taxis is like put away
- 47:56Speaker 2: and stuff. So I'm really good at money management. But
- 47:58Speaker 2: I just like to like, you know, like I said,
- 48:00Speaker 2: it paid for it convenience.
- 48:01Speaker 5: I like that.
- 48:02Speaker 2: That's what I.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Struggle between frugal and like inconvenienced people I get. I'm like,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you get what you pay for. Every time I go
- 48:12Speaker 1: to cheap route, Jesus is trying to teach me a lesson.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Every time I'll be like, yo, I know I can do,
- 48:18Speaker 1: and I go to cheap route. I'm like, yo, you
- 48:20Speaker 1: just lost a bunch of money. At Least you learn
- 48:24Speaker 1: that when you spend it now and you be like
- 48:25Speaker 1: it was worth it.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Sometimes sometimes you got to take that.
- 48:28Speaker 3: I think it shows in our content as well too,
- 48:30Speaker 3: because we were blessed enough to be able to.
- 48:33Speaker 4: You know, we have a whole staff now you know
- 48:35Speaker 4: that's specifically for us.
- 48:37Speaker 3: You know, we have a bartender, we have videographers we pay,
- 48:40Speaker 3: you know, sound engineers that we pay.
- 48:42Speaker 4: We have a social media manager.
- 48:44Speaker 3: But it shows in our content and what we're pushing
- 48:48Speaker 3: out because it couldn't.
- 48:50Speaker 4: Be just me Andre doing everything. No, not at that point.
- 48:52Speaker 3: So I was like, you know what, I'm going to
- 48:53Speaker 3: give off this part of my money because I need
- 48:55Speaker 3: these people, like I can't.
- 48:57Speaker 4: I don't know how to do this. I don't know
- 48:58Speaker 4: how to work these cameras. You know what I'm saying,
- 49:00Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 49:00Speaker 2: How to do that.
- 49:01Speaker 3: So it was very important for us to make sure,
- 49:03Speaker 3: you know that we had people around us to make
- 49:05Speaker 3: sure we elevate to that next level as well.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Yeah, get that in the budget.
- 49:09Speaker 1: And the cool thing about your story is at some
- 49:11Speaker 1: point you knew the base level. Like I don't think
- 49:13Speaker 1: you should know everything, especially at this stage, but I
- 49:16Speaker 1: think at least knowing the base level of upload a
- 49:19Speaker 1: semi headed, a semi you know whatever is needed, especially
- 49:24Speaker 1: when running a team.
- 49:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I think because we you know, like I said,
- 49:28Speaker 3: we both have our background and mass communications and our
- 49:31Speaker 3: minor and broadcast journalism, so all that editing and stuff.
- 49:34Speaker 3: I knew how to do that. I didn't like doing it,
- 49:36Speaker 3: but I knew what I wanted the show to look like.
- 49:39Speaker 3: So whenever we see things on the show, it's very easy.
- 49:42Speaker 3: Oh add this in here at that because we do
- 49:44Speaker 3: have that background.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I thought it was gonna be too much meat, but
- 49:47Speaker 2: it's actually I'm dying to eat girls, I know. Come on,
- 49:52Speaker 2: can we try this? Rotel dip? Rotel dip? I'm excited.
- 49:58Speaker 1: We got guax sode cream sauce. Do you just put
- 50:00Speaker 1: the chips on our plates?
- 50:02Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 50:02Speaker 3: Yeah, you can do it either way if you're a
- 50:03Speaker 3: person who like likes the dip on top or you like.
- 50:08Speaker 2: So are you like not a messy not your person.
- 50:10Speaker 2: I'm a messy not I'm trying to You're gonna do
- 50:13Speaker 2: your plate still.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Yeah, you're gonna make yours first, though, you gotta try
- 50:18Speaker 3: it first.
- 50:21Speaker 1: It looks so good.
- 50:22Speaker 4: It's a perfect consistency.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Goog Okay, I got this.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and oh, I don't know if we added that
- 50:29Speaker 3: in there. She added a little milk to the cheese
- 50:31Speaker 3: to kind of yeah, just it out because it was
- 50:34Speaker 3: a little thick, and then that I think with the
- 50:36Speaker 3: pepperjact cheese soup, pepperject cheese isn't quick.
- 50:41Speaker 2: I'm like, wait, we got to add all these others.
