- 0:00Welcome to Infrastructure Today. I'm Michael,
- 0:03and with me is Jessica. Today, we're covering
- 0:05a groundbreaking achievement from Dubai. That's
- 0:08right, Michael. Dubai Electricity and Water Authority,
- 0:12known as DIWA, has just set a new world record
- 0:15for electricity reliability. The numbers are
- 0:19impressive. They've achieved just 0 .82 minutes
- 0:22of customer power outages per year. That's only
- 0:2549 seconds. To put this in perspective, European
- 0:29Union utilities average around 15 minutes annually.
- 0:34Diwa has improved their own 2024 record of 0
- 0:37.94 minutes by 13%. This represents a massive
- 0:42transformation. Back in 2012, Diwa recorded 6
- 0:46.88 minutes of outages per year. The key is their
- 0:50smart grid technology, backed by 7 billion dirhams
- 0:54in investment through 2035. Their automatic smart
- 0:57grid restoration system is the first of its kind
- 1:00in the Middle East and North Africa. His Excellency
- 1:04Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayr, MD and CEO of Diwa,
- 1:07explained their approach. He said, We work in
- 1:10line with the vision and directives of His Highness
- 1:13Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President
- 1:16and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai,
- 1:19to provide the best electricity and water infrastructure
- 1:22in the world. We utilize the latest technologies
- 1:25of the fourth industrial revolution, particularly
- 1:28artificial intelligence, which we are fully integrating
- 1:31into Diwa's strategies and operations. The smart
- 1:34grid is a fundamental pillar of Diwa's strategy
- 1:37to deliver services according to the highest
- 1:39standards of availability, reliability, and efficiency.
- 1:43This supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan
- 1:46and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which seek
- 1:50to consolidate Dubai's position among the top
- 1:52three global cities. Altayer also noted that
- 1:56the smart grid provides advanced features that
- 1:58enhance energy transmission efficiency, reduce
- 2:00outages, minimize losses, and improve electrical
- 2:04load management. The automatic smart grid restoration
- 2:07system enables remote, round -the -clock control
- 2:10and monitoring without human intervention through
- 2:13innovative centralized systems that automatically
- 2:15locate, isolate faults, and restore service.
- 2:18This achievement underlines Diwa's global leadership
- 2:21in adopting innovation to deliver services according
- 2:24to the highest reliability standards, significantly
- 2:27outperforming international benchmarks. It's
- 2:30a remarkable example of how artificial intelligence
- 2:33is transforming urban infrastructure and setting
- 2:36new global standards for utility reliability.