- 50:44Speaker 2: That's at a word.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I opened all of them girls, he.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Said, and I heard about this. I said, yeah, let's
- 50:53Speaker 2: get it, okay.
- 50:57Speaker 4: Mini plate. You know, we gotta go to the him
- 51:00Speaker 4: in the morning and miss the raige. You're gonna be honest.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Let me tell you, I haven't been to the gym
- 51:04Speaker 1: since I've been here, really praying that it all bounces
- 51:07Speaker 1: back afterwards.
- 51:08Speaker 4: You'll be fine.
- 51:09Speaker 1: All I've been eating is broke dishes. Anyway, It's been
- 51:14Speaker 1: your favorite meal so far. I honestly think shout out
- 51:19Speaker 1: to Tim Shantaran Sou. He had this Thai ramen.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Okay. I tried to make it a couple of times
- 51:25Speaker 2: at home.
- 51:25Speaker 1: There's that I've made at home, like where I've like
- 51:28Speaker 1: literally went home and I was like, I gotta, I gotta. Yeah.
- 51:32Speaker 1: So there's a couple of Ramans that were I actually
- 51:36Speaker 1: think I could rate the Romans at this point.
- 51:38Speaker 2: But at there's a lot of ROMs.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Even though I try to ban it from the show
- 51:43Speaker 1: every once in a while it's like okay, yeah, because
- 51:45Speaker 1: but I feel like that's what everybody does run to,
- 51:48Speaker 1: you know, Like, but I'm like, if you're gonna do ramen,
- 51:50Speaker 1: what's your what's your Twitter? Right? And then the worst
- 51:55Speaker 1: dish by far is always going to be the pickled
- 51:57Speaker 1: egg for me because it was the only dish I
- 51:59Speaker 1: couldn't complete. Oh my pickled eggs, pickled egg and I
- 52:02Speaker 1: was like doing that.
- 52:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:05Speaker 2: We had this young girl.
- 52:06Speaker 1: She was like, she had her dish and she was like, na,
- 52:08Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna switch it out. I got a
- 52:09Speaker 1: jar pickled eggs in the car and I was like,
- 52:11Speaker 1: what's that And I was like, sure, girl, we never
- 52:13Speaker 1: had that. She brought it out and I was like,
- 52:16Speaker 1: I looked at her. I could for sure eat this.
- 52:18Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm for sure could eat it. I took
- 52:20Speaker 1: a bite. I was like, damn, this is this is
- 52:23Speaker 1: this is hard, you know, and then I tried another
- 52:25Speaker 1: bite and by the end of me, I was like,
- 52:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep it real. This is the dish I
- 52:28Speaker 1: can't finish.
- 52:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it was just one egg.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't like stuff like that. Yeah, I'm not
- 52:34Speaker 2: really a fan of anything pickled with pickles.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Yeah, well I don't mind pickled things either, but it
- 52:39Speaker 1: was the texture of the egg was like a rubber. Yeah,
- 52:44Speaker 1: she destroyed you know how you have that one bad
- 52:47Speaker 1: experience like and then it destroys that ingredient for you.
- 52:51Speaker 1: So yeah, now the hard boiled egg to me is
- 52:55Speaker 1: very hard for me. And I used to love Harble eggs,
- 52:58Speaker 1: but I just can't.
- 53:00Speaker 2: She destroyed it for me. Okay, cheers, cheers this this
- 53:03Speaker 2: looks amazing.
- 53:04Speaker 4: Here we go, all right, I'm ready to see her review.
- 53:08Speaker 1: And I used to be nice about it season one,
- 53:12Speaker 1: and now I talk stuff. I feel bad because then
- 53:15Speaker 1: I'll be like, I sound.
- 53:16Speaker 2: Like I like you. I don't know what.
- 53:21Speaker 1: I love it?
- 53:23Speaker 2: Hope I will say, though, I need some su you
- 53:30Speaker 2: like spicy? It's so cheesy mm hmm that either you're
- 53:34Speaker 2: gonna drink a lot of water or you have to
- 53:38Speaker 2: add that extra sauce to it, right, Yeah, you want
- 53:41Speaker 2: to pass me some of that because the cheesy is
- 53:44Speaker 2: so cheesy.
- 53:46Speaker 4: It is I told you it ain't real cheese.
- 53:48Speaker 3: Man.
- 53:48Speaker 2: Let me tell you though, I've had some good nachos
- 53:51Speaker 2: on the show. Thank you.
- 53:53Speaker 1: This by far is up there. Have you heard of
- 53:57Speaker 1: alarm steal from Gangster Chronicles.
- 54:00Speaker 2: That's really good. Uh, nachos, But this this one is
- 54:03Speaker 2: gonna go to the number one. Okay, number one. You
- 54:07Speaker 2: know I don't took your spot, took the spy.
- 54:09Speaker 3: Yeah, this is definitely like, it's cheap, it's easy, it's quick,
- 54:13Speaker 3: it's quick. And like I said, if you make a
- 54:15Speaker 3: like if this was one person having this, this will
- 54:17Speaker 3: definitely last you.
- 54:20Speaker 4: For sure. So all the college kids out there watching
- 54:23Speaker 4: the cream.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Cheese, I'm just scurious, why did you add the pem cheese,
- 54:26Speaker 1: because I don't know if you could really taste it?
- 54:28Speaker 1: Is it?
- 54:29Speaker 3: I think for me when I added it's it makes
- 54:31Speaker 3: it consistency a little different. Yeah, so it's more of
- 54:34Speaker 3: a consistency thing for me. Yeah, for me, it's a
- 54:36Speaker 3: consistency thing. And then honestly, normally, the way I typically
- 54:40Speaker 3: do this dip is I put it in like a
- 54:42Speaker 3: cast iron skillet and then I just put everything in there,
- 54:46Speaker 3: like I cut up all the cheese and stuff, the
- 54:47Speaker 3: different cheeses, I'll cut up the onions, the jalapeno, put
- 54:52Speaker 3: the cans of brotail and stuff in there, and then
- 54:54Speaker 3: I'll just put it in the oven and let it
- 54:56Speaker 3: back and then I mix it all to there after
- 55:00Speaker 3: It's like, Melty, this.
- 55:03Speaker 2: Dip is amazing. It's fantastic. Thank you.
- 55:06Speaker 1: You guys are absolutely amazing. Easy to fall in love,
- 55:09Speaker 1: but I, oh, thank you.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Is there any advice?
- 55:13Speaker 1: Even though I just listening to you guys, I feel
- 55:15Speaker 1: like there's so many golden nuggets, But is there any
- 55:17Speaker 1: piece of advice you would give so another podcaster that's
- 55:21Speaker 1: doing the whole partnership podcasts, I.
- 55:26Speaker 3: Would just say that if it's something that you're really
- 55:29Speaker 3: passionate about, because I think that that's the number one
- 55:31Speaker 3: thing to me, like you have to do what you love.
- 55:34Speaker 3: I think that's why a lot of the time when
- 55:36Speaker 3: people start podcasts or start doing shows with people, they're
- 55:40Speaker 3: doing it because they're trying to get money quickly, or
- 55:42Speaker 3: they're doing it because they see other people's success story,
- 55:44Speaker 3: but it's not something that they really enjoy. I think
- 55:47Speaker 3: one of the reasons, one of the main reasons that
- 55:48Speaker 3: our show has become so successful is because we really
- 55:51Speaker 3: enjoy recording with each other, and we really are friends
- 55:53Speaker 3: in real life, and so I just think it's important
- 55:56Speaker 3: to really enjoy what you do, and then it doesn't
- 55:57Speaker 3: feel like work, and then when the money start come,
- 56:00Speaker 3: then that's a buzz. And you know, I always hate
- 56:03Speaker 3: to say this because I feel like it's so cliche,
- 56:06Speaker 3: but you really have to stay consistent.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Like even with the.
- 56:08Speaker 3: Times that we weren't getting along and we didn't want
- 56:10Speaker 3: to deal with each other, we still showed up every week,
- 56:13Speaker 3: We still recorded. We never missed the week, And I
- 56:15Speaker 3: think that that has added to the success too, Like
- 56:18Speaker 3: you can't just show up when you want to.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:22Speaker 3: And I think for me just to kind of piggyback
- 56:24Speaker 3: off what she said as far as like a money grab,
- 56:26Speaker 3: I think if you're doing it for a quick check
- 56:28Speaker 3: or for a money grab, it's not gonna come for
- 56:31Speaker 3: a very long time.
- 56:32Speaker 1: And I want to knowledge the fact that you guys
- 56:34Speaker 1: are almost at three hundred episodes, because I know we
- 56:36Speaker 1: was walking in the homes like I'm almost at one hundred.
- 56:37Speaker 1: You were like oh girl, yeah, And I was like
- 56:39Speaker 1: then I was like how many of you?
- 56:40Speaker 2: As you was like three? We were like wait wait
- 56:46Speaker 2: wait what you said it like you were like cheering
- 56:49Speaker 2: me on, but I was like wait, wait wait, okay, shit,
- 56:52Speaker 2: but but that's awesome. One hundred. That's a lot, and
- 56:56Speaker 2: I just to finish.
- 56:58Speaker 3: What I was saying is like the money grab is
- 57:01Speaker 3: like okay, So if you get in it and you
- 57:03Speaker 3: do start making money, that still cannot be your motivation.
- 57:06Speaker 3: And I think for us, the money we know it's
- 57:09Speaker 3: gonna come, and we know it's gonna be there.
- 57:11Speaker 4: When people break up.
- 57:12Speaker 3: And having hard times with their co hosts, of the
- 57:16Speaker 3: time it's about money or ego and a little bit
- 57:20Speaker 3: of combination of both. So I feel like, with money
- 57:22Speaker 3: we know is gonna come, I'm not about to argue
- 57:24Speaker 3: with her over no money.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Right it's happening.
- 57:26Speaker 1: I love that I have.
- 57:27Speaker 3: If I do something wrong, I'm gonna apologize because I
- 57:29Speaker 3: don't have an ego. When it comes to this, I
- 57:31Speaker 3: will literally get paid last if I have to, if
- 57:34Speaker 3: I got to make sure everybody else is paid.
- 57:36Speaker 2: I like that, you know what I'm saying.
- 57:37Speaker 3: So I think take ego out of it and stop
- 57:40Speaker 3: worrying about a check all the time, because sometimes you're
- 57:42Speaker 3: gonna have to do things that you don't.
- 57:43Speaker 4: Get paid for it.
- 57:43Speaker 2: In equality, how do I forget that? Focused on the equality?
- 57:46Speaker 3: A lot of the time people don't get to where
- 57:49Speaker 3: they want to go because you're just putting out anything.
- 57:52Speaker 3: I can honestly say, that's what I was telling you earlier.
- 57:54Speaker 3: It used to frustrate me in the beginning stages of
- 57:57Speaker 3: us doing the show, where she would like in the
- 57:58Speaker 3: middle of episocial, like we need to start over because.
- 58:01Speaker 2: This wasn't good.
- 58:02Speaker 3: But I'm glad that we did because we not. We
- 58:04Speaker 3: didn't never put out just anything. We were always making
- 58:07Speaker 3: sure it was good quality.
- 58:08Speaker 1: Cunts like you guys weren't just punching the clock at
- 58:11Speaker 1: your angry You guys weren't doing that right.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Yep.
- 58:14Speaker 1: I love that your commitment to the overall goal really
- 58:18Speaker 1: pushed y'all through, because you're in like a six month
- 58:20Speaker 1: battle and I know I talked to horrible decisions separately.
- 58:23Speaker 2: They've gone through their bouts and I respect their housets.
- 58:25Speaker 1: But it's interesting that whenever I meet women that are
- 58:29Speaker 1: working together, how strong that actual commitment bonds to the
- 58:33Speaker 1: relationship is really what carries them through.
- 58:36Speaker 2: For sure. Yeah, I love that for y'all. Thank you
- 58:38Speaker 2: for giving me the time out of your business.
- 58:43Speaker 1: And beating me and hopefully the whole crew, because I
- 58:45Speaker 1: know they're starving and.
- 58:46Speaker 2: They want to eat this. Everyone was about this. What
- 58:50Speaker 2: was your original this? It wasn't this. It was someone
- 58:53Speaker 2: we say we did say, No, I had that.
- 58:59Speaker 1: I got introduced to that from a little fish from
- 59:02Speaker 1: Bak like where you put chili.
- 59:06Speaker 4: I make a really good chili though, so he probably
- 59:08Speaker 4: didn't have.
- 59:09Speaker 1: You know, he literally had.
- 59:11Speaker 2: He said, or male, check the chili.
- 59:16Speaker 3: But I'd be having to let my chili sit for
- 59:19Speaker 3: a while, so it's gonna be too long.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Well, I'm glad you did the Rotel because now you're number.
- 59:23Speaker 1: One, you.
